All right, welcome back to episode 172 of the unpaid and underrated podcast, a podcast by crew for crew.
I'm your fill-in co-host, Big Jen, and I'm joined by Big Keith.
Howdy, howdy.
And we have Wesley Honeycut as our guest today.
Do you go by Wesley or do you go by Wes?
Either one's fine.
Some people call me one thing, some do another.
I don't really have a preference either way, whatever.
I know you went to be in the line, don't you?
I never thought to call you West.
That's a whole other thing.
I got to now Jen just,
Jen just ruined what I'm going to think of the whole night.
Like, Wes, who the fuck's West?
It's like this fourth person on the podcast.
Wesley.
We're putting our foot down.
It's Wesley.
At least his name is Wesley.
The worst is when their name isn't what they want to be called.
And I'm like, I'm looking at the screen.
I needed to say what the name you want to be called.
You can call me whatever.
I don't care.
All right, Wesley.
Before we even get started, I had reached out to Wesley and was asking me a few questions.
And I reached out to a couple other people.
And one of the main things that they were telling me, including Wesley, was that we were going to have to have a translator to understand what he was talking about.
I think Keith, where you grew up, you might understand him a little bit better.
I might have trouble.
Kind of depends.
So we're going to play maybe a game where we're going to tally how many times we have to either stop and ask you what the heck you just said or what the heck you mean.
So I think let's do an over-under.
So maybe, Keith, if we pick a number like three or four,
we think this is going to happen three or four times.
Yeah.
And then you and I pick over-over-under.
Okay.
So then the number is for the right number maybe?
Because that would either be three or five.
So four is the number.
All right.
That's what sucks.
I think four might be the number, though.
So it's like that's where it's tricky.
It's like you got to pick the number that you really think it'll be.
But also it's kind of gamifying because we can literally
you know, am I going to win?
I just better ask him one more time, but no.
If we're honest and unbiased with our reviews of Wesley's grammar,
we'll, so if it's four is the number, I'm going to go under.
Okay.
He's going under.
All right.
I'll go over just because I might be able to understand him,
but what if there's things he's talking about that I don't.
Well, yeah, I'm, he's going to say like some weird fucking, you know,
farm animal involved analogy that we don't get in some like euphism,
whatever that word is.
Eugenism?
Yeah, that one.
I mean,
you'll probably have to ask me what I mean more times than you.
Just because I fuck up.
That's probably true.
But no, that's be fun.
I was suspect of this because you have very, very good written grammar,
Leslie.
So I was excited to actually hear you talk in person.
I try to talk a lot better than I talk.
Oh, so do you drink?
No.
Okay.
I was going to say, does that make the situation work?
Well, that's probably good for someone that already struggles with an accent.
I think that is pretty common that when you are drinking, if you had an accident, like, I hear that still.
Like my Stephanie says, like, you really don't sound like you're from West Virginia unless you're been drinking.
And I was like, I don't know how true that is now, 20 years removed.
but I know it was true years ago.
I heard with a C-thought that your accent might come out tonight with having Leslie around.
And that is, that's fair too, because when I'm around my family, I'm like, wait, why am I talking like this?
I've not used to. I haven't talked like this since 2008, so.
We tend to leave a few syllables out of words.
He's usually one of the yes.
Oh, yeah.
Well, we got some general topics.
So we got big gin here as the guest co-host this week.
So as we have some guest co-host periodically, I'd like to kind of give them the floor,
give them, you know, make a little mini, a mini, a mini, last week we got a little mini Jeff
podcast. This week we'll have a little mini Jen podcast. So Jen, uh, do you want to hit us with
some, what's, what's new? It's been a, you know, at least a year or so since we probably
had John here. Yeah, I would say the biggest one for me is I'm officially an empty nestor.
And you guys know how I like to cry. So leading up to, uh, him,
moving out. It was pretty rough there for a while, but we're getting settled in now. And
things are gone okay. He's found a job. He starts school here next week. Yeah, and things have been
going really good. How far away did he go to school or how far away is he living from home now?
Yeah, right now. So he'll be only an hour away for the first year. So I know a lot of schools do
this now, but you can do a lot of AP courses through your school and get college credit. So he's
already got a year of college under his belt through high school, so saved me quite a bit of money.
And so he's just going to finish up here in Des Moines, which is like a, like I said, an hour
away, but it's pretty close to the Costco. We have that huge conversation about how far Costco
are away from everybody. So it's a cost, the closest Costco to me is only about a mile away from him.
So at least I'll be able to see him when we go up and do our Costco show.
shopping and stuff. Next year, though, I'll be a little bit more northern, so he'll be two,
two hours or so north of us, but still, it's still very doable. No, no, not horrible.
So, no, is that become the normal trend now that more people go to college that parents are
paying? Because, like, I don't think very few of my friends' parents ever paid for any tuition.
They met a co-signed loans, but that's about it. But it seems like this new generation of,
like, there's kids that have never ridden the bus in their life. And that, like,
just expect that they're going to get a $100,000 with a college debt not in their name because
their parents are going to take it on. So that's just such a foreign concept to me growing up,
very lower middle class that it was like never an option to getting kind of taken care of like
that. So I don't know if that's, is that individualized or is that become the norm?
I don't know. I guess from Iowa, same as you. I did not grow up with a lot of money.
and we were in huge student debt when I graduated college, and that was fun to take care of my adult career.
But I just decided, it might just be the personality of the parent.
We do live in a pretty rich community, but I'm not rich, but I plan.
So the second I had a baby belly, we went to the bank, and I said, I need to set up a college loan.
And we worked on putting money away just a teeny bit every month.
And now we just have enough.
And then find a good money manager.
Oh, yeah.
Shout out.
Shout out, Jess.
He'll help you, you know, make sure it's growing in the right way.
And yeah.
That's the one thing I really wanted to give him, you know.
No, that's very admirable.
And having the one kid probably makes it a lot easier too.
Yeah.
If you had three kids and you're like, oh, well, you guys just get your first year taken care of.
And then the rest of it, you're on your own kind of help him get off the ground.
Yeah, but we always made sure he had to have a job. So when he was 15, he's had a job since then and has been working quite a few hours. And he made sure he got a job right away the second he moved out. So we don't pay for everything. No, no, no, that's very cool. So what are you guys? What do you think the biggest just because you know your husband works a lot of overnights and stuff? So now you're going to literally be alone at the house. Is that probably going to be the hardest thing then? Whereas he was always there. And now that's like you're legit going to be alone for hours upon hours? Or is that not a
issue? I don't know that that's going to be an issue.
Have a little bit of privacy. Full-blown privacy back will be nice, maybe.
Yeah, for sure. So I've found some books I want to read, made a list of some books,
found some shows I want to read. And I just have this list of just things I want to do.
Are the books in the room, or do you need to go grab them? You need to go grab them?
I'm good. I'm good. I won't get up. All right. Stay seated. It's a seated podcast. I mean, the
the best things really are done seated, you know, you really get the biggest back for your book.
That's true. I mean, it's just the best way to do a podcast as I've learned.
I brought a camping chair in here, so I'm seated too.
Oh, nice, nice.
But already Jean's like throwing out ideas for things they can do.
I felt, you know, when you have another person, I'm in the home, they want to make sure that you're including them and make sure they have, if they don't have plans, you're not making plans without them.
So now it's just the two of us.
So like, what do you want to do this weekend?
And hey, we want to go to a movie.
And so we've already started, like, thinking about things we want to do when we actually do have time together
because we really only get every other weekend.
So I think I'll be okay.
I'll just have to make sure I keep myself busy on.
It's really harder on the weekends that he's working that I get a little bit bored.
So I can't find someone hang out with.
It gets boring.
But I'll make it work.
tracks that tracks um i've got a little i hate con i hate dealing with contractors i hate dealing with
shitty it's like dealing with like the best contractor in the world is still already a headache um
shitty like bad contractors is the worst so we got a little bit of driveway work done a new apron
and extension and like the first like five feet that was all cracked out like all report for
you know a couple grand whatever it was a really good price and then come to find out a couple months into the
you know, from the time we get the bid to, you know, very poor communication.
People show up in my door, like, 8 o'clock at night on a Sunday to, like, take measurements.
And I'm like, are you fucking kidding me?
It's like, not a heads up.
It's a fucking weekend, dude.
And, like, watching them stake it out and being like, hey, this isn't going to be agreed upon.
It was supposed to be three feet.
This is like two foot six.
I'm like, what the fuck?
Like, not a big deal, but that's where I parked my car and I want the full extension.
And then they never fixed it.
Never fixed it.
Never fixed it. Told the owner about it.
Didn't really seem to care.
Or on the phone, he'd be like, oh, yeah, we'll take care of it.
and then doesn't left a pile of dirt in the yard that I've been asking for to come to get for two weeks.
It's like just just nothing, just nonstop bullshit.
So that's been awesome.
So yeah.
Kind of my fault for not handling it from the beginning because, but, you know, it's just been frustrating.
Very frustrating.
Yeah.
I feel like in those cases, you kind of just put your faith in.
There's just certain people that you put your faith in.
And when they don't, they don't meet that faith or meet your ex,
expectation. It's just so heartbreaking and it's so frustrating. And yeah. It was a very large expense for us. So
yeah, for sure. Have it be such a frustrating process from every step of the way. And we were actually
going to bring them, we were initially scheduled to get them to seal coat later in the season,
even though it's already pretty late in the season, just once the driveway had cured or whatever. And
we called and canceled. We were like, we don't want to deal with you anymore. You guys,
we just lost our money. Yeah, it's like, we're not going to ever work with you again. And it's just
not a not a satisfactory product or communication.
So I wonder if that's,
I wonder if that's something where like in your town is obviously way bigger than my,
I think we have 10,000 people in my town,
which is a big city for me.
But it's so,
it's small enough that we know who's good,
who's not.
So I wonder if that's harder when you're in a bigger city and you're just,
you know,
you have overwhelming amount of options to choose from.
I mean, even the Google reviews,
like he had a couple hundred Google reviews.
and like 80% of them were all three, four or five stars.
There's only a couple negatives.
But as I'm like looking back at the negative ones now,
and I'm like, yeah, I experienced that.
Yep, I experienced.
Yep, yep.
All of those things.
It just sucks that you get that small percentage of the time that he,
here they did bad.
Yeah.
Speaking of home repairs, that is, that's just the worst.
So we have to get a new vent in our bathroom because it's actually not,
We figured out it's not venting to the outside.
I was just going right in the attic, isn't it?
It's quite, and so.
It's pretty common.
It's been, which wasn't so bad, but we had a bunch of hail damage probably a year or so ago,
and we had to get a new roof.
And then it's just, and we end up having to do HVAC system.
So it's like in this compounded things where with the nicer roof and the nicer HVAC,
we're now noticing that there's been a bunch of condensation building up.
So now there's mold above the bathroom.
It's like a whole freaking.
It's like once you like, your kids leave and you're like, oh, we might have just a little extra money.
And it's like, bam.
There's this $2,000 bill every couple months for some random shit at the house.
The part that pisses me off the most is it's just shit that nobody can see.
So, hey, I just spent $2,000 getting a little bit of new drywall and some insulation so that my house isn't rolled over.
It's like, come on.
It just stinks.
Like, whatever.
It is very frustrating.
Just, it sucks being an adult, Keith.
Indeed, indeed.
And then we had a comment, same thing.
Like, we have had nothing but trouble.
We remodeled our kitchen probably like five-ish years ago.
So we kind of worked through.
It was a little bit after 2020.
So I think it ended in 2021.
And we got, so we got new appliances.
So appliance is about five years old, and we've had nothing but trouble.
We've already had to have the refrigerator worked on.
And then I don't know if you saw it, but I put a questionnaire in the discord the other day about if you have a favorite burner on your stove.
Oh, I did see a lot of chatter about that.
And you don't really realize you have a favorite burner until that burner doesn't work anymore.
You're like, oh, damn it.
I can't use that burner.
So it's an LTE appliance where it goes.
it can like heat up super fast.
Just that one burner.
And so I love it.
But now it's either off or on.
There's no setting gauge in between.
So I burnt an omelet.
I burn a cassidia.
And I was cooking some meal prep meat.
And I'm like, why is it boiling that I finally figured out, oh, it doesn't.
Oh, you just thought you were like, it was a fluke three times in a row before you
realized, oh, the burner is a thousand degrees.
Yeah.
should be 500 or whatever.
I thought, my first thought was, oh, man, I might get a new pan.
Like, it's, the sticky stuff's gone.
It's like, it's not non-stick anymore.
Nope, turned out.
It was the burner.
It's like, dang it.
So we've got to figure that out, too.
Just stuff that you pay for.
It just really sucks.
Yeah.
Everything costs money.
Getting to South Dakota costs money.
I did pull the trigger on my tickets the other week and then was mocked on how I should
be spending significantly less money.
I'm like, okay, well, I bought my tickets a year out and got the best price possible.
So sorry that, sorry it cost me, you know, hundreds of dollars more to get somewhere because I fly out of a tiny little airport and don't want to show up a day late and drive six hours once I land in Minnesota.
So I'm good.
I know, but it's fun.
I can find you.
Yeah.
It's the best getting picked on and not, you know, it's fine like 90% of the time.
It's that 10% of the time when you're already in a shitty mood and you're like, this mother.
motherfucker like and then it's like are you being funny or are you being a prick because some some there are
some there are you being funny or are you being a prick? It's just they catches you on the wrong day and
I just kind of just look at discord and don't open it the rest of the day because I'm like,
fuck all those motherfuckers. But for the most part everybody's cool. You know that most you have to
lean towards most of us and just giving you shit. I know I know. Some days are just harder than others.
Screw all the other people. It's fine. Speaking of hard days, like so big Jake had a hard day.
couple of few days ago. Have we got a final update? Did he get an MRI? I haven't actually seen
I haven't seen it either. I haven't seen if it was a tear or what it was. But something happened. I mean,
you don't hear a pop if it's just like superficial. So there's something torn and he'll be, you know,
I did try to go check to see, but I haven't seen anything come through. But I and I could have very
well missed it. So that kind of stinks. But that did have me thinking too. So like say, you know,
I don't know, 100 years ago,
80 years ago, 50 years ago before, like, surgeons actually started reattaching ligaments for, like,
athletic ability. That dude's just walking with a gimp the rest of his life.
