Starting point is 00:00:00 I am unashamed. What about you? So welcome back to Unashamed. Zach, I was working on my scheduling this last week, because Lisa and I are about to be super busy traveling across the fruited plains. In fact, I mentioned that we were going to be in Bottom, Texas, September 5th and 6th. I think I gave the wrong dates, but that's Bottom, Texas. And then also the next weekend, we're doing a couple of marriage events, full to Missouri at the Oikas Christian Church, September 12, 13.
Starting point is 00:00:33 By the way, it's Al and Lisa Robertson.com is where all our appearances are. But Zach, we were working on October because we're coming to the great state of North Carolina. Yep, you're coming up. In October, we've got like three events up there. So we're going to stay around your neighborhood in between a couple of those events. And I have been asked to preach at your church by one of your shepherds there. and nobody told me that's going on. I know, that's what's funny.
Starting point is 00:00:59 They asked me outside of you to do it, and I said on one condition, Jase, here's my one condition. I have to earn double whatever Zach gets when he preaches. Oh. I ask for double your salary. You are in for a nice surprise. And they immediately said yes. So, Zach, what do you earn so I can know how much money I'm going to get? I get a big goose egg.
Starting point is 00:01:24 I got, oh, wait a minute. How much is all your pay? You're doing two times zero. You get two times zero. So you're at, man. That's why you need to. And we're not covering his travel either, Jace. It's just pro bono all the way.
Starting point is 00:01:37 You know what, though? I would tell you this. I had a cousin one time drove through Black Mountain on I-20. Did not even stop. Much less offered to preach a sermon. I mean, nothing. He just kept rolling through. He honked his horn.
Starting point is 00:01:50 He said he blew the horn on I-40. I do want to think. You know what scary is I just now realize he's talking about me. I was like, what cousin could he have was driving? Was it Gimber? It wasn't Gimber. Well, Jason, you already come up because I'm telling you, we have had, I know you're, this is a little bit off, maybe this is off brand for you, but you're a treasure hunter. So I got to tell y'all what's been happening.
Starting point is 00:02:13 I may have told, I've talked about it on not yet now. But we live in an area that's, this downtown area is like super old. And so the place next to me, they're, he's cleaning everything out of the, he's cleaning everything out of this building, and so there's a dumpster literally right outside my door. A big, huge dumpster. Like when the kind of the construction debris they put in. Have you been using it? Had I been using it? Yeah. No, they just delivered it. Like, it was like a, they delivered the dumpster. You fill it up, they come and they take it, they dump it, they fill it up again. Yeah, we know how a basic dumpster technology. No, I know, but I was saying there's a temptation
Starting point is 00:02:48 here because, you know, no, I do see Zach. Well, I'll clean out some. I mean, it's a dumpster. I could see Zach definitely not paying for something and then pinching off of somebody else's... I've thought about it. We got a bag of trash. I don't pay for trash service at the office, so I will say that I was tempted to throw something in there. I knew that. That's why I brought it up, Jack. Zach, don't relinquish to your flesh nature.
Starting point is 00:03:13 Well, I roll up here about two weeks ago. And Josh, who is my version of Maddie, is in the dumpster during his lunch break. Like he's full body in the dumpster. He's a dumpster diver. So he's in there grabbing stuff out of the dump. I'm like, what are you doing? Well, he said, well, Zach, you've got to pay your production people better.
Starting point is 00:03:34 But, Zach, tell the truth. If you're driving down the road and you see a nice looking couch on the side of the road, there's a temptation as tight as you are about money. Oh, it's a free count. You're the type of person that would say, let me check that out. I'm just warning you right now. Yeah. Do not go.
Starting point is 00:03:54 Not go near the couch. Stay away from it. I made fun of Josh for being in the dumpster. And so I started to, it kind of, it was an office joke. I was a little hard on the guys. And so every day I come in, they're talking about all this stuff that they found or that they're finding. And it's all Dr. Pepper and Coca-Cola paraphernalia. I mean, just dumpster loads.
Starting point is 00:04:20 So he grabs his stuff out and gets into the, dark web of the internet and he finds these these dark corners or these traders they trade this stuff and this guy i did i just found this out when i walked in this morning and i was like this i got to tell you all this i this guy has five thousand dollars in cash that someone flew down from las Vegas with five thousand dollars in cash to hand him to get all the doctor preper paraphernalia that he had already accumulated out of the dumpster and he thinks he's got another 3,000 more worth of stuff, and he hasn't even tapped into the Coca-Cola guys yet. No, that's why I'm saying it's a treasure.
Starting point is 00:05:00 Look, it's so weird you bring this up. So the other night when I... For Dr. Pepper and Coke? No, look, Al, you're not going to believe when I'm fixed a day. So my wife, about five years ago, bought a little Coca-Cola sign at one of these... Like a flea market. Which, by the way, I thought they sold fleas at flea market for years. I never knew what that meant, which is why I never went.
