Well, hello, my friends. How's everybody doing today? Doing well. I'm going to hit you with some more words of wisdom. I'm gonna try to get in your head and give you a few funny one liners, try to paint some pictures in the back of your mind. Maybe try to inject some means into the prefrontal cortex. Get you guys thinking a little bit. I've just found these Proverbs to be so useful. However, I don't know if I've really gone into depth or talk a little bit about what they actually are. So let me try and do that. Now, the word proverb may be defined as a short sentence or phrase that conveys a nugget of common sense, a summary of practical experience or a rule of conduct. Several other words have similar meanings. For example, saying aphorism adage, Maxim, or saw a lot of academics. Try to draw precise boundaries between these various terms. Although in reality, it can be difficult to tell them apart. They would define a Maxim as a statement of general principle, such as you're either a part of the solution or you're part of the problem. While an aphorism has a moral or philosophical tone, such as melodies are cured by nature, not remedies for the more an adage is described as an aphorism that has passed into general use. The truth is that Proverbs can employ all of these forms. They have a delightful fluidity. The best evidence we have for their antiquity is that surviving stone age, a hundred gatherer cultures, such as those of the sand and South Africa or the Australian Aborigines used them in multitudes. So that being said a little bit of history behind them and kind of give you a background in some of the rhetorical language, paradoxical statements, the purported logic and proverb adds to their appeal helps them transmit their cultural insight. So let's get into some more of these. Let's start off with hope and despair, hope Springs, eternal. Thus, every cloud has a silver lining and tomorrow is another day four in the land Speaker 1 (3m 0s): Of hope. There is no winter. Don't worry. The sky falls we'll catch the larks. And if you die today, you'll not send tomorrow. So there's hope while your fishing line is still in the water live in hope. God will find a low branch for the bird that can't fly. So just follow the river and you'll get to the sea hope keeps us alive. Despite the fact that hope is the mother of fools and he, that lives on hope has a slender diet. You know, even crooked logs make straight fires and even foul water will quench a fire. So persevere and never fear for the person who digs lives. Although those who are declared dead live longer, remember a long hope is sweeter than a short surprise. Just as hope keeps the poor alive. While fear kills the rich contentment hope for the best and prepare for the worst for it's better to be one eyed than blind. And don't worry about tomorrow because you don't know what may happen to you today. Time will tell for time is a great healer. So enjoy yourself. It's later than you think. Also. Don't worry about unlaced eggs for worrying. Never did anybody any good instead face your fears for the death of fear is doing what you dread. In fact, fear and hope are the parents of God. So if God doesn't need our prayers, at least don't throw the baby out with the bath water, but be content with what God has given you for. He has enough who is content cross a bridge when it comes and remember who hides his grief finds no remedy as men, fear snakes, snakes, fear men, thus every why has aware for and your feet take you where your heart lies. Despair just as every Rose has a thorn despair and hope are sisters. So he who hopes despairs, no lamp burns until morning. The shadows grow and Moonlight, but never forget that the darkest hour is just before Dawn bad news travels fast for bad news is its own horse. Just as hunger drives the Wolf out of the forest and a bleeding kid excites the Wolf. Be prepared. Misfortunes never come singly after one loss come many and not all the buds on a Bush will blossom. You're on your own for good fortune seldom knocks twice and most prayers go unanswered. So take care. You don't live by hope and die by hunger. As grief is to the soul. What a worm is to would however much despair. It gives courage to coward. Remember despair never pays debts and you can't put out a fire with spit pent up grief will burst the heart. So when new grief awakens the old drown, your grief and pleasure Status and change status, only the wisest and the stupidest of men never change for when you're finished changing. You're finished living old habits, die hard and regret always comes too late, but it's no use crying over spilled milk for you'll find it's just the same dog with a different color as change alone is unchanging. Therefore, although a leopard can't change, its spots and a dog's tail, never straightens. The more things change, the more they stay the same for nothing is carved in stone and never is a long time. Take care mind what you wish for. Although if wishes were horses, beggars would ride. And if you do set a beggar on a horse, he'll ride to the devil, therefore be sensible. The dog only bites when you tread on its tail. So if it ain't broke, don't fix it. And don't change horses in midstream. Bear in mind that the past is the past. And when a man is out of sight, the land remains for beneath allying stone. No water flows, the water flows, but the stones remain change. It's never too late to change and to change is as good as arrest. That's why squeaking wheel gets the grease and a change of pasture makes fat calves. But remember that to change and to change for the better are two different things. Of course, every action has its opposite. So when the wind is great bow before it and let the wind choose the canoes speed for when the music changes. So does the dance, or as the Scots say, change of masters, change of manners. And remember those who don't dream are lost. So throw caution to the wind. Everyone has their own way of eating yogurt live for today. Say easy, come easy, go say lovey. Or today me tomorrow, the, an aim to be first at the feast last at the fight. Therefore let the water you don't need flow for all. Is flux. Nothing stays still. You can't step into the same river twice as nature admits have no permanence. Some say, let it be worse. As long as it is change for if anything can go wrong, it will. However, the rain falls on more than one roof. And what was hard to bear can be sweet to remember, therefore, go with the flow, but be careful without the forest, there will be no water. And without water, there will be no rice. Although if you wait long enough, even eggs grow legs, remember that many, a sudden cha...

