Good morning, everybody.
Welcome to Morning Manna.
We are delighted to have you with us.
You know, if you were a member of Faith and Values, you would hear the conversation we just had with all the classmates that gather here on real time at 8 a.m. Eastern Time at Faith and Values.
So you miss out on those topics and that conversation.
but we'd like you to join us sometime.
Faith and Values.com, 8 to 9 a.m. Eastern Time.
So we are studying the book of Proverbs.
We're in the 11th chapter, and today we're doing 7.11, verses 7 to 11.
Let's pray.
Almighty God, our dear Father in heaven.
Father, we love you, and we praise you.
Father, we give you glory and honor.
Father, we thank you.
that you're with us today, that whatever we have to face today, we can do it knowing you are
with us, that you would never abandon us.
It's your presence, Father.
It's your presence that we need.
It's your presence that we seek.
Father, we ask for the presence of the Holy Spirit in this Bible study to lead us in
understanding your word and applying it to our daily lives so that we would be better and stronger
disciples for our Lord and King Jesus Christ, your son. In the name of Jesus, we pray. Amen. Amen and
amen. God bless everyone for being here today. As you're turning to Proverbs chapter 11, we're going to
pick back up at verse 7 today. I wanted to give a praise report. One of our regular class members
who see her every day. Her name is Rachel.
She lives in Malaysia.
She's involved in jail ministry in Malaysia.
And last night, she had the opportunity, along with members of the other team that she
works with, to lead 30 inmates to Jesus last night.
Wow.
We just give a praise report out to Rachel for that.
Rachel is just an ordinary young lady, loving Jesus.
And she would say she's nothing special.
except that she's serving Jesus and so I want to give out that praise report this
morning that is awesome it just made my day yes let's remember of our class a member of our
class yes yes in Malaysia participated in leading 30 prison inmates to the Lord
last night amen that is just a great and always share those kind of testimonies with
us we do want to share that with other class members that's an encouragement to
others. We are in Proverbs
11, beginning at verse 7
today. I'm reading from the
King James, when a wicked
man dieth his expectations shall
perish, and the hope
of unjust men perish it.
The righteous is delivered out
of trouble, and the wicked cometh
in his stead. A
hypocrite with his mouth
destroyeth his neighbor,
but through knowledge shall the just
be delivered. When it
goeth well with the righteous, the city
rejoices and when the wicked perish they were shouting by the blessing of the upright the city is
exalted but it is overthrown by the mouth of the wicked god bless the reading of his word
today amen verse seven when a wicked man dieth his expectation shall perish in the hope of unjust men
perish. A world English Bible says when a wicked man dies, hope perishes. An expectation of power
comes to nothing. It gives a better understanding of that verse. So let's look at the first part
when a wicked man dieth, his expectation shall perish. So the wicked live with expectations.
all of us do we all have expectations none of us are expecting to die at least not today
so we have expectations of things that we plan to do today next month next year the next
decade we have dreams and hopes and projects and plans these are expectations
and so the wicked live with these expectations their expectations are always
He's carnal.
They're not thinking about
how to bless God, how
to expand the kingdom of God.
They're not thinking about
how to do good
things on earth.
Some of them will
finance humanitarian
projects so
that they don't look so bad.
But their
expectations revolve around
wealth, prosperity.
power
pleasure
security
but a death
when death comes
all these hopes
collapse instantly
and they are left with
nothing for eternity
yes
death
strips away every false
foundation if a person's life is built on wealth and power and honor and pleasure
and ease and convenience worldly success death strips it away see this is not saying you can't
have these things it's saying if this is all you have you're broke when you die yes because
Because a righteous person can have worldly success and prosperity and all these other things, but they have no hope in them.
They've not put their hope in it.
Their hope is in Christ.
And so when death comes to them, they don't care that these things are left behind.
Right.
They don't care.
But for the wicked, it's the only thing that they have.
Yes.
So their hope dies with them.
They were hoping, they hoped to live forever.
By the way, there was an open mic incident last week in Beijing during the SCO meeting.
And Vladimir Putin and Xi Jinping were talking about.
extending life, maybe 150 years, even
immortality.
Right. Yes.
Look, the
immortality issue was solved 2,000 years ago.
