Happy Tuesday, Christopher Kid Reed in the house.
My main man.
Is it Tuesdays or Monday?
Monday, but they'll hear it Tuesday.
Don't fucking matter.
And my main man on the drums, Lisa Yacht.
Looking good.
Hello sir.
How are you?
Lee.
Lee's a bad motherfucker.
If he was a monster, they would call him what?
What would they call him?
Lee the Jew.
Lee the Jew.
I like that.
I thought you were gonna go with like tiny or something.
If Lee was a gangster, he'd be the Lee the Jew.
Lee the Jew.
And that's a nice compliment.
You said you always found a way to hang out
with motherfuckers that are smarter than you.
Always.
That's what people have never realized.
You don't have to be a genius.
Just get these little three guys that are smarter than you
and you can take over a fucking kingdom, you understand?
You know, my father used to tell me stuff like that.
My father's old school Jamaican.
He just turned 89.
And he would tell me like,
sometimes he would see me with my friends.
He said, I see you with your friends.
And sometimes, you know, you're the one
have it going on the most.
You know, you're the smartest.
You have it going on.
You're bringing them up.
That's a good thing.
You're bringing them up.
But who bringing you up?
Like who do you hang with?
That's smarter than you.
That's doing better than you that, you know what I'm saying?
People get to take from your ocean,
but where do you refill it at?
You know what I mean?
That's why I started hanging about,
started hanging with people like Bill Maher.
Like hanging people smarter than me.
And just different stuff, you know what I'm saying?
I think it was you.
What a depressing way to start this interview.
No, it was great.
I think it was you that introduced me to Bill Maher.
But then about three weeks later, I had an audition.
And I swear to God, I get there.
There was a bunch of Italians in the room.
Sopranos was on fire.
They couldn't control this shit.
So I get down and I see Sebastian Menescalco.
At that time, Sebastian didn't talk much.
Sebastian was very introverted, very shy.
He was more so than Chris Rock.
Like they just don't talk.
And I take Sebastian, Sebastian going there with me.
He was hanging out with the wrong element at this audition.
He wasn't gonna get dick if he went in there
with these other dudes.
And I knew it.
I was looking like big pussy.
I was on fire.
I grabbed them and we went in there and we nailed it.
There was me, Sebastian, and somebody else that we knew.
So it was like three brothers that we knew.
And they told us, don't shake Bill Maher's hand.
All that shit.
And all of a sudden, Bill Maher came over,
started talking to us, talking about some girl on the set.
He was very sweet.
He asked us if we ate.
We got $300 for that.
He didn't have to talk to us.
I thought I was gonna make like $10,000.
I went down to like I booked an ABC promo.
I'm gonna make 10 Gs and shit.
My agent's like, you made $305.
And where's mine?
I need fucking free 30 hours.
But it was a good look, right?
You got that tape exist somewhere, you know what I mean?
People that listen to us, go look for that.
Because yeah, I mean, I did a sketch back then.
Yeah, man, you know what dudes?
Like I said, dudes been, he's been a good friend to me.
And not just on the professional, but the personal.
And for years, we had the, you know,
his theme on HBO's Real Time, you know that.
And then, then, then, then, then, then, then, then, then,
then, then, then, then, then, then, then, then, then, then,
then, then, then, then, then, then, then, then, then, then.
All right, so yeah.
That's you?
I'll keep doing it if you don't stop.
Yeah, I mean, me and my two good buddies,
Buster and Giovanni, you know what?
This was the thing, you know, when, you know,
when Bill left ABC, you know, it was under,
they're gonna put politically incorrect back.
I mean, they're bringing it back.
They're looking for a host right now.
Well, they need, I mean, that'd be great if they did it,
but then they gotta give him a check.
They gotta, you know what I'm saying?
Yeah, they gotta give him a check.
But my point was he had got fired from politically incorrect.
You know, everybody thought he was, you know, he was,
you know, those were tough days, you know what I'm saying?
You know, we would talk and you know, he was, you know,
he was low, but they got back on at HBO.
They got the show, they got Real Time.
And one day I just hit him up.
I was like, hey man, you know, like,
do you got a theme song for your new show?
It's HBO, it should be like some cool shit,
you know what I'm saying?
I was like, yo, the only other one I had done
was I did it for my boy, Martin Lawrence,
for his TV show, you know,
my, my, my, because that was my boy,
you know what I mean?
That's kind of how I worked.
I was like, yo, you know, you got a song
and he had a song.
So he said, yo, man, these dudes did a song for it.
And he played it for me and it was just, and it was awful.
And I was like, man, let me and my boys get some of that.
You know what I'm saying?
Because, you know, it's HBO, man, it's cool.
You can cuss.
And the main thing was just musically, you know,
you got to get across to people
and get across to the people you work with,
say, hey, man, the music we create, the way you rock,
when you hear your theme song,
people got to know the truth is coming.
You know what I mean?
So it's thinking, that's what it is.
Like that.
And if you think about it,
he's the only comedian that has his own theme song.
Like lots of us come out to music, you know,
like George Lopez comes out to lowrider,
but that's not his song.
You know, he copped it.
When you hear that Bill Maughan theme song,
the only person you think about is him, right?
That makes sense.
Right, but anyway.
But I digress.
Back to you, my friend.
What's up, baby boy?
No, this is interesting shit.
It's a great to see.
Yeah, but we just talking like this.
I'm a big music dude, right?
That's how like, yeah, that's how like, yeah.
I'm a big music dude.
We just talked about sound like something
we should have did like 40 minutes ago now.
No, no, no.
I'm a big music dude.
But you're a shit rock.
So how you are, how, I never thought of that.
That you called him and said yours is the truth.
And I want your music to come up a little bit.
Yeah, I mean, like, you know.
That's brilliant.
I never even thought about that.
Yeah, I mean, like, I mean, you know what?
I came in this game, you know, people know us,
you know, kid, kid and play and the hair
and the dancing and the movies and all that.
But we came in the game or I came in the game
on the music tip.
And, you know, you know, we're both from New York
and, you know, it was just a, you know,
we got exposed to everything, man.
So, you know, like we were talking about it.
Like, man, you know, we grew up and we went to school
with all kinds of people.
We went to school with white people.
We knew all their music and our music.
And we got exposed to everything.
You remember AM radio back in the days?
Like, you didn't know what you could hear.
W-A-B-C.
W-A-B-C.
You had it with a button and you got $25,000.
Right, but what was the playlist?
The playlist, you could hear Billy, OJs.
Then you could hear Captain Antoneal
and then you could hear Billy Preston
and then you could hear the Miracles
and then you could hear,
oh, yes, they call it the streak.
Look at that, look at that, fastest thing on two feet.
Remember that, remember that.
We got a great big convoin, rockin' through the night.
We got a great big convoin, little, little, little sign.
I gotta get you and Dean Delray together.
I'm telling you, man.
People forget these novelty records, man.
And they would be, am I wrong?
They would be right in the mix, right after that.
And then after that, you hear like dancing,
dancing, dancing.
All right, so when you grew up,
what station did you grow up listening to?
W-A-B-C.
W-A-B-C was the, you know, that was the pop station.
And then one of the black stations, W-B-L-S, of course.
B-L-S.
I gotta take two steps to the rear and get out of here.
I'm in the wind later.
You talking about Frankie Crocker?
Those little tricks, Rock of record, Crocker.
Jesus Christ, I love W.
And then on Sunday night, there I go, there I go, there I go.
Yo, you should play that, pull that song, man.
Then on Sundays, you should go out on that song.
He's dead, so you could do that.
And then on Sunday nights was, on Sunday nights was the church.
You could be what you wanna be, do what you wanna do.
Oh, the preacher?
And have what you wanna have.
What's about Reverend Ike?
Reverend Ike, I used to get pissed on Sunday nights,
because Reverend Ike would show up on W-B-L-S.
That's right.
And then I would have to switch over to fucking,
but then I would switch over to any W
and you had the King Biscuit Flower Hour.
And he would interview people when you learned.
Right, that was cool.
You said something very interesting here in the beginning.
When I came from Cuba,
whatever my mother played at the house
is what I grew up on.
The doors, at first.
She used to rock out, huh?
She liked the doors, and she liked Spanish music.
But then I was against the Spanish music.
And when I started hanging out and learning in 48th Street,
those little reek and motherfuckers got me into salsa
and Fani All Stars and all that shit.
So now I'm eight.
Good stuff.
Listening to our Latin thing, eight.
At eight, most kids will listen to it.
I wasn't even listening to American music.
And I would listen to the radio at the house.
Then about 10 was when I got by first,
I thought long-haired people were creepy motherfuckers.
Like, fuck that long-haired shit.
I don't want those people around me.
Right, coming from the long-haired.
My long-haired went up in the air.
This is 1970.
Like, I was against long-haired.
The whole thing, when I started hearing that type of music,
that was my closet music.
Right.
Led Zeppelin was the shit I listened to alone.
I didn't want my buddies to know I listened to Led Zeppelin.
I did that, too.
We all did.
I hid that.
And I'm half-white, so you know what I'm saying?
So it's a beautiful thing that you're...
I grew up on everything.
Yeah, yeah, you know what it is?
I grew up on everything.
And growing up, I'm Jamaican and Irish.
So, you know, which means I get high and drunk, by the way.
But what it meant was, it meant for a real, you know...
Like you said, we listened to every...
And then, you know what?
Thank God, you know, we grew up where we grew up.
You know what I'm saying?
Like, New York's gonna give you a dose of everything.
You know, if you're just walking down the block,
hearing music from different cars and stuff like that.
So, we grew up on that, but there was something about...
Something about that hip-hop that we gravitated toward.
You know what I mean?
Like, we weren't like traditional singers or stuff like that.
Like, and we grew up...
We love that R&B era.
You know what I mean?
We love that Teddy Panda grass.
And we love that OJs and all that.
But something about that hip-hop, when it started popping,
it spoke to us, you know what I mean?
And me, I was like an English major.
I was like a little...
I thought I was a little writer, you know?
And I was like, yo, I feel like I can do this.
Like, I can be clever and whatever.
And I remember the first rhyme that I wrote.
First rhyme I wrote, I was 14 years old.
Freshman, I went to the Bronx High School of Science.
All right, I'm gonna break this.
Can I break it?
Can I break it down?
This is the first one.
Okay.
First rhyme I ever wrote.
Yo, it's like your first one.
It's like the first piece of pussy you ever got.
You're the most MCs.
They'll remember the first rhyme, even if it sucks.
Okay, all right, this is my first rhyme.
Yo, I was on the train coming home from school
when I seen this freak that made me drool.
Man, we used to call him freaks.
Girl was a freak.
Okay, right.
There's still freaks in the church.
Right, when it came back though,
it went away and then it came back,
you know what I'm saying?
I was on the train coming home from school
when I seen this freak that made me drool.
You see this freak had on a low-cut dress
that plainly showed the parts that was the best or so.
I got off my seat and sit down next to her
told his fine young freak she was a fine young girl.
She rewarded me with the invitation to her house
and with an exclamation I told her I'd be glad to come.
But one thing first, I got to call my mom
and tell her that I'll be home real late.
Tell her not to worry and not to wait and rock, rock, y'all.
You don't stop eating.
That was worth, you know?
How do you remember?
That's amazing.
Let me ask you this, bro.
First rhyme.
You're 14.
Who's rapping already?
Who's rapping when you're 14?
It's 1977 maybe.
It's 78?
78, who's rapping?
People in my neighborhood because Rappers Delight.
I think I came out in 79.
79, 80?
Yeah, it was, I mean, yeah.
You know Rappers Delight was the first like quote unquote,
rap record, but we was already rapping.
I was rapping 78, 78, 79.
It was, we were getting it on literally on cassette tapes.
Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five.
Breakout and the Funky Four.
Grandmaster Kaz and the Fearless.
All these, it was just crews,
but the first one that bust was with that hip,
but as New Yorkers, we was like,
but it was all we had.
You know what I mean?
So yeah, we was into it.
It was real tribal and neighborhood-al.
You know what I mean?
Like you was a local legend,
but outside of, you know, like coming up in Queens,
you know what I mean?
I was born in the Bronx,
but me and Play grew up in Queens together.
Yo, we was just trying to be a legend in our neighborhood.
You know what I'm saying?
And that's what we did.
And Play and I were like in different groups.
Like he was in one group and I was in another group.
We were like rivals at first.
So, you know, we would try to,
we were all friends,
but we were all, you know, we were trying,
you know how it is, like you try to bust your boys out.
You know, he even has comics, you know what I'm saying?
Like, yo, I'm gonna, you know what I mean?
There you are, it's my boy, but you know what I mean?
When you were running in Queens,
did you ever bump into the DMC in the early, early days?
No, no.
And they were confused.
No, no, no, because they were ahead of us.
Like they were like, I mean, those guys are legends.
