I'm Rick Wiles. Today is Monday, January 29, 2024. Wars and rumors of civil war. That's our theme today. Pressure is mounting on President Joe Biden to order a U.S. military attack on Iran following a drone attack on an American military installation in Jordan over the weekend that killed U.S. soldiers. At the same time, America's political leftists are claiming that Trump supporters are preparing to start a civil war in America over the issue of the U.S.-Mexico border.

Let's start with the border. Dr. Burkhardt is here with me. Here is the New York Post article. Convoy claiming to be God's army heading to Texas to protest border crisis. Describes it as a biblical monumental moment. The Post article says a group of a group whose members have described themselves as God's army is heading to the southern border to protest record number numbers of migrants illegally crossing over from Mexico. Organizers with the take our border back say they want to stand up to globalists who they believe are conspiring to let migrants illegally flood the country again this is the new york post article they quote one organizer who told vice news this is a biblical monumental moment that's been put together by god we are besieged on all sides by dark forces of evil. The group is planning a convoy

set to leave Virginia Beach on Monday, that's today, for Texas, followed by three rallies on February 3rd at sites near Eagle Pass, Texas, Yuma, Arizona, and another one in California. So I want to show you the website for Take Our Border Back. And, Doc, this really has the political left really worked up. It really does.

Can you imagine American citizens forming a convoy? What has been coming up from South America for the past 20 years? An invasion. Convoys. Yes. How many times have we seen news headlines that said convoy moving through Central America? They'll use that word too.

Convoy. But the moment American citizens organize and form a convoy to the border, suddenly these are people that want to start a civil war. Right. Well, what about the people coming across the border illegally? What are they trying to do? And we now know that most of them are military age males. Last week, Doc, there was a retired FBI official who said, look, this is a serious national security issue. Most of these migrants that are now coming to say, wait a minute, there's something going on. We actually have an army.

There's a Trojan horse inside the country. I've been saying Trojan horse for decades. Right. But if you would watch the mainstream media outlets, it's women and children that are coming across the border. No, they're fighting age men. That's right. And not Ukrainian age men. From over 180 countries, mind you.

You know, the picture is they're all from Nicaragua or Guatemala or Venezuela. No, that's not the case at all. They're Chinese that are coming in. They're Somalians that are coming in. They're coming from all over the world across the southern border. Doc, there's a young man you know who I'm talking about, loves True News, watches us all the time. He lives in another country. He really wants to visit us.

He's an outstanding young man. He wants to visit us. He cannot get a visa. Yes. The U.S. consulate in his country turns him down every time he asks for a visa. He just wants to come here on a short vacation, visit us here at True News,

and he's turned down. I just joke with him. I say, you know what you should do? Fly into Mexico and walk across the border. They'll put you on a bus and bring you here. Right. Maybe even pay for your hotel once you get here. Right, because he's,

you know what? He's fighting age, young male. Single, fighting age. He would fit the profile to come in. Put him on a bus, put him on a plane, fly him somewhere in the United States. But if you try to do the legal way,

you get turned down. By the way, how is it that they're able to fly in the United States? The U.S. government takes care of them. Fly inside the U.S.? But when you fly, what do you have to do? You have to present an official government-issued

ID. They don't't they're allowed to board planes and they're just they're flown compliments of the u.s government doc this isn't a crisis it's an invasion and it's a planned invasion it's an implosion of our country there's not a border crisis in the sense that when you say a crisis that means like oh we don't know what to do there's a crisis you know hey if the water line breaks in my house that's a crisis but if somebody cuts the line that's a crime that's a crime so we don't have a crisis we have a crime what's taking place at the border is a deliberate policy of the ruling class in america to implode the united states of america

Shut the door and lock it. But the powers that be in Washington don't seem to get that, Rick. They haven't for decades.

I mean, this is – It's not that – Doc, again, look at the terminology of our discussion, that they don't get it. They do get it. You're right. They do. They do get it. They're deliberately doing this to our

country look what's going on in texas governor abbott the the state police the national guard of texas putting up barbed wire on the texas side of the board on the texas side and what's biden doing he's ordering federal agents to cut the wire. He got a Supreme Court ruling last week that says that they can cut the wire. Two of the so-called conservatives. Yeah, Amy Coney Barrett and. Roberts. Roberts, yes.

Sided. Sided with the leftist judges and said the feds can cut the wire. What's going on right now, and we're going to talk about this here in a moment, is it appears there's going to be a confrontation between National Guard troops and federal agents. And not just Texas National Guard. Right now there are, I think, nine states that are sending, including Florida, sending National Guard troops to Texas. Yes. And that number could go up to 25 states here soon.

Crossing from the west, crossing from the west crossing from california to texas there's uh there's one more uh going down to yuma anyhow you can go to the website and look at the roots uh doc i'm hearing numbers that and i haven't been able to confirm the numbers with anyone the number of trucks, if this is true, we're going to outdo the French farmers and the German farmers. This is going to be a major event. If the number of trucks that I heard are going to truly participate, It's an astronomical figure.

I mean, I've heard figures in the hundreds of thousands of trucks. And again, I've not been able to verify it. These are numbers that are floating around on the Internet. You know, I've also seen people have sent me photographs of supposedly U.S. armored vehicles moving towards Texas. Again, I've not been able to confirm whether any of these things are true. I would think that if there were armored vehicles

moving through the state of Texas, Texans would be talking about it. I'm not certain that that's happening, but I'm not going to rule it out. So how is the one more, I'll show you the declaration from the organization. They're very clear this is not a violent organization. It is not a call to arms.

It is a call to protest, to protest peacefully and to tell the ruling class of America that the American people have run out of patience and they want the border sealed. That's what this is about. Now, no, they use the words peaceful assembly there, and they say that. That's our constitutional right to peacefully assemble. But on the left, how are they thinking about this? Well, they're spinning it as this is an armed insurrection. And so you'll see the first one. This is Wired magazine.

