Starting point is 00:00:56 Be ready. Be wise. Go to AmericanReserves.com president-elect donald trump continues to cause seismic disturbances beneath washington dc as he announces more names of the people who will serve in his cabinet. Two names in particular, Matt Gaetz and Tulsi Gabbard, are causing heartburn for a number of D.C. insiders who are not used to powerful government positions being led by people not in the D.C. club. I'm Rick Wiles. This is True News for Thursday, November 14, 2024. Let's begin our analysis and commentary of today's top news by looking at this Wall Street Journal headline, Trump sends shockwaves through Washington with Gates pick.
Starting point is 00:02:01 Doc, it sent a shockwave through me. Yes, when that came out yesterday, it was like, what? So, now, if you're not caught up with this, we're going to fill you in. President-elect Donald Trump waited until after he had left Washington and his meeting with President Biden to stun Washington. Hours after a cordial meeting Wednesday with President Biden to stun Washington. Hours after a cordial meeting Wednesday with President Biden, Trump, on his way back to Florida, announced administration picks that prompted surprise and shock on Capitol Hill. President-elect Trump named Representative Matt Gaetz from Florida here
Starting point is 00:02:38 as his nominee for Attorney General, sending shockwaves through Washington. House and Senate lawmakers were visibly surprised by the nomination, and some senators, whose job it is to hold hearings and confirm nominees, openly questioned whether Gaetz could be confirmed. That's what I'm wondering, said Senator Kevin Cramer, Republican from North Dakota, adding, I need to think about that one. Senator Susan Collins, Republican from Maine, said she was shocked. Do you think he's a serious contender?
Starting point is 00:03:12 That's coming from Senator Lisa Murkowski, Republican of Alaska, said as she walked into the Senate chamber to vote, not as far as I'm concerned. Now, it should be noted that all three of those Republicans really are rhinos. Yes, but there are three votes that he needs. That's true. And right now, what are we at in the Senate? 53? Well, if Pennsylvania stays in the Republican column, there are 54.
Starting point is 00:03:43 Right. Officially, right now, 53. There's three votes that there were 54. Right. Officially, right now, 53. There's three votes that he could lose. Right. If he loses one more, he doesn't win the confirmation. But they'll end up voting for him. I believe they will, too.
Starting point is 00:03:58 At the end of the day, they will vote for Matt Gaetz. But it's absolutely, it has upset Washington to the core, Doc, to think, look, as far as Matt Gaetz is politically, I'm in agreement with most of the things he believes in. He said, I don't like the way he took down Kevin McCarthy. I thought that was, I thought it was wrong. It didn't help the Republican Party to take down the Speaker. But as far as his views, I'm in agreement with his views. Where he's going to come into trouble is that investigation that started, what, three, four, five years ago uh there were allegations that you know he had relationships
Starting point is 00:04:46 with underage girls there was there's never been any proof there's never been any evidence brought forward to substantiate the rumors so i stopped talking about it years ago because there were no room there were no there's no evidence okay and i'm not gonna i'm going to peddle rumors. But the House Ethics Committee is wrapping up its investigation of him. They're getting ready to issue the report.
Starting point is 00:05:16 So what did Matt Gaetz do yesterday? He resigned. Yes. Immediately. I'm glad you brought that out. And technically his resignation stopped the investigation because he's no longer a member of Congress. Yes. So now the question is, will the report be issued? Well, it would only be issued if the Republican majority on the – well, I don't know.
Starting point is 00:05:42 Ethics Committee, I don't know if there is a political majority. Maybe 50-50. I'm not sure. But the committee would have to vote. A majority of the members would have to vote to release the report. My guess is the report will never see the light of day. The investigation is over. Even Speaker Johnson didn't know that Gates was resigning.
Starting point is 00:06:07 Right. He was shocked by it. I saw the video clip of him. I received a resignation letter from Representative Gates. And I think Mr. Gates was on vacation in Italy. Well, no. Ron DeSantis is in Italy. Oh, he's Ron DeSantis.
Starting point is 00:06:21 And he took a big group from Tallahassee to Italy for business reasons and stuff. So Ron DeSantis, though, he is in Italy. But now he has the responsibility of filling that seat. No, he doesn't. He doesn't? No. House seats by the Constitution are filled by special election. So there will be a special election within about 45 days.
Starting point is 00:06:46 45 days? Yes. Well, that's before Christmas time. Yes. So if you're in Matt Gaetz's district, you're going to have a special election around Christmas. And the new member would be seated in the first week of January. And they want that new member in that seat. That's another reason that he resigned so quickly.
Starting point is 00:07:06 But then there'll be another special election for Mr. Waltz who is going to national security. Right. The Senate, Rubio, will be an appointment. Right. Special election in two years. And there's a possibility
Starting point is 00:07:22 that Brian Mast, the man I ran against in the Republican primary, there's been speculation. It was going on back when I was running that he would be secretary of veteran affairs or possibly secretary of the U.S. Army. So that would open up another House seat. No, I'm not running. No, if the seat opens up up i'm not going to run and here's why president trump will endorse somebody and you cannot win a republican primary if donald trump endorses your opponent especially in the state of florida
Starting point is 00:08:02 especially in florida so if Mr. Mass resigns to take a position in the Trump cabinet, the Republican Party here, working with the White House, will have their candidate to fill the position. Donald Trump will endorse that candidate. And I don't care who gets in the race in the Republican primary, they're not going to win. So in Florida here, we know we have at least two, possibly three special elections that will take place before the end of the year. Wow. And then we won in New York. Right.
Starting point is 00:08:37 For Elise Stefanik. And we've only done about a quarter of the cabinet position so far. There may be more that's coming. But Matt Gaetz, this is going to be contentious. And do you know who, right out of the starting eight, do you know who the biggest critics are? The Zionist Jews.
Starting point is 00:08:57 They hate him. Yeah, because he doesn't take any money from AIPAC. I know. He hasn't taken one dollar from AIPAC. And he opposed the House Bill 6090 that established the definition of anti-Semitism. And Matt Gaetz said on the floor of the House, this could lead to the criminalization of quoting scripture. And the ADL is after it. He's had some very harsh words about the ADL, calling it a propaganda outfit. So the pressure will come from the Jewish lobby to sink the nomination of Matt Gaetz.
Starting point is 00:09:35 But I think Donald Trump will tell the Jewish lobby, on this one, you need to sit down and shut up. If you want me to follow through on other things that you want, then you need to sit down and shut up. If you want me to follow through on other things that you want, then you need to be quiet on this one. So they'll blow some steam. Throw some dust up in the air. Yes. And then they'll go quiet. Matt Gaetz will be the attorney general. What does Mr. Trump want? What does he want? He wants an attorney general who will fight for him. Yes. That will do what he tells him to do. How about do what's right?
Starting point is 00:10:08 Yes. He couldn't, in his first term, he couldn't get an attorney general that was on his side. His attorneys general were working against him. Yes. So he's learned. I'm impressed. Donald Trump has learned a lot. Let's go to the next one.
Starting point is 00:10:27 Tulsi Gabbard. Yes, so you see the headline there on the screen? This is from the London Telegraph. Now, of course, this is tinged with their propaganda here. So, it says, Tulsi Gabbard, Trump's new intelligence chief, backed Kremlin conspiracy theories. That Tulsi gabbered. Wow. Doc, when I started 25 years ago, the Telegraph was the conservative newspaper of London.
Starting point is 00:10:55 It's now the leftist newspaper. I don't know who the current owners are, and it's up for sale because it's not making any money. But anyhow, they're accusing Tulsi Gabbard of peddling Russian conspiracy theories. Therefore, she is automatically disqualified from being the chief of intelligence. Because how could you put somebody in the intelligence position, the top chief of all intelligence agencies? 18 intelligence agencies that should be in charge. How can you put somebody there who believes Russian propaganda? That's the message here. So we know which crowd this is coming from.
