Starting point is 00:00:33 You in? Must be 21 to enter. Placing empty bottles and tissues near her mother's lifeless body. This little baby was desperate, confused, and unaware that her mother Robin would never wake up again. She had been attacked in her own home by an intruder who slipped quietly through an unlocked window. Detectives would later call him the boogeyman. But even their horror paled in her. comparison to the trauma faced by that tiny child he left behind. Hi everyone, welcome back to my channel and if you have never been here before, I am
Starting point is 00:01:10 Kimberlea. It's nice to finally meet you. If you are a parent, and even if you're not, what I told you in that intro just a couple minutes ago probably shook you to your core, a two-year-old toddler wandering around in their mother's blood. I need to back up but also bring you to Sunday, November 20th of 1994. That's toddler's name is Nicole, and her mommy is Robin Lawrence. Lori, Robin's best friend since college, was becoming increasingly concerned
Starting point is 00:01:43 because Robin hadn't returned any of her calls, which was completely unlike her, especially with Robin's husband Ali away on a business trip in the Bahamas, and Robin's birthday was approaching. So at Ollie's request, Lori drove to Robin's home in Springfield, Virginia to make sure that everything was okay. And when she arrived, Lori immediately noticed newspapers piled untouched at the doorstep. This was an unsettling site back then because that was a
Starting point is 00:02:10 sign that someone wasn't collecting them every day as usual. People would rely on newspapers for what we now go to social media for, updates on all things local and beyond. So that was a huge red flag. Robin should have been picking up her paper every morning. So circling to the back of the house, Lori sees a window that is wide open in the back, which felt instinctually wrong. She knew that Robin would never leave her house unsecured like that. So the sense of dread began to deepen even more. There was this panic going through her. And she decided to use that same open window to go inside.
Starting point is 00:02:49 And initially, everything just seemed quiet and undisturbed, like Robin just wasn't home. But just to make sure, Lori called out for Robin repeated. and for her two-year-old daughter, Nicole, hoping to hear familiar sounds and voices. But the only reply was silence until little Nicole emerged from the hallway. The toddler didn't cry out, she didn't speak, but she just stared just with her eyes so wide. And the unimaginable trauma that she had endured alone for days was unknown at this moment. And terrified of what Laurie might discover, she was hesitant, but she slowly walked toward
Starting point is 00:03:28 the hallway, near Robin's primary bedroom. And each step was heavy with anxiety, and for good reason, she saw blood on the walls. And Lori knew something horrific had happened and she was right. As she rounded the corner and made her way into the threshold of Robin's bedroom, she saw her, lying motionless on the floor beside her bed, her phone nearby. Her final attempt to probably reach shouts was violently interrupted. The sight that she witnessed was beyond gruesome. It almost didn't look real. Lori immediately grabbed Nicole and ran outside frantically asking for a neighbor to dial 911.
Starting point is 00:04:10 Fairfax County police arrived within minutes, and they quickly realized the severity of this crime. Investigators found a scene of devastating violence. Robin had been brutally attacked. She suffered multiple stab wounds, but what haunted them most, or the heartbreaking signs Nicole had left behind, bloodied tissues, empty baby bottles, and her favorite children's book placed gently beside her mother's lifeless body. It was a haunting testament to the days that this baby spent by herself, desperately hoping that her mommy would wake up again. And I could barely tell you parts of the story. You're probably
Starting point is 00:04:49 going to see me get emotional, but that's normal. We should care. We should have compassion. And this should hurt. I think for me personally it hurts so bad because my daughter is almost too. She's 21 months old and it just breaks my heart imagining something like this happening. So how did this happen? Who would want to hurt Robin? There's going to be twists and turns in this one, but let's do a 180, turn back around and go to the beginning. Before I even get started, the first thing I think about is what an extraordinary woman Robin was. I mean just wow. She had every quality and talent for immense success
Starting point is 00:05:31 and to think that it was all taken away. She was just an all-around stunning, intelligent, and kind woman. Robin Waire was born on November 23rd of 1956 in Ithaca, New York, to her parents Robert and Jesse War. And right from the start, Robin wasn't just another kid, even though she was one of four children, She was this vibrant main character in her own coming-of-age story. She was the youngest daughter.
