An estimated 1,200 people were seriously wounded today in Lebanon after each person's paging device exploded. It is believed that Israel's Mossad intelligence agency or the IDF coordinated the stunning nationwide cyber attack that resulted in bloodshed, carnage and chaos throughout Lebanon today. I'm Rick Wiles. This is True News for Tuesday, September 17, 2024. Let's begin our
Starting point is 00:01:48 analysis and commentary of today's headlines with this Reuters report about the exploding pagers today in Lebanon. Reuters headline, Hezbollah members wounded in Lebanon when pagers explode. Doc, would you like to go ahead? Yeah. So more than 1,200 people by this latest count, including Hezbollah fighters and medics, were wounded on Tuesday when the pagers they used to communicate exploded across Lebanon, security sources told Reuters. Hezbollah officials, speaking on the condition of anonymity, said the detonation of the pagers was the biggest security breach the group has been subjected to in nearly a year of war with Israel. The Israeli military declined to comment
Starting point is 00:02:36 on Reuters' inquiries about the detonations. Iran's mayor news agency said the Iranian ambassador to Lebanon, Mahjabeh Amani, was injured by one of the blasts. Reuters could not immediately confirm the report, although other outlets have, and we'll get to that in just a moment. The pagers that detonated were the latest model brought in by Hezbollah in recent months, three security sources said. A Reuters journalist saw ambulances rushing through the southern suburbs of Beirut. And a security source said that devices were also exploding in the south of Lebanon. Now, we've got some video here.
Starting point is 00:03:15 Some of it's graphic here. Some of it is very gruesome. I need to warn you. So you're seeing the pagers explode just in ordinary places. This is a market here. And so this was causing, as Rick mentioned earlier, incredible chaos across the country. A major security breach for Hezbollah. And it could happen anywhere, in the market, in the street, at the gas station, wherever it is.
Starting point is 00:03:50 This was a significant strike against Hezbollah without firing a single missile, Rick. They wounded 1,200 people today. Supposedly all, that's a hospital in Beirut, as you see. Hundreds of people brought in to this particular hospital covered in blood, wounded because their pager exploded. I think this next video is going to be the one that's really gruesome and need to prepare you. It's very graphic and you'll see the extent of the wounds that people received today. Here we go. You'll see the extent of the wounds that people received today.
Starting point is 00:04:25 Here we go. This is what I'm talking about. Pretty horrific scenes. Yeah, it's just incredible the damage that's been inflicted. You would not think that a pager would contain enough explosives to create such carnage. But obviously, they can. So, Doc, I mean, we don't know how the Israelis did it. This is bad.
Starting point is 00:04:55 This is very bad. We don't know how the Israelis did it. My first guess is that they had the ability to cause the pager batteries to overheat. That's my guess, that somehow they sent a signal simultaneously to 1,200 pagers had just been brought into Lebanon in the past year. Right. It probably is rarely made. Right. No doubt.
Starting point is 00:05:39 And Hezbollah didn't know that they purchased them from Mossad. So they could have had an explosive device built in. We don't know. I think about decades ago when Monica Lewinsky was in the White House with Bill Clinton, the very first thing that Bill Clinton did after replacing George Herbert Walker Bush is that he ordered new phones to be installed in the White House. That's true, yes. Well, the phones that he bought turned out that they had components inside of them built in Israel. Right.
Starting point is 00:06:17 And Israel listened to every phone call Bill Clinton made. That was back in the 80s. Or was it 90s? Clinton was in the 90s. He was in the 90s, all right? So, the Israelis excel in technology. They are clearly the world's number one murderers when it comes to murdering people, killing, maiming. Nobody can beat the Israelis. I wouldn't want that to be my
Starting point is 00:06:55 people's legacy. We kill better than anybody else. Rise and kill first. That's the motto. Rise and kill first. Others would the motto. Rise and kill first. Now, others would say, hey, these are Lebanese Hezbollah fighters. They deserve what they got. Okay?
Starting point is 00:07:13 I don't know who got wounded today. I have no idea. I just saw human suffering. That's all I saw. I saw people with their parts burned out, faces burned off. The Reuters article mentioned the Iranian ambassador was one of them. This is I-24 News. And they also are reporting Iran's envoy to Lebanon wounded in the Hezbollah device blast.
Starting point is 00:07:52 An Iranian ambassador to Lebanon, Mojaba Malmani, was wounded in this particular attack, according to Iran's mayor agency on Tuesday. So that means he had one, too. And we're going to talk about an Israeli war in Lebanon later in the program. I'm going to go back to it. Right. Because there is definitely a buildup in Israel where Netanyahu wants to invade Lebanon. And we'll talk about that later today. But the question I have on this, Doc, this is the opening shot in the war.
Starting point is 00:08:27 Yes. Israel launched the war today. Right. They're softening up the defenses there. So they had the names and addresses of 1,200 key personnel of Hezbollah. They delivered pagers to them. Yes. Unbeknownst to the Hezbollah members.
Starting point is 00:08:45 They've taken them out of action and they've also caused Hezbollah or Lebanon to use resources now to recover from this, to treat the wounded and everything else. There's a lot of resources now that are invested in that. Well, they've also unleashed unimaginable fear in Hezbollah. Nobody knows what's going to happen next. Is your cell phone going to blow up? Right. What's next? Your car going to blow up?
Starting point is 00:09:14 They don't know. And I guarantee you there are people all over the Arab world who are now wondering, do I have a device on me that is a secret Israeli device and I don't know it? Can they kill me later? This operation was planned years ago. This isn't something that today they said, hey, let's do this today. No, this was planned years ago, and it was kept quiet. It was a top-secret operation.
Starting point is 00:09:47 And they kept it for the day that they were going to launch the war in Lebanon. This was the opening shot. So the question is, is there going to be an Israeli invasion of Lebanon or not? Yes. Yes. This was the beginning of the war. Now, the second part of that question is
Starting point is 00:10:09 how will Hezbollah respond? Will this greatly weaken them in a war with Israel? Or ignite them? Yes, will it ignite them? And how is it affecting the
Starting point is 00:10:25 Iranians? I mean, they just suffered a month or two ago with Israel blowing up a building, a room. Yes. Who was it? The Hamas
Starting point is 00:10:41 political leader was staying there on the day of the inauguration of the new Iranian president. And they blew him up. Okay. So now you have the Iranians looking around. Is my phone going to blow up? And they basically put an Iranian diplomat out of commission in this. So they took out a diplomat today, an ambassador, which is Iran could say this is an act of war.
Starting point is 00:11:14 You just tried to kill our ambassador. That's an act of war. So how will Iran and Hezbollah respond to today's attack? It was an attack. I mean, this wasn't a freak explosion of pagers. This was a well-planned, coordinated cyber attack that deeply wounded at least 1,200 people. It could be a lot more. So how will Hezbollah respond? How will Iran respond?
Starting point is 00:11:47 Are they going to back down in fear? Or are they going to say, if we don't turn loose everything we've got, none of us will survive? Right. Now, this gives me pause today in the sense that if I have any kind of electronic device, I have a potential bomb in my hand. That's right. No matter who I am in the world. Electric cars. Yes. Okay.
Starting point is 00:12:15 They're trying to force everybody into an electric car. What is an electric car? It's a big machine sitting on top of a big battery. Yes. And how many times have we heard about the batteries exploding and burning? Yes. So assassination is very easy now. They don't have to put an assassin on a building to shoot you.
Starting point is 00:12:38 You can just blow up a device that you have. You can blow up your car. This is what I think everybody should think about. Where are we going to be 10 years from now? Right. If this is available now.
Starting point is 00:12:55 If this is the new norm. If this becomes the new norm, what is life like 10 years from now? You criticize Zionism. And they blow up your phone? Right. That's what I mean.
Starting point is 00:13:09 On one day, they could take out 10,000 critics of Zionism in one day. If you speak against, who can make war against the beast? Right. I believe that Zionism is the beast in the book of the revelation of Jesus Christ. I've come to that conclusion.
Starting point is 00:13:31 There's nothing on earth more wicked, more deadly, more antichrist than Zionism. It is antichrist. And it's global in reach. And it's global. And it seeks domination of the world. Who can make war with the beast? So will they wipe out thousands of critics of Zionism in one minute in the days ahead, in the months, years ahead? That's where we're headed.
