All right, and welcome back to episode
1.68.
This is going to be the Lift Hardly Vee 5 preview show.
We are joined by, no, actually, it is the Lift Hardly Visi 4 recap episode.
The preview show will be in about six months.
And yeah, this Big Keith here, episode 168,
and I'm going to let the crew kind of take it around.
We've got a bunch of people here.
They're going to introduce themselves,
and you're going to make sure you're following them on the gram and Discord.
That's you, Derek.
Oh, sorry.
Shit, my internet connection is like cutting out.
Hey, what's up, big Derek, big message to the law and discord at D-Machine on Instagram.
Awesome.
Brandon Doyle.
I'm O'Doyle underscore Basement underscore Lifts on Instagram.
And Big Brandon O'Doyle rules on the Discord.
I am called the board.
I'm at Coach Debo on Instagram and Big Debo on the Discord.
All right.
Not missing anyone.
Okay, cool.
Just making sure I didn't.
And not skipping anyone.
All right, I'm Jake.
I am Jake the snake on Discord and Jake Hyde or Hide and Strength on Instagram.
And this is Geno Lee on Instagram, Genoley.
Phillips on Discord.
I think it says Big Genoley.
And I'm Big Nate.
I'm just here to get on the thumbnail.
So, okay, goodbye.
Let me hear, buddy.
Appreciate the help.
All right, guys.
How is that jet lag treating everybody?
Post, meat, fatigue, post show fatigue, post five-day vacation.
Well, vacation, we use the term lately, post-five-day event that then you had to come home and go to work after.
Yeah.
As anyone, has everyone feeling?
I haven't been back to work yet, so it's kind of nice.
I don't go back until Saturday.
Thanks.
I don't go back to work until August.
To August, yeah, that's true.
Debo has a whole beach.
Get a teacher in the house.
Yeah.
I've been back,
but I think the only thing
keeping me going right now
is just every time I get on Instagram,
there's something new to see from somebody.
Yeah, that's been really enjoyable.
I've seen a lot of,
it's been like staggered too.
I mean, there was a lot of stuff.
It's like every, yeah,
what's the day is?
So it's Thursday.
We're like, we're seven days out.
We're eight days from when we first started posting shit
on Instagram last week.
That's kind of wild.
Yeah, it's been new, new videos.
those new posts, new angles, new takes, new heartfelt Discord comments.
It's just been, this is one for the record books.
Like, I don't know, everyone says, you know, bigger and better every year.
It really, this one did take the cake, I feel.
Yeah, you know, it's kind of to that point.
I think everyone's kind of feeling the letdown because everyone starts exiting the dean.
You know, Sunday, the crowd gets smaller.
Monday, there's a few stragglers.
Everyone's just kind of making the way home.
So I think we all just have a little bit of that, like, oh, man, just had such a,
a packed weekend and literally right from the time you get in like i got in uh to sue paul's
wednesday night or yeah no it's aberdeen wednesday night um yeah so it's a long week i miss it
indeed anyone have any uh noteworthy travel comments travels usually kind of is what it is i'm like
too many of us got too hammered on the way in um i guess i took the long road to get to the dean
you did you were you confused me because you were like you on discord you were like uh asking about
something in Sioux Falls about, you know, it was either meeting up with Grayson or asking for
advice for a restaurant or something. I'm like, wait, do you mean next week when you're like maybe
in town when you fly to Sioux Falls and then drive down to the dean? I don't know, you're like,
you're in the Black Hills. You're, you know, doing all the, all those cool things with family.
Yeah. It was a selling point to Heather early on to say, hey, we can go make this like a family
vacation. And then by the time this rolled around, she was all in on crew and everything.
Um, she even commented that she's ready to come back to the dean for for next year.
So that's, that's pretty cool.
Nice.
I don't even have to sell it.
You, you, I think you did mean to say big Heather, though, didn't you?
Yeah, sorry.
Nice.
My bad.
Big head.
I mean, don't apologize to me.
Apologize to her.
And she's the big one.
Big Mrs. Debo.
Yeah, there you go.
There you go.
Um, crewbird, Gennelie, and Jonathan, uh, were gracious enough to pick a bunch of us up at the airport.
I think it started.
It was going to be two of us, and then it was three of us, then it was four of us.
I think it was five of us.
It might have still just been four, but there was several of us.
So they went from having one car to two cars.
So do you feel bad if anyone I had to leave work early to accommodate that.
You guys could have told us to pound sand, and we would have, you know, made it work, but we appreciate it.
So they dropped off the hotel briefly, and then we got, I was part of the round one roost tour, which is really cool.
I had to believe we got to see the implements, some of the implements before Jake did.
I'm pretty sure I saw that circus before Jake.
And it was pretty, it was a very pretty circus dumbbell.
The theme color, it was, uh, that was one, it was a very well done circus dumbbell.
And I like the Jonathan's are like, it can still be a full size 12 inch bell, but it's, you know, what, 55 pounds, which you don't, you don't find that in too many.
That's, that's not a, you know, the Titan really oblong shaped and long one.
So, uh, it was a very pretty nifty, uh, circus dumbbell. I like that.
And in the roost.
It was really annoying for Jonathan to send me Snapchat.
but he kept playing the censored picture
and putting over the top of it
and just kept doing that for like two weeks.
You sell the Codin's in that Snapchat thing.
No, that was cool.
So the farmer's handles there,
the Bayless got my hands on the big text for the first time.
I think we just loaded up like two plates,
so nothing really, you know,
nothing really too spoilery.
But it's like, oh, it's still pretty stiff,
but it's got some wiggle to it for sure.
So very cool.
Generally went all out and cooked us a nice steak.
dinner.
Mm-hmm.
You know.
We did have to go to Target and get some CPAP water and on crustals for you guys.
That's true.
Yes.
After our hot dogs, we did a little target run.
It was like the only time I went to a store all week.
I was like, all right, I'm at the store.
I'm just going to get everything I might need.
Don't have to make another trip because one thing I noticed this year, I don't know if anyone
else can attest.
Probably honestly...
I don't think anyone else in this podcast can really understand because they've,
either it's their first time there or they have their own car or they're like Derek and
they walk everywhere that, uh,
there was a,
there was an extreme lack of crew with vehicles this year. Um, it sucked.
It was,
everyone was like, oh, just crewber because there's enough people getting a, you know,
there's enough crew always coming in that do get ubers.
But I think historically less people get, or sorry, um, rental cars.
Every year, people get less rental cars.
So like year one, like 75% of people that traveled in at rental car, year two.
50% is just gone down to this year like if 20% of the people that flew in had a rental car,
I'd be surprised.
So that made it very challenging to get around.
I didn't have to take a single lift though.
Well, yeah,
but you have to be lucky enough to like,
no,
you have to like leach on to someone that has wheels immediately and just be like his shotgun rider all weekend and that their discretion,
which does work out.
But some of us were like,
I was in like six different cars over the week.
And I think I did like three different lift rides.
But it is what it is.
It was fun, but I think next year I'll either just rely on lift more and not just wait for a ride or go to the food place I really don't want to go to.
Because I don't know.
The rental car, maybe, maybe not worth it.
But there was just a different experience.
Not really good or bad thing.
Just something to be noticed that don't 100% rely on Kruber because it's not as we get bigger.
There's less locals to chauffeur us around, basically.
Yeah, I think too to that point is like, you also kind of just like, for me, I just kind of approach it as like, hey, look, there's people gathering in.
lobby I'm gonna mose your on down and just hits a ride somewhere so for me it was a little more
of like less of the planning out I'm just more just like I don't know just see where the day takes
me and yeah I guess being like being willing to walk like from the gym's like the main street to
get food so not that far you know stuff like that but yeah I still think you're the only one
that walks from the rancoda to everything in town I don't think anyone else was down for that
yeah I will say big Steve he said he tried it um big damn him and it
board he said uh like that's uh let's say monday night or monday morning when we're leaving he was like
walked over i think it's just going to get like a couple drinks and uh uh i think's madville or
something and he said he got tore up on mosquitoes um and i felt bad because i walked it like
two days prior and was totally fine he said he didn't even make it for that little sinclair dinosaur
he was getting chewed up yeah they ended up running the rest of the way to uh kessler's
which is not it's just a Midwest thing an aberdeen thing a south dakota thing but
I don't care what I said the mosquitoes are bad.
I literally got eight and I got bit three times in the freaking airport like Sunday waiting for my flight.
Like just sitting there and just little baby mosquito.
I swear I think I killed the same one or his family like three times.
Like how did I get bit?
I got like blood drawn bit by mosquitoes sitting in the damn airport multiple times.
So that was the thing.
We ran it back to the Ram Cota this year.
You know, what it lacks in some amenities it makes up for for letting us do more or less whatever the fuck we want.
we literally had tires rolling in there.
We had cars in there.
I don't think Ram Cota gives a shit,
and that kind of works out for us for what we need,
at least for now.
Anyone have any comments on Ramcota
if it was their first time seeing it,
or if it changed,
I think it did change owners.
Tanner did hint to hint at that last night,
so I don't know if anyone noticed anything different.
I would say, just echoing what he said last night,
just like the lack of staff,
that were willing to help us do things,
especially like during like setup and whatnot.
We had the,
the lady at the front desk was so,
like rude to us.
I was like,
can we like get the door unlocked back there?
And she goes,
there's a lot of doors back there.
I'm like,
I'm so sorry.
You're right.
The big giant door.
And she goes,
you mean our garage door?
I'm like,
yes.
She's related.
She's related to the,
a waitress.
Waitress.
For sure.
Tanner had like the exact same.
I met at the pounders waitress.
She was, that's not her fault.
Or loggers.
Tanner had the same story too.
Like she went, he went up and asked her like the same thing for earlier in the day.
And she goes, that's not my department.
Like, dude, you've got to come on.
Certainly not our department.
Yeah.
I think the trick is to complain about something about your room.
because like I just took a there was like some damage like the towel hooked and I took a picture of it and just took it to the front desk so I wouldn't get charged for it and like when she thought I was like making complaints she got really nice and I was like I just like don't want to get billed for it it'll be fine so maybe you just got to soften her up a little bit.
My experience was all right.
The quieter this year. There was a wedding last year and there was you thought there was a lot of drunk people there this year. Us there was so many more loud drunk assholes there last year like I know several people that just couldn't sleep because of.
just, you know, rambuxious hotel rooms until two, three in the morning.
So that was a huge plus that it was kind of a ghost town outside of us.
My night one shower was pretty disgusting.
I was within like two minutes.
I was standing in like four inches of water.
So that was a very brief kind of, you know, not, not, not not a great shower, but they had it cleaned out by this afternoon the next day.
Water and pee, right, Keith?
Well, yeah, they're all no.
It was way more.
Everything that washes off your body.
Way more B.
There was so much.
There was so much.
Yeah, yeah.
We'll call that white stuff toothpaste.
That's good for my.
But yeah, that all worked out.
I mean, I did it is what it is.
We'll see.
We'll see if it keeps going back there.
We'll get something different.
But it works for now.
It's what we need.
Wednesday was good timing.
Well, the bathrooms there for like the general population felt like the Arnold
bathrooms with standing water in the men's bath.
room. I'm like tiptoeing.
I don't feel like it was.
Honestly, it was better than last year.
Yeah, as bad as that sounds.
But it's so like for anyone that's not there, it's not, I mean, some of it's pissed, but
like the men's room specifically, I think all the urinals just sweat and one of the toilets
must leak or something because there's no way that just like having a couple people in
there all day is that like humidity level.
Like we're talking like there is an eighth inch of water over 25% of the floor in
places.
I went in there to people.
during deadlift's and I didn't have deadlift shoes.
I only had my socks.
And that was like,
I was like Indiana Jones having to jump over.
Like to not stay.
Like I think I did.
I'm going to the room, man.
Yeah.
I think I was in between temps or right after deadlift.
Or maybe it was right before that was a packing hack of I didn't,
I didn't want to do a carry.
I didn't want to do a check bag.
So I did manage to get all my kit into my checked.
But I pulled out my deadlift shoes last minute.
I was like,
ah, we can deadlift to barefoot.
It would be fine.
Or in socks it is.
But yes.
Debo and Brandon experienced the
Ramcoa bathroom the first time. Not
to Arnold level
because Arnold level just has shit on the floor, literally.