Starting point is 00:05:57 There was Deanna, Mary, and then Robin, and she also had a little brother, Robert Jr. But Robin immediately became the lively spark that lit up the war household. And growing up, Robin actually shared a bedroom with her older sister, Mary, and the two of them became inseparable. I just picture two sisters exploring the world together with that closeness and mischief-making. And Mary joked that she and Robin
Starting point is 00:06:21 were always getting into trouble. They would whisper and giggle in the dark and plot their harmless little schemes like partners and crime. But Robin stood out beyond sibling antics. She was the kind of kid who wore her heart openly on her sleeve, which was rare in her family, because typically they kept their emotions neatly tucked away,
Starting point is 00:06:40 which was common and strict households, or just ones where the man and woman of the house were born in a different era, which was the case here with Robin. But Robin's niece Lauren would later reflect on how unique Robin truly was, describing her aunt as the emotional center of the War family universe. While everyone else was bottled up with their feelings, Robin had emotional transparency. She was unafraid to speak openly and authentically about whatever she was feeling or thinking. And from a young age, Robin had a serious talent for creativity.
Starting point is 00:07:14 She loved to draw and to paint. And she possessed this undeniable talent for art. Her brother Robert Jr., who went by Bobby, would say that he was in awe of his sister. He said Robin could look at a blank canvas and literally create anything. But for Robin, art wasn't just about creating something pretty. It was her language, her way of speaking to the world
Starting point is 00:07:40 and expressing herself without saying a word. She would be able to capture that passion, those emotions, and those feelings. Robin pursued her art at Carnegie Mellon University University, where she earned a fine arts degree and quickly captured attention for her talent. Right out of college, she achieved something the most people only dream of. She was personally chosen to design the very first medal for the Martin Luther King, Jr. nonviolent Peace Prize. This was an award that was famously given to civil rights icon Rosa Parks.
Starting point is 00:08:12 And for Robin, this wasn't just a job. It was deeply personal. And I got the chills when I learned how amazing she was. I mean, that right there should speak volumes. Her parents, Robert and Jessie, had grown up in Memphis, Tennessee, under the shadow of segregation during the Jim Crow era. They experienced firsthand what it meant to be denied basic human rights,
Starting point is 00:08:34 to be forced to the back of the bus, or not allowed in public spaces only on certain days. So when Robin received this incredible honor, it wasn't just a milestone. It was a tribute to the struggles her parents endured. Her father would proudly tell people about his daughter Robin, summing her up simply and beautifully by saying, she was a powerful lady.
Starting point is 00:08:56 And I'm sure you already figured that out and how true that really is. Robin's story began with a life filled with creativity, authenticity, and endless possibilities. But no one, of course not Robin herself, could ever have imagined how abruptly and tragically her light would be extinguished. And that is what makes me learning about these cases feel so sad, because each person I talk about, I get to know, but I already know their outcome. But as Robin grew into adulthood, her passion for art opened up so many doors. And one of the best doors it opened was a friendship with her lifelong friend, Lori Gibson. I mentioned her in the beginning. Now you know how she came
Starting point is 00:09:37 into the picture. The two of them met in college at Carnegie Mellon in ballet class, and Lori described it as friendship at first sight, the kind where you immediately know you found your person. Lorry was initially drawn to Robin's beauty. I told you. She was stunning. But Lori quickly realized that Robin was so much more than another pretty face. Robin had an infectious laugh, a down-to-earth personality, and she genuinely made everyone around her feel like a friend. Lorry often said that Robin's smile could literally brighten your entire day. She was that friend who made the toughest moments feel lighter just by being around her. And we all need a friend like Robin. But we don't want to forget what Lori meant to Robin in the same way.
Starting point is 00:10:22 They were inseparable, like sisters from different families, soulmates, if you will. And Robin was just as honored to be Lori's best friend. And we really need friends like Lori, too. She will be the one that takes action when she realizes that Robin may be in trouble. And we're going to get back there. But after graduating college, the best friends moved together to Brookfield, Connecticut, and they settled in, they got jobs. and they were having a great time.
Starting point is 00:10:51 But by their late 20s, Robin and Lori were ready for something bigger, bigger adventures, bigger things than their small Connecticut town could offer. It was the late 1980s, and we're talking the big hair, big dreams, and the big city was calling their name. So they packed up their ambitions
Starting point is 00:11:08 and headed to Washington, D.C., navigating their careers, dating, and independence side by side. And one fact that's not going to be important, and I'll just tell you that, but I figured I would mention it for completeness. There was a man in Robin's life while she was living out in Connecticut, and they did get married. But it quickly ended in divorce.