Starting point is 00:05:25 I thought some kind of weird thing with fleas also. So that, and she had that in our garage, it's been there for five years, just collecting dust. Because she's like, yeah, I bought that. She paid like 20 bucks for it, which I thought, you pay 20 bucks for this thing? You thought she got ripped off. I thought she got ripped off. The other night, I have all these guys come over, play cards from my birthday. day. Well, a guy
Starting point is 00:05:53 walked through and he was talking about he had just sold a Coca-Cola sign for like a thousand dollar, an old vintage sign. I was like, well, I have a little clock in my garage. And let's see what this is worth, because it's old.
Starting point is 00:06:11 You're now treasure hunting in your own I was watching him and his eyes lit up, you know. But then he tried to play it cool. It's been there five years. This thing literally looks like junk and my wife had $20 in and he said you know that that's a good one and I was like as in how good yeah because then I felt like oh oh how good are we talking about I might make a hundred he said he said I'm gonna be honest he said it's probably worth five hundred dollars and then he said
Starting point is 00:06:46 does it work? And so I didn't, it's been there for five years. It's like the ones that light up. I have no idea. It's just looked like a clock with a little, you know. Let's walk past it for five. I knew it was in two pieces. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:07:01 And I said, well, I'll tell you what. You give me $300 right now. James, you just turned into a flea market. And I said, we're called that. He literally reached in his back pocket and handed me $300, which made me realize it's probably worth way more than that. He got you. He forgot.
Starting point is 00:07:21 So what? No, no. That's what happened to Josh. He had a guy, he had a guy offer him $250 for a bottle. One bottle. That's how he met the other guy. The guy's like, oh, he's ripping you off. He said that the bottle's worth three times that, $750.
Starting point is 00:07:35 So what, Zach? We had $20 in it. And I just thought it's been laying here for five years detached. Take the $300. I'm just telling you, if you're out there and you got old Coca-Cola paraphernalia, there's a group in Atlanta, Georgia, that's where they're
Starting point is 00:07:55 centered at. The traders for Coke, they all live in Atlanta and the surrounding areas. If you're Dr. Pepper, according my guy here, I don't know if he's making this up, but he says that they're all in Waco, Texas. I think he's selling drugs.
Starting point is 00:08:10 He might be saying, that's what I thought. This whole thing is a false front, Zach. He's got a bag right there sitting right here and it's literally got 5,000 dollars. I haven't met this, Josh. I want to meet him and I'll size him up when I meet it. Well, my question is, should I take in demand a cut since technically he was housing all of the paraphernalia in the studio here? No, because you wouldn't have gotten the dumpster, so you get nothing. I mean, we laugh and we joke, but I got into treasure hunting based on the creator of the universe
Starting point is 00:08:44 using treasure, finding something lost. Because the stuff I find, when they lost it, I'm not digging around in dumpsters. There's a limit to my treasure, honey. I don't get in a dumpster. But there's things under the ground that at the time they lost it was not valuable. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:09:05 Just think if you drop a penny today, no big deal. Yeah. But I told you the last thing I found, I found a penny. from 1797. Which all of a sudden became valuable. It's as big around as a half dollar. And very few of them are...
Starting point is 00:09:22 That's a good point. Enough time goes by things that weren't valuable, become valuable. But my whole point is in Luke 15 where Jesus... I just don't get the Coke, Dr. Pepper. What is the infatuation?
Starting point is 00:09:35 Well, I don't know. It's their brands of a drink. I mean, they're not even good for you. No, but Al, at this stage, it's America. It's an Americana. They made so much money when Fizz drinks loaded with sugar was a thing, that they then started buying all kinds of things.
Starting point is 00:09:55 And so actually... Did you know? I don't know the percentage, but if you looked up the percentage of soft drinks that, like, Coke and Pepsi, it's a very small percentage to what they produce now. I mean, they sell water. Do you know we have a Coca-Cola Museum here in Munro? Have you ever been to it?
Starting point is 00:10:10 Well, I knew we had it. I went to it. We used to be one of the first distributors this side of the miscarrier. I went to it when I was a teenager. We actually, my school took us there. Right. So I guess maybe it's worth it. I really wasn't paying attention.
Starting point is 00:10:24 I just thought, oh, we get out of class, you know, and I walked around and looked. Oh, old Coke bottles. But now look, I have found probably a dozen old Coke bottles that I didn't make money, but they were worth a lot of money. What was the bottles you found that was? Was it Dr. Tishner's or something? What was it? Oh, wow. I found, I have found thousands of bottles.
Starting point is 00:10:51 We actually... But some of those are worse of money, right? Oh, tons of money. You wouldn't believe it. We actually went and did a bottle treasure hunt, me, Murray, and Jeff. Because a ravine or a cliff just eroded into, you know, a ravine. And there were all these bottles. It was a wall.
Starting point is 00:11:14 like two or three feet below the surface, all these bottles are just sticking out everywhere. And so we went and loaded the truck, I mean, complete value of them, hundreds of dollars. So, but very few of them are intact, but it's fascinating.
Starting point is 00:11:32 People are into this kind of stuff. But my guy's pulled in $5,000 a day doing this now. Well, the worst thing he ever did was let you know because now he'll never get a raise. Yeah, but the point is, I'm saying the credit your raise was that dumpster out front. That's what I'm saying.
Starting point is 00:11:48 See, Josh, welcome to the world of Zad. They created the universe used as an illustration. Luke 15 is all about joy. And what's interesting to go with where we're at. I was wondering how you were going to segue this back. Well, because he says there's rejoicing in heaven and on earth. Yep. When lost things are found.