Yeah.
Like, that's just, like, people are just, like, so Tanner would be literally crippled if there
wasn't, like, modern medicine.
Like, think about that for a minute of, like, the shit we take for granted that we can get
away with and get fixed that would potentially put you out of work.
And, like, if this was like, if you were, like, running a homestead, you wouldn't literally
be able to work on your farm or something.
if you randomly blew both your knees playing noon ball.
So I hope Jake has a speedy recovery and that it's not as, you know,
I feel like he's giving me extra squats now to compensate for him not being able to squat maybe.
I'm not sure.
I think all his clients are going to fucking show up in the next six months is like the biggest quads ever
because he's just like, fuck these guys.
They're squatting twice now.
I need some more quads to cover my hamstrings because a poor guy.
I also, I join.
joined Jake's team and so he's doing my weekly training and it's been going really good except for
he right when I started I had a little bit of an injury and I know you guys heard it um you tore your
ass twice didn't you I was I went from half asses a whole ass it I did finally go um so I've been
telling Jake in my notes that it's just it hurts so bad and I tried to tell him I don't lie Jake
I'm not trying to get out of anything.
I want to lift.
So I try to prevent, I don't want to go play pickball.
I don't want to go play noon ball.
Like, I don't want to do anything that's risking me to not be able to lift because I did some stupid thing that I'm not used to.
Anyway, so I went up to get a physical therapy assessment.
And I think I have some minor tears where the hamstring meets the, it's attached to the pelvic bone.
Okay.
And I said the same thing as Jake.
Like I'm going to have to get an MRI to get it figured out.
But they didn't think it would be anything surgery or not.
So I just have to make the decision if I waited out a couple weeks, see how it goes.
If I want to come in and do physical therapy, if I want to go see a ortho, I don't know.
So we'll play it by ear.
I think if I can get, poor Jake's had a bad week, so I didn't want to bug him.
But if him and I can have a conversation, like, is there ways for me to work around it?
I think there probably is where I can still be strong, just maybe not in the,
it's really just conventional deadlift that has bothered me.
If that's literally the only thing, I think you'd be, yeah.
There's, what if you, have you said you, have you tried to, like, has he had done
elevated deadlifts at all?
Like, like, that's range of motion?
That was one of the, I think that's what refired back up.
Yeah.
Okay, okay.
Yeah, so I'm just not as good at those.
You can squat.
It doesn't, like, you can, like, full range of motion squat.
Okay.
Yeah.
Yeah, I'm a little range of most squat.
So this week, I-
Squat him twice a week, and definitely then, and no more deadlifts.
This week, instead, I wasn't able to get Jake's attention.
So I just put, loaded up my farmer's handles into, because I don't have a trap bar.
So I think I'm going to try to look for a trap bar because that movement doesn't bother me as much.
It's a little quad and quad-dominate.
Yep, yep.
And my next comp is a side handle, a car deadlift.
Gotcha.
And so I just-
A trapboard would be a good investment.
Yeah.
Yeah.
So I think I've been watching a marketplace to see if I could find a, I mean, I really want to open one, but I might have to just get a hex one to start and then trade up for a.
Another option too.
You said you don't have farmer sandals.
No, I, so this week I actually loaded up my farmer's handles and just deadlifted that way to.
Because do you have the attachment?
Which type of do you have front loaded or top loaded?
The worst.
Oh, shitty front loaded ones.
It was like if you had the Titan top loaded ones or something similar, you could buy the adapter to turn it.
into a frame.
Oh, yeah.
Instead of,
get trap art,
when you can just frame
deadlift,
but that's a whole different,
the whole,
you know,
if you're not already invested there,
it's kind of hard to, like,
make that full.
Well, I will be.
I did ask Jonathan,
um,
if he could make me some.
So after the,
after the comp,
I liked him enough that I knew I had the next com
coming up with farmers,
carries.
Um,
so I asked if he could make it.
And,
uh,
I had already had planned on going up and watching,
uh,
Hannah and Gena Lee compete at their competition.
So it's like one day it just dawned to me like well what the hell? Why don't I actually like ask him and then
pick them up. I'm going to be there anyway. So there you go. Yeah. So I reached out and said,
hey, I'm coming up there anyway. Is there any way you could quote him without shipping and I'll
just pick him up for me? So yeah. So he's going to work on it. He thinks the time he's going to work out.
And okay. So I'm excited to use those. So. Well, hopefully hopefully you can find a way to just even if you
just trap our deadlift for six months and let your ass heal you. I think like like,
Contrary to what everyone likes to shit on trap bar deadlift, it's still a very valuable tool.
It might not replicate a deadlift 100%, but if you can't deadlift, it's better than not doing anything.
You know, it is more squat than deadlift-ish, but also it's fucking, it's not not a deadlift.
Right, exactly.
So we'll see how it goes.
All right.
Anybody gets a chance to watch Big Brandon Doyle's home gym tour this week?
It just hit today.
So I know it's always hard for people to get it consumed, but I don't know if anybody got a glance at it.
it's pretty early here for us, or at least probably, I think, Wesley, you're in the same time as
me as was pretty early. I started it. I'm about halfway through. So often, usually that's
another thing I do when Sean's at work is watch all the gym, the gym tour. So I'll catch up tonight
after, after the podcast. But so far, so good. Yeah, it's a good one. I know he was nervous about it.
He was, he's texting our group chat. He's like, I don't sound like a dumb ass. I was like,
no, dude. Like, you're very well spoken. You weren't nervous. Like, it was, it was very
crew. I think my favorite part about it was so
like even Tanner made a
comment about it, you know,
how many crew they, how many
pieces in his gym or like
knickknacks or anything had
crew origin stories. And then there
was like 20 different crew shoutouts. It was
very cool to hear. So yeah,
anything, I'm a big fan of
Big Emily's gym down there
in Louisville. So it was cool to see Brandon.
She'll give a tour of her gym.
I actually watched it while
I was lifting a while ago.
Oh, yeah.
anything stand out. Well, you've been there too.
I've been there, yeah. I think I was the first one to sign the banner on the line.
Yeah. He made me full aware that I was not the first honeycutt to sign the goddamn
banner, you motherfucker. I forgot to bring that up. You guys have the same damn last name. You're like twins.
Yeah. I've never met another honeycut in my life that I wasn't married, that wasn't related to.
I wasn't married. I just said I was fucking never met when I was married to. I never met when I was related to. And I've,
I wish I knew more.
Like I've got no relationship.
Like my dad never,
I never met my dad's dad.
So I have no relationship with that side of the family outside of like my dad,
his brother's and my grandma.
So like I don't know anything about my lineage on that side.
Really.
So I wouldn't be surprised.
I mean,
I'm from West Virginia.
He's from Kentucky.
Big maps up there.
Those states do touch and we ain't that far away.
So like it'd be fucking hard press if there's not some family tree crossover.
I don't know.
That'd be,
that's pretty wild.
But I mean,
you guys are from the south.
I actually traced mine back on the Ancestry Act a few weeks ago.
Was he actually Uncle Keith?
I don't, I didn't, I just done like my direct cleanse.
I didn't do like the brothers and sisters.
All right.
The honey cuts on my side have only been here for like five generations or so.
But my real dad was like 60 something when I was born.
So that kind of throws a green chin a little bit.
Yeah.
All righty.
So then this week's episode, that would have been the call-in episode or the call-out episode as it was.
Oh, yeah.
Did you get your voice?
You weren't on that this week.
Where are you, Wesley?
No.
Some of those was one of the guys on there.
One of your buddies was on, wasn't he?
Was Hunter on for some reason?
Oh, am I just drawing a blank?
I don't think he was.
Maybe.
I don't think so.
I think Jake, uh, I think Jakey was on there.
Yeah, he, he basically got his voice on there and then his phone cut out.
because he was like high up in a hotel or something.
And so I don't, I don't, I might be a misremembering, but I don't believe he even got to ask a question.
He just basically did small, small talk for 30 seconds and got disconnected.
I was like, that's not bedtime when they do that.
Yeah, you're telling me.
That's the fucking, the East Coast thing.
And then they, you know, they don't start calling people till almost 11 our time.
It seems like, okay, bud, it's, it's, I'm glad I did my phone did not ring.
I also don't like spoilers.
I like listening to that Monday morning.
I did miss this week's episode completely.
So I'll have the whole episode to listen to this weekend.
Oh, nice.
I usually do.
I kind of like Sundays are kind of slow.
Like as in like,
you know, Stephanie's already in bed by 8 o'clock.
So I have that couple hour window unless there's Game of Thrones or something on TV.
Like I'm like, oh, I can do the podcast real cool.
You know, I just, I don't drive as much anymore at work.
So I don't have the built in two hour drive every day to consume podcast.
So, you know, if I don't listen to it on Sunday, I might not get to it during the week until later in the week.
So it's kind of nice to knock it out.
But yeah, great episode.
Love hearing all the boys talk and the girls.
The girl.
Yeah.
It was like the girls episode because we got 69.
Yeah.
Or Hannah won away from getting the 69th cup.
But it was like, first of all, those two got their cup.
And then I think wasn't Katie's question the actual title of the episode?
I'm pretty sure.
I know it was, I don't remember.
Katie was asleep.
I don't know how she even asked a question.
Her voice and her, because like, I obviously, we know Katie.
So like, it didn't even sound like her.
It was so like, like, just like, and then she explained, she had such a long day or whatever.
So it made sense.
But it was just like, wow, this, this girl is tired.
But just before I forget, I'll go ahead and give it a five out of five sleepy Katie's.
I'm going to give it 10 out of 10 Mount Redmore questions.
I did love, what was it?
It was Vano's wife, Vano or Vonneau, Andrew in Ohio.
Oh, yeah, yep.
His wife literally answered the phone for him.
And they like blew Tanner and Tommy's mom, well, Tanner's mind specifically.
He was like, wait, who is this?
And then it turns out she's actually, you know, he signed her up for a supporting member anyway.
So it was actually kind of funny because she got a check mark passively, not really probably even knowing much about us.
Yeah, what it is.
How come you didn't give me shit?
When I said 10 out of 10, Mount Rushmore is, but you get a joke.
Oh, God.
Yeah, what the fuck?
Nate, you got to edit that out.
Well, you got to do it.
Take your mulligan, redo it.
Take it again.
No, it's, you know, I'm going to think about a whole episode and fucking judge you.
So we can not move on.
And I'm just going to hit end.
Okay, fine.
It's not 10 out of 10.
It's five out of five Mount Rushmore questions.
There we go.
Everybody asked a Mount Rushmore question.
What about you, Wesley?
What did you think of it?
I didn't get to finish all of it, but I gave it five out of five for what little bit I did get to listen to that.
I guess five out of five from the women's episodes.
There you go.
Yeah, hell yeah.
Women's episodes.
Five out of five.
That's not as far as I've made it.
That was pretty cool.
Well, we got some affiliates, guys.
So obsidian ammonia, plate snacks, and belt fed strength.
They are all our friends.
We got a little bit of discount for you guys.
Hughes code unpaid.
It's a little bit of money at Obsidian plate snacks and belt fed strength.
Now, Jan, did you?
you have anything for Massonomics or Jim Raider, sponsor, Reid.
Do you want to hit us with?
I'm going to flat out say I'm going to wing this, but go to Massanomics.com
slash support or go to gemrader.com and create an account for your gem.
And just join the community.
I have made so many friends.
And in fact, without social media, I don't know if I would survive because I've made a bunch of friends.
And it's all because of Tanner and Tom.
me and it's people that I'm going to visit at their homes for the rest of my life.
And it's people I chat with every single day.
And this community is just great.
So those that make fun of it don't get it.
And they're missing out.
So come join us.
Come be a part of it.
And you won't regret it.
We love you guys.
Well said.
Very well said.
All right.
Well, this is the point where we're going to pivot to Big Wesley Honeycutt.
How you doing, sir?
You're okay.
How about you got?
Not too bad.
Not too bad.
So go ahead and fill us in on who you are.
Where can we find you?
On the internet.
This isn't,
I asked someone that a couple weeks ago,
and I must not have been clear up,
because they started telling me where they're from.
And I'm like, wait,
the where you're from question comes later.
This is just,
where can we find you online?
Yeah.
Well, I mean, it's out there, I'm sure.
Oh, yeah.
I think my Instagram is Wesley Honeycutt 3.
I'm pretty sure.
That's bad I don't know my own Instagram handle
but I'm pretty sure that's what it is.
Yeah.
Good deal, good deal.
And then you've been around for a little bit here.
Let's hear that origin story of Massonomics.
How did you find them?
And why are you still here?
I've actually listened to the podcast since like 2021, I think.
Oh, wow.
I didn't join.
I was, I think, 2021.
I was there before the supporting membership.
I remember when they started that,
but I didn't join right away.
But I think I've been a support member for right at a year now.
Okay, cool.
I was looking, I just started.
like this job I was driving a lot and I was by myself working a lot so I had more time for
podcasts so I had to hunt some more lifting podcasts and like I followed on Instagram forever and
somehow I knew about their podcast I guess through Instagram or something and then I went back
and listened to a bunch of the old like when they had when they had guests and stuff on there a lot
like John Hack and some of the old ones and yeah I just kept listening I finally decided to
spend the three dollars a month you get a
Yeah, I just bought a house.
I remember that come out and I was like, I was thinking,
there's no way I'll do that.
I just bought a house and everything just got right.
I was like, three extra dollars a month.
No way.
Finally, I was like, you just have to take one less shower of month, right?
Yeah.
I'll save $3.
So you have a couple friends that also are in crude.
So it sounds like you might have started before they did.
Did you get them into it?
I think I've listened to the podcast for a long.
I probably told them about the podcast and stuff.
I think I joined before a hundred,
but we all joined kind of around the same time, I think.
Yeah.
Yeah.
I probably told them about it.
I'm pretty sure.
More than likely, they might not.
I'm not 100% sure.
So I guess to piggyback off some of that,
where do you actually live?
And where are you from?
I live in the eastern Kentucky.
you. I've lived like, I was born like the next county over, so I've lived in this area
almost in Virginia. We're like 20 minutes from Virginia right on the,
okay, right on the southeast border. That's why I talk like this.