Starting point is 00:11:43 So on the day that Russia launched its special military operation in Ukraine, kick-starting two years of ongoing misery in the region, politicians in Washington were practically unanimous in their condemnation of Vladimir Putin's aggression. One notable exception was Tulsi Gabbard, a former Democratic congresswoman and military veteran who had run a failed campaign for president in 2020, but has now been picked as Donald Trump's intelligence chief. A quote from this article here says, this war and suffering could have easily been avoided if the Biden administration and NATO
Starting point is 00:12:18 had simply acknowledged Russia's legitimate security concerns regarding Ukraine's becoming a member of NATO, she tweeted. Let me just stop right there. Is there anything wrong in that statement? No, she's speaking truth in that statement. That's our position. That's what we've been saying for years. Yes. So all NATO had to do was sit down and talk to Russia about this situation and say,
Starting point is 00:12:44 we won't move NATO into Ukraine. We won't move Ukraine into NATO. So if you are in agreement with that first sentence on the screen, according to the John Boltons of the world, your mind has been brainwashed by Putin. Somehow Putin got in your brain. Right. So listen to the further propaganda here in this article. That statement was only the latest, Rick, of a series of outlandish stances on foreign policy,
Starting point is 00:13:12 including her skepticism about chemical weapons attacks in Syria. I'm skeptical. She may have been watching True News those years. That followed two controversial meetings with Bashar al-Assad. She had actually gone to Syria. She went to Syria to find out what was going on. Well, since joining the Republican Party earlier this year, automatically they're making that a bad thing. Ms. Gabbard has accused the government of being complicit in a military-industrial complex.
Starting point is 00:13:43 Okay? Dwight Eisenhower said that. You're talking about the same one that Eisenhower warned us about? And has railed against a foreign policy establishment in Washington. Soon after January 20th, if her nomination is confirmed by the Senate, she's set to join that establishment as its leader. So the Director of National Intelligence oversees the U.S.'s 18 intelligence agencies, from the Leviathan FBI and NSA to the more obscure National Reconnaissance
Starting point is 00:14:14 Office. Back in 2015, Ms. Gabbard raised eyebrows at the CIA when she tried to introduce legislation to block the agency's activities in Syria. The plan was blocked by congressional committees. She's also pushed a Kremlin-backed conspiracy theory that Ukraine was developing U.S.-backed biological weapons laboratories. By the way, that's not a conspiracy theory. There were bio labs in Ukraine. We built them. That's not a conspiracy.
Starting point is 00:14:50 They're facts. But they weren't making biological weapons, Doc. No. They were just – They were curing diseases. They just needed a new place to torture monkeys. They run out of facilities in America to torture monkeys. They run out of facilities in America to torture monkeys.
Starting point is 00:15:07 Right. And Ukraine rejects. Yes. I found a CNN interview with Tulsi Gabbard. This is I'm not sure what year, 2015, maybe 16,
Starting point is 00:15:23 17, sometime in that area. And she's being grilled by none other than Jake Tapper at CNN. Again, this interview is at least seven years old, possibly eight or nine. Let's watch. So Congressman Adam Kinzinger, a friend of yours, also a military veteran, a Republican, he said on Twitter when he heard about your visit, quote, fact-finding mission, fact, 50,000-plus dead children in Syria. Tulsi Gabbard, I hope you didn't meet with their butcher, Assad.
Starting point is 00:15:55 Now, Assad has used chemical weapons on his own people. You said it's going to be up to the Syrian people, but there really aren't free and fair elections in Syria. TULSI GABBARD, U.S. Secretary of State for Human Rights, I'll tell you what I heard from the Syrian people that I met with, Jake, walking down the streets in Aleppo, in Damascus, hearing from them. They expressed happiness and joy at seeing an American walking through their streets. But they expressed a question.
Starting point is 00:16:19 They said, why is it that the United States, its allies in other countries, are providing support, are providing arms to terrorist groups like al-Nusra, al-Qaeda, Arar al-Sham, ISIS, who are on the ground there raping, kidnapping, torturing and killing the Syrian people, children, men, women, people of all ages? They asked me, why is the United States and its allies supporting these terrorist groups who are destroying Syria when it was al-Qaeda who attacked the United States on 9-11, not Syria? I didn't have an answer for them. Obviously, the United States government denies providing any sort of help.
Starting point is 00:17:00 Of course. Of course the U.S. government denies providing help to terrorist groups. But I've said for years, there is no ISIS. Right. These are made up names of armies of killers recruited by intelligence agencies. And then they're called freedom fighters. And then they call called freedom fighters. And then they call them freedom fighters. She said the people of Aleppo, Syria, were asking her, why is the United States and American allies supporting terrorist groups
Starting point is 00:17:35 who are destroying our country, raping our women? The reason, the answer to that question is the United States and Israel are destroying the Middle Eastern countries for the sake of greater Israel. I don't think President Trump understood that in his first term. Or he would have never sent troops, American troops to Syria who are still there in American military bases illegally inside Syria. I hope Tulsi Gabbard is able to give him a new perspective on it. Wouldn't it be great to hear that we're withdrawing our troops from Syria? That would be a great thing to hear. Giving the oil back to Syria.
Starting point is 00:18:25 But it's all about greater Israel. It's about tearing down the governments around Israel so that Israel can expand and take more territory. Right. There's nothing complicated about it. It's about land theft. And oil theft. And oil theft.
Starting point is 00:18:42 We still have troops in Syria sucking oil out of the ground. And gold theft. Anything that they can get their hands on. And whenever they go into a country, they seize the central bank. They raid all the gold bars out of the central bank. It's called pillaging. Yeah. To the victor go the spoils.
Starting point is 00:19:02 There you go. News week. John Bolton urges the FBI to investigate Tulsi Gabbard and Matt Gaetz. Yes. John, we trust the FBI. There's a fearless group of people that stand for justice, right? Why would the FBI investigate Tulsi Gabbard and Matt Gates? What crimes did
Starting point is 00:19:30 they commit? Well, I'll tell you what the crime is in John Bolton's mind. They don't agree with him. Right. They already have Tulsi Gabbard on a no-fly list. Do you think she'll have the authority to take her name off that list? I bet she would.
Starting point is 00:19:48 What if she can't? That's just a crazy idea. Isn't that crazy? John Bolton, he appeared on CNN to talk about Matt Gaetz. Let's watch. I thought it was the worst cabinet-level appointment in history until they then heard about the Matt Gaetz appointment. Really, my reaction was that this is like the legend of Caligula, the Roman emperor, who wanted to nominate his horse as a Roman consul. You had to be a Roman senator at the time to be a consul, and it was intended to show how demeaned and degraded the Roman Senate had become. So now we're going to see whether the American Senate can stand up and reject two people who are totally unqualified, unfit
Starting point is 00:20:39 professionally, and really lacking in the moral characteristics, the character that you need to hold these jobs. I think this vote should be 100 to nothing against both of them. Bolton, a real dope, but I thought he'd be great because he was so stupid. He was like a boiler. Every time if somebody shot down a little tiny crappy drone that cost about $15, he'd want to go to war with Russia.
Starting point is 00:21:08 I said, no, I think... He was great for me, though, for a period of time, because he was a nut job, and everybody... I could see his face get red, red, red with that stupid white mustache. And he'd be ready to explode. And this was good for me. I went to Kim Jong-un in North Korea. I took this moron with me
Starting point is 00:21:30 and he never said anything. But when Kim Jong-un saw him, he said, oh, I think the guy wants to go to war. So he was great for me to negotiate with. The same thing with Russia. You know, when Putin saw him, I'd be very nice. I'd say, hi, Vladimir, how are you doing? And then Putin would say, you know, two rows back.
Starting point is 00:21:51 And I'd see that moron and I'd say, holy s**t, this guy wants to go to war with me. Yeah, but that's why Donald Trump took him. Right. All right? To say, hey, you see this rabbit dog i got back here right yeah he wants to get a war you want to negotiate all right so it was a tactic he was using the tactic um but john bolton is somebody who's not going to be in the trump administration at all so ran paul is going to investigate covet cover-up doc, have we gone to the land of Oz?
Starting point is 00:22:29 This is like too good to be true. Okay. Let's see. Something happens when people drink the water of the Potomac up there. That's right. water of the potomac up there and so i'm just saying new york post ran paul to target covet cover-up as the head of the senate homeland security committee the post said senator ran paul will take over the chairmanship of the upper chamber's homeland security committee in january after two years as a panel's top Republican. He told the Post he wants to uncover the truth about the COVID-19 pandemic. He said, I chose to chair this committee over another because I believe that for the health of our republic, Congress must stand up once again for its
Starting point is 00:23:16 constitutional role. It's coming from Senator Paul of Kentucky, said in an interview yesterday, this committee's mission of oversight and investigations is critical to Congress reasserting itself. I think we're on the cusp of really the beginning of uncovering what happened with COVID, he added. Now, Senator Paul is also spearheading an effort to pass what is called the Risky Research Review Act, which would pump the brakes on dangerous scientific work, like gain-of-function research, which many believe created the virus, which would pump the brakes on dangerous scientific work like gain-of-function research, which many believe created the virus, which caused the worst global outbreak in a century. The biggest item of the COVID cover-up is that for years, we've known there is this dangerous
Starting point is 00:23:56 research, said Senator Paul, who added that he wants to ensure Americans are free to discuss such topics without fear of suppression by the government in tandem with social media companies. Well, Senator Paul, I trust you, Senator Paul, to do exactly that. But you're going to get a fight. There's going to be pushback because there's so many in D.C. that are beholden to the pharmaceutical companies. Well, it's not only that, Doc. He will be, if you start researching COVID, you're going to end up at the Pentagon. Right.
