I am unashamed. What about you?
So, Dad, you got, what were you saying?
Somebody called you.
I was just saying someone called last night, one of the brothers,
sister-drunk.
He said, I just heard on Facebook that you've been imprisoned for 15 years.
Your sentence was 15 years.
I said, well, what did you do?
I said, what exactly did I do to get the prison sentence?
And it looked like to me that someone would have.
contacted me if they were going to put me in prison for 15 years. He was probably calling to see if you
answered. Yeah, he thought I was in prison. You know, people believe. He said, oh, they're saying it like,
oh, you are in prison for 15 years. I said, well, what was I charged with? Because I figured that'd be
pertinent information, maybe some kind of trial or something, or do they just imprison people for 15 years.
I said, I don't know what to tell you, says, Strunk. Of course, he laughed. He said, I don't know. I'm just
telling you what they're saying.
So I don't know whether there's a group of individuals who sit around and say,
let's just dream up a story.
I'm not,
I'm not getting it.
I don't understand it.
Rumor meal,
I guess.
I mean,
I had to get off of it just for that reason.
Well,
I never got on it because of crap like that.
Yeah.
You know.
I'll tell you this,
they,
we have been getting a ton of emails lately.
We need to start making a point to talk about this.
I know we did a podcast on it,
but you do not endorse or own any stock or equity in a CBD oil company.
So you know that story, right?
So that's another internet.
I don't even know what that is.
Oh, yeah, that's the marijuana oil.
Oh, well, Phil.
I'm supposed to be the owner of some kind of.
I know how that happens.
That's how you went to jail.
You must have done something wrong.
Well, they might have got me.
I know how that happened.
And I don't even know how it really happened.
I'm just saying they were in the part of it too.
Oh, I was?
Oh, yeah, you were a partner in it.
Dang.
And what I'm going to say is going to be embarrassing.
Because I figured they had a list of celebrities and they said,
we need somebody to endorse this, you know, accidentally.
And we'll just put it out there.
And they probably had all the pictures.
And for some reason, when they saw your picture, they thought,
no, that's marijuana right there.
Facial profiling once again.
So it talks about dad at first.
Dad's going, he's fighting big pharma,
and he's going to set the American people
are going to save all this money on this CV.
You were a man of the people in the article
because you were going to get this,
you had invented this thing,
you're going to get out there,
and then it says,
Jace comes in,
and he's a part of the thing too,
and y'all talked about it on live TV.
You know, I was reading it.
I mean, nothing in it was true,
other than the picture they had of y'all
We did do an interview with Eric Metaxos.
That was the people.
Well, why did people keep believing in that?
I don't know.
I'm just glad they left me and Zach out of the mix.
Most church services that I attend, someone comes up and says, I'm so sorry.
Or they say, I heard, and they say something that is 100% false.
How many times have you died, Dad?
This is the first time you've been in the president.
Multiple times.
But why are they believing it?
I'm like, you know me.
because I think the father of lies
have gotten the control of so many people
used to
I mean I was a kid born in 46
and through the 50s
it was a quiet
right after World War II
that ended in 45
and it was a quiet time
it was a good time
and I've just looked at
just seeing this encroachment
of lies over the last, well, since 1950,
you know, I was just a boy looking around with going out on the road,
hitchhiking, people pick us up.
How far are you all going up right through?
We're kids.
But we were hitchhiking and didn't worry about it to anything.
But I've just seen the makeover over the last 60 years.
It's a sad thing.
Well, you know, I was thinking about the father of lies,
his native language is lies.
Right.
So if you look at it,
you say, so all these lies, just one person like me, I mean, I've died, I've been in prison.
And we laugh, we laugh. We laugh about it, but you're right. I mean, the whole thing is based on falsely, which is the term that Trump brought into the vernacular of fake news.
Yeah.
Really is. There are a lot of truth of that.
It really is.
Yeah, I mentioned this in my sermon last week that I was thinking about you. So, you were, Dad, you were born eight months after VJ Day, which is basically,
was the end of World War II.
Yep.
So the country was as unified as it's ever been.
I mean, there was an enemy that had to be defeated.
A lot of people gave their lives for it to happen in more ways than one.
And then, so just in your lifetime, that's what got me.
I was thinking you were born right after that moment.
That's right.
And then, and now in your lifetime, to see where we are right now, I mean, would you have
even thought that possible?
I wouldn't have thought it possible.
To be this divided?
I've never seen lying.
on the level.
I mean, just like the marijuana oil,
I'm dying, I'm going to prison.
I mean, people have to lie to get that narrative going.
What's amazing to me is so many people,
but you think about it out,
if you didn't know any better,
and you read it on Facebook,
you would pretty well say,
well, this is, this is the gospel here.
