Ukraine's army last week launched a surprise invasion into Russian territory and seized approximately 600 square miles of Russian land. The invasion is a huge embarrassment to Vladimir Putin and the Russian military establishment. Today, Ukraine increased its attacks inside Russia.
Starting point is 00:01:47 I'm Rick Walsh. This is True News for Wednesday, August 14, 2024. Let's begin our analysis and commentary of today's news by looking at this headline published today by Newsweek. Ukraine strikes eight regions inside Russia in one of war's largest attacks. Doc, this is amazing what's taking place since last Thursday or Friday. Yes, and so this is the latest advance by the Ukrainian army into, now let's just be clear about this, into Russian territory itself. And Ukraine would not be able to make these advances without the assistance and coordination of NATO. Of the West. That's absolutely right. And Mr. Zelensky, the USurper president, whose term expired last spring and has remained in the presidential seat of Ukraine, I guess he refused to allow a peaceful transition of power.
Starting point is 00:02:39 Yet we're defending democracy in Ukraine. That's right. Isn't that the cause of the day? He refused to leave the presidential office of Ukraine. Now, if Donald Trump had done that. Then we'd have to have a civil war. Right. All right.
Starting point is 00:02:57 Now, in Ukraine, you just have a war. It's just a war. That's right. But today, Mr. Zelensky, this is the London Times. He said Ukraine is going deeper into Russia. Doc, just weeks ago, in the past 30 days, remember when we started to see the hints about attacking Moscow? Right. Well, the U.S. wouldn't, at the present time, authorize attacks on Moscow.
Starting point is 00:03:30 Which it's telling you at some point in the future. It's going to happen. Folks, we are on our way to seeing a Western attack on the capital city of Russia. Yes. That's where we're headed. The Ukrainian troops are moving towards Moscow.
Starting point is 00:03:48 And at some point in the very near future, Ukrainian missiles and drones are going to attack the Kremlin. Possibly, Doc, within weeks. So this is what Zelensky said today. So Ukraine's army is continuing to advance into Russia, President Zelensky said Wednesday, as fighting raids across the Kursk region in Russia. General Alexander Sersky, head of the Ukrainian army, said on Tuesday night that Kiev's forces had captured more than 40 square kilometers,
Starting point is 00:04:21 about 15 square miles of territory, just in the past 24 hours, taking 100 Russian troops captive. We're advancing further into the Kursk region from one to two kilometers in range of areas since the beginning of the day, he said. That's President Zelensky saying that. He ordered his military to take the next key steps, but did not give key details. Tom, I want to keep that photo on the screen. This is the Times of London. Those are reportedly Russian soldiers captured by Ukrainian soldiers. They have some form of blindfolds on them.
Starting point is 00:05:01 They're in the back of a military truck. But take note of the ages of these Russian soldiers. Yeah, I saw that earlier today. These guys aren't 18, 20 years old. These are mid-40s to mid-50s. So what does that say about Russia's depletion of men to fight this war? That they've come to a point where they're running out of people to send, too. If you believe the propaganda.
Starting point is 00:05:31 And so, once again— I think it's real, Doc. I do. I think this is real. And I think something very ominous took place last week when the Ukrainian army crossed over into the border. And this is not going to have a—I don't think it's going to have a pretty ending. I don't know how Putin can do anything other than obliterate Ukraine, which I want to talk about that a little bit later here in the program. But I want to show you what's happening before I get to that analysis.
Starting point is 00:06:06 The Telegraph, Kiev bombards Russian airbase 400 miles from the Russian border. Right. Doc, this is amazing what's taking place today. Again, they could not do this without the assistance of NATO nations, the weapons, the planning and coordination. So there's only one way the Russians can view these actions, and that is a NATO-inspired invasion and attack of their homeland. That's what's happening right now. Let's read first what the Telegraph has reported. So Ukraine has launched a long-range attack against three Russian air bases,
Starting point is 00:06:56 including one 400 miles from the border, in Kiev's largest drone strike since the beginning of the war. Wednesday morning, the Russian Defense Ministry claimed it had downed 117 drones launched at military targets across the country. Moscow did not comment on the strikes, but local social media channels reported the sound of explosions near the three airfields. The base is home to MiG-31 fighter jets, known to be used in hypersonic Kinzhal missile attacks on Ukrainian cities. Footage of the attack appeared to show drones in the sky over the Kulibatsky district near the military base. At least one drone can be seen hurtling towards the ground in a nosedive before disappearing behind a tree line,
Starting point is 00:07:38 which then glows orange after a presumed explosion. So this is, once again, this is on Russian soil, 400 miles away from the Ukrainian border. Today? Yes. This happened today. We've got two videos showing what Ukraine says is the attack. In this first video, you will see a drone coming in, and it appears on the screen here very soon.
Starting point is 00:08:07 Just keep your eye on the center screen and you'll see it there. There it goes. There's the attack. And the next one, this is a Ukrainian drone, a swarm of drones at a Russian military base. And you're seeing the destruction there. This is a massive attack by, as Rick said, a swarm of drones here in the Borysugublesk military air base in Voronezh, Russia. And so this is just the latest.
