Now, the persistent question is today, what will President Joe Biden say tonight? And will he address the rising calls to step down from the Oval Office? We have this video report from Fox News. In your White House correspondent, Peter Ducey. And Peter, what is President Biden going to do when he gets back to the White House? John, they're telling us he's going to head right for the Oval Office to receive the president's classified daily briefing. And you just mentioned those shots.

We do have them for you. It's the first time that President Biden has been seen since last Wednesday, late at night, early Thursday, when he needed help at that same airfield getting into his car. The official reason we've been given is COVID-19. But in the time since, almost his entire party has turned on him. Does Joe feel betrayed by any of that? Or does he understand that it was for the country also? I mean, look, he's going to speak tomorrow. He understands where people are. He understands being having done this 36 years as a senator, eight years as vice president and now almost four years as president.

He gets it. He gets where we are as a country. The vice president is now saying, I am grateful to President Biden and everyone in the Democratic Party who has already put their faith in me. And I look forward to taking our case directly to the American people. And we're now getting a preview of what President Biden is going to say tomorrow at 8 p.m. in the Oval Office. Expect a heavy emphasis on foreign policy in the president's final days in office. I try to bring peace to the Middle East, ending the war in Gaza, putting that region on a better trajectory, continuing to deal as effectively as he has been with the ongoing aggression by Russia

against Ukraine and making sure we continue to everything we can to strengthen Ukraine. But bad news for Secretary Blinken. He is expected to be one of the cabinet officials who a President Harris would replace with the Secretary of State of her choosing if she wins. That is according to The Wall Street Journal today. Well, as the Democrats moved President Joe Biden off the stage to allow the entrance of Kamala Harris onto the stage, Kamala Harris has been basically made the presumptive nominee. Somehow all the delegates have been assigned to her and necessary to secure the nomination. And I couldn't help but notice a cover from the New York Post yesterday. Take a look at this. This actually kind of scared me

when I saw it. I actually saw it on a newsstand. I didn't see it online. You see Kamala Harris there putting on a crown. The Queen's Gambit, Dem Elite Crown Harris says Biden rages against palace coup. And so the question is, where does Joe Biden go from here? Does Joe Biden spend the next six months serving as a lame duck president in anticipation of a Democratic handoff to Kamala Harris? Or is there the possibility that Joe Biden might step away from the White House itself in his message tonight? We'll know more here this evening. Now, it's interesting that all the different Democratic elite, Hollywood, the big donors and everything, have come out and endorsed Kamala Harris. Apparently, and we don't know all the details

of it yet, but apparently she's raised $100 million since Joe Biden stepped away from the race. But it's interesting, there was a press conference that Democratic Senator Chuck Schumer and House Democratic Majority Leader Hakeem Jeffries yesterday, they were having a joint press conference. The purpose was to endorse Kamala Harris. Let's watch this and see how it went. So now that the process has played out from the grassroots bottom up, we are here today to throw our support behind Vice President Kamala Harris. I'm clapping. You don't have to. And become the next president of the United States of America. Applause. Hakeem.

Couldn't even generate some applause for this decision. So it really questions what the work is behind the scenes here. So I saw a clip. This was on Morning Joe. I generally don't watch Morning Joe, but this morning I happened to have it on

and they were interviewing potential voters up in Wisconsin heading toward the general election here. And MSNBC hasn't quite learned yet that you've got to control the people that actually appear on your television because they might say something that you disagree with. Watch this. And she's not the first woman to run for the presidency, Hillary Clinton. I'm assuming no one voted for Hillary Clinton in 2016. So it's not necessarily going to sway you to vote for a woman in office. When do you think America will have a female president. When there's a competent one, I don't get a good feel for her. I think she's an idiot. Right.

Mary, why do you think that she's not that bright? Because she hasn't done anything in the time that she's had. We don't know anything about her as far as her three years so far in the White House. She's not real smart. That's my opinion. It could be wrong. If Vice President Kamala Harris wins the election, do you think that will be an honest result? No, absolutely not. No one respects her. She's an idiot. That's from voters in Wisconsin. So they said it, not me. But the fact of the

matter is, she was making the case here. We don't know that much about Kamala Harris. And I say that generally, yes. As a general population, very few people actually know what Kamala Harris stands for. But she does stand for some things. And that is beginning to filter down into various campaigns across the country. What's happening right now is a Senate race up in Pennsylvania. Dave McCormick is running for the U.S. Senate seat up there,

and he has this political campaign ad that exposes what Kamala Harris really stands for. Kamala Harris is inspiring and very capable. The more people get to know her, they're going to be particularly impressed by her ability. The nonpartisan GovTrack has rated you as the most liberal senator. I am prepared to get rid of the filibuster to pass a Green New Deal. There's no question I'm in favor of banning fracking. Would you ban offshore drilling? Yes.

