Good morning, everybody.
Welcome to Morning Manna, and it's Faith Friday.
And every Friday in the year 20, 25, we are studying the topic of faith.
And we've got a great lesson today on faith.
I know it's going to bless you.
It blessed me preparing it.
And I believe your faith is going to be stronger, more energetic one hour from now than it is right now.
Amen.
Also, because it's Friday, that means we will go to the Lord's table for Holy Communion.
So we encourage you to have bread and your choice of grape juice or red wine available at the end of today's lesson.
And anybody in your household or workplace, wherever you are, who is born again and baptized, he or she is welcome to join with us.
Those are the only two requirements we have that you're born again and baptized.
in water. So let's begin our lesson. We're going to be studying Luke chapter 5 verses 1 through 11.
This is boat faith. I'm still on the theme of boat faith. And today it's boat faith,
the miraculous catch. Here we go. Father, our wonderful Father in heaven. Father, we love you. We praise
we glorify you we exalt you we just love you father and father we love your son jesus christ we love your
spirit and we love your word and so father we're hungry to be taught your words so holy spirit
come take your seat in this bible study and build our faith our faith in our lord jesus christ
in his name jesus we pray amen
Amen. And good morning. Welcome, everyone. The morning man. I'm so glad to have you here with us.
We are a global Bible study that meets together live each weekday at 8 a.m.
With people today, Russia, Switzerland, Japan, Brazil, Malaysia, Australia today. Thank you so much for checking in with us.
We continue our series here on Faith Friday on Boat Faith. And we are in Luke chapter 5 today.
and we're going to be reading the first 11 verses of chapter 5 and the theme today is the miraculous catch on boat faith
and so read along with me if you will i'm reading from king james and it came to pass that as the people
pressed upon him to hear the word of god he stood by the lake of ganeserate and saw two ships standing
by the lake but the fishermen were gone out of them and were washing their nets and he entered into one of the ships
which was Simons, and prayed him that he would thrust out a little from the land.
And he sat down and taught the people out of the ship.
And when he had left speaking, he said unto Simon, launch out into the deep and let down your nets for a drop.
And Simon, answering, said on him, master, we have toiled all night and have taken nothing.
Nevertheless, at thy word, I will let down the net.
And when they had done this, they enclosed a great multitude of fishes and their net break.
and they beckoned unto their partners, which were in the other ship, and that they should come and help them.
And they came and filled both the ships so that they began to sink.
When Simon Peter saw it, he fell down at Jesus' knees, saying, depart from me, for I'm a simple man, O Lord, for he was astonished, and all that were with them at the draught of the fishes which were taken.
And so it was also James and John, the sons of Zebedee, which were partners with Simon,
And Jesus said unto Simon, fear not.
That's interesting.
I never thought about that phrase, fear not here in this passage.
From henceforth thou shalt catch men.
And when they had brought their ships to land, they forso forsook all and followed him.
Praise the Lord.
All right.
Good, Doc.
When we get there, I'll let you run with it, okay?
fear not why why did jesus say to them fear not when it was a miracle so let's begin
verse one luke five verse one world english bible now while the multitude pressed on him and
heard the word of god he was standing by the lake of jeneserate so faith began
begins with hearing.
We're here to talk about faith.
Romans 10-17, faith cometh by hearing and hearing by the Word of God.
If we're going to build our faith, strengthen our faith, enlarge our faith, we have to hear, and we have to hear the Word of God.
Faith comes by hearing, not hearing,
just anything there's a lot of noise out here in the world faith comes by hearing the word of god
so the people pressed upon jesus to hear the word of god so the crowd's eagerness shows that there was
hunger for divine truth in this instance they were they were genuinely see
speaking revelation from this man that they saw as a great teacher they didn't know he was a son of god they didn't know he was a messiah they saw him as a great teacher they knew he his reputation for doing miracles was already spreading but it was the word that he was speaking that attracted this crowd
to the lake of Geneserite.
This is not near a big metropolitan area.
And this is far from Jerusalem.
No major cities nearby.
So true faith arises when your soul is gripped with a genuine hunger.
to hear the word of God.
Praise God for every member of the morning manna Bible class.
There is no other explanation for why you come here five days a week for one hour
other than you, your soul is hungry.
And obviously, Doc and I are feeding you something because you come back.
you know if the class was getting smaller and smaller i'd say doc we got changed the recipe here
and we're not feeding the people but you keep coming back it's like a breakfast diner
it's just packed there's every seat's taken and it's a wonderful feeling
because the people pressed in to hear the word of god that's just packed
that's what it says about you so the multitudes pressing reminds us that disciples it reminds us as
disciples in my view god's word is the second most precious thing second most precious treasure
that we can and should pursue the presence of Christ is the most precious treasure
amen but in this case they pursued his presence to hear his word he was out by the lake
that's where they went he didn't go to the crowd the crowd went to him
Yes.
