Starting point is 00:00:00 The following program is made possible by the faithful prayers and financial support of listeners just like you. To find out how you can help, visit www.truenews.com. This is True News, the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth. So help us God. I'm Rick Wiles. Today begins New World Tech Week on True News. Doc and I will be in Nashville, Tennessee this week attending the National Religious Broadcasters Convention. It's the first time we have traveled since the World Economic Forum in February 2020. The COVID craziness is over and now we're in war craziness. If the Russia-Ukraine war worsens this week, Doc and I will turn around and return back to Vero Beach immediately. In order for us to week, Doc and I will turn around and return back to Vero Beach immediately.
Starting point is 00:01:06 In order for us to travel, Doc and I pre-recorded five episodes of True News for this entire week. I'll just go ahead and tell you now, I'll be wearing the same shirt and jacket on all five shows because we recorded all the episodes in one day. And I promise you this, by Friday, we will receive emails saying, Rick hasn't changed clothes all week. He probably hasn't even taken a bath. Well, I just went ahead and told you why. There are some exciting things I can announce today that are coming soon to this ministry.
Starting point is 00:01:44 First, the greatest reset movie will be released by the end of this month. Second, I will also launch a new website later this month, and we're making improvements on how we deliver relevant news and commentary to you. We are also providing a platform to host my new Bible teaching courses. The new website will feature my new daily Bible prophecy newsletter. Third, I will soon host a new weekday program that will be seen on a national television network. I'll give you more details in early April as we approach the launch date. Fourth, Doc and I will travel, God willing,
Starting point is 00:02:32 to Jordan in late April, early May. Some very exciting doors are opening for us there. Plus, I'm eager to personally meet many of our True News family in Jordan, especially the Bedouins in Petra, who watch True News on their mobile phone apps. We plan to lead Holy Land tour groups to Jordan several times each year, and we hope to take the first group to Jordan in October 2022. Now, there are many biblical sites in the nation of Jordan. Jordan is part of the Holy Land. Let's start with the Jordan River, where Jesus was
Starting point is 00:03:15 baptized. The Jordan River is in Jordan. There is also Mount Nebo, where Moses saw the promised land. You can also visit the plains where Sodom and Gomorrah once existed. You can still see Lot's wife standing there as a fossilized pillar. Doc and I hope to go to Jordan in late April and early May to scout out the land and establish a network of Jordanian friends to help us with the Holy Land tour starting next fall. And if you are interested in going to Jordan with us next October, please email us at info at truenews.com. Now, there's another reason we will go to Jordan in late April and early May. That's when a construction crew will be here to build a two-story office building inside our studio. We urgently need office space for our employees
Starting point is 00:04:16 and a portable prefab building built inside our existing building is the temporary answer to our growth problems. The price of the building will be over $175,000. And we will have 30 days to pay the invoice after delivery and construction. By faith in Jesus, I declare it is paid. Now, beginning today, it will be New World Tech Week on True News. The 2022 Mobile World Congress ended last Friday in Barcelona, Spain. And although Doc and I did not travel to Spain this year to attend this world-class technology conference, we have exclusive video from the conference to share with you each day this week we started attending technology conferences in 2017 and we
Starting point is 00:05:14 saw and heard what technology companies are planning to introduce to the world by the year 2030 we stopped traveling in 2020 because of the pandemic, and many of the things that we heard before 2020 were introduced to the world over the last two years during the pandemic. For example, the COVID-19 vaccine passports were designed to be carried on your mobile phone. Now that the propaganda pandemic is over, the war propaganda has begun. And where are the globalists and the technocrats taking the world? You will see and hear the technocrats tell you
Starting point is 00:05:59 this week on True News. I want Doc Burkhart to introduce what we will see today in part one of New Tech Order. Well, thanks, Rick. Today, as we start New World Tech Week, the Mobile World Congress comes right out of the gate with their first presentation, New Tech Order, setting the tone for the week of technology talk. 2021 saw every leader become a tech leader as nearly every industry went digital in some capacity. Now with next generation technologies like artificial intelligence, cryptocurrencies, and the metaverse creating new and innovative ways to connect, inform, entertain, and control, it's vital for mobile companies to use these technologies to
Starting point is 00:06:42 implement their global agendas such as climate, the digital divide, and the flow of correct information. You'll hear today from some of the leading voices in the push to establish a new tech order, including Mats Grenard, Director General of the GSMA, the group that presents the annual Mobile World Congress, Jose and Maria Alvarez, Chairman and CEO of one of the largest communications companies in the world, Telefonica, and Nick Reed, CEO of Vodafone, whose company is on the leading edge of the implementation of 5G technologies across Europe, Africa, and the Middle East. We will share this presentation of New Tech Order immediately after this urgent announcement from Heaven's Harvest. Being prepared means thinking long-term. Yes, you may have your immediate food and water needs supplied, but what happens if there's a long-term crisis or supply chain issues last months or even years? Do you have a long-term
Starting point is 00:07:38 food solution? Right now, our good friends at Heaven's Harvest are offering their premier heirloom vegetable seed kit for the affordable price of only $139.99. In fact, I'm going to sign a couple right now. The first one, pens over here. So the first one is to Robert, and this one will be going out right away. So Robert, thank you so much for supporting us. There you go, Robert. Your book is coming to you very very soon thank you uh the second one is to erwin erwin thank you appreciate your support and we will ship this book to you as fast as possible possible. There you go, Erwin. There's your copy for you. much. Appreciate your support. It means a lot to me. What I want to do is, I'm just going to pick a spot, and every day this week while we're away in Nashville. I just want to read to you a little bit from each book.
