Unashamed with the Robertson Family - Ep 1429 | Uncle Si Is Somehow Getting Younger & the Robertsons Have Proof

Episode Date: September 28, 2026

Uncle Si earns a new nickname after proving he can still hang with the younger bucks, and an old proverb of Phil’s sparks a conversation about ego, failure, and learning to serve instead of seeking ...the spotlight. A popular end-times interpretation gets put to the test as Jase, Al, and Zach dig into James 5, Matthew 24, and Jesus’ warning about the destruction of the temple. The guys examine whether passages often connected to the final tribulation were actually pointing to judgment that would come within that generation, while still affirming Christ’s future return.  In this episode: James 1:1; James 2:1; James 3; James 5:1-11; Matthew 23:37; Matthew 24:1-24; Mark 13; Luke 21; Genesis 4; Genesis 18-19; Genesis 21; Exodus 30; John 2; 1 Corinthians 6; Ephesians 2; Revelation 21-22; Ezra 2; Nehemiah Want to watch Unashamed ad-free? Starting point is 00:00:57 I am unashamed. What about you? Welcome back to Unashamed. um jace is buying stocks over here it must be down jays yeah because you buy when it goes down right is that the way over well i went duck hunting an announcement we have shot our first duck of i guess
Starting point is 00:01:19 2006 and 27 guess who shot the duck and there was no argument about it sigh oh uncle sigh which it sounds better than it was because look, so we're, because it was, the wind was blowing this morning. This was day three that I've hunted. First two, nothing.
Starting point is 00:01:42 I skipped one day, and that's when Burley and his protege. Oh, yeah, I had some come in and they missed him on. Yeah, yeah. So we officially had not struck, but at about 6.45 while y'all were sleeping, we saw a teal come by. But we saw some wood ducks, too. We haven't been seeing that. I said,
Starting point is 00:02:04 there's something, there's something happening. It wasn't a little cooler today too, right? Wasn't cooler. It was just the wind was wrong. So tomorrow, though, it's 10 degrees colder, which you think,
Starting point is 00:02:16 oh, wow, that means it'll just be normal. Right. It would be 92, well, right. That's right. We've had the worst heat wave. But I looked up, and here came a teal.
Starting point is 00:02:27 He came flying by at a very high rate of speed. No doubt it was a deal. And he came over the decoys out of gun range and just heading south. I said, unbelievable. We finally saw one. And he never acknowledged our presence. We blew the duck calls.
Starting point is 00:02:47 I'm like, we sell duck calls. That didn't work. So everybody was singing the blues. And I made a prediction. I said, he'll be back. I was like, that's what they do. He saw it. So about 10 minutes later, we're all sitting there.
Starting point is 00:03:02 and I said, you'll hear him before you see him. And we heard, I said, there he is. I looked around. He actually worked three times. And then the third pass, he just broke down. And I said, there you go. First duck of the year as we were getting up. I said, somebody shoot him, and nobody would shoot.
Starting point is 00:03:24 I was just sitting there with my gun up. I mean, it was 1001, 1002. I probably got to 13. and he's disappeared out of my he just went under the blind and I said get him up because I thought surely he's on the water and nobody wanted to shoot it shows you about the inner man because it led to a 10 minute discussion on no man likes an island due to ego
Starting point is 00:03:51 because what if you meant I mean this duck was just coming in perfect but size of one that shot but I thought he shot him flying, but they said he took two flaps off the water, so, I mean, he was off the water, but barely, probably the easiest shot in the world. But to Cy's credit, because you think, I mean, size is almost 80 years ago.
Starting point is 00:04:13 Well, I'd been hearing stories about Cy in Dove Hunt, that he was, Stone said he was hitting a lot of birds. Well, you know, he's had LASIC surgery to go along with this new teeth. So I say that Cy is the Benjamin Buttons of the Robertson family because he seems to be going back he said he's going to live to be a hunter
Starting point is 00:04:32 do you tell me did they tell you about the big time we had last night oh yeah we got into that it was you and sigh versus Philip and Stone
Starting point is 00:04:43 and dominoes we strapped them Philip he left the game and called me but I was asleep because it's still season and it was a full breakdown
Starting point is 00:04:55 out of how he just got strapped He was depressed. I could hear it in his voice. Well, what heard him was, I mean, you know how it is in Davenosa J's. I mean, Sider are probably the more experienced players, but you know, playing with Syes like a, you never know. I mean, he's my partner.
Starting point is 00:05:10 You got to let him do whatever he does. Exactly right. If he gets good hands, you can win. You can win. But he, they needed 15 and we needed 55. It was one of those. Yeah. That's what they said.
Starting point is 00:05:21 They had that right. Yeah. And we beat them, we wound up inching them by a nickel. And played almost a whole hand with them needing 15. which is pretty impressive. But I told him I was into Jay's mode because normally I play with side you just kind of, you know,
Starting point is 00:05:34 you just have to figure it out with him. Well, we're back to that ego conversation because in Domino's, there has to be some sacrificing for, and look, I don't know how, there's very few people who understand the game of Domino's listening, mate, because that seems like an old game.
Starting point is 00:05:55 But wherever, you know, if you down it, If your partner plays for the first time, well, he's pretty much in control, and you have to give up your hand trying to help him play all of his dominance. Right. To my Benjamin Button comment, the last game, I got the last two fives and the last two fours, and Si had one five, and he had his choice to cut it or go fives, and he had no more because I had the last two.
Starting point is 00:06:22 He turned the five. So I went, bam, bam, bamb, 20 and. I mean, a triple. Did he just get lucky? That's the question. Or did he figure it out? He said, I don't know what to do before he played it. He was honest.