It's a big, look, if you're waiting on Jesus to come to you and pursue you, you've got this backwards.
He's waiting on you to pursue him.
And to pursue him for his presence and his word.
So this lesson on faith, boat faith.
faith is stirred when hearts sincerely earnestly pressed toward Jesus Christ to hear his words
and this reveals that they saw him as a
they saw him as a great teacher we now know him as the one true teacher
He stood by the lake of Janeserate.
You know what I see here?
Jesus meets men and women in the ordinary places of life.
Amen.
Aren't you glad?
He met them by a lake.
There was no city market there.
There was no Coliseum.
No amphitheater.
no busy marketplace no neighborhoods he met them by a lake but he'll meet you he'll meet you
by your lake he'll meet you at your job he'll meet you at your school he'll meet you in your
house he'll meet you in your barn he'll meet you in your truck he meets people in ordinary
places you don't there's yes yes you should go to church services yes you should go to church services
should not forsake the assembling of the saints but don't think that you have to be in a church building to meet Jesus
and don't think you have to be in a in a religious building or religious setting for Jesus to appear
he appears where men and women gather in the most ordinary places
don't separate the ordinary from the sacred.
Christ meets you in the daily places where men and women gather for life.
Right.
His presence makes the real world.
Yeah, his presence makes the ordinary place sacred.
Amen.
I mean, when you get right into it, Rick, this was a word.
site right you know that's what these guys were doing they're out there mending their nets washing
their nets these guys working i mean they're hard-working guys and they're you know they've been
working all night we toiled all night peter said we toil all night toiled
you've got two two groups here you've got the people pressing in to hear jesus speak
and then you have these fishermen who've who've just
us come in from the lake.
Hey, look at the crowd. What's going on?
Some kind of meeting here by the lake. That's unusual.
You don't have meetings at the lake.
So you've got two groups of people, the people pursuing Jesus to hear the word, and
you've got these fishermen who are exhausted, weary.
They fished all night and didn't catch a fish.
both of them are hungry
the fishermen were hungry
the fishermen were hungry for a fish
they didn't even have anything to eat for breakfast
they didn't have one fish to catch
to fry they didn't have one fish that they caught to fry for breakfast
so he stood by the lake of geneserate
He comes to the ordinary places of our lives.
Expect him.
Expect him to enter into where you're at today.
Get this thought out of your head that you've got to go to a special revival meeting.
You've got to go where Reverend so-and-so is there conducting Holy Ghost meetings in the presence of God.
Okay, I hope the presence of God is there, but you don't have to be there for Jesus to appear in your life.
he appears in the ordinary places he will make the ordinary sacred he chooses ordinary humble places to bring about great revelations it's his presence that sanctifies the common places right and that's not to say
that you can't have revival meetings or conferences or seminars and do all that but the idea is that
Jesus is real and he comes to and he dwells where the real people are where the hardworking
people are where the where the common people are where the people that can't afford a conference
or a seminar I mean that's where Jesus shows up and so it's not to condemn those things so much
but he's there i mean uh his presence is real and he wants to if you will be in that presence
himself in those real situations real he wants to be at the diner he wants to be down at the seashore
he wants to be involved in your life where the rubber meets road so to speak
by teaching on the lake's edge jesus was position was position
positioning himself for what would follow, which was launching the fishermen into the deep water,
but he's doing more than launching them into deep water.
He's launching them into deep faith.
Faith is about recognizing the authority of Christ.
And that's what these men did in this story.
But know this, he made the lake, he made the lake a, a, a classroom.
This is another example, another example of Jesus's on-site training.
He made it a place, it was a place that, to encounter him, to encounter his presence.
He created a stage for discipleship.
This is the lesson here.
before God calls you to launch any major project, major work of faith for you,
he will first call you to listen to His Word.
Amen.
This is the message you get.
This is the principle in these verses.
Jesus is getting ready.
These guys have no idea.
They don't know this is about to happen.
But Jesus does.
Guess who kept all the fish away from their nets during the night?
The God who made the fish.
Yes.
The God who made the fish told the fish don't go near those nets tonight.
You want to swim over here.
It was Jesus who prevented them from succeeding.
What are you saying?
Not because he wanted them to fail,
but he desired for them to start succeeding in a new way.
Right.
And so as disciples, before we go launching out into any new venture,
we first must listen to his word.
Let's see what the commentator said.
Adam Clark, Methodist, born 1762.
Do you think those Methodists knew anything about faith back there in the 1700s and the 1800s?
Those Wesley brothers alone riding 18,000 miles on horseback to share the Word of God.
Not only were their mouths tired, but their hind ends were tired, too, from all of that.
That's right.