Starting point is 00:11:29 And just over a year or so, it was one of those experiences where things just did not work out. So that was another reason she wanted to leave. But it didn't take long for her to find true love. While in DC, Robin soon met a man named Ollie Lawrence. Ollie was an executive with US Airways, and he was the kind of guy who immediately impressed everyone who met him. He was soft-spoken and polite and genuine and incredibly respectful. Robin quickly fell head over heels for him,
Starting point is 00:12:02 and when she called home to share the news, her mother, Jessie, naturally passed the update right to her sister, Mary. And Mary, being not just a sister, but a best friend, wanted every juicy detail about this promising new romance, especially after Robin's last relationship didn't end very well. But not long afterward, Robin actually introduced Ali to her best friend Lori, and immediately she received the coveted best friend seal of approval. Lori described Ali as a complete gentleman, someone who made Robin feel happy and secure.
Starting point is 00:12:33 Robin and Ollie were the perfect couple, and their relationship moved fast. When you know, you know. And on New Year's Eve, 1989, Robin and Ollie were married. They were officially starting their new life together. And Robin went from Robin War to Robin War Lawrence, keeping her maiden name as her middle name and then adding her married one. And shortly afterward, they moved into their new suburban dream home in Springfield, Virginia. At 8646 Reseca Lane, it was a picture-perfect neighborhood straight out of what you would see on TV, the manicured lawns, the new beautiful homes, and the Lawrence's lived on a cul-de-sac. But it was a unique one.
Starting point is 00:13:14 At the end of it, there was a horseshoe-shaped road that extended into more of a private little cove of homes. Their home was the first one on the private road on the right. It was four bedrooms, three baths, a fireplace, big windows to look back out to a wooded area. But what of the best parts was the deck out back? There was actually two. One upstairs right off the kitchen,
Starting point is 00:13:37 bringing in a lot of light to the home through the sliding glass doors, and one downstairs off of the living and dining rooms, with easy access right into the backyard. It was perfect for a growing family. And soon, their life got even sweeter in 1992 because they welcomed their daughter Nicole. Robin was so excited to be a mother.
Starting point is 00:13:59 She was navigating motherhood with the same warmth and creativity that she brought to everything else in her life. But it was a fight from the beginning. When little Nicole was born, she immediately had to undergo a long, liver transplant and she was in a very fragile state. I'm talking surgeries, hooked up to machines, a feeding tube, and afterward, she had to be on life-saving medications every day so that her little body wouldn't reject the donor organ. So it wasn't exactly the normal childbirth experience,
Starting point is 00:14:29 and it certainly took a lot more time and effort every single day to make sure that Nicole was taken care of. But Robin could handle anything. Professionally, she was crushing it as well, working at merchant's tire, and she quickly climbed the ladder in the marketing department, becoming director of promotions and merchandising. She was the kind of woman who balanced motherhood and career with ease. It was very impressive. She even spearheaded major promotional events, including the company's 50th anniversary celebration in 1993, and she earned awards and recognition at every turn.
Starting point is 00:15:04 She was employee of the year. She got the president's award, the kind of honors that colleagues respected and admired. One of her coworkers, William Craig, described her as professional, classy, and deeply respected. Robin was the woman everyone admired and wanted on their team. So from the outside, it really seemed like Robin's life was blissful. The kind of security, loyalty, and lifestyle that many people dream about. Ollie was also moving up in the airline industry. He was an executive who would travel regularly for work.
Starting point is 00:15:36 But with their combined income, they were doing really well for themselves. And by the fall of 1994, life for a 37-year-old Robin and 43-year-old Ollie appeared idyllic. They were working on home improvements. They were enjoying their beautiful neighborhood. And they were excitedly preparing for not only Thanksgiving, but Robin's 38th birthday on November 23rd. Robin's sister Mary and their extended family were ready to come visit. But darkness was quietly approaching in the unknown. Within weeks, the joyful anticipation would shatter.