Starting point is 00:12:09 In this case, he was picturing people as the law. lost people, which is why he was eating dinner with a bunch of people. Because you had a lost coin, a lost sheep, and a lost son. Oh, yeah. That's why I got in a treasuredard. I thought of all the illustrations he could have used, this is what the joy, because I've experienced that joy. I mean, when I found that large synth other day, I went nuts.
Starting point is 00:12:33 I was like, within two seconds, I was 30 feet away from where I was. And the people were looking at me, they're like, why are you so excited? What is it? and I said, the fact that I don't know, because I didn't know what it was, but I looked at it, and I thought, large coin, and I see liberty. I saw liberty on the top of it. The fact that I don't know means this is awesome. I have found a coin that is from 1797 that I've never seen that has some kind of America connotation to it.
Starting point is 00:13:09 I mean, we became a country in 1776. This is early on. I just found this. That was early. Oh, it was fantastic. Then they all started jumping up and down, and nobody knew what it was in the moment, but it's good.
Starting point is 00:13:23 I thought about you when I was in Ireland, because, you know, so funny, everything there, they've been around 1,000, 1,200 years. Game change. Oh, I'm headed there one day. Yeah, it's amazing. I'm going to Europe and do some treasure on.
Starting point is 00:13:38 All right, so let's get back to John 14. we kind of took, I guess we didn't take a detour. We stayed pretty much in our context, but... You just asked me, was I alone? I asked one question. And I was like, I gave a 45-minute answer in that we have God's presence. It's not far. Right.
Starting point is 00:13:57 It's close to us. So deal with it, because I really think if you looked at it that way. Right. And that's what he's introducing here. Right. It's a difficult passage. I mean, we've spent, what, two or three? And we knew we would.
Starting point is 00:14:11 But most people, when they read John 14, 1 through 3 or 4, they're thinking, is this is going to happen at a future date. And then they, I don't know if many people have read the 23, 1423. Now, that was an interesting point you made to bring the two in together. Well, he made it. Yeah. I just noticed. I mean, that you noticed.
Starting point is 00:14:32 Yeah, that he's like, if you trust me, we will come to you. The father and I in room with you. Yeah. I mean, what I, you know what it made me think, though? It was all the passages, you know, where it says, the Lord is standing at the door. Yeah. And like the one in Revelation, the Lord is,
Starting point is 00:14:53 it's all these house metaphors of him dwelling with us. You know, the last verse in Ephesians chapter 2, where we have his spirit, it becomes a dwelling in where, First Peter 2. It lives. Oh, yeah. Built up in living stones. And even in the Acts 17 passages, he used an illustration about, look, the divine God is not like gold or silver.
Starting point is 00:15:22 And he makes all these, even in other places, these illustrations where he's not some structure that will be washed away or torn down. Like, we're in a building. Just think about how. Everything. I mean, you know, I mean, you think about even our president, he'll go and he'll come in on a building. You know, this is, this is beautiful, you know. So we're into that. Which is funny, Jay's, because when I was in Ireland, I don't think I mentioned this when I talked about it.
Starting point is 00:15:53 So, like, people are like, what do you go see? And so people, the people that live there were telling me these buildings. There's an old church. Yeah. There's a house that used to be, you know, like a mansion. there's a castle we went to. All of them were buildings. But you know where I enjoyed myself the most when I was in Ireland when I was in people's homes?
Starting point is 00:16:13 Yeah. Because we had great discussions. We talked about, you know, what was going on in their country. They were so curious about our politics and Trump. You know, they're asking me all these questions. It was really fascinating. But it was in their homes that I enjoyed myself the most in this other country. But they kept trying to send me to these old houses that nobody lived in.
Starting point is 00:16:34 Yeah. So it's kind of your same point. You know, I mean, you remember the illustration Paul gave in First Corinthians 3? Because they were, what was happening is these people were coming to Christ, and they were putting their faith in the people baptizing them. They're like, ooh, I follow Paul. I follow Apollus. I'll follow. And he kind of makes fun of them.
Starting point is 00:16:57 He's like, I think you're missing the point. And so then he gets into that in First Corinthians, 3. and I'll just pick it, pick it up. But in verse 6, it says, I planted the seed, Apollos watered it, but he's making the point to him. But God made it grow. We were just messengers. This is between you and God.
Starting point is 00:17:16 He's wanting to dwell with you. And then he says, the man who plants and the man who waters have one purpose. And each one would be rewarded, rewarded according to his own labor. But then he makes a statement, for we are God's fellow workers. You are God's field, God's building. Yeah. And so that's the point I think he's making in John 14. He's not saying there's some mansion like a, like we're thinking.
Starting point is 00:17:46 Think of the greatest mansion you've ever thought about, like in heaven and, oh, I get to live there, you know. It's going to be really nice. He's using it as a metaphor of saying, look, you're the building. and me and you are together and it's God and people. Yeah. And so you have his spirit. Which is what everybody really wants in the end.