And how many horseshoes did they go through?
oh my good how many horses think about that horses well adam clark methodus it was very close to the wesley brothers said faith must have a foundation and that foundation is the word
christ gave them the word first before the miracle that their faith might rest not on sight but on truth
well we'll check out the anglicans do you think anglingans knew anything about faith in those days
charles bridges born 1794 the word of god is the root of faith where the word is loved
impressed upon their faith springs and fruit abounds well let's check out the baptist
alexander maclaren born 1826 the pressure
of the crowd is the hunger of souls before faith can cast the net it must first hear the voice of
christ and then william are not free church of scotland they press to hear the word this is faith in
its bud thirsting for the truth the miracle that follows will be its blossom
Verse two
And saw two ships standing by the lake
But the fishermen were gone out of them
And were washing their nets
Christ
His eyes
Had purpose
His view
Had purpose
He's looking beyond the
he saw two ships he saw two platforms yes these are platforms today the word platform is very
popular in the media we use platforms if you're on faith and values dot com right now you're
you're on a platform
YouTube is a platform
Facebook is a platform
right it's
just a way to deliver a message
yes you need a platform to speak to people
but eyes of Jesus Christ
scan
the scene and he saw
two boats
saw two boats but chose one
And he chose one.
So faith often begins when Jesus
takes what is common
and turns it into something
to be used for his divine purpose.
The message I want to get across to you today is
the presence of Christ
makes the common sacred.
Amen.
His presence
is flowing through all of these lessons
about boat faith.
So now he takes
just a regular old fishing ship
and he turns us into a platform
to speak the word
of Almighty God to the people who are gathered.
So the boats, the boats can also represent us as disciples that we have to be prepared for his call.
That when Christ looks at you and says, I need to use you.
I need to stand inside you and speak.
Amen.
You need to be available.
See, nothing is too ordinary for Jesus Christ.
amen he sanctifies fishing boats
so faith begins
when we offer whatever we have
right to be used by the Lord
but so he saw the two boats
but the fishermen were gone out of them
that's because they had labored all night
they were exhausted
We're seeing here the futility of human strength, human effort that's apart from the presence of Christ.
Faith grows when our self-effort, human effort, cease us, and Christ enters the scene.
The boats were empty.
The image I get here is the scene of discouragement, fatigue, failure.
Why is that?
Because the boats were empty.
The men were not unloading fish.
Right.
It wasn't that the boats were empty of just a fisherman.
they were they were also empty of fish
that's where
the scene of discouragement failure fatigue
comes in
by way
I was thinking about this today Doc
I think Peter
the kind of business he ran
he was a wholesaler
Peter didn't
he didn't go out there
and work all night catching fish
and then work all day at the fish market
right he was a wholesaler so the the fish market retailers would come out to the lake and buy the fish
at wholesale right but that day there was nobody there was nothing to buy okay and so they
were washing their nets the fishermen so this is a
This is routine work.
It's what fishermen do at the end of every day.
They wash their nets.
It's a scene of resignation.
They're ready to put away their tools,
but with no gain.
It was a bust.
Peter and the men were saying,
let's just forget about this day.
Let's just write it off.
Let's not think.
about it anymore we worked all night we came back empty-handed let's just wash the net
and get ready for tomorrow and maybe tomorrow we'll catch some fish we've got to catch some
fish got families to feed so often our faith begins where disappointment
meets diligence it's just slight okay what do i mean by this they completely failed and yet they
washed their nets with a little bit of hope that tomorrow would succeed they didn't quit the fishing
business they washed their nets a routine job it's like scrubbing the floors it's like washing
your car it's you know it's washing your tools at the end of the day you know in construction
you know you're washing all the dirt everything you're cleaning the tractors you're you
didn't produce anything but you've got enough hope left that maybe tomorrow right you prepare
for the next day so disappointment met with diligence
They were weary, yet they were faithful in small matters.
So learn this principle.
Jesus Christ meets his disciples in ordinary faithfulness, not laziness.
Peter and the fishermen were, they didn't go sit under some trees and smoke some weed.
I'm done with fishing
I'm not going to do it anymore
I quit
no that's not what happened
they did
they were diligent
they washed their nets
even though they failed
so when you fail at something
do you wash your nets
or do you throw your nets
amen
the faithful the diligent wash their nets even though they failed it's a really important
principle to understand so even when results are absent disciples must continue preparing
and maintaining their faith nets.
Right.
Ready for the Lord's next instruction.
That's right.
And so you keep showing out.
You keep doing what you're expected to do.
You're faithful.
And if you're faithful,
if you're faithful in the small things,
the everyday things,
the things you're supposed to do every day,
God will take what seems to be a failure
what seems to be a failure and bring about a miracle
and see the name of the Lord glorified in the midst of it
because think about this,
if they had caught a whole bunch of fish the night before,
there'd be no lesson here today, would there?
No.
And if they had not washed their nets,
there wouldn't be a miracle.
Right.
Because they had to go back out.
Think about that.
