Let's begin our analysis and commentary of today's news by looking at this headline published today by the Times of London. Ukraine fires British storm shadow missiles into Russia for the first time. And this is what the Times said. Ukraine has fired British storm made storm shadow missiles into Russia for the first time. Twelve of the long-range missiles were fired into Kursk, a region partially held by Ukrainian forces, according to Russian channels, which posted photographs of fragments of metal with the word storm shadow stenciled on them. The fragments were said to have been found by residents in a village of Marino. It comes after Kerr Starmer said Kiev must have what it needs to win the war in Ukraine.

Britain had been pressing the U.S. to allow the use of long-range missiles against targets in Russia for months. The U.S. is thought to provide the navigational information needed to ensure that the missiles hit their target. Bingo, there it is. There you go. That's what we're facing right now.

And then they were UK-made storm shadows that went into Russia using American navigational satellite guidance.

And why are we all going to die? Somebody tell me again. Yeah, what's the objective in Ukraine? What's the payoff in this? What is the upside?

The official said such mines would be delivered soon, and Washington expected that they would be used on Ukraine's territory. Ukraine was also committed to not using the mines in densely populated areas. So if you live in a thinly populated area and your child steps on one, it doesn't count.

But in a densely populated area, which you're going to have to hold the Ukrainians too, right? Yeah. So it says Mr. Biden has been reluctant to supply Ukraine with the mines and been in opposition from a wide range of anti-mine advocates. Because the Russians have been so unsuccessful in the way that they have been fighting, they've kind of changed their tactics a bit and they don't lead with their mechanized forces anymore. They lead with the dismounted forces who are able to close and do things to kind of pave the way for mechanized forces. So that's what the Ukrainians are seeing right now. And they have a need for things that can help slow down that effort on the part of the Russians.

They're fabricating their own anti-personnel landmines right now. The landmines that we would look to provide them would be landmines that are not persistent. You know, we can control when they would self-activate, self-detonate, and that makes it far more safer eventually than the things that they are creating on their own. Safe landmines there, Rick. Ukraine has plenty of HIMARS and MLRS rocket launchers to fire them, but with a limited supply, Ukrainian military commanders will need to choose carefully when they select targets inside Russia

for attack. At present, President Biden has restricted the use of attackams, which has changed here over the past 24 hours, where Russian troops backed by 10,000 North Korean soldiers are preparing for a counteroffensive against Kiev's forces, which are still occupying about 1,000 square kilometers of territory. With its range of 190 miles, the TACOMs could put at risk about 245 Russian military sites from air bases to ammo depots, according to the Institute for the Study of War in Washington. In anticipation of strikes from Ukraine, Russian fighter and bomber aircraft have been moved further away from about 16 of those bases. So we'll give you an idea here. We have a map here from the Times

that shows where the potential targets could be for these new Atacoms and Storm Shadow missiles that are being introduced into the theater. Okay. So the aircraft icons, they represent Russian Air Force bases. You can see them all the way around. That's inside Russian territory. There's a Russian Air Force bases. All of those Air Force bases are within range of the American attack and the British storm shadows. So think about American bases in America, Air Force bases in Florida and all over the United States suddenly being attacked by Mexico.

That's what's happening here. The other ones, the orange dots, they represent, it could be munition depots or other military installations. There's quite a few, 245 military targets within range of these rockets. Doc, I think the one that they're going to hit is the Crimean Bridge. You see it south? You see Crimea below? I believe they're going to take out the Crimean Bridge.

They've been itching to do this for two years. It would be a massive psychological blow to Russia, a huge financial hit. But the psychological damage would be enormous. To see that long span that connects the Russian mainland with Crimea. See that thing crumble into the sea? That would be shocking. And it would be a propaganda win for Ukraine. And I think that one, they're definitely saving some of these missiles for the Crimean Bridge.

Right. I would expect any day Crimean Bridge is going to be taken out. You can count on it. And Putin's fury is going to be uncontrollable when it happens. But what we see here in this article, what we just read, is that the U.S. has given Ukraine 50 attack them. Yes. Now, they've used up six.

Right. So, we're now in the upper 40s, 49 ATAKOMs left. Okay. Not 49, but 44. So, that's what they've got left to use. That's why they're going to carefully choose the targets that they're going to hit between now and the first, well, they got till January, January 20. So they're going to space these out. A report by Der Spiegel in the summer said as many as 800,000 soldiers from the security block could be hosted by Germany as they transit to post further east. You know what that makes Germany? One big target. Yes. One giant nuclear weapon hitting Germany takes out 800,000 troops. Are they not thinking like this? If you were in Russia, would you let 800,000 foreign troops gather in Germany

for the purpose of staging an invasion of your country? No, they had two world wars. And Germany was in the center of both of them. That's right. No offense to Germany, because I'm 100% German, but Germany has started two world wars. So now we're going to the third one.

