This is True News for Wednesday, August 28, 2024. Let's begin our analysis and commentary of today's headlines by revisiting a story we discussed yesterday. Reuters published an updated report today on Sergei Lavrov's warning about World War III. And so the headline, Russia warns the United States of the risk of World War III. And it begins with Reuters saying Russia said the West was playing with fire by considering allowing Ukraine to strike deep into Russia with Western missiles and cautioned the United States on Tuesday that World War III would not be confined to Europe. Sergei Lavrov, who has been foreign minister for 20 years, said that the West was seeking to escalate the Ukraine war and was asking for trouble by considering Ukrainian requests to loosen curbs on using foreign supplied weapons. And then Mr. Lavrov told

reporters in Moscow, quote, we are now confirming once again that playing with fire, and they are like small children playing with matches, is a very dangerous thing for grown-up uncles and aunts who are entrusted with nuclear weapons in one or another Western country. Americans unequivocally associate conversations about World War III as something that, God forbid, if it happens, will affect Europe exclusively, said Mr. Lavrov. And then the article says that Russia, Mr. Lavrov told the reporters that Russia was clarifying its nuclear doctrine.

And when we talk about the nuclear doctrine, that's the legal policy each nuclear-armed nation has that determines what is the legal and rightful use of nuclear weapons. So, Doc, if they're clarifying their nuclear doctrine, they're changing the wording in their internal documents to make it legal to do what they have already decided they must do. If your policy says you can't do this, but you want to do it, you change the policy. Right. Then it's legal.

Right. As simple as that. And whatever you can say about the Russians and the Chinese, for that matter, anything they do, they'll do it by the book. Precisely. They'll do it by the rules. But they change the book to fit their plans. That's the point I'm trying to make.

And the West does it, too. We do it, too. But Lavrov is telling us, oh, by the way, we're revising our nuclear doctrine. Just, we're clarifying it. We're making sure you completely understand what we're saying here. We'll use them. So, Doc, you know, we talked about this yesterday. Lavrov's saying the United

States, the West, is playing with fire. They're playing with matches. Very dangerous for children to play with matches. Well, the grown-ups have nuclear weapons. Yes, and he said Americans,

when they think about World War III, they think it's going to happen in Europe. It's not going to happen on American soil. That is a clear threat to the American people. When this war breaks out, we're going to use them on you. You're foolish to think that we wouldn't do it. Now, our headline for today's program is Game of Chicken. West gambles that Putin is afraid to use nuclear weapons. So the mindset in the West is they're not going to do anything.

They're not going to do anything. We can just keep going. We can keep pushing. And that's – we'll get some other headlines today. They think exactly that. They're making plans to strike deeper and deeper into Russian territory. But that doesn't mean the Russians are thinking like that. Right.

Like, okay, we're just going to keep backing up and backing up, and we're going to let you march all the way into Red Square. That's not going to happen. There are not going to be German tanks in Moscow. But the West thinks it's going to happen. Why? Because they have crossed Putin's red lines, and he has not struck the West with nuclear weapons. Not yet. Not yet.

But they are foolishly interpreting his restraint as weakness. Not yet. Yes. What is Putin waiting on? How long is this going to go on? We're going to get to these stories here in a moment. But inside this other one, Doc, this Reuters article, this is 1D. It says, Russia has said that Western weaponry, including British tanks and U.S. rocket systems, have been used by Ukraine in Kursk. Kiev has been using U.S. HIMimer missiles to take out bridges in Russia. Putin's foreign intelligence chief, Sergei, what is his name? Naryshkin. Naryshkin said on Tuesday that Moscow did not believe Western assertions that it had nothing to do with the invasion of Russia.

If you're going to tell a lie, tell a big one. And Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Ryabkov said that the involvement of the United States was an obvious fact. And no less than the New York Times reported that the U.S. and Britain provided Ukraine with satellite imagery and other information about the Kursk region in the days after the Ukrainian attack, and likely before the Ukrainian attack, too. So...

Now, we mentioned that Sergei Lavrov, the foreign minister, said that the nuclear doctrine is being revised, being updated. TASS has this article. Lavrov recalled the position of the American side, which thinks that Europe will be the first to suffer should a new world war break out. In particular, he drew attention to statements by White House National Security Council coordinator and communicator John Kirby. What did Mr. Kirby say that got Lavrov's attention? Well, he said, in general, this is a telling detail reflecting the mentality of American planners and geostrategists who are convinced that they will stay unaffected.