What is the solution for voters in the fossil fuel industry? Giving the workers an ability to transition. We're not going to treat people who are undocumented across the border as criminals. That's correct. Raise your hand if you think it should be a civil offense rather than a crime across the border without documentation. Abolish ICE. Is that a position you agree with?

We need to probably think about starting from scratch. Outdated. it is wrong headed thinking to think that the only way you're going to get communities to be safe is to put more police officers on the street. Would you support changing the dietary guidelines? Yes. You know, the food pyramid. Yes. To reduce red meat specifically.

Yes. People who are convicted in prison, like the Boston Marathon bomber, on death row, people who are convicted of sexual assault, they should be able to vote? I think we should have that conversation. We have to have a buyback program, and I support a mandatory buyback program. So for people out there who like their insurance, they don't get to keep it. Let's eliminate all of that. Let's move on. I am opposed to any policy that would deny any human being public health, period. The more people get to know her, they're going to be particularly impressed by her ability.

We did it. We did it, Joe. So that's the real Kamala Harris. Ladies and gentlemen, what we're facing with Kamala Harris is a move to the extreme left in the Democratic Party. You're not getting a moderate. You're not getting someone that's middle of the road or anything. You are getting someone that's almost Soviet Union left. And we're going to see this play out. Now, the Democrats have virtually crowned Kamala Harris

as their nominee. The money is flowing in, apparently. But it is going to be a fight all the way to November because Donald Trump is in charge right now. Donald Trump has the lead in most polls. And you're going to see outlying polls out there that says Kamala Harris is in the lead. But the mainstream polls show Donald Trump ahead. And this was brought out last night by Harry Enten on CNN as they examine what the outcome will be. Let's take a look here just first at the favorable views of Donald Trump. We know that Donald Trump has historically been unpopular.

But take a look now. After the Republican National Convention and the ABC News Ipsos poll, he recorded his highest ever favorable rating at 40 percent. That's not a one off. Take a look at the Quinnipiac University poll. Forty six percent. That's the highest ever in that pollster. The fact is Donald Trump is more popular now than he ever has been before. So yes, Democrats can make this switcheroo, but they're still going to have to beat Donald Trump, a Donald Trump who is stronger, Sarah, than he has ever been before.

Did you hear those words? He's stronger now than he's ever been, stronger than 2016, stronger than 2020. So don't assume that Kamala Harris is going to run away with this. I was reminded yesterday by email somebody sent me regarding a video back from, I believe it was from 1989, where Gerald Ford was addressing a group of school children, and one of them asked a question about, will there ever be a woman president? Okay. And so Gerald Ford responded to this question. We've played this on True News before, but I thought it would be a good idea to share it with you again today.

Here's Gerald Ford from 1989. Thank you very, very much. It's a very high honor and a very great privilege for me to come to West Branch and to participate in this conference, which is being held here at the Hoover Facilities. Mr. Ford, what advice would you give a young lady wanting to become president of the United States? Well, I hope we do have a young lady at some point become president of the United States. I can tell you how I think it will happen, because it won't happen in the normal course of events. Either the Republican or Democrat political party will nominate a man for president and a woman for vice president. And the woman and man will win.

So you'll end up with a president, a male, and a vice president, a female. And in that term of office of the president, the president will die. And the woman will become president under the law or constitution. And once that barrier is broken, from then on, men better be careful. Because they'll have a hard, hard time ever even getting a nomination in the future.

But that's the way it's going to happen, and I think it'll probably come sometime in the next four or eight years. You notice that Freemason Gerald Ford didn't actually answer the question, and then he had to tell a bunch of third and fourth graders that the president's going to die before a woman becomes president. So I thought I'd share that with you again today. Just because they have a plan in place, folks, doesn't mean that's not God's plan. So stay tuned. There's more ahead. The other big story that's happening this week is Prime Minister Bibi Netanyahu, hey, Bibi the baby killer, is already here in the U.S. this week. He's going to be addressing a joint session of Congress later today. And the visit by Prime Minister Netanyahu is already causing a great deal of division within Democrats.

