TRUNEWS with Rick Wiles - Morning Manna - November 3, 2025 - Proverbs 15:30-33 - The School of Wisdom: From Reproof to Repentance
Episode Date: November 3, 2025Proverbs 15:30–33 traces the final ascent of a wise heart—where joy, correction, humility, and reverence converge. The light of the eyes refreshes the heart, good news strengthens the spirit, and ...the ear that welcomes reproof dwells among the wise. To reject correction is to harm the soul, but to embrace it is to gain understanding. Ultimately, “the fear of the Lord is the instruction of wisdom, and before honor is humility.” In this Morning Manna teaching, Rick Wiles and Doc Burkhart unpack how true wisdom matures through teachability, submission, and holy reverence before God. begin our study of chapter 16. So let's pray. Doc will read our verses and we'll jump into
today's Bible study. Almighty God, Father in heaven, you are wonderful beyond our comprehension.
You're magnificent. You are beyond anything that we can comprehend. And we are in wonder of you.
Is there anything too hard for you, Father? No, not one thing. There's nothing that we will face today.
that we cannot bring to you and you solve it so father we uh we invite your holy spirit into this
study to take charge of morning manna to lead us in the study of your word grant unto us
the anointing that was upon solomon for wisdom and wealth father that we would be examples
of your promises in this age of disbelief of rebellion.
Father, raise up people who will become wealthy
to finance the gospel in the last days.
The gospel must be heard in all the world.
Then the end shall come.
And so Father, you already know,
it's gonna cost billions of dollars to reach the world.
And that means,
somebody's got to give billions of dollars and that means somebody's got to be blessed let it be let
it be this group father that is among those who are blessed in the last days father we praise you we

verses 30 through 33 so if you've got your bibles please turn there i'm going to read this passage
reading from the king james please follow along with me the light of the eyes rejoiceth the heart
and a good report maketh bones fat the ear that hearth the reproof of life abideth among the wise
he that refusest instructions despises his own soul but he that heareth reproof geteth understanding
verse 33 the fear of the lord is the instruction of wisdom and before honor is humility god bless
the reading of his word today as we finish up chapter 15 today amen doc we forgot last
friday to remind our international audience that america does the daylight savings time
transition on this weekend this past weekend
So I apologize to some of you signed in too early.
So it is currently right now 8.17 a.m. Eastern time.
The current time is 8.17 a.m. Eastern time.
So tomorrow we'll be here at 8 a.m. Eastern time.
Whatever that is, whatever that works out to be in your time zone.
So, Proverbs 1530, King James, the light of the eyes rejoiceth the heart and a good report
maketh the bones fat.
The Septuagin says, the eyes that see good things rejoice the heart and a good report
fattens the bones.
Oh, I like that, dog.
Fat bones.
I like the eyes that see good things.
You know, I see something, but a lot of people don't see good things.
The eyes that see good things rejoice the heart.
And a good report fattenes the bones.
But Pashita says the light of the eyes rejoices the heart and good news refreshes the bones.
Good news.
Give a good report.
You'll give a good report if your eyes see good things.
You know, even in things that are unfortunate, negative,
you can see something good at it.
But look for good things and give a good report.
The light of the eyes, that symbolizes our vitality,
our spiritual perception the radiance of our inward joy bright eyes indicate a living spirit dim eyes
signify sorrow or decline how often do we say she has sparkle
in her eyes right okay what is that sparkle in her eyes or i love it when his eyes just light up with
joy what is it it's the it's the god energy inside that person's soul
that makes their eyes sparkle with life but when you are depressed when you are
constantly focused on negative things the light will go out and your eyes will be dim
so the light is the illumination of divine truth revelation that turns despair into delight yes
You can turn despair into the light.
You can have a smile on your face during the most difficult times.
Spiritually, the light of the eyes represents your soul's inward vision.
It's your soul's renewed vision.
When God's favor shines.
upon your soul a cheerful countenance reflects the peace of a heart that is in communion with god that's the
only way to be joyful it's his joy the joy of the lord is my strength it's not your joy it's his joy the joy
of the Lord is my strength.
Amen.
When we have joy, we are participating in his joy.