This was just
just just just wet floors. I mean
I did mention to Taney and I was like, hey, last year
we had fans. He could get fans this year and he was like
there's literally no one to ask. Like I couldn't
ask anyone if I wanted to ask.
I was like fair. Okay. Good enough.
Yeah, we had to like, we had to beg for
there was two trash cans when we
set up on Thursday and we had
to go beg for two more of them.
there were a bunch of trash cans that none of them had trash bags in on day one like we were like like Wednesday and Thursday I'm like there was just how people just keep chucking shit in the bat like dumpsters without the trash bags I was like oh that's gonna suck for somebody the one that was holding the water leak um it was used as a trash can and like when I was cleaning up the rose after the strong man and I look in there it's just like beer bottles and like a ripped up foam finger and like a foot of water and yeah there was
I'm assuming it was from the air conditioner because that probably hadn't been turned on all year because we might have been the first people to rent that room.
And it for sure, there was some condensation line blockage or something because we'd had a nice little drip there all day, Wednesday.
It was gone Thursday and the air was working.
So I don't know what happened if something got defrosted or cleaned out.
But for the most, there was a couple times you walked in there.
And I don't know if someone was dicking with a thermostat or if it was actually down.
It was like 80 degrees in there a couple times.
And then it was like 72, 73, the majority.
So it was much taller, much more tolerable than what it could have been.
So that worked out for us.
And yeah, I don't know.
Jake, Thursday moving equipment, it looked like we had a decent amount of people helping unload.
Yeah, yeah.
We, even before that, like Wednesday night, we, I had to unload one load of trailers because early.
Because we realized that the Masonomics's landlord had misplaced their big tire.
Oh, yeah.
Yes, yeah.
Tanner made a phone call in to the local tire store,
and me and Big Mike had to go to the local tire store,
and they took us out to their junk tire and said,
find whatever you want, and we'll get a guy,
and let's get a loader to pick them out for you.
So I had to unload one trailer early so we could get two big giant tires.
But yeah, then going into third.
Thursday, you know, that was the best unload and, you know, of all the years.
Going back to, like, helping with year one and year two, like, I remember helping Dave
during year two, it's just me to enter him and Katie unloading his entire U-Haul.
And before the, before we even went to the gym and it was like, oh, I'm already exhausted.
And then this year, like, I think I carried one K.
and the entire thing was empty, which was awesome.
Yeah, it was pretty nice.
I didn't volunteer for helping doing the stones up the stairs with the two curl bars
scares the shit out of me.
So, like, I would never help with that because, like, I don't have, man, I don't
know, like, give that to someone who's a little bit stronger than a, than a subparer
masters.
But everything else, you know, I think everyone, there was at least 25, 30 of us there,
and everyone carried a little bit of this and a little bit of that.
And, um, I would say with the curl bars, it's really not bad.
Like, uh, they get disperses the way it really.
well.
I guess I just think more of like the stairs and then I don't know.
My fear of being a lot shorter.
So if I'm with a really tall guy and I'm at the bottom and that fucking thing like like if you're ahead of me and I'm in the back and like I my fucking arm goes down a little bit.
It's just like gravity coming at me.
You just seen, uh, Zach, Big Zach, he carried like one of the either the 200 or the 225 keg like up the stairs like an actual kegload.
Jesus.
And I was like for the love of God.
dude, just get a cart or a buddy.
And there was a couple of times where he like
stumbled and I was like,
if you fall down these stairs,
no one is catching you.
Like national anthems.
No. Yeah, national anthems.
I don't know that I could, could I
I don't know that I would want like,
that would be like the train. I wouldn't have to work out
that day. If I carried a 220 pound keg
up the stairs,
like that's
like I don't want to see that.
That sounds horrible.
That's fun.
Get all that loaded.
out. They opened up the booth before us
Thursday afternoon. Anybody
sure everyone got some merch and was
anything surprised or any
merch they really wanted to comment on or anything
they liked? Any of the custom stuff even too?
Black curls shirt's pretty sick.
It's on a comfort
colors too, I believe, right? Yeah.
Yeah. Nice.
But it's like, it's almost kind of like a different comfort
colors because it definitely like. They're all the same blank I heard.
What? They're all the same blank I heard, but
Hogan did.
tell me. I was wearing my... Every blank is completely
different, and I can attest that every blank is like
1% different and it's thicker, thinner,
wrinkles more, wrinkles less. They're all
slightly different no matter what the tag
says. Like, I
don't know, maybe it's just me, but I was like,
I wore it this morning to work out that black
curls shirt and I feel like it hugs
the shirt. Like, I honestly
thought it was a different blank because it hugs the arms
so much differently than like,
like, this is a regular style, comfort
colors I'm wearing right now and
I would swear it's a different shirt.
Yeah, I think the Milwaukee one to me fits tighter in the chest,
like in a good way.
Like it's almost like a slightly athletic like up top,
but then like it still has the length and the width for to hide the belly.
I was a personal fan of the hat.
Yeah, the hat.
Yeah, the hat was very popular.
And hearing the whole story behind it too, like with Lauren.
Yeah.
Oh, I didn't.
Okay.
Do you have that?
I don't know that.
I mean, I have like the gist.
Like he basically,
so Lauren's really into like creating like different type of,
parodies, kind of like, you know, to the old school beer
Masonomics ones. So he's been doing that for his gym. So he came up with the
Nasanomics. And I think Tommy tweaked it a little bit, but he sent him to them
months ago. I'm not sure when. And they ended up liking it so much that they used it. He
also had a Space Force one that they didn't end up using. But that's also a really
cool patch. He had the patches he was handing out. So. Yeah, he went to hand me a patch. And
I was like, I'll take the sticker, but like, I don't have anywhere to put a patch. And I'm sure,
I don't know how many you have.
Someone else,
I don't want to take a patch from someone that would put it on something.
Not that I didn't want your patch, Lauren.
I just don't know what to know with it.
But I got the sticker.
It'll be a magnet soon.
Yeah, I caught him in an Instagram, like, story,
wearing his homemade Mastonomics hat
before the release of the hat in the episode.
And I message him like,
where did you get?
And he goes,
Well, super secret, but this is kind of what they're going to be doing and everything.
It was very cool.
He's like, I didn't think anybody was going to see me wearing it.
Are you still out West Debo?
I see you're just sitting a shotgun.
I'm assuming Big Heather's driving you home.
Yeah.
She is.
So we got stuck in some traffic.
We did some back-to-school shopping today and didn't quite make it home in time.
So I'm on the road.
We just pulled into the driveway.
So we're good.
Could be worse.
We've had worse connections.
So then Thursday, we got to see the whole Strongman platform come together, the whole stage.
Did that go together as well as you thought?
Or was there any difficulties, Jake?
Just like getting everything set up.
Overall, no.
Yeah, I think we had a pretty good game plan this year of getting everything set up and prepared.
And it was really nice to, like, be able to move.
everything in and actually like get it set up instead of like the past two years I've
waiting until 4 p.m. or like 2 p.m. and right after the yeah that was and I like those last two years like
I've never gotten to see really what I'm working with like in terms of warm up room and all that like
I can see it but my equipment's not sitting out in the space so I don't get to like I have to try
and visualize okay these are going to go over here this is going to go here like where are we going to
bit everything. It was nice to just be able to set everything out and be,
okay, this is where, you know, how can I tell my volunteers how to make their day easier?
Like, this needs to go here. This needs to be here. This is how, when we're going to move
this, that kind of stuff. So, yeah, that was way better for us.
How many needs that you run if I might ask? Sorry, just.
Sure. Yeah. The, I ran one, the, this is my third lift, hard of the easy. And I ran one
strong man competition back when I was in college and I run one or two powerlifting
meets at the college that I work at every year.
So I've not a ton, but enough to know my way around the block, I guess.
Just doing.
Yeah, I mean, it goes so smooth.
Yeah.
The way you guys had to like, just, I was really impressed with your load out plans and stuff
and just kind of a tear up in the direction you all were given, making it just so smooth.
I really appreciated the binder where it was lane one binder, lane two binder, event one.
Everything is organized and detailed out, how everything was supposed to be laid out,
put weight, put on the bar, et cetera.
As partially an OCD person myself, I appreciate that level of detail.
So that is all.
That is all my better half.
That's not me.
I'm the chaos to the, to the, to get, to get a good team over there.
The little Yan Yang goes a long way.
How many volunteers?
Did you, do you have a headcount on volunteers for, I mean, well,
Power of the Instrument kind of lives a lot of repeat volunteers.
But you had, what, like half a dozen power lifters and then a bunch of people just coming,
just coming out of the crowd to help out?
Yeah, we had, like pre-scheduled stuff, but.
Yeah, everything was planned.
we had eight spotters and loaders
and then two scribes, two scoreboards.
And so that's, you know, a dozen people
that were helping out with that.
That's wild.
Plus judges, yeah.
And so 14, like 14 or 15 of us.
Like, that's, like, there's some strong managers that aren't that big.
Or like, that's like, that's like the bare minimum.
Like, I've been on some really small shows.
But, like, that's a lot of people.
So that was really cool for, to have that many people.
Definitely made the day go for sure.
well.
I was really, I was honestly, I've been nervous all year about like that was my biggest
reservation about moving the strong man to Friday was are we going to even get anyone
that's willing to do this because if everyone's powerlifting, like we had a few people that
were like, hey, I'll help you move things, but I'm not helping you during the competition
because I saw what those kegs did last year and I don't want, I have no interest in doing that.
Yeah.
And, you know, just got a couple of psychos.
was like Steve to
Bam Bam Bam he was a tank out there
And then he goes in PRs in the
In the media like that's just wild to me
Yeah
And he crushed their grip competition too
Yeah yeah yeah he was he was he was he was loading in the grip
Competition too in while competing in it
Oh wow I didn't yeah
I was a little distracted during the group competition
I might not have been bringing my A game that was a Sunday morning so
distracted.
That's the word.
More on that layer.
Yeah, the clear liquor got me good.
That was a good time.
Everyone got a chance to see the billboard, got the picture.
Brandon Debo, it was your first time there.
So did you really think we had a random billboard?
Do you think it was all just like a hoax and it was all AI?
I was pretty sure it was real.
But, yeah, that was actually the first thing we did.
So my flight landed in MSP from Louisville.
And I saw Darren and Lauren there.
So we got on the same flight to Aberdeen, of course.
And then when we landed, they made like a game time decision.
They're like, all right, we're just going to rent a car because they weren't going to rid a car initially.
I was surprised they were able to get one.
I was looking.
They were sold out.
Okay.
They must have one in reserve because or they stole someone else's gerisano reservation because they for sure weren't letting me book anything like three or four days ahead.
out out.
Well, they were able to get one, and the first thing we did is we went to Brock the Rock and
the Billboard, so got those knocked out.
But we got to do the, you know, the prom picture on top of Brock the Rock, which was good,
and then headed over the Billboard.
So I got my picture with Darren in front of the billboard.
It was kind of funny.
We pulled into Aberdeen from the west side of the state, and we're just going down the main
drag there.
and we're trying to figure out where we're going to eat lunch because we got there right at about lunchtime.
And I told Heather, all right, just turn left down this road and we'll find a little parking lot to park in and figure out lunch.
And as soon as she started going down this road, I saw the big grain elevator that Tanner got the picture from.
And then I was like, oh, that's a Casey's. That's got to be the billboard.
We went and got our picture taken there
So it was lucky, I guess, that we found it right away
But it was just look of the turn there
Any pizza ranch or the circus
And anybody get to try out the local cuisine
Or anything you haven't had before
Yeah, I went to the circus with, I think Jake was there
And Derek was there
Debo, did you go to that?
Was that Thursday?
We were at the Pizza Ranch.
Yeah, I wish I was in the circus.
I didn't realize.
So this was post set up and everything.
And there was like, no one was making a decision.
It was like fucking lunchtime.
And no one ever threw out circus.
And Anthony and Garrett were like, oh, we're going to go to a pizza ranch.
I was like, okay, I don't have a car.
Someone's leaving right now.
There's a seat in it.
I can go get food.
Cool.
Let's go.
And then like an hour later, I see everyone eating some awesome freaking.
food and I was like, oh, that must be
nice. I want some double-dick wings.