Amen.
Why are people still working on this?
It's solved.
Jesus Christ solved it.
Believe in him. You'll have
eternal life.
You don't need
billions of dollars spent on science you don't need experiments you just need faith so the wicked
have this hope this expectation they're going to avoid death they're going to avoid judgment
but then death comes to them and all their hopes die with them yes and even if they leave
behind an earthly,
an earthly
legacy.
Their soul has
no legacy.
Oh, yes.
And they're lost
because
the ultimate futility is to
build your life on sand.
The storm
of death sweeps it away.
and the hope of unjust men perish
unjust
unjust men, unjust men and women
that refers to everybody that lives in deceit,
oppression, ungodly gain,
the unjust, they're not fair,
they don't go through life,
treating people fairly,
they deceive, they cheat,
they oppress they gain material wealth by whatever means necessary but what happens
their wealth their prestige their real estate their mansions their businesses
everything dies with them yes so hopes of pleasure of
immortality through their legacy is all this is their hope is empty in the grave yes because without
Jesus Christ even the greatest human achievement and ambition perishes in eternal loss right
and your wealth will be worthless in the new Jerusalem they use gold for
asphalt in the New Jerusalem. That's right. They make doors out of giant pearls.
You know, so it's not, God's not impressed by that. That's right. Let's check and see what
Albert Barnes said. He lived between 1798 and 1870. He was pastor of the first Presbyterian
church of Philadelphia from 1830 to 1868.
Doc, I looked up that church today.
That church is so far left and woke, it's sad.
That is one of the most woke churches in America.
It wasn't when Albert Barnes was pastor.
He said, the wicked build hopes which
death destroys the righteous have hopes which death fulfills praise god what's the hope of the righteous
eternal life eternal presence with god the resurrection so death fulfills the hopes of the
righteous verse eight the righteous is delivered out of
and the wicked cometh in his stead world english bible says the righteous is delivered out of trouble
and the wicked takes his place so god preserves his people he delivers us out of our dangers
and our trials and our tribulations psalm 34 verse 19 many are the
afflictions of the righteous, but the Lord deliverth him out of them all.
How many afflictions does the Lord deliver you from?
All.
If you are in affliction right now, the Lord is going to deliver you out of it.
His deliverance comes three ways.
prevention
he keeps you from ever getting in that trouble
that's deliverance that's deliverance
right if you never fall in the hole
you've been delivered
but if you do fall in the hole he's got a plan for that too
yes it's called rescue
yeah that's why the shepherd staff is crooked
to fish stupid sheep out of trouble
right
so prevention is the first way
rescue us the second way he will bring you out of your trouble in his time that's important to
understand amen he will bring you out of your trouble but you have to understand it will happen
in his time and so you come to the place where you say father whatever i've got to go through
I can do it with your presence.
I don't desire to go through this affliction,
but I can go through it,
and it will last as long as you have sovereignly chosen
for it to last, and I will endure.
If that's the situation you're in right now,
that's the attitude you should have.
I'm going to go through it.
you don't don't at all think are you lord are you going to go with me of course he's going to go
with you you're in his presence what was the what was the what was the the the lesson from last
friday and faith Friday they were in a storm the lesson he wanted the disciples to know was
your safety is in my presence your danger is not that storm your danger is not being in my presence
right so he doesn't always make our storms end immediately but he decides when the storm will in
when the calmness will come what he desires is that you're you're in his presence
and then the third way
so prevention rescue
the third way is transformation
he turns the trouble
into a blessing
amen
so what does this mean
it means that the righteous
do not avoid all
suffering
but
calamity does not
overtake them
just because your suffering doesn't mean calamity will take over
go through it
it's not pleasant but he knows what you can endure
and while you're going through it he's doing a work in your life
and he's also doing a work in other people's lives
so the deliverance of the righteous is both spiritual and temporal
temporal meaning in this life
we're delivered spiritually but we're also delivered physically in this life
we're safe in the Lord's hands
and this next thing I've experienced and I don't I've told him
I don't like it, but it's okay because it's his way.
It's okay to tell the father that you wish he would have different ways.
It's okay.
It's okay.
As long as you say, however, that you will be done.
Yes.
His ways are not our ways.
That's right.