Not so much among Republicans. They're pretty much united behind about Benjamin Netanyahu and Israel itself. So you see this headline here, Netanyahu's visit inflames political divisions among Democrats. Another, you've got this picture here. This is from the Jewish Voice for Peace, yesterday afternoon they had about 400 protesters sitting in the Capitol building, and they refused to leave the Capitol building until the government listens to the will of the people. Now, notice that they are allowed to sit and protest in the Capitol, but other groups aren't,

of course. But that being aside there, it says in the banners there, Jews say stop arming Israel. So you have a significant portion of the Democratic Party and a significant portion of the Jewish population that is not in agreement with Bibi the baby killer. Another instance that we saw yesterday, Bibi Netanyahu is actually staying at the Watergate Hotel in Washington, D.C. And last night there were protests outside the Watergate Hotel about his presence there. Let's watch this. So there are folks out there that are not happy about Benjamin Netanyahu being here. Now, before, there was a dinner planned for yesterday evening. And I'll show you this video here that what is on the table there are

maggots and mealworm. Protesters got into the dining venue and poured maggots and mealworms on Benjamin Netanyahu's table there in the dining hall. And it was, first of all, what's significant is somehow these protesters outsmarted police, hotel security, Mossad, and the Secret Service. Benjamin Netanyahu actually has Secret Service protection this week. So somehow protesters were able to get a bucket full of maggots and place it on Benjamin Netanyahu's table. Now, one of the controversies that's erupting around Benjamin Netanyahu speaking before Congress today is that normally the vice president is supposed to preside or co-preside over joint sessions of Congress. Of course, of vice president right now is Kamala Harris. But Kamala Harris will not be presiding along with Speaker Mike Johnson.

And Mike Johnson made a pile of hay about this late yesterday. Watch this. Alone, it has never been more important than it is right now for us to stand with our closest ally in the Middle East and our traditional partner in all these things. And it is outrageous to me and inexcusable that, as the leader mentioned, that Kamala Harris is boycotting this joint session. This is an historic moment. It's an important moment for the country for all the reasons we've said.

The gravity of the situation cannot be overstated. And yet Kamala Harris will abandon her seat. As you all know, as the vice president and as serving as the president of the Senate, she is supposed to be seated next to me at the rostrum. She will not be there because she refuses to attend. She needs to be held accountable for that, and she needs to be asked very searing questions about why. They went down the roster to find out who else would sit in the seat. Senator Patty Murray declined the opportunity as well. She will also boycott the event, skip the speech. They landed on Senator Cardin, who is retiring from the Senate,

so has little political risk. The idea that they're making political calculations when our ally is in such dire straits fighting for its very survival and fighting back against the horrific attack in October is unconscionable to us. America's relationship with Israel has always been bipartisan, and it should stay that way. Now, make no bones about this joint session of Congress that's going to take place later today is essentially a war rally for Israel. But the reason why Kamala Harris is not attending is not a matter of conscience, but of political maneuvering. She is kowtowing to the extreme left within the Democratic Party and enhancing her visibility within that segment of the party. And so you're going to see a lot of these plays and everything.

But the fact of the matter is that she has shifted off of that and has basically what she is doing by this event is to say we're backing away from Israel. And so the Joe Biden policy is going to continue. Now, I'm not a fan of Israel, but understand the political maneuvering that's going on here. Now, more political maneuvering by Benjamin Netanyahu is that he is going to be visiting. He visited with a number of evangelical leaders last night at the Maggot Meal. Not Magga Meal, but Maggot Meal. And so you see this photo here.