I want to double-dict wings.
I was initially going to go to Pizza Ranch, but
had to make weight in a few hours there
Friday morning. So I was like, yeah, it's probably
a better decision to at least limit
how much food I'm going to eat, whether it's
going to be good or bad. I'm going to limit
not have seven plates of
greasy pizza. Yeah, I think Pizza Rang
made me lose seven pounds.
Yeah.
It did me dirty.
Do you have the chicken tenders or the fry?
Pizza.
I had a little bit everything.
I had a lot of pizza, a little bit of chicken fingers,
the mashed potatoes, the gravy, the stuffing.
I had a little bit of everything.
Nice.
I can't hear you, Jake.
Yep.
All right.
Can you hear me now?
Yeah.
There you are.
Sorry, I think my mic died.
Keith did come out and been like, all right, we're going.
And then, like, you guys walked away.
I was like, all right, Abby, do you want to go to the pizza ranch?
She's like, hell no, we're going to the circus.
And then she immediately did like what you did and was like, we're going to the circus.
And then everyone, that would have been awesome.
Thanks, thanks for inviting me, Abby.
I would have loved to go to the, I would have loved to try double-dip wings.
I don't know.
It was, to Anthony's credit, though, it did.
We were almost going to leave the pizza ranch because there was no seats at all when it was packed.
And Anthony was like, so is there like, how long do you think we can get like a party at like 12 or 15?
I have a party room ready right now. It's empty.
I was like, cool, dope, sold.
So it actually worked out.
But I don't know.
Everyone's got to do the rain.
I mean, I've done it several times now.
But, oof, it was, it didn't sit well with me that night, to say the least.
That's why Jonathan and I, we decided, no, we're not going to do Pizza Ranch the day before.
Yeah, it would have been a good movie.
Competing so we didn't go.
Hindsight.
It's one of those things I want to add to the mental list of like when I spend all this money to go out there again.
I was like, all right, eat a chicken sandwich or a chicken that day.
And I did, I did end up eating chicken at the bar like three or four times.
I had like the exact same meal.
Because it was like a $14, two chicken breast veggies and a potato or something.
I was like, sold.
Next year, if there's not, if I don't have a ride, I'm just going to eat that every meal.
Play it safe.
Massonomics gym, everyone.
So Brandon, you got, Brandon and Debo got to put their pin in that.
And I think everyone else is kind of familiar with the gym.
But it's always nice for a rookie's perspective of the gym for the first time.
Yeah, the first time we just kind of were doing the load out.
So it was like, as soon as I got there, everyone was already getting to work.
So like I didn't have like a big chance to like walk around.
But later on during the week or the weekend, Lauren and I went back and I was able to take the full detailed tour and try all the equipment out and things like that.
So yeah, it was a good experience.
Got to use the bathroom.
So that was nice.
I did.
Ooh.
I did shit in that gym for the first time in my life.
I've been in that gym like 20 times.
Well, several times.
Didn't you do an upper decker?
Yeah, yeah, just for Tanner.
I mean, there's a shit in the shower, right?
Yeah.
First time for everything.
I like the videos you see versus how it actually is in person.
The way the rooms are constructed and laid out,
it makes it feel ginormous in the videos.
And it's just well thought out planning and everything.
It flows really well and got to put my hands on some equipment that I normally wouldn't get to.
Yeah, it was actually the same way for me.
Like, in my head, it was laid out way differently than when I actually got to put it all together, you know, in person.
So that was kind of interesting.
Not in a basement.
The funniest thing that stuck out to me is that that goddamn belt squad is still down there.
He's been trying to sell that.
He's tried to sell that belt squad for the last.
That's three and a half four years.
So when I saw it, I did literally, I audibly laughed out loud because he still has that.
It weighs like 1,200 pounds.
Yeah, no one's going to get him.
I mean, no one's going to drive and come get it.
It's pretty much it has to be free at this point if he really wants to get rid of it.
I think if it's free, he'll just keep it there.
It'll be Jonathan.
I was going to say generally, you should get Jonathan.
It wouldn't take much now that he has the back thing.
Yeah, fair.
Make an offer.
well he could just trade some uh who i think it was i remember yeah it was jonathan he came up to me
and he was like look at look at these look at these spotters on the the hack squat they're
ready to break i i should i should weld these up for tanner it's like these like you could literally
like wear the where the spot or where the arms go into the safety spot on the hack squat
where like indented like severely it was like oh well for a hundred dollar hack swat though i think
it's still pretty good deal oh let's see where we at oh i do what
want to mention Genelese Roost, very cool gym.
The one thing I was, it was the 98 degree day.
I think we were there.
Everyone kept telling me, oh, it's not hot.
It's not hot.
It's a, it's fucking Odie peak hot in this bitch.
It was, I was dying.
So hot.
The more bodies that got in here.
My motherfuckerger is hot.
It's not usually that hot when then we got like 10 people in there.
It's so hot.
It was bad.
It was bad.
It wasn't bad the day we went.
Are you sure?
I think it got cooler as the days went along.
Because you guys went Saturday afternoon, I think.
No, it was Thursday after.
Thursday.
Thursday, yeah.
Because, yeah, that's why there was a crew late into the loggers coming back from the 47-minute drive out to Aberdeen-adjacent.
No, it's like 20.
It's not too far.
It was a good ride, though.
Anyway, I just didn't want to let the whole podcast go without complaining about the heat somewhere.
You know, it wouldn't be a podcast episode.
And you were getting bit up by the fly.
real bad.
Yeah, yeah.
On Wednesday.
That was, that was a thing.
Oh, well, yeah, you were giving me shit.
You were like, oh, did you just put bugs spray?
Because I had my back, I had my backpack, and I had bug spray in it.
And we were sitting outside, and I had already gotten bit once or twice.
So I did.
I went and applied a shit ton of bugs spray.
Then immediately got bit by the biggest horsefly ever.
The biggest horse fly ever.
I'm like, sweet.
I'm just bleeding now.
So that was fun.
But you guys have a beautiful place.
Very, very nice location.
Where are we at?
Loggers?
Thursday night loggers. Everyone had a good time.
Everyone got their fill.
I learned not to order any food there.
But the year before, it did take an hour as well.
And so I just said, no, we're not even going to try it.
Smart. So just had food before and just plan to eat drinks?
Yeah.
Smart.
Very smart.
Yeah, if anyone's, I mean, they touched on it on the other podcast.
So we're doing our best not to have it be the Tanner and Tommy podcast with some crew perspective.
But I don't know.
And from my perspective, we got things.
We got our food order in.
And two and a half, at least two hours later, some food came out.
I think Brandon's table was smart and asked for their bills immediately because I was,
I was in the back puking and shooting my brains out.
And I didn't have a bill and she wasn't anywhere around to give me a bill.
And I was like, I just wanted to leave.
I didn't have any cash.
I was about to just give someone my credit card and get a lift.
But finally she did come over.
And that was an experience, but I think we all just need to learn.
I think we're too big to do another meal out in a group and less than something,
even in a bigger location.
I don't know.
Because you said you even talk.
Like it was all set up.
Like it was like,
like we did it last year.
And there was like 60 of us.
Of course we were going to be more this year.
We had like three or four waiters last year.
At least two.
We had one.
So someone called off and really screwed over the waitress and it was, I don't know,
they did nothing to get her any help.
And I heard she was kind of rude to some people.
I thought she was just being chirpy, but I don't know.
I guess she did rub people the wrong way.
But some people, I don't know.
I worked in food service.
So I didn't.
I would have killed myself.
I was in her position.
So the fact that she still, you know,
made it through the night, good for her.
Yeah.
And hopefully she got tipped out well, too.
I think with so many people from so many different areas,
it's like the culture is going to be a little bit different
in how you take the service, you know?
Like you said, there's so many people with this one server.
I thought she did a good job.
Dude.
I had no problems with her.
I've been in that bar and plenty of times during absolute nonsense.
And, you know, they all turn into,
they all turn into like grumpy.
die bar bartenders and
you know that's just how it kind of goes
like when you're dealing with a bunch of chaos
if you've ever been like during like northern
states homecoming like go to go to
loggers during that that's like that's just how it is
you know it's it's chaos in the sports bar
but yeah there was
there was there was there was there was
I don't know where we're going to find some place they could feed 80 people
so I think food just got to be
you know almost needs to be like three
separate like places where 20 or 30 people can fit just do food and then be like all right we're
going to go to this bar to drink at seven but like don't come hungry i think that would have been
just a better overall like people would have been less annoyed uh so that is something to think about
next year tanner and tommy as you're going through the list of little things um yeah uh let's see
friday friday morning waking up bright and early strong man day um let's see me debo competed
Genelie competed.
Yeah, and Jake put it on and ran his ass off
kind of keeping things going smooth.
So I have tons of thoughts on it,
but I don't want to monopolize it.
So Gena Lee, Strongman Show.
How'd that go for you?
Well, it went good for me,
but again, just I want to watch everybody
while I'm competing too,
and you just can't.
So you're just like trying to see it all
and do it all at the same time.
But I did catch some of the good moments.
Fair. Yeah. I basically, and it's so rushed. I mean, it's such an efficiently ran meat.
It's like, as soon as I'm done with my lift, I'm like, okay, what's the next event? I have to get my knees leaves off. Okay, that's going to take fucking 10 minutes.
Right. And then I have to get them back on. So like, I'm going to need someone to help me get them back on. So I'm always thinking about changing my socks, getting my right stuff on. It's just like, because then like, until I, until I have the right stuff on, I can't like relax because I don't want to be shibooting out there like an asshole. So that did happen to me on the rocks.
I don't know.
You, that's awesome.
What?
Wait, wait, wait, wait.
Did you shaboot?
Generally, did you shaboot?
Oh, no, I misunderstood.
Oh.
I thought he meant like,
where'd that come.
I thought he meant like shaboot,
not like shaboot.
Shaboot's like when you have like two separate shoes.
Did you have two separate shoes?
Oh, God, no, I didn't do that.
Oh, no.
I didn't do the shaboot.
Who the hell would do that?
No.
Yeah, that would be some, some crazy person.
to do that.
Just came over and was like, okay,
you guys are going last for rocks and you're going to be over here
in this lane. I was like, okay, I have got so much time.
And then I look out there and I see Heather
and she's running the rocks and I'm like, oh my God, what is going on?
I'm like literally next. I haven't even got my stuff on yet.
So I think it was just because of the two lanes like,
Yeah, they got through.
So you guys weren't the first ones out, basically.
But then I think you went into a lane that had less people in it before you, maybe.
Yeah, you can blame, we can all blame Trond for that one.
Oh, Trondy.
We had said lane one, lane two.
And then I was facing one direction when I said lane one, two.
And then he went and read the binder, but he was flip-flop facing out towards the crowd.
So then he put lane one on the other side.
That's funny.
And I was like, yeah, just run it.
They'll figure it out.
It'll be okay.
They'll figure out where their rocks are.
We just had to follow whoever was in our heat, you know, in our division.
That was always nice.
Yeah, I did.
That was nice.
But the one thing, not being able to have my bag up there with me, if I'm going to be a big baby, that's the one thing.
So at first I put my bag, like all my things.
everything.
You say it like Tanner.
Okay, that's what I understand.
I was like,
I understand.
I mean.
I really didn't.
That's not what I heard.
That's hysterical.
Yeah,
because the warm up room for anyone that's not from that,
like the warm up room was definitely a brief,
to make enough room on the platform to actually put the show on that Jake was able to,
we had to cut into the warm up room probably like 20% of 25% of what we had
had last year.
So there wasn't room for everyone's,
gear in the back. There was like there was 10 or 15 chairs, but there was like 50 competitors
and all your bags had to be just, we were just, you know, not in the back, basically.
So.
Well, somebody told me, put it over here and it was all the way behind like Tanner and Tommy's booth.
I don't remember who told me that, but they're like set up here. And I'm like, so I did that.
And then as I started like, okay, I got to switch these sleeves and these shoes. I'm like,
this is not working. I'm not going all the way down here. And I figured it all my own. I moved all my
crap somewhere else and that was fine but yeah after after going to the power lifting me and
everyone just like camped out in the hallway I was like oh I should have told everyone to
camp out of the hallway yeah that's what we ended up doing and because I felt well I just I
I was worried that people weren't going to feel comfortable being putting their stuff out in the
hallway where anyone could just like walk through because I was already nervous about telling
everyone to leave their stuff in
not in the warm-up room, like, where just
like regular people are.