Starting point is 00:16:09 turning their story from one of happiness into a nightmare. So let's go to Friday, November 18th. Robin's husband, Ollie, had to leave for a pre-planned business trip to the Bahamas. Now, he would only be gone for a few days. He was set to be back after the weekend. But it's always a little harder when Robin was by herself with Nicole, especially with the day-to-day needs. Now, she did have babysitters helping out,
Starting point is 00:16:34 but Nicole was still on all those medications. And at age two, of course, she was eating on her own at this point, taking bottles, walking, and thriving. So now I've brought you back to that weekend. When Lori realized she could not get a hold of her best friend Robin. They were supposed to be hanging out, planning Robin's birthday festivities, and she called Robin that Friday the same day that Ollie left town, and she doesn't get an answer. Now, this was the time when we didn't have cell phones. I say that in a lot of these older cases, I mean, it's not that old in 1994, but that wasn't thing. So I'm talking about Lori calling from her house phone to Robin's house phone. And at first,
Starting point is 00:17:15 Lori doesn't panic. Of course not. There's no urgency for her to get back like it is for today. Because now when you're texting someone, our phones are within arm's reach. So things were a little slower back then with good old fashioned landlines. You could even leave a message on someone's answering machine. So when they got home, they would press a button, they would hear your voice and you could call back. Besides, she just figured that Robin was probably extra busy chasing little Nicole around, and I have to mention this. In case there are younger people watching, sometimes I say, if you know, you know, and people are like, I didn't know. Can you explain in the next video? So yes. Back then, we had courted landlines. So you had to pick up a receiver to talk and then
Starting point is 00:18:00 put it back to hang up the call. But if you never hung up and you left it, as I say, off the the hook, people calling you would get a busy signal, but if it was left off long, like 30 minutes or more, you would get this weird tone that the phone had been disconnected. And when you had a toddler back then, or even a pet, they could, of course, knock the receiver off of the base. That was totally normal. They would even grab it and play with it.
Starting point is 00:18:29 So Lori thought it was no big deal, because Nicole probably just was playing with the phone. But as the weekend rolled on, what's still no call back, Lori's worry did start creeping in. Meanwhile, Ollie was also calling his wife over and over again, Friday and then Saturday, and he wasn't getting an answer. It actually sounded to him like the line was disconnected, and that was really concerning. The entire day goes by on Saturday and he expects he's going to get a call or a message on his hotel phone from Robin, but she had not reached back out. So late into Saturday night, Ali had enough. He decides to pick up the phone from the Bahamas and call
Starting point is 00:19:09 back to the Fairfax police back home, informing them his wife, who was home with their two-year-old, was out of touch. He said, my name is Ali Lawrence. I'm away on business, and I have not been able to reach my wife for a couple days now. He let them know he was concerned and that he wanted an officer to go over there and check on her. And what really infuriated me was what this dispatcher told him. I honestly do not think this is normal. Maybe it was back then, but the dispatcher informed him that because he was not in town when he was making this call and he was back in the Bahamas, he just could not have an officer from the local police department go over there and do a wellness check. No. He had to actually get in touch with the Bahamas Police Department,
Starting point is 00:19:53 which makes no sense to me. And then the Bahamas police had to get in touch with the local Fairfax police. And Ollie's like, please do not make me. do all that. And honestly, the dispatcher was making me even more upset because she was like, all you have to do is call them. It's procedure here. And maybe so. But it's also easy to just dispatch an officer to a home of a woman and a baby. But she was asking him to go through this whole process that would take hours to actually go through. He would have to call the Bahamas police to explain what was going on. And then they would have to do some kind of facts or telefacts or tell a message all the way to Virginia and hope that it gets received and that someone would be sent
Starting point is 00:20:37 out there. It's pretty ridiculous if you ask me. So instead, early the next morning on Sunday, November 20th, Ollie called Lori. And he simply asked her, can you drop by and check on Robin? Now, Lori and her friend Carlin had plans that afternoon, so they figured before they headed out, they would quickly stop by Robbins together. They did not think anything was going to be wrong. So just remember that. They just thought it was going to be a normal visit. They were going to knock on the door. Robin would answer.
Starting point is 00:21:08 She would say, oh my gosh, I didn't even know the phone receiver was off the hook. I wasn't getting your calls. I've been so busy with the baby and everything and that she was fine. But that's not what happened. I already told you that when Lori and her friend pulled up, they go to the front door and they notice a pile of newspapers and they already think that that's really strange. It meant to them that Robin had not come out her front door in a couple days.
Starting point is 00:21:35 So they make their way to the back deck where there's a sliding glass door. And I have shown you the layout of this house and what the exterior looks like. I'll put it up on the screen again. Now you have a better understanding of the next red flag. What stood out to Lori was there was a window right next to the sliding glass door. And that screen of the window was ripped. It had actually been taken off the window and the window was wide open. That was not normal.