800,000 NATO troops. How many are coming from America? Moms and dads, you got sons, baby daughters in the U.S. military. Grandkids. They're going to Germany to fight the Russians. So the German army is also instructing companies and civilians on how to protect key infrastructure and mobilize for national defense, envisaging a situation in which Russia expands drone flights, spying operations, and sabotage attacks across Europe.

Now, businesses have been advised to create crisis plans detailing employee responsibilities during emergencies and will be instructed to stockpile diesel generators or install wind turbines to ensure energy independence. Yes, you're going to win the war with a windmill. Germany's preparation follows examples set by Nordic countries, where pamphlets and emails have already been sent to millions of homes with advice, listen to this, folks, on seeking shelter, stockpiling supplies, and rudimentary military training. Finland reminded its citizens of their national defense obligation and recently launched a new information website while Sweden laid out

a detailed guide on how to seek shelter and what to do in case of a nuclear attack. Their instruction manuals follow similar advice issued by their Baltic neighbors, Norway and Denmark, which both put out checklists for food and medicine supplies that citizens should have ready. So these are the instructions that governments are giving to their people in Europe, Rick, to prepare, get emergency supplies. Are you feeling the acceleration of war fever? Yes.

But even if that didn't happen, for me, if we sold out everything at one time

in one day, I wouldn't have the financial resources to come up with hundreds of thousands of dollars to place another order. I just don't have that kind of money. We're replenishing our supply. As you buy food, we're taking the profits and buying more food. I mean, that's what's happening, Doc. We're just replenishing the inventory from the resources we gain by selling the products that we have. Right. All right? Right. So I'm just telling you, there will be there will be a day that all emergency food supplies will disappear. OK. And that's what I'm expecting. And I think we're going to run up onto it very quick.

Again, I'm I'm anticipating that this is going to be a limited confrontation, but a very bad confrontation. All of us will think the end of the world is here, but they'll pull back. They'll pull back because neither side will be ready for the big confrontation. They're not ready for it. And so each side will restrain from fully going into an all-out war

Matthew chapter 27, verse 1 1 reading from the King James when the morning was come all the chief priests and elders of the people took counsel against Jesus to put him to death and when they had bound him they led him away and delivered him to Pontius Pilate the governor. Then Judas which had betrayed him when he saw that he was condemned, repented himself and brought again the 30 pieces of silver to the chief priest and elders, saying, I have

sinned in that I have betrayed innocent blood. And they said, what is that to us? See thou to that. And he cast down the pieces of silver in the temple and departed and went and hanged himself. And the chief priest took the silver pieces and said, It is not lawful for to put them into the treasury because it is the price of blood. And they took counsel and bought with them the potter's field to bury strangers in. Wherefore, that field was called the field of blood unto this day then was fulfilled that which was spoken by Jeremiah the prophet saying and they took the thirty pieces of silver the price of him that was valued whom they of the children of Israel did value and gave them for the potter's field as the Lord appointed me. Verse one, when the morning was come, all the chief priests and elders of the people took counsel against Jesus to put him to death. So the counsel, this counsel took place early in the morning, not long after Jesus had been condemned by the Sanhedrin. So the meeting occurred shortly after Peter's last denial, sometime about the break of day, with the sun rising probably around 5 a.m during that time of the year in judea the early morning meeting resumed deliberations that began during the illegal nighttime trial the purpose of this meeting was that the chief priests and the elders met to finalize their plans for taking Jesus's life there was no doubt what this was about they were going to get it done and they were going to do it legally. So they're going to legalize an illegal action.

Yes, yes. That's what religion does to you. That's right. Religion will find a way to do something illegal. So they've got a problem here. Despite having condemned Jesus on charges of blasphemy according to Jewish law, they were unable to execute him directly because they feared the public. They feared the Jews in Jerusalem.