Those are guys who are Queens legends.
Like if we ever caught sight of-
But they busted out like in 82, 83.
Yeah, yeah.
So by the time, yeah, so by the time, by the time, you know,
yeah, I'm just graduating high school then.
Like I remember, God, I remember me and,
I remember playing, I going up to the fever.
You remember the fever uptown, disco fever, right?
Sal Abatello and the disco fever, you know,
that's where they base crush groove out of.
And all it was the famous club in the Bronx, right?
So we like, yo man, we got, you know,
we just took the train up there, man.
And, you know, we just trying to be around it.
We hadn't blown up or anything.
We were nobody, but we just had to be around that.
Man, we seen, we saw a run up in that motherfucker.
Like, I mean, Run was a legend, man.
Those guys are the guys that we idolized,
that we were trying to be like Run DMC, Houdini,
you know, Curtis Blow, you know, the fat boys,
all them guys was ahead of us, man.
And they were doing different shit.
Like fat boys was, you know, blending into the movies.
You know, crush groove, you know, Curtis Blow,
you know, Run DMC, I mean, come on, man,
who was bigger than Run DMC, you know, in 80, in 85?
You know, Cool J.
Cool J was blowing up then.
And these, all these guys,
a lot of these guys were from Queens, man.
The sad thing is that I remember talking to you now.
I'm a little fucked up because-
You are, cause you, you didn't, you didn't,
you got the, you had the edibles.
No, no, no, no, no, but I remember going-
It's incredible.
So I remember going to those different, like listen,
I copped on Jerome Avenue on Wednesdays.
It was free joint day.
On Thursday, you go to Queens
because the guy had the Buddha tie.
Yeah.
On Tuesday, you went to the Bronx
and you got a slice of pizza at that place.
Right.
Cause that guy was there selling weed.
On Monday, you went to 178th Street.
And on Saturday and Sunday, you went to 135th Street.
So I would go to all these different barrels.
And when you're walking in these barrels,
you would hear, like you said, your sensory.
You would hear all of these fucking sounds.
And I'm sure I remember hearing like early rapping going,
what the fuck is this?
Sure.
Where's that gunfire when you need him?
You know what I'm saying?
Oh yeah, but see-
That's what my mentality was.
Sure.
And then it caught on, like 84 was on.
Yeah, we had, we had, we know, you know,
it's like, like my kids today, like,
and, and you know, people, the millennials,
they don't know a life where hip hop didn't exist.
We do.
We do.
We had one foot in the old world
and then came into the new world.
You know what I mean?
We remember when they, when they wasn't.
You know what I mean?
And so it's, it was a unique, I mean, I appreciate it now,
but you're right.
There was, there was a time when, yo man,
just give me some fucking earth when the fire,
give me the whispers, give me the OJs,
give me the Tavares, you know what I'm saying?
Who done it?
Who stole my lady?
Who done it?
Everyone in the room looks shady.
You're right, you're right.
Who done it?
That, that we-
Who stole my love from me?
We don't remember.
Hey, but Red, I want you Christ, go get her.
Where's Dean Delray when you need him?
Let me ask you something.
Like, I don't remember, you're right.
Millennials don't know a life without rap.
You're absolutely right.
I don't know, nobody, I mean, I mean, God,
I could tell you a million times I rode in a kid with my car,
excuse me, rode with my kids in the car
and you know, something come on the radio
and they, you know, they jibbing and jabbing,
but that's something, you know, something from our era.
And I'm like, man, that ain't, that ain't such a sus.
I'm like, shut up, daddy.
I'm like, you know what?
You know what I mean?
Like, I don't know.
Like, you know, every era thinks they invented fucking everything.
You know what I'm saying?
Which is cool, I get it.
But, you know, I'm glad, you know, I'm glad that I'm glad
I grew up when I grew up.
Like I said, one foot in, one foot out.
And then as we grew, you know, as a rap group,
I felt like we were lucky.
We were part of what I think is one of the greatest errors
of rap.
I'm talking about that 88 to 92 era of hip hop.
Man, that was a cold era.
Yeah, some awesome groups, awesome artists
that a lot of them still doing that stuff to this day.
And if they're not, the music holds up.
You look at people, you look at the groups from that era,
man, it holds up.
And that, you know, and that, you know, that's what's cool.
I mean, you know, we're still out here, man.
You know what I'm saying?
We're still out here jumping around.
I'm blown away by how it took a while to catch on.
But by 88, 89, it was like once Run DMC met Arrows, man.
It took off like a fucking wildfire.
Yeah, you're talking about, yeah, but isn't that, isn't that?
But I guess you can probably go back to all, like,
a lot of different music forms and be like, you know what I mean?
Like there was a time, you know,
when didn't the Beatles on Ed Sullivan set it off?
Like there's always that, you know, something set it off.
Yeah, I was gonna.
You know, like Elvis Presley on Ed Sullivan set it off.
Like, you know what I'm saying?
Like, you know, and there was these,
probably those hip hop moments as well, right?
I would imagine.
You guys must have lived through it,
and especially you, Chris,
what do you think like starts an era and then ends it?
Like to talk about 88 to 92, that's only four years.
That's not that long.
Well, this is what I'll say.
I'll say, well, the reason why I kind of use
that those parameters is 88 was like, if you go back,
it was like a huge year.
Like if you look at the groups that released records that year,
you're talking about some of the seminal hip hop artists.
Break it down.
And the groups that who released that was that year,
like that.
Oh my God, you talking about everybody from us,
from Kid and Play, from NWA, MC Hammer,
and it's what I'm saying.
And my point is, it started as Jeff and the Fresh Prince.
So it started reaching.
Those freaks in Florida came out in 88.
Yeah, I'm telling you, all that stuff was coming out.
So we reaching everybody.
You know what I mean?
We reaching everybody.
And the only reason why I clip it there,
Oh my God.
is that after that, it was, that was the gangsta rap era.
Right.
Which was very important.
And which is, you know, those are my boys too.
Gangsta rap started in 93, 94.
Yeah, I mean, that's when it started dominating.
You know what I'm saying?
Like this one is, that started dominating.
If you talking about 88 to 92,
you talking about crossover artists like Mike ourselves,
Kid and Play, Jazzy Jeff, and MC Hammer,
and Vanilla Ice, and da-da-da-da-da-da,
Salt and Pepper, and you know what I mean?
And which is important.
And then you get, we got every winner, we good.
And then those are, those are edible.
Hold on.
You know, I'm gonna look at it.
I can't eat it.
Man, that thing's probably good.
Smell it.
Oh my God.
How much per?
125.
In each one?
Yeah.
Oh my God.
Just take a little bite of the tail.
Just a little piece of the tail.
Don't do nothing to nobody.
That's it, that's it.
You're gonna sleep like a baby.
You're gonna go jolly.
I'm gonna sleep, I'm gonna sleep on the mic.
I'm so happy.
But I'm saying, you know, it's just like different eras.
But to me, that 88 to 92 was so strong
so that, so that gangsta rap could flourish.
No, that's, and that's what we was at as a country too.
You know what I mean?
The thing about hip hop that's so beautiful
is about rap music is so beautiful.
It reflects exactly what's going on
at the motherfucking time, whatever it is.
You know what I'm saying?
88 to 92, everything and people getting to know each other
and he ain't gonna hurt nobody
and parents still don't understand.
And then, and then you know, 92, 93, it's like, hey man,
you know, shit's fucked up, man.
And we got riots and, you know, like, you know,
people of color are still getting shot.
Chronic.
The original chronic was 92.
I don't know if this was an official list or not,
but it's, I just typed in rap albums
or hip hop albums in 1988.
First one is Public Enemy.
It takes an Asian of millions.
Oh, Jesus Christ.
Then NWA, Straight Outta Compton.
Then Slick Rick, The Great Adventures of Slick Rick.
Boogie Down Productions, By All Means Necessary.
I don't know if any of these are classic.
They're all, they're all classic.
Everyone said like, keep going.
You're supposed to get to kid and play too high.
We released that in 1988 too.
That was the next one.
And then.
Was it?
No, I'm sure if I'm here, I'm only in five.
Keep going, who else you got?
Ultramagnetic MC's Critical Beat Down.
Critical Beat Down.
EPMD Strictly Business.
C'mon now.
Big Daddy Kane, Long Live the Kane.
C'mon.
Easy, easy does it.
C'mon.
Bismarcky going off.
Pickin' boogers, c'mon.
Eric B and Raqqeim follow the leader.
C'mon.
Are you kidding, am I wrong?
No.
I was doin' time dawg.
Let's top 10.
Listen, I was doin' time in 1988,
so I don't know nothin' about fuckin'.
Let me tell you something.
I was doin' straight up time,
and I was listenin' to the brothers inside in those days.
What are they, what are they doin'?
At that time?
Were they beatboxin'?
What were they doin'?
They were listenin' to the hot album was Bobby Brown.
Don't be cruel.
Had just come out,
and I still remember goin' into the laundry room,
and they were playing dominoes, and they were cookin'.
And when that song came on.
What are they cookin'?
What were they cookin', brothers?
Nachos.
Yeah.
There was one brother, Etchi.
He worked in the kitchen with me.
Yeah.
And he could hook up some nachos.
We would go at lunch,
so we had a 20 minute furlough every day.
Pretty much to walk to the store,
get your shit and walk back.
Right.
So we'd get bags of nachos,
and we'd buy cheese,
and then you'd take the thing out of the iron,
and you'd melt the cheese.
Right.
He would cut jalapenos, Etchi.
Onions, black olives.
Etchi was the real deal.
And then he'd buy shredded mozzarella,
and they'd go down to the HIV unit,
and melt it in the muck and microwave,
and he'd sell them for two bucks.
I don't think you can call it Muzarev,
if you're making nachos.
He would dope them up.
Etchi was a bad motherfucker, little skinny dude.
Then he had a partner that was from Buffalo.
I forget, T, big T, six foot six,
you know, 320, Captain Diabetic.
Right.
Don't think about it.
Didn't give a fuck.
Don't even think about it.
He tried to cook ribs in there and shit,
like he was trying to do revolutionary shit in prison,
but he could never,
because you need too much heat and too much.
That had too much attention.
What did he get ready for?
They would make ham sandwiches.
Yeah, but what, but I mean, to at least,
I mean, it was just...
Everybody was just...
You can only look at it that time.
Oh, your boy was dropping knowledge.
That's who everybody was listening to in prison.
Chuck D.
No, the guy up here from San Oakland,
there was a girl, her name was Rita.
Oh, you talking about Too Short?
Too Short, we were really dropping knowledge.
Too Short, baby, all in them guts.
Oh, they were just, my brothers would go crazy with Too Short.
Wait, I think life is...
Wait, can you just go, what you went to top 10?
That might even just be someone's own thing.
I could try to find Billboard or something.
Yeah, just do really,
because Life is Too Short came out in 88 as well.
Like, that's what a year was.
Like, that was a great top 10, don't get me wrong,
but that's when Short came out.
I mean, it was a time, dude.
You just educated me tonight, bro,
because I didn't think about it like that.
No, also, 88 was, 87 was,
the other album in prison that was huge,
there were two albums.
There was a Black Album and a White Album.
The Black Album was Dopey Crew,
and the White Album was, no,
the White Album was,
Welcome to the Jungle.
Oh, you talking about Guns N' Roses?
All you heard in prison was Guns N' Roses,
or For the Love of a Girl named Francis?
What's the name again?
Who sang that?
I just had it the other day for Lee.
Who played for, For the Love of a Girl named Francis?
When that came on,
Black people would lose their minds in prison.
Club Nouveau.
Oh my God.
Club Nouveau?
Yo, I do shows with that guy.
That's J. King.
Are you serious?
Yeah, yeah.
Why you treat me so bad?
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, no, tremendous shit.
We opened up for that the other night with that.
But it was not, let me ask you a question.
There's two rumors on YouTube.
There's Club Nouveau rumors
and the Timex Social Club rumors.
Yeah.
The original was, excuse me, Timex Social Club,
but it's the same producer, same guy, J. King.
Now, they made a went back,
he went back as Club Nouveau
and did a rumors joint.
Cause sometimes what happens is
artists re-record their own stuff
to try to get back control of it.
You know what I mean?
There's like weird legal stuff that goes along with it.
So sometimes if you re-record your own stuff,
there's stuff you can do with it.
You know what I mean?
But Timex Social Club was original, was original rumors,
but it was the same, same lead guy
that went on to create Club Nouveau
that did lean on me and all this and that.
So it's the same entity, same entity.
All right, so you released your first album, 88, my brother?
88.
No cassettes before that,
selling them a lot of chunk of copies.
No, we wasn't like that.
No, we wasn't, no, we wasn't, no, you know,
no, we were, you know what, we were lucky.
We got, we had got hooked up with,
there was a guy from our neighborhood
that was a established producer,
Herbie Lovebug,
that had already created the group Saw and Pepper.