Starting point is 00:22:02 Lori was actually terrified. It was her friend Carlin that took the initiative and said, we're going inside. And they proceeded to climb through that very same open window into the house. This is where the dining room and the living room area is located, and nothing looked out of the ordinary. Robin keeps her house very tidy. As soon as the women made their way inside,
Starting point is 00:22:24 they start calling out for Nicole and Robin, and they hear nothing except the sound of little footsteps, and they look and see little Nicole running down the hallway. She's not crying. She's just staring. Like a normal little two-year-old wood makes their way towards them, and Carlin picks her up. She looks over at Lori, and she said, go find Robin. Lori already had a really bad feeling. I mean, seeing that baby run out without her mother, she just knew something wasn't right. And as she walked down that hallway, She didn't even have to get inside Robin's bedroom before she saw red on the walls.
Starting point is 00:23:06 It wasn't crayon, it wasn't paint. It was blood. You know. You just know. And Lori knew this wasn't good. She couldn't bear to go inside. She could not see her friend the way that she would imagine her just lying there on the floor. So she ran back to the window, made her way next door where a neighbor was working in his yard, and she was screaming.
Starting point is 00:23:27 Please call the police. First responders were there within minutes. Nicole was looked at. She was observed and transported to the hospital just to make sure that she was okay. She hadn't eaten, drank anything, or had her medications for quite some time. But she had also been sitting in a dirty diaper
Starting point is 00:23:45 for hours and hours on end. Her skin was raw, and Lori said it was really bad. And though Nicole was calm and quiet, Lori was the opposite. She said she was frantic, and she got her. into that ambulance and went with Nicole to the hospital. Now, meanwhile, officers were back at Robbins,
Starting point is 00:24:05 and they were entering her home and cordoning off the exterior with crime scene tape. Robin was found on the floor next to her bed. She was fully clothed in blue leggings and a pink shirt, something that you might wear at the end of the night, in bed, or just lounging around the house. There were knife wounds on her back and on her face. And due to the amount of blood that was in the bedroom,
Starting point is 00:24:28 It was apparent that she had been stabbed a number of times. When she was gently moved so they could look at her face and match it to a driver's license they found in a person nearby, they realized that her insides were coming out of her stomach. It was a very gruesome situation, and this seemed like a crime of rage, something very up close and personal. And at this point, officers went to meet with Lori at the hospital, where they informed her that Robin was deceased.
Starting point is 00:24:58 Now, it's something that Lori already figured was true, but hearing it that way, it really said it that this was real. And she was in total shock. The worst part was that she had to call Robin's parents. And that was truly heartbreaking. Lori said it was the hardest thing that she's ever had to do in her entire life. I can't even imagine that.
Starting point is 00:25:21 When she called, Robin's father, Robert, answered the phone. And Laurie didn't hesitate. She told him the truth right away. away that his daughter was dead. No one knew anything yet, but they knew that much was true. The Robin was no longer alive. Lori said that Robin's mother must have been able to hear her because when she said those words, she heard what she could only describe as a primal scream coming from Jessie in the background, something she never heard before. It was heart-wrenching. Then Robin's father had to call his other children to let them know their sister had been killed.
Starting point is 00:25:57 And though he said it through tears, he let them know bluntly that Robin was dead. And Mary literally said, what? What do you mean she's dead? They couldn't understand what had happened. And her brother Bobby, he said the call was traumatizing. It was the worst news he had ever received. It changed everything. Their family was never the same.
Starting point is 00:26:19 How could it be when one of them was gone? Just like that. The family would later say they were given little to no information about what happened to Robin. And there was a good reason for that. The scene was graphic. And the investigators were still trying to piece together exactly what happened. Now, it was very obvious that Robin had been stabbed multiple times,
Starting point is 00:26:41 but this was a very confusing scene, and I will get to exactly why. But once the first responders arrived, they immediately called for homicide detectives and crime scene investigators. This was not a natural death. So that was the first step. Crime scene investigator, Mark Garman, from Fairfax County PD was responsible for identifying and collecting all items of evidentiary value.
