The message was sent via a telegram, as in Telegram, the messenger app, owned by Russian billionaire Pavel Dorov. I'm Rick Wiles. This is True News for Monday, August 26, 2024. Let's begin our commentary and analysis of today's world news headlines by discussing this article published by Reuters, Telegram messaging app CEO Durov arrested in France. Doc, this is a major development. Let's take a look at the article first. Sure. And then we'll talk about the implications of it. Well, as Reuters is reporting here, Pavel Durov, the Russian-born billionaire, founder and owner of the Telegram messaging app,

was arrested at Le Bourget Airport outside of Paris shortly after landing on a private jet late on Saturday and placed in custody. That's according to three sources that Reuters found. The arrest of the 39-year-old technology billionaire prompted on Sunday a warning from Moscow to Paris that he should be accorded his rights and criticism from ex-owner Elon Musk, who said that free speech in Europe was under attack. Now, Durov, who has dual French and UAE citizenship, was arrested as part of a preliminary police investigation into allegedly allowing a wide range of crimes due to a lack of moderators on Telegram and a lack of cooperation with police, a third French police source said. Now, Telegram abides by EU rules, including the Digital Services Act. Its moderation is within industry standards and constantly improving, Telegram said in a statement on the arrest. The Telegram and Telegram CEO Pavel Durov has nothing to hide and travels frequently in Europe. It said it's absurd to claim a platform or its owner are responsible

for abuse of that platform. The encrypted application with close to a billion users is particularly influential in Russia, Ukraine, and the republics of the former Soviet Union. It is ranked as one of the major social media platforms after Facebook, YouTube, WhatsApp, Instagram, TikTok, and WeChat. Durov, who is estimated by Forbes to have a fortune of $15.5 billion, said in April some governments had sought to pressure him, but the app should remain a neutral platform and not a player in geopolitics. Reuters went on to say that Telegram says it is committed to protecting user privacy and human rights, such as freedom of speech and assembly. Mr. Durov has previously accused U.S. law enforcement agencies, such as the FBI, of seeking to get a back door into his platform. The FBI has not commented on those allegations.

And so the warning shot's been fired across the bow for all social media platforms that if you don't moderate your platforms, we'll take you out. Oh, that's interesting. He's been over here on our side of the planet. So his private jet landed in France for refueling. The French police were tipped off that he had just landed or that he was coming in for a landing. They were waiting on him. He got off the jet. Again, private jet.

He got off his jet, refueling, and he was placed under arrest. He was on French territory, and they made their move. So when I first saw the headlines, Doc, you know, I saw Telegram CEO arrested for money laundering, drugs. Oh, yes. Child exploitation. I saw those headlines, too. Yes. What in the world has this guy been doing?

I mean, I was shocked looking at the headline. I thought, what does France have on this guy? Then as I read the article, I realized he hadn't done any of those things. They were saying people on the platform have done these crimes. Therefore, you're responsible. So let's ask the question, are bank CEOs, bank presidents responsible for the checks that are written by their customers? Well, if you're going to use that logic, then yes, they would be. Well, then we should be arresting bank presidents all over the country right now.

For money laundering, for exploitation of children, buying and selling of women and children around the world. Any criminal activity that a bank customer has used the bank to do under these rules that France is using. Look, they have him under custody. I just read a few minutes ago they've extended the custody, I think, another 48 hours. Yeah, the French can do that. Look, here are going to be the terms. You give us control of Telegram or we let you rot in prison the rest of your life. That's going to be the terms, yes.

Those are the terms. Give us control. You give us the back door. Let us put our thought police inside your company. Let us put our military intelligence officers on your staff. Or you will sit in a French prison until you're 99 years old.

Which one do you want? Those are going to be the terms. He's in trouble. They will keep this guy locked up forever. The ruling class is taking down every platform they don't own and control. Right.

This is what happened with TikTok. I'm not a fan of TikTok. I wish that thing had never been allowed to come into the United States. But after it was established here, the law that was passed by Congress earlier this year gives, and if you remember this, I said, that law that they passed, it gives the U.S. government the right to seize control of any and all social media platforms. So this is the new era that we're in, that if you cross them, if you allow discussion that the ruling class doesn't like, then they're coming after you. They're going to lock you up.

They're going to seize your assets. And another aspect of that, too, Rick, is they want to know everything. They want to know everything. That's the real frustration with Telegram is because it's encrypted and they don't know what everybody's talking about. And so that's the frustrating part for the global deep state right there. Apparently, when Durov says that it truly is encrypted, he really means it because that's what's driving them crazy. Right. Okay.

You have various companies around the world that offer encrypted email. That's not really encrypted. There's an encrypted phone now by the Eric – the guy that owned the mercenary company. Oh, Eric Prince. Eric Prince, yes. Yeah, you just had to say mercenary.

I know who you're talking about there. So would you believe Eric Prince if he says, I'm not working for the government? I assure you that the government doesn't have any access to this phone. I wouldn't believe Eric Prince if he said this guy was blue. I'd have to go outside and check, just to be sure. So what I'm saying is that those of you who are buying into these encrypted email services and phones and all that, you're very naive. Because my hunch is that they're all funded by CIA operations. There's no way.

There's no way Western intelligence agencies are allowing these things to operate. And the proof is they arrested Durov. That's it. He wouldn't cooperate with them. He would not give them what they demanded. And so he was arrested. And they will take control. His company is officially headquartered in Dubai. They will seize it. The Dubai government will seize control of it. I mean, it's a multi-billion dollar corporation. According to DeRov, it only has 30 employees,

which is amazing, which the French said, that's the proof. You've made no effort whatsoever to police this platform. You only have 30 employees. And that's the proof. Right. have 30 employees and that's the proof right so the fact that he didn't hire people to be thought police was the proof that he wasn't policing thought therefore he had to be shut down so um i want to take a look at this next article. This is also Reuters. Because Dmitry Medvedev had some not-so-friendly things to say about Durov. Durov is Russian. And you would think that the Russians would come to his defense, but Medvedev basically said, hey, boy, you got yourself in this mess. We tried to tell you.

We tried to tell you tried to tell you what dimitri we tried to tell you you needed to work with us right and you wouldn't work with us and you left your homeland and now the west has you that's right so is medvedev saying we're not coming to get you well that seems to be the tone of this article from Reuters. Former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev said on Sunday that Pavel Durov, the Russian-born founder of the Telegram messaging app, miscalculated by fleeing Russia and thinking that he would never have to cooperate with the security services abroad. Mr. Medvedev related a conversation he had with Durov several years ago in which Medvedev told him that if he did not want to cooperate with law enforcement agencies, then he would have problems in any country.

Medvedev, who is the deputy head of Russia's Security Council, said Durov wanted to be a brilliant man of the world who lives wonderfully without a motherland. He miscalculated, Medvedev said. For all our common enemies now, he is Russian, and therefore unpredictable and dangerous. Durov should finally realize that one cannot choose one's fatherland. Now look at this statement, Doc.