Like what?
Yeah, like what? I've only been to Kentucky once because the corporation I work with has a
facility in Murray, but I think that's middle Kentucky, right? Like, I don't know.
I've never heard of it, so probably.
I don't think it was very big, but.
I think Kentucky has the most counties of any state.
So those counties I hear about that I've never heard of before.
Yeah.
I could see that.
I saw something interesting other day.
It was,
I remember where,
it was something on Facebook.
And I think it was like,
oh,
it was a teacher at like one of my local,
one of the schools I used to go to or something like that.
Or someone had become the principal.
And then, like,
in his little bio blurb,
he had three kids and each kid was named after a West Virginia.
Virginia County. So I thought that was kind of neat. And then I was like going through my head. I was like there's enough county names like like I don't know what his kids name are, but like Harrison, Braxton. That's literally the only two that are coming to my. There's like, but in the, I was in the shower listening or I was just thinking about it. And I was going through my head. And I could think of like 10 or 15 right off my head. But obviously now I'm freezing and I can't think of any more. But it's just I didn't know if that was how common that is for people to like take counties. So have so much pride in their state and their counties. I, I,
Maybe it's just because it's from a smaller state and, you know, there's a ton of counties that it made more sense to me.
But I was just like, oh, that is kind of interesting.
I think Virginia, around me, you could make a name out of this.
There's probably all people's last names that whoever founded it at some point.
Yeah, for sure.
So you have been around quite a while, really, only a couple years, you know, after me, I suppose.
So what's that one piece of Massonomics merch
or something that you just didn't get a chance to get
that you're hoping that they could bring back.
So you could purchase it.
Maybe some type of hat.
I'm kind of wishing I've got the lift hat
at the home gym call.
I didn't.
Oh, no.
You didn't show up a little late on Saturday, right?
They had some, but I just, I didn't, for whatever reason, I didn't get.
I don't know why.
I got the license plate, but I didn't get the hat.
I'm a hat guy.
so any sort of.
And you missed out,
you missed out.
I know what I missed out.
It's a good one.
I don't know I didn't think about it when I was there,
but I did.
Well,
home gymcom is pretty overwhelming too.
So it's kind of,
I can see being like,
well,
the first thing I want to do
is not maybe not shell out all this money.
I'll just circle back to them.
And then it's like,
oh,
fuck it's gone.
I told like 10 people
I'd come back to the booth
to get something and never made,
like some of I went back to and they'd sold out
by the barbell rescue.
I was like,
I'll come back and get one.
I was only first.
I was like, I don't want to pack this around all day.
I went back and he was like, oh, we're sold out.
Oh, shoot.
I ordered one.
That is, bro.
Nice.
Code unpaid if you're not.
Hopefully you did.
Oh, Kim was there.
I guess maybe I didn't see that.
Yeah, Ken's there for sure.
Kim hasn't missed.
He's been at every single one.
He has never missed one.
My one follow up on that is when you first said that you had told 10 booths that
you were going to come back.
I was going to follow up with like, what was that because you just have like that
Southern charm and you were just trying to be,
there was the polite way of saying your shit sucks.
so you know good luck fuck off and then but like you actually did want to go back
maybe maybe a couple of them figured as much i'll come back yeah because that's kind of my go-to
it's like oh yeah i told like 30 people i'd circle back and never did just because it was like
like i'm good i don't want to talk once i told me how much it was i was like oh yeah i'll i'm
come back and i'm like i mean some stuff though it's you're paying for the i was listening to a podcast
today even they were talking about how some of the smaller companies their shit is like you know
might be four times, but you could get something on Amazon, but you're not just buying a product.
You're supporting a small business.
You're supporting this guy's work ethic and this American-made product that, you know, not everyone has to support them.
But some people, you know, choose to spend their money and where, you know, it's nice to see people, you know, still support your friends that are busting their ass to keep those little side hustles going.
But it would be frustrating, though, if you go into Home JimCon, you think, you know, I kind of want to take a scan because,
Maybe I have a budget.
I only want to spend so much money.
And then all of a sudden,
now you know, okay, these are the three things that I want and you go back and it's gone.
Oh, man, that would, that would seem.
I have to build a lot of stuff too.
I've seen some stuff and I was like,
maybe I want this much.
I could make that.
I have the stuff at home.
I could make that.
Oh, my God.
Wesley, we talk about that all the time.
My girlfriends and I will go to some stupid show or whatever.
And then I'll be like,
I'm not paying that.
I'm going to, I'll make it myself.
And then I never make it.
So good on you if you actually make it.
Yeah, I seem to arm ass and like a hammer curl attachment.
I was like, I really like that.
I had some of that stuff at home and a welder.
I came home and welded my own.
Oh, heck yeah.
Yeah.
Oh, man, you can weld too.
Jeez.
Not good.
I can weld enough to like hold stuff together to use it.
Welter Jason.
Yeah.
I can do a lot of stuff okay enough to use.
but not.
But you wouldn't sell it.
Yeah.
Safe for me, but I wouldn't trust it with somebody else.
Once you paint over it, it looks okay.
Yeah, yeah.
Put a little bondo in there.
Yeah.
All right,
Big Wesley.
What's that Hall of Fame status looking like?
Where are you at right now with tonight's episode?
I think I have six.
My card's over here.
I forgot to grab it off the thing,
but I think I have six.
I can go grab it or you can read them off.
I can tell you what I have.
It's just right across the...
Sure.
No, you're good.
I'd rather you say.
I rather keep your ass in the seat.
But I got you.
All right.
So attend lift, hard, live easy, no.
Competit lift, everybody's, no.
Attend the Arnold, yes.
So one.
Someone keep count of the ones.
I got it.
Yes.
Attend crew falls.
No.
Supporting member one year.
Yes.
Yeah.
Number two years.
Yeah.
Nope.
Not yet.
Oh, no.
Like I think I've got about a year right now.
I'm pretty sure.
All right.
Drink spotter.
A little over.
Yeah.
Band merchandise.
You got anything with the Lyft logo or?
or some of the other beer stuff, okay.
Place 10 online orders?
Yeah.
Oh, dope.
That's actually, that's good for only being here for, well, okay, so you bought a lot of shit before you recruit.
I bought a stuff before, yeah.
Makes sense, makes sense.
Contest prize winner, probably not.
Voice on the podcast, not yet.
Voice on our podcast, yes.
Post a picture with a sporting member.
I know you got one of those floating around.
You haven't been to Massonomics Gym.
was your backlog
journey for
Masonomics podcast
I've not listened
all in a year
All right
So what's he got
You probably would have
very much though
He's got six
Yeah
He's dead on
That's what he thought
Nice
Heck yeah
I know it was six
Six with us
We're saving with it
That was pretty sure six
So
Yeah
If you started listening
2021
I think I started listening
In 2020
there
It felt like
I could get through
The
Or no
I started listening
In 2019
I guess
And then I caught up
In 2020
When we had
A lot of extra
Time
Yeah
Yeah
Yeah, that extra, honestly, if it wasn't for that extra time, I might not have, I mean, I hopefully would have found them.
But I was, it was like week one of being laid off, painting my living room.
And, you know, I needed something to listen to.
And I was like, oh, what are these guys talking about?
Seven years later, six years later, you know, couldn't imagine a world without this community.
All right, Wesley, we know where your Hall of Fame is.
Do you, well, you probably don't have any supporting membership information than do you?
because you wouldn't have been around for the,
for the, for the, uh, for the, uh, credit card.
No, I have no idea what the, what the number is.
Big Tanner, I'll let you know.
You're probably in the, let's see, so you're at a year,
just at a year, you said. So I'm going to guess a little over maybe you're,
I'm going to guess your, fuck six,
high six is probably, I'd say, might be a, a guess.
I don't know. Could be higher, could be lower somewhere in there.
Yeah, what was last week?
Oh, he did. So, Florian.
And, well, no, because he...
He was in the sixes, wasn't he?
I could have swore he told him on Instagram.
He was fucking.
He did.
I just don't remember what it was.
Like, like, surprising.
Oh, I don't think it was that low.
Well, you asked some questions and I'll look it up because I'm curious enough now to...
So, Wesley, are you, you're sitting in your gym?
I can see it.
Yeah.
Are you on gym radar?
Yeah.
Heck yeah.
What's your, what's your, what's your gym name?
Are you certified?
Franklin,
Ranch Marbell, yeah. I'm certified. I think I look at the date like a year tomorrow I'll be certified too. So I got around the same.
Are you the green one, the gym radar or massonomics?
The massonomics one. Yeah. Yeah. O.G. Nice. I was taking, actually taking a look at some of your your pictures because I got a little bit of a preview. I love your gym logo. Who did your gym logo?
Chat GPT.
Did you just give it a picture?
a wennie.
Picture of
Winnie and the
west side barbell
logo and I said
make this
the cap
instead of the dog.
I think the
best part of it's
the bow tie
that gets me.
She used to wear
one all the time
we took it off
and I actually bought
one the other day
and put it on her
and she acted
like she couldn't walk.
You know how
you put something
on the cat
and just lay down
I had to end up
taking it back
taking it back off
over here.
I would have never
pinned you as a
as a cat person
but I love that
I love that you are.
You just have
the
cat?
Yeah.
Yeah.
I love the name too.
So she was actually named.
She was actually named when we got her.
We're like the third people that's owned her.
I don't know.
He's real good.
But like I think some people found her then gave her away to one of my life's friends.
And they were they had some other.
She's real timid.
So all their other animals were kind of mean to her.
So she gave her to us.
So she doesn't like she.
She likes being an only, only cat.
That makes sense.
Is she inside outside or just inside?
She's inside.
She wouldn't survive outside long.
Not with that bowtie, not for sure.
No, no.
You're too fancy.
Yeah.
So I know you had to send out the survey to some people,
and I know a little bit about some of it,
but did you have to send it to anybody that didn't understand what UNU was?
Have you ever had to explain to what anybody was?
what UNU is or what Masonomics is.
I think the people that filled it out
already knew what it was.
Yeah.
So the rest of my family wouldn't.
They don't really know what podcast are, let alone
trying to explain this.
I mean, it wasn't worth the headache of trying to go through with it.
Besides my life, I just kind of explained to her just a little.
Yeah.
I think your wife's the only one that gave us anything that wouldn't have been in the
no.
Yeah.
Yeah.
She's going through it with the pregnancy right now.
So I kind of had to keep on her.
She's been kind of seeking stuff a lot, so she didn't really, she wasn't too wanting to do it to.
You know what I mean?
She said, that's some other stuff going on.
Not when you're not feeling well.
That's no good.
I want to piggyback off of that with a least fun, most fun.
You just met, you kind of triggered something in my brain.
You talked about your parents not necessarily liking technology and or using technology.
So have you ever played least fun, most fun?
before? I've heard
the PIP played on here before, but not.
Okay, well, all you have to do
is I'm going to give you one topic and you just
give me the least fun
part about it and the most fun part about it.
So same topic, least fun, most
fun. So,
least fun, most fun, having parents
that don't know anything about
technology or want to use technology.
Well, I use technology a little bit,
but just not social media. They have cell phones
and watch. They know how to get on YouTube
and stuff, but
we're on YouTube so you're going to share them that list.
I'm going to get on that honeycut newsletter and post your video on YouTube so
then it'll circle down to them.
The least fun and most fun.
Most fun is I can post all my lifting videos on Instagram and not have to hear about
how I'm going to hurt my back and stuff all the time and how I'm going to die and everything.
The least fun is I didn't think of that.
That's a good one actually.
Yeah, yeah.
I guess the least fun is like you just kind of take for granted now,
like when somebody posts something on Facebook,
like everyone's seen it.
You go to them,
like you have to send them every picture.
Like something you want somebody to say,
you have to send it to them individually.
You know what I mean?
Instead of having to,
like you can't just assume like I post this on Facebook,
everybody knows about it like something,
except them, you have to,
or they'll call and be like,
if someone's something's saying anything on Facebook
about something that's happening,
and you have to screenshot it and send it.
So they don't, they want to know what's on Facebook.
They just don't want to have Facebook.
I just don't want it themselves, you know.
Oh, my goodness.
They don't understand it really, I don't guess.
They never got on it to begin with.
I mean, I guess what would be worse?
Like, my parents get on it and then call me with questions like, how do you do this and how do you do that?
And you have to explain it.
I'm like, oh, my gosh.
Like, I can't deal with this.
So I think that would be better than.
They got their internet when I started college and I had to have it.
Like that's when they finally got internet at home.
So they're kind of, they're still fairly new to.
Is this a regional?
Was it more a regional?
Yeah, that's my question.
29.
My question was how old are they?
Because you had.
My mom is in her early 60s in my step, in my stepdad.
He's in his like mid 50s.
Okay.
So it's just kind of a regional thing around here.
You know, we get, we get stuff a little late.
coming into this far of the world.
There's a lot more like old-fashioned people around here,
you know, but I don't know, they're slow to adopt new.
That's not new, but you know,
nobody else in my family had it really either, so.
So is it a struggle where you live to,
I guess I don't know how big of the area you live in,
but is it a struggle to get internet?
Like, I know sometimes it's, it's tough to get good internet.
We got pretty good internet up here.
I live like in town.
If you want to air quotes town we live in,
it's like one street.
but you can get good in here.
I think a lot of ours was more of like a...
That was another $40 a month.
They would have paid for a bit to extend to...
That makes sense.
Yeah.
All right.
I got a submitted question from one of the Mats,
Big Stoll Matt, Matt, and it took me a while to actually realize what the question
was asking, but when I figured it out, I kind of laughed.
So I'm going to pose it to you, so let's see.
Oh, gosh, it's like a riddle.
Yeah.
It's like a riddle.
So, well, this, the answer's a pun. So, and you'll get it. The question essentially is, I'm on a deficit right now to lose weight. My macros only allow for pollen products, pollen products refined by bees. What is a good name for this diet? So he's trying to lose weight and he can only eat something that comes out of a bee. What would that be cool? There you go. I've read that thing like three fucking times because it was like through an Instagram submission and I was just like,
The fuck is he asking?
And then I'm like, oh, we have the, that name is funny.
I get it.