Like, you know, I
feel that people are already stressed
about things. They don't need to be stressed that
someone's going to, like, steal their knee
sleeves out of their day or something.
There. Just wasn't enough traffic
in that hallway by the time I decided to put
out there. I was like, nobody's going to take anything.
Yeah.
There should be.
The competition, maybe.
Yeah, they're going to take your wrap so you have to go double overhand deadlift.
Did Tom double overhand deadlift because he doesn't know how to fucking use straps or know what hook grip is?
Because I swear I looked out there and he was double overhand and because whatever he pulled,
he only pulled like mid fours or low fours, I think.
And he should no way he can't pull like significantly more than that if he put straps on or not just way off base.
I guess I didn't say.
I swear I saw him pull double overhand.
I, but that's just I guess that's the Tom.
Maybe he was just hooker me.
that is Tom.
I don't think Tom knows how to hook grip.
I would go out on the limb to say that that's not something Tom does.
That seems like a little too much extra steps.
But I might be wrong.
Also, I would not hook grip a fucking 29mm deadlift bar.
That would be so painful.
Jonathan would.
I'd tape my thumbs up if I did that.
Fair.
But yeah, so.
I got a question for the competitors.
So how do you all balance like going out there and obviously doing some of these really high intensity lists?
There's a lot of short medleys and things like that.
And then you go and now you have to kind of stay amped up but pulled off and that kind of stuff.
You know?
I didn't feel like there was a lot of downtime between everything.
What do we have like no more than a half hour between any event, if probably more like 20 minutes.
So I thought it was perfectly paced.
I've done other shows where it's, I mean, well, even Liftford, LeVD One, I feel like we did event, event, event, event.
And it was just much more pace and also the heat factored in.
So I guess I don't know, I did I did not have any issue coming down and then trying to ramp back up.
I just, I thought it was so efficiently ran that it didn't seem to factor.
I was not warmed up properly for the medley.
Me personally, well, I think a lot of us might not have been because so many people ate shit on different things that they've done in training and just couldn't hit it.
So, you know, I don't know if the gravity's, you know, a little different in the, you know, out there in the dean or what.
but that 200 pound log felt like 220 because I fucking press a 200 pound log a dozen times in my life and I couldn't get that thing off my goddamn chest.
Like I literally couldn't even make a, a valiant effort.
It was just like it's not there.
Like I don't know.
Like in the circus dumbbell and the tsunami weren't so taxing that I should have been like like already like expended enough energy to not perform well on that.
So that really pissed me off and set the tone to not have a great day.
And then I was able to, you know, pulled a deadlift BPR.
was very fast, in my opinion, for me in comparison what I've done before with Farmers Tire and Keg.
And then Rocks was just kind of fun.
And I don't know, I was happy with my results overall, my performance, the results, you know,
the scoreboard sucks to see when it's like, oh, I put in so much effort and I thought I did great.
And it's like, oh, the next guy has like double and a half my points.
But I had improvement over what I've done in the past.
And I was very happy overall.
So, and I didn't hurt myself.
And I'd beat Debo in two events because I'm better than him at two events.
and that's my goal my old goal goal I had very very a low bar not finished last in everything and
you know I think that might have actually been the main goal so I uh Eddie Eddie and I there was a bunch
of ties for last which to me in my opinion if you tie for last it's not coming in last because
you didn't get one point you got like one in a partial so it's not last place so that doesn't
count and yeah overall lots of fun for me oh go ahead and I was just going to say the longer
in between the harder, I think it got to stay.
But then after two and three, I started to say,
oh, now I'm feeling this on my body.
The longer in between events, the harder it got, yeah.
But it was not very long at all for anything.
When you go do another show generally
and you wait 90 minutes to two hours in between the events,
you'll really feel it.
Yeah.
Those ones are way harder.
Yeah.
That's exactly what will happen.
I guess one thing to factor, too, you did multiple reps on the log where several of your competitors did not touch the log or didn't press the log.
So some people that finished higher did more shit.
Like people that deadlifted 600 pounds worked, you know, potentially worked harder than someone that, I mean, you know what I mean?
Or that's a bad example because if you deadlift's RP9, it's so RP9 regardless how much weight it is.
But the medley specifically or how fast you are off.
by not making it to the log.
Yeah, for sure.
There was a fair amount of people that were, like, strategic about that on the deadlift of not taking a third.
Oh, yeah.
There had to have been, you know, three-day-term.
I was hoping for one is what I wanted to do was one, but I did end up only having to do two.
You know how you fix that next year, Jake?
Is if, okay, in the future, if we have a max event where it's a rising bar max event again,
and people are going to be like, they're going to be smart and they'll be like, okay, yeah,
I won on my second.
going to take a third. You gotta get massonomics sponsor it, throw a $100 gift card at it or something. Something.
Because like, I mean, cool. I think the max, the head left egg with a pair of collars, right? Or whatever it was. But like this, you gotta give it that, that extra sea hair incentive. And you might see someone go do something, you know, maybe they shouldn't. But if it's, if the prize is there. That's why you see half Thor do stupid shit in competition sometimes because it's, you know, chasing that record. Because it's incentivized financially. But I don't know. It's smart. I wouldn't, I wouldn't take a third if I didn't need one to, to win.
I like the gamesmanship.
I think that's fun to watch.
Yeah.
Eddie got in my fucking hit,
speaking of gamesmanship.
It was,
you know,
I was like,
you know,
I knew we were similar
in strength for the dead lift.
So I was like,
oh,
we'll just,
we should just do it each other,
you know,
kind of didn't really have an agreement,
but we're kind of hinting it like,
maybe we'll just do the same lifts of each other
and kind of just see what happens.
And then,
and then we both did 400.
I went out at 440 because that's what he was talking about doing.
And then he skipped 440,
went to 450.
forcing me to take the, you know, to go up on a third.
We had previously talked to, like, he thought 460, 470 might be his top end.
And then I was going to go out at 4.
I was going to play at saving go out of 460 and kind of bank on him missing his third.
And I said, well, fuck it.
So I did go out for 470.
I got it.
And then he went out, missed it.
But then I was, so like, I had that like half second of like, oh, cool, I won.
And I was like, oh, no, it's 60 seconds.
So then he like somehow battled some emotional turmoil or something.
and like willed himself to pull that after he was hit on at the first rep.
So that was really,
it was that double ed short of like you're really proud and impressed what your friend just did,
but he just tied you and cost you a whole point.
So it's like, God,
dang it.
That was amazing to watch,
actually.
That was one of the moments for me.
That was really good.
Yeah.
I thought it was a good one.
Yeah.
I wish I'd got to see Garrison's deadlift and,
you know,
his fight.
I saw some videos of it,
but that would have been a really cool fight.
And as Jake and as coach, like, you, I'm sure you didn't want, you couldn't have probably wanted anything else for him to actually lock that out.
So you'd give him the down command.
So when he was just so short, it was just just a hair short of it.
And you couldn't give him the down that, uh, that had to be hard.
That felt like it was 40 seconds long.
Sorry, Jake.
I don't mean to interrupt you.
Absolutely.
Like, I'm sitting there like, because he stopped moving and I'm like, okay, do I give it to him?
Because he, like, he's, he's no longer going up with this.
like but it's not locked out at you know it's just so close if he had knee sleeves on he might
have gotten it you know what I mean like it might have been enough to like yeah look like his
knees were locked out but yeah because he was close he was super close yeah people how about you
how about your lifting experience so to answer Derek's question a my my lifting background and
I play so much tennis.
I do a lot of starting and stopping.
And so that whole idea doesn't, like, it doesn't bother me.
And if it's a long break, I've played three tennis matches in a day in a tournament, right?
So, like, I understand when to push, when to back off.
And like Jake said, there's literally a competition I went to.
It was almost a two-and-a-half-hour break between events.
I just went and laid down.
I took a nap, got back up, and I just re-warmed up like I would for the first event.
And I got the blood flowing.
I always say I'm trying to get my chili hot.
And I can go and...
What?
Wait, like, we have to die, like, back at a...
Like, you're talking about, like, because you're cold and you want to get warmer.
You're literally talking about, like, chili with beans, like the food, with cinnamon roll.
What the fuck you're talking about?
All right.
Yeah, like...
Like, whenever I warm up.
I got you.
I got you.
I can go...
chili right now. If that was an acronym, Keith's head would have
explained. Oh, yeah. I would have to know to spell chili first.
Yeah. So I think
you know, like the, whether it's
long or short breaks, I mean, I'm not worried about
and I turned like that's out of my control. And when I'm
coaching tennis and someone makes a bad call
and you're making your own line calls out there,
these kids have to learn that that's out of their control
and they can't dwell on it, they can't let that bother them.
So what I can control is my own effort and intensity,
and then what I choose to do with, in this case, they implement
and not worry about anything else.
And that's how I try to approach that.
Just because of, like, again, my coaching background,
that I wouldn't have had those kind of thoughts had I not been a coach.
I know that.
I would have been up in arms like, where are we going?
You know?
Well, yeah.
I mean, you have the whole aspect of being a competitor and all those strategy goes into there.
But then also, if you guys have mentioned, it's always, it's your friends otherwise that are up there lifting afterwards.
You kind of want to go out there and cheer them on.
Yeah.
I remember, like, Big Hannah was like, you know, she's lifting.
She's cheering for people and she does that basically both days, like, boundless amounts of energy.
You know, it's amazing.
Well, and like, generally had a same situation.
like our spouses were also participating.
So you want to be there rooting them on and encouraging them.
Also, like, I'm going after my wife.
And so I still need to be warming up and things like that.
Yeah, I never thought about that aspect.
Like, that's like a good distraction, but a distraction nonetheless of like trying to focus
on their health, their mindset, making sure they're good to go.
Or do you just kind of lock into yourself and like, she's got it, he's got it?
Like, I know I'd be very distracted if I was.
competing with Stephanie at the same time because I'd want her to do her best and like to hell with me
kind of thing. So I'm curious of how that would affect your guys as performance competing with your
spouse. There's no way I could do it. I don't know how you guys do it. I'd be a mess trying to
help. And then I'd be like, oh yeah, I guess I probably should go do something, huh?
I could run a 5K with my wife. I tried one time and she was like, we were like half a mile in. She was like,
just go. I'm like, okay.
Leave me.
Yeah, it is.
It's not fun whenever you feel like you should be there for your spouse,
but you also are trying to prepare yourself for competition.
It's just a tough spot to be in.
I love it.
Yeah, for sure.
Yeah, I thought you guys did a great job.
Yeah.
Well, yeah.
I do want to open the floor to Gary real quick.
He was able to join us from work.
but you only got him for a couple minutes.
So anyone have any questions for Gary other than the obvious of how was that rock?
And do you still have that shit in the back of your head?
No.
Oh, there is.
All right.
So he looks like a normal haircut for, you know, the skull that's gone.
So Gary, explain to us what the shot clock rule is and how you used it to your advantage.
The shot clock rule is if the event is in motion by the time, like the event time elapses,
you can continue to progress with the event until you either make it or miss it.
And with the, I believe it was 200-pound Atlas Stone, it was like I was picking it as my time was running out.
And so I got it to the lap as time was elapsing and took a little breather in the lap and then continued to triple extend it and get it over onto the table platform shelf thing.
Yeah, it might have been the loudest of the RAMC,
Cota was that weekend for sure.
You got that.
That was like, that was awesome.
It was so funny.
It was so funny to me, Gary, because I was in the warm-up room with all of the bigger men,
like Lauren, Sam Haroff, Alan Larson, Kaden, and they're asking me, like, why we, I'd like
this shot clock room.
I'm like, I just, I love it when someone use it to their full advantage, and then they sit
there was with some an implement for like 90 seconds like just make it horrible and have to
fight through this and then literally you walked out on the floor and did it and I turned
her out of them I was like guys it was pretty cool wasn't it yeah that's awesome I had the same
feeling at the end of remember the Titans like that was good and Gary you uh you too you took
on some some some hardware this week too didn't you yeah um first place and 100 kilo
Masters won
and then
the Siliest Goose
Spirit Award.