Starting point is 00:06:35 Well, that was good. But, you know, he's coming in, he's coming to my neck of the woods on Friday. Oh, yeah. So he'll be, him and Philip and Martin are coming down, right down the mountain, probably about 30 minutes from my house. So, but they're not going to stop by either, Jace. I've already asked him, so I'm going to go.
Starting point is 00:06:52 Keep bringing that up. Zach, I'll fix the brag on you, but now I don't know. But Zach knows that moment of that. being on an island because he had that experience last year on Malar Drake. Yeah. And borderline miraculously dusted the duck. It's one of the most shocking things I've ever seen.
Starting point is 00:07:13 That is. Borderline who talks like Zach, who dresses like Zach, who lives like Zach, just to raise up on the island. And boo! Just take him down. If you don't understand what I mean by the island, because the pressure with men in that setting with egos and everybody because everybody and this is what the conversation was about which I think it's a there's a spiritual practicality
Starting point is 00:07:38 if we if we get into the oath making back to James yeah we're going to get there today which I know it seems weird but we had a lot of time off and then when we had a lot of guests and so it seems like we just abandoned the book of James we have but we're making a return today but I do think it's important what's going on in your mind because I know how people think in a duck blind because the guys on the ends are the captains. Yeah. They get to shoot more because they have a bigger area of the earth to shoot.
Starting point is 00:08:11 Yeah, because you can swing right or left, depending on which end your own, freely. You don't have a person there. They get to call the shots. They get more shooting. So deep down, everybody wants to be on the end because that's the nature of man
Starting point is 00:08:28 it's the oh who's going to sit on my right and my left well I view that verse says that's the two corners of the blind that's pretty good now too what happens is because Berley was in there and he had a confession today I mean it was real therapeutic today
Starting point is 00:08:43 because Burley he said all my life because he's been hunting with us for 30 years a long time he said I've always wanted to be on the end because I thought boy if you put me down there. Then I would show you what I can do. And last year, in a weird set of circumstances, mainly because I didn't think any ducks were going to go to that end, we put Burley there because we had a two-way blind.
Starting point is 00:09:09 So we had him on the end. I didn't tell him this, that I didn't think he would ever get a shot because the way the wind was. Because in his mind, he had arrived. So in me being the captain, I was trying to put everybody where I thought we could have the best chance to succeed. So I put him on the furthest point where I thought there would actually be a duck, but he didn't know that. He thought I'm on the end. Well, I was wrong because they kept coming out that end. And I'd say, did you get them burly? Nope. Did you get them burly? Nope. So after the
Starting point is 00:09:43 hunt, we were walking to the rigs and he said, all my life, he was sharing this today. He said, have always wanted to be on that island. And he said, I don't want to be on that island. And so, but you know, Jay, another reason the island's such a big deal is because, in my opinion, there's about five scenes that stand out from all the early duckmen footage. And one of the top five was, was W.E. Phillips, Bill Phillips, on an island. Yeah. Y'all had killed everything up to one duck for a limit.
Starting point is 00:10:21 We've talked about this before. A thousand plus came in. I think it was actually a few hundred. We said a thousand because it looked like a thousand, but once you watch the footage, it was 300 that looked like a thousand. Literally, right it in the face. They lit, they lit out in front of them, in the deco.
Starting point is 00:10:40 Then it's like you need one. And so Bill's on the island for one, and he misses three times. But our dad put him on the island because we're all like, well, there's too many to shoot. Right. Because we don't want to kill over the limit. We're filming this. This is spectacular.
Starting point is 00:10:56 What do we do? And then my dad, unannounced. We didn't have a plan before. He said, all right, red. He called him many names. Red dog. Red shoes. Red shoes.
Starting point is 00:11:08 W.E., Bill, Billy. But he said, all right. I think he said red. Yeah. Pick you one out. Shoot you. But when he said it loud while the ducks got up. And he raised up.
Starting point is 00:11:23 And I think he shot twice. I don't think he shot three times because my dad later said, why not just run it dry? But after the... And it's that old deal about there's so many ducks to be impossible to miss. Because you got to realize, you said, well, that was only two shots.
Starting point is 00:11:43 But inside each shell, there are a hundred. B. Yeah. You think just the pattern alone. You've thrown 200 BBs into, I'm saying minimum 300 to 500 ducks. And you don't cut a feather? And so Bill just, he stomps away. He threw his gun down.
Starting point is 00:12:02 He threw his gun down. And the camera follows him in this walk of shame. And y'all are all laughing so hard. Well, Phil and Benny were laughing, which is weird because neither one of those fellows are on the planet anymore. I was thinking about the filming. I thought he ruined that scene. We've just, because we kind of got to have a reputation of being good shots, which, I mean, I'm not bragging.
Starting point is 00:12:31 I'm just saying we were. A guy told me that, just a guy ran into in Georgia told me that the other day, said, I used to watch all the old duckman stuff. And he said, and y'all never missed. And I was like, well, it would appear that way. Well, when we, but Phil said a famous line. he was transparent about it. He's like, people don't want to see you,
Starting point is 00:12:49 Biss. Now, we showed that miss. But if we got a bunch in there and didn't do very well, we just didn't run it. You just run it when you hit them. I guess about a year or so ago, I was in a meeting with Willie and Corey.