I love that you guys actually, like, Wesley had no problem getting it.
And I'm like, what in the hell is it?
It took me a second.
But like, when we got married, my wife is about like honey bee themed things.
Like our house is in the summertime has a lot of honey, honey and honeybee themed things.
She likes the pun with her new last name.
So that's happened.
Yeah.
I think it's a pretty cool last name.
I don't.
Oh, yeah.
I like it.
It's definitely didn't grow up knowing too many.
I mean, none.
Like, I just, it's not like, you know, you don't, you were never confused.
If someone said, hey, Honeycutt, like, there wasn't three people.
Well, the three people that turned around were me and my two brothers.
It wasn't fucking anybody else, you know what I mean?
It wasn't your kin.
Nobody else knew you.
I was talking about ancestry.
And I traced it back to the guy that came over from England.
He spelled his H-U-N-N-I.
I've seen some weird fucking spelling.
So that's, I don't know, I don't know when they changed it.
am, huh?
According to answer, I don't know.
That's what I traced back.
I felt like newspaper articles.
It looked like the same people.
His name was like Esau Honeycup.
It's H-U-N-I-C-E.
I've seen a few different spellings, like, you know, on the internet, if you will, you know,
the place I've been for a while.
All right, Big Wesley.
What do you do for a living, buddy?
As little as much as you want to talk about it.
On a refrigeration technician for a supermarket.
So I pretty much work on all the coolers and the steward.
that's in like your grocery stores, stuff like that.
Sorry.
Are you like the Bob Vance of Kentucky?
I'm also just keep stuff cold out.
Bob,
oh yeah, I got a desk guy from the office.
Yeah, I didn't mind.
I got you.
I was thinking of someone else for whatever reason.
I don't know a lie.
But yeah, I'm the Bob Vance of Food City.
You're the Bob Vance of Food City, right?
I guess I want to learn more about that
because I have a couple extra questions around
there. So did, well, first of all, I'm assuming you had to go for like at least technical school for
that or is it like on the job type training? Yeah, I went to like technical school for like residential
HGAC and then kind of learned once I finally got on doing that, I kind of picked that up.
It works the same. It's just a lot bigger, a lot more sort of like industrial size version of it.
You know, I had to kind of learn some stuff. But the basics are still the same. So I went to
school for pretty much basic residential HAC and stuff.
Got it.
Have you ever, have you ever, what would you say it was, Food City?
Mm-hmm.
Food, first of all, I've never heard of Food City.
They're a regional.
They're like in eastern Kentucky, Western, Virginia, Tennessee, East Tennessee and like now
in Georgia.
Okay, it's pretty small.
Okay, yeah, we have a couple of those too, but yeah.
My brain first went to, like, I guess I didn't understand what the job truly was.
So I was like, well, maybe he does HVock or maybe he just does freezers and coolers and stuff?
And then my brain started going, well, have you ever been to a job where they weren't able to get the stuff out of the fridge and you aren't able to fix it in time and like a bunch of stuff spoiled?
Or they wait and not call anybody about the middle of the night or something.
Or like the night crew doesn't call and say it's running warm and then they'll lose $10,000 worth of stuff.
Does it smell?
Yeah, that's not my job to get rid of that.
Yeah, I was going to say, that's not your problem.
It does.
You're a big picture guy.
I'll be on the roof.
You guys take care of that.
Yeah, yeah.
I'll get it back cold.
You guys throw away the rest of it.
You got a good bit on-call with that then?
You're on-call rotation?
Yeah.
One week every three weeks.
It used to be every four weeks, but we've lost some people and stuff has changed.
And so.
That's not horrible.
Have you get called in quite often or no?
Some weeks you don't get called any, some weeks,
by the time Monday rolls around, you have 40 hours already
and you end up with 80 or 90.
It's kind of, the summertime's a lot worse in the winter.
Yeah, sure.
Or unless it gets like super cold,
then like stuff quits working or when it gets super hot,
stuff tires up more, you know?
So in the spring and fall, it's more slow.
It's not so bad.
So do you have your little region?
I know you just said that's a pretty big region that,
the city's in, but do you have a smaller region within your region that you're working in?
The company's broken up into like four or five divisions. There's like three techs in our area,
but we still go like two and a half, three hours like away sometimes. But it's not like my,
I have like six stores that are within like an hour of my house. Oh, so not so bad. And I have
to, I have a little bit higher job. I'll have to help some of the other guys too that have a little
bit further away. So I'll go traveling two hours one way is not really a big deal. It's sort of
the common occur, two, two and a half hours sometimes.
Yeah, that makes sense.
Yeah.
Well, I know you'll have to do a lot of driving.
I'm assuming that you see some hills and some haulers when you're driving.
So is that way they call you Mount Westmore?
Who called me that one?
It's, yeah, we don't really, it's too much effort to figure out who submitted stuff without breaking it all back down.
Yeah, that sounds like something.
said to me before.
Is that similar to West,
Westford?
Or Westford?
That sounds like Zach.
Oh,
Zach,
okay.
Zach from that.
I think Mount Westmore,
I think that was a,
I think that was a Snoop Dog album.
I'm pretty sure.
Like one of their like groups they got together.
I think that's what that comes from.
When I see you,
I think a Snoop Dog,
that makes sense.
I think,
I think they had a group called Mount
Westmore for a while. I think that's where he gets westward. Mount Westmore. Oh my goodness. Yeah.
I think it was Hunter though that is Thunder Cat 1 number one right?
Yeah. Thunder Cat number two. Yeah. We were at a strong man show and this older, his only one we
ever done. Me and him signed up for the novice. There was this older guy that should have been the
masters. He thought he was going to sign up for the novice and just beat everybody. And he ended up
getting like last place.
And he was like, me and Hunter were like neck and neck.
We were like way ahead of everyone else.
And he said, he said, I would have stayed in the Masters if I knew you two
Thundercaps were signing up.
That's what you got.
That's what your cats come from.
Nice.
Well, so you did some strong, man.
Let's take us through that whole lifting journey of yours.
When you start and all that?
I started lifting in like 2016 just right after high school.
One of my buddies was like, let's go with gym in the morning.
And he lasted like a week.
and I never stopped.
So it started out just doing like what everybody else does
when they first go to gym,
just maxing out on the bench and just grow workouts I found on YouTube.
It finally evolved into powerlifting and stuff like
more strength training than anything.
I started out like at the local rec center.
Then I moved to a more powerlifting gym round.
And when we bought the house and moved to like the other side of the county,
it was like a 20-minute drive to the gym
every day and I was like, I don't want to have to do something else.
So it ended up.
Did you start with like a program or something?
Like an online template or what did you start with?
Most of them, a lot of it was more like bodybuilding sort of split.
Yeah.
Or just like Callum von Mogher and Bradley Martin were all big back then like the late
2018.
So it's just whatever I saw on their YouTube video that week.
I just went and tried to replicate what they did.
Then I'm sure I picked up a few templates and stuff here and there of like people's
strength when I got into wanting to be stronger and stuff, you know, I picked up a few.
A lot of it was also maxing it out every week like everyone else does, probably when they first,
every teenager does when they first start, you know.
You get hurt enough times.
You're like, maybe I should find a program or something that do this.
Do you follow a program now?
I have been doing 531 for quite a while, but I recently started juggernaut AI again.
I'm kind of debating on whether I'm going to stay with that or go back to something else.
I'm not sure just yet.
What's the competitive goals?
Is that something you really strive to do?
Do you get enjoyment out of powerlifting doing strong men?
Or is that a means to an end?
I like doing like a local competition comes up.
I like doing those.
I don't really have a lot of aspirations to go and do anything more than.
I just like lifting and stuff, you know.
But we've done a grip competition last year.
There's another redoing that again this year,
the Kentucky strongest hands.
I think I'm going to sign up.
going to sign up for that again.
Well, you got to, you got to defend your title, you know, that's, uh, had several people,
you know, asked to bring that up that the, uh, Kentucky strongest hands for the, what, what way
class was it?
A hundred KG.
Oh, you go, buddy.
You got to, yeah.
And that was like, so was that, that was a virtual thing and then you, or was that an
in person?
No, we went to, no, we went to Louisville.
They had it in the same room as like the Kentucky strongest man, strongman show.
It was on one side and they had the drip on the other.
I got you.
Oh, okay.
So, for some reason, I was getting that in the day that you, like, just hung out and,
lifted at Brandon's.
So you did an actual
Louisville grip competition.
And that's the day
Kurt came and
are you mad from Colorado?
Yeah, Kurt was there.
Yeah, he blew.
I don't know if he's coming back for this one or not.
We were actually talking yesterday and he was like,
I don't think they're going to have it again this year.
Then today they announced that they were going to have it.
Oh, shoot.
Shows what you know, Big Kurt.
He messaged me this morning.
He said, I was a fool.
is that something that you, it sounds like you're just good at anything, no matter what, what you do.
So is that something that you actually practiced? Do you have implements in your gym? Or did you just go and wing it and just did good anyway?
Hunter and Brandon and all of them, like we said, they were going to do it. And I was like, well, I guess I'll go to.
And it was, that was like, it was in December. I think that was like in October or something.
And I was like, well, I actually built a lot of the implements and trained for like a couple months.
I guess I was just naturally sort of decent at it.
You mentioned that a couple of times that you build a couple things for the gym.
So I guess tell us more about that.
And what do you like building?
What do you have access to?
What are some of the favorite things that you built?
Mostly like if I can build something out of wood,
like mostly like a grip attachment or something, that's what I do.
Like one of the things was a Saxon bar for that, like the flat pinched.
And I was like, I'm not giving $200 for a lot.
actually I made like a cable.
I laminated some boards together and made like a cable in attachment and covered it in like bed liner and stuff.
That worked pretty good.
And the roga,
grandfather clock handle,
which is like the kind of called the end of a barbell sort of.
I had a,
I had a lathe,
so I just turned one of those out of wood and the right diameter works the same as the $50 metal metal rogue one.
I built for whatever piece of I had in the eye bolt to thread in the end of it, you know.
Sweet.
Do you wing it?
Do you, or do you try to find a.
a basic plan or do you just think you know what i kind of know the the diameter i'm going to make
it i'm pretty meticulous enough so if i like google the bunch and got like that yeah diameter
and took a caliper and got it as close as i possibly could you know so i got a well speak you're speaking
of google like so many people just uh will use AI for stuff now that made me think do your parents
have a concept of what AI is i think they had no idea i couldn't imagine them understanding
what Gemini or ChatGPT is?
I think they're like a lot of open.
They think like the internet already was sort of that.
You know what I mean?
They think Google is sort of just chat like something populating.
It's not like a search engine.
You know, they think it's like something's just answering their questions for them,
you know.
So I don't think they'd think much different.
Really.
So you've built a bunch of stuff for the gym.
So I want to hear more about the actual.
So you moved.
you know, the gym was too far away from the, you know, if the house.
Yeah.
Building the home gym itself.
Like, tell me that journey.
What you start with?
What have you upgraded?
What do you kind of focus on in the gym?
Well, mine actually is a seller.
Yours is like stolen.
Oh, yeah.
Mine actually isn't a seller.
I can, I control how long this episode goes.
I think of well, you know, well, we better brand for landing.
No, no, no.
That's that's stolen seller valor.
What do you like, do you do you, do you are like six or seven feet then,
or is it a full basement?
It's like a 10 by 10.
Only like the back half of it.
It's like built into the hillside.
It's sort of built.
I guess it was an old,
like an old root cellar they'd have.
Oh, so it's not like the,
it's not your basement.
It's like seller.
No.
It's legitimate.
A standalone like wine seller slash root seller.
It's detached from the house.
Yeah.
It's built into the hillside.
Do you shovel to get out there in the winter or do you?
It's up a garage.
My house is like right.
It's covered like.
the, when you come out of my back door, those are covered walkway to like the carport.
This is just beside it.
Like it's covered out here to get to it.
But it's building into the mountain side, though.
Nice.
Oh, that's cool.
So it's like a tornado shelter, essentially.
Well, there's another, my woodworking shops above it.
So I don't know if I want to be in here for when the roof.
If it come in, I feel like, oh, it's great.
I guess I'm, you know, you didn't get a hat, but now you're wearing a lathe on your head.
Yeah, a lathe and you got that going for.
Yeah, yeah.
that's just what I went on my head.
Yeah, yeah.
But we got a really big flood in like 2021.
Like it was like a record flood that had ever happened here.
And like we couldn't, the gym got like, we always going to at the time got like six feet of water inside of it.
So like the only and they were using the rec center, which is the other gym like as a shelter for people that got.
Yeah.
The house was washed.
There was no gyms for like two or three months.
I was like, well, I got to figure something out to do.
and this doesn't happen again in the future.
So I thought about this old seller out here
and I was like, because it was just old rotten shells
and stuff.
The original part of our house is really old, like 1930s.
It's been built on to and remodeled.
So I'm sure this was here then probably.
So it was like just an empty build.
We piled junk and stuff in it, you know,
I can clean that up and probably make a nice gym out of it.
And that's what I bought a squat rack off the gym
that we went to.
It still has some flood mud and stuff.
I don't.
Sometimes you get a little dust ring around it, you know.
Blood blood.
I like that.
That might be the episode title.
There you go.
I bought that off him and put it in here.
And it just sort of built.
I bought that a bench and like a barbell.
Then some cheap, like enough plates to bench like 225 or 275.
And I was still going back and course to the gym.
Like if I got home weight from work, I'd come out here.
Then it just got to where it was more.
I had the same quality equipment.
here. I'll just cancel my gym membership and start adding on to.
That's what helped you afford the Massonomics podcast. Oh, yeah. I could afford it all
long. I'm just tired. If you don't know, I'm probably building everything. I get it. I get it.
No, that makes sense. Just frugal. I'm like envisioning the, you know, like on Harry,
no, not Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, like the Little Hobbit houses where it has like the,
that's where he goes and lips.
Yeah.
it's warmer in here in the winter and cooler in the sun.
I put a mini split in here because the humidity was crazy
where it was like,
stay kind of damp in here all the time.
It would get unbearable.
It would be so hot,
so it would be like 90% humidity.
Jesus.
Sticky,
but it should be so rusted too.
I keep a dehumidifier running in here,
then plus the air condition,
so it stays pretty temporary.
