Good morning, everybody. Welcome to Morning Manna. It's Monday Morning Manna, top of
the week. Hope you're having a great day. Hope you had a great weekend. We are gathered
here in this virtual Bible study with brothers and sisters from around the world. We meet at faithandvalues.com every Monday through Friday at 8 a.m.
And we stream the Bible study at 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. Eastern Time.
We're still streaming at truednews.com on social media.
And also we have a new stream for Morning Manna at 10 a.m. And 3 p.m. So start
moving over to the
Morning manna stream if you're using social media as the way to access morning manna because at some point we're going to cut off the feed
to true news so
Today we begin our study of the third chapter of the book of Proverbs. We're going to look at verses one through six.
I'm going to pray and Dr. Burkhardt is going to read the word of God.
Then we're going to jump in and start doing the deep dive into these six verses in Proverbs
chapter three.
Almighty God, our dear heavenly Father, Father, we come to you with grateful thankful
hearts. Why Father? Because we're sinners and we've been forgiven and we will never
forget that you have forgiven our sins and remember them no more and have
written our names in your book of life.
Father, we praise you and thank you and glorify you.
You are the source of all good things, Father.
Father, we are gathered here from many nations to learn from your Holy Spirit the meaning
of your words as we study Proverbs chapter 3.
So we ask the Holy Spirit to take his seat at the head of the table of morning manna
and instruct us, bring forth wisdom, revelation, knowledge, understanding, make us stronger men
and women in your kingdom for the glory of your son Jesus Christ amen
amen and good morning everyone from around the world we have people
checking in from Malaysia from the Philippines just all over the world
today and we appreciate you checking in with us here live in eight o'clock hour
on the East Coast here on morning manna. We are in Proverbs chapter three. We're picking back up today in our study.
And I'll be reading the first six verses here.
If you'd like to read along with me, please do.
I'm reading from the King James, verse one.
My son, forget not my law,
but let thine heart keep my commandments.
For length of days and long life and peace
shall they add to thee. Let not mercy and truth forsake thee,
bind them about thy neck, write them upon the table of thine heart. So shall
thou find favor and good understanding in the
sight of God and man. Trust in the Lord with all thine heart,
and lean not unto thine own understanding.
In all thy ways acknowledge him and he shall direct thy paths.
God bless the reading of his word today.
Amen.
Proverbs 3 verse 1.
My son, forget not my law, but let thine heart keep my commandments.
Again, this doesn't apply to just males.
It could be my son, my daughter, my child.
Don't forget my teaching, but let your heart keep my commandments
amen
if you're new to morning manum the way that we teach
the method that i use is to break biblical verses into segments
and drill down uh deep into each segment,
extract all the nutrients that we can find,
all the gems, all the rich minerals,
and then put together the sentence.
So we have several segments in this verse, three segments.
My son,
forget not my law.
So this first segment emphasizes
the danger of forgetting God's law.
We're being told to actively remember his instructions.
Neglect will lead to pain.
That's something we should remind ourselves all the time.
Neglect will lead to loss,
to setbacks, to unpleasant experiences.
My son, forget not my law.
Once again, Solomon opens chapter 3 with
a tender appeal to students with my son,
which is saying, my child, my son or my daughter,
you're my child, you're a student,
but I consider you a child in my family.
You're a member of my family, I'm teaching you as a father.
So he's conveying God's wisdom with parental love.
Yes.
And he's urging his students to cherish his teachings.
So again, Solomon is not writing
to just his own flesh and blood son.
The term my son, it means all students, male and female. Solomon is
saying, I am talking to you as a father would talk to his son or daughter.
Right, and this isn't just Solomon's opinion either. This is God
speaking through Solomon here. This is God speaking through Solomon. Yes. Yes, this is God speaking through Solomon here. So, God is saying...
Yes.
Yes, this is God saying,
My child, forget not my law.
Because this isn't Solomon's law.
See, it doesn't say,
My son, forget not Solomon's laws.
He was a king. He had laws.
Now, this is God
speaking directly through Solomon
saying, forget not my law.