So, are you saying that these Jews feared the Jews? What's that? Are you saying that these Jews feared the Jews? Yes. Yes, they were afraid

that their fellow Jews would turn on them. Because, listen, the early church was 100 jewish yes in jerusalem it was 100 jewish you can't have the mindset that all the jews were against jesus and wanted to execute him no a lot of the jews loved him and wanted to execute him. No, a lot of the Jews loved him. And that's why the Sanhedrin was so devious in the way they went about killing Jesus,

because they knew Jesus was loved by their fellow Jews. Right. I don't want to get off on a tangent but listen there are people today that condemn all jews because of the evil activities of a handful of jews it is wrong most jewish people have no idea what a very small cabal of jews are doing in the world. So don't follow people. Don't listen to people who just have a blanket condemnation of the Jewish people because it's not right. Now, this meeting symbolized a transition from the informal trial to a formal judicial proceeding. The leaders could have said, well, no, we didn't break the law by having a meeting at night.

It was not an official meeting. We never called it to order. It was just a gathering. We're now in an official meeting. We never called it to order. It was just a gathering. We're now in the real meeting, and it's daytime, it's morning, and now we're legitimate. See, they knew that their meeting at night was illegitimate, according to their own rules. Right. So they convened formally at daybreak to adhere to Jewish legal customs that prohibited formal legal proceedings at night. And Jewish law required sentences involving life or death to be confirmed during daylight hours to ensure due process so the morning session was convened to give an official

stamp of legitimacy to the previous night's illegitimate decision. This goes on in government all the time. Government leaders have secret meetings, make their decision, then they hold a formal public meeting and pretend they're going through the motions and arrive at the decision that they arrived at in the secret meeting. It goes on all the time. You know, Solomon said there's nothing new under the sun. Yes, same thing. What has been shall be.

Okay. so one of the ironies here doc is the jewish religious leaders met in the temple in the early morning hours to plot the murder of the son of god and what they should have been doing in the early morning hours was praying and carrying out their religious duties in the worship of god because this was a big day yeah yeah was this a passover right Yeah, this is Passover. Right. And so they set aside their religious duties to conspire to murder the Son of God. Yes. Which made their actions even more reprehensible. I mean, it's on a different scale.

Can you imagine today a church pastor on a Sunday morning saying, I don't have time to preach the sermon. I'm going to get somebody killed. That's what these guys did. They canceled their early morning prayer meetings in the temple to figure out how to kill somebody. There you go, Rick. Yes. You see the signs up. No prayers this morning. No Passover prayers this morning.

Come back tomorrow. It says they took counsel. This is a deliberate formal deliberation. It's not an informal meeting. It's not a hasty meeting. They took counsel in a full assembly. They made sure this is

the appearance of it was totally legitimate look it's the full assembly we went by all the rules we met in the morning we opened up you know according to Robert's Rules of Order we did everything legitimate we read the minutes of the last meeting. They went through all the motions to make it a legitimate meeting. Do we have a motion here to convict Jesus? I'll second that. Yes.

The decision was made secretly at night. Now, there was a shift in strategy. The Jewish leaders, their aim was to secure Jesus' death by bringing the Roman government into this matter because they lacked the legal power to carry out a capital punishment under Roman rule. They had this problem. They could do it under Jewish law. But they were not in Jewish law because the Romans were occupying them. So they've got a problem.

They want to carry out an execution on blasphemy. That's all they needed. Hey, he's a blasphemer. We're going to kill him. But the Romans said, no, you're not not you can't kill people for blasphemy that's not against the law in rome unless you blaspheme caesar right well did he blaspheme caesar no well you can't kill him so they got a problem here doc they got to get the romans to come in and kill him according to Roman law. Because they can't do it on their own. They were eager to execute judgment on Jesus.

But Roman law required that executions, capital crimes, be adjudicated by a Roman governor. It required the stamp of approval from a Roman governor to put somebody to death. So that necessitated referring Jesus to Pilate. Right. Despite their own decision on his guilt. Yes. So the charges shifted from religious accusations, blasphemy, to political accusations, sedition. He's an insurrectionist pilot he called himself the king of the Jews

he's not our king Caesar's our king and yet in their private meetings they spit on the name of Caesar but in public on this occasion Caesar was their king right

we don't have any other king but Caesar. No king but Caesar. You know, Pilate, what are you going to do about it? This man's calling himself a king. He's putting himself on the level of Caesar. And we're shocked. We're stunned. We don't know what to do with this man.

You see the game. You see the manipulation that they used. Conniving, sneaky. Lawfare. It's lawfare, isn't it? Yeah, it's lawfare. They use lawfare against Jesus. We're going to get the state involved.

So they recognized that they could not lawfully execute Jesus by stoning him. See, according to Mosaic law, he would be stoned for blasphemy. But the Romans aren't going to allow it. And they also feared the reaction of the Jewish population in Jerusalem. So they came up with a strategy to have him executed under Roman law so they plan to accuse Jesus of perverting the nation and forbidding the payment of tribute to Caesar that's what they had planned to do. Remember the trick question? Jesus, is it lawful to pay taxes to Caesar? That was the plan. But they're going to get him on a trick question. We got him want income tax invasion. Well, I can get you in trouble.