Yeah, I think that was the
you buried the lead there, buddy.
I don't,
no one gives a shit
where you place
in powerlifting.
It's that wouldn't award.
That's a check name.
I mean,
I do, and that's really cool.
You said hardware.
That's fair.
That's fair.
You're right,
you're right.
But I think the,
the Hall of Fame checkmark
is the,
you know,
the cat's ass in that,
you know,
haul that you were able
to bring home with you.
And that was,
that was a fight.
That was a tough battle.
I think,
as well,
as you are deserving, the other two guys were
neck and neck right there too. There was
some characters this year. More
to what we've never had that. Like any other year
the three of you would have won potentially like or been
also in like the top two every year. It was there
between uh, you,
Sanchez and, uh,
Andy, you all brought some character with you for sure. And it
was very cool to kind of break up a lot of the,
you know, ho-hum. This, this is a lifting competition.
And it might not have been my cup of tea,
everything.
but a lot of people got into it and it was cool to see.
It was cool to see people enjoy the vibe.
Yeah, it was, it was really interesting.
It was a big surprise for me.
So I'm very happy and grateful that I was able to win that played award.
And hopefully Andy and Matt can get it in future years,
if not like a future silly goose coming into the Discord.
board. It was very prestigious. I forget if it was Bryce or Paul, but one was taking me aside and kind of like, you know, like, you got to keep it up now. Like, this is a story history here. You like, you got to keep being a silly goose. You got to keep reppping the title kind of thing. You can't just stop. And I don't know, it was at the zoo. I forget who it was. It was like, I mean, this isn't.
an act. This is who I am.
I can't just
turn it off.
So I'll keep being
weird Gary.
That makes it
so much better when the person who gets
the award, one, like, wasn't
vying for it. They were just being their natural
self.
And two,
wasn't expecting it, like he said. I didn't even know
I was going to get it. So it was just like the
perfect pick.
It was such a huge shock.
that's why I was like screaming and hollering the whole time like walking.
Did you scream louder after loading that 200 or getting the award?
I think didn't you scream or weren't you?
I could have swear you were like very animated after getting the award too,
but maybe I'm misremembering.
I think the duration was longer for the award.
I mean, I did scream after the atlust on two.
I didn't have much breath left after that though, so that's that's correct.
I mean, to be fair, I also screamed after the 202 and a half kilo deadlift,
the final deadlift.
too. I mean, I'm just a screamer.
I'm kind of like generally that way. We're both 40-something screaming. Whatever.
Just screaming.
Okay.
Screaming into the void?
Yes. No reason screaming.
I think one thing they didn't hit on during the awards was obviously there's like the three-tier,
so the first place is taller in the second place, etc.
When Seabas got up there, he was like 13.
feet tall. I swear to me, I meant him to be his daddrey, but he was very tall. And then to the
opposite of that, who was it? Was it when heinous was, or no, he was. No, Grayson. Yeah, when
Grayson finished first, the second place guy was so tall than him. Cody. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah,
so there was a lot of dichotomy and the height differences. Uh, that's what's cool, you know,
it was just a lot of different builds, a lot of different people, like, everyone just having fun.
It was a great lot of strong people for sure. Yes. Yeah, very. I hope, I hope to be strong one day.
but the awards who won the
oh yeah big Hogan
Big Hogan got the the Hall of Fame checkmark from
now now was that something
who was your committee of that
was it just you and Abby or did uh
um I like make a point
to like catch Tanner at least three times
throughout the competition and be like hey
who are you thinking and he every single time goes
I don't even know if I've seen anything
I have to do this
and like he didn't he didn't have any good options me i'd Hogan was my initial partially because i think
I had a little bit of bias just because I I judged the first two events and him and Nicole sat
directly behind me and cheered for every single person and at one point I like turned around
I'm like Hogan don't you have to like be deadlifting like you should why are you sitting behind
me like you're not Sam and you know I loaded all of Sam's warm-ups all weekend and he yeah then we
still didn't have a decision when we were like putting any equipment away and I grabbed every
single volunteer and was like hey give me a person and it was super not helpful because every single
person had a different person in their head and like I heard
heard like it was it I got Andy I got Hogan I got Cody I got Keith I got I'm not telling
I'm not kidding you I got like eight different people I got one vote I was I got one vote I was
I was Mark yeah we'll get into Mark we'll we'll finish this topic and me might as well
slide into that yeah he so yes I think Hogan was was very deserving of strong
We were proud of them.
Couldn't have gone to a better friend.
So that was very cool.
And we have,
yeah, it'll be good times.
I like good awards.
Yeah, let's, yeah, let's, let's, let's, let's, let's, let's, let's, let's, let's, let's, let's, let's, let's, let's, let's, let's, let's, let's, let's,
anything really stand out.
That was a funny story, uh, other than the memes that we've been since doing.
I never spoke to him, but I was just like, what is this guy recording.
because nothing that he was recording
looked like it was good.
Oh, no, I didn't see why.
I was just like, what are you going to do
with that footage, my dude?
Yeah, I think he were, so anyone not familiar
that you have to be, but there was a gentleman
at the Strongman show walking around
and the Power Living show.
So two days in a row, couldn't have been in anyone's way
anymore if he tried, was literally on the platform
of the Powerlopin meet at one point
and certainly had to kind of shoe him away.
and he would, I think he broached conversation with a hundred different people about a hundred different random fucking things that that person didn't want to talk about.
I overheard about five of these conversations and I, after overhearing one of the conversations, I knew it didn't want to talk to the guy.
And then after overhearing several more, I knew I would do everything I could to not talk to the guy.
So I literally would like, would get up and walk away.
I would turn my back to him.
I did not give that man an opportunity to speak to me.
And I feel bad for anybody else that got caught by him, but damn was it funny and damn did it make funny conversations.
I had, I think I conversed about him with several people of like, hey, avoid this guy, but watch, he, he, he caught someone in that corner and he's not going to let him go.
Yeah, I never spoke to him, but like, I almost like assumed he was supposed to be there.
Like, because he was like so in the way.
I'm like, surely like some important person with us that's recording for some reason.
I just thought he was like a strongman enthusiast.
And then they were doing the, what they were doing.
when they're doing the farmer sandals carries
and they announced to wait
it's like 180 or whatever
he's like oh is that total or in each can
I'm like well it's usually
it's in each hand it's usually
it's always in each hand right
and this is kind of the way he was like
talking about it's like I guess you're not
the news this I don't know why he's here
I don't know it was very interesting
do you Debo or Gary
he uh he
he came to talk to Jake one time
whenever I was sitting by Jake
during powerlifting.
And I was like just eyeing Jake the whole time.
I didn't even make eye contact or anything.
Oh man.
No one had any good story.
I didn't have any personal interactions with him,
but he,
the photo I called on this one,
he's in the background of my favorite,
one of my favorite photos from the weekend.
He's like dead center right behind me
and it like staring over my shoulder.
He's kind of a really thing for me now that I know all this about it.
Like several like that.
Yes.
Yeah.
It wasn't hard to be able to ask for a photo of him.
I was,
I was like,
is anyone actually going to do this?
Because I didn't know what I was going to do with it.
And then it got a mind of its own.
And everyone,
I could tell everyone.
I was like,
wait,
did only a few of us have this experience,
but the fact that like Discord has been blowing up with pictures of him and stories of him.
I think,
you know,
Matt Sesey,
he kept asking him about geared lifting and then followed him into the bathroom.
Like,
just like unrelated to having to go to the bathroom.
having to go to the bathroom, super fucking awkward.
Like, who does that kind of thing?
It's not going to shake itself, Keith.
I'm sure with that bitch.
He's actually the owner of the ring federal.
I mean, it is under new management.
That would even make sense because if, like,
if that was the case, it would make sense
why you walked around like you thought you fucking owned the place
because that's what you did.
Anyway, enough about that guy,
but it was worth getting some different perspectives for sure.
So that takes us to the Friday night party at Tanner's.
Always a good time there.
Always good food.
Always good people.
The photo this year was so big and mind boggling.
When Tanner posted the four photos, like I didn't believe.
I like I did, but like you almost had to like fact check.
And it was like, wasn't there like 50?
Like the first picture looks just so small.
But I remember like meeting and talking to everyone there and like I didn't feel like there wasn't a busy, a weekend full of people.
It was wild
I was in the backyard
and I feel like I didn't get to talk
to half of the people
that I wanted to
meet and say hi to
and it was just
and it was so enormous
there was just so many people
because I sat down and was eating with
Sam and Pavlo
and next thing I know
there did the ceremony
and it was like
time just flew by
Anybody have a scotch-reau for the first time?
Did you have a scotcheroo for the first time?
The chocolatey peanut butter, rice-christy treat thing?
We have those around here.
I'm kind of in the Midwest.
I actually, I missed him this year because I had eaten my food, I had a couple drinks.
I was like just mingling talking.
And then by the time I was like, man, I could go for some dessert now.
It was like an hour and a half later.
I was like, I'm not going to open her door and just go into Mary's kitchen like this far.
Like there was still like 50 people outside or more, but it was like, I don't know.
Is it like too late to go get food?
I felt awkward.
So I went without some dessert that night.
But the Hall of Fame ceremony, we big Kevin and big Toby.
I'm glad big table Toby was finally able to grace us.
They didn't talk about it on the other podcast, but I kind of want to put him on blast of why he didn't make it there.
Am I allowed Jake or is that private?
Because it's really funny.
I think it's fine.
So,
so,
so, anyone,
yeah,
anyone listen to this podcast,
knows that Toby,
you know,
what his previous job was.
So you would think he would understand that when to run,
you think he would carry a license with him
when he goes to rent a car,
because that's what happened.
When I found that out the next day,
I was like,
dude,
like,
I've only rented one car in my life,
but I would assume I need a license,
not a picture of my license,
but I don't know.
Maybe Arizona's a lot more digital and don't care.
And like,
yeah,
I'm assuming you can get away with it in other places
and it is common practice,
but I would just,
I don't travel.
I wouldn't fly without my,
how do you?
No, he flew.
What?
So he must have his past.
I don't know how he flew.
He said, because the TSA, he said some about TSA.
He doesn't like Arizona licenses.
So he knew he had to have his passport.
And then he has like, uh, Arizona must have like a digital ID because he had it like in his Apple wallet.
Okay.
So it's more an Arizona thing than a like, like Toby just didn't know what he needed like.
Yeah.
Because for all of us, right, it makes sense that you need a license to fly and to rent a car.
right?
Yeah.
I guess not, but I just thought it was funny.
I got him a little shit about it, I think, but I just...
Oh, trust me.
It brought me no joy.
Getting a message at 10.30 at night, the night before the competition,
hey, Jake, check your DMs.
I'm like, oh, I know.
Oh, no.
Yeah, that's tough, but we may answer.
But we got a...
So, yeah.
What he missed in the Strongman show he made up for?
by walking away with a Hall of Fame jacket.
And Kevin also, another one that couldn't have been more deservant.
Definitely cool to see your friends, you know, reach that status.
It's, you know, a lot of hard work went into those jackets and like tens of thousands of dollars and some,
or at least thousands of dollars in most of the cases, too, because shit ain't easy to,
shit is not easy or cheap to get to.
So, um, little, little Schwanty's action, unless anyone else had any, any other Friday night,
um, Tanner backyard?
ones to comments.
I don't want to keep you guys here too late.
I know I was late getting started, so I do apologize.
So I'm trying to get you out of here
in the next 20 minutes or less.
If anyone's got to go, just let me know.
Yeah, beautiful backyard.
Nice herb garden.
Was anyone there after dark
when the bugs really, really came out?
I know there's some pictures and videos
or who was there. I don't know if it was any of you guys.
It was not me.
Okay, fair.
The weird thing, but not the weird,
but I guess it's like most parties,
but like, I don't know.
I wouldn't say most parties.
Like, I'd never been to, that's the biggest it's ever been.
There had to be 250 people there like he had mentioned.
So it was just like the waves of people peeling off, like 10 people at a time kind of thing.
And it's just, you know, one thing that did stick out was big tron.
He had those, well, barefoot also, barefoot made custom shoes for, I'm assuming for Tanner or the gym or display.