Starting point is 00:13:04 Actually, Corey and myself, and we were talking to a particular network about a show we were pitching. And it just got to be really clear that the difficulty in media, it's not just that we need more Christian content. It's the gatekeepers that stop that content from actually getting to market. And it's one of the reasons why we became part of a new platform called ECHL, because we really believe
Starting point is 00:13:28 that we need not just the content, we need the platforms, the services that allow this kind of content that is not degrading the mind of our culture and our families to make it into the homes of so many children and families. And so ECHO is one of the ways that we're participating in that. Echo is way more than just a streaming service. It's got movies, series, podcasts, daily devotionals. It's got kids' content and a whole lot more coming soon. Plus, it's the only place you can get every episode of this podcast for free. A lot of you don't like the ads or the episodes and get it, you know,
Starting point is 00:14:01 but we've got to pay the bills around here. But this is a way you can actually subscribe, and you won't have to worry about any ads on this podcast or any podcast that's on the ad-free version. You've got other podcasts that are ad-free, like blurry creatures, full-fledged with Priscilla Shire, and new stuff is being added all the time. My daughter Ruth, she loves the kids' content like Light of the World and Franklin. So all you have to do is go to echo.com, eKKL.com. Check it out. Starting point is 00:14:33 That's eKKL.com code go unashamed. Starting point is 00:15:41 I can tell you this, when Jill and I buy a new home, these are the guys that we're going to use. We trust them. We've known them for a while now. Meta Meta Worship event in Monroe, Louisiana a few years ago. So if you're in the market or even if you just want to check out your current deal, your current mortgage, go to Andrew and Todd. com for a free mortgage and refinance review and see if your deal still makes sense. Visit Andrew and Todd.com today or call AAA-Tri-8-1172. But we were honest about you're going to miss.
Starting point is 00:16:12 And I'll tell you right now. And I said that. I made an announcement today because a duck commander just came out with a kind of a going back in history and over teal season and showing like the greatest hits. But they modern day interviewed us about it. Without us seeing it, we all told the stories from four or five different perspectives. Of course, size was always a very embellished story. Which made it funny. But when I watched that, I thought, we're well.
Starting point is 00:16:44 Way away from where we used to be on as far as gunning. Now, having said that, we shot the one duck, sigh, one shot, got a teal, and then 30 minutes later, here come another. We were just sitting there. We were fixed to go, because teal, it doesn't last very long. As I said, I think tomorrow's the day, which I do, because I told you, temperature change. But I heard wings. I heard, I said, what is that?
Starting point is 00:17:09 And I looked up, and he didn't even make three passes. He just went under the brush. And I was like, somebody, boom, and Jay shot him. One, just perfect shot. So we actually fired two shots and killed two till. And Jay's was a lot harder shot because it was legitimately flying. I mean, it was coming out of the decoys. And so I thought, well, so we're two for two.
Starting point is 00:17:35 But overall, no, the quality. But, you know, we're training duck boys. And we had one of the duck boys today. and then we had Burley and he's now transparent about his shooting skills. He just said, you know, I'm just a middleman. I bring groceries.
Starting point is 00:17:52 I brush blinds. I'm here. I have a role. Well, he said that. He's a worker bee. He is. And he always has been. His dad was the same way.
Starting point is 00:18:01 But that guy has the heart of a servant. Works harder than two men working. And I'm glad he comes down. I send him a note because, you know, anytime you're always proud of your kids. And the last time I preached here at our church, the women's retreat that happened. And one of his daughters was one of the worship leaders. And then the other one had led the retreat.
Starting point is 00:18:24 And so I did a little Q&A with them on stage. And just, man, salt to the earth, women of God. And so I just sent Burley a note. I said, you know, I love it when I hear good things about my kids. I just wanted to know you raised two really good ones, which he was proud of that. But you know what he said to have the spiritual application to this? he said you know i realized it's not because everybody would like the you know like to shoot ducks and have people brag on them and he was telling that he said but i realize it's a lot like being
Starting point is 00:18:55 a member of the kingdom you got to be here to serve and have something to offer he said what do you bring to the table he said you remember when you told me a few years ago which i didn't he said uh he said what you said was which i can't believe i said this kind of embarrassing. But he said, you know, for years, I viewed you as a liability. He said, but you have crossed over to becoming an asset. And I said, I said that to you. He said, yeah.
Starting point is 00:19:25 He said, it kind of hurt my feelings. But he said, the more I got to thinking about it, I said, I think Jayce gave me a compliment. And I was like, well, that was what was the intent because he is an asset. And he said, but you didn't leave it there. And I was like, oh, boy, what else did I say? He said, then you said, yeah, I used to be depressed when I saw you coming, but now I'm happy. To drive the point out. So, Zach, that was a compliment a minute ago about your Mara.
Starting point is 00:19:53 I took it as a compliment. Okay, we've said that before. I think the, I mean, that's about as good as you'll get right there. That was a raging endorsement. That was pretty good. All right, before we get to James a couple of shoutouts. One is to Hobson, the young man I met in Georgia. I know he and his mom listened to the podcast.
Starting point is 00:20:10 I remember you, Hobson. told you I'll give you a shout at. And then I want to mention Paulette Cooper. I was just up in Arkansas. And when I came out to my table, we were doing like a all-day marriage thing with the church up there. She had put one of those Arkansas hats. It's like a plastic thing that fits over your head. Because, you know, they call the farm animals up in Arkansas, you know, whatever. Maddie's the Arkansas fan, so I can't get too much into it. But it was like this old shell hat. It was a pig. And it was on my seat, you know, as a joke. They all know I'm an LSU fan.
Starting point is 00:20:45 Of course, it was the day we were playing Ole Miss was a big game. Which we lost. Which was a great. I know Zach was happy. Great, you didn't even have a dog in the fight. No, but that's what the haters do. Y'all are trying to hire it.
