Episode Date: June 10, 2025

In today’s Morning Manna, Rick and Doc explore the deep wisdom found in Proverbs 3:7–12, guiding listeners into the heart of God’s fatherly discipline. These verses warn against self-reliance an...d pride, calling instead for holy reverence and trust in the Lord — even when He corrects us.The message powerfully frames chastisement as evidence of divine love, not punishment. God’s discipline isn’t rejection; it’s refinement. Through humble surrender, reverence, and obedience — including honoring the Lord with our substance — we are invited into a life of health, provision, and purpose.Whether you're on the mountaintop or in a season of pruning, today’s teaching reminds you: correction is confirmation that you are a beloved child of God.Rick Wiles, Doc Burkhart. And of course, if you are a member of Faith and Values, you can access the archives any time of the day. So whichever methods you're using, welcome, we're glad to have you here We are in the book of proverbs chapter 3 today verses 7 through 12 Let's pray and then doc will read the proverbs for us. We'll begin our study. Almighty. God our dear heavenly father Father we love you. We come to you in the name of jesus with adoration and praise father We come to you in the name of Jesus with adoration and praise Father we are here to seek wisdom and understanding and discretion You have promised to give it to us liberally
Starting point is 00:01:35 So father we are asking and our our mouths are open All right feed us father in the name of Jesus. Amen Alright, feed us Father, in the name of Jesus, Amen. Amen. As Rick mentioned, we are in Proverbs chapter 3, continuing our study through this book of wisdom here. And we're picking it back up today at verse 7, reading verses 7 through 12 this morning. So if you've got your Bibles, turn there with me. Read along with me.
Starting point is 00:02:00 And I'm reading from the King James this morning. Verse 7, plenty, and thy presses shall burst out with new wine. My son despise not the chastening of the Lord, neither be wary of his correction. For whom the Lord loveth, he correcteth, even as a father the son in whom he delighteth. God bless the reading of his word. Amen. OK, so yesterday we finished our lesson with verses five
Starting point is 00:02:43 and six, trust in the Lord with all thy heart. Lean not unto thine own understanding and all thy ways acknowledge him and he shall direct thy pass. But today we begin with verse seven. Be not wise in thine own eyes. Fear the Lord and depart from evil. Our method of teaching is to take each verse and break it into two or three segments and
Starting point is 00:03:13 extract all of the diamonds and gems that we can find in each segment and then put it all together and get the whole picture. So let's start with the first segment. The entire verse is, be not wise in thine own eyes, fear the Lord and depart from evil. So the first segment is, be not wise in thine own eyes, in your own eyes. So this is emphasizing the danger of self-reliance
Starting point is 00:03:48 and the need to reject prideful confidence in our own wisdom. Trusting instead in God's superior understanding. It's very easy to think, I can figure this out. I'll solve the problem. Oh, this one's not that hard. Lord, you can work on the bigger things. I'll take this one. Don't we do that at times? You know, Lord, I don't wanna bother you with this problem. You work on the big ones, I'll take this one. And then what do we do that at times? You know, Lord, I don't wanna bother you with this problem.
Starting point is 00:04:25 You work on the big ones, I'll take this one. And then what do we do? We end up making it a mess. Don't be wise in your own eyes. All right, so it's a warning against arrogance, against pride. It's acknowledging that human wisdom is limited and flawed. God's wisdom is infinite and perfect.
Starting point is 00:05:01 The term wise, don't be wise in your own eyes. The term wise, don't be wise in your own eyes. It's highlighting the temptation to trust in your personal insight. We must recognize at all times that we need God's guidance in everything, even the small things of life. Thine own eyes. It's talking, it's not your neighbor's eyes, it's your eyes. It's like take ownership. The promises are yours, but the warnings are yours too also. And this is a warning. Don't be wise in your eyes. Now the second segment is fear the Lord.
Starting point is 00:05:59 So this is the foundation of true wisdom. The fear of God. Fear the Lord calls for a heart of worship and obedience. Fear is a blend of reverence and love, not fear in the sense of God's gonna hurt you. It's you fear Him out of reverence, out of love. You know, we talk to our Heavenly Father, we become comfortable, intimate with Him. We know that He's our Heavenly Father, He's our sweet Papa, but we have to always remind ourselves He's also God. Yes.
