TRUNEWS with Rick Wiles - Morning Manna - September 29, 2025 - Proverbs 13:1–5 - Wise Sons, True Words, and Honest Hearts
Episode Date: September 29, 2025In today’s Morning Manna, we reflect on Proverbs 13:1–5, where Solomon contrasts the wisdom of a son who listens to instruction with the folly of the scorner who rejects correction. We see how wor...ds bring either blessing or ruin, how guarding the tongue protects life, and how diligence brings abundance while laziness leaves only empty desire. Solomon also reminds us that the righteous hate lies, while the wicked live in shame and corruption. These verses teach us that humility, discipline, careful speech, hard work, and truth are the hallmarks of a life pleasing to God.Teachers: Rick Wiles and Doc BurkhartYou can partner with us by visiting FaithandValues.com, calling 1-800-576-2116, or by mail at PO Box 399 Vero Beach, FL 32961.MEGA FIRE reveals the ancient recurring cycles of war and economic collapse that have shaped history for 600 years. uh... singapore malaysia brazil and our first timer today from nairobi welcome today to
morning manna glad to have you with us alive and across the
US and Canada today. Today we're going to be focusing on verses 1 through 5 of chapter 13, starting
chapter 13 today. And in these verses today, we're going to be getting the basics on how our
attitudes reflect the instruction we receive, the speech and the work that we do, and how that
shapes the course of our life, and how they either bring preservation or destruction. So read
along with me, if you will, here. Chapter 13 of Proverbs, verses one through five. A wise son
heareth his father's instruction, but a scorner heareth not rebuke. A man shall eat good by the
fruit of his mouth, but the soul of the transgressors shall eat violence. He that keepeth his mouth
keepeth his life, but he that openeth wide his lips shall have destruction. The soul of the sluggard
desireth and hath nothing, but the soul of the diligent shall be made fat.
A righteous man hateeth lying, but a wicked man is loathsome and cometh to shame.
God bless the reading of his word today.
Okay, good variety of proverbs.
We'll start with verse one.
King James, a wise son heareth his father's instruction, but a scorner heareth not
rebuke, the Septuagint, a wise son is obedient to his father, but a disobedient son is destroyed by the rebukes of his father.
I would point out that most of the churches in the world, particularly the Orthodox churches,
Greek Orthodox, Russian Orthodox,
Syrian Orthodox,
the really old church denominations,
they use the subtergent translation
for the Old Testament.
And King James has a slightly different
translation into English.
Yeah, the King James translated from the Latin Vulgate.
And so they
derived a different, you know, translation. But like you said, the Orthodox churches, they rely back
on translations from the Septuagint. So in their mind, they're going back to the original source
of the translation in Greek. Yes. I personally prefer the Septuagint. The Septuagin says a wise
son is obedient to his father, but a disobedient son is destroyed by the rebukes of his father.
So what we see in verse one is that wisdom is presented as teachability, humility.
The wise son and daughter hears and obeys.
Why?
They have a teachable spirit.
The only way you can have a teachable spirit is to have a humble spirit.
You can't be proud and teachable at the same time.
It's not possible.
If you were teachable, you wouldn't be proud.
What is the essence of a proud person?
Somebody who knows everything.
Can't teach them anything.
Right.
So the wise son and daughter hears wisdom and obeys wisdom.
Here's instructions, obeys instructions.
The wisdom is the ability to hear,
and obey that's the wisdom instruction in this verse means guidance discipline
discipline correction the wise man or woman embraces these things as gifts
whereas the proud person resist those things to receive instruction is to honor your
father and mother and ultimately honor god right how can you honor god your father if you don't honor
your earthly father that may hurt for some people but the word is the word honoring your parents
is in the big ten, the big top ten commandments.
Exodus 20, verse 12, honor thy father and thy mother.
Why?
That thy days may be long upon the land which the Lord thy God giveth thee.
Amen.