Starting point is 00:18:09 I think I told this story when Jill and I went to that camp a couple weeks ago with the children's home. And there was that moment, we're sitting there and we're singing that song. I think Hill song sings it. It's in my father's house, there's a place for me. And it's about being,
Starting point is 00:18:27 the whole song is you're singing that, you know, I am a child of God. But that was the line that got me. In my father's house, there's a place for me. And I'm looking at a room with about 80 or 90 orphan kids. And they have their hands either open or in a posture to receive or holding them up in an expression of worship and gratitude. And they're all singing that song. In my father's house, there's a place for me.
Starting point is 00:18:54 And I was like, wow, it just hit different because I'm thinking, you know, these are a lot of kids that didn't have a place to live. of. And that's why they were in a group home. Now, these group homes are amazing ministries, and they're doing the work. They are doing the work of the Lord, particularly the one here that Jill's search on the board at, Black Mountain Home for Children. But to see those students do that, I don't know. I mean, I just broke down in tears because I thought, you know, every one of those kids is testifying right now to the longing that really is in all of our hearts to have a place in a home to belong to a father's house that we can live in. So that idea here, what Jesus is talking about in my father's house, there's many rooms.
Starting point is 00:19:37 And he said, you belong. I want you there. I want you to be, this is the place where you're meant to live. That is the longing of the human heart. And Jesus is saying that's the reason why I got to go, because if I don't go, the spirit's not going to come and live in you and take up as a residence in your human body. Exactly. And a practical illustration of that is like, I mean, when my wife and I first got married, you remember where we lived out, a little apartment on, you know, it's not our neighbors were troubling. And then we moved in that little bitty house that, you know, $32,000. I mean, was it that long ago? And you're like, I mean, they're practically giving that away.
Starting point is 00:20:24 Yeah, there's a reason for that. It was barely standing. But my point is, I mean, now I have more than one house. It's really nice. But it doesn't matter. I mean. But even when you went back and visited that house, which you talked about a few podcasts ago, and they had upgraded and made a little bit. Oh, we all got teary-eyed.
Starting point is 00:20:44 Because of everything that happened there, all the community that were. Well, that was the point. It was like, I mean, my wife, it doesn't matter where we live. You know, we knew true joy with nothing in a shack, you know. I'm hitchhiking to get right. We had one vehicle. I mean, it, but we were together, and it was love. It was real love.
Starting point is 00:21:06 It did not matter. And I think that's what you got to get in your head. These are all illustrations to show it doesn't matter where we live. Right. As long as we're together. I mean, any trip that you go on, who's with you is the predominant factor. Yeah. Because I've been to some of the world's most spectacular places with a group of people that were miserable.
Starting point is 00:21:27 I mean, even when I went to Israel, it wasn't a, I mean, you had to check a box to say you were a believer. But people were like, free trip to Israel, VIP, rolling out the red carpet. Well, that just, that brought in a lot of people that it's very difficult to be with for a sustained period of time. I'm trying to be nice here. Because they would gripe and complain about everything, you know, and you're like, man, it's hard to live with these people. I mean, look at that, because I was, my view, is everything was positive and awesome. This is basically a picture of the Bible one. But for people who were just trying to be an influencer, because that was the idea,
Starting point is 00:22:11 but if you had a lot of influence in social media, you got invited because Israel, they would pay for it for you to make them look great. That was the deal. Somehow we got the request. And I was like, free trip to Israel, let's go. I'm in. But I didn't think about, I was with a large group of people who had other reasons for doing that, you know. And it was very difficult. It basically turned into a Bible study about, because problems happen. People are crying and, you know, lives were broken. And it was a pretty tough trip, even though it was VIP paid for. And so that's my point. I think the trip of life, which God's eternal, that's what he's saying. I want to dwell with you forever. And the fact that he's welcoming us in should be appealing. Yeah. Well, it's interesting because Lisa sells
Starting point is 00:23:04 houses and it's very interesting because people buy houses. We live where she's selling houses in a place. It's very nice and beautiful settings and on the water and sunsets and all the things you love. But we've had so many people, and I say we, because you're not married to a real estate agent that you're not a part of listening to all their discussions. There are some miserable, terrible situations over beautiful homes and beautiful places because the family is so disruptive and dysfunctional that even in the most beautiful setting, it can be a miserable place to be.
Starting point is 00:23:42 And that's really about what goes on inside. And that's really kind of what our whole conversation was. I mean, watch a few episodes of Dateline. It doesn't matter where you live. You know, man. It's actually, you know, more monsters sometimes in the perfect set because they really like those stories. Right.
Starting point is 00:23:59 And some of them are preachers and, you know, whatever. So you read a verse, I want to read this verse. You read a verse last time from First Thessalonians 5. And so I want to advance our story a little bit to get into a little bit of this in our remaining time on the podcast because we're kind of going to shift down to the Holy Spirit. I feel like we kind of explained the idea that when, because both. Thomas and Philip question Jesus' statements to him. I mean, one of them is like, well, how do we know?