If the nets weren't ready,
they wouldn't be able to catch any fish if they neglected the the mundane routine duties of life they would have missed the miracle this is what i'm trying to get across
don't quit the mundane routine things of life right they're important there are things i have to do every day it's like it just has to be done right but i'm being diligent
of being faithful right it's and i'm i'm cleaning my nets i'm getting ready
right nothing happened today but there's tomorrow folks it's important to the story that they were
washing their nets it's important because it when jesus said here in a few more verses to
go out and cast out your nets if they hadn't washed their nets their nets wouldn't have been
rolled up and ready to be cast out yes it's the preparation that allowed
the miracle to take place so what is it right now at this part of your life what things what mundane
regular normal things do you need to take care of to be ready when the lord speaks and says
i'm going to do a miracle in your life what we're going to learn in this in this boat faith's
lesson is that human efforts apart from jesus christ leads to
futility but faith begins where our strength ends this is one of the this amazing paradoxes
that Jesus's strength appears at your weakest moments right don't fear weakness he shows up when
you're weak it's just amazing don't be discourage
when you're weak it's it's it's a great opportunity for jesus to reveal his strength john gill baptist
1697 the boats empty of men and fish were fit to be filled with christ so must men be emptied of themselves
that he may enter and dwell i like that one doc yeah
That's good.
Adam Clark Methodist,
the fishermen were washing their nets weary with toil.
It is when man's strength is gone that God's power is made perfect.
Anglican Charles Bridges, the empty ships and weary fishermen are pictures of man's insufficiency.
Faith must wait for Christ's presence to make emptiness fruitful.
Albert Barnes
Though their night's labor was useless, they still washed their nets.
Showing diligence in small duties.
Faith is prepared when it keeps ready for the master.
Amen.
Baptist Alexander McLaren.
The empty boats and weary men are the stage for Christ's teaching.
Faith is born when he is born when he,
human effort fails and divine power enters.
William are not.
Free Church of Scotland, they washed their nets, though they had caught nothing.
Here is perseverance and duty.
Christ delights to meet men faithful in small things.
Right.
Do you have any other commentators there, Rick?
No, no, go ahead.
well I wanted to give some insight on nets there I so last night when I was preparing I was like well why wash your nets they're in the water what's the deal there why do you need to wash a net you know nets are wet anyway right well there's a reason why especially those that are in Ganeserit wash their nets because if you don't wash your nets the nets will stink and
you won't catch fish because the fish will know that it's a spoiled net and they'll avoid it
and so what they would do is they would bring them you know when they would get to shore they would
take the nets and they would mix it uh they would wash it with a mixture of uh fresh water and salt
to get rid of the stink if you will to get rid of the spoil and then during the day the net
would dry and of course it would get disinfected because the sunlight and the fresh water and salt
and then they would have it wrapped up and rolled up prepared ready to go for the next night fishing
and so you want to make sure that you don't stink okay that there's no stink on you when you're
prepared for your daily mundane task so there's a reason why they're washing that's i i was
curious because back home in Missouri, I never recalled ever washing a net. I mean, we would
lay it out to dry in the sun, but I'd never recall washing it. But the lakes in Ganeseret,
Galilee, they tend to be a little bit smelly. And so, and that's the reason why. I learned something
a new last night.
Doc, that's fascinating.
How do we apply it to our lives?
That when we're seeking to catch,
when we're seeking to catch the fish,
which are the souls of men and women,
we can't have any stink on us.
Amen.
Okay.
It's the tools that we're using.
Whatever we're using in our ministry should not smell.
Yeah.
Oh, glory.
See, the stink is not on the,
on the fisherman it's on the tools that he's using and sometimes not sometimes all the time
those tools have to be exposed to the light from the sun and in this case it's s o in yes and then it
renews the tools that we're using how many ministers are using old stinky tools to win souls
and they're not they're not getting great results anymore
because their nets stink
doc that's a revelation to me
I know it was something new to me
because I've done net fishing when I was a kid
and I can never recall
well my dad ever saying to me you better wash that net
before you take it back out I never thought of
they're even even doing it
and so it puzzled me when I said well why were they washing their nets
and so that's the reason why
I got a bridge in front of my house
there's always guys on that fishing
lots of times they have nets
I think now I'm going to ask them
hey you wash that net
maybe you should wash your net
you might catch more fish
I want to see what kind of reaction I get
I usually tell them I own all the fish
on the east side of the bridge
I'd say the first three foot
All the fish pull out of me
Yeah and I tell them I said
You have to fish on the other side of the bridge
And if one of my fish
Goes under the bridge
You have to give it three minutes to change his mind
And go back
If we can catch it, okay?