So he brought us behind Saw and Pepper.
We used to dance behind them
and we used to be in their videos and stuff.
And, you know, he got us, he got us our record deal.
And so, you know, we tried to come up with a catchy name.
Like, originally our names was Kid Cool Out and Playboy,
but we shortened that to Kid and Play.
You know what I mean?
As, you know, kind of in the vein of Saw and Pepper.
So, you know, we got, you know, you got to be talented,
but you got to be lucky.
And I think we were both, you know?
Let me ask you something, off the fucking record here.
Everybody, everybody, everybody in their life
has different crushes.
You live your life and you go, if I could have had that.
Right.
The big chick from Saw and Pepper,
I would translate to Muslim.
You took him out, you took him out, Saw?
The big one.
The big one.
Right, it used to be big.
She's slender.
Yeah, she used to be a thick Jamaican.
She drove me crazy for years.
That big, thick black chick.
Well, you know what?
I tell you what, I tell you what.
You would, well, you know what?
We're actually getting ready to do a television project
with Saw and Pepper, like, in the next three weeks.
Well, they have like the hip hop kids and she's on it.
Yeah, she's on it.
She's the mother of one of the girls.
Exactly.
Right.
She was married to Tretch.
She was.
Well, I don't know if she was ever married to Tretch.
She had a baby with Tretch.
But yeah, she's going to be out here in a few weeks.
So I would love to introduce you.
First of all, that's Sandy.
That's Pat.
She, that's my, that's my home girl.
When we all hang out and we're on tour together,
you know, me and her kick it, you know what I mean?
That's my drinking partner.
That's, you know, that's, that's my fun.
Now the DJ died.
No, no, no, no.
No, we still got the DJ.
That's DJ Spinderella.
Spinderella, she's beautiful too.
And the little one's got a voice that's gold.
Yeah.
The little one, you could feel her warmth on the microphone
when she sings, what a man.
Yeah.
Drives me crazy.
She drives me crazy.
I'm saying, so you got to come out.
We got, we got, we got shows out here.
We're going to do this, this new VH1 show with them.
So, you know, come on, come out and meet them.
You know what I'm saying?
They would love, they, they, you know what I'm saying?
They already know.
They can't control myself around the sisters.
They trust me.
They'll control you.
They know what's up.
The original Cuban comes out.
No, no, no, no, no doubt.
But like I said, Sandy's Jamaican.
So she knows, she knows what's up.
She's Jamaican like, like my family.
So yeah, but it, the cool thing is like now, you know,
we've been on this, I love the nineties tour,
like the last year and a half.
And a lot of these dates are with salt and pepper,
vanilla ice, raw base.
How big are these?
Tone low.
Oh my God.
Yeah.
I mean, well, we sold out Microsoft last season
with Microsoft, like 7,000, 8,000, whatever.
I'm sure it's all people my age and a little bit older,
like early, like late 20s, 30s, 40s, 50s, man.
You know what I'm saying?
8,000 in Austin, 14,000 in Phoenix.
You know, we're going all over the place, man.
Missoula, Montana, South Dakota, man, we just came from,
we just came from Worcester, Mass and Bangor, Maine.
And that was with Kid and Play, Naughty by Nature,
Montell, Jordan, Cisco, Cisco was on that show.
Biz Marquis, I think Tone Locke was on that show.
So yeah, I mean, you know, first of all,
the 90s is hot right now for whatever reason.
And not just with people.
I mean, like young people are into the 90s
because they can click back and look, you know what I mean?
My kids are just like, they're fascinated with that era.
And my son wants all my clothes from the 90s.
And you know what I'm saying?
Something about it.
So I mean, you know, we kind of have to rock it.
I mean, and pretty much the industry is like,
you know, who's ever alive, you know, we'll pay you to tour.
So.
I mean, they just, I just on the way here,
I switched between the 80s on, you know,
I have Sirius in the car.
So you have the 80s, 90s, 3 young 54 radio.
Yeah, shade 45.
Lithium.
Right.
And I listened to.
Backspin.
With the other one, Ozzie's Boneyard.
Ozzie Boneyard.
And I just go from, from, from, I got five stations.
The 90s covers everything.
The 90s gives me a.
What kind of stuff?
SWV.
Yeah.
I get those.
My, those are my other sisters in the 80s.
Today I heard a, let me be the one expose out of Miami.
You know, you hear all this shit.
And that's good stuff.
Oh my God.
And tonight.
We do those shows too.
Those freestyle shows.
Like that South from the fever does freestyle shows.
So we'll be on a bill,
kid and player being on a bill with like Judy Torres,
expose, Stevie B, TKA, come baby, come baby, baby, come.
No, that's, you know, that's, that's huge.
It's just, it's just fun music, man.
This is like, you know, nobody was tripping.
We just trying to get bitches.
That was way before colors came.
No, no, colors came out in 88.
That's right.
Yeah.
Colors came out in 88.
That's right.
That's right.
It's funny how I heard tonight that Saxon and UFO.
And UFO went on a sample tour and they did so well.
Even without the guitar player, Michael Shankler,
that they had to reschedule a bunch of fucking shows again.
And that shows me there's a vacuum in music.
There's a big fucking vacuum in music
because if all these bands are getting together,
I mean, the, the, the fucking next tour,
summer thing went down the tubes.
Led Zeppelin's not getting back.
No, that was the rumor.
Right through the millions.
They went back.
But how much money they must got?
They must have got so much motherfucking money.
You know what I'm saying?
They even said ISIS would give them half their weapons.
I know.
Led Zeppelin, Led Zeppelin said,
we ain't getting back together, Doug.
This is, you ain't got enough money.
You can't resurrect the devil.
Robber plans to hold.
Yeah, Robber plans, like I got John Bonham,
don't give a fuck.
Several castles, you know?
Yeah, you know.
Several castles.
These motherfuckers wouldn't even break down.
Like I was talking to a friend of mine the other day.
He said, he called me and said,
how come this music ain't on iTunes?
I go, what are you looking for?
Cause I'm looking for Def Leppin.
I can't find Def Leppin.
I go, bro, I think Led Zeppelin just went on a year ago.
Like they were.
Dude, they got so much money.
They shut it down.
And they're just like, if you want to,
if you want to, if you want us on iTunes,
you want us on Apple music, you want us on title,
like you got to, you got to pay, man.
Like, you know what I mean?
And, and, and, I mean they, and they already,
you know, they got castles, man.
They got castles.
And, and look, I used to hear there was a guy,
um, there was one dude on, in the doors
that would, would fuck shit up because he, he would,
you know, when they, when, when Cadillac and all these things
want to come and license their shit for commercials and shit.
You know, it was a dude there who had enough money
and he was just like, no, he said,
Jim wouldn't want us to do this.
And he was fucking shut the shit down.
And so when you can't get the doors, what do you do?
You go get a little, little at Zeppelin.
Lollie, lonely, lonely, lonely.
They just, right.
So they don't got a tour.
They don't got a tour.
How much do you think they got for that?
They got millions for that.
So he's just like, man, you know what I mean?
Like when you get, but that's, to me, I mean,
but that's why I love, that's the power of music.
You know what I mean?
And, and not just them.
I mean, obviously those, those bands are, are amazing
and incredible and have been for a long time.
But man, you know, listen, you know, watch TV,
you know, go online.
I mean, you know, they they link in music and in particularly in terms of hip-hop
I mean they throwing that music up there all the time man. I mean, I've got you know, you know, I'm you know
My music has been part of you know advertising campaigns, man
It's it's yeah, it's cool. It's cool to get paid 25 years or 20 years after you wrote some shit
That's cool
But you know it almost fits though that cycle, you know these you know these
Advertising executives are like Lee's age, you know, I mean and that's the shit they grew up on and they're just like
Hey, when when they're thinking of these advertising campaigns and these things are like a man
These are the thongs songs they think of the songs that they grew up with wrong
No, absolutely
And that's and that's what we wanted like we were talking about how like they don't really party like people they would go and
Spend and I spent a night and get by tickets to a concert
I like how big are these festivals now Bonnaroo and all these music festivals are huge
I just Jamie was just at rock on the range and I think Metallica closed it out or was one of the main
Garden was supposed to be there Friday, bro
These I these I love the 90s dates dude. They come in dressed
With 90s gear and the hammer pants and the thing and the dookie rope chains and
It's a thing man. Like they they got you know, I mean all the girls from the office came
Bitch remember remember remember 92. We was this shit bitch. Let's go
five six bitches
You know, I'm saying like it's a thing
I'm around tour with you guys. No, he's not he's not but he should I mean, I heard he's doing his thing
I mean, he but he totally fits in that
In that realm. I mean we did God back in the days. We did so many shows with him
Puts on a great show. He's you know, he was always a you know, I mean his shit was like wrangling brothers
There's always the people moving
You know that like it was dope it was dope
So it's great to have a lot of people moving up on stage, but when you see the bill at the end of the week
Like God, yeah, that's why me and me and me and play was like man
We're gonna we're gonna do we're gonna do this ourselves. We're gonna be I'll keep it tight
We do me and play we'd like the Simon and Garfunkel a rap, but you know what bro?
This idea whoever put this thing 90s together was very smart how he did it
You guys started in small venues you built momentum listen to summer
There's tons of work for everybody. I watched that show on the 70s on CNN
They had a show about music in the 70s. Yeah, it's still on YouTube and shit in
1973 they did two
Billion dollars or two million. I think it was two billion dollars worth of ticket sales in this country
but in 1973
Everybody was on the road
From mountain John. Oh, yeah, that's what you got your money. I mean, but it's always it's always been that way
It's always been that way like that's that's how you get because you know
You got to wait around to get your money from the record company and they're gonna and they're gonna and they're gonna fight you on it
And they're gonna battle you on it and they're gonna charge you back for a gang of shit
Where you gonna get your money money that you're gonna live and survive on?
Motherfucking road man. You gotta get on the road and so yeah, I mean it was that way back then and
You know, it's that way now and to the point where you know, I'm sure you and your audience knows this that that
You know, these record companies now they do those 360 deals now because record sales are so down that you know
If a record company feels like they put you out that well, we don't make a record sales
You know the way we used to we give the music away. So I want some of your touring money. I want some of your merchandising money
I want bum bum. That's why that's a 360 deal. Like I want some of where like what do you say like Frank white?
Like anybody I want I want a piece, right?
That's how they do it. That's how the shit works today back in the days
We ain't do it like that the record company was the record company our touring money
That was our money and then we'll come back and fight you for that, you know later on
But you know, let me ask you this my brother. So you released your first down in 88. When did the movie start knocking?
Like that following year whose idea was house party with us. You're right. No, no not at all
um, the the the writer a
Director of house party was a cat named Reginald huddlin Reggie huddlin
His brother warrants in huddlin was a producer and I used to see Reggie Reggie was a video director in
The in the late 80s and I used to see him out at the clubs man
He'd be like, hey, what's up? I said, what's up, dude?
Well, whatever and he was stepped to me because he wanted to she wanted to shoot some of our early music videos because we
You know, we were doing like, you know, kind of quirky kind of cool-looking shit or whatever
But we had a guy, you know, we had this white dude we used to use
So, you know, we would like I was like, I mean like no disrespect, you know, but you know, we cool
We cool, you know, we got a guy that we kind of vibing with, you know, whatever
He's like, I bet bet bet and then one time he stepped to me says y'all man. I got a movie script man
I wrote a movie. I think y'all you and play would be great for it and blah blah blah. I was like, all right
You know fast forward I get the script, you know back in those days. It was my job to read shit
You know, I mean like play play and her you know her be our producer manager like they never went to college
And I mean not like that, but you know I'm saying I was considered the Brainiac does it was like
You know, but like kid read it, you know and tell us what you know what it is, you know
I'm saying you know, I'm saying every you know every crew every crew of they could got a superpower like this
Is my fucking he reads this motherfucker kills. This motherfucker steals
You know
So we think so my job was to read sorry
so I read the script and honestly I was like it wasn't
Superpower of reading
So I read it and I and I was like it wasn't all the way there
But I was like I said it's I said it's close enough
That we can bring it like it was a little corny, but I was like I said we'll bring it there
Like I thought maybe out of a hundred percent. I thought it was like 70% and I said I said we can get it to 90
And if we get it to 90, then you know, we're we'll be all right
So I told him I said I said they say why so a what happened that thing you read
I said I think we should do it
So they gave us like a little um
I don't know like a little screen test or whatever me and play whatever see if we had like chemistry and shit
So we you know, we're in this little small office, you know new line cinema wasn't wasn't shit back then
They was like one little goofy office on 14th Street like down the block from Nells, you know, like 14th and 8th
You know me they wasn't they wasn't shit. They all they had out at that time was Freddy Kruger
They have one Freddy Kruger movie out and so they were starting to bubble a little bit. So they thinking in on that
Anyway, no story short. They want to do it
But we still never believed it until we like landed in
Los Angeles, you know me before they would like yeah, whatever they could do a fucking movie get out of here, right?