Starting point is 00:24:32 We don't know where you're going. And then he says, well, I am the way, the truth and the law. I mean, in other words, if you know me, you know. And then Philip says, well, if you just show us the father, that'll be enough. And he's like, well, have you not been watching and listening? Because I've been telling you all along if you've seen the father, you've seen me. So he kind of explains it. But then that's when he shifts into this conversation about the link that
Starting point is 00:24:54 brings it all together, being the Holy Spirit. Well, he actually gave them the answer. When Thomas said, Lord, we don't know where you're going, so how can we know the way? So he went Google Maps. Yeah, exactly. Like, okay, you're going. You're going to prepare a plate. Well, how are we going to get there?
Starting point is 00:25:14 Well, you give that to me, so I can put it in my phone. It's like a trip, you know. We're going to Israel, but now when's my plane taken off? Right. Where's the exact location? And he's like, I am, which is the phrase for God that he used referred to himself. He's equating himself with God over and over again, kind of subtly. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:25:36 But at this point, we got it. You got it. I am the good shepherd. I am the light of the world. I mean, what are the other ones? I am the resurrection. So here he's like, I am the way. How can a person be the way?
Starting point is 00:25:53 but I think it's I always bring that illustration about the jewel of the Nile because I was so shocked they were looking for this jewel in the Harrison Ford and at some point you realize
Starting point is 00:26:05 it's just this dude you know this guy he is the jewel it's a guy and I was like where'd they get that idea John 14
Starting point is 00:26:17 you know the whole movie was about the jewel was actually a person who had special supernatural Michael D. Douglas. Powers. Was it Michael Duglin? Yeah, Michael Douglas.
Starting point is 00:26:25 It's been a while since I watched the movie. Only I would know that. You're thinking, Temple of Dam. You could play that Indiana Jones. You just crossed over two genres from me. No, I remember him said, I am the jewel. He was the jewel of the Nile. Yeah, this is the jewel of Nile.
Starting point is 00:26:37 It was a guy. It was a guy from the Middle East who had special powers. I don't know where they got that idea. Oh, it's a guy. It's a person is the jewel? Right. And, well, now, Jesus is kind of doing the same thing. You trust me.
Starting point is 00:26:54 But then he gets into this language about I'm leaving, but I'm coming. Yeah. I mean, just a few verses later. Well, how is that possible? Yeah. Well, there's another aspect. Because up until this time, it's mainly been about the father and him. Right.
Starting point is 00:27:10 But there are one. He said that three times before that we pointed out. Me and the father are one. Well, now there's another one, which is he's referring to as the counselor. So, and he says, let me just read 50. and 16, and then I want to refer back to a verse you had in Thessalonus. If you love me, you will obey what I command in verse 15, 14. And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another counselor to be with you forever,
Starting point is 00:27:39 the spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him because it neither sees him nor knows him, but you know him, for he lives with you, meaning himself, and will be in you, meaning, himself and the spirit. See the cross over there? I will not leave you as orphans, Zach, to your point earlier about the orphanage. I will come to you.
Starting point is 00:28:03 Before long the world will not see me anymore, but you will see me. Because I live, you also will live. On that day you will realize that I am in the Father and you are in me and I am in you. Whoever has my commands and obeys them he is the one who loves me he who loves me will be loved by the father and i too will love him and show myself to him well let me interject because you skip this paragraph and i think on purpose
Starting point is 00:28:37 because this is all response to a question right not you know Thomas was being Thomas like well how do we know the way give me the the GPS then philip said will lord show us the father and that'll be enough because they're still being basic human Right. Which even humans today say that. Well, I tell you what, if God could see him. So it's a natural. So, but then he says, well, don't you know, Philip, even after I've been among you such a long time,
Starting point is 00:29:10 anyone who has seen me has seen the father. I just want to bring this up because that's a very important sentence. Because Jesus basically is saying, there's a God and you're looking at him. Correct. in a human form. Because then you should say, God became a man. He came to earth.
Starting point is 00:29:29 I mean, that's opening up your mind. So then he's like, how can you show me the father? Well, don't you believe that I am in the father and the father is in me? All this, what you just read, now gives this sense because he's like,
Starting point is 00:29:44 we're one. But there's another aspect to this because then he goes on to say, the words I say to you are not just mine, it's the father living in me who is doing his work. Believe me, I am in the father and the father is in me. And you should believe just based on the miracles themselves, how am I doing these miracles? There's another power at work here. But then he gets practical, and he says, I'll tell you the truth. Anyone who has faith in me will do what I've been doing.
Starting point is 00:30:18 Because he's introducing the idea that I'm going to give you my spirit so you can do the same things. but then I find this fascinating. He will do even greater things than these than what he's doing, because I am going to the Father. It's like, that's why I'm leaving. Because then you have to figure out what his point is, and I think his point, maybe Zach can comment,
Starting point is 00:30:42 is that as long as Jesus is confined to this human body, he can only be at one place at one time. Right. but if he leaves and then pours out that spirit that he has, that is God, into millions of other people. Billions now. Billions. You can just take over the world.
