Good morning, everybody. Welcome to Morning Manna. It is Friday and that means it's Faith
Friday. We decided in January that we would dedicate Friday throughout this year to the
study of faith. Indeed, all of the study of the Word of God is basically about faith,
but we want to focus entirely on that
topic every Friday, how can we have more faith? How can we
build our faith? What does faith do for us? What hinders faith?
These are the topics that we're talking about every Friday. And
then on Fridays, we always have the Lord's Supper. So at the
end of today's lesson, we will have Holy Communion.
We invite you to have bread.
And your choice of grape juice or red wine,
participate with us.
The only requirements that we have,
two requirements, that you're born again and you're baptized.
Yes.
Other than that, you are welcomed. And of course, that you're baptized Yes Other than that
You are welcomed and of course that you're you're not in sin. All right, but we're gonna have a prayer before
communion and that's your opportunity to repent of any sins and
Come to the table
With clean hands and clean hearts. That's what we do every Friday
So doc today's lesson will be from Matthew chapter 15 verses 21 through 28. Let's pray and invite the Holy Spirit. Then we
will listen to you read the Word of God and then you and I will begin to study these scriptures.
Almighty God, our beloved Heavenly Father, thank you for this awesome,
wonderful Friday. We bless you and praise you for life,
for eternal life, through Jesus Christ. Father, we are gathered here to study
faith, and we ask the Holy Spirit to take His seat
at the head of the table of morning manna and conduct this class and inspire us and
illuminate us, give us revelation and understanding of faith so that we would enlarge our faith in you and believe you and trust you ever more every day.
In the name of Jesus, amen. Amen. So Matthew 15, 21 through 28. Yes, sir. And welcome to
Morning Manna today, no matter where you are in the world, from our friends in Egypt and Chile and Russia to the South Korea, Japan, Philippines.
We welcome you all across the U.S. and Canada.
We invite you to join us for this Bible study today.
We had our prayer meeting last night, had a great time of prayer.
It's available on the Morning Manor Community Channel if you want to go back and watch it
and listen to it later on today. Verse 21 of chapter 15, the book of Matthew, is where
we're at today and I'll begin reading from the King James. Then Jesus went thence and departed
into the coast of Tyre and Sidon. And behold, a woman of Canaan came out of the coast and cried
unto him, saying, Have mercy on me, O Lord, thou son of David.
My daughter is grievously vexed with the devil.
But he answered her not a word, and his disciples came in beside him, saying, Send her away, for she cryeth after us.
But he answered and said, I am not sent, but unto the lost sheep of the house of Israel.
Then came she and worshiped him, saying, Lord, help me.
But he answered and said, it's not
meat to take the children's bread and to cast it to dogs.
And she said, truth, Lord, yet the dogs eat,
or the crowns would fall from the master's table.
Then Jesus answered and said under her,
a woman great as thy faith be it unto thee,
even as thou
wilt and her daughter was made whole from that very hour. I must read him his
word. Looking forward to this today. Okay. So verse 21, Jesus went out from there and withdrew into the region of Tyre and Sidon.
So, what we're seeing here is that he leaves Galilee and he moves into a Gentile region.
And this is setting the stage for this very profound encounter with this woman.
You know, we need to recognize that Jews were not supposed to be in the Gentile region.
That was off limits.
And the Gentiles there were not supposed to be
in the Jewish regions.
There was segregation, very deep segregation.
And it says Jesus went since, he went out from there.
That indicates a deliberate departure.
He had made a decision.
He's leaving Galilee and he's going into this Gentile region.
He didn't just wander off and not know where he was at. He knew where he was going.
Yes.
He went into a predominantly Gentile area. And that was a very unusual move
And that was a very unusual move for somebody, Jesus at the time was considered a Jewish teacher, a rabbi.
You know, even many of his disciples didn't realize that he was the Son of God, he was
the Messiah, but they did see him as a wise teacher. But that was very unusual for a Jewish rabbi to cross the line and go into
the Gentile regions. Right, and the fact that it's, you know, the tone here in Matthew is that he,
you know, he did this on purpose. And if we look over in Mark, over in chapter seven, where this is
the parallel, it says that Jesus got up and went away from there to the region of Tyre. And when he had entered the house, he wanted no one to know
of it. Yet he could not escape notice. And so there was intent on the Lord's part to
get away from it all, if you will. But even he couldn't get away from it all. Yes, he
couldn't help but be noticed.
Yeah, you point out there Mark seven, his desire was to remain hidden.
And yet this Gentile woman would not let him pass by
without giving her what she needed,
a miracle for her child
and and so this region is
was was
historically pagan
right and
It was associated with wealth
What it wasn't necessarily a poor place. It was, you know, look, paganism and wealth go together.
Amen, yes.
So, we get to verse 22.
Behold, a Canaanite woman came out from those borders and cried saying have mercy on me Lord
son of David
My daughter is severely
vexed with a devil. She's oppressed with a devil. She's got a demon
So we have now the story changes you have this Canaanite woman
Expressing and it says she came out right
King James says a woman of Canaan came out of the same coast
and she's crying to Jesus have mercy on me oh lord son of David
crying to Jesus, have mercy on me, oh Lord, son of David. She's identified as a woman of Canaan, a Canaanite woman, which clearly identifies her as a Gentile
with a pagan heritage.