Starting point is 00:00:01 Darkness struck, a gut-punched theft, Sun ripped away, her health bereft. I roar at the void. This ain't just fate, a cosmic scam I spit my hate. The games rigged tight, shadows deal, blood on their hands, I'll never kneel. Yet in the rage, a crack ignites, occulted sparks cut through the nights. The scars my key, hermetic and stark. To see, to rise, I hunt in the dark, fumbling, fear. through ruins maze, lights my war cry, born from the blaze.

How's everybody doing today? Doing well. Gonna hit you with some more words of wisdom. Gonna try to get in your head and get in your head and
Starting point is 00:01:32 head and give you a few funny one-liners try to paint some pictures in the back of your mind maybe try to inject some memes into the prefrontal cortex get you guys thinking a little bit i've just found these proverbs to be so useful however i don't know if i've really gone into depth or talked a little bit about what they actually are so let me try try and do that now. The word proverb may be defined as a short sentence or phrase that conveys a nugget of common sense, a summary of practical experience, or a rule of conduct. Several other words have similar meanings, for example, saying, aphorism, adage maxim, or saw. A lot of academics try to draw precise boundaries between these various terms, although in reality it can be difficult to tell
Starting point is 00:02:34 apart. They would define a maxim as a statement of general principle, such as you're either part of the solution or you're part of the problem, while an aphorism has a moral or philosophical tone such as melodies are cured by nature, not remedies. Furthermore, an adage is described as an aphorism that has passed into general use. The truth is that proverbs can employ all of these forms. They have a delightful fluidity. The best evidence we have for their antiquity is that surviving Stone Age hundred gatherer cultures, such as those of the San and South Africa or the Australian Aborigines use them in multitudes.
Starting point is 00:03:21 So that being said, a little bit of history behind them and kind of give you a background in some of the rhetorical language and paradoxical statements. the purported logic and proverb adds to their appeal helps them transmit their cultural insight so let's get into some more of these let's start off with hope and despair should you have enjoyed your fight with us this afternoon and we'll join us again sometime and future hope springs eternal
Starting point is 00:03:54 thus every cloud has a silver lining and tomorrow is another day for in the land of hope there is no winter don't worry if the sky falls we'll catch the larks and if you die today you'll not sin tomorrow so there's hope while your fishing line is still in the water
Starting point is 00:04:14 live in hope God will find a low branch for the bird that can't fly so just follow the river and you'll get to the sea hope keeps us alive despite the fact that hope is the mother of fools, and he that lives on hope has a slender diet.
Starting point is 00:04:35 You know, even crooked logs make straight fires, and even foul water will quench a fire. So persevere and never fear, for the person who digs lives, although those who are declared dead live longer. Remember, a long hope is sweeter than a short surprise. just as hope keeps the poor alive while fear kills the rich contentment hope for the best and prepare for the worst for it's better to be one-eyed than blind and don't worry about tomorrow because you don't know what may happen to you today time will tell for time is a great healer so enjoy yourself it's later than you think also don't worry worry about unlaid eggs. For worrying never did anybody any good. Instead, face your fears. For the death the fear is doing what you dread. In fact, fear and hope are the parents of God. So if God doesn't need our prayers, at least don't throw the baby out with the bathwater. But be content with what
Starting point is 00:05:50 God has given you, for he has enough who is content. Cross a bridge when it comes, and remember, who hides his grief finds no remedy. As men fear snakes, snakes fear men. Thus every why has a wherefore. And your feet take you where your heart lies. Despair. Just as every rose has a thorn. Despair and hope are sisters.
Starting point is 00:06:21 So he who hopes despairs. No lamp burns until morning. Thus shadows grow in moonlight, but never forget that the darkest hour is just before dawn. Bad news travels fast, for bad news is its own horse. Just as hunger drives the wolf out of the forest, and a bleeding kid excites the wolf. Be prepared. Misfortunes never come singly. After one loss come many, and not all the buds on a bush will blossom.