The term law means teaching, divine guidance.
It's not like a speeding law, a tax law.
This is more than civil law. It's saying,
do not forget my teaching. Do not forget my divine guidance. Prioritize my word. Make it supreme in in your life and let it be a constant guide
in your daily decisions.
The phrase highlights the importance of memory
in our faith.
Yes.
Forget not.
faith. Yes. Forget not. Forget not is a warning against spiritual amnesia. Oh, I like that phrase, spiritual amnesia. Don't we suffer from it sometimes, Doc? That's why you've
got to constantly stay in the Word,
to keep those neurons connected, keep those new channels of information
flowing in the Word of God. Remember, we're born into this world in a fallen nature.
Our minds are renewed through the Word. Right. We have a fallen mind, right? Our body has fallen, our mind has fallen,
everything about us has fallen, the fallen nature of Adam. God renews our mind with his word,
but it's our obligation to refresh our mind
by remembering his word.
The natural inclination is to forget his word
and go back to our default position, which is fallen.
We just automatically reset back to fallen.
Right, so if you do nothing, you're going backwards.
You absolutely, if you do not daily remember the word,
you will slide backwards.
And sometimes we can be going forward.
I don't know how this works doc.
I'm not a psychiatrist. Sometimes we can be
spiritually advancing on one path and regressing on another path.
We're going forward in certain areas of faith, and yet we're neglecting other areas and falling back.
Well, that's why the scripture talks about us needing the whole counsel of God, not just
a partial counsel of God, but the whole counsel of God.
And to wear the whole armor.
Yes. You only have to admit one piece of the armor for Satan to strike at you.
He's not going to fire his darts at the armor you're wearing.
He's going to fire his darts at the place you're not wearing any armor.
Because that's the part of your life that's open.
So we are being warned against spiritual amnesia, meaning we are prompted to regularly engage
with God's Word through study and prayer to keep it alive in our hearts in all areas of our life.
Again, we could be excelling in nine out of 10 areas
but that one area that we forget to renew the word
in our minds, that's the area Satan's gonna seek
to exploit.
That's not to put fear in anybody. It's just, look, this is, we're in a, we are in a real battle.
There's a real devil who hates you.
He's a real devil and he truly hates you. He just that he's a bad guy, he hates you.
He despises you.
And he's looking for a way to destroy you,
not just hurt you, but to devour you,
to eat you for lunch.
He doesn't wanna just eat your lunch, he wants you to be for lunch. He doesn't want to just eat your lunch,
he wants you to be his lunch.
That's the reason the Lord is telling us,
don't forget my teachings.
You're living in a fallen world
and there's a real devil out there.
Now the second segment of verse one is, but let thine heart keep.
Let's look at this.
My son, forget not my law.
Segment 2, but let not thine heart keep.
Modern English is, but let your heart keep So this segment of verse 1 underscores the heart as the center of spiritual life
So the heart has the heart will shape desires and motivations
On now we're getting
We're getting to the heart of it aren't we yes
No pun intended we're getting to the heart the heart the center of your being
But let thine heart keep is an instruction for sincere obedience.
It's teaching us that true adherence to God's commandments involves our mind and our heart. So it's both. The first segment
forget not my teaching. That's your mind. Your memories in your mind. But let your
heart keep. Don't let your mind forget my laws, but make sure your heart keeps them
The two parts they working together mind and heart
So the term keep implies active guardianship, protecting God's commandments with our hearts to
ensure that they are consistently guiding us, guiding our thoughts, our actions, our words.
our words.
The phrase highlights the emotional engagement in faith.
Because we have to internalize God's word with passion
and confidence that it would transform our character from within. The focus on the heart warns us against superficial obedience. In other words, you can have people who, on the surface, they
keep God's commandments in their heart. They're not.
Right. And just to be clear, it was always about the heart, wasn't it? It wasn't about
strict adherence to the law. And besides that, no one could keep the whole law anyway.
the law. And besides that, no one could keep the whole law anyway. It was always about the heart.