I don't know what size they are, but they're like stalemak bottom does the soles.
And they actually use the same stalemats that he used for the gripper.
So they have the buttons.
And then Trond made.
flip-flops out of regular stuff,
more flat stall mat.
So it's still cool.
It just doesn't have the horse stall mat buttons on it.
But he did like some,
some heavy-duty like string for the,
for the toe thong and all that.
And he was not walking very well when we walked back.
Because he gave me, he gave me a ride of Schwannies and about halfway down the block.
He's like, got to get these fucking things off my feet.
I was like, yeah, I don't believe you.
That'd have to be, not even the rubber part,
but just like the homemade rope going into your toe and wrapping around her heel.
Yeah, that sounds.
that sounded horrible.
But it looked like there was different waves.
And they were heavy.
Yeah, yeah.
Trond wears shoes that he makes himself all the time.
Like he,
that string is like,
you can buy a kit to make your,
so that you can make your own flip-flop.
And that's,
that's what he wears all the time.
Okay.
So that wasn't as much,
well,
so then I guess it does come down to the fact that it was a four-pound stall mat
than a four-ounce fucking piece of leather or something.
That sure, that trot.
That does track.
that Trond would wear homemade shoes, like, outside of a bit, too.
That does make me sense.
That's Tron.
So I had, uh, there was an mass exodus there at the end.
And finally, we're trying to get people to go to Schwannies.
Jake might have one or two already at Tanner.
So he was, I wasn't sure if he's going to go or not.
And then Abby finally let him go, I guess.
And I think at one point I might have, I was going to hop in with you guys,
but then Trom was going to get me a ride.
And Tron was like, oh, yeah, I can just drop you off or I'll come in for one.
And then three hours later, Trom was the only one there at closing time.
time and I'm like Jesus Christ
Trond's like I went in for
I had a couple and just shot the shit for a few hours
but Trond was there well past everybody else
but Schwannies was a good time
any any good stories there
I didn't make it to Swannis
to Tron's to Trons
No I was already amazed since I had to compete
to next day that's true
oh yeah it must be nice to get to sleep and not be sick
before you compete what's that like
it was nice it was really good
I had really good dreams that night Keith
Did you, were you there?
Yeah.
Were you one of like the, the, the, the 50 crew that doubled up and shared rooms because I couldn't, I couldn't do the whole share in a room and listen to someone snore in a CPAP machine.
And I don't like sharing rooms.
No, I was not.
I was by myself.
So, yeah, that's, that's, that's, that's the move.
As expensive as it is, man, I don't know.
If you're, if you're used to it.
Yeah.
Yeah, I was saying, me a big sense with a room and, like, it was a little bit tight, but I thought it was fine.
Yeah.
Very good house guests.
nice
oh
I'm sorry
binabile
oh benabile
he's a good dude
binabio
um
my favorite part of shwanis
well other than like
just I texted Tanner
a picture of his
Schwannies
because he said he'd make it out
and people kind of knew he wouldn't
and then I even did a video
like saying where he at
like just egging him on
and yeah
that was that
and then
big uh
big Joe
big Joe to Seager
he
Last night he won MVP of Tanner's party, so we can talk about that for a second.
That gentleman, good friend now.
Got to know him a lot.
Hadn't just had podcasting with him before, but I hung out with him for several hours over the weekend.
He was pretty blitzed, as the kids like to call it this day, to where, I mean, they already said the other story, but damn it, if anyone saw it, he did get stuck in the breezeway, leaving Schwanis.
And then he couldn't figure out how to shut Jen's door to where Andrew had to get out of the front seat to, like, move his foot inside the car.
think. It was kind of confusing. And then, this was like around 11 or so because Jake was,
you know, adamant that he did stay at Shawnee's longer than me. And he did. I'll give him that.
But then we got, we got back, Jen got us back to the hotel. And she went to the bed. She went
to bed. And then four or five, me, David and Garrison and Joe and then a couple other people
like had met us. We just were shooting the shit down in the lobby at the hotel for another hour probably.
And then to the point that like Joe was talking, but like his sentences weren't coherent. And
And then he finally just got up and went to bed.
And then I thought I wouldn't see anyone that drunk the rest of the weekend until I possibly outdid it the next night.
But yeah, that was.
How much of those drunk people do you actually know we're drunk?
I know I was drunk.
I mean, can you really say?
Also, Joe power lifted so well the next day, which is just amazing.
Barry in the leave there, yeah, to like go out and he was like, oh, my shoulders hurt.
I don't even know.
He was like,
I'm in a total like 800 pounds or something.
He goes out and puts a huge total up for him.
And like that's awesome.
Hung over probably still drunk.
So I know we're,
wild.
He came up to us.
I was going to say,
did anyone talk about him pouring shots into all the cup level people?
Oh.
Oh, did they take him or did he drink them all?
No, like he was pouring shots in all the cups.
And I didn't even know he was doing it.
And so all of a sudden they're like,
yeah, we're going to cheers this.
And I'm like, oh, there's, there's a shot in here.
Oh, I was not expecting that.
So he was, he came, he came ready to party.
Did he get cup that night?
Like I, yeah.
Okay, so he got cups.
So he was, he was, he was, that makes, he was celebrating the Hall of Fame, man.
Yeah.
That's good, that's good stuff.
All right.
We had a couple, we had a couple power lifters.
Just how, how'd the show go, you know, every, any, any,
Derek and Brandon and I know you guys were there, any experiences.
Before you guys hop in, I got to hop out.
I got kids that need to.
I know.
I know this.
Sorry this one so late, guys.
I know you're good.
My kids are just harassing my life.
See you, Jake.
See you guys next weekend.
Bye.
Bye.
Jake.
Yes, sir.
All right.
Anybody else have time?
Anybody else get you to go soon?
I'm good for right now.
Cool.
Yep.
So, yeah.
I don't want to.
Yeah.
So it was my first powerlifting meet ever.
So it was kind of good.
Just kind of, everybody told me like the whole weekend.
They're like, you're going to be so spoiled.
Like if you go to a powerlifting meet that's not the lift hard live easy classic.
Like, and it's true, I think, just because everyone was super helpful.
Like in the warm up room even, it just kind of worked out where I was like, all right, all the tall people are going to this rack.
You know what I mean?
Like we just, I don't know, it just flowed really well.
And everybody was ready to give up advice and tips.
And, you know, if it was my turn up, you know, they'd yell at me to go.
And then poor Jess Sessney, I think I missed every single time telling her what my next attempt was.
So she had to like stay on me.
I'm like, sorry, I'm new here.
Did you spit it at her?
I probably did.
I think you got me in the forehead on like Wednesday or Thursday.
You fuck.
I think you paid me back at some point though.
I think I did.
What did I do?
I don't remember.
I think you just blatantly spit on me.
You can't do that.
I was a peasant.
Was that at the zoo?
Like I had leprosy or something.
That's the best story I've ever heard.
The fuck, he spit in my mouth and crew falls accidentally.
Yeah, yeah.
It's a different.
I'm sorry.
That's really funny.
No, it was funny.
I apologize.
You don't need to apologize.
I would have done it again.
It was really funny because I caught it in my mouth.
You did not.
Now you're just making shit off.
I made that part up.
That's fucking good.
Wow. That's, that's drunk. Oh, wow. Okay. Yeah. Enough about that guy. So you power. Yeah.
Yeah, but I was pretty happy with the day, you know, for the first time ever. I mean, it was, it was really good for me. So I enjoy it.
You got a total. That's good. I got some. I think I got all your, you got all your deadlifted video. That was, some big lifts for sure.
What was your last dead list again? Uh, 628.
There was a PR, like the squat and the bench. I think I had more there. Like, I did more even in
when I was peeking for it,
it just wasn't feeling great day of.
So it was like, all right, I just want to,
I really want to just go nine for nine.
You know, first meet, like, play it safe,
go nine for nine.
And then with deadlifts,
it was like last attempt.
And I was like,
I feel super good.
I'm just going to go for it.
Oh, yeah, man.
Awesome.
There's a hell of a poll, man.
Yeah, I appreciate that.
And you had more.
Yeah, I think I had a little bit more.
Yeah, not too much more.
I think it was a pretty good selection,
but I had, you know, it was right there.
That's awesome.
Derek,
I think I saw you a few times, like, camping out in that, like, Arboretum area.
You were just like, I got to get a way in the noise.
I got to go watch my lifts or something.
They might have been pre-show.
I'm not even sure, but I saw, I caught you out there a couple times.
Yeah, actually, in between flights, like when it wasn't my flight, I would go camp out there
just to kind of be away from some of the crowd noise and stuff.
But, I mean, it's just, you know, very atmosphere.
For me, I'm just probably not to be too hyped up for the entire meet.
So I just try to, like, be a little more even and that kind of stuff.
So, yeah, no, I had a great time.
Hit my lifts, you know, did enough, got a total, broke a thousand.
I'm happy with that.
You're in the club.
That's good stuff.
And, you know, like the spotters, the loaders, it's just so much fun.
Like, not only, like, being efficient, as it has always been,
but now even knowing it's, like, wasn't the Minnesota Department of Lifters,
it was true, but still accurate, it was spotted, at least for me on our platform
was just done real well.
And, yeah, nice and smooth.
I will say I'm appreciative of the Instagram.
Oh, sorry.
No, no, you go ahead, man.
I was appreciative of everybody putting up their Instagram videos, like you lifting, for example, like you were on the other platform.
I didn't see you lift one time, you know.
So it's kind of nice to replay that.
And then I went back a little bit earlier today and kind of looked through the live stream again.
So that was cool just to be able to stop and see everybody's third attempts and things like that is pretty good.
That live stream is like awesome.
Yeah.
It's worth thousands of dollars.
Like if many, like, was just some random prick, like,
they'd have to pay him thousands and thousands and thousands of dollars for that.
I don't know what they pay him in Masonomics books,
but it's probably not equivalent to the value that they get out of him.
But he's such a good guy that he would do it for free if they asked him to.
I don't know, but that was such a good Viat Live stream.
And several people kind of keeping an eye on that throughout the week.
Yeah.
I had family back home
they watched it and they were super appreciative of it
so
well that's rounding out
the awards for power lifting made me chuckle
because they had hinted
when they opened up the non-sanction
you know meet and got Jonah involved
after Dave exited himself out
it was going to be
oh we're going to have like less divisions
less awards less that I still feel like there was like
30 divisions and 30 awards but
Tanner did not give people their flowers
it was their name and then the next name
in the next day, which is great because that's what it needed because it was like any long,
I mean, I don't know, but it was like five seconds in between names it felt like, but that was
fine.
Yeah, I thought it was perfect.
Yeah, so where historically it's like, all right, this is, this is the person up there in the back.
Let's make room for them.
All right, they're walking down the hall.
All right.
Let 10 people get their pictures.
Give them the award, shake their hand.
Next.
So being a, the fact that we had a, you know, was such a large meat and he did speed read.
I think that was justified for sure.
and definitely it was just comical because I was like
wow he's done like 10 names in like 45 seconds
it's good stuff yeah
I finally got it to the ice cream place for the first time
and had like the best was it twisters or twisties
what's the place called twist cone
twist cone okay so yeah so I got like the
the blizzard adjacent thing they call a twister
and my god yeah I got like four top three three toppings in it
and it was like actually thoroughly mixed in
whereas if I go to any place here locally,
I can pay for as much double toppings as I want,
and it's just all in, like, the top third,
and the rest is just shitty ice cream.
And so I'm like, God damn, I got to hit that.
I don't know how I haven't made it there the previous three years,
but that was made me happy.
Let's see.
The unpaid and underrated T-shirt did sell out officially.
There was a few left that made it into the...
I don't want to call it the clearance bin because it wasn't, like,
old bullshit stock.
There's a lot of like good stuff in that bin, but it was like just stuff he had limited sizes.
And I think there was like three U and you and you're gone.
The next time I looked like a couple hours later.
So I'm going to say ding, ding, ding, they are officially sold out of two t-shirts in the last, you know, three years as a random podcast about a podcast, which is us just interviewing our friends and doing shit like this.
Like, I think that's pretty cool.
Appreciate you guys of support.
Need a hat now.
That's a, I would fart in a hat for you for sure.