Starting point is 00:11:30 I think I'll start today with, this is page 35. The chapter is, His second coming shall be singular. There's one second coming, not two. And chapter one was the hardest chapter to write in this book. I can't tell you how many times I started over. It would tear up the first draft, the second draft, third draft. I had a very difficult time writing chapter one
Starting point is 00:12:01 because how do you prove to somebody who thinks that there's going to be two second comings of Jesus Christ, that there's only going to be one? You're dealing with a, it's a stronghold. It is a satanically inspired stronghold that's in the minds of sincere Christians. They were taught that Christ is going to come back twice. First the rapture, then seven years later, the second coming. And there's no such thing in the Bible. But how do you teach that in a short chapter in a book? It was the most challenging part of writing Final Day. By the way, Final Day, the subtitle is 10 Character of the lord's second coming and so what i did is i i took
Starting point is 00:12:51 10 adjectives about the lord's second coming and i wrote chapters his second coming shall be atmospheric his second coming shall be fiery his second coming shall be noisy his second coming shall be fiery. His second coming shall be noisy. His second coming shall be glorious. So 10 chapters about the second coming of the Lord. It has hardly anything to do with the Antichrist and the beef system, and it's all focused on the arrival of Jesus Christ. But anyhow, in this first chapter, which is about his second coming shall be singular on page 35 i wrote the darby scofield moody narrative is ludicrous and absurd yet tens of millions of sincere church members believe it why because darby's heterodoxy was jammed into their pastor's mind by seminary professors also indoctrinated with the radically new eschatology that appeared in the 19th century. The Zionist indoctrination
Starting point is 00:13:54 of Christian clergy has been ongoing since the days of Cyrus Schofield. The Caiaphas cabal found a way to enter Christ's church and change it from the inside. How do you persuade people who believe in an invisible secret event that is not real? It would be akin to convincing Elwood P. Dowd, as portrayed by Hollywood acting legend Jimmy Stewart, that his mythical Celtic puka pal Harvey wasn't a real rabbit. In the 1950 movie Harvey, only Elwood could see Harvey, the six foot three inches tall rabbit. Now Puka is a mischievous goblin in Irish folklore. Christian Zionists have an invisible puka pal too. His name is Rapture. You cannot see the Rapture Bunny in the Holy Bible, but his devotees passionately swear
Starting point is 00:14:55 he is there. They become angry if you challenge their religious delusion. it's best to smile and say you see their puka pal if you want the conversation to remain civil. Keep peace in your family. You never know when you will need your puka-believing brother-in-law to repair your air conditioner on a hot summer day. How do you convince your elderly mother who went to church every Sunday her whole life that the rapture puka is not real? Her favorite Bible prophecy teacher on religious television told her that the rapture is real. Are they all wrong and only you are right? Mom will have a tough time deciding whom to believe if you rupture her rapture. If mom admits her favorite Bible prophecy teacher misled her about the rapture, she must also question other doctrines they taught her.
Starting point is 00:15:55 Most people cannot go there. When challenged with scriptural evidence, people typically continue to believe a falsehood rather than consider the possibility that trusted religious leaders unintentionally or intentionally misled them for years. It may not seem a big deal when a six-year-old child believes in Santa Claus and Easter Bunny. What do you say, however, to a 60-year-old adult who still believes in mythical beings? That's when you lovingly pat your father on his back and say, Dad, I see the rapture puka too. Don't argue with them about their imaginary bunny. Guard important relationships.