Starting point is 00:21:03 You don't have a team to pull for. We brought it up. I'll just tell you, the quarterback for Ole Miss, the Chamlas or whatever. He just... He was too good. It was too good. You got beat.
Starting point is 00:21:14 We got a good guy. He got a skill set that he'll be in the NFL. So, yeah. No, that was the bottom line if you watch the game. Yeah. I watched the game. They got to be disciplined. Well, you went to out-cote-cote.
Starting point is 00:21:28 It wasn't about anybody that watched the game said they had a quarterback. We had their coach. Well, you're about to punch it in to try to tie the game up. Here's what you can't do. You've got to be disciplined enough to not have two off-side penalties. You can't be two false starts in a row. That's all true, but in a course of a game, you're going to have mistakes and you're going to have opportunities.
Starting point is 00:21:48 You also need to hit wide open receivers. Yeah, right. Their quarterback played better than everybody else in the game. To a level. We certainly could have won. We had five men around him, fixed to just obliterate him. And he does a shovel flip.
Starting point is 00:22:09 You don't, they're no coaching involved. That's unscripted. You've got five men bearing down and then you get a 30-yard game. Well, he's just better. I was surprised. I was surprised they didn't storm the field. I thought they would have been more excited. I thought this, I told Jill, I said, when.
Starting point is 00:22:26 I was, like, it's too early. But I was impressed with them because the Tennessee fans, you know, when Kiffin went back there, kind of embarrassed themselves with all that, throwing golf balls and bottles and mustard. I mean, I thought Ole Miss was like, okay, we lost him, but we're better. All right, finish your story so we can get in the book of Jane. All right, so I wanted to mention Paulette. She was a funny joke, and I sent Maddie a picture.
Starting point is 00:22:48 She'll show you the picture of the hog. And then Maddie's like, would you wear that? I'm like, Maddie. Come on now. And that be on the internet? No, no, I didn't wear it. But Paulette has a Bible that she dedicates to our podcast, and she writes down podcast numbers.
Starting point is 00:23:04 And I told her when she gets it all done, when she gets them all, Maddie, she's going to send it to you. So then we can have a record of every text. So that'll be something you can work in the edit. So anyway, I had a great weekend, Paulette. Thank you all for your hospitality. It was wonderful. All right.
Starting point is 00:23:17 So we're back to James. Well, I know where we left off, which it's been weeks. If you looked at my notes, it says left off here. Well, but I remember we were going to go, we were going to address this. Because look, what I noticed, I don't know if I shared this before. We're in James Fife. But we can review. This shifts as the Lord.
Starting point is 00:23:40 or the judge starts coming up multiple times. Did I share that? Yeah, that's where we were talking about. It gets all of a sudden personable, which makes sense of his previous arguments in chapter two about if you believe there is a God, your life is going to do certain things, especially when it comes to loving your neighbor
Starting point is 00:24:03 and how you view the law as opposed to a reflection of you burying the image of your maker. Right. And I keep bringing up that middle verse when he said, when he brought up the tongue in James 3 and was like, you can't be blessing God with your mouth, offering blessings to God, and then cursing humans who were made in his image.
Starting point is 00:24:33 Right. I just love that verse. Because I think that's kind of the whole nutshell that he's portraying this. When you think about every good and perfect gift is from above, and then you look in a mirror, and then you walk away and forget what you look like that you were made in the image of God.
Starting point is 00:24:51 And so I think it does come into this God wants to partners with humans, which takes you back to the garden, and there's some wisdom involved. And where you're getting what's coming out of your heart, is it coming from heaven? is it godly or is it earthly of the devil? Well, and we talked about this before. James is one of the early church leaders.
Starting point is 00:25:16 He's, I mean, we think he was also the brother of Jesus, but he's with the guy that was there in Acts, you know, leader of the Jerusalem church. And I don't think he's as prolific a writer as Paul. And maybe it's just because we have more substance from Paul than we did from James. But because, you know, because I thought about it being what you're,
Starting point is 00:25:38 just described as this idea about image bearing to look like Jesus. And he doesn't use that language that Paul, but Paul used it all over his stuff, the idea that we're made in the image of God, but then we see Jesus, we see that in flesh. That gives us something to look at, it's something to be. And Zach, we were talking about this on the Hillsdale podcast about identity with the Odessia stuff. And I think it's the same thing here. It's this idea of that's where identity is found. James is just like his writing. though to me is it's like a blunt instrument. So Jace, I remember it well.
Starting point is 00:26:14 I was in my 40s, you know, didn't have too many major issues going on, a little bit of high cholesterol and blood pressure was beginning to be a problem. And then all of a sudden I could not, I was getting fat. I couldn't lose the weight. You know, before until that point, I could just like cut back a little bit, maybe work out a little bit more. The body began to migrate. It migrated.
Starting point is 00:26:37 It was all right here in the front. It was a massive new. gut and the quick fixes wouldn't work, the fad diets wouldn't work. I tried the gLP one shot. It helped a little bit with the appetite, but then it really didn't get to the heart of the problem. And that's why I love Ph.D. weight loss. They work on restoring your metabolism and helping your body work with you and not against you. So if you're watching this on YouTube, this is me at the start of my journey with this PhD weight loss, 75 pounds later feeling wonderful. Much more energy. Off meds. Off my CPAP machine.