Now, that's a comment by Lavrov, not Kirby. Right. He says the way they express their thoughts is Freudian in a sense. World War III is bad because we don't want Europe to be harmed. This is the gist of the American mentality, the mentality of the master who stays on the other side of the ocean, certain about one's safety and convincing not only Ukrainians but also Europeans, as it has turned out, will do all the dirty work. And so Kirby's statements had to do with the fact that we're fighting over in Europe, we're fighting in Ukraine, we're not having to fight the Russians here, which has

been that line for a long time at this point. Let's put the headline back up on. I'm always amazed by Sergei Lavrov's facial pose. Yeah, he's smiling right there, by the way. I just want to break out in, when you're smiling. The whole world smiles with you. He went to school to keep a face like that. Yeah, and he's obviously done a great job at it. You can't find a photograph of him.

20 years. You can't find a photograph of him smiling. Oh, just one. I saw him smoking a cigarette and he was smiling. So a cigarette. He didn't know that a photographer was nearby. That's why. That's why.

Well, now, Mr. Lavrov did make a statement to press remarking on the clarification of nuclear doctrine here. We have an English translation of this. This is from RT. Let's watch. Americans have this direct association, these conversations, this talk of a world war. They think that if this

happens, it would only concern Europe, which is a very showing thing that reflects the mentality of those geopolitical strategists in the US, because they are confident that they will just be safe across the ocean. And in this situation, one has to understand that we have our own doctrine a doctrine of using nuclear weapons among other things and we are now making adjustments to this doctrine and the American Americans are well aware of this doctrine and you know these are Freudian sleep the World War III is a bad thing because we

do not want Europe to suffer that's the the mentality of the Americans, mentality of masters that are sitting on the other bank across the ocean. They are certain of their safety and security, and they are confident that there would be someone else to die for them, to do their dirty job for them, not only Ukrainians, but now Europeans as well. So we heard these speculations regarding allowing to use not only Ukrainians, but now Europeans as well. And in Washington, an anonymous source said that there is an ongoing effort that they are looking into a request from Ukraine in a positive light.

I do not want to add anything to that. The president has already spoken on these many occasions, and we reaffirmed this once again, that playing with fire, and they are like little kids who are playing games with matches. It's a dangerous thing for adults who were trusted with nuclear weapons in West Country. So if you don't get anything else out of that, basically what he's saying is this war is not going to be limited to Europe. We'll bring it to the U.S. if we have to. We'll adjust whatever doctrine, nuclear doctrine we have. You guys are adjusting your doctrine. Back a year ago, two years ago, no storm shadow missiles, no attackams were going to be used by Ukraine. Remember that?

Boy Scouts honor, swear on a Bible, all this other stuff. We knew it was a lie then. The Russians knew it was a lie. And then when they gave them the weapons, they said they would only be used inside Ukraine. Yes. Against Russian forces in Ukraine. And now,

then they said, well, they can be used on the border. Now, they're saying, well, they can go deep inside Russia. And next week or in the next two or three weeks, it's going to be it's OK to strike Moscow. But before they strike Moscow, they're going to hit. They're going to hit hundreds of other Russian targets, military bases and oil depots.

They're going to save downtown Moscow for last. Right. They're going to work their way towards Moscow. Doug, and we're going to show you some of the comments inside Russia questioning what Mr. Putin is doing. Obviously, the Russians are fighting inside their country. All right. That means the U.S. and Great Britain and France and Germany are going to rush military equipment into inside Russia to help Ukraine hold on to Russian territory. That's what that means. Right. You're going to they're going to we know for certain they're going to encounter a fight because we're going to supply the weapons and ammo. Right. OK. But the Russians are fighting.

They clearly are fighting. But many people are wondering. Why hasn't Putin just flattened Ukraine? That's the way you end this invasion. Most people are thinking this. I'm talking about outside the United States. They're thinking the way that the Russians would deal with the invasion is simply flatten Ukraine. Why are they holding off? It's been three weeks now. Imagine if Texas were under control of Mexico with Russian weapons

supplied by Moscow to Mexico. And three weeks have gone by. We would be saying, when is Biden going to flatten Mexico? How long is he going to allow Mexico to hold on to Texas?