Hey, it's the family photo, folks. You see Benjamin Netanyahu and his wife, Sarah, there in the center. Sitting right next to B.B. the Baby Killer is John Hagee himself of Kufi fame. And then it's a rogues gallery of Zionist villains there on the evangelical side that attended that private meeting last night at the Watergate Hotel. And so he is shoring up his evangelical support here in the U.S. Even though the Republicans have abandoned the evangelicals, we know where the evangelicals' hearts really are. Now, another story that's this is out of the Jerusalem Post that Benjamin Netanyahu is going to be meeting with President Donald Trump this Friday down at Mar-a-Lago here in Florida. Prime Minister

Benjamin Netanyahu is set to meet U.S. President Joe Biden at the White House on Thursday and his predecessor Donald Trump at his Palm Beach resort in Florida on Friday. So Biden tomorrow, Donald Trump on Friday. The visits are part of Netanyahu's trip to the United States, which began Monday night, including a joint address to Congress today, which may now extend to over the weekend. President Trump had first invited Mr. Netanyahu to meet with him on Wednesday, then switched it to Thursday. He then wrote on Truth Social that he had moved the meeting to Friday at Netanyahu's request. It was a statement that irked the prime minister's

opponents, who noted that a Friday meeting would necessitate an extended stay in the U.S. through Shabbat during wartime, when he should be pushing to return to Israel as quickly as possible. So we're going to be watching BibiB. the Baby Killer all this week and what he's up to, and we'll have more updates for you there. Now, more updates as far as the attempted murder plot against President Donald Trump. Look at this story today. Secret Service, and this is from the Washington Post, the Secret Service is encouraging Donald Trump to stop outdoor rallies. All right, you see the play that's in place here. Secret Service officials encouraged Donald Trump's campaign to stop scheduling large outdoor rallies and other outdoor events with big crowds after the assassination attempt on the former president in Butler, Pennsylvania. So in the aftermath of the shooting, agents from the Secret Service communicated their concerns about large outdoor rallies going forward to Trump campaign advisors. The people familiar

with the matter spoke on the condition of anonymity to describe private discussions. For upcoming events, Trump's team is scouting indoor venues such as basketball arenas and other large spaces where thousands of people can fit, people familiar with the request said. The campaign is not currently planning any large outdoor events, a person close to Donald Trump said, which probably is a good thing because obviously the Secret Service can't protect somebody at an outdoor rally. And so that is a consideration. But this is once again an attempt to stifle the Trump campaign, to mount up a strong offense against the Democrat tide

that is coming up here over the next few months. Now, an interesting story from Russia Today. I saw this and I just had to share it with you today. The Georgian prime minister is linking the Donald Trump and the FICO assassination attempts. We won't be able to go into all the details of this particular story today, but the prime minister of Georgia, the nation of Georgia, actually said that the same people were behind the attempted assassination of Mr. FICO here just a few months ago and Donald Trump. So there may be more to this assassination attempt than we know. We do know that Thomas Matthew Crooks had three offshore accounts. We don't know where he had offshore accounts.

Was he acting in concert with ne'er-do-wells from around the world? We'll find out. Now, a story that we didn't get to last week, Donald Trump actually had a phone call with Vladimir Zelensky of Ukraine. This is from CNN from last week. It says that Donald Trump had a very good call with Zelensky and discussed the Russia-Ukraine war. There's a lot of details in this, but if you notice over the past few days, there's been a change in the conversation regarding the Ukraine war. In fact, this soundbite from Vladimir Zelensky surprised me.

This came out earlier this week. Watch this. Russ, and it's important that you support it. And I heard your words. I think all of us understand that we have to finish the war as soon as possible, of course, not to lose people's lives. And this story from RT as well. Ukrainian foreign minister says Kiev is ready for talks with Russia. One phone call from Donald Trump is all it took to start shaking the tree and to start talking about peace. And they're actually talking about sitting down at the table and starting to negotiate peace. Folks, Donald Trump is making an impact on world events, and he's not even

president yet. You know, everything that's been shaking up around here with the campaign, a lot of local campaigns around the country, we're talking House and Senate campaigns, they are coming out with some interesting ads in order to help promote the Trump agenda. In the meantime, we're studying the Word of God together. And today we're going to move into chapter 16 in the book of Matthew.