Starting point is 00:16:39 The important thing is that your relatives and friends have faith in Jesus Christ to save their souls and resurrect their bodies on the last days. And it goes on with this chapter. This is chapter one on his second coming shall be singular. I'd like you to read this book. I'm telling you, it is a truth bomb. It will explode inside your mind. It will bring about a paradigm shift in your thinking about the second coming. You can have a copy. Go to truenews.com. Click the final day banner,
Starting point is 00:17:16 and it will take you to the page to order the book. Again, it's $19.95 plus shipping. If you do send a check, please add some extra funds to cover the shipping cost. And if you would like an autographed copy, we're asking for a donation of $100 and I will gladly send it out to you right away. All right, let's get into today's topic from Mobile World Congress. Here we go. Today, we're looking at the world in a new light. And with our different perspectives, we can accelerate opportunities to create value that lasts. How will you take advantage of the connections you make this week?
Starting point is 00:18:28 How will you see connectivity unleashed? As the boundaries blur between online and real life, we continue to rely on digital innovation and connectivity to transform our world. From the metaverse and NFTs to connected devices and IoT, this year's MWC themes will spark bold new ideas to create a positive future. As an industry, we pave the way for transformation and find new ways to help other industries innovate. And now, together, we continue our exciting 5G journey. Delivering on our industry's commitments to tackle the mobile internet usage gap and reducing our industry's carbon footprint, creating a better future for all. Because together we will unlock the full power of connectivity so that people, industry and society thrive.
Starting point is 00:19:54 This week, in our iconic host city of Barcelona, we will put our convictions to work for our businesses, for our next generation of leaders, and for the world. Are you ready? It's time. Ladies and gentlemen, please welcome Matt Granrid, Director General of the GSMA. APPLAUSE So, good morning.
Starting point is 00:20:52 I'd like to start with a question. What have you been doing during the pandemic? Have you picked up a third language, exercised, or have you done what I've been doing, worked, worked, and then watched a bunch of movies? Well, I have been enjoying a whole bunch of classic science fiction movies, you know, like Star Wars, Blade Runner, Total Recall, and I'm just amazed how much right they got about the future. Space travel, human-like robots, self-driving vehicles, and absolutely, absolutely no cables anywhere. They imagined the future and brought it to life. So welcome back to Barcelona. Welcome back to MWC 2022. My name is Mats. Thank you. My name is Mats and I'm the Director General of GSMA and it's just
Starting point is 00:21:48 so wonderful to have you all here again back together and back to do business. Thank you so much for coming. So why am I talking about science fiction movies? Well, if decades ago we imagined self-driving vehicles and AI and all based on connectivity, what are we imagining here today in this room? Well, there are roughly 800 leaders in this auditorium. And by the end of this year, there will be roughly 8 billion people in the world. And I believe that we, the 800,
Starting point is 00:22:25 have a responsibility towards the 8 billion people in the world. And I believe that we, the 800, have a responsibility towards the 8 billion. Sure, it is a lot of responsibility, but we are seeing digitization in every industry and in every country. And it's up to us to make things happen. Whatever you're imagining today, it will become a reality tomorrow. I can promise you that.
Starting point is 00:22:48 So what does this future look like as we move from simple connectivity to meaningful connectivity? Well, this morning I want to look to the future with three important groups of people. And so we're going to take a tour around MWC 22. Now first up are leaders from other industries here at MWC to do business. Manufacturing, energy, financial services and so many more verticals. So let's go to hall 3 to talk to Henrik Fisker who is launching Fisker Ocean, an all-electric SUV in Europe. Hello Henrik, how are you doing?
Starting point is 00:23:31 Hi, hello, I'm doing great, good morning everyone. We are here ready to show our Fisker Ocean, of course connectivity is extremely important for us. We are taking over the updates to a new level. We have our own Flexi app, meaning you're going to be fully connected between your mobile phone, your mobile device, and the car, and actually to us as a car company, which is very unique. I'm just going to give you a sneak peek here of the Fisker Ocean. It starts at €41,600, and it has up to 630 kilometers range. So this is totally new, and we are starting deliveries this year,
Starting point is 00:24:08 fully connected vehicle. Great to be here at the show. I'm going to go and show the car now. Back over to you. Thank you so much, Henrik. I must say, the car looks amazing. Congratulations, and good luck with your launch. That is pretty cool.
Starting point is 00:24:22 Thank you. We will be seeing much more of partnerships between business sectors throughout the week. From automotive to aviation. From education to entertainment. From manufacturing to metaverse. As mobile connectivity has a massive enablement effect. Take climate action, for instance. During COP26 in November, I called on business leaders and policy makers to use smart technologies to achieve net zero by 2050 and to limit global warming to 1.5 degrees.