The reason you honor your parents is that your days may be long.
living in the land, the realm, the area that God has assigned to you.
And then in the new covenant, Ephesians chapter 6 verses 2 and 3 says,
honor thy father and mother, which is the first commandment with promise.
Why?
That it may be well with thee.
And thou may us live long on the earth.
So in my way of thinking, if this commandment, honor your father and mother, has a promise.
The promise is that things may go well with you and you may live long.
Then the reverse is true.
Dishonoring your father and mother means things will not go well for you and you may not live long.
that ought to shake up some people look I can say this I did not have a good relationship with my earthly father
he was disconnected okay um but doc I can honestly say that I honored him and
And to the day he died, I attempted to have a relationship with him.
I can say that.
I don't have any guilt.
I don't have any shame.
I honored him, and I never held against him the way he behaved.
And I pursued a relationship with him until the day he passed away.
That's good, Rick.
And so I don't have any guilt.
I don't have any shame.
It's like I did what I could.
He never did become a father.
But it's not my fault.
Right.
And I'm saying this because I believe that there are people in this class right now.
You may have that situation in your life.
It might be happening right now.
You have an earthly dad who just.
won't have a relationship.
You can't connect with him.
It shows no interest.
He's disconnected, detached, detached from your life, okay?
Still honoring.
Same with your mother, okay?
You may have a mother who's overbearing, domineering, controlling, okay?
You still honor her, but you don't have to allow her to dominate and control.
but you can respect and honor and the Lord will honor you he will honor you he'll make things go
well in your life and he'll extend the days of your life see I'm looking for everything in this book
that says do this and you live longer do this and you're richer do this and you're happier
okay I'll take all of them I'm not I'm not interested in doing the opposite
right
Lord keep
prevent me from doing the opposite
of what is right
use that big old shepherd
hook and hook my neck
and bring me back in line
that's right
I desire him to be a shepherd
in my life
so
wisdom begins
with reverence
it starts with the fear of the Lord and the fear of the Lord is reverence of God
and it manifests itself in your life
with a heart that's open to learning
to receiving to being advised
to receiving counsel
I receive counsel I receive counsel
I go to people when I have problems and I'm like, I need advice.
I don't know what to do, especially when you realize, hey, everything I've been doing on this situation is not working.
Right.
That's a good time to get advice.
You know, if what you're doing is not working, why would you continue to do it?
Right.
that's the essence of stupidity there
I know
but I know people who
who've done the wrong thing for decades
thinking it
and prove
thinking it one day this is going to work
and
their situation gets worse and worse and worse and never works
and they refuse
and you know why they refuse to change
pride
pride doc that's why i'm not going to change my way is the way and i don't care if it's not working
eventually it's going to work that's proud stupidity just thinking to be it's one thing to be stupid but to be
proud about it.
I don't get it, but I've
met people that way.
And you come to the place where you just realize, you can't,
you can't change them. Just let them go.
Just let them go. They're going to be that way till they die.
Isn't that sad to say? Isn't that sad?
You just come to the place to say,
they're not going to change. They're going to be that way
until they die. Unless the Lord intervenes, that's
that's it. That's it.
But, Doc, the only way the Lord intervenes is if the person submits to him.
Right.
The Lord resists the proud.
He doesn't intervene.
He resists them.
Boy, that's a bucket of ice water in the face, isn't it?
He doesn't intervene with the proud.
He resists them.
He moves towards the broken hearted
The lowly, the humble
Those are the ones he moves towards
The proud and the arrogant
He just says, go your way
When you fall flat on your face
And you can't get up, give me a call
All right
So
So the wise son
or daughter sees
godly correction
as the path to growth
and blessing
not humiliation
or rejection
so faith teaches us
to receive both
divine instruction
and human advice
because
speaking through other humans
is one way God
instructs us well Rick how would you respond to someone that would say that well my
mother or father they they don't know the Lord or they they're not that good of people
you know I mean they maybe they have some severe character deficiencies does this still
apply it sure does yes your godly behavior might be the thing that
leads them to the Lord just do what God says honor your father and your mother
honoring them does look when you're an adult you do not have to obey your father
mother that they don't run your life when you've left home you married you're
you don't have to obey your father and mother they don't they can't rule your life but
You can honor them.