This is true.
Which I'm just the opposite.
Like, anytime I hear something,
and I said, where'd you hear that?
And they said, well, Facebook or whatever,
then I immediately question it.
I'm like, well, it's probably not true.
People laugh at me because I've never owned a cell phone.
You say, why have you never even?
There's so much lying going on.
I just said, no, I don't want to listen to it.
I agree.
I don't like that people equate their self-worth
based on how many followers or likes that they have
or in this endless quest.
And you've created this virtual world
that you may think is real.
And people who ask me about it,
you know, I pop their bubbles
because they're like, you know,
I'm up to 1,400 followers, you know,
and I'm like, well, they may not even be real.
That may just be robots.
And they're looking at me like,
because them, they're like, I'm up to 1,400.
Yeah.
This is, I'm rolling.
Yeah.
People like me.
They don't say that.
But, you know, it's just like, like, it's not real.
then we get on our kids about it because they develop these problems of social issues
because it's all a virtual world.
But to me, the adults are just as bad.
I mean, we all have these stories.
People come over to my house.
And I've got the point now where I'm like, turn in your cell phones.
We're not going to gather up meat, beans, and rice and cornbread.
And you're just staring at your phone while we're trying to talk.
I don't get it.
So to your point, Jay, this last.
Sunday we did a baby blessing.
The first one we've been able to do in a while because of Corona,
we didn't meet for a long time.
So we hadn't done a baby blessing like a year.
And it's just a moment where our elders at our church give a Bible to a family that's had
a baby.
And basically we pray a blessing over this child.
So this last Sunday, it was Brooke.
And so it was really special because they've been waiting a year.
I mean, first her mom got sick with cancer and died, and then corona hits.
And I shared that story on a previous podcast.
Yeah, we talked about it before.
Wonderful woman.
Warrior.
Warrior for Jesus.
Absolutely.
And so Jace, it's the only funeral.
Jay's has ever done.
Yeah.
Because she asked you.
I came out of, I guess, well, I can retire from something.
I said, I'm not, I don't do funerals, and I would justify it with that verse that let the dead bear their own deal.
We're going.
But she asked me to.
before she died.
And she's...
How can you say no, right?
Well, she had every reason in the world
to quit and give up
just one negative thing after another.
But she truly was married to Jesus
and showed that in every aspect of her life.
And the outpouring was amazing.
Yeah, I think why we loved her so much
is that she did have a life of mostly trial and tribulation,
and yet she stood up, you know, stood the ground.
So my point is, I was, you know,
doing the blessing.
And so I mentioned, Kathy, you know, because you couldn't, in that moment, this is her daughter
and her grandson, we're having this blessing for.
And I mentioned about what Brooke's brother, Blake, said at her funeral, which really
touched me.
I mean, yeah, awesome.
But he talked about how the community of a church is really what held him together,
and it was his mom that made sure he got that.
And so that got him lined out for his life.
And so he's saying this at his mom's funeral, which, I mean, we're all crying and tears,
because it was so special.
Well, Brooke starts crying.
Then I felt bad because I thought, oh, boy,
we're having a babe blessing.
And here I got her crying,
which then gets me emotional.
But I told her in the moment,
as I handed her that Bible for that little boy,
that this is what you have to instill in the future generation.
Because if you leave it up to the internet,
if you leave it up to the school system,
if you leave it up to the likes and the other stuff,
they're going to be wrecked.
I mean, which is what's happened with this current crop.
The reason they're so easily swallowing the manifesto of communism and all this stuff
is because they don't know anything different.
I mean, they got it on a college campus somewhere.
It sounded like a good idea, and here we go.
So it's very important for our podcast audience to do the same thing.
And, Jace, you're right.
If everybody is in a different room in your house on a device,
one of he's on Facebook, one of he's on TikTok, one of his own whatever,
then you're not going to trust me good will not come out of that no is that true statement i think we should
have a standard and it's not anything you read on the internet unless they're quoting scripture
but this bible to me which what we get to do and gather up and what i want my family to do
there has to be some kind of standard of truth in your life that's right and if it's not written
between these two covers i'm not going to immediately
react. If someone tells me something, because now I'm with Phil, it's just such a period of
life after life for monetary gain or to get likes or to be noticed. And, I mean, what we're dealing
with is way more weighty. And that's why, you know, I try to come up with creative ways to
have my family rally together. I mean, you know, my wife and kids.
Right. Over what is truth here. And to have real conversations.
What do you think, Zat? Way, um,
what do I think about it?
Yeah.
I mean, I'm sorry.
I actually was the tune out for a second there because I was reading the text.
That's why I called you out.
I think we've got a, we've got a moment here.