Starting point is 00:14:02 Because they don't have to come to you now and stalk you. And they don't have to try to poison your food. They don't have to do anything like that now. They already know where you are. Precisely, through your phone. And all they have to do is send a signal to your phone, time to blow up. And it lights out for you. Or they could do a cyber attack in the sense you're in the hospital.
Starting point is 00:14:34 And somebody in another country could manipulate the IV that you're receiving. Oh, oops. He got too much. He died. That's how simple it is now to do this, to do cyber murders, cyber assassinations. it's a wicked world that we're living in now and what about robots what if they send a robot to your house what are you going to do uh when you have when 10 years from now and robots are common in every household and a signal is sent to your personal valet. I go into the bedroom
Starting point is 00:15:08 and choke him to death. Think about that. You're asleep in your bedroom, two o'clock in the morning, and your personal robotic valet comes in and chokes you. Because it just received an assignment
Starting point is 00:15:23 from another country. Sounds weird, but it's very real. We just saw today 1,200 people get blown up from pagers. Okay, we'll get back to this story later. While we're talking about future freaks, this one's a very present freak, none other than Hillary Clinton. And she's back on the topic of, well, this is actually this first one. This is from October 23, right? Okay.
Starting point is 00:16:02 So we're reminding you of what she said because I'm going to show you another video of something new that she said so last year one year ago October 23 mrs. Clinton said you know we're gonna have to we're gonna have to re-educate these Trump supporters. Right. Remember, she said that back in 2016, too. Yeah, but she said they were fun camps. Yeah. Well, she's not funny about it now. Let's watch, and then I'll show you the latest thing she said.
Starting point is 00:16:35 And sadly, so many of those extremists, those mega-extremists, take their marching orders from Donald Trump, who has no credibility left by any measure. He's only in it for himself. He's now defending himself in civil actions and criminal actions. And when do they break with him? You know, because at some point, you know, maybe there needs to be a formal deprogramming of the cult members, but something needs to happen. A formal deprogramming. Formal means mandatory.
Starting point is 00:17:11 Yes. A mandatory deprogramming of the cult members. Now, she appeared on MSNBC and she said that Americans supporting Trump need to be prosecuted. But I also think there are Americans who are engaged in this kind of propaganda. And whether they should be civilly or even in some cases criminally charged is something that would be a better deterrence. Words. Yes,rence. Words. Yes, words. Words that she doesn't like. Words that contradict what she says.
Starting point is 00:17:52 That's right. You have to go to jail because of words she doesn't like. That's it. But Donald Trump is a threat to democracy. Now, Hillary Clinton is a threat to the Constitutional Republic. So let's talk now about the attempted assassination of Mr. Trump. Remember, this is the second for Mr. Trump. Nobody from the Trump side trying to kill any Democrat.
Starting point is 00:18:25 It's Democrats trying to kill Trump. They've tried to put him in prison. That hasn't worked. They've tried to kill him twice. That hasn't worked. I hope he doesn't have a pager. Right. So this New York Post.
Starting point is 00:18:43 The gunman, Ryan Wesley Ruth. Is it Ruth or Ralph? I've heard it pronounced both ways online, and so I've been leaning on the Routh. And, Doc, you pointed out to me Sunday that what gave you the creeps was he uses all three names. Or the media is using all three. Or the media is using all three. Why does that give you the creeps? Because every serial killer, every assassin, they'll do all three names lee harvey oswald right yeah they always do all thomas matthew crooks i mean yeah over and over again it's like
Starting point is 00:19:16 all right that that's the first clue that they're on somebody's radar so and maybe he is. Maybe we'll find out some more about this. So the headline here, of course, is that Ryan Wesley Routh hid in the bushes there at the Trump golf course for 12 hours. He was there for 12 hours. He camped at Mar-a-Lago for 12 hours. Right. So the alleged would-be Trump assassin set up a sniper's nest near the former president's golf course, hid there for 12 hours. Rouse's cell phone pinged to the spot on the edge of Trump International West Palm Beach starting from about 2 a about 1.30 in the afternoon, while Mr. Trump was on the links 300 to 500 yards away on the previous hole. Now, in the sniper's nest, agents found a digital camera, GoPro, two bags, and a loaded SKS-style rifle with its serial number scratched off and unreadable, according to the complaint. SKS rifles are not manufactured in Florida, and the weapon was either brought in from another state or country.
Starting point is 00:20:29 Listen to that. The complaint reads, Moments after the Secret Service agent fired at Ralph, a witness saw the suspect speeding away from the golf course in a Nissan Sport utility vehicle with stolen license plates. It turned out to be from a Ford truck. Yes. So that Nissan with stolen license plates had been sitting there for 12 hours.
Starting point is 00:20:52 Close enough where he could obviously run and get into it. Right. And nobody noticed? Nobody noticed. Nobody noticed the vehicle parked behind Mar-a-Lago. Nobody saw it. Nobody questioned, all right, this is Trump's golf course. There's a Nissan over there.
Starting point is 00:21:09 It's been parking there for 12 hours. I wonder what that's about. Is anybody using, now here's heat sensors. Wouldn't that be an easy way to just scan a fence line? Oh, like with a drone and heat sensors? It's just a heat sensor. See, hey, there's a warm body in there. Could be a homeless person.
Starting point is 00:21:30 Got to go out there and check, make sure it's... Right. You know, somebody could be in medical need, okay? I mean, there's so much technology. They can blow up people by remote with pagers. You're telling me we can't find a guy hiding along a fence line? Of course they can.
Starting point is 00:21:50 So my first question when I read this yesterday is if the shooter was there 12 hours, he arrived at 1.59 a.m., 2 a.m. Yes. He packed a lunch. Packed his lunch. Yeah, one of the bags there hanging on the fence was full of food. Because he knew he was going to be there all day. So if he arrived at roughly 2 a.m. and he was spotted at 1.30 p.m. that day, 12 hours go by.
Starting point is 00:22:26 Only after he stuck a rifle through the fence. Getting ready to shoot the president. This is what came to my mind right away. President Trump doesn't advertise his itinerary. No. doesn't advertise his itinerary. You can't go to the Trump campaign website and see Donald Trump will be in Mar-a-Lago on Sunday. He'll be playing golf at 2 p.m. Right.
Starting point is 00:22:53 And there's a reason for that. They don't want people to know. They don't want anybody to know. But he knew. Doc, he knew. Right. And he drove, apparently, I mean, we still don't know where he came in from, but he knew to arrive 12 hours before Mr. Trump would be on the golf course.
Starting point is 00:23:16 How would he know that? That's a great question. And arriving there that early kind of presupposed he didn't know when Donald Trump would be at the golf course. He could have been there very early in the day. But how did he know? Here's the bottom line. The New York Post said there's a big stinking hole in the shrubbery along the fence line, and they have the photographs to prove it. And not only that,
Starting point is 00:23:47 I mean, this guy didn't go in with a chainsaw and cut out that hole in his shrubs. The New York Post said that opening, and we're talking about something about this spot. All right, from shrubbery here, shrubbery here, and then clear, and you can see straight through on the golf course. And then the New York Post said,
Starting point is 00:24:09 that hole has been there for years, and reporters know about it, and the Secret Service knows about it, and that reporters, when you see photographs of President Trump playing golf at Mar-a-Lago, guess where the photographs are taken? I always assumed that they allowed photographers onto the golf course. playing golf at Mar-a-Lago, guess where the photographs are taken?
Starting point is 00:24:28 I always assumed that they allowed photographers onto the golf course. No, they're going to these hidey holes. They're going to these little hidey holes where everybody knows there's a big hole in the fence line. And the Secret Service knows about it. This has been going on for years. Doc, how many famous, powerful, influential people play golf with President Trump? Billionaires, kings, heads of state.
Starting point is 00:24:51 Right. Everybody knows if you want to see them. Yes. If you want to hang out with the president, you're probably going to. Pack a lunch. Just pack a lunch and go. Bring your golf clubs yes but the secret service has known about it for years yes in fact the article said reporters
Starting point is 00:25:11 often tell the secret service agents hey we're going to be over here at the at the hole taking photographs so it's well known you would think the secret service would have said, we've got to close this up. We can't allow this. This is a clear line of sight into the golf course. But they didn't do it. They didn't plug the hole. Why? If you're Secret Service protecting a president or future or past president or future president, it doesn't occur to you that somebody would go to that opening in the fence line.