What do you mean? Well, he was telling his people not to pay taxes to Caesar. Oh, boy. That didn't work. See, all those trick questions were meant to get a conviction an execution none of those things worked they didn't just come up with this idea during the night let's kill Jesus they had been talking about this for a long time. So, this meeting in the morning, the consultation was focused not merely on affirming

Jesus' death sentence, but on determining the method and the manner of execution that would align with their goals and be legal under Roman law. So they were scheming to frame Jesus in a way that would compel Pilate to execute Jesus. And then their hands are clean. He didn't kill him.

The Romans killed him. What are you talking about? And to this day, they still use that line and if you say that the Jews killed Jesus they will say you are guilty of blood libel right in spite of the fact that the New Testament says exactly that those Those exact words. But they'll dismiss the scriptures anyway. The scriptures don't count against them. But they used legal

tactics in order to execute Jesus. But it was still, listen, we all crucified Christ. You get right down to it. We all did. But you see the conspiracy, the subterfuge and everything that went on to uh put jesus on the cross and yet at the same time this is this is so hard to comprehend

jesus put himself on the cross yes it wasn't law it was't conspiracy all those things happened yet he willingly went to the cross for us but he needed he needed the jews and the romans to conspire to do it that's right i was thinking this morning doc do you think jesus still thinks about the pain and the horror that he experienced on the cross? You know, on the one hand, I'd have to think that he does because it was love

that put him on the cross and so he knew the pain that he experienced. So I would have to think that he does at some level we can't comprehend that because we're we're human flesh we we we couldn't do that but does he feel that does he feel that pain now when we sin. Look, when we sin, we're reminding him of why he went to the cross. Yeah, when he looks at his hands and his feet

and sees the scars, the scars are there. Yes. Will they be there after the consummation of all things? Just don't know. I don't know of any scripture that says one way or the other. I know. I know. I'm just wondering. Is there a reason after he returns and sets up his kingdom in its full glory, is there any reason for the scars to remain? Because there will never again be sin

nor need for sacrifice. I want to mention the mention of all the chief priests and elders of the people. That highlights the unity, the determination among the Jewish leadership. They were all involved. All the chief priests and the elders of the people. So there was a collective responsibility for Jesus' condemnation. Verse 2, And when they had him bound, they led him away and delivered him to Pontius Pilate, the governor.

So Jesus already was bound at his initial arrest in the garden. He was most likely unbound during his examination before the high priest, and then bound again as he was led to Pilate. This act of binding Jesus. They were perp walking him. It was done to symbolize that he was being treated as a dangerous criminal. They wanted public reproach as he was paraded through the streets. I just, I mean, this is my own view, that I think they were untying his hands and tying his hands. When he's going out in public, hey, tie him up. We want everybody to see him.

He's a criminal. So the transfer to Pilate marked a significant shift in jurisdiction from Jewish authority to Roman authority, from religious to civil. And then here's one of the ridiculous hypocritical ironies of the Jewish leaders. Those who brought Jesus to Pilate did not enter the palace themselves because they wanted to avoid defilement. Because it was passover you have these religious hypocrites like i can't i can't take this prisoner into the roman palace because i would be defiled religiously and i can't go to passover then but i can take this guy in who happens to be the son of God and turn him over to be killed. That doesn't defile me. Just going into the building would defile me. See, again,

there's religion. Yeah. How do people think like this? You're delivering an innocent man. Just, I mean, forget that he's the son of God he's innocent just on that matter it's a sin but this innocent man is the son of god and you're taking him into the palace and you're worried that your entry into a roman building is going to religiously defile you you're participating in a murder. This is how people justify their sins. Yes. So, Pilate was the Roman governor of Judea, procreator, and he was the representative of Tiberius, who was the emperor. His main job was maintaining order, tax collection, and oversight of judicial proceedings.

Right. That sums it up, the three things he was in charge of. Law and order, collecting taxes, and overseeing court cases. He really didn't have anything else to do. And he lived in Caesarea, which remember was named for Caesar, Caesarea. But he came to Jerusalem for major festivals like Passover to oversee events to make sure there was no unrest.