I think we just preach a sermon and we need somebody to repent.
Yep.
Yeah.
Yeah.
No, no, but it does.
You get a little bit taken by the devices.
I don't think they're all wrong, but I'll tell you,
I was just looking up this scripture here, and I read this in Proverbs chapter one.
I know this doesn't mean this, but I still think that it's an interesting correlation of words.
So I've been reading through Proverbs and Psalms every day.
I'm just reading one a day, and I'm just reading the same one over and over and over again.
And in Proverbs 1, it talks about how we're not to get in with the,
the people of this world who they get in all kinds of violence and all kinds of immorality.
And at the end of it, it basically says that if you go that route, then God's like, I'm going to, like,
give you to your own self.
And he says here that they will, they shall eat of the fruit of their own way and be satiated
with their own devices.
And I got my device right here, by the way.
and I think it's interesting that we these devices that have promised us liberation they promised us freedom in the end what they've really done is they've made us captive and I think we're I think a lot of us are slaves to them I'll be the first admit I mean it's hard for me to get off of it you know well and that's true and I mean that's that's an honest result and we've talked about the positives I mean we do our podcast we do a lot of business and there's good things about it but if it controls your life
It's not good.
I have not been sucked into that vortex.
Yeah.
Well,
that's the good thing.
People say you're weird.
You don't have a cell phone.
I'm like,
no,
I'm in common sense.
Well,
to your point,
Zach,
the last verse of Proverbs 1 says,
whoever listens to me will live in safety
and be at ease without fear of harm.
I like it.
I think the picture of that.
Especially that will be at,
ease.
Yeah.
You just, you know,
they said you're serving 15 years.
I said, no, I'm talking to you in the living room of my house.
I'm sitting in my favorite chair.
I'm not in prison.
I'm sitting here and we fixed to eat soup.
You got soup.
Me, you're right.
Let's take a break.
We got Huss puppies and soup.
The peace.
I'm not in jail.
I said, why did you call me if you just heard I was in prison for 15 years?
He said, I was just checking the seat.
if it was too or not.
Yeah, if I stumbled across this,
when you look at the internet
and social media sites
and everything that's going on,
the last thing you think of is peace.
That's right.
The peace that we experience in Jesus,
it truly does surpass
even understanding.
Have you seen those videos
where someone's walking along,
looking at their phone or texting,
and they'll trip,
they'll fall into a fountain.
I saw what to do that,
fall off a sidewalk.
I mean, there's like a series of videos of people that are so engrossed in their phone and they're walking along.
They just, they literally don't realize they've just fell into a pool of water.
I heard somebody say the other day that when they look at the fossils of the people now, years later, if the country lasts that long,
they're going to say, well, something about these young people, their thumbs got so big.
Because they now, because I watch my daughter type.
Oh.
I was looking at those thumbs.
I thought, I would have to work my thumbs for a year to catch up now.
Because they can type so fat.
And their thumb, it's just, and you get a bunch of them together,
and you're like, it's almost, I have to watch it in slow motion.
Yeah, teenage girls are by far the most skilled at that.
So that's my prediction, now, the rise of the rise of.
the thumb muscle. The rise of the thumb muscle.
When your dad, when you were young, you were thumbing rides. That's what you used your thumb for, right?
Yep. I remember when the first telephone landlines came.
Did y'all just stand around and look at it and think, oh, my way.
Everybody said, boy, this is a breakthrough. I like the original thought because someone was listening to your conversation at all times.
It would be like 10 people on your party line. Right. And look. Because they didn't have enough wires.
We've come full circle because now with your kids, you have to have a way to monitor everything that's said and done.
That's right.
We thought it was just fantastic that somebody somewhere away from where you were could be talking to you without hollering.
We went from, hey, well, y'all, that's the only way you could hear somebody.
You holler off the porch.
Yeah, you get over 100 yards.
You can't hear what they say it.
But they figured out a deal where you pick it up and you're like, hello, yeah, okay.
So we were like, whoa, that is cool.
But that's about as far as it went.
I mean, I told you, when I was a kid, when Si got on the phone, we would all laugh
because he thought that however distance they were, he had to yell.
He would yell and say, hang out.
I said, why are you?
Why are you hollered?
He said, well, he's from Alabama.
Yeah.
I got a holler for him to hear me.
So the transition there for him was difficult.
Because in his mind, he thought, I probably are to speak up because he's a thousand miles away.
So he's yelling into the phone.
I simply will say this computer age, I'm just leaned back and I've escaped the largest percentage of it.
But I'm just looking at it.
And my view is beginning to be solidified that it is one of the most dangerous contraptions ever devised by human beings.
the, because if you look at it, you say the big tech,
I mean, you've got all this information flowing in every direction,
and they're controlling the content of it.