Starting point is 00:24:56 And we don't need to wait. These technologies already exist today. But they are still very, very underused by energy-intensive industries, like energy, like transport, like buildings and manufacturing. If we start to use mobile technology in those four industries, we will enable global savings of around 11 gigatons of carbon emissions by 2030. That is equivalent to roughly 40% of the total required reduction. And another way to put it, it is the same as decommissioning around 2,700 coal-fired power
Starting point is 00:25:35 plants. Huge, huge opportunity. That is a lot of CO2 saved. It's a huge opportunity, and the mobile industry is prepared and we are ready to engage with other sectors to enable those savings. Okay, so to the second group of leaders, they are the leaders of tomorrow. They are the people that are innovating today, the rebels, the entrepreneurs that will gain most from mobilizing all the possibilities with 5G. Now, by the end of last year, close to 180 mobile operators in 70 markets around the world had launched commercial 5G services. Now, the future belongs to this generation, working in high-growth industries and strategic areas like smart cities, like health tech, fintech, prop tech,
Starting point is 00:26:27 sports tech, well literally XX tech. And as a proof point of this, mobile traffic has grown by more than 40% during only last year. And that is just the beginning. So let's go to our innovation zone four years from now, where hundreds of startups are rubbing shoulders with investors, eyeing up ideas and finding partners. And we're going to talk to Yael of Token City, who provides technology for infrastructure for fintech.
Starting point is 00:26:57 Good morning, Yael. What are you hoping to achieve here at MWC? Good morning, Hamas. We are delighted to be here at MWC. Good morning, we are delighted to be here at MWC. The event is truly fascinating people and technologies, specifically in our field, blockchain and DeFi, the centralised finance, which are technologies that are disrupting the financial industry. We work in this area because our company, Token City, has been the first crypto asset marketplace
Starting point is 00:27:26 for unlisted companies, asset managers, and investors. And this is why we will be participating in the four-year from now fintech program as Panacea. So we hope to see you all there. Come join us. Thank you, Yael. That is so interesting and an amazing, interesting area of opportunity. Thank you, Yael.
Starting point is 00:27:44 And the very best of luck this opportunity. Thank you, Yael. And the very best of luck this week. Thank you, bye bye. That's another cool idea, right? I talk a lot about the era of intelligent connectivity. You know, the combination of 5G, AI, IoT and big data. And by the end of this year, there will be 1 billion 5G connections globally. To help support this accelerated growth, today, the GSMA, we have launched a hub of 5G transformation
Starting point is 00:28:12 case studies, including 5G drones, 5G construction, and 5G wind farms. This is a frontier area of growth with lots of opportunities. Of course, it's a joint effort. Government and policymakers must be informed and encouraged to support the rapid and sustainable growth of 5G. And so I want to use today to call on governments for their timely release and assignment of spectrum at affordable prices. So far almost 80% of 5G launches have been carried out in the mid band spectrum, which is vital for citywide coverage. But it will be the millimeter wave spectrum that provides the fastest data speeds in densely
Starting point is 00:28:56 populated areas, like campuses, like industrial parks and sports arenas. Okay, so to the third group, and this one is a big group, the people that are not yet using mobile internet. Now, I believe our industry can deliver inclusion and prosperity that is fair and safe for everyone. Today,
Starting point is 00:29:20 just under half of the world's population is not connected online. That is 3.7 billion people. And it's made up of 450 million people that live outside areas that are not covered with a mobile broadband. We call that the coverage gap. And the 3.2 billion people that live within, beneath a mobile broadband coverage,
Starting point is 00:29:46 but are not yet using mobile broadband, mobile internet. We call that the usage gap. Now, the good news is that the coverage gap is being reduced. Over the last five years, 1.4 billion more people have been covered with mobile broadband, and now only the 450 million remains. But the usage gap, the 3.2 billion people, has hardly moved at all. Where affordability, skills, lack of content
Starting point is 00:30:15 are all really important factors. And of course, gender plays a big role too. Those who are unconnected are more likely to be less educated in rural areas and women. So now let's go to the ministerial program where our industry is meeting with governments and heads of regulation. I'm really, really happy to talk to Honourable Paula Ingabir from Rwanda. Good morning, Minister. Great to have you with us. Can you tell us a bit about the work you are doing in Rwanda to improve digital skills and affordability of mobile, to boost the mobile internet usage?