Right. She's a woman who is an outsider. She's got an outsider status in
terms of being outside of the covenant with Israel. And she's actually a descendant of
Israel's ancient enemies. Yes. So she wasn't like a Samaritan or even one of the
outcasts among the Jews, but she was one of the enemy class to
the Jews.
The Jews would have looked upon her the way they look at
Palestinians today.
That's right. Yes.
With contempt.
As an enemy.
As an enemy, yes.
As it says, she came out of the same coast.
So she displayed initiative in seeking Jesus.
Yes. Look, he wasn't this. This isn't an encounter where he's walking.
You know, he's walking eastward on a path and she's going westward and they pass by
each other on the same path.
That's not what happened.
No.
She heard that he had crossed into her region.
She came out of the same coast. We don't know how far
and how long she walked. She just heard that that man they called Jesus is in our area
and she went looking for him. Amen. That says a lot right there. She went looking for him. That says a lot right there. She went
looking for Jesus. She had a crisis. Her child was demon possessed. She heard that
this guy Jesus cast out devils. He was doing amazing things in Galilee. The Word, obviously the Word had spread into her area. The news was getting around,
this guy named Jesus, he does miracles. He's opening up blind eyes. He's making
deaf people hear. He's making crippled people walk in and he's casting devils out of people.
crippled people walking and he's casting devils out of people. So when the Word reached her,
hey that Jesus is in our area now. Right. She said I'm going to go find him, I'm looking for him. So that's the first thing in faith. You have to go seeking Jesus. That's right.
You have to have the desire to go to Him and to put some effort into this.
Again, we don't know how far she walked.
Was it hours or days?
We don't know.
How many miles?
How many kilometers?
Did she go from town to town saying, have you heard of Jesus?
Have you seen Him?
Do you know where he's at?
We don't know.
We just know that she came out of the same coast
searching for Jesus.
When she finally found him,
her first words were have mercy on me.
She addressed him as, oh Lord, thou son of David.
And this is important, folks. Why is that, Doc? Because it
tells me that she had had some exposure to the Word of God
prior to this. Remember, she's a Gentile, she's a Canaanite, okay, but she recognized
Jesus as the Son of David, and the only way you can know that is by exposure to the Word of God.
That's the only way. Somehow or other, she had had an encounter with that message prior to that. So there's a couple of things she says here.
She says, you're the son of David,
and my daughter is vexed with the devil.
And so she knew that there was a spiritual realm
that existed beyond the natural as well.
Actually, this woman, this Canaanite woman,
probably knew more theology in that moment
in time than most Christians sitting in pews today.
She had exposure to the Word and knew about the supernatural.
And by calling him, Thou Son of David, she knew that the Jews were expecting a
descendant of David to be the Messiah.
Right. I'm telling you, she knew theology.
Yes. And in her mind, she may have been thinking, hey, this
guy could be him. He may be the son of David who is the Messiah.
She called him Lord. Yes. And she
stated the problem. She didn't... she was very direct to the point. My daughter is grievously vexed with a devil. She got right to the point. Lord,
she wasn't there saying, how's your day? Would you like a sandwich? Would you? You know,
I was wondering about your thoughts on Herod's latest edicts. She was like, I found you, I've been looking for you.
My daughter is demon possessed.
And why would she even say that
unless she had an expectation
that Jesus could provide a solution to that?
That's right, so she had heard.
There were stories floating around,
moving through the villages. This guy named
Jesus, he cast out demons. So when she heard that he was in the area, she determined she
was going to find him. And she didn't care about the inconvenience of finding him. He had the answer.
How many people don't go to the Lord
because it's inconvenient to stop everything you're doing
and pray or fast and seek him?
It's inconvenient.
But she had a crisis, a severe crisis.
And this was a state of maternal desperation.
Excuse me.
A mother who was desperate for her child to be healed.
for her child to be healed. So her approach was a breach of social norms. She violated society's rules. Jesus doesn't care about social rules.
He doesn't care.
Only people care about social rules.
She was a Gentile woman with a pagan past who addressed a Jewish rabbi surrounded by
his disciples who wanted her to go away.
And she had faith in Jesus' power over devils.
She didn't know anybody else who could cast out devils from her daughter. She's like, I've heard about this guy. Her plea in a pagan region
actually fulfilled one of Isaiah's prophecies, Isaiah 56, 6, also the sons of the stranger
that joined themselves to the Lord to serve him and to love the name of the Lord to be his servants.
Amen.
And look, this woman was actually a precursor to the church's global mission to embrace the lost all over the world.
She's there in the forefront.
Verse 23, but he, Jesus,
answered her not a word.
His disciples came and besought him, saying,
send her away, for she cries after us."
This verse obviously portrays Jesus' initial silence to this Canaanite woman's plea.
It's a desperate plea. And the disciples' impatient request to dismiss her, send
her on her way. But this is setting the stage for a lesson about persistent faith. Right. And he noticed it. Go ahead. No, no,
no, I was going to say that. Notice that the disciples were
urging to send her away for she cries after us. If you look up
in verse 22, she wasn't crying after them. She was crying
after the Lord. I know. But she was
irritating them. That's right.
Her persistence was irritating
them. And Jesus answered
not a word. Now a lot of people
have an issue with that.