And his joy is our strength.
And what Satan desires to do is to just drain God's joy out of our lives.
And we've all allowed him to do it from time to time.
we're just worn down by trouble and negative influences, negative people, and it can drain
the life out of you, but at some point you've got to snap out of it and say, I have to get
the joy of the Lord back in my life.
So the wise keep their eyes bright by looking to think.
things above, not being darkened by the shadows of the world.
Again, I believe it's one reason the Lord took me away from true news and just said, 26 years of it is enough.
the news is becoming so bad that you're telling the church what's going on is actually hurting them
right it's distracting them from the gospel yes it's causing them to look at other things and
so it's so easy to fall into it because you know you see the things happening the world around
you but we serve a higher power we we're citizens of another kingdom and our focus should be on
that and not you know i don't follow the news in russia if a russian headline comes up or i
don't follow the news in great britain uh why should i what you know i don't worry about
what's going on in other countries well if i'm kingdom focused what am i worried about anything
going on here that's right you need to have a
a balance you have some awareness of what's going on in the world I'm not
sure to to be ignorant of the things that's taking place in the world that's
not wise but it's also not wise to deep dive into news events and world affairs
to the point that you are obsessed with it right and that's where I think a lot of
people are today. It's been
far too much time
watching social
media videos about the news,
listening to commentaries.
Some of these podcasts are going
three and four hours.
And people are going from
one three-hour podcast to another
three-hour. And that's six hours of your day.
You're listening
to somebody gripe and complain
about world events. And is
your life any better because
no it's not any better in fact it gets worse oh my goodness it's all falling apart yes well i
knew that before i started listening it's all falling apart that's right
and it's going to fall apart until christ comes that's right so the light in our eyes
is evidence of the light in our soul.
Spiritual sight renews strength
and rejoices the inner being.
So if there's no light in a person's eyes,
that's an indication that the light is going out in their soul.
And a good report, makeeth the bones fat.
Do you have fat bones, Rick?
Lately, I've got fat everything, dog.
I'll tell you a joke.
It's from Gilligan's Island.
Skipper and Gilligan were talking.
And Gilligan made a comment about the skipper's weight.
And Skipper said, hey, don't be knocking.
me, I've got big bones. And then Gilligan says, yeah, and it's covered by big fat. So every time I
think of this, when I hear about making your bones fat, I think of that interchange there.
What does it mean to have fat bones, Rick? What does that mean? Well, let's look at the good
report first. Okay. A good report means good news, glad tidings, encouraging words, a message of
blessing and favor and a good report maketh the bones fat so in ancient hebrew culture the bones
did not necessarily mean the our skeleton it represented a person's vitality their endurance
the framework of their strength.
So what it means is good news nourishes the soul as food nourishes the body.
So a message of grace or deliverance or hope strengthens the weary.
It revives the faint-hearted.
When somebody's facing difficult situations, the last thing they need to hear is a depressing word.
They need to hear hope.
And if the children of God don't deliver words of hope, who's going to do it?
So words of hope act as medicine.
They restore health to the inner.
man.
That's what this means.
When you're speaking words of truth, words of hope,
you are giving medicine to a person who is weak, spiritually, emotionally, weak,
reviving them, bringing them back.
So God's good report, the gospel, is the ultimate fulfillment of this proverb.
you know why because it brings life to the bones that were dead in sin that's what the gospel did
for us amen we were dead in sin and the good report the gospel revived us so fear and anxiety will consume
the body and the mind spirit joy and faithful invigorate it spiritual
encouragement has physical effects you've sometimes what a person needs is just
constant words of encouragement so they get back up on their feet sometimes
people are down because all they hear is negativity right griping complaining
condemnation shame and their life is drained out of them somebody has to come
along and speak life into them to restore their energy restore their life their
vitality so yeah and uh Psalm 32 verse 3
David cried out to the Lord when I kept silence.
My bones wasted away through my groaning all day long.
Yes.
Wasted away.
Your bones wasted away.
Let's see what the commentator said.
John Gill.
The shining of the eyes denotes the joy of the soul.