And so be prepared for that. Have your Bibles ready. We're going to open up in a word of prayer and then we're going to jump into the word of God this morning. Amen. Heavenly Father, in Jesus name, thank you for this day and thank you for your glorious presence, Lord. We ask that you would be with us, that your Holy Spirit would guide us into truth, and Lord, that you would reveal your word to us Lord as we study it today in Jesus name amen and amen um so uh I'm going to read our passage of scripture here in just a moment but I want to answer a question someone asked about the leftovers of the feeding of the 4,000 so we talked about the

feeding the 4,000 yesterday and um and we're going to move into chapter 16 today. We won't get through our whole passage in chapter 16, but someone asked the question, why were there leftovers? Why were there leftovers after the feeding of the 5,000 and after the feeding of the 4,000? So this actually was a question that the disciples also had. Wade is the one that asked the question today. And it's really found in Mark 8, verse 17. Jesus and the disciples, they were getting in a boat, and they didn't have enough bread,

and the disciples were saying, well, we don't have enough bread, you know. Jesus said, why are you discussing the fact that you have no bread? Do you not yet perceive or understand? So Jesus was asking that question of his disciples as they were getting their boat, and they were talking about, we don't have bread. Even though they had seen Jesus provide bread for the multitudes. So do you not yet perceive nor understand? That's the question Jesus is asking in Mark 8, 17. So what was it that they didn't understand? They did not understand the meaning of the leftovers, namely

that Jesus will take care of them when they take care of others. So Jesus said, when I broke the five loaves for the 5,000, how many baskets full of broken pieces did you take up? They said to him, 12. And the seven for the 4,000, how many baskets full of broken pieces did you take up? And they said to him, seven. And he said to them, do you not yet understand? Understand what? The leftovers. The leftovers were for the servers.

The fact that the first time there were 12 servers and 12 baskets full simply means that they had 12 baskets. They didn't have more than that. The second time, they had seven baskets, and seven is the number of completeness. Now, I also mentioned yesterday that there are two different kinds of baskets. In the feeding of the 5,000, they were the smaller baskets, the picnic baskets. In the feeding of the 4,000, it was the big, like you probably understand a bushel basket, like a laundry basket, all right? So, but those were the containers they had. Jesus will provide for his servers, for his disciples, when they're serving others. So, what didn't they understand? That Jesus would

take care of them. You can't out give Jesus. When you spend your life for others, your own needs will be met as well. Okay. So I hope that's a good explanation for you, Wade, that Jesus provides for the workers in the field when they're serving others. Amen? So, all right. All right, so we're going to get into chapter 16 today as we move ahead through our study in the book of Matthew. I'm going to read verses 1 through 12. There's no way we're going to get through verses 1 through 12 because this is something that both Rick and I have taught on in depth in the past. And so for those of you that have not been exposed to our previous lessons or anything on this particular story, it's going to be, I think it's going to be a treat for you.

And for those that have heard it, it's going to be a refresher for you. So, Matthew chapter 16, starting in verse 1, we're going to go to verse 12. The Pharisees also, with the Sadducees, came, and tempting, desired him that he would show them a sign from heaven. He answered and said unto them, When it is evening, ye say, say it will be fair weather for the sky is red and in the morning it will be foul weather today though the sky is red and lowering oh you hypocrites you can discern

the face of the sky but you cannot discern the signs of the times a wicked and adulterous generation seeketh after a sign and there shall be no sign given unto it but the sign of the prophet Jonah. And he left them and departed. And when his disciples were come to the other side,

they had forgotten to take bread. Then Jesus said unto them, Take heed and beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and the Sadducees. And they reasoned among themselves, saying, It is because we have taken no bread. Bread's a big deal, isn't it? Which when Jesus perceived, he said unto them, O ye of little faith, why reason ye among yourselves,

because ye brought no bread? Do you not yet understand, and neither remember the five loaves of the five thousand, how many baskets you took up, neither the five loaves of the 5,000, how many baskets you took up? Neither the seven loaves of the 4,000, how many baskets you took up? How is it that you do not understand that I speak it not to you concerning bread, but that you should beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and the Sadducees? Then understood they how that he had bade them not beware of the leaven of bread,

but of the doctrine of the leaven of bread, but of the doctrine of the Pharisees and the Sadducees. Okay. All right. So this is a great passage here. And it's just textually rich here. And we're going to walk through it verse by verse. And today we'll probably be walking through it word by word. So let's look at verse 1 of chapter 16 here once again.