Starting point is 00:24:36 Okay, that's where it's going to take you. And some of these things are going to take you back to the previous Trump administration, too. That's right. How deep do you want to dig? That's what I'm saying. There will be a limit of how far he can go. FBI searches the home of the founder of Polymarket, seized his phone. What did he do wrong, Doc?
Starting point is 00:25:10 Well, the FBI carried out a search Wednesday at the New York City home of Shane Copeland, the founder of the betting website Polimarket. Three people with knowledge of the matter said the raid was part of a criminal investigation by the FBI and the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Southern District of New York, the part we love, the investigation appears focused on whether Mr. Copeland ran Polymarket as an unlicensed commodities exchange, allowing users in the U.S. to place bets in violation of a settlement with the U.S. government. Polymarket rose to prominence this fall for offering odds on the presidential election. So the FBI seized Mr. Copeland's electronic devices, including a phone, the person said. A law enforcement official confirmed that FBI agents had conducted court-authorized law enforcement activity at Mr. Copeland's address early Wednesday but declined to elaborate. Look how fast the FBI moved on this, Rick.
Starting point is 00:26:04 The election was just last week. It seems like it was a month ago, but it was just last week. So the FBI moved on this like a tick on a hound dog. So is it Biden administration revenge? Or FBI revenge on its own. So they won't move on Hunter Biden's stuff, but they'll jump on Copeland's. They still haven't investigated Jeffrey Epstein. Yes. Doc, leftist Democrats are going to some extreme actions to express their outrage over the country voting in the Republicans. Here's Breitbart. Leftist women shave their heads in protest of the Trump victory.
Starting point is 00:26:56 Let's see. Shaving off all your head hair. How does that affect me? Didn't affect me at all, Rick. Other than make me laugh. But how does that affect me? Didn't affect me at all, Rick. Other than make me laugh, but how does that affect me? This is for real. So this is one example here. This is their rallying cry. We're not going to bow down. We're going to fight the system and everything.
Starting point is 00:27:19 And the way I'm going to fight the system, not by voting, not by running for office, but no, I'm going to shave my freaky head, Rick. Okay, so I'm trying to figure out how this affects Washington. How does this make the American people regret electing Trump and the Republicans? Or is it just a sign of their mental illness? Well, speaking of mental illness, I have another one here that really stretches the realms of credulity here. And so this one, we had to bleep every other word because this just shows how insane these
Starting point is 00:27:59 people are right now. Watch this. Just woke up this morning feeling spicy. You guys feel spicy cuz I do all right I don't know how to use this thing let's see what happens is this cutting off hair I think that this is too it's getting hair here we go I given up America yeah also given up I've also given up on coloring this hair. Because, right? F*** coloring my hair. F*** having my hair be long and luxurious.
Starting point is 00:28:30 F*** all that s***. F*** being skinny. F*** being hot. F*** being all the things that the patriarchy wants us to be. Because clearly, they don't know s*** about us. And I'm talking to you, too. Those of you ladies who have the internalized misogyny required to do what you did. Minorities who are so scared of a woman in power that you'd rather cozy up to the white man just in case some crumbs fall off his plate so that you may eat from them.
Starting point is 00:28:55 That's absolutely nuts. And I'm not a professional, but I know nuttiness. Nuttier than a payday bar. And I'm not a professional, but I know nuttiness. Nuttier than a payday bar. These are the people who were in power. They represented people who were in power. Yes. Fight the patriarchy.
Starting point is 00:29:18 Cut off your hair. You minorities. You traitors. Okay. So let's go from crazy leftist Democrats. And let's close out this segment on the election by taking a look at something that's a little bit more humorous. And I'm talking about West Virginia Governor Jim Justice, who is now going to be, he's now senator-elect, very popular governor in West Virginia, Republican. And he ran for the U.S. Senate and captured Joe Manchin's seat,
Starting point is 00:30:01 who gave it up because he couldn't work with his own party anymore. So he just quit. And he because he couldn't work with his own party anymore. So he just quit. And he knew he couldn't win anyhow as a Democrat. And so this is Jim Justice. He's appearing on – well, what you have to know about Governor Justice is his dog. Baby dog. Baby dog. Baby dog. Baby dog. So if you haven't followed Governor Justice in the West Virginia legislature,
Starting point is 00:30:29 he often took baby dog inside the legislature, like a state of the state address. Right. He would hold baby dog, okay? There was one time when Bette Midler said something very uncomplimentary about West Virginia. And he had baby dog in his arms and he turned baby dog around to see baby dogs. Hein in and said, Bette, this is for you.
Starting point is 00:31:00 OK, so he's a funny guy. But anyhow, he was on Fox News, and this is towards the end of the interview. They ask him about a rumor that Baby Dog would be banned from the floor of the Senate. This is what he said. The reason we booked you was to talk to Baby Dog, because there has been an electrifying story that Baby Dog was thrown off the floor of the Senate where you're going to be working soon. Baby Dog, my question to you first, how does it feel to be thrown off the Senate floor? She says she's tough and no way. Okay. So Senator-elect, this all started as a joke, right?
Starting point is 00:31:46 A hundred percent. You know, there was a senator there asking about his children being able to come, I think, you know, to the swearing-in ceremony and all that. And then Bernie Marino, you know, Bernie's a good guy and everything. And he said, you know, what about baby dog or something like that? But I have known way before that dogs aren't allowed in the Senate chambers there and on the floor. And so I've talked about that in my campaign over and over. Now, baby dog will be lots of places with me. She'll be in my office and we welcome anybody to come by and see her and everything.
Starting point is 00:32:24 She is a little bit of an icon and republicans absolutely if if we'll just take some things and have some fun with them you know we humanize ourselves to the people and that's so important it's really really important and so so whether it be a garbage truck or mcdonald's or whatever it may be, or even a little baby dog. Humanizing really helps us all. Well, and you know, she is iconic. You know, if you go someplace and she's not there, people are like, oh, we only have him? I know. I get it all the time. And taking second place, that's okay with me. You know, But I would say this to you, Steve. The good Lord gave us the ability to smile and to laugh.
Starting point is 00:33:11 And this journey's tough enough. And absolutely, Baby Dog makes people smile and she loves everybody. How can it get any simpler than just that? And the last thing I'd say is Baby Dog fully endorses all your cookbooks. Oh, thank you! And he also knows that Baby Dog got him a lot of votes. That's true, too. That's right.
Starting point is 00:33:34 So, who won the election? Baby Dog. Baby Dog won the election. Well, at least Baby Dog, I think, is better dressed than Senator John Fetterman. And Fetterman. Yeah. And Fetterman's allowed on the floor of the Senate. Yes.
Starting point is 00:33:49 I still don't get that. The decorum of the Senate, and they allow John Fetterman to wear hoodies, sneakers, shorts. Doc, he never— I don't get it. I can't imagine why they – I mean, the Senate. I mean, really, the tradition of the Senate goes all the way back to Rome. You know what the reason was why they bended the rules? Because he had a nervous breakdown.
Starting point is 00:34:19 So you can wear sweatsuits to work? That was the argument. Remember, he went into the nervous breakdown thing and couldn't function? Honestly, back at the beginning of his term. And so they were like, well, you know, in deference to mental illness, we're going to have to allow him to dress
Starting point is 00:34:40 like somebody off the street because he might have another breakdown. And we don't want that, do we? We don't want that to happen. Starting point is 00:36:30 And all of you probably know by now what happened with InfoWars. I knew this day was coming. None of us knew which day it was going to happen. But today was the day. But today is the day, and InfoWars no longer belongs to Alex Jones. InfoWars is no longer even operational. In fact, you know, I saw that headline,
Starting point is 00:36:57 The Onion is buying Alex Jones' InfoWars site. Doc, my... I was the same way. I'm like, Is this satire? Is this a joke? The Onion The Onion is a satire site And I think
Starting point is 00:37:11 Okay I'm being I'm being Fooled here But this is a Wall Street Journal Report And the Onion Satire
Starting point is 00:37:18 Website Purchased InfoWars today If you go to InfoWars This is what you see There's the InfoWars today. If you go to InfoWars, this is what you see. There's the InfoWars website. Site unavailable till further notice. It's gone.