The good report may be the glad tidings of
salvation which are marrow and fatness to the believer amen charles bridges the brightness of
the eye is the mirror of a happy heart the good report the word of grace is strength to the
whole man adam clark the countenance reflects the soul good tidings enlivens the spirits and refresh
the very frame of the body
you man
Albert Barnes
the verse links physical and moral
health joy quickens
the pulse of life
sorrow wasted away
we are not
good news makes men strong
it feeds faith as
bread feeds the body
the gospel is the good
report that makes the bones live
Charles
virgin. When grace shines into the eyes, the heart leaps for joy. When the gospel's good
report is heard, the bones of faith are filled with holy marrow.
Verse 31.
The ear that heareth the reproof of life abideth among the wise.
The subtoagin says, the ear that hears reproofs of life shall lodge among
the wise let's look at the first part the ear that heareth the reproof of life this this verse is
focused on the teachability of a person's soul right the ear that they have ears to hear ears
that listen right it's not just a passive receiving of information it's
You know, you're leaning in.
You're waiting for that instruction.
Yes.
See, you can hear and then you can listen.
There are two different things.
You can hear, you can hear the audible sound of somebody talking.
That doesn't mean you're listening.
Reproof of life.
The ear that heareth, the reproof of life.
that means the rebuke that leads to renewal a loving correction delivered by a loving saint
in a spirit of love not meanness not with shame not with correction or with with with condemnation
But the reproof of life, spoken in love, leads to the renewal of the person who listens.
So wisdom doesn't begin with speaking, but with listening.
The ear is the gateway to the soul.
Hearing implies humility.
a readiness to receive truth
even when it wounds your pride
okay
that's one way to know when somebody loves you
when they can privately talk to you
in love and tell you the truth you need to hear
and it doesn't destroy you it corrects you it helps you
and you know, that person loves me.
You see, condemnation
comes with shame.
Never shame a person.
Never humiliate a person.
Never embarrass and humiliate a person.
Shaming is wrong.
The wise recognize
reproof as a gift not an insult they recognize that it is the voice of god speaking a loving
message through a fellow believer and they they receive it as such so you have to discern the
difference between condemnation and correction condemnation kills it destroys the
gives life. That's why the word says there's therefore now no condemnation to them that are in Christ
Jesus. We are not condemned. The Father doesn't condemn us. Jesus doesn't condemn us. The Holy Spirit
doesn't condemn us. Does it encourage us, correct us, sometimes chastises us, yes, but never condemns us,
never shames us. We have no shame. Talk, if anybody has the right is entitled to condemn, it's God.
that's right i mean he's perfect sinless holy and we're the opposite if anybody has would be justified
in condemning us it would be the lord but he doesn't do it yeah he's the only one qualified
so so to be condemned by another sinner that is such hypocrisy i mean to be condemned by another sinner
and that's how the Lord looks at it like excuse me you're a sinner and you're condemning a
sinner you have a problem here that's why don't condemn other people so the hearing ear
okay the Jesus said do you have ears to hear okay the ear the ear that can the ear that
can hear spiritual truth is a work of grace it is God who gives us a hearing ear his grace
his spirit softens our hearts to receive divine admonition it's a work of grace
you know it's easy to listen to compliments
I mean don't we all want to be complimented sure
but it's not easy to listen to correction
and yet it's reproof not compliments
that saves our soul from ruin
amen
there's nobody who said
man I was turned away from
sin by compliments that just doesn't happen it's it's it's a word of correction abideth among the
wise okay let's go back here the ear that hears reproof of life shall lodge among the wise
okay
abideth
lodge live
okay
abide means
a place where you
throw your hat
it's
right
where's home
where's home
okay
to listen well
is to dwell well
is to dwell well
the
teachable spirit
finds
its home
among the wise
they abideth
among the wise
they lodge they live
among the wise
amen
and abideth
means more than
just lives lodging
it also
infers stability
belonging
community
so
The soul that welcomes godly correction just fits naturally among people who fear the Lord.
You're among family.
It's sad that the more you grow in Christ, sometimes the more.
separated you are from your natural family yeah that's a sad truth yeah that's that's true
and jesus told us it would happen he said some he said there are times a man's worst enemies
will be in his own house think about it your worst enemy will be living in your house
He said he didn't come to bring peace, but a sword.