Starting point is 00:31:06 Well, it's funny you say that. There's a book on my shelf behind me by Tom Holland, and the name of it is Dominion. And the book is essentially a historical analysis of, what has been the impact of Christianity on the world? And he just goes back and historically traces all this. And when you look at the impact, the things that we take for granted, like your hospital systems,
Starting point is 00:31:34 those do not happen in a secular environment. Hospitals were created by Christians, people who carry the Holy Spirit. I mean, you use the abolishment of slavery. I mean, there's the advancements in science. You look at the impact that Christ had on the world, and you kind of come back to this moment right here, and you think, whoa, what he said,
Starting point is 00:31:54 you'll do greater things than me, a lot of people interpret that as some kind of like, just he's talking about miracles. No, no, this is way beyond the miracles. It is about us exercising as vice regents, our God-given mandate to cultivate the earth and have dominion over it. So we are, I mean, that's what we were originally told to do,
Starting point is 00:32:13 be fruitful, multiply, cultivate the earth, have dominion over it. And that got thwarted by the fall. but in Christ, through the Holy Spirit now, this is the kingdom, right? The kingdom is spreading across the entire globe. And so we don't have the same world that we live and not anywhere close to where we live now. If you take out Jesus or, one, if you leave Jesus and the Holy Spirit never comes. I mean, we don't have the world we have today without the Holy Spirit and dwelling believers.
Starting point is 00:32:44 It's pretty powerful. No, it is. I just wanted to bring that up. The last verse is, then he even said, and now you also have access to the Father, because he says if you ask, whatever you ask in my name, so the Son may bring glory to the Father,
Starting point is 00:32:59 you may ask me anything and I'll do it. So you have access now to the creator of the universe and that power. And it's in you. Yeah. So that's why when you see an orphan kid, I mean, y'all know the story about me, you know, helping this kid.
Starting point is 00:33:16 well, I'm getting that from God. I mean, it's a lot of work. It's a lot of sacrifice. You know, but I'm moved because I'm looking at this kid going back to our treasure hunting illustration thinking he's valuable. This is the sheep on the shoulder. Which takes you back to the John 13. That's why you serve.
Starting point is 00:33:36 That's why you wash the feet of other people. So I want to close in the last couple of minutes here because we've got a guest coming on for our last segment. May your whole spirit, soul and body be kept. blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. As you read that in the last podcast, 1st Thessalonians 5, 23. And then the next book to the Thessalon,
Starting point is 00:33:57 the second Thessalon is two. He says this. The same group of people, but look how he frames it the second go around. This will set us up to talk more about the Holy Spirit. But we also ought to thank God for you, brothers, loved by the Lord, 213, because from the beginning,
Starting point is 00:34:13 God chose you as the first fruits to be saved through the sanctifying work of the Spirit and through belief in the truth. He called you to this through our gospel that you might share in the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ. It's so good, because it just shows you that picture. And I love the idea of what you described last time. You can't separate out body, soul, and spirit.
Starting point is 00:34:36 They're one. And yet they're brought blameless through the sanctifying work, the Holy Spirit. And I love the way he called them the first fruits, because the idea is you were the first ones after the first born overall creation to now receive that Holy Spirit. And the whole picture is just there's a new creation
Starting point is 00:34:53 out there. And you'll see them coming because they're doing Jesus things. They're looking at people that have just made poor decisions and their life is a wreck and you're like, hey, you want a new start? I know a guy. Yeah, exactly.
Starting point is 00:35:08 And you see this transformation. That's why I'm sitting here because I saw that in life with my dad, and my mom. Yeah. They couldn't have been making any more worse decisions. Exactly. And then all of a sudden, and their whole body,
Starting point is 00:35:25 so in spirit was literally deteriorating before our eyes, you know? And almost lost everything. Oh, yeah. But it was a spiritual decision that changed them. So it changed them. So we got a guess coming on next. And so here's how I'm going to say, here's my tease, Jay's. So other than my wife and my mom,
Starting point is 00:35:44 This woman who's about to come on our podcast has changed my life more than anyone on planet Earth. Oh, wow. So it has that for a setup. That's quite the setup. That's quite the setup. So we will reveal our mystery guests talking about life change right after we take this break. Welcome back. So imagine, Jays, if Frankenstein the monster had met Dr. Frankenstein for the first time.
Starting point is 00:36:16 what would that have been like? That's the way I feel today, sitting here on the unashamed set as we welcome in our guest, Dr. Ashley Lucas, because you are my fat scientist. She's not fat. No, no, she's my fat scientist. I was fat, Zach.
Starting point is 00:36:33 And now because of her. So when she, when my first, because I've not met Ashley, even though she's been on the podcast, because you're from Asheville. That's right. And so you were in Zach's studio when you were on the podcast.
Starting point is 00:36:44 So we haven't met in person. I've watched I don't know, hundreds. I've watched dozens of your videos because you send them out because you keep up with your people, which now I realize I'm telling all the secrets on why this works because you're telling people great information. And you are a scientist, you're a doctor.
Starting point is 00:37:01 And so I've been telling the audience, I think you're positioned uniquely to help people just like you help me because you help explain the why of it very well. And so to your people. So you're my fat scientist. but your fat counselors are the people that talk to me every week. And I have a relationship with them as well. So when I walked in and I met you today, I was like, you did this.
Starting point is 00:37:25 And you said what? I said, no, I didn't. You said you did. That's what a good scientist will do. It's like, so she's been influential because she made a lot less of you. Exactly. And look, Jay, she got the ultimate endorsement.