It puzzles me how people who supposedly have a command of scriptures miss that very simple concept that is so glaringly obvious throughout the Old Testament. Yes.
Um, you know, be careful how you criticize and condemn others when they make mistakes. You know, people are blinded to their own sin.
You know, they're,'ve got splinter inspectors. They're going around, they've got the big
old planks sticking out of their eye, and they've got a magnifying glass saying, I see
a splinter in your eye. And they're oblivious to their own sins. They'll magnify your sins.
They'll tell everybody your sin.
They'll talk about it.
They'll tell everybody about your weaknesses, your faults, and yet they're blinded to their
own weaknesses and faults. Right. This is why we have to, our heart must keep God's commandments. It's got to be in
the heart, not just the head. There are people who memorize verses. I'm not a good verse memorizer. But I work at knowing it in my heart. There are people that can
quote verses like a machine. You just push a button and out comes verses. But it's in but is it in their heart? Now what the third part,
my son forget not my law, but let thine heart keep keep what? The third segment of this verse is
my commandments. That your heart keep my commandments. Whose commandments?
God takes personal ownership of these commandments.
Correct.
They're His commandments.
There's a personal nature of God's commands.
God's, He's not saying, hey, I found this book, it's pretty good, I'll
just share it with you. You know, I found it on a library. I thought I'd, I thought
I'd post it on Facebook for you. You know, these are His commandments. Right. He owns
them. He owns them. They came from his heart. They are
expressions of his love, his holiness, his earnest desire to guide us and bless us,
to protect us, protect us from ourselves, protect us from others, protect us from the evil one.
They're not mean, spirited, authoritative rules.
God's judgment is not punitive. It's restorative.
He's always seeking to restore.
Even in his judgment, he's seeking to restore.
He gives us commandments out of his love.
And because he desires two things,
to protect us and number two two to bless us. Amen.
We're being protected from ourselves. Number one, protected from evil people and and and protected
from the evil one. This is a fallen world and as a father he's saying here are my commandments.
This is a fallen world and as a father he's saying here are my commandments keep them
Remember them you'll do well in life
Um the term commandments obviously represents a moral code
And he's saying embrace all of my code
Align your life with my standards.
My standards are righteous, they are holy.
Align your life with my standards
and things will go well with you.
When do things not go well?
When we forget his standards and we don't obey them.
Does God disown us?
No.
No.
Does he kick us out of the house?
No.
Does he set our clothes out on the sidewalk?
No.
He's a loving father.
He will sit down with you and go,
son, daughter, what went wrong?
Yes.
His purpose is correction.
It's always restorative, always restorative.
Now humans will say, now he needs to judge and he needs to, he needs punitive damages,
needs to make you hurt.
You got to go to jail.
You got to go to religious jail.
Now God's always seeking to restore it and when we fall short, when we fail, when we
stumble, when we have our worst day, He still is by our side saying, what went wrong?
Amen.
He'll seek to get you to verbalize the mistake you made.
And obviously where he's taking us is to admit,
I failed to keep your commandments.
Isn't that what he's after?
To get us to say to him, Father, I failed to keep your commandments.
And so as a loving father, what does he say?
All right, let's get this right the next time.
Get back out there on the field.
Let's make a touchdown. Get it right this time. Don't forget my
commandments. So you would go back to the beginning. Do not forget. Don't have
spiritual amnesia. Keep the commandments. We get to verse 2. Again, three Again three parts for length of days and
long life in peace
Shall they add to thee?
So let's take the
The first segment of verse 2 for length of days
This segment connects obedience to tangible blessings. Correct. In other words, there's a real-world benefit to keeping his law, keeping his commandments.
It's not just, well, it's a feel-good thing, but no, there is a very practical benefit. Right.
It starts off with length of days. What does that mean? Not just a long life, because it mentions
life here in this verse too, but length of days, a fulfilled life, a meaningful life,
meaningful life, if you will, a happy life. Yes.
So, For Length of Days says that when students trust God,
his trust is required to keep His commandments. That He will enrich your life with more time to serve Him.
Amen. How about that?