Starting point is 00:37:33 It's down. And, Doc, when I came into the office today, you were watching Alex Jones live, and he was saying that the buyers were in the building. Yes. live and he was saying that the buyers were in the building. He was live. He was streaming live and the new owners were walking around in his facility. Right. Even as before I had to start shift gears and help prepare for the Godcast today, he had one of his producers go on live and said,
Starting point is 00:38:06 listen, we've got these guys. They're talking to the IT department back here, and they're getting ready to pull the plug. So that's where it was when I had to drop out. But that's the reality of the situation here. I don't like what happened to Alex Jones, but at the same time, it's, wow,
Starting point is 00:38:29 it's a crazy situation here. Alex started just shortly before I did. And so we have both been in this battle for truth for 20, mine is 26 years the program's been on the internet for 25 plus years.
Starting point is 00:38:50 But I started a year earlier without going with a radio program. We were streaming, we were podcasting, and we were broadcasting on radio in 1999. Alex started just a little bit before us. I never imagined this, Doc. Ever. I never imagined there'd be a day that InfoWars would cease to exist.
Starting point is 00:39:15 True News would still be here. I never saw something like that happening. It's unfortunate. He's lost his entire organization. He's lost his entire organization. He's lost everything he's worked to build, and it's been taken away,
Starting point is 00:39:30 and all of his employees are out of business, out of work now. And the sad thing is, his enemies will seize anything new. I know some people are saying, well, he's already started anew. They're going to take it. Everything he...
Starting point is 00:39:49 If he puts it in somebody else's name, the fact that he has his name on it, they're going to move on it. Income. He can't get income. He can't receive income. Any income he receives will be seized by the court. Look what they're doing to Rudy Giuliani.
Starting point is 00:40:08 They took his watches off of his wrists. He said last week they took his bank account and he had no way to buy food. Rudy Giuliani posted, I have no way to buy food. I mean, Doc, this is – America's mayor. Yes. So he's lost his law license. You know, they've ruined him, okay?
Starting point is 00:40:37 You know, there's been speculation of Alex Jones as Donald Trump's press secretary. Again, when I first heard it, I thought it was – I thought, okay, this is the onion also. But the more I started to think about it, I thought this is a great idea for two reasons. Number one, the news media will think that they died and went to hell. Because let's face it, it's the legacy media that took Alex Jones down. Yes. They will think – if Alex Jones becomes Trump's press secretary, they will think that they died and went to hell because they'll have to go in the White House every day and deal with Alex Jones. The second reason it would be a good idea would be it would take the attack dogs away from Donald Trump because the media would then develop Alex Jones derangement syndrome.
Starting point is 00:41:27 AJDS. Yes, and they would be attacking him and not attacking Donald Trump. So it's quite a brilliant idea if Donald Trump is bold enough to do something like that. But today is the end of an era, the Alex Jones era. But this is just the beginning of massive changes that we're seeing in the media landscape, isn't it, Rick? There is seismic changes taking place in media right now. If you're in the media and you survive, then you're fortunate. You're blessed, okay?
Starting point is 00:42:03 Because I'm going to go through some headlines. I'm going to show you what is taking place right now in the media world. The media cannot crow and say, hey, we won. We took down Alex Jones. We're king of the hill because, Doc, their hill is crumbling. Yes, legacy media for all intent. They are crumbling. It's crumbling and dead.
Starting point is 00:42:25 Their takedown of Alex Jones was like their last death gurgle. Yes. It's like the last thing that, it was like a dying hand pulling somebody down. Right. So take a look at this Barrett Media. CNN preparing for mass layoffs, including potentially top-earning talents. Right. We're talking the biggest names, Wolf Blitzer, Jake Tapper.
Starting point is 00:42:52 Chris Wallace already bailed out. Yeah, he's going into podcasting. Chris Wallace just found podcasting, huh? Who's going to listen? Seriously, do you think Joe Rogan— I wasn't listening to Chris Wallace when he was on CNN. Do you think Joe Rogan is shaking right now because Chris Wallace has discovered podcasting? Okay.
Starting point is 00:43:13 No, he didn't have any other choice. CNN said, we can't continue to pay you your outrageous salaries. These guys—Chris Wallace was paid $8.5 million per year. $8.5 million for Chris Wallace. And he popped up on TV maybe a couple times a week. So hundreds of employees are going to be laid off in the very near future at CNN. And some of the biggest names may also be in those layoffs. Now, and this layoff is only the second of layoffs because if you remember last year in 2023, Rick, CNN cut 250 jobs.
Starting point is 00:43:55 Yes. And they basically shut down the Atlanta office. And so – Well, the next one, this is Fox Sports Radio anchors announced departure amid iHeart layoffs. So iHeart is chopping their payroll. All these media organizations are in trouble because of payroll, paying people too much, having too many employees, and viewership down and advertising down. And when that happens in media, somebody's got to go. Doc knows we both are old media guys.
Starting point is 00:44:35 We've been in media all our lives. And my first job was in radio in 1976. I think you were 56? Did you start in 56? I started in 76. Wasn't I in that one? Technically, I started in 79. No, I started in 76 at a radio station. So I've seen layoffs. I've seen mass firings.
Starting point is 00:44:59 I've seen owners come in and fire everybody. Right. I've seen owners come in and fire everybody. And because back then when a radio station was losing money, they got rid of everybody and changed the format. That's right. Sometimes the new employees would be out in the parking lot. Yes. Honestly, folks, that's the way it operated in radio back in those days. The new employees would be out in the parking lot while the owners were inside firing everybody right the old employees would come out the new employees would go in and the station would flip its format
Starting point is 00:45:31 within minutes yes that's the kind of stuff that happens in media i'm gonna get through but what you wouldn't see is you wouldn't see an owner continue to lose money over a long period of time. No, they just chop. They just chop. And, you know, we may think that that sounds draconian, but if I owned a radio station and was losing money, why would I choose to continue to lose money? And yet these legacy medias do. I don't get it where they get the money to keep losing money. Where do you get money to keep losing money? Where does that come from?
Starting point is 00:46:03 All because of silly, woke policies. New York Post, radio giant iHeartMedia slashes hundreds of jobs amid industry struggles. Press Gazette, news media job cuts 2024, BBC and ABC News among the latest hit. Fast Company, Disney and Paramount layoff hundreds. Deadline, the CW network undergoes layoffs with scripted and PR departments hit hard. Another deadline, Dr. Phil McGraw's Merritt Street Media undergoes layoffs. The Shore News in New Jersey. Big story here. Dr. Phil McGraw's Merritt Street Media undergoes layoffs. The Shore News in New Jersey. Big story here.
Starting point is 00:46:57 Comcast have put MSNBC and Oprah-founded Oxygen Networks up for sale in cable TV sell-off. Yes. I shared this with Rick the other day. Comcast, the media powerhouse behind NBCUniversal, is stirring up major buzz in the entertainment industry. The company recently announced that it's considering a significant move separating from several of its top cable networks, including MSNBC, CNBC, Bravo, Oxygen, among others. This revelation came from Comcast President Mike Kavanaugh during the company's third quarter earnings call. Comcast will retain, the idea here,
Starting point is 00:47:32 will retain NBC and its streaming service Peacock, but basically they're going to shed everything else, all the other networks that they have. This is a major thing. And notice all these stories, the majority of these stories, this week. Yes. Right after the election. Right after the election.
Starting point is 00:47:57 All right, I'm going to make a far-out prediction for MSNBC. Because Comcast is selling MSNBC, CNBC, Bravo, Oxygen Network. Here's my prediction. Elon Musk and Donald Trump's Truth Media, and Elon Musk with his media company owns X, jointly buys MSNBC, changes the name, because MS is Microsoft. And they put Alex Jones on in primetime. All right. I could see Elon Musk buying it. That's for sure. Truth Social also.
Starting point is 00:48:37 The Trump Truth Media Corporation. This gives Donald Trump and Elon Musk a national network. They could buy it. And Comcast is wanting to dump it. They're looking for money. Kagan, the name Kagan, this is Jeff Kagan. He's been around. The Kagan family name is they are experts in data in the cable television industry.