Starting point is 00:25:53 Or no one asked the question previous to this. How did those photographers get that picture? But the Secret Service knew because the agent, the photographers would tell the agents, we're going to be over here taking photographs. So it was like a well-known secret among the inner circle. The point I'm making is the Secret Service allowed it to exist for years. And Mr. Trump did, too. To his own detriment. He doesn't take his own security seriously.
Starting point is 00:26:30 He doesn't think that somebody would shoot him on his golf course because he's so much into his golf game. He's not thinking about. And I mean, we shouldn't have to think like this. You should be able to go out on a golf course and play golf and not think about i could get shot out here but he is not a regular person right okay and so they just casually go past that opening in the fence line now number nine this is also new york post secret service admits golf course wasn't searched. See, nobody thought about this, Doc. Hey, the former president's going to go out and play golf. We better hold him up.
Starting point is 00:27:22 Mr. President, you need to stay inside here. We need to search the golf course. Right. Nobody did that. Did it not occur to them? I'm not a trained law enforcement officer. I'm not trained in executive protection. This is so elementary.
Starting point is 00:27:49 Why are we even having these discussions about it you just assume that something so elementary was done like sir you can't go out there we've not checked the golf course yet give us 15 minutes we're going to patrol the golf course hey look what we found there's a there's an SUV. There's a saddlebag with sandwiches in it. There's a gun up against the fence. Oh, my, there's a shooter. Nobody did this. This guy's been camping out there since 1.30, 2 a.m. 2 a.m. And nobody noticed the car. No neighbor next to the golf course said, hey, there's a car that's been parked against the fence line all night.
Starting point is 00:28:35 There's a man sleeping in the woods. Nobody said this. It's weird. But I say it's weird because people have become too casual. They're too accepting. They're not prepared for the unexpected. You know, personally, I'm always looking. I'm one of these guys. I'm aware of what's around me.
Starting point is 00:29:08 I'm always looking. I want to know who's around me. I'm paying attention. I've always done that. I want to know who's in front of me, who's behind me, who's beside me. I'm looking. Okay. I'm taking mental notes.
Starting point is 00:29:23 I'm observing. That's just, I always assumed that was a normal male trait called survival being aware of your being aware of your environment okay but i i'm shocked about how lax a lot of people are about security. You know, I told somebody one time in a parking lot, somebody I knew, okay, and I said, look, you need to put your car window up. You know, this area is not too safe here than this parking lot, okay?
Starting point is 00:30:08 And, oh, no, I know what it was. I said, don't leave anything in the car. I wouldn't leave anything sitting in a car. And they said, no, I locked the car. That doesn't mean anything. And I said, what does that mean? Well, they can't get it. I locked your car. Yeah. The only thing separating you from anything in the car is a quarter inch of glass.
Starting point is 00:30:30 So you don't think a thief wouldn't use a tar iron to knock the glass out? Or he's going to come up, oh, it's locked. Doggone it. I missed out. And it's illegal to break the glass out. Anyhow, I think this is where we're at with people guarding the president. Well, and the comments from that New York Post article kind of reveal some of that in that, first of all, the Secret Service agents didn't sweep the outskirts of Donald Trump's West Palm golf course,
Starting point is 00:30:59 where the would-be assassin was hiding because the former president's visit was an off-the-record plan. And that's coming from the agency's acting director. Okay, right there, look at this. Because Donald Trump's visit was an off-the-record plan. Nobody knew he was coming. Except Ryan Wesley Ruth. Yes, who camped out with sandwiches waiting on the president. How did he know?
Starting point is 00:31:30 How did he know? Ruth allegedly set up a sniper's nest on the edge of Trump International West Palm Beach golf course, hid there for 12 hours. hours uh acting secret service head ronald rowe jr said monday the agents didn't mount an intense search of the perimeter because the 45th president's round wasn't on his official calendar what the president wasn't even really supposed to go there it was not on his official schedule row told reporters as he defended the security measures in place okay so are they blaming donald trump for this yes so um first of all i there's a lot of – let's put that back up on the screen, okay? The acting Secret Service chief, Ronald Rowe, said the Secret Service did not search the parameter of the golf course because Mr. Trump's golf game wasn't on the official calendar. It was on his unofficial calendar.
Starting point is 00:32:32 What else do you need to say? Donald Trump said, I'm going out on the golf course. Mr. President, you can't go yet. We haven't done a perimeter search. We didn't know you were going to play golf. You have to wait here. Give us an hour, two hours, however long it should take. That's right.
Starting point is 00:32:53 So whether it was on his official calendar or unofficial calendar, who cares? It doesn't matter. If the president opens up the door of the White House and says, you know what, I'm going to take a walk down Constitution Avenue, do they allow him to do that? He's the president. He can do that. Right. But do they scurry? Do they go into action right away?
Starting point is 00:33:18 Yeah, because he's on the move. Right. the move. Okay, so if Donald Trump's on the move on his own golf course, then common sense says that they would have said to him, please wait here in the clubhouse until we get out there and search the property for you. Remember, Mr. President, somebody tried to shoot you last month. Give us time. You've got plenty of time to play golf. Okay, let's go search. But the other thing that he said here. Yes, this is the line that's the kicker here. And so we put together a security plan. And that security plan worked.
Starting point is 00:33:51 All right, so this was their plan. They're going to let Donald Trump play golf, but we're going to be one hole ahead. We're going to check out the hole ahead of him to see if there's any potential dangers. The guy had a scope. We all had a scope on the gun. Look, we're way past. Anybody in the military knows we're way past the day that even somebody that you even need a scope.
Starting point is 00:34:21 I'm talking about that you need to be 300 to 500 yards away from a target. We've got military snipers that can take something out a mile away. Easily, yes. There are buildings in West Palm, in Palm Beach around Mar-a-Lago, that if you were on that building, you could be aiming down at the golf course
Starting point is 00:34:44 if you were a sniper. But there's another line in that article. The president wasn't even really supposed to go there. It was not on his official schedule. Once again, I ask the question, if the Secret Service did not know on Sunday that President Trump was even going to be at Mar-a-Lago and that he was going to play golf, how did Wesley, Ryan Wesley Ralph, know that he was going to be there? There's only, Doc? There's only two explanations. Either he is the luckiest assassin in the world, or I guess unlucky because he didn't complete his assignment. He just, I'm just going to camp out
Starting point is 00:35:33 at the golf course. Might be my day. Yeah, this might be it. I'll pack a lunch and I'll sit out here for 12 hours in the bushes. And nobody disturbed him. Right. Or or his car no one towed his car option two is what or he's in cahoots with somebody somebody so close to donald trump think about it doc this isn't a quick this isn't a case of uh you know a bartender calls Ruth and goes, hey, you want to get him? He's going out to the golf course right now. Okay, I'll drive a thousand miles. I'll get there soon. No, it didn't work like that.
Starting point is 00:36:18 This guy was there a half day in advance. Yes. He was tipped off a half day or more by somebody, and that somebody must be somebody so close to Donald Trump that President Trump can't even imagine there's a Judas
Starting point is 00:36:38 next to him. A Judas. President Trump has a Judas. Right. Okay? That's what I want to get across to you today. My view is Donald Trump has a Judas who is so close to him that it would shock you. You would be stunned when you find out who it is. Somebody so close inside his inner circle
Starting point is 00:37:06 that knows things even before the Secret Service. It means Donald Trump casually said to somebody in his closest inner circle, I'm going to go to Mar-a-Lago. I'm going to play golf Sunday afternoon. Because he flew in. So they knew he was coming into town because he came in, I guess, on Saturday. I don't know if he landed Sunday morning.
Starting point is 00:37:35 That's something we need to look at. But he flew in to West Palm Beach Airport, PBI. Somebody close to him heard Donald Trump say, I'm going to play golf on Sunday. And Steve Whitcough is going to be with me. Right. Okay. And apparently Sean Hannity was also invited to play golf. And didn't go.
Starting point is 00:38:02 Right. But Whitcough is a wealthy Jewish real estate investor. Now, did he tell somebody casually, hey, keep this secret. Donald Trump invited me to meet him in, well, I think Wyckoff is in Palm Beach. I think so. I think he is in Palm Beach. I think so. I think he is in Palm Beach. But the point I'm making is the information came from inside a very tight inner circle. Or somebody has his communications bugged.
Starting point is 00:38:43 Right. His phone. That Mr. Trump can't speak anything. His aircraft. Is his aircraft bugged? Is his bedroom bugged? Remember, the FBI was in his bedroom. That's true.