Our purpose on earth is to glorify God and to enjoy Him.
And so when we
have a lifestyle, again, you get it. God looks at our lives as a whole,
not individual moments where we fall short.
He looks at the wholeness of our life.
And he knows that you're sincerely seeking to obey him,
to serve him, to glorify him.
Yeah, he he has
You know, he's he's like the father a mother who goes to the
baseball field and takes a
Band-aids and Sav knowing hey my kids gonna fall down right
I'm gonna have I'm gonna have I'm gonna have something here to patch up the wound,
stop the bleeding, stop the infection.
He's gonna get a black eye, he's gonna fall down.
She's gonna skin her knees.
He knows this, he's a father.
Right. He's not he's a father right
He's not shocked when we fall down he's not shocked by our failures
And he's not disgusted
He's a loving father
so
the phrase length of days is a
promise of extended life on earth
for those who sincerely yearn to live right for Him. Right.
It's not just a benefit for us either. Why would God extend our lives? Why would He do it? In
order to glorify Him, to bring Him glory. It's, where's it really, we're the second
consideration in that. God's purpose for giving us length of days is so that we
have more opportunity to glorify Him. So that more humans don't know Him.
So He gets a benefit.
Go ahead, Doc.
I'm sorry, He gets a benefit as well.
Yes, because there are more humans alive
who don't know Him.
And if you are living a life
that sincerely desires to glorify Him,
it's in His best interest to keep you living a long time
in this world.
Amen.
Why?
Because you're going to glorify Him to non-believers.
Praise God.
Somebody needs to hear that today, Rick.
That the reason why you're alive right now, the reason why you exist right now, is to glorify God.
And He wants to bless you with length of days to glorify Him even more.
That's right. And he will use even your worst times to bring glory to himself.
Praise God, aren't you glad?
If you trust his plan, if you trust him and his plan, you can't trust his plan unless
you trust him. And once you trust him and his plan,
you can have peace even in your worst times.
Knowing that it will all work together for good.
And he will bring out of it,
somehow he brings beauty from ashes.
But he always ends up glorifying himself.
So length of days is a promise of extended life for those who obey God. That living according to his wisdom leads
to a prolonged fruitful existence on earth.
Length of days is not just quantity of days,
it also is a promise of quality of days.
Amen, that's right.
days. Amen. That's right. He doesn't desire you to be in a nursing home in a coma. Hey, you can. So what if you're 99 years old and you're in a nursing home in a coma? What kind of life is that?
He'll give you length of days with good health and a sharp mind. This verse speaks of God's sovereignty over life's duration.
Know this, the enemy cannot take you out of this world.
If you are living, if you are living in God's, in his constant care, the enemy cannot take
you out.
No, no way.
No way, no how, Rick.
That's right.
Again, it gets back to this trust.
You trust him and you trust his plan.
I wanna remain as active as I can be for his glory.
I wanna stay in the game.
Skin, knees, cut elbows, bruised arms and legs, black eyes. Hey, that's me. I'm in the game. I'm still in the game. And my father has the salve and the band-aids.
Amen.
Do you know what joy and happiness it brings to the Father when He sees us when we are
at our weakest, when we're hurting the most, when we get up and we look at him and say I'm going to continue father for you
Amen
You bring great joy to him
You bring great joy to him
Say I'm gonna keep going. Yes. I fell down. Yes. I failed. Yes. I I fell short. Yes. I made a mix
I made a mess. I'm gonna keep going for your sake. I love you. You
bring great joy to him. He's never going to disown you. He's never going to roll his eyes
and say, oh, I regret ever making you. He's never gonna do that.
No, he loves you.
He loves you. He loves you on your worst day.
He loves you on your best day.
You can't affect his love.
Now, see, you can't make him love you more
and you can't make him love you more and you can't make him love you less,
but you can make him bless you more or bless you less.
Blessings are based on obedience.
Love isn't.
God's love is constant.
God doesn't love Doc more than he loves me.
He doesn't love you more than he loves me.
He doesn't love anybody less than he loves any of us.