Starting point is 00:49:08 Roughly half of cable TV users have already cut the cord. Talking about from the peak years. Right. The peak years of cable. They're down 50%, Doc. And still falling. Yes. And still falling. Next TV, U.S. pay TV loses 1.6 million subscribers in the second quarter. The 10th consecutive quarter of double-digit percentage losses for linear TV.
Starting point is 00:49:38 And if we add to that story from Shore News Network, the total up the first half of the year, four million cable subscribers have gone south. For the first half of 24. That's not counting everything we've seen in the third quarter. And NBCUniversal just had their third quarter earnings call, so we can only imagine. The cable industry is hemorrhaging. By the way, DirecTV and Dish called off their
Starting point is 00:50:07 merger. Right. So both of them will eventually expire. What's going on in the newspaper world? Here's the Star-Ledger in New Jersey. Star-Ledger ending its print edition, closing down its print production facilities in 2025. This is happening all over America, small, medium-sized cities losing their newspapers. Starting point is 00:52:29 Word of God. This is a Bible teaching ministry of Faith and Values Fellowship in Vero Beach, Florida. And on Fridays, we join together in Holy Communion, so we invite you to be with us tomorrow to join in the Lord's Supper. Just have your choice of red wine or grape juice available along with bread. Starting point is 00:53:15 Today we're looking at verses 47 to 54. Our goal, and we will reach it, and that is to complete the book of Matthew by December. And then January, we will start a new book. So let's pray, and then Doc can read the word, verses 47 to 54. Gracious Heavenly Father, our Father in heaven, we come to you with hearts of thanksgiving and praise. And Father, we also have hearts and minds that are hungry and desire to be fed today. So we invite your Holy Spirit to take charge of this morning manna Bible study and illuminate us, enlighten us, educate us about your son Jesus and his kingdom. In the name of Jesus Christ, we pray. Amen. Amen. Praise the Lord. And we are in Matthew chapter 26,
Starting point is 00:54:16 and I'll begin reading at verse 47 through 54. What a precious opportunity to read from God's word. Never let that, take that for granted, how precious his word is for our life. Matthew chapter 26, verse 47. I'm reading from the King James. And while he yet spake, Lo Judas, one of the twelve, came, and with him a great multitude with swords and staves from the chief priests and elders of the people now he that betrayeth him gave them a sign saying whomsoever i shall kiss that same as he holding fast and forthwith he came to j Jesus and said, Hail, Master, and kissed him. Jesus said unto him, Friend, wherefore art thou come?
Starting point is 00:55:11 Then came they and laid hands on Jesus and took him. And behold, one of them, which were with Jesus, stretched out his hand and drew his sword and struck a servant of the high priest and smote off his ear. Then Jesus said unto him, Put up again thy sword into its place, for all they that take the sword shall perish with the sword. Thinkest thou that I cannot now pray to my Father, and he shall presently give me more than twelve legions of angels? But how then shall the scriptures be fulfilled that thus
Starting point is 00:55:47 it must be? God bless the reading of his word today. Amen. Verse 47. And while he yet spake, lo, Judas, one of the twelve, came, and with a great multitude with swords and staves from the chief
Starting point is 00:56:06 priests and elders of the people. I start with the phrase and while he yet spake. What was he speaking? We go back verses 45 and 46, 47. Jesus had returned to the three disciples who were asleep while he was praying. And he said to them, sleep on now and take your rest. Behold, the hour is at hand and the son of man is betrayed into the hands of sinners. Rise. Let us be going. Behold, he is at hand that does betray me. So while Jesus was speaking those words,
Starting point is 00:56:56 Judas appeared in the garden. And Judas is identified multiple times as one of the twelve. We see, I think, one of the twelve is used eight times in the New Testament to identify Judas. There's a reason for it. That he is being identified. That he was in the inner circle. The Holy Spirit is making a concerted effort to remind everybody judas was one of them yes he was in the inner circle every time you see judas's name
Starting point is 00:58:01 he's identified as one of the twelve you don't see it with the other members the the other the other disciples the Apostles it's Judas who is identified as one of the twelve and it's done to to highlight the profound betrayal within Jesus's inner circle. Yes. It, it accentuates the tragedy and the irony of one of Jesus's own followers orchestrating his arrest. And it also tells us that his betrayal was deliberate. It was an active role.
Starting point is 00:58:55 And so the Bible uses the phrase one of the twelve. Accompanying Judas was a large number of men armed with swords and wooden clubs. King James uses the word staves. Staves were wooden clubs. They worked for the chief priests and the elders in Jerusalem some some Bible scholars believe that the group included Roman soldiers provided by Pilate but Matthew doesn't say so he says they came from the chief priests and the elders of the people but they came with swords and clubs. They came prepared for a violent confrontation with the disciples.
Starting point is 00:59:52 Remember, they're thinking, hey, Jesus is surrounded by 11 other men. They're assuming all 11 are armed. They're assuming Jesus is armed with a sword. Yeah, that's right. They're assuming, hey, they've made a stockpile of clubs. They know that this is coming. And they were armed. That's just it. The disciples were armed. They were. As we find out in this passage. But these men came
Starting point is 01:00:23 with swords and clubs to carry out a violent, forceful arrest of Jesus. Think of a SWAT team showing up today. Yeah. Jesus got SWATed. Yeah. That was a Jerusalem SWAT team. I'm not saying they were dressed in black. I'm not saying they had hoods over their face.
Starting point is 01:00:55 But just think of, they didn't have vests. But think of the most menacing looking group of law enforcement officers you could imagine, ready for business. Like, I dare you. I dare you to resist arrest. We're going to put you down quickly. They came for action. And they were expecting it. So, the armed force betrays the fear and the insecurity of the authorities. They prepared for excessive force to arrest Jesus. And Rick Josephus, he actually talks about that at times of the Passover, there was a special elite force that would protect the temple,
Starting point is 01:01:54 be at the temple porch and everything. And their purpose was to keep the crowds under control. So if you can think of it this way, they were sort of the riot police. And when we think of riot police today, they're in helmets and face masks and armor. And, you know, they're there to control a riot. Well, that's what these guys were for. They were to control any riots that might attempt to take place at Passover. Yeah, these weren't just night watchmen. This was an elite group
Starting point is 01:02:29 of law enforcement officers. Trained, armed, and experienced. They had been involved in other violent confrontations with criminals. So, the arresting party's weapons and torches symbolize both the readiness for conflict and their blindness to the true peaceful nature of Jesus.
Starting point is 01:03:03 Right. You have this contrast between human suspicion and divine peace. They still didn't understand who this man was. If they had listened to him and truly observed him, they would have known he was a peaceful man. He still is today. They would have known he's not going to resist. That's not his nature. But they were suspicious, and Jesus was peaceful and tranquil.
Starting point is 01:03:48 So it reveals their fear. While Jesus' composed response illustrates the calmness of his heart and his divine trust in his father, and his surrender to his father's plan. See, if he had not been in submission to his father's plan, he would have resisted. In fact, if he wasn't in submission to his father's plans, he never would have gone to the garden, because Judas knew he would go to the garden. Right.
Starting point is 01:04:30 He went to the garden to make it easy on Judas. You know, Judas made a list of the top five places he's probably hiding tonight. I'd say number one is the garden. That was their first stop. that's why Jesus went there he knew it would be Judas's first stop looking for him but Jesus's calm anticipation of the arrest shows us his trust in his father's sovereign control. And it affirms the divine providence, even amid human betrayal, that God's plan was at work in the betrayal of Christ.
Starting point is 01:05:29 Now, I mentioned the torches. They brought lanterns and torches. So they have a strategic advantage to locate Jesus in the dark. But there's a spiritual layer to this narrative. The darkness represents Judas' betrayal. The light marks the revelation of his true identity. Amen. Amen.
Starting point is 01:06:24 Think about what i just said the uses of torches in the dark provides a contrast where humans used artificial light to locate the true light they came in darkness. Darkness of betrayal. Darkness of evil intentions. They came with artificial light to find and arrest the true light of the world. Praise God. Boy, there's a sermon in there.
Starting point is 01:06:59 Oh, I know, Doc. I can just hear R.W. Schambach spilling that one out, Rick. Is that a good one? That that a good one that's a good one isn't it that was worth getting up this morning to hear um the arresting party arrived just before dawn we talked about this yesterday what the hours were um so there was a this was a covert operation to locate arrest apprehend and imprison jesus before the sun came up before the people of jerusalem had their first cup of tea, before the word got out on the street, they arrested Jesus.