Absolutely.
You and you have.
You do that with a heart and you can spit.
I wonder what the minimum.
I bet the minimum run has got to be like 50 hats.
Like could we sell 50 hats?
Like,
yeah,
maybe.
I don't know.
But if it's 100,
I don't know,
I don't know,
maybe.
Did you hear that,
Tanner?
People want a hat.
So we'll see.
I'd buy a hat.
Yes.
That'll work.
Um,
sad.
We want,
let's hit the grip contest because we can end on the zoo.
So let's go through anything Sunday.
The grip contest was awesome.
I underperformed the first two dramatically.
I didn't even do the second event because I know it wasn't going to be able to get the three second minimum or the two second minimum.
The deadlift I didn't do great in.
But the medley at the end was just fun,
especially if like,
because you being in the heavier class,
like even though guys were stronger than me and the lighter classes,
just the way it ascended up by weight classes,
I got to like see like 15 people do it before me and like their strategy.
And then like,
you know,
when to give up kind of thing and saw people fight like,
30, saw people use like 30% of their time on an implement that like you could tell they probably
weren't going to get. So I was like, okay, if I can't get it in like two seconds, I'm moving on.
And then I'll have time to circle back if you need to. But that was fun. Saw a lot of really strong
dudes, do a lot of cool shit. And that was just a good time. Never seen that many people in the
gym. I've seen maybe like 20, 30 people in the gym at once. Maybe not even 30, like 20. 20,
20 is probably the most I've ever seen in that gym. I don't know who else was there Sunday,
but there was more than 20 people.
There was more than 30 people.
There was more than 40 people for sure.
There was a lot of people.
Yeah, they were all crowded in that back room.
And their overflow and then the main room of people that were just like just
conversating in there.
But everyone in the back room was all either participant or actively watching what was going on.
Like it was full engagement.
Which was cool.
Really cool.
Yeah.
The medley was probably like you're saying the best thing about it.
Like it was very fun.
like and it's kind of choose your own adventure and that was something I was talking with
Matt Sanchez about like what's the ideal strategy and I think I think it was Steve
Cotaldo Bam Bam who did like the reverse course he started with the rocks and worked his way
forward yeah I'm not in suit yeah like that that seemed like the winning strat
he was using two hands at once yeah that yeah like a monkey that's cool it actually worked out
that like, um, that, I think like, I think, uh, D.C. Matt was right, but mostly Matt was right behind him and the score going into that or like, I don't know where they were at, but, but I think because, well, Bam Bam ended up winning. So, and I heard Matt when he saw, uh, Bam Bam do two hands, he's like, fuck, I should have done that. Cause like, it, it seemed to be this, because there was multiple implements that you could double fist if you're strong enough. And that saves you, like, you know, several seconds to, to be able to, you know, try the harder stuff. But yeah, big, big, big curve.
I tried to get Kurt on the podcast.
You wouldn't able to kind of commit to the time.
And it's just what it is.
It is what it is.
Time zones and work.
I get it.
But that would have been a, I would have liked him to chat about it.
But I know we think we covered a lot of that.
And it was really cool.
It sounds like it's going to happen again.
It was a lot of fun.
I had a lot of fun doing that with Nicole, too.
And I hope he does do it again next year, a similar type of medley like that, especially.
Yeah.
It's a lot of fun.
And then most of us, I think, actually.
exited the dean Sunday.
Some of us might have stuck around.
I think, you know, some people still stuck around until Monday, but being able to get
a late flight Sunday really held Braden.
You had, you had to pull the Keith, which is what I've done historically is I got to,
I got to leave the zoo super early because I got a fucking 6 a.m.
flight on Sunday or, or a drive that I have to be an MSP or crew falls, you know,
to where I need to be out of the hotel by five or six.
So I didn't have to do that this year.
Yeah, we took the early flight out.
That's like one regret I have is I didn't stick around for grip because that,
When he first told me that that was happening, it was kind of like on like the, hey, low-key, like this might end up happening.
When he was here in Kentucky when we were doing another grip contest out here.
And so I was like, oh, that's awesome.
But it just didn't make work, Mike makes sense like for the flights for me this time.
But yeah, Andrew Hainis, big Kyle Erickson and myself flew out that morning.
And, yeah.
So at least I had some buddies though to we all cried about not being there.
Yeah.
Do anyone see the live stream of it?
Because I,
I,
many was setting up cameras like after the,
the first event after the deadlift.
So I don't know.
I went and pulled,
it definitely has the whole medley and maybe some of the deadlift.
I went and pulled my medley and,
like,
just screen recorded it and made that a story or a post.
But I know everyone's medley should be on that.
And it was,
you know,
it's big mini quality.
It was only on Twitch,
though.
I don't think it made it to YouTube because I don't,
it's just,
it's just not on YouTube.
So it's definitely on his Twitch channel, though.
So check it out there.
Yeah, because it's on the side of enough, but I just wasn't sure if it actually made.
Yeah, DM big mini to, if anyone's not familiar.
I did post the link in Discord at some point.
DM, DM Genilie, and she'll find it for you.
I'll try.
All right.
I got one other topic for the zoo, I guess.
There was a missing bag of dicks, if anyone's not familiar.
I wish I wish some more people involved might have been here to kind of contribute to this,
because I might be the only one that knows what I'm talking about.
So I had the bag of dicks at one point.
Did you?
Okay, well, there's two bags.
I saw the bag of the dicks at one point.
This is where some of the confusion comes in place.
Oh, yeah, they passed me.
My hands in a world.
So a month ago, I got the Amazon package of three hard candy bag of dicks.
I opened one.
I was like, ha, ha, funny, took a picture with it.
It was the worst candy in the fucking world.
Unlike the gummy bears, which actually enjoyed in my mouth, this is a dick.
I did not want it in his mouth.
So, yeah, that's what I said.
I don't want a dick in my...
What was wrong with the flavor?
It was just, it literally had no flavor.
It was just, it was like hard as a rock, and then it was just like chalk.
So it doesn't taste like a dick.
Yeah, yeah.
It was, it didn't even take this.
It would smell like a dick.
Oh, that good, good callback to the fucking, oh, wow, that was a good one.
We talked about smelly, what a dick smells like a while ago twice.
Anyway, so in my head, I was like, I'm bringing these.
I'm either doing it at the local gym, which I didn't think would have got as big of a laugh or, but I also didn't really want to bring them on my carry on.
But I was like, fuck it.
I'm going to take them to Aberdeen.
So I had two like hard candy bag of dicks that just say like, look at this dick, you're a dick.
Something, something stupid and witty, whatever it was.
and my goal was to kind of sneak him into someone's gym bag or something.
And I fucked up and Andy caught me.
Like I put it in his backpack,
but he immediately turned around and saw me like stand up and like clearly I had fucked with his bag.
So then he caught me immediately.
So I didn't even like see him take it out of his bag.
I just told him like,
yeah, there's a bag of dicks in your bag.
Pay it forward.
And he was like, cool.
And I'd have not talked to him about it since.
So I don't know if he did or did not pay that forward.
I hope it did.
And then at Schwannie's Friday night,
I, Jen can deny that it was her bag.
she wants. I don't care. It had to have been
Jen's bag because it was right where she's sitting.
She was in the bathroom, but I don't know.
I don't see Jen maybe leave. Regardless.
What I put a bag of dicks in what I thought was
Jen's bag, her fanny pack.
And we'll, she denies
that it was her bag.
David Hunter said I saw me put it in what he thought was her
fanny pack also. So I think everyone's being a big
long con and trying to get me to just go around and ask
people, hey, have you seen this bag of dicks? Because I did
at the zoo. I think I asked like 10 people
about anyone that had a black fanny pack,
asked if they had a bag of dicks. Anyone with the black fanny pack that was at Schwanis,
caveat, I asked if they had a, you know, a bag of dicks. And no one knew about it.
So I don't fucking know. I don't know. But it sounds like you guys had some dicks in your hands.
So it made my day. And I guess I'll have to figure out a way to get some more bag of dicks out there next year.
And then that'll take us to the zoo in general. Tell one tells us take it away.
I had a blast of the zoo. It was a lot of fun just seeing everyone,
congregate together. The main bar is obviously a little loud, so I think there's a lot of crew
kind of in the back, by that back table. And in the front way they play the formal and stuff,
seemed like a lot of people kind of congregate outside. The picture, I think Big Sterling pointed out,
there's a picture of everyone that was at that zoo at the time, and that picture is wild.
If you go back and find it in the Discord, just like all the looks on everyone's face,
everyone's looking at something else, something different, and everyone is.
The one in the smoking section on the back porch.
been shocked and, you know, whatever.
Yeah, it's, it's pretty funny.
Yeah.
There were a few group photos I must have been inside for because I was like,
oh, man, that would have been cool.
Like, I was there, God damn it.
Yeah.
You're top shelf probably.
That's a crazy vibe.
Did make a top shelf.
So, Keith, how many drinks do you think you'd have estimate?
I think, I think that night I said 17.
Realistically, it's at least a dozen.
But it was all, like, so like,
I knew I didn't want to drink beer because I was just like,
I think, I've had.
I've been having better luck with not getting as sick or hung over with a vodka soda, basically.
And so I had a couple of vodka sodas.
And then Mary was buying, I don't know if Mary was buying it.
I think Kyle Erickson ended up buying it.
But Mary was like, we need shots.
And he was like, I got it.
So then, and they were going to do some, I think, I don't know, a dark liquor that I didn't want to drink.
And I'm just like, no, I'm not switching fucking liquor brands tonight.
I'm drinking clear liquor all night.
And then that made this whole bit of, I'm drinking clear liquor.
liquor. And when I was sober adjacent, I kind of leaned into it, like, pretend, like, I'm
drinking clear liquor. Ha, ha, ha. And then later in the night, I was so drunk that it was just
like, I just kept saying, it wasn't ironic at that point. It was like reality because that was my
personality that night became clear liquor and like part of my conversations. I had a lot
of conversations really, really inebriated. And, you know, I have three or four people.
I had a little interview. Yeah, Andy. Andy interviewed me. Andy interviewed a lot of drunk people, though,
I think.
Uh-huh.
He sure did.
So I can't wait.
I think he's either editing it and sending it to Nate or he's sending a lot of the raw footage to Nate and Nate probably just sit on it.
I don't know, but it'll, uh, I think everything in there wanted to be heavily edited to, like, make an actual consumable real that's like, like, enjoyable and not just like.
Oh, it's going to be enjoyable.
But yeah, the zoo is always fun.
I feel like we had them, we had such a, we had the monopoly for about two hours there.
like we were the entire like inside because usually we all end up being outside but like that first
couple hours like we held on before the townies got there even more so than maybe in the past and
it was just it was cool to like not not have to like navigate between townies and crew for at least
a good portion of the night um and it was just a blast man yeah and as usual everyone kind of irish
buys and you know everyone made them safe so yeah yeah as far as I know I don't uh you
everyone had a good, for the most part, everyone had a good time.
I know I did.
And anyone that thinks I'm a raging alcoholic that does this every year.
I don't think anyone in crew has really seen me drunk.
Like, maybe like five, six beer buzz, but like not drunk.
Like, I've never been drunk.
You were pretty drunk at Crew Falls last year.
Was I?
Yes.
That's fair.
That's like really safe.
You and I are both still drunk where we woke up the next day.
Yeah.
You and Jake.
Because Debo took you to the airport.
Fair.
But even that night.
I was like, so if that was like a seven, fucking the zoo was like an 11, though,
like for perspective of how I felt and how, how, like, the room.
But I mean, I never, it didn't, well, once you said, I spit on you, that kind of made
a vague memory back.
But, like, I vividly remember, like, the majority of my conversations.
I had, like, I talked in-depth with Alan Larson for a while.
I talked to Rusty and, well, what's Rusty's name?
The one that wins all the competitions.
Stormy.
Yeah, Stormy.
I talked to them for a while.
I've talked to,
I've talked to,
uh,
what's the Canadian dude?
Uh,
that's just north of us.
Bam.
Hello.
Yeah,
Florian.
I never,
I'd,
like,
I've seen him the last couple years or maybe just last year,
but I've never really like had an in-depth conversation with him.
I talked to him for a good while.