And that mother would be against daughter, father against son, children against parents.
Over what?
Over Christ?
Some of you listening to me today, you are separated from your family because of your journey with Christ.
and it's extremely painful.
It's devastating.
It is heartbreaking.
It's probably the worst emotional pain you've ever felt.
But I'm telling you, God has grace for you.
Amen.
And he will give you new family members.
I'd be new parents, new children, new grandchildren, new grandchildren,
new brother, sisters. He will give you new family.
Yes.
For every family member who has rejected you, God will bring 10 more who will love you.
Amen.
Because they are in the family of Christ.
So the soul that welcomes correction fits naturally among those who fear God.
But the unteachable spirit,
exile themselves from
Wisdom's Fellowship.
Amen.
Pride isolates, humility, integrates.
Dr. Wise, man, or woman is not known
by his or her perfection,
but by his or her posture.
His humility.
Yes.
They're humble.
And so humbly listening to truth draws you into the company of truth seekers and truth lovers.
And correction creates communion.
Because we're taking care of each other.
So the reproof of life not only strengthens the individual,
But the entire body of Christ, the church, the congregation, the community, the ecclesia.
Because when we lift up another person, when we reprove them, when we help them, we're strengthening the entire body of Christ.
So, Doc, this word abideth, lodges.
It also means that a teachable heart becomes a permanent resident in the kingdom of wisdom.
Amen.
Not a visitor, not a passerby, but at home.
Right.
You're not just a guest, your family.
Right.
This is where I throw my bag.
This is where I live.
Okay.
Okay.
check the commentators Matthew Henry he that is willing to be told of his faults
is upon the way to mend them and shall dwell among the wise he shall be esteemed
one of them Adam Clark he who hears reproof lives for correction is the soul's
medicine the humble learner keeps company with the wise physician
Albert Barnes, to dwell among the wives is to share their safety, their peace, their honor.
Obedience to counsel is fellowship with the godly.
And Charles Spurgeon, he who cannot bear reproof is not a child of wisdom.
The ear that loves correction is the ear that hears the music of life.
Amen.
verse 32 king james he that refuses instruction despises his own soul but he that heareth reproof gett understanding
the subtuagin translation he that rejects instruction hates his own soul but he that hears reproof
loves his own soul
of this verse he that refuseth instruction despiseth his own soul if you hate
correction you actually hate your own soul that's powerful see the person who
rejects godly correction is not only rejecting wisdom but rejecting life itself
Amen.
Dr. Moore, I meditate on this one.
This is really a serious scripture.
Instruction means discipline, moral correction, training.
To refuse it is to despise your own soul, to treat your eternal
welfare with contempt because pride blinds a man or woman
to the mercy within the rebuke he sees the proud man or woman
where God intends healing so the false greatest folly
is self-hatred disguised as self-defense.
It's actually spiritual suicide.
You're deliberately silencing your conscience.
Again, Doc, the more I meditate on the scripture,
it's like never stood out to me in the past with this
gravity you know in the past I just thought well you know you reject correction you know
okay you're a fool you're an idiot it's bad for you bad for you but it's actually says
you're killing yourself yes you're dying you're killing your soul
little by little you're killing your soul so god's loving reproof is an act of grace rejection of it invites spiritual destruction
right so would you say that rejecting reproof is rejecting grace oh absolutely
God always, if he reproves you, he gives you the grace to fix it.
Absolutely, yes.
God doesn't slap you around and go, you loser.
You straighten up and act right.
That's not grace.
No, it's not grace.
God lovingly, yeah, God lovingly points out what we have done wrong, where we are going wrong,
and then gives us the grace.
to repair it.
Yes.
He goes, I know, you're deficient.
Here's some grace.
It'll make you, it'll get you through it.
You'll repair it.
A loving father.
So an unteachable spirit
really is the hallmark of a lost soul.