Starting point is 00:39:00 Do you remember that? Yes. The FBI was in his bedroom. Staging documents. And maybe listening devices. Look, the FBI is prosecuting Donald Trump, and you want us to believe you're going to investigate him? Investigate the attempted killing? This stinks so bad.
Starting point is 00:39:24 And then there was a mysterious remark that the acting director of Secret Service made. Oh, yeah. Wait till you hear this one. And this is spooky what he said. Why don't we just play it and then Rick and I will comment on it here. There could be another geopolitical event that could put the United States into a kinetic conflict or some other issue that may result in additional responsibilities and protectees of the United States Secret Service. What? A geopolitical event. Kinetic? Listen again to every single word the acting Secret Service chief said. There could be another geopolitical event that could put the United States into a kinetic conflict or some other issue that may result in additional responsibilities and protectees of the United States Secret Service.
Starting point is 00:40:25 You mean like a war? Or a terrorist attack? Right. A geopolitical event. Are we being given a peek behind the curtain right now? That there's something coming down? Well, that's what that sounded like to me. Like, hey, October's coming.
Starting point is 00:40:45 We've got an October surprise. There's going to be a geopolitical event that's going to put America in a kinetic position. Is that how you said it? Yes. That's going to require additional measures to protect the candidates. You mean that they're going to be locked down? All right. So what additional measures?
Starting point is 00:41:08 Yeah, that's the only thing that's left. What if you lock down the candidates? What if the Secret Service locks down Mr. Trump and says we cannot allow you to go out and campaign? Oh, and then Kamala too. She can't go out and campaign either. They'd have to lock her down. It worked for Joe Biden back in 2020. He was
Starting point is 00:41:25 locked down in a basement. Unless the kinetic event is it's a plan to kill Mr. Trump and they've got to lock him down for his safety. I don't put anything past these people. Or to hold him as a target. I don't put anything past the federal government. Well, right now, I can't trust what the Secret Service says because they let a 20-year-old get off a shot at the president here a month and a half ago, and then they got some loon. If he was the one who did it, there could have been somebody on the water tower. That's right. And there was some loon hiding behind a fence at the golf course for 12 hours. There was a witness, more than one witness at Butler who mentioned a shooter on the water tower. And that story went away.
Starting point is 00:42:08 So was Crooks, was he just the Patsy, the MK Ultra Patsy that they brought out there? The Stooge? They always have a Stooge. And the real snipers are somewhere else. I want to go through some things pretty quickly here. I've only got 12 minutes. Number 12, New York Post. Trump golf club workers questioned by feds about whether they told friends the ex-president would be there.
Starting point is 00:42:52 No need to go into this it just says that the federal agents question employees of mar-a-lago and ask them if um uh or this was the the trump international golf course if um if they told anybody that mr trump was playing golf so then we get to um wall street journal u.s authorities were warned about suspected trump gunman there it is doc he was on the radar doc i'm shocked rick he was on the radar they knew about this guy but he slipped through it's just another one of these cases where they had him on the radar, and then he just disappeared. They're wily, these guys. But I think we're going to have to save this maybe for tomorrow to go over the details. I want to go to number 14. Man, I got a lot of New York Post in here today uh sean diddy combs uh arrested charged with sex trafficking racketeering
Starting point is 00:43:49 conspiracy in bombshell charges unsealed in in new york court um this this one's going to be interesting doc uh i want to see what comes out of this. I think this has the potential to bring in a lot of unexpected big names and celebrities. Yeah, because he was well-connected across several different communities, let's call it that. So the music industry, the movie industry, even the church. Yes, was he another kind of Jeffrey Epstein type of operation? Well, that's yet to be seen here, but it sure has all the earmarks of it. I want to go back to March of 24. This is Christian Post.
Starting point is 00:44:42 T.D. Jake's relationship with Diddy under scrutiny again in wake of the raid and lawsuits. I'm not going to say anything about it. I've been told a lot of rumors. I'm not going to traffic in rumors because they're just rumors. Right. It did make it to the Christian Post. There's a lot of stuff stirring. And if you go on YouTube and various social media, there are people out there who claim that they know something about T.D. Jakes and Sean Diddy Combs.
Starting point is 00:45:07 But I'm just saying this has the potential of exploding with a lot of names that people wouldn't expect to be caught up into a sex trafficking scandal. Right. You ever seen the T-shirts, I Love New York? Yes. Well, you should get a new one, Rick. China loves New York. Oh, absolutely.
Starting point is 00:45:32 This story is exploding all over the place here. New FDN Fire Department New York chiefs ties to China emerge amid federal probe into foreign influence on New York officials. Does China basically own on New York officials. Does China basically own a New York City government? Sure. Hey, and Eric Adams, chief legal counsel at City Hall, resigned. Oh, did he do that? Yes.
Starting point is 00:45:54 And so this— Is he implicated also? She is. Well, she's not implicated, but for some reason she resigned, walked away. But in this story here, the fire department's new chief's ties to China are coming to light against the backdrop of an extensive federal investigation into foreign influence on the city's officials. It goes into detail here in the New York Post article about how the chief here had previously had his own security and surveillance firm
Starting point is 00:46:24 with a billionaire Chinese person that had ties to Beijing. So we can go into a lot of detail about it. But there is a sweeping probe going across basically all of Eric Adams' cabinet in New York. This is in pictures. This is number 17 showing the chief and his assistant. Well, Doug, this was Miles Guo. Yeah, yes. That's Miles Guo in the center there.
Starting point is 00:46:48 Yes. You talk about those two guys. Are they the epitome of being kiss-ups? Well, in this particular— But that's Miles Guo in the center. Remember the billionaire who was financing Steve Bannon? That's him. And, you know, I had people a couple years ago sending me messages saying, Rick, don't get connected to this Miles Guo guy.
Starting point is 00:47:16 This guy is a Chinese double agent. I don't know if he is or not. But, you know, people were telling me, don't trust him. He's a Chinese double agent. Anyhow, it looks like the entire government of New York City is in the hip pocket of Xi Jinping. Want to get into World War III news. Newsweek explosions rock Russian air base hosting Putin nuclear bombers. This is a Newsweek story.
Starting point is 00:47:49 Some Ukrainian reports said those were drone attacks that hit today, something like 500 miles southeast of Moscow. But this is a base that has a nuclear bombers park there, the TU-95, the TU-160 strategic bombers. Telegraph. Ignore fascist Putin's nuclear threat over storm shadow deployment, says Lammy. Well, who is Lammy?
Starting point is 00:48:25 Lammy is David Lammy, the new minister of defense in Great Britain. And I want you to, I'm going to show you the video because this illustrates the delusional thinking of Western leaders. Like, hey, we've been taunting Putin, and he's been threatening us. Forever, yes. And he's never carried out one threat, and we're going to continue to taunt him and don't believe this stuff that he's going to use nuclear weapons. It's all a big bluff. That's the way these people are thinking. Here is David Lammy, and he was on Sky News on Sunday.
Starting point is 00:49:07 I'm just putting to you what Mr. Zelensky has been saying publicly, which is that the longer you delay, the more Ukrainians die. And by the way, he's got an ally. Let me put it to you. He's got an ally in this point of view, a person who should know. Here's what Vladimir Putin says. He says, if you acceded to his request, that actually we would be participating in the war and that we would actually be drawn into this. Now, Putin's very clear about this. It matters.
Starting point is 00:49:39 Zelensky says it matters. And every time you wait, as Putin himself says, it appears that West is ready to fight this to the last Ukrainian. So let me just ask you, without going into security details, what is the problem? It's a serious question and it requires a serious answer. Since coming in as Prime Minister, Keir Starmer has pledged £3 billion in aid to Ukraine that they can use for military use. That is more money speeded up. They have asked for further missiles. We have provided them. We are in discussion with them
Starting point is 00:50:25 about ensuring that they get through the winter in the strongest of position. As for Putin, Putin said... But they're not going to get through the winter if they're being rained down. Putin, Trevor, Putin said... Russian missiles from Iran raining down on them from Russian bases. Putin said don't send tanks. We sent them. Putin said don't send any missiles. We sent them. Putin threatens every few months to use nuclear weapons. It's totally unaccepted. We won't be bullied by Putin's
Starting point is 00:50:54 shameless, shameless grandstanding. What he should now do is cease his aggression and leave Ukraine. That's what he should do. Doc, these guys honestly believe Putin will not nuke us. Yes. We're at risk of dying because of their stupidity.