The Pharisees also with the Sadducees came. Now, up to this point, the confrontation that Jesus has had regarding his teaching and doctrine has been primarily the Pharisees. In fact, at the beginning of chapter 15, we read, then came Jesus, again came to Jesus, scribes and Pharisees, which were of Jerusalem. And so, at the beginning of chapter 15, we had a group of Pharisees that traveled all the way from Jerusalem, which was quite the distance. Now, even though the text here in chapter 16 doesn't say that these were Pharisees of Jerusalem, and there are some commentators and some teachers out there that say they were just local Pharisees and local Sadducees, but I think if you are doing just a

direct reading of the text of Matthew here, and remember when Matthew was written, there were no chapter divisions, there were no verse divisions or anything like that. And so if you were doing just a straight reading through of Matthew in what we assume are chapter 15 and 16, I would have to make the case that these were the same Pharisees that came from Jerusalem. But now, they've got a new partner.

Their longtime rivals, the Sadducees. Now, the Pharisees and Sadducees had been on both sides of the same Jewish coin for a long, long time. And, of course, the Pharisees focused on following the law and everything. The Sadducees seemed to be more concerned with power. The Sadducees aligned themselves with Herod. Whereas the Pharisees were more nationalistic in their outlook, a restoration of Israel. Not so far as the zealots who were willing to take up arms to bring about the resurrection of the nation of Israel.

But there was enough animosity between the Pharisees and Sadducees that they rarely got along. In fact, we read in the book of Acts that Paul actually used that division when he was brought before the council in Jerusalem and was aware of it, of the differences. The Pharisees believed in the supernatural. They believed in angels. They believed in the resurrection. The Sadduce in the supernatural. They believed in angels. They believed in the resurrection. The Sadducees didn't believe any of that. They believed in God, but

they didn't believe in that there were supernatural things that occurred. So it's interesting that these two polar opposites, as it refers to an understanding of the Torah by the way the Sadducees only recognized the five books of Moses as Scripture nothing else nothing else was included with them so now the Pharisees and I'm going to say I'm assuming that these are the same fix Pharisees that we see in chapter 15, verse 1. And now they've aligned themselves with the Sadducees. Because Jesus now is a threat to both the Pharisees and the Sadducees. So they came to him.

Tempting desired him. So the purpose of their request and question that they give, that they seek a sign from heaven, was not without malice. They were doing it because it was a trap. They were tempting him. They wanted to prove to themselves and everyone that this is not the Messiah now Jesus had a similar encounter with the Pharisees a couple chapters back and this is back in the Matthew chapter 12, verse 38. And so I'll read that here real quick. So Matthew chapter 12, verse 38.

This is after talking about the sin of blasphemy of the Holy Spirit. Jesus says, Then certain of the scribes and of the Pharisees answered, saying, Master, we would see a sign from these. But he answered and said unto them, Even an adulterous generation seeketh after a sign, but there shall be no sign given to it but the sign of the prophet Jonah. For if Jonah was three days and three nights in the whale's belly,

so shall the Son of Man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth. The men of Nineveh shall rise in judgment with this generation and shall condemn it because they repented at the preaching of jonah and behold a greater than jonah is here and we read later on in our passage here in chapter 16 he makes the same jonah argument so why were the pharisees intent on seeking a sign? Well, I'll tell you why. It has to do with dead rabbis. Dead rabbis can say just about anything you want, get away with it. So, up until this time, there was a teaching in what we would call the Talmud today, but it was still being organized as the oral tradition. Now, there was a teaching from a dead rabbi that had been dead for 100 years before this,

that when the Messiah comes, you would see a sign from heaven. And that particular rabbi believed that it was going to be a glorious rainbow that everybody on earth would see so that's why the pharisees are pressing on jesus for the sign it's not enough that he's healing people it's not enough that he's making the lame walk again, making the blind to see, feeding thousands of people. No, these are miracles of the earth. And their contention was, well, Satan can do these things. The demonic forces could do all these things. But a sign from heaven?

Well, now that's something else. So that's where their argument is. Now, the real argument is that even if they saw a sign, they wouldn't repent. You understand that, right? Even if they had a sign, even if Jesus said, I'm going to move the sun back 10 degrees, they wouldn't repent. They wouldn't do anything. They might marvel. They might say, wow. But they definitely wouldn't repent because their hearts were hard. The whole idea of confronting Jesus on the sign from heaven is, you know, is just to tempt him.