Starting point is 00:06:59 That on His business card it says, Almighty God. On his business card, it says, Almighty God. That's what he does for a living. And we can't ever forget that. We've become very comfortable with him, very intimate with him, but don't forget he's running the universe. Right. Don't forget he made you.
Starting point is 00:07:23 Don't forget he's running the universe. Don't forget he made you. Don't forget that he breathed life into your nostrils. He gave you a soul. He's God, but he's a kind, loving God. And this is depart from evil. So the practical outcome of fearing God is turning away from sin. Yes. That's the practical aspect of it. When you fear God you turn away from sin.
Starting point is 00:07:58 Depart means there's a deliberate action. You can't depart without actually taking steps. If you depart, you know, when I depart an airport, the plane leaves. Right. Depart means movement, movement away. Depart means movement, movement away, depart from evil. Verse eight, anything, Doc, you want to add
Starting point is 00:08:33 to verse seven before I move on? Other than in this day and age, there is a casualness about God and an approach to God, just in culture generally, and unfortunately even in the church. Then there has to be a balance among believers in that he's our father, but he's also God, and the creator God, the same God that will judge all,
Starting point is 00:09:01 I mean, and is judging all now. He's a God of wrath and jealousy and all these other things. And I when you see everyone that's so accepting of casual sin nowadays, perverted sin, and especially sexual sin that's being accepted by the church, it just tells me that they don't have the correct view of God. They really don't see God as a threat. When I was growing up, I loved my dad, but I also know he could tend my hide anytime he so well chose within his purview. Why? Because he was my dad. And he could correct me. And so even though I loved him, there were times where I feared his correction. I mean, not in an abusive manner or anything like that, but I didn't like getting, you know, getting a
Starting point is 00:10:01 spanking. And so but there's a casualness today in our culture that God, you know, you see the bumper sticker, bumper stickers, God is my co pilot, you know, and everything, there's just a general, you know, God's your buddy, you know, God's your pal. Well, there's some truth to that. But before he was your father, he was God. That was his day job. And so he brought you into this world and he can take you out, as my dad used to say. That's right. There needs to be a fear out of respect. You know, if you're a sinner, you should fear God because he can condemn your soul to hell.
Starting point is 00:10:46 For the believer, you should fear God because He's your Father and you respect Him. You love Him. And any correction is good correction. Any chastening is good chastening. Somehow, we've...they missed that lesson out in Sunday school classes and stuff. And so that's just my view from the Penit Gallery here this morning. It keeps you humble. Verse 8, It shall be health to thy navel, marrow to thy bones. Modern English is it shall be health to your body, nourishment to your bones. So now we're talking about the healing power of
Starting point is 00:11:35 fearing God. Yes. You know Doc, I just, it just occurred to me in my entire lifetime as a Christian, I've never heard a sermon, especially coming from ministers that operate, move in the realm of healing. I fully support healing ministries. I've never heard a sermon that said, your healing is connected to your fear of God. God. Look, you put these two together. Yeah, you're right. Be not wise in your own eyes, fear the Lord and depart from evil. Verse eight, it will be health to your body and nourishment to your bones. What's the it? It's the fear of the Lord. Fearing the Lord. Fearing the Lord brings the healing power of God into your life. Fearing the Lord promotes physical, spiritual, emotional well-being.
Starting point is 00:13:11 It shall be health. That's a promise. It shall be health. It's a promise of health. It's a blessing that obedience to God f of God, faith, and good health. The second part of verse 8, the first part is, it shall be health. Second part is, to thy navel. Now, the modern English says, to your body, it's not just your belly button. Right. Well, that's a great picture. Right. God bless your belly button. That's right. There's a sermon, doc. That's right. There's a sermon doc. Belly button blessings.