But as you'll see in the story, there's a
reason for it. Yes.
He
answered her not a word.
Surprising silence.
He just stood there.
Think about this.
Here's a desperate mother pleading with him, my daughter is demon possessed, please, you
are the son of David, Lord help me, help me please.
And he just stands there looking at her.
Doesn't say a word.
What do we learn about this?
His surprising silence was a deliberate test of her faith.
Yes.
And for us, we have to trust God's timing
in answering our prayers.
That silence is not a no.
Yes, hallelujah.
What a great word Rick. Silence is not a no.
Just this week
we had an issue with a vendor. A contract is is uh has is expiring I I'm not sure if I'm going to I'm not sure do I want to stay with this for another year, we need it now,
but I don't know for an entire year.
So I contacted the company and I said,
we'd like to do six months, we need time to think about this.
Well, days went by, no response.
And Doc and I were talking about this the other day
and he said, have they responded said no no response and I said
No response means they're still thinking about it
That's a good sign
No response is a good sign
It means they've not made a decision a
Quick response a no, that's not good. No, your your request is denied.
No, a delay with no responses. Actually, I mean, the ideal response is a quick yes.
But the last thing you want is a quick no, that that, that time where you're not getting an answer at all.
That's not bad. That says, hey, you can persuade them. They're thinking about it. They're weighing
it. They're considering it. This is what Jesus is doing here with this woman. He's silent
And he's saying convince me
Persuade me convince me show me how much you desire it
What is your passion how much is how much faith do you how much do you trust me
What is your passion? How much faith do you have?
How much do you trust me?
Show me, I'm waiting.
I'm waiting, I'm going to pause and not answer
because I desire to see whether you truly have faith in me.
Do you really, truly, sincerely believe I can do this?
Is this request from your heart or is it just a whim?
You know doc look I
Dear honestly, I've there are a lot of things I say to the Lord. Hey Lord Lord. I'd love to have that and
He knows I'm not serious.
Because tomorrow I'll see something else and go,
hey, that's nice.
He knows I'm not serious.
And he doesn't grant it because it's a whim.
What about the things that you passionately desire, you passionately need, now you pursue
it.
Lord, this is high.
I have to have this.
This is necessary.
Because see now he's getting you to crystallize your thinking, focus,
zero in like a laser on a specific need.
If I give this to you, are you really gonna use it or is this gonna go in your toy box?
Part of your collection.
Oh man, I got 10 grandkids.
I stopped building toy boxes
You know, I learned I learned
Don't give them too much
It just goes in a toy box and they forget about it and
Then they play with the next toy for a little while and then they forget about that
one.
You don't give too much and this is in the Lord is the same way.
All right.
Show me you're going to use this.
Show me this.
This is really important to you.
Convince me. persuade me, sell me.
Think about the things that you are seeking from the Lord.
What type of salesmanship have you displayed to the Lord to convince him he should grant
your request?
It makes you think through what you're asking for.
Yes, amen.
Why are you asking for?
What are you going to do with it?
Why is it necessary?
And I believe this is what he's doing with this woman.
He answered her not a word. This was a deliberate test of her faith.
And again, we have to trust the Lord in the timing of when He answers our prayers. His silence was not a rejection, but it was a pause with a purpose to draw out this woman's
faith and at the same time to teach his disciples.
He was teaching her to build her faith, express her faith. He's teaching his disciples,
you guys need some compassion. Amen. She was interrupting your dinner.
Amen. She was interrupting your dinner.
I just can't get over the fact that they were under the impression that she was crying after them.
Right. Inflated self-importance. But they were were on they were probably on a schedule and they they were thinking about dinner. Oh if he stands here with her we could be
here for an hour. By the time we get to our our our destination is gonna be dark
we're gonna miss dinner. Who knows what it was. But the bottom line is they weren't interested in her. She was
she was a distraction. She was a pain. Yes. Sit her away Lord. Push her off. Tell her to get out
of her way. We got to go. So Jesus had a purpose in his paws. And it's a twofold purpose. One, to bring out this woman's faith.
He knew she had faith.
She knew it.
He knew it.
He knew she had faith.
He wanted her to bring that faith out.
But he also knew that his disciples
were not very compassionate.
They weren't very patient.
And you wanted to teach them and teach them faith too.
And what?
Anyone teach them faith as well.
Yes, he's teaching them faith also. He's always teaching faith
he's always using things.
Life's experiences to teach.
Jesus as a teacher doesn't do classrooms. The world is his classroom. Wherever you are in the field, he does, he likes to do on-site field
training. Let's get out of the classroom. Let's get outside. Let's go into the real
world and there I'll teach you. So they said the disciples had send her away. They were
irritated at her persistent cries. How many religious people send desperate people away because they're crying irritates them.
Right.
That's a lesson for all of us, you know, not to be too impatient, but take time when somebody really
has a need. But this woman, for she cryeth after us, is what they said.
Let's see two things there. She's, she, sheeth all right. She's got this relentless pursuit. She won't shut up
That's what they're saying. She won't shut up Lord
Send her away
She's irritating us. She's getting on our nerves
She's crying after and the other thing is as doc pointed out. They think they think she's crying after them
out, they think she's crying after them, because they have attached themselves to Jesus, and so they're one and the same.