Far right extremists are organizing an armed convoy to the Texas border. You mean they're carrying firearms as their constitutional right? I mean, I have a firearm on me right now. Does that mean I'm in an armed convoy? No. What does that mean? It means I'm an American citizen. I have a Second Amendment constitutional right to bear arms.

The people in this convoy have a constitutional right to bear arms. But Wired Magazine, which is supposed to be writing about technology, is dabbling in politics saying these are far-right extremists. You mean because you want the border closed, that makes you an extremist? You know, according to the left, if you even want a border. You're an extremist. See, Doc, we're way past the idea of closing the border. If you want a border, you're an extremist.

You're an extremist. You're a racist. What else are you? You know, whatever label they want to throw at you. Because the globalist agenda for decades, many, many decades, has been to eliminate borders. Specifically the American border. Specifically. They tried under George W. Bush to create the North American Union, One country from Canada to Mexico.

We rose up, many of us, and we opposed it. That's 20 years ago. We fought it. We stopped it. They wanted to introduce the Amero, common currency. We rose up and we fought it and we stopped it. But these guys never stop on their end. They just regroup and they find a way to continue to whittle down the patience of the American people.

Oh, it's a red truck. And right-wing media figures, right-wing media celebrities, talk show hosts, rally behind the Take Our Border Back convoy. Look at this, Doc.

This is scary now. The convoy is organized by election deniers and anti-vaxxers. Oh, my gosh. Those are even worse, Rick. I don't even you would even want you want a your child to be near an election denier i mean the next thing they're going to do is become a climate denier and an anti-vaxxer see how they're spinning it if you're in that convoy, you're an election denier. You're an anti-vaxxer. You're

really weird and evil. Why would you be in that convoy of red trucks? Look at that devil-looking trucks. Oh, devil-looking trucks. The barbed wire behind it there. Really scary-looking trucks. They just

deliberately manipulate you. Who funds Media Matters? George Soros. The Open Society Foundation. What does he want? An open society. He wants no borders. I personally believe Soros,

and I've said this for many years, I believe Soros has been funding the migrant convoys. Do you think they walk from South America to Mexico? But Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders of Arkansas is standing with Governor Abbott of Texas saying we stand with her. By the way, she's in the short list for vice presidential

picks for Donald Trump, according to the... No, that's just, that's all for show, Doc. Yeah, I know. Do you know how that game works? All right. So as you get close to the convention, the leading candidate starts deliberately floating lists. All right.

The campaign officials under the candidate, they start floating these lists. It's for flattery. It's the flatter. I'm not taking anything away from Sarah Huckabee Sanders. She'd make a great vice president. I don't have any problem with that at all. But it's simply to flatter her. But then they'll tell Tim Scott, you're on the list too.

And they'll just have a group of people and they'll put them on the list. And actually, for some politicians who know they're not going to be chosen, they just want to get on the list. Just for the ego. Just for the ego. Just for the career boost.

I was mentioned. You know, back there in 2024, Trump was thinking about me as a vice president. That way, for several years, you'll get articles saying, nearly nominated. A potential VP. Seriously considered for the 2024 ticket. That's how the game works. Do you see one of the other names that was floated out over the weekend? Robert Kennedy.

Oh, yes. That there were. That the Trump campaign has already talked to Kennedy about vice presidency. Now, that one I take seriously. That one I take very seriously. Most likely. But who he's going to choose is not on the list. I believe that.

The list is for flattery. Okay. So, number eight. This is Newsweek. Texas Lieutenant Governor responds to question about possible civil war. Wait a minute. We're just talking about closing the border and preventing millions of illegal immigrants from crossing the border. Who brought up the civil war?

Who said anything about civil war? Well, in this case, Newsweek.week yes it was newsweek and the left and the open border people the people who what they're really saying is if you are serious hey you americans if you're serious this time about imposing a border we got rid of the see in their mind we got rid of the border this the fight is no longer about closing the border. It's about establishing a border. We lost the border years ago, folks. There hasn't been a border for 20 years.

What you're fighting about now is to reestablish a border. Isn't that it, Rick? And they're saying, we'll go to war with you. You dare reinstate the American border and we will go to war with you. As Joe Biden said, remember, we've got F-16s. Yes. We've got nukes. Yes.

Joe Biden, I mean, if you take him seriously seriously he's prepared to nuke Texas and they're telling you right now you demand a border and we will go to war with you there's nobody on our side talking about a civil war nobody but they want the civil war

They're making millions and millions of dollars off of Joe Biden. Don't mess with Texas. We're serious about securing our border. And I'm glad the president stood down on Friday and did not confront us. That would be the wrong thing to do.

We don't want a confrontation. And they shouldn't want a confrontation. Well, that's a good point. Let us do our job. Because, I mean, what is this going to turn into a civil war? I mean, you've got the Texas rights versus federal rights, both sides with guns. And we believe constitutionally we are right. We have a right to defend our citizens. We have a right to defend this country. And we're just doing the job. This whole idea of Shelby Park, that they would come there, is just ludicrous.

Look, these young men and women who serve our National Guard and our DPS, these are the best of the best. Why would he want to send anyone down to confront them? I'm glad they stepped down, but they need to do the job. And the only reason he's paying attention now is because the election in November. Yeah, that's the only reason he's paying attention. Real quick. But Biden would spend $100 billion and risk nuclear war with Russia to defend Ukraine's border. That's right. But he'll threaten civil war with Texas if Texas tries to defend its border.