Starting point is 00:14:31 That'll stay in your mind today. I've never heard that before. Belly button blessings. So this emphasizes the comprehensive scope, the impact of God's wisdom on your body. Yes. Why does the King James use to thy navel? Well, your navel is where you were connected to your mother in the womb. The core of life, the nourishment of life. If you had not been connected to your mother,
Starting point is 00:15:25 how were you gonna get nourishment in the womb? Right. The navel is the center of physical nourishment at that time in your childhood. Right. And then marrow to thy bones. Modern English is nourishment to your bones. So, there's a deep sustaining nourishment that flows from God, from His wisdom, when we fear him.
Starting point is 00:16:09 Marrow to thy bones, nourishment to your bones, life-giving sustenance. That God's wisdom renews the core of your being. the core of your being. It's the essential life force, marrow. There's a popular movement today. A lot of people are eating or drinking bone marrow. Right. Why? Because there's a law on nourishment in Morrow. Right. But the Bible already knew this. The Bible talked about it here in Solomon's day. There's nourishment there. Nourishment, not just for the bones, but for the whole body. Yes. And why the bones?
Starting point is 00:17:09 Because the bones are the framework that holds your body together. It's nourishment to your bones. You know, right now, people that have in this class, if you have bone sickness, bone disease, you need to be standing on this verse. That the fear of God and His wisdom is nourishment to your bones. Yes. Find a verse that fits your situation and cling to it, stand on it. Verse 9, honor the Lord with thy substance and with the first fruits of all thine increase. So this is a call to glorify God, to honor God, worship God through giving. Okay. You can't get away from the biblical principle of giving offerings to God, to glorify God.
Starting point is 00:18:16 You cannot get away from it. I have met people that profess Christianity and yet they steadfastly refuse to give offerings. We are in disobedience. Yes. Honor the Lord with thy substance and with the first fruits of all thine increase. and with the first fruits of all by an increase There are two parts here Okay, so let's the three parts of this this verse honor the Lord is the first part Live a lifestyle that's devoted to the glory of God. Giving reflects gratitude.
Starting point is 00:19:13 Giving and gratitude. Both start with G. They're compatible. People who give are grateful people. You're giving to the Lord. Okay, honor the Lord. You get the offering has to be to Him. Now does He come down? Does His hand come down from the sky and receive your offering? No, that's not how it works. We live in a material world, and we give material offerings to an invisible God. Yes. But we give those material offerings while living on a material earth to an invisible God in heaven, we give those offerings so that his kingdom on earth will be expanded, that the name of his son would be glorified. That's the purpose of the offerings.
Starting point is 00:20:16 You're showing gratitude and a commitment to his kingdom. and a commitment to his kingdom. And that's the purpose of your offerings, to show the Lord how grateful you are for all the blessings that he has given to you. And to use those offerings for his work, his church, which is the preaching of the gospel, to use those offerings for his work, his church, which is the preaching of the gospel, for the care of widows and orphans, for care of the poor.
Starting point is 00:20:56 When you give to the poor, do it in Jesus' name. I always, when I give to a homeless person, I always say, this is not from me, this is from Jesus. I want them to know that. That Jesus Christ in heaven is watching them and expressing his love. So it's, you know, I make sure my offering to the poor is done in His name. So honor the Lord with thy substance. It's emphasizing material possessions for God's glory. Use your wealth your income your possessions your resources as an act of worship It's an act of worship
Starting point is 00:21:59 It's one of the reasons I i've been troubled for years by the modern trend in many religious ministries on TV and radio and now online streaming, and that is to sell items. Here's my book, 1995. In my view, that's not an offering. You're purchasing a product. If somebody says, I'm going to send an offering of $50, $100 to this ministry. If the ministry sends a book or an item in return as a thank you, that's different. The main thing is that the giver has the mindset that he or she is not buying something but giving an offering to God for the propagation of his gospel. Right. And I believe the reason that because of the way Christian TV and radio
Starting point is 00:23:20 and now online ministries the the model that they're using which is just transactional. It leaves faith out of the giving. It leaves worship out. And therefore, the person who sent the funds doesn't get any benefit from heaven. Right, because it becomes a transaction between you and God at that point. And that's not worship. That's a deal. You might as well just buy You give an offering. You give an offering. Lord, I am sending this gift to this ministry so that that ministry shall have the funds to do the work you've given them to do, that your son's name would be glorified, your kingdom
Starting point is 00:24:20 would be expanded. This is how you worship God with your offering. I thank you, God, for meeting all my offering. I thank you God for meeting all my needs. I thank you for paying all my bills. Thank you for good health. I'm worshiping you Lord with my offering. Now you're mixing faith into your gift. It's not a donation. It's an offering. Yes. It's gotta be an offering. So, with thy substance. That says you are dedicating your material resources to God's service and purposes.