All right
So that's new information to me
So verse three
verse three and he entered into one of the ships which was simons and prayed him that he would thrust out a little from the land and he sat down and taught the people out of the ship two ships but one choice yes both ships probably were identical but he chose one yes he chose he chose he chose
ship owned by Simon Peter
okay
he wasn't after Peter's ship
he was after Peter's soul
he was after Peter yeah
yes
that was the reason
maybe Peter's ship was better
but
the Lord had his eyes
on Peter
I'm going to make that man a disciple
but what we see here is that our faith
our faith begins when Jesus Christ enters our lives personally
not just generally he's got to be personal to you
there's a lot of people in churches that have a general
relationship with God right
they don't have an intimate personal relationship right
And also, Simon was prepared, well, he may not have known it, but God had prepared Simon for Jesus to enter his ship.
So when God enters into your situation, your life, he's taking what you've already learned and your experience as a past to prepare you for this moment right now.
Jesus stepping on your boat.
That's right.
Now, this next principle, this excites me because I'm a businessman.
Peter's ship was his primary tool for business.
You can't run a fishing business without a fishing ship.
Jesus took something that was built for business
and made it a pulpit for the kingdom.
Amen.
Think about that.
If you own a business,
Christ desires to enter into it and use it as a pulpit.
Don't say, oh, I keep business separated from church.
Don't say that.
I hear that all the time, too.
Oh, no.
Oh, no.
He desires to enter into your boat.
Amen.
He wants to get into your business.
Yes, and he wants to make it so successful, you can't contain the blessings.
So once again, we see he takes something ordinary and he makes it sacred.
He dignifies this shipping boat, a fishing boat, by making it a place for divine teaching.
so what we're seeing here now is simon's future it's a simon he christ has not yet changed his identity
right he later simon later becomes peter but he's still under his old identity he's simon's
future mission is foreshadowed here his boat built for business becomes the first church platform in the kingdom of
god doc that right that excites me so much i never thought of this ever that the first preaching platform in the kingdom of god in the new covenant
age was a business platform that's right his fishing boat and what was it why the boat why did he
say do the boat we'll get into that year in a minute but there was a purpose for jesus choosing the
boat rather than just standing on the seashore you needed a place to be elevated
so that his his voice would be amplified that's right
so God will take your business and amplify his voice through it yes how many
businessmen and women are afraid to give their business to Christ yeah or or
selfish about it mm-hmm I mean let's be real right well church Jesus is good
and all that and he's good at church and stuff but he doesn't know
anything about the plumbing business right no god wants to use your profession for his
pulpit the god who made water doesn't know anything about pipes that carry water
so faith means surrendering what is yours to be used by god for the glory of his son jesus
christ whatever you have he desires it
I said the other day, there are a lot of church members who have not submitted to Christ.
Oh, I'll submit, I'll believe in your kingdom, I'll believe in you, but I'm not submitting.
Surrender.
Surrender everything you have and give it to him for his use.
he's not going to hurt you
he's going to bless you
and prayed him
that he would thrust out
a little from the land
now
the King James Jesus and prayed
now Jesus
asked Peter
his assignment
would you push this boat
away from the shore
he asked
yeah it may not seem like that
big a deal but what that would mean is you have to get the boat ready you had to pull up the anchor
you had to unhitch it from the dock you have to do all this you know it's not just a matter of we'll let
you push it out no you've got to well you've got to get the boat ready as if you're going out
into deep water so it wasn't just some you know throwaway ask of Jesus this this was you know
I want you to take your business I want you to stop what you're doing and I want you to listen
to what I had to say and trust that a little bit.
Yes, Doc, this very thing, thrusting out, okay?
Well, first was giving him his boat and then thrusting out.
These are the first two steps of obedience that Peter gave to Christ.
In ordinary, mundane affairs of life, these are the first two steps of obedience.
from Peter
he
he surrendered his boat
to be used
and then he he obeyed
he complied
with Jesus' request
he didn't roll his eyes and go
oh is not good enough for you just
to stand on my boat I got to push it out
he didn't do that
he cooperated with the Lord
yeah
Doc's right
look at all the things you had to do
to allow that boat to be moved away from the shore.
You know, Peter didn't roll his eyes and, hey, Mr. Jesus, whoever you are,
I mean, I'm letting you stand on my boat for nothing.
Right.
And I'm not working right now.
He didn't say it like that.
Simon Peter complied with the request of the Lord.
these are acts of obedience
Simon Peter has no idea what's going to happen
that these two steps of obedience
in doing something
what looks to be trivial, minor, mundane
was going to change his entire life
Simon was no longer
the fisherman of fish after this event
this was a life-changing moment for Simon
so our faith grows through small steps of obedience before we take great leaps
I saw it in my life in my early years God would give me small steps
Rick I desire you to do this why because I desire you to do it
the reason for it was he desired me to do it
it wasn't that something had to be done
it was I needed to obey
he was training me
to hear his voice and obey
so the request was simple
but it tested
Simon's willingness to obey
So God often begins with a little, a little request, a small push, a small task before he speaks deeper calls of faith in your life.