Right. You know, he knew, hey, there's going to be a lot of Jews in Jerusalem for that festival. I better get up there and just be in the palace in case I need to call out the National Guard. Right. so they the Jewish rulers themselves wanted to execute Jesus for blasphemy

but they knew that not going to hold up so they had to persuade Pilate to execute Jesus on violation of Roman law. And so they're framing Jesus as a political insurrectionist. He's a January 6th insurrectionist. Pilate, this man would lead people into your palace.

This man is dangerous. He calls himself the king of the Jews. We renounce him. He's not our king, but he's stirring up people out here. They believe he's the king of the Jews. You're going to have to do something about this man. So Pilate could not ignore these accusations. What if this got back to Tiberius yes what if this Jesus really did lead an insurrection and word got back to Tiberius well then Pilate would be executed and these Jews knew what they were doing. They're going to put

Pilate in a corner. He's going to do something for his own skin. Which is to protect himself. Verse 3, Then Judas, which had betrayed him, when he saw that he was condemned, repented himself and brought again the 30 pieces of silver to the chief priests and elders. Notice Judas is now called, he's not a disciple, he's the betrayer.

Yes. He's not even called one of the disciples in earlier verses in Matthew he's he's always identified as one of the disciples now he's become the betrayer. So there's now everlasting guilt and blame associated with the name of Judas. Judas now represents, for eternity, treachery. It says Judas, when he saw that Jesus was condemned, repented himself. Well, what does that mean, he repented? So the King James translators used the word repented.

But the Greek does not use the word repented as the way that we in English nations understand that word. Yes. It would be better to say he was remorseful. He was sorry. There are two Greek words that indicate repentance, but at different degrees. This Greek word means, like I said, sorrow, remorsefulness, guilt. The other Greek word means true repentance, means turning away from your sin and going a new direction,

a change of mind, a change of heart. So Judas did not repent in the sense that he cried out to God for forgiveness. Right. It was repentance unto salvation. It was repentance as in I did something wrong. Yes. And that you were condemning yourself. Yes.

But not seeking reconciliation with God. I think the key word is anguish. Yes, go ahead, Doc. He repented himself. Yes. He felt anguish over the consequences of his actions.

But he did not ask God for forgiveness. So his remorse was triggered by seeing that Jesus was condemned. He now knows how far it's gone. He knew what was going to happen in the beginning, but now it's hitting. It's hitting hard. They're going to kill Jesus. And, you know, maybe, you know, some scholars debate whether Judas fully anticipated the full consequences of his betrayal.

What did he think they were going to do to him? Just lock him up? Put him under house arrest? And some commentators think that Judas did this in order to force Jesus to declare himself a king and to be the king, the one who could call down 10 000 angels that's that's a that's a good possibility because he was yeah he was a zealot but something's changed now he sees that his action has led to the arrest and condemnation of jesus and they're going to execute

jesus yes so i would say doc he he didn't intend for jesus to die he had another motive he had another motive in the betrayal and because he was a zionist zealot i i think you're right on that speculation that he was he was hoping he was gambling man if i set jesus up like this he's just gonna he'll pull his robe out and he's gonna say super jew on it and he's he's gonna become superman and he's going to show them what he can do. But that's not what Jesus did. Jesus is being led to his execution. And now Judas is anguished. His soul is gripped with sorrow, and he's condemning himself.

So he returns the 30 pieces of silver remember 30 pieces of silver was the the official amount under mosaic law for the value of a slave so jesus was equated as a slave he's no he's no more valuable to us than a slave. And the Jewish leader said, "'Hey, you know what the law says, "'30 pieces of silver, "'that's the maximum you can charge for a slave. "'We'll give you the max.

"'We'll give you the 30 pieces of silver. "'He's no more important to us than a slave. So now he returns the 30 pieces of silver because he's tormented by his conscience. Once those coins, at one time he coveted those 30 pieces of silver. Now, they become unbearable. He's repulsed by it. Have you ever had something you were after, and then when after you got it, you wish you never bought it? That's where Judas was at. He regretted the day he ever took possession of 30 pieces of silver. I don't know whether to tell the story or not. Years ago there was a man, we had moved into a property, had a building, 12,000 square foot building, perfect for a church, parking lot, everything, fence, the barn, everything.

And we found out very quickly as we were unpacking our trucks, that our next door neighbor coveted that land and let us know he was gonna take it from us. He told us that on the day we arrived. He told us, he said, that's my land. I go, how could it be your land when I got a contract? He goes, well, the man that's selling this land to you he cheated me and I'm gonna get that land to make it make it even and I'm not kidding you for three years for three years he did everything he could to

steal that land okay and he finally got. And the Holy Spirit told me, he said, just let him have it. Just walk away. Let's walk away. Let him take it. Let him take it. Okay. He'd filed all kinds of lawsuits and everything, not against us, but against the man who sold the land to us. And it got tied up in court. It was a mess, terrible mess. Several years later, and we moved to Florida and the Lord blessed us, gave us a brand new building and everything, blessed us. Several years later, Doc, that man, I was in Nashville, Tennessee, And that man was there at a meeting. And he ran up to me.