But Jesus' silence revealed His disciples' callousness and unveiled the mother's deep faith.
Right.
He did it with one pause, a pause with a purpose.
He brought out the woman's deep faith and he exposed his disciples' callousness, their
lack of compassion.
And all he did was pause. He's so brilliant. But he
doesn't stay silent, does he? No. Jesus was silent in the moment, but the
desperate mother was not quiet. Yes. She persisted until she got what she needed. There's our lesson for faith.
Yes, you persist in your pursuit of God until you get what you desire. Right. And you make
sure that what you desire is what you really need. Yes, that's where I was going with it.
Something that God can, that you have the confidence that God can supply. She knew
that Jesus had the solution to her daughter. She knew it. That's why she came to him. She had faith
believing that this man, the son of David, had an answer for her situation.
the son of David had an answer for her situation and she wasn't gonna stop until she got her answer. You know Doc, one reason that we don't persist in prayer is because we really don't need what
we're asking for. You got it. It's another thing to go in the toy box.
So you really don't put a lot of effort into it.
You say a couple of prayers, Lord, I'd like to have this, please Lord.
But you really, your life doesn't depend on it.
In this case, her life depended on it.
She's got a girl who's demon possessed.
She can't live another day with this situation.
possessed. She can't live another day with this situation. And she persisted until she got what she needed, what she desired, what she asked for. See, she
needed it. She desired it. She asked for it. Words came out of her mouth. You can
deliver my daughter.
Right. Somebody had taught her a promise in the past.
And you just need one promise for your breakthrough.
You just need one promise.
Just one.
That's all you need for your breakthrough.
It's just one promise.
Knowing that the Lord can supply whatever it is that you need.
Yes. Find that word.
Find that word in the Bible and hang on to it.
Cling to it. Hold on to that promise until you get what you need. I mean, I've told this story before, back in 2020 when I had COVID, I was extremely
sick.
My breathing was becoming fainter.
I wasn't gasping.
It was just becoming fainter. I mean, I was fading away.
And the night before my son took me to the hospital,
a friend whom I have not seen physically
for probably 20 years,
we've talked to each other by phone, but I've not seen physically for at least 20 years. We've talked to each other by phone,
but I've not seen physically for at least 20 years.
And we don't talk often, I see a couple of times a year.
But he called me that night,
the night that I thought I'm probably gonna die tonight.
I knew I was desperately sick.
Susan had COVID, we were both there together.
We had just moved into the house that we're in now.
And my friend called me and he said,
"'Rick, what's wrong with you?'
And I said, "'Why are you saying that?'
He goes, "'Because the Lord's disturbing me about you.
What's wrong?'
And I told him I was sick.
And the first words out of his mouth was,
"'You will not die.'"
You will not die. He said, "'You will not die.'" You will not die. He said you will not die.
He did, I didn't say I think I'm going to die. He said Rick, you will not die.
Okay. When that call was over, and he probably said it four or five times in that call. When
that call was over, I picked up my Bible and the Lord showed me those words in his Bible.
He said, I will not die, but I will declare
the glory of the Lord.
And once I saw, I saw these words, I shall not die.
All night long, I held on to that scripture.
It was like a life preserver to me.
It was a rope tied to something, and I was in the water.
It was like, this is all I've got right now.
And in the morning, I'm going to open up my eyes.
I'm going to wake up.
I'm going to be alive. And the next morning is when my son came and saw the condition I was in and put me in his car and
drove me to the hospital. But in the hospital on to that promise, I shall not die.
Okay, I was desperate. I had a promise, good Lord showed me here, here's your life preserver, Rick.
Hang on to this one. This is for you.
What is it that you need? There's a promise in the word.
Find that promise and hold on to it
and remind the Lord every day, every hour.
This is what I'm believing you for.
Yes.
I'm believing you for this.
It's in your word.
I mean, look at this woman here, the Canaanite woman. We don't know
who shared that promise with her. We don't know who it was. It could have been in her childhood.
Right, but something stuck. A promise from God stuck with her, and she stood on that promise.
She may not have known anything else in the Torah or
anything else about all the theology of Judaism, everything. She didn't need to
know all that. All she needed was one promise for her situation. That's
what she needs. That's how powerful the Word of God is. Just one promise can transform your life completely.
Yes. So we get to verse 24, but Jesus answered and he said, I wasn't
sent to anyone but the lost sheep of the house of Israel.
So he declares to this woman,
he's saying to her,
sorry, I'm sent to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.
I'm sent to the Jews.
Did that stop her?
No?
It just set the stage for her faith to shine
When he said I am not sent but to anyone he meant I am focused on my mission
To offer the kingdom of God to Israel
And and at that time that was his primary mission.
He knew the whole time that the Jews were going to reject him.
He knew the whole time that the gospel would be offered to the Gentiles.
He knew because he's God.
He knew.
Right. It's his plan
He called them the lost sheep of Israel
He's saying The the Jews over there in that place, you know about Israel there
They are spiritually wayward. They're wandering around
They're lost I'm sent to them.
Right. Now, mind you, he's in Gentile territory right now.
Yes.
He's in Gentile territory. He's saying to this Canaanite Gentile woman,
listen, my ministry, my primary focus, my primary mission is to the lost sheep of Israel.