This is so absolutely crazy. Texas or excuse me, Oklahoma Governor Kevin Stitt was on Newsmax and he also was asked about civil war. Let's watch. There's rumblings that Joe Biden should or may actually federalize the National Guard. Take that power away from Greg Abbott. Let's say this showdown. I mean, that's what it is. It's a showdown. It's a showdown of power and loyalties and constitutionality. Let's say he does that. How many people say, no, you know what? Screw you, Biden administration. And how many people stay and fight with Texas versus the federal things? And does that put us on course for a force on force conflict? I mean, right now you've got the federal agents that are cutting the wire, and then you've got the Texas National Guard on orders to put up wire. I mean, this is a powder keg worth of tension. So it's a very weird situation. We certainly stand with Texas on their right to defend themselves. But Biden's going to be in a

tough situation. So in other words, he's going to try to federalize these troops. In other words, put them on federal orders. And so now their allegiance technically goes to the president of the United States instead of the governor. And, of course, I think a lot of Texans, these are still Texans that are weak in, you know, they're in the National Guards. They do one week in a month or when they get called up on duties by the governor. And I think they would be in a difficult situation to protect their homeland or to follow what Biden's saying. I literally open it. Very interesting. But then, you know, then you've got Oklahoma and Florida and Tennessee and you got all these other states that would send our National Guard to help and to support the efforts of Governor Abbott.

Because every state is a border state. You talked about fentanyl. The deaths in Oklahoma since I've taken office are up 500 percent. And we know that's coming across the southern border. And then you think about the terrorists. Again, I just don't know what their endgame is here. And I hope American people really wake up to what's happening. Well, Governor, I can tell you the endgame. The endgame is to destroy the United States of America. Right. Why is it so hard for these people to see it? Because it's so

far out of their head to think that the United States government would declare war on its people. You have Texas officials putting up wire to stop an invasion of millions. We're in the millions now coming across each year, millions. Texas officials are putting up wire to stop them, and the U.S. government is physically cutting the wire. There's only one conclusion. Washington wants the invasion that is an impeachable offense the republicans are in control of the house impeach joe biden impeach him for treason he is not defending the country he's working to bring in a foreign army yes who does he work for china who owns the biden family china why is this so hard to figure out

it doc it's simple and then there's something the governor said there is that biden will federalize the texas national guard what does that mean okay federalize the Texas National Guard. What does that mean? Okay, so the National Guard in peacetime functions as, you know, emergency support, somewhat military support within the confines of a state, maybe even go and do training overseas alongside regular army. But, and this has been since the 80s, the National Guard can be what they call federalized. In other words, that at any time, the President of the United States, peacetime or wartime, he can federalize certain components of the State National Guard in any state and make them basically part of the U.S. Army. So imagine you have a conflict here.

You're in the Texas National Guard. You've been ordered by Governor Greg Abbott, protect the border. And then all of a sudden one day you get an order from your commanding officer, gentlemen, we have now been federalized. We are now part of the U.S. Army. Your loyalty now is to President Joe Biden. And your job now is to cut the wire. Yes. So it was George Herbert Walker Bush who made that change. Yes. Up until Papa Bush, National Guard troops were responsible to the governor of each state. Right.

Then George Herbert Walker Bush got a bill passed in Congress back in the late 80s to federalize the National Guard. Right. Giving the president the right to federalize it. Because he wanted to go to war in Iraq. And that's exactly why.

That was the whole purpose of it, is to provide... He needed troops. You got it. Well, will Texas National Guard troops defy the Pentagon? I'm telling you, this could be a real problem coming up here very, very soon. Well, I'll tell you who's watching it, and that's Dmitry Medvedev in Russia. He sure is.

And here's Newsweek. Putin ally ominously suggests Texas could launch civil war in the U.S. He sent a tweet out on his Telegram channel. I think it was Friday or Saturday. I read it. You know, he's he's paying close attention to this. And he's having a little bit of fun with it. He's sitting over in Moscow saying, look at what's happening over in the U.S. They might have a civil war. America may split apart.

You mean just like the U.S., the CIA has tried to start revolutions in Russia? And about half the countries in the world. So they're having a little bit of fun with what's going on here. I want to take, well, there's one more story. Yeah, I saw this one. This is a Bitcoin. You saw this one, Doc. Tell me about it.

And the title kind of speaks for itself. Amid rising national divorce talks, exploring the potential impact on U.S. dollar in a hypothetical second civil war. Now, when the money folks start talking about civil war, that's when it gets serious. Really, it moves beyond the hypothetical at that point. That means that civil war is being considered by some people, and they're trying to figure out, well, how do I protect my money if there's a civil war? National divorce talks. That's how far it's moved. And yet, what was it, 2018?

I said the left was pushing this country to civil war and the news media spread my picture and name all over the Internet. That radical Florida preacher calls for civil war. I didn't call for it. I was saying, if we keep going this direction, we're going to have a civil war. Now they're talking about it. Yes. That's how far we've gone doc that in 2018 if you even said the word civil war you were branded a a racist bigot national white nationalist everything

if you just said there's a there's a possibility we could have a civil war, you were smeared. But now it's become part of the everyday news cycle, and they're talking about divorce talks. Right. Folks, see, we're being incrementally boiled like the frog. Right. This frog's just about cooked. The American people, you've been in the pot so long, there's just a pot full of frog broth.

That frog's been boiling for a long time, and it's barely alive. It's gasping for its breath now. But the American people are being, so many of the public, they're just being conditioned to it. Yes. But really it impacts – here in the U.S., it impacts the state of Texas. And Louisiana. And Louisiana, Arkansas. The south. The south. Yeah. But it also starves out Europe. Folks, these people are sick. They sick the demoniacs they're completely deranged people so if you think that they wouldn't destroy your food

In an interview with the Times, Lieutenant General Alexander Solfrank, commander of NATO's logistics center, also urges allies to deal with the red tape that hampers the movement of troops and equipment and makes it harder for countries to use one another's weapons in a time of crisis. NATO leaders have suggested the alliance has a window of opportunity that could be as short

as three years to consolidate its defenses against a possible Russian offensive against the alliance's territory. General Solfrank and other generals from Germany, the United States, and the Netherlands worry that in this scenario, the Russians could strike deep behind the front lines in an effort to take out the civilian and military infrastructure necessary to sustain the war effort. Germany would probably be singled out as the central turntable for NATO's reinforcement and resupply lines. The potential targets range from munition factories and command centers to power plants, bridges, and railways. Folks, these are European targets.