Closed ears lead to hard hearts.
it's sad when you see people around you that just are not teachable it means they have hard hearts
and their souls are lost and only the grace of god can soften their heart there's nothing
you're going to do that's going to bring them around
all you can do is pray that god's grace touches them and softens their heart
so every refusal of instruction is a rejection of god's love
God disciplines, he chastens those who he receives as sons and daughters.
So to reject his correction is to reject him and his love, his grace.
And that will get you in trouble.
But he that heareth reproof, geteth understood.
understanding. Once again, we're back to to hear means to receive it with humility and to put
it in action. To receive it with humility, to reflect upon it and then act upon it with
obedience. Right. Because it's not going to do you any good if you don't implement the
wisdom in your life. Wisdom is going to make a change. That's the result of
of wisdom. Wisdom corrects. Wisdom resets the course, if you will. Put you back on the flight
pattern. Wisdom always does that. If it's not, is it wisdom? That's right. So, Doc, you know,
there's a three-part formula. You listen with humility. You receive it with humility.
You don't put up a wall of pride and say, I don't want to hear it. You're not going to tell me anything.
I'm not listening to anything you say okay let's see as pride you listen with humility you
receive it with humility and then you reflect on it you meditate on it you
you meditate on the meaning of the of the correction and then you obey you put it into
action so humility reflection obedience those are the three
the three steps see it's not passive hearing is not passive hearing must transform the listener
if there's no transformation then it really wasn't received it has to transform us into a wiser
better person
geteth understanding
excuse me
geteth understanding
literally means
to acquire discernment
so
he who gains
moral
or they put it like this
the person who
acquires
discernment
gains moral
intelligence
and
spiritual insight
discernment is
understanding
that's really understanding
but
wisdom is
wisdom is
not a
achieved through your brilliance oh the word starts with a bee but it's not brilliant it's
brokenness yes the most effective people for god are people who have been broken and crushed
it when you meet them.
They've been broken and crushed.
Then God's able to work
through them.
He can do a limited
amount of work through them,
but when they are
completely broken and crushed,
then he has squeezed
all the pride and the self
out of them. And now they're
able to be fully used by
the Holy Spirit.
See, that correction
as a chisel. You've got to see it as a chisel. God's chisling on us to shape our character.
Imagine you're a rock. Imagine that you're a piece of granite and some guy comes along and
start knocking pieces off of you. Yeah. Well, that's what God is doing to. Yeah, it's the rock
or the piece of granite probably isn't enjoying it if it had feelings. But you do have feelings and you do
react to it and so but if we wisdom is acknowledging that you lack wisdom isn't it yes we need more
it's acknowledging that we we need more okay there's never a place where you you never arrive
in life where hey i've got all the wisdom i can handle so acquiring wisdom is a lifelong pursuit
Henry said, he that cannot bear to be told of his faults shows that he loves his sin
more than his soul.
I should just stop at that one.
Albert Barnes, the man of contrast.
The contrast is between self-love and self-destruction.
to reject correction is to hate oneself to receive it is to love one's own life
alexander mclarne reproof is god's surgery refusal of it is suicide suicide
yeah he who listens lives he who resist dies by his own hand
these old guys didn't they didn't cut you any slack doc no they didn't but you know that god had to work it
through them first oh yeah right absolutely that's what i'm saying if they've been used mightily by
god they were crushed and broken charles spurgeon to refuse instruction is to despise the very
soul, God would save.
The wise man bows before the truth and rises enriched.
All right.
Our last one, verse 33.
The fear of the Lord is the instruction of wisdom, and before honor is humility.
The Septuagin translation, the fear of the Lord is instruction and wisdom, and the beginning
of glory is humility.
right the first half the part one the fear of the lord is the instruction of wisdom
so in my viewpoint doc this last verse of chapter 15 is returning to the to the theme that
crowns the book of proverbs the fear of the lord is the instruction of wisdom the fear of the
lord is the beginning of wisdom and wisdom begins and ends with reverence for god that fear of the
Lord signifies an all-filled submission, a moral reverence, devotion, fidelity, loyalty to Almighty God.
He is so great, so magnificent, so incomprehensible that we fear him in a good way.
He's our loving father, and yet we're aware he can shut down the entire universe with one word.
So true wisdom cannot exist without this fear.