What I'm referring to is that.
oftentimes God intervenes at the very brink I'm like why do you do that it's my way
it's his way why do you wait to the last minute see it's not the last minute to him
because he doesn't have a watch that's right God doesn't own a watch but for us we're
like, you're risking me at the last minute.
He's like, there is no last minute.
Time has no meaning to God.
How do you tell somebody that they're late when he doesn't have time?
Why does he do it that way?
He gets more glory.
Amen.
He,
All right, listen.
The Lord really likes, he really likes to be glorified.
Okay, just just give him that, okay?
It's all about him.
It just is.
It's all about him.
He does things.
He orchestrates things so that he's the center of attention.
And don't you forget it.
that's right and he's someone worthy of that it's just the way it is when when he gets up from his
throne and takes a walk in heaven millions of angels bow down cry holy holy holy there are lightning bolts
there's flashes there's sounds there's music all he's doing is going outside he can't help it
it's just what it is when he walks he's got spark coming off his sneakers he just
all for his converse yeah yeah it's just him it's just him he rescues us at the last minute
right and you know what people say that was god yeah and it is that's what he's what he desired
people to say that was god i've said this before it's like uh it's like an indiana jones movie
where you're inside this big dungeon and you're standing on a ledge
and hundreds of feet below is water and there are crocodiles in it and all of a sudden
the ledge starts to move in towards the wall.
And you realize you only have a few minutes left,
and there will not be any ledge to stand on.
And you're, you know, in the Indiana Jones movie, you know,
you're like, where's Indy?
I got to get out of here.
And all of a sudden, just as the ledge is almost ready to disappear into the wall,
and you're going to fall down and go into the mouths of the crocodiles.
All of a sudden, Indiana Jones swings across the Gulf from one side to the other on a rope, grabs you,
and looks at you, and he said, you didn't doubt I was coming, did you?
And you say, of course not, Andy.
I knew you would be here.
You know, that's the way, you know, in a movie.
Jesus is like that's the way he rescues us and he looks at us and says you didn't doubt I would come did you oh no Lord I knew you were coming oh no I I didn't doubt at all I knew you were coming that's not sweat on my forehead just know that he will rescue you he will rescue you he will rescue you he know
how to deliver his people
from their trials
even
death is deliverance
for the righteous
enter eternal rest
he will escort you
at death he will escort you from this
world to the next
he's not even going to let you
try to fight you
your own way there he'll meet you at death he'll meet you and escort you yes don't fear death
and the wicked cometh in his stead in his place okay so this is a striking reversal
the trouble that might have destroyed the righteous falls upon the wicked instead
we see various examples in the Bible Esther chapter 7 haman he was they hanged him on the very
gallows he built to kill the Jews the Hebrews Daniel we studied Daniel weeks ago
the lion's den God delivered Daniel from the lion's den but his accusers were cast into it
pharaoh's army in exodus the egyptian army drowned in the red sea but the people of israel walked safely through on dry ground
the same sea that parted for god's people unparted and destroyed the people who sought to kill them
the lesson here the same things that are meant to destroy you to hurt you to damage you
will be flipped around and the damage will be done to the person seeking to hurt you
the wicked set traps for others but they fall into it psalm 7 verse 15 and 16 he has dug a hole
and has fallen into the pit which he made
the trouble he causes shall return to his own head
his violence shall come down on the crown of his own head
their destruction
becomes the very means of
the righteousness deliverance
yes
oh my
Yeah, Haman was hanged on the very gallows that he built for Mordecai.
Is there anybody trying to destroy you?
Is there anybody trying to wreck your life?
The very things that they're doing to you is going to be flipped around,
and they're going to be wrecked or they're going to be destroyed.
go through your trial, go through your affliction
without sinning against God.
God's watching all of it. He's watching. He's listening. He's observing.
The person who's trying to destroy your life is going to be destroyed.
I like the thing with God's taking notes.
He's watching. He hasn't forgotten.
He exchanges.
the outcomes to magnify his glory.
So there's a great exchange of divine justice.
The righteous are delivered from trouble,
while the wicket inherit the very calamity
they meant for the righteous.
Our confidence is not in our ability
or the ability of another human to save us,
our confidence has got to be in the Lord
who knows how to deliver his people
and to bring judgment on the wicked.