Starting point is 00:06:55 You're on your own for good fortune seldom knocks twice and most prayers go unanswered. So take care you don't live by hope and die by hunger. As grief is to the soul what a worm is to wood. However, much despair gives courage to a coward. Remember, despair never pays debts and you can't put out a fire with spit. pent up grief will burst the heart so when new grief awakens the old drown your grief in pleasure
Starting point is 00:07:36 stasis and change stasis only the wisest and the stupidest of men never change for when you're finished changing you're finished living old habits die hard and regret always comes too late
Starting point is 00:07:56 but it's no use crying over spilled milk for you'll find it's just the same dog with a different collar as change alone is unchanging therefore although a leopard can't change its spots and a dog's tail never straightens the more things change the more they stay the same for nothing is carved in stone and never is a long time take care mind what you wish for although if wishes were horses beggars would ride and if you do set a beggar on a horse he'll ride to the devil therefore be sensible the dog only bites when you tread on its tail so if it ain't broke don't fix it and don't change horses in midstream bear in mind that the past is the past and when a man is out of sight the land remains for beneath a lying stone no water flows The water flows, but the stones remain. Change. It's never too late to change. And a change is as good as a rest. That's why a squeaking wheel gets the grease. And a change of pasture makes fat calves.
Starting point is 00:09:17 But remember that to change and to change for the better are two different things. Of course, every action has its opposite. So when the wind is great, bow before it. and let the wind choose the canoes speed. For when the music changes, so does the dance. Or as the Scots say, change of masters, change of manners. And remember, those who don't dream are lost,
Starting point is 00:09:43 so throw caution to the wind. Everyone has their own way of eating yogurt. Live for today. Say, easy come, easy go. Say la vie, or today, me, tomorrow, thee. and aim to be first at the feast last at the fight. Therefore let the water you don't need flow. For all is flux, nothing stays still.
Starting point is 00:10:09 You can't step into the same river twice, as nature admits of no permanence. Some say, Let it be worse as long as it is change, for if anything can go wrong it will. However, the rain falls on more than one roof, and what was hard to bear can be sweet to remember. Therefore, go with the flow, but be careful.
Starting point is 00:10:33 Without the forest, there will be no water. And without water, there will be no rice. Although if you wait long enough, even eggs grow legs. Remember that many a sudden change takes place on a spring day. So seize the day, and always bear in mind that all life on earth has to a adapt or perish. Power and humility. Ruling.
Starting point is 00:11:10 People follow the ways of their kings. Thus a king and a crying child have their way, unless the mountains are high and the emperor is far away. Take heed, the one who knows not how to disassemble, knows not how to rule, and also know that every monarch is subject to a mightier one. Just as every power is subject to another. power. So rule the mountains to rule the river. Remember, two, that eagles don't catch flies, and lions don't turn around when small dogs bark, but a little force can move large masses. Bear in mind that only billy goats are born to be masters. Power often goes before talent, so a good king is better than an old law. Hard power. Alas, the best apples are eaten
Starting point is 00:12:04 the bears, for peace does not make a good ruler, instead might makes right, for pull someone by their ears and their head will follow, and flies don't land on a boiling pot. Only a hand that can wield a sword may hold a scepter, but much power makes many enemies, and no matter how big the whale, a harpoon can kill him, so he who continually uses an axe must keep it sharp. And if a nail sticks up, it is hammered down, just as a head on a spike no longer conspires. Thus, while he who owns the stick will own the buffalo, in the end, he who lives by the sword dies by the sword. And when the tree falls, the monkeys scatter. Soft power. A good sword can keep others in their scabbards, but it's also true that the pen is mightier than the sword.
Starting point is 00:13:04 Or with sweet words you can lead an elephant. And in any case, the queen bee rarely sings. Of course, if you want obedience, then only command the possible and aim to delegate for absolute power corrupts absolutely. Also try to take out your anger on the saddle, not the donkey, as zeal without prudence is frenzy. And observe too that an honest magistrate has lean. clerks. As a little with honesty is better than a great deal with navery. Humility. He who has not
Starting point is 00:13:44 served cannot command. So don't forget what it is to be a sailor when you're a captain. Cap and hand never did any harm. Inevitably, too humble is half proud and pride comes before a fall. so if you're on an elephant don't imagine there's no dew on the grass as even the tallest tree has an axe at its foot and a small thistle still stings wherever you are there's always room at the top
Starting point is 00:14:15 for no mountain is tall enough to block out the sun and if the mountain won't come to Muhammad Mohammed must go to the mountain for a ruler in his people's servant aim to be a bee among flowers not a fly on a trash heap. Never forget that we only borrow the earth from our children and that great trees afford wonderful shade.