Starting point is 00:25:11 Yes. Substance refers to all possessions. Everything. Everything. It says everything I have, every physical thing I have belongs to God. If he needs it for his kingdom, it's his for the asking. I don't have to have a conversation with him about it. That you understand that you are a steward,
Starting point is 00:25:42 you're not a possessor, you're a steward, you're a trustee, you're holding something on behalf of somebody else. That's the attitude we have to have as believers. And then the third part is, and with the first fruits of all thine increase. of all thine increase." So this says the first fruit means giving the best and the first portion. That when you have increase, you immediately take the cream of a crop you take the top the best from the first the first gift that I mean the first flow of resources that come in. If you become if you get a job as a salesperson the first sale that make, you should worship God with the best of the best offering from the first commission you receive. If you open a store and you sell a product, you ought to give the best of the best from the first product you sell
Starting point is 00:27:10 Okay, I see it's every day get into it every day You got it. You need to make a new sale today. You open up a store. You got to make a new sale today Lord the first customer that comes in here. I'm going to give you a first fruit offering. You know what's going to happen? You're going to have customers all day long. You own a restaurant. Who's the first person in the door to buy a meal? Give from off the top.
Starting point is 00:27:41 The profit that you made from selling that meal. Give the Lord the best of you. If you're a gardener, if you're a farmer, if you're a rancher, give off the top from the first blessing that you receive. The first fruits is this calls for giving God precedent. You come first. Right, giving Him a priority in your giving. Yes. Not at the end of the day. Oh yeah, I got to write a check to God. Well that's going to impress him. But once again, in approaching that, it can't be in the sense, I'm giving this first fruit in order to get something back from God. You're giving thanksgiving for what he gave you. That's right.
Starting point is 00:28:37 You're worshipping the Lord with your substance, with the first fruits of your increase. There's a teaching that is in a lot of, you know, charismatic churches and stuff called the first fruits offering. So what's what's taught here is the very first paycheck you get at the beginning of the year, you're supposed to give that. That's that first fruits offering and you won't get a blessing for the year unless you give that firstfruits offering. And generally, I know I'm sounding mean here, generally that firstfruits offering goes to the pastor. Okay? But that's not what first Christ is our first fruit. He's the first fruit of the resurrection. God gave of His best, not so He could get a blessing, but because He loved us. And we should give our best because we love Him.
Starting point is 00:29:40 That's right. Again, attitude, the attitude in your giving. If you wait until the end of the year for your CPA to say, Hey, I could lower your taxes if you would give some money to some charitable organization. You think that impresses God? No. No, you didn't, you didn't worship Him with that gift. You did it to lower your taxes. Right. You were, it was a transaction for you once again. That's right. So, you know, the Lord will give you some blessing, but you're not going to get you're not going to get you're not going to get the cream of the crop from him because you didn't give him the cream of the crop that's right so
Starting point is 00:30:33 the first fruits signifies the choices and earliest yield again if you're a farmer if you're a rancher a gardener Again, if you're a farmer, if you're a rancher, a gardener, take the first crop, take it off the top, give something to the Lord's work and watch what God does with the rest of your crop. All by an increase, with the first fruits of all your increase. Okay, so this includes every source, every source of income, of increase, you don't become fanatically religious
Starting point is 00:31:34 like the Pharisees that counted, you know, how many turnip seeds that they gave. That's not what this is talking about. It's the attitude of worship. Lord, you bless me again. You bless me again. I'm going to bless you again. And there is this breathing in and breathing out. It's this rhythm, this flow. You're in the Lord's system. You're in His model. You're in His economy. You bring an offering to Him, and then He blesses you.