Yes. They're telling you U.S., German, and Dutch generals are saying they expect European power plants, bridges, and railways to be taken out. And command centers. And command centers. Like Brussels, Berlin, London. London. London. Quote, we have to assume that an aggressor will use the whole spectrum of kinetic and non-kinetic force in order to destroy lines of communication also in the rear area. That ranges from acts of sabotage through electronic warfare and cyber to kinetic possibilities through missiles, drones, and so on. What we believe is that we will be contested in all domains. There will be hybrid warfare starting in your strategic support areas

and your ability to deploy. You'll be contested coming across the Atlantic. You'll be contested in our ports within theater. You will be contested coming across the Atlantic. That's American troops trying to reach Europe. This is what they're telling you. They're saying to the European leaders, the Americans will be contested, confronted. In other words, we'll be on our own.

America will be hindered trying to get troops to Europe. Yes. Another, London Telegraph. U.S. to station nuclear weapons in U.K. to counter threat from Russia. Well, wait a minute here.

The Russians are coming. You would think that Russia has an army of 50 million troops. That they're going to be just coming across the borders everywhere. Russia would have to be completely out of their mind to launch that type of an attack. If Russia attacks NATO, it will be with nukes.

Yes. Because they don't have it will be with nukes. Yes. Because they don't have enough men to invade all these countries. But that's what that general was saying in the London Times article, too. Yes, they're going to hit you. He knows it. That's why they're telling the people, you better prepare food. They're telling the people over Europe, you better buy food. Get some water.

You don't want to be without water. All right. Number 17, this is a map that shows where the U.S. nukes are stationed in Europe right now that we know about. Various military bases. Continues to show Incirlik in Turkey. Number 18, London Telegraph. I saw this Saturday. Boris Johnson, of course, I jolly well would.

He would jolly well would what? He would join the army. Boris, he would join the army and go fight the Russians if he were only 18. Boris would fight Boris. Here's a guy that doesn't own a comb, doesn't comb his hair on any day, and he's telling your son, go join the army. I would. I would do it if I was 18. I jolly well would.

I jolly would. I would go fight the Russians. Yeah. This is the same guy that told the Ukrainians, don't make peace with the Russians, fight. The Ukrainians were ready to sign a peace deal with the Russians. And old Bojo went to Ukraine and told Zelensky, fight them. That's right. He sure did.

They can't find enough people to join our military forces. And there are those who are undocumented who want the chance to serve and risk their lives for this country. Should we give them the chance? I think we should. Let me think this through, Doc.

So we've got millions of military age fighting men coming across the border from other countries. We don't know their background. We don't know their background, but they are young. They're military age. They're capable of fighting. And Senator Durbin says, aha, I got an idea. Let's put this Trojan horse in uniform. Yes.

We'll put our uniform on these military age fighting men who have been sent here by other countries. Guess what you have then you have you have a military force inside america wearing american uniforms who then shoot american citizens yes you got it so by the way something i learned in researching for all this stuff today rick is that on the on the selective service website do you know that undocumented males between 18 and 24 have to register for selective service no i did not they absolutely illegally yes but they have to register for selective service which means if they activate uh you know the draft they're going to draft illegal immigrants that's right it's already in. In his name we pray. Amen. Amen. All right. So we're in Matthew chapter 3 today. And as Rick mentioned, we're going to be focusing on verse number 4 today. So if you've got your Bibles, read along with me, if you will. I'm reading from the King James and Matthew 3 verse 4. And the same John had his raiment of camel's hair and a leather girdle about his loins, and his meat was locusts and wild honey.

And that's Matthew 3 verse 4. Okay. And the same John. Verse 4 begins with Matthew reminding us that we are talking about John the Baptist. The same John who was spoken of by the prophet Isaiah. The same John crying in the wilderness, prepare ye the way of the Lord. Make his path straight. And the same John. That's the purpose of that phrase. Just to make sure everybody knows,

we're talking about John the Baptist. Matthew paints a stark picture of John the Baptist. In verse 3, we see that he lived alone in the barren wilderness. He cried out to the rocks, the few scattered trees, the caves in the hillsides, the ravens, and whoever was in earshot of his voice, that people must repent and prepare their hearts for the arrival of the Messiah. Did you ever wonder how John's ministry got off the ground? I mean, he didn't have radio and television. He didn't have the internet. He didn't even have a microphone. He was alone and isolated. There are no cities in that region now. Right. Yeah, we've been there.

There are no cities there now. When it says wilderness, it is really wilderness. It is. And to this day, it's wilderness. Only a few scattered towns are there today. And they're separated by many miles. So there's no doubt in my mind. When John started, he preached to the mountains.

He preached to the rocks. He preached to the bushes. His voice was the words the anointed Holy Spirit filled words were being released from his mouth and being sent out into the universe and God's

word will not return void John knew if I just speak this word it's going to do something. It's going to produce a harvest. From time to time, pass by and see him. Doc, do you remember the tiniest hotel in the world? Oh, yes.

It was a VW Bug. It had just a bed in it but it was according to guinness the smallest hotel in the world you can actually book a room and it was in the middle of nowhere in the wilderness it's in the wilderness and there's a little old man in the in the to it, and he'll rent it to you. And he'll sell you some jewelry. Yeah, and remember, he met everybody. He had met everybody. Yeah. Every prime minister, every, you know, it was incredible.