Okay? All right? Jesus answered them, When it is evening, you say it will be fair weather, for the sky is red. And in the morning it will be foul weather today, for the sky is red and towering. O ye hypocrites,

you can discern the face of the sky, but you cannot discern the signs of the times. And so Jesus starts off, he's not making a defense of this, but he's telling them the hypocrisy of their question. The signs are available all around you regarding who he is. This is really what Jesus is saying. The evidence about who I am is clear. That people are coming to God, that people are being fed, people are being healed, the gospel is being preached. These are the signs that I am the Messiah and yet you refuse that and yet you look to the sky you know that old saying red sky in morning sailors

take warning red sky at night sailors delight so Jesus was very saying you know what you'll take a proverb about the sky and believe it, you'll believe a red sky, but you won't believe that me feeding 4,000, or actually much more than that, feeding 4,000 men plus women and children, you won't believe that that is a sign of the Messiah. And one of our members on chat today said, wow, they knew and still did all that crazy stuff. Yes, I believe they knew he was the Messiah. It was no question. They knew he was the Messiah and he was a threat. He was a threat now both to the Pharisees and the Sadducees at this point. So Jesus confronts them and saying, you know what? You'll believe a red sky and that means rain is coming, but you won't believe the things that are going, that are obviously evident that I am the Messiah.

Then he goes on in verse 4 here. A wicked and adulterous generation seeketh after a sign, and there shall be no sign given unto it but the sign of the prophet Jonah. Now, back in Matthew chapter 12, Jesus also made this same, I don't want to call arguments same statement and the same uh you know put it forth that the only sign the only heavenly sign that they would receive would be the sign of the prophet jonah so what was the sign of the prophet Jonah what was it that Jonah was in the belly of the great fish for three days and three nights survived and lived that was that's the sign that Jesus said that's the only sign you're going to get you're

not going to get a sign of the sun moving back 10 degrees like in the days of Joshua. You're not going to get a sign of manna falling from heaven. You're not going to get all these signs. Because your dead rabbi's opinion about the Messiah doesn't count. Those aren't the signs from heaven to be looking for. The only sign from heaven that you're going to be given, besides these obvious signs on earth, the only sign that you're going to be given is the sign of the prophet Jonah.

Now, what's the sign of the prophet Jonah? That Jesus himself would be in the belly of the earth for three days and three nights and be resurrected. Now, he didn't lay all that out at this moment, but he said, that's going to be your sign. Remember here a few years back, about 10, 15 years back, there was a comedian by the name of Bill Engle and you know he's friends with Jeff Foxworthy and Ron White and Larry the Cable Guy and everything and he had a saying comedy skit here's your sign and it was just basically a cardboard sign that say here's your sign so basically

Jesus was saying to the Pharisees and the Sadducees and making it very clear to them, here's your sign. Here is your sign, right here. And so remember, once again, this confrontation by the Pharisees and Sadducees is

taking place on the heels of Jesus feeding the 4,000 men plus women and children. And so all these different miracles had been happening. Remember he had, in that same passage in chapter 15, he'd healed the lame, healed the sick, opened blind eyes. Anyone else, they would have said, wow, this is a sign of the Messiah. But they attributed Jesus' miracles to Satan, knowing they were from God. Understand that part of it.

It wasn't just a misunderstanding on the Pharisees' part. The Pharisees were knowingly attributing the works of God to Satan. And now with the Sadducees brought into the mix, remember the Sadducees didn't believe in miracles in the first place. And so them coming out here and asking for a sign

is extremely disingenuous and Hippocratic. They didn't even believe that the signs were real, and so the Sadducees weren't seeking a sign. They were seeking a way to shut Jesus up. So after Jesus has this brief conversation with the Pharisees and Sadducees and makes it clear that the sign that is left for them, for this generation, this generation, that generation at that moment in time would be the sign of the prophet Jonah. That's the sign.esus himself is saying i will fulfill that sign i am the one who does that now in verse five we pick back up and says when his disciples were come to the other side

and obviously they had uh it says in verse four that he left them, saying, left the Pharisees and Sadducees, and departed. And so obviously at some point here they got on the boat and they moved to another location. When Jesus and when his disciples were come to the other side, they had forgotten to take bread. They had forgotten to take bread. Now, remember, we just came off this big event of Jesus feeding the 4,000. How many baskets of leftovers did they take up? Seven baskets full. And yet, here we are at verse 5, they have no bread.

They'd forgotten to take it. Do you understand now? Jesus provided for his disciples bread for later on. And then, when they had the opportunity opportunity they didn't have the bread what did they do with that bread did they not realize that the lord had provided for them and provided bread for them for their future journey here and yet they took no bread and the bible says at the end of chapter 15, they took up seven big baskets full.