Well, you go down that road,
and I mean, your mind will be twisted and turned beyond anything you could even imagine out.
But it's not healthy for young people or old people to get into a device
and take it for what it says
because it's not
it is written in script.
It doesn't jive with it.
But it didn't interesting that it was the rise
of basically five companies,
corporations. Yeah.
Who are... A complete monopoly now.
Who are owned by a handful of billionaires.
That's right. So, and then
the young people are rushing towards
socialism. Communism is in the
offing. That's exactly
what happened in Russia. Oh, yeah.
All these, I mean, it was just
these hands.
handful of billionaires control everything.
Without that, it could not have traveled at what I call lightning speed.
They pulled this whole thing off in 50, 60 years, which was amazing.
I've lived on the earth for 74 years.
I saw the whole thing when it started, and now I'm looking at the fruition of it all on what it
ended up, and I'm looking at it.
I said, I wouldn't have believed it if I hadn't seen it.
But that's why I look.
You think about what God did through the Holy Spirit.
in getting us this book.
I mean, 66 books, letters, historical documents coming together,
that it transcends communication throughout all history and generations.
Beyond, that's right.
Because people say, well, this is old and stale.
Well, that happens in churches when you're listening to a guy pontificate on it.
But when you read for yourself, this is riveting.
Oh, no matter what.
Even in a cell phone age,
and I think you hit on something when you said about the internet being a place where lies just flourishes.
When you read Hebrews 6, it says God wanted to make the unchanging nature of his purpose very clear,
which is what he did in history with this document, series of documents coming together.
And then he says, and he confirmed it based on a promise, which is what we got into last time when talking about the book of Acts, that this spirit would be poured out and a promise was given that you can receive God's spirit.
And you say, well, how does that transcend now and make that current?
Because then it says, because God wanted to make the unchanging nature of his purpose very, very,
clear to the heirs of what was promised and he confirmed it with an oath.
God did this by two unchangeable things in which it is impossible for God to lie.
Just think about that.
I mean, you just take that one statement and think about it.
It is impossible for God to lie.
So if you're looking for some place to find security in or you can listen to or
read and say, now this is the absolute truth. If I take this to heart, there is zero chance
that this is not true or that's based on a lie. That's why, in my opinion, it transcends all
generations. Which is clear. That's why we look at things through a kingdom lens. That's why we have
God who's impossible to lie, the author of truth, all truth, absolute truth. And then you've got
the father of lies, which is where evil came from. Well, think about how you say. It's a clear
choice you have something that happened in your life you got two choices the way i'm presenting this you
can go to the internet try to get some advice which that's what people do that's what they do every every
second i don't it well okay keep talking or you said people people i'm a person i don't do okay i don't get my
advice on the internet you got me on that so or you could go here because all aspects of life
are covered. All relationships
are addressed. How do you function?
In 2nd Corinthians 5,
would you bring up the enddwelling of the spirit?
How powerful that is.
Human beings with a spirit in them,
what is mortal
may be swallowed up by life.
I'm in about verse 4 of 2nd Corinthians 5,
but watch,
it is God who made us for this very purpose
and has given us the spirit
as they deposit guaranteeing what is to come.
So it all hinged, starting from the book of Acts,
the spirit being made available from the lowliest to the highest.
Everyone can get in on this.
All the ones God have called, you, your children,
and the ones that God have called in the future.
All this came down in a series of,
events when Jesus Christ showed up and you say this is the the by far the greatest story ever
told out it is no doubt about it it would take if you went to all social media sites and tried to
find a lie how long do you think it would take before you found one yeah seconds the only caveat
I have in all this with the position I have volunteered to take is that without the device
So you said, would the Apostle Paul in the book of Acts, instead of street by street, town by town, starting in Jerusalem, Judea, Samaria, the ends of the earth?
How are we going to do this?
We've got to get out and we've got to announce it physically out of our lips with people within hearing.
Well, fast forward 2,000 years, we have a device where the people I am now talking to you to, there's a mighty,
throng of individuals with the black box.
And the only way we can get the information to them, I can't holler that loud.
There's too many of them.
They're scattered out.
I meet them all the time from all the different states.
But I'm saying the Apostle Paul said, my job is to win people by all possible means.
Well, one of the means we have is instantaneous.
I mean, we can talk to people in China in three seconds.
Because I click in, tune on, tune in.
And I'm looking at it.
I said, well, in our case, I don't have one.
I don't own one.
But I'm glad others do because of what we're doing right now.
They're listening.
Hang on, just a second.
You understand my point?
I understand your point.
I was just saying that what you should do, you could go to the device and find truth.