Who was in the first movie? Who was in the first house party? You got kid in play. You got teacher Campbell
You got AJ Johnson. You got Martin Lawrence. You got full force. You got Robin Harris. You got John Witherspoon
You know, I mean, where's AJ Johnson AJ Johnson, you know what AJ Johnson is doing?
Well, there's two AJ Johnson a little one, right? You talking about the guy. Yeah, there was this two AJ Johnson's
There's a female AJ real pretty girl. And that's right. The dog that brown skin. Where is she? Oh, she's out here
You know what she did she got into the fitness and wellness
She was she is beautiful
Johnson, bro, I see you should do the main room coming once in a while
That's all one time. I fell in love with AJ Johnson. That's 98 97. No, no, no, bro
She's she's that member. She was in baby boy. She was in some baby. She wasn't something that's a few things
But but she kind of she she got off the thing like those but into this whole kind of you know, wellness thing
She's been on a lot of these reality shows like where she was she had to get Lindsay Lohan
She was like her life coach, you know, she's into that life coaching thing
She's dope with that, you know, you know, Tisha, you know, Tisha Campbell. Come on. She's got everything my wife and kids
Martin blah blah blah
Yeah, Mandy, I mean Robin motherfucking Harris, right one of my mentors loved them with all my heart never got to meet him
Well, I tell you can I tell you can I tell you okay? I tell you Robin Harris hit me. I'm gonna tell you about him
So, all right, let me stick this thing
So, you know, we do, you know, we um, you know the first house party, you know, I'm saying, you know, he plays my father
So, you know, we you know, we you know how it goes on movie set, you know, you spend a lot of time with each other
We you know, mostly not doing
Filming or whatever, you know, so he's just talking so he wanted to tell me a story one time
So he said man, let me tell you this story man
I was trying to he said I'm trying to talk to this girl man. She won't invite me over to her house
For dinner, you know to meet her parents
So, you know, he said I'm all nervous and shit. So, you know, I go over there and you know, I'm gonna impress a parent
So, you know, I'm on my best behavior, you know, I'm gonna do the right thing or whatever like that
And everything's going well. You had a nice dinner and then then then then then then the mother came out brought out some dessert
They had some pie and then you had you know, it had some pie and then it was it got to the point was there was a last piece of pie and
Last piece of pie so the father told Robin. He said man go man Robin gonna get that
Get that last slice of pie and Robin said he said no, no, no, sir. I'm fine. I had enough man. Thank you
Thank you so much money. He said man Robin get that piece of pie man. Will you get that piece of pie mama done cook the pie
You hear you with my daughter here. We had a great dinner man had that piece of pie because no sir
I'm
Boy, will you eat that piece of pie go on eat that piece of pie. All right
It's delicious pie. You know has a pie have some more past the power that last piece of pie and finally Robin was like, okay
All right, sir. Thank you. All right. All right. I'll have that last piece of pie
So he eat the last piece of pie
then down on the line down the line
They washing the dishes mother mother father in the kitchen washing the dishes and Robin got to go to the bathroom
But you got to go to bathroom. You got to go past the kitchen to go to the bathroom
So as Robin going to the bathroom goes past the kitchen
But the parents are and then he hears the father say can you believe that nigga ate the last piece of pie shit?
Robin Harris man
Was so good. Can you believe that nigga ate the last piece of pie the last
Three or four times to the right thing has been on you fucking beg me
I stayed up and watched it because of Robin Harris that little scene under the fucking umbrella
When he's with the other two black dudes
Yeah, kill me kills me with the jamaican dude killing goofing on him and he's sweet dick willy and all that shit
Can you believe it? All right. So let me tell you he and guess what just kicking it with him as a person
He's as cool as you thought he was like he used to you know, I mean
He's so he was so dope like
You know
On that movie house party like
It was so like rugged, right? Like we would literally get like paychecks, you know, like every other week like you get a paycheck
So
I would get I got a paycheck and he got a paycheck and he said
He wanted to um take me
To cash our paychecks
But he took he wanted to take me to the bank where he used to be a security guard
Okay
To show him like hey motherfucker
So yeah, I'm coming in there with kids. You're a kenzie buff. Yeah, kenzie's check. You know what I'm saying?
He used to drive a 5.0
And he had a pistol under the seat all at all times
And he would talk shit to the cops the cops, you know, I mean at the light company. He's like, ah, shut up
You know, I'm like he talked shit to him and he was older than us like he had like
You know, he probably had like 10 15 years on on most of us talking about me play martin
Tommy Davidson, Tommy four joe tory ricky harris, all you know, all these guys we was in that same thing
So we all looked up to him
And I tell you one time we used to play basketball together too one time we were playing ball
Somewhere in burbank and you know, we got into with some you know some other crew
man, you know
Some white dudes thought they was all
this and that or whatever
And robin he stepped out boy
He went out he went he went to the car and came back and came back with that pistol
With his, you know, gym shorts on and all that man. He had the pistol down there. He said now
Now what now what y'all talking about?
You know, then they started going homer now homer now homer now. He's like, yeah, motherfucker
That's what I thought
And then you know, I'm saying like he was he was that guy man. He looked out for us like he taught us a lot
You know, he didn't you know
sugar-cold nothing
I mean, but he was a good dude, man. Like where was he from? Chicago, right? Yeah, exactly. Chicago
Yeah, I mean he came out to to you know, I'm saying like he went to high school in LA
But he you know, he had some Chicago
Like I said, you know, he and I he and I would talk because we spent a lot of time, you know
I mean we talk about it, you know
His wife was you know, his kids and whatever like that and
And and he was and you know what else he would do too. He would fall asleep at the drop of a dime
We used to think he was like narcoleptic
Because like he would fall asleep like he would fall asleep like in between takes
Like you doing right now
I'm not falling asleep. I'm just looking at you. I'm an amazing
I see you house party one. Yeah after that you blew up already by then
Yeah, yeah, that was a big deal and then you went how quick so they did house party to
Like real quick like real quick. Yeah, like
Yeah, like real quick and and the problem the thing was I mean for them. I mean look it mean look everybody benefited, you know, I'm saying
um, but
They um
They didn't have an option on us
Beyond that first movie. So that first movie they got us like really cheap
The second one that's when we had we stuck them up
You know comparatively, you know, I mean, um, and yeah, it was hot. You know, I'm saying, you know how it goes
You know the first one hot
House party hot. You gotta do house party two
You know and then you know then do a house party three and then do a class act
So, you know, that was uh, that was a hot that was a hot little movie run right there
you know, but
you know
God, I mean and I mean, I think I think I hope that's why the the film still hold up because
Man, we just having a lot of fun and a lot of good people. You could tell you could tell. Yeah, I mean, I mean
Joe, you've been you've been on you've been on a gang of movie sets
You you know when motherfuckers having fun when they ain't right and you know when you gotta when it's not a fun situation
You know like I well, I gotta
I gotta summon something
Else because the that that energy ain't here
Other times you like oh these motherfuckers. Oh these motherfuckers are jamming
It ain't gonna be no thing
To get to where I need to get to
That's what it was with us. It was just like, oh man, it's something, you know, it ain't like we're making Citizen Kane
You know, man, we're doing house party movies
But you know people come to depend like hey, man a house party movie gotta be something
We gotta have some fun. We need some dancing. We need some
You know, we need some pretty girls and whoa and and whatever whatever and
Kidding play is gonna go through some shit. You know like
Like, you know, like uh like homeboys do
You know, that's a lot of things to this day
So many people come up, you know, either to both of us or individually and they're like man
I said me and you know
I had a homeboy in high school
And they said they used to call us kid and play
He said like we tight
And that's that's what that's what it's become. You know, I mean like motherfuckers said like, uh, man
Don't try to don't try to get in between them. Don't try to separate them dudes and motherfuckers tight like hitting play
Like that's what it's come to represent. You know what I mean? Like motherfuckers stick together whatever, you know
Up down whatever whatever, but
Nah, man
How you gonna get between you can't get between kid and play
Who you gonna get between next week peanut butter and jelly, huh?
I don't think so
Wait, I got another funny story to hold up
Wait, you can look this up. You can look this up. We're going on to halftime here. Tony Bennett brother hit it
I got something for you though. Watch

I like to platter flawless like those flawless vocals. I can't like so much. This is super
Let's see if the puzzle fits
So far
What's going on with those stars over there? You don't even want to save them for two. Wait, you see how you bent that note?
I'm saving them. Eat them right now though. Let's go
There's training tonight. Let's go. We're training
You eat three stars
He can eat five more and never happen
You're still saying

You kick off the fucking memorial day weekend with uncle joey
I got a list. I go up there. We talk about it and everybody goes home. Have we all learned something. You understand me?
Uh, number two. So now it's 1995 a number another get down
Sound of the fucking drum. Anyway, wait before I forget
I want I want to have you look this up and then and then we'll come back to it because it's it's something that i'm
That i've i've been thinking about but i'm working on i'm kind of working it into into my stand-up but
Top 100 duos
And and I saw kid in play came in on that list, but I was a little
perturbed at what
Number we came in on like 50 best. I'm rolling stone. Is that like a hundred like top 100 duos digital
Maybe this one
Digital dream. No, no not even music duos
The top duos not even music duos
Like like yeah, like yeah, like like peanut butter and jelly
So you include that list kid in play like batman and robin. Yeah, that's fucking history
It is but but I'm but I was still like, you know, I you know, I was flattered and then I was like, wait a minute
They're ahead of us
Like peanut butter and jelly. I didn't have a problem with but there was like a couple of other ones
I was like in today's world with everybody bitching
Do you know the accomplishment to your own you young black motherfuckers man?
Do you have any idea the accomplishments?
I always say under the circumstances and I always use as an example no offense
When you look at the cover of dr. Dre's chronic that picture of him. Yeah
On that day
He could have been president of the United States on that day
Look at his fucking face
Where you guys were doing you started from fucking listen listen, dog
Oh gods
Nobody knew what the fuck you were doing now. Nobody know what the fuck you we didn't eat. We didn't even sitting back now
thinking of my life in those days
And I was still stuck in the early 80s
I was still crossing over
There was some of the shit I liked and some I liked I liked white lines
Yeah, I liked, uh, you know, I was yeah, I liked all those
But I like that expose type shit expose. I'm just using this example. Yeah. Yeah, that was a girl
That was fucking expose was fucking radio. Shit. I'm talking about the shit you motherfuckers are doing early on when I was going over
The cop or the let's get it get it together. Let's get it get it together
Like real loads a lot of what's going on with those stars. That's an orphan. I had four stars. That's okay. That's fucking that's
500 Lee are you fucking kidding me tonight? You got to do two grand tonight
Louis Gomez is coming on Wednesday and he's looking for blood
He's saying that fucking
Two thousand and seven nights a week. I'll be shitting but you didn't eat 2007 nights a week. You need stars last night
I'm doing a seven night. You didn't eat tonight seven nights. Stop your crying. You're doing two g's tonight. It's over
What the fuck you think we're talking about? Yeah, right? Did they're in training? They didn't come up
You're a 20. You don't die. I saw a list Gomez is coming on. You're gonna do 25. You're gonna die on Wednesday
You got to eat at least 2200 tonight
You're gonna piss gelatin this week. I'll die either way. I'm still I'm still I'm still nibbling man
You're gonna piss gelatin this week for the first time. I'm already piss. I can barely piss as it is
What was so we gotta go see a doctor then but you gotta eat these stars dog. Stop stop telling yourself stories
You're cutting yourself short. I'm gonna take another little nibble. Yeah, just don't worry about nothing. Keep nibbling
Yeah, but there was one list that I saw like top 100 duals or whatever
Like so you compared the simon and fucking garfinkel. Yeah. Yeah, there was way there was way up there
Yeah, there was way up there. We were like we were like number 77. Who gives a fuck, you know, how you know how
We're like number 77 list. Yeah, but but you know what I mean? The competitor in me was just like really
What number did you want to be though? I don't know you know what I'm saying? No, tell me. I don't know top 20
But you know what you're right when you think about it just like
You know, like I said, this is the same list that peanut butter and jelly like if I'm on the same list as peanut butter and jelly
Then that's probably pretty good. You know what I'm saying
So what else is on there the best list like what other oh
I I don't see this one. I
I just top top 100 put in top 100 duals. That's what I did. You did and what came up?