It is the moral atmosphere in which the soul learns truth.
instruction of wisdom means that wisdom's discipline springs from reverence
we're taught by the presence that we reverend
so divine fear
trains the heart to discern holiness truth
duty it's a teacher and a restraint guiding the wise and guarding them from foolishness
again this fear the fear of the lord is not terror it's tenderness it's not dread of judgment
it's delight in his holiness it's the source and the substance of wisdom it's our
heart submission to his divine authority that's really what it comes down to when you finally submit
to his divine authority and you finally say you're in control your plan is perfect your timing is
perfect and i accept it now you're on the way to wisdom
second part is
and before honor is humility
so
there's
another theme that runs through our
Proverbs is divine order
yes
exaltation
follows abasement
spiritual
honor grows
only in the soil of humility this is the divine order what did Jesus teach us about
being servants if you desire to be great you have to be leased everything is
inverted in the kingdom of God well actually it's the world that's inverted
The kingdom of God is in, is in right order.
That's right.
The world is upside down.
But humility is, it's not self-deprecation.
It's self-surrender.
Yes.
Because back to what I just said a moment ago,
where you acknowledge his ways, his timing are perfect.
And you completely submit to him.
And you finally realize your smallness in comparison to his greatness.
And it's just smart to go with his plan.
Amen.
It saves a lot of trouble.
Well, Doc, I wish I'd done this earlier in my life.
I really do.
We think that we're serving the Lord.
but really we're we're so full of ourselves it just takes a lifetime to get rid of yourself isn't
that the truth you know don't don't be discouraged if you're still struggling with self okay
you're going to be doing that until the day you die you know we need to echo the words of john
the baptist i must become less and he must become more that's right
God has never put a crown on pride.
Just remember that.
There's no crown of pride in the kingdom.
He puts crowns on the meek.
He resists the proud.
So what about this word honor?
I think it refers to divine approval.
The esteem of heaven and men and women.
The spiritual exaltation.
God honors you.
Yes.
And once again, that echoes that idea of order.
That it's prevalent all throughout Proverbs.
Really, what is honor?
Honor is order.
Honor is recognized.
that there's an authority. Honor is recognizing that there are those who have gone before us.
Honor is recognizing that we don't have all the answers and that we need to get additional
information from others. Honor acknowledges that. And honor acknowledges that there's an order to
things. So before honor is humility. In other words, you won't be honored by God until your
you're humble.
Amen.
That's what it means.
Before honor is humility.
To be honored by God, you have to first be humble.
And again, this is what we, we spend a lifetime with God and his chisel,
chisling off chunks of pride and whatever is, you know, attached to us.
He's trying to shape us into the image he desires.
Excuse me.
Bless you.
Doc, the proud rush, and I know you've seen this in life,
the proud, the proud will rush to seize honor.
yes they'll knock you over they'll step on you but the humble wait the humble wait until god lifts
that person up it might be the last 10 15 years of that person's life and guys says okay now
I'm going to lift you up right it's his plan
but the proud will they'll stampede to get honor the honor of the world look at every look at all the examples of spiritual promotion in the Bible Moses David Daniel
even Jesus Christ himself they before before promotion there was prostration
they humbled themselves they were all humbled before they were
exalted so this order cannot be reversed
this is a
a law in the universe
honor
before honor
is humility
it's a law
you're not going to change it
I mean
it's like saying you're going to have resurrection
without death
right
it's just the law
of the universe
John Gill
said the fear of the Lord
is a school
wherein the lessons of wisdom are learned
humility is the first step
on the ladder that leads to honor
Charles Bridges said
reverence is the discipline of wisdom
humility it's finishing
grace
none can walk safely or rise rightly
who have not first bowed low
before the Lord
Amen
Albert Barnes
Wisdom trains by reverence
Honor rewards by humility
The divine order of growth is
downward first then upward
So you get that
The divine order
To go up you must go down
Yes
We are not
Ride thrust men downward.
Humility lifts them upward.
He who kneels before God stands tallest among men.
And Charles Spurgeon, the fear of God is the soul's university.
Humility is its degree of honor.
The graduates' crown of wisdom.
That's a good one.
Amen.