Starting point is 00:51:17 You're right, Rick. David Lammy there just said, we've escalated all along here. Putin hasn't done anything. So we're just going to continue to escalate. It's the message I got. I'm going to tell you something. If there's a guy waving a loaded.45 at my face, I'm backing away. Or even the fact I know he has a loaded.45, not even waving it.
Starting point is 00:51:41 Right. But when he's waving it, I'm backing away because I'm thinking, you know what? He's probably going to use it in the heat of the moment. He's just going to point the gun at me and pull the trigger. Right. Okay. These guys don't believe it. They really are delusional.
Starting point is 00:51:59 They think that they can push Putin and he will back down. And they have clearly said they're not going to back down. Times of London. This is on Sunday. Five ex-defense secretaries of Great Britain tell the prime minister, let Ukraine fire our missiles. I mean, the full court press is on. Yes. Five former defense secretaries and an ex-prime minister have urged Prime Minister Keir Starmer to allow Ukraine to use its long-range storm shadow missiles to strike inside
Starting point is 00:52:34 Russia. Those officials are Grant Shapps, Ben Wallace, Gavin Williamson, Penny Mordaunt, Lam Fox, and Boris Johnson. And this article goes on to quote each one of these former officials as saying that Britain cannot— Let's do it. Let's do it. Yeah, we don't even need the U.S. permission. Let's just do it on our own. Doc, I think that's the decision that was made Friday between Mr. Biden and Mr. Starmer.
Starting point is 00:53:09 I think Mr. Biden said, officially, I can't give you permission to do it, but if you do it on your own, I can't stop you. Right. And this is all orchestrated. And this is their way of saying we're moving ahead.
Starting point is 00:53:21 We're going to go ahead and do it. And Biden can say, I advised him not to do it, but they went ahead and they carried it out anyhow. RT, Russia had reasons to use nukes but showed restraint, says Medvedev. But Medvedev said it's foolish to think that Russia is always going to show patience. He said eventually their patience will run out. Medvedev also said that a nuke strike on Ukraine would turn Kiev into a gray spot on the map. Just bluff. Just bluff?
Starting point is 00:54:06 Just big talk? Well, if you believe the Western leaders, yeah. This is just, they're just blowing air, Rick. Doc, this next one. Last week, I didn't say it on the program, but I was thinking it. Russia may have shared nuclear secrets with Iran in exchange for missiles. I was going to say this to you last week. The next thing that we're going to hear is Russia has paid for Iranian missiles with a nuclear warhead.
Starting point is 00:54:38 There's where they're taking us. that the exchange between Russia and Iran, Russia gets X many missiles. In return, Iran gets nuclear warheads. And now they have the justification to attack both countries. So I wasn't surprised that appeared in the telegraph in the past few days. Tomorrow we'll tell you about Sergey Shigou, the former defense minister, had a meeting with Kim Jong-un in North Korea, talking about World War III. Hey, we got to go.

Starting point is 00:56:44 Good morning, everybody. Welcome to Morning Manna. My name is Rick Wiles, and my co-teacher is Dr. Burkhart, and we are delighted to have you with us today. We are beginning chapter 23 in the Gospel according to St. Matthew, and we're going to be looking at verses 1 through 12 let's pray begin our Bible study father this is a wonderful day and we praise you for it we praise you for life we thank you for life father and we give you glory and honor and Thanksgiving for all the good things that you do for us father every single day we wake up, Father, we're alive.
Starting point is 00:57:27 And that is a blessing. Thank you so much. Father, we ask for the Holy Spirit's presence to guide and lead and direct us in the study of your word. Take charge of this morning manna Bible study and bring forth truth and revelation. In the name of Jesus. Amen. Amen. So if you have your Bibles this morning, we are starting in Matthew chapter 23.
Starting point is 00:57:52 And as I've mentioned over the past couple of weeks, Matthew 21 through 23 is the prelude for us to really understand Matthew 24 and 25. Everybody's focus seems to be on those chapters without the lead up here. We are in the woe chapter today. And so when you see that word woe, Jesus is declaring the end of Judaism here. And so let's read chapter 23. If you've got your Bibles, I'm reading from the King James. Then spake Jesus to the multitude and to his disciples, saying,
Starting point is 00:58:23 The scribes and the Pharisees sit in Moses' seat. All therefore whatsoever they bid you observe, that observe and do. But do not ye after their works, for they say and do not. For they bind heavy burdens and grievous to be borne, and lay them on men's shoulders, but they themselves will not move them with one of their fingers but all their works they do for to be seen of men that they may broad their phylacteries and enlarge the borders of their garments and love the uppermost rooms feast and the cheap seats in the synagogues and greetings in the market and to be called a men rabbi rabbi but be not called rabbi for one is your master even Christ and all year
Starting point is 00:59:11 brethren and code call no man your father upon the earth for one is your father which is in heaven neither be you called masters for one is your master even Christ but he that is greatest among you shall be your servant, and whosoever shall exalt himself shall be abased, and he that shall humble himself shall be exalted. That's Matthew chapter 23, verses 1 through 12 this morning. Amen. Praise God. Verse 1,
Starting point is 00:59:43 Then Jesus spoke to the multitudes and to his disciples as Doc said chapter 23 is the chapter of woes in this chapter we will read that Jesus launched a direct and decisive
Starting point is 00:59:58 attack on Jerusalem's religious rulers after silencing them with previous arguments. This attack is a series of denunciations that extend throughout Matthew 23, delivered on the eve of his death. Verse 1 begins with, Then. It indicates a transition in the narrative in chapter 22. Verse 1 begins with then.
Starting point is 01:00:32 It indicates a transition in the narrative in chapter 22, a shift in focus or action. As I said, he had silenced his adversaries. Then he proceeded to address the crowd and his disciples. After he shut the mouths of the Pharisees, then he began this next sermon. And the timing of the sermon, as I said, followed the confrontation with the Jewish rulers. And the use of the word then implies that this was a strategic intentional timing by Jesus. Yes. To capitalize on the moment's significance by reinforcing his previous points made to the Jewish leaders. leaders he waited for this moment and instinctively he knew now's the time
Starting point is 01:01:29 this is when I say what I've been wanting to say for a long time so the the scene includes obviously Jesus and his disciples in the foreground the multitudes the crowds nearby and the Pharisees and the multitudes, the crowds nearby, and the Pharisees and the high priests and the elders and the scribes and the Sadducees and so forth, somewhere in the background, within hearing range, because they had withdrawn from their encounter with Jesus, but they were still there.
Starting point is 01:02:04 They could still hear his voice. So Jesus addressed the multitude, speaking to the common people gathered around him in the temple. And his message was, beware the hypocrisy of the Jewish leaders. So this sermon, this discourse, is structured to address different audiences, the crowds, the multitude, the disciples, and the religious rulers. His words left no doubt whatsoever
Starting point is 01:02:45 who was the intended target the Jewish rulers now in the sermon Jesus sought to maintain reverence for the authority of God's word amidst an age of corruption. Right. And his warning was necessary because the Jewish people
Starting point is 01:03:21 were tempted to reject the law of Moses because of the hypocrisy of the religious rulers. So the rulers, the Jewish elite, were driven by ambition, pride, and they had corrupted the purity of the law through their false interpretations their oppressive rules and their hypocritical behavior yes so jesus So Jesus sharply exposed their wickedness and gave the people His rules. So we go to verse 2, saying, The scribes and the Pharisees sit on Moses' seat. So Jesus' mention of Moses' seat. What is Moses' seat? seat it it pertained to the Jewish tradition of sitting while expounding on
Starting point is 01:04:51 the scriptures right the reference to sitting while teaching was a customary practice among the Jewish rulers. And we see it even with Jesus. Matthew 5, verse 1. And seeing the multitudes, he went up into a mountain, and when he was set, his disciples came unto him. Jesus taught the Sermon on the Mount, the Beatitudes, sitting down. Right. Luke 4, verses 20-22.
Starting point is 01:05:37 And he closed the book and he gave it again to the minister and sat down. And the eyes of all them that were in the synagogue were fastened on him. And he began to say unto them, This day is this scripture fulfilled in your ears and all bear him witness and wondered at the gracious words which proceeded out of his mouth see he closed the book and he sat down yes the sitting down conveyed the image of spiritual authority. Sit in Moses' seat signified a position of authority to teach the law. It wasn't that there was a chair that belonged to Moses.