Let's look at what some of the great
Bible scholars of the past said.
Charles Bridges,
born 1794 died 1869 doc he was an anglican minister he was ordained in 1817 from 1823 to 1849 he was the vicar of old newton suffolk england and then he served as the vicar in waymouth dorset and then again
at another Anglican
church in Dorset
in the Hinton
Martell
he
wrote a book
called the Exposition of Proverbs
which is
where I get these quotes
it was published in
1840
Charles Spurgeon said
it was the best work on
Proverbs he had ever read.
Think about that, Doc.
When Charles Spurgeon studied
Proverbs, he studied
the work of Charles Bridges.
So what did Mr. Bridges
say about Proverbs 11
verse 8?
When the righteous
are delivered, the wicked are left in
their stead to drink the bitter
cup. The sword. The sword
is taken from the head of the believer
only to pierce the heart of the ungodly
what a beautiful words
beautiful phrase there that describes that
the weapon the scheme the plot
whatever the ungodly are doing against you
that weapon
will be taken from them
and pierced into their own heart
Albert Barnes
there is a retribution in life
by which troubles pass away
from the righteous
and fall with redoubled force upon the wicket
Alexander McLaren
Providence delights in these great reversals
the very trouble that would have crushed
to righteous is turned away
and the wicked inherit it.
Verse nine.
A hypocrite with his mouth destroys his neighbor,
but through knowledge shall the just be delivered.
So we know what a hypocrite is.
A hypocrite is an actor.
That's what the word means, an actor,
pretending to be somebody you're not.
So a hypocrite,
An actor with his mouth destroys his neighbor.
This is a godless, insincere person who is outwardly religious, friendly, but inwardly corrupt and mean.
The hypocrite's chief weapon is his or her mouth.
Right.
They lie.
They slander, they deceive, they give false advice.
See, we forget about that one.
Oh, the lying, the slander, the deception.
What about the false advice?
Yes.
A lot of people take false advice from these people.
Know the source is giving you advice.
they wound people with gossip manipulation slander betrayal they ruin reputations they destroy families they wreck communities
these are destructive people and they never pick up a gun or a knife or a sword
their weapon is their tongue
and they bring destruction and ruin and pain
everywhere they go
they're vicious they're hateful they're mean
even though on the outside
they can put this veneer of friendliness
but inside they're hateful and mean
Their words poison relationships
They cloak hatred
Behind their words is hatred
They maintain false friendships
They're not really your friend
they're very dangerous people they hide malice their malice is hidden under smooth words and that makes them very dangerous
so for us for you and me we have to discern the counsel that we receive not every smooth word comes from a sincere godly heart
right and the word that jumps out at me in this verse is the word neighbor this is somebody that lives
among us that maybe comes across as friendly as you know somebody you know that you just work with
or that you your kids go to school with or whatever it might be a neighbor yes at work the person
in the office next to you that's your neighbor
you know these people that you meet you ride together to work whatever he or she's your neighbor
psalm 55 verse 21 says his mouth was smooth as butter but his heart was war
his words were softer than oil yet they were drawn swords
nothing like the scriptures to paint a word picture of the danger
of words. Just
because somebody has smooth
words doesn't mean their heart is smooth.
It just means that they're
professionals at deceiving.
But
through knowledge shall the just be
delivered.
So the righteous are
rescued by knowledge.
Knowledge
of what? The Word of God.
truth discernment wisdom so how does how does knowledge deliver us number one knowledge will
unmask deceit knowledge will pull the mask off and you'll you'll see the real person
knowledge gives us the strength to endure slander without being destroyed
when you become aware of the tactics being used against you, you're now stronger.
You're at your weakest when you don't know and you don't understand why they're doing these things to you.
But once you have that knowledge, their tactics have less effect.
And knowledge will anchor you in God's truth.
so we're we're preserved by our awareness of god's word and it's a shield
john 832 says you shall know the truth and the truth shall make you free see knowledge
destroyed for a lack of knowledge.
Why are they destroyed?
They lack knowledge of God's Word.
It's not that they lack knowledge about the news of the world.
They lack knowledge about the truth of God's word.
Therefore, they're destroyed.