Starting point is 00:37:42 So they're filming for the revival of Duck Dynasty next. door over in the other podcast room and I walked by the door and I realized Willie looks up and they're filming and he looks up and he sees me walk by the door and I see him do a double take and as soon as they took a break he runs in here to meet you because he's like I hadn't seen out since he was fat what happened to see that's the ultimate endorsement that's right which is good right yeah so welcome back to unashamed and thank you I get to tell you in person thank you for all you've done for me because obviously it's been a life changer for me just to be healthy and I want to talk about that today because last time we talked about your story and kind of how you got started with
Starting point is 00:38:24 the business but I wanted to ask you about the health components because we're obviously trying to convince people that are listening and I get text all the time they just posted a picture last night on my social media of me from January to a few weeks ago and they're really pictures that are well done so it shows it well. But you wouldn't believe the texts that started rolling in from friends of mine around the country who maybe don't listen to the podcast so they didn't know.
Starting point is 00:38:50 And that was the first time they'd really noticed. And what they really don't know, the looks of it is one thing. I look great, I feel great. But the health component is really the most amazing thing to me because I'm about to do all my wellness checks next week. And I'm almost convinced I'm going to be off all of my meds that I was on going in.
Starting point is 00:39:12 And I hadn't, this is an announcement, Dr. Ashley. I haven't said this before right now that I got off my CPAP machine two weeks ago. Congratulations. Yeah, and I mean, it has been life-changing. I can sleep now without the hoses and the noise, although it takes a little getting used to after 15 years. 15 years you were using.
Starting point is 00:39:31 15 years that I've been on that CPAP machine. And then how long did it take to be able to let that go? How many weeks? Probably. Well, so I started trying it when Lisa and I, like, she would be in Alabama and I would be here because I was still afraid I would keep her up. And I wasn't sure if I was snoring or not. And so I started sleeping with that, but I was sleeping better. Like I wouldn't wake up congested because I had all these congestion issues. And so it took me about a month to kind of wean off of it. But now for the last two weeks, I haven't slept with it at all. I've been sleeping great. I've been sleeping good on this whole diet. But now without that, that's like a ball and a chain. Because I travel, I have to take it with me. I'm fearful of not being with it. And so, I mean, that has done wonders for me.
Starting point is 00:40:16 So what kind of stories do you hear from people about health-wise, meds, things like I just shared? I mean, you get that lot. Amazing. All the time. I hear that all the time. Reversing type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, fatty liver. Sleep apnea is a big one.
Starting point is 00:40:33 People don't even realize that that might be a possibility. And it's amazing how quickly we can see these changes. For a lot of folks who are on insulin, it might even be one to two weeks where we see drops in that medication. There's something magical about 16 weeks where the body really can start to heal itself. And it's usually around that 16 week mark where we can start to see the difference. So I wonder for you, Al, when you were able to start dropping those medications if it was around week 12, 16 or something. Isn't that weird? They cut it in half.
Starting point is 00:41:07 My blood pressure medicine cut in half about that exact mark. That's right. So interesting. You guys were talking about treasure hunting and things that were lost and what we can find and the joy that it brings. And so it sounds to me, Al, like you have found better health, better sleep. Like so many things we can find in the process of life transformation of which I think weight loss definitely is classified as.
Starting point is 00:41:32 You know the number one statement I get asked every time someone, will see me for the first time or see something online. They say, here's the word they use, which is interesting. They're like, oh, you look great. I get that some. But it's mostly you look healthy. They use the word healthy, which is interesting because there's a lot of different reasons why people lose weight.
Starting point is 00:41:54 Sometimes they get sick. There's a lot of things that are unhealthy about sudden weight loss. We were talking about people on drugs. We have a friend that used to be a drug addict. Drug addicts are usually very skinny. Yeah. that's not healthy, obviously, and they don't look healthy. And so it is interesting that with this plan, that you look healthier because you are healthier. That's right. And nowadays,
Starting point is 00:42:16 there are a lot of ways to go through weight loss with medications. And if not done the right way, which the majority of people are not taking these medications well, they're losing a whole bunch of muscle and you look strong and your skin looks great. Have you noticed a difference with that? A big difference. Yeah, big time. And what your body can tolerate. I remember when you started the program, you shared with me that you couldn't exercise. It didn't feel good. Yeah, it made me nausea. Yeah, your body was so inflamed. Yeah. So when you can go through a fat loss journey and do it naturally without any kind of medications and actually get off medications because you're transforming your health, the outcome is so different.
Starting point is 00:42:59 Well, look, and not only that, like, I told Lisa, I was like, now look, because, you know, we've been a part of church a long time. So there'll be people that go through weight loss through different programs and plans. And I have to admit, most of the time, a lot of the time, they look much older and their skin doesn't look good through the process. And so I kept telling her to say, look, babe, I'm fixing to do this weight loss thing. I'm convinced it's going to work because Dr. Axson and her crew are so convinced, but I'm going to look terrible. So just be ready for that Because I'm going to look ancient and old and saggy Because I've seen that so many times
Starting point is 00:43:35 So I was like trying to prepare her Now get ready Because like it's going to be great I'll skinny, eh But I'm going to look terrible But was I ever wrong about that? What does she think? Well, if she were here
Starting point is 00:43:48 She'd say she can't keep her hands off movie But that's all the discussion Hey, it's legal It's God sanctioned If she were here She'll tell you that tonight I'm sure that we won the first agency. So how does this, I mean, I read somewhere that, you know, you break a habit.