So be faithful in those little things.
None of us escape it.
Even Apostle Peter had to push the boat out.
I mean, later, years later, he's people are, he's walking down the sidewalk and crippled people are being healed because his shadow passed by.
Yes.
It all started with moving the boat from the shore.
That's what I want you to see about faith.
I think, oh, I want to be like, I want my faith to be like Peter.
I walk down the street, crippled people
just automatically get healed.
Okay, then push your boat out.
Yeah.
Because that's what Peter would say to you.
This is a small act.
The small act created separation.
Jesus needed space to teach.
So two things happened here.
The pushing the boat out was to give Jesus space from the crowd to teach.
The same act was used by Jesus to prepare Peter for greater obedience.
Little thrust come before big thrust.
We have to be faithful in these little.
things and he sat down and taught the people out of the ship why did he sit down because he's a teacher
right he's a rabbi he's a rabbi and he taught with calm confidence he took his seat
it represented a place of authority amen he made the boat a pulpit
He made the lake an auditorium.
He made the shore a congregation.
Our faith is fed by teaching.
Faith first, miracle second.
Signs and wonders, follow the teaching of the Word.
Yes.
We have these so-called miracle ministries today, and it's all about the miracles, and not about the word.
Not about the small acts of obedience leading up to it either.
That's right.
So, you know, this was a test for Peter.
doctor this this this was a new revelation for me today this was a test for peter
could he sit still in his boat while jesus used it to teach the word
do you know how hard that was for peter
peter was a man of action
this he he he was a strong man not yes physically strong but his spirit was strong he was a strong guy
for him to sit still in his own boat while this rabbi rabbi jesus is using it
peter had to sit there and probably bite his tongue it's like peter wanted to take
charge. Okay, Jesus, that's enough. I got things to do. But he didn't. He sat there and he
listened. So faith learns patience. Amen. Waiting while Christ teaches others before working a miracle
for you. Amen. Oh. That's a keeper. Faith works patience. We wait.
while Christ teaches other people before he works a miracle for you.
What Peter had to learn was faith and discipleship begins not with action because Peter knew action.
It starts with sitting under the teaching of Christ's word.
Amen.
Adam Clark
The little act of thrusting out the boat
was the beginning of Peter's obedience
Great things spring from small obedience
Charles Bridges
Christ sat and taught from the boat
How often he makes use of our humble means
For his glory
Faith must yield from readily
Faith must yield them readily
to his service
Alexander McLaren
Christ first borrows Peter's boat
before he calls him
the master still ask us to thrust
out a little that he may teach
the multitudes
that's an important
revelation
Jesus
asked Peter for his business
before he asks him for his soul
look at how this worked out peter showed up i mean christ showed up in peter's life and says i need to use your
business tools and you know this wasn't jesus's first encounter with peter no according to john
chapter one uh Andrew Peter's brother who'd been a disciple of John the Baptist brought Peter to Jesus
and said hey this is the Messiah this is this is the one we've been looking for and that's when
Jesus said you shall be called Cephas and so he had had that encounter before and Jesus had called
him at that time but yes for whatever reason Peter didn't follow went back to the boat went back
to fishing. And that's what Jesus makes this encounter right now. That's right. Well, Doc,
it's after the hour, so I'm going to stop at verse four, and we'll pick this up next week.
And because we could go another hour with this lesson. We still need to go to the Lord's
supper. And so we'll start, we'll finish boat faith on this lesson from Luke five. We'll
finish it next week right
one other thing in here
that intrigued me last night
and I just
I don't know how we ended up
studying the same thing last night
and the Holy Spirit I guess
is what happened between verses 3 and 4
because it said
Jesus taught the people out of the ship
and then verse 4 says
now when he had left speaking
and it doesn't say
what Jesus taught on
doesn't list his sermon, doesn't list his message,
didn't leave any notes or anything about what Jesus taught from the ship.
What God considered more important in this story
was what was happening with Peter than it was what Jesus taught
between verses three and four.
Now think about that.
We have no idea what he taught.
Nothing.
But it was enough to make Peter push the bow down.
even further and throw the net out and folks i just i just realized i didn't tell you that we were
studying luke five today so but the holy spirit told you the holy spirit told you so that's good
praise god all right ladies gentlemen uh as rick mentioned we are uh preparing our hearts and minds
for the lord's supper holy communion and it's always a privilege to enter into the words table
because what it does, once again, is it allows us to come together as a body of believers.
Okay.
In this, especially in Western Christianity, we're kind of, we don't really believe in community too much.
We all have a philosophy that we all are kind of on our own, that we're independent.
It's that American spirit, you know, you work out your own salvation, you know, things like that.
that we're kind of on our own.
But Scripture teaches something very, very different in that we are part of a community,
and particularly a global community of believers.
And there are two events in our lives that unite us all as believers.
Baptism and the Lord's Table.