You could.
It wouldn't take you long to find a lie.
it probably take you longer to find some trees.
Y'all looking encyclopedias when you want to find out how fast the earth is going around the sun,
which is 66,700 miles an hour, which is moving.
And at the same time, spinning like a top every 24 hours at about 1,000 miles.
Y'all go to the Internet.
I go to the encyclopedias that they put on the Internet.
See what I'm saying?
I go with the source.
I go to the Bible, but I want to find out, I don't go to the Internet looking at a Bible.
I go here.
I see it, page.
I think it's okay.
And everything else.
You see what I'm saying?
Well, the problem is on.
I circumvent the internet.
Circumvent it.
Circumvent it.
Where did they get that information?
Encyclopedias.
Where did they get it?
Well, they did research.
So I...
But here's the problem with your logic, Dad.
So the more...
Every time you get a new set of encyclopedias...
If they start line...
Well, that's what I'm saying.
I'm going to.
They're going to because it's the very same ones
who are writing their textbook.
now. I mean, the textbooks you had in school and what I had in school and then now what's being
done is there's lies all over. No more hands on the heart. I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United
States. Oh, it's critical race theory and all this other stuff, right? Is that?
Yeah, but the internet is not evil in and of itself. It's that it's been used for,
obviously there's a lot of sin on the internet, but I'm reminded of what Paul said that where sin
increases, grace increases all the more. So I think that God has, there is, there is, there is,
a there's a lot of kingdom work going on going on on the internet right now we i mean we use it for that
for the purposes of god's glory and so it's not a rejection of the black box or of the internet it's
that we believers are going to use it for for his glory for his kingdom and yeah i got news for you
people are using this bible for evil oh i know it so yeah that's right it's the people on the
internet is what i'm saying it's the people who are studying this and in modi
matters. All I'm saying is if you tried to find a place in this book where God lied, you'll
spend the rest of your life and you're not going to find it. Well, like you said before,
dad, people in China, people in Iran, people in North Korea, Christians. I mean, that's how
they're getting sustenance and learning. It's the internet. In secret. That's exactly right.
Underneath the radar, hide no church building new. You know, it's ironic as this year started with the
coronavirus. And so when we went into full quarantine, when they shut everything down, all of a sudden,
the only way we're communicating to our church family was through the internet. I mean,
we went live stream, and that's how we talked to people. And in the moment, I thought to myself,
and looking how the years turned out, I thought, you know what, this may be a preview for even
American Christians of where we may be headed. And that was way before I knew anything about
censorship and everything has been happening. And, you know, Zach, I was, so I went to parlor,
which is kind of a Twitter alternative,
and about 20 million others went there as well.
They were just jumping off a Twitter like a ship
because they're censored and all this stuff.
And so I thought, well, this will be great.
This will be a place where you can have an open idea.
When then they just shut part of it out.
Those five companies again,
they just said, nope, we're not going to have any opposing views.
We're going to shut it down.
In order to go Marxist, you have to control the flow of information.
to the narrative.
Yeah,
I have to do it.
I'm not even sure if it's Marxism.
I think we're in something different now.
I think this is an oligarchy
that you had these three,
five companies that control everything.
And I ran this,
I ran the scenario out to the very end
of what happens.
Okay, let's develop our own platform.
Well, at that point,
then they shut you off of the app stores.
Okay, well, let's develop our own devices.
Well, then they, like,
they had this thing covered at every end.
But, but I do believe that,
that when you look at the trajectory of God's kingdom over the last 2,000 years,
I mean, there's always been a yin and a yang,
but progression has always been towards information,
particularly the information that's contained in this Bible that we're studying right here,
you cannot stop it.
So I don't know what's next.
I don't know where we're headed, I mean, but they're not going to shut it down.
Oh, not.
You still have it in book form, number one seller.
it's been that way for hundreds of years.
Yeah, but you still have the ground game.
I've been doing a ground game since I was 16,
which basically is wherever I go,
wherever I currently am.
And I got this idea came from Jesus, not me,
but he said,
whoever has ears let him hear.
So if someone was in earshot of where I'm at,
and we do events,
just like you did, you blow the duck call,
you present Jesus.
So my point is if they shut down the internet
as far as people of faith,
my life's really not going to change
because I'm sure I'll still keep doing events.
I've actually done less on the internet
in the last couple of years
and more at a Walmart store, you know, or wherever.
I mean, you can have these Jesus moments,
it's grounding. That's why to me it's the most, it's the most powerful thing on earth,
because it can't be changed. Once you release who Jesus is, well, the power is unleashed,
the promise has been given here. Once you get God's spirit, you cannot stop that.
And faith does come by hearing. And hearing is heard through the Word of God.