Now, think about it, Doc. He's out in the middle of the wilderness wilderness and yet kings and prime ministers and celebrities came to see him that's right so if people will travel out there to see the smallest hotel in the world they will travel here the greatest prophet in the world. Amen. I like that. So the few travelers who saw and heard John as they pass by on their way to or from Jerusalem, they told people what they witnessed. And slowly people started trekking out into the wilderness, hoping to find John. As the eyewitness accounts grew in number, so did the number of pilgrims. So eventually, John had a crowd.

On any day of the week, he had a crowd. It is quite marvelous when you think about it. On any day of the week, he had a crowd. It is quite marvelous when you think about it. Because you have to go there to Jordan to see it, to understand how unusual it would have been to have a crowd traveling out there every day. I mean, it's not even an easy trek in a bus I mean really you get right down to it I mean we've been out there several times it's dirt roads dusty bumpy dirt roads that go out along the Jordan River and there's nothing but scrub brush and sand that's it yeah there's there's nothing out there

I mean if you see if you see some uh Shepherd or somebody wandering out in uh the the desert there with a few scraggly goats and sheep and stuff that's that's a that's a sight yes or some camels. I mean, there's just nothing out there. So God started John's ministry in the wilderness. And God ended John's ministry and life in the most desolate place. I visited the site three times in 2022. And each time I was taken back by the barrenness of the Jordan desert and the isolation of Herod's fortress on the mountaintop. John's wilderness was a wasteland, empty, isolated, without the attributes of human civilization. God led the Hebrews through the wilderness for 40 years before taking them to the promised land.

Matthew takes us to a wilderness to introduce us to Jesus as an adult, ready to begin his messianic ministry. Jesus was tested in the wilderness. The wilderness

is a place of spiritual bankruptcy and loneliness. In the wilderness, we are stripped of our worldly possessions and we stand naked before God. It is in the wilderness that we are unable to rely upon ourselves to meet our needs. But we must live on the substances God gives us. You have to go to the wilderness of your life to meet Jesus. Amen. That'll preach.

You will see him when you recognize your spiritual bankruptcy, your inability to save yourself from damnation. From the emptiness of the wilderness, our souls are renewed. Our souls are born again in the wilderness like a desert rose. So must you and I, must we move to the desert now to be close to God? No, that's not the lesson in John's life. The lesson for us is self-denial. The lesson for us is separation from the world, even as we live in it. Now, in verse 4, John paints a portrait of this radical preacher's wardrobe and diet.

Let's first look at the wardrobe. If John had a closet, the only things that were hanging on the rack were a raiment of camel's hair and a leather girdle he wore about his loins. Two pieces of clothing. The raiment of camel's hair was a tunic made of coarsely woven long camel's hair. I promise you, you'll never see a modern young male model in GQ magazine wearing a tunic of coarsely woven long camel's hair. If you go to Paris, you can search day and night. You will never find a clothing store selling camel hair robes. Why? There's nothing attractive about it right it was

as rugged as you can get men who lived in ancient times in the wilderness regions of Palestine and Arabia wore them because camel hair tunics kept out the heat the cold and rain it wasn't pretty but it was practical and the and it can it was in contrast to what the uh religious leaders wore the religious leaders wore nice long robes. In fact, Jesus made mention of this. He said, when you went out to see John, what do you expect to see?

A man in soft raiment? And so even Jesus recognized that this is something different here. And Jesus was saying, this is one of the markers that John was Elijah. Yes. You're reading my mind, Doc, or you read my notes. You must have hacked into my outline, because that's exactly

the very next thing I was going to say. John's apparel was the opposite of the city boys who lived in Jerusalem and proudly strutted into the temple to demonstrate to everybody how much they knew about religion. Yes.

In the days after John was beheaded, Jesus asked the multitudes who came to hear him questions about John the Baptist. Doc just told us what he said. It's in Matthew 11, verses 7 to 8. What did you go out into the wilderness to see? A reed shaken by the wind? What did you go out to see?

A man in soft clothing? Behold, those who wear soft clothing are in king's houses. And then in Mark chapter 12, verse 38, Jesus said, beware of the scribes who like to walk in long robes and to get greetings in the marketplaces. In Luke 7, 25, Jesus admonished his disciples to behold the religious leaders who were gorgeously dressed and lived delicately. What would Jesus say about the people on religious television? John the Baptist did not wear soft clothing and long robes, nor was he gorgeously dressed, nor did he live a delicate lifestyle of the rich and famous. John the Baptist was as rough and tough a man as you could find in those days.

For John's predominantly Israelite audience, the people who saw and heard John immediately associated him with the prophets of ancient times. Yes. The Jews had not seen anybody like John for many centuries. Yes. Yet they recognized him as a prophet who preached and dressed like Elijah. Recall that Jesus said John was Elijah. The Jews who went out into the wilderness to see and hear John must have had the same thought. Elijah has returned. So what clothing was in Elijah's closet?

We can read about it in 2 Kings 1, verses 1 through 8. I'll shorten it for you and just give you the last two verses. But here's the context. Moab had rebelled against Israel after King Ahab died. And then King Ahaziah fell down through a lattice in his upper room and was seriously injured. Remember that story? Remember that, Doc? He broke through the lattice and fell, and he was seriously injured. And so he sent his messengers to go ask Baal Zabub,

the idol of Echon. He told his messengers, go ask the idol if I'll die. However, Yahweh, the God of Israel, interrupted this scene. And he sent Elijah the Tishbite to the messengers to give a message to old Ahaziah that he would die because he sought an idol instead of the true God. And so they returned and told the king what

happened and in verse 7 king ahaziah asked them what kind of man was he who came up to meet you and told you these words and they said to him he was a hairy man and wearing a leather belt around his waist. He said, it's Elijah the Tishbite. Yes, that's what the king said. He knew who it was. Oh my, oh, it's Elijah the Tishbite. Elijah the Tishbite was described as a hairy man wearing a leather belt around his waist. John the Baptist had his raiment of camel's hair and a leather girdle about his loins. So what does it mean that Elijah was a hairy man? Does that mean he looked like a caveman or Bigfoot? There are three possible explanations, maybe more. These are the three I have. First, it may refer