Let's see
Let's try this one. Was I that high did I just imagine this one? Maybe okay. Here we go
Tom and Jerry
Oh, yeah, there we go Han Solo in Chewbacca. Yeah Burton Ernie
So yeah scooby-doo and shaggy. Look Jesus Christ. Look scooby-doo is above milk and cookies. I don't believe that milk
I'm on the same list with milk and oh, I don't think this I don't think this is like uh, like an official
This is like people can vote on it
With no miss kitten player. Let's find it
hamburgers and fries is on it
This is a good list to be on
I know
I'm telling you I know I saw it. I was like, I know we're there somewhere. Uh, let's see here
I think we might need to get the church people to get on it. Let's see here. Hold on
Yeah, we gotta get you back on there
Simon and oh, that's right. Lucy and desi gotta be on there one of them lists
We was like number 77 or something but it was pretty, you know, I don't really get you back up there
Yeah, it's a common get your back. Yeah. Yeah, just a vote. Yeah, tell the audience look out. Look out for that
Vote vote for your boy. What were you studying for when all this shit came at you?
What were you looking to do? I mean this school you went to this high school Bronx school of science, right?
You had to get picked to go in there like you had to take a test
You know, you know, there was um back back then if you want to go to one of the um, the specialized public high schools
there was three of them was um
Stuyvesant
Bronx science and brooklyn tech
So you had to take a test and depending on how you did on the test
The the top kids went to stuyvesant then it was Bronx science and in brooklyn tech was the was the
Number three was number three
So um, so I made it to Bronx science
And um, I mean a thing it was, you know, I graduated from there
But then I went to I went to college right down the block at at Lehman college and I was a I was a english literature major
And at the same time, you know trying to you know kind of do our thing
You know, we did a lot of things man like before we ended up, you know as kid in play
We were doing like a lot of things man, which you know
You know, and then we then we just kind of figured it out like I man it's going to be
the two of us
You know and and like everybody knew what their job was, you know, like play play has a great
artistic eye
And you know, so I so how we look and how we're
Fashioned and what the album covers look like and all that artwork shit and all that
You do that because I don't know nothing about that what I do is I write the songs
That's what I do
So, you know that that made us a good team and then you got it, you know
You still got to trust one another and then like I said, we had the homeboy that had do song pepper in him already and he was hot
So the timing was right, you know I'm saying and then
You know the the the movies get you here they get you there, you know, I mean like then after that it's like
Then sometimes it's it's it's sometimes it's a little tough because
You're not you're not that same hungry cat no more, you know, I mean you like, you know, we out here
We out here in Cali
And you know, we smashing and you know, we getting
Superman high
and you know
Feeling yourself or whatever, you know, so it you know, we always had to
almost kind of shock ourselves back into that
That animal we used to be you know me because it's hard man because you know, we start doing good, you know
What what did I heard? Um, I heard Denzel say this um
when he was um
On the the the award circuit. He said ease is a greater threat
to
Progress
Than hardship. He said ease is a greater threat when you get even when she gets easy what you do you get soft
When we're up against it
When it's hard when we ain't got no options. What do we do?
We figure that shit out. We do it
You know
Somebody, you know, somebody let you slide on some shit man. That's when we you know, that's when we ease up ease
Is a greater threat to progress
Than hardship
No, let me ask you something. I mean you started telling you rap and live shows the whole thing
You probably did a little bit then when when did you make when did you decide one day?
I'm gonna get on thought because I met you in 99 maybe at the improv with yeah, we're Pablo
I was gonna ask you when to let everything Pablo. We know each other because of Pablo Francisco. No, but you were with the manager
That's how we met. He was worthy worthy. You were worthy. I was talking to worthy. You came by and you asked me if I knew you
I said, no, we shook hands
You asked me about my accent. We started talking. Oh, but we I think we want yeah, but I but yeah
I was with him, but it was it was on a I know me and you just do a lot of Pablo shows a lot of shit with Pablo
Yeah, I did his cd in houston
Yeah, still love him. I love that guy. I love it. Don't see him enough
I know when this when does anyone see pop up when you do bump into him, bro
You get this warm feeling in you. You do
But like when is it? You know I'm saying like I would almost feel like like like, you know I'm saying like like
You know, I don't want to be crazy about but it's it's weird like
You know I'm saying like do we know he's alive? You know what I'm saying? Yeah, but you know what I'm saying?
He's out there as always. Yeah, man. He's one of those guys that still travels
47 weeks he's america's quarter horse. I mean he does improv's he does charlotte. He does
Funny bones. He's out there
And those guys you can't control they're fucking animals. They have no children
No, and you know what the guy was, you know, he was
He was always great to me and he taught me a lot
this is when I you know, that's when I first started when I first started jumping up and trying to do it and
You know me didn't know what I was doing. So I learned a lot from him
You I remember we used to do that the old I remember you and me at the old brayer improv
the old one
That we used to fucking rock
And just trying to learn movie theater. Yeah, just trying to learn how to how to do how to do this how to do this thing
Yeah, before they moved it to new fly shit
You know, um, you know from 95 guys
To 2005
Yeah, I was out seven nights a week like my life chains
For 10 years
Yeah, but the first time I took a week off was when the longest year I got released
Which was 10 years 12 years ago this week
Was when I said, okay, I gotta move me now
I'm not gonna go out five nights a week no more. It took another two years to get off the blow
I got out of the store for a while to rid just my mentality
I just hold around town and now I'm back at the store
You man, can I ask you something?
man, I
And you know, I go way back with paul, you know, listen to that man, but man, I never never liked the store
And I and I never and I never performed there
But you know me I respect guys that do but man, I was just like man, I just
The energy is your dislike for it. Let me ask you an honest question because we're brothers old school
Is your dislike for it because they don't give you spots or from the first time you walked in there you go
You know what this place ain't for me
Yeah
No, not that they didn't give me spots like they would that that that you know, I'm saying that that wasn't an issue
It was it was
Doing it and then trust me. I was I used to go there long before I became a comic
I I would go there with chapelle and martin, you know, I mean, I you know, I was I was the funny guy in the crew
You know, just checking and taking notes and you know, I'm saying that kind of deal
So man, I was up in that place for a long long long long time
I mean, you know, I remember all the hot girls that motherfuckers used to holler at you know
I'm saying like you said worthy and them used to be up in there and you know, they were smashing
Smashing them waitresses and all this and then you know, he was cool with everybody and and and as a social place
It was especially then, you know in the 90s. It was in the night. It was awesome
I went there the last night. Did you but here's the deal. I'm too old to go to every night
There's a bunch of young cats
Yeah, so I try to go and I do bright monarch shows on saturday seven o'clock
Made me out of there by nine
And then tuesday I call in I go down there and work out a little bit, but they don't work on no more. It's sold out
You got to go down there with polished material and shit because they put you in between chapelle and fucking joe rogan
Oh, they got cats are rolling up like that
Oh, yeah cats are rolling up like that during the week this week, though
Right, so you can't even go up there. No tuesday night. It's sold out to the bill
There's people in there from england who listen to the pot remember dude used to do his fat tuesday there
My god, no that that tory used to do. I did the first time I did a richard prior role
Then sat in that mitzy box dog 35 hours. He got me out of them
monday night latino night
Right, and you know what I used to do the black rooms. I did great for like three times
And then I died on freaky monday. Yeah at the improv at the improv
I died a slow death and I said no more black rooms
No, and for four or five because those those deaths
Oh
excoriating well the guy in front of me said nega
So he was white and and who was in the room? Uh
friday was in the room
Chris Tucker, Chris Tucker said get that motherfucker off the stage
So now there was no now they brought up another white dude
Essentially, if I was the host that night, I would have brought up a black dude, right?
To say something about what happened bring me up, right?
I could have cleansed the palette, but I think the deejay. Let me let me throw no, but those guys they they against you too
There's what I'm saying. They're my hostie dudes like them cats to be hosting over here. They weren't thinking they not not just not thinking
They want to train wreck. They want to they want to think that's why that's what another reason why I don't I don't fuck with that
Sometimes either you know I'm saying like they're gonna get your fucked up intro. They're gonna they're gonna do
15 20 minutes in front of you
On some ratchet shit
And then you know what I mean and then and then bring you up on a smooth tip like you know what I'm saying like
What are you? What are you? So, I mean look out of any club any place you thought you got to be like
As as a creator for like, what am I gaining?
What am I gaining? What am I and what do I got to do to win here?
What up William saying like and like it look it's like any club like you going there's like I man, you know what?
It's ain't for me
You know I'm saying it ain't for me. I know this listen, but that's what I'm saying. I mean
The country says 10 clubs across the country
That I don't even walk into
Because I get the same feelings as you my brother, right, you know
I can count them up dude. I love the lab factory. I love I love the you know I'm saying
You know, I love the improv on
I have no problem with the california rooms. I can't lie to you dude. I'm come on. How many how many
Dude, how many how many not even clubs? How many converted bars have we done?
How many willy barcena and jeff garcia and sabastian satina and robert zapata
And rick martine shows that we've done like like it ain't about you know, we've gotten up and you know, I get
Get up in gully spot. I take the pilot for robert zapata eight years ago
And every time I see him he goes dog
It's gonna be done pretty soon
And I'm like I wouldn't want that shit now
If you're fucking who you're gonna sell that to now eight ten years later
We did all those no no no no listen, bro. I paid my dues just like you we were there
We were at the same rooms on the tuesday night for 35 dollars, bro
Yeah, and a burrito and a taco. I used to be in those rooms with you. Fuck. Yeah
Casa latina
Fucking the the gell willy bar centers room
When they threw a knife at willy tortilla tortillas
And then it changed a thousand times the names
People have no idea the yeah, man. That's you know, yeah, I would switch it up these one nighters
It was training guys in those days for me because in those days
He would do a willy bar center room from eight to ten
Rudy marino then rudy would tell you the swing had the ice house on lock 10 30
It could be the brave bull too
And in o'hambra and then you would have an 11 45 at the company store
We're just gonna be late because any grip was gonna do three hours. Yeah, but at least you picked up
40 and 35 you made 75 hours
I put 20 in the gas tank and by a grandma blow for 40 and I owe you 20
You know I'm saying so I could wake up and have cigarettes and breakfast in the morning
Who the fucking thinking dealing with Joey bananas?
Look, yeah, I got a budget my budget is budgetary. It was bro those rooms
I did listen when after 2007 all those little rooms shut down for a while
And bro, I was starving and I couldn't figure out. I'm not doing coke
But I'm broke. How is this going? I go? Oh
I'm living off residuals and weekends. You know what I'm missing those weekly shows
It started monday nights. You'd go up the universal and the girl was a kid's name. Remember John Lovett still had his day
No, no, no, this was way before ha ha. We're talking about the ha ha. No, no, no, no universe one monday nights
The club is still there. I know what you're talking about. What's the crazy guy that used to book that
Ernie g monday nights 40 40 bucks across from the piano bar. You went there
Yes
You went in there you picked up 40 you shot to latino line at the live factory
They paid you 25 but via check, right? Yeah, you got to come back to get there. Yeah, you got to go back
Then I go to the comedy store and get 10 minutes and go the fuck home in those days
And then if you were really cool in those days you did
Uh monday night the improv if you were white you went up before 10 to nine
Yeah, so if you were white you got out of there by 10 to nine
The first comic would do six minutes six minutes
And then there was a two white dude spots and then they put flavor in there and then they turn all black
So they would have like me josh wolf
David tell would sprinkle that room with machine guns
And then a black dude would go up there and rip that fucking room apart then from there
Wait, was you doing it when uh remember my man? Um, uh, they used to call him
Zoo zoom in I was there with zoo zoom in right zoom in used to run it
That he ran it before he did it before d-ray right no way before before d-ray. This is 97. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah zoom in
Zoom in still out there cori miller great kid. I send them my love
If somebody knows them tell them joy dears. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. We love zoom. I love that dude with all my heart
I don't yeah, and then I used to go to the live factory and do latino night for Gilbert escaval
And then from there I go to the commie store
But if that's how you rocked on monday night, you know how to have a triple header you had to do the store
The laugh factory and the fucking right, but then somebody had a somebody had a bar going somebody had
Yeah, you had to pick up your 50 bucks bar center had a had a
You know zings and ladies and gentlemen rick martinez people always talk about Rudy Moreno
I had to leave LA because I couldn't find work and let me tell you something guys
I was doing if I do the math now
I can't tell you I was copping 60 dollars a night in cocaine
Four to five nights a week and my wife had no idea
Because I was right because the money never came up missing. I was picking up 20s 50s 75s 82s
What's his name would pay you 57? But you always picked up 80 bucks a night. What's over there? What's in that bottle over there?
tequila
80 bucks a night is fucking
400 bucks
And let's pretend
Half of that like the commie store pays you 15
I don't know if your people know that when I go to the commie store on tuesday night on a wednesday
Even back in 90 fucking seven they pay you 15 dollars
In those days the improv will pay you 27
1750 depending how long the fucking spot was
And uh, and the lab factory would pay you 25 bucks on monday night
But they made they they paid you with a check a month later. You'd be sitting there for that check doing the math going
Yeah, I did three latino nights. I'm picking up 75 bucks, right and you're gonna have one of you check the 25
So this you had to make a living
doing one nighters
And that was an abundance of them and every once in a while you pick up one for 300 you're like
Oh, shit. Yeah, somebody did like uh bakers feel corporate thing. Yeah
No, no, no, no, no you pick up one of those you
Bro, I tell these guys. I picked up one one year
Doug december is my month
For me to really rock in this town. I always come through in december
There's a god up there that goes, you know what joey you suffer the whole year, but december
Right, we'll send you out in style one year. I booked a non-union commercial
20 years ago walking in for another audition
And they gave me like
$3,000 cash four days before christmas
Two days shoot two days shoot international buyer blew up with that, you know
Bro, when you first get here and you're doing $15 spots
Are you fighting your bum and cigarettes at the store?