Right.
Okay.
You can listen to them.
Say, you know, Mom, I'll listen to you.
I will sit here and I will listen to your opinion and your advice.
I treasure it.
It's I'll listen.
But you're not obligated to obey them because they're domineering.
People can be domineering and sweet at the same time.
isn't that true strong-willed people they can be sweet and domineering the same time so you still show honor you can show honor by going to your parents saying hey i'd like your advice on this you show honor by um blessing them doing things for them
there's different ways to honor your parents but let them go to their grave happy with their son or daughter right the scorner what does the scripture say let's go back the situagen says but a disobedient son is destroyed by the rebukes of his father the world
English Bible says a scoffer doesn't listen to a rebuke.
A scorner is a mocker, a scoffer.
An eye-roller.
You know eye-rolling is mocking?
When somebody goes, oh, brother, give me a break, okay?
You just mock that person.
Somebody's rolling eyes while you're talking.
talking they're mocking you a scorn or somebody that's negative critical casting judgment uh judging judging
judging other people scorners that's not going to work that idea you're working on that thing's
going to fail you remember the last thing you did that failed i tried to tell you was going to fail and I tried to tell you
was going to fail and it failed this thing you're doing right now it's going to fail you move
over there to that city i'll tell you right now you're going to regret the day you did it
that's a mocker scorner scoffer you tried to start a business you lost everything you do it again
i'll tell you what don't come begging to me for money scorn her mocker
It can be, yeah, you've got that sickness, and I told you to get an operation.
You're doing that faith thing, that religious thing.
That's Mark.
You see what's going to happen to you.
You're going to see.
Just watch.
Scorner, mocker, scoffer.
Yeah, I know you've got this, you head up there in a cloud with this faith stuff, but I live in the reality. I live on the ground. My feet are on the ground. Your head's way up there in the clouds with that religious stuff. My feet's on the ground. See, that's a scoffing attitude. They're proud. They're self-sufficient. They're resistant to correction. They refuse a godly rebuke.
they despise the message and the messenger believe me i have encountered people that will turn on you
because you give them a godly message how dare you bring the word of god to me they'll talk to you
got anything else they'll they'll talk football they'll talk hunting they'll they'll talk about the
neighbors they'll talk about everything but bring up jesus i don't believe in that church stuff
we're talking about their soul or eternity so prolonged pride hardens the heart and it hardens the
ears.
Mockers cannot learn because
mockers will not humble themselves.
That's because of the pride.
These go together.
And so what the Septuagint is telling us,
the Septuagint translation of the Old Testament,
that scorning eventually leads to ruin.
The scorner
is destroyed,
by rebukes the rebukes are not meant to hurt the person no i got to take that back doc
i can interpret this right what it says but a disobedient son is destroyed by yes by the rebukes of
his father so godly rebukes and don't think of rebuke as a finger wagging i rebuke you
that's not what it's a rebuke can be gentle it should be a godly rebuke is gentle
when the lord corrects you when he rebukes you he does it with gentleness it's only after
prolong rebellion and resistance over years and years and years and years and years does God deal firmly
and a rebuke becomes serious chastisement.
Yeah, where they actually mock reproof, mock us, correction.
Yes, that's when you're in the last stage then, when you are, when you're rebuking God's reproof of you.
so rejecting correction is rejecting wisdom
and that is rejecting God's voice
so
the spirit of scoffing
closes the heart to truth
it's a spirit
it is a spirit that comes on a person
let's see what the
commentators said
Adam Clark
he who is wise
will ever be willing to learn
but he who mocks at everything
never seeks instruction
and cannot be mended
Charles
Charles Bridges
teachableness is the mark of wisdom
pride refuses correction
the wise hears his father instruction
as from God
the scorner turns away and perishes
Albert Barnes, wisdom listens, scorn rejects,
the contrast is between reverent submission and proud defiance.