Starting point is 00:27:10 it works and I'm living proof that it works and it can work for you. Right now, when you call and mention Al Robertson, you'll get two free weeks and they'll pay for the cost of your food, which is a $1,500 value. So it's very helpful. Call 864-644-1900. That's 864-644-1900 or go to my PhDWatLoss.com. Because the goal isn't to lose weight once, is to never having to start over again. 864 644-1900 or go to my PhD weight loss.com. He says,
Starting point is 00:27:45 My Brothers and Sisters, which you got a memory, it was mainly a Jewish audience. And it's early. This is one of the earliest. Which I think is important to note when it says to the 12 tribes in 1-1, scattered across the dispersion, you know.
Starting point is 00:28:01 But he says in 2-1, my brothers and sisters, he's calling them brothers and sisters. Do you with your acts of favoritism, really believe in our glorious Lord Jesus Christ? That's it. That's what we're talking about. Is he not your Lord?
Starting point is 00:28:18 Yeah. You're showing favoritism. That doesn't make sense. He doesn't. God didn't show favoritism. He sent Jesus. He loves everyone. That's the, I think, the impression that he's given.
Starting point is 00:28:32 And you can't be looking down on someone. So fast forward to chapter 5. and the way he started when he said, now I'm reading out of, I've added a new Bible to this. I told you about Big Jim, one of my mentors, McGuigan. Was that the one they gave me?
Starting point is 00:28:51 Yeah, his family gave me one of his Bibles. And so this one is, what translation is this? That's a good question. The new revised standard version. So I've just added it to another list. of different versions. But it says, come now you rich people,
Starting point is 00:29:11 weep and well for the miseries that are coming on you. So he starts getting into this oppression. But these are, you get the idea that these are religious leaders. Yeah. Who are oppressing, you know,
Starting point is 00:29:26 poor people for their gain, which is, once again, this is not, you're showing favoritism when it comes to human beings for earthly gain, which is, earthly wisdom, which is of the devil.
Starting point is 00:29:40 And so he kind of addresses these two groups of people in that the ones who are being oppressed, he's like, hang in there. And the ones that are doing the oppressing, which in these case are people that believe in God. So he says, your riches have rotted, your clothes are moth eaten, your gold and silver have rusted, and their rust will be evidence against you, and it will eat your flesh like fire. You have laid up treasure for the last days, which is, in opposition of what Jesus did on the sermon on the Mount. Remember talking about why do you worry about what you wear and what you're going to eat?
Starting point is 00:30:15 Is not your life more valuable than birds? Look how God takes care of the birds. And that's in the sermon on the Mount. Then it says, you have no verse 4. Listen, the wages of the laborers who mowed your fields, which you kept back by fraud, cry out. and the cries of the harvesters have reached the ears of the Lord. And when I read that, I don't think we got into this, but I looked up a lot of examples where the cries to the Lord.
Starting point is 00:30:50 There's a bunch. It starts off when King killed Abel. Remember when he said his blood cries out to me from the ground? The flood, pre-flood, same thing. Sodom and Gama. Mara. Also, Ishmael and Hagar, remember that when she cried and the Lord heard her cry? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:31:11 Yeah. But just think about the practical applications of that. We cry out against oppression and injustice. We have a God who hears that. Right. He takes that into account. I just think a lot of times we get such a rut modern day. We're not really thinking that he's listening.
Starting point is 00:31:30 Right. He's hearing. And so there's countless examples. I don't think that's powerful. That's why I said, this is getting real relational. And so then it says, you have lived on the earth and luxury and in pleasure, you have fatten yourselves in the day of slaughter. You have condemned and murdered the righteous one.
Starting point is 00:31:46 Well, here's another indirect kind of double meaning. Not only are you oppressed these poor people, this is what happened to Jesus. That's the definite reference to him. That phrase, the righteous one, and we did that, who does not resist you. So then he gets to the people being oppressed, be patient, therefore, beloved, until the coming of the Lord. So this is where we left off because we hinted at what does that mean, the coming of the Lord.
Starting point is 00:32:17 Right. Because you have some options. So I'll keep reading, then we'll discuss. The farmer waits for the precious crop from the earth, being patient with it, until it receives the early and the late rains. And there's a subliminal message that, once again, this is a gift from God that we take for granted. Rain.
Starting point is 00:32:38 We plant the seed. We covered up. I mean, I just left a duck hole where we've been doing that for three months, trying to get crops to grow. Well, when will it rain? I'm looking at the weather. But this is ultimately a gift from God that he allows what we want to happen from those crops. I want them to grow so ducks to come over.
Starting point is 00:32:58 Right. Which is the same thing he created. And so he puts that in the way. there because he's going to revisit that later on in the chapter is why i'm pointed out you also must be patient strengthen your hearts well here it is again now it says for the coming of the lord is near see i have a little letter in this translation or is that hand yeah so that presents a problem because if you start thinking if you think to end of time time you thought well what does that mean yeah So that's why we were going to discuss it.
Starting point is 00:33:34 Then it says, beloved, do not grumble against one another so that you may not be judged. Well, now look at this. See, the judge is standing at the door. Which sounds pretty imminent. Yeah. What does that mean? As an example of suffering and patience, beloved, take the prophets who spoke in the name of the Lord. Indeed, we call bless those who show endurance.
Starting point is 00:34:05 So these people that are suffering at the hands in this specific context are religious leaders who are saying they believe in God but are not living like that. You have heard of the endurance of Job and you have seen the purpose of the Lord. Just think about that. You have seen the purpose of the Lord and how the Lord is compassion. and merciful. So he's given all these qualities of the Lord. He's a judge.
Starting point is 00:34:36 He has a purpose. He shows, you know, from the example of Joe, he's compassionate, he's merciful. I read to you the one in chapter two, verse one. He hears the cries. You'll, to him. It says, the reach the ears of the Lord.