Knowledge is power.
It's spiritual power.
Knowledge of God's word is spiritual power.
Again, Apache on the back.
for coming here five days a week for one hour to be built up in knowledge of
God's word so guard your words do not wound others with slander and gossip do not
defame others slander and gossip are not only do they hurt others they hurt your own
soul you're hurting yourself john gill born 1697 passed away 1771 now doc he was the pastor of the strict
baptist church not not the loose folks down the street they put it in the name
of the church. They had a board meeting and everything. He said, what are we going to call
ourselves? We're going to be the strict Baptist church. And they met at, you're going to, they
met at the Goat Yard Chapel. You had to be strict. At the Goat Yard Chapel. It was in South
work, England.
He pastored there 51 years.
Okay.
He then, late in life, his congregation needed a bigger church, and they moved to St.
Olive Street in Southwark.
You're going to wait to hear this one, Doc.
That church later became.
the metropolitan tabernacle no kidding really yes pastored by charles spurgeon right yes
really the first mega church yes one more thing john gill was a personal friend
and ministry supporter of george whitfield wow
getting a, you know, an understanding of these people's biography, then you really appreciate
what they said.
What did John Gill say about Proverbs 119?
The hypocrite or profane man by lying, slandering, and evil counsel ruins others.
Yes.
But the righteous are delivered from such snares by knowledge of God and his word.
something else Gil said too is it harms the babes and faith
it harms the babes and faith the hypocrite does yes
and he equated a hypocrite with the false teachers of the day
you know people people that for whatever reason they're angry they're bitter
they're revengeful
and they will strike
out and hurt
innocent people to get
to the person that they hate
I don't know
God has mercy on them
you know when you
damage other people because you're angry
and you're bitter
and you're like I don't care who gets hurt
I'm going to
get even
you see this
often in families and divorces
and business breakups and church
splits where somebody
says I don't care who gets hurt
I'm going to get even
you know
that's a very
dangerous place to be spiritually
because the Lord may just
stop you in your tracks cold
and just say
enough Alexander McLaren my favorite of all of them born 1826 died 1910 pastor of the union
Baptist chapel in Manchester England he pastored there from 1858 to 1903 he was twice
president of the Baptist Union of Great Britain he was the president of the Baptist World
Congress in 1905 and he said about verse 9 words are weapons the false lips of the godless stab
and slay but knowledge is a shield by which the righteous are delivered from their blows
verse 10 when it goeth well with the righteous the city rejoiceth and when the
wicked parish there is shouting so the righteous bring blessing not only on themselves but on
their communities yes the prosperity of the righteous benefits others
god's favor is on the community and there's generosity and justice and peace
saying a rising tide lifts all ships that's what the blessing of the Lord does the
blessing of the Lord may be upon a small group of people in a community but everybody
benefits right it just the the overflow and it goes beyond the city it impacts a nation
as well. Of course. That's why, you know, one of the reasons why God blessed America for as long
as it did, because we had a righteous population. That's right. A group of people who sought the
righteousness of God. That's a shadow of things now. But still, there was a time where the
prosperity of this nation, I believe, was a direct result of the righteousness of God's people in this
Don, did you see President Trump's speech yesterday about religion in schools?
About bringing prayer back and...
Yes.
He issued a presidential directive to the Department of Education to protect the religious rights of children.
Yes.
There's some good things happening.
There's some very good things happening.
And God is clearly using Donald Trump to undo a lot of ungodly wicked decrees.
So when the godly flourish, the society in general flourishes,
the righteous are not a burden.
They're a blessing.
Everybody gets blessed when the righteous are.
a ruling
but when the wicked
perish there is shouting
a celebration
when the wicked die
why because the wicked
oppressed they exploit they deceive
and when they die
people feel liberated
we see this all over the world
every year when some tyrant
dies and there's rejoicing in the streets of the capital city why because people are like we're
finally free well that's going on in Nepal today is it uh yeah in Nepal uh they brought the uh
Nepali prime minister to hold him out of the palace and dry and they're dragging him through the
streets oh wow and so big right these are young people doing this
And so they're shouting and celebration.
You know, I don't know all the details about it, but I mean, this verse applies just as much today as it ever did in Solomon's day.