I saw him coming. I thought, oh, dear Lord, here he comes. Oh, I don't. I said, what is this? I don't want to deal with this guy right now. But Doc, when he got to me, he was weeping. He was weeping. He begged me to forgive him.

And I said, brother, I forgave you a long time ago. I don't hold anything against you. I forgave you years ago. And then he told me that his daughter died. Two weeks before this meeting in Nashville, two weeks before, his daughter died. And even though he didn't say it, I later was given information. I felt that she had committed suicide. And I have a feeling, Doc, again, no information, no proof. I have a feeling that she left a suicide note that probably mentioned what he did to us. Because she was very grieved and ashamed of her father's behavior before we left.

I knew that. And I think what I'm saying here is the man got what he coveted. But in the end, it made him sick. You see what I'm saying? Yes. He got what he wanted. But when he got it, it made him throw up this is

where Judas was at he got what he wanted he got his 30 pieces of silver now he wants to throw up he knows he did something wrong, something horrible. But he's not at the place of asking God to forgive him. His guilt was so much, so deep, I guess he believed God couldn't forgive him. And I've seen people get in that state that they do something so bad that they think, God can't forgive me.

I'm going to commit suicide. Right. There is no sin except blasphemy of the Holy Spirit that can't be forgiven. Don't ever have that idea that you did something in the past that God won't forgive. And my opinion of blasphemy of the Holy Spirit is the total rejection of Jesus Christ,

because how can you be forgiven of the rejection of jesus christ that's the ultimate sin you've rejected the one who can forgive you there's no forgiveness for it see what i'm saying you how can how can there be forgiveness of rejecting the one the only one who can forgive you. Therefore, there is no forgiveness. But I've seen people become so remorseful, so ashamed of their behavior that they want to die instead of going to God because they're ashamed of what they did. And the irony is that they'll have to stand before God with their shame too.

Yes. So, you know, don't ever let yourself or anybody else be overcome with grief and sorrow and guilt and self-condemnation, thinking that you can't be forgiven. True repentance involves turning towards God. Look, Peter, Peter betrayed Jesus. Yes. He denied him. He didn't betray him. He denied him three times,

but he was forgiven. I mean, Peter did something horrible. Remember, he wept bitterly when the rooster crowed Peter wept he didn't just shed some tears he sobbed he broke down he laid on the ground and wept and pounded his fist. He knew he did something wrong, but he was forgiven. So Judas was tormented by this crushing burden of unconfessed sin. And his regret is all self-focused. He returned the silver, but he didn't ask for forgiveness from Jesus.

And so his despair led him to self-murder. That's what suicide is. It's self-murder. Verse 4. Where am I at on time doctor okay yeah we still have okay all right good minutes what's for saying I have sinned in that I have betrayed innocent blood and they said what is that to us see thou to that modern English's I have sinned in that I had betrayed innocent blood but they said

what's that to us you see to it so he's nowas has now openly confessed his sin i have sinned he's halfway home to forgiveness recognizing your sin and confessing it you're halfway there yes just went to the wrong people yeah they said who cares what do we care if you sin think about that these are religious leaders and they said why do you think we care that you sinned are you serious you're the religious leaders of israel and you just said i don't care if you sinned we don't care if you sin it's passover we don't care what are you. We don't care if you sin. It's Passover. We don't care. What are you doing here at Passover? Passover, which is about redemption.

And these guys say, we don't care you sin. That's your problem. You take care of it. Don't come to us because you sin. He calls Jesus innocent blood he recognizes Jesus is blameless right and Rick you said something really important he was halfway there he recognized

I've sinned I've betrayed innocent blood he recognized his sin first then he confessed his sin first and he's confessed his sin he was almost there all you need to do is just finish the sentence father forgive me yes that's it that's all he had to do I have known people in my life, I've known people who I've asked, why aren't you saved? Why aren't you serving God? And yet I know that they believed in God.

And I remember one person saying to me, oh, Rick, many years ago, I promised God something and he he answered my prayers, and I didn't fulfill my promise, and I just can't face him. I go, but you're going to face him someday. Yes. Just ask him to forgive your failure to fulfill the vow you made to him. Oh, no, it was very, very serious. I did something terribly bad. I've talked to people like that. They believe in God.