Which your first thought would be, well, then what are you doing over here?
He was over there for her.
Yes.
He went there deliberately for this encounter.
This is, this is important to see.
He deliberately changed his travel plans and went seeking a lost soul who needed deliverance for her daughter. And this is a promise for you folks, when you believe the promise of God, if you stand
on the promise of God, Jesus will seek you out.
Yes.
He will seek you out.
He's attracted to faith.
Faith's like a magnet.
He can't resist faith.
It's irresistible to him. Faith is irresistible. So his response to her was
not a rejection. It was the beginning of the test. The first part was the pause. That was
the first part of the test. He just stood there and looked at her and didn't say anything
Then he says
Well, I'm only sent to the lost sheep of the house of Israel which is which was true
Yes, which but is a way of saying and that's not you
There's the second part of the test.
This woman's not taking no for an answer.
He's not rejecting her request.
He's drawing out her humility and her trust and her faith.
trust and her faith. He's using her to teach us to persevere
through barriers, not to accept no from God. And he hasn't said no to her. No, he hasn't. He just hasn't said anything. Now I want to rephrase that when I say don't accept
no, no there are times where the Lord will say no that's not right for you right now and we accept
it but he hasn't said anything here to this woman. He's just silent and then he gives her this answer, well, I'm sent to the lost sheep of Israel.
So we get to verse 25, then came she and worshiped him,
saying, Lord, help me. Did she turn and walk away? Go,. I I'm sorry. Excuse me. I
I'm sorry. I didn't mean to bother you
Now she dropped her knees and worshiped him now notice she worshiped him
Listen to this folks she knew he was more than man
Jesus didn't forbid her to worship Him.
This is an implied argument for the divinity of Christ right here.
That a Canaanite woman worshiped Jesus, recognized Jesus as divine. Yes.
Because any other place in scripture,
you see the apostles or even angels,
whenever someone drops down, starts worshiping,
they say, don't do that.
But in all the instances where you see people
worshiping Jesus, Jesus never forbids them to do that.
And you know the Old Testament said,
no one deserves worship but God himself.
And so she's going even further in her faith now. Not only does she believe the promise,
but she believes the promise maker is God.
Yes, and she may have heard people discussing saying, you think he might be the Messiah that the Jews said would be born from
David's lineage and maybe at that moment she said I'm going to believe.
He might be more than the son of David he might be the son of God himself. Yes, her faith. It's one thing to say, I believe you're a miracle maker and you can
deliver my child, but to get down on your knees or on your face prostrated and to worship somebody,
this has now moved into another realm. Yes. She's saying you are a god. Yes. It said then came she, right? That means
she moved closer to Jesus. Yes. She didn't back up. She didn't back away. She didn't
turn around and go, I'm sorry I bothered you She got closer and she didn't listen to the disciples either
Precisely the religious people
See she worshiped him it meant it means she she fell down
prostrate on her face and worshiped him
Recognizing his divine authority. Yes.
So now what do you think the disciples were thinking?
They should have been worshiping him.
Yes.
Do we ever see any instances, Doc, where the disciples worship Jesus?
No.
I can't think of anything off the top of my head.
I just thought about that. Isn't that interesting? They didn't worship Him.
And yet the times, and here's something else to think about too, Rick, the times where we see
people falling down and worshiping Jesus, you know what they all had in common?
They were all Gentiles.
Yes.
They were all Gentiles.
And she cried, Lord help me.
Or they were either Gentiles or outcasts, one of the two. Yeah.
So Lord help me was a desperate cry.
It was simple and sincere.
It was a prayer expressed with raw faith.
Lord, help me.
Yes, Lord.
I'm worshiping you, Lord, help me.
She appealed to his mercy.
Verse 26, Jesus said,
but he answered and said, it is not meat to take the children's bread and cast it to the dogs. Modern English says, it isn't appropriate to take the
children's bread and throw it to the dogs. By the way, this is the scripture the Lord gave me
to confirm that I was to retire True News.
This is the scripture right here.
I was talking to him about the desire to produce content for children,
but True News was getting in the way, and this is the scripture he gave me it isn't appropriate to take the children's bread and throw it to the dogs. So now we get this provocative response
to her plea. I mean he's been silent standing there staring at her, not saying anything. She's pleading, she's down on her face, worshiping him.
And now he says, she begs for mercy.
And he goes, hey, it's really not appropriate
to take the children's bread and throw it to the dogs.
The children meaning the Jews.
And throw it to the dogs. The dog has you, the dog. I mean, this is rough.
It's rough. No pun intended. Yeah, rough, rough. So
when he says it isn't appropriate, he's talking about his priority to the Jews.
The bread, the children's bread, he's talking about the covenant blessings.
The dogs, he's talking about the Gentiles.
But look, his intention was not to insult her,
but to elicit her faith.
He phrased his words to provoke her faith,
to invite her persistence.
You've got to understand that sometimes Jesus tests us.
And we have to respond to trials and delays with trust
in His wisdom and His timing. Now I like to envision it this way. The Bible doesn't say it because this is my version. Because, you know, it's always painted, He's always painted he's always painted as well he said
something pretty gruff to her like he looked down at her and said woman I'm
not gonna take the bread from the Jews and give it to you you dog that's not
what he said that's not how I think he's I think he said it with a grin on his face and a twinkle in his eye
I think his facial expressions
Signaled to her
I'm eager to hear your reply
Yes, I
Yes. I think she looked up at him and he was grinning.