to him as having long flowing locks of hair and a long beard. Second, it may mean that Elijah had a lot of body hair. It was just a hairy guy. Third, it may mean that Elijah was dressed in a cloak or

mantle made with animal hair. Most Bible scholars choose the third option because a mantle made with animal hair was a mark of the prophetic office beginning with Elijah and ending with John the Baptist. Right. So when the Jews went out in the wilderness and they saw John wearing this tunic made of long camel hair with a girdle, it's a sash around his belt, around his waist, they immediately thought about old Elijah the Tishbite. Jerome was a Christian scholar born in Croatia 347 AD. He lived about 72 years,

spent some time in Rome, but he spent the last 36 years of his life living in Bethlehem. And in fact, he's buried under the church of the nativity where Jesus was born. That's right. I remember that. So writing about the clothing of Old Testament prophets, Jerome confirmed that the wide garments made of animal hair that covered the whole frame of the prophets was the typical dress of prophets and this is what he wrote quote this was the habit of the prophets that when they called the people to penitence they were clothed with sackcloth so why why did the why did the Old Testament prophets wear rough clothing?

I believe they did it for two reasons. The first reason was for their own benefit. They denied themselves luxuries. They fasted the good life. It kept them humble and focused on their mission. Second, they wore rough garments to display their utter contempt for the religious leaders in the cities who were dressed luxuriously, gorgeously, and quite frankly looked effeminate. So the animal hair cloak was so deeply associated with prophets. Listen to this, that false prophets dressed in animal hair tunics to fool the people into believing that they were

true prophets. Zechariah chapter 13 verse 4 says, It will happen in that day that the prophets will each be ashamed of his vision. When he prophesies, neither will they wear a hairy mantle. Wow. So the false prophets dressed up like Elijah. They wore camel hair tunics just to fool the people. Well, we've got a lot of folks today wearing Elijah's cloak, don't we? But they aren't prophets. Wearing the prophet's mantle?

Yeah. but they aren't prophets wearing the prophets man oh yeah we got uh global profits super profits now i wonder if elijah or john the baptist would be considered a super prophet well i was just commenting uh i wonder if elijah or john the baptist would be uh be considered a global prophet or a super prophet today because those are the classifications that we have you know we got the bethels and uh all the other uh uh different super churches out there you have super apostles super prophets and global prophets and so but no uh the idea was that a true prophet minimized himself didn't glorify himself you didn't have to know john the baptist didn't have to say hey i'm a prophet it was obvious if you have to tell people you're

a prophet you're not a problem you're not a prophet it's i mean if you have to tell somebody you're a man, you're not a man. I mean, it's what you are. You don't have to go advertise it. So the second piece of apparel mentioned by Matthew was John's belt. Matthew described it as a leather girdle about his loins. Now, when we hear the word girdle, we think of a woman's girdle, an undergarment. That's not what this was. It was a belt. So you've got similar language in second Kings chapter 1 describing Elijah's clothing Elijah was identified as wearing a leather belt around his waist so Elijah wore a leather belt around his waist. And John the Baptist wore a leather belt around his waist.

So take note that the girdle was made of leather. Only the poorest men would wear a rough leather belt around their waist and their loins. The men in the cities like Jerusalem could afford to purchase soft girdles made of cotton or linen. Thus, prophetically John's rough leather girdle repudiated the soft effeminate men in Jerusalem who wore cotton sashes around their waist and loins. It was a statement condemning Israel's slide into sin and debauchery. For the prophet, the girdle symbolized his readiness for action on behalf of God. The belt demonstrated the prophet's preparation and readiness to do the work God commissioned him to accomplish. In Luke 12, verse 35, Jesus said,

let your loins be girded about and your lights burning. Yes. So it's difficult for Westerners to understand Jesus's instruction to let your loins be girded about. Western men wear pants, not robes. For Easterners, however, the phrase gird up your loins is easily understood to mean readiness for active service and action. So when wearing a long robe, men had to gird up, meaning to tie the robe up by a sash or girdle around the waist so that they could run or work with their full strength and energy. To gird up the loins means

to be ready, active, diligent, and focused on the task. In Eastern culture, if you see a man with his robe, if he's girded his loins, it means he's brought his robe up and he's tied it so that he can run, he can focus, he can apply all of his energy to a particular task. It means he's going into action. When he's relaxed.

His robe is not going girded up. But when he's going into action, it's girded up. Jesus said, let your loins be girded up and your lights burning. In other words, be always ready for action. So John the Baptist signaled to all who came to see him that he was girded up for action. Ready to serve the Lord at all times. the leather girdle around his waist covered by a, his waist was covered by a rough camel hair tuning. Those two pieces of clothing let everybody know that he was in a state of readiness to do the work God assigned to him. His primitive clothing was in stark contrast

to the gorgeous garments and expensive linens worn by the wealthy members of the Sanhedrin and the royal robes of the Herodians. The message was clear. John the Baptist's rough and primitive clothing was meant to remind the people of the prophet Elijah so

what about John's diet of locusts and honey is there anything significant in his choice of food? So what we look at is first on the surface level, John's diet of honey and locusts illustrated his dependence on God to provide for him in the wilderness. John was not a farmer

nor a shepherd. He ate whatever God provided naturally in the wilderness. Once again, his lifestyle was in stark contrast to the lifestyles of Jerusalem's high and mighty Sanhedrin members,

the Pharisees and the scribes and the Sadducees and the Herodians. They lived in the holy city, the heart of Judaism. John lived in the most remote part of Israel, far removed from the nice things of city life. Right. Jesus spoke of the hypocrisy of the Jewish elite. In Matthew 11, verses 18 and 19, our Lord said, for John came neither eating nor drinking, and they say, he has a devil. The son of man came eating and drinking, and they say, behold, a man gluttonous and a winebibber a friend of publicans and sinners

so in in the old testament era honey was associated with blessings and abundance canaan was described as a land flowing with milk and honey but locusts in the bible are associated with judgment yes but you were allowed to eat them yes yes jews were allowed to eat locusts but locusts are a symbol of God's judgment on a nation. Yes. A plague of locusts can wipe out vegetation on farmland stretching hundreds and hundreds of miles. A nation's food supply can be destroyed by locusts, can plunge an entire country into famine. Locusts can turn a fertile valley into a barren wasteland so there is an association with locusts and wasteland right wherever locusts live it's eventually going to be a wasteland right it may start out a beautiful farm valley but by the time the locusts are done, it's a wasteland.