Um,
he's like,
this,
so it was nice to kind of expand like,
my,
my circle of 20 crew that I'm like really tight with and like,
kind of like expand to talk to more people like more than surface level was,
was fun for me.
Apparently I did that drunk.
So I don't know how much.
like it got below surface level or not.
But I remember the majority of the conversations.
And then, yeah, at some point there was some top shelf action.
I don't even remember, I don't know,
I might have came back in for a drink and got drug up on stage.
I'm guessing.
I might have had something to do with it.
That's a thing.
Do you remember dropping it like it was hot?
I do.
I do remember shaking my ass.
I was pretty proud of that.
Like the mobility.
And then seeing on video, I was like,
Oh, I really did, like, get low.
You got low.
I'm curious if anyone actually, like, in the audience, saw it,
or it was just, like, the four, or five of us on stage
and no one else was really watching.
Because, like, I'd like to have been, like, a fly on the wall
and actually watch that, like, you know, versus the videos.
How did your knee feel afterwards?
I have no, man.
I have no pain from that other than, other than my foot,
which maybe my foot's better now.
I didn't even give Jake a hard time about that.
But other than, I think the only thing it hurt the whole weekend was
when I got the trailer door smashed on my foot.
but other than that, minimal pain all weekend.
But yeah, generally, I think she drugged me.
She kept making me drink or drink.
I don't know what you were.
Was that tequila?
Yours was so much stronger than mine.
Like my vodka and soda did not taste.
That wasn't mine.
Oh, it wasn't mine.
I took that from somebody else.
And they told me it was water.
Oh, fuck that.
That's fire water.
What the fuck that is.
I looked at Andy and I said, is this water?
And he said, yes.
Oh, that's fucked up.
It was like a double or a triple.
It did not.
Like all my, all my drinks were like nice and like, you know, mild.
That was a hot drink.
It was, you know, I think Debo must have warmed up the chili when that's what it tasted like.
The chili was hot.
Hogan's cards.
Everyone got some, some, a chance to pull some of those.
I randomly opened.
I think I got another one in at the zoo and ended up pulling Genelie, Ginnelly and Jonathan, like, while with them, which was just wild.
Yeah.
And that like blew my mind and even blew my drunk mind like 10 times more than probably should have.
So that was that was a whole thing.
But yeah.
The cards are awesome.
And they just get better.
The more the more like sets get released, I think it just gets better.
Like it's awesome.
I got to sign like five of them.
That's cool.
I do.
I felt like Barry Bonds.
I do like.
I've seen people sign like their picture part.
But to me that kind of like to me that ruins the card to some extent.
But I so then I saw this for the first time.
maybe it's everyone's been doing it, but people have them signed the back,
which just says crew card or whatever, like, well, that's the move.
That's just cool, but, like, you're not distorting, like, Hogan's hard work.
I just asked them where they wanted me to sign it.
There you go.
But, yeah, that was.
That's what professionals would do.
That's right.
That's right.
Yeah, that was the lift, hard, live easy in a nutshell.
The longest of weekend, I can't even say it's weekend.
We literally got there, some of us got there when most, a lot of us got there,
when most a lot of us got there Wednesday some the latest i think people got there
Thursday some people trickled on Friday but anyone coming Friday was just a power lifter that
either wasn't friends with strongman or maybe it was like their first show i didn't see a whole
lot of people that i knew came in Friday that weren't like there for the the whole weekend uh
so it was really cool to uh you know it was such a long event and yeah it's worth it's
worth taking the extra time off work i think i i historically always take Wednesday off
before I travel on Thursday anyway,
just have like a prep day.
So this year I just didn't have a prep day.
I just took the Wednesday off.
And man,
I don't,
I don't regret it.
That extra day,
it just made acclimating for the,
you know,
just being there.
I wouldn't have wanted to show up Thursday night
and compete Saturday morning.
Or,
I'm sorry,
show up.
Yeah,
no,
no,
we competed Friday.
So I wouldn't have wanted to show up Thursday night
and then compete Friday a.m.
That sounds harsh.
There was a lot of hot tub shenanigans,
a lot of pool shenanigans.
I heard there was a D&D game.
played at the pool so that's cool a little in-person role play yeah uh boardroom actually
big scott sent it up yeah yeah sweet big scott kevin uh friendly neighbor who lived a big chris
yeah it was a lot of fun uh big eddie uh cornfield islander was in there big alitz oh yeah
met met a lot of people so brandon and debo probably well even uh derrick i don't know like i feel
how many people do you think you met that you'd not ever seen in person
Because you'd really only, unless they came to Columbus or home JimCon, you wouldn't have cross pass with them.
So that had to be, you know, maybe only 50 people you would have crossed past with.
So you, did you meet 100 people?
Or did you actually meet 20 and then you just observed another 70?
I tried to meet everybody.
I could.
Yeah.
I was also going to crew falls helped, I think.
Oh, yeah.
That's right.
You guys were at the more locals.
Yeah, I forgot that.
I knew you were there.
But, like, I'd never met Jen before.
I'd never met Scants.
So those are kind of like some OGs that I'd never met
Yeah, but yeah
I tried to meet everybody I could
What about you, Derek?
Oh no, man, I've been more people
I don't know, yes, I've been to a handful
I feel like it's a lot of the same crew showing up each time
And kind of layers on.
So yeah, I don't know, it's hard to keep everyone straight
I agree, I mean I know I've made like 25 to 30 new
conversations besides the ones that we've had on the internet.
But like, I got to talk with Jonathan and Julie a lot more this time than I did at
Crew Falls.
I don't know how it never came up, but like.
Well, they were only at Crew Falls for like the, the way.
We did have to leave quick.
Yeah.
Okay.
You didn't, you didn't just ignore them Saturday, Debo.
They literally weren't there.
They weren't there.
Well, I was like, I remember seeing them at the group.
him the cold shoulder Saturday, man.
Yeah, right.
But, like, even people like Lauren, like I spent a lot of time with him at Crew Falls and talked to him.
And, you know, like, it was just in passing during the strong man or power lifting, we would say hi, a couple things.
And just random things like that, just being able to hiccup right where we left off almost.
it just wasn't like, you know, 12 or 18 weeks ago that we saw these people.
It feels like it was yesterday.
No big deal.
All right.
In closing, anyone, if we not touching anything, anyone thinks we should hear about any funny stories, any personal isms, what it meant to you, anything like that.
If you had to sell it or somebody, I mean, we could have to work.
I was just like, I'm kind of spoiled because I don't have to drive at all, obviously.
We live here.
But every day during the week and weekend, you know, I would just would look up and I would just be like looking around.
I can't believe that I'm actually a part of all this now.
You know, it's just so cool, especially since Jonathan and I did just watch from the sidelines for so long.
And I was just going to say, movie we would touch on next year a little bit.
People are already so excited about that now because that's always the case, right?
when it gets done, right?
And I think enough people are talking about the fact that I still don't have a voice here,
but we're probably going to be doing it in June.
That's, that's, there's been hinted at it.
I didn't want to put, you know, I wasn't going to, but so many people said it that I know.
Yeah, I think Tanner asked, Tanner was the first thing he asked me in Wednesday night was,
what do you think of we do this in early June?
And that's switching around.
Yeah.
Because the home gymcon is already set.
And if we keep this the same week, then there's the same seven days fucking split between it.
And it ruins everyone's vacations because nobody wants to do to several thousand-dollar vacations back-to-back.
Because it sucks.
And then we'll switch around the powerlifting and the strong man probably so that they get a chance to go first too.
If that's the case, I might not roll in.
That would actually say me.
I would probably still roll in Thursday then if that's the case because I only needed my one day before.
But I don't know.
It'd be hard to miss out a whole other day.
It's hard to say.
I also wonder, it seemed that there was a lot of crew that did both.
I think we tried to count like eight, maybe more,
a crew that did both Strongman and Powerlifting.
And in terms of sports, if you're going to do both, I don't know,
it seems like you might want to do powerlifting first,
just a little less dynamic.
And I don't know, yeah, it might work out for people who are trying to double dip as well.
I don't know.
But I did have to.
Anyway.
Gary, was that you? I had to explain to what Iron Man was?
I think that, I think when I asked, I was like, hey, are you doing Iron Man this weekend?
And you're like, what?
Yeah, not a big sports guy, sorry.
We don't have sports in Goblin Land.
Fair enough, fair enough.
Then I think with just the strong man alone,
it will be really interesting to watch unfold.
Now that Jake knows, like,
he can ask Jonathan to build him about anything,
that might get kind of fun to see.
Then you might have to power lift
because if you can't have a competitive advantage,
so we're going to have to probably force you to power.
We're going to vote you out of strong.
There we go again.
Oh, no.
She has better access to equipment.
It's so.
Well, no.
Like, when it's, when it's nice.
Only when it's mystery.
Only when it's,
I didn't care of one week before the comp that
dead of far arrived.
They catch us so much shit for it.
We didn't like you.
We didn't give you shit.
We don't get people.
Jonathan built like so many people that dumb out too.
Like, it wasn't even known.
I don't know that it helps that much, honestly.
Well, no, I was more hinting at the,
maybe she knew the mystery events.
more of a choice. Oh, I sure did not. I absolutely
did not. I know. I'm just busting balls.
I do have a funny story. Yeah, yeah. I love
funny stories. Okay, so
we all know the running story between Moe and Scants.
Right? Yeah, they're twins.
So we're standing back there by the booth
during Strongman. Moe's got his little thing
set up with his meat sticks and the weightlifting
straps and Heather looks at me and says isn't Scantz supposed to be competing right now?
And I'm like, he is.
She goes, why is he over here?
I was like, that's not Scantz, that's Mo.
That's really funny.
And so it just fed right into the bit.
I couldn't help it.
I was just laughing so hard.
She genuinely thought it was Scants.
That's great.
I can't with Tom and
Andrew
and
Bono
I can't tell them three apart and somebody
who called me out on that and told them
who did that
that's not a far stretch
and Vonno always gets happy
because he's like because he's like he
you know he thinks he's like oh Tom's more jack to me that's awesome
you think I'm Tom.
Yeah.
Derek, I think I asked you to do an ad read and I completely forgot to set you up.
So if you have one, great.
If not, if it's not something you're proud of and want to put out, we don't have to do it.
I just didn't want to make you feel bad if you did one and have prepared.
No, you know what?
I'll save it for some other time.
I think it's a good read, but I don't think we really need it.
Yeah.
This one thing wasn't that really.

Groundbeat Gary on the Discord and at MPC underscore Gary on Instagram.
What's your social, Gary?
My social is 555.
Let's say 69-0420.
And generally where you're at?
Instagram generally.
And I think Discord is big generally.
or as Gary said, local over 40 screaming.
No, nice.
That was a good callback.
If anyone's still listening to this and you're on our Discord, in Massonomics Discord, that is,
and you want to meet new crew, and you're a little timid about putting your Instagram and your Discord profile, as we suggest so often.
And we understand why some people have reservations.
If you're in other discords, don't do that.
But Big Curd came up with a little hack around that.
Go to your pronoun.
And unless you're adamant that your pronoun needs to be stated, you can make your pronoun.
Hey, this is my IG.
So, you know, you put your just fucking screen name and play, you know, this is my Instagram, however you want to tight it.
But you can do that and that won't carry from Discord to Discord.
So I know Kurt is always a big proponent of don't do that because I'm a gamer and I don't want fucking people following me to my personal Instagram from my gaming account, whatever.
So I understand that.
If that's, you know, if you're in multiple Discord, don't do that.
But I still think Jen and I have a valid point that we want to find each other on Instagram because a random stupid fucking emoji picture and I don't know who you are on Discord isn't going to help me get to know you ever or care about.
about you in some extent because I do, I think most people do with the majority of their conversations on Instagram.
Not to say the Discord doesn't have some, but I don't, for the masses, I do think Instagram is where we talk to each other individually.
So I think everyone, most of us can agree to that.
So we have an Instagram unpaid and underrated.
We got all kinds of cool stuff you can go do there, the, you know, go talk about discord stuff on unpaid and underrated in Massonomics Discord.
I'm too tired to not butcher that up.
I guess I have me through on Instagram.
More importantly, go follow membership than I want to sell her and see next Tuesday, Hong Kong.
Love you guys. See you in December.