It's something every believer participates in.
they participate in baptism if they're being obedient to scripture they participate in baptism
and they participate in the lord's supper and that identifies us as family as community
and that's why we put a priority on the lord's table the holy communion is because we recognize
that we don't stand alone we're not by ourselves i like to say you know we're not the lone
ranger because even the lone ranger had tonto okay we even the lone ranger wasn't alone and so we need
to break out of that mindset at times that we're out here by ourselves no we're connected this family
i'm connected to rick rick is connected to harmony harmony's connected to bob we're connected by
a common death barrier on resurrection and water and a common table of fellowship with the bread and the
one. And so when we enter into the Lord's table, we're saying we're family. You know how it is
whenever you have a special occasion or a holiday and all the family comes over. What do they
do? They gather around the table for a common meal. This is our common meal. This is how we
gather. This is what family does. They gather around the table and celebrate the memorial of what
God has done in our lives. And so before we enter into the Lord's table, we'll pray a prayer
blessing on the elements of communion. But generally before we do that, we ask the Lord to search
our hearts, to see and to search out those things in our life where we fall short. And we all
do. Every one of us does in one way or another, either through sins of commission or sins
of omission. That's not an excuse to sin, but it is an excuse to sin. But it is an excuse to
to receive forgiveness for sin. Amen. And so that's what we're going to do right now.
I'm going to ask Rick, if you would, to pray for us that everything is clear between us and
heaven right now, that our minds are clear, that our hands are clean, our spirits are ready
to receive the fellowship of His communion. And so, Rick, would you pray for us that the Lord
would search our hearts to make sure that all things are all right?
between us and heaven right now.
Would you pray for us?
Yes, Father God.
Father, we come to you with humble hearts
to receive the flesh and blood of your son
as we partake the bread and wine.
And before we do so, Father, we ask that you search our hearts.
And Father, that we would reveal to us anything
that we have done wrong or not done right
in the past week, things that we've said, things that we've thought that are not pleasing to you,
not acceptable to you.
We repent.
We humbly turn from all things, all thoughts, all deeds, all motives that are not pleasing to you, Father.
Cleanse us, wash us in the blood of Jesus Christ, that we would be worthy to come to his table.
In the name of Jesus, amen.
Amen. Amen.
And I just felt prompting in my spirit right now.
Someone out there that's watching or listening right now, either live or recorded,
Satan's whispering to you right now, you're not worthy of the Lord's table.
You don't need to do this and trying to throw guilt on you.
Well, I'll just say something to you.
You're not worthy.
You're absolutely not worthy.
You are not worthy of the bread or the cup.
I'm not worthy.
I'm not worthy of it.
And yet Jesus said that he died for me and forgave me.
If I confess my sins, he's faithful in just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
So I want to say to you, my friend, you're forgiven and you're clean.
You're forgiven and you're clean.
I'll say it one more time.
You're forgiven and you're clean.
And if that's you, just receive it in the name of Jesus right now.
you're forgiven and you're clean enter into the lord's table with confidence this morning we're
going to pray for the lord's blessing on the elements of the lord's table so if you'll pray with me please
almighty god and your tender mercy you gave your only begotten son of jesus christ to suffer death
upon the cross for our redemption he offered himself and made once for all time a perfect and sufficient
sacrifice for the sins of the whole world and he instituted this remembrance of his passion
and death which he commanded us to continue until he comes again and so father father we ask you to
bless and sanctify with your word and with your holy spirit these gifts of bread and wine
that we may partake of his most blessed body and blood christ our Passover lamb it's been
sacrificed once for all upon the cross therefore let us keep the feast hallelujah on the night that he
was betrayed our Lord Jesus took bread and when he had given thanks he broke it
and gave it to his disciples saying take eat this is my body which is given for
you do this in remembrance of me thank you all the body of our Lord Jesus Christ which
was given for you, preserve your body and soul to everlasting life. This is the bread of heaven.
Take and eat in remembrance that Christ died for you. After supper, Jesus took the cup,
and when he'd given thanks, he gave it to them saying, drink this all of you, for this is my blood
of the new covenant, which is shed for you and for many, for the forgiveness of sins. Whenever you
drink it, do this in remembrance of me.
The blood of our Lord Jesus Christ, which was shed for you, preserve your body and soul to everlasting life.
Drink the cup of salvation and remembrance that Christ's blood was shed for you and be thankful.
Behold the Lamb of God, behold Him who takes away the sins of the world, and blessed are those who are invited to the marriage supper of the Lamb.
The sacrament is the gift of God for the people of God.