Starting point is 00:32:14 Favor from heaven comes upon the works of your hands. And guess what happens? We get to verse 10. So, well, when you start with the word so, that tells you this is what's going to happen. So shall thy barns be filled with plenty and thy presses shall burst out with new wine. Your wine vats will overflow with new wine. It's a promise of abundance. Yes, God promises abundance. And you have a right to walk in it.
Starting point is 00:33:04 It's there. It's for you. So shall thy barns be filled. First of all, you got to have a barn. How's God going to fill your barn if you don't have a barn? So faith builds barns. See. Wow. Well, greed builds barns, wow. Well greed builds barns too.
Starting point is 00:33:31 Faithful people build barns and greedy people build barns. Faithful people build barns to hold the overflow coming from heaven. Greedy people build barns to keep all that they have gathered on earth. So it depends on why you're building the barn. When the flow is so overwhelming, it's like it just keeps coming. It's the widow and the oil. Bring me another pot. Yes. Go get another pot. The oil is still flowing. She had plenty. So shall thy barns be filled. Folks, it's material blessings. Yes.
Starting point is 00:34:27 They're not spiritual barns. These are real barns. When you prioritize God's kingdom through faithful giving, which are acts of worship, that leads to his faithful care of all your needs, and it will come abundantly. Barnes symbolize storage. Yes, it's okay to have multiple bank accounts.
Starting point is 00:35:04 It's okay to have multiple bank accounts. It's okay to have multiple investment accounts. It's okay to have multiple properties. Don't let anybody put guilt on you about this. It's a testimony to God's goodness. And it's your barns. That again personalizes the possession. It's yours. The blessings are yours.
Starting point is 00:35:37 These are in your barns. These are not community barns. This isn't a Jewish kibbutz. Do you know the Jewish kibbutz is they're socialistic farms. This isn't a Soviet collective farm where everybody owns the barn. No, this is your barn. Right. See, God recognizes personal property rights.
Starting point is 00:36:15 The concept of private property comes from the Lord. Amen. Your barn on your land. your barn on your land. So shall thy barns be filled with what? Plenty. With plenty. Obedience to his commandments yields not just sufficiency enough to get by. It yields overflowing abundance with plenty,
Starting point is 00:36:55 generous provision, ample resources, plenty of abundance. And there's not just abundance, but plenty of abundance. Yes. I mean, that's abundance on steroids. It's good enough to be abundantly supplied, but to have plenty of abundance. So, don't have a scarcity mindset.
Starting point is 00:37:42 It's prevalent in some religious circles that if you're a Christian, you're going to be poor, you're going to struggle, you know, especially if you're a minister of the gospel, you've got to be broke. Yes. That's a religious mindset that is contrary to the word of God. That's right. And thy presses shall burst out with new wine. Hallelujah. And who is the new wine? What is the new wine?
Starting point is 00:38:20 The new wine is the gospel. It's Jesus that provides the new wine? The new wine is the gospel. It's Jesus that provides the new wine. So it's speaking that the overflowing nature of God's blessings on you leads to an abundance that cannot be contained. Amen. Your vats are bursting. They're so full they're bursting. They're overflowing. It's pressed down, shaken together, running over. Yes. Rick, have you ever worked a wine press? No, I haven't. When I was in high school, we grew grapes. We had a wine press. And so you had to gather all, of course, all the grapes, your harvest grapes and everything into the big vat.
Starting point is 00:39:22 And you took this big giant press, it was a wooden press, and you turned it. And you just kept turning it and turning it and turning it and pressing down on it. And of course, the more you pressed on it, the more grape juice came out and everything. But every once in a while, you had to lift that press up and shake the vat and stir all the grapes up inside.
Starting point is 00:39:48 Because the press could only get so much juice out and then you had to shake it up and then press it down again and miracle of miracles, there was still more juice in there. You had to do this three or four times on every vat of grapes that you pressed. You couldn't just press it down one time. You had to do it multiple times. If you just did it once, you only got about like half of all the juice that was in the grapes. It has to be shaken together. And that's when I, when we quote this verse here, when we look at this verse, I'm thrown back to that, those times back in high school where we were shaking those fats. We wanted as much blessing juice out of those grapes as we could get.