Starting point is 00:34:56 So you want to stop there and address, we were going to go because this eerily seems to be since it's a Jewish audience primarily you have this oppression you have the sermon on the Mount references
Starting point is 00:35:13 there's over two dozen here we have judgment we have coming we have near it seems to mirror the same type of language that I think they're deemed Zach would know this better than me the Olivet discourse
Starting point is 00:35:29 where he gets into the temple language. You got Mark 13. You got Mark 13. You got Matthew 24. And where is it in? Luke. Is it Luke? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:35:40 13? No, it's later than that. Look at here. Luke 21. Yeah. Matthew 24. Mark 13, Luke 21. So.
Starting point is 00:35:53 Which is controversial. Which one? Is it? It's controversy. You're always the controversy. see, what is it? Zarr? Yeah, you always know
Starting point is 00:36:04 I'm a reporter. Well, you know, the big debate is. Well, I read three texts in James, so you explain it. Well, some people think that, some people think that the Mark 13 passages is about in times. We don't hold that position, you know, and, uh, but Zay, you got to explain it better because people, no, we've, let's keep this simple. He just said in James five,
Starting point is 00:36:28 There's a coming of the Lord. Hang in there. It's near. It's at hand. The judge is standing at the door, and he's doing it in a context of relieving the injustice that's happening to these poor people at the hands of these religious leaders who are Jewish. And in all three of the cases you mentioned where Jesus talks about it, he says to the group that's there, this will happen in your generation. The pro-life movement's always been. important. We're speaking out for people that can't speak out for themselves. I mean, it's,
Starting point is 00:37:06 and it answers the life old question. Where do we all come from? And are humans sacred? Is it, is it a good thing? Is it the gift of life? Yeah. And even when we talk about Jesus, I mean, that's the way he came here as a baby. An unexpected pregnancy can leave a woman wondering, what do I do next? A pre-born network clinic's mothers are welcome with compassion. practical support, and a free ultrasound. And when they see their baby and they hear that tiny heartbeat for the very first time, more than 80% of women choose life. And that's why Lisa and I have dedicated most of our lives to go in and speaking on behalf of the unborn.
Starting point is 00:37:46 And you can help as well. Just $28 helps provide one life-saving ultrasound. $140 helps rescue five babies. If you're a business owner, would you consider a larger donation to claim a write-off? A donation of $1,000, $2,000, $10,000, even $15,000 will sponsor an ultrasound machine for a needy clinic helping to save countless babies' lives for years to come. All gifts are tax deductible and will reach eternity. So get involved today. Please give today, Dow, pound 250 and save baby.
Starting point is 00:38:20 That's pound 250 baby. Or visit preborn.com slash unashamed. That's preborn.com slash unashamed. Let's read this then. Can I read it in the exact and then you finish your thought? Yeah. So, Matthew 24, that's the one I'm the most familiar with, so that's where I want to read. Verse one, I'm reading now out of the ESV.
Starting point is 00:38:47 Jesus left the temple and was going away when his disciples came to point out to him the buildings of the temple. but he answered them you see all these do you not truly I tell you that there will not be left here one stone upon another that will not be thrown down
Starting point is 00:39:13 so he sat on the Mount of Olives which is where and why this is called the Olivet discourse the disciples came to him privately saying tell us now here's the question
Starting point is 00:39:29 Here's what Zach's deemant controversial, because it says it, tell us when will these things be and what will be the sign of your coming in the end of the age? I want to stop right here. That word end in the Greek, do you know what it is? Do you all know? No. Zach? You should know this.
Starting point is 00:39:57 I don't top of my head, I don't. you're going to be shocked. It's the same word for complete and fill, this telios. Oh, tell us, yeah. It's a version of that word. So now look, most of the times when you read that, it may be in a context of you being becoming, you know, mature or fulfilled. I mean, we can look up all the references that.
Starting point is 00:40:25 Oh, we've had many. Let me just echo that because I actually have this in my, I'm in Mark 13, same story. So in Mark 13, it says, when you hear of wars and rumors of wars do not be alarmed, this must take place. But the end is not yet. And that word end, again, is Tellos. And in Mark 13, at the end of verse 13 of 13, it says, and you'll be hated for my namesake, but the one who endures to the end will be saved. again, that's Telos, not Eschaton.
Starting point is 00:40:58 Eschaton would be the end times. This is not talking about that. This is clearly talking about what's going to happen in 40 years from Jesus' prophecy here about the actual temple, which they are actually talking about, because they said, look at the stones, look at the temple, look at the building, the whole context of Mark 13 and Matthew 24, for that matter, is they're having a conversation on the Mount of Olives about the temple. This is what the whole thing's about.
Starting point is 00:41:26 So the two questions are, one, when is that going to happen? And two, how are we going to know? What are going to be the signs? Okay, let me clarify this. So I'm based on AI, so keep in mind they could be wrong. I put key verses featuring tellios in the Olivet discourse. They put Matthew 24-6. I hadn't read that because I read that in three.
Starting point is 00:41:49 So I'm not sure about that one in three, but I know the one in six is. It says, and you will hear. Yes, as the end. is still to go. Of wars and rumors of wars, see that you are not alarmed, for this must take place, but the end is not yet. And they also have Mark 13, 7. So read verse 7 of Mark 13. He just read that one. Okay. So, and also in Luke's 21-9. Here's my point. We're not trying to say anything. We're trying to figure out what this is talking about. I don't have an agenda or a, right. And if you read the definition,
Starting point is 00:42:25 of telios meaning now this is once again the AI definition so take it for what you will it says I just read that oh meaning in goal purpose or fulfillment I mean so but it could be based on context it could be different like like when Zach said with the eschatal the word But Jesus is coming back. And the resurrection's going to happen. We get new bodies. There is a final coming. I think where it gets controversial, though, is when people, this is the word gets very controversial.