I don't understand how he loves
the worst sinners in this world. I don't understand that. I can't comprehend
that kind of love. I just know that his love is constant, but his blessings are not. So this is
talking about length of days. How long are you going to live? And this is telling us that the length
of your life is directly tied to your obedience in this lifetime. That's right.
So, you know, the scriptures say it's appointed under man once to die and then the judgment,
but God can change the appointment.
He's the one who makes the appointment.
That's right.
He can change the appointment.
That's a, that should be an encouragement to everyone here today on our, uh,
live Bible study today that God wants you to live a long life.
He designed.
What about Hezekiah?
Yes.
King Hezekiah was sick and ready to die.
And what did God do?
He extended Hezekiah's life.
It says so.
The Bible says so.
God extended his life.
Was it 15 years?
Yes.
Gave him another 15 years.
So just as Doc said,
you can have an appointment with death, but God can change the appointment.
Amen.
Just move it up a couple decades.
Okay, I had another 10 years.
I had another 20 years of your life.
And this will motivate you to glorify Him.
But I'll tell you, and some of you will know exactly what I'm talking
about, the more earnest your heart desires to glorify God, the more Satan
will come against you to wreck your life so that you don't glorify God. That's a fact. And because Satan is the last thing he wants anybody
doing is glorifying his arch enemy. So he will come after you. When he sees that your
heart is truly set on glorifying your heavenly Father, Satan will come after you.
That's the fact of life. Just don't let him pull you down.
And it gets ugly, it gets will add for length of days.
And the second part is, and long life.
This is speaking of long life, years of life, extended years.
Doc, how would you describe the difference
between length of days and long life?
Well, I would say length of days is more of the quality
of life, of the fulfillment of life,
the meaningfulness of life.
Whereas, the long life is, you know, the years of life. of the fulfillment of life, the meaningfulness of life, whereas the long life is not just
a happier life, but actually extends your life.
In other words, you don't have to die today.
God can extend your life, and it's based upon obedience to His word, to His commandments.
This is encouraging. With physical, mental, emotional, financial health.
You need all those things to have a long life. You need resources, you need good health,
you need all those things. So what does long life entail? It entails a whole lot of things. Provision, healing,
you know, everything that's involved with that.
Amen.
It's not just, you know, extending things out, well, he's going to live another year.
Well, what good is that unless you have the resources of the divine accessible to you to live along life, to live a
length of day's life, a meaningful life. Yeah, who wants to be on a ventilator? Right. That's not,
that's not living. It's just existing. And then the third segment is, and peace shall they add to thee.
So this speaks of peace as a divine gift.
Yes.
That trusting God fosters harmony with him.
It's peace with him.
Correct. Rick, have you ever met an older person, a man or woman, who's just bitter,
just mean?
Oh yeah.
And you can tell that they're in just such pain inside because of the bitterness and meanness in their life. They have long life. But what good is it
if there's no peace, if there's no sense of quietness inside of you. There's no relationship with
God. It's just bitterness. They hate the world. They hate the people in it. They hate God for
making them live as long as they're living. But for the believer, if they're walking in the word,
if they're building upon the word,
not only does God grant a meaningful life, a long life,
but a peaceful life.
I don't wanna be 97 and bitter.
I don't wanna be 77 and bitter.
Amen. Or 67.
But I guess here because we're in Florida with so many senior citizens, you know, those
old folks.
There's so many of them here that you can't help when you go outside.
You're going to see some bitter old people.
Some mean spirited, ited bitter miserable old people and
Sad
They have no peace no joy and
They're angry at everybody and angry at themselves and they're not nice people
But God says I'll give you peace
Which is a serenity,
wholeness, wellbeing, emotional and spiritual stability
that surpasses worldly comfort.
Amen.
So we see a connection between obedience and tranquility.
So there's a connection between living a long life, living a life with quality, long years with quality, and there's also a connection to living with peace in peace.
The verse three, I gotta speed it up here.
Verse three, Proverbs 3.3.
Let not mercy and truth forsake thee,
bind them about thy neck,
write them upon the table of thine heart." All right so we're
gonna break it up in the segments. Segment one, let not mercy and truth forsake thee.