Well, you know what they did. That's never going to change.
You know what they did in Bible days for doing what I said this ground game?
Well, they locked them up.
That's right.
And guess what they did there?
They started prison ministries.
That's why everybody's reading this thinking, well, we need to do a prison ministry
because they did it in the Bible.
You know, you're always talking about how Hollywood movies always get their bases out of something biblical.
Think about that movie, The Book of Eli.
I love that movie, even though it's rated R.
Somebody said, I can't believe you're recommending a rated R.
our movie. I said, I'm not just
recommending it. I'm making it
mandatory.
You need to go watch that.
I'll tell you the one ace card that we have
particularly pertaining to the book of Acts
chapter two, the one ace card.
Can you imagine what would have happened
in the book of Acts chapter two
if you just remove
the role of the Holy Spirit
it never gets off the ground.
No.
Odds are insurmountable. There's no
way that the kingdom of God begins. It's over before it started. It's done. The only reason
why the book of Acts, why there was a chapter three after chapter two, was because the
ace card, the Holy Spirit. And he is still active today. And that's why we don't fear that all
this. I don't know how it's going to work out, but I do know that the Holy Spirit is the ultimate
ace card. And he is, according to what we just read the book of John, he is the ultimate
a deliverer of all truth.
Hey, let's take a break.
I wanted to say this.
Romans 8 brings that up.
I wanted to say this, you know,
a couple years ago, me and a buddy,
we started our own little,
because I saw this,
we had our own little internet service
where the idea was we're going to show us,
you know, duck hunting.
Because when I put a duck hunt
on one of the social media sites,
they would censored.
And when I shared Jesus,
they would censor that.
I still on it.
It's called Camoflix.
I think there's like 100 people
that go there.
That's fine.
But I thought to myself then,
because I was doing little videos
and putting it on there,
but all my friends
who were following me,
they weren't seeing it.
So I'm not sure how that was happening,
but I'd ask them because I'd call Jay or somebody.
I'd say, I'd just post a video.
Can you see it?
Nope.
And he said, when I go to it,
it says it's censored, you know,
sensitive.
It was a, you know,
the Declaration of Jesus, that's why I quit doing so much of that on the Internet,
because I thought, well, they shut me down on that.
Now, one, they said, well, it's violence because a duck gets shot or cleaned.
And then on the other side, so I thought, well, I won't have a duck gun on it.
I'll just share Jesus.
Nope.
Now, I don't know what the reasoning was, but they were, it was all good news.
It was, you know, Jesus loves you.
We're going to heaven.
Let's go.
Bop, censored.
So then I realized, I better stick with the original ground game.
Well, it's happened to Dad, too.
Only in the woods.
I mean, we've had that several.
That, dad, he went to direct talk to Zuckerberg, you know,
when he tried to shut down the show and cleaning a duck.
But that's the point is, these people, the evil one, this is all you.
You talk about his schemes and plots.
He's behind all this.
Oh, no doubt.
This is his way because, look, we're being effective in what we're doing, getting the truth out.
What do you think the evil one's happy about it?
Maybe he's going to do everything you can to shut us down.
That's all I'm saying to give people hope out there.
I'm not going to go to my room and stare at the ceiling and cry because they shut me down on the internet.
That's right.
Well, you know, because I still got to get, you know, new tires and I've got to go to the grocery store.
and Jesus is presented whether it's one at a time with an actual conversation.
That's what disturbs me about so many people.
They're like, what are we going to do without the Internet?
I'm like, I'm sorry you don't have your little world of followers where you can dictate the policy,
but you've still got to live life.
And Jesus is declared in that.
That's why we're here.
This is why the wheels are still spinning.
on earth as we wait for Jesus to come.
They can't stop.
It can't stop.
It's unstoppable.
They'll say, well, then we'll put you in prison.
Then you're back to the same thing that we're discussing here.
They're like, if you don't quit speaking about Jesus, we will lock you up.
That's the next step.
So back to Acts 1, because Zach brought it up, when you go back and look, there's something
that happens before we get to Acts 2 and the Holy Spirit that I thought was interesting.
I thought we should talk about the rest of the podcast today.
It's sort of the in-between Jesus leaving
and then the day of Pentecost when the Holy Spirit comes.
They come back from the mountain.
It's the 11.
And it says in verse 14, Acts 1,
they all joined together constantly in prayer,
which is interesting.
I thought about that because, you know,
Jesus told them go and wait.
I thought, what do you do when you wait?
A good thing to do is pray.
You know, you're waiting on God to move.
Along with the women and marry the mother of Jesus,
with his brothers. Later on, we found out there's 120 of them now that's basically the
what's going to be the beginning. We don't know that that's all of them. But that's all the ones
that gathered to start. I remember reading this for the first time. I was, I was really depressed.