Starting point is 00:44:03 It takes three weeks to break a habit. I'm not sure that's sanctioned, but I read that somewhere. So because I think from my perspective is the most difficult thing is how to start and how does this work. So take us through exactly for people that may not know what you are even talking about. I mean, how does this process work? So the first step is to have a consultation with one of our nutritional. because everybody is different. The plan is going to look different.
Starting point is 00:44:31 So Al's program looks different than Zax, which would look different than another person. So we make sure we customize the length of the program and what the program actually involves to the individual. Once the individual's ready to get started, we focus on what they're eating and when they're eating by creating customized and personalized plans. That takes out all the guesswork.
Starting point is 00:44:55 So, Al, you know exactly what you're eating, for what meals, and it makes the process as easy and simple as possible. We provide a lot of the food at no additional cost. It's just a tool. But the dinner meal is the person's responsibility because I want it to become a habit, a new habit, and become an expert at one meal at a time. So I bet, Al, now you are super confident in what to eat for dinner. You can travel.
Starting point is 00:45:21 You can go to Ireland and understand what you should be looking for. And then as we go, we gradually release any of the foods and start to practice lunch and breakfast and snacks while you're having one-on-one coaching with one of our great nutritionists, yours is Heather. And she's guiding you through how you think about food, your mindset, the sabotaging triggers, the old habit demons that might come back up through your journey and just helping you navigate so that this becomes your new identity. That's what this has to be, is an identity shift so that you can actually keep the weight off for good. And that's my ultimate goal.
Starting point is 00:45:58 I think the big issue is a lot of people don't have a weight loss problem. They have a weight maintenance problem. We don't often talk about maintenance because it's not as sexy as dropping weight, but it is the most important part. And that's what we're really doing is setting every person up for success to actually keep the weight off for good and be healthier in the end, not just less on the scale. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:46:21 And even like Heather, to me, it's not only encouraging to know you're going to have that conversation every week and accountable, but also she's been like already beginning the conversation to steer me into what's called maintenance, which is what happens when you achieve the goal you're trying to get to, but then you want to be this way the rest of your life and be changed by that. And you know things you can't unknow. And I have to say, Dr. Ashley, that your confidence, that first consultation we had, because I got an opportunity to tell to you.
Starting point is 00:46:54 Not everybody gets that. I realized that. But I had that opportunity. But you were so confident that we were going to get there. And I was so not confident. I know. You weren't. I mean, because I had already been through several things.
Starting point is 00:47:06 I just tried to myself. And yet you're like, oh, let's see here. You're doing the math. You're like, oh, yeah, we'll be here. Yeah, no problem. And you just never even doubted it. But I told Lisa later, I was like, you know, she seems to think that we're going to do this. And that helped me to think it can be done.
Starting point is 00:47:21 I mean, it really is a common. confidence thing for people to realize you can be here and you can be changed. And look, I know there's a thousand reasons not to do it in terms of in our minds and the way it works. But sometimes you just have to take that leap and go, right? I mean, you decide you're going to do it. You got to have the faith in yourself, the confidence, the belief, the hope that change can be possible. It's just like all of the transformation stories you guys have been sharing, weight loss is no different. And no matter what you've been through in the past. I mean, you had tried Ozmpic and it didn't work for you. It made me sick. And you thought, oh my gosh, what am I going to do? And I remember your goal was to
Starting point is 00:48:00 drop 60 pounds while you were turning 60. And I said, oh, no, that's going to be a little bit more. She did. Oh, yeah. She's like, keep going. And she was right. Well, and you have all this baggage that you bring. I mean, my dad was just so blunt in life about everybody's anatomy. But, and, and You know, his answer to weight loss was, Al, too many honey buns. And everybody would laugh, you know. And even like you brought up the Duck Dynasty remake, they were wanting me and Willie to have an interview,
Starting point is 00:48:37 and they wanted it to be funny. And they wanted me to make fun of Willie. And so they had a few fat jokes, you know, that they had come up with. I looked at, I was like, I don't need any fat jokes. I've been making fun of Willie our whole life because we've just, you know, been doing that. But in a way, it's like since it was funny, it's like, well, it's not a problem. You know, you kind of, that just becomes your identity. And I do think psychologically it is a factor in there.
Starting point is 00:49:09 And so I think that's why this plan really works. You kind of break down the old baggage in the way you think. Well, the joke has been, we're out of time. But the joke has been for me, actually, I've done it on some of the ads. is that you know, PhD, we were approached by you guys or we approached you guys. And they needed a guinea pig from our podcast, and I was the fattest pig. And so I got the gig. And I'm so lucky that you were.
Starting point is 00:49:36 Exactly. And that I can say that. But really, thank you from the bottom of my heart. I'm so glad you're here in Westmorenoe to celebrate some new things for me and with me. And I just want to encourage everybody in the audience. So look, if you guys are interested, You know, we do ads for this. My PhD weight loss.com is a good way to reach you.