Starting point is 01:06:23 That's not what it means. It means that they are. Symbolically. Seated. In the authority of Moses. That they were claiming. Equal authority as Moses. In interpreting and teaching the law.
Starting point is 01:06:51 Not that they were successors to Moses as a legislator writing the law, but as those who expounded on his teachings. The scribes and the Pharisees again, held this position as sitting in Moses' seat interpreting and applying the Mosaic law within Judea and so it indicates a continuity of authority
Starting point is 01:07:23 from Moses to the scribes and Pharisees it it indicates a continuity of authority from moses to the scribes and pharisees at the time that jesus was on the earth now this is important because jesus acknowledged the position of authority that's right he didn't deny it. He recognized them. And said, yes, you are the rightful occupiers of the seat of Moses. You're expanding the law. You're encouraging following the law. I mean, so Jesus is recognizing this here.
Starting point is 01:08:02 So it's not a condemnation of what they their authority but how they use that authority he wasn't an election denier he wasn't saying you got there you got into that seat through false means you rigged the ele that's not what he was saying he never accused them of being usurpers or imposors he accused them of being hypocrites right he recognized them as the rightful inheritors of the weighty position of sitting in moses's seat now no one single individual held a position they shared the authority through their membership in the sanhedrin thus the sanhedrin as a body claimed to be the authoritative interpreters of the law they took a vote in the Sanhedrin. The members argued and debated
Starting point is 01:09:13 the law, and then they came to a consensus. Think of it as the Supreme Court of Judaism whatever they say that's it it can't go any higher they the the Sanhedrin has ruled there's no appeals court above them so they held that position. And Jesus said, you know, you rightfully are in that position. You have inherited that very important role. So he never denied their legitimacy. Right. He denied their, he rebuked their hypocrisy right because in verse 3 we find out he tells them what they've been teaching you is correct what they've been doing is incorrect but what they've been teaching you is the
Starting point is 01:10:22 right thing there's no question I'm not fighting what they've taught i am saying they're not living out what they ought right so while they had corrupted the law with their own interpretations and traditions they still maintain a position of authority in teaching the law to the people. Again, I'm just using the example of our nation's Supreme Court. It's constitutional. The men and women who were on that court were placed there legally through the Constitution by the nomination of the president and the ratification of the Senate. They are rightfully judges. But are they interpreting the Constitution the way the founding fathers wrote the Constitution?
Starting point is 01:11:31 The answer for me is no, they have corrupted the Constitution. So what Jesus is saying to these Jewish rulers is, I'm not arguing that you guys are rightfully in the position of Moses' seat. What I'm saying is you have corrupted the law of Moses. So despite their flaws, the people were still instructed to heed their teachings. insofar as they align with the law, until the full revelation of the law's fulfillment in Christ. So now we get to verse 3. All therefore whatsoever they bid you to observe, that observe and do but do not e after their works for they say and do not modern english all things therefore whatever they tell you to do observe it
Starting point is 01:12:36 observe and do but don't do their works for they say and they don't do do this phrase all therefore whatsoever Jesus began by acknowledging the authority of the Pharisees and the and the teachers of all instructing the people to follow their teachings when those teachings were in alignment with the law of Moses. Just in case, I can't believe that there would be any Christian Zionists still hanging around here with us that still are clinging to Christian Zionism. But please do not interpret this as me saying that
Starting point is 01:13:33 the modern day Sanhedrin still have that authority. They don't. Jesus was saying at that time, remember this is before the cross, before the resurrection, before the ascension, before Pentecost. Jesus was saying to the Jews,
Starting point is 01:14:02 as of right now, you are still obligated to obey them when their teachings are in alignment with the law of Moses Jesus never abolished the law is still there but it's fulfilled in Christ and we don't have to keep all those little rules that the Jews had to keep we place our faith in Jesus Christ who fulfilled the law
Starting point is 01:14:40 but this term, therefore, is significant because it indicates that obedience is limited to what these religious leaders teach or taught from the law itself. The phrase means that obedience is expected, required for teachings consistent with the law and the prophets. Right. And especially from those who teach it. Yes. Whatsoever they bid you to observe that observe and do again Jesus told the Jews whatever they tell you to do if it's in alignment with the laws of Moses then do it it applied for that time but do not be after their works
Starting point is 01:15:47 for they say and do not Jesus did not endorse blind obedience to all the traditions and teachings of the Pharisees but rather only to those teachings rooted in the law of Moses so he
Starting point is 01:16:09 qualified this instruction to observe and do by pointing out that the Pharisees and teachers often failed to live up to the very standards that they taught. He's saying that their actions contradict their teachings. Two sets of rules. One for themselves, one for others. They preached one thing, they lived another thing but in public oh they looked pretty and smelled pretty they were religious in public but not in private but Jesus sees sees and discerns the heart
Starting point is 01:17:13 so while the scribes and the pharisees may teach the right things their failure to practice the right things ren rendered their example as hypocritical yes this this discrepancy between the teachings and the actions of the Jewish rulers was a barrier to the acceptance of God's will among the people in other words people were stumbling over their hypocrisy yes what Jesus was saying was there are people here who are not obeying Moses because of your hypocrisy they would obey they would keep the law if you were not so hypocritical right and then later on in this chapter jesus in one of the woes says your hypocrisy is keeping people from the kingdom of heaven yes you're you're not able to enter in because of your hypocrisy but your hypocrisy is also causing others not to be able to enter in as well
Starting point is 01:18:26 yeah that's really scary that's very scary when um it's one thing to be uh a hypocrite uh and endanger your own soul but when your hypocrisy leads others to fall away from the faith or never come to the faith, then that is a scary reality of what's going to happen to you on Judgment Day. Verse 4. Verse 4. For they bind heavy burdens that are grievous
Starting point is 01:19:10 to be borne and lay them on men's shoulders but they themselves will not lift a finger to help them. So Jesus criticized the Pharisees for burdening the people with heavy loads called them heavy burdens these burdens these loads were like putting cargo Cargo, heavy cargo on animals like pack mules or camels, donkeys, putting extremely heavy bags and cargo on those animals that force the animal to struggle to carry the load.
Starting point is 01:20:06 That's the image he's creating. You're weighing down the people with your rules and you don't do anything to help them. He's talking about the ceremonies and the rites and rituals and traditions that the Pharisees and others had invented. Yes. It wasn't in the writings of Moses. They came up with these ideas, the rabbis. And so these burdens were numerous they were expensive they were laborious
Starting point is 01:20:52 and they were mandatory and the pharisees strictly enforced compliance with these rules and demanded that the people obey them rigorously. However, the Pharisees themselves did not bear the same burdens they imposed on others. So, the burdens are described as difficult to bear. And again, that implies oppressive if you if you put bags and cargo on an animal it can carry weight but you put so much on that animal that you're practically crushing that animal. Yes. Then you are inhumane. You're cruel.
Starting point is 01:21:53 Knowing that the animal can't carry that much weight. And so that's what the Pharisees were doing to the people. Right. They were loading them with so many religious rules that the people couldn't carry them. And then they have a guilt complex. I'm failing. I can't keep the law.
Starting point is 01:22:15 And now they're getting farther and farther away from God because they feel guilty when God never placed those rules on them. So these heavy burdens were oppressive. And the Pharisees enforced these heavy burden rules with strictness and severity. And they imposed fines and penalties.
Starting point is 01:22:44 You know, an example, the Sabbath. And they impose fines and penalties. You know, an example, the Sabbath. They took something that God meant to be pleasurable, resting in him for a day. And they wrote so many rules that Jews, even to this day, count how many steps that they take on the Sabbath. And they even go so far, Rick, that they'll unplug their refrigerator. So the refrigerator is not working. This is a more extreme Sabbath observant Jews. They'll, you know, they will not let their appliances do any work so no cooking refrigerator can't run they'll shut off the AC in their house because God's
Starting point is 01:23:36 really going to be impressed with you sweating on Sunday this is where it takes you the men to somehow impress god with your observance of the law and then enforcing that on others as well you know that word bind there only occurs twice in the new testament the other time it's used by paul where it talks about remember back when i used to put people in chains and bring them to jail that was me so this binding is not just you know well i've got a little rope around me no these are chains i've bound myself and changed to a a heavy burden not not a burden that uh you know you can just carry in your hand but one that requires a pack animal it's the same word burden that Jesus say take my yoke upon me for my burden is light the very same word so there's significance here in this verse and what what he's saying the Pharisees they dump all this stuff on you but they themselves don't follow it and they would not lift a finger it says with one of their fingers it means a complete lack assistance any relief so there was a shameless inconsistency of the Jewish
Starting point is 01:25:12 rulers who demanded strict adherence to laws that they themselves would not it's an outward show adherence to legalistic rules rather than genuine love of God and compassion for people you know it's a warning for us in this day
Starting point is 01:25:46 against religious legalism I'm sure all of us have bumped into religious legalism at some point some place in our Christian walk I mean I certainly have I've encountered churches that were very
Starting point is 01:26:01 legalistic and I learned to get away from them. I learned to spot them. And I, you know, I don't go near them. I'm not going to condemn them. If that's the rules they want to set and live by, go for it. But don't set those rules on me.
Starting point is 01:26:23 Because you don't have the authority to put those rules on me. I'm talking about the way you dress, the way you comb your hair, all the various little legalistic rules. If you want to live that way, you do it. But it's legalism. And what I have observed in my lifetime is that people who go to extremely legalistic Christian churches end up producing very dysfunctional children.
Starting point is 01:27:03 That's the pattern I've seen in my life. That the children rebel against the hypocrisy. The children see the hypocrisy as they grow up. And they know that mom and dad is doing one thing in public at church and live a different way at home. Or they enforce these rules at home to the point of making life unbearable. And you end up with young men and women who run away from the church. They're not running away from Christ, they're not running away from Christ they're running away from legalism I think about well you know when I was a young Christian there was a there was a famous preacher on television of, there were a lot at that time. I'm just saying one particular one who had a very large following.
Starting point is 01:28:11 And, Doc, I remember when I was a young Christian, you know, I would say I was in my late 20s, early 30s, and he would rant and rail against going to baseball games. I can still hear this man on TV saying that when you are in a baseball stadium, you are consorting with spirits. And I love baseball. And I'm like, I can't go to baseball games anymore. I'm sinning if I go to a baseball game. You know, I lived in Maryland that time. You mean I can't go down to the Baltimore Orioles and watch the Orioles play baseball?
Starting point is 01:29:11 And so, Doc, I had this guiltiness on me if I went to a baseball game. Am I not spiritual? Well, then the news came out that he was caught chasing prostitutes. He was doing more than chasing them. He caught them. And I thought, you dirty scoundrel. You put a religious guilt trip on me for going to a baseball game.
Starting point is 01:29:50 All I was doing was eating a hot dog and watching baseball. And while I'm sitting there with this guilt complex that maybe I'm sinning, you were really sinning by being with a prostitute. Well, Rick, I know the preacher you're talking about. Yes. And I had an uncle who also loved baseball. He was a Kansas City Royals fan. He still is.
Starting point is 01:30:20 He's still alive today. This was a time that my aunt had given her life to the Lord and she was really trying to get her my uncle to go to church with her and everything he but he was raised Catholic and everything didn't want to go with her to this crazy Pentecostal church but she watched this particular preacher that you're talking about on a regular basis he was very popular at that time late 80s early 90s and uh you know he talked about baseball and everything instead of you know that ended up causing him to reject not just that particular preacher but all preachers really yes so yeah i mean yeah he he for years resisted the church and everything over that very issue.
Starting point is 01:31:11 Yes. So there's a soul that was separated from God because of a hypocrite's teaching and behavior. Right. That's what and behavior. Right. That's what I'm talking about. This is what Jesus is saying to the Jewish people. Don't let these hypocrites keep you from obeying God. The rules that they give you that are right, you are obligated to keep them and you're you can't disobey those
Starting point is 01:31:49 rules because they don't keep them you're still obligated to keep them but he was saying to the pharisees you're keeping people away from my father. Your behavior, your pride and your hypocrisy is keeping people from my father. They're not even coming to the temple anymore because you've made them feel like they're dirty sinners. Think about
Starting point is 01:32:24 the heavy burdens that the Pharisees and scribes and Sadducees put on people compared to the burden that Jesus put on people and still puts on people today Matthew 11 verse 29 and 30 take my yoke upon you
Starting point is 01:32:47 and learn of me for I am meek and lowly in heart and you shall find rest unto your souls for my yoke is easy and my burden is light just the opposite their burden was hard their yoke was hard and their burden was heavy Jesus said you come to me my my yoke is easy my burden is light you know why it's light? Because He does all the carrying.
Starting point is 01:33:26 That's right. All you have to do is walk beside Him. He's carrying the heavy load. He carried the heavy load on the cross. You don't have to carry that load. He did it for you. He fulfilled all of the law for you on the cross all you have to do is walk beside him remember yoke you got two oxen yes you don't need a yoke if you just have one
Starting point is 01:33:59 you need a yoke for two the the heavy burden is on one oxen and in this case I'm talking about in the Christian walk imagine one ox has to carry all of the load the yoke is heavy the burden is heavy and the other ox is like man this is awesome this is easy I'm just walking see that's what Jesus does for us he fulfilled the law he says just walk beside me don't stray from me stay right beside me my yoke is easy my burden is light I'm doing all the work for you verse 5 but all their works they do for to be seen of men they make broad their phylacteries and enlarge the borders of their garments so the Pharisees actions were motivated by the desire for recognition
Starting point is 01:35:12 and praise from other people instead of a genuine devotion to God they wore uh... phylacteries. The Orthodox Jews still wear them today. A phylactery. It was a strip of parchment containing pieces of paper with the scriptures on them. Right. And they would wear it on their forehead
Starting point is 01:35:49 or their arm or their side. Originally, the phylacteries were intended to symbolize the importance of keeping God's commandments close to your heart and mind. And it was based on instructions in Exodus and Deuteronomy, where God commanded the Israelites to have the law as a sign on their foreheads and between their eyes. the Jews in Jesus's time turned this symbolic gesture into a literal practice by inscribing specific passages of Scripture on strips of parchment enclosed in in a small leather boxes, which they wore on their forehead.
Starting point is 01:36:47 However, see, God meant it. Have my word before you at all times. Yes. Love my word. Always be seeing my word and thinking of my word. But the Jews turned the phylacteries into lucky charms yes an ambulance they were ambulance to protect them from evil spirits and they still do it today yes there's so much sorcery and witchcraft and magic in Judaism. God wanted them to know the word, not to just wear the word. That's right.
Starting point is 01:37:35 The other thing here is the Pharisees wanting to be seen as super devout, increasingly made their phylacteries wider than usual. The same way with the borders of their garments, which is mentioned in Numbers 15. The borders of their garments were adorned with fringes, tassels, with a blue thread symbolizing heaven and a white thread symbolizing the law. So the Pharisees exaggerated the size of the fringes. They enlarged their garments, their fringes. They made them bigger. The sin was not in wearing the phylacteries. No, in fact, back in Numbers, it says, do it.
Starting point is 01:38:33 Yes. Put tassels on your garments to remind you of the precepts of the law. Their sin was drawing attention to themselves and in treating the phylactery as a lucky charm to keep the evil spirits away. Right. Verse 6. And love the uppermost rooms at feast and the chief seats in the synagogues. So, in ancient times, at feast, the place of honor the best the the place of honor at feast
Starting point is 01:39:27 were the esteemed places they were couches we don't think about uh dining you know on couches but it's. But it's where the guests reclined. So instead of sitting at a table like we do in modern times, guests would recline on couches. And the uppermost positions, the placement of the couch denied you know denoted the honor among the guests so if you were at the far back of the room you weren't considered that important right important people got the best couches up at the front so it was custom at that time to recline on couches while dining and the tables were arranged in a square formation and cushions were placed around them the guests to recline and so what jesus is saying here is that oh you guys you love you love the the
Starting point is 01:40:52 the uppermost rooms of the feast you love getting those most comfortable couches at the front of the room you want to be seen as very important. You've got the best seating at a feast. Everybody else gets whatever's left over, but you guys get the best. Yes. And that was a recurring behavior in the leaders. They always got the best for themselves. You see it all the way back in the Old Testament prophets.