Starting point is 00:27:04 So let me break down what he noticed. The living room and dining room and the rest of the house were ordinary. Walking through them, you would not have known that a brutal murder even happened. If you never entered that primary bedroom, everything was so ordinary and normal. All of the brutality was contained
Starting point is 00:27:23 in that one room of the house, except for one item, which I will tell you, talk about in a moment. There was a small side table to the left of the bed, and it was tipped over. The lamp that had been on it was lying across one of the pillows, a candle had also fallen from the table, and you could tell the entire mattress was skewed. There were parts of the wicker headboard that were stretched out. It appeared that someone had grabbed them forcefully. It was clear Robin fought back, and the struggle ensued in this bedroom. To the right of the headboard, there looked like bloody smears from fingerprints were on the wall, and below those marks
Starting point is 00:27:59 was where Robin was found. Now, she hadn't just been on the bed and fallen off. That's not what happened, because there was a love seat at the end of this bed, and it was covered with blood spatter. Same with the rug beneath it. Robin was out of that bed and fighting for her life. It was apparent why no one could reach Robin because on the floor was her phone, and the phone cord had been sliced right through. There were blood droplets on the base of the phone and on the receiver as well. The patterns on the rug in the love seat
Starting point is 00:28:29 appeared to be from Robin actively being stabbed repeatedly while moving to get away from her killer. This was a very violent attack. And since Robin's body was found only a few inches away from the phone, it looked like she may have been running to the bedside to reach for her phone and call for help when the killer cut the line and then struck her with the final thrust right across her neck.
Starting point is 00:28:51 there were two distinctive gaping wounds under her chin. Stab injury wounds were found on her back, her face, and her stomach, with defensive wounds all over her arms, hands, and even her legs. She was probably trying to kick and swipe the knife out of the killer's hand. Now, what was sad to me when I was looking at this crime scene was seeing blood all over one of Nicole's baby books. I recognized it right away as the Lion King, and this was an item that led the investigator
Starting point is 00:29:21 to believe that Nicole had been alone with her mother's dead body for at least a day or two. She had been walking around that house, going to get baby bottles, and bringing them into the bedroom, and they found at least two of them close to Robin's body, as well as a bunch of bloody tissues which were believed to be gathered by little Nicole and placed on her mother's wounds, probably something she learned from her loved ones when they would tend to her boo-boos. And that, to me, was beyond gut-rudging, to think about that poor baby. And the CSI Tech himself said he had three daughters of his own, and thinking about that baby witnessing the horror that she endured was unbelievable.
Starting point is 00:30:01 I told you that everything was pretty much contained in the bedroom, however. There was an attached bathroom. And investigators noticed something that appeared to be out of place, a small pink washcloth that was placed in an awkward way on the top of the hand towels, just stuffed in there and not neatly placed back the way it was found. And when they looked closer, they realized it had plenty of on it and they knew that robin had not made it this far so could this be the killer's blood could they have cut themselves during the struggle well that was extremely important evidence which was bagged and collected for analysis now as for the investigative portion when it comes to motive and point of entry this was ongoing but they believed the killer came through that same window that lorry and carlin later climbed through the screen had been cut it had been removed and the window was somehow slid open As far as motive was concerned, though, it didn't seem like anything was taken from this home.
Starting point is 00:30:57 Robin's purse was still in the bedroom. It was closed, and when it was finally opened, her car keys were inside, her sunglasses, wallet, money, credit cards. They were all still there. Even her jewelry was left behind. It was right on her dresser in her bedroom. So thinking that this was a robbery was soon ruled out, and nothing else in the house was taken. No TVs, no electronics, nothing of value. It's almost as though someone came in for one reason to kill Robin.
Starting point is 00:31:27 And if you're already thinking about her husband, Ali, you would be thinking like the investigators. But the problem is, he's already left the Bahamas and he's in flight, so he is unreachable. No one could even give him the news that his wife had been murdered. They're not able to interview him to find out the details of his trip, whether he was still in town when this murder happened. They don't even know when the death occurred at this point. So a lot was up in the air, literally, with him in flight. Officers decided to position themselves at the airport in Washington, D.C., and wait for OLLI to land.