Starting point is 00:30:54 Thank you, Martin, good morning to you as well. The statistics that you just presented really an accurate representation of what we see in terms of coverage gap and usage gap. And so as the government of Rwanda, what we've prioritized is the digital talent policy that outlines the different initiatives that will build basic digital literacy skills for our citizens, as well as specialized professional skills that are needed to build the content that will be a key driver for mobile internet penetration. On the other hand, what we've also implemented is the Digital Ambassadors Program, which really is geared towards building the basic literacy for citizens
Starting point is 00:31:39 and also integrating basic digital literacy programs within the education system. The second part, which is really around devices and availability of devices, a big part of our population finds it difficult to own due to affordability. And what we are putting in place is device financing mechanisms that will make it affordable for citizens to own a device. Well, thank you, Minister.
Starting point is 00:32:12 It's really fascinating to hear what you're doing in Rwanda. And by the way, I hope to be able to see you in October during MWC Africa in Kigali. Thank you so much and enjoy the show. You're welcome. Thank you. Thank you so much and enjoy the show. You're very welcome. Thank you. Thank you. So for many people, mobile is the only way to get online. And so training is obviously very, very necessary, especially as the pandemic has accelerated growth in every dimension.
Starting point is 00:32:41 And so today I urge our partners, public and private, to invest at the same level as the mobile industry, to reduce the usage gap and bring the benefits of mobile internet to more people. And so back to this room. As responsible leaders, we have much to do. But no industry is better prepared than ours. The 800 in this room, plus the tens of thousands online, plus the 27 million employees that we have in our industry, directly and indirectly in this ecosystem. Now, our livelihood is built on reach with the 5.3 billion customers. Influence.
Starting point is 00:33:25 Now, we are essential for economic recovery. And speed. This industry will invest 600 billion US dollars from now to 2025 in mobile CapEx, and 85% of that will be towards 5G. There can be no future without us. More than ever, responsible leadership is the way. And let me say that the GSMA strongly condemns the Russian invasion of Ukraine. responsible leadership is the way to reject division,
Starting point is 00:34:09 to innovate for global recovery, and to unleash the full power of connectivity to transform lives and society. So today, what future are we imagining? Like the science fiction movies of the 20th century that I started with. What type of tomorrow are we dreaming of? What type of reality do we want to create?
Starting point is 00:34:31 So, this week, get inspired, dream, and then go back home and act. Thank you so much, and a warm welcome to MWC 2022. And now I have the great pleasure to welcome on stage Jose Maria Alvarez-Paletti of Telefonica. And Jose Maria is also the chair of the board of GSMA. Jose Maria. Good morning, everyone.
Starting point is 00:35:14 During the next 10 minutes, I will try to explain to you why I am a lucky man. It's not going to be easy, but bear with me for a while. We live in an era of conflict, apparently everywhere and about everything. Between East and West, between truth and fake news, between privacy and free services, between sovereignty and big digital platforms, between all industrial models and climate change, between automation and job creation, between digitalization and equality. Our society has lost its optimism. Our teens fear that climate change will be irreversible.
Starting point is 00:35:59 Many of our citizens think that technological progress will destroy their jobs, erode their freedoms or impose values that they consider alien. Our citizens think that technological progress will destroy their jobs, erode their freedoms, or impose values that they consider alien. Many think the future will be worse for almost everyone. Despite the immense material progress that technology and reason have brought to humanity in the last 200 years, despite the fact that our lives today are longer, healthier, and more comfortable than those of our great grandparents. Despite the fact that the complete eradication of hunger and poverty is for the first time
Starting point is 00:36:35 in history a possible achievement. Despite the fact that today the world is more connected. Despite all of this, we are losing faith in ourselves and in our future. It is not an arbitrary feeling. There are reasons that explain this state of mind. The main one is that the link between material progress and ethical progress has been blurred. The convulsions of the 20th century and the disconcerting events of the dawn of the 21st century, such as what is happening right now in Ukraine, have reminded us that technology lacks values. Technology gives us power to change and do more things, but that power can
Starting point is 00:37:20 be used for good or for bad. When technology promotes hyper-individualistic values to the detriment of values such as solidarity, social empathy, or mere contact between people, society distrusts it and those who provide it. We are living in a new era, the deepest technological revolution in human history. Its impact is expected to be four times as big as that in a new era, the deepest technological revolution in human history. Its impact is expected to be four times as big as that from the Industrial Revolution.
Starting point is 00:37:51 Everything is happening at amazing speed. The pandemic has been like a time machine, accelerating further the digitization, and this is irreversible. This is just starting. Ultra broadband connectivity is already here. Processing and storage capacity are growing exponentially and moving to the cloud. Virtual, augmented and enhanced reality are changing how we experience everything. Internet of Things and big data are producing and handling huge amounts of data.