Starting point is 00:40:29 And, you know, it was just bursting. These grapes were bursting with the blessing, the juice coming out of those grapes. That's what I'm reminded of in this particular picture. So Doc, think about it, in the natural world, you're in business and the Lord says, hey, you know, you enjoyed that first burst of profit from your business, but let's press it again. There's more profit in that business.
Starting point is 00:40:57 Let's squeeze it again. Yes. You're missing, you're missing some profit in your business. This is, I'm speaking to somebody right now God is telling you right now. You're overlooking sources of profit in your business Let him let him do multiple presses on your business Let him squeeze out all of the new wine that's in your business. Yes, I don't know who that's for that's for somebody
Starting point is 00:41:28 You're missing You're missing revenue Uh, you're You're discarding items in your business that have revenue in them That's going to make sense to somebody I don't know who it is, but somebody's getting it right now. Sometimes there's great profit in things that are thrown away. Yes. Somebody else says, hey, I can make money with that. Right. That stuff you're throwing away, I see money in it
Starting point is 00:42:09 So think about it let the Lord do a next another press this is why when you buy olive oil always buy first cold press Yes Always great great principle there Always buy the first cold press olive oil. What are you getting? The very first batch of olive oil. Right. If it doesn't say first cold press, you're getting the third, fourth or fifth pressing. The best olive oil is the first cold press. But if there's a first, there's a second, third, fourth, and fifth. And that's what this principle is teaching us, right?
Starting point is 00:42:50 That your vats will overflow with new wine. The presses are bursting. They're overflowing. Uncontainable abundance. So, it's right to prepare for God's lavish response to your faithful giving when you fear God. Right. Build a barn. Plant a vineyard. Have a press. These are things that had to happen before he could bless you. That's right. Right? How's he going to bless you with new wine if you don't have a vineyard or a press? It's okay to say to God today, Lord, I get this. I see it. I haven't been doing things right.
Starting point is 00:43:48 Starting today, I'm going to fear you. I'm going to give you offerings from the first fruits, and I am going to be generous, and I am going to be a consistent giver to ministries that share your gospel. And because of this, I believe your word and I'm going to build a barn. Amen. Hallelujah. Doesn't mean a physical barn where you put hay and cattle. It could be a bank account. It could be an investment account. It could be it could be a crypto wallet. It could be something you're building a barn. Amen. And I believe it's gonna overflow.
Starting point is 00:44:31 It's gonna overflow. It's okay to think like that. It's wise to think like that. It's biblical to think that way. It's unbiblical to think lack, scarcity, poverty. It's unbiblical to think lack, scarcity, poverty. It's unbiblical. So new wine represents fresh, joyful blessings from heaven. Obedience yields spiritual and material fruit.
Starting point is 00:45:07 Verse 11, my son despise not the chastening of the Lord, neither be weary of his correction. Oh, this is an ouch. My son, my son, my daughter, my child, I'm speaking to you as a father. Don't get angry at me when I discipline you. Yes. I discipline you because I love you.
Starting point is 00:45:42 Don't draw back from me. Don't become back from me. Don't become angry at me. Don't develop a wrong attitude when I chasten you. Chastening signifies correction. But he prunes, he chastens, he cuts back to allow new opportunities for growth, expansion, and new fruit. Don't reject God's chastening. Don't reject his correction. Receive it humbly.
Starting point is 00:46:25 Knowing that your father loves you, he's doing this because he loves you and he's got a good plan for you. And just go with it. Go with the flow. Amen. Just go with the flow. And don't don't snicker when you see your father chastening a brother or sister Don't snicker When you see a brother or sister being chased by the Lord don't snicker and don't make comments
Starting point is 00:47:01 You know doc you talked about your dad dad. That reminds me of my dad. If my dad was paddling my brother, if I was standing over in the corner giggling, guess what happened? Even though I didn't do anything wrong. Oh, you think this is funny? Next thing I know, I'm crying. So don't giggle, don't snicker. Don't make judgmental comments.
Starting point is 00:47:34 Don't gossip. Don't pass judgment when you see a brother or sister being chased by the Lord, because you're next in line. It's coming to you. It's coming to you. The Lord, it speaks of His authority to chasten us. Yes.
Starting point is 00:48:01 I'm not qualified to chasten Dock, and He's not qualified to chasten me, but the Lord is qualified to chase in both of us Yes, and often does Neither be weary Don't grow weary when you're chasing when do we grow weary when we're being disciplined Persevere, under correction, remain steadfast. Take it like a man.
Starting point is 00:48:35 All right, just, you're being chastened. Don't cry like a baby. Don't pout. Don't make threats. Don't, you know, just, hey, you deserved it. You got it. Admit that you deserved it. Right there is a great breakthrough.
Starting point is 00:49:00 Just admit, hey, Father, you're right. I deserved it. I deserve to be corrected. I deserve to be chastened. I was out of line. I was wrong. I was doing things contrary to your word. Thank you. Thank you, Father, for correcting me.
Starting point is 00:49:20 Thank him for correction. Don't be discouraged. In fact, be encouraged. The correction means God is actively involved in your life. Yes. If the creator of the universe is actively That means he is taking a personal interest in you. I mean, to have the creator get personally involved in your affairs, even when you're being corrected, it's quite an honor, isn't it? Do you ever think about it that way? You're actually honored. Hey, I'm being whipped by God. You know, God is the creator of the universe, knows my name.
Starting point is 00:50:23 He's aware of me. The creator of the universe knows my name. He's aware of me. He's involved in my life. And when this correction is over, there's a blessing coming. Right. Weary speaks of emotional fatigue, especially during trials. especially during trials. But grace sustains us through difficult seasons of God. It's not perpetual winter.
Starting point is 00:51:10 There's a season. If you're going through a season of difficulty, just know there's an ending to that season. Satan will tell you there's no ending to it. This is perpetual. You're going to live like this the rest of your life. No, you're not. There's an expiration date on that season and spring is coming. And what
Starting point is 00:51:34 does spring represent? New life, resurrection, life from deadness Trees that have no leaves suddenly are green. Bushes with no flowers suddenly are blooming. That's why Jesus was resurrected in the spring. Wasn't in the wintertime. So don't give up. Don't become discouraged. Persevere in faith. Don't become weary of his correction. When God is chastening you, when he's correcting you, when he's pruning you, don't grow weary of that process. In fact, learn to appreciate it because it means he loves you. It affirms God's personal involvement in your life and that means He loves you. Verse 12. And here you go. For whom the Lord loveth, he correcteth, even as a father, the son in whom he delighteth."
Starting point is 00:53:09 So this emphasizes God's loving discipline. And it confirms sonship. Yes. You are in the family. You are a son, a daughter, you are his. You're not the neighbor's kid down the street. You're his child. Right.
Starting point is 00:53:38 The correction is a sign of deep affection, of love for you. Do not become weary of his correction. For whom the Lord loves, he corrects even as a father, reproves a son or daughter whom he delights in." See, he delights in. But he's correcting me, but he delights in you. He delights. So whom the Lord loves assures you of your cherished status in the family of God. Amen. Hey, Father chastised me. It means He loves me. Do you ever think of it that way? I got a whipping because my Father loves me. There's a positive way to think about everything. That's right. And this isn't just an Old Testament principle. It goes in the New Testament, too. Revelation 3.19, in the letters to the churches,
Starting point is 00:54:52 Jesus said, As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten. As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten. I rebuke and chase him. Yes. Doc, in my life, I actually wish my father would have disciplined me more. It would have been a sign to me that he actually was paying attention to me. Right, and that's a trend in the world today is not to discipline your kids. You know, not to do anything to them, not even give them timeouts or anything like which I, you know, I don't like
Starting point is 00:55:36 those either. But the fact of the matter is they don't believe in discipline. That's right. You know, these modern folks eat free range beef, free range chickens and have free range kids. You know, there's no correction, there's no management of them at all. They're just let them do whatever they want to do. You know, I'll give you an example doc, something I just just came across in the past week. Okay. Doc, something I just came across in the past week. A young boy, I guess he's,
Starting point is 00:56:14 I'm gonna say 12, 13 years old, not much older than that, is now wearing painted fingernails. And where did he get the nail polish for his nails? At school. The school gave him nail polish. And the mother's reaction was, well, I don't like it, but I'm letting him make his own decisions. No, they're children. This is the mindset of today's parents. I mean, would you let him drive a car? Why?