It's really bright, though.
Yeah, I've got the wall that's painted light,
and I've got some pretty bright,
in here on the ceiling.
I think that's a, that's one of, I mean,
we've heard people that live in in little lean twos and chicken cubes and
stuff, so I think this is actually pretty cool.
Like, you have one of the most unique ones.
The real honeycutt sailor.
Mm-hmm.
All right.
Yeah, you just want to, you like, you like hitting me with that.
So I hear you're a pretty good shot with the bow and arrow.
You do a little archery, do you?
Yeah.
I don't get to compete as much as I used to, but,
I do a lot of bow hunting.
I used to do a lot of more like trick shots of trying to make Instagram videos.
I'm not done that kind of shooting in a while, but mostly now it's just like for hunting and stuff.
Sometimes it's like the spring when I get time.
I'll shoot like some competitions or like the first of winner when they're like indoor competitions and stuff.
But usually when the work, go ahead.
I was going to say, how does that work?
I guess I'm curious, like, is it like powerlifting where you follow certain accounts and you're like, oh, shoot, they're going to have a, they're going to have a, they're going to have a,
tournament this weekend and I'm going to sign up for that.
There's some local clubs over in like Virginia.
They like have like scheduled.
In the springtime,
it's more like the 3D foam animals.
Like you kind of walk for the wood.
Oh,
yeah,
yeah.
And in the winter time,
it's more like a 20 yard sort of paper target,
more like an Olympic.
Like it's something you've more seen more like the Olympic style type.
Can you win anything good?
Not at those local shoots.
You win a little money every once in.
I mean,
there's like pro tournaments and stuff like that.
Well, they win.
Those guys make a live and doing it and stuff.
So, you know, I'm not, I'm not that good.
What are some of your most proud just, like, fucking around with your buddies,
trick shots you've hit?
Yeah.
If you go back long enough on my Instagram, I used to be able to, like, light a candle
and, like, shoot it with, like, a repair and I blow the candle out and stuff.
From how far away did you get that up to?
Oh, like 20 yards, maybe, not very.
It's still pretty damn cool.
Not very far.
Would you do that at night?
So, like, actually looked really badass, or it had to be kind of, like, fairly
more in the evening, you know,
late in the evening,
they still looks good enough you can see it on the video.
Yeah,
that actually pretty cool.
I actually built a bow a few years ago
when I've done that with it,
but I've not shot that in a while.
That's actually on my,
probably the last archery video
on my Instagram is probably me shooting that
candle with that boat with the recurve I made.
I mean,
I actually scroll back.
Just kind of lost the itch or just,
you know, between work picking up,
getting married and the gym and everything.
It's just, I've got too many hobbies.
to like between lifting and working, especially during the summer, by my hours are kind of long,
so I got to kind of pick what hobby I want to try to.
One of them always seems to get sort of pushed to the backbone.
Recently, it's been the competitive archery.
It's usually on like a Saturday morning than if you worked 60 or 70 hours that week,
it's hard to want to get up at 8 o'clock and go spend half your day and then come home
and get caught up on all the chores you didn't get to do during the week.
So it kind of gets pushed to the...
Have you many good people?
Like, obviously we're used to Massimomics and meeting good lifting buddies.
Have you made any good archie buddies?
Oh, yeah, I've got a lot of good archery buddies.
I've got like my lifting buddies with something, Massonomics people, and I've got separate
archery buddies.
All my hobbies, I have separate little groups of...
Yeah.
They don't overlap.
Is there no Venn diagram where you have like the ones that are actually right in the middle?
Maybe a few here and there.
They overlap a little bit.
But, oh, sorry.
So you were buddies with Hunter and them before Massonomics, it sounds like?
Me and Hunter were a graduate high school together.
Zach's a few years younger than us, but we live in a small town.
So he worked at the rec center and lived at the rec center.
Like, that's how I got to know Zach.
And then him and the Hunter were, but we're closer buddies than we were.
I've known Hunter forever, like during high school.
like close friends. We were all friendly with each other.
We just kind of ran in different groups back then.
And then Hunter and Zach worked together at the police there for a long time.
And we just kind of, we all kind of come back together.
We all kind of kept in touch. We weren't like best friends.
You know, we always treated each other. Then we all sort of like came together
and started working out together and stuff more. And then I'll just kind of went from
there. Yeah, because I think the most of the time I've met the two or three times I've ran into
you. It's always a fucking, there's always a
traffic of the three of you walking fucking hand in
hand, essentially going down, going
down, up and down the, uh, the
Arnold and the home gym con aisles.
Yeah, if we go somewhere like that, we all just,
all three of us just go together, you know, so.
It'll make sense for just cost effective,
for sure. Our, our wives really aren't.
I was actually not married, but man, me and Hunter's lives
really aren't. They don't go with us if we
ask them to, you know, but they're not really,
they don't really know what's going on. Lindsay more
so than my life. Yeah. We met
Mitchell Hooper at the Arnold, and he was like,
He asked my life, he thought, do you want a picture, too?
And she was like, I don't know who you are.
No, that is funny because, like, both your guys' wives were at the Arnold,
and it was just the three guys with no wives at home gymcon.
So that was kind of a funny observation.
That's a lot.
She was like, no.
She's like, I'm pregnant.
I'm not going to walk around all day.
Well, yeah, that's fair.
She would have.
She probably wouldn't have went.
I kind of brought up to go to the Arnold because we were staying all night.
We went to, like, the zoo and stuff.
like that too while we were up there.
So I kind of bribed her to go with me that way.
I think it made it worth it.
Not the Aberdeen Zoo, but just a zoo with other animals.
Yeah, yeah.
The Columbus Zoo.
All right.
So you talked about if you would want to be in your gym if there was a tornado
because you have a woodworking shop above you.
So I actually was going to ask you if you had a woodworking shop to say that.
You already told us about that.
So I'm curious, though, what's it look like?
in there and have you spent more money in your woodworking shop or spent more money in your gym?
Probably the gym. The woodworking shop's the same size of this. It's just like the upstairs
to this part of it. And it's still pretty like, I've not done anything to the walls or anything.
It's still like bare wood. I spent some money on tools and stuff like that, but probably not,
not what I've spent on the gym, I don't think. They might be close. I don't know.
I saw a lot of the things that you made and we also got some submissions saying that you made a
rocking horse, which I didn't see, which I'm assuming you just got praise for that. And I did see, though,
the one that caught my eye was your knife collecting box because my son, you know, obviously he just
moved out and he collects knives. And I'm like, oh, my, every turn, every time we pulled another
drawer of like another damn knife. And so, yeah, that box caught my interest. So that's the way my mom was.
I had pocket knives laying everywhere. My life's like, you're going to have to do something with all these
thing. He's like, you should build a box and put it in me.
And I was like, that's a good idea.
And it looks really, it looks really nice.
So I guess how did you get into woodworking?
And do you, are you in your shop like a couple times a week?
Or what do you, do you just go out there for fun?
It's one of those hobbies.
It also varies depending on what time.
It's one of the hobbies that cycles through.
I like to build stuff like, like, decorative stuff like that.
Like I really only go with like when I have like the urge, like, I don't think of it as
all right.
like you know like somebody's want to paint something or something like they get the idea to paint like
I just kind of go and I get like the idea I want to build like I'll see something in my head like I want to try to build that or I'll see something online I'm like I want to try to make my version of that I'll go and like spend a week and hyper fixate on doing it then I won't do it again for a month or two and then I'll get back I just kind of do it when I get the urge to
I feel like that would be a good a good gift giving thing like you have a talent and you that's usually what I do yeah I haven't ever sell anything
Most of time I'll build something really elaborate and probably would be really expensive if you sold it.
I'll just give it to somebody.
I tried selling stuff and that just turned into like a job more so.
Yeah, it's no fun anymore.
I was like, it wasn't fun when I had to go do it to make somebody a cutting board or something they wanted.
It was like, I have to go do this this evening after work.
It just wasn't fun anymore.
And I was like, I'm not trying to do that anymore.
That does suck.
It just stinks that, I mean, just like the guy.
in Masonomics, I'm sure that they have things that they hate, right?
But they, probably the good things are probably outweighing the bad.
And I'm sure that would be the same if you got into a job.
Like, we only did woodworking and stuff, but I can totally get that.
Like, I'd rather go to a junkie job, complain about it and come home and do my woodworking
to like, you know, de-stress and do whatever.
I tend to get too hyper-fixated on kind of make everything like perfect.
It takes like plight as long as it.
it probably should to do it, then it just seems it's not a very, I'd have to charge so much money
to make it worth my, if I was charging for it, I'd have to charge so much to make it worth my time.
I just like, I'll get the enjoyment out of building it and it's just, just give it to.
Well, now you know, so all those companies you judge at home, JimCon that was selling
stuff for what you said was so fucking expensive.
Oh, I know.
They're the same as you, dumbass.
Like, they put the same amount of time and money into it and effort, and they need to get compensated.
So to keep that in mind next time you're judging someone's cost.
I understand why.
I just wasn't going to pay for it.
I feel you.
I feel you.
That's why I don't try to sell.
I know some people are going to look at that and go, I'm not paying that for that piece of it.
Did you end up making any of those bench covers you were asking me about from that?
I made a, you might have been inspired of and inspired by at home gym con.
I made one for Hunter.
I'm going to make one for myself.
I actually bought one off the guy.
I've got a message him back about.
He put out of the day was like, message me if you, if you bought one.
I got a question about that.
I've got a couple more blanks up there.
I just like messing with me.
stuff like that. I'll see something like I can build that. I want to see if I can do that.
No, would you burn it? Did you actually burn a logo in it or something? So we're talking about
I had a laser engraver. Yeah, explain it to me like I'm five. What's a bench cover? It's just like a
decorative like head cover you'd wrap, put around your bench. It's like with your gym logo and stuff in it.
Got it. There's a guy at the home gym con making them there. He had a laser engraver.
I thought, I have a laser engraver and I like to make stuff. I was like, wonder how he made that.
I went home and spent an hour on a deep dive on the internet and figured out what he was
using for it, you know.
It's like a hat for your,
your badge.
It was just like a,
he was,
he was stapling his on there.
I put like some snap clips
in the back of mine to wrap around and snap it.
Oh,
nice.
But yeah,
but it's basically just a piece of leather with like a different color on
the inside.
And the laser engraver is basically burning the top layer.
That's how you get like the,
that's why it's not black.
Like some of them are silver and gold like ratin on top of like a leather.
You're just burning the top layer of leather off
and they're feeling the whatever color.
on the inside of it. Yeah.
That's cool.
Yeah. Yeah, I'm a leisure there. I like to
tinker with stuff like that.
How the heck do you acquire these things?
You find them on marketplace or
I watch a bunch of YouTube.
Some of that kind of goes along with woodwork
and like they'll build something like make a custom
like logo or put somebody's initials on something.
I was like, I'll do that.
I'll like get really into a hobby and spend
a bunch of money on it and then
never make any money back off of it.
And I'll just have all this stuff.
I don't get halfway into anything.
If I get a hobby, I'll go deep down into it for like six months and have professional
grade equipment to do it with us and then just not do it for a while.
I want to hear.
Sorry, I was going to say, I think one of the ways you could save money is it says here you like
to hunt and hunting fish.
So I feel like, you know, you're hunting, you're fishing.
and you're getting a lot of your meat that way.
So is that helping you save money for all your hobbies.
Oh, yeah.
I actually didn't kill a deer last year, but usually I killed too.
We, in my life, we beat that throughout the year, like, in place of beef.
Sometimes we'll still buy it sometimes, but my wife likes it, too.
So we'll have, like, I grind a lot of it.
I eat a lot of, like, for my meal prep, I usually have, like, ground beef and rice.
And usually during that time of year, I have ground venison and rice until it runs out, you know.
Heck, yeah.
So I actually asked your wife about that because that's set some of my fun memories is when my,
my brothers and my brother and my dad would go out hunting and then they'd process the meat.
And then they would fry up the loin while they're processing.
And they put a little flour on it.
Oh my gosh.
It was so good.
So I can taste it just like thinking about it right now.
But that's awesome that she actually helps you.
She'll help once it's cut up like it's just meat.
in the house. Once it's still a deer outside, she doesn't want any part of that part of it.
Once it's cut off the bone and brought it and it's just meat, she's okay with that part.
She doesn't want any part of it when it's still a fur on it.
So are you, are you, since you like archery, are you actually bow hunting?
Are you, okay, so you don't, do you don't do any, like, shotgun or anything like that?
Raffle hunting is more so right here.
Not a lot of people shotgun hunts.
We have enough mountains that people don't really,
those are the shotgun hunts, usually in states that are flat,
so the bullet doesn't travel.
So like mine.
Yeah, people have like high-powered raffles here.
I've killed a lot of deer with those.
But in the last like five or six years,
I mostly just,
but I get more enjoyment out of bow hunting than I do.
Yeah.
I hunt right behind my house now,
so I don't want to send a rifle around down the holler.
You know, you never know where I don't hunt far enough away.
from homes to want to do that.
Makes sense.
There are some good fishing down there?
There's got to be some pretty good scenery,
little creeks and rivers to camp out on.
I don't get to fish as much as I,
like I said, during the summer, that's my busiest time of the year.
We do a lot of fishing in like the rivers and creeks and stuff.
There's a few lakes around.
We'll go, I don't get to do that as much as I'd like to anymore.
But we used to, we like to get in like the river and like laid to the river
and fish and stuff like that.
That's pretty fun.
Like I said, I'm going to do that once or twice a summer maybe.
Do you actually wearing waiters?
You're just out there in swimming trunks?
Most time it's just, some people do waiters.
I usually to wait just warm enough that you can just wade through it and the water feels nice.
So some guys will do it and buy waders and stuff.
I never got that deep end.
I never want to do it when it was that cold out.
You guys must have different rivers than us, I guess, because there's only very specific area in Iowa where you can go and wade.
I mean, we could, but most of our rivers are just mud.
But I'm calling a river, you'd probably call like a creek or stuff.
Like they're like, you could draw rock across it.
It's not a very, it's not a big major river.
You know, it's just like a stream that sort of comes out.