Starting point is 01:41:45 As Ezekiel condemned the worthless shepherds who made sure that they got fed and the sheep were hungry. So he's talking about the coveted positions at dinners. And he's pointing out, you guys love to grab those best seats. and then the chief seats in the synagogues those were the seats up front in the synagogues occupied by the elders near the pulpit and again the same principle desiring those seats
Starting point is 01:42:22 reflected a craving for recognition, for distinction, for prestige, to be seated at the very front. You think this stuff doesn't go on today. I remember a couple of years ago somebody telling me, I don't know if it's true he just told me he was there and he saw it and it was a church in miami and you had to buy a seat in the front of the church those seats were for rent and the more money you got the more money gave, the closer to the front you got. Yes. Which was a way of telling everybody else in the church, look how wealthy we are.
Starting point is 01:43:15 Look how generous we are. Look how important we are to the pastor. I have trouble believing that really is going on, but the gentleman told me that I said no I was there I saw it yeah that actually has gone on for quite a while and so even in colonial days in the in the here in America you know back in the 1700s I remember reading the biography of Benjamin Franklin and he he ended up buying a pew they had few sponsors in his shirt in the church he never used it he said I've been maybe three times but I own that pew and the idea was that you know they would have wealthy people sponsor pews by pews in order to build the church right uh but then you've got your name on it you got your little plaque on the end this pew owned by
Starting point is 01:44:14 sponsored by benjamin franklin it's the same thing i remember as a kid you'd see the communion table out in front of the church we have baptist church pentecostal church there'd be a little silver plaque this communion table uh sponsored by edna dordery dory or something like that right that always made me uncomfortable too rick i i don't you know i want to recognize people that give certainly but then there are people who use that to their advantage too in order to get the best seats, if you will, or to be recognized. The only reason why the Pharisees did good works at all was to be seen of men. Yes, that's what's at the heart of it. To be seen. Yes, to be seen yes to be seen the phylacteries the the bigger phylacteries the the wider tassels it was all to be seen the the best seats at the feast to
Starting point is 01:45:16 be seen the best seats in the synagogue to be seen it was all driven by pride and the desire to be seen by others as important. And it still goes on today in many ways. You see it in church, it's in politics, you know,'s in politics um you know clearly in politics you you you want to uh you you really want to be in a room close to the president or the candidate for president well you're going to donate a hundred thousand dollars that's how you're going to get in that room that's right you can't donate ten dollars and get in that room you need to donate a hundred thousand or more okay that's the way the game works
Starting point is 01:46:12 why they want to be seen you know they want to be seen you know two years ago I was invited to Mar-a-Lago to attend a political event for somebody in another state, and I went. And I was honored to have the invitation. But just the day before the event, a representative of that gentleman called me and said, Hey, Rick, you could have your picture taken with President Trump for $25,000. I don't have $25,000. And then he called back later and he said, well, we'll make it $10,000. I don't have $10,000. But it told me, Doc, this is the way the game is played.
Starting point is 01:47:22 If you want a photograph in your home or your office of you standing with President Trump, you're going to pay $25,000 for it. And it's not just President Trump. It's President Biden. It's Vice President Harris. It's all of them. The motivation to give is driven by the pride to be seen.
Starting point is 01:47:50 And how deep is that pride? Are you willing to come up with $25,000 to satisfy that pride? No, I'm not. But others will. And gladly do it. In fact, I stood there that night and watched how many people were in line to get that photograph and they were moving them through that line like an assembly line I'm thinking 25,000 25, $25,000 gift. So verse 7, and you love the salutations in the marketplaces to be called rabbi. So this is the next one. Not only do you want the best seats at the feast, the best seats at the synagogue, but you want to be called rabbi in the streets in the marketplaces well what is rabbi it's teacher master um rabban the highest rank right and when they use the term rabbi, rabbi together, it's like the great rabbi. You know, it's an elevated form. You're not just a rabbi, you're a rabbi's rabbi.
Starting point is 01:49:15 Super rabbi. Yeah, super rabbi. What did Jesus say about being called rabbi. He makes it clear. And father. And master. Religious father. There's nothing wrong with saying to somebody, you know, you're like a religious father to me. There's nothing wrong with that. But having the title father
Starting point is 01:49:42 is wrong. There's nothing wrong with saying that somebody is a teacher. Hey, you're my teacher of the word of God. There's nothing wrong with that. But you haven't given the title teacher. You're not addressing that person as dear teacher. Right. And they aren't exalting their title as teacher either.
Starting point is 01:50:08 Right. They have to stay in a position of humility. But titles like rabbi were symbols of authority and superiority. So Jesus is teaching his disciples not to seek such titles. He was emphasizing the equality among them as brethren and the singular authority of Almighty God. I think both the bestowal of titles and the acceptance of titles are forbidden by Christ. I cringe when I hear Catholics refer to the Pope as the Holy Father. Right. i cringe when i hear catholics refer to the pope as a holy father right
Starting point is 01:51:16 i just i think it's wrong what do we have in in the christian zionist churches now we have rabbis yes in informally evangelical Yes. You've got people claiming to be a rabbi, leading Christian churches. And all of you right now, you can think of one in particular who dresses in black. I've never seen him in anything but black. It's a mystery, Rick. It's a mystery. It's a mystery he doesn't have any clothing in his closet other than black. It's a mystery, Rick. It's a mystery. It's a mystery. He doesn't have any clothing in his closet other than black.
Starting point is 01:51:50 Dark, sinister. Wants to be known as rabbi. And people love calling him rabbi. You have Christians loving to have it. They just love having a rabbi they don't even want a pastor in their life anymore they want a rabbi yeah sort of like a rabbit's foot or four-leaf clover i've got a rabbi in my life right and and you've got pastors who want to have a rabbi you You've got American pastors traveling to Israel
Starting point is 01:52:25 to sit at the feet of Jewish rabbis who deny Christ. Yes. Big names. Yes, some very famous... Big, big, big names. So, look, you know, in the church world,
Starting point is 01:52:49 you know, the church world you know some denominations you have the right Reverend so-and-so is there a wrong Reverend what's a right Reverend archbishops and bishops and all these titles pope and so forth means father pope itself means father it's papa yes it's papa so it's interesting jesus says called no man rabbi and yet we have churches that will call people rabbi call no man father and yet we have churches that will call people rabbi, call no man father, and yet we have churches that will call men father, call no men master, and then the first thing that comes to my mind is Freemasonry, because in Freemasonry, you've got the masters in there. Christians participate in all three of these things. It's clear here in Matthew 23. Don't do it. Yes. And not only do we, you know,
Starting point is 01:53:48 these other titles and everything aren't explicitly mentioned. These three are. These three are specifically mentioned and we specifically violate them. Yes. So, okay, so, in Christian churches,
Starting point is 01:54:04 reverend, okay, churches, reverend. Okay, title's reverend. This is reverend so-and-so. Okay, a pastor. Now see, there are positions, there are positions in the church that are biblical. Elder. An elder is a biblical position. But I don't think it should be a title
Starting point is 01:54:28 you can recognize somebody as being in the position of elder without calling him elder so and so right you can recognize somebody as being a pastor pastor comes from presbyter it's where we get priest presbyter pastor it's all the same word they can be in the office the position the office of that um that biblical uh assignment but it doesn't mean that you give them, that you refer to them with that title. I got to be honest with you. I don't like, people call me Pastor Rick.
Starting point is 01:55:15 I honestly wish people wouldn't. Just call me Rick. That's who I am. I'm no more, I'm no less. I'm Rick. And I don't need to be addressed with any other title. I make jokes sometimes. People say, somebody needs me for the first time. Well, how would you like to be addressed?
Starting point is 01:55:41 And I usually joke and go, Your Royal Highness. But I can't get anybody to say it I like grand poobah better yeah grand poobah I like that one you want to call me grand poobah but seriously I don't want to be called anything but my name Rick that's who I am and I don't want
Starting point is 01:56:04 to be treated differently. I'm just like you. I'm a sinner saved by grace. And I'm still growing in the Lord. After all these years, I'm still growing in the Lord. And the Lord's given me the ability to teach yes but don't call me teacher you know he's given me assignments to shepherd but don't call me shepherd yeah you know just just call me rick that's who I am I don't need titles. I don't need a big pointy hat.
Starting point is 01:56:50 Those big pointy hats really crack me up. I've watched grown men just spend years of their lives hoping that someday to earn the right to wear a big pointy hat and often what it does it it cuts off the circulation to their brain and here years later their apostates okay we're at we're at the one hour mark.