Feed on Him by faith with Thanksgiving that Christ died.
for you. Praise God. Thank you, Lord. Hallelujah. Praise God. Do you feel better just participating in the Lord's
table? I mean, just the act of it itself is an encouragement. It says, I'm connected to you. I'm not
alone in this fight. God's involved, and I have brothers and sisters that are on the same page as me. They're going
through the same struggles as me they're learning to depend on jesus just like me that's what
the words table is all about we're in this together we're in the same boat folks it's it's his
meal his invitation his table his body his blood he's his body and his blood and he serves it
he serves himself the host who serves the host who serves the
host yes that's why i love him so much
glory to god do you know that can do these things can you name anybody else who can do it
i love him so much he's he's awesome he's just awesome praise god just think about it and dwell on
it all day long how awesome he is right uh nathan had a question about community is it okay to use a
pancake for community bread yes it's okay you're all right you're okay in that okay that's right
praise god glory to god what we the prophet asked for a pancake didn't he that's right so
and a miracle happened that's right praise the lord well it's been a great week here on morning
manna we started off the week really strong and it and we just kept that pace up all this week
in morning manna and today's lesson is no exception of that and we're just getting started in
this particular uh story uh with peter and with jesus and the ship here in luke chapter five
will continue this next friday there's a lot more uh there this is a gold mine of information
about faith here in luke chapter five and we we just found a couple nuggets wait till we hit
the vein later on again this chapter
Praise God.
Amen.
All right, Rick, any words of encouragement as we end today's Faith Friday and look forward to this coming weekend?
I just, I want to tease and encourage you.
I can't go into details, but I'll just, I just want you to know that we are working on incredible rebuilding,
revamping of our platform.
It will be available, God willing, it will be available in January.
And you are going to be amazed at what's under construction.
Amen.
And we're doing it for you.
That's right.
We're doing it for you for the glory of God to bring you more word.
And I realize that this year's been a year of great change in this ministry.
And for those of you who are with us on a regular basis, thank you for your faithfulness.
Thank you for your partnership.
Thank you for your gifts of love and prayer.
and we really appreciate you're about to see the results of those prayers and that faithfulness
pay off in a big way we are really working hard toward doing something new and so it's very
very exciting and it's going to build on what we've done in the past but we're not going to
be beholden to the past we're looking forward to what God has in store for us for the future
Rick, if I could just briefly let folks know, we still, you know, we're in the first week of release of Megafire here, folks.
And so what is Megafire?
Well, if you don't know what it is, it's Rick's latest book talking about America's next fourth turning crisis.
And before we got started today, Rick and I were just talking about some news events that are happening around the world right now, and decisions that are being made and comments that are being made, that it,
It's becoming more and more apparent that there is a stage being set for a global conflict
that is going to be taking place maybe even sooner than we can even imagine.
And Megafire gives some insight in how you can watch for the trends and the cycles and the patterns
that are apparent in the new cycle, in the weather cycle, just in the general cycles of man.
This is, I would say this is not a prophetic book, more as it is, a book that reveals patterns and cycles that God established right from the very beginning.
We cannot escape these patterns and cycles.
We might disrupt them slightly, but they will come to pass.
Megafire, Rick's latest book, America's next fourth turning crisis, you can get it at megafire.
dot world. That's
www. megafire
dot world. W-O-O-R-D
world dot world. And it's actually a web
extension nowadays, folks. That's great.
Thank you.
What I told
this morning as I came in the office,
I'm concerned by what I heard this morning on
Sirius X-M listening as I was driving in. I heard a
discussion on a news channel
about Ukraine and Russia and NATO
like I told Doc
I said I think they're going to speed this thing up
you know
the timeline that I put in the book
is several years out
after that conversation today I thought
they're powerful
people and entities right now
pushing this very day
to accelerate
the timeline to this war
and I'm talking about
There are people that would like this war to be in early 2026.
Now, get the book and use it as a way to talk to your friends and relatives and co-workers and just wake them up to what's happening.
Right.
And I know we don't talk about it very much, but we still participate with American Reserves.
That's American Reserves.com.
and I would encourage you to visit there here again if you've not made any personal preparation
as far as food preparation items, things like that.
American Reserves has a wide variety of products that will help you get in preparation,
but I'm telling you, there's something big that's coming in the first half of 2026,
maybe the first quarter, and now the way things are speeding up,
may even, there may be trigger events that happen before the end of the year.
That's right.
So I would encourage you, not only to get megafire at megafire.world, but also, if you
haven't done so in a long time, visit Americanreserves.com, just ask a question, are you ready?
Are you ready?
And so not out of fear or anything like that, but out of faith in preparation, knowing that
you see the patterns in the world around you, are you prepared for the change?
that will take place there's no doubt that changes are going to take place no
doubt and some of these changes are going to be so radical and and that will turn
the world upside down and it could be happening faster than you can't imagine
amen that's right and by the way nigafar is available on American reserves
that's right it sure is and get in here also okay everybody enjoy your weekend
spend time with the Lord
cut out some time
just to be quiet with him
and let him speak to you
learn to just enjoy
being in his presence
let him in your boat
okay everybody
we'll see you on Monday