To you to borrow $20 from somebody get a 20 and get a five dollar in those days
I could steal cigarettes from the gas station across the street right there. What the oracle
No, no, and i'm thinking of the i'm thinking i'm thinking of the laugh factory. It was down. No, it was way down
It was by the guitar center now. It's a tire shop
From 97 to about 99. I was going there every morning
I would wait for the owner to walk out
And pump gas and i'd walk in there and put my hand behind the counter and take the cups over there
There's there we have cups over there
Right, but right next to the fridge on the other side
Oh, sorry. Yeah, looks like you're drinking on the bottom. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah if you don't if you don't mind out of none
I don't drink that shit. That's uh somebody left out here. So I think she had to hurt but don't worry about it
Tequila kills every drink. I'm only teasing you. So
All right, this is like an episode of law and order
Yeah, no, no, no, no. It was a different fucking so those those games those
Let me tell you something. I think those those bro. Those were the hustle days those shows hustle days, bro
We had those shows mixed with the comedy store. Are you kidding me? That's like being a fighter
Yeah, you know what it but i'm doing four fucking training sessions, right?
It's not that I don't respect. I'm not that I don't respect the comedy store like I know what that place means like
I mean, I know what that place means in the annals of comedy, but man
It doesn't work for you. It doesn't work. It doesn't work for listen
Mitzi sure was walking past the main room one night
She looked in the door and she saw an independent show. This was way before mitzi
She had a pass here and she looked up on stage and rudy marina was that
She waited for rudy to get off and she goes i'm making you a wrangler
Calling for spots and next week rudy goes i'm a regular joe. What do you think I go come on down rudy?
Rudy gets a spot on a wednesday night. His spot is at 9 45
rudy shows up at 9 30 and there's five guys waiting to go on before rudy they're running late because
Somebody guys came in or something man. I remember rudy sitting there for 15 minutes and going
I'll never come back here again
And in the back of my mind, I was used to it down there
Like it had become a part of who I was I would go down there to socialize so whenever my spot came up
Yeah, he's ready for whatever sometimes. I knew I wasn't going up. No if I call mooney show up
Yeah, you might as well go to home dice was there and I saw paul mooney at go home
Yeah, joe rogan and sometimes that boy in those days rogan was doing 40
But any griffin was doing callers man. See you. I mean callers was doing too. Come on. Come on. Mooney was doing
Eddie griffin. I mean come on man. He's coming to go home. I do trust me. I used to have spots
When I see them motherfuckers, I'm like, yo, I'm out. I'm out. It's funny how
Dave Chappelle
Started a trend of doing long sets. Let me tell you something lee
99 2000
Eddie griffin would go on stage at 10 o'clock at night
And he would get off at five to two
I mean, can you imagine that's crazy you and your girl from paul on the Saturday you call him and you're like, we're gonna see
Ron punches
And you fly fucking down there
And you park your car and you walk in there and it's not ron punches
It's fucking any griffin at 10 o'clock and at midnight eddy's still on stage now. Listen
I'm gonna look in the eye lee and tell you something
At that day and age. I understood it
I understood what ego was. I understood all those things. So I didn't take it as personal
as a lot of other comics
Hold up. We're taking it
No, but that that but it it it shit ain't right. No, no, no, it wasn't not right. It's shit ain't right
I remember this and I know you remember this
How and who who was who was a mentor of mine and idle of mine?
As well, uh, paul mooney, but I remember when paul mooney would come in there
On the late night tip and his mission was to drive every white person out of the showroom
Like summarily, you know what I mean? Like that was his
You know what I mean? He was on some nights. He came in. He was on that tip like
And he would work on each one. He would get up together and you know, all right
You know, I'm saying he just hit him with he was you know, I mean sometimes that was his goal
Like I'm going to drive each and every
White person from here
with my
voice and thoughts guess who used to have to follow him for a year
Your moony you're looking at him. I learned more from that dude. Good. No, I mean, I would always go down there
That would be the man now, but it would be paul mooney and joe Diaz
I would sit back there and like it would be third the the set would be
The excuse me 20 minutes late
And I'd sit there going, you know, first I got nothing to do tomorrow morning
In those days I got up at eight in the morning. Anyway, I would snort till five and sleep till late
I was tip-top when I was a marine. Oh, geez
Amazing bro. I would follow him
I still got the lineups
For a year
She put me behind them
And I learned and one night that is trial by fire
I kept telling the club in miami, why don't you bring paul mooney down here?
I think paul mooney would do great
And finally they booked them and I go paul they got you in miami. What the improv this was in coconut grove
Yeah, I know the one. I know that one 2001. I know that one. Yeah, but the marinos and oh, yeah
This is 2000 2001. Yeah, I get love that one in there and I feature from and he's having a rough week
It's the week that
The cubans sent the government to go get ellion finales
So he kept going up on stage like just
He started ripping the cubans bro right off the bat. I'm howling in the back
But those cubans they weren't gonna ride. No, it was kind of way. He was going your cubans got your nigga wake up call
Yeah, he was walking around. He said that to everybody. Shit
Your mother fuckers got your nigga wake up call manana talking all this nonsense and shit
They came in here and took ellion
And that's what he used to go madonna. I knew when she was manana. He would go off on that shit
He would go. I mean, it was just a different way of looking at it
He had a hard time like tuesday and wednesday
But by thursday, he picked it up
He picked it up. He picked up a way to attack the cubans right and then get him back and it'll make it funny
And then that was yeah after that. Yeah, he had he had jokes about them like swimming on top of each other
Yeah, using each other for rafts. So, you know, I mean, oh, what up, you know, you gotta find a way to do it
Like you used to say little things to me, bro. That really I learned
Yeah, like I would ask him stupid shit and he'd give me a really an answer and then he started talking to me
And he would talk to me about horses and shit horses because he was a gambler. We like horse
Oh, like all horses like that. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, and you know, that's you ever been to the kentucky derby
No, no, no, you yeah, man. I've been there like three times even another piece of star
You'll see the kentucky derby. Let me tell you something. You'll see who should go
Let me tell you something. I got things on my bucket list
If you if you like a horse dude, you got to do it, you know, they got these
You know, they they were like this is like several years ago, but there was this organization. They were trying to get like more
um
celebrities of color
At the at the derby
So man, they set it out for us, man. They flew us there put us up
You know, I mean like caked us off and whatever man, we went and you know, you get all you know, you get all
Fucking, you know, dressed up, you know, you're lady. My lady's there with a fucking hat and shit
Mint jewelers and shit. It's something to see and then like in the infield
That's like all the white trash cats got, you know, it's like a like a like a NASCAR race or whatever that's in there
But that's not what we are
they had us in like a
You know, like of like a box and whatever
shit is dope
Give me the guy's number, maybe he only wants a couple of cubans there
Yeah, nah, I gotta do it. We got to do it. Look what's going on with the stars. Like it's fresh. It's fresh. What the fuck? What is this?
Come on. What is this? I just want to know what is this? Y'all got rules and we we need other music. We need another music break
Yeah, what is this? Is this a Czech environment in here? Can I read the stars here? What's going on?
There's no music there's no music yet. There's no music till the end my brother
We're just chit-chatting here.
We need an instrumental hip-hop beat that I can freestyle to.
Do the police thing.
Oh, God.
Do the police thing.
As I chug.
All of a sudden we must come on the show and rap.
The words getting out.
You know I got 1,500, 2,000 milligrams.
The words getting out.
After that, like Ohio Play is 5.
Really?
It's just...
The whole thing is, if you do it, they're gonna take it down on YouTube.
Oh, so don't do that?
Yeah, you can't be singing no fucking music here this evening.
What? You can't even do music that I'm making up out of my head?
No, no, no, no. They don't want to hear no music.
They don't want to hear nothing.
Yeah, but you know what you gotta do?
These things, like these cats, they put out these...
They put out these music.
They put out these CDs of just beats.
And they give you permission to use the beats any way that you want to.
I'm gonna put you up on it.
I use them all the time.
I've made records with them that I've sold.
And they say, amen.
And it says, like, when you...
Like, you will buy the CD.
And it will say, hey, man, you know, there's like 20 beats here.
And they're like, yo, these beat...
Use these beats any way you want.
We don't care.
We give you the right worldwide.
So I'm gonna put you up on that.
I need something like that in my life.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Is that what you can do?
Yeah, that's what you can do whatever you...
You know what I'm saying?
What's going on with those stars?
You wait what tonight?
Two, two fifty, that's four.
He might got something to do later.
Boy, he got nothing to do.
He got nothing to do with the whole...
He got something to do later.
And stare at the wall.
Something to do later.
You didn't even break a thousand milligrams.
Something to do later.
What are you talking about?
Something to do later.
Two fifty and two is four fifty and three stars.
Four stars.
Four stars.
Woop-de-doo.
Three hundred is eight hundred.
Broken count.
You're way off.
You're twelve hundred off.
The minimum ain't it.
That's it.
You're slipping.
I'm gonna do one more...
I'm gonna do one more edge.
There's one...
Even fucking...
My man here is taking chances.
Even pussy-ass kid is taking chances.
Even kids taking...
Eat the fucking things.
There's a...
I'm gonna...
You're gonna regret it.
Oh fuck yeah.
But at least you're going into the cave knowing.
You know what I'm saying?
Go.
You ever watched that?
No, not knowing.
Do you got...
You know we used to watch...
That L-Ray network?
You ever watched that?
I watch Friday night.
Sometimes they have like Kung Fu movies.
Yeah, man.
That's what I'm talking about.
Like on Sundays.
Like on Sundays.
Like all day long.
They have like Kung Fu movies and shit, man.
Like all them shit that we used to fuck with, man.
I like...
I'm like...
You remember Bruce Lee from...
I got a big bag of weed and a fucking...
You remember Bruce Lee from day one?
Yeah, man.
What are you talking about?
Green Hornet days and shit?
Green Hornet.
You remember that one?
Yeah.
Kato?
Remember Kato?
Yeah.
He disappeared for a while.
Then he came back with...
Yeah.
Fist of Fury.
Fist of Fury.
Chinese connection.
By the time the Chinese connection came up...
Return of the Dragon.
It was fucking over.
Enter the Dragon.
It was all over.
Chinese connection.
Chinese connection was...
You know, no dogs and Chinese allowed.
I'm fucking believable.
Kick the sign and all, man.
Kick me.
Bruce Lee was the mother.
Come on, man.
Bruce Lee was the co-owner.
He just took over.
But I'll tell you what, as dope as he was, man, we like that next era.
You know what those...
You know what those...
Woz Wutang kind of films.
Man, we like that better.
No, not me.
I did.
I was traditional when he died.
I did because...
No, because, well...
When he died, I watched...
When he died, maybe for another eight months, I watched oh, for movies.
And then once they started flying through the air, I was done.
Man, you crazy?
No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no.
That was the best time ever.
No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no.
Man, that's when we really got into it.
Because if you look at it...
No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no.
Look, Bruce Lee was dope.
You know what I'm saying?
He wasn't...
I'm traditional.
Remember when they on the boat and entered the Dragon?
The white guys, do I bother ya?
Yeah.
You know what I'm saying?
Yeah, and then he makes us go on the fucking raft.
like, don't waste y'all self.
Like, Bruce Lee was dope, but trust me,
when you got to like, you know,
five deadly Venoms and Master Killer
and all that Wu Tang and 36 Chamber and all that,
man, I really like those movies, man.
I went to see one of those.
Cause they got all the, they got all the corny,
hokey drama shit.
This was the shit, Lee.
I go to Jersey City to watch one of those fucking movies.
By this time, I had retired fully from Kung Fu movies.
And I don't remember which one it was.
I get the bus, I get off Lee.
I mean, 10 minutes into the movie,
they're chasing a Chinese guy and I loved it.
I was in and all of a sudden he's running with this thing
that must weigh 300 pounds, it's a treasure chest.
Okay, I've been there, I packed up a safe one time
and ran out of a fucking place.
Wasn't no fucking yard that you're running,
but I carried it for a few feet.
Adrenaline's a motherfucker.
