Starting point is 00:00:00 okay so it looks like i have the intro which i was totally ready for this time absolutely prepared to do episode uh 420 of the um podcast the unpaid and underrated podcast the podcast about the Lift Hard Live Easy, for the Lift Hard Live Easy, and by the Lift Hard Live Easy. So crew, I am being joined. I'm going to allow you guys to all identify yourselves, introduce yourselves. If you want to explain who you are, why you're here, that's also fine, instead of me just picking and choosing. So why don't we start? So that was Big Joey, and I'm Big Keith, and choosing. So why don't we start? So that was big Joey and I'm big Keith and next man.
Starting point is 00:00:47 Did I say that? Yeah. You didn't say who you were whatsoever. Oh yeah. Oh, I I've been here before. People should know. Fuck. Sorry. It's already off to a banger start. I'm big Mo I'm here. Uh, cause I'm the poor man scants and scants was busy. His, uh, retirement schedule is,
Starting point is 00:01:08 uh, too booked up. So you got the, uh, second fiddle. So I have to interject real quick. Mo shaved since Saturday and he looks 14 years old. Like,
Starting point is 00:01:17 I don't know if it's the, if it's my bad bandwidth, but Mo literally looks like a teenager at the moment. Big Jeff? This is... Oh, sorry. Too late. Big David, the British one, in case you hadn't detected that. That was
Starting point is 00:01:35 kind of my line this whole weekend. Introducing myself as the British one. Not really needing to do that. I'm here because this was... The meet we just got back from was an international meet right three countries represented so we've got all of those three countries represented tonight and this is big jeff arguably uh well no as far as i know the second furthest travel to aberdeen has the crow flies behind big scans. Hey, I got a question.
Starting point is 00:02:06 When you put your pin in the map, David, what did you do? Did you do the UK or did you do the California? I did California. I considered putting it in the wall, you know, six feet away from the pin. Over by the York dumbbells? Yeah. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:02:23 I didn't want uh trying to lose his trying to lose the deposit that was i actually planned on putting a canadian pin in but steve and sandy beat me and put in just a regular pin and i was like my canadian pin won't fit now so i had to clock in a millimeter below them because in the, um, the, what do you call it? The program, they actually listed Steve as Hamilton,
Starting point is 00:02:49 Ontario, and me as Mount hope, Ontario, which while technically true, we are an amalgamation. So we're both from Hamilton, but because the program put me at Mount hope, I was like,
Starting point is 00:03:00 I've earned my own pin. Fuck that. Tanner, don't take it down. There was, there was a little bit of debate last week. You don't like, you know, docs yourself, but like, are've earned my own pin. Fuck that. Tanner, don't take it down. There was a little bit of debate last week. You don't have to, like, you know, dox yourself. But, like, are you above or below Steve?
Starting point is 00:03:10 I couldn't remember. Like, geographically. Below. Yeah, yeah, yeah. So I'm south of Steve. Okay. So I might actually be north. Because the question posed last week was, who's farther north, me or you?
Starting point is 00:03:21 And if you're actually south of Steve, then I might have you beat them. I'm literally 20 minutes south of Steve, though. Yeah, so. Yeah. As the crow flies. That's a good sentence. Just quick, what's everybody having to drink while we're on here? I'm going to have a delicious Waterloo Black Cherry.
Starting point is 00:03:40 I had one of these at Tanner's house. They're fabulous in the UNU koozie. Nate? Nice. Got the I had one of these at Tanner's house. They're fabulous in the you and you koozie. Nate. Nice. Got the, uh, Sam Adams, just the haze.
Starting point is 00:03:51 That's the spirit. David. I've got, got a Kirkland brand lemon sparkling water to start. And then I have a few, uh, few in reserve, a couple of crispy boys.
Starting point is 00:04:02 I got the strong and silly, uh, koozie because I really want to work on my grip strength. And then a backup coke and water. I'm still living easy. So I've got a good old McUltra and the Chris Damager special
Starting point is 00:04:20 you and you koozie. I have a Keith's because I was drinking on I've been nursing this thing back to health for the past hour um but i think i morgan has a thing where she puts coolers together for me so i actually don't know what's in there but i think there's a specialty um water that we are out of backs probably we were out at a farmer's market and she was like i'm gonna put this in your cooler and go okay okay um okay yeah speaking of still living easy the comedown is hard anybody else feel that like i i wish i could say i've stopped partying
Starting point is 00:04:53 but like at least three of the nights that i've been back two of those nights i'm still living a little too easy like i'm waking up and going oh still dude like but you're still on vacation though aren't you oh yeah until like the fourth i'm not i'm not doing no work i actually had to go to work today to shop and i just walked by actually i wore my medal and i just walked around like just putting my medal up to all the employees you're like i got gold i got gold um uh but then they were like oh can we i just want to ask you a question i're like, I got gold, I got gold. But then they were like, oh, can we, I just want to ask you a question. I'm like, no, no. All questions are directed
Starting point is 00:05:29 towards the guys employed right now. I'm on vacation. We're not doing that. So yeah, I do appreciate my team for really giving me the, they actually didn't talk to me about work at all. Just the one guy was like, oh, somebody called in,
Starting point is 00:05:42 you have to fix their schedule. I was like, okay. So I just need to like, I them um what what's the word like recognizing my personal space that's fucking awesome uh what are you wearing i've got my said oh go ahead i was saying leading up to the event it was like the week of thanksgiving you didn't want to work you get everything done but now it's like the days after christmas everybody's posting their recaps and and you know all the comments everything and you just want to keep going back and seeing what's next so yeah not easy to get back to the back to the grind no for sure for sure anybody else um feeling the field the the letdown the come down uh i flew i flew back monday
Starting point is 00:06:23 morning and i was straight back to work at 9 a.m monday so i really had a chance to to really calm down that means to calm down but not not to think about it that would force it a that would force you to be like okay like putting like i'm back and i'm ready and since you have 24 hours to sit and and of decompress, it's going to just be like, you're going to melt. I was, I had the easiest travel, two and a half hours, but I was right back to work on Monday, but only had three days in the office and back at a hotel tonight for my daughter's softball. So kind of, kind of a quick turnaround, but a short week too. Well, we'll definitely talk travel at some point because I think everybody has something to say about that.
Starting point is 00:07:13 It was easy. I don't know what you guys are talking about. Shut up. So I've got my Dodzilla shirt on in reverence to the first Hall of Famer to hit 15. Also just a hell of a guy. And I kind of knew going in that he was going to be awesome. But, you know, he did not let me down as a person, as a personality.
Starting point is 00:07:35 Scott Dodds is genuinely well deserving of his number one spot, even though he did try to kill me at Pounders. Same. He goes, I love picking up people that don't normally get picked up i was like no i'm small i get picked up sometimes like that my brothers are all bigger than me they just don't squeeze me that hard like i thought my sternum was gonna pop out of my throat like it just but i got better pretty quickly because i'm not weak. Yeah. He got me in the parking lot, leaving mass domics gym or before pounders. I think maybe going into the,
Starting point is 00:08:09 either going in or leaving and, but, oh, and it like was so off guard too. Like I didn't know he was there. And the next day I know like I'm airborne and fucking my legs, little, you know,
Starting point is 00:08:18 flailing around. But he was so excited. Like, and I watched him do it to like 10 people that weekend. And I swear he fucking got a hard on every time I did. It was great. I was, I was selling it like Jeff Hardy.
Starting point is 00:08:28 Cause as soon as he picked me up, I went, is this Dodds? And I think somebody went, and it was like, yeah. So I just started flailing my legs around like a rag doll. I saw that.
Starting point is 00:08:40 Yeah. That was, uh, to continue what we're wearing. I got the, uh, the, the,
Starting point is 00:08:44 the crew, uh, shirt, uh, on rocking that, but I wasn't wearing. I got the crew shirt on rocking that. But I wasn't wearing the meat shirt this morning or this afternoon, but it's a little sweaty from the long press. Yeah, I've got the meat shirt on. I haven't taken it off since I spilled coffee on myself in the car ride on the way to Sioux Falls. You sure did. Had to change in the parking lot. I'm still waiting for the email from them telling me that I don't get my deposit back on that car, Jeff.
Starting point is 00:09:07 Smells better than when we picked it up. I've got the meat tea. Meat tea. I'm pointing with Jeff. I don't know what blank this is on, but it's a little small, actually. I'll have to investigate the blank. I've got the squats tea with the, uh, the meat shorts, the squat shorts as well.
Starting point is 00:09:28 Cause, uh, that was my, uh, lagging lift from the meat. So trying to get some good vibes out there for next year already. So yeah, those, those shorts, I, I, I'm not proud of it, but I haven't taken them off. I take them off to sleep and I put them back on in the morning these are top I have a bunch of 5 inch inseam shorts they're still not as good and as comfortable as these and then everybody was talking about how their significant other
Starting point is 00:09:57 was going to steal them so I was like Morgan go try those on and she's like they won't fit over my hips and she puts them on and she's like don't leave these unattended and I was like see I knew it if the boys are listening And she's like, they won't fit over my hips. And she puts them on. She's like, don't leave these unattended. And I was like, see, I knew it. So, yeah, you know, if the boys are listening, definitely need some more of these. Yeah, I think that's going to be their blank going forward. They're just going to, I mean, we'll have, I think we're going to have a lot of different stuff on that short or a variation of that short going forward.
Starting point is 00:10:21 Yeah, I'm for it. I'm brave for it. Okay. short going forward yeah i'm for it okay um so instead of rating last week's massonomics episode because i haven't listened to it yet i think i want to get to the predictions uh from our episode of last week which i also haven't listened to um but at least i have the notes and that's kind of more important you spent so much time in a goddamn airport by yourself and you didn't listen to either of those episodes well the one episode didn't uh come out yet right so that's the major problem there oh oh ours didn't yeah you're right yeah so um i tried
Starting point is 00:10:57 to listen to it but honestly listen to a podcast in an airport is impossible right because i didn't actually spend that much time in the airport i landed and ran to get something to eat because i hadn't eaten all day since i had qdoba um by the way way unpaid i don't think i'd do qdoba again my hands and beard smelled like qdobu for hours and it was just not pleasant um but well again we'll get to travel because I was the last, I think to leave, um, just based on being stupid. So here's the ones that I have in black because it looks like Nate was nice enough to, uh, color code these. So will Joey do a backflip?
Starting point is 00:11:38 Who, uh, who got the answer to that one? Me, I did a backflip. I absolutely did. Um, Bryce was just ragging on me. Go do a backflip, go do a backflip i absolutely did um bryce was just ragging on me go do a backflip go do a backflip and then he was the only one that didn't watch um jan recorded a very very good video of it and i appreciate that that's up there on my reel for the weekend recap that i did um i actually did a pretty good one too like i i made air i almost overshot it and did a pretty good one too. Like I, I made air, I almost overshot it and did a four 50 and that would have been hilarious, but okay. So will there be a pickup basketball game?
Starting point is 00:12:13 There was not. No. Did the kids get any basketball or was it, was it no, there might've been basketball being played, but I think unless it involved a crew member, it only gets counts. Yeah. I think these are crew questions.
Starting point is 00:12:28 Fair. Over, under, on fulfillment center tours. Hands up if you've had one. Yeah, buddy. So there was no fulfillment center tours, and in fact, there wasn't any last year. But it was because my friend Big Steve steve we'll get to in a second last year forgot to pack an extra shirt so we he was like can i buy a shirt and tanner was like oh yeah we'll have the booth tomorrow and steve was like i kind of need it for tomorrow so we got me
Starting point is 00:12:58 ryan and steve got an accidental fulfillment center tour and um living with the burden of what i know has almost crushed me i can tell you right now there are things i i am aware of that i am not allowed to speak of and it is the the the crown is heavy uh-huh uh big scants uh you might say he got got a got a tour uh since he did his reveal in there oh i was here i wonder if he's if he knows the things i know because i knew about the slides right i got a picture with the slides last year um before they were released and then when they were announced ryan put up my picture which is me just hammered laying on the slides like you could tell i was drunk because i wasn't competing last year right so i didn't give a shit let's go okay so mosquito bites received uh i don't know the numbers they picked but they weren't that bad at tanner so um
Starting point is 00:13:57 good work mary tanner and the township of aberdeen they were not that bad there yeah they were every other yeah i feel like every other restaurant outside was horrible the zoo outside of the zoo like i sat down uh with you know a group of guys at the zoo uh there saturday and they're like here here's some bug spray like i'm gonna be out here for like two minutes i'm just doing my goodbye tour or i mean like a little bit and yeah two minutes like literally 30 seconds and i had like four mosquitoes on me so i actually i still lathered up with the bug spray all drunk and shit and then sat out there for like 10 minutes and yeah,
Starting point is 00:14:27 it was really bad. Yeah, we were out there. Sorry. No, you're good. I'm done. We were out there early in the night there at the zoo and we came in. They drove us inside. It was bad. It was bad there. But yeah, I didn't think they were bad
Starting point is 00:14:43 in Tanner's backyard at all. After the rain, right? I think on Sunday we had, Saturday or Sunday, we had just like a good rain. And me and the other gingers walked over to Buffalo Wild Wings right by the fairfield. We got just demolished. As soon as we stepped on any grass grass we were covered in mosquitoes and flies um but i'm a pretty hairy person and mosquitoes don't like hairy people because they can't get through your hair so i didn't get bit that much but ryan uh big ryan jacked a ginger he was eaten alive
Starting point is 00:15:16 is that when i saw you guys when i was streaking across the street no that was that was no because that was thursday right uh i wasn't there thursday i don't know okay then it was friday no that was friday yeah that was friday yep that was friday no that we were on our that was our first trip i think all in all me and at least me and matt made about six trips to buffalo wild wings because it's the closest thing with like consistent food we're not going to go to that weird Mexican place. Matt could show up to Buffalo Wild Wings, but not here, huh? They got wings and booze.
Starting point is 00:15:53 We don't. I got some fucking booze. That's true. The next one was shots of fireball taken by Lou. And you fucks gaslit me into telling me that he wasn't coming and made me feel stupid. And I kind of definitely got it confused with the Arnold. That was, uh, I was so sure he said he was coming, but not competing. And then you guys were like, who's not even going to be there. And I was like, what?
Starting point is 00:16:17 Um, I did three, I think. Uh, and one Yager, which I have a video of. Scott Dodds took the video. But it was actually Braden, the meat and muscles, that brought an entire cooler of bush light, and he must have had 50 of those fireballs.
Starting point is 00:16:40 I was there, I think, when you took the Jager, and Braden, he was so surprised he's like jaeger what i don't drink yeah i drink fireball buddy there's no difference there's just a blank this is the same blank yeah that's a good joke actually that's a really good job i like it so i think um shots of fireball taken by lou had to have been 10 to 15 i don't think i saw lou sober i mean i maybe didn't see lou till like late morning but i think lou uh was very living easy the whole time i saw him i talked to him
Starting point is 00:17:20 briefly at the zoo in the bathroom and he was pretty tuned up. I know it was like right when we got there. I think the prediction ended up changing because they didn't think he was going to be there. So it was just fireball shots in general. It was just fireball shots in general. We're adjacent to
Starting point is 00:17:40 all these. It's close enough. Well, also B-dubs there. I know we'll talk about travel at some point but their featured shot was fireball it was cheaper than all the other shots so at some point i was just like fine i'll buy around fuck it let's go like it it was definitely a fireball heavy weekend in in aberdeen uh anybody else want to talk about Fireball or moving on? Moving on. Moving on.
Starting point is 00:18:07 Times Grant says okay. I didn't hear too many, honestly. It definitely was less than what he benched in kilos or pounds, I feel. We haven't opened it up to the amount of times anyone says okay. I'm going to be set. I don't even know if I said it
Starting point is 00:18:23 at all. I said it so many times. i heard it quite a few times but uh you know i i can i was also in his group kind of yeah i there we go yep there's the okay podcast i came back from the bathroom and yeah our cousin podcast and um i just see him filming i think with um i wish i could remember who that was honor no no he was filming with two of us two of the crew members um that were hanging out with us i think it was george no it was c poppy george yeah c poppy george and i want to say derrick and if i'm wrong i'm sorry and I just see Grant filming and I come walking up and then he puts his camera in my face and I just freeze and go okay but apparently that's what they were doing so I kind of just like walked in and was like I'm just gonna
Starting point is 00:19:15 do okay and hope it goes well but yes that is what they were doing but definitely okay got thrown around a lot it's really fun to say in that silly voice okay i uh i i almost said it a few times when grant uh wanted to jump in on deadlift i was the opener in our first round of deadlift and i was all ready to go i'd already taken uh taken a snort and was about ready to go out to the platform and they they were holding it up because he wanted to jump in he was going to originally be bench only and uh and then he decided he wanted to deadlift so they were trying to scroll through and to add him and it took like five minutes and i'm getting antsy and getting mad and i'm figuring this out and i was like okay okay but it was all good. It was my opener. It was all good. Okay.
Starting point is 00:20:07 So then we had the who will win the Massanomics Awards. So this is probably a good time for a little bit of a recap. So most injured. I didn't actually catch who that went to. Big Quinn. Yeah. Yeah. Coming off like multiple hip surgeries or knee replacement something
Starting point is 00:20:25 yeah i think hip replacement yeah i think it was double hip replacement a couple years ago yeah i was coming back again from the washroom and that's actually how i got my award i was in the bathroom talking to somebody and i just heard big joey and i was like oh and i came fucking barreling across the od ice arena and i went to go shake his hand. And he made me do that. He's like, too sweet. I was like, yeah, too sweet,
Starting point is 00:20:47 brother. Okay. Silliest goose went to Jack and ginger. Uh, yeah, buddy. Yeah. One of the gingers,
Starting point is 00:20:53 we were going to take something, uh, strongest couple got robbed. I do think it should have been me and Keith. Uh, for sure. Yep. But that's okay.
Starting point is 00:21:03 I understand nepotism is frowned upon so the sister podcast can't win things i mean yeah that's true but it definitely went to like oh but uh some some non-crew gym members so that was gym members yeah that's kind of nepotism too everyone's like who now number one in our hearts yep maybe they'll come in and start listening now because they won that award uh b Brian's choice went to Big Jess Sesney, who we will be getting on this podcast at some point. She's in the backlog.
Starting point is 00:21:32 No, I added her. Check the dates, buddy. I added like 15 names. Then you're responsible for sending them the links. Okay. That was too perfect. She's such a big Taylor Swift fan. That was too perfect. She's such a big, uh,
Starting point is 00:21:46 such a big Taylor Swift fan. That was, that was too perfect of an award. She changed her handle to the Brian's, uh, Brian's version. Yeah. And I was like, that's so funny.
Starting point is 00:21:54 Uh, she was a great help. Tons of fun, uh, kept her sense of humor. Didn't stress under anything, had spreadsheets to rival even Keith. Um,
Starting point is 00:22:04 so yeah, it was, uh so definitely definitely think jess deserved that for whatever sorry jessard yeah jess i think i called her jen at some point in the meet and then like i've turned around and was like that's not jen what the fuck so if you're listening jess i'm sorry i did feel stupid immediately but wasn't going to interrupt you to tell you that. And Best Package, who did that end up going to? Seth, I think. Yes. From Strongman.
Starting point is 00:22:33 Jake's little brother. Who finally joined crew after the meet. Yeah, like almost immediately after. Yep. It's his prize for winning. I'm in the group. Here's a $3 bill a month. A three- the group. Here's a $3 bill of money. A three-year membership.
Starting point is 00:22:47 Here's a $3 bill of money. Good work. So I have a question about the most injured award for the group. Controversial topic, but is the Ryan curse broken? Yeah, I didn't get hurt. I didn't get hurt.
Starting point is 00:23:04 More importantly. Yeah, he didn't either. He was a bench press start to finish did he have a first grip bench too it looked like i'm pretty sure he did first grip yeah and i was like damn oh i i didn't see him lift i didn't i didn't realize that he ended up actually the next day dead lifting more than his third attempt yes i was there at the gym when he was doing that i couldn't believe it i probably hang out with that dude um more than most of us because he he does work up here so we just sometimes meet up when he's up here and yeah that man has slept on his strength he is a very strong and capable lifter and he just like hit it us. Like he just slid in and was like,
Starting point is 00:23:46 just, I'm just going to throw your opener up. Right. And you're just like, what? Um, so Nathan's secret strongman project turned out to be the app. I don't know if any of you guys caught that,
Starting point is 00:24:02 that entire app that they used where they were counting reps and announcing names. Um, I don't do a lot of strong man, but from what I understand, that's new. Nobody's ever seen that or done that before. Could have never seen that.
Starting point is 00:24:15 I've never seen that. I like pro shows, right? It was a chance live, uh, in London the week before left, hard, live easy.
Starting point is 00:24:23 They don't have, they don't have something like that. They have an LCD display on the floor. That's the first Strongman show I've ever been to, so I just kind of assumed it was that way. It's all downhill from now, Nate. Just listening
Starting point is 00:24:42 to that on the podcast, then hearing about that, that he made that that's that's pretty sweet yeah he snuck in the unpaid and underrated logo he snuck in the keith's head um he had the massonomics logo in there and uh yeah like it was one of those things i took for granted while i was there and then heard about it later and i was like no that's not normal why isn't it so you know it looks like, just more work for people putting on the show. Like not everyone has like as many volunteers, most like local strongman shows have like barely enough people to kind of get the bar loaded.
Starting point is 00:25:14 And that's about it. Well, hopefully this app cuts down on some of that work. Cause all you're doing is literally sitting there counting reps, but it does sound like it was a huge success. So congrats on a technically a guy big nate and hopefully that goes a bit global i look forward to hearing you sell that to uh brian shaw will grant hit a 380 bench did anybody get that he missed his uh i know he missed his third because he i think i think whatever weight he hit it was like i don't know if he hit 380 or not but he
Starting point is 00:25:42 definitely jumped the commands on his third bench uh so he like physically pressed it but jumped his commands i don't know if it was 360 or 380 or whatever but uh definitely red lights across the board for not listening to commands yeah that's the commands always get you there's a lot of a lot of a lot of guys got uh you know a taste of power lifting and oh shit i gotta i gotta wait for all these commands or you know this bar is heavier than it is at home kind of thing yep i uh yeah i got my third bench and was just excited and that would have been a meet pr and just forgot to wait for the rack command so yeah it happens play by the rules and i let you borrow my fucking wrist straps and that's that and that's what you do with them mo you miss okay on technical technicalities hey i got it i got excited i had a pr there and oh the best part
Starting point is 00:26:30 uh i'm gonna tell you i'm old without being old or without telling you i'm old is i i knew i had my wrist wraps and i was gonna give you a shout out thanks for letting me use those i looked all the way through my bag and whatever. I forgot to pack them. I was like, what in the world? And after the meet, where were they? They were in my bag. Rookie move.
Starting point is 00:26:54 I was nervous and couldn't find my wraps. You're good, brother. That's fine. It's always nice to know 80% of the people competing because you can always borrow some shit. Appreciate it. All right. Well, that is going to conclude what I want to give out based on the predictions um so uh keith what's the next little subject you want to go into buddy oh we got so much to talk about um can we throw
Starting point is 00:27:18 throw out our thanks to jen and murph because i think you added that and i'm not sure what yeah yeah i did uh so well big murph gave both of us a super spicy drink uh i could not drink it jack and ginger drank mine after about one sip and it was uh i don't know man it was very peppery i guess if you will it was very it was a jalapeno i think it was jalapeno ranch water. It was, it was, it was, I can't do hot. I can't do hot, but yeah, I can, but I also did not want to shit myself lifting. So I was like, I drank about half of it. And then I think Sandy tried to sip Sandy also, um,
Starting point is 00:27:57 like black pepper is too spicy for her. So she took a sip and then like had a coughing fit and like cried for a second. And that was pretty funny. Cause we're like, don't don't. And she's like, what?'s like what i can handle it and no no she couldn't but it was it was a good dream so thanks murph for that so murph gave us that and then i got big jen get me a nice little care package with some beef jerky i think and a uh cliff bar and a orange free i couldn't i can't remember if it's pre or probiotic but one of those you know a
Starting point is 00:28:23 sparkling water and she's like here here, this is for the podcast. I'm like, I don't have a checked bag, so I'm going to have to drink this tonight. So I think I smashed that before we went out to dinner after the meet. And it was piping hot. I could tell it must have been in our car all day or something because it was about 97 degrees. I appreciate you, ladies. I didn't get mine from Jen. She actually messaged me and said, sorry, I didn't get that to you. She actually messaged me and said,
Starting point is 00:28:46 sorry, I didn't get that to you. Looks like you'll have to get it in the mail. So I don't mind getting stuff in the mail. It's always fun. Unless a little dopamine hit when a package shows up and you don't know what's in it. That'll be fun in three months when it shows up. Once Carol gets hold of it.
Starting point is 00:29:02 So I guess we can just kind of go in chronological order to some extent and then just kind of let the conversation flow. But as far as travel getting in, I had a decent time. No issues, really. Met up with big. Me and Chris flew out. We ended up meeting Jeff in Chicago and then getting into Sioux Falls and then driving down. One thing of note on the drive down, I was actually getting some shit about this for my my my co-writers there
Starting point is 00:29:25 the signs in uh north dakota south south dakota that is they're so fucking low like like your road signs like the side of the road like billboard signs saying like next exit this this is the town like the post they're sitting on are like in at least 50 shorter than what i'm used to in upstate New York, Tommy. But it's just weird. It just blew me away. And I made multiple comments on it to the point that Jeff and Chris were kind of roasting me pretty early into the trip.
Starting point is 00:29:55 But it blew me away. It didn't make sense. It almost was harder to see them. Even when I was driving, I caught myself having to almost look down or look over down or look over that, like look over and then down from the steering wheel. It was very strange and I don't understand it. So I don't know. As Mo, someone living there, is that anything that you notice when you go to other states of like, huh, these fucking signs are really high? No, I can't say I remember that, but I've never been to New York, upstate, downstate, or east or west.
Starting point is 00:30:29 But are you talking like you have them over the road? I mean, ours are on the side, and I guess I think they're normal. They're just like the ones that are on the side. Mine would just be like instead of it being like six foot of post, they're like at like eight to 10, 12 foot of post. And it was just, I don't know. It's completely irrelevant. But I just thought it was funny because it was like every single one. And I'm like, I don't understand.
Starting point is 00:30:54 I really don't understand. But that was the first time really driving through South Dakota because last time we just flew into Aberdeen. I didn't really see anything of Sioux Falls or that journey between. But just so fucking flat. Like there was at one point we were looking at the windmills and I'm like, I don't know if those are 500 yards away or four miles away. Cause I could see that far. I had no perception of how far away that is, which is really weird. Cause like I'm surrounded like up here, there's like,
Starting point is 00:31:18 there's woods everywhere on the side of the road. So you can't really see very far. And if you can, it's like, it ends up like you see until there's a mountain and then you just see the mountain. So it's very strange to just be able to like, see until you can't really see very far and if you can it's like it ends up like you see until there's a mountain and then you just see the mountain so it's very strange to just be able to like see until you can't see anymore that's how we get that Dakota breeze yeah that makes sense
Starting point is 00:31:34 that was a good breeze speaking of breeze it was fucking hot in the ODI Serena yeah like I almost wanted to make a meme where it's like they thank you for saving my life and then it's just my neck fan when that thing died about halfway through strongman i really realized how much it was doing and that's when i was just like oh yeah that thing
Starting point is 00:31:56 was really making the difference here at least the rain hit at that point and the temperature dropped a little bit i don't think if that rain didn't come in about a quarter of the way through Strongman, I might have fucking died, man. I was hurting. I was hurting so bad. It was so hot. We were so sweaty. It was such a long day. So, you know, it was bad.
Starting point is 00:32:15 So to me, I didn't compete last year. So I didn't think it was that bad because we had had some really hot and humid days before that. So I was, I didn't compete last year and I was sitting by the fan. So I don't know how did, like, I guess, Keith, you competed both, which was worse this year or last year? Last year was like RP 9.5. This year was like RP like 8.9. It wasn't, it wasn't much less, but it was just a sea hair less hot. I definitely thought last year was.
Starting point is 00:32:48 Twice as long as a day, though. I competed this year and didn't compete last year, and I think last year was more uncomfortable. Yeah. Because they also quadrupled the fans. I think we went from having one fan to having four or five, right?
Starting point is 00:33:03 I think that made a huge difference, too. Yeah, you five right i think that that made a huge difference too yeah you're right yeah neck fan made a huge difference uh david you've been pretty quiet how was your uh how was your heat yeah yeah yeah it was kind of uh it's kind of rough i think i think you saw it in maybe that's what impacted the log performances. I feel like we were all down, you know, one 20-pound jump than where we thought we were going to be. It was kind of consistent across all of us almost. So yeah, maybe once that rain hit and it cooled down just a little bit, you didn't see that maybe so much on the rest of the event.
Starting point is 00:33:41 But yeah, definitely sitting around, you know around most of the day in that heat. I was searching out those fans. I couldn't stand by that before we competed. Yeah. It's funny. It's hot for sure. I know I give everybody shit about complaining about the heat. I will continue to do so. It was definitely
Starting point is 00:34:02 hotter than I thought it would be. I've done three different powerlifting meets before all down here in florida and that's about what they're like in august for me like that that was very hot and that's like a typical meet for me um you know you're sweating like crazy by the end and it got very hot as you went higher up in the arena i was watching the strongman show from the seats for a while, just the first row of seats. And I couldn't take it. I wound up going down to the first floor where it was a lot cooler. So I don't know.
Starting point is 00:34:31 I don't know what the airflow is like in there, if they just don't have any AC or the place is too big to cool or what. The hockey arena. How do they not have AC? That's what I'm saying. Isn't that place, you know, 65 degrees during a. They just fill the floor with water and like build the rink and then i'm sure it's just a floor chiller it's not like there it's not like a forced air hvac system like has anything to do with keeping the ice ice i wouldn't imagine
Starting point is 00:34:52 it's all got to be like some internal either in the floor or i don't know like something that just only keeps the ice ice not really the building i think that's just a guess i think that every crew is going to go have to increase their membership to the lift shorts level if they're going to pay to to cool that down next year i think it's actually pretty hot right now too when morgan came in it's because i texted her and i was like can you please turn the air up the guy i'm sweltering right now in the the dilf dungeon studios um travel delays let's keep it short because we all had them well a couple of us had them um i'll start uh every flight was delayed uh i think the flight in was actually way more inconvenient uh because i left my house at 3 30 in the morning and was supposed to
Starting point is 00:35:47 land by 8 p.m. and I don't think I landed until like 10 or something like like 9 or something like that every flight was delayed and it turned out that I ended up just living in MSP airport for eight hours because the flight from Toronto to MSsp is two hours so we landed at yeah something like 8 30 and then it just kept getting delayed and delayed and delayed at some point i was searching out a cot because i was just so bloody tired um and then the flight out of aberdeen got delayed an hour and a half. And I was already telling Nate that, um,
Starting point is 00:36:30 the kid behind the counter, great kid, nice kid, nothing against them. So like, if it sounds like I'm ragging on him, I'm not. And he's like,
Starting point is 00:36:38 I see him making an announcement and I walk up and I was like, I assume that was about me. And he's like, what's your name? And I tell him, he's like, yeah, you're going to miss your connecting flight. And and I was like, I assume that was about me. And he's like, what's your name? And I tell him, he's like, yeah, you're going to miss your connecting flight. And then I was like, then get me on the next one. And he's like, the next one is 8 p.m. tomorrow, the same flight out of MSP. And I was like, then get me on another airline.
Starting point is 00:36:58 And he said, all the other airlines are protecting their seats from Delta because only Delta is having this many issues. And then I said, well, then who's going to pay for the hotel? And he said, because their weather delays, nobody will pay for your hotel. And I said, well, then how aren't other airlines experiencing delays if it's weather and it's only you? And then I said, you know what, delays if it's weather and it's only you. And then I said, you know what, what do I do? And he says, you can cancel your flight out of MSP to Toronto and rebook on Air Canada at eight tomorrow morning. And I went, you know what? You guys have been delayed all day. I'm going to gamble and bet you're going to delay the flight to Toronto. Sure enough, two hours in the back at MSP, um, all the restaurants close at 10 and I landed at like nine 30. So, uh, I think the, um, I ended up getting like a little bit of food
Starting point is 00:37:54 at Buffalo wild wings in the fucking airport. Cause like I said, in the discord, I I've got stock in Buffalo wild wings at this rate. So I had a beer there and a, and, and some deep fried cheese curds and then ran to my flight to find it was delayed. I ran into my first airport, Karen. That was pretty fun. This woman was losing her mind at the young lady behind the counter over a wheelchair. Um, I kind of stood up and I was about to intervene. And then Morgan was kind of like, you should just walk away.
Starting point is 00:38:23 Cause like, if you watch more, you're going to say something to this lady. So you should just leave. And I was like, yep, that's very fair. I should just go to the bathroom or something. But nope, I ended up landing. I think I finally got home at 3.30 in the morning. So it was officially exactly five days. Left my house at 3.30 in the morning.
Starting point is 00:38:43 Five days later, arrived at 3.30 in the morning five days later arrived at 3 30 in the morning so that was a long trip the hardest part i think was i booked the afternoon flight out of aberdeen and everybody else booked the 5 a.m flight interestingly i still think i landed before some of them i think i got before some of those folks But killing time in Aberdeen. Oh, that was, that was rough. Cause I don't want to get drunk. Cause I got to drive home. I don't want to like sit at the hotel lobby in the air conditioning, like an idiot.
Starting point is 00:39:15 They would not extend my checkout time. And we can go over that version of the terrible service I received at the Fairfield, but we don't have to. But yeah. version of the terrible service i refused i received at the fairfield but we don't have to um but yeah so i just like walked to cutoba and i went and visited brock the rock and i it's like i should have just saw a movie or something like i if i knew my station casinos uh we talked so many fucking casinos yeah so many i was giving tommy a hard time with that but that definitely my travel was um not as good as some of yours but not as bad as maybe sam's or the damny's um whatever they went through and you know i was even saying that delay from msp to toronto i sat there looking at all these grumpy angry tired and annoyed people and i, no, this delay is getting me home.
Starting point is 00:40:09 I am happy we are delayed because I'm going to get home on time, like the same day. Right. And it was that perspective where it's just like, sometimes you just got to look at it that way. Like, you know, you're mad because you've been sitting here for four hours. Well, I'm very happy to be sitting here for two hours cause I'm going to get on a flight and go home. Right.
Starting point is 00:40:28 And that's my travel itinerary. Uh, eight like shit. Saturn actually. We're on the flight back to Toronto and they're going up and down the aisles. And, uh, she's like,
Starting point is 00:40:42 would you like a Coke, Pepsi, coffee, or some chips? And I was like, I'd have a whiskey if you had one and she goes oh yeah and she slides me a whiskey I go to get my
Starting point is 00:40:49 card and she's like nah and I was like I actually said to her you know what probably not enough people have been nice to you today I'm gonna tell you this little act of kindness might have made my delta trip worth like so much better today and she goes it is hard out there and she hands me a second one.
Starting point is 00:41:08 That's good stuff. Yeah. You know, I was going to appreciate people, especially if they're going through a bad time, right? Like these Delta employees, you can just see them checked out.
Starting point is 00:41:16 They're so sick of being yelled at. So sick to being talked down to. And I was just like, no, I'm going to be polite. And I got free whiskey. That's not the reason to be polite, but rewards for being polite are nice. Yeah, I got pretty lucky.
Starting point is 00:41:31 Like last year, my flight home took my travels home last year was like 22 hours or some bullshit from like leaving Aberdeen to point into my driveway this year. 11 hours, pretty much. 11 hours pretty much. That was the difference between not waiting for the Aberdeen Puddle Jumper to MSP, just driving three hours to Sioux Falls, and just fucking eating the rental car and the time invested in the
Starting point is 00:41:53 drive. So I think that's the move going forward, probably, at least for me. I definitely don't want to do the MSP to Aberdeen drive like a lot of the Cessnys have been doing, but I don't know. A five-hour drive is a lot harder as well than a three hour drive. But, uh, it was great for me. I know Jeff got stuck in Dallas.
Starting point is 00:42:11 I think we got stuck in Sioux Falls for about an hour and a half. Okay. That's really it. Yeah. So I don't have much interesting to say on the travel other than having to leave my house at four 15 in the morning to get there and leave Aberdeen at 6 in the morning to get out. Be lucky. You know, the advantage of flying out of somewhere like Sioux Falls is you've got a variety of airlines.
Starting point is 00:42:32 I was lucky not to be on Delta, but certainly for all the folks that left out of Aberdeen. I mean, that flight gets delayed or that flight gets canned. Not a whole lot of recourse. I had a really, really tough time traveling back. I mean, it was, I'm old, so I've got a small bladder. So I had to stop and go to the bathroom. And so the drive took, you know, two hours and 15 minutes instead of two hours and 10. It was brutal.
Starting point is 00:43:01 I could go in and drive at night, right? Yeah, you know. Yeah, you're not allowed and drive at night, right? Yeah, you know. You're not allowed to drive at night, right? I'm barely allowed to drive during the day. Definitely not at night. What about you, one of the Davids? Yeah, I did not have any problems. Sun Country Airlines from San Francisco to MSP and then
Starting point is 00:43:25 I did the five hour drive. I don't like connecting flights stress me out. So yeah, a five hour drive rather than a I think it was going to be a three hour layover and then a one hour flight or whatever. You got in pretty late
Starting point is 00:43:41 Thursday, didn't you? Pounders. You kind of rolled in like literally right when we were like not necessarily getting dicked out yeah like 9 something like that it was an hour or two maybe behind the Cessnas you do recommend the 5 hour MSP drive if you're coming in
Starting point is 00:43:58 I mean it's predictable that's the thing it's a little bit longer maybe you know best case but worst case it's you know you're still going to worst case it's, you know, you're still going to be there in five hours. What you guys just witnessed there was I tried that water I alluded to earlier. It is just God awful. It was lemon and it was, no, it was honey lemon.
Starting point is 00:44:18 And I was pretty excited for it. And I took that first sip and it was, Oh, that was just awful. That's why I messaged Morgan's like, come get this. This is the worst. It has 11 grams of sugar. Which is pretty wild. Yeah, like I'm not. I don't want that at 930 at night. I'm not normally not afraid of sugars, but oh, I took that first sip and it was like.
Starting point is 00:44:41 Hicked in the face. We can touch on pounders. Go either way. What's that? Jeff said something. I'm going to have to take it in the face. We can touch on Pounders a little bit if we want. What's that? Jeff said something. I just said Honey can go either way. It's very volatile.
Starting point is 00:44:54 Well, that one did not go the right way. Speaking of very volatile, I think the Pounders staff might not want us back next year, at least some of them. Our server was super not happy with us whatsoever. Um, I was hitting it with like a Tanner, Grayson,
Starting point is 00:45:10 Hannah, a couple other guys. Ah, fuck dude. She was so like, get the fuck out of my section, go home. Like, why are you still here?
Starting point is 00:45:18 Pay your bill. Just very upset. Uh, I don't know how everyone else's servers were, but she was super not chill with us. Uh, it was, uh, but all in all pounders was great. Uh, I don't, I don't know how everyone else's servers were, but she was super not chill with us. It was, but all in all, Pounders was great. I don't think my sticker, my Keith Head sticker lasted more than the night.
Starting point is 00:45:31 I was taken down immediately. I was going to unpaid. So I didn't, I didn't have, I didn't, I didn't pocket my unpaid or underrated stickers that particular night. But I had a Keith Head sticker in my wallet because it was like my running joke of my Keith Head sticker was my ID. And then I had to waste it for the pounders mirror, but it was, uh, it was well worth it. Cause I think I had a few people share the story of it. So, uh, but pounders is great. Um, we saw the gym first. I got a ride back with, uh, we drove, I rode with Tanner and Mary's truck from the gym over to pounders. That was pretty cool. That was a very fun ride, like very, uh,
Starting point is 00:46:04 very old vehicle. Uh, but it was pretty cool to write, to write in that. And I think Dodds got a sick picture of us in the back and it's already been made into a couple of memes. that because i think tanner told them we were coming i think tanner said like by the way like there's a hundred of us we're we are coming on thursday night we will be trickling in between seven and nine and we are all gonna eat all gonna drink we're gonna have fun and um i think that like i there's a weird thing that i noticed in Aberdeen. I didn't experience it anywhere else on my flights or travels is they just want you out of there. Right. So at some point they came up and they're like, you got to pay up.
Starting point is 00:46:52 And I was like, yeah, no problem. And like, if I have another one, I'll just get it directly from the bartender at your staff. I understand staffing is expensive and all that. But I,
Starting point is 00:46:59 I think the, I want to say the Friday, um, I was like, not going to do anything. I i said i'm just not doing anything today until tanners and then i get a message it's like oh we're at b-dubs and i was like okay i'll come over to b-dubs and i come in and i sit down and matt ryan derrick maybe brad like everybody was already there as soon as i down, she gives them all their bills.
Starting point is 00:47:27 And at first I think it was Damien, Chris was like, oh, she must be leaving for the day. She just wants us to cash out under her. No, that was not the thing. So finally he goes, hey, I want another drink. And she's like, oh, okay, I'll go reprint your bill. So she gives him his drink and reprints the bill. And she kept doing that to everybody at the table. And I was just like, yeah, like that is so, no,
Starting point is 00:47:57 like your job is to sell more so that we tip you more because tipping is a percentage. So if you sell me another beer, you will make a higher tip. You should come up and say, Hey, would you like another one? Not here's bill get out and it's not like we were loud or rowdy they weren't even busy it was so i think
Starting point is 00:48:10 that like what you experienced at pounders where we kind of felt like you were being rushed out i think that's just kind of standard there is the like just get them their bill and leave like maybe people are impatient and they're not used to people like us they're like no we're gonna drink five beers and three shots and have a pound of wings like maybe they just weren't ready for that kind of thing because i think yeah that happened to me there that happened the only place it didn't happen was circus and who joined did any of you guys join me at circus on the sunday no that that was on our way home that was the best experience we went over there sunday afternoon and um you know he's we're trying to find seats and this guy walks up and he goes i got a whole other room that'll fit all of you so we go flooding into this back room which is a casino
Starting point is 00:48:59 and like that dude he was like so where are like are you guys from? We told him we're here for the Masonomics podcast. And he goes, I think I might know one of them. What are their names? We told Tommy. And we were all asking about the double dipped wings. And he actually came up and he's like, you know what they haven't told you? He slides Murph garlic parm, dried garlic parm. And he goes, throw this on it.
Starting point is 00:49:27 You'll see. Sure enough, she was like, like this is the best so we found the hack for circus double-dip wings which is ask for the dried garlic parm to go on top and he yeah that service was incredible he was bringing us pitchers and drinks and what pitchers of water and yes like that was the exact opposite of everything else um the morning breakfast at millstone right yeah she was great that was top tier yes she was awesome yeah she was on her game yeah she pretty much waited on like majority of us too and there was i think i counted one more there was 30 some of us uh yeah to get back to founders a little bit there so david when you got there at nine o'clock it was probably like there was at least 30 of us there. So how was that walking in from only ever meeting in person,
Starting point is 00:50:09 a couple of crew out in California, like strongman shows, I think maybe, and then walking into just 30 fucking crew members where you probably recognized at least 20 of them by face and then knew the other 20 were probably still crew just by their shirts. How was, give me a rundown on that. It is, I think, I think 30 of them were selling it. It is strange walking into a room where you know everyone, but you've never met them before. Right. Like, yeah, I,
Starting point is 00:50:36 I basically recognize everyone. You know, there are a couple of, a couple of people who either their face isn't there, isn't their avatar or haven't seen a lot of posts by them or something like like uh big chad was one of those where it took me a couple seconds but most people i knew i knew right away having never met anyone so it's it's kind of definitely surreal uh surreal experience but it it was really cool. It was just no intros needed, no small talk needed, just straight to
Starting point is 00:51:12 business, but the business in this case is living easy. How did it feel meeting Nordstrom Big David david the the server from buffalo wild wings oh yeah i didn't i didn't get to meet him uh i don't really see the resemblance i thought it was just funny like there was there you go there was like a 10 resemblance and i was just is that big david and we just ran with that shit that was and he was our server he was a he was our server. He was less than attentive. What about you, Jeff? It's the same kind of thing.
Starting point is 00:51:51 You were with us. There was a pretty good group of us at the gym Thursday night before we even went to Pounders. I mean, there was at least 20 of us. And that's what was cool. I feel like multiple times over the weekend between Thursday and Friday, there were a couple instances where there was 20, 30, 40 people in the gym. So I guess your first interaction with a large group, how did that go? Yeah, big crowd at the gym. It was great. Kind of like David said, all these people that you know in some form you've talked to, it's almost like you'd seen reels of them as they were sort of preparing to make the same journey as you. It's of funny in that way but um yeah i mean it's just good to you know shake some hands and again meet people
Starting point is 00:52:29 turn some of these people that i knew online into you know people i know in real life now so everybody's you know everybody's very much like they are online in person i'd say for the most part. A few people surprised me. Height is deceptive. I guess maybe it's a function of lifting a JSON, but there are some body types that I knew were fairly extreme, but in person
Starting point is 00:53:01 are even more so. Do you want to name drops? Is it about Dodds? Dodds has no neck. Dodds goes shoulder into ears. Stop stealing my joke, you fucks. Tanner fucking stole that goddamn like a half hour after I said it too.
Starting point is 00:53:19 Little fucker. Well, the first thing I said to Tanner, I saw him at the gym and he walked in and the first thing I said to him was, man, you're bigger than you are in real life or something like that and that's the smallest i've ever seen tanner too like if you like when that tanner maybe like what two years ago he was probably 30 pounds heavier that's right he had to make huge but i'm just saying yeah he did he i think he barely made weight too by the skin of his teeth you know yeah if if there was if there was a reason that he
Starting point is 00:53:46 needed to cut weight for, which we're still not sure about. Yeah, if something can. Yeah. So yeah, the ones that surprised me, the ones that jumped to mind are Grayson, the width and the proportion of Grayson, and also Scantz, actually.
Starting point is 00:54:02 Grayson is... I hope Grayson takes this as a compliment grayson is pretty much built like a shorter johnny bravo like he is a triangle he's a triangle of a man and that's awesome um see poppy right he's fucking yoked yeah like he's my weight class and he tripled me or something stupid like that on all the lifts dude like yeah i didn't like 50 or some shit yeah i didn't expect to see that he's impressive um i kind of already knew like because i was here last year and i go to the arnold so a lot of these people i've already kind of was aware of but i've never i don't think um because last year i don't
Starting point is 00:54:41 think i really knew who grayson was right so last year was kind of my introduction to a lot of people. This year was my reintroduction, which was awesome. But yeah, Grayson's just a triangle of a young man. But yeah, everybody's kind of like, they're all big dudes. Actually, I think when we showed up for breakfast at Millstones, it was either Millstones or Pounders. We came walking in and they just pointed to where we were all sitting. And I think I said,
Starting point is 00:55:05 it's our shoulders, isn't it? She was like, yeah, because everybody just has big, wide, like I'm a tiny guy, but like my shoulders are still kind of big and wide.
Starting point is 00:55:14 Right. So I was just like, it's the shoulders, isn't it? She's like, yeah, just go, just go sit down.
Starting point is 00:55:19 Yeah. That was funny. When we walked in, we got the same, the same thing. She just pointed for me i i kind of had seen everybody too but uh i didn't get to meet uh big chad until i felt bad on sunday i didn't realize it was him and then at the gym he used himself and i i had seen him but i didn't realize it was him
Starting point is 00:55:42 a lot of misconnections there's a lot of people i wish i talked to more some people i hung out with a lot more than i than i planned to which had no complaints me and the gingers and matt shared a car for most of the trip i love steve and sandy but i see them every couple of weeks so i was like i didn't you know we're roommates together we live together but like i'm gonna spend most of my time seeing the people i only get to see once or twice a year and uh yeah definitely some misconnections on there i think the real misconnection was not getting big uh john roy's son part of the ginger picture at big tanner's friday he would have been his son's like four months old and he's huge oh god it looks
Starting point is 00:56:27 just fucking like him too like he does except he's a ginger i think i even dm'd him about it it was like there's no way like there's no there's no question if that's your kid or not because the fucking face is just identical to what he looks like but uh we can just kind of keep keep going chronological so uh anyone just hop in with uh your first experience walking into the od friday if it was your first experience, you know, the booth, seeing the meet set up, you know, seeing even more people because that was more overwhelming than pounders just because that's when it like there was probably double the amount of people, but maybe only half or three quarter recruits. You kind of just filter between who's just locals way in for the meet and who's actually the people you want to talk to. But anyone just jump in on your, your, your, your way in slash Friday,
Starting point is 00:57:08 Friday morning activities. Jeff, I'll chime in on the, I'll chime in on the OD. And I'm not a big, like in the moment, emotional, you know,
Starting point is 00:57:16 kind of person. It was definitely cool. It was definitely a great venue. And two things I'll say about it, which are probably more Saturday related. It's awesome to have that much room to warm up in and spread out in. I've been in some of these meets that are in a sweet storefront, and it's just tiny. There's no room for anything, so that's awesome. I walked into the Odie on Saturday is when the butterflies hit. Everything was pretty much business
Starting point is 00:57:46 as usual. You open the door to that big arena, everything's set up, all the racks and all the equipment that Mini Action Jesus had for the streaming and everything. And that's when he was kind of like, oh man, this is the real deal. Put up or shut up. All right, great.
Starting point is 00:58:01 Go ahead. So yeah, Friday, walking in Fridayiday getting weighed uh seeing big jake again yeah i've seen a few people but yeah definitely there were there were definitely more more non-crew friday and then i'll see them this saturday too so uh still cool though still cool though well on weigh-ins on weigh-ins i um i went in early for weigh-ins i made weight by a couple kilograms which is nice because sometimes i worry because i always come in at i enter at 75 but i hover just like at 74 so i was like nope i'm gonna do the thing where you know don't eat have a couple drinks and then drink a ton of water to get it out of me. So I cut and I made it.
Starting point is 00:58:48 And then for the afternoon weigh-ins, I was like, guys, let's go join weigh-ins. Because we had to drive Matt anyway. I was like, let's just go, like, terrorize the place. Let's just go be absolute what? Matt was so drunk and hungover that he didn't go to fucking Friday morning weigh-ins. So, no. Who doesn't weigh in in the morning? No.
Starting point is 00:59:10 What happened was they messaged him. He fucking slept in. Yeah. That's right. I remember. And then he came down and we were already gone. Yeah. He was like four minutes late from when he was drunk.
Starting point is 00:59:20 So he told me that he did that on purpose. He was just not showing up to you just like he does on the podcast yeah i mean that's that's a standard behavior for him hey shows up when he's supposed to so i'm like here i am i'll like let's just go and terrorize like let's just have fun i'll make some content let's go and just be the gingers you saw that picture we got with trey while dave was uh testing the fireworks i was like dave just let us know before you do the next one he's like okay five second countdown then all four of us posed in front of the flames like that was like yeah let's go have some fun yeah that was pretty
Starting point is 00:59:53 sick instead i was like well i literally just learned how to use this rack so i'm gonna help people weigh in and get their rack heights so here i was saying i'm gonna go and be a menace no i'm gonna go and be helpful and then j No, I'm going to go and be helpful. And then Jake from State Farm shows up with his little girl and she's overwhelmed. Or like, she just came in
Starting point is 01:00:11 and then I was like, hey, I have a new friend. So I just took her away from Jake and his wife. And I was like, let's just go have some fun. And we were like helping people do their rack heights
Starting point is 01:00:20 and stuff like that. I think I saw some of that Saturday too. Oh yeah. Just me and her walking around. Yeah. Oh yeah. She loved me that's that but again yeah sometimes when people show up with kids and you know they might be overwhelmed too you gotta help so instead of being a menace i was helpful and and polite which uh so don't expect everyone to get a chance to uh did everyone get a chance to make it to the billboard yep i know we had we had a pretty bit a fair amount of us there at one point uh did you make it to the billboard? Yep. We had a fair amount of us there at one point. Did you make it to the billboard there, Big David?
Starting point is 01:00:50 Yep. I made it over there. I got a nice couple's picture there with Big Brad. Brad the Pad. The fucking meme. Was that you that made the fucking meme? That was so great.
Starting point is 01:01:05 That's fucking great. My wife saw that meme and didn't understand it. And I had to like deep like explain to her. And then she's like, oh, that is funny. I was like, yeah, it's fucking hysterical. It was a very underrated meme. Yep. I sat there right next to him at breakfast.
Starting point is 01:01:20 Oh, yeah. That was even better. I didn't say a word. That's great. So, yeah. Yeah, I made it Didn't say a word. That's great. So, yeah, yeah, I made it out to the billboard. That's good. Yeah, I think Friday we did a lot of, you know, checking the boxes of all the different sites around Aberdeen,
Starting point is 01:01:37 so that was good to check those out. Nice. Nice. Well, before we get into Friday night at Tanner's, I think Big Jeff wants to hit us with an ad read. Has ever happen to you you sign up for a powerlifting meet just to show up and find out none of your internet friends are there next when you're all done lifting hard there's hardly any beer around to get the living easy started worst of all after sitting through awards for all 25 first place lifters you find out there aren't any awards for things like best package
Starting point is 01:02:03 silliest goose or even brian's award, say goodbye to the same old powerlifting meets and say hello to the Massanomics Lift Hard Lift Easy Classic 3. Located in beautiful Aberdeen, South Dakota, the hub city, the hub of what we're not quite sure, the Lift Hard Lift Easy Classic is not your father's powerlifting. Hosting lifters from over 19 states and arguably from three countries, hosted by a team at the xpc midwest there is no better place to turn online friends into friends irl and to turn weeks and weeks of chicken bakes into pr live travel in and out of aberdeen is easy and we're happy to report
Starting point is 01:02:36 that most of our lift hard live easy two lifters have now made it home but before you go don't forget to stop by key points of interest like the Massanomics Gym, Twins Massanomics and Strength Kill Billboards, and the Zoo. Just don't get stuck on Brock the Rock. That's the Massanomics Liptard Live Easy Classic 3 coming soon, probably most likely in late July 2025. Incredible. Good work. Nice. I had muted myself, and then I started laughing, and then I was like, no, we need to hear the laughter. Yeah, you got me good on that one.
Starting point is 01:03:05 Good work. That was good. Well done. Well done. Uh, let's, uh, roll it into a Friday night.
Starting point is 01:03:12 Anyone has anything to say about Tanner's in general? I mean, it was, uh, bigger than last year. Uh, more people definitely. Like if you look at the group photo,
Starting point is 01:03:19 like I didn't, I don't think the, it was, I don't think I had the perspective that there was that many more people because I think last year we were, we that there was that many more people. Because I think last year we were all so new that maybe like – we'll call it 75 to 100 people last year. You know, probably closer to 75. It was pretty overwhelming as shit.
Starting point is 01:03:40 But then looking at the picture from last year versus this picture, it's like 30%, 40% more people were in that picture from this year. So I don't think I – I think that shows how much I guess I've grown that like i'm not as overwhelmed by that big of a crowd but uh yeah it was great i fucking tried to talk to everyone but clearly there's probably like 20 30 people i didn't even get like there's literally impossible there's people i don't think i talked to at all but i talked to on instagram regularly and i feel like a douche that i didn't get a chance to really talk to them uh so if you're listening and that's one of you i'm sorry i will uh see you next year and you know we'll get you on the podcast for too long but uh friday anyone sorry. I will see you next year. And, you know, we'll get you on the podcast for too long. But Friday, anyone, what do you got? See you next Tanner's party.
Starting point is 01:04:11 It's almost like, you know, I hate to say it. Like we need a booth at Tanner's party. We're just like me and you just like. I never felt such like a douche, but at one point I knew I hadn't got pictures with anyone. So I like stood in a circle or there was like a bunch of dudes around and I was just, I grabbed pictures and I was just like, I had people just come up to me and take pictures.
Starting point is 01:04:33 Like I yelled at you. All right. Yeah. You made, I'm pretty sure you made fun of me. Cause me and Bryce were talking and you just walked in, leaned on him, took a selfie.
Starting point is 01:04:42 And then I was like, fucking ask dude. Like some, maybe some people don't want to take silly selfies. Like, Oh, I've got so many drunk pictures of the Bryce. It's okay. I know. So me and the gingers were planning our outfits pretty much since last year.
Starting point is 01:04:57 And we had a group chat going where we were going to wear the crew shirt designed by Morgan. You're wearing one right now. We had agreed to cut the sleeves off but ryan couldn't get a hold of scissors and he wasn't able to but uh yeah we showed up in matching outfits because the gingers jokes was just going way too hard um we did make that stupid video that i think matt posted whereas you can fit so many fucking gingers in this car and he slaps the roof and then all three of us climbed out uh that was pretty
Starting point is 01:05:25 funny yeah that was i think i came up with that and i was just like we got to do this this is the stupidest thing i've thought of in months um yeah yeah i gotta say there's so many people i didn't get to talk to um interestingly you said i don't know who professor shand is but um uh i actually walked right up to him anyone is yeah i was like so how many people have recognized you and he was like not enough and i was like good or bad he's like i'm all right with it um so that was pretty funny what else like i did the backflip people kept bugging me and bugging me and bugging me then i did it anyway like i just went and did it um but yeah i don't i i don't remember much because it's just so overwhelming all right there's just so much happening so many people talking to you so many
Starting point is 01:06:14 so many drinks being handed to you try this try this try this and you're just like at some point i sat with steven sandy and was like just hide me for a second which will come up again um i had i had the worst fucking sparkling water there uh what was it mo i think it was was it the mojito jeff is that what it was that was so bad that was horrendous i left mine in the hotel fridge i forgot to drink it the uh having the port-a-john was definitely like clutch i don't know if anyone saw because it kind of was happening during the party but i did a uh road to the to the to the tanner or slift hard live easy port-a-john story or whatever i just did a little quick stupid reel and there's as soon as it was like one of the first people to use it there's piss everywhere i'm like i got like like five
Starting point is 01:06:56 minutes into the party there's piss all over the floor so yeah i did miss out on food um i did miss on the food i didn't have there. But it's because we had eaten so much during the day, and I don't want to gloss over our day together on Friday, Keith, but maybe we'll get to that. But I'm sure, I don't know, I'd be interested to have the sandwiches and the scotcheroos where I didn't get to have any. Oh, I also didn't have scotch root. Damn it. But I don't eat sweets in general. I had one scotch root. I was very happy. It was, it was, uh, well, cause last year the food was kind of like, there might be some food, there might not be some food. So like, I just planned on eating like an early-ish dinner and then like kind of nibbling
Starting point is 01:07:35 at Tanner's, but we ended up having a later dinner because of the fucking, you know, I don't know how to look at hours at a restaurant apparently. Cause who the fuck closes for like an hour and a half during the day when they open up at 11? Like, that's just fucking weird, but whatever. But it did get us to Taco John's for a quick bite, too, which was, you know, mediocre. Yeah, Keith, Big Chris and I and Spicy Pizza spent the day eating. Ate at Millstone.
Starting point is 01:07:58 Ate at Taco John's when we found out the Italian restaurant closed for break. Then we went to the Italian restaurant. I guess that was it. That's a thing read 2 000 calorie meals that's the thing with italian restaurants though is that like do you guys not is that i'm not it's not unheard of i think that's what they do like they open up for lunch and then they close to prepare for dinner it just caught me off guard usually i just look like okay cool they're open at 11 sweet and I didn't bother to look that they fucking closed from like 1.30 to 3.30 or something I'm like motherfucker
Starting point is 01:08:29 maybe that's the secret we were trying to eat an early dinner maybe that's the secret to having the best chicken parm there is the secret's out of the bag that was the fucking worst chicken parm in my life I was so disappointed it was a goddamn 9 out of 10 last year.
Starting point is 01:08:45 It was like a fucking 4 this year. I'm like, you motherfuckers. I've been talking this fucking meal up for over a year on this fucking podcast and in person and shit, and you motherfuckers just completely shit the bed. It was making me look like a fucking ass. I bet Jen fucking called him and said, serve this fat fuck the shittiest chicken parm you can find just to make him look like an asshole.
Starting point is 01:09:04 I bet that's what fucking happened because it was night and day different from what I ate there last year. I was so disappointed. So as a complete side note, I'm not going to mention names, but there is somebody that was bragging about their Keith impression all weekend. And after that little tirade you just went on, it's bang on. and after that little tirade you just went on it's bang on and literally the impression is just fucking fuckers fuck fucking fuckers fucking fuck fuck like i was like i don't see it but i'm gonna laugh along and now you literally just made it real oh you motherfucker i want to hear it who did like i'm not gonna get mad i don't know who it is though all right yeah it's jacked and ginger he just he was just like every time you came up he'd be like
Starting point is 01:09:49 fucking fucking fuckers fuck and we're like oh yeah that's keith and i was like i don't really see it and then you just did it that's great i think um i uh ryan had a little uh he'll have a little soft he'll have a place in my heart going forward because it kind of – I had a slight little inner circle Masonomics moment when I had Tommy ask for my advice on who should win one of the awards. And I threw out a couple names, and they ended up going with Jack and Ginger. So if you're listening, buddy, you owe me 6.9% of that award. Boo. Okay. Anything else on Tanner's party we want to touch on?
Starting point is 01:10:20 Boo. Okay. Anything else on Tanner's party we want to touch on? I'm just going to mention my shirt I had made for four months. That was fucking great. Yep. I had that head and I had probably five or six people come up to me and they're like, oh, I just thought that was the power lift.
Starting point is 01:10:42 So I was pretty proud of that that was uh that was right that was for anyone not there i didn't see it he had a he had a scant knockoff shirt of the powerlifting uh world record holder shirt and it was fucking great like the same like body and text and everything just with different words did different words basically uh can you read it out anybody nope okay i didn't memorize it Obviously we'll give you a second. Uh, yeah. Hell of a time.
Starting point is 01:11:08 Honestly, like you mentioned, I've been to a few powerlifting meets. I'm going to volunteer to another one. And I just don't think it'll ever be the same because of the Tanner's party. I think Tanner throwing that party, having his family there. That's incredible too.
Starting point is 01:11:22 Like we got to, you know, Mary was there and the kids were there and it was definitely it's a different experience for a powerlifting meet and if you weren't there this year and you were kind of like bummed about it you should be and hopefully next year you're there to experience this utterly insane version of strength competition it's just not the same as all the other ones there's like the big the closest thing to an influencer was keith right you go to these other powerlifting meets and there's people that are just like hiding in the corner taking their stupid videos
Starting point is 01:11:55 they've got like a camera crew and you're like buddy it's like an unsanctioned yeah you're gonna you're gonna deadlift 200 pounds like calm down calm down. And there's just no egos, I think, which makes this whole thing awesome. Right? That was also... Yeah, that was also just me killing time for Nate to pull up his shirt.
Starting point is 01:12:18 Appreciate it. I don't think... It's loading up here. It's awesome. It was exceptional uh exceptional fashion on show i know uh i know tannic kind of joked it was a fashion show that that friday night but but it really was it really was yeah and then the jacket got handed out to to scott you know um it's really cool that our sister podcast told our idea for the jackets. Yeah, I commented that on initially.
Starting point is 01:12:47 What are you talking about? We did a fucking record breaker fucking windbreaker shirt like four months ago, which was a jacket awarded to someone for doing something cool. I'm like, what the fuck? I thought that was great, but that was better than the challenge coin they were going to do.
Starting point is 01:13:02 I poked a Tanner at the gym on sunday when we were all kind of just sitting around shooting this shit and he was just like you know like we we thought there would be more so getting a hundred coins printed was so expensive or we can just do one-off custom jackets i was like oh it's good thing you got the podcast that feeds you ideas for jackets he started laughing he's like yeah all right i got you there that's funny the one funny thing about that was like i know they're all three pretty big dudes but none of those jackets fucking fit they were all looked like they were wearing like chris farley fucking shmediums oh yeah yeah we were we were joking about actually what did tanner say he was
Starting point is 01:13:40 like we joked about scott cutting the sleeves off but i don't know if he was joking say he was like we joked about scott cutting the sleeves off but i don't know if he was joking all right nate what does your shirt say go ahead read that out uh to poor man's scants just like the power lifting record holder and then uh smaller text underneath not as old strong tall good looking creative cool quick-witted or as many injuries but i do have a better meat stick with the canadian to u.s conversion rate and not having to deal with carol stream it may be a wash and then on the back it says i am the tango charlie to scantz's massonomics i didn't even see the back that's that's that takes it to a whole nother level um while we're talking about shirts real quick too like one thing i'll harken back on is
Starting point is 01:14:30 i'd never it was so amazing to see it was mainly thursday i mean they were sprinkled in uh friday and saturday but i feel like like there were 10 people wearing unpaid or underrated shirts at the fucking pounders and at the airport and shit like that was so fucking surreal like that was it was um it was the fucking one of the coolest things i've ever experienced as like a crew slash podcast host whatever the fuck like that was fucking awesome so thank you for everyone that bought that shirt and wore it like collectively yeah i make the joke that like there's the crew and then there's the crewmanati and we're like this we're like the sub level of crew that like really get it and those are the ones that bought unpaid underrated shirts that's also a marketing tactic so don't like hold me to that but like i just think that there's like
Starting point is 01:15:14 there is there's that next level of like yeah i'm a massonomics fan but then there's like no i'm such a fan i bought an unpaid underrated shirt and and to, and to me, like, I think that's, yeah, it was pretty amazing. I remember at the airport, everybody just strolling in and I'm wearing just a sleeveless Scott Dodge shirt. And I was just like,
Starting point is 01:15:32 you got to put on my shirt now. Cause I like everybody else was wearing them. And that's, yeah. When I wore mine, it was really cool. And thanks to everybody for that. I wore mine for the meat.
Starting point is 01:15:43 It had the perfect red and I wore the, I wore the beard. I was, I actually had a Santa hat that I was going to wear for my, uh, for my deadlift. And I forgot it at the hotel. Nailed it.
Starting point is 01:15:57 Are you sure? Are you sure? I'm sure it wasn't in your gym bag or next to your fucking wrist straps. It was, it wasn't, it wasn't my bag, but it was my bag at the hotel right next to
Starting point is 01:16:06 uh yeah gotcha was it his bag yep all right if we're uh okay with uh recapping the tanners party i think we can move on to the meat itself if you guys want to go into that um i did some lifts i had some fun it was hot as shit i don't have much else to say for some reason when my brain thinks about this weekend uh lifting is the last thing on my mind and uh i know at some point like i think it was during it was right when deadlift started i must have got my second win or i can blame build fast formula for feeding me the drugs so there's there's a thing in in america that's banned in canada and it's not dm aa i think it's dm so dm aa is banned in canada but dmea nate would no more jack nate um is what
Starting point is 01:17:04 they use so it's just close enough that Canada's like, we're not going to let you in here. So I drank that thanks to the Build Fast Formula Fairy Gen Damager. I just walked up and they were giving out samples and I was like, can I buy a bottle, like a shaker for that?
Starting point is 01:17:20 And that's when I think Abby was like, fuck it, give out bottles. Just give out bottles and pray go make some so nice must have been when the second second wind kicked in because i was walking around doing the monkey walk i don't know if you guys have seen my monkey walk it's it's pretty much based off of planet of the apes or you roll your shoulders back and you walk like a monkey and i was just strong strong strong and i was screaming at poor tyler hints for tyler she was just so happy to be there and i'm screaming i didn't talk to her at all uh i think she was dodging a little bit um not in a way that like she didn't want to talk to anybody but i just
Starting point is 01:17:58 think she's a low-key human yeah she was in the zone because i think she left before a war she definitely didn't say for the power lifting because she didn't get her award, I don't believe. Yeah, she... I'm glad she competed. She definitely had it pulled out and then jumped back in there right at the end. So it was cool to get more crew competing for sure, always. Yeah, I was just going a little crazy back there being silly, silly ascoost to the best of my abilities. And I might have, again, did the same thing I always do.
Starting point is 01:18:23 I think if Murph turned to me, she's like, you're a fucking menace in a good way like you're keeping energy up but you are being a silly human right now and that's actually all I remember from the lifting that was my favorite part of the meet is having all the people around me and having been a strength coach for a lot of years, you know, getting to hype, hype people up and be the hype man and everything. So, um, lifting with, uh, with big Kevin and big Andrew, um, big George and, uh, uh, Andy, I think that was his first power lifting meet and, and helping him. And, you know, that was, that was just fun. And then going over and yelling at Scantz you're not dead yet old man you're not dead yet old man
Starting point is 01:19:10 that was my favorite yeah when Scantz went up I think for I think it was Ventra's deadlift and I saw you just shrieking and I was like yeah buddy like that's what we need right now is just each other just yelling at each other yeah that was fun the Keith said I think I'm like That's what we need right now is just each other just yelling at each other.
Starting point is 01:19:26 Yeah, that was fun. The Keith said, I think I'm like, oh, go ahead. Go ahead. Well, OK, so. Once the power lifting was done, the strongman. And we're sitting in the penalty box. There's me. I want to say Big Jen, Big Murph, Stephen Sandier sitting sitting above us ryan and his wife robin i think was her name um maybe like we're all just sitting in a group and dami goes
Starting point is 01:19:54 i got something for you wait and he comes back and he has these fucking signs of the keith's head sticker and he goes i only have six how do we do this only and i went every good lift we throw it up like we're secondary judges and then uh but when keith goes up we all yell keith so you must have not heard that because we were doing that i was in the fucking zone dude i didn't even see you guys i was like a blur i think someone pointed it out, and I'm just like, just deliriously looking like, what are they talking about? But as soon as I had done competing, the whole room opened back up, and I could actually see faces.
Starting point is 01:20:33 Because during the show, everything was just fucking black and white. I didn't see anybody. Everyone was just a fucking background character. But as soon as I got done, I, yeah, I'll get into it in a bit, but sorry. Yeah, the Keith heads were definitely um a good touch it was a very silly aspect of going into this strong man um then at some point i think somebody said keith is hurt and scott's hurt so that's when i went running back to check on you guys and that's when i was like did you not see our keith's heads and you're like maybe that you're like i saw you have one and i was like one like my entire row is lifting them up
Starting point is 01:21:10 that's right that was the conversation i do remember that conversation but just uh yeah everyone thought i was like i mean i tweaked my back i see hair on like log press but not enough to keep me out and then as soon as i was done with stones i was just hobbling over and i was like brayden came up to me completely annihilated and was like, that was awesome, man. I've never seen anything like that. And I was like, can I get one of those bush lights out of your cooler? He's like, yeah. So I'm like sitting there trying to take my fucking because I was completely covered in tacky.
Starting point is 01:21:37 So I'm like taking the the athletic tape off my forearms, trying to just get it off. It was all like bunching up at my wrist and he handed me a beer and it was, it was like my party trick for the next like half hour was like the beer wouldn't fall out of my hand because of the tacky. Like I was just drinking a beer or whatever. And it was great too. Cause like I was the first one to go out. So like 18 other dudes still had to compete.
Starting point is 01:21:57 And I'm just like sitting there, like enjoying my Bush fucking light and just having a good time. But yeah, it was a blast. Jeff, you were going to say something there, bud. Oh, I was just going to comment a little bit on the meet as well.
Starting point is 01:22:08 It was great for me as well, because to me, that's the most difficult to replicate part of the whole weekend. I can hang out with the buds. I can have a block party. I can go to a friend's house. You can't have a meet like that with that many supporters with you where you know, almost everybody that's competing. I mean, I, you know, I train out of the garage. I don't have a lifting crew. I go to a meet and I buddy up with one or two other people for the day and
Starting point is 01:22:33 that's about it. So yeah, it's, it's a unreplaceable environment. Agreed. David, um, how did you yeah it was uh uh so it was cool we got to um show up you know no stress for the strongman getting there too early but we got to watch watch you guys and say hi to everyone and see everyone back back there and then just just kind of wait for our time um and then when we did, there was a ton of support. I could somewhat hear, but definitely watching some of the videos back, I can hear a lot more clearly the support.
Starting point is 01:23:14 That was awesome. Yeah, just typical strongman. You do worse in the things you're going to do well in, and you do better on the things that you didn't think you're going to do well in you do better on the things that you didn't think you were going to do well in that's very accurate yeah pretty significant one of those
Starting point is 01:23:33 but yeah it was a good time it was fun you know I think Tanner was Tanner was telling me it's one thing to meet up but to compete against against people as well it's one thing to meet up, but to, like, you know, compete against people as well. It's like a different dimension. It was super fun.
Starting point is 01:23:52 Performance-wise, Gino was unable to make it due to the Delta flights, which was, which sucks. He actually ended up liking a couple of my posts about it too because you know like obviously he wanted to be there but the people that did take over I didn't catch the name of the kid from the Minnesota Department of Lifting Safety like he fucking he's like top two or three guys on a mic I've ever
Starting point is 01:24:18 heard yeah it was fucking seamless it could have been such a shit show with the two platforms, amazing. And then Scant stepped up for Strongman. He even mentioned, I didn't even see the screen until suddenly he did. And then he was like, oh my god, this is way easier to announce than anything I've ever seen because the screen is there to tell me the reps. So yeah, big shout out to that guy uh and scantz um you know not
Starting point is 01:24:48 to take away from anybody on this podcast right now but megan and lacy going head to head for those stones 30 reps or something each that was wild wild that was insane yeah i think at that point i came running down too because i was just like, I'm just going to cheer them both on. This is insane to see. It's not even fun anymore. This is just amazing. Was that happening simultaneously when Chris and Seth were pretty much going? Because Chris
Starting point is 01:25:15 started first, but then Seth was the last to end. Chris already had 25 reps by the time Seth went. I don't know how long they actually both went head-to-head, but they had fucking 36 and 37 or 37 and 38. It was crazy yeah lacy was there for a while i thought chris was gonna get fucking doms he was he was hurting in the back megan and i think sam uh scar went head to head and i think scar tapped out like after one or two and then lacy stepped in and those two went head to head for 30 something reps it It was, it was insane to watch.
Starting point is 01:25:46 And then, yeah, um, that guy's not even crew. He lives at massonomics gym and he murdered those steps. Tim, Tim feathers, Tim feathers,
Starting point is 01:25:56 murdered. Yeah, that was, that's, that was insane. Like I, I knew stones brother-in-law. I knew that. Oh, I knew Chrisris mark chris mac i knew he was
Starting point is 01:26:08 strong i had no clue who this tim guy was and it was just an utter surprise to just see him absolutely murder those stones yeah so yeah um it's funny because if you look at the results he didn't really have to he just like was putting on a show to like, like still go why Toby was going. Uh, but he did like 20 more reps than anyone else basically. Yep. And then of course, let's, uh, let's round this out.
Starting point is 01:26:31 Unless anybody else has anything to say. Uh, I will, I will say my, I took a screenshot earlier and I guess it synced my wife's phone. So, uh, now Jeff,
Starting point is 01:26:42 uh, my wife knows that I know you for financial advice through that was one of the funny things I heard this weekend that we've been rumbled Jeff is Big David's financial advisor and David's wife doesn't
Starting point is 01:26:57 know their Masonomics connection so I found that very amusing when I heard that story I just got a message So I thought that was very amusing when I, when I heard that story. I just, I just got a message. Yeah. All,
Starting point is 01:27:13 all Saturday was all in all Saturday was great. Um, thought everyone did great. It was awesome watching everyone lift strong man. It was my second strongman show ever. Uh, so the, uh, everyone sucked at log.
Starting point is 01:27:21 That was just, that was underwhelming and depressing. I think that kind of set the, set the tone to be a shitty meet, we all kind of recovered and i think everyone you know did great in deadlift uh stare carrying the state of uh south dakota on my on my chest was very interesting i am uh not great at carries but i had like the most slow and steady and i just i like i kind of hit my goal like i didn't know what i was going to hit but like uh david had hit on i've well well underperformed the one thing I thought I would do great at.
Starting point is 01:27:46 And then I did like, okay. At the shit I thought I was going to like potentially zero out on. So that's the crazy thing about strong men. I hope, I hope, I hope from what the little I saw from everyone, I think we put on a pretty damn good show for everyone.
Starting point is 01:28:00 It was, I know it went a little over, but not as, not as over as the fucking power lifting went. So I thought all in all, it was a great day. We should have started like an hour earlier, so we could have got out of there an hour earlier. That would have been the only thing I could have said. Was it a rule that you guys had to stay there for the whole powerlifting meet?
Starting point is 01:28:17 No. It's like an unspoken rule. In hindsight, I would have fucking came at like noon or something, but I didn't spend all that money to like not hanging out with my friends. I see. Yeah. Beat off in the hotel room. So every single room in the hotel room. Yes. The last shout out I want to give before we move on to kind of the after party
Starting point is 01:28:35 and I got to run to the bathroom. Sam. Holy shit, dude. Holy iron man. Yeah. Well, hey, he walked in with no warmup. Just did the power. 95 the fucking night before. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:28:50 With no warmup either. That was the dumbest. That might've been one of the dumber things I've ever seen in like sports and lifting. Yeah. Yeah. But he, he murdered it.
Starting point is 01:28:57 He did the power lifting meet and the strong man and was fun. The whole time was great to hang out with. Great to talk to. Cody as well. I really loved hanging out with Cody and his wife. But yeah, Sam, legend has it, is still wandering the Midwest looking for strongman competitions and powerlifting competitions to show up to. I thought he was waiting for his flight to get home. No, no. I really like this.
Starting point is 01:29:26 I think me and Matt are going to tag team some memes of Sam as Kwai Chun Kane from Kung Fu The Legend Continues just wandering the Midwest helping people or even the littlest hobo if you're Canadian. Just wandering around
Starting point is 01:29:42 doing strongman, doing powerlifting. I'm never going to make it home. Might as well be strong. But that's a really funny thing. But just, yeah, that dude, he went from morning to night. He went and it was awesome. And then, yeah, the awards happened. We already went over the awards.
Starting point is 01:29:58 And then the zoo. I'm going to let you guys talk about the zoo while I go to the washroom. Dinner first. I will admit, I think the best meal of the weekend was that, what was that pizza place we went to that guys talk about the zoo while i go to the washroom dinner first i will admit i think the best meal of the weekend was that what was that pizza place we went to that was next to the zoo what was that called empty sempses it had the weird like that's what it was like when it showed up on my credit card invoice like my wife was like what the fuck is this place because it was like a whole sentence of like the the name on the invoice and i was like i don't know what the fuck you're talking about and she's like it was like it was roughly this time i was like oh
Starting point is 01:30:23 it's a pizza place but uh that was the highlight for like as far as food consumption that weekend i mean there were some really good ones but that that pizza after the meat at like fucking 8 30 i think by the time we actually got to fucking eat oh god damn it was so good uh and then hitting up the zoo for a couple hours afterwards was clutches i always feel like i want to close the place down but then when i wake up at fucking 5 a.m to leave on sunday i'm like i'm glad they drug me out of there at like 11 because any later would have sucked but it just you know you feel like you're leaving a little bit on the table by not closing it down but i don't know i got a good two i think we got a good two hours at the zoo before we dipped out um you know i did my uh i would my my, my Midwest goodbye and I tried to at least say goodbye to everyone.
Starting point is 01:31:06 And, but it's not even that I was trying to say goodbye twice. It just, it takes a fucking, it takes a half hour to say goodbye to everyone. Cause you literally like a two minute conversation with 40 people. That's a fucking, that takes some time. I, uh, I left early to about 11 and, um, the wife was along and she wanted to, she was done, ready to go. And, and I said, all right, we're going to do an Irish goodbye. And she was concerned that it was going to take forever. She didn't know what that was.
Starting point is 01:31:33 I had to explain it, but it was, that was, that was good for me. I felt good on Sunday, but the best part other than big Matt showing up in his singlet was Andy the kid I had lifted with that did his first meet and he was there and he walked up to Scantz and he was just, we were talking about
Starting point is 01:31:58 he had this big smile on his face just shit eating grin and he could not take the smile off of his face he said, i'd do this again next weekend he's like he was just he was in he just loved it and so seeing that was really cool and then yeah matt and his uh and his singlet was pretty pretty sweet as well that definitely threw some people off like people that weren't there last year and didn't know what kind of character matt is i saw multiple people's face when they saw him for the first time like with a you know junk hanging out in
Starting point is 01:32:27 a singlet like at a restaurant at a bar but i'm like that's the matt we know but like there was 30 people that didn't know that matt yet and it was fucking great seeing that like facial expressions on people i saw it firsthand multiple people like jaw slightly dropped if he'd get on the podcast you know he could talk about it himself a bit um yeah uh should i talk or does like should somebody else go because i've got uh everyone else yeah okay yeah no one else went yet so so definitely uh dempties was great had a good pizza i sat with uh thea and jake because i thought this was the quiet table but then thea was like no where this is the fun table now which is awesome uh on the way out i think i made a quick little story on instagram where i was like it never fails you travel halfway across the
Starting point is 01:33:16 continent to meet with your friends then all day you gotta hang out with your fucking friends and i'm so tired and as i go into the zoo they're playing kendrick lamar is not like us and i was just amped because i love that song i danced right past the bouncer and he started like laughing and dancing with me and then he's like but no seriously i need your id and that kind of was um it's it's like a double-edged sword a little bit. I love the attention and respect and love, but I was so tired. I paid for one drink, maybe two. And everybody else just kept bringing me drinks, ordering stuff. And I think Damien, Chris was the first to point it out.
Starting point is 01:33:58 He's like, I actually watched you try and hide. Like you came to our table and hid behind me and people just kept finding you to pull you out to go do things and talk to them and i was like i was so fucked i actually i think was one of the first to leave uh because at that rate um the dammies wanted to leave and jen just kind of went i want to go and i don't know that she knew I was there. I just put my head on her shoulder. I was like, yes, please get me out of here. I want to go to bed. I'm so tired. And then Chris was like, well, I might stay.
Starting point is 01:34:33 Actually, let's even backtrack a little bit. I go and buy my beer. That was the one beer I bought. I bought a can of the Miller Lite. I'm the influencer, but people bought him drinks all night, the fucker. Trond comes up to me and Trond is like, I got to buy you a ginger drink. And I was like,
Starting point is 01:34:48 okay, man, but I just bought this beer. He's like, Oh, I'll take it. And he downs it in one drink. That's true.
Starting point is 01:34:55 He can order me this whiskey drink out. And I was like, well, bizarro Trond is coming out. And he went, yeah, probably. Uh,
Starting point is 01:35:02 and I ended up on top shelf for team canada shot some of the locals i don't think appreciated us uh there was some some talk of some weirdness um from a few of us that like they didn't like our shorts they didn't like the my nails were painted they didn't like like there was some talk of that kind of stuff happening there, but I didn't really see any of it. Uh, so hopefully we prepare them better next year. Um, but it was, it was a, it was a hell of a time,
Starting point is 01:35:30 but by that time I was so tired. So like, if I didn't get to talk to you or party with you or drink with you or whatever, I'm sorry. I was so fucking done. I think we went back to the hotel. I had one drink on the patio and was like,
Starting point is 01:35:44 Nope, Nope, Nope, Nope, Nope. And i passed right out um but that was it was like it definitely was the best way to round out the lift hard live easy yeah i definitely think that um but yeah i just don't know how much we can do that my poor 75 kilogram frame cannot handle that many beers i didn't get to consume any of the new specialty drinks but i got the old special there they had uh i walked out on the patio and fucking bryce had like eight froggers on the table i feel like and so like i got handed one and i drank what felt was like 60% of it. And I look at the cup and there's like an,
Starting point is 01:36:27 like half an inch gone. And I'm like, cause it's like 90% sugar. It felt like, I don't know. Like I thought I drank so much of that fucking thing. And I swear to God, it was like,
Starting point is 01:36:35 it was like a nothing. And I just fucking, I just slid it back across the table and said my goodbyes. There's a satellite bar up by the, uh, up by top shelf. So there's nobody there. So I go over and I'm like, man what's a texas power bomb and he goes oh it's this and this and this like i know what any of those fucking ingredients are it's caffeine and no one knew
Starting point is 01:36:54 it yeah and i was like okay i'll take one and he bust out an energy drink and before he opened it i put my hand out i was like no no is this a caffeine bomb he's like yeah i was like i have changed my mind i I do not want that. I am 40 years old and it is 1030 at night. I am not having a heart attack in Aberdeen, South Dakota. I was like, you can pour me a Jager and I'll pay you for it because I took up your time, but do not crack that energy drink for me. So yeah, it turned out that it's called the Chuck Norris. I think they pretty much just rebranded the Chuck Norris to do it. And I still don't know what that is either.
Starting point is 01:37:29 But yeah, as soon as he busted out the energy drink, I was like, Nope, Nope, we're not doing that tonight. Um, yeah,
Starting point is 01:37:36 a hell of a time. Tanner. I spent like most of my time, obviously with the dammies and, and Ryan and a little bit of my time with Tanner. Um, not like last year where Jen, me and Jen like wandered around and did our things,
Starting point is 01:37:48 but then I was like, I gotta go, I gotta go now. And I'm not doing goodbyes. And I think my favorite joke of mine, which might lead into the next segment was, I said, I'm going to do a Canadian goodbye.
Starting point is 01:37:59 And somebody said, well, what's the difference? I was like, well, with an Irish goodbye, you just leave with a Canadian goodbye. It's like,
Starting point is 01:38:04 I was never here. And I just kind of left well i hope that wasn't too late i hope that wasn't too sappy but no a hell of a time like everybody was so friendly and excited and i love everybody i was just i was every battery I had was drained. And, uh, I hope people don't think that I abandoned or left the party or whatever. I was just done. I think it was a long day. We're in that. You had the extra time because of the strong man.
Starting point is 01:38:40 You didn't really have any time to regroup very much at the hotel. Take a shower. That's about it. Unless you're a big man. You just keep the singlet on. No nap. So yeah, I mean, I was burnt by the time we got there myself. Dempsey's Pizza was the bomb. Is that South Dakota-style pizza?
Starting point is 01:38:54 You got New York pizza, Detroit pizza, maybe that's South Dakota pizza. Had some kind of barbecue chicken pizza with what they had ranch on there as part of the sauce. It was killer. But yeah, had a good time at the zoo but i was pretty much winding down and i figured uh chris mark was probably pretty beat as well and so whatever it was like hey man anytime you're ready to go yeah it's like how about now so it's like what time do you want to leave and i was like
Starting point is 01:39:21 i looked at the clock it was like it was like 10 40 i was like give me a half hour and then i get like jeff's like i'm leaving you here in 10 minutes fucker or something like that it wasn't it wasn't like that but i was just like all right fuck i gotta go yeah i think it was fucking i think it was 10 30 is when jen was like i kind of want to leave i was like yes please um and then ryan was trying to convince chris to stay and chris goes well if they're staying, I'll stay. And Jen goes, don't phone me. I'm not coming to get you. You guys will find your own way back. Yeah, that's the trick. There's no fucking Lyft or Uber.
Starting point is 01:39:51 They're very limited. So Ryan goes, okay, and he goes and buys a round. And he comes back, he hands a beer to Chris. Chris downs it. Two sips. And then goes, now I want to leave. Ryan's like,
Starting point is 01:40:05 you fuck. Like I just ordered a round. So we left Ryan there. Cause I think Chris kind of clued in. Like, I don't want to have to worry about getting back either. But yeah, that was,
Starting point is 01:40:16 that was Saturday. I wish there was a shot. Like, so they need to get a group right at the fucking hotel. And they also need to figure out a shuttle because like I would have been cool. I mean, it would have sucked, but like it would have been nice to just get a little bit more time. But yeah, obviously getting up at fucking five was brutal. I didn't have to.
Starting point is 01:40:34 Well, yeah, I slept right through Steve and Sandy leaving. It was awesome. They woke me up briefly to say bye. And I was like, hey, love you. Thank you for coming. Get out. And then I went back to sleep I slept till
Starting point is 01:40:47 I think I slept till 10 30 or 11 is when yeah you were almost home by then that's when Ryan started texting me we're all going to the gym and I was like no I'm not doing that like nope I'm gonna sit here until my flight and then he goes well I'll come pick you up after
Starting point is 01:41:03 breakfast so I was like fine i'll get up and i walked over to target and this is actually one of my favorite stories i'm at target buying caffeine drinks and mary's there like i just happened to look down the aisle and there's mary baird tilting her head looking down the aisle at me with all the kids and she's like were you heading i was like i was gonna go down to the gym she's like yeah i'll give you a ride so i show up with everybody because the kids want to go see daddy they haven't seen daddy all weekend and he's a little busy yeah so then as i'm coming into the back room i hear tanner go joey who you gave joey a ride what joey and he looks up he goes oh what
Starting point is 01:41:43 the i was like man i don't know anymore like i just go to aberdeen and people recognize me at target and i got a ride here don't worry about it uh big david you want to round out the zoo talk before we uh yes move on yeah yeah nothing ready to add i i think i stayed maybe a little bit later, maybe past midnight or 1, but yeah, just a good time, but everyone was tired. Yeah, pizza was great, and then, yeah, Sunday morning.
Starting point is 01:42:16 And then, so I know Tanner and Mary were pretty much there until the last call. So was Scantz, and Scantz was talking, just like people walking up going like, my sister don't like your shorts they're too short and i get like that's he scantz was like stuff started to get fucking weird we had to get out of there i thought for sure because that was good oh stuff was weird at uh like nine o'clock when we were there there was a dude there that
Starting point is 01:42:45 just skinny, never lifted a weight in his life he had the baggy jeans the baggy shirt, cross a weird hat and he to me that's, I mean he was a serial killer, I was like what is going on it was creepy
Starting point is 01:43:01 it was a bit of a threat yeah, that was weird there was a couple, but I mean I think just young kids peacocking, there was a bit of a threat um yeah that was weird there was a couple but i mean i think just young kids peacocking there's a couple guys there in suits what are you doing in suits at the zoo man like relax but again young kids right they're just ruffling their feathers for whatever reason uh the dj was taking requests so i got uh childish Gambino played and then in walks Nate Thomas. And he's like, I love this song.
Starting point is 01:43:26 I was like, I requested this. So like we kind of bonded over some childish Gambino love there too, for a minute, but geez, yeah, stuff got weird there. Did the,
Starting point is 01:43:36 uh, I will, will self gratifying here, pat myself on the back a little bit. Did, well, maybe if your answers aren't what I expect, they are,
Starting point is 01:43:43 then I won't. But, uh, the, the road to the lift hard video Hard video series, did that help anyone? Did anyone actually consume it? I talked to a few people and they said, I didn't even watch it. I'm like, well, go fuck yourself then. But I hope at least a handful of people consumed some of it or all of it.
Starting point is 01:43:55 It helped. I didn't watch a single one. And I don't listen to anything you say on the podcast, so it's all fair. As much as I was like, these are the best, I don't think I actually sat through a single one of them you suck but i'm tired a lot of people friday night were talking about how uh how persistent you are keith that's the most positive way i can uh fucking get me your fucking fucking road fucking leave easy fucking if it I don't care it's for sure there's at least a handful of people that helped and made
Starting point is 01:44:28 their weekend better so everyone else can eat a dick and it helped some people it was actually genuinely cool and I will also pat your back for you because yeah that as much as I didn't watch all of them because like I don't I don't have the time to we know like 90% of the people already
Starting point is 01:44:44 to yeah but for the people that maybe didn't know and uh you know and also just helping people feel included is important right like i know your people are whining that you're persistent bothering them and stuff like that but like it's we're here for you we're here to help you feel included in this event that you might not know all of us and so if you can give me just a quick 30 second rundown of what your plans are how much you want to have so it was a really great idea so big shout out to nate thomas for that idea and for for keith hunting it down but yeah definitely it definitely was uh super super awesome i just hope it helped but i don't think i don't think it'll be returning for LHLE3.
Starting point is 01:45:27 I would hope that they do return, and you don't need to chase people down. I enjoyed them. Go ahead. I enjoyed them, and it definitely helped,
Starting point is 01:45:43 but that's kind of the nature of it that you always, when you're trying to coordinate something like that, you're always need somebody to crack on people down and keep them accountable. So that's, I appreciate it. Thank you. Thank you. Right.
Starting point is 01:45:58 Um, do anyone have any like super funny moments that stood out that they wanted to share? Like I couldn't honestly think everything was just a blur of awesomeness. So like nothing, I didn't like take note of anything that was like, Oh my God, that was the funniest,
Starting point is 01:46:09 but did anyone have like something that just stood out that just like a laugh out loud moment that they just wanted to share? For me, it, it wasn't necessarily a, a real laugh out loud moment, but it was just, it was interesting at the meet.
Starting point is 01:46:24 I was warming up with Tommy. He was in our flight and just the, he hadn't lifted in six years in a competition. And so that one point he thought they were almost done with the, their third lifts and it was their second. So he got real concerned that we were way behind in our warmup and just seeing him was was like we gotta go we gotta go he's freaking out a little bit until he figured that out it was just kind of funny to see that tension and he was really trying to push us so that is uh i think i do think me showing up with mary and the kids was one of my favorite because there's just no way you could have called that happening it was just such a storm because she was like we closed the zoo so we made a pact with
Starting point is 01:47:12 the kids that we will buy them toys if they leave me alone for the day yeah so that was definitely just i think to me that was but it also says says so much about Tanner and his family and Masonomics and the connections we've made that like, she didn't think twice. She was like, yeah, I'll drive you again. And I was just like, okay. Right. And I do. Okay. I do appreciate that.
Starting point is 01:47:39 I don't really have like any really funny thing. I think there was one point and I want to call Matt out on this. I was talking about leading into the training and how I eat a lot of pickles because I enjoy pickles because they're easy electrolytes fill your stomach. I just love pickles. It was like, yeah, the shape.
Starting point is 01:47:57 So there you go. So I go, yeah, I was like, yeah, I'm eating two a day and Michael who I bet you are at the same time. And in my head I was like, what are you fucking Keith? Everything's a dick joke. So as much as they want to rag on you, yeah, I'm eating two a day. And Matt goes, I bet you are at the same time. And in my head, I was like, what are you, fucking Keith? Everything's a dick joke.
Starting point is 01:48:07 So as much as they want to rag on you, buddy, they're not that much better. David just proved it. That's a little bit of Keith inside of all of us. Yeah. Hey, now, speak for yourself. There's a few more after this weekend. The Fairfield sucked.
Starting point is 01:48:26 I don't think I'll do the Fairfield next year. You're just a bad guest, I think. I don't know. Oh, man, it was everybody but you. I didn't have any trouble at the Fairfield. I didn't have any trouble until Sunday when that one person was working, and she made it very hard on all of us. one person was working and she made it very hard on all of us um i'm gonna write obviously in the review but like gen damager will tell you the same thing murph will tell you the same thing like this young lady she did not want to do any of her job so like at one point i went down and i was like
Starting point is 01:48:57 hey uh my roommates and i kind of used all our pillows or not pillows towels can i have another set of towels and throw the pillows pillows and she's like and she's like well it's just me working and i was like okay it's still your job to get me towels like let me hear from what i'm talking to the right person yeah and then she actually comes in and she just puts the towels on the counter and walks away and then i'm like oh uh can i bring those up and she's like well i'm not gonna and i was like fuck like come on man like i just asked if i could help you don't have to give me that attitude um and then the what ended up happening was the entire pool ran out of towels but there was a family of like 11 kids. So the lobby got stoked and flooded. And this girl didn't do a thing about it.
Starting point is 01:49:52 And all of the patio doors were locked. All of them. So at some point, I guess they lock them at like 10 p.m. at night to make sure that you can only use specific entrances. But this is i think five in the afternoon so jen goes in and says to the girl oh um the doors aren't working and the girl goes it's because your key isn't working here's a new key well that didn't work either i go into the girl and i go hey go into her oh buddy yeah and i go the this this none of the side doors work and she's like well
Starting point is 01:50:27 because you're using them too much and you're overwhelming the coding of the card and i went that's not a thing i think the doors are broken and she's like no i'll get you another key and i went yeah that didn't help the last person you told that to so no and i guess at the same time jen also had asked for more towels and she gave her wet towels like she literally gave her soaking wet towels out of the washing machine so like the fairfield itself was fine but whoever this young lady is if you don't like your job go get a different one because the next girl comes in and I walk up to the next one. Her name was Morgan. She was awesome.
Starting point is 01:51:06 I go to her and I was like, hey, the side doors don't work. And she's like, oh, like what's happening? I said, just we tap and they don't do anything. I said, actually, they're giving us orange lights. Orange lights are an error on these doors. Red lights are your key doesn't work. No lights is your door is broken. Orange lights are error codes.
Starting point is 01:51:26 And two of them are giving me no lights. of them's giving me an orange lights so she drags that other girl that was not nice to test them all and then she's like the doors are broken we have to call somebody and like it just got to that level we're all like i was like i'm gonna prop the door open she goes you can't scans goes fuck i can't so scans just jams a chair in between the door and is like figure it out after this like he doesn't care so big shout to scans yeah so i don't i don't know that's funny i think the american was a little bit of a better experience for me because um they kind of knew who we were knew what massonomics was really accommodated us i did not enjoy that that stay at the Fairfield because of that young lady.
Starting point is 01:52:05 So. I would say the, the back patio Friday after Tanner's, I didn't think I was going to go down there. So then Chris, Jeff and I rolled in, Oh, it was like nine 30,
Starting point is 01:52:14 almost 10, at least nine 30. And there was a fucking like 10, 12 of you on the, on the back porch. And Chris went right to bed. Jeff stayed for probably a half hour. I think I stayed for like an hour,
Starting point is 01:52:24 hour and a half. And I was just like, I was just enjoyable to just get some more you know gathering you know some be a part of a bigger gathering i felt like i kind of missed a lot of that last year it was like you know i missed some of like the inner not inner circle stuff but like people didn't use discord very well last year i didn't feel like as far as like coordinating stuff um and if you weren't in the right place at the right time you just missed out on shit so i felt like i was more in the bigger groups of stuff this year a couple times was fun like we're getting part of that big billboard picture we just we just all happened to be there at the same time and we like you know with three of us kind of ran up when a bunch of guys were about ready to leave and we got in that last big uh group photo so yeah just
Starting point is 01:53:00 definitely was a fucking blast definitely do the american in next year. But otherwise, it was it was awesome to be in the same motel as everybody for sure. Indeed. Well, we're going to probably start wrapping this up shortly. If anyone has anything they didn't get off their chest yet. And let's do a round robin of that. If anyone's got anything. Is everyone coming back for Lift Hard, Live Easy 3? If the boys, the sisters decide to actually put it on, which I'm pretty sure they're talking about right now.
Starting point is 01:53:27 You know, God forbid they fucking do a recording on Wednesday that the host of this podcast can fucking listen to it. You know, they have to pick our fucking night to record. Are they recording right now? Yeah, the fuckers. Like, and it is probably an episode where they'll let the people stay on for, like, three quarters of it. If all, like, but and then, like, so, like, so like the one night I could have like consumed more massonomic shit, you know, they had to,
Starting point is 01:53:46 you know, they decided to, to, to fuck with me, I guess. But no, there's a, they're,
Starting point is 01:53:51 they're, they're definitely going right now. All right. So you're breaking. So you're getting your break. Yep. If there, is there anything you guys want to see next year that we didn't see this
Starting point is 01:54:01 year? The only thing that i would love to see but i don't see how it would be possible i think it'd be sweet to have um both both the podcasts record record an episode when you're there but i just don't know how that's even that's even possible yeah and i it's so easy to do it's so easy to do a Zoom call that I'm not spending my hard-earned vacation to do my second job. I don't see a world where that's going to be a thing. Unless it's so, so convenient and everyone just has two hours of downtime, which we didn't have any fucking downtime. Everyone was busy the whole weekend.
Starting point is 01:54:40 So I know people would probably enjoy watching that live or something, but I think it would just take us out of the moment that we're trying to like we didn't i i didn't have to record last week which is awesome like this is the first time recording in in 14 days it was such a break like like we literally take i think joey and i mean maybe take one week off a year two at the most from this and i was actually kind of uh to put it in perspective for people that like played sports in high school like recording this podcast every single week to me is similar to playing a football game on friday but fucking 52 weeks a year like it is that like it's it's just work um and i mean it's cool it's awesome but it's also like draining so to have a week off last week it was just it was fucking great i would i would put it in the perspective nate of um when you see somebody on the football field you're seeing the results
Starting point is 01:55:25 you're not seeing the work and we do this once a week but there's so much work that goes into this and that includes emotional labor gathering information um i as much as keith says like he does 99 of the stuff like that i still do a lot of um on, on Thursdays, usually I either don't work or I work early so that I can get out early and I'll spend one to two hours just staring at my phone. And that's me going on people's Instagrams, fixing the notes. I get all the notes. Keith says, yeah, but who fixes those fucking notes? Me. It is much easier now.
Starting point is 01:56:04 Um, but it is, my life got a lot easier so that's probably why i was bitching about it for long because it was so much fucking work coordinating like 10 different people's dms if there was anything i would do based on that suggestion it would be i would have somebody there as a content creator for us so either i'm not competing, Keith's not competing, or we've hired somebody whose sole job is to do the thing I hate, but be our influencer. Record us, yeah. Yeah, and I'm not there yet. I don't think it's realistic for you or the Mathonomics, but I think it would be really cool. I know it won't happen.
Starting point is 01:56:44 We did it at home. I mean, I was able to partake of it at home gym con, which wasics, but I think it would be really cool. I know it won't happen. We did it at home. I mean, I was able to partake of it at home gym con, which was awesome, but that was also – but even that one hour took me out of home gym con for a whole hour. It was great, and I'd do it again, but I don't know. These things that we go to are so brief that to then do a second task, it's – I don't know. I wouldn't hate it. Love the enthusiasm but if there was a chance where it was like oh by the way uh friday in between weigh-ins and tanner's party let's all sit down
Starting point is 01:57:12 and me tanner tommy keith grant like we all just have like a family get together with the cousins and the sisters and we do an episode then, absolutely. Maybe that is something that we figure out. But at the event itself. Woo. Woo. And I think Tommy and Tanner feel the same of us, too. Like, they don't want to do in-person live recordings very often because it's so easy to do shit on Zoom. I don't think there's anything I would change.
Starting point is 01:57:41 And I don't think there's anything I would add. But I do sense this is only going to get bigger which is harder yeah i i would expect powerlifting first year strongman and powerlifting second year maybe we add highland maybe we start adding some like slap boxing or something like eventually this becomes the arnold of the or the jessica as we've been joking since the original original idea of this is that like we just become too big for our britches and i can sense that may be happening it depends on how much work these guys want to take on or how much work they want to outsource but i do sense that it's only either going to stop or get way bigger.
Starting point is 01:58:26 I, uh, I would suggest like I initially, when everyone signed up, like 90% of the people that signed up for the 90 lifter meet were crew, but then like 20 or 30 people dropped out and they were all replaced with just locals and like friends of like people that just knew Dave through XPC. So I feel that like a 60 lifter meet with all crew would have been
Starting point is 01:58:44 significantly better than a 90 lifter meet when a bunch weren't crew so i don't know how you mitigate that when you you know people just sign up to get a spot and then when they realize it costs two thousand dollars they back out so like i don't know how we fix that problem but like having a slightly smaller meet that's like more crew would be awesome i don't know how we solve that problem um i don't see that making the like i don't know how we solve that problem. Um, I don't see that making the, like, I don't know.
Starting point is 01:59:08 Initially the strong man, the power of the meat was supposed to start at like, I think nine is at a nine 30 or eight 30. And like, I know Dave kind of switched that up last minute. Um, so I think having that extra half hour would have helped to get the strong man started earlier. Um,
Starting point is 01:59:19 so anything to like start power lifting earlier or shorten it or not take that big, long break between deadlifts. Uh, I don't know. I just know we were kind of expecting to lift it too. And we didn't lift almost three 30 or four and like our warmups were all over the place and for strong man and,
Starting point is 01:59:33 uh, non-existent in some aspects. So that would have just been, I don't know, just shortening the day, like an hour somehow would have been amazing. Uh, and the last major change I think I would make is having David not look so bored on our podcast today.
Starting point is 01:59:48 Yeah, that's it. I'm just doing my Buffalo Wild Wings server impression. What do you guys want now? I wish your background was just that guy's face that would have been so funny yeah that would have been yeah um i gotta do a lot of scrolling through the thread to get back to that yeah no it's we're good don't worry about it um anything you think you missed out on other than like the stuff we already touched on like if you could like change one thing that you didn't get to do maybe yeah i guess i didn't
Starting point is 02:00:25 like take enough pictures or you know uh maybe maybe that there were definitely people i didn't get to speak to right maybe i could have done about the job of really really circulating but yeah as always as always thanks i'm happy i got to the circus i didn't think i was going to but we were all sitting around and they're like, let's go to Buffalo Wild Wings. I was like, fuck no. And I was like, well,
Starting point is 02:00:48 let's go to circus. And then everybody was like, Oh, we haven't done that yet. Like that was one of those, like, I'm so happy I did that. Cause I didn't get to do that last year.
Starting point is 02:00:55 I also didn't get to see Brock the rock. So while I was walking around the five lane, six lane highway that runs through Aberdeen, I was like, I actually said to the server, you know, but is that Brock the rock? And she's like the one that everybody gets stuck on. Yeah. And like, she actually knew, so I was pretty amped. And that's when I went and got my selfie with Brock the rock, which, uh, I didn't get to do last year. All right. Uh, I think the last thing I want to
Starting point is 02:01:19 ask, cause we are rounding out about two hours right now is, uh, ideas for other awards. The Brian's award was an addition this year. Really funny. Uh, there was talk about biggest dump truck, um, which, uh,
Starting point is 02:01:33 I obviously have careful with that. Yeah. Like two dudes giving that to a woman would not go great. Probably. Yeah. I have the idea of that, but that's also pretty silly. Um,
Starting point is 02:01:44 it's like ass land. That's just for women, like that thing that happened on Instagram a couple months ago. Yeah. Is there anything you guys would add? Like a different lift, a different reward? I talked to Tanner about a couple things. Nothing materialized this go-around.
Starting point is 02:02:02 Maybe something will happen in the future. But I had thought about the lifter who will never financially recover from this, which looking back, that could be someone like, you wouldn't know in advance, but Sam or somebody that had to book all those extra hotel rooms and stuff. Biggest Grind
Starting point is 02:02:18 actually I think is a good award. That's also kind of tough to judge, but definitely like Kevin had a big one. I think Scantz had a big one in there. Let's also kind of tough to judge, but definitely like, you know, Kevin had a big one. I think Scantz had a big one in there. Let's see. David found the picture of the server, and he's trying to put it up.
Starting point is 02:02:34 Oh, nice. That is great. I love you, David. Yeah, those are a couple that come up. Oh, there was one actually. Chicken Bake Award. Chicken Bake Award for the lifter who made weight by the slimmest margin oh that's a really good idea yeah very nice yeah and because you wouldn't know it's every year right yep or tanner apparently i'm excited for open power lifting to come out because
Starting point is 02:02:58 i want to see like everyone's actual results uh i i know we talked about uh you know matthias c pappy like i want to see how many because i kind of like i know how strong he was like i knew him before and really a lot of other people did and i know how fucking strong he is for 165 and i'm like ike out totaled like the majority of the 181s and probably a lot of the 198s yep uh so like i want to actually like look and see that on paper and be like okay like just get perspective of how strong some of these fuckers are okay there it is oh that's perfect yeah get a picture key perfect god damn it david uh there there was one there
Starting point is 02:03:31 was one moment for david's uh there is one spot and i wanted to share just before we kind of all um started to check out a little bit um me so a bunch of us on the Sunday are sitting on the patio and it's me and Cody, the bird watcher, right? The strongest bird watcher and a bird started making a noise and me and Cody both perked up like hunting cats. And I think that that was actually one of my favorite connections I made during this is because we were both just like, what is that? And then we, like, I was like, Oh, I have an app for that. I pulled out the Merlin app and we were trying to hunt it, but there was some construction going by, but I just wanted like those little tiny
Starting point is 02:04:14 connections that we make every year with people that we've only ever talked to either on this podcast, on the discord or through Instagram. That was a very good example to me of just like we both what what is that what is that and like we were like gonna go hunt it down so big shout out to cody for that one that was a really good uh i felt that and i still talk about that i told my wife about it so like that was a really good little quick connection that i had with somebody that i i've never met in my life but we were we were in sync on that one oh i can touch base on that too like so we've literally interviewed probably like 40 people that were there and i only met maybe like 20 of them 15 of them in person up until this weekend like i forgot i was
Starting point is 02:04:57 almost struggling to be like have i met you in person yet like because i feel like i know i've talked to you for two and a half three hours and i feel like i've already met you so like that was um which we didn't really have i mean we were only this podcast was like fucking only a couple months old the last last year so uh to experience over a year of interviews and then seeing all those people for the first time that was pretty uh it was very cool to just like feel like i like another level it's so different from just being in dms like we literally looked in someone's eyes and talked to them for two hours on a computer like that's more than just talking people on instagram and shit so i thought that helped and makes me grateful for this podcast all right um i'm gonna
Starting point is 02:05:33 give it to the three non-hosts that uh can round us out anything you guys want to say or just give your exits and goodbyes but um thank you for being here, helping us recap some of this, helping me remember some of this because what a fucking blur it's been. So David, do you want to go first? What do you have there with your doppelganger on there? Yeah. So yeah, just, you know,
Starting point is 02:05:58 it was a great weekend. It was great to meet everyone in person, although I told you, you already know. You already know people, essentially. Yeah, fun lifting with everyone, and I look forward to the next year. Nate? Yeah, it was a great time. Looking forward to next year.
Starting point is 02:06:19 It's just, it's fun to compete, have that fire, yell at some other guys, see some young guys get involved with that, make the connections with everybody. And I guess one thing we didn't talk about is seeing Tanner getting a little fired up on the, uh, on the, uh,
Starting point is 02:06:36 the deadlift there and getting fired up. And he talked about that a little bit on Instagram, just, just seeing that fire from, from him. I just, you know, and being an old guy, it's kind of fun to just compete and, you know, yell a little bit and get a little crazy.
Starting point is 02:06:54 So I'll be there next year for sure. Jeff? Yeah, not much else to say. A great time. I've already started my next training program. Just in case anything pops up next year, we keep our eyes peeled see uh real real uh sorry real quick jeff without any spoilers because you can't tell the story but uh how does it feel to be in the inner circle of a handful of people that actually have heard tanner tell the uh who he kicked out of the gym story
Starting point is 02:07:18 yeah we have a special handshake and everything it's very very private club make sure if you know anyone i i feel like% of the people forgot to ask Tanner that story. So next year, obviously, it's only an in-person story. So there's no spilling of the beans, even if they're on toast. But you've got to come to Live Hard, Live Easy 3 next year to get that one. All right, so I'm going to hit us with some affiliate links. And everyone give me or give us our outros uh where we can find you so affiliate links uh please go ahead and use

Starting point is 02:08:28 Joey, do you want them to find you this week? Are you good? Hey, I actually surpassed 1500 followers. Nice. Well done. While I was in,
Starting point is 02:08:37 uh, Aberdeen. And there is a bit of a funny story to that. Um, Murph says, Hey, who's this guy? And his Instagram handle is fuck this workout and she's
Starting point is 02:08:48 like we talk about metal he calls me big Murph we talk about massonomics but I don't know who he is and I was like well I'll figure it out so I followed him and he followed me back and he was my 1500 follower nice so I was like hey congratulations thank you for getting me here here's a 25 of asnomics gift card um i wasn't running a competition or anything but because he was the one to do it i found out who he was and that was actually really i was like we are we are the we are the crew detectives on this one so a big shout out to big tim thank you for that uh he is in the discord and actually i oh nice i swear to god spoke for the first time after I sent him that gift card in the Discord.
Starting point is 02:09:29 That's awesome. Yeah, but he's a Midwesterner. So I did get ragged on this when they asked me how to spell my last name at the hotel. It's Joey underscore M-L-E-C-Z-K-O. As soon as I said Zed, I heard two or three Americans behind me go, Zed, Zed. Zed's dead, man. Yeah, Zed's dead, man. That's my only Instagram.