Starting point is 00:32:02 First, of course, they would give him the devastating news. They would watch his reaction. And then they would have him come to the police department for questioning. You already know, because you watch true crime, that partners, significant others, husband, wives, people close to a victim, they're going to be screwed nised thoroughly. And meanwhile, doctors were happy to report that Robin's two-year-old daughter, Nicole,
Starting point is 00:32:26 had not been physically injured in any way. She was given her medications, fluids, and food, and over time, she regained her strength because she was weak. She was dehydrated when she was found. Now, when officers intercepted Ollie, he was departing the airplane, and the first thing they did was tell him that Robin was dead. They described him as shocked, visibly devastated, and deeply worried about his daughter Nicole.
Starting point is 00:32:52 His grief seemed genuine, and yet police were trained to look closer, and anyone connected to a victim, especially a spouse. Could he know something? Could he somehow be involved? If he wasn't in town, it didn't mean that there wasn't a plan of some kind for someone else to harm his wife.
Starting point is 00:33:10 Ollie's immediate request was to be with his toddler, and he wasn't the only one. Robin's mother and father and her family, they were so concerned about Nicole. It was the next, worst part of all of this, knowing that she had seen something that may traumatize her in ways that were unknown at that point. The family was coming together to grieve and to now plan a funeral and not a birthday for Robin. But not before an autopsy was conducted, which happened just two
Starting point is 00:33:38 days after Robin was discovered. There was already decomposition present, as well as what is called skin slippage, meaning that she had been dead for more than 48 hours. It was estimated that she'd been killed on November 18th, the day that Ollie was supposed to leave town. They made note of that to determine where Ollie was and to follow his actions that day minute by minute to make sure there were no gaps in his alibi. But let me go into the details of Robin's autopsy report, which I honestly felt like I needed to blur even the documentation. It was that bad. Just the graphic of the body on the documentation, because we're talking about 49 stab wounds all over.
Starting point is 00:34:22 And even though they were numbered on this autopsy diagram, I just want you to know that does not mean that they happened in that order. That is just to document them from head to toe. So I will start from the top, and I will go to the bottom as well. There was a cluster of seven wounds to the back of her neck. Four to the back left shoulder.
Starting point is 00:34:42 One deep wound in her right back shoulder area. Three on her left front clavicle. One very deep wound straight into her upper left chest with a smaller one right beneath it. That's a total of 17 above her waist alone. There was another one in her abdomen just above her belly button, and then one just above the left part of her buttocks. Moving to her left arm, there was a slash across her left wrist as well as across her left knuckles, and a slash wound on her left palm as well. And these were shielding wounds from her defending herself.
Starting point is 00:35:19 putting her arms and hands in front of her face. That's a natural instinct when you are fighting for your life. She also had several smaller wounds to her right hand and her right palm as well. Her back left thigh was also hit, as well as the front of her right knee, and a larger, deeper one was in her left calf. This just goes to show you how much she was moving
Starting point is 00:35:41 and how many different positions she was in when the strikes occurred. I think for me, even looking at this report, The worst part was how her face was injured. From her nose to her ear on the right side, there was a swipe lean across her cheek. She had a deep wound right near her left ear and four smaller marks to her left eyelid, her lower eyelid, and her eyebrow.
Starting point is 00:36:08 But the most severe wounds were the two underneath her neck. It almost appeared as though it was supposed to be one, but the perpetrator stopped halfway, and then plunged a knife back in and went the rest of the way across. I don't know how to put this in a non-discrespectful manner, but there wasn't much holding that area together anymore. And because so many wounds were focused on her face and her neck, investigators truly believed this was someone jealous,
Starting point is 00:36:38 someone motivated by rage and targeted her specifically to get out their anger. The anger that they had towards Robin, defacing her. making her unrecognizable, taking away when made Robin Robin. Her cause of death was bleeding out from multiple stab wounds. They called this a crime of passion. It was frenzied, focused on her, and in an intimate area of her home, her bedroom. Of course they're going to turn their attention to her husband, Olly. They already had a tip on a timeline because Robin's neighbor, Beth Bade, came forward.
Starting point is 00:37:15 She even spoke out to the news, telling reporters that, the investigators in Robin's case knew for a fact. Robin was alive at 6 p.m. because she told them that on Friday evening on November 18th, Beth had a babysitter watching her kids at night, and her babysitter was friends with Robbins' babysitter. So they carpooled together. And Beth's babysitter picked up Robbins' babysitter from Robbins' house at 615 that night. And Robin and Nicole were seen inside the house by Beth's babysitter, and they were fine. So whatever happened that evening, happened after 6.15 p.m. The investigation was still moving along, but everyone had to pause because they needed to lay Robin to rest.