They knew that Jesus was the Son of God, but they wouldn't accept his forgiveness. And they knew that they sinned. And they knew that they needed forgiveness for their sins, and yet would not ask for forgiveness. Their guilt, and yet would not ask for forgiveness. Their guilt would not allow them to ask for forgiveness. And isn't that pride?

Yeah. So Judas confesses his sin of betraying Jesus. He acknowledges his wrongdoing. I have sinned. He named the sin. I have sinned in betraying he's doing all the right things and he's he's confessing to the right people he went to the religious leaders and he tried to make amends too he went went to confession. Didn't he go to confession?

Brought the money back. Brought the money back. He made restitution. He's got everything going for him at this point. Except he didn't complete the sentence. He didn't ask God to forgive him. Right. So.

And think about this. This all took place in the temple. In the temple. In the temple itself. No wonder God tore it down in 70 AD. Doc, that was the moment. I think the demolition order was signed in heaven. They tear this down in 70 AD.

Well, later in the day, God tore the curtain in two. He sure did. So the response from the religious leaders was dismissive. It was callous, cold-hearted, no compassion. And these are the religious leaders. Can you imagine what the hard-hearted people were like? No concern for Judas' soul. No concern for his state of mind.

This could have been Judas' turning point. Those men should have hugged him. They should have said, you know, Judas, you're right. We're all guilty. We got to stop what we're doing. We're all sinning. But see, they were cold towards him because had they shown compassion they

would have they would have been forced to admit to themselves that they were sinning they had made up their mind they're carrying out this sin there is nobody going to stop them from fulfilling the sin they had in their mind. So, the rejection by the religious leaders fueled Judas' hopelessness, took him deeper into despair when he realized he had no one to turn to. Jesus is under arrest and the religious leaders are the ones who are killing him.

Who am I going to go to? What is that to us? I mean, what a cold statement to make to a man who's weeping and begging for forgiveness. No, he's not begging for forgiveness. A man that's weeping over his mistakes. So cold hearted. Go to verse 5 and he cast down the pieces of silver in the temple

and departed and went and hanged himself so he's overwhelmed by the weight of his betrayal he throws the 30 pieces of silver into the temple the blood money went flying across the floor of

the religious temple of Judaism. Rick, can you hear the coin sitting on the floor of the temple yes yes yes and they were probably people in around the area who's heard that noise of silver coins skipping across the marble floor I mean you dropped 30 pieces of silver you're going to hear it and it just wasn't dropped it was thrown he threw the silver to rid himself of the physical evidence

of his sin get it away from me but his remorse was no more than worldly sorrow. He still did not turn to God. What prevented Judas from turning to God? What was it? He spent three and a half years with jesus and now in his worst hour he can't turn to god

um the word the greek word for temple here means the sanctuary the holiest part of the temple so the coins were thrown in the holiest part of the temple he's repeating the crime think of a bank robber taking the money back throwing it on the floor of the bank i'm sorry but the bank is saying we don't want your money yeah what's that to us you said you robbed a bank who cares so he's he's now driven by despair he's he's he's literally going out of his mind remember Satan had entered into him there's the reason he couldn't ask for forgiveness doc that's the reason Satan had entered into him yes he was unable to ask for forgiveness because Satan took control of him.

So he hanged himself. The Greek word means strangulation. Now, there is a, in the book of Acts, chapter 1, verse 18, there's a different account of Judas' death. It says, now this man purchased a field with the reward of iniquity, and falling headlong, he burst asunder in Matthew 27, he died by hanging, but in Acts 1, his intestines burst open. Yeah, I remember arguments about that back in Bible college.

Alright, I'm hoping you did. So I'm going to let you run with it. The two aren't contradictory. If you hang yourself and you drop off a cliff, your bowels are going to come out. Yes, I agree, Doc. You get a star. Oh, agree, Doc. You get a star.

Oh, okay, good. I was hoping for a cookie, but a star. And a cookie. You get a cookie also. No, that's my explanation. The rope broke, and he went headfirst down a cliff and split apart. Right. But here's the irony of it. He hung himself in the place that the priest bought the field with. That one is hard to comprehend, isn't it? Yeah. But they did that to fulfill the scripture out of zechariah

this all had had to fulfill scripture once again you see the machinations of man and the actions of man and everything that they do and yet the sovereignty of god in all of this too and god's foreknowledge of everything that's going to happen and reveals this to his prophets. And the prophets reveal it to the people in order to verify what God had done. God did this. So, Doc, pull up Zechariah 11, verses 12, 13.