Yeah, I think up in like north and more northern Iowa, we have some areas where they
could probably get out and wait and do even fly fishing and stuff.
But most of ours are dirty.
You're not wading out in that.
Yeah, yeah.
So I see you're a big Red Rising book series fan.
and, you know, are you an audiobook guy or a bookbook guy?
Because it sounds like you're a little too busy to be reading too much.
So, you do it.
Sounds like you drive a whole hell of a lot.
So I'm hoping audiobooks is a way you consume a lot.
Actually, I'd like to read physical books.
I like to do it like at night when I come home and I try to like decompress a little bit for the day before bed.
I'll read.
So, I mean, I'm trying to like not look at my phone for a while and read the book.
I always do a lot of podcasts while I drive and stuff.
And then if I work or I'm not working, I'm taking phone calls and email.
and this and that and everything
or scrolling Instagram on lunch.
I like to come home before bed and try to like
slow my brain down for a minute
so I can go to bed.
I like a physical book.
Yeah.
What book are you on that?
Someone that's completed that series
where are you at in the journey for the Red Rising?
I'm like halfway through the third.
Nice.
And is that something that Tanner helped inspire
or you found it before he chatted about it all last year or so?
I probably picked it up.
from me i've not been reading like reading books but about about a year like my wife's big into
reading that i kind of picked it up from i used to i used to not enjoy it you know but i was i realized
i was just reading books i didn't well trying to read books i didn't like so yeah there's a lot
of books out there i don't like for sure well i just like in high school they were like to read
this book and i was like i'm i can't i have a hard time comprehended while i'm reading i just realized
i just didn't want to do it so i just didn't do it i just didn't do it
I just, I don't know that Tanner talking about that for weeks on end.
Definitely got dozens of us to actually read the series, I think.
That's probably where I got it from.
It's pretty cool.
I would say, I heard about it somewhere.
So it's probably, it was probably wrong.
Oh, yeah.
It makes sense.
I guess I might have to listen to it, huh?
How many books are there?
Six, I believe.
I can't think it.
I think there's one more coming maybe.
I'm not sure.
I think so.
Yeah, there's one that's not come out yet.
Yeah.
I don't know what number it is.
I think it'll be.
That should be book seven then, I believe.
I do.
I do exactly what you do.
but I have two books usually going at once, one in audio and then one to decompress, right,
like right before bed, no phones and stuff.
The worst for me is I've got to listen on my, I have my work phone and my personal phone,
and my work phones will sync to my, my work vehicle.
So I listen to that one, but then if I don't have, I don't like, as soon as I get home from work,
I like to not look at my work phone.
So then like, like, I have to either, I have to like keep, I have to try to remember where I was at in the book,
like, by like skipping forward, like,
hour or something or just run two separate books on different phones because it's too much of a
pan in the ass to I just I refuse to carry around my work phone fucking at home.
Have you ready of the terminal list books like the jet car?
I have not.
I heard you're a fan, but sell me on those with, without getting out of your chair,
sell me on a couple of those.
Well, they're in the house.
Well, it's a TV series with Chris Pratt.
So if you watch the TV series and you'll probably like the books.
Oh, yeah, yeah.
He already had brain cancer or a tumor.
Yeah, that's the first book.
Yeah.
It's like six books.
Now, was that the show, did you find those books before the show, or the show inspire you to read the books?
That guy, I listen to Joe Rogan sometimes, and the guy that wrote him was on there a lot.
So I'd heard him talking about him for years before I decided to actually like read them.
I think I actually watched the show before I read the book.
That's a good show to watch why I do a party or something.
There's a lot of action and stuff going on.
We watched the first season a few years ago when it came out.
I don't think I ever watched the.
There was the spinoff that just had the tail.
Yeah, it was just that one that I didn't consume.
But I think season two of the original is coming out real soon, I think.
I think October.
Yeah.
So, yeah, sometime this year, I'll add it to my good read.
Well, I'll try to someone listening to DM me to remind me to add that to my good reads list because I don't know.
I don't have time to do that.
If you like the action kind of books and stuff like that, they're like a lot of shooting and fighting.
and stuff like that, they're good.
That's up my alley.
And if you know about guns and stuff like that,
like all the stuff in it's fairly accurate,
if they go over like the gear he has,
like it's actual brand.
Like the guy who wrote it was an A-B-Sil,
so they kind of go into, like,
if you know about that stuff,
they kind of go into like what kind of gun he has
and what kind of watch he has on,
and I get into that kind of stuff too.
That's pretty cool.
So where do you get,
I'm sorry to take us down this road,
but where do you get your books?
Do you actually go to the library,
or are you a book buyer?
My wife likes to go to like Barnes and Noble and books a million.
While she's skimming around for books, I'll go and pick myself up.
She'll have a basket full and I'll have like whatever one I found.
As someone that already considered, you said that you were tight or stingy or however you referred to it,
you're paying Barnes and Noble prices.
That's like fucking like $20 books when, but you have to get what you want,
whereas like you go to the library sale and you get some 20-year-old book that you might not want to read it.
Yeah, yeah.
But books are.
I'll spend money on stuff I like, but I'm just, some stuff I'll be like, I could do that.
Stuff I can get myself or figure out myself.
I'm like, I can just do that.
Do you keep all the books you guys read or you got a big ad?
Because at one point, every book I ever read, I had a physical copy of and then it just
got to where like, all right, I've got 100 books.
And I'm switching over to, you know, digital or audio.
So I, you know, sold all those off when we moved 15 years ago.
That's part of building stuff.
I don't have a whole lot of books, but I've built some little bookshelves to keep my books on.
My wife has, she reads, she reads like on her Kindle, but she likes to buy the book because she likes the artwork and stuff on her.
I've got her a huge bookshelf in our bedroom.
It's like those like almost floor to ceiling of lights and it stuff.
She's got it loaded down with it's over full.
She's got books sitting on top of it and stuff now.
It's like you're making a second one soon for making a bit of it.
Yeah.
To take it apart and make it wider.
Yeah, I want to do something if she keeps buying them.
So I want to know about your, we got a couple of submissions about energy drinks.
And I recently just started, I was always scared to have an energy drink.
I thought it was going to make my heart explode.
And I'm now in my 40s and had my first energy drink.
So do you like energy drinks?
Oh, yeah.
And which ones are your go-to?
I've got, I break my life in the categories.
I got some I like at breakfast, some I like at lunch, some like free workout, some free workout.
A fruit punch rock star, though, the sugar-free.
That's probably my favorite.
That's my go-to, like at lunchtime.
When I worked out in the grocery store, like in the meat department years ago,
that's all those guys back that I drank.
And I got kind of hooked on them then.
And I've just kept, they actually quit selling them at like our local, like Pepsi.
They quit stopping them at all of our stores.
I've started ordering them on Amazon to have them in stock and stuff.
Do you get an employee discount at the grocery store?
They don't know.
We don't get that.
Oh, those motherfuckers.
They'd probably charge us more if they could figure out a way to...
Well, you were, you literally, like, you're made...
How are you not working for the grocery store?
That's...
Unless, are you, like, more of a subcontractor than you are?
I'm an employee, but like, that grocery chain, you got...
I'm an employee just like the cashiers are an employee.
Like, I still work for the company.
But they don't...
If I gave me a discount, they would have to give their other thousands of employees probably...
Oh, they...
I thought everybody...
I guess I would have imagined that.
So you're saying the cashiers don't get a fucking discount?
Nobody gets a good stuff.
Sometimes they'll give us like special stuff.
Like they're like,
y'all,
you can get this for half off today or something,
but it's not like across the board.
It's usually like stuff they have a bunch of
trying to get rid of.
They're like,
if you guys can buy this half off if you want it.
You think even a 1% discount
would be enough of it to make you work harder or something.
They're probably giving you half off shed on the coolers
that you have to fix.
Yeah.
So they want to get rid of really quick.
Yeah.
Well, okay, so you have your categories.
How much caffeine are you drinking a day?
Don't be scared.
Like three a day usually.
Seven days a week or just during work days?
Fuck me.
Usually like very like, sometimes two.
If it's two a day, usually like if you count coffee in the morning,
sometimes I don't have one of the last.
Sometimes I'll drink coffee in the morning.
Okay.
I'll have one at lunch.
Then if I work out that evening, I'll either have an energy drink or like pre-workout
or something.
Like 600 milligrams a day maybe.
Yeah, so the answer was too much.
For me, that's way too much.
I've been to that for years.
I'm not died yet, so.
Fair enough.
You were not even 30 yet, so.
No.
It'll probably hit me here.
It'll catch you up to me eventually.
Yeah, yeah.
You're going to be like, oh, man, I'm not as good as I once was.
That's coming up.
Have you ever had a ghost before?
Yeah, I've probably had every one of them that thing.
Oh, are you fan or no?
Is right a lot to go to.
I like most of them.
I like all the ghosts.
a, if I'm going to work out or something,
a lot of times I'll have a goes.
Thank you.
That's usually one of, those of the C4 are usually my go-to around.
All right.
I haven't had a C-4 yet.
I got to add that to my list, too.
They have beta,
they have beta aline in them.
So, like a pre-workout one.
So, but not much, but if you're not used to it,
you'll get a little bit like tingling.
The tinkles.
It'd be such a shitty surprise.
If you don't realize it's in there and you drink that while you're
driving to work or something,
I'd be like, oh, I guess my fucking day's ruined.
We had an apprentice at work,
but he wasn't bigger
on any dreams.
He's like,
I got him to try one.
He didn't know.
I didn't think about,
no,
I've drunk some of me down
like it doesn't really affect me anymore.
And he called me.
He's like,
what's in this stuff.
He's like,
I feel all.
He's like,
I'm itchy.
I don't know what to do.
Like he's like,
he's like a two hour drive home.
He was like,
he's like,
I don't know what to do.
He's like, I don't even think about it.
You know,
I don't even think about it.
He's like,
he's good.
I was like,
yeah,
I'm good.
I didn't think about the beta-alidine killing him.
Speaking to other, you know, foreign,
or like, you know, high levels of this and high levels of that,
I want to hear about this high level of zinc you have
and what the hell that's about.
And if that caused any side effects in life.
Yeah, that costs some side effects in life for sure.
Well, let's hear that.
Yeah, what does that even mean?
I don't know if I want to get too deep.
No, no, that's fine.
No, no, we're good.
Gotcha. Moving on.
Causing problems at home.
No, you're good, buddy.
You're good.
Now,
adjacent to that,
do you have a little issue with needles
and getting your blood drawn?
Very much so.
Well, if you're coming with that,
let's hear that.
We'll talk about that.
Yeah, right, yeah.
Let's make that one the go-to.
I do not like getting blood drawn.
I don't know.
It's not the blood, it's the needle.
I just don't like,
the thoughts of a needle
kind of makes me sick at my stomach.
like even seeing people do it on TV.
Like it makes my stomach kind of turn.
It's in the needle.
Is it seeing it or is it feeling it?
Because it does hurt.
I mean,
it doesn't feel good.
But seeing it,
it doesn't help.
Feeling it mostly as well.
I can watch people do it and be fine.
Like it just kind of makes,
it kind of makes me like kind of cringe a little bit.
Like I'm fine.
But like when feeling it,
like it makes me,
especially like,
if I'm like in good health and not sick or something,
I won't pass out.
But I'll just be kind of like nauseous.
But like if I'm any bit of,
sick and they give me an IV or take blood, I'm probably going to pass out.
That's what Haley said. She said she was your savior last time. It had to catch your head.
I woke up and she was patting me on the cheek. She's going to wake up.
That blows my mind that someone that does all the things that you do. You can hunt turkey,
hunt deer, gut them, cut them, all the things. And you can't get a little poke in your arm.
It's not the blood. It's the needle. It's just the thoughts of that needle going in. I don't know. I've
always been like that.
I don't like shots.
Like somebody gives me a vaccine.
Like I can handle that.
I don't like it.
But the thought of like been taking the needle taking blood out of my body or like the eye.
I don't know what it is.
It just turns it turns my stomach.
But when she's talking about, I had the flu.
I come back from the beach with the flu.
And like I don't ever go.
But I have to be like afraid I'm going to die if I go to the doctor.
And like I was up all night.
Like I'd walk myself up like shaking.
Like I shook myself away.
My fever was so high.
And she took me to the doctor that morning.
and they were sort of like dismissive
like I had the man flu or something like they were like
oh yeah I told them I was like
I would have been up all night throwing up
had a fever I was like I'm going to pass out
and you guys do this just far along and I
told them they put me in the room with like the recliner
for like the community compromised people
and I think the lady was they was like first saying
and they just opened the lady was like why do you need to be
in here the balls I was like they told me to come in here
I don't know I don't care at this point I don't care what you
do to me at this point like make you feel better
I think they were sort of dismissal
I was like, I'm going to pass out, but they took blood and gave me an IV at the same time, one in each arm.
Oh, damn.
And they kept talking about, they kept breakfast was like, they want like a, they're going to drain you dry all the blood they want out of you for this.
And I was like, it would get worse every time.
And the lady that was giving an IV was like, you're going to just be prepared, you're going to feel this big needle going to your arm.
And by that point, I was like, I think I'm afraid of needles after this story.
I got, the cold sweat had broke out at that point.
I was like, I thought I was like, I've got to pass out.
and I grabbed the alcohol swab
and was like trying to put it into my nose like ammonia
I was like that's not going to do anything for me
I drink 600 milligrams to caffeine
you didn't do shit no that's
I've sniffed up ammonia deadlifted
and like an alcohol alcohol swab
is not more to do anything
doing the laying down method
uh Stephanie also has
not does not respond well to get her
blood drawn and she's passed out several times
over the years doing that so
she just knows now to be like put me in the
lay me down like give me the
fucking give me the couch, the recliner, whatever,
give me the table.
Don't, I'm not sitting here because I'm going to fucking fall to the chair.
If it happens and I'm like,
if they're just doing blood for like a blood test and I'm okay,
I can just not look at it.
If they don't talk,
I'll tell them like,
just don't talk to me about it.
Just do it.
And I'm going to look at my phone.
I'll be okay.
It'll kind of make my stomach turn a little bit and I feel it and I'm fine.
But if I'm any bit sick and they're talking about it as they're doing it
and described what they're doing,
I'm going to pass out every,
every time. And I can see blood and stuff. Like, I can cut, like, I'll get cut and see blood.