His eyes were twinkling.
As he said, it's not appropriate for me to give the children's bread to the dogs and
he's grinning.
That's the way I see it because he's a wonderful savior.
He wasn't, he wasn't gruff and mean. I think he had a grin on his face. And he's like,
I'm going to say something to you and I am eager to see how you answer me. So we should examine our responses to God's delays and to persistently approach Him boldly
and confidently and worship Him during the delays.
Are you worshiping Him during the delay? This Canaanite woman had enough sense to worship him while he was silent.
She was like, well, you might not talk, but I am.
I'm going to worship you.
You are the son of David.
You are Lord.
So while you're waiting on your answer, you should be worshiping him. And I think she's looking up. She's, remember,
she's down here. She's on her face. She's, she's worshiping him. And he's looking down at her
saying, it's not, it's not the appropriate thing to do to take the children's bread and give it to a dog
And he looks I think she looks up and and he's grinning and she realizes he's not mean
He he he desires to answer my prayer, but I've got to pass this test
I've got to say something I've got to pass this test. I've got to say something. I've got to say something that
motivates him to do what I'm asking him to do. And she said, true, Lord, yet the dogs
eat of the crumbs which fall from their master's table. Brilliant answer. Yes. He's saying a crumb from you is enough.
Yes. And just a crumb. A crumb. I just, a crumb will heal my daughter. Right. It's
as if she was saying, Lord, I don't need the whole loaf. I just need a crumb. Yeah,
I don't need the entire loaf. I'm not asking, I'm not asking you to take anything away from the children of Israel.
I'm just asking, let us receive just a morsel.
And morsel is all I need.
I don't need the whole loaf.
I just need a bite.
I just need a crumb.
Crumbs fall off the table.
And she says, I'll take a crumb, because if it's your crumb, it'll work.
A crumb, a piece of the word of God will work.
Are you folks getting it?
Do you a fragment of a promise will work.
You don't need the entire loaf. A fragment of a promise will work.
That's right.
don't need the entire loaf a fragment of a promise will work. That's right. If if you have faith in it. So she acknowledged her her position she goes yeah I'm
outside the covenant I get that but I'll take a crumb. I just think the Lord's faith I think he just
I think he got a big smile and and and
Marveled and I think he was saying to himself. I like this woman. I
Think he probably looked at his disciples, you know
Look back down to her and then looked at the disciples and without saying it, he's saying,
you guys should have her kind of faith.
That's exactly what it says to him.
I am impressed by her quick wit.
She answered my tough response
and she answered it with faith.
She has the true faith to claim even small blessings.
She has the faith to believe that just a crumb from my table
will heal her daughter.
But these crumbs,
they represent the overflow of God's mercy.
Yes.
A little mercy will go a long way.
A little grace will go a long way.
And even though the new covenant hadn't come into effect yet,
she saw the new covenant. She saw that God was giving blessings
beyond Israel.
And she was probably thinking, yeah, and again, she didn't say it, but she's got to be thinking
this. Yeah, I know you say you're sent to the house of Israel, but you're over here
on my side right now.
You're in my territory. Glory. Oh wow. There's a reason and she's
probably thinking there's a reason you're here. You know you crossed the boundary line.
Oh wow. You know you crossed into pagan gentile territory. Why are you here, Lord?
I'll tell you, again, I'm thinking,
she's thinking to herself, I know why you're here,
because you desire to do a miracle.
That's the reason you're looking for a miracle.
You're looking for an opportunity to do a miracle.
Well, here it is.
I believe you, and I'm not giving up.
Here's my daughter.
She's demon possessed. And then Jesus answered her and said, Oh woman, great is thy faith.
Be it unto thee, even as thou. He granted her request, he healed her
daughter. The physical manifestation of the healing took place within the hour. The way I read that is it's like within 60 minutes her daughter was completely
delivered. It doesn't say to me, it doesn't say at that very second. It says within the hour,
from that hour. Again, when he answers your prayer, you may not physically see it at that very second,
but within the hour, within the day, within the week, within the month.
Just believe.
Believe it was answered.
Sometimes these answers to our prayer take time to materialize.
I don't understand it.
I don't know why, it just does.
So he said, oh woman, great is thy faith.
To my knowledge, the only other time he ever commended
somebody of having great faith was
in Matthew 8 10.
And he's talking to a Roman centurion, another person outside the covenant of Israel.
Yes.
So there's two instances in the Bible where Jesus said, great is your faith, and neither
one of them were Jews And not neither one of them had instant answers to their prayers either
That's right
What do we learn here Jesus desires us to boldly express faith
That astonishes him
When's the last time you astonished Jesus? When's the last time your faith is so great that Jesus stopped? Whoa, whoa, wow! Oh man, whoa, oh look at that.
I want to astonish him.
I'm convicting myself right now.
Am I praying in ways that I'm astonishing Jesus?
I'll tell you what, Doc, when this Bible study's over, I'm going to do something.
I'm going to do some astonishing praying.
I'm going to give it my best shot today to astonish him.
What do you need?