Right. So we've got honey that represents prosperity, goodness, abundance, locusts that represents judgment. Yes. So honey represents sweetness. Yes. And as I said throughout the Bible, honey is synonymous with abundance and prosperity. Right. The Bible says God's commandments are sweeter than honey.

Yes. And sweeter than a honeycomb. That's in Psalm 19. The fear of the Lord is clean, enduring forever. Forever, the judgments of the Lord are true and righteous. More to be desired are they than gold. Yea, than fine gold. Sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb.

So we must do more than accept the word of God as necessary. We must love its taste in our lives. Yes. We must crave it.

As beekeepers know, and Doc used to work for beekeepers, he knows this, the honey pressed from the combs has a mixture of substances in it. Yes. But the honey that naturally drips from the honeycomb is pure. Yes. Rick's right about that. And it's interesting how many times. The purest honey is what drips. And it's interesting how many times. Is that right, John?

Yes. And it's interesting how many times in the scripture where God, like in Ezekiel, God told Ezekiel, eat this scroll, eat this word, it's sweet. And then we have over in Revelation where John is told to eat the scroll. It was sweet in his mouth, but bitter in his stomach. So there's an association between honey and the word of God, too. A connection there. Yes. And so that you notice that all throughout scripture.

And so something else, Rick, on the locusts. And I like that what you did there about the judgment. I mean, that I hadn't really considered that before. But several people are asking, was it literally locusts or was it the locust bean? And what I can tell you is when Rick and I were in Jordan, there are actually stores that you can go to in Jordan because there are actual stores where you can buy locusts and wild honey and literal locusts, not the locust bean. And it's so weird why theologians and scholars try to say, well, it wasn't a real bug. It was a bean.

No, in the Greek, it's locusts. It was the bug, the locusts. Just take it for what it says. And you're so right, Rick, about the judgment side. You've got the judgment of God, but you've got the sweetness of God. And John preached both. He was preaching both, and he ate both. You are what you eat.

Yes. I think he pulled off the legs and the wings and probably fried them and dipped them in honey. Yes. That's what I think he did. And you can eat it. Have you ever eaten a locust, Rick?

No, but the next time I go to Jordan, I'm going to do it. I've eaten locusts and they're not bad. Okay. I think you were. jordan i'm gonna do it i i've eaten locusts and they're they're not bad okay and so okay yeah i think you were it's to me it was like eating a fig so and so so john the baptist ate honey and locusts. In today's compromised, lukewarm Western church world,

there are many self-appointed prophets who dress like Elijah prophetically, not physically, who never talk about the locusts. They only promise the honey. They never preach about sin, repentance, and judgment. They feed their congregations a steady diet of honey. Don't get me wrong. The honey they give them is sweet to the lips

and it goes down smoothly and their taste buds love it. There's nothing wrong with honey. But the problem is today's self-appointed prophets never feed their flock locusts. John ate locusts and honey. The locusts John ate locusts and honey the locusts are the law the honey is grace sermons and Bible studies must provide a balanced diet of locusts and honey law and grace you won't truly appreciate the sweetness of pure honey until you've chewed a

mouthful of locusts after eating some locusts you want some honey you want some money to wash them The law reminds us why God gave us grace. Locusts tell us why we wash them down with honey. Glory. Oh, wow. So many of today's preachers and prophets and teachers don't want to serve locusts to their flocks before they give them the honey. Why? Because everybody wants honey. We all have a sweet tooth, right? Locusts are not appealing. They're not appetizing. Admonishing people to refrain from sinning, warning people of impending judgment upon wicked nations, reminding people that the Lord may withhold his honey from those who repeatedly disobey him,

is not the way to build a popular ministry on social media and religious broadcasting stations. Church members want honey. Yeah, can you describe your ministry? Mine is more of a locust and wild honey ministry. Doc, you can't sell in churches. You can't go on TBN and sell a locust cookbook. Glory. You got it.

Yeah. But you can sell a cookbook on a hundred ways to make something with honey. That's right. That's good, Rick. How sweet. I'll think of Jackie Gleason, how sweet it is. You know, a couple of people here on chat are making the comparison today. You know, Klaus Schwab and the World Economic Forum, they're telling us we need to eat bugs and everything, right? So is that kind of a side-handed way of us receiving the judgment of God, you know, that we are going to eat bugs? And, you know, and that main bug is crickets, are cousin of the locusts yes so

well you know their solution doc to oh my i hadn't thought about this the next time that there's a locust plague um the claus schwab globalists are going to say hey this isn't a plague this is a blessing. Yes. We've got to gather all these locusts and feed them to you. What are they feeding you? Judgment? Yes. Wow. So people must hear about the wrath of God on sin before they're fed Canaan lands honey. They must first be fed locusts. But the honey is in the wilderness.

In the wilderness, you are naked before God. You're alone with your maker. In the wilderness, you recognize your sinfulness. You acknowledge your need for a savior. In the wilderness, the crooked paths are made straight. In the wilderness, our altars to our idols on the high places are brought down low. In the wilderness, our lowly estate before God is brought up high to meet him at his level. You won't be saved until a righteous Bible-believing prophet feeds you locusts. And after you repent and you're baptized, you will be fed a spoonful of pure honey that's dripped from the honeycomb of God's word. Hallelujah.