Starting point is 00:38:26 And more is coming. Blockchain, quantum computing, cybersecurity, edge computing, standalone 5G and artificial intelligence. A new immersive world is almost here with Web3 and the metaverse. They are already delivering mind-blowing disruption. These technologies are redefining the society and the economy within which we live. But none of this can exist without the ultra broadband
Starting point is 00:38:55 connectivity provided by 5G and fiber networks. Underpinning this new immersive reality will be the most technologically advanced infrastructure built to move the world forward. We are deploying the networks of the future, based on concepts such as virtualization, cloudification, open architectures, edge computing, or cloud-afted native functions. All of this, combined with powerful machine learning and artificial intelligence,
Starting point is 00:39:28 will bring closer the long-time ideal of the truly autonomous network. This involves the ideal of zero. Zero weight, zero touch, and zero trouble. It involves a big challenge. As an industry, we are aware of it. We enter a new era of super-connectivity. But this won't happen without us.
Starting point is 00:39:53 Our sector is crucial. We have built and keep on building the 21st century digital infrastructures. We have made and keep on making possible all new digital services. We have made and keep on making possible all new digital services. We have made and keep on making connectivity affordable. We have digitalized and keep on digitalizing the world. We have been and continue being essential during the pandemic and always. The telco sector radically changes the lives of people around the world. In the last 25 years, no other industry in the world has contributed to the economic
Starting point is 00:40:31 and social welfare of this sector. We can proudly say that without us, the deepest technological evolution in human history would not have happened. Without us, the less developed parts of the world would have been dramatically disconnected from the digital revolution. Without us and our resilience, the world would have stopped completely during the sanitary crisis. We did our job. We were there when needed. We have always been part of the solution. To deliver a new era of super connectivity, we need a new framework, a new era of hyper sector
Starting point is 00:41:12 collaboration. We must create an environment that delivers value to all, that allows everyone to obtain a fair return. Here we stand. We respect all players of the new economy, but we also deserve respect. We want to compete in equal terms, same service, same rule, same obligation. We are not asking for privileges, just for justice. We are asking for a framework
Starting point is 00:41:42 that protects all digital citizens. Allow us to compete in the new world. It is also our world. Data traffic is growing by up to 50% annually. The investment challenge is huge and deserves special attention. The burden of investment needed to handle this increasing volume of traffic should sit fairly with those that impose it.
Starting point is 00:42:07 The telco sector is the door to the future. We need a strong and sustainable telco industry. This new era requires new values to make it an era of opportunities for everyone. We have a responsibility to make sure that this new reality mirrors the best of the physical world's principles, the best of our democratic and open societies, the best of our values. We need a new social contract. Human beings must never be categorized by their access to digitization. There should be no distinction between those who have the access to the new digital world and those who do not. Education, digital
Starting point is 00:42:49 skills and employability are key tools to fight the inequality breach. Working together we can make the biggest and quickest difference. The commitment to digital inclusion must unite the entire industry, and we must also work together alongside the public sector. Climate change is the major challenge humanity is facing. Our industry has been an enormous amount to contribute. In simple terms, there is no energy transition without digitalization. Despite exponential profit increase, this sector has achieved an impressive reduction in energy consumption. We are committed to reach net zero emissions by 2025, but our main contribution to the
Starting point is 00:43:37 green transition goes beyond. Our sector has the power to transform other industries. Our products and services allow other sectors to make progress in energy efficiency. The old rules are not able to cope with the new world. We are entering uncharted territory, and the rules are not yet written. We need values to fill in the blanks. If we do it right, it will bring opportunities for everyone. If we do it right, we will recover a trust that has been shaken by fake news, trolls, bots, and cybercrime. If we do it right, we will recover our own privacy and the digital
Starting point is 00:44:19 sovereignty, as data is part of our dignity. If we do it right, the digital revolution will bring social progress because the digital world must be a better world. It is our collective responsibility to spread the benefits of digitization and make sure that we do not leave anyone behind. Time has come to unleash a new era. A historical, unprecedented revolution requires to stand for our values and rights in the new world.
Starting point is 00:44:50 It is about dignity, solidarity, responsibility, social cohesion and a greener world. It is about values. We must be aware of the enormous power of technology, for good and for bad. But this is not the time for technology. It is already here. It's the time to put people and values at the center. At a time when technology is more present than ever in our lives, we cannot forget that it is people who give purpose to technology and not the other way around.
Starting point is 00:45:26 The GSMA vision is to unlock the full power of connectivity so that people, industry, and society thrive. Our problems have never been solved with less science, less innovation, or less technology. Improvements have always come when we have driven progress, when we have trusted in the future, when our society has felt as own the advances of the scientific community and the business ecosystem. This is what makes possible to industrialize knowledge and create new services. When the states and companies have worked together by being positive. I am optimistic, maybe worried optimistic, but optimistic. I know that we will not move forward
Starting point is 00:46:09 if we do not rewrite the new social contract between science, business, and society, restore consensus, and release the creative energy of hope. But I also know that we can do it. And that's the real change, the great social innovation that can restore the bridge between material and ethical progress. We need responsible leadership.
Starting point is 00:46:33 This is not a time for confrontation nor for conflict. This is not a time for war. This is time for collaboration. This is not time for exclusion nor building walls. This is time for inclusion and opening doors. We are very proud of what we have done, what we are doing and what we will do as an industry. The telco sector will be there, playing a relevant role and fulfilling its essential purpose. Welfare improvement has always come when progress has been fostered, when we have had confidence in the future,
Starting point is 00:47:07 when society has felt as theirs the technological achievements. Together we can gather big ambition. Together we can do incredible things and deliver incredible benefits for all. And that's why I am a lucky person. I am here at Barcelona, an amazing city. I work in an amazing company, in an amazing sector, at an amazing time. And I chair the GSMA. Let us start today, here and now, at MWC22, and unleash this new era.
Starting point is 00:47:40 Thank you very much. So, thank you, Jose Maria, for this very timely and powerful speech. And I so much look forward to working with you during GSMA. Now, another giant on stage. I would like to welcome Mr. Nick Reed of Vodafone. Nick. Thank you very much, Matt. By the way, I have to say my slides are about 50% of the price of Jose Maria's, okay? So lower your expectations now. So good morning. With the backdrop of the Ukraine war, it is a conference like this that reminds me of the importance of global sectors and communities like ours working together to advance society. Our thoughts go out to everyone affected by the war.
Starting point is 00:49:03 Now, I last presented at Mobile World Congress in February 2019, and at that time I was CEO for five months. At that time, I spoke about five months. At that time I spoke about the need for a new social contract, the need for industry and governments to work together more collaboratively so that telecom companies could support the whole of society in their digital needs and ambitions. Then came the pandemic. I'm deeply proud of the work that our teams and colleagues around the world accomplished together. Our networks, our connectivity and our services kept hospitals, schools, businesses, big and small,
Starting point is 00:49:41 government services and local communities connected. Looking back, our joint efforts truly captured the spirit of the new social contract that I'd been calling for. Now looking forward, I'm sure my colleagues on the stage today will expand on the transformational powers of future technologies, including metaverse, AI, cloud, edge compute and 5G. Digital infrastructure and technologies are at the cusp of transforming how our economies and societies function. As such, digital will increasingly determine the competitiveness of not only companies, but nations and continents. Put simply, digital is becoming make or break. Now Vodafone is a global company with scaled regional presence across Europe and Africa, but importantly with strong local roots
Starting point is 00:50:48 in every country we are proud to operate in. The challenge before Vodafone and before many of us in European and African telecom sector is how can we support the digital shift in an inclusive and environmentally sustainable way. For me, we need to take our social contract to the next level, a social contract for regional competitiveness. I want to share my thoughts on what it takes to get there.
Starting point is 00:51:21 I will focus on Europe and Africa, where we are the most active. And I will set out three essential ingredients to increase our chance of success. Firstly, tackling the challenges head on. Secondly, fully leveraging regional scale whilst nurturing local grassroots, and finally embracing a new approach together. So let's start with the challenges. The most pressing issue is clearly the war in Ukraine. This adds to the world facing political, economic, social and environmental turmoil all at the same time.
Starting point is 00:52:06 We are all going to have to dig very deep to help overcome these challenges. As an industry, it is our obligation to do our part. And through our technologies, we also have a lot to offer. These last two years have clearly shown that the services we provide are critical nationally and regionally. Now looking ahead, 5G in particular is the catalyst for innovation, transforming every industrial sector and will underpin the next phase of a digital society. Every country and region will try to maximise their chance to capture this opportunity for
Starting point is 00:52:53 jobs and growth. Africa needs digital to accelerate development and diversify its economies. Europe needs to be digital to remain globally competitive and maintain its leadership role in key sectors such as automotive, aerospace, defense and agriculture. The regions that have 5G first will be the regions that innovate fastest. Yet at current rates it will take until at least the end of the decade for Europe to match the transformational full 5G experience that China will already have achieved this year.