How many times have you been blessed with a miracle from God and then didn't use it? Because obviously they had seven big baskets full. Where'd they do? Leave it somewhere? Did they leave it back at the house? We don't know,

but all we know is they had seven big baskets full of bread, and now they don't have any bread. So Jesus said, and this is in verse 6 here, Take heed and beware of the leaven of the pharisees and sadducees and they reason among themselves saying is because we have taken no bread we left the bread back at home they thought they thought jesus was scolding them for not bringing the baskets of bread but he used this as an example to talk about the leaven of the Pharisees and Sadducees Jesus and this is down in verse 8 here which when Jesus perceived he said unto them oh ye of

little faith why reason ye among yourselves because you have brought no bread do you not understand, neither remember the five loaves of the five thousand, how many baskets ye took up, neither the seven loaves of the four thousand, how many baskets ye took up? And this is the parallel to the Mark chapter 8 recollection.

How is it, this is verse 11, how is it that ye do not understand that I spake it not to you concerning bread i speak it not to you concerning bread but that you should beware of the leaven of the pharisees and of the sadducees so jesus is using this opportunity where they did not bring bread and they thought that they were being uh uh you know scolded because they didn't bring any bread no Jesus was saying listen the bread's not important I'll provide bread for you don't worry about it get in the boat

where I promise you you're not going to I promise you, you're not going to go hungry following me. You're not going to go hungry following me. If I can bring bread to the 5,000, if I can bring bread to the 4,000, I can bring bread to the 12. Have they not understood

that at this point? Amen? But Jesus brought this out not because they didn't bring a basket of, you know, Cuban bread with them or anything like that, but to beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and the Sadducees. My friends, we've touched on the idea of leaven here in the parables, and Jesus really brought this out. And Rick has an extensive teaching on the parables and everything,

and we'll encounter this leaven later on in Matthew. But what is the leaven of the Pharisees and the Sadducees? What was it? What specifically was the leaven that Jesus was talking about? Because the disciples understood it. Verse 12, they understood. What was it? Well, it tells us in verse 12 then understood they how that he bade them

not beware of how bade them not beware the leaven of bread but of the doctrine of the pharisees and of the sadducees what jesus is saying, you need to be very careful of the teaching of the Pharisees and the Sadducees because it sounds good to some ears. I'll give you an example here. The Pharisees, you know,

they had rules on everything. You had to tithe everything. You had to tithe carrots and mint and everything. You had to tithe everything. You had to tithe carrots and mint and everything. You had to tithe everything. And for some people, that gives them a great sense of satisfaction in following that rule. Even though there is no rule like that in the Old Testament. None.

There's none. That is a man-made rule. That was a man-made, dead rabbi interpretation of the law that you had to tithe mint and tithe your carrots and do all that. But for some people, and you might know some people like this, people that get caught up in a religious spirit that love stuff like that, that love the idea of following a rule in order to satisfy God. And they weren't even following God's rule. They were following man's interpretation of God's rule.

And same thing with the Sadducees. The Sadducees were at the other end of the spectrum on this the sadducees what was their doctrine well their doctrine was you know uh let's just follow the the five books of moses and we don't worry about the prophets we don't have to worry about the prophets. We don't have to worry about all these things. Let's just live and let live. Let's just go along with this. And let's just, you know, let's just fly by. But Jesus warned of the 11, both of the Pharisees, which was the religious bondage that people fall into the trap of. And the Sadducees, their specialty was political alliances. And Jesus called this leaven as well.

We have the same issue here in the United States with the leaven of the Sadducees. How easily duped churches and Christians are in the political process and allow themselves to be suckered in to a movement that does not really truly represent their values. And I'll give you an example. Since the 70s, since the days of Jerry Falwell, the Republican Party has been courting evangelicals all these years

until they finally found the one issue that you could do anything in the world that you want to do. Just don't do anything about Israel. And so they became more pro-Israel. So what happened at the convention last week? The Republican National Convention removed pro-life and pro-marriage from the Republican platform. The only thing they've got left is Israel. And by the way, B.B. Netanyahu is going to be speaking to both houses of Congress today, this very day. And the only reason why it's there is because of the false teaching that the church and politics should mix.