What do you desperately need?
What do you desperately desire
that you can't live without it
and you will persistently pursue him and you
will astonish him with your faith that he can and will answer. Make that your
priority today and tomorrow and Sunday and Monday and Tuesday and just stay
with it until he says, great is thy faith.
And if there's a delay, think about it. What can I say to him that will astonish him?
I'll tell you, it's something in the Bible.
That delay may be for you to get into His Word and find the astonishing statement.
She had to believe on His Word.
At some point, her belief in His Word is what caused her to seek out the Lord in the first place.
And then when she encountered the Lord, she knew enough of the Word to understand, yes,
there is a promise to Israel.
I understand that.
I get that.
But there's a promise to Gentiles, too.
Even Gentiles can have crumbs.
That's an understanding of the Word.
You don't get that naturally.
Somehow she responded to the Word of God that had been shared with her at some point. She heard about it.
I don't know what the circumstances were, but her seeking was based upon the promise of God, of Jesus,
knowing who He is, the Son of David, the Son of God, and seeking him out and standing on the promises of God.
I just find this story fascinating. There's so much in it.
And another thing before I close here, there's a progression in the relationship and the
The relationship and the terminology each one used.
In the beginning, the woman called him the son of David, but then she progressed to calling him Lord.
In the beginning, he implied she was a dog,
but he ended by saying, oh woman,
which was a very affectionate reply.
He showed affection and compassion for her.
So there's there's progression in in the words that each spoke to each other.
Jesus doesn't call people dogs, okay? He didn't call this woman a dog. He
used a phrase that was well known in that region at the time. It's not right to feed the children's bread to dogs. That was a slogan, a slogan, you know, a saying,
a proverb. Hey, it's not right to give the children's dog, children's food to the dogs.
He used that saying. He didn't call her a dog. He just used the saying, but he knew, he was like,
I'm going to prove, I'm going to give her an opportunity to come back. I think this woman's witty. I think she's sharp. I think she's she's she's
intelligent. She's going to say something to me. He was like when she said, Yeah, well,
I'll take the crumbs. He's like, bingo, there it is. All right. I knew she'd do it
So
Answer answer the Lord with his word
Answer him with his word
He'll honor his word
He'll honor your faith he'll honor his word you put your faith in his word and in him he'll honor your faith, He'll honor His word. You put your faith in His word and in Him, He'll honor it. And He will give you what you desire. If you ask in His name.
That's it for me, Doc. Praise God. What a great lesson today. These Faith Friday lessons are so encouraging. And I, you know, I'd prepared for a different
passage on faith today and it just fits right in with what I was studying. And so it's,
you know, there's how many times I've read the story and I hadn't seen a couple of those
things in it. And it's just amazing what the Lord reveals. I pray that you were blessed by it as well today.
She sought out Jesus, but really Jesus sought her out. He went over the line. He went over the
boundary looking for her. He left Gennesaret to go to Tyre and Sidon to go back over to Galilee. He sought her out because she believed
this and he'll seek you out too if you believe if you believe he'll seek you out as well. You think
you're seeking him but really he's seeking you praise God. All right well we're getting ready to
enter into the Lord's table today, as Rick mentioned
at the beginning of our Bible study this morning. And we welcome you to participate if you're
a confessing believer in Jesus Christ, you've been baptized in water according to the scripture.
We invite you to participate in this, the Lord's Supper, the Lord's Table. And if you have either bread,
you have bread and either red wine or grape juice,
either one, whatever is your preference there.
We're gonna pray the Lord's blessing over it here
in just a moment.
Before we do, I'm gonna ask Rick if he would pray for us.
Once again, I find myself on these Faith Fridays, Lord,
just saying to the Lord, Lord, I have faith. Help my unbelief.
How many times have I fallen short? I see things in this passage today.
I said, I haven't gone far enough in my faith.
I need to go further. I need to press in.
When it seems like that first answer is silence, I need to press in further and worship the Lord."
That was her first response when she encountered silence and the initial, what appeared to be rejection, she worshiped the Lord.
And I see that as lacking in my own life at times. That when I stand on the promise,
I don't see it immediately manifest that,
well, did I do something wrong?
No, the Lord's looking for us to fall down and worship Him.
So, so much in here, Rick.
This is a great lesson today.
So.
Absolutely.
Rick, would you pray for us today,
not only that the Lord would give us clear minds
and clear hearts,
but also that He would continue to deepen our faith as we continue in
these studies of faith here on these Fridays. Uh, you know, just to go further
to go further.
All right, praise God.
Holy Father, we come to you in the name of your Son and our Savior Jesus Christ, who
died on a cross for us, and took upon Himself all of our sins, past, present, and future.
Father, we worship Him, and we thank you, we praise you, Father, that you loved us so
much that you gave your only begotten son to us
so father we come in his name and
We express father that every single person here all of us are sinners
but we are forgiven we are forgiven sinners and we are
We are in your family. So Father, we humbly we humbly express to you our remorse, our sorrow for our sins and for
failing you and falling short of what you expect from us,
please forgive us, wash away these sins and remember them no more
and teach us to be as forgiving and merciful and graceful to others as you are to us.
Father, we ask that you cleanse us as we come to the table
to receive your Son's flesh and blood. In Jesus' name, amen.