Not many showed up. I read that. I thought, well, wait a minute now. He fed 5,000, you know,
magically, where they at? But it just shows you how, and I've said this many times, if you're going
out there trying to chase the miracles of God, and you see that in a lot of, you know,
religious people, it just doesn't mean that that's going to do something for you. It's like
there's never enough of that, because Jesus did all those miracles. He was on the earth.
And when you get to the moment where the spirit is released from heaven, the greatest moment,
I think, of church history. And there's a hundred
20 people there?
Well, he just died with parent and resurrection.
But look, it took it. It took the resurrection to even get the 120 before that.
They were sure enough.
It was scattered.
So all these people that say, you know, if I, if the Lord would just talk to me or do a
miracle, you know, then I would follow him.
Not necessarily.
It didn't work here.
That's right.
I mean, where are they at?
And here's another thing I thought was interesting because, you know, obviously all these
guys were Jews and Jesus was a Jew as well.
and Judaism was, and he is a very male-centric,
I mean, it was very dominated by males,
and of course it was also very exclusive, no Gentiles.
You don't even walk past,
you don't want a shadow to cross you.
And so it was interesting to me that Luke,
who is a Gentile, is writing this book.
And, you know, you already see at the beginning,
this idea that Christianity is inclusive.
It's not just, and it takes us to our Galatians 3 text,
you know, that we're seeing early on here,
Jesus said it's not about men and women
it's not about Jew and Greek
it's for everybody
it's not slavery free so it's right off
the bat that initial group of people
no favoritism no favoritism
but I think women would have had no standing
under Judaism but here they are
in that upper room getting ready
for the Holy Spirit to show up I love
the scene here like you're
saying men and women together but
it's you know I'm coming back to
since it was such a small number
I think it says something about people
like their lives. They think it's theirs. They don't want to be uncomfortable. You know,
when you look at all the reasons why people don't follow Jesus, I think you see that in such a
small group of people here. They don't, they're like, what? I mean, okay, this guy that claimed to be
the son of God, it's rumored that he came back from the dead. Because now they saw him,
and obviously that changed everything. But for everybody else,
on the fringes, they're not here because it said all the believers are here. And I think it says
something about the mundane. Even when I was talking about the internet and all, people like
their own little world and to get out of their comfort zone for Jesus. Even in meeting,
you know, let's get a plan. I mean, it's hard enough just to, you know, used to people were trying
to invite people to church. It's just hard enough to get them to show up. And talk about the idea of God,
much less start meeting in rooms saying hey let's change the world in jesus
let's take another break well here's what happens which i find interesting so peter
stands up among the believers and says brothers the scripture had to be fulfilled and the holy
spirit spoke long ago through the mouth of david concerning judas i thought it was really
interesting two things one is peter you know we're just removed from the whole re-endezing
statement, John 21. I mean, time-wise, that was just, you know, a few weeks ago.
Remember, Peter. He stands up as a leader. Remember, Peter is the one who was given the keys
to the king. It has to mean something. I see where you're going on this. I see where you're going. So,
so when he does this, he basically institutes replacing Judas. But I thought it was interesting
because you get a little bit of new information about Judas that you don't get in the
Gospels. This is rated R, by the way. It is. And so Luke tells what.
what happens to him in verse 18. He said, with the reward he got for his wickedness, Judas bought a
field. There he fell headlong. His body burst open and all his intestines spilled out. What a way to go.
Grusome. Everyone in Jerusalem heard about this, so they called that field in their language,
Al-Qaeda that means the field of blood. And it was a cursed place, you know, that no Jew would ever
cross over. So I thought it was interesting that Luke and Peter in this moment,
brought up Judas because I thought about thinking about from their perspective they're still
reeling them he was one of the 12 and you know they knew he kind of had a bad attitude but they had no
idea that he was going to betray a traitor a traitor so you think why does god do that it's a very
profound thought because he knew Judas was going to betray so what do you what do you think why do you
think that happened this way well one is it had to happen I mean someone had to happen I mean someone had
to do. I mean, it had been prophesied about
throughout the Old Testament. You had the prophecy.
Back to your motivation, not but 120
showed up. Think about it.
Judas was there when
the miracles were performed. Right.
He watched them. Yeah. He's sitting there
and he watched them. And he
sells out the one that
he saw performed these mighty
hacks. He missed the resurrection by two days.