It doesn't affect me. But like, when there's a needle involved in the blood,
something inside my body just shut off. I don't know.
What a, have, were you like stung by bees a lot as a kid or something? I'm trying to like,
like, like, like, getting stung by because I only, I said, I damn near, I almost got stung
at work there. There's a shit ton of bees where I was working. So I can imagine that feeling
might be about similar. So if that's something that you've, as long as I can remember,
I've hated like getting shots and like the vaccines and stuff.
like that. Like when I was a kid, I would like freak out when they would have to give me.
It wouldn't like make me pass out, like getting like a flu shot or something.
I was a kid. It wasn't made me pass out. I would like, I remember, I really remember crying
a lot of times in the doctor's office. I just never liked needles.
I think the first time I passed out, it was, actually it wasn't drawn blood. They had to do
like a hemoglobin test or something. And they were like, we can do it out of your finger or
your arm. I was like, well, they just need a little bit out of my finger. That's fine. They needed like
a half a vowel.
They kept like milking my finger and like rapids.
That sounds so much worse than the arm.
That sounds horrible.
That was the first time I passed that.
Like I was like, I didn't know what it was.
I was like, if I just need that little amount, I'll just do with fingerproof.
That sounds fucking horrible.
That was the first time.
I only passed out like a time or two, but I've also only been to the doctor in recent
history a time or two as well.
Well, on a more, on them.
Oh, I was going to say, speaking of passing out, you, you're, you told me that your dad
got arrested for making moonshine. Tell us about that story. Yeah, that was long before I was born.
Like he died and I was, like I said, he was, he was in his mid-sixthes when I was born.
So he died when I was nine, so he was in his 70s. I'm just hearing these stories like from my mom or stuff like that.
Your mom went from having a much older husband to a much younger husband then kind of.
But is that how the math works out?
Oh, yeah. Good for her. Yeah, she was, he was, she was in her mid-30s and I was
born he was in his mid-60s.
But then my stepdad's like eight years younger than she is.
So she got her younger guy.
But yeah, but yeah,
that my,
my grandpa,
which he died and I was real little too,
I didn't know him on my dad's side.
They're all old,
you know,
when I was born.
But they were all moonshangers and stuff too.
That's just how they made their extra money and stuff.
Just another Dan Kentucky, right?
Yeah.
He made, my mom said, like,
we lived in old, like,
shack,
and he'd made it, like, under the house.
Like, he's like,
everybody knew when he was making it,
because he was like, you can see like the smoke rolling out,
like the smoke pipe under the dug out and he like,
it wasn't a secret.
Like everybody knew that, like, he's like,
you got to advertise.
You can't keep it a secret if everybody,
you can't sell it if nobody knows,
nobody knows about it.
But like,
it was like a small, like, little community.
And from what I hear, like,
he had to take my pat, my papaw to the doctor that day.
Like he knew, like the sheriff called him was like,
somehow I let him know, like, hey, we're coming up there.
So if you want to move it or something,
And we'll give it.
I don't know how all that went,
but I know he knew they were,
they gave him a heads up.
And he was like,
well,
I got to,
he didn't really care,
I don't think.
So he was like,
I got to take dad to the doctor that day.
So it was like,
apparently it was on the news and everything,
like a moonshine bust.
And my mom got arrested too because like she was a,
she lived,
it was under the house.
So she lived there.
So I guess she was a co.
A technically of a co-conspirator.
Oh my God.
They took into the little county jail and like,
somebody,
somebody bonded him out.
they only stayed there for like two or three hours
and then apparently the police
they went to the court here in like
flies and the police never showed up
and the judge like they're buying
and stuff that's how they do it
but he always swore
I remember telling them he always swore there was two or three
like courts missing like when they
took it all out like
to destroy it they said they stayed in there
a long time like by themselves
they made them stay outside they stayed in there a long time
he said they swore they were something missing
I remember growing up
the old barrels are over the hill from the house.
I remember you can see like the big axe marks.
You know, like, well, they take it like the Boston of the axe.
I vividly remember.
He quit before I was, mom made it.
I think mom kind of gave him the ultimatum to quit when she found out she was pregnant.
She's like, I can't be pregnant in like the police coming around up here.
Like a closet full of illegal moonshine in the house with a kid going around.
So that was all just stories from when I was here.
That was all in the past when I came around.
So.
it sounds like a different world back then for sure
oh yeah
I mean it's funny
like my uncle like my dad's brother
like I remember like he died when I was
15 but he like he made it too
like in a building inside there's just kind
like it was just what they done
you know yeah just another day
just what they done
so you make it out to Universal Studios once a year
which we're not going to make it next year
but we've been three years in a row now
So.
Nice.
But after that, won't you?
So you're talking about it.
Once the baby gets old enough, I'm sure we'll be going quite a bit.
That's your guys is going to be your first kid, right?
Yeah.
Yeah.
That's new in February.
February of six.
How's, have you been in dad mode of building a, building a, building a crib?
So have you done anything specific for the?
I started remodeling the bedroom last weekend.
You guys were talking about like mold and sheet rock, like, we call it sheet rock right here, but dry law.
Yeah.
We were, I started on all that.
Like, that part of our house is kind of old.
Like, the rest of our house is new.
That's part of the, like, older part of the house.
So I pulled the old panel and off the walls.
I'm just going to put, like, dry wall over top, like, just back in its place to get rid of it.
But then there was, like, five layers of old wallpaper.
I had to tear out.
And there was, like, some old board.
Yeah.
Turns out it was mold.
It was molding behind the wall.
Oh, damn.
Good you caught it now rather than that.
Yeah.
Fuck your lungs up rather than the baby's lungs.
That's what I've been fighting for the past week is I finally got it all.
They left the gap in the floor between the two rooms.
So the inside of the wall was pretty much exposed to under the air from under the house.
Oh, damn.
Got all that moonshine air.
Yeah.
This is a different house.
I know, I know.
It was still funny.
Yeah, it was funny.
But I had to seal all that up and like scrape.
I was all done all last weekend was, it was going to be like a half-day project of tearing the wall out.
I was going to go back this weekend, just put the dry wall back and just turned into a much.
My whole weekend was spent going to buy a mold killer and with a scrub brush and scrubbing the walls and putting dehumidifiers in there.
You have to be a real adult now because you had a little one coming.
So do you know what you're going to have or can you share?
I mean, you don't have to share if you don't want to.
It's a boy.
That's awesome.
That's awesome.
Are you going to be able to take any time off of work?
I know, you know, most people are allowed to take paternity time.
even if you take FMLA or something and, you know, eat some money, but get it, you know, be around.
I'm going to turn in a week's vacation time for sure.
I'm still getting paid for it.
Then we'll see after that.
We don't get, like, any paid time off for it.
Yeah.
I can, like, if I wanted to, like, I need a few more days off work, I could.
I'm pretty sure.
I mean, it's, isn't it?
I think it's a lot.
I think FMLA, I don't know.
Maybe state by state because I know just, I know New York just has a lot more recently,
they've got a lot expanded what you can use FMLA for, but I look into that.
I mean, I know it's maybe a little late now, but, you know, if that's something, if you could afford to, you know, live on a partial pay for a little bit of time to actually, you know, be there to help out.
I know when my boss had a kid, he took, like, fucking, like, three months off.
Oh, damn.
I think it's, I looked it up.
I think it's like law you can take up to, like, three weeks off.
I think is what it is.
Like, without, without them, like, without any, like, you can't get in trouble at work.
Nice.
Yeah.
Like three weeks off.
But my job, especially that.
time of year where it's wintertime. My job's, I can kind of start, I have my own stores to take.
I can kind of start when I want to and come home when I want to if like nothing's a pressing emergency
that needs to care of. So like if I need to start at 10 or 11 o'clock today, I can.
Or if I need to run home like midday to take care of something, I can also, if like nothing's
going on, nobody's like telling me not to, you have to be here till this time. You have to start this
time. But on the other hand, if like the ice cream's melting, I have to stay, you know, until the
I just be going to give and take.
Do you have any siblings or you're the only child?
I have a stepbrother and a step sister,
but as far as the honeycut side,
I'm the only...
So is this going to be the first,
so not the first grandkid for your parents then?
My sister has a little baby.
He's three years old now.
He's going to be the second grandboy.
Nice.
I mean,
there's still have some cousins not ridiculously age-gapped
because, you know,
it's nice to have some family growing up for sure.
He'll have them.
He'll have a hundred.
Hunter's boy to play with.
Yeah.
That's true.
All right.
Well, we got some new games this week.
I think we're going to hit us with, you know,
we like to switch it up every now and then here.
Change is good as I've been told.
So this one was submitted by one of our friends, Big Jen.
I'm not familiar with her.
I think she played this with some friends or something
and wanted to add it to the podcast.
So I'm going to hit you with this one.
And then she has wanted to follow up with.
All right.
So it's the zombie apocalypse game.
I'm not sure if she gave you any hints about
this one going into it. So for the listeners, I'm just going to read it verbatim. If there was a zombie
apocalypse or it was the end of the world as we know it, who is the one person you would choose
to bring with you and why? You can only pick one. So the caveat basically would be like,
would you just pick your spouse because you have to? Or would you pick someone that you want to
survive with that would actually have your back? And your family's dead and their fucking
faces are eaten by zombies. But you might survive.
to live to be 60 until you get too old to keep running.
You pick one of your redneck buddies that also can shoot and kill.
Like that's the dilemma.
Yeah.
Do you how much so do you want to live in this shitty fucking world and survive as long as you can?
Or do you want to be with your wife for however long she makes it?
But your wife might be a country girl that can fucking hunt and shoot and fish and kill zombies.
I don't know.
She went last long without me.
Okay.
So yes, that's what's the, what's...
So as much as this is probably a...
make Hunter upset. I'll have to pick my wife.
I'm going to go with her because
I don't, what would really be the point of just living
by yourself with one of your buddies, like,
for the next, I think I'd just rather
go with her as long as I could.
If you were as straight as you come, it might,
it might be more fun, but, you know, so
if you're not as straight as your come, it's probably not as much fun.
Yeah, yeah.
I think I'm not going to like that.
I'll speak highly.
Fair enough, fair enough.
I did hear before we, I, I,
Jen said that she did not pick her husband, but I'm going to answer before she gives her reasoning
is I understand the concept of picking someone that would help you survive, but also to relay
what Mr. Honeycutt said, I wouldn't fucking survive without my wife emotionally or mental.
I couldn't decomp-no, I couldn't compartmentalize the fact that like I just want to live and
survive no matter what.
Yeah.
Like that just wouldn't, like, I'm okay with, like, a.
sucks as shitty as it's going to be to die
someday. Like, I don't
want to live in a fucking horrible
world just to survive and be
chased day by day. Like,
that doesn't sound cool.
Yeah, that doesn't sound. It'd be fun for a
far as well, but he'd probably get old.
They'd probably get old really quick.
But my wife and I would not survive very long. We would
be gone pretty quick. Yeah.
We would die very horrible,
painful, eaten death.
I think, I think
Wesley has an advantage, though, because he can pretty much
do anything anyway. So I picked my dad in the event only because it's not that I, yes, I love my husband
and I love my son very much. But the game was to think, okay, do I want to survive? Do I want to
help other people like rebuild our world? And then they get the opportunity to have the same life
that I did when I was, you know, growing up. And so I picked my dad because my dad's
kind of like you Wesley where he can hunt and fish and he can process his own food and he can can do
all these things that you could teach someone else and like you could rebuild your your world and yeah it might
suck but you're you're going to find a community and you're going to be able to do that so I think
that's why I picked him and so I was wondering your take because you you are like my dad where you can
do all that stuff on your own so it makes sense.
probably the one having to help people, happen to keep people alive.
Which probably will get you killed, actually.
I have a lot of responsibility, probably.
I don't want that much responsibility.
Yeah, it's the end of the world, for God's sake.
I don't want to fucking, like, I don't want to respond to the goddamn email.
Does this in-person email?
Yeah.
I'm just trying to relax.
Happy Monday, go, fuck yourself.
I don't have to work anymore.
I'm just trying to relax.
The grocery stores don't exist anymore.
I don't have to go to work.
Garcia Stores, the back 40.
Yeah, yeah.
It was probably like five years or so ago.
And it's funny, now I talked to like Damager and David and Andrew and stuff and even
Grayson about just workplace things that we hate.
And now that you say that, you know, just having nothing to think about for a little bit
would kind of be nice.
So maybe I should just pick Sean and we just, you know what?
If we make it a day, we make it a day.
It's fine.
One of my coworkers today, he was.
was like, would you go to jail for a year for a million dollars? And my immediate response was,
I should not have said this because like I'd get in trouble. I was like, I would kill you for a
million dollars. Like that was my immediate. And then I was like, I tried to like back. I kind of like
joked it off. I was like, oh, you should, because like, you know, if anyone would be a dick and say that
to HR, I could forget fucking fired. But these guys were worse than I am. So, but it was just like,
yeah, I don't know. I thought it was funny. Somewhat similar.
Yeah. The zombie apocalypse would be a lot different around. Like the population is so low. I think
You drive out of zombies around here.
You definitely would have a fucking bullets down there.
No, no, that's for sure.
Everything's all spread out and stuff like that,
up all these hilers and everything.
Well, I'm coming down your way then if it actually happens.
I'm going to hang out in the bunker.
Okay, so the other game, since you do have a little one.
When is your little one due?
February 6.
All right, okay.
So you still have a little bit.
at a time. But another game I was thinking of was just, I try not to get too emotional, but I think
about traditions and, you know, things that you grew up with as a kid and like things I grew up
with a kid and, you know, things, whatever, that you want to pass on. So I guess I have twofold.
So are there traditions that you grew up with that you're hoping to pass on to your son or
to your future other children that you want to carry on that you did?
And then second part of that question is,
are there new things that you and Haley maybe have talked about
that you're hoping to have,
create new traditions for you and your little family?
I'm not sure if we have a whole lot of actual, like, traditions as like, as a family.
Like we always had Christmas dinner, Thanksgiving dinner, like, stuff like that.
We didn't have very, like, many specific, like, niche things we're doing.