That's right.
So there's rejoicing when the wicked are defeated.
Think about Moses's Song of Deliverance after Pharaoh's army was defeated.
we rejoice john gill when it is well with the righteous through prosperity and success the city rejoices
but when the wicked parish there is shouting for joy for the oppression and mischief caused by them
is at an end uh charles bridges the righteous man is the joy of his city his welfare is their
blessing the wicked is the plague of his city his ruin is their
shout of deliverance.
Alexander McLaurin, communities feel the difference between the godly and the ungodly.
The one brings blessings, the other a curse, hence rejoicing when righteousness prospers
and shouting when wickedness ends.
Amen.
And then our last verse for today, verse 11, by the blessing of the upright, the city is exalted,
but it is overthrown by the mouth of the wicked.
No, this is not the army of the wicket, the mouth of the wicket.
So the blessing here is the blessing that they bring, the blessing of the upright,
it's the blessing that they bring through their righteous influence and the blessing
that they pronounce on their community.
So you have the influence of the right.
righteous and then you have the spoken blessing of the righteous by the blessing of the upright
the city is exalted by the way the righteous live and by the blessings that they speak
over the city over the nation over the community this the city is exalted so upright men and
women who love God, serve God, honor God, they are the pillars of human civilization.
And they lift up their cities and nations.
How?
By their presence.
Just by being there.
Yes.
Again, we're back to presence.
Why?
Is it their presence?
Because they're carrying the presence of God with them.
so god will bless entire communities cities states nations for the sake of the righteous living
within them there we saw when abraham interceded for sodom in genesis god blessed
Egypt for the sake of Joseph but it is overthrown by the mouth of the wicked so here's that
contrast the mouth of the righteous blesses the city but the mouth of the wicket brings the
city down it's overthrown what does that mean somebody else takes control
says it's overthrown oh yes see that doc it's not destroyed it's overthrown
another another being another person another ruler another army another nation overtakes it
so a single wicked ruler can bring a city to ruin
because the mouth of the wicked spreads violence, injustice, division, idolatry.
Their speech stirs up, rebellion, weakens, and corrods morality.
And so just as the words of the righteous blesses and builds up a community,
the words of the wicket tear it down for what we're seeing is the power of speech
our words have power yes of three quotes and then we'll wrap it up here today
charles bridges the city rises to honor and prosperity under the prayers and influence
of the righteous but the pestilent tongue of the wicked brings it down to shame and
ruin. I have to think, Doc, about some of America's great cities. Look at the condition
they're in. Look at Chicago, San Francisco, New York City. Look at the condition they're in.
Doc, within my generation, people wrote and sang.
songs about those cities yeah Chicago my town my kind of town Chicago is New York New York
Tony Bennett I left my heart in San Francisco we don't write songs about these places
anymore yeah what are you going to sing about the homeless the violent killers
These cities are under the control of the wicked.
There's something you won't hear on Fox News or CNN tonight.
The reason Chicago is so violent is that it's governed by the wicked.
There you go.
The reason San Francisco is filled with homelessness and drug addicts is because the city is ruled by the wicked.
get rid of the wicked the city will come back to life
Albert barnes the upright by their presence and blessing
raise the city the wicked by their words bring it to destruction
Alexander McLaren the world is preserved for the sake of the saints
the speech of the wicked is enough to shake cities
but the blessing of the righteous upholds them
we did it it's one minute past the hour good job did we learn anything today okay that's good to hear
I appreciate everybody being here amen and we really do appreciate you being here and
so many of you are so faithful and joining us each and every day and your faith your
faithfulness does not go unnoticed. And so we really appreciate and we appreciate your prayers for
this ministry as well. One thing before we depart our lesson for today, just a reminder that

new book, Megafire, America's next fourth turning crisis. Rick talks about biblical cycles,
the sin cycle and I'm I'm reading through the book myself right now it's chock full of stories
like only Rick can tell so if you enjoyed final day then you're really going to love megafire
and so we'll be telling you in the next couple days we're just doing some finishing touches
on being able to set up our order form and everything but you'll be the first to know as
as soon as we get that ready and so just been the next couple days about that did you want to say
anything about the book Rick well I know people are asking about the audio yes it's going to be an