Starting point is 01:08:00 You can imagine the uproar, what they were anticipating. When the buzz would get out on the street jesus has been arrested they wanted to get it done before daylight to avoid public attention and avoid interference from his admirers there is a secrecy a predetermined nature of this arrest. This was all worked out in advance. But despite the forceful nature of the measures that the temple police used Jesus had foreknowledge of these events and that that speaks of the divine control and that he willingly submitted to what was part of God's plan of salvation for mankind.
Starting point is 01:09:15 This is the just amazing part of this story. I'm in awe of it. That God had this marvelous, perfect, divine plan that required his son to be betrayed and murdered. Yes. For my sake. For me. When you put it in a personal term, he did this for you, then you appreciate You better. You more comprehend.
Starting point is 01:10:07 Your obligation. To return that love. And devotion and commitment to Christ. And how do we do it? Well. Through worship. Through praise. Through obedience.
Starting point is 01:10:23 If you love him. his commandments yes he's saying here I love you I allowed them to arrest me I allowed them to nail me to a cross for you I did it for you now I did it because I love you. If you love me, keep my commandments. See, on our end of this transaction, we don't have to be nailed to a cross. Just our will. It's only our will that has to be nailed to the cross. Now, we deserve the cross. Yes.
Starting point is 01:11:04 We deserve it, but we don't get it. And the only thing that has to be nailed to the cross is our human will, our desire to do what we want to do. And when you allow the Holy Spirit to nail your will to the cross, you are now in communion with christ on the cross he submitted his will to his father's will he said let this cup pass from me but by the end of the evening he was saying saying, let your will be done. Not my will, but yours. Forget 48.
Starting point is 01:11:51 Now he who betrayed him had given them a sign saying, whoever I kiss, he is the one, seize him. So Judas had prearranged a sign. It's got a secret identification. You watch me. He's telling the, you know, he told the arresting officers before they left Jerusalem. Look, guys, there's going to be 12 of them there. It's going to be dark's going to be 12 of them there it's going to be dark keep your eyes on me
Starting point is 01:12:28 i'm going to kiss jesus when you see me kissing you you charge him you run him you tackle him he's the one and rick you and i have both been at the garden or where they say the garden is. And I don't know if it was as thick then as it is now, but there's a tight cluster of trees. I mean, so navigating that, imagine it's dark, even though it was probably a full moon since it was Passover, but we don't know if it was cloudy or not or anything. They had torches, so they needed to see. But imagine navigating a, probably a better description would be a thicket of trees. You know, and you've got these soldiers there, and you've got disciples in there.
Starting point is 01:13:21 A lot of things could happen in close quarters, torches and staves and everything. So it wasn't like the movies portray it. It was, they were in close quarters together. That's right. So somewhere in that grove of trees, there's one group of eight disciples. Right. He told them, sit here. No doubt they had not at all from going to sleep we don't even know about them the last we hear of them is jesus said sit here he then went deeper into the grove of olive trees he took three more disciples with him, Peter, James, and John. They're now sitting there, and they're passed out. They're not sitting anymore.
Starting point is 01:14:12 They're sprawled out on the ground. They're asleep. And Jesus is standing there talking to them, saying, sleep on, sleep on. Go on, little guys. Just keep sleeping. The one who's going to betray me into the hands of the sinner, he's here. Whether Jesus saw him out of the corner of his eye coming with the torches or his spirit perceived, they're about to rush the olive grove. I don't know.
Starting point is 01:14:46 He just knew that they were there. He knew in his spirit. The moment has come. They're going to arrest me now. So Judas had prearranged with the law enforcement team back in Jerusalem. I'm going to give you a secret sign. When we go in there, it's going to be really dark. I will identify Jesus.
Starting point is 01:15:15 I'll recognize him and I'll run up to him and I'll hug him and kiss him. And when you see me kiss him, that's the one you need to tackle. Think about that conversation, Doc. Yes. Judas in Jerusalem. Working out the details of the arrest of Jesus Christ. Yeah, that's why this is not just a stumble. It's not just a fall.
Starting point is 01:15:48 No, or peer pressure or anything. No, he planned this out. This wasn't manslaughter. This was murder. He willingly participated in a murder, a deicide and that's why that's why the gospel always refers to him as one of the 12 to make sure everybody remembers hey he was on the inside his betrayal was a crime at the highest level. Now, so the sign is, Judas says, I'm going to kiss him.
Starting point is 01:16:34 Okay, so here in Western societies, our society frowns on men kissing men. But greeting close friends with kisses on both cheeks was common and is still common today in the Middle East. It's not a, people don't frown on it. It's part of the culture. It's been part of the culture for thousands of years. When you're in the Middle East, when you're visiting an Arab country,
Starting point is 01:17:12 you will see men greeting men, kissing their cheeks. You'll see women kissing the cheeks of women who are their friends. It's the way you greet people. Now, it's not done with a stranger. It's the closest friends. And so a kiss on both cheeks means you are my dear friend. We have a bond. We are tight. We we're close there's affection
Starting point is 01:17:48 that's what it means it's a it's a sign of intimacy not romantic intimacy but friendship a deep love a a con you know a bond with another person. You are my brother. Come here. Give him a hug and a kiss on each cheek. So that's the context here. So Judas' kiss only intensified his treachery because he used a symbol of close friendship to betray the Son of God. Now, there are two words here for kiss. And in this verse, we're going to focus on one word and then the next verse we'll look
Starting point is 01:18:48 at the second word in this verse the greek word used for kiss is phileo yes it means to love to have affection for to be fond of to cherish it comes from the Greek word feels meaning friend my my dear loved friend this is not romantic love this is love between sisters close close friendship it phileo expresses a love that is characterized by friendship affection fondness it means a warm, tender, personal love, an emotional bond. Again, in Arab countries, if you see two men embrace and kiss each other's cheeks, you know these men are close friends. They trust each other. There's a bond between them. And that's what makes this kiss by Judas so disgusting.
Starting point is 01:20:28 Because he's using an act of close friendship affection to betray someone that he is saying I love this person right so even today 2,000 years later if you if you talk about somebody betraying another person it's common that we'll end up saying yeah that's a Judas and he kissed he gave him the kiss of betrayal two thousand years later this is still known as a dastardly act right so Judas's kiss which was a token of deep friendship is now a tool for betrayal and this distortion of what was supposed to be an affectionate affectionate gesture now becomes a means of treachery. So Judas instructed the arresting party to hold him fast. You grab the one I kiss. Hold him fast. holding fast and so the scene now has has developed where Christ is now in the
Starting point is 01:21:58 actual act of being betrayed by his one of his his disciples one of his one of the men in his inner circle all right think about Judas's talking what else can you just describe it other than madness For Judas to think that he could outwit God. Luke 22 3 says that Satan had already entered him. So Satan was in Judas at this time.
Starting point is 01:22:35 Yes, that's it, Doc. You got it. So, that's the answer. And I don't know if you were going to explain the differences between the kiss in verse 48 and the kiss and verse that's where i'm headed that's where i'm headed right now verse 49 and forthwith he came to jesus and said hail master and kissed him so master or rabbi or teacher this is is a title reserved for the most respected teachers in Judaism.
Starting point is 01:23:11 And so he's attempting to present his loyalty to Jesus. Master, oh, revered teacher, come here. Let me hug you. Let me kiss you. I respect you so much. I revere you, Master, Rabbi, Teacher. Filled with lies and treachery.
Starting point is 01:23:49 The King James translators use the old English word hail. Hail master. Yes. The Greek word is kareo. And kareo means to rejoice, be glad joyful to be happy yes so this is he uses a word that means inner joy and delight in especially in response to god's goodness and grace so imagine that he judas came up to to Jesus with a big old smile. That's really what this means, isn't it?
Starting point is 01:24:33 He came up to Jesus with a big old smile while Jesus is being held. Think about that, too. The armed guards are holding Jesus. Judas told them, hold him fast. Hold him. Have they grabbed him at this point? I don't know. I can't imagine.
Starting point is 01:24:53 The way it plays out in my mind, they're holding Jesus. No, I think he said, I think it was, hey, the one I kiss is the one you grab. I understand that, but... I think physically seizing him came immediately when he embraced and kissed Jesus. So, what I want you to see here in this word that King James says is hail, it's perio. This is a word of joy, of happiness. And it's used in the New Testament to express the joy that Christian believers experience through their relationship with Jesus Christ and their hope of salvation. I mean, it's blasphemous to use that word. I mean, you talk about two-faced. Oh, yes.