I'm here looking forward to Christmas, though, like with the kids,
because I loved Christmas as a kid, like.
Yeah.
As a kid.
And I like all the movies.
and stuff too.
But now, like, I've seen them all the time.
It's just me and Haley.
It's hard to sit down and watch an old Christmas movie.
You've watched a thousand times as a kid.
I'm excited to get to watch all that stuff again with someone who's never seen it before.
They're like, a kid's excitement at Christmas.
You know what I mean?
I'm just kind of, I'm looking forward to that again.
I remember as a kid, like, how excited I'd be at Christmas time and everything.
You know, once you get an adult, like, and it's just you and just two adults, right?
It's not as fun.
Not as fun.
I'm looking forward to all that.
like we love fall and stuff like that
like Halloween. I'm looking forward to doing all that
kind of stuff a kid
doing all the stuff we already do but just
having an excuse to do like the kid stuff
to have a thing parks and amusement parks
and like we'll have an excuse stuff
that's what I told my lot like I said we'll have an excuse to do all
the kid stuff we like to do and not look weird
I heard anything anymore. That's so true
well Universal Studios can be
you know part of your you know new tradition
I guess or Disney World or one of
at that time.
I have a cousin that works at Disney, so she could get us in, get us in for free.
Are you going to be a Christmas morning person, or do you think that's going to be your day?
We've always been Christmas morning because we never did get to do anything Christmas Eve.
There's always Christmas morning that my wife's family are Christmas Eve people,
but I think my life leans more towards the Christmas morning.
That's good for your kids, yeah, for your family.
That's perfect.
That's awesome.
Yeah.
All right. All right, Keith, you want me to read a couple. You get some affiliates. Get a little affiliate with them.
Yeah, so we got a couple more affiliate links to read. We got Barbell Rescue. We got who we just talked about, Big Kim, Home JimCon, and Jim Radar. Code unpaid gets you a free account on Jim Radar.
That was. I can't remember who said that the first time. It's been in the last three or four weeks. Someone had said it. And then we've been kind of, I can't, was it Joey that's, I honestly don't remember. I honestly don't remember.
remember who said it. I can't remember. I remember whenever it was said, I, like, specifically, like, opened up my blank document that I copy, paste every week for the show notes and, like, edited that into the Jim Radar ad for the film. I got a kick out of that. It's, uh, it was, all right, big Wesley, are you familiar with unpaid or underrated? It's a game we like to play here. I don't think I explained it well enough last week because it was butchered on the answers of what the hell under what under what it even, I can't remember what. You can buy. You can buy. You can buy.
both the answers. Yeah, and I was like, wait, I don't, I don't know what your, I don't know what your answer is.
I didn't, but anyway, so unpaid or underrated. Anyone, uh, everybody in the, the Honeycutt family tree
listening for the first time, it's a game we like to play here. So we're going to give him up to six
topics total and he has to decide with druthers if it is unpaid, which, you know, sucks because
no one wants to be unpaid or unpaid, or paid, or paid, or underrated?
So big Wesley, I'm going to hit you with a few here. Unpaid or underrated vinegar.
Vinegar favorite flutes more than anything.
unpaid for sure. I hate
I hate anything with vinegar
with vinegar. Anything pickled, anything that has
like buffalo sauce, anything, anything,
I can't do it. We must be related because I'm in the same boat.
I can't stay. You don't like pickle either?
Oh, well, okay, I guess for me more it's just vinegar, vinegar, vinegar.
Just vinegar vinegar, vinegar. I loat the smell as a whole.
Yeah, I do too. I can't.
Give me not vinegar flavored foods and I'll be super
happy.
Salt and vinegar
chips.
I can't do that.
Like those are.
I like the way
you say pickles.
Pickles.
Well, this one here
might be the first time
I actually have to ask you.
I don't know if it's because it's a typo in the submission
or if it's a Kentucky thing.
I'm going to read it as it's
you know,
put here.
A good pone,
Poon?
P-O-N-E?
P-O-N-E? I don't know what the fuck.
P-O-N-E is not a word that I've ever seen him before.
That's Hunter.
That's Hunter.
He's talking about a...
Of corn bread.
Cornbread.
Is it a prone, though?
Isn't it supposed to be?
A pone.
I don't know.
It's probably a word that's been butchered or something else.
A lot of old people around here.
It's supposed to be pan?
They call like a pome of cornbread.
That's what old people would call a...
Like a...
Like you get your cast iron, like your cornbread out of a cast iron skillet.
It's a little round.
A lot of old timers around here.
We call that a pone of cornbread.
I don't know where it comes from.
I've just heard it my whole life.
Yeah.
It is.
It's a real word, Keith.
Interesting.
That's definitely underrated.
I've got some good cornbread.
Nice.
Now, do you have any strong feelings one way or another on cornbread pudding?
Or cornbread casserole, that is?
Sorry.
I don't think I've ever had.
I don't think you have that around here.
That's pretty good.
Oh, I think you'd like it.
It is tasty.
We only have, we only make it here on like certain, like, a lot of times.
in the fall, we have some soup or we don't eat like that. I don't eat like that much.
Sometimes on the weekends I'll have something fried and go back to the roots.
Cornbread and chili for me was a staple growing up for sure.
Like cornbread was had to go with chili.
Yeah, a lot of times when I make chili, I'll make cornbread and stuff.
Tell me, you got to make a cinnamon law.
All right.
I don't do sweet stuff with dog and stuff. I don't like it.
I'd rather have salty too, but I do like a good sweet treat.
All right. Unpaid or underrated shorts.
And with the story,
a funny story earlier was basically one of the guys,
Hunter or the other one,
said he doesn't think you actually have legs
because he's never seen him before.
I'm back. I think he's brought that over time or two.
So unpaid or underrated shorts, wearing shorts,
having shorts, having those legs exposed.
Shorts are unpaid.
I'm a, I'm a joker.
I'm a honing.
I call longs.
I was like shorts and say, I like longs.
I'm a paid sky.
I've just always been a pants, a pants guy.
At this point it's been so long, if I went outside of the sun with my legs exposed,
I would have like third degree sundar in the top.
That reminds me, you know, because Big Lou, friend of the podcast,
one, like, sexiest legs over in the Nebraska County Fair, whatever it was.
They had the men going through the sexiest legs at the Iowa State Fair, too,
and one of the categories was whitest legs.
my god that guy's the legs were so white it was crazy holy shit i just i had to be
my follow-up to that was gonna be well don't you wear shorts in the gym and i'm just going to
your instagram you don't fucking no shorts in the gym i don't own i don't own a parachute where it's
i'm committed wild i'm committed i keep it in the 60s in here anyways it's not very hot i got
this like a good eye condition i keep it i keep it turned down it probably doesn't take much to
to cool that the little thing either i've done that so long
like I don't pay, like, it's one thing to be in my life so long. I don't really like pay attention.
Like it's not, it's not anything out. Like, I'm burning up because of these pants. It's like,
it's what I've always wore, you know, so. So you like, remember as a child, like, not wanting
to wear shorts? Like, you're, there's no way your mom got, let you just wear pants year round, right?
Like, you had to wear shorts. When I was a little kid, I wore my stuff. Like, once I got,
like, old enough, I was buying my own stuff and stuff and stuff like that. I just, like, wear
pants to work and wear pants, like out. Like, like, I wear boots and stuff a lot of times.
Yeah, boots and shorts aren't the most.
I wear shoots and...
I have to wear shorts and boots all the time at work,
but only because I have to wear steel coats,
but I do get to wear shorts, which is a bonus,
which a lot of companies don't let you...
I mean, yeah, your shorts are pretty long,
and they got a lot of pocket, so...
Well, I'm fucking... They're long because I'm fucking 5'8,
so everything's goddamn...
They're all longs when you're fucking 5'8.
That's what I refer to a master of a hundred name.
I thought about shorts is I'm a longs guy.
I love it.
I love it.
No shorts. That's wild. Okay. Well, hopefully that's not, hopefully that's not a tradition you pass one to your kid because having the legs out, there's nothing wrong with it. But yeah, those are mine. I'm all set. What you got? Okay. My turn. Oh, yeah. We left you a couple.
Oh, there's some good ones, though. You can always scroll up, too, if there's anything from other things.
Yeah. Jump out better. Okay, I added this one. I don't know why. I just thought it was funny because you're from Kentucky. So I had to know.
if you think Kentucky fried chicken is unpaid or underrated?
I don't think on that one.
I think it's probably underrated.
I don't eat a lot of fried chicken, but if I do, that's usually where we.
We have that in like a, I don't know if they're like a nation right there,
just local, like least famous recipe chicken.
We have both those in town.
Usually I'll go to KFC.
It's just to verify.
I'm more of a chicken tenders.
I'm more of a chicken tenders guy
instead of like a chicken on bone guy.
It did originate there, right?
That's what they say.
Not around here, though, I don't think.
It's somewhere out in the real part of Kentucky,
not the eastern mountains.
Not in the haulers?
No.
All right, so unpaid or underrated Milwaukee tools.
Oh, those are unpaid for sure.
I have all kinds of Milwaukee.
Milwaukee tools. I wanted them to make the Milwaukee
Massonomics banner for the gym. I never
would. I never could talk them into making it though.
When they don't like the
the Massonomics Milwaukee shirts.
She made underrated then.
Oh, did I say it backwards?
I think you said unpaid, didn't he?
I'm sorry. Yeah, I did. I'm sorry.
You're good. No, you're good. I was just
I like them. I like them.
Yeah, I love them. So, okay.
I got, I got it. I got it.
Yeah, fuck DeWald. He loves Milwaukee.
Yeah, I don't like DeWall.
Milwaukee does have a bigger variety than DeWalt, but I'm just too, I'm fucking, I'm 15 years into DeWalt.
I'm not getting rid of my $500 worth of 20-volt battery.
He's like, I'm stuck.
Oh, yeah.
I started out on Milwaukee.
So if I started out on DeWall, I'd probably be in that camp.
Milwaukee had better marketing.
They had more people in YouTube videos using it when I was buying tools.
I think that's right.
I think, oh, sorry.
Oh, sorry.
When I worked in my first, my first job, that's all I did.
use Milwaukee Tools.
And so when I married my husband, he was a Dwalt guy.
And I was like, oh, well, I don't know how to use this because it's not red.
I grew up using, what the fuck is it?
Oh, Krasman 19.2.
That was the big thing.
Like when I first got into construction and shit and when I was a teenager,
it was the old NICAD Krasman 19.2.
I had that for up until I was, I don't know, my late 20s.
All right. So my last one, unpaid or underrated, since you're a big Universal Studios guy, Orlando.
I'm going to say it's underrated, but the only places we ever go that, we fly and go straight to the hotel and then it's shuttle back and forth to the park.
So the part where Universal is is underrated for sure. But I can't comment on the rest of it because I've never been anywhere besides the airport.
That's all my just being like one of those layover cities where it's like, you know, there's a lot of cities I've gone to, but I've only been to the airport.
So does that count as being to the city?
Like, I don't know.
Probably not.
Then I haven't made.
I think one of my headphones is bad.
Can you still hear me?
Yep, you're good.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Well, you did pass.
That was good.
So what you got to do.
Well, you did pass.
That was good.
You get lots of, unless there's any of them jumping out that you wanted to follow to that you had to hit him with, Jen.
No, I don't think so.
I think we did good.
We covered a lot of ground on this episode.
episode.
We know he lists cats, so we don't need to ask them.
Yeah.
Well, that's the hard part is when you build the unpaid or underrated list from what's
submitted, and then you cover 80% of it throughout the fucking course of the podcast.
So that's why I always kind of have to scroll back up.
What did we not talk about that seems interesting?
And let me ask that.
All right.
Big Wesley, is there anything that you have for gin or I that you wanted to hit us with?
Could be, you know, something simple, something funny.
You don't have to.
It's fine too.
I can think it right off the top of my head.
All right.
Well, then we can bring this one in for our landing.
Actually, I'll ask you one more thing.
So, Lift Hard Live Easy or Crew Falls, any of those on your bucket list or with the kid coming?
And with work being 80 hours a week, you're pretty much going to be whatever you can get to in one day.
I'd like to come, but he'll probably be a few more years when the kid gets older.
And I'll get another week's vacation in a couple years.
So right now my vacation time is me and my wife usually take a week somewhere.
And then like the other week, I only get two weeks.
He's broken up like for, I need a day off with this.
I'll take a long weekend here or something.
Yeah, it's hard when you don't get that much PTO.
It's kind of hard to take a trip without your wife and leave her at home and stuff like that.
But we want Henry to come.
She's not all that interested in what all goes on.
Well, tell her that all the cool shit that Massonomics does together is a whole lot more fun than her one day walking around the Arnold being overwhelmed with.
She had a good time at the Arnold.
But she also likes to be home.
I'll feel that.
I'll have to convince her to go to South Dakota.
So maybe one of these days.
Oh, we'll get you out there.
Regardless, it sounds like you'll be a mainstay at a home gym con at least.
Yeah.
In your backyard.
I'll have to come visit you, Wesley.
So where can come here and lift?
Do you think you'll do the Arnold again?
Or more of the Eagle than the Arnold.
Fuck the Arnold.
But coming to the dinner, it's only a...
I won't get to this year, maybe next year.
Because my child will be like three weeks old.
Yeah, oh, yeah, that tracks.
Well, Columbus, from where you're at, that's not a quick drive either, is it?
It's like four and a half, five hours.
Yeah, that's a bit much for a dinner.
I don't want to leave my life home at night alone, like three weeks into it.
He won't leave her alone during the apocalypse.
It only is going to leave her alone for a great anymore.
I think she's going to leave her alone with a child.
I think she found a good one and she's stuck with you.
So, hopefully that sounds like a good match for sure.
Well, well, if you were single, where would you have people find you at on the Instagram there?
I think it's Wesley Honeycutt 3.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
And then Big Jen, where are you at?
Get Strong Gen 24 on Instagram and Big Gen.
Discord.
Oh, yeah.
So we got the Instagram, unpaid and underrated podcast.
We got the website, Unpaid Internpodcast.com.
The most important place to go chit chat, though, is the U&U channel on the Massonomics Discord.
I am Big Keith on Instagram, Keith Honeycutt 73.