Amen, praise God.
I just have a real sense of the Holy Spirit here today.
Just-
Amen.
That the Lord is moving on people's hearts today in a unique way. People are responding by faith today to needs that they've had for years, maybe even decades
today.
And I just have a real sense that the Holy Spirit is moving today. And don't
ignore that, ladies and gentlemen. The Lord has troubled the waters, and so
that's the opportunity to cry out to him today. Any time is a good time, but there's
just a real sense of the Holy Spirit here today. We're going to pray the Lord's
blessing on the Lord's table at this time and to bless the elements of the Lord's table. So if you've got
those items here, let's pray over those and let's participate in these
remembrance of His sacrifice for us. Almighty God, in your tender mercy you
gave your only begotten Son Jesus Christ to suffer death upon the cross for our redemption.
He offered himself and made once for all time a perfect and sufficient sacrifice for the
sins of the whole world.
And he instituted this remembrance of his passion and death, which commanded us to continue
until he comes again.
And so, Father, we ask you, Father, we ask you to bless and sanctify with your word and Holy Spirit these
gifts of bread and wine that we may partake of his most blessed body and blood. Christ our
Passover lamb has been sacrificed once for all on the cross. Therefore let us keep the feast.
Hallelujah. On the night that he was betrayed our Lord Jesus took bread and when he had given thanks he broke it
He gave it to his disciples saying take eat. This is my body which is given for you do this in remembrance of me
Hallelujah
The body of our Lord Jesus Christ was given for you.
Preserve your body and soul to everlasting life.
This is the bread of heaven.
Take and eat in remembrance that Christ died for you.
After supper, Jesus took the cup and when he had given thanks, he gave it to them saying,
drink this all of you for this is my blood of the new covenant which is shed for you
and for many for the forgiveness of sins. Whenever you drink it, do this in
remembrance of me.
Praise God. Hallelujah. Glory to God. The blood of our Lord Jesus Christ which was shed
for you, preserve your body and soul to everlasting life. Drink the cup of salvation and remembrance
that Christ's blood was shed for you, and be thankful.
Behold the lamb of God, behold him who takes away
the sins of the world, and blessed are those
who are invited to the marriage supper of the lamb.
This sacrament is the gift of God for the people of God.
Feed on him by faith with thanksgiving
that Christ died for you. Glory to God.
I just feel like the Lord has dealt a work in a lot of people's lives today, Rick.
That there's going to be healings that come out of this faith study today.
That there's going to be deliverance come out of this study.
That there's going to be kids that are delivered of demons today and some of you have
kids they have demons so and they're going to be they're going to be prayers answered amen
praise god jesus is seeking out faith entire inside get get as serious about what you need as that woman was. Get serious.
Praise God. There's just something about this lesson today, Rick. It just, I mean,
it's hitting on all eight cylinders. I mean, it really, really is. God is doing
something. He's doing something today. I mean, it really is really is. God is doing something. He's doing something today.
I mean, it really is.
Praise God.
And just take this with you all day, ladies and gentlemen.
Carry it with you all throughout the day.
You're going to encounter people that have
needs in their own lives.
Man, they're going to need your faith today.
And so be that kind of person with faith
today. Be that example in their lives. Well, we continue our study in the Book
of Romans on Monday. We pick up on chapter 16, and so we're close to
finishing up the Book of Romans here. It, probably be done by Wednesday or Thursday of next week.
And so we're looking forward to where the Lord is going to take us in our next level
of study here. And so that's going to be interesting to see. But we want you to be prepared and
join us Monday morning for morning manna. So Rick, any final thoughts before we sign
off for today?
No, other than a little housekeeping, I want to remind everybody that we are doing
double streaming every day, Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. Eastern on True News and a new

There is now at the same time,

I'm encouraging you to find it because in several weeks,
we're going to disable the true newsfeed.

Yes.
Okay.
It's as newsy as I'm going to get, but there's a newsletter going out five days a week from
true news.
And if if you have not signed up for the newsletter in the past, okay, you go all the way down
to the bottom of true news and says there's a place to put in your email address for the
newsletter.
If you've done that in the past and you're not getting this newsletter, please
Email info at true news.com and say i'm not getting the the newsletter
Right, we've had a few people who are on the list and they're not getting the newsletter
Right and for a variety of reasons some it's just
Whatever it is that gets thrown into spam
folders or we found some email services are actually being blocked and we have
to go through and unblock them. So be patient with us if you're not receiving
the newsletter. As Rick said, send us an email info at trinews.com and we'll do
our best to try to rectify the situation, get you taken care of,
because we want you to get that letter in your hand.
We want you to be able to see what Rick is observing
in the world around us,
and take advantage of that information.
There are big time financial advisors and things like that,
that have daily letters that they put out,
and they charge thousands of dollars
of year, a year for their letter.
And Rick is providing this information for you
for free right now.
And so, and normally it's more got more information
than a lot of these financial letters too.
So, all right.

news without spending all of my day working on it and without spending, you know, consuming your time
looking and listening to it. You know, you can scan it, you can get an understanding what's happened
today that's important. And yesterday's newsletter was a technology newsletter.
And I'll probably do one of those per week under the name Next Tech News.
So if you're not getting it, please email us at info at truenews.com.

be blocking us.