Starting point is 00:43:06 And we even had very controversial on this podcast, not to my knowledge, but I was reading through the comments we had Frank Turc on because he does not agree with us on eschatology or we don't agree with him on it. And everybody was coming. that we even had him on the podcast. I'm like, we're going to have conversations with people we disagree with. That's okay. You do that every day. I do that at my house.
Starting point is 00:43:29 That's true. Yeah, that's true. I can just listen to you. But I do think that it is, yeah, right, it's this understanding of who is Israel. People who would listen to what we're saying. So you're saying that are you talking about some kind of replacement theology where the church replaces Israel. That's not what we believe.
Starting point is 00:43:52 We believe that Christ fulfills it all, the book of Hebrews, and so now because we are living stones built upon the cornerstone of this new temple, that there's not a replacement of it. Everything is fulfilled. It's fulfillment theology. It's fulfilled in Christ.
Starting point is 00:44:11 And since we are connected to Christ, we are actually part of that fulfillment of everything that you're talking. talking about here. And when there's this concept that James brings in about the, he talked about the reins, there's these seasons of judgment that happened. And the way that, you know, that our mentor used to explain that he would say there was end, there is the end time judgment, E and D.
Starting point is 00:44:37 And then there is in time, I in time judgments. And you just mentioned them, Jason, all those Genesis passages. Most of those were judgments that happened in time. Oh, yeah. The 24-3 is Tellos, by the way, I'm looking this up. But now I want to show you, I want to make a connection here before we get deep into this. So in the context about the coming is near, he's also saying the judge is standing at the door. Well, look, in 24, Matthew 24, let me just read 15 through 22.
Starting point is 00:45:11 So when you see the abomination of desolation spoken by the prophet Daniel standing in the holy place Then let those who are in Judea fleet of the mountains Let the one who is on the house top Not go down to take what is in the house let the one who is in the field not turn back to take his cloak And alas for women who are pregnant who are nursing those are Who are in those days Pray that your flight may not be in one winter or on a Sabbath you're like what are we talking about it he's talking about there's a judgment
Starting point is 00:45:45 coming and it's going to be rough yeah it's rough for you know hopefully you're not pregnant and we know this this abomination of desolation you're like what does that mean sounds bad yeah you know when you think about desolation but verse 20 says pray that your flight may not be in winter or on a Sabbath for then there will be great tribulation well people have heard about the tribulation but when you hear that word what's the first thing you think when you hear the word tribulation thousand years well yeah you think of what zach was saying that's what he meant by the end times there's because you get in the book of revelation and you say there's tribulation but now i just read it to you and we're in matthew 24 in a conversation
Starting point is 00:46:34 where jesus and his disciples are saying jesus makes a statement i'm going to go back to chapter 24 and now Zach's giving you all the religious versions of what people believe i am not i'm saying i just want to know what he's saying yeah what what is matthew talking about and what is james talking about because they sound similar they you're fixed to see it where what i'm fixed to read it sounds eerily similar and all i'm saying is this is this is an event that happens that's recorded three times it has a category the Olivet discourse and in all three times they were looking at them buildings and Jesus is the one that started this discourse because he said in verse two that there's going to come a time when there's not one stone left on another in these
Starting point is 00:47:34 magnificent buildings they're like what tell us when and where this sounds like this sounds like I think we, I think the reason we have so much controversy and create, because we weren't standing there looking at it. This was awesome. This was that, not just their church where they went to, where you have, and you go back to the Old Testament, this is the presence of God literally meeting human beings in a, in a building. And it was their politics, it was their social life, this was everything revolved around this.
Starting point is 00:48:08 What was where they took their last stand to try to protect it and defend Jerusalem? And to have this carpenter who's able to do miracles and all this kind of stuff make this kind of prophecy, they're like, we need to know when, so he starts talking about it. Starting point is 00:48:54 don't change your morning let your morning change you discover coffee plus on espresso.com let me say a word on the desolation i mean if you read in matthew 23 at the end right before this whole conversation about the temple there's an indictment from jesus and here's the the indictment verse 37 oh jerusalem jerusalem the city that kills the prophets and stones those who are sent to it how often would i have gathered your children together as a hen gathers her broad uh under her wings and you were not willing verse 38 see your house is left to you desolate for i tell you you will not see me again until until you say blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord. And then he leaves the temple and has the conversation about the temple.
Starting point is 00:49:48 But he's telling them that this is coming to an end. And here's the thing that I would just say, like, go to your Old Testament. And I don't understand. I don't actually understand the dispensational framework. It doesn't make any sense to me. But if you go in your Old Testament, you take a black magic marker. So I'm just going to mark out. every instance in the Old Testament of sacrifice, every instance of priest, every instance of a temple,
Starting point is 00:50:18 every instance of a tabernacle. I'm just marking all of that out of the Bible. You're not going to be left with much of an Old Testament. And I think what you're seeing here when Jesus is talking about is he's saying that, look, I'm the fulfillment of all this. He told him, he said, you study the scriptures diligently, and by them you think you're saved, but you miss me. So this is the completion that Christ completes it. So when you get to the end of the Bible, you kind of see it. Like when it gives that, that is end times. Revelation 21 and 22, that's talking about the end times, the second coming of Christ. And when he comes back with, you know, with the new heavens and the new earth, you got to remember, John's,
Starting point is 00:50:58 he's looking around looking for a temple. Because that was the center of the whole thing, right? Of Judaism was the temple. He's looking around. He's so, hold on, I don't see a temple. Because the lamb himself is the temple. which is exactly what Jesus said in John 2, destroy this temple, and I'm going to rebuild it in three days. If you're going to have a biblical theology of the temple, you need to understand that Christ himself said
Starting point is 00:51:23 that he would be the new temple, the cornerstone, and then we're living songs both upon in Ephesians, too. I don't know how we get away from that. I don't know how we get away from that. So all of that discourse is actually key to understanding the temple motif. If you don't, what Jesus is doing here, he's actually locating the presence of God, not behind a curtain in the holy of holies,
Starting point is 00:51:45 the most holy place. That curtain tore when Jesus was crucified and resurrected. It was torn wide open. So now where does the presence of God, where is the holy of holies? Where is the real presence of God found? Guess what? Turns out it's found in human bodies, 1st, Corinthians 6.