Jase, you're talking about people
of getting zeroed in on their own little
life. Judas was right there
in the middle of it, and he missed
it. Exactly. I think it shows that God loves everybody. Number one, he washed Judas's feet,
even though he knew he was going to betray him. I think that's number one. Number two,
we like our own. There's always going to be a temptation. No matter what group you're with,
everybody's loving Jesus, we're singing. There's always a temptation. You don't think that the current
human race would sell someone out for money, would you, Jase? Because it was 30 pieces of silver here,
not a whole lot.
Which, by the way.
What is the internet about?
What are all the lies about?
You know what it's about?
They say things.
They come up with you being, you know, using marijuana, so people will click on that,
and they can make money from that.
They're using your notoriety and fame.
It's all about money.
Would you agree?
Well, you see it in the Old Testament, too.
I mean, you go back and read the history of the people in the Exodus.
And it was continual God delivering God performing ridiculous.
miracles dropping manna from the sky parting to red sea and i mean as soon as they were they were
delivered they what would they do complain and go back to their evil ways and in the midst of all of that
you would think i just saw loaves of bread coming from heaven by falling out of the sky and i'm how
how would i saw the red sea part how would how would somebody that saw that um not believe it but
but apparently yeah seeing miracles is not enough to save somebody i think
there has to be a working of the Holy Spirit,
and there has to be an affection that we develop for the King of Glory.
You know what I'm saying?
No doubt.
And even in the church, you see people say, look, you give me your money.
We'll do a miracle.
Even if you saw a miracle, would it change the fact that you would still have to put
your faith in the death of Jesus, his burial and resurrection?
Would a miracle do away with that?
You see my point?
I don't think it would.
I think because here's the deal.
We don't come to God to get a miracle.
We don't come to God to get anything.
We come to God because we love Him.
And that's the basis of faith is that we love God because he loved us first.
And I think that's the thing that's missing in a lot of these pursuits.
Miracles are fun, but you're right.
The love of God and this relationship, even what about when things don't go right?
I mean, this whole, what we're fixed to read,
a lot of stuff didn't go right.
So I think Peter is, to your point,
I think Peter is showing,
as a reminder for that group of people
that, look, evil was right here with us.
This is what Judas had.
And, you know, Luke gives the sort of Reader's Digest version.
When you go back and look in the Gospels,
Judas actually went back,
and he was so disgusted with himself.
He threw the 30, he didn't even keep the money.
And then he was out and hangs himself,
his guts spill out, they went and bought the land with the 30 pieces of silver.
See what I'm saying?
It was a conspiracy.
It was a conspiracy.
Here's Judas who sold Jesus out.
But when they replaced him, they said, we have to make sure that we get someone that was a witness to what Judas saw.
But Judas reneged, but it was one of the qualifications.
That's right.
And they had two men.
Because think about it, if you didn't see him being raised from the dead, you may say,
well, you know, I'm pretty sure he did from what I hear.
He also set a precedent here that no matter what happens,
no matter how bad it is, we don't cover stuff up.
The fact that this is recorded, you know, it would have been nice just to not,
okay, we had one follower that obviously.
Robe.
Yeah.
Let's just forget that happen.
Let's just go with 11.
Well, right.
I mean, but they go in graphic detail on what happens.
what happened. Here's what it is. We have the same thing
happened in churches on a daily basis. People screw up, people
mess up, evil happens over whatever. And you know what?
You deal with it. You confess it. And in some place, some
times and places, you have to have this phrase, may another
take his place of leadership. That doesn't mean
he can't repent and be saved, but just, you know, in some cases,
that doesn't mean he's going to be a leader again. And this
case you just died but i've said that many times yeah you know when a leader does something that's evil
and wicked doesn't mean he can't be you know forgiven and and be saved in the end but that doesn't
necessarily mean you keep him in his leadership post well you agree with i agree and i think just to
wrap it up i think peter shows you a couple of things one is i mean he's just removed from denying christ
three times himself so like he had some bad moments all right and he's the one now doing this and look
he quotes two different Psalms about Judas that were messianic Psalms about Judas what was going to happen
so that tells you that Peter knew the book pretty well if he's linked it back to those two
Psalms so that's what leadership is leadership is getting back up looking back at the word of God
trusting the Holy Spirit to guide you and so it's it's a beautiful picture that sets us up for the moment
when we get to for next time when we get to Acts chapter 2 I think well I got to say for we close now
then they pick two they say
Lord, you know everybody's heart.
Then that's cast lots, which sent every legalistic Christian off the rails.
If you want to have some fun, listen to what they say about this.
I mean, a card game broke out.
Oh, wait, no, it's casting lot.
This is worse than a card game.
I knew Jason would get excited about rolling some dice.
I'm not a gambler.
It's not gambling if you know you're going to win.
Zach, any last thoughts?
I'll save my thoughts on that for a private company.
We have a legalist alert.