Starting point is 00:08:40 And you see the oil tanks there and everything as well. So this was a significant attack on air base and also oil storage facilities as well. So, Doc, Wall Street Journal reporting that Putin has withdrawn some Russian troops from Ukraine to take them back to Russia to fight the Ukrainians inside their country. Right. So Russia is withdrawing some of its military forces from Ukraine to respond to that offensive that's underway right now. Officials said the U.S. is still seeking to determine the significance of Russia's move and didn't say how many troops the U.S. assesses Russia is shifting to that new offensive.
Starting point is 00:09:21 But the new U.S. assessment bolsters claims by Ukrainian officials who said last week's surprise invasion of Kursk had drawn Russian forces away from Ukraine, where Moscow's advantage in manpower and equipment is allowing them to grind forward in several places. Ukraine, meanwhile, sent tanks and other armored vehicles to reinforce troops that have stunned the Kremlin by seizing a chunk of Russian territory. And Telegraph in London reporting Russia hastily building trenches in the Kursk region. So, Doc, if you're digging trenches inside your own country? That's World War I style warfare there.
Starting point is 00:10:07 But you're supposed to be digging trenches in the other country's country. Right. Not in your own country. That means you're under attack and you are desperately trying to hold back the invasion of a foreign army that has come into your country. Let's read this. This is the Telegraph today in London. It says, Russia has been building long stretches of trenches in Kursk, dozens of miles away from the border amid Ukraine's ongoing incursion. It says in the Telegraph article, open source intelligence sites have identified
Starting point is 00:10:41 the hastily dug defensive lines through satellite imagery, particularly around the town of Ligov, over 30 miles from Ukraine, as well as other key areas close to highways. OSIN Technical and open source analysts said the trenches if fallen back to would cede Ukraine a massive amount of territory. As we mentioned, Ukraine has stunned the Kremlin by storming over the border and quickly seizing a chunk of territory in this latest attack. The trench construction helps to bolster Ukraine's claims that its forces continue to advance in the eighth day of the invasion, despite Russia's military stating that they had stalled. So it's going to be interesting to see how this plays out because Ukraine not only has
Starting point is 00:11:29 to maintain this, but also they have to keep their supply lines open in order to keep these forces up to the task of holding on to that territory and whether they have those supply lines in place and everything. Because if they're dozens of miles inside Russia, you've got to have supply lines be able to reinforce those troops over a sustained period of time. If not, Russian forces from both sides and from inside Ukraine could cut off that entire offensive. So it's a risk that Ukraine has made, and I bet they're counting on the U.S. But they won't be able to hold onto the land. Right. That's the question. Can they hold onto it? Doc, I've said a couple times, and I misspoke here. I said this thing started last
Starting point is 00:12:25 Thursday or Friday. This report says eight days into it. It's hard to believe that this started a week ago. Things are moving so fast it's hard to keep up with all of the developments. Last week we were focused on
Starting point is 00:12:44 Iran and the possibility that there would be an with all of the developments. Last week, we were focused on Iran and the possibility that there would be an attack by weekend or Monday or Tuesday and not really paying attention to the fighting that was taking place in Russia. Right. Because I was mistakenly thinking, oh, the fighting is in the Russian-held territory of Ukraine.
Starting point is 00:13:09 Which Russia still holds right now. But that wasn't true. I had not processed the information that, no, Ukraine crossed into Russia. I'm going to tell you here in a moment what I think could happen. New York Post, President Biden says Ukraine's surprise invasion of Russia is creating a real dilemma for Putin. Says the U.S. is in constant contact with Kiev. I bet you are. The U.S. is in constant contact with Kiev.
Starting point is 00:13:48 That means we're assisting and coordinating with Kiev. You could read it two different ways. One way would be Ukraine did not tell the United States about the invasion. Which was a story that we had yesterday but didn't get a chance to talk about, which is a possibility because it's a wild hair situation there. And that Biden was, Mr. Biden was caught by surprise and that his administration has been in constant contact with Zelensky's government to figure out what's going on, what are your next moves.
Starting point is 00:14:26 That's a possibility. The other possibility is you're in constant contact because you're running, you're managing the operation, which seems more likely. I find it hard to believe that Zelensky pulled together the resources and strategy and said, hey, we're going to invade Russia. And we're not going to tell the United States and NATO about it. We're just going to do it ourselves. I don't see that happening. The disciples asked Jesus about the end of the age. You will hear of wars and rumors of wars. See that you aren't troubled. For all this must happen, but the end is not yet. For nation
Starting point is 00:15:05 will rise against nation and kingdom against kingdom. And there will be famines, plagues, and earthquakes in many places. I'm Dr. Robert A. If he's hesitating, if he has cold feet, if people are inside the meetings shouting at him, nuke them, and he won't do it. There could be a coup inside the Kremlin to remove Putin.