Starting point is 01:25:55 This is the ultimate example of being two-faced. To embrace somebody with a big grin on your face that means, I am joyful because of my relationship with you and my hope of salvation. Cario, again, is a term of affection affection it's associated with joy and goodwill and by using this term as a tool of betrayal judas adds a layer of irony to his actions corrupting what should be a heartfelt greeting into something sinister now let's get back to this topic of the kiss there's much more to this the verse says and forthwith he came to Jesus and said, Hail, Master, and kissed him. Now this is the second time kiss is used.
Starting point is 01:27:09 Remember we just studied it in the preceding verse. Phileo. This time it's a different Greek word. Okay. It's a different Greek word. Okay? This word means multiple kisses. So I didn't know this until a couple years ago. I always imagine, in my mind, my Western mind, you know,
Starting point is 01:27:50 I imagine Judas literally almost like ran up and said, all right, I got to give him a kiss, okay? All right. Gave him a little quick peck on the cheek and said, there he is, grab him, I kissed him, all right? Uh-uh, that's not the way it happened. When you understand this Greek word, Judas did not kiss Jesus once on one cheek. He did not kiss Jesus once on both cheeks.
Starting point is 01:28:25 The Greek word implies that Judas' kiss was not a simple gesture, but an exaggerated, repeated action. Yes. The word means enthusiastic, repeated kisses. In other words, he slobbered over Jesus. I don't know any other way to say it. That's probably the best description there, Rick, that cata phileo. It means more than just a peck on the cheek. It means, when I think of it, in my mind, I think of the scene in The Godfather where Michael Corleone kisses his brother.
Starting point is 01:29:01 And just doesn't give him a little kiss, but kisses him hard. And we know it's the kiss of death for his brother. This is the kiss of death here for Jesus. Yes. So the word has that inference of a strong, strong kisses. Not just a little peck but strong kisses and multiple kisses so he's kissing jesus on his left cheek on his right cheek on his chin on his forehead he's kissing him everywhere jesus i love you jesus i love you master oh let me kiss you some more. I love you, but I'm going to betray you. And Jesus is standing there. He's standing there letting Judas slobber over him. Knowing that he's betrayed him.
Starting point is 01:30:08 You know, I can just see Jesus is standing there emotional it's like whatever Judas okay that's 15 kisses that's 18 kisses that's okay is that enough is that enough have you kissed me enough doc why why did judas why did he pretend this this exaggerated display of affection was it his conscience i mean this is over the top this is an exaggerated display of affection. Well, if Satan was in him, think about that too. Add that layer to it as well. So it's not just Judas kissing Jesus.
Starting point is 01:30:55 It's Satan kissing Jesus. Oh, oh, oh. Oh, man. I never thought about that, Doc. The devil coming up and kissing the Son of God. To kill him. Passionately kissing him. Oh, never thought about that one, Doc.
Starting point is 01:31:20 I mean, on the surface level, it's to ensure that the soldiers in the dark could see who he was kissing. On the surface level. Right. But below the surface, he's camouflaging his treacherous heart. I'm lying to you Jesus I'm telling you that I love you passionately I I adore you I I'm bonded to you I'm affectionate to you it's all lie all of it is a lie but if it's's Satan, if you think about it on that level, here's the very one that said, I will ascend to heaven.
Starting point is 01:32:10 I will be like the Most High. And now, so here is the one who rebelled against heaven itself, against God himself in heaven, walking up to the Son of God. And it's almost as if to say, I've won. I've won. This is the kiss goodbye. There goes the first goose. There's the one.
Starting point is 01:32:41 I told you they were coming. No, I know who that is. That's Gabby. No, really, that's Gabby the goose. I know her. Okay? I named her. She's an Egyptian goose.
Starting point is 01:32:58 She's been living here at my property and the neighbor's property for about two years. But her breed is Egyptian. And I guess somehow they got introduced into America and turned loose in the wild, and now they're populating. But she's a beautiful goose, but she is she is talkative i that's why i named her gabby gabby the goose um because when she lands she doesn't stop talking she's honking the whole time all right so she she just went by and let me know she was here okay um one more thing about about the kiss so this isn't the only time Jesus received multiple kisses from somebody
Starting point is 01:33:55 you had the woman who kissed Jesus's feet in Luke 7 she didn't just give him one little kiss on the top of one foot she was she kissed his feet multiple times she was expressing her love her devotion her her affection for jesus by kissing all over both feet. And then you have the prodigal son and the father. The father didn't just give him a little kiss on the forehead. Hey, son, I thought you were dead. Glad to see you home. Come on in. No, the father, the father ran to him and kissed his son many times out of a heart overflowing with happiness and gladness
Starting point is 01:35:01 and love and affection that his son had come back. His son's covered in slop. His son has got, he stinks. He's been living with the pigs. And his father can't stop kissing him. Yes. So you compare, that's genuine love. That's genuine affection.
Starting point is 01:35:20 Now compare that to Judas' fake love and affection. So it was not an impulsive act. The kiss was not an impulsive act, but it was a premeditated act that had been arranged beforehand with the arresting party. And the prearrangement speaks of the calculated nature of Judas' betrayal and how far he had strayed from his discipleship under Jesus Christ. How did he get in this condition? It didn't happen overnight. That's where Zionism takes you Rick you will eventually betray this Christ you you will eventually disavow Christ and betray him
Starting point is 01:36:22 um the act of betrayal occurred in darkness in the quiet of the Garden of Gethsemane when Jesus is vulnerable which makes Jesus' betrayal a cowardly act as well as treacherous. Despite the intensity of Judas' fake display of affection,
Starting point is 01:37:01 Jesus responded calmly and referred to him as friend. Jesus. Wow. I think there's several reasons, obviously, Jesus gave us a model for responding to betrayal. A model for responding to deep hurts from another person. How to respond with grace rather than anger and resentment yes he stood there and he allowed judas to kiss him he didn't he didn't shove him off and go get out of get away from me you freak Isn't that what we would do? Yes. You lying sack of, get out of here.
Starting point is 01:38:10 Go away from me. I know what you're up to. No, Jesus stood there. You know, Rick, this is the same word that's used in the parable of the wedding garments. Where the king says, the person that doesn't have the wedding garments, very same word, friend, how can you stop a man without a wedding garment?
Starting point is 01:38:36 Wow. Very same word. Judas didn't belong, did he? He didn't have his, he wasn't dressed to be a disciple. Wow, that's good dog. So he calls him friend. There's also a touch of sarcasm. Jesus, hi, friend. Good to see you, friend. I've been waiting for you.
Starting point is 01:39:15 I knew you were coming, friend. My dear old buddy, old pal, Judas. Let me go on to next verse, verse 50. And Jesus said unto him, Friend, wherefore art thou come? Then came they and laid hands on Jesus and took him. Jesus asked him, Why have you come? He knew the answer. Why did Jesus ask him? Why have you come? He knew the answer. Why did Jesus ask him, why have you come? Well, it's like Jesus asking the blind man,
Starting point is 01:40:10 what do you want me to do for you? Jesus, why did Jesus ask the blind man, what do you want me to do for you? Because he wanted the blind man to speak with his mouth. I want you to fix my eyes. I want you to heal my eyes. I want you to heal my eyes. I want to see. So he says to Judas, why have you come?
Starting point is 01:40:29 And he doesn't answer. He didn't answer. He said, set him up to give the truth. Come on, Judas. Speak the truth. Why have you come? You didn't come out here at three o'clock in the morning to give me a kiss.
Starting point is 01:40:49 Why are you here? Tell us. Speak it, Judas. Speak the truth. Judas couldn't speak the truth because he was a liar and deceiver, a thief. He was two-faced. So, Jesus is fully aware of Judas' intention. And he makes the question a mirror for Judas to confront his betrayal.
Starting point is 01:41:22 That's what he's doing. He's holding up a mirror in front of Judas. Judas, look into this mirror. What do you see? Why have you come? So, the kissing has stopped. Jesus stopped the kissing by saying, why have you come?
Starting point is 01:41:47 At that point, Judas couldn't kiss him anymore. So Jesus asked a question to shift the focus from the outward gestures of kissing to the true intention of betrayal. Yes. The kiss marked the point of Judas' ultimate rejection of Christ. Maybe he could have turned around before he got there. But Satan had entered into him. And the kiss exposed Judas' abandonment of his calling, his discipleship, his personal connection to
Starting point is 01:42:46 Jesus Jesus Christ right that was the moment that was the act of betrayal right there because he could have turned around on the way to the garden because I'm not going to do this guys here's the money well he didn't he didn't have the money I didn't have a silver he could have said I'm not going to do this, guys. Here's the money. Well, he didn't have the money yet. He didn't have the silver. He could have said, I'm not going to do it. I thought this out. I'm not going to do it. But he didn't. He went through with it.