He wasn't, he wasn't Bob Hayes with it.
He gets to a fucking mountain, they're chasing him.
He looks up at the mountain Lee
and he goes like this with the safe.
He throws it up into the air and then he jumps,
lands on the mountain and grabs the gold out of the air.
I got up, put my popcorn down
and that was the end of my Kung Fu theory.
How sad was that?
See, let me tell you something.
That's how sad it was.
I'll tell you when I made a comeback,
when I got arrested, when the warrant got released for me,
November 18, 1987, against my best judgment.
My buddy had to do from Detroit, that was crazy.
He goes, go home, I didn't go home.
I told him I was gonna go home.
I didn't tell nobody about it, I was going.
I rented above the law, lethal weapon was out
and I wouldn't see that shit, I wouldn't watch that shit.
And that was the first time I watched the martial arts film.
That was above the law.
Anybody seen Richie?
No, that was the one before that.
Anybody seen Richie?
Bobby Lupo.
Anybody seen what Richie did to Bobby Lupo?
Where's Bobby Lupo?
Who shot Bobby?
That's the one where he's a New York guy.
Anybody seen Richie?
The Chinese guy sticks his in there.
But that was the first.
Bobby Lupo.
Oh no, no, no, I'm lying to you.
Code of Silence with Chuck Norris, 83,
with Dennis Farina, Garbage Men, Cops Undercover.
That was one of his, no, one of his first movies.
Dennis Farina got old money, man.
No, Dennis Farina got Midnight, remember Midnight Run?
87, but before that Dennis Farina showed up
in Code of Silence and there was, oh, Thief, 81.
He was one of the fucking bad guys.
Check it out, Lee Syat, IMDb Dennis Farina,
see what his first film was.
It was a Chicago movie.
It was either like the first Dennis Farina.
Wait, wait, you know what we was talking about before?
Wait, let's go back, cause I wanted to ask about that.
He also had that show from Chicago on NBC
with Andrew Dice Clay.
He did that, but then he did Law and Order too, right?
He did Season That.
But that's what I was gonna ask you,
like somebody like that, like he acted with somebody like that.
Thief was his first movie.
What the fuck do you think you're dealing with?
What's the second movie?
Do you want TV movies or real movies?
What was the second film?
Wait, what they did?
Code of Silence.
Who the fuck?
No, you think I'm a fucking amateur from Johnny 28?
You're expert on Dennis Farina.
Then he came back with Midnight Run in 87,
which to me, the best commercial monster
ever to fucking in a film.
I've said it once, I said it a thousand times, Rick Ramos.
Better than Robert De Niro in Analyze This?
Better than Robert De Niro
until you see Robert De Niro in Fucking Goodfellas,
you know, shit like that.
But I liked him.
Wait, we were talking about this before,
like you acted with him?
Yes.
I was asking you something like was,
like how, you know what I'm saying?
Like how heavy?
Sometimes the interviewer gets interviewed.
The first time I did Analyze That,
I thought they kept saying your scene might be with De Niro,
they have not decided yet.
Okay.
And then a week before they, I shot,
they said, no, no, no, no,
your scene's with Anthony Lampogli.
I go perfect.
But.
So when I was there, I was there for two days,
but they had two cameras going.
They had A and B.
Was it out here?
No, Jersey.
But.
It's a Prano neighborhood right there.
In the cut.
Right in the fucking cut with Incarni
and all that shit right there.
Oh, God.
So right there on the streets, they had the trailers up.
And they said De Niro shooting the barbecue scene
over on the other thing.
So really, I never really, I got to see him,
like, you know, 10 feet away.
Did I take a picture or break his balls?
Not even close.
I didn't say nothing.
We would never do that.
I would never do something.
I wouldn't do that.
I wouldn't.
I did my day at work.
And then I booked a boxing movie.
And I read the script and I was going to play his thing.
And I learned my lines.
I even paid an acting coach.
I made notes.
I taped myself and I was prepared.
My scene was Thursday night.
And it was like a 15 minute scene,
but they wanted me to come in Thursday morning.
I said, you know what?
How about I fly?
And I got a fucking tremendous deal on the ticket.
I use my miles.
How about I got a room Wednesday?
Right.
They go, come on down.
Right.
I fly down there.
I get a room.
I check and, you know, me, I look around.
Everything's coached.
I roll a joint.
I'm going to be down there for six to seven days.
I got a big bag of fucking weed with me.
I roll a joint and they say when you check in
that you get three meals cooked for you.
You have to come down to the show room from seven to nine,
11, 30 to one.
Right.
And five to seven.
And it's one meal.
I'm like, what the fuck are you talking about?
Okay.
I go downstairs.
They shuttle me over to the set.
It's the first set with him
and your buddy yellow cool J.
Okay.
Now I don't know this.
Right.
I just want to go.
You know us, bro.
Let's go check this shit out.
I want to see if I'm all with my head in this motherfucker.
Yeah.
Let me just sniff it out.
Let me just sniff this shit out.
I always heard that.
What's his name was always on set.
He didn't give a fuck.
He never wanted his trailer
cause he always wanted to see an inspired a man too.
I was never in my fucking trailer.
I was at night when I smoked though,
but I was always on the set watching.
Just in case he needed me, whatever.
Jack Nicholson.
Somebody said he was always on set.
Yeah.
He's always on deck.
Some motherfuckers just like that.
They like being on deck.
So I get there and it's the first scene
with him and DeLiro.
Now in my mind, DeLiro's gonna show up blank.
DeLiro's there.
He's got two white dudes with him.
He's got the director talking to him.
Right.
I love cool J comes over.
They shake hands.
They hugged everything solid.
You know what's going on.
I'm over here in this whole thing.
They go back upstairs.
They set the cameras up.
They block.
They block a few scenes.
Right.
They come back down.
They each go to their respective corners
and about 25 minutes later.
Let's go guys.
Let's do this shit.
I'm sitting there drinking.
Now it's lit.
Ready to go.
Ready to go.
Hello, cool J has become a great little actor.
40 years brother.
Man, you know what I'm saying?
You know what I'm saying?
I know that dude.
I know that dude for a long time.
I know you do.
He works at it.
He gets lessons all the time.
So yeah.
So he's getting his, he's ready to,
he ready to get busy too, huh?
So they're getting ready to get busy.
Everybody ready in positions?
Everybody in the markers?
Yeah.
All right.
Action.
Roll.
No, roll cameras.
Action.
Fucking LL Cool J and him start to talk.
And I could see that when LL Cool J looks at the narrow.
I could see it in his eyes.
You lose it.
Okay.
And all of a sudden you're like public cut.
And all of a sudden I could see LL Cool J going, sorry.
And now he's like, all right, we'll start it from scratch.
But you could see it in LL Cool J's head.
Next take.
Boom.
After a minute.
Boom.
Rattled.
Shulk.
Okay.
Same thing.
They rap.
They shoot the scene.
Everybody's happy.
Everybody goes home.
The next morning there's a scene
and then it's me and De Niro alone.
He comes in and asks me where the fucking do this.
Right.
Me and him alone.
Same thing, but they took dude out.
Right.
So now it's me and him, I'm sitting.
I don't have to do dick, bro.
Right.
All I gotta do is sit like this, laying back,
like I'm watching TV and I'm reading newspaper.
And he asked me a question and I fucking answered.
I got on this Saturday.
De Niro shows up by 9.15, whatever.
They shoot another shit.
They shoot me about 11 o'clock.
About 11 o'clock he comes over, shakes my hand,
introduces himself.
I say hello.
He asked me if I'm Italian, I'm a Cuban.
Wow, I had a Cuban friend who was a lot darker than you.
Ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba.
Right.
Very lighthearted.
He goes, do you want to record?
Shootin' the shit.
Like he like, yo, Bob De Niro's shootin' the shit with me?
I can't say nothing.
I don't say nothing.
He walks away.
He comes back, he goes, you want to rehearse a little bit?
I go, yeah, let's do it.
Boom, done.
Second rehearsal, boom, done.
He tells me to take a pause here.
Boom, done.
Let's do this, boom, done.
You guys ready?
Yeah, let's do this.
Now the whole time I'm fucking with him, dawg.
I ain't lookin' at this motherfucker.
I don't have the balls to look at this motherfucker.
I'm glancing at him.
I'm makin' believe I'm lookin' at him.
But I can't look at this motherfucker's eyes.
So you're tryin' to wait till the time to go?
To really work it.
And to get it, okay, I got to work, right.
I ain't gonna waste this.
My brother first take.
Da, da, da, da, da, da, da, da.
I look him straight in the eye.
And all of a sudden, time stops.
And you see the guy in Cape Fear.
Yeah.
You see Godfather too.
You see the priest with Madonna's ex-husband
when they escaped from the jail in Buffalo
and they became priests.
You see the guy with fellas.
You see the raging bull.
And him and Robert Duvall.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, dawg.
Oh, Dehunter.
You see every movie he's ever been in
and whatever thought you had in your mind, stutters.
And all of a sudden they go, cut!
And you're like, what?
Diaz, you missed your line.
You're like, oh, shit.
That's how powerful his face is.
He's heavy.
But he must know.
He knows.
He knows.
Yeah, they know.
Robert De Niro knows.
They know that people are gonna choke.
Sean Penn knows.
Yeah, during rehearsal, we're just shit-chatting.
Leo knows.
All those guys gotta know that we're sure.
They know the first time they gotta look at you.
I know, and I'm just mean.
Yeah, it's kind of, then the second take again.
This time I kept it together and said it.
But after that, I made myself just stare at him
and talk to him for a little while.
And I kept saying, you know,
the guy from, so maybe what you're saying
is you wish you would have,
you put your eyes on him before,
like got that over with?
No, no, no, it wouldn't have mattered.
It was gonna.
No matter.
It was gonna go down.
I could have gone to a dance with him.
And the first time I had an act with him,
it's still gonna go down.
And you're right.
It's probably not.
There's certain people, somebody mentioned to me once,
they did a scene with Denzel in the movie.
And we were talking about something,
and he goes, dog, there's nothing worse
than a Denzel stare down.
You're gonna lose.
You don't know, he goes, you just,
your whole body just stops.
Yeah.
He goes, the first two times because it's Denzel.
Just hold on.
It's Den fucking's out.
How many movies you still do every year, dog?
You know what I'm saying?
Like, look, Denzel, right?
I mean, it's Denzel.
No.
No, but I'm saying.
I'm asking you, my brother.
Me?
You're still doing movies.
Yeah, no, no, not nearly as much.
But you're doing music.
Yeah, I mean.
You're the last of the real Moeakens, G.
You're surviving out in Cali with kids.
Look, I'm lucky because, look, I'm not only just that,
but I've gotten off into the voiceover game.
You know what I'm saying?
Like, you know how it is.
You gotta be crafty on this thing.
And once you find out things that people think you're good at,
you have to try to exploit that.
But to my point, when we were talking about earlier was,
hey man, we're in this thing and we're doing our thing,
but we're not that off that,
that when we get to work with legends,
like it doesn't mean anything.
You know, it means something.
You know, it means something to work with Robert De Niro.
You know what I mean?
I told you, you know, you talking about Robert De Niro,
I said, I got fleaky when I worked with Paul Sorvino.
Like, you know what I mean?
There's just certain people.
I did something with him too.
Yeah, I mean, but you know, he's, you know what I mean?
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
He's happy.
You know what I mean?
Like, there's certain people that you just like,
yo man, you know what I mean?
You know, or are you doing something with your boy
and you look like, yo, do you know who this fucking is?
You know?
And that's, and to me,
I think that's one of the cool things about it.
I got, like, I don't want to use that.
You know, you ever see these old jaded ass motherfuckers
been in there too long,
like nothing gets them excited anymore.
You know what I mean?
Like, you know what I mean?
Like, no disrespect, but I used to really love Richard Jenny.
You know what I mean?
Me too.
Jenny was like a really funny dude thing,
but every time, but you know, it was almost like,
got Richie, Richie, you know, obviously, you know,
he got to a point where like, you know, like,
shit wasn't making him happy anymore.
Like, even when good stuff happens, you know what I mean?
God, that's his soul, none of you are right.
Yeah, absolutely.
And he was, me as a good dude and a really good dude to me.
Me too.
You know what I'm saying?
Me too.
Good to me too.
Like, you know what I'm saying?
Like, when you get to that point, when, you know,
when, even you, like, you get to, you get an opportunity
and then, you know, like all, you get a pilot or something
and then you go, all right, well, eh.
And that's it, it's gonna work.
You know, then what are we doing?
What are we doing it for?
Like, I still get excited about stuff
that happens in our business.
You know what I mean?
Like, it's fun.
Like, you know what I mean?
Kicking a hit with you, man.
Me and you ain't kicked it in a long time.
That shit is fun.
You know what I mean?
I didn't do nothing.
I didn't do anything today.