Starting point is 00:53:37 If we look at 5G population coverage around the world, South Korea over 90%, China 60%, USA 45% and Europe under 10% and with Africa hardly even at the starting line. Europe will only catch up if we reverse the ill health and hyper fragmentation of the sector. We must have local scale to close the investment gap. Otherwise, we will be the passive bystander of the new tech order. So my first message here is simple. We all need to face this challenge head-on and resolve it quickly together. I'm fully aware of the magnitude of the task ahead. Here's how I see Vodafone playing a key role in making this happen.
Starting point is 00:54:32 First, scale. Local scale is needed to close the investment gap and ensure we can deploy 5G at pace. Regional scale is needed to close the digitalisation gap. The combination of local and regional ensures our economies and societies can enjoy the full benefits of digital innovation and industrialisation. We've all seen the impact of global digital platforms, platforms that change the way we conduct our lives. Vodafone continues to invest in those regional platforms, and I just want to give you some examples.
Starting point is 00:55:15 In Europe, we created our IoT platform, which connects more than 140 million devices across 180 countries. The SIM-based IoT market has tripled in the last five years and in the next five years will hit 5 billion connections. I'm proud to say that over 60% of Europe's leading car brands are on our IoT platform and with that scale we're able to evolve from the Internet of Things to the economy of things, from seamless connectivity to seamless transactions between machines. We have just launched our digital asset broker platform,
Starting point is 00:56:00 with the first use case being electric vehicle charging. Now, using our platform to link an authorised vehicle with a pre-authorised digital wallet to transact with the local charging infrastructure. Our vision is to enable all machines to transact with each other securely through our platform using the customer's digital wallet without the need for human intervention.
Starting point is 00:56:31 The transformation that IoT brings is not just industrial. It's also green. I encourage you, I really encourage you to go and see our stand on Hall 3. It's a promotion, I understand this. Go to our and you will see a range of green IoT solutions that I think are very impressive, going from smart buildings to smart agriculture to connected forests. Our platform development is equally focused on Africa.
Starting point is 00:57:06 This year our M-Pesa platform celebrates its 15th anniversary and is a great example of how a regional platform can evolve and grow, from peer-to-peer money transfer, to payment of utility bills to enabling payroll of businesses to financial services such as microloans. It is the region's largest fintech platform providing access to financial services for more than 50 million people in a secure, affordable and convenient way. So my second message is that our scaled platforms ensure the digital transformation takes root through the whole of society. They become anchors for a growing local and regional ecosystem of new solutions and applications. This leads me to my third point. If we are to be successful in digital transformation, we all need to go faster, challenge the status
Starting point is 00:58:13 quo and lean in on co-creation. Though our sector is highly competitive, importantly, to remain globally competitive, we also need to collaborate. Open RAN is a great example of sector collaboration and how we need to think like global challengers. The Open RAN MOU we signed as a European sector shows how an industry can come together to drive transformation and should be the blueprint for future collaboration. Changing the mindset of the whole sector is a good thing but to be truly successful we need governments, policymakers and regulators to be on the journey with us. Let me take an opportunity to talk about the deep collaboration we've had with the Spanish government and it's not because we're in Spain, but for two important reasons.
Starting point is 00:59:15 Firstly, because I believe it represents a blueprint that every government could adopt. And secondly, because it illustrates how the benefits of scaled technology strengthen the local competitiveness. I'd summarise the collaboration in five areas. First, with industry the government developed a clear and bold digital plan. Second, there was an honest assessment of the financial health of the telecom sector and as a result significant policy reforms in relation to spectrum and tax have been made. Third, the government's digital plan was matched with a strong execution program to ensure the right pace of
Starting point is 01:00:01 transformation. Fourth, last month we proudly opened a pan-European R&D centre in Malaga, creating 700 skilled jobs. And finally, Vodafone has created a European V-Hub to help SMEs digitally enable their businesses. We want to create a Europe-wide community of SMEs digitally enable their businesses. We want to create a Europe-wide community of SMEs where they get free advice, share best practices with the aim of helping them on the journey to become globally competitive. And with inspiration from the Spanish government we created our own SME digital toolkits
Starting point is 01:00:43 which we are now rolling out across our markets, providing standardised solutions to help SMEs. However, even with this support from the government, it's no secret that there's still more to be done to address market fragmentation. In Spain and across Europe, it will come down to the operators, government and the European Commission to find the right solution moving
Starting point is 01:01:12 forward. So to conclude, Vodafone is committed to the long-term success of Europe and Africa. We will play our part to demonstrate leadership in the sector and society as genuine partners. To our peers, strategic partners, governments and regulators, we ask you to lean in. Together, we can enable a digital Europe and Africa that is truly competitive for the future. Thank you. So thank you, Nick, so much for highlighting the role that the leaders in this room have and the whole industry are playing in this global transformation.