Starting point is 01:43:14 And there comes a moment when you're going to sin. There comes a moment where you actually enter into the sin. You can be thinking about the sin. You can be making plans to sin. You can be contemplating the sin, but you haven't sinned until you sinned. Okay? Until you get to that place. This is the place
Starting point is 01:43:44 where the thought of betrayal became the act of betrayal. He crossed the line when he kissed Jesus. It was a kiss of death, all right. A kiss of death, yep. See, there we go again. There's another common phrase, isn't it? It was a kiss of death, all right. A kiss of death, yep. See, there we go again. There's another common phrase, isn't it? The kiss of death.
Starting point is 01:44:13 Where does that come from? Comes from these scriptures. Verse 51, and behold, one of them which were with Jesus stretched out his hand and drew his sword and struck a servant of the high priest and smote off his ear. So Matthew, Mark, and Luke did not name Peter. But John did. Yes. I wonder why John said, hey, I'm going to out him. I don't necessarily think it was that way.
Starting point is 01:44:53 He was just... I know, but why did three of them not name Peter, but one did? Well, I hadn't really thought about that before, but John is generally considered to be the final gospel written. And so maybe he felt like enough time had passed that he could say it. Yes. But he not only identifies Peter, but he identifies the guy that got his ear cut off, Malchus. Malchus, yes. So did John do it that way to imply that Peter and Malchus
Starting point is 01:45:34 knew each other, had a close association, a friendship? There's a possibility. Peter recognizes that's my friend Malchus. He's arresting my Lord. But John identifies Peter and Malchus. Malchus is the one that got his ear chopped off. Okay. So Malchus, according to John, was a servant of a high priest. And so that may imply, Doc, that Malchus maybe was the commanding officer, right? That he was leading the SWAT team.
Starting point is 01:46:38 He was the servant, not a servant, the servant of the high priest. The disciples, we learn here, the disciples were armed. They carried swords for self-defense. So they believed in concealed carry. So Jesus was traveling with swords how does that affect people's theology fits right in with mine mine too
Starting point is 01:47:23 I have a firearm on me right now right in with mine. Mine too. I have a firearm on me right now and I don't intend to use it on anyone offensively, but if somebody is trying to hurt Susan's sitting a few feet away from me, I'm going to use it. You might
Starting point is 01:47:41 take off somebody's ear, right? I might. I might. I might. Real possibility. But several of the disciples were carrying swords. Yes. Peter struck Malchus. He went for the head.
Starting point is 01:48:02 I mean, he was going to split his head like a watermelon but he he missed the head and cut off his right ear Luke tells us that Jesus healed Malchus's ear right think about that now Malchus is screaming. Just think of the scene there in the dark. You've got soldiers holding, you know, you've got the SWAT team, they're there with their swords, they're holding torches and lanterns.
Starting point is 01:48:38 The disciples have drawn first blood. Yes. The first blood has now been drawn. The other disciples, the other eight you know they're now awake they're kind of rushing towards the scene here what's going on they hear the shouting they hear malchus screaming he cut off my ear he cut off my ear the other guys are the other officers the arresting officers, they're stunned. We've got violence.
Starting point is 01:49:07 It's already started. The fight is on. You've got to know they've got their swords out now. Yes. And what does Jesus do? He calmly bends down and picks up Malchus' ear off the ground and lovingly attaches it to his head the love of jesus de-escalated the situation that's what it was doc yes he de-escalated what was going to be a violent confrontation he did it to spare the lives of his disciples.
Starting point is 01:49:47 He knew Peter would fight. He knew Peter would fight. It's the one thing Peter definitely would carry out. I like to say, Peter, I think of Peter as the Jewish redneck in the bunch. Okay. He's like, he's got a sword and he's swinging. He's not going to allow Jesus to be taken. He had said earlier, no way, Lord.
Starting point is 01:50:21 No way. I'll die with you. Well, right there, he's ready to die. He's ready to take on a whole contingent of heavily armed temple police, a SWAT team. But Jesus de-escalated the situation by calmly picking up Malchus's ear and putting it back on his head and rick in spite of this in spite of him healing malchus they still arrested him they still arrested him how do you explain it? Did Malchus say, thank you, Jesus, I appreciate that. You're under arrest.
Starting point is 01:51:16 Or was Malchus so stunned that he just kind of stepped back and he couldn't carry out the arrest himself and the other guys had to do it? And not only that, there was probably some of his relatives there too and the reason why i know that john chapter 18 tells us that when peter was waiting outside during jesus's trial and he denied jesus it says in john 18 26 one of the servants of the high priest being his kinsman whose ear peter cut off sa, did not I see thee in the garden with him? Good point. Good point. So, pre-Pentecost.
Starting point is 01:52:03 The Peter that was pre-Pentecost, his attributes was he had strong zeal and loyalty to Jesus. His weaknesses were a lack of restraint. He would just talk. He'd just do things. He'd get out of a boat on water and start walking.
Starting point is 01:52:32 That's Peter. He'll just start speaking whatever comes out of his mouth. That's Peter before Pentecost. So there's a danger of uncontrolled zeal good intentions must be tempered by submission to God's will God's will was for Jesus to be arrested. Peter, his intention was to stop the arrest. His heart was right, his motive was right, but his actions were wrong. So Jesus rebuked Peter, discouraged the use of violence,
Starting point is 01:53:27 and willingly submitted to God's plan and you know says you know I could I could I could call down twelve legions of angels verse Verse 52, Then said Jesus unto them, Put up again thy sword into this place, into his place, for all they that take the sword shall perish with the sword. So, Doc, why were they carrying swords?
Starting point is 01:54:01 Was Jesus against having swords? No, he told them earlier to take the sword with you. That's right. was Jesus against having swords? No, he told them earlier to take the sword with you. That's right. But don't live by the sword. Right. It's for protection. It's not for offensive actions. It's not for violence against others to get your way.
Starting point is 01:54:27 So put your sword back into its place. That's his rejection of violence. And he's signaling to the disciples that his mission will not be advanced by physical force. All who take the sword will die by the sword it means that those who use violence to advance their calls often self-destruct. There's a cyclical nature of violence where aggressive actions produce dangerous outcomes. Think about January 6th. A lot of people at the capitol with the right the right motives
Starting point is 01:55:31 um but they got they got pulled in by a mob mentality right and a lot of them are sitting in prisons right now um our so-called Christian patriots don't want to hear that. We have in this country there's a mindset among Christians, some Christians, that hey, if we have to use violence, that's what we have to do.
Starting point is 01:55:59 That's not what Jesus taught us. what Jesus was. Verse 53, Thinkest thou that I cannot now pray to my Father, and he shall presently give me more than twelve legions of angels? He's saying,
Starting point is 01:56:21 I could snap my fingers right now and have twelve legions of angels here lickety-split. You guys would be toast. Do you not comprehend the power I have? I'm letting you arrest me. You're not doing it. I'm allowing you to do it. And I'm allowing you to do it because it's my father's plan
Starting point is 01:56:48 and you're going to carry out his plan and then after you carry it out there will be an opportunity for you to repent for the evil actions you did you wonder how many of those men got saved carried out, there will be an opportunity for you to repent for the evil actions you did. You wonder how many of those men got saved. How many of them got saved after this years later? What about Malchus? Did he get saved?
Starting point is 01:57:26 I don't know if there's anything in the church traditions of whether malchus got saved church tradition says not only did he get saved there's some traditions you know it can fuzzy there but that jesus actually appeared to malchus at some point in the future and there's also a couple of references to the gospel of malchus that was written but there's no copies that exist to this day right so but yeah there's some traditions that have that wait i know we're over time here um presently now it means heaven's help is available to Jesus now, right now. Legions of angels, 72,000 angels. Again, that's what he's saying. I could snap my fingers.
Starting point is 01:58:18 I could ask my father. I'd have 72,000 angels here now on top of you. That's the power I have. That's who I am. But they couldn't comprehend it. And all they saw was a man. And so anyhow, we'll pick this up. Verse 54, but how then shall the scriptures be fulfilled that thus it must be?
Starting point is 01:58:54 Yes. So it's God's plan. It's his timing. We got to go. We're six minutes over our time limit. Yeah, Rick, remind me to tell you about the sword of Peter. And it's sitting in a cathedral in Poland right now. At least that's the legend. I'll tell you all about it.