Starting point is 00:14:52 True or false? Truth. Truth is heavy. So few men carry it. Indeed, a truth teller finds all doors closed. For whoever tells the truth will be chased out of nine villages. But still it's better to suffer for truth than prosper. by falsehood. A true word needs no oath. Though many a true word is spoken in jest, just as the worst insults are true. Ask the truth from a child as whatever is in the heart will come to the tongue.
Starting point is 00:15:29 But be ready. Nothing hurts like the truth. Indeed, it's best to speak the truth with one foot on the stirrup. For truth is time's daughter. Luckily, There is truth and wine. For the truth lies at the bottom of a well. All too often, though, truth is the first casualty of war, as the truth is half a quarrel. Remember, every fable is abridged to truth. But truth is stranger than fiction, so don't ask questions of fairy tales. Not everything that is true is to be discussed.
Starting point is 00:16:05 Faults. A fault confessed is half redressed, whereas, a fault once denied is twice committed. For to justify a fault is a second fault. Remember, even a good man has his faults. So deal with the faults of others as gently as with your own. Also be aware that faults are thick when love is thin, and also that a man who falls into a well will seize even the edge of a sword,
Starting point is 00:16:36 because falling is easier than rising. So don't look where you fell, but where you slipped. Lies. Some liars tell the truth. But even so, a half-truth is a whole lie. And a thousand probabilities do not make one truth. Indeed, a little truth makes the whole lie pass. For art conceals art.
Starting point is 00:17:03 But still, you can't ride two horses at once, just as you can't serve God. and mammon Remember until the lion can talk men's tails will laud the hunter And a peddler always praises his wares So even though seeing is believing A man with a big knife is not always a good cook Especially since what comes on the table must be eaten
Starting point is 00:17:30 Your mind can lie to you For even if your enemy is only an insect He will look like an elephant and bear in mind that the eyes do not see what the mind does not want. So if you must lie, then have a good memory. For if you tell a lie in the next town, it will be home before you. Even if a lie has no author, the smallest lies are deadly spears. Falsehood travels and grows.
Starting point is 00:18:00 And despite the fact that a lie has little legs, a lie will run halfway around the world before the truth has gotten its boots on. Never forget, a guilty conscious is a powerful enemy, for the guilty person has the higher voice, so it's often best to keep your head down and just accept that everybody lies apart from my mother and father. Strong and weak. Strong mind. Strength is defeated by strategy, so being wise is better than being strong. For you don't have to cut a tree down to get its fruit.
Starting point is 00:18:41 Understand that the strength of the bee is its patience. So be master of mind rather than mastered by mind. And realize that the forest needs the tiger just as the tiger needs the forest. Know too that silence is a source of great strength and that our strength grows out of our weakness. In fact, even the weakness of the enemy makes our strength because that which does not kill us makes us stronger. Even so, there's no point in an umbrella if your shoes leak.
Starting point is 00:19:17 For you don't stumble over a mountain, but you do over a stone. So call the bear uncle until you are over the bridge. And bear in mind, you can't clap with one hand. Remember, he who acts honestly acts bravely, and a brave man gets his reward. So plan your year. year in the spring your day at dawn, for fuel alone will not light a fire. Strong body. Be strong, for only the strong will survive. But attempt nothing beyond your strength, for it is the overlord that kills. As even the strongest eagles can't fly beyond the stars,
Starting point is 00:20:02 and even horses die from hard work. Note that you can only lean against something strong, which is why a buffalo doesn't feel the weight of his horns. And just as big fish eat little fish, little fish grow big, and the strength of fish is in the water. For a river is made drop by drop, and a steady drop will carve the stone. So persevere, no pain, no gain, and where there's a will, there's a way. For big fleas have little fleas upon their backs to bite them. if you ride a camel, you need not fear dogs. Remember that a cat is a lion in her own lair, and also that an arch never sleeps. Weakness. A chain is only as strong as its weakest link,
Starting point is 00:20:57 and who is brave enough to tell a lion that his breath smells? Alas, to the mediocre, mediocrity appears great. So weak souls only set out to work at the wrong time and the weak go to the wall. Of course every little helps because a little help is better than a lot of pity. But still, flees jump on sickly dogs and the cord breaks at least by the weakest pull. So mind, you hate not the man but the weakness and endure the weakness of others by knowing your own remember a bully is always a coward and a viper without fangs is a piece of rope
Starting point is 00:21:42 so make a weak man your enemy not your friend and keep your broken arm inside your sleeve bear in mind that when the wine is in the wit is out so it's better to limp than be footless. And always better to stay on land than to cry for help from the water.