To cleanse the taste of locusts from your mouth. People traveled long distances from Jerusalem and surrounding towns to see and hear the scary wild man in the desert, John the Baptist. Some believed him and were baptized unto repentance. Others rejected John's message and walked home unchanged. The locusts and the honey that went into john's mouth also represented the promises and the warnings that came out of his mouth amen he put judgment and blessing into his mouth and what came out of his mouth was judgment and blessing. Listen to this. The people who received John's sermons about repentance tasted the sweetness of God's honey. They experienced God's blessings in the wilderness.

But those who rejected John's warning experienced God's bitter judgment. They ate the locusts. Proverbs 18.21 says, death and life are in the power of the tongue. And they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof. God's word is a locust and

honey diet. Both are connected to our mouths. John's diet prophetically symbolized that out of our mouths flow words that produce blessing or judgment. Did we find anything in one verse today? Oh, not anything at all, Rick. And we could keep going on this verse, too. There's just so much. I love the way that you connected the judgment and the grace of God, not only in what John ate, but also the message, too. There are some that just think that John just did a locust message, but really the baptism, by preaching baptism in the wilderness, he was preaching grace. He said, yes,

there's judgment in God. There's the locusts in God, but guess what? If you repent, turn from your ways, you find the honey, you find the grace. And the true message of God is both. You really, you can't separate the two. It can't be an all locust message. It can't be an all honey message. It's got to be both. That's right.

Doc, I spent, and I'm just telling you this because I just just not for a pat on my back but um i i spent the entire day saturday on this lesson i usually spend about two hours i spent the entire day saturday on this lesson um where i work at on the weekends i'll just just show you. It's right over here. There's my table. And I just sit over there and study the word and write. And I came out early Saturday morning, and I stayed till dark. And it takes for me, it takes that much time to really dig down deep. To see the richness that's in a scripture. I mean, if I if I'd spent Sunday on it, too, I probably would have came up with much more. But I know I had to move on. I knew i had to move on to another verse um

but it is it isn't it's look i'm eating the honey while i'm doing this don't don't have don't feel certain i'm eating the honey it may be a few locusts along the way too right oh yeah yeah you gotta you gotta taste the locusts you have to taste the locusts along the way too, right? Oh, yeah. Yeah. You got to taste the locusts. You have to taste the locusts. But God's word is like a honeycomb. Amen. And it's just dripping and coming down your face. You can just get under it and let it drip in your mouth. It's pure honey.

So I love doing morning manna. This is the most enjoyable thing I've done in over 25 years of ministry. I've served a lot of locusts. I've served a lot of locusts, Doc. But Rick, I know that you have a heart of honey. And so even though you're serving locusts, it comes from a place of grace, really. I've been shoving locusts in the faces of Americans for 25 years. And they've spit them out. I'm not going to eat that locust. Well, you're going to eat it. One way or another, you're going to eat it.

One way or the other, you're going to eat those locusts. Either Klaus Schwab is going to make you eat a locust or God's going to make you eat a locust. You just got to choose who you're going to eat. Somebody's going to make you eat a locust. Man, that insight about Klaus Schwab, that is judgment on us. Yes. God is using Klaus Schwab and that gang and Bill Gates to feed us locusts. And on the flip side, Rick, the bees are dying off. So there's less and less honey.

Honey, yes. Think about that. There's a famine in the land. For the word of God. Yes. And the word of God is a sweet honeycomb. That's right. So you're going to eat locusts.

Wow. Rick, this is a tremendous lesson today. I have read that verse I don't know how many times, and I studied this weekend too, a bit, and I never saw that connection on the judgment and grace, and that is, you tapped into artesian water on that one. No, that was good. It wasn't just, well, you hit the water table on that one. So, that was good. It wasn't just, well, you hit the water table on that one. So that's good. It's so that we're all blessed. Amen. I hadn't seen it before either.

These are revelations the Lord gives me. It's Holy Spirit revelation because I hadn't seen it either. And, you know, from now on, every time I see a reference to a locust or see a reference to honey anywhere in the scripture, now it's going to bring me back to Matthew chapter 3 and 4. Law and grace. It's a beautiful connection. So it really is. And, Will, for everybody else on this chat too. Martin Luther taught that all preachers had to preach a balance of law and grace. He insisted

that all Lutheran preachers, that their sermons contain both law and grace. He understood this principle of locusts and honey. That people won't understand nor appreciate grace if they don't know why the grace was given. We hear sermons everywhere about grace. But they never tell their congregations why God extended the grace.

Yes. And that we deserve to eat honey. I mean, we deserve to eat locusts. But God's because of his grace, because of his kindness and his love, he feeds us honey. But we should be eating locusts. And the people that rejected John's message in the wilderness. They went back to their hometowns. We don't know what happened to them, but we know that spiritually they ate locusts.

They got sick. They had diseases. They had accidents. Their businesses failed. Things happened to them. They dried up. Their lives withered. They had rejected the honey.

Because they didn't want to eat the locusts. Wow, what a message today, Rick. Okay. We know that John the Baptist wasn't on the cover of GQ. He wore leather BBDs. He preached judgment and grace in the locusts and wild honey. And so it really is. I use humor because it's more of a survival skill than anything else.

But still, Rick, I rarely say this to you, but this was a message that touched me today. I mean, I've never seen that before. Because when you think of John the Baptist, you think of a fiery judgment. Thus saith the Lord, it's all going to burn. But it was grace too, wasn't it? It was. It was. And really, that is the message.

That's the image everybody has of John the Baptist. A fiery preacher who was condemning. And, you know, there was nothing coming out of his mouth other than condemnation. But it wasn't. He was saying, there's a Messiah coming. There's a Savior coming. There's honey coming. Jesus is our promised land. And he's flowing with milk and honey.