You know, I worked all weekend, me and Playhead shows
over the weekends, man.
I got back here.
I didn't do shit today, but I drank champagne
and I got a manny petty.
You know, like, that, you know, you know what I'm saying?
And that's what, wait, wait, wait.
Because, because that, because me and you used to do
the Brea Improv on Tuesdays and Wednesday nights
and mad nights and, you know what I mean?
How many Sebastian Satina rooms?
You know what I'm saying?
But you know what?
Like, they don't know.
For me, I gotta be honest with you.
I wake up every morning and I'm happy that I'm still here.
And then I'm happy that I'm still here.
Yeah.
Do you know what I'm saying?
Like, I get two blessings every morning.
Wait, but look, look at.
How the fuck does a guy like me end up in Los Angeles,
California doing stand-up rockin' comedy at the store?
Do you think you fucking people are baffled?
I'm baffled.
Wait, and what you talking about?
Look, and people think, I'm like, I don't, I don't want,
you know, you know, me like not, you know,
you know, loving the comedy store or whatever like that.
I don't want anybody to get it twisted.
I don't want anybody to get it twisted.
Like, like it's not, like it's not a prestigious place.
Please say, do we not have talks and clubs?
I just don't.
Dude, I'm telling you.
And I don't want to say any names.
Paulie's, Paulie's my dude.
There's nothing.
Yeah, I know you're on Paulie.
Paul my dude.
Nothing wrong with that.
And there's nothing.
And if you really think, I mean,
that place is one of the preeminent place.
You look, and, but this is where,
this is where we came because this is the stuff
at its highest level.
It's the comedy store.
It's the live factory.
It's the improv.
You know, it's the, you know, it's the, you know,
and there's improv's dotted all around here.
And there's cool rooms.
You know, somebody does something cool.
They do, they, man, my man, Adam Hunter.
I've been out of town,
but he been trying to get me to come over there.
They're at the dime.
You know, Chappelle went over to that spot.
Like man, they, you know,
they doing cool stuff all over town, man.
You know how that goes.
We just, you know, we're not as,
we're not as young as we used to be,
but we used to, we used to hit all those spots
and all those Latin spots.
Trust me, those Latin spots helped me become.
Oh Jesus Christ.
A comic.
Fuck yeah.
Because they were, they were the most plentiful
out here in Southern California.
Right.
Do they still exist?
Are they still the same?
Man, they still, you know what?
No, I still, I mean, I still do stuff with Robert Zapata,
Sebastian, you know, I haven't done something
for Rudy at a minute, but yeah.
I mean, you know, God, I mean, how many times, you know,
I haven't spoke to him in a minute,
but Rick Martinez, God, I used to do shit with him.
I used to do two, three joints with him a week.
Is he still around?
I think he kind of, I don't, I don't,
I heard from him.
I heard from him.
From time to time on a Saturday night.
Yeah, you know.
He does something from time to time.
Look, man, God bless, you know,
God bless those Latin dudes that was hustling.
No, no, no.
They was hustling so that we could, you know,
you talk about when, you trust me, like you said,
when shit was low.
Yeah, man.
You need that fit.
That was cash money.
You need that 75.
And these guys would have 40.
Yeah, that's that money, that's that money you put
in the gas to get back the fuck to LA.
They would have 40, 50 people there.
Dude, that's showing Whittier.
I used to do a bowling alley.
Whittier, or Hamra, L.E.
Bowling alley in Whittier.
Fucking, I mean, you name it people.
You know what I'm saying?
And I was used to get from kid to play
in a bowling alley in Whittier.
Sunday through Thursday, every fucking week.
And I'ma do it.
You were out there doing two Mexican gigs.
It didn't matter.
And you drive anywhere, Lee.
Tortillas.
Tortillas, we get stoned.
We see Felipe, Willie Garcia.
We see fucking people every goddamn week.
And then you end up either at the improv, the store.
It was just fucking a different,
you know, and I wish, I wish at times
I still had the stamina.
It is.
You're right about that.
You're right about that.
Five nights a week.
You're right about that.
You know what it is?
But guess what, you know what you do?
We gotta take advantage of it.
Like, you know, I like on the lift, the Uber tip.
Like, you know what I'm saying?
Cause we don't gotta drive no more.
You know what I'm saying?
But you're right.
Even that, you still, it's hard to have the energy.
Cause you used to hit, like, come on now.
You used to hit like four, five spots a night.
Like a, I remember a guy like Jeff Garcia
used to tell me like how many spots he hit a night.
Like spots, spots, spots, spots, spots, spots.
But, you know, we're not 32 no more.
Look at it.
I'm fucking yours already.
And I got eight hours of sleep last night.
Yeah.
I got eight hours of sleep last night.
I can't do it no more every fucking night.
Yeah.
I worked, yeah.
No, I went to bed at one.
Yeah, I got up at fucking eight.
That wasn't bad last night.
Doug, I'm happy you came on.
I'm happy you're going on tour.
And I'm happy you're still in the fucking game.
I would say this, yeah.
I would say this cats that are interested in catching
kid and play doing our thing is kid and play.
We're still doing a lot of those.
I love the nineties dates.
And then it's like, I love the nineties
and I love the nineties.
The party continues.
I think we're at the Greek.
We're at the Greek in July with TLC and Genuine
and a bunch of other groups.
So, you know, it's been real cool, man.
Like, you know, we're, you know,
we're glad to still be doing it.
I don't see how many girls now, just two.
Yeah, he's too big.
And they're keeping it together on stage.
Yeah, yeah.
We did a show with them a few months ago,
like up north at a casino, you know, and they, you know,
they got like dancers and all kinds of things, you know,
the kind of, you know, you know,
why we love the party.
Yeah, you know what I'm saying?
Then, you know, they're missing important property.
You know, they got video aspect to it and whatever, whatever.
So I would say this.
I think, you know, if you, if you love,
if you love the group TLC,
then you should come check it because, you know,
if you love the music, you're going to love the music.
And then, you know, they pay homage to, to left eye.
You know what I'm saying?
In a way, you know what I'm saying?
What are you laughing at?
You can't laugh at that.
Your timing is like number one.
Your timing is terrible.
I'm laughing at Lee.
And number two, I can see the star creeping up on you.
You might as well take another bite.
You know what I'm saying?
It's all over.
It's like that. Who sang that song?
Let me sing.
Who sang that song?
Well, they did a couple of different ones.
Mary J. Blythe did one.
Yeah. You probably thinking of Mary J. Blythe.
Don't really matter.
Cause I can see it.
I'm going down.
Oh Jesus, where's D and W when you need them?
This would be a duet.
I'm going down.
A duet?
A duet.
Cause you ain't around.
Baby.
My home.
You got some, you got some, you got some read to read.
I got to read two.
W-N-E-W news.
We got Joy Diaz off.
Listen, the quicker we do this, the quicker we do this,
the quicker we're out of here.
Tozzy, you understand me?
So you're pulling Lee.
What's going on with that?
Don't act like you don't remember that.
Lee, what's going on with that last star?
What is he, an orphan?
He's an orphan tonight.
He's out of the bag already.
He's hiding him shit.
We're putting him back in the bag.
Lee, you're at 800 milligrams.
I don't even want to squeal on him, but he's-
You got to eat three or four more.
I have flail wear.
No, I know you got to eat that last one, but I got it.
No, it don't.
Yes, you got me fucked up.
Lee, what is the problem tonight?
I'm too high.
Why are you flaking?
There's what we do.
What are you gonna do Wednesday night
when Gomez comes on here
and he wants to break your record and break,
you got to eat, you're going to have to eat
2,500 milligrams on Wednesday.
You're going to need some fake gummy.
We'll see what the star first on.
That's how it happens.
Star one for fucking hooking us up tomorrow.
You understand me, Lee?
You don't have to eat fucking 2,500 milligrams
on Wednesday night.
Are you prepared for this?
I'm trying to prepare it.
No, we're not prepared for that.
You think I'm a bad guy here.
You got like four more stars to eat
just to put you in that level
to prepare you for Wednesday night here.
I'm just trying to help you out.
I appreciate it.
You do what you need to do,
but I would eat that last up.
There's about six.
What?
There's about six or seven more in here.
You could eat those down in two fucking handfuls.
Look, I got my star.
I'll take fucking three or four more.
No!
What do you think?
I'm a fucking half a fucking soldier here?
Shit, look, I smelled this.
When you smell the bag, it says tell Lee to eat this.
I smelled it.
There's an unfortunate here.
It punched me in the nose.
All right, number one,
you know I love you motherfuckers always, okay?
You got two options.
I didn't know what was going on with me,
but I gotta be honest with you.

Let me explain something to your people.
MBT Watch, MVMT Watches was founded on the belief
that the style shouldn't break the bank, okay?
The watchmaker's goal is to change
the way the consumers think about the fashion
by offering high quality, minimalistic products
at a revolutionary price.
With over a million watches sold,
a million to customers in 160 countries around the world,
MBMT Watches has solidified itself
as the world's fastest growing watch company, all right?
Lee loves his watch.
I've seen people compliment Lee on his black watch.
It is beautiful.
It is beautiful.
No problems at all.
It's still ticking.
It feels good on him.
He enjoys it.
People compliment him.
What are you gonna do?
And this is how you get started, all right?
This is a company designed by two broke college kids
that wanted to wear stylish watches
but couldn't afford them.
So they started their own watch company.
And this is, they started with grassroots.
So it's just like us.
You know what I'm saying?
YouTube, podcast, radio, et cetera.
This is what I'm gonna do for you.
Movement watches start at $95.
Now, these same watches,
the department store you're looking at for the 500 bucks.
Movement figured out that by selling online,
they were able to cut out the middleman
and retail market, providing the best possible price.
You got classic designs, you got quality construction,
and you got styled minimalism.
Over one million watches sold in over 160 countries, okay?
This is what I'm gonna do today.
Right now, I'm gonna give you 15% off
with free shipping and free returns
by going to mvmtwatches.com slash church, C-H-U-R-C-H.
Again, mvmtwatches.com slash church.

and if any problem, free returns
and they'll send it right back to you.
Anyway, mvmtwatches.com slash joey.
I wanna thank mvmt.

Johnny fucking Singer.

From Bronx, New York.
And I wanna thank my little Jewish fucking hammer.
That's over there.
Leave a Jew is all for you.
He will do what he has to do.
Don't forget, I'll see you motherfuckers Thursday night.
That's the original song.
Eight o'clock.
Ice house.
Working out $10 one hour.

You're not doing dick memorial.
Come see Cocoa.
Start your party.
I'm in love with the Cocoa.
Oh Jesus Christ.
Why don't you go out on that song?
I love you motherfuckers.

Awesome Gap.
Awesome Gap.
Oh, it's good.

I'm in love with the Cocoa.
I'm in love with the Cocoa.
I'm in love with the Cocoa.
I'm in love with the Cocoa.
I'm in love with the Cocoa.

It's great, Jesus.
You're looking for more.
Step on the dance floor.
Check your coat and your trombones at the door.
Cuz for sure, you're gonna see a smile today.
The problems of the world seem miles away.
The only thing that matters is a good time.
That can be had with the help of a good run.
The DJ's hype more than up to par
Uh-oh, there goes a cutie at the bar
So I stroll on over to say hi
And tell her I'm the PLA guy
And wish you like to dance a while
I'll do anything to see you smile, you see
My job is to take you higher
After a couple of songs, I'll be quiet
Having fun while I ain't done
The best is yet to come
Ain't gonna hurt nobody
With a dance ball
Ain't gonna hurt nobody
Out there on the floor
Ain't gonna hurt nobody
The best is yet to come
Ain't gonna hurt nobody
Out there on the floor
Ain't gonna hurt nobody
Out there on the floor
Oh yes, yes, yes
The music's hype, then if it's alright with you, I wouldn't mind spending the rest of the night with you
No kiddin' babe, we can make some noise, you and your girls, and me and my boys
Just feelin' right tonight, feel the pleasure, we can take it slow with no pressure, no respect
You won't regret, this'll be a night you won't soon forget
And that's a promise from me and you, take my hand, girl, I'mma see you through
You don't strike me as a woman at once, here's your chance
You only live once, I wanna hear you say, oh what a blast, kid
We shall have good fun while it lasts, too, hang out with friends, hit the skins
Next week we're gonna do it again, again, again
Ain't nobody gonna hurt you, ain't nobody, ain't nobody
Ain't nobody gonna hurt you, ain't nobody
Ain't nobody gonna hurt you, ain't nobody, ain't nobody
I'll stay on the floor, ain't nobody gonna hurt you, ain't nobody
Ain't nobody gonna hurt you, ain't nobody, ain't nobody
I'll stay on the floor, ain't nobody gonna hurt you, ain't nobody
Ain't nobody gonna hurt you, ain't nobody
Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah
Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah
Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah
