Nate's not real. Everybody knows that.
Who?
Well, I mean, I didn't see him this weekend.
So I can't confirm he's still real.
I did not either.
I did not either.
Hunk Hunk!
Hunk Hunk!
Hunk Hunk!
Hunk Hunk!
Alright,
welcome everybody to episode 36 or 37
of the Unpaid and underrated podcast,
the podcast for crew by crew sponsored by crew, mocked by crew. And this week attended
by crew. I'm joined as always by big Keith and he's going to help us round out our round
table.
Howdy, howdy. So we got here this week, we got big big dr. Hogan How's it going? We got big Anthony. What's up guys big Bryce?
What's up and our newly minted professional strongman big Tyler Thompson TNT himself?
Howdy
Welcome gentlemen welcome. So this is the first episode after the Arnold
Everyone here pretty much was there or they're in spirit all weekend.
So let's just get right into it. I had a blast, had a great weekend.
It's my second time going in the last three years.
Had reservations about going to first. He's like, oh, you know, it's a big,
it's a big, it's a big event. It's a big, you know, endeavor.
Hogan hooked us up with me and Anthony and kind of took care of some of our lodging for us. So that took care of a lot of the financial strain and, you know, endeavor. Hogan hooked us up with me and Anthony and kind of took care of some of our lodging for us.
So that took care of a lot of the financial strain.
And, you know, I had a blast.
Wouldn't regret it.
Do not regret going.
Just a very good, funny, good, fun time.
I'm sure we'll dive right into at some point later on for any of my personal experiences.
But specifically, let's see, how do we want to do this?
We want to just get into Tyler's events here.
I want to hear about Tyler being a strongman and a professional strongman.
That's kind of the highlight of my, you know, tonight's episode, at least for the first,
give you a floor for about five, 10 minutes.
Tyler, you want to tell us how you, you know, how your weekend went?
Yeah, I got in Friday for weigh- ants and checking all that stuff Friday was my main day to
Like see everyone
Go to the booths walk around the convention
Friday the big big thing of the weekend got my Hall of Fame Cup
Big thing of the weekend. So a lot of people get those this weekend. I think there was six or so. Yeah
several several newly minted Hall of
Famers.
But yeah, I was in the pro Arnold Trump program. That is the
first years ever been a pro show. So that was really
interesting. Going to go going up against some of these bigger
names that when I could initially signed up I was still
the amateur. And then about two could initially signed up, I was still the amateur.
And then about two weeks after sign up, they changed it to a program,
which was a big curve ball.
So then some pros, some pros actually jumped in. Then is that what it like, is that all that?
Yeah.
It was like, uh, Andrew Burton, who like one, he was a pro.
Uh, funny enough, the only two amateurs to make it to the second day was me and Seth who,
spoiler, I got third, he got second. So the only two amateurs were on the podium that made it to day two.
Nothing wrong with that.
Yeah, no. So the show, I know we talked about,
Um, I know we talked about, uh, maybe another person that was competing on for us. We were supposed to go on, we were supposed to get there at three and start competing at four.
When I got there at three, um, the first group of three, I just finished.
So they were at that time about an hour and a half
behind. We were supposed to do four events, we ended up only
doing three events that day because we were getting kicked
out of the arena, like the police were like, like my friends
that flew in from Baltimore and North Carolina, they like come
and watch compete and they saw me do two log lifts of the first event and then got kicked out by the police so they're people out
at seven because I know like the expo more or less seven so they didn't let
you guys literally finish the fucking event that's wild so we it's always a
weird so I'll get into it like the first event was a log lift we're supposed to
start at four I think I did my first, like looking at like my, like the phone,
like the picture of timestamps.
I did my first lift at seven 30.
Jesus Christ.
And they were kicking people out.
Yeah.
Oh yeah.
That's strongly, normally not that bad, but I mean, roll with the punch.
It's got to do what you got to do.
They don't call it on time, man.
No, definitely not.
Um, but yeah, like my, uh, friends got kicked out weirdly.
My parent, like it was like, depending on what section you're in, like my parents
were on the side, kind of like near the athletes and they didn't say anything to
them.
So like, luckily my parents got to stay there and watch the whole thing, but my
friends, like they went out front to like, have the front view of me competing and they just
kicked them out.
The cops are like, you're out here.
Kicking everyone out about 730.
Yeah, so event-wise, first up was MaxLog, which was trying to redeem myself from the
lift hard to be easy this summer.
I opened, it was on a Slater log like the real wooden log first time I very lift on one of those that was amazing
That's a bucket list like those are pretty long too. Aren't they like it's not yeah. Oh, yeah, it's a lot longer and like
it's weirder cuz like
You know normal metal logs are kind of hollow where it's solid wood, like a lot of weight
is just like right there on your chest, even.
So yeah, I opened a 360, kind of lighter,
just to cause that was literally the first time
I ever touched that log was when I like that first lift,
opened that, got that, jumped up up to 400 if you watch my video I
opened a brand new thing assaults and like hit him and like I almost like go
down they just dropped a car bomb because like the ones I the ones I've
been having a practice are like I open at the lift hardly be easy so they're
like pretty weak now so I got to get in practice are like, I open at the Lithuania LVC, so they're like pretty weak now.
So I got to get in there and I just wasn't thinking,
open it and like went nose first and like,
almost went straight down like, oh.
So I was pretty amped, got the 400, which was a,
I think a 25 pound PR, 30 pound PR.
Oh yeah, congratulations.
Thank you.
And then-
Also, if you're Keith,
that would count as your first woodlog PR.
Yeah, absolutely.
Yeah. So that's two PRs and one.
Like we'd have to measure the length of it too, just to like, you know, and then I've got my seven
foot log PR, got my eight foot log PR, my nine foot log PR, all that.
Let's go update the spreadsheet.
And then, um, yeah, the third, third attempt, I went for a four 20 and just, I, uh then um, yeah the third third attempt I went for 420 and just I
the mess up to clean a little bit took a couple steps back and I said on my chest too long and
Weirdly holding for an instant pounds on your chest kind of wears you out. That's a squat. That's the fuck
Yeah, exactly. So I think I ended that up
Yeah, exactly. So I think I ended that up.
400 was good for Todd for third, I think.
Was there like seven or eight in your class? Twenty three. Oh, Jesus. OK, I thought it was a small.
OK, well, that's fucking even more impressive.
So they they want to.
There's 23. Yeah. And then you go down to half on the second day. Yeah.
They cut it to eight.
So like my goal was just, I figured if I was like top 10 in every event and there was, I had to make it the day too.
Yeah.
So I got third on that, uh, me and, I think me and Seth actually tied and the two
guys who want it, uh, Zach and.
Uh, I can't think of the British guy's name.
Jack, Jack. Um, I think the other British guy's name, Jack, Jack.
Um, I think they had like four 60.
So it was like a big despair.
That's a big way.
Yeah.
And so like, that's wild. So like you're literally that they had no audience to accept a little
people in that, like that had to have fucked you guys up a little bit.
Like, like you're, you're open on your second and then like, you're watching your friends get kicked out while you're trying to like, go take your third. I'm like, what the people that had to have fucked you guys up a little bit. Like like you're you're open and you're second and then like you're watching
your friends get kicked out while you're trying to like go take your third.
I'm like, what the fuck that had.
Yeah, who dropped the fifth?
That's the if that's just the expo itself or the promoters.
Obviously, they were late, but like they sounded like even if they were on time,
you would have been getting kicked out towards the third event anyway.
Like it sounds it sounds like I'm being there till fucking nine,
10 o'clock either way. Yeah, I'm not sure what they were thinking with the time
schedule they had like you look at it there's no way so I think another thing
is like the earlier groups had a lot more time like they had a lot more time
like I I think I did well I'm gonna warm up because another group was still
going but like the other two things I'll get to it but like I did. Vlogging, I gotta warm up because another group was still going, but like the other
two things, I'll get to it, but like I did not warm up at all for Deadlift or Yoke.
Yeah, it was, yeah, I'm not sure what.
I figured it'd be a little late, but I didn't think that late.
So like, yeah, we ended, so it was like eight o'clock by the time Log was done.
And they're like, we're going like as soon as the last
person drops a log, we're getting the deadlift bars out there.
And like it was us open men and open women and like open women you're going.
So from my third attempt at log to my deadlift, I think was about 15 minutes maybe 20 minutes
Our deadlift was not under pound trap bar for reps
That's what was that was that the heavier Trump or the lighter Trump?
Later. Okay. Yeah. Yeah, I think the light bar was like 780. She's
So for warm-ups for that I hit
like 400 for like two or three and like seven
Fifty for like two or three and like that and then like yeah, you're going
On that I hit tied it twice
Yeah, I had to 900 twice
I wanted three the five I go any into the event, I was thinking three to five.
I don't know why, just this, the chat bar just wasn't,
my deadlifts like weren't clicking at all.
Cause I hit 900 last year for one at Nationals.
But so I was thinking three to five,
but like all through prep, like I was like missing like reps
or just like not even, three to five but like all through prep like I was like missing like reps or
just like not even like I missed like my top program single my last week like I
didn't even budget off the ground so I don't yeah I was at the end of day I was
happy with two I wanted three I got the third one up to my knees and then funny
thing about trap bar is there's no way to like hitch.
Oh, yeah. Yeah.
So I'm like sitting there.
We just get off balanced and shit.
Yeah. All out of your hands.
I like sitting there like it's right up my knees.
I'm like, how can I hitch this?
I just went down.
But yeah, I'm not sure where that put me.
I was in top 10 for sure with two.
What was after dead lift?
So while we were going dead lift, they started the women's yoke.
Like we were like, oh, they had like half half half the lane.
Yeah, OK, OK.
That makes sense.
Yeah, because when I watched Katie's, it was like all four lanes at once or five lanes
at once.
So they started the women.
And then like when we got done,
then they moved it to four lanes again. Um,
like you saw Katie, if you watch Katie's like they did 60 feet down, 60 feet back.
For time they changed ours to 30, 30 feet down, 30 feet back.
Um,
was that a last minute change? I'm guessing.
No, well it was like before we went, they, I think they changed the middle weights
also. Okay. And our last event was a,
supposed to be like a sandbag medley whereas like about the bags were like 10
feet away, carry and load over the bar. Yeah. I saw that one.
They changed it for the middle weights to just a load and they took out,
it's supposed to be five bags. took out one bag so it's only
Four bags for them just for speed. I'm guessing like yeah, just for shit along. Okay, that makes sense
so yeah, we jumped the yoke I
Don't think there was ten minutes between
My deadlift and I yoke I picked up a 400 pound yoke and walked at ten feet. That was my warm-up
Like a like a thousand or something our yoke was 900 pounds, okay
It's only 30 feet though well twice but yeah
Yoke
I'm
Very capable of doing almost any weight, but I am not going to be fast.
Like you saw people sprinting.
Um, I, so we did it.
I ended up eighth.
I finished it in under 15 seconds, which was like my goal.
Damn.
Let's say dropped it.
I did 14.8.
Did the winner did in like 11, which is insane.
So I finished eighth and so then we had sandbags to go and they just canceled
them because we were getting kicked out of the arena at that time.
So that, that wasn't picked up the next day.
That was just a done event.
No, it's just finished.
Okay.
That makes sense.
Um, just a done event canceled canceled them Which kind of sucks?
I
Made like I made it the day too. So I'm not that upset about it cuz they're some bags were heavy as crap
and so I
Think the top sandbag was 400 pounds
It's 350 to 400 through four bags
What what what time did you guys get out of the expo there and Friday?
930 okay, so not that's why I just let it be open
I guess it was maybe security thing they probably like lock the main doors and there's like you guys can't be in here
To live the issue if you have a lot of people I don't know why I the cops so yeah
Like the cops are the ones. Oh no, like nine
Hmm. So yeah, I got my metal staff like they just enough like security and shit
They just weren't gonna let people be there unattended I guess
now how's the temperature Nicole was watching it on the updates on reddit and she said they turned off the
Heat like around like 730 or something. Oh
I mean, I'm 400 pounds. I don't really know
by the athletes, by like the athletes was like a Bay door
that like it was definitely like cold coming through that.
So it's kind of like where you were kind of.
Yeah, it was called by Chick-fil-A.
Yeah. Yeah. Well, I mean, that's kind of where we were. Yeah, it was close. Fuck over there. So I guess it was called it by Chick-fil-a yeah yeah well that's kind of where we were yeah that's a close fuck over there so I guess
it was cold I was fine yeah so I ended the day one and fifth top eight moved on
to day two so that was that was my main goal going in was getting the day to
Started day to they rearranged the points to only people that made the top eight and
That dropped me the eighth. So mmm. I was in an eighth
Yeah, yeah, just then to visit so then you had to go first on everything or at least to the next event
Yeah, yeah. Yeah, so
Another quick change they made last minute
our fifth event which was actually our fourth event
Was supposed to be a hoist lift. So it's supposed to be just a rope over a pulley
And you just like you're you're seated and seated and you're pulling
I saw people say something about a hoist, but I don't know what the fuck they were talking about.
Yeah, so supposedly.
They built like this extravagant.
Whatever that's what we were training when the meme was created.
Yeah, when you fell off the bench.
Yeah, that's that's the opportunity.
I'm mostly over here laughing at the idea of Matthew Hoistles.
Happy birthday to him, apparently.
I don't know, man.
But yeah, the rig or whatever they built was took too,
basically it took too long to put up.
And for that event, we were on the rogue like one
of the rogue stages like when the main stages the one in the middle right that
one was the one on the side they could buy the actual oh okay where XPC bench
was the day before okay yeah yeah yeah and I guess the time we had on that
stage they didn't have enough time to build it Have everyone go and then take it down. So they changed the event from a hoist lift to an axle
Clean and press away. Oh, yeah with the with so there's barred from the fireman's event
Yeah, it was the one with the big truck tires and they were bouncy. Yeah, it weren't they costar my court
Does the same like they put on bushes? Gotcha?
Yeah, so
Yeah Yeah, it was the axle with the tire the tires. Um
For us open us 325 which was kind of light
But but they said they wanted to save our biceps, especially with like max keg
after and
That's a lot because it was it was full clean and press not just a press
away so that's a lot of fun. No, no it was a press away. Okay, okay. Well it goes clean
once and then press away. Still a lot of fun work. So I started again we've been for the
past couple months been training for a max log I haven't even touched an axle since this year. Um, in my head I was thinking 10. I went out, uh, got 8. I was
the first one to go because I was the 8th. Got 8. Um, the tire, I think the tires kind
of, the big, big tires like threw off my balance a bit on a couple of other reps if you like
seen the video. I think like 9 or 10 was there if I'd like actually had practice actually more was there about practice but like
Something but yeah when I was eight wasn't sure how that do
the two people I thought would beat me dead and
Andrew Burton who won tied me so
Ended up tied third in that event.
Nice.
And that jumped me from eighth back up to fifth.
And then the last event of the day was max keg over bar.
Um, they had up to 700 pound kegs on there, which is absolutely insane.
And was that like a rising bar or just three attempts?
Like, could you, could you have done all eight?
No, it's it was just three attempts total. It was three attempts and
You got a fourth attempt. It was above the world record
What's what's the world record fucking something? No, I'd imagine
Maybe
So
Going into this event. I don't I had only trained up to 300 pounds because that's how big of
a keg my gym has.
So I was like doing weird things, uh, where they take them, like the stretching bands,
like wrapping around it and like attaching chains to the used to the keg to try to like, get a little heavier.
So I think like with the chains, the heaviest I've cleaned was like 400.
Okay.
Um, my second contest ever, like while I was still full-time crossfit before I
even had a coach or anything, I loaded a 469 keg. So like I've loaded
heavy before. But like I wasn't sure. For warm ups for that we
had a 300 pound sandbag was a warm up in the back for the keg.
So I just cleaned that like twice. And it was up there. You
called your weight you called your weight
But you called your weight and like order so like eighth place called their weight seventh. I
Opened at 450
Got a pretty easy
jumped up to 525
Got that little tough and then the next jump was
550 Got that little tough and then the next jump was 550
Because of swift other increments about 50 would have tied the world record. I got it to
Mike my hands were like almost even with the bar, but like I was still
It was like close but still forever away
Like I got I got the 550 of my chest. No one
With that I tied for first with Andrew again at 525
No one else attempted I think like two people attempted to 550
No one got it
Mark attempted 575. He actually got pretty close
because he wanted to jump the world record.
But he didn't.
Like no one really...
I don't think anyone broke a world record in any class.
Which is kind of weird.
Which, I mean, they put the last event after.
Alright, well that's...
And then so you pretty much didn't really know if you made...
So you knew what your place pretty much right after Sandbag. Right after the keg, pretty much didn't really know if you made so you knew what you place pretty much right after
Sandbar right after the keg, but you didn't really know if you were
Getting a pro card or not until later in the day and they just kind of like pick and chose how they decided that so
I don't know. I'm not trying to cut you off
I just figure you know
We got like like wrap it all up in the next couple minutes and we can kind of bounce around some more
We got a say. Oh, yeah, you're good. Yeah, basically
Yeah, basically they're
there actually announcing the
Podium and then after goes third place twenty three and a half points. I looked at Katie my fiance
I go no, I was like I did like mental math
I'm like, I can't like that's too many points like I couldn't have got there. And then they go
Tyler Thompson and like she goes like your face was just like the
craziest like surprise look. But yeah, then I walked up there.
Yeah, in a third, like I said, second was set soup, soup cup.
And first was Andrew Burton, who's going to the main show.
Seth is also an amateur
so it was like weird with their wording because just changing the pro card system to kind of make it harder to get pro cards and
It used to always be
podium got the pro cards, but like now that it's been like
Only top amateur got their pro card
Was like kind of the wording for some events.
And basically what it is at the end of the day was the Arnold is still podium.
Cause like that's their big amateur event and like all the other like programs and
nationals is just top amateur.
Gotcha.
So,
well, it's pretty cool.
So what does, what does that mean for you as far as now you can just injure bigger events that like
pro shows?
Yeah, that gets me in the program, like some core programs.
And the two main shows it gets me into is America's Strongest Man.
And I can come back to Arnold as a pro. Okay, cool. So I can come back to Arnold every year and do America's Strongest Man. Like that's the two major
shows I can enter now and then just like the pro like the programs
People put on throughout the year. Well, that's awesome. I appreciate hearing all that
Enjoy a long offseason. I hope you don't have anything planned too early.
I know I think you got some plans this summer so you're not going to be able to make it to the
lift hard to live easy. But you know, we'll see if we'll see if maybe we can get Jake out there
to try to do a 400 pound press for us as a exhibition lift. Oh yeah. Yeah, get him out there.
Nope. Nope. All right, brother. Well, stick around.
We're going to just kind of shoot the shit round table here.
I wanted you to get that story out.
Feel free to chime in as we go along the rest of it.
I just don't want to... We got to save some time for Katie's story at the end here and
kind of get to the rest of the crew we got here tonight.
So let's see.
Big Anthony, how was your first Arnold experience, buddy?
This was kind of a last minute thing for you to come out with us and then we're kind of glad you did
Uh, how how was just overall coming to Columbus seeing the great Midwest state of Ohio? How was all of that?
Yeah, uh, yeah, it was my first Arnold experience. Uh, and I think it was also big Bryce's
Bryce was that your first experience too? Yeah, so feel free to like chime in with me too
You know, this is two South Dakota boys taking over Ohio, you know, trying to see all the stuff and everything. So
yeah, it was a lot of fun. I had this plan for a little while, mainly just because it was on the
Hall of Fame checklist that I wanted to check off and everything. So finally getting the chance to
come out here and do that. But what was your plan, Bryce? I mean, why did you come out here?
I had to put in for the vacation
like six months in advance at work.
And it just so happened to also be
like the weekend of my birthday.
So I was like, well, I mean, at the very least
I'll just have like birthday off.
Like, so I'd be kind of like, kind of plan it.
And then, I don't know, a couple months ago
I was like, ask my dad if he wanted to go.
And then we just planned on like road tripping or whatever.
Yeah, pretty much the same thing,
just to get, check it off the list.
I really wanted to go for a long time,
like see the animal cage,
like is just like the coolest thing ever.
So had to go for that.
And then I thought it'd be just cool to check out.
Yeah, and you also, I mean, you did a lot more things than I did at the end.
I was just kind of hanging around, but you actually got to
lift in the animal cage.
You should talk about that for sure.
Oh, yeah, that's crazy.
It was like Saturday and we were we were walking by and
Jean-Jerkelees was like doing his big deadlift.
And some some like kid with like a beanie on and like headphones
and like a belt and like
all the stuff was like near me and i heard him ask me someone's like when's the deadlift contest
and i looked at my dad i'm like deadlift contest and he's like you should do it so then they're
like get lined up over here if you want to do the deadlift contest so i like ran over there and i was
like getting in on this and then they i was like hoping it'd be I don't know like something and they were like 315 for reps and I'm like well
that's cardio I wish it was heavier yeah I was like I'm gonna die can I do can
they're like 595 85 for reps instead or something I'm not gonna do like 40 of
the unit in 31 I think right right? Or 41, 41.
That's wild.
That is a lot of reps.
Have you ever done anything like that in training before?
I mean, I mean, I don't know.
We just go to reps 315.
And hand wrap 315.
Yeah.
No.
Yeah, that's just nuts.
I haven't done anything like that ever.
I've been good for like 12 and motive.
So I'm good.
I'm going home.
My lower back hurts hearing that
Yeah, and he did it and were those at least like flexible jeans or those just like regular tight jeans you're wearing straight up fucking blue jeans
Yeah, they're kind of flexible. Oh, yeah, that's gotta help a little bit
I had a belt on with my jeans
Like just a leather he's
Yeah, this isn't a a you know a belt fed strength the power lifting code unpaid belt
It's just a his keep his butt crack from falling out belt
Good stuff
There he's back
I'm good. I was just, uh, just trying to get a, get a pulse for everybody. I know, uh,
Anthony, were you like overwhelmed by just the sheer crowd? I mean, that was like, I
mean, I'm sure you've been like sporting events and stuff, but like, that's a lot of people
in a small area.
Oh, it's yeah. I've never been to a sporting event. That's like that where you're, you're
penguin walking through the whole thing, right? as well be mooing like your cattle moo like it sucks.
Yeah, I mean, I've I've never been to anything that big before like college football games,
they can get into, you know, 80 90,000 crowds and stuff. But again, that's not with people
on the floor and you're walking next to them and everything. So definitely a lot, a lot of people.
But the days I mean, you know, we got to hang out definitely a lot, a lot of people.
But the days, I mean, you know, we got to hang out at the booth for a lot of Saturday and that was a lot of fun just to kind of hang out and have people come
to us rather than us trying to mosey through the entire crowd. But yeah.
I think you worked the booth more than anybody else, or at least up there,
because I definitely handed people a lot of shirts, but I didn't cash anybody
out. I think you cashed out a good few grand worth of money that weekend
for him.
So yeah, no, it was it was like you, me, Hogan, James, Matt Sunling was there. We were just
like slinging drink spotters all over the place. It was yeah, it was a ton of fun. And
you know, kind of glad that Tanner and Tommy could take a little break and then go and
film some content and stuff like that.
And it was cool.
And that they let the inmates run the asylum or they broke loose, whatever he said in his
story.
But I thought that was a lot of fun and it was pretty cool to be a little part of that
and spread the Masonomics love to people.
What did you think of the booth, Bryce?
I know you've seen the Lift Hard, Live Easy, but it was seeing it next to all those other
booths was something else., but it was seeing it like next to all those other Bruce was something else
Yeah, it was like crazy. There's like all these big brands and then I mean mass dynamics is big but like you're like
Yeah, yeah, it's just weird to like see your friends like
Well, I think it was funny that that mass dynamics was right next to rain
You know and rain had these just massive lines for for you know
just an energy drink and just you know, 30 minute waits and those lines and stuff. And, and
buff chicks was right beside them too. And they had a huge line to go meet some girls
and stuff. And it was just Masonomics guys are just kind of in the midst of it, which
was hilarious.
Did you go ahead?
Oh, that was the weirdest thing to me is like, I didn't realize there just be like lines
everywhere.
Oh, yes.
People like, like, what is this a line for?
And you're like, look, it's like, oh, I kind of recognize that guy, I guess.
Or like, what's this a line for?
It's like, what the hell?
But it always blocks traffic.
You're waiting for a half hour for a $3 energy drink for free.
Like, I'll just buy like, so many like, let
me buy one somewhere from a vending machine.
Is there a lineup that shorter where I can give you money?
Yeah, I mean, I think I did get like two of them throughout the weekend, but I never got
one. If the line was more than 10 people, like I just I would just be tired instead.
It's easier to be tired.
Over by we were on show.
Man was on the other side and young.
L.A. was over there.
Young.
Oh my.
Yeah, that was wild.
Three plus hour long like lines.
Yeah.
Yeah.
For people I haven't heard of.
They had some good names there.
I think they had what John Jones, the UFC fighter.
Jay Coler was over there at some times, but then they had these.
Rodney Coleman was there too.
Yeah.
Then you had like all these tick to and stuff like I never heard of.
Like they had some of the longest lines.
Yeah. Oh, it was insane.
And then there's third meet like you all the strong men just like unified,
like we all hate young Lin out just because.
Mm hmm.
Well, it was like you were at a club the whole time.
And you know, like a smoke machine, too, or something,
because it was all smokey over there.
Yeah, probably. They're pretty well known for like sponsoring fucking anybody. Right? And like,
that's the thing is that's why all these kids flock there because it's like they want their
first sponsorship with their, you know, 400 followers. And you know, that's, I think that's
really what brings a lot of those kids there. That was another thing, like just so many like vloggers of people like I've never even seen
of or heard of or anything just walking around cameras everywhere.
Yep.
It was such a juxtaposition between the Strongman and then that booth next to it.
Yeah.
I thought it was it kind of took all the broccoli heads and kept them in one place, which was
nice when you walked everywhere else.
But I spent a great time at the Strongman area.
And I'm like, this is not my scene.
What's going on here?
Yeah, and we were like surrounded by him.
When you and I were sitting there watching Katie,
we like looked behind us and there's like,
you know, like 10 people deep watching Strongman
and then just like four rows from Youngla's booth
all the way out, like literally to 600 feet
going the other direction, it was wild.
Hogan, what did you think about their new booth setup?
You're someone that's been there
the last couple of years, I think, right?
Or like the location and just the downsize.
What's your thoughts on that?
I thought the location,
I think I heard this from everybody,
the location was so much better and I think just perfect.
Like where that is, you had a lot of open space up the side.
I mean, it was really nice when Rain finally did turn off the music because then you're kind of years
You got a break, but just that location for foot traffic
I think is great and going down to a single size booth
I think I couldn't remember what the double looked like after seeing it it compressed well
And I think it being an in-cap booth everyone could kind of still corral and hang out
I'll just off to the side.
And that wasn't really a big deal on space.
So I mean, if they can get the same spot, I don't know how that works,
but that end of the area was so much better.
Yeah, I agree.
Bryce, you bought all kinds of I feel like you were out running around
on Facebook marketplace more than you were at the expo or hanging out with crew, buddy.
I think we were. My dad. I don't know. My dad was just like,
he'd been like looking at marketplace for like a week leading up and was just
like really getting into it. He was like really pumped up about weights.
And so like we picked up some stuff on the way out there. Um,
and then like Saturday morning we woke up and he's like, Hey, because he gets up really early. I woke up
and he's like, Hey, you want to get some York hundreds? And I
was like, of course I do. So he's like, he has a 55 pound
roundhead. And I was like, for like 50 bucks. I'm like, okay,
perfect. So like we went and we scoop those up. And then it was
like, still early in the day.
And we went like, want to have breakfast at Bob Evans?
And we're like, yeah, let's do it. I mean, we got to. We're in Ohio, right?
And then we just like went down a rabbit hole and the day got away from us.
It was like three o'clock and we're like, holy shit, we're going to miss the Arnold.
Well, I mean, I think you've been hanging out with Huck Finn too long because you had
hit bench night in America and slept in the barn gym the night before, or well, two nights
before as well.
So that was pretty cool.
Was that a little bucket list experience for you hanging out with Huck Finn?
I would say so, yeah.
I mean, I met him when he slept at Mastinomics gym with him on February 1st, I think.
And then I slept in his gym like at the end of the month.
For you know, you were there for that 72 hours or, you know, 194 hours or, you know, seven
weeks.
It was actually funny.
I watched your YouTube video.
You were, I think you were there for like 16 hours or something or less.
And you said like 32 hours or something.
I got a kick out of that.
It kind of felt like it.
It was so cold up there. It was parking parking on his it was so cold yeah well I mean you got to stoke
that fire yeah I'll probably burns through the whole you probably fill it
up and it only burns for a couple hours for it burns out I bet yeah I woke up in
the night and it was like just like like embers freezing. Yeah, that wouldn't be good.
Yeah.
We got up at like 4.30 in the morning and left his house by like 5.
Did you get to meet Karen?
Yeah, I met Karen.
She's a nice lady.
Still out there dragging ink and slinging shirts.
Yeah.
Yeah, that was, Benchline America was good.
I got to see my best friend, Big Boss Man.
Yeah, he didn't hit her girlfriend this time because she wasn't there I guess no, that's why I couldn't bring her there. Yeah
Not home turf not say no, she wouldn't know what to do
Mechanic
Cowboy cam I got the bench of cowboy cam. Oh my god the fucking picture they were even talking about it on let's get stupid today
Fucking like your six seven and cams like five five or five six
Maybe I get shorter than callus in me so it might have been a little bit of perspective
I think it's a bad angle, but it was like
Yeah, I mean obviously you were significantly taller
You're damn near a foot taller than him, but the picture made it look like two feet and it was the funniest fucking thing ever and cams not a small, dude
He's like he's like 250 pounds. I think so. I was just the funniest fucking picture. I've seen in a while
I laughed so hard at that
My dad sent that picture to like one of his buddies and his friend was like damn Tim
I didn't know when you had to never sleeves on your arms were that big
Damn Tim, I didn't know when you had to have sleeves on, your arms were that big.
But yeah, that bench time in America was awesome.
Definitely a bucket list item.
I'd have to go back.
Yeah.
Might have to just move.
Well, we got some lifting in at Hogan's there.
We got to tour Hogan's gym, Antony and I,
and then Gary came over on, what's it, Friday,
and then I think Kevin came over the next
day so you had a whole gaggle of people in the gaggle gym.
It was great.
I did not know how many people we could fit in there.
I think, was it you Anthony?
You come in and you're like, you were Kevin.
You make it look bigger than it is in real life.
Yeah.
Cause it's a very small one stall garage.
It is much smaller than it looks in the camera.
I think being a five five guy,
I'm definitely not adding to the height in that room.
So I'm impressed we fit as many people as we did.
Hey, according to Instagram and discord. We are all over six feet
That's that's I mean I have I have
Photographic proof. Oh, yeah
That was a really good though the night got crazy. There was a lineup at some point. That's where we got that from
And I still can't believe Gary bought those spot dumbbell spotter arms off
So you want to tell the Gary story real quick and like, yeah, so I think I posted in the discord, like, I had these black widow, like V one dumbbell trays,
and when I got the pepins, they could work with it, it just wasn't great. And so I was going to
sell them and probably also pay for the black widow neural axle that I got. And he was interested in
them. And I cut them a crew deal. And he's like, oh, when I come from the Arnold,
I'll pick them up.
And I go, sure thing, man.
And I didn't think anything of it.
I'm not gonna plan out the logistics.
And he shows up and he's got what looks to be
two small duffel bags to fit these in.
And these are not small items, nor are they light items.
And his plan was to check them in his luggage
and bring them home that way.
And I'm like thinking of Bryce and your pickups
if you started throwing the hundos in your suitcases.
Like how, like I didn't realize what he was,
like he flew and I mean, of course he did.
He's from, I think he's in California.
So that makes sense.
But also I just didn't give him much thought.
And I remember I was messaging him after and he was like,
you know, all the doubt really started to get to me I
Started to think they wouldn't fit either but I persevered and they made it
So they he got him home there there and the we don't they're not ours we just we just borrow them. So they're
Just our turn with them. It's our turn
Yeah, I had a little I was able to get Kevin was able to graciously bring the I had a little, I was able to get,
Kevin was able to graciously bring the log to Hogan,
so I was able to get my log.
I'm excited to get some use on that one,
but I did not have to put it in a carry on.
So I'm not sure how Gary managed that with all his stuff,
but that was hysterical.
Did you have anything to stir Chris Dumbbell?
I don't know why I'm blanking.
No, he, they wanted me to come Saturday night
and we were literally out till fucking midnight.
So that wasn't going to happen.
And then they were gone by the time, like they were basically telling me they were going to hit the road by six or seven.
And I didn't leave your house till seven and they were a half hour the other direction.
So I just told them, uh, the Travis and Stuart and West Virginia, I'm going to my parents in like two months.
So I'll pick it up then on the holiday weekend, hopefully.
So it's, it's still not in my possession, but it wasn't worth like trying to go get
an Uber to your house at like seven o'clock and miss the entire Saturday night
shenanigans, which we'll probably get to in a bit, but we should break.
Let's actually hit, break down the Arnold a little bit before we can get
to some of the after hour stuff.
So I don't know, uh, Anthony, just the itinerary, what, what'd you do Friday?
What just, uh, you know, I know what we did, but I mean, was it anything,
was Friday anything we missed?
We, we watched some powerlifting
We went to some booths. We hung out. We watched the sisters do some videos and whatnot and Friday night
We didn't go do we do it was there any after all Friday night dinner?
Hit Friday night. Yeah talk to us about Friday night dinner and that was actually a really cool experience for me
Yeah, that was um, I don't know what time we left the expo
It was we got kicked out by the by the cops that came. Yeah. For sure. Walking us all through and everything. So we shut down the booth, um, with some of the
crew. We left the expo and it was late, so we were all getting pretty hungry. And I'm
not sure how we met up with, uh, the plan was to get some supper after the expo and,
uh, Basement Brandon was with us. No way Jose was with us. Uh, James, the occupational
therapy's therapist was with us. And yeah, was with us, James, the occupational therapist,
was with us.
And yeah, I'm not really sure how that whole group got together, but we all decided that
Shake Shack sounded good.
And we walked over that way and had some had some supper all together.
And yeah, we didn't do too much with that.
I know Brandon was with us and I'm not sure if I'm missing anyone else.
Yeah, O'Doyle rules. Yep. Yeah. Yeah. So you and holding obviously. Yep. So yeah, it was just nice. We
just had some had some supper and we were just talking around for a little bit and then Brandon,
you know, it's getting past his bedtime. So he had to get going. And yeah, it was kind of cool
because then Jose was talking a little bit with me and you, you know, you're asking him for some
pointers about my upcoming powerlifting meet and giving us some first first person advice
and everything.
So that was kind of nice to hear from from Jose.
And but after that, we just oh, I guess I can probably switch it over to Hogan because
that's when we walked or no, that was the next night.
It's a good time.
It's still a good story if you want to.
Yeah, it's because I don't want to tell the story because it's funnier
if it comes from the third party or a different party's perspective.
Yeah, so this wasn't Friday night, but it was Saturday night
after we were all done with the eagle.
And again, it was late and we couldn't get a hold of Hogan's wife.
And so we graciously were offered a ride from Big Paul,
who we all finally got to meet.
Big Paul, too, I think is his name in the Discord.
Yeah, he said he's got a car that's not too far away.
And so we were like, yeah, sign us up.
We'll definitely go over for that and take that ride from him.
And I'm not sure how far of a walk it was.
And I'm not sure what he promised us, it was a very very long walk and it was
like temperature was like 14 degrees and so you know for someone that's not really used
to that kind of weather and the wind it was definitely not a good experience so I know
Keith was dragging behind in the back there and what you the attire you all wore because
we leave the house well so Friday it was like 40 fucking degrees Friday and I was like cool. It's gonna be a nice warm weekend
I'm wearing shorts and t-shirt all weekend
and then I didn't necessarily process Saturday's weather because
Hogan or Kevin brought my log and then I pretty much like had to leave right after that
So I didn't like check the weather channel necessarily
He's a t-shirt and shorts. Yep, and we Antonis and a long like a sweatshirt with a t-shirt and shorts, and an Antonis and a long sweatshirt with a t-shirt under
it, and shorts.
And so, feels like 14, braving that.
The line that killed me, and what I heard was different when Keith said, but Keith,
what did you say when we were walking? Because this was so, it was a solid 15 minute walk,
like minimum and 15, it was 15 and 15.
It was 15 degrees minimum, you know, max,
and it was 15 fucking minutes more.
And I said, this was towards the end of it
after Paul kept saying, it's just right up ahead.
And I'm like, I just started doing like a monologue
of a 40 year old New York man found found dead frozen on the fucking streets of the Columbus
Expo something of that agree, but Hogan didn't hear that he thought he heard an iteration of that
That was still funny as well
But I was freezing I couldn't feel my shins or my forearms at that point like at all like it was it was bad
Like I've been cold before and I've done some stupid shit, but that takes the cake on both of them probably yeah
It was it was cold. I didn't realize how cold you actually were, I guess, you know, until we
we got to the parking garage where Paul left us for a couple of minutes to go
get his car. But yeah, I'm pretty sure you parked on the fucking roof of the
parking garage. Yeah.
Seven minutes till I came back down.
Yeah. And so it was really funny because Hogan gave you his his jacket
and we had you go pose like out in the street in the wind after
you said that you're freezing.
Yeah, the jacket probably helped a little bit, right?
I was wearing a backpack, so my back was at least warm.
So I put the hoodie on just like backwards just to cover my arms up for like the last
two minutes of the walk.
And they both found that to just be the funniest thing ever and proceeded to take pictures
of me.
And Hogan's phone was dead, so then he made me give him my phone to then pick the fake pictures of me,
which I'll post later because I was saving those for the,
I just look what he said. He was like,
cause it was a basement Brandon hoodie and it's got the naked squatter huge in
the front. You just see that. And then I think keep someone's like, uh,
Brandon saving Keith's life right now or something like that.
Oh, it was the coldest I've ever been. But yeah, that was,
that was the funniest thing I think I explained. now or something like that. I was the coldest I've ever been. But yeah, that was that was the funniest thing.
I think I explained it was funny after that wasn't so much funny in the fucking moment,
but I knew it would make a funny story.
So but yeah, I should have thrown my sweatshirt in my backpack.
And did you did you end up telling your wife that story?
I know you said that she probably would appreciate that.
And she's definitely asleep and she won't listen to this podcast.
So I think I'm in the clear.
No, I you guys were shocked when I said that. Cause I was like, if Stephanie
finds us out, she's gonna be so pissed at me for like putting myself in a
potentially dangerous position.
Another five minutes. I was about ready to just like, oh, it was bad. It was very
bad. But we would've all been fine. But it was, yeah, it makes for a funny story.
But yeah, I don't know. We've missed much.
I mean, I do want to talk about some of the Saturday nights.
I'm just trying to think of anything really happened
Saturday during the day.
Me meeting Brandon was awesome.
Like I've been talking to basement Brandon
for literally like seven or eight years,
like regularly in DMs and whatnot.
So finally meeting him in person
was probably the coolest person I haven't met, I guess.
Like he's definitely still crew two.
He has always been a supporting member.
I personally met, I don't know,
close to a dozen new crew probably.
People that I've either, some people I didn't know at all
and like couldn't tell you if I know them on Instagram either
and then other ones like, like I've finally met
like the Alabama contingency, contingent contingency,
whatever the fuck.
The love lady brothers and a cousin, I think it was, I met all them,
uh, forgot to ask him if one of them had a tattoo.
Cause I keep on, I've said that like nine times on the podcast cause I
think I thought one of them did, but I've completely biffed on remembering that.
Um, but yeah, I just met a ton of, ton of new crews.
That was, that was the funnest part for me.
Like we'd literally hung out at the booth.
Like I did like two or three, you know, I think I did like five laps over
both days around the whole expo and watch just watched two or maybe two hours a strong man
Watch most of Katie's show
Never made it back over to Tyler's because well
I'm glad I didn't even waste time because it literally didn't happen. We were even in the fucking venue
Didn't get a chance to watch Bryce in the cage
But yeah, I literally was like was, so if I was in the
expo for 10 hours, I was at Mastanomics booth for like six of it, probably
watched a good bit of, uh, USA PL powerlifting just because.
Friday was nice.
Cause it was like, it was, it was master.
So like the seating was only three quarters full.
So you could always go sit over there and have it like a rest
your feet for a half hour.
Uh, if you tried to do that Saturday, it wasn't an option because it was the open and it was just fucking a madhouse
So I didn't really get to watch anybody compete over there that day. Um a lot a lot of other crew competed, too
we had a big Matt Cessny and big Eddie competed in the
WPPL Dave's Dave's off-campus show and then
Matt Sunderland competed at XPC at the venue.
And then we'll get to Katie in a little bit, unless you can tell her story.
I think if anybody else can think that might be everybody that competed.
Uh, no, Nas and Brandon competed in USAPL.
Anybody, I don't know if anybody else was crew that competed, but yeah,
that was like six crew or so that, uh, put in some work.
So that was really cool.
And I heard, you know, Dave, you know, from everything I saw and heard dave put on a good meet as always dave and katie so it was fun
um yeah somebody else uh bryce what else what else didn't we talk about um kick us off on
uh saturday night where would we go out to dinner or anything what happened yeah saturday before
you irish goodbye to everybody you fuck hey Tanner was a total
We went to the Eagle and
Me my dad got like a couple chickens, I think we ate a couple chickens and then
I don't know we hung out with the Eagles. They were there a couple hours
Yeah, then they like kind of did they shut down like the upstairs part and it was just a ball of officers. Well, yeah
Hogan you want to say I don't want to I don't be the only one. Yeah, I know I know what happened but I don't know I just know we had to leave
Yeah, we just left and we were gonna go to a bar and then we proceeded to literally bar hop as in just walk into
bars and turn around and leave
Probably the four or five different bars.
It was, it was literally four.
We ended up back up in the Eagle bar, which at the very beginning, Tanner or
Tommy, one of them just goes, maybe we can just go down to the Eagle bar.
It looked like it in a nice spot.
And we ended up all the way back at the Eagle.
Um, I didn't want to miss this because this was a great experience of, so Paul
does a reservation and he figured out that whole mess, um, because open table and I went to go do it wasn't really cooperating.
I go, we go to the front and he told us that at least I saw in the discord,
he put it under Edmund Fitzgerald.
And so I look at this guy and he's like, what's the reservation for?
And I go, Edmund Fitzgerald and he goes, nothing for it.
And then I go, try Paul and he goes, yep, got. And then I go, try Paul.
And he goes, yep, gotcha.
And I was like, yeah, I asked him later and he's like, yeah, I booked for both. And they just combined them and took out the Edmund Fitzgerald one.
And so, um, we ended up, we ended up just being there for the
remainder of the night and then, uh, give he keys, some hypothermia.
If only he had done the reservation for 26 under Edmund Fitzgerald.
We filled that whole party room.
We couldn't even fit everybody, unfortunately.
Yeah, it felt bad.
It was barefoot.
They kind of showed up like 20 minutes into it and there was no room for them because
the reservation was for already 20 and we are already over 20 so
I think they just ate at the bar right outside, but I think they were pretty smoked and wanted to get out
But that was cool. I got it
I talked to them
I talked to Shelby and Ryan a good bit actually that was funny
It took me like 20 minutes to get a picture with Shelby and Ryan because they were both so big
It's even like this is like a 630 when there was like shouldn't have been too many people there
And it's like when Shelby was free and I was talking to her Ryan was dealing with a customer and then I like I literally talked to Shelby for like 15 minutes and then I was like Ryan's not done with a customer and I just walked back to Mastinomics came back it was like the opposite so then like hey basically I think it literally took me a half hour by the time I actually we got a nice little photo shoot with them just cuz I was trying. Was Blake there and would you have known? I don't know and no I've never seen a picture of it. There were a few other people working the booth with them,
but they were busy.
I think they, I hope they sold a lot of shoes
because they were, every time I walked by that booth,
they were letting someone try on shoes all weekend.
I think the only thing we missed was we did inadvertently,
well, I wouldn't say inadvertently,
I would have cared less,
but we didn't leave because it was a gay bar,
we left because they would let anybody in with backpacks and
they were going to make us all put their backpacks in a room. But, you know, one of someone had
a coin box with them that couldn't be left unattended basically. So we couldn't know
one was going to leave their backpacks. So, but that was a, yeah, that was an experience.
I, you know, put that off the hall of fame checklist of been in a gay bar for you know ninety seconds.
What.
I don't go to regular i don't go to.
I'm still there for key yeah that's what i'm wondering like oh. I was just an experience I've never had. I don't have a whole lot of new experiences as a near 40 year old man.
So now I can say I've been in a gay bar.
That's nice.
I'm still not convinced it was a gay bar.
I think it was just a very progressive downtown Columbus bar.
I remember one of them that walked, Anthony's like looking around in amazement.
He goes, I've never walked in a city at night before.
It was very sweet.
I was like, aw.
Pretty big.
I was looking up.
I was like, oh, it was're very sweet. I was like aww. Pretty big. I was looking up.
I was like, oh, it is.
You know, it was really nice.
It's so great.
We're definitely, you could tell.
When did everyone go to bed?
We didn't get back to Hogan's till after midnight or right at midnight, I think, I believe.
But I think we pretty much, the Eagle closed at midnight and we all kind of moseyed out of there by 1130 or so, I think.
Maybe even 1145.
So I think you guys.
Bryce, your puffin is sending me off, but I need a selfie of you with that puffin.
Yeah, that thing.
Yeah, because I got, I was breathing louder.
No, I've got a picture here too.
Like, it's killing me because yeah, I've got puffin pictures in the house too.
Oh dude, you gotta see the best wall.
Yup.
Alright, we're all walking with Bryce.
Just caricatures of us from the fair and then coneheads.
Is that Big Boss Man?
That's my best friend Keith. that's one of the best friends
Welcome big hot
Well, does anybody else well like I want Katie to get a chance to tell her venue story
I know Joey had some stuff. He wanted to talk about does anybody else
Friday Saturday the Arnold in general. Hogan stuck
around for Sunday. That's the one thing I didn't I know you
get you got some cool pictures with some cool guys. Were you
at the booth all day Sunday too? And we we were watching the
strongman all the events on on Sunday. And then we did some in
between some walking around and Nicole came and so she got to
check that off her card. And then we brought Steve our bearded dragon
And that is how you get to meet and skip lines for all your favorite strongman
I have an amazing picture with Tom Stoltman and Bobby Thompson away with the
Tom holding Steve and Steve's kind of a big lizard. I think but talk about making a guy look small. He looked tiny
On on Thomas. That's a great. It's a great picture. We got but besides that we mostly just kind of I
Gave her the crash course on here's what young low looks like. Here's what this looks like. So then that was about it though
I love that like we mostly refused to say young LA and like I had never heard of him until that and you know that
Evening or till you know for and I was like alright. When I first
heard it I said I heard the Young LA booth and I go who's that? Because they
very much sound like an influencer name because I mean lots of influencers have
booths and I look at we get back there and I go oh this is like a million
dollar booth at least it was massive it is ridiculous. I think one of my favorite things to watch was the rematch of Anthony and Mathias and how close it was so anyone they had a head to head at the grip challenge in crew falls you guys have the exact same time or within a half second or something there was something to where there was kind of a.
of a a run back after the you know one of the one of the grip events so you guys did a you know a left hand right hand I think there and I think he edged
you out like very smartly and then you guys had a rematch this weekend and you
did like one whatever it was 139 and he did 140 or whatever you guys literally
you you had whatever and a half and he had like the next increment.
So like literally a half a pound or something
from what I recall.
Yeah, I got like damn.
I got 140 on the dynamometer and he got 141.
Yeah, that's what it was.
And so he won the second round of that.
I won in crew falls and he won this one.
So we're doing that tie breaker at the best of three
at Lyft Hard Livy Z.
Nice, we have to make sure he makes it out
I don't think he literally just just on the wait list now because I don't think is his wife
Was expecting him to go back out from what I gathered from our conversation with her
Yeah, he was saying that he's gonna make it out specifically for this tiebreaker best of three
So at least yeah, we still do now. Yeah, he's got doesn't if he doesn't you win like that by forfeit a forfeit is a loss
So yes, you know
You know, it was kind of fun. We got to make a little cameo at the end of that video that Masonomics just put out
So go check that was it. That was a that was a good video
Yeah, a lot of crew a lot of a lot of really strong people. I think the high was like to
Yeah, it was something like that. That's the ginger Hercules dude. he had like 202 or 203.
And then what tracked a lot was like,
a lot of people were writing that one seven,
like 160 to 175, like a lot of strong guys.
And people you thought would be higher weren't,
and people you thought would be lower.
I think like Bryce kind of underperformed there,
didn't you buddy?
Didn't you have like 140 or something?
Weren't you on the little low?
I mean, you beat me, but I don't think you were,
do you remember which you got on the little low I mean you beat me but I don't think you were you know which which you got on the on the grip strength yeah I got like 135 oh man that is
I got like 150s but like that thing's probably was it probably broken by how many people oh it's
super I hope Tanner like I mean I mean, if you're,
that might be worth investing, like, the $200 in the not shitty one.
In a nice one, yeah.
Like, but I think, I think it's like 500
for the not shitty one, which was probably obnoxious.
But if there's like a two, $300 one, like, I mean,
you might make that much money on this particular YouTube.
I don't know how much they make,
but like, it would be cool to have a, I don't know,
because I don't know how time it's they make, but like it would be a cool to have a, I don't know, cause I don't know how accurate it is.
Like if it's consistently giving you a accurate readout,
like if you go like five times a week at your peak,
if it's gonna even be close or if it's like, if you're,
you know, I don't know.
Yeah, it's, it gives you something to work on Bryce.
Yeah, I don't know.
You gotta, you gotta buy one and start training, bud.
For what?
I can still hold on to deadlifts, fine. I don't care you gotta you gotta buy one to start training but for what?
Did they get you after you deadlifted in the cage
No, because I could I could have figured like that. Well, you should have said I mean he he said yes And that's why his grip. Yo, you know, he
Know I just um, that's probably the one word I can beat Bryson now
I guess just drinking too many beers with Huck Finn all weekend, I guess.
Yeah.
So, uh, I gotta say, like, one of the biggest things I missed is obviously
seeing crew the second is like hanging out with Huck Finn.
He was so drunk the whole time.
Every time.
Like, so the, the first year I was there was my first week you're meeting him and I was like,
this guy's a lot, but I'm able to like match energy with Huck. And then the second year I come in,
he stops me on the way in, Karen recognizes me right away. And then me and Huck are just like
partying. But again, I was going to point it out that like without strength co without huck fin there
right I the two years I went at least when I was there I was like constantly going between them
I had something to do like I would go hang out at the strength co and I would go deadlift over
there and I would go hang out with huck none of them were there this year so it's kind of
you know you guys saying like you hung out at massinomics for six hours out of the 10 and I was just like, I was never
anywhere for more than 20 minutes at any point the two years I was there. So
that's kind of wild. It was a really different experience from the day I was
there in 23, but I wouldn't say it was better or worse. It was just different. I
still enjoyed it immensely. Who's someone you guys met, it could be crew or not
crew, who's someone that you met that you'd you know
You were just super excited to meet with anybody have one of those experiences
Pogan's you mean well meeting Tom was probably pretty cool and Bobby. All right. Yeah, I'm all the pro Brandon
I think I think it was really great just to finally meet Paul
Yeah, Paul saved our ass. I got a big shout out to him. So that was great. He's my Columbus
neighbor.
I mean, if he lived, you could actually try to persuade him to come over and get a lift
in with you. I mean, if he's close enough.
Yeah. And I gotta get it here from Sam again so we can get another...
Sam, if you listen to this, you disappoint me, buddy. How the fuck do you live in Columbus
and not put an appearance in? Even if you just came out to you disappoint me, buddy. How the fuck do you live in Columbus and not put an appearance in?
Even if you just came out to dinner with us,
just be like Paul, don't go to the fucking Arnold.
But like, you had literally 40 plus crew in your backyard.
I don't know.
I mean, I don't know if you work on weekends
or you're doing your dad stuff, I guess.
But like, you could have snuck away for a couple hours
and come hang out with us, bud.
So maybe next year.
Anthony, did you meet anybody? I know you tried to get a I know you was a couple different youtubers you
were like our Instagram people you're like oh shit I want to get a picture with
that guy and then I think you did you said you end up catching one of them at
the end or yeah there was a couple Instagram people that you know had popped
up or whatever and I've followed for a while and I tried to snake a picture
with a few of them but they were off going up to different booths and stuff I
did run into this one youtuber that I've watched. He doesn't have that many
subscribers. So it was just really random and kind of cool to see him there. He just
makes gym videos and stuff and really, really cool cinematic videos. Brandon, that was,
that was probably one of the coolest things. It was really surprising too. I knew that
he was competing at the Arnold, but I had no idea that we would all just kind of bump into him
while he's doing warmups and stuff,
and that also he would join us for supper at the end there.
So that was probably one of the coolest things.
Yeah, I would agree.
I've been meeting Brandon.
I've been talking, probably the second person
I've talked to the mic,
I've been talking to No Way Jose for years as well.
So meeting him was cool.
Ran into Jake and Kyle,
garage him experiment in Kaizen,
but I've met them multiple times.
But I think of other like, I didn't get to meet like,
there was no like this huge big famous person.
I did take a picture of someone with Dan Green,
which was kind of cool.
I didn't really get a chance to talk to Dan Green,
but it was when I was walking away from the power lifting,
like someone was like, he was like,
oh shit, Mr. Green, can you mind if I take a picture?
I know you're probably coaching, I'm sorry,
I want to take a second kind of thing.
And then there was like no one there to take a picture.
And he was like, gonna do a selfie.
And I was like walking by, I was like,
just give me your phone, I'll take a picture of you, bud.
But other than that, I don't know,
it was just a good time.
Two days might be overwhelming enough to like make me go,
like I think one day would, I, if I was to do it again, I would either
pay the extra money and get the strongman ticket and actually have like a full day of
like being occupied and then just do the crew hang out the booth day to two freedom days
where there's nothing really scheduled specifically.
I wouldn't say it's boring, but it's hard to like, to not have an outline of the day.
So I would either do just a one day or like specifically have something to
occupy like three quarters of the other day.
Uh, that would be my one suggestion maybe for, for someone coming new is don't
just free ball it for two days.
Yeah.
I also felt this year was like a lot worse than last year, just people wise.
Yeah, I think there was a lot more people there this year, like maybe even
pre COVID, I don't know like quite how big it was, but it was, there's definitely way more people there than last year. And kind of like you were saying earlier, like
strength kill wasn't there. Like Huckford didn't have a booth. I felt like the booths were
a lot weirder, like random, like the only, like, that was a still wasn't there. There's just like random boosts.
I felt like not like normal ones you'd see.
Did that card company show up this year?
Hmm. Yeah, OK. So no, I don't know.
I wasn't there.
There was one that just never showed up two years ago or something.
Is that what we're talking about? Yeah.
Yeah. Actually, it was last year.
It was like, was it last year?
I'm not like some card company, was the pickle juice company there?
Yeah, like cards like trading cards or like greeting cards no legit trading cards. Is it? Yeah, if you look at the map
The math there's a trading card company that's that always shows up and there always signs up and I've never seen there
card company that's that always shows up and there always signs up and I've never seen there.
Also, there is like it's always there's a couple of booths like with 10 or Tommy talking
about how much it is to have a booth there.
I'm just like, what are you doing here?
Yeah, exactly.
Like there's like those.
It's like you're not even selling anything.
Like why are you here?
The jacuzzi's.
Yeah, where the jacuzzi's there was there people?
There's rain gutters, rain gutters, rain gutters are always there. The Jacuzzis. Yeah. Were the Jacuzzis there? Was there people?
There's rain gutters.
Rain gutters.
Rain gutters are always there.
Yeah.
Last year there was Jacuzzis set up over by the medieval place.
The medieval people were there.
Yeah.
I didn't see them at all.
I didn't see that.
Oh man.
Yeah.
It sounds like, you know what?
I picked a good year to miss.
It was interesting.
We walked around a little bit.
We saw a foosball upstairs. Yeah, so they have oh, yeah
Yeah, cuz you like this is something we never talk about they have like pole dancing in other rooms. They have the slab competition
There's the foosball and the ping-pong upstairs
Yeah, those are always I never hung out and watched them but like yeah, sometimes you wonder like what are you doing here?
Right my dad and I my dad and I got a shirt for my sister.
That's like, it's like a really like cool Arnold logo.
And then it's a foosball tournament under it.
Oh, hell yeah.
So sick.
And then on the front, it's like a T like a tornado kind of.
And it's like got fire in a soccer ball.
Like tornado foosball or something.
I don't know.
We got her the shirt.
She wanted a shirt.
So we got her a foosball tournament shirt. And that't know. We got her the shirt. She wanted a shirt. So we got her a foosball tournament shirt. That's that's good. That's legit. Speaking
of shirts, everyone like beg them to sell you the shirt also. Like we had to like find
someone and they're like, I don't know, like $20. And we're like, we only take cash. We're
not even supposed to be here. We just.
Anthony, did we were able to fit all of
Garrett's clothes in your carry on, because I think he had him.
You had to buy, you know, more than more than a couple of things for him.
Like like normal, Garrett put in a big order.
You know, he's he's known for just having these massive orders. And there was no different at the Arnold and Good deals, you know with the shirts and everything and so I I said, yeah
I'd be willing to to pick up some for you. And so yeah, everything fit in my carry-on, but it was definitely
Snug everything is my personal item was packed. I wish you do a little sticker talk
I was anyone listen to the other help podcast bright touch based on it
But from our perspective, obviously,
they had literally thousands of stickers
they were gonna give away.
They were told not to,
that they're gonna get a small fine,
and then later in the day they were told,
really don't, we'll fucking ding you 200 bucks a piece.
So then they didn't give out stickers at all
to anyone except like real,
if they didn't recognize you that you were crew
and they knew you, you did not get a sticker.
So they probably only gave out a couple hundred. I'd be lucky if they gave out recognize you that you were crew and they knew you like you did not get a sticker So I think they probably only gave out a couple hundred
I'd be lucky if they gave out a hundred stickers that weekend
So I think Tanner said he's gonna literally give them out for like the next few months until they're gone
So that sucks. I mean what worst case you're out a few hundred dollars on stickers probably but uh, you know
I was just the whole the whole thing was funny and I think he had like you got
First name bases now with basically like the number two at the Arnold
No, no, no pun intended. These are hilarious. But if I see them stick it around the venue
I'll try to $200 removal fee for every single one
And that would have been enough to like if someone gave Tanner a $3,000 bill
He just wouldn't go to the Arnold again
I think like I think they just wouldn't pay it at that point
and just be like, nah, spite, fuck you, kind of thing.
Yeah, I agree.
But I enjoy the new shirts I got.
Oh, so I'm in the color comfort now for the first time.
I missed the first.
I was a late adapter, adopter,
because change is wrong.
But yeah, the color comforts, I've got three of them now.
Love them all.
Fit great.
They all fit slightly different from each other. They are not the same shirt, same blank, but yeah, the color comforts, I've got three of them now. Love them all. Fit great. They all fit slightly different from each other.
They are not the same shirt, same blank, my ass, but they fit a
bigger person much better.
Yeah, I agree.
I'm not even a bigger person.
And yeah, I, I, I, I like was not going to buy anymore.
My stomach's t-shirts, just the way they fit me.
Yeah.
Big 400 pound person. And then they came with those and I bought almost everyone since they've came out
All right anyway, I think we'll get into Katie here in a minute Elizabeth to go around the table
Make sure everyone's got their piece said. Yep. Anybody else?
Hogan you good. Oh
Any last-minute stories? Yeah, I had one one more thing because we got to try both the Pancake House and the original Pancake House.
And so that was a good adventure.
The original Pancake House in Columbus, twice as expensive, twice as bougie, and it's good, but oh my gosh, the Sioux Falls ones was much more.
Yeah, it was a great time. It was definitely a letdown in comparison to Sioux Falls
It was still great food, but I did not expect to pay that much money compared to what I paid for it in Sioux Falls
And then the menu is completely different too. Like they didn't have like the staple five egg omelet for like eleven dollars
It was get a fucking two egg omelet for like twenty24 it wasn't that bad but it was still pretty bad
you still got your syrup and butter it's just a much smaller portion
Jesus christ it's fucking like three days in a row three years but i'd uh yeah it was uh
a bit of chicken parm i don't know i don't eat chicken parm anymore the joke's not funny it's
dead now so fuck you guys fuck all you guys nope you can't kill that joke I don't eat chicken parm anymore it's
for you raised from my palate that's not a thing that's consumed anymore a Friday
before I competed with the off-guarding got the chicken farm
for you actually what do you think of that you I know Tyler you did you did the
Waffle House we thought we were gonna have a little run-in with you but then
we were like yeah there's three locations There's no way he's over here.
And like this suburb.
No.
Yeah.
What did it decide a town?
I thought it was good.
It was a little overpriced, but very good.
Um, my girlfriend or fiance is, uh, gluten free and their entire
menu could be making them free.
So like, that was a big selling point for that.
Oh, nice.
Cause she told me it's just hard to find breakfast food
Especially like pancakes that's gluten-free
Nice Bryce anything else you want to hit on?
All right, Bryce
Bryce is good. Go follow Bryce's YouTube channel. He's got all kinds of new shit
If you want to know anything about Bryce he posted, you know, he posts everything except him taking a shit
I think on YouTube nowadays, so
He posts everything except him taking a shit I think on YouTube nowadays. So
Some subscribers make sure it's mic'd up to mic'd up
69 subscriber Anthony which what you got in closing here before we
Hit the last couple rounds. Yeah, I had a good time meeting everyone I think that was probably the highlight of the trip is just seeing a lot of crew, you know, that we interact with on Discord and actually getting to see them in person, even if it was for just a little time.
Tyler, I don't think I didn't get to run into you. Unfortunately, Katie, I didn't run into you either.
You know, just our paths didn't cross while I was there. But, you know, I followed you guys' stuff and you guys did great and
everything.
Hopefully, we get to meet each other in the future sometimes.
But yeah, to all the crew that we did get to meet, that shout out to everyone.
Yeah, it was a good time.
I would definitely go back again.
That was a fun time.
Mad Fientist...
Nice.
Was the couch that Hogan let you sleep on probably better than any sleeping arrangements
at the crew Airbnb except Matt Suttonling, who got the one better than any sleeping arrangements at the crew Airbnb
except Matt Sutton.
Yeah, who got the only bed?
Yeah, I can only imagine that the couch that I was on was much better.
That was the best sleep that I've ever had in Ohio.
I slept hard.
Oh, and I will thank Hogan.
So Hogan and his partner have the best fucking spare bedroom mattress I've ever slept on
in my life.
I've never slept in someone's like quote unquote spare room that wasn't just like a piece of
plywood bed basically.
It was the most comfortable bed I think I've ever slept in outside of like my bed which
is way too expensive.
So appreciate you guys going the extra mile there buddy because that was a win in my book.
Yeah, we'll start taking reservations now for next year.
Ah shit. You mean it's not already reserved for you know party honey cut? I think you
mean auctions. Oh yeah, yeah. The first one's free and then uh. And then you pay double the
next time. Now you've got to get them limited edition blue lift shorts. You
can't pull those off you ain't coming. I guess I'll do it. I hardly know her. I guess I'll do my Instagram stuff after Katie.
Oh, either work. No, Katie, I beer. He's sitting here patiently. We heard about your cats and you
haven't said anything since you came in with a Jeff hot mic. That was great cat or cat food emergency
and then disappeared. Did we lose Anthony already? No. Uh, he said he would hop off. I was going to
tell him not to worry about it. If he want to stay out man, he's gone.
If he's still around he can get back on.
Yeah, sorry about the hot mic.
So I came in to log on feed the cat that my husband remotely fed
the cat from the other room.
So we can't have Big Pepper getting too big.
So I had to deal with that situation.
That's fair. So we heard about Tyler's experience with the late starts and
all the last second changes. So tell us about your event because you did pretty well, I understand.
I did good enough. So one advantage to being a lightweight woman is you almost always go
first.
Um, so there was one class lighter than me, but they had the two lightweight
women and then the two lightweight men classes.
So we started on time as the first people to go and they let us do all the
events as originally planned.
So I got to do four events and in the way I'd been training them.
So real quick, Max log was the first one.
I got like a 140 and then I lifted the Slater log which was 158 pounds empty
and then I kind of yoloed it and went for 178 which I've never hit
before and cleaned it twice, could not press it. Slater logs are awesome. I would
really like to get one of those. Felt much easier to clean which was kind of a
surprise to me but I wanted to lift the Slater log so I accomplished that. It was like mid pack on the log.
Little confusion in the back about reordering but they were doing the best
they could. What was next? Oh trap bar dad left. So on the Kabuki
trap bar I went straight for the lightweight because my 138 pound self was
not going to pick up a 440 pound track bar.
That's like my best possible kind of deadlift scenario.
And that wasn't going to happen.
A lot of the women in my class got it.
I did five reps that counted.
I did get a sixth rep, but like my brain shut off at the end
and I dropped the bar so it didn't count. So I've been saying I got five reps on the
score sheet, six in my heart. I only expected to get like three. So that was a pleasant
surprise. Pretty happy with that. And I went to the Arnold and didn't get last on a deadlift event, which I expected to get
last.
So that worked out.
Yoke.
So I had a 440 pound yoke and we actually ran it the 60 feet that was originally planned
down and back.
I made it 90 feet in the minute.
I finished that run in training. So that was a little bit of a surprise. I made it 90 feet in the minute.
I finished that run in training so that was a little bit of a surprise.
It just I picked up 440 pounds and surprised it felt heavy.
The yokes seemed a little wider than what I'm used to but yeah Hogan and I were talking
with us at a good bit like it although all the all the women had a well Every when you guys were going with a wide grip
It seems like your fucking shoulders were getting like hyper extended because it was so wide and then I saw a couple of the competitors
Go with more like I like a squat like literally put it where you'd like be squatting for hand placement
But then it almost seemed like it was swaying more that way. It didn't seem like there was a good
With you the women being this your class being your stature, it did look like you were
at overall disadvantage.
I can imagine that is a bigger yoke than what you have at your house.
I think so.
I don't know what the width is.
It felt like it, I actually tried to switch grip on the way back to see if that would
help and it does.
It swings so much more than like I switched, I tried it. And then I just went back to the sides because that's how I've always done it.
And just kept walking as far as I could with all that weight on my back.
We were screaming.
That was a bit of a disappointment, but I still was not last.
So that was still accomplishing my goals.
And then the fourth event was sandbags.
So we actually got to do all five bags and they staggered them like the events were described. So I started with 150 pound who's a fellow that a 200 regular bag and then a two 25 who's a fell. I got the first four bags.
I hadn't touched one of those who's fell bags till they had them in the back.
And then, you know,
they brought the sandbags out one by one for that event on a pallet jack,
cause that made a lot of sense.
It took them ever to set that event up. It was wild.
Yeah. And like, there was a lot of confusion in the back like
we thought at first that it was going to be all your class so all four lanes would have been one
class lead run around all the 57 under 57s then all of my class and the under 64s then the men
and then like nope all the sudden it was each class gets its own lane like the log and then
I guess that makes sense right then they don't have to have as many sandbags you can kind of stagger them but they
got that straightened out so I was up I think second in that one and I got four bags I had the
225 who's it fell up I just like couldn't get high enough on my chest to get it over the bar
and I timed out with it like
you're fighting that for a while.
You were fighting that for a good bit too.
I couldn't remember.
I was close.
Did you pick it up like standard where it's V down
or did you tip it on its side?
Cause I saw people tipping on the side
and they were having a bit better advantage on it.
So I don't think that would have worked for me.
So that the first two were small
and I'd never seen one of these bags till the back and I kind of played around with it. So because of the shape
of the Husserfell, I can actually get my arms around it. Where otherwise for like the regular
sandbags, I did turn them on my side. I left them so I can roll them up my chest because I can't
always get my arms around a really packed bang. But those, those
who's the fells I could, and that allowed it to sit higher on my chest. So I actually picked them
the normal way because if I turned them on the side, they're going to be heavy to one side and
they're going to be wider and I've got shorter arms. So I thought moment of that was my plan going in.
I was going to turn them on the side. I'd seen people do that. I talked with a couple of people about it, but when I saw when it was like, no,
you can get your arms around it.
It's going to be better.
Cause the first one I just got right up and could basically
throw it over the bar.
How did you like them?
Like, did you like the bags?
I mean, the, the ones that didn't weigh 225 pounds were fine.
I, I, that, that's, That might be my like least favorite implement ever is that who's a full bag.
Like, I hate that bag.
I guess I didn't mind it, but I mean, all sandbags kind of suck.
Yes. Yeah.
And I hate deadlifting a lot, so I could generally pick up and run a sandbag or do something
with it.
So they were, you could tell they were new.
That's, that's like the only thing that I had, like I didn't get hurt.
Everything felt good, except I was really tired, but like I did get sandbag burns on my forearms.
Yeah.
But that's pretty standard.
They weren't wet, so that was a plus. Yeah.
I did notice when Hogan and I were watching,
the lane on the right,
I thought it was perspective,
that the yoke looked like it was offset.
Like the cross member of the yoke was a higher set
on one side and lower on the other.
And I think when Hogan was at the bathroom,
I did see someone actually like, this was like mid, like after like half the class already went, they did lower it on one side and lower on the other. And I think when Hogan was at the bathroom, I did see someone actually like, this was like mid,
like after like half the class already went,
they did lower on one side.
So it was off, it was at a slight angle for like,
however many people went through the first few rounds.
Cause I was like, fuck, I knew it.
So that would have been the one on the, so I don't,
you were, yeah, so that was,
that would have been the one on the right.
You repeat on the one on the left, I believe.
Cause you were far away from me.
Yeah. Tyler, I heard, I don't know if you ever got confirmation. I heard they misloaded
some of the men's dead lifts at one point, whether I don't know if it was the under one
Oh fives or something. Uh, I don't think so. I think people got confused because they had 55
pamphlets instead of 45 that like looked exactly the same.
I think some people thought there was less on the bar when there wasn't because they had 55.
But yeah, I mean, but we were through two events and I think we were, I noticed we were already an hour over at that point. So they were trying it just, I think they probably needed some more volunteers
and a little more coordination on setting up the events.
Cause like you said, the sandbag took forever to set up.
The, I mean, yolks kind of take a while, but I think that I felt like they
rolled through the yolks pretty quick.
Yeah.
The yolk didn't get the, yeah.
The your, your class yolk did seem to be the quickest thing out of the three events I watched
But yeah, it was cool to see the crew in the crowd. I had
My brother-in-law my sister my dad my husband were there
But then I saw you guys in the crowd a couple times
I saw big Kevin because I'll always come out of the back during events one because there's not a lot of space back there
Especially as all
the other weight classes showed up. But I got to see some of the crew in the crowd,
which was cool. And then, you know, you said you were there for most of the events and
I never expected that. So it was kind of cool to go do the big show. And it's, you know,
I do know a few people around. I knew a few of the other competitors and I could look
at for massonomic shirts in the crowd and
Having fun That was so good cool thing this weekend to it's like ever any time you walked around someone you saw someone wearing a massonomic
Shirt, there was always like which are you crew?
I know Anthony did that a couple times when I was with him or we definitely had that experience as a group because Anthony Hogan
I were you know kind of a trio there at least day one kind of walking around just sticking together
We ran into a lot of people we had not known before.
So it was just cool to have that Mastodonics effect.
And did you have another event too after the bags or was that the end of the day?
I can't remember.
No, it was, it was just the four or so for my class.
It was top six, what it made finals.
I didn't really have an expectation that that was going to happen.
I mean, all four of my events went pretty much like how they had in training.
I, I wasn't hurt.
I had a good training block.
I did what I thought I would do.
I was tired enough that I had to lay on the floor for several hours afterwards.
So that, so that picture, I think that was realistically for me, I think it was about a best case scenario day, which is what I'd hope to have.
Because I had done Surrey-Meadcorp Nationals a couple of years ago and slipped all over the floor and done a couple of dumb things and was kind of like, well, I think I can do better.
I'm not going to be like do better to win, but I could do better. I'm not going to be like do better to win, but I could do better. And that's, that's what happened at the Arnold for me is it's like on my best day,
this is where I'm at and that's fine.
Well, that's awesome. I'm glad you got to compete at that higher stage.
It was, it's really cool.
No. Well, I mean, I, I, you know,
we all watch your show. We didn't watch Tyler's show. So who was the big winner that weekend, I mean, I find, you know, we all watch your show.
We didn't watch Tyler's show.
So who was the big winner that weekend?
I guess, right?
I don't know.
That was one of my favorite parts was kicked them out.
Yep.
I did.
So we, we ended up, I have Friday, we went to pro strongman after I weighed
in, which was mostly to keep me sitting down.
Um, but then we walked around keep me sitting down. But then we
walked around a little bit on Friday and then we did go back Sunday because we had our Airbnb till
we didn't drive home till Monday morning. So I was happy I got to see Big Tyler on Sunday in the
crowd, watch him lift some really heavy kegs, which was cool. And then I got to see my class go before that I got to do
some of the meet the pro strongman stuff I didn't have a cool lizard with me. But I did
get a picture between half Thor and Mitch Huber. I've never felt physically smaller
in my life. Yeah, that's a that's a winner. I don't think I've saw that one yet. Yeah,
that would be very much you being very you you'd be in dwarfed for sure.
Right?
Like the picture of me next to Tyler's is also a good size comparison of
crew.
I think that Mitch and fucking probably just shorter than half Thor.
Yeah. I mean, I don't know if Tyler talked about the rules meeting,
but I met Tyler at the rules meeting when we heard every question
you could conceivably ask twice about a max log.
I think the questions for a max log took 20 minutes.
Geez.
20 minutes.
The fucking rules should be like you should have virtual rules the day before.
Like it should like especially on a show like that
You should be fucking like the bars to the floor
Like you should be lifting it like 8 a.m. No later like not starting at like 10 or 11 or something. We we started it I
Think a lot of that's controlled by the expo, right?
Yeah, they want it they want it going on when you're there, but we were we were told
And now people did
get there earlier but like the original itinerary was 9 a.m. is the earliest you
can get there we started at 10 okay rules meeting was the night before at
7 p.m. okay okay okay
president in the fucking rules meeting then yeah it was in a conference room
upstairs yeah well I mean hopefully they learned whoever's putting it on, if they run it back next year,
that, you know, do a few things different possibly, and maybe don't have these huge
expectations of all these extravagant things. Now, did the girls do the hoist that morning?
So no one did the hoist at all. It was just, it was.
No.
Um, cause Saturday was the firefighter finals and they, I guess they spent like an hour
setting it up and then like right before the firefighters, which was go real honestly set
it up wrong.
So they were like, yeah.
So they were going to like take it back down and like put it back up. So then like no one did it. They just scrapped it for the firefighters, too
Okay, so no one did the voice at all
Well, we always have that meme of you. So that's all that really matters
Did you uh anything else memorable for you for the overall weekend Katie can I
Just the thenold, you know
Hanging out with the crew the massonomics booth all that anything you want to touch on
Yeah, so in addition to strongman on friday
I popped out of men's deadlift for a little bit and went to watch uh some of the women's
High level women's weightlifting. Um, so I got to see mattie rogers
and mary tyson lappen level women's weightlifting. So I got to see Maddie Rogers and Mary Tyson Lapin. And then
later on, on Friday, we were walking out, we walked past a booth and there's Maddie
Rogers standing there for a meet and greet with Noline. So I got to meet her. That's
a much more like normal sized person in comparison to me, a little different scale than say half Thor.
Um, but no, I, it was interesting.
Uh, my family had fun. It was cool to be able to be competing in that kind of thing.
They kind of dragged everybody out.
Uh, my husband got his first massonomic shirt and my brother-in-law is now in the
crew.
Whoa.
That's awesome.
He joined the crew after one day at the Arnold,
finally after several drink spotter Christmas purchases.
That's great.
We got to go check out the Rogue store,
and now I want a fancy belt squat functional trainer
rack that is a little too tall for our garage.
That thing was so cool.
That, they, it's so cool.
They've added some things to that.
They've really upped it.
So at the rules meeting, you said you were standing
next to Tyler.
Do you guys have any pictures together?
Cause like that needs to be,
without going into like,
there can't be too many people bigger. I don't think there's any crew larger than Tyler and
there can't be very many smooth crew that are body weight smaller than Katie
yeah so that you guys are couldn't be on the farther end of the spectrum on that
yeah yeah I've got one and then let's see what else the one other thing I
want to touch one it was more of a funny thing that happened at
the booth.
When we were selling shirts and whatnot, we were always asking people if they wanted a
bag.
And some people didn't know if they wanted a bag or not or didn't.
Regardless, so basically they had thousands of black bags.
They were prepped and ready to give out if you bought a couple shirts or whatever.
And at some point, I think Tanner might have been talking, I don't think it was a direct
conversation with me.
Like we're in this, we're three or four of us in the booth, it's kind of tight.
So like if you're talking to someone, you're kind of hearing the other conversation and
Tanner's basically like, I've asked like a hundred people if they want a bag.
And I don't think any of them understood what I said, because he says beg.
Like he literally, like he's self-aware that he says beg and they don't know what the fuck there
He's talking about and that that line like it broke me. I was like, oh man, like you're this is like the third wall
The matrix coming down like you know that you say fucking beg and you can't change it to even in a sales setting
It's fucking hysterical to me
But I don't know. I was just a blast. I, uh, I don't know, hanging out at the booth.
It's just good times.
Like I said, maybe, maybe we don't need it for two days, but, uh, come to the Arnold.
If you're listening to this and you haven't come to the Arnold, especially if
you're within like three, four hours.
I mean, fuck I drove, I drove, it was a six hour drive, maybe a little over it
with stops, like it's, that's about as much as it is an investment.
I would say, I would say put into it.
Um, you know, I don't know if I would say, I would say put into it.
You know, I don't know if I would be big Bryce
and drive 21 hours or 16 hours over two days,
but he made it a whole weekend trip with his pops.
So that was cool.
But if you're in that three to, you know, let's see,
if you're in Columbus up to like a four hour radius,
it's kind of a no brainer to at least go for one day.
I don't know.
I think it's awesome,
but six hours is probably the most I'd put into it. And if I, if I was a seven, eight hour drive, I don't think I'd come.
And at that point, I'd look at flights and kind of weigh, weigh, weigh that out. But
yeah, I know Joey had some stuff. So just let's go one more. Anyone just raise their
hand or just start talking and then we can probably close this out in the next few. If
anything we missed any stories that came to you that you've been sitting
on that you wanted to share anything funny.
We're good.
No, I, um, Oh, go ahead.
I was just thinking like one funny thing I got to do was, uh, before the program,
Lucas had an Alec, his coach got to put out a video, kind of talking about the program.
And I was in the 30-minute video
mentioned once when he read the entire list
off of
Participants and I just commented just like
Being done like oh, I haven't watched the ship. I'm guessing y'all picked me for the podium or whatever
Alec commented like yeah, of course
podium or whatever. Alec commented like, yeah, of course.
Then like after after like I got like finished third. And after like a walk back and like he was back there. I walked up to him
like, Hey, man, I told you I was on the podium. He just like
laughed. That's good.
I'm really glad to do nice. So I mean, did how was it going into
work Monday, Tyler and just, you know, turning in your
papers?
Oh, I took it really off.
Well, okay.
Well, I was setting you up more as a joke of, like, you know, telling your boss, obviously
you didn't quit your job because, you know, day one as a pro strongman, I don't think
you're paying your bills with that.
You got a podium at some real big shows to make any money and whatnot.
But, I mean, that's got to be, like, I don't know, what is the next step?
Like, are you going to actually, like, how? Okay,
ballpark, how many pro strongman are there? Like hundreds, like several
hundred? Like, like 50? Like, what is how many? How many pro strongman you
think are active right now?
Active right now? Well, probably less than 100.
Okay. That's pretty fucking elite.
Yeah. Well, they're like five minutes minutes ago my coach just texted me and said
We need a chat soon to figure out the rest of the year. So there you go
Yeah, well, I'm not yeah, I'm not sure what's up next
Well, you do ideas but nothing sentence done
Well, you go do some you go do some really cool shit in the next 12 months and we'll get you you might be our first
Will you go do some you go do some really cool shit in the next 12 months and we'll get you you might be our First full repeat guess because if I want to hear about all your strongman accolades that you accomplish in the next year or two
And with that, I think we'll let Joey close us out here. Yeah since I didn't get to go
I
Decided I don't know how many of you were paying attention
I had like this I had booked the weekend off and everything.
I was in, you know, some work meetings for the week
and then I went home and I was just kind of like bummed
that I wasn't there.
So I made the idea, because if you guys remember
Keith distinctly saying, I'm not there to make content,
I'm on vacation.
So I said, well, I'm going to go kind of crazy on
the Instagram while he's gone. And that escalated in such a weird way. And I'll tell you how it
started. I just started posting like myself and just like selfies of just like me doing stupid
shit. And then somebody messaged and I responded, but they assumed they were
talking to Keith.
Well, yeah, that's a good assumption most of the time.
Well, no, it totally is.
Not that weekend. Yeah. Yeah.
So they were like, Oh, check out this movie. And I was like, that movie was shit. And
the guy was just like, I thought you said you liked it. And then Keith responded with
Keith here, by the way, that must have been Joey.
I remember that.
No, I did like that show.
And then I was like, Oh my God, people think I'm Keith.
So that's when I started posting all of my pictures with the Keith
head superimposed and saying stuff that Keith would never say.
You know, Ohio has the best chicken parm.
Now that I've lifted in an Ohio gym, I admit that this is a way bigger state than New York because yes
There is a Keith said coming up on the screen because for some reason I just thought the Keith here by the way was so funny and
Everybody just assumes. I don't have anything to do with the Instagram
But I also assumed it threw me off a couple times because I'm like yeah
I didn't I didn't respond to this and I didn't say that what the shit. Yeah but I thought if I
kept making it very obvious that it was me people would clue in so with the Keith
here by the way the picture with the face and I got to admit it became a
little bit more about trolling Keith than it did about having fun on the
Instagram so he did reach out and he was like, you're kind of just like.
Bothering me while I'm here.
And I was like, all right, so I'll go a different direction with this.
The first 60% was good.
And then the last little bit, I was like, all right, fucker, like I'm trying to,
I'm trying to like reshare our former podcast guests and like tag them to the
Instagram. And you're just like obnoxiously putting my head on them.
And then like, I don't want that.
They know that one was really funny because it was a picture.
Who was that it was you?
Anthony I think and
Somebody else and then I just put your head on everybody including three in a row and I look through the stories No, I only did that once I swear it was like three in a row
But I did it to you and the people in your picture and all the people in the background
and all the people in the background. Like that took me 10 minutes.
And you deleted it on me, you fucker.
I did.
I was...
It was...
The first three times were funny and like the seventh,
I was like, alright, I gotta put a stop to that.
But then Ryan made that skeleton of me.
Did any of you guys see?
I didn't. I saw, but I didn't...
I was... It was supposed to be you.
Yeah.
Was it actually a real thing in his house or something?
Yeah, he built that.
He put the unpaid and underrated shirt
on a skeleton with light up red eyes.
And he put a hat on it and the red beard.
And he was like, Joey absolutely zooted in control
of the Instagram this weekend.
That's right.
I saw that.
Yeah.
So then I just started putting your head on that every time
I would say, Keith, here, by the way.
So it just was such a fun escalation of me being like,
I'm not at the Arnold, but I'm still going to like engage the people that aren't
either. So to keep everybody a little silly.
And then I came up with the idea of us all looking sad cause we're not at the
Arnold and that one real. Yeah, that was, that was pretty good.
Matt posted without me and I was like, send me that video.
So I got his raw version of that video.
I tried to get some past guests involved and they just,
you know, ran out of time or anything.
Cause I wanted to post while you guys were still there.
But yeah, I definitely had my share of fun
while you guys were gone.
Nice.
So next time you see Keith here, by the way,
on the Instagram, you know, it's me.
Keith here by the way. I was wondering where that originated from
because like I do I will say that periodically in the chat. I know. Well because sometimes
well I think what no what it was I remember now you know I was there was someone that followed
our page that was like solely someone I knew in the home gym world and like he doesn't even know
what Mastronomics is and he just gave us like a buddy follow because he saw me tag it on my thing
and then so I was talking to him on that but he didn't know it was me
I don't think so then that specifically when I was like this is Keith by the way
And I so I assumed you read that and then just thought I was being obnoxious and then ran with it
So so I had a chip on my shoulder the whole fucking time. I was reading it
I was like this motherfucker
Somebody sent the fan theories on severance and then I was like zero
Yeah, there was a whole and the guy was like I thought you liked it and I was like that's what he thinks I'm
Severance. Yeah
Yeah, I keep that's what I keep here by the way, and I was like, oh, yeah, this is gonna be stupid
Yeah, it was yeah, that was a severance thing call cuz severance had a whole fucking thing about um
The ship like the guy was whistling the fucking the song. Edmund Fitzgerald. Yeah. And it was like such a throw away thing.
And I didn't have an actually gone down a rabbit hole to like see what that was
about. Because I whoever writes Severance watches Mastinomics.
It can be the only way. I mean, of course, we are.
I mean, the sun does revolve around us.
Yeah. You're all right.
Anyway, that's all I wanted to contribute.
Well, that makes me feel less frustrated than I guess that was more good-hearted than it came across
I just it was like there's no way anybody believes this is actually him because it's me with
I know head over just my face like my beard is clearly there
I was trying to like think of something funny. I'm just like
Start just reverse it when I went it with Joey here, but I was like I didn't hasn't hasn't come to me yet
What would actually be good?
But yeah, that was a great that was the Arnold recap
Thank you for sticking around everybody for listening to this. Hopefully it was a little more organized than the party cast
We tried I know I had a handful of other crew that wanted to be on sorry
we Nate when I when I had a handful of other crew that wanted to be on. Sorry, Nate, when I asked Nate, GBT, GPT,

That was actually pretty cool.
He's a good dude.
And he's like, I knew he was from West Virginia.
I didn't realize he actually lives in Morgan.
He lives in my town, which is kind of cool.
So I might have to go on a very family-oriented trip,
but I might have to make an appearance at Mauser's Gym.
But no correction.
He has that.
He passed the Masonomics.
