Good morning, everybody. It's Faith Friday here at Morning Manna. Every Friday in the
year 2025, we are studying the topic of faith. We're really studying faith every day, but
we put a special focus on it on Fridays. And also on Friday, we participate in the Lord's Supper.
So we invite you to have bread and your choice of red wine
or grape juice available later today
towards the end of today's lesson.
And if you are born again and baptized,
you are absolutely welcome to participate
in Holy Communion with
not only Dockamy, but brothers and sisters all over the world who are here with us right
now at faithandvalues.com, live every Monday through Friday at 8 a.m.
Many of you listen at different times throughout the day as we stream at 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. Eastern.
And however you find us, or maybe you're listening to us
on video on demand at faithandvalues.com,
it doesn't matter, we're just delighted
you set aside an hour to be with us.
So what we're gonna do today is, I think for the next three weeks we're going to talk about Daniel.
Last week I talked about the faith of Mary. Now we're going to talk about the faith of Daniel.
And there are three primary examples I'm going to teach on.
And so today we're going to be in chapter one of the book of Daniel.
And I'm gonna read verses one through seven and Doc's gonna read verses eight through 21.
There's a lot of scripture.
I'm not gonna teach on every single verse,
but it's important that we read the entire chapter
to get to context of what we're talking about today,
the faith of Daniel.
Yes. Pray our dear precious father in heaven, father, we love you and we
praise you and we glorify you father.
We are gathered here from around the world, but we are in one accord and
we have assembled for the purpose of being
taught by your Holy Spirit from your Word. So we request the presence of the
Holy Spirit to take a seat at the head of the table and direct this morning
manna Bible class in the name of Jesus amen amen. Alright so doc I'll read verses one through seven in the
third year of the reign of the Hocum king of Judah came Nebuchadnezzar king of
Babylon unto Jerusalem and besieged it and the Lord gave tohokam king of Judah unto into his hand
with part of the vessels of the house of God
Which he carried into the land of Shinar
to the house of his God and he brought the vessels into the treasure house of his God and
the king spake unto
Ashpenaz the master of the eunuchs, that he should bring certain
of the children of Israel, and of the king's seed, and of the princess, children in whom
was no blemish, but well favored, and skillful in all wisdom, and cunning in knowledge,
and understanding science, and such as had ability
in them to stand in the king's palace,
and whom they might teach the learning
and the tongue of the Chaldeans.
And the king appointed them a daily provision
of the king's meat and of the wine which he drank, so nourishing them
three years that at the end thereof they might stand before the king. Now among these were the
children of Judah, Daniel, Hananiah, Mishal, and Azariah, unto whom the prince of the eunuchs gave names. For he gave unto Daniel the name of Belt-Shazar,
and to Hananiah of Shadrach, and to Meshach,
and to Azariah Abednego.
Now, Doc, if you'll read verses eight through 21.
Yes, sir.
But Daniel purposed in his heart
that he would not defile himself
with the portion of the king's meat,
nor with the wine which he drank.
Therefore he requested the prince of the eunuchs
that he might not defile himself.
Now God had brought Daniel into favor
and tender love with the prince of the eunuchs.
And the prince of the eunuchs said unto Daniel,
I fear my lord the king who hath appointed your meat and your drink, for why should he see your
faces worse liking than the children which are of your sort? Then shall you make me endanger my head
to the king. Then said Daniel to Melzar, whom the prince of the unix had said over Daniel, Hananiah, Michelle, and Azariah, prove thy servants I beseech thee ten days, and let them give us
poles to eat and water to drink. Then let our accountances be looked upon before thee,
and the accountants of the children that eat the portion of the king's meat, and as thou seest,
deal with thy servants. So he consented to them in this matter and proved
them ten days. And at the end of ten days their accountances appeared fairer and fatter in flesh
than all the children which did eat the portion of the king's meat. Thus Melzar took away the portion
of their meat and the wine that they should drink and gave them pulse.
Now as for these four children, God gave them knowledge and skill and all learning and wisdom and Daniel had understanding in all visions and dreams. Now at the end of the days that the king
had said he should bring them in, then the prince of the unix brought them in before Nebuchadnezzar
and the king communed with them
and among them all was found none like Daniel and Aniah, Meshiel and Azariah. Therefore stood they
before the king and in all matters of wisdom and understanding that the king inquired of them he
found them 10 times better than all the magicians and astrologers that were in all his realm.
than all the magicians and astrologers that were in all his realm. And Daniel continued even into the first year of King Cyrus.
God bless the reading of his word today.
Well, I've got to admit, Doc, that's the strongest biblical argument in favor of a
vegetarian diet.
No, really seriously. in favor of a vegetarian diet.
No, really seriously, look at, when you,
why aren't we all,
why aren't we all vegetarians? If that's the, if that is the result of a vegetarian diet,
maybe we should be thinking about how we're eating.
You know, we're studying wisdom,
and these Hebrew young men were granted wisdom
in response to their diet, their obedience to God.
Anyhow, that's not really the topic here today.
The topic is faith.
So do we see faith in Daniel chapter 1?
The word faith is not there, but it's on every page.
It's in every paragraph.
So let's get to context. Daniel and his Hebrew friends had been exiled to Babylon after the
Babylonian king Nebuchadnezzar attacked Jerusalem and conquered it. Right. Verse 2 says and the Lord gave Jehoiachim king of Judah into his hand
The Lord did it the Lord it was it was God's will for
The Jews to be defeated
Try preaching that today I
Know see you got a lot of people
Doing news shows and podcasts who don't know the Bible.
Like Senator Ted Cruz.
Oh, that was bad.
That was brutal watching him.
It was.
The Lord gave this.
So this is the Lord.
The Lord turned the King of Judah over to the King of Babylon.
Yes.
He said the Lord gave the King of Judah into the hand of the King of Babylon.
What does that look like today? Imagine Iranian al-Atollah Khomeini takes physical possession of Benjamin Netanyahu.
That's what that looks like today, if it happened.
That's how shocking it was. What do we know about the Judas king Jehoiakim? Why did God give him over to the
Babylonians? Well, I can give you about four big reasons. He imposed heavy taxes on the people of Judah to pay tribute, bribe money, to Egypt.
Protection money.
He's paying the king of Egypt protection money.
So he had to tax the people of Judah to pay the bribe money. It's not bribe, it's extortion.
Number two, Jehokam's reign was characterized by wickedness. Total disregard for God's law.
Jeremiah frequently condemned the king, his actions.
Living in a lavish palace that was built through forced labor.
The shedding of innocent blood.
Jehokam, defied God's Word by cutting up and burning a scroll that contained Jeremiah's prophecies.
So in other words, they had opposition to the Word of God.
And censorship.
It's in Jeremiah 36.
The geopolitical landscape shifted dramatically
during his rule.
The power of Egypt was waning, and the power of Babylon
was increasing.
and the power of Babylon was increasing.
So eventually Judah became a vassal of Babylon. Right.
And the king
paid tribute to Nebuchadnezzar but then
three years later he reneged and canceled
and refused to pay anymore.
Then there's a debate about his death.
The only thing the Bible says, 2 Kings 24-6, is that he slept with his fathers.
That's it. But Josephus says that he was not only killed, but they threw
his body over the walls of Jerusalem. As if to fulfill a prophecy by Jeremiah that he would have
the burial of a donkey. Wouldn't you hate it if a prophet said, you know what, you're going to die like a donkey.
Throw your carcass over the wall.
Right.
Yeah, you're right, Doc. That's what Josephus wrote. He was really accurate as a historian. So what's the connection between these historical facts and
David's faith,
Daniel's faith in God sustained him through difficult
and dangerous political times.
Yes.
The world where he lived was extremely turbulent
and unstable.
You really never knew who was going to be in charge, which country, which king.
There was a lot of warfare, a lot of turmoil, but Daniel's faith sustained him.
faith sustained him.
I'm not prophesying this. I'm just, I'm trying to help us personalize it.
Imagine, imagine China overtakes the United States, conquers the United States.
overtakes the United States, conquers the United States, and you were captured and taken to Beijing
and made a servant to Xi Jinping.
That's what we're talking about.
Right.
Would your faith sustain you?
Would you get through it?
What would keep you going? That's what happened to Daniel. There were many instances during which Daniel had to
decide whether to stay loyal to God or compromise with the pagans.
And Daniel's faith sustained him to make the right decisions every time.
There's also, you know, there's a close resemblance
between Daniel and Joseph.
Yes.
So you have the favor and the compassion of the Babylonians shown towards Daniel, and it's very similar to the favor and compassion shown by the Egyptians to Joseph.
Joseph was sold into slavery by his brothers.
That's a great family.
You think there was some dysfunction in that family? Hey, we're gonna take our little brother
and sell him. Then we're gonna trick our dad, put sheep's blood on a coat. Tell us how dad ate something. Ate him dad. Oh my. Don't be shocked by what you see
in today's families. It's been going on for thousands of years. Yes.
But both Daniel and Joseph found favor with their masters, and afterwards they found favor with a foreign monarch, a king, a pharaoh.
But before that, they found favor with God.
Yes.
God's favor was on them before those things happened.
It was God's grace upon Joseph and Daniel that preserved them, sustained them, elevated
them, promoted them, even in the most difficult circumstances.
So divine grace is faith's reward.
What's your reward for keeping the faith?
Divine grace.
with divine grace. I mean, that's quite a promise, a blessing.
So in chapter one of Daniel, we see that Daniel and his Jewish friends, his Hebrew friends,
were under intense pressure to conform to Babylonian pagan culture.
Eat the food and drink the booze.
When in Rome, be a Roman.
Do as the Romans. That's the mentality here. Hey, you're
not in Jerusalem anymore, you're in Babylon. You should just compromise and
go with the flow. And Daniel said, no, I'm not going to compromise. His refusal to compromise
reflects a faith that acknowledges God's authority over earthly political powers, even when you are in captivity.
Wow.
I mean, I have to ask myself, if I were a prisoner, would my faith be strong enough
to know that God's authority is over with those who have imprisoned me.
Yes.
Now I'm going to zoom in on two verses, verses eight and nine.
Verse eight.
But Daniel purposed in his heart that he would not defile himself
with the portion of the king's meat
nor with the wine which he drank.
Therefore he requested of the prince of the eunuchs
that he might not defile himself.
But Daniel purposed in his heart,
there's a resolute commitment.
He made a firm decision in his heart
that he would not waiver, he would not waver,
he would not compromise.
Trusting that his resolve would strengthen his faith.
Trusting that God would honor his decision.
That's the faith.
trusting that God would honor his decision. That's the faith.
God, I'm not going to compromise.
My faith is in you,
and I believe you will enable me to overcome the tempters.
But Daniel purpose in his heart, there's determination.
There's conviction rooted in God's truth
that enabled him to stand firm
during challenging times and in unpleasant environments.
unpleasant environments.
Purpose, the word purpose conveys deliberate intent.
He set his heart on obedience.
His faith was that God would honor him. Yes.
Faith is in these verses.
Most people will say, well, this is about obedience.
Yes.
But it was his faith that enabled him to obey.
His faith in God, in God's word.
And he just refused to budge.
That was his faith.
There was an inner resolve to be faithful to God.
Yes.
But Daniel purposed in his heart that he would not defile himself with the portion of the
king's meat nor the wine which he drank. So this this speaks of Daniel's commitment to purity,
that he was not going to compromise,
that he trusted that God's wisdom would guide him to honor God's standards.
him to honor God's standards. That he would not defile himself. A commitment to holiness. Yes. That word defile there is kind of a loaded word. We just kind of read it and just go over it, but really that word defile means, you know,
something that's been sacrificed to idols or something that's unclean. So for Daniel,
wasn't just a preference, well, I think I'll have a salad instead of steak. No, there was something
about the food that was served in the king's chambers and among the eunuchs
that caused Daniel to say, I will not defile myself with that. In other words, there was
something about it. Maybe it had been sacrificed to idols. There's nothing in the scripture that
says that, but a lot of commentators kind of draw that conclusion based on that.
Commentators kind of draw that conclusion based on that. Or maybe the meat was cooked in blood.
That's right. That's another possibility too.
Whatever it was, Daniel made a choice by faith,
by faith in the promise of God not to defile himself.
That's the key thing to get from this. There was a choice on Daniel's part,
a choice that he made, I will obey the Lord. We may not know the particulars, but we do know that
he chose to obey the Lord. So, Doc, what I'm hearing here is that Perhaps the emphasis isn't on a vegetarian diet
but
Daniel said I can't go in the kitchen and cook the meat
the Jewish way I
can't go to the butcher butcher shop in the King's Palace and
Butcher the the livestock the way it should be done. I can't do it. So
the best thing to do is just eat vegetables. Now you it's a good point
what you're making about being defiled. There was something about the meat that
was that made it impure to eat. Right. Spiritually impure. He just said, I can't do it. I'm not
going to do it. Right, because he also said, you know, they wouldn't be defiled by the
king's meat or the king's wine. And so now they drank wine. All right, so that wasn't
the issue. But it was what there was something about the King's wine
that if he drank it, that he would be defiled.
That's why a lot of commentators think maybe it had been wine
that had been offered to an idol,
maybe it had been meat that had been offered to an idol.
Whatever it was, it was enough that Daniel said,
I can't participate.
I can't do it. Fortunately, God gave him favor with the
chief of the eunuchs, which is the same God that brought them into exile is the same God that gave
him favor with the eunuchs. Who knows what was in the wine? Yeah. Something could have been added I think I've told this story maybe.
Years ago I was in Belize doing a personal pastoral house call on a sinner who needed a pastor to visit him.
This is a long story. I'm not even going to tell you how long it is.
There's so many things in that story.
But anyhow, I was in the rainforest, you know, where this guy was at.
He was an American, and he had a big property there
but I found the closest there's no city nearby at all we're talking jungle stuff okay and I found
this um I guess eco lodge they had these uh huts it was pretty cool there's nice these these huts. It was pretty cool. It was nice, these little huts that I could rent
at one of them.
The word eco in Belize Indian is charge double.
Yes, that's right. Eco means you're going to pay a lot for this. Okay, you silly American.
And then in the center of this complex, there was a giant tiki hut.
This is where you went for your meals. The tiki hut was the center of the whole resort.
You call it a resort. Okay. And, you know, there were just trails through the rainforest
to get down to the tiki hut. But that's where you went if you wanted a cooked meal.
But they had a bar there also, they had tables, and that's where the internet was at.
Like this was back in, oh, I don't know, 2010, I think. You know, getting internet
connectivity in the jungle wasn't that easy. And so that's when I used to personally build the True News website.
We had news on the website every day, or headlines.
And I did the work.
And I, well, I did the research and I had a webmaster in Europe that would post the
articles for me.
And because of the time difference, I could work up to about midnight.
And about the time I finished, he was getting up in Europe.
And he would get the website built.
And by the time Americans got up, hey, look at this, you know, Rick did great.
There's a whole new website there today.
That's how I was doing it for many years.
And so I was at the, I was in the Tiki hut at night.
It's getting close to midnight.
I'm working away trying to get all the news articles built
for true news.
And I'm about the only person there.
There were a few people there.
They were at the bar drinking and I'm just sitting only person there. There were a few people there. They were at the bar drinking.
And I'm just seated at a table.
This is outside, a tiki out above me in the rainforest.
And I'm thinking, this is so crazy.
I got satellite internet connectivity
in the Belize rainforest.
Again, it, around 2010.
Here's where I'm going with this.
The young man who was working there,
who was the son-in-law of the owners,
kept trying to get me to buy a drink.
I don't drink liquor, okay?
And there weren't that many customers there.
He was trying to put some cash
in the cash register, you know.
You know, and I kept graciously turning him down.
And I'm thinking, I gotta buy something from him,
you know, you know, and, but anyhow, he came back
and he offered me, and I don't remember the name
of this alcoholic drink he offered me. and I said, what is that?
And he told me what liquors he put in the glass, but he said,
there's something special that goes in it.
I go, well, what's that?
He said, I drop a live snake into your glass.
And I'm just sitting there, Doc,
thinking, Oh, man, this is so pagan. This is demonic. You have
people here who are drinking. Basically, what are they doing
they're drinking the spirit of a serpent that died in your liquor.
Isn't that what you're doing?
Why would you put a snake in a glass to consume the snake's spirit?
I'm telling you this story because there's a lot of weird stuff out there in the world. Yes.
And Daniel may have known what was in the wine.
And said, I'm not drinking that stuff.
I know what they put in it.
I've heard the stories.
So it's not far-fetched to me to think that something was added to the wine that made
it spiritually defiled, impure to drink.
Because as Doc said, people drink wine, so what's the big deal here?
There's no indication that Daniel, when he was living in Judah was a vegetarian, but he consumed meat according to the laws of Moses.
The message that we have here is his faith said to himself,
stand your ground. Do not allow the king to defile you. Humbly stand your ground and trust that God will give you favor for honoring God's ways. And then the third part of that verse is therefore,
he requested to the prince of the eunuchs
that he might not defile himself.
So he respectfully approached the authorities.
Now look at this folks,
because this goes with Proverbs. He used wisdom and discernment
and tact to phrase his request. Right. He wasn't obstinate about it. He't go, Hey, wait a minute. I'm a Southern Baptist. I ain't eating that stuff.
I'm not picking on Southern Baptist. I'm just saying, you know, he didn't, he didn't get puffed up with his religious
views and say, you know, get that junk out of my face.
No, he used wisdom.
He used mine.
He was a prisoner. He was a prisoner. But he
used the wisdom that God had given him, and he used tact. What's tact? Knowing
what to say, when to say it, how to say it.
That requires wisdom and understanding.
So his faith was working with his wisdom,
discernment, and understanding.
He requested of the prince of the eunuchs.
He requested, he didn't order, he didn't demand,
he requested, he went't order, he didn't demand, he requested.
He went to the highest eunuch, the prince, and humbly, respectfully requested that he could eat food that would not defile him.
that he could eat food that would not defile him.
Requested, that word conveys courteous speech.
His speech was graceful.
He used graceful speech to ensure that his faithfulness did not breed unnecessary offense and conflict in the King's palace.
If you are in the house or the office of a very important person and something comes up that
you're like, Oh, wow, I can't do this.
You've got to use wisdom and tact and discernment in your speech because of who owns the house
or the building or whatever place you're in.
That's right.
So, he prioritized purity.
That was his priority.
Purity in the eyes of God.
Now, I'll look at verse 9.
Now God had brought Daniel into favor and God's sovereign intervention, where our faith trusts
God's divine orchestration of events and affairs that are taking place in our life at that moment that
God was working behind the scenes to honor Daniel's faith. Now God had brought
now God gave. There's this speaks of an active role of God.
Now God gave.
Now God had brought.
So God's sovereignty rearranged circumstances.
Don't like your circumstances, gain favor in the eyes of God, he'll rearrange them.
That just spoke to somebody.
That just spoke to somebody.
You're facing some very difficult circumstances. Submit to God, put your faith in Him, and ask Him to rearrange those circumstances in
your favor.
Amen.
Just give Him a little bit of time.
Watch what happens.
Just relax.
Rest in Him and watch him rearrange things.
Even in Babylon.
Even in Babylon.
Watch him give you favor with people that are out to hurt you, do you wrong, whatever.
Why don't you just change it?
So there's God took the initiative.
Now God gave. God's acting now based on Daniel's faith, his
faith in God to act. When Daniel spoke respectfully to the eunuch, his faith was
in motion then.
I'm going to say this.
I know I could get in a lot of trouble here talking to the prince of the eunuch, but I
have my faith in God.
And God's watching and listening.
And then once Daniel had verbally expressed his request, which was bathed in faith, then God acted.
And God gave.
Now God had brought.
Had brought, gave, this is past tense.
That's right.
By faith, God had already done it before he did it. That's right. Before
Daniel made his stand, God had already given him favor. He'd already done it before.
God's always ahead of us. He's always ahead of us.
always ahead of us. So we recognize God's prior work, and then we trust his timing in The cross solved all of our problems. All you have to do is just trust God every day that the work Jesus did on the cross will
work its way through your life. So, now God had brought, now God gave Daniel into favor and tender love.
God gave, God's gift to Daniel was relational favor with the captors.
Remember he's in Babylon. He's in the King's palace. He's
doing better than the other Jews who are out there in the field working,
hoeing the plant vegetables or whatever in the sun. He's a lot better off than them.
Think about it, he's looking out the window of the palace, seeing his
Jewish brothers and sisters working in the sun as slaves.
As working in farms, working on buildings, construction, whatever.
He's inside the palace. He's a lot better off, but he's still a slave.
And now God gave Daniel favor and tender love with his captors. Our faith must trust God to influence human relationships in our favor.
Yes.
To support your faithful stand for God.
Yes.
And this is a direct application for us today.
We're living in exile in Babylon right now.
One day, we're going to be resurrected.
We're going to be out of this exile of Earth.
But we are in Babylon right now.
How should we live in Babylon?
How should we live?
That's a question of faith, isn't it?
Yes.
The King James says tender love. Other translations say compassion.
I mean, the words tender love, God gave to Daniel a spirit of tender love from the people who were holding him as a prisoner.
I mean think of a warden in a prison having tender love towards an inmate.
Only God can do something like that.
That's right.
But it was in response to Daniel's faith and obedience.
It was God that brought Daniel into that favor. It was God that
brought Daniel into that tender love. God did it, Daniel. And it was God who brought
him into captivity. That's right. That one, chew on that one all day. It was God who brought Daniel into captivity to prove his faithfulness. So favor in this verse signifies acceptance.
The prince of the eunuchs accepted Daniel, had a softened heart towards him, tender love,
compassion, empathy, showed Daniel kindness. But the prince of the eic was like, I can't help myself, I just like this young Jewish man.
I know he's a slave, but I just like him. I can't help myself, I authority to be a tyrant to him. He's a slave. But God put it
in the eunuch's heart to be compassionate, to have a tender love in his heart for Daniel.
Only God can do that. Only God can make your captor love you.
With the Prince of the Unix, this is the final part of that.
You know, the Chief of the Unix, the Prince, okay. So Daniel was the recipient, excuse me,
the eunuch was the recipient of Daniel's favor.
God can move secular leaders
to support his faithful servants.
This is a man that's in authority and God got inside that man's heart.
So whatever situation that you would never
expect it to come from. Right. I want to jump down to verse 12 verse 12 prove thy servants i bcg 10 days and let them
give us pulse to eat and water to drink where's the faith in this prove
daniel says to the prince of eunuchs, test your servants.
I beg you, 10 days, let us eat vegetables.
Paul says a word for lentils, beans and vegetables.
Primarily lentils and beans.
primarily lentils and beans. Right.
I know everybody says it's a vegetable, but it,
doctor me, from what I know, Paul says primarily lentils and beans.
Went on a bean diet.
Yeah.
Try to sell that one.
Yeah. Let us eat beans and drink water. Yeah, try to sell that one.
Let us eat beans and drink water.
Test your servants, I beg you, for ten days let us eat beans and drink water.
This is his faith. This sentence speaks of Daniel's bold and humble, bold and humble. to prove that his faith would be honored by God. See, faith is confident that God will honor it.
God will do things for you simply to honor your faith. Test your servants, I beg you.
It's respectful, he's making a respectful initiative, but it's bold. It's spoken
with respect and humility and yet it is bold. He's saying to the prince in the palace,
I beg you, test me for 10 days.
See, Daniel, in his heart, already had the victory.
Yes.
He said, in 10 days, you're going to be able to measure my faith. You're going
to see it. I see it now, but you'll see it in 10 days. You need 10 days, but I already see it.
It's done.
I already know.
See, he's speaking by faith.
He's seeing into the future.
Say, hey, in 10 days, you'll see the difference.
Just watch.
God will support my stand. I'm confident. And I only need 10 days to prove it to you.
He sets a clear time frame, 10 days.
Right.
He proposed a defined period for testing his faith.
Yes.
What can we learn from this?
Sometimes we have to say to non-believers,
hey, give me 30 days, give me six months, whatever it is.
Just give me this specific time period
and I promise you God is going
to demonstrate something to you.
That's bold.
But Daniel had that confidence in his father.
He didn't expect instant results, did he? Hey, give me a bowl of beans and come
back in an hour and look at me. You know, it's going to take 10 days. Where did he get
that time frame? Where did they come from? Did he make it up? Did God inspire him to say,
I don't know, but God honored it. He just knew he had to trust God's timing,
that God works within faithful efforts.
I don't know, maybe Daniel just pulled that number out of his head.
I don't know, I think 10 days will do it.
Yeah, and maybe it was just, you know,
it was enough of a period of time to show some results
from this diet that he was on, the bean and water diet.
And, but not long enough to endanger
the prince of the eunuch's life.
So there was wisdom in that.
That's right.
He's thinking of the prince of the eunuch.
Right.
Because the prince of the eunuch said, you know what, if you start looking bad here,
I'm going to look bad without a head.
Yes, or also the longer the test went on, the more likelihood the king found out about it.
Right. Well, how long has this test been going on? Well, 30 days, sir.
How long has this test been going on? Well, 30 days, sir.
That's a good point, Doc.
Daniel, he put a short duration on it,
also for the benefit of the eunuch.
Says, let them give us pulse to eat and water to drink.
So this is what we're seeing here, a clean, non-defiling diet. It goes back to what we talked about earlier.
Daniel was certain, hey, they can't mess up beans.
The verse 13. I could live with that motto.
Right. You can't mess up beans.
Oh my. Now I'm thinking about making a pot of.
Now me too.
Black eyed peas.
I make. Hey, I make a mean pot of black eyed peas. I'll tell you that right now. He does folks. It is good
So
Um, there's not that many people that can handle the heat and that pot of beans I make but
uh verse 13 then
Let our countenance
be looked upon before thee
and the countenance be looked upon before thee,
and the countenance of the children
that eat of the portion of the king's meat,
and as thou seest, deal with thy servants.
World English Bible.
Then let our faces be examined before you
in the faces of the youth who eat the king's delicacy,
and as you see, deal with your servants.
So then let our countenance be looked upon before thee. Daniel's faith proposed a visible test.
Your faith shouldn't be afraid of being tested.
Correct.
If faith fears testing, then what is it?
So Daniel says, not only will we go 10 days, but then we're going to have a test.
You bring me and my friends in and bring in the boys that are eating the king's stuff.
And look at our faces.
Just that's it.
Just look at our faces.
Look at our skin tone. Look at our countenance. Look at our skin tone.
Look at our countenance, look at our eyes.
See which group looks healthier.
That's really bold.
Examine our faces.
Look into our eyes, Do we look healthy?
Do doctors look into the eyes of patients to see if they're sick?
Oh, yeah.
You better believe it.
Do they look at their tongues?
Yes.
Why does the doctor tell you stick out your tongue?
To see if you're sick.
So they're examining the physical appearance.
But Daniel's faith was bold in seeking a test.
He's got a timeline. He's got a diet meal plan by faith. He's got a
timeline, 10 days, and he's got a test all by faith. He knew that God would honor him.
And again, I don't know if God inspired him to do it or if he did it on his own and God
blessed him.
God gives us much more flexibility in leeway to do things for him that he allows us to make choices and decisions and then
bless us what we decide when you're walking with him when you are in his in his ways. He'll let you say things and then just back up what you said.
Right.
This is, and the countenance of the children that either the portion of the kings meet.
So as we said, this is his faith said, I am so confident. My faith is so strong that you will see in 10 days,
you will see a difference in my face and their face. It was his faith. It was face faith.
He had faith in faces. You're going to see it. But you know that's a great point to bring up.
Does your face reflect faith? Does your face reflect faith? A lot of believers, they say,
well I'm believing the Word of God and they're're sour pusses, and they're dragging along and everything.
You're operating in faith. Does it show up on your face?
That's a good one, Doc. That's really what this is about.
Daniel said, you're going to see my faith on my face. I'm going
to wear it.
I'm going to wear it.
Okay. I can go on, but I think we've gotten most of the, pardon upon the meat out of this meatless meal. That's good. Yeah. So, let's go to the Lord's Supper.
We're over our time limit.
And we'll have a Holy Communion.
We'll have the Faith Meal.
That's right.
This is the Faith Meal.
The blood and the flesh yes it will not it will not defile you amen it will
make you you will have eternal life you know before we get into communion Greg
someone pointed out here on our live chat today that Daniel, of course, he knew the Word
of God at this point. He knew the promises of God, but he also knew that
they were going to be an ex... if he believed Jeremiah the prophet, that they
were going to be in exile for 70 years. 70 years. And they're just starting out.
So they didn't grow into this faith.
They entered into this exile in faith.
And because Daniel had 70 years of exile
to look forward to here.
So think about it, Daniel, because he
knew the Word of God, knew the prophecy, knew it was going to be 70 years.
Can you imagine sitting down with your fellow Hebrews, your fellow Jews and saying,
Hey guys, I got to tell you something.
The word of God says we're going to be here 70 years.
This is the prophecy.
We're living the prophecy.
We're not going home for 70 years.
So we have to live in faith here.
Yes, this is it.
We're going to live here the rest of our lives.
But it's in a different perspective.
They weren't thinking about how they were gonna do
a jailbreak, how they were gonna overthrow
the King of Babylon.
No, they're like, no, God put us here
because of the sins of the Jewish people
and now we're here for 70 years.
Okay, let's go to the Lord's Supper. And Judy,
Judy's asking for my black eyed pea recipe. I'll give it to you. I'll post it someday. All right.
Praise the Lord. Well, let's enter into the Lord's Supper here today. If you have bread and either red wine or grape juice,
these are the elements we're going to be praying over here in just a moment. Who may participate in the Lord's Supper?
Well, you don't have to be a member of Faith and Values Fellowship to do that,
but we do encourage you to be a member of the body of Christ. You
confess Jesus as Lord and Savior and you've been baptized according to Scripture. That's all that
we ask. If you can have that confidence and faith of saying that's been accomplished in your life,
then we welcome you to participate in the Lord's table here today. Normally what we do is we first of
all ask the Lord to search our hearts for those things where we fall short of His glory. And so
I asked Rick if he would right now to pray for us before he entered the Lord's table that we enter
with clean hands, clean hearts, clean minds as well before we approach the bread and the wine here
at the Lord's Supper. Would you pray for us Rick? Yes. I just noticed,
Gerald said, never heard Daniel taught this way before, taught as a matter of Let's see. You got it.
That's good. Father, Almighty God, Father, we come to you this day
seeking your forgiveness for our trespasses, our sins,
our failures, our shortcomings, everything
that we did or didn't do in
the past week that we should have done or not have done that was displeasing to
you Father. Cleanse us, purify us by this blood, the blood of your Son Jesus Christ,
and remember no more our sins and trespasses.
Father, we remind ourselves
that Jesus' cross made us flawless.
I can't comprehend your love, but I will receive it.
I don't know how you make us flawless
when we have so many flaws, but I receive
your love and your goodness and your mercy and grace as everyone else here receives it along with
me. Thank you, Father. We gather here at this table to partake of the flesh and the blood of your son, Jesus Christ, who was the sacrificial
lamb, who died, that our sins would be remitted, would be forgiven, remembered no more, that we would have eternal life and that
whosoever eats his flesh and drinks his blood shall be raised up on the last day.
Yes, Lord.
So Father, we partake of this communion in faith that we will be raised up on the last day.
Yes.
In Jesus name, amen.
Amen.
If you have the elements of the Lord's table,
we're gonna pray a blessing over those
and participate in this.
And join with me as we ask the Lord
to bless our meal here today.
Almighty God, in your tender mercy,
you gave your only begotten son, Jesus Christ,
to suffer death upon the cross for our redemption.
He offered himself and made once for all time
a perfect and sufficient sacrifice
for the sins of the whole world.
And he instituted this remembrance of his passion and death,
which he commanded us to continue until he comes again.
And so Father, we ask you to bless and sanctify
with your word and Holy Spirit,
these gifts
of bread and wine that we may partake of His most blessed Body and Blood.
Christ, our Passover Lamb, has been sacrificed once for all upon the cross.
Therefore, let us keep the feast.
Hallelujah.
On the night that He was betrayed, our Lord Jesus took bread, and when He had given thanks,
He broke it.
He gave it to his disciples saying, take eat this is my body which is given for you,
do this in remembrance of me.
Thank you Lord. The body of our Lord Jesus Christ which was given for you preserve your body and soul everlasting life
This is the bread of heaven take and eat in remembrance that Christ died for you
After supper Jesus took the cup and when he'd given thanks he gave it to them saying drink this all of you for this is My blood of the new covenant which shed for you and for many for the forgiveness of sins
Whenever you drink it do this in remembrance of me.
Thank you, Lord. Hallelujah. The blood of our Lord Jesus Christ which was shed for you,
preserve your body and soul everlasting life. Drink the cup of salvation and remembrance
that Christ's blood was shed for you and be thankful.
Behold the Lamb of God. Behold Him who takes away the sins of the world and blessed are those who
are invited to the marriage supper of the Lamb. This sacrament, my friends, is the gift of God
for you, the people of God. So feed on Him by faith with thanksgiving that Christ died for you.
So feed on him by faith with thanksgiving that Christ died for you. Bless God. Hallelujah. Thank you, Lord.
Remember to keep our good friend John Mark in prayer, if you don't mind, and that Lord's protection and covering be over him.
And so we need to know more and pray that the Lord provides us an update here today.
Yes. And may the Lord's blessing and protection and favor be on all of you.
Yes. As you walk in his ways, as you seek him, know that he's actively
involved. He's actively involved. He's doing things behind the scenes you don't know anything
about. Yes. And I still think there is somebody here today you needed to hear that God is going to change
the circumstances in your situation because of your faithfulness to be of being in this
class to be taught the word.
He's going to change circumstances in your life as a demonstration of His power and authority
to give you favor with people who are not nice to you.
Yes.
And one other lesson to learn from this, you might be living in Babylon, but don't let Babylon
live in you.
That's the key thing.
That's the key thing. That's the key thing.
Praise God. All right. Well, we encourage you. Have a great weekend.
Spend some time alone with the Lord today. Find time to worship the Lord,
and spend some wonderful time in His presence. Be praying for this ministry.

That's all for me. Just enjoy the weekend. Be quiet before the Lord. Let Him speak to
you and, you know, shine your light brightly. Taste salty. Love everybody.
Yes. There's somebody out there today who simply needs to be told
that God loves them. Amen. There's somebody that needs to hear that today.
So tell them. See you on Monday. God bless you.