Don't let kindness and truth forsake you. So this segment is emphasizing the active choice
to retain mercy and truth, to cultivate these qualities
because they reflect God's love, mercy and truth.
they reflect God's love, mercy and truth.
Let not mercy and truth forsake thee.
It's teaching us to cling, cling to kindness and truth
to ensure that your life is aligned with God's character. This goes back to what Doc and I were just talking about
regarding miserable people.
You don't have to be old to be miserable.
Yeah, you can be young and miserable.
Met a few of those too.
In fact, Doc, most old people are just people
who've been miserable for a long time.
They were miserable in their 40s.
And they were miserable in their 50s.
By the time they're in the 70s and 80s,
they're just downright miserable.
They perfected it.
They perfected it.
They reached misery nirvana.
They perfected it. They reached misery nirvana.
So we are to cling to kindness.
People that are mean-spirited and grumpy are not kind people. You know, just you encounter these people in standing in line in stores and restaurants
or wherever.
They're mean.
They're grumpy.
There's no kindness.
But that's in church, too. There's no kindness.
But that's in church too. Yeah, unfortunately, yes.
No kindness, no mercy.
It says retain mercy and truth.
Religious people don't show mercy.
Saved people, saved sinners are merciful,
but religious people are not merciful.
Religious people will construct the gallows
and bring the rope. They want punitive retribution.
In their religion,, failure is an opportunity for mercy.
So we're being warned against abandoning these virtues, kindness and truth.
Don't forsake them.
That means it's your responsibility to cling to mercy and truth.
Each of us must actively work daily
to hold on to mercy and truth.
The mercy is for other people.
But if you show mercy to others, God shows mercy to you.
Amen. The second segment is bind them about by neck.
So now we have this imagery of binding something around your neck, tying a knot, you know, there it is.
It's wrapped around your neck and I tied it into a knot,
it's not gonna come loose.
Mercy and truth, tie it into a knot around your neck.
Right.
So tying it, binding it around your neck, that speaks of a visible commitment to mercy
and truth.
That everybody can see.
Yes, just like jewelry.
Hey, I see those pearls you're wearing.
See that diamond you got around your neck. That's how God sees
mercy and truth, like precious gems. So the neck is an expression, it means an
outward expression. Display it openly. Let people see that you're merciful.
Work at it, remind yourself to be merciful.
Write them upon the table of your heart.
Write them on the tablet of your heart.
Right. So it's not just external, but internal as well here.
Don't be ashamed of displaying mercy and truth,
but also make sure mercy and truth are written on your heart as well.
That is genuine.
Yes.
If not, you've just become a Pharisee.
And you're going around waving your pearls saying,
hey, look at me, I got mercy and truth around my heart,
around my neck, but it's not in your heart.
So write them upon the tablet of your heart
speaks of a deep internalization of these principles.
Mercy and truth.
They've got to get down deep in your heart.
They've got to saturate your thinking, your feelings.
See, why?
Because when you're squeezed,
mercy and truth need to come out first.
Not anger, not the desire for punishment. It's got to be mercy.
Verse four. I got ten minutes here to do four, five and six.
So shall thou find favor and good understanding in the sight of God and man.
So now, segment one is, so shall thou find favor.
So you will find favor. So you will find favor. So you will find favor. If you
do these things, here's the payoff. You will find favor. Favor is a gift from God. Praise God. To those who pursue mercy and truth,
to those who cultivate mercy and truth and show goodwill in their intentions with others.
There's a promise, divine approval and human approval. We'll get to that in a moment. So shall you find favor.
So shall, that's the promise.
Not a maybe, this is a guarantee.
You will find favor.
Favor from God that conveys grace
and acceptance and approval.
And good understanding, that's segment two,
and good understanding.
So good understanding promises wisdom and discernment to those who embrace mercy and truth.
Doc, you know what kind of book I want to write after this? No, I want to get rid of
that word. You know what kind of book I desire to write after this? No, I want to get rid of that word. You know what kind of book I desire to write?