So our class will hear that prophecy in the Old Testament. Zechariah 11, verses 12 13 okay so our class will hear that prophecy in the old testament zechariah 11 verses 12 and 13. all right uh zechariah 11 12 and 13 king james and i said unto them if ye think good give me my price and if not forbear so they weighed for my price. 30 pieces of silver. And the Lord said unto me. Cast it unto the potter. A goodly price. That I was prized at of them. And I took the 30 pieces of silver.

And cast them to the potter. In the house of the Lord. In the house of the Lord. In the temple. That gives me goosebumps just reading it. I know. So back when that happened centuries earlier, do you think anybody said, hey, Zech, what was that all about? I mean, what was that about about what did you just do i don't know something came over me and i did it and i said it i felt the holy ghost on me not knowing this is the way it's going to play out centuries later but god was building the trail of evidence that Jesus Christ is the prophesied Messiah.

Even the man who betrayed him died according to prophecy. Go ahead, Doc. Now, as far as the field itself is concerned, Acts chapter 1 says that this man purchased the field. But Matthew says it was the priest. But there's a reconciliation that the priest and the Jewish leaders bought the field in Judas' name. So there's no conflict in that. And so all these cats trying to find conflicts in the scripture and everything.

You've got to have the whole counsel of God. You can't just pick and choose what you want and say, well, look at this. No, you've got to have all the scripture related to it. And so, okay, still fulfilled prophecy. We got four minutes to do four verses. And the chief priest took the silver pieces and said, it is not lawful for us to put them into the treasury because it is the price of blood. Here we go with religion again. We can't put that money back into the treasury of Judaism because we used it to betray an innocent man. How warped can you be in your thinking? Yes. It would be unlawful.

We'd be breaking religious rules if we retrie retrieve that money and put it back into the church treasury we use that money for a sin i mean it would be like today a pastor saying you know and the elder saying well let's not put that money back in the church treasury we use that money to do something that was wrong if we put that money back in the church treasury. We used that money to do something that was wrong. If we put that money back in the treasury, we would be violating the Bible.

I mean, you're warped to think like that. And they couldn't purchase it because the priests weren't allowed to own land. Right. So that's why they had to do it because the priests weren't allowed to own land. Right. So that's why they had to do it in Judas' name. So they exhibited scrupulous adherence to ceremonial laws. But sin.

But sin by killing the Son of God. Jesus. Again, it's religion. It's what religion will do to you. It will distort your sense of righteousness. Verse 7, And they took counsel and bought with them the potter's field to bury strangers in. So now they're having another meeting to determine how to handle the blood money. We've got to come up with a proper religious solution to this blood money. What can we do we'll buy a piece of land and we'll use that land to bury strangers in who don't have a family don't have anyone for the funeral

you know that's where we'll stick them but they they treated it like a dump, though. Yes, yeah, sure. It was a burial ground for homeless people, strangers, you know, invalids, people that had nobody to bury them. But take them out there and throw them in that field. That's a nice, good religious thing. And we'll use this blood money to do it. That's how they use their religious mind

to justify receiving the money back. Well, we didn't put it in the church treasury. We did a transaction for good causes. We did a good work with that bad money. They laundered the money.

Wherefore the field was called the field of blood unto this day. Yes. Unto this day. Doc, can you go to it today can you find it today yeah there's a monastery that actually sits on the site today

the monastery of St. Onufrius and so you can actually go to the field of blood at least that's what the tradition says it is and so but yeah you can actually go to that place today and there are burial caves there that you know know, go back, of course, to the time of Christ. And so, but yes.

And here's something interesting, too. That place that's the field of blood was also the place that back in the Old Testament that the Jews did child sacrifice to Moloch so it's in the Hymn and Valley so it's always been a place of at least up to that time a place of cursing a place of they nicknamed it Gehenna it wasn't where Gehenna was, but they would say it was like hell, okay? Because there would be dead bodies there. There'd be refuse there. There'd be everything there. And so you won't find dead bodies lying around today or anything, but there are still tombs, and there's a monastery there to this day.

So verse 9, Then was fulfilled that which was spoken by Jeremiah the prophet, saying, and they took the 30 pieces of silver, the price of him that was valued, whom they of the children of Israel did value. So this goes back to the prophecy of Zechariah. And all this is divine orchestration.

It shows the marvelous working of almighty god in orchestrating even the death of his son that it was prophesied centuries before it happened and they gave them for the potter's field as the Lord appointed me.
