Today is Monday, February 5th, 2024. The Orlando Sun Sentinel reported that the state of Florida was ordered by a federal court to stop enforcing its law that prohibits people from China from owning real estate in the Sunshine State. A three-judge panel of the 11th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals declined to issue a full injunction against the state law until it hears legal arguments in April. However, the federal court said the plaintiffs have shown a substantial likelihood of success on their claim that

Starting point is 00:01:53 Florida's law is preempted by the Federal Foreign Investment Risk Review Modernization Act. The court said the U.S. law takes precedence over the state law. The federal law includes what is known as the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States. The committee has power to review real estate transactions involving four plaintiffs joined together to challenge the state law championed by Governor Ron DeSantis, who vowed to curb the purchase of land in Florida by people connected to the Chinese Communist Party. Doc Burkhardt is here with me. talking today about the U.S. border and about the obvious flood of Chinese influence inside America in the purchase of land, the building of factories, and the thousands of Chinese migrants coming over the border every week. So we'll start with this report by News Nation. China's U.S. land grab is a key issue in state elections. So, Doc, did you ever think you'd see the day that people would

Starting point is 00:03:19 campaign saying, if I'm elected governor, I will stop the Chinese Communist Party from buying up our state. How that even started in the first place is beyond me. How it's been allowed to go on this long that you have to – and it's a debate. Yes. It's not – this should be something that should be – every American should be united saying, yes, on this issue, we are in one accord but it's controversial it is and i i actually have a relation with this because i have a family member that's on the economic development board in the midwest and they've been dealing with this issue since the early 2000s initially

Starting point is 00:04:00 they welcomed the chinese investment millions of dollars to build plants and things like that and buy up farmland because it was a depressed time. But now we're more aware of the Chinese intelligence influence in the world. And so the pendulum has swung back the other way. But they opened the door to it decades ago. Yes. And the camel's got more than his nose under the tent yes and so now it's becoming a a heated controversial political issue in gubernatorial races and you have people protesting against these efforts to stop the chinese communist party from buying up land

Starting point is 00:04:41 you have people in america in America protesting that these laws are racist, that they're discriminatory against Asians. We're not talking about Asian. No Asian American is prohibited from buying land. We're talking about Chinese nationals, people who are members of the China Communist Party, people who are working for the Chinese government or the PLA, we're talking about stopping them from buying land. Has nothing to do with stopping Asians. No. Any Asian American can buy land.

Starting point is 00:05:14 But they make it that issue. Of course. But who's funding the propaganda campaign? Who's behind the propaganda? You know, the Floridaida law they had protests there were people in florida protesting the state law in florida saying that it was it was discriminatory it was a racist law it was fascist to stop members of the china communist party from owning land in florida well let's take a look at news nation

Starting point is 00:05:41 issued this story says governor's races across the nation are seeing an impact by the rise of Chinese farmland purchases in the U.S., posing a possible threat to what? The nation's food supply. Right. And national security. Doc, several years ago, China purchased Smithfield. Yes. The biggest producer of pork in the United States. It's owned by China now in America.

Starting point is 00:06:12 Our biggest pork producer is owned by China. They can take all of the meat and move it to China, export it. They own it. They could cut off all pork supply to America that comes out of Smithfield. If they said, our people need it,

Starting point is 00:06:34 there's a global food shortage, we're moving all of the pork that's controlled by Smithfield, we're going to export it to China. There's nothing we can do to stop them. That's what's happening in this country. The Chinese are buying the farmlands

Starting point is 00:06:51 and they're buying the food processing companies. So News Nation said, gubernatorial candidates on both sides of the political divide in at least four states, Indiana, Missouri, Montana, North Dakota, are shining a light on foreign adversaries buying up american farmland in indiana lieutenant governor suzanne crouch is raising awareness of a chinese company trying to buy farmland near a military base in a campaign

Starting point is 00:07:19 ad governor crouch tells uh lieutenant governor crouch tells voters that this is a top priority issue. She said, quote, When I saw that land next to our military sites, Naval Crane Warfare Center could be bought up. I stopped it. It's not only about food security. It's about national security. We don't want to be dependent on other foreign countries for what we eat and so we ought to be able to protect our farmland that it's extremely critical here in indiana and i'm fighting to do that news nation said the united states department of agriculture reports nearly 384 000 acres of farmland in america is owned by china listen Listen to this, Doc. Yes. In the past five years, Chinese ownership of American farmland has increased by 55%.

Starting point is 00:08:13 That's a significant increase in just five years. They've stepped up their purchase of farmland. This is a... It's so starkly evident i i don't even know why we're having a debate i i the only reason doc is that the chinese infiltration of america is so deep and so wide that the propaganda is so effective in this country that Americans have to wonder, do we support or oppose the Chinese Communist Party owning our farmland? That's how much the American mindset has turned to mush.

Starting point is 00:08:59 Or at least I would say the political leadership. But the political leadership is indecisive about it because they've got Chinese money in their bank account. That's it right there. I think the average American knows, hey, this is wrong. And they're assuming that our state and national leaders are stopping it. In fact, I think most American people just assume that it never happened because somebody was on the job. Now we're finding out nobody's been on the job. Nobody's been watching.

Starting point is 00:09:37 This has been going on for years and hardly anybody has stopped it. Well, because in the beginning we welcomed it. We wanted the money. We really did. I mean, that's at the heart of it right there. And it's hard to let go of the money, Rick. It really is. For a lot of these politicians, it's hard to let go of the money.