This is just in my mind.
I've had this thought at different times.
I've never really focused on it.
I'm a practical person in terms of,
I've said this before about, I'm not Mr. Fix-It.
I'm not a handyman.
I can fix things, but I need instructions.
I'm not somebody that just looks at something and goes,
oh, I know how that's put together.
I'm amazed at people that can do that, okay?
Now I have to look at the instructions
and I have to follow the instructions.
I have to, okay, you start with number one.
I would like to write a book that takes every promise of God and links it to the requirement for the promise.
Like it's an instruction manual.
Right.
Because every promise has an instruction.
Yes.
I mean, what did we just read?
So shall thou, so shall you find favor.
Well, what do I have to do to find favor?
All right.
So you have a category you want to find favor.
Okay, this is what you have to do
See god there are no mysteries god puts it in a book says here it is read it I wrote this for you
Do these things this is what you get
So good understanding so you get favor but you also get good understanding. That's discernment.
Good understanding is knowing what to do with the wisdom.
Amen.
It's one thing to have wisdom, but if you don't know how to use it, how can it benefit
you? Good understanding is knowing how to apply the wisdom
that you've been given.
It's discernment, practical insight,
the ability to apply God's principles to life.
The third segment of this verse,
in the sight of God and man.
So God is the primary source of this favor.
It's in the sight of God and man.
So this emphasizes God's perspective as primary,
but it's telling us to prioritize his approval and trust that human favor will follow.
Yes.
Human favor will follow God's favor.
Does it mean every human?
No, but enough that bless you, all right?
Not every human is gonna favor you,
but God will make sure there will be enough who
do favor you to bless you.
Oh, he prepares a table for us in the presence of our enemies.
Well, somebody's setting the dishes on the table.
Your enemies are there.
They're watching you eat, but somebody's serving you.
That's the favor.
So there's dual approval, God and man.
Living by mercy and truth pleases the Creator, and then God speaks to humans to help you. When God desires to bless you, He
sends a human. When Satan seeks to destroy you, he sends a human. So what
this is saying is that when you're pleasing to God, He will personally, not only is He happy, but He will see to it
that there are humans who will show God's happiness to you.
Amen.
That's what's happening here.
He finds humans that He could work through and they bless you.
So it says in the sight,
in the sight of God and man. So there's divine and human observation.
There's also, this speaks of the interconnectedness of divine and human relationships.
Pleasing God also results in God telling humans to please you. Proverbs 3.5,
Trust in the Lord with all thy heart,
and lean not unto thine own understandings.
One of my favorite verses.
Yeah, five and six. Yes.
First segment, trust in the Lord. Put your trust in God your Father. When you put your
trust in Him, yet you have to put your trust in Him first before you can put your trust
in His plan. So the second part of this verse, lean not under thine own understanding, that's your plan.
Trust in the Lord and lean into His plan. Amen.
Boy, I've been saying that lately a lot, Doc. Lord, I'm leaning into you right now.
Into your plan, yes.
I'm leaning, I'm leaning into your plan, Lord.
More than ever, I need your plan.
So it says, when we say trust in the Lord,
it says, our heavenly father is the ultimate source
of guidance through life.
Father is the ultimate source of guidance through life. That we place our confidence in Him and we trust His plan. Regardless of what humans say about the
plan, to trust in the Lord requires complete reliance on God.
That you have faith in his sovereignty. You have faith in his love for you.
You have faith in his wisdom for you.
That he has a plan. It's a good plan. And it is to bless you.
plan. It's a good plan and it is to bless you. He has a good plan and it is to bless you.
Are all the places along the journey pleasant?
No, no they're not.
We will go through valleys of testing and trials.
We go through all kinds of things,
but he's leading us to a promised land
where we have long life and quality of days and blessings and favor. He's leading you
to a promised land. You're going to go through some valleys. The valley of the shadow of death. It's just a shadow. Praise God. Don't be afraid of shadows.
So trust means steadfast faith, reliance, that you're at peace with God. You are at peace,
that God loves you and he has nothing in his heart except good plans for you.