Starting point is 00:56:58 Well, he's got to make his own decisions. Here's the keys. So you got two things, you got the school system pushing the child into being a transgender child. Right. And the mother, a single mother, unwilling to stand up against it. Why?
Starting point is 00:57:24 Because the child may get upset and the school may blacklist her as a radical person. Now, if the Lord corrects you because he loves you, he loves you because you loves you. He loves you because you are His. Right. Okay, you are in the family. And if you are in His family, He is going to take care of you.
Starting point is 00:57:55 And that means correction also. Right. Correction, He loveth. That means God's tender care. He's correcting you because he tenderly loves you, even as a father. He is our heavenly father. So this is comparing God's reproof of humans. It's comparing it to human parenting. Giving us an example, he's your father. And he has an intimate relationship with you,
Starting point is 00:58:41 but he also has a position of authority. Amen. relationship with you, but he also has a position of authority Amen The son in whom he delighteth and again, this could be the daughter the son or daughter in whom he delighteth He takes delight in his children in his children. You know, there are children all over the place. I can't take delight in them. I love to see children. But which children are the most important to you?
Starting point is 00:59:20 Your own and your grandchildren. Right. They're the ones you take delight in. Who am I going to show a photograph to? The neighbor's kids are mine. I hate using the word kid, child. The neighbor's child or my child. My grandchild or your, who am I going to be carrying photographs carrying photographs in my phone. Some child on the other side of the city or my child or my grandchild, I take delight in mine. If he takes delight in you, it's because you are his. It personalizes the correction.
Starting point is 01:00:08 He loves you. Yes. And he takes delight in you even when we are out of line. But especially when we're out of line. Try to figure that one out. When you are out of line, he still loves you. He still takes delight in you. And he just says, Hey, I'm going to bring some correction in your life.
Starting point is 01:00:39 So this doesn't happen again. Cause I love you so much. I delight in you. Let's get this out of you. Let's deal with in you. Let's get this out of you Let's deal with this issue. Let's get it out of you Because I delight in you, you know, okay and I desire to fill your barns Let's not let this little issue Be a hindrance to your barn being filled. It'll be a roadblock. It'll be a
Starting point is 01:01:15 stopper in the pipeline. Let's deal with this issue. Let's get it out of here. I'm going to correct you. I'm going to bring some some reproof to you because I love you. Okay, Doc, we're over time limit. We need to wrap it up. All right. Well, we appreciate you being here with us for Morning Manna. And really, this is a church service for faith and values fellowship each week day and we so appreciate you being here. Rick any final words before we sign off for today? No I just I just encourage you to meditate today on how much your father loves you. Amen.
Starting point is 01:03:30 your father loves you. Amen. And that even during times of correction you will draw closer to him and in that correction actually develop a more intimate relationship with him. Amen. You will be exposed to His grace at a level you've never felt it before. So just once you know how much your father loves you, it just changes the perspective on everything. Yes. He loves you. End of discussion. Yeah. And isn't it something we started off today talking about the fear of the Lord and ended with his correction. And if you didn't know the Lord, that would be condemnation. That would be punitive. But because you fear the Lord and because you love his correction, he's showing his love toward us. Amen. Yes. That's right. All right. Well, we'll be back here tomorrow morning live at 8 a.m. at the 8 o'clock hour for Morning Manna. So we invite you. We're going to pick back up on verse 13
Starting point is 01:04:31 tomorrow here in chapter 3. God bless you. We love you. God love you. And we'll see you on the next edition of Morning Manna. God bless you.