Starting point is 00:09:57 But now there's enough outcry among the electorate that politicians are starting to respond to this. Yeah. Hey, we've got a video from news nation this is number four um and and so this is this is based on the report that i just read read to you from news nation talking about how china's u.s farm land grab has become an issue in state races in 2024 let's watch chinese land purchases in the United States are grabbing the attention of gubernatorial candidates across the country. Our Emily Finn has been following this story and spoke with gubernatorial candidates on how they would solve the problem. Emily,

Starting point is 00:10:37 what are they sharing with you? Well, that's right, Mark. NewsNation has extensively covered China's efforts to buy up valuable American farmland, and now it is rising to the highest levels of elected state offices in the heartland as a major campaign issue. Candidates on both sides of the aisle, and at least four states who are running for governor, are shining a light on foreign adversaries buying up American farmland and the threats that poses to residents of their state. In Indiana, Lieutenant Governor Suzanne Crouch is running for governor, raising awareness of a Chinese company trying to buy farmland near a military base in a campaign ad. She tells us this issue is a top priority. When I saw that land next to our military sites, Naval Crane Warfare Center, could be bought up, I stopped it. It's not only about food security,

Starting point is 00:11:26 but it's about national security. We don't want to be dependent on other foreign countries for what we eat. And so being able to protect our farmland is extremely critical here in Indiana, and I'm fighting to do that. Over in Montana, Governor Greg Gianforte is running on a record of banning countries like China and Russia from purchasing agricultural land during his time in office. Even his Democrat rival, Ryan Bussey, tells News Nation this is an issue both parties agree on. We should be protecting our national security all the time. And obviously, about a year ago right now, we had a Chinese balloon, spy balloon, fly right over the middle of Montana. I don't know, it took several hours to cross the state. You know, I think that it is a bipartisan thing. And I'm in favor of

Starting point is 00:12:15 banning foreign adversaries from owning our farmland, absolutely. And yes, I think there's some national security implications. But again, I a it's a basic food security thing the usda reports nearly 384 000 acres of agricultural land in the u.s is already owned by the chinese over the past five years chinese ownership of american farmland has increased 55 marquee yeah and those leaders want to protect our home turf. Emily, thank you so much. Well, it's not just happening in Indiana, but all across the country in Oregon. We have this from Oregon Public Broadcasting. The Chinese billionaire owns hundreds of thousands of acres of Oregon timberland. And this is coming from the land report that was published last month. It says the Chinese billionaire and a California timber family have become among the largest private landowners in the U.S. following major purposes of Oregon

Starting point is 00:13:10 forests. And those findings come from the Land Report, a Dallas-based quarterly magazine that details annually the top 100 private landowners in the U.S. Now, the report found that Chinese billionaire and entrepreneur Tang Quan Chin became the second largest foreign owner of U.S. land following the purchase, though, through his investment company of nearly 200,000 acres of forest land in Klamath and Dushas counties nearly a decade ago. The Irving family of Canada is the largest foreign landowner with more than 1.2 million acres of timberland in Maine. Now, Chin's fortune comes from an online gaming company he founded in 1999 called Chanda Interactive Entertainment. And Chin's stake in Oregon has drawn the ire of U.S. Representative Lori Chavez de Ramer, an Oregon Republican who expressed concern over Chin's membership in the Chinese Communist Party. She said foreign ownership of United States land by our adversaries is a serious problem that has rightfully sparked unease among farmers, ranchers and foresters across the country. She said, I'm deeply concerned that a member of the Chinese Communist Party owns tens of thousands of forest acres, tens of thousands of forest land acres, one of our most precious and finite resources in my district.

Starting point is 00:14:29 So now, Rick, now this is coming to the forefront now with all these politicians only because of the outcry from just ordinary citizens. Yes. Like the balloon. Right. They knew, the Pentagon knew the balloon was flying over the United States. Right. They knew it was headed towards the United States. They tracked it.

Starting point is 00:14:49 They tracked it. They allowed it to make Circle 8s over military sites. Why? Because the highest levels of the Pentagon are traitors. It's just as simple as that. There's no other explanation. They're either traitors or the dumbest people who've ever been in a uniform. And either way, it's dangerous for the American people. The stock we've been sold out that's the only conclusion i can come to we have been sold out these freaks already know the deal was done doc there was a deal done i'm convinced of it i'm convinced a deal was made years ago. They financed our debt. The money going to Israel. What are we getting for our money? What are the American people getting for our money? Well, I'll tell you what we're getting.

Starting point is 00:16:35 We're getting judgment. That's what we're getting. We're getting judgment for killing innocent Palestinian children, babies and children. Folks, it's been, what, two weeks since the International Court of Justice issued their ruling telling Bibi the baby butcher, please, when you're bombing Gaza, just please try not to act genocidal. You can kill them. You can kill them, just don't act genocidal. You can kill them. You can kill them.

Starting point is 00:17:06 Just don't be genocidal. Well, in the past two weeks, 900 innocent Palestinians have been killed by Israel. The Biden administration watered down the vetting process for Chinese illegal immigrants. They made it easier for the Chinese to get in. I mean, it wasn't that hard to start with, Doc. I think they took it from about 40 questions down to five questions now. The 40 questions didn't even amount to anything. They still were letting them in.