Starting point is 00:52:06 Your body is a temple of. of the Holy Spirit. So this is not like, these are not issues that are kind of like, oh, these are, you know, you have your view of how of mine. There are real consequences to not understanding, I think, what Jesus is talking about in Mark 13 and Matthew 24, because it goes to the very basis of when Jesus said, it's good that I have to go because if I don't go, he's not coming. Talking about the coming of the Holy Spirit.
Starting point is 00:52:33 Like, the Christian teaching is about a triune God. father, son, and spirit. And so the reason why the Olivet discourse is so important is because it's building the framework for the new temple in which the Holy Spirit will live. And our teaching has to be spirit-filled because Jesus himself said that the spirit must come for the fullness of the gospel to actually be accomplished. And don't you think it found it interesting is that that the of all the writers of the New Testament,
Starting point is 00:53:08 only John would be the one that would live through the destruction of the temple, and then to have that revelation later. I mean, all the other writers, Peter, Paul, James, all of them didn't make it to 80s. I just found it interesting the way that Jesus worked that out. You know what's funny too? This is another thing that's funny.
Starting point is 00:53:32 Whenever the abomination of desolation happened in 8070, 40 years after Jesus said it would happen within 40 years, a generation, this generation will not cease to pass before these things come to happen. Guess what the Christians did? Left. They ran for the hills. They obeyed the words of Jesus. They actually did what he said do, and that's how they were spared.
Starting point is 00:53:57 They didn't go corral in the temple. You know, the temple got destroyed. The temple got burned to the ground. never to be rebuilt. Think about that. There's no record of the priesthood. Now, this is another thing we didn't talk about. But what about the priesthood?
Starting point is 00:54:12 Well, how do we have a sacrificial system without a priesthood? Well, you have to have a priesthood. Well, they've got to be from the tribe of Levi. If you can't produce the records, go read Nehemiah, I think, 7 or 2 and Ezra 2 or 7. I have them backwards. But they have the account after the second temple was built, everybody wanted to re-institute the priesthood. and there are some people that they could not,
Starting point is 00:54:35 they were considered unclean because they said, well, we're part of the Levite tribe and they're like, well, you can't prove your , we're your records. And because they couldn't produce the record, they could not be a priest. Well, think about this. All of those records were burned in that
Starting point is 00:54:51 invasion, in that Roman invasion. It is impossible now to have a legitimate priesthood under Judaism. Man, if there was only a new priesthood that Christ set up, man, if we only had a new and a better high priest. Man, that would be nice.
Starting point is 00:55:07 You've got the payoff on this. So look, I wanted to mention this before we in. If you read Exodus 30, and I'm going to give you an outline of it, because this is what was going on in the tabernacle, Aaron is involved, and they're going through how is this played out in the presence of God, and it's deemed the tent of meeting. Look, God meeting humans. You have the altar of incense, which is given you. you a picture of continual prayer and worship. You have the atonement money, which is given you
Starting point is 00:55:39 a picture of redemption and equality. And it talks about rich or poor and all that in there. You have this brawn basin, which is daily spiritual cleansing. Priests had to wash their hands and feet before entering God's presence. You had the sacred anointing oil and incense, which is concentration and being set apart by the Holy Spirit. And you said, why am I bringing this up? Because when you get a few verses later in James 5, he's going to bring up this being anointed with all if someone is sick. Well, you're not going to understand that unless you go back to the Jewish history and
Starting point is 00:56:21 what that means. And we're doing the same thing with a sermon on the mountain, all of it, discourse saying I think there has to be some element of this destruction of the temple that was imminent that was fixed to happen where that system was being corrupted by religious leaders because when you read what I didn't read Matthew 24 is him bringing up these false apostles coming up these antichrist coming up it's all there Matthew 24 right and he basically said but he's coming on the clouds so before you just immediately go and say well that's when he comes back at the end. He is coming back on the end and maybe he has that in the back
Starting point is 00:57:04 of his mind. I'm fine with that. But I know one thing, he said, look at them buildings and not one stone's going to be. There was judgment coming and he was saying, hang in there and it's going to be rough. I think you at least have to acknowledge that's probably what he was talking about in that moment and James is bringing that up. So. And I'll say one more thing. Say it quickly. Yeah. I think we've got to be careful building foreign policy based on a flawed view of eschatology. I'll say that.
Starting point is 00:57:39 I think that's, I think that is. That kind of rhymes. I didn't know what it meant, but it sounded great. Well, hang out to that thread because when we come back to this study, I wanted to talk about that because that's a big deal going on right now. All right, all right of time. We left off there. There's your tease. I'll put a bookmark on that.
Starting point is 00:57:56 All right, I'm going to put a bookmark. We'll see you next time. Thanks for listening to the Unashamed podcast.