It takes so much pressure off of us.
It just relieves us of the burden of,
I spent so much of my life seeking his plan.
of my life seeking his plan instead of I should have just trusted in his plan. Took me so long to figure that out.
So many years seeking his plan.
And really all I had to do was like we talk about, you know, just laying back in a river
and floating.
The river is his plan.
Just lay back in and float.
So with all your heart, with all your heart, again the heart is the center of your being.
So we are to engage fully with God and make sure that our trust is not superficial, it's
not partial, but with all your heart, with all your being.
Amen.
Trust the Lord with all of your being,
with all of your heart.
Don't leave any room in your heart for doubt
or unbelief or fear.
Be wholeheartedly devoted to God
and rest in his
Assurance that he's taking care of you
But see this requires
To trust in the Lord with all your heart requires total complete surrender of your emotions your will your desires
your plans your ambitions
You have to surrender all of them.
And that's where we struggle.
You might give up 80% of them, but you're still clinging to 20%.
clinging to 20%. I mean, you might give up, you might surrender your will, your plans, your desires, but you won't surrender your emotions. See, we have to
surrender all of them. All means total commitment. No divided loyalties, you're not holding back anything.
This passionate faith in your Father.
And lean not under thine own understanding.
So this speaks of the danger of trusting your personal insight.
It's you who will get yourself in more trouble than anybody else. Amen. Don't trust your
own understanding. Trust in the Lord. Again, as a child, Jesus said, we enter into the kingdom as a child.
A child trusts his or her father. A child trusts his or her mother.
That mom and dad are going to do what's right for me.
The verse six, in all thy ways acknowledge him and he shall direct thy paths.
In all your ways acknowledge him
and he will make your path straight.
Amen.
So, segment one, in all your ways, in all your ways. This speaks of the comprehensive
scope of faith, everything, in all your ways, every aspect of your life. Trust him. Acknowledge him. See, this says to acknowledge him. When
you go to the doctor, you acknowledge God. Look, there's nothing wrong with going to
a doctor for medical care. I'm not one that tells people that you don't have faith if you go to a doctor.
Go to Dr. Jesus first.
Amen.
Go to him first.
He may heal you on the spot or he may refer you to a specialist.
But when you get to that specialist, acknowledge Dr. Jesus.
Acknowledge him in all your ways. Acknowledge his central role in your life.
That your Heavenly Father's presence permeates every decision you make, every thought you have,
that He's in all your life. Where do we get in trouble? Where do we block Him off?
Say, hey, don't come in here. Don't come in this room.
Say, hey, don't come in here. Amen.
Don't come in this room.
You can have, you can roam all of my life except this room.
That's where we get in trouble.
We have to acknowledge him in all our ways.
Acknowledge him means honoring him as the ultimate authority in every decision that we make.
Active dependence on him, reverence and trust.
And he shall direct thy paths.
He shall make your path straight.
So this is a promise of guidance He shall make your path straight.
So this is a promise of guidance telling us that when we acknowledge Him and trust Him,
God Himself ensures that our path is free from confusion of folly. He'll send the street sweeper down the road and sweep off
all the stupid stuff that we do. Praise God. A folly sweeper. That's what we need, dog.
We need a folly sweeper.
I'm going to have that image in my mind now.
A machine going down the pathway of my life, sweeping away stupidity before I get there
and become attracted to it.
Hey, there's some shiny stupidity.
Doesn't that look interesting?
There's some shiny foolishness.
Direct, it means make straight.
It conveys the image of a purposeful guidance from God that we're relying on His navigation.
He's the ultimate GPS.
Praise God. So, the focus on your paths, this makes it personal.
You're not just saying, hey, I got a path for the whole human race.
No, he's got a path for you.
Amen.
Personal path.
It's a personal path for you. And he will actively make it straight
and send the folly sweeper ahead of you.
When you acknowledge him, here's again,
one of those things, how do you get that path straight?
You acknowledge him in all your ways.
Okay, we're a few minutes over. That's it, Doc. Verse 6.