And Alexander McLaren, to despise reproof is to despise life.
To listen is to grow wise.
The scoffer's end is self-destruction.
Verse two.
King James, a man.
shall eat by the fruit of his mouth,
but the soul of the transgressors shall eat violence.
The Septuagint, a man shall eat good by the fruits of his mouth,
but the soul of the transgressor shall eat violence.
I've got it right.
Okay, let's start with the first part.
Words bear fruit.
We've talked about this throughout our study of Proverbs.
Words are seeds.
Words you plant seeds.
Every time you speak a word, get this in your mind.
You've got to constantly remind yourself every single day, every hour, every minute.
Words are seeds.
if the words that you're about to speak
are something you don't desire to grow up and give you a harvest and don't speak it
just keep that seed inside you because we speak words that go into the spiritual soil
germinate and grow up and produce fruit
and many times it's fruit we don't desire to eat
but baby there it is it's your fruit
yes came from your mouth
deal with it
so the tongue yields consequences
you know we
doc we just got to get a picture in our mind that our tongue hanging out and seed dropping off our tongue all day long
everywhere we go it's just dropping seeds what's growing up around you the seeds you plant it with your tongue
yeah you know i'm reminded that uh when i was a kid of course when you get into the fall you harvest your corn and
and you know you'd load up the trucks and then the trucks would drive from the field down to the green elevator but along the way as you're driving along you hit these bumpy roads and everything and corn bounces out of the truck and everything and sits there and then next spring you're driving along that road and what do you think you find along the road stalks of corn growing up along the ditch because they dropped out of the truck
the seed found soil to start growing in and you'd go along there'd be corn stalks growing up in the ditch
between where you drove from to the grain elevator and that's exactly what the words are doing
every single day that we speak uh they're dropping off the grain truck every single day
and producing a harvest right so wise gracious speech brings blessed
sing favor and peace it says that they shall eat good they will enjoy the fruit of their righteous speech
what goes what comes out of your mouth will produce a life that your spiritual mouth will consume
Boy, think about that, Doc.
Your spiritual mouth is eating the fruit of what you plant it with your mouth, with your physical mouth.
Right.
You'll have favor with men and women.
You'll have favor with God.
So speech that edifies, comforts, blesses, produces.
a harvest of good, both for the speaker and for those who hear the word.
We're going to learn as we get to Proverbs 18, verse 21, death and life are in the power of the tongue.
That's not just a saying. It's truth. Yeah, and the verse right before that one,
Proverbs 1820, a man's belly shall be satisfied with the fruit of his mouth.
right a man's belly shall be satisfied with the fruit of his mouth that means prosperity follows
those who plant good seed with their mouth that's right you will eat
what your mouth plants again each of us we need to do a survey of our life
do you like what you're eating spiritually emotionally do you like it it's to harvest from your
mouth i'm telling you this is a it's not a bring conviction on every one of us
go through today guard your lips if you can't speak a good word then shut up you're hurting yourself
by speaking negative words right um you know anybody that's like quick tempered like oh you
just the slightest thing oh just the slightest thing sets them off like whoa where did that come
from it i mean sharp nasty words will come out of their mouth like wow oh i didn't i just
I didn't mean to upset you, okay?
See, you know, I control their tongue.
And they use their tongue as a weapon.
They use their tongue.
They weaponize their speech.
And they think they're satisfied by slashing people,
but actually they're slashing themselves.
That's the message here.
Your words either bless you or they curse you.
but your words bless others or they curse others so the consequences of words affect not only you
but it affects the other people who heard the words but if you think you're speaking nasty
words to impose emotional pain or humiliation or something on another person and you're like
man i love just digging into that person i love this putting that person down i love that
slander, you're hurting yourself. In the end, you are destroying yourself. You think God isn't
seeing it and listening to it? The soul of the transgressors. What is to say? Verse two,
but the soul of the transgressors shall eat violence.
They don't eat blessing.
They eat violence.
It means their lives are filled with conflict, inner turmoil, struggle,
All kinds of problems.
They eat violence.
They, not only do they speak negative, scornful, sharp, mean words, but they consume it as their subsistence.
They consume it.
They eat it.
You know what that is, Doc?
That's their narc supply.
there's there it is again there's narcissism in the book of proverbs that's their narc supply
the reason they speak mean spirited words is to inflict pain on somebody else
humiliation embarrassment to bring somebody down and then they eat they consume that negative
energy yes and they can't understand why their lives are
so distorted and messed up and their health is bad and they don't have any peace of my
there it is you're eating violence so the violence here means I mean it can mean
physical harm but it includes emotional harm it includes injustice you're not a person's
not fair. They're unjust. They're cruel. They oppress. See, oppressors are more than just some
governmental tyrant in some country oppressing another nation or people within his or her nation.
Now, there are oppressors in families. There are oppressors in businesses. Wherever you have a group of
people there's somebody who wants to be an oppressor yeah here's the bottom line evil desire
leads to destructive outcome sinners crave what destroys themselves and others that is
narcissism there it is they crave the narcissistic supply the narcissistic supply the
NARC supply.
They only can get it by destroying the soul of another person.
And that's what they feed on.
They're feeding on death and it destroys them.
Their appetite is for ruin and they reap what they sow.
Now, so now you think about somebody in your life who is constantly,
either they're attacking you or you know they're attacking somebody else what are they doing
they're tearing that person down because they need that person's pain they need to feed on that
person's pain oh it's warped doc it is so warped i can't even comprehend how somebody gets like that
how do you get in a state of mind that you need somebody else's pain to keep you sustained
throughout today it just shows you how low you are really it should reveal that
to you but it won't because pride gets in the way yes because you're smarter
than the other person you're you've got a better opinion you're you're right
they're wrong all the people do it have extremely low self-esteem and the
instead of building their self-image in a positive way,
the way that they get through life is destroying the self-image of other people.
Yes.
It's twisted. It's warped.
So you're telling me the only way you can lift yourself up is to pull other people down.
You're sick. You're twisted.
But there are millions of people like this.
let's hey let's see what john calvin said about it all right a wise man is nourished by his words for his speech brings peace and joy to himself and others
but the wicked given to transgression find violence their only food they consume destruction
at that time, at that age.
Let's see.
Well, a little bit later, because he was born in the 1500s.
I think John Wesley.
Okay, yeah.
You get Calvinism and Wesleyism.
Right.
Opposite ends of the spectrum there, yes.
Well, let's see if Wesley was opposite Calvin, because that's the way he's presented, that these are two opposite theologians.
this is what Wesley said
the fruit of his mouth
his pious discourse and instruction
is as satisfying to a good man as his necessary
food but transgressors live upon violence
delighting in it and shall have their fill
of it same thing
same thing so Calvin and Wesley were not that far
apart were they
and we'll check
And with your favorite Scotsman, William Arnott.
William R. Not. Oh, I'm loving that book, Rick.
Brother R. not said, every word is a seed, and every seed has a fruit.
The righteous man enjoys the good that springs from his lips, but the sinner finds violence to be his meat and drink and becomes his ruin.
verse three he that keepeth his mouth keepeth his life but he that openeth wide his lips shall have destruction
the subtoagint he that keeps his mouth keeps his soul but he that is hasty with his lips
shall terrify himself talk look at it shall terrify himself
yes well let's let's see what this means okay so words are not neutral they promote life they preserve life or they destroy life there's no such thing as a neutral word so we are to guard our mouth he that keeps his mouth keeps his soul
are you interested in keeping your soul
this is serious doc
do you want to keep your soul
then keep your mouth
it means keep means to guard
guard your mouth
right
Psalm 141 verse 3 says
set a watch oh Lord
before my mouth said a watch
oh lord before my mouth i just
a little guard house right here
and there's a guard inside that guard house
and he's just saying
does that word should that word go out
that's how i imagine it
apostle james said wherefore
my beloved brethren let every man
be swift to hear slow to speak
slow to wrath
James also said
Even so the tongue is a little member
And boast great things
Behold how great a matter
A little far kindleeth
And the tongue is a fire
A world of iniquity
So is the tongue among our members
That it defiles the whole body
And sets on fire
The course of nature
And it is set on fire of hell
now when this says
he that keeps his mouth keeps his soul
is that driving home now
that tongue can send you to hell
boy that's enough right now
just zip your lips the rest of the day
these people who are just
loose with their
sharp
pointed dagger tongues
I'll say what I want to say
I don't get
and Jesus said
you know
you denied me before men
I'll deny you before the father
you said something
you said something
you denied the Lord
with your lips
yes
there are people who have been on a life rampage to destroy one or more persons for years
and i'm telling you right now if you're listening to me you must repent or you're going to lose
your soul amen repent you have no you have no conviction of the damage you've done to other people
with your mouth you have no conviction at all i pray that the holy spirit convicts you and that you break down
and weep and repent before god and go to the persons that you have wounded on purpose with your
mouth right and repent and make men with that person because you have damaged other people
they've struggled with pain they've struggled with the effects of
of your attacks, your negativity. They've had to struggle. You are going to be held accountable
on judgment day for the words that came out of your mouth. Yeah, Jesus said that. He said,
I say into that every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereup in the day
of judgment. Every idle word. How many idle words? How many idle words?
Cross your lips every day.
Oh, it starts getting scary really fast.
It does.
But he that open wide his lips shall have destruction.
So the person who guards his or her mouth keeps their soul,
but the person with a big, wide open mouth shall have destruction.
open wide that means reckless uncontrolled unrestrained speech again these people with this attitude i'll say
what i want to say i'll speak the truth hey if it hurts it hurts doesn't it if the shoe fits
wear it i mean this is this the way they talk they don't care they don't care what damage they do
They've got a big, wide open mouth.
But it brings destruction.
It brings destruction in this life in their family lives, their social lives, their employment, their business lives, in the church, spiritual lives.
But eventually it brings destruction eternally.
Because the Lord says, you're not bringing that mouth into my house.
you just turn right around you're not bringing that mouth in my house i like that
well that that would be a good meme wouldn't it jesus standing at the door of his house
pointing as some scoffer mocker narcissistic attacker saying you're not bringing that mouth
into my house that ought to just terrify you
And that's what it says.
The man terrifies himself.
That's what this means.
Inside he or she knows that they have no control of their mouth and it terrifies them.
What has control of their mouth?
The devil.
deep down they know
my mouth is poison
it's a it's a well of poison
I spew it everywhere I go I know it
deep way down deep inside of them
they know that
that they've got this poison in them that comes up
out of their mouth
and it terrifies them
it haunts them
Matthew Henry
That old Presbyterian who died in 1714
He said those who keep a good government of their tongues
preserve themselves from many evils
But those who run at random with their tongues
will have enough to answer for both to God and man
Adam Clark, Methodist, passed away in 1832,
a man who governs his tongue, saves his life,
but he who is ever tattling and finding fault
will have destruction from his unbridled tongue.
And Anglican, Charles Bridges,
who passed away in 1860s,
69. Our tongue is either our best friend or our worst enemy. The tongue kept is the soul preserved. The tongue let loose is the soul destroyed.
Calvin, John Calvin, he who governs his mouth shows wisdom for rash speech. Kindle strife and provokes judgment, but keeping silence when needed, he preserves life.
John Wesley, John Wesley, the founder of the Methodist Church,
he that keepeth his mouth bridles his tongue,
keeps his soul from many sins and miseries,
but he that opens it wide without care or restraint
brings destruction upon himself.
Do you know why Wesley's,
the church is called the Methodist Church?
He didn't set out to, he was an Anglican.
He never, ever intended to start a denomination.
John Wesley was an Anglican.
But he had a method for teaching the Word of God.
And so his distractors, his critics said,
ah, over there, Wesley and his Methodists are meeting.
He's teaching them his method.
His method for hearing the Word of God.
that's where that comes from a little bit of church trivia we are not free church of scotland
passed away in 1875 the mouth is a gate if guarded the city is safe if left open the enemy the enemy
enters and destroys he that guards his lips guards his life
Reformed Baptist passed away in 1892 and a friend of Alexander McLaurin.
An unbridled tongue is a sure token of a graceless heart.
Guard your lips for words once spoken can never be recalled.
And many souls have been slain by the sword of the tongue.
I got two more to get to.
verse four the soul of the sluggard desireth and hath nothing but the soul of the diligence shall be made fat
the aramaic pashita the sluggart lust and has nothing but the soul of the diligence shall be made rich
the subtoagent every slothful man desires but the hands of the active are diligent
the sluggard the lazy person desires they have desires they desire to be prosperous they desire to be rich
they desire to have success they desire to have a life of ease they desire to have a nice home
they desire to have a nice car they desire they desire but they refuse to work
Yep
See doc
What this teaches is that the lazy person is not without desire
Oh yeah that's true
That's the message here
The lazy person has desire
But the reason their desires are not fulfilled
Is that they're unwilling to match their desire with labor
Right
Proverbs 2125 says that the desire
of the slothful kills him the desire of the slothful killeth him so there is a desire there yes so the
slothful person craves but is never satisfied because desire without action is vanity it's
stupidity.
Lasiness is self-defeating.
The lazy man or woman wants
and desires but is
unwilling to work. Therefore
he or she has nothing.
Which is what the scripture says.
Shall have nothing.
Look,
this applies spiritually.
The spiritually lazy
man or woman may
desire salvation.
God's grace, holiness, righteousness.
But the lazy man or woman is unwilling to work.
When I say work, I don't mean that they're going to earn their salvation through works,
but they're going to have to put effort into building a relationship with God.
The people that are in morning manna, you're here five days a week for one hour.
You are working at your relationship with God.
You're not lazy.
But the diligent not only desire, but they labor.
And so God blesses both the desire and the labor of the diligent.
King James says, made fat.
That doesn't mean 600 pounds.
It means you're enriched.
You are fully satisfied.
You are abundantly supplied.
And it's not just in material wealth.
It includes spiritual wealth.
It includes health wealth.
You're healthy.
That's wealth.
If you don't think health is wealth, then get really sick and see how your finances do.
You know what, Rick?
and I learned a powerful lesson about that yesterday.
We had a friend over at the house, and a couple months ago,
well, it's been about six, seven months ago,
she had an aneurysm.
And she was telling Mia about it and everything.
And she told Mia that her hospital bill for her aneurysm
ended up at $380,000.
$380,000.
She was in the hospital for eight days.
Eight days.
And it cost her $380,000 worth of the surgery and everything else.
I was just stunned.
I was like $380,000.
It just blew my mind.
But, you know, what are you going to do, not pay it?
Health is wealth.
John Gill passed away 1771 Baptists
the slothful man desires riches honor wisdom knowledge but attains nothing for he will not work
the diligent man is enriched his soul shall be made fat filled with good things temporal and spiritual
Charles Bridges the sluggard desires to have but will not work so he
has nothing. The diligent, not satisfied with desiring, uses the means, and thus the Lord makes
him fat with blessing. Amen. Alexander McLarn passed away 1910 Baptist. The idle dream,
oh, here it is, the idle dream and the diligent do. Wishes without effort are barren. Wishes without effort are
Aaron. The diligent soul is fed and enriched. Robert Horton, Congregational Church of England, passed away in 1934. Desire must be married to effort. The slothful long in vain, the diligent are enriched. Charles Spurgeon, Reformed Baptist. passed away in 1892. Sloth is a curse.
that turns desire into poverty.
Diligence is a blessing that turns desire into wealth.
Better the callous hand with a full soul
than the folded hand with an empty heart.
Doc, how do you think somebody back there in those days went into
Charles Spurgeon's
Reformed Baptist Church office and said
I need the church to pay my bills
and Spurgeon said, do you have a job? No, I don't work.
What do you think Spurgeon said?
Probably said get a job.
Right.
Now, if the person was
working and doing the best and still in need, I'm sure Spurgeon helped.
Right.
Last verse, quickly here, King James, a righteous man, hateeth lying, but a wicked man is loathsome and cometh to shame.
The Aramaic Pashita, a righteous man hates a lying word, but a wicked man is loathsome and will be put to shame,
Septuagint, a righteous man hates an unjust word,
but the ungodly man is ashamed and shall have no confidence.
So hatred of lying is one of the fruits of holiness
because truthfulness reflects God's nature.
A lying reflects Satan's nature.
He is the father lies.
so righteousness loves whatever god loves and hates whatever god hates it's just that simple
lying destroys trust it corrupts relationships and it's in alignment with satan who is the
father of laws according to john eight what is righteousness it is to be in right standing with
God right standing hey you're you're in a vertical position you're you are standing straight
next to God you're in right standing but unrighteousness is to be in standing
standing with Satan
which makes you opposite of God
Amen
the wicked man is loathsome
loathsome means to be repulsive
it means to be corrupt
his or her
lies and deceit and dishonor
make them
shameful before God and people
I see what our commentator said
we'll wrap it up here 12 minutes over
John Calvin the righteous detest lying
for it is opposed to the justice
and equity they pursue
the wicked voided truth fall into shame
and infamy John Wesley
the righteous hate lies
because they are contrary to God and destructive to man.
But the wicked man, full of falsehood, is abominable and shall come to open shame.
William are not lying as hateful to the righteous, for they walk with God, who is truth.
The wicked man feeds upon lies until his very nature is loathsome, and his destiny is shame.
Robert Horton, falsehood is hated by the righteous as darkness by light.
But the wicked, having embraced lies, becomes repulsive and are shamed at last.
And Charles Spurgeon, the godly hate a lie, and this is a sign of grace in them.
But the ungodly, being false at heart, are vile and abhorred, and their end is shame before men and God.
Amen.
Okay.
That's it.
All right.
I've got more. I wanted to go into the contrast between the righteous and the wicked and the foolish,
but we're out of time. We're almost 15 minutes past the hour, so that's it for today. We'll pick up a verse 6 tomorrow.
All right. A couple of announcements before we leave today, of course, Rick's book, Megafire, available at megafire. World. That's megafire.org. Get your copy. And for those in Canada,
the front office here asked me to make an announcement regarding Megafire.
Apparently, the Canadian Post Office is on strike again, and so it may just take a little bit longer to get the book to you if you're a Canadian, you know, viewer and listener, and you ordered the book.
But understand, we'll get it out to you as quickly as we can, but it seems like every time Rick publishes a book, Canada goes on, the Canada Post Office goes on strike.
So I don't know if there's a...
I don't write that many books, though.
I don't know if there's a connection or not, but that's the case.
But it seems like everybody's getting their books and everything.
So even our international viewers are getting their books.
And so very pleased to hear that and not having any issues.
Go to megafire.world to get your copy of Megafire,
the America's next fourth turning crisis.
I want to encourage you to do that today.
