All right, welcome back to episode 176 of the unpaid and underrated podcast, a podcast by crew for a crew.
I am Big Jen and I have five other Hoff chips hanging out with me today.
We have Big Katie.
Howdy, howdy.
We have Big Gena Lee.
Hi.
Big Hannah.
Hello.
Big Murph.
Hey.
And last but not least, we have Big Jess.
Greetings.
I'm still laughing about Hoff.
Hoff.
Half, yeah.
First I heard that.
A big acronym person here from the corporate world.
We like to shorten everything.
So we are the chips, and more specifically, we're the Hall of Fame chips.
So I think there'll be a few more joining us in the next month at least.
So our crew will get bigger.
But we're just going to have fun tonight.
So we asked everybody to send in questions.
So we're excited to answer all those questions.
We are going to do a quick around the room
because we haven't heard from some of these ladies in a while.
And we're going to do a section on what grinds your nerling.
Or as Tanner likes to say, what puts a bee in your bonnet
for those people that are listening.
to the back catalog.
Oh, bonus points for anybody listening to the back catalog.
Do you remember why he had to be in his bonnet?
I don't think I got there yet.
I'm not there yet.
Okay, never mind.
We'll have Nate take that part out.
Okay.
All right, so let's go around the room.
Just any quick updates that you want to give the crew that for anybody that
hasn't heard from any while.
So I'm going to start with Big Katie.
What's new with you?
Not a whole lot full off season training now.
My back has slowly gotten back to normal, which is good.
I have a little issue going on at the Lift Hard Live Easy.
I have continued on my stupid side quest of running a mile every day.
So we hit Day 100 earlier this week.
If you are counting back, that means yes.
I ran in Aberdeen.
So still continuing on that bullshit.
It is bullshit.
It is bullshit, yeah, 100%.
For those that saw my gym tour, I believe the bags of soil were featured.
So that has grown into harvesting of my husband's 52 pepper plants.
So most of last weekend was spent figuring out what to do with all of his sweet peppers.
and I recently completed the half-big thoughts on training backlog.
Heck yeah.
Training out through the four-hour episode.
Yeah, we don't need to talk about what speed I listened to that on.
I feel like though you can, and just probably can attest that,
I feel like you can listen to that episode.
There are episodes at like almost one and a half and it sounds like normal people talking.
Yeah, for sure.
There's a lot of space, a lot of downtime.
and a lot of slow talkers.
So it just sounds normal.
I did see your picture of the peppers and the harvest.
They looked really good.
So what did you decide to do with them?
Oh, eat them.
I also pickled a few into like a relish.
And then we've got a bunch frozen.
We've made some fajitas.
Probably some will end up on pizza this weekend.
That sounds good.
Yeah, we had a bumper crop of peppers this year.
All right. Well, thanks, Big Katie. I feel like such an announcer.
Okay. Big Genet Lee, what's up with you? Tell us all the thoughts.
Well, I just saw you, right?
Yes, I want to hear all about it.
Well, we can recap everyone else, but you know exactly what happened.
Yeah, well, I just did the Beast Battle with Hannah in Sioux Falls,
crew falls um so i'm on my like
close meet depression week with that
and that's about it yeah
okay come on give us a give us a
do you want like the full recap
i want to at least here how
tell me at least how prep went like how did you feel
during prep and then
Okay. Yeah. So basically, there was like one week where I went camping and then I knew there'd be five weeks after that to prep. So I just had Jake do a five week prep. And I pretty much knew that I probably was going to get everything. So it was okay. I just wanted to make sure I could do it not too slowly. That's not exactly how it went once I got there, unfortunately. But, but, but,
prep was good. I had to do like a miniature cut because I actually had to wait in for the first time ever in my life. I don't know if I'm the only person who can like gain five pounds from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Yeah. Really? Very easy. Yeah. So I had to get well under so I could go there the evening before. Yeah.
So I did that. And that was fine.
So that was part of my prep was my mini-cut.
Yeah, by the time I got there, I totally missed the log with absolutely no reason whatsoever as to why.
No, the reason was that it was outside and it was like raining and Gale Force winds at some points.
Do you think it's because it was a 12-inch and you'd been training on 10?
I can't say that because I used a 12-inch log at home.
Yeah, the Rooslog is 12.
Yeah.
There's really no good reason other than, yeah, nothing.
It's fine.
It's fine.
Nobody cares.
It is totally fine.
I had no problem with that.
I was like, I'm going to go and just redeem myself on every other event.
So I got rolling with that, right?
Deadlift's going good, knocked it out of the park.
Then I get to the farmer carry, and it doesn't move.
And so Jonathan's like, nope, the weights are wrong.
The weights wrong.
He's like yelling it out at the people and nobody's budging or saying anything.
But the weights are wrong.
And they just stand there.
They don't even respond to him.
I just don't get it.
Then I wait.
And that's when Caden is like, oh, he just does that.
I just knew that he was going to do that.
so Colton. Colton. Oh, yeah. Colton is like, he did that last year, so it's fine.
But it's not fine. Yeah. But in all reality, look at it this way. Like, say I had gotten that,
would I be as mad? Probably not. But I still believe that it's totally wrong, totally not safe,
and just absolutely stupid.
Even if, you know, I had gotten it, I'd be like, oh, that's cool.
I lifted heavier than I needed to.
But I'd be like, what, who does that?
What the hell?
Yeah, that's kind of shitty.
And the rest went fine after that, of course.
The first part is I'm friends with both, obviously, you and Hannah.
And then to see, so when Hannah did the first pick, because she went, you went first, right, Hannah?
So you did the first pick and your, first of all, your grunt was amazing.
But secondly, I'm like, I didn't feel like it looked like it was what I expected it to be from you, I guess.
So then in your mind, like, well, something's not right.
And then you don't think about it.
And then when you struggle to get it up on the mat down at the end, I was like, I can't, I can't get why she can't just get it over the hub.
Like, just pick it up.
Nobody is down there just like telling her like one more step, one more inch.
Like there's nothing being said.
Yeah, I have a lot of thoughts that we can share about that.
Yeah.
And then when and I had just watched obviously you generally do your final run and you did 160.
And I told Sean, I looked at my husband and said, I don't understand why she can't get it.
Like, why is she not getting it?
Like at least picked up.
And then we figured it out.
So I can't remember how many times I tried, though.
A million.
Like, I didn't stop because I'm just like, nothing makes sense in my head right now.
I think it was at least six, at least six times that you really gave it.
You're all to try to stand up.
We're just screaming like one more, just try it one more time.
You could like one more time.
First I'm going to listen to you guys.
But you're like, fuck you.
That was not right.
Something is not right.
And then my poor back.
It was just like, only slightly exhausting.
Yeah.
So that was a real bummer.
So for those that maybe aren't picking up on at her and don't, maybe don't read the discord, the handle.
Like Hannah and Genelie's weights did not include the handles, which is the stupidest, excuse my language, stupidest fucking thing.
That's like not counting the barbell when you're doing, when you're doing a powerlifting competition.
Like, that's just insanity to me.
Like, even in powerlifting, you can.
count the, you freaking count the little thingies too.
Well, the equivalent, it was like the equivalent of 40 pounds.
So I mean, yeah, it's not talking about a couple here or there or whatever, but.
Yeah.
And then, you know, looking at, say you're going to look at Iron Podium and you're like,
oh, what did Hannah lift that day?
It's going to say 140 and that's not what she did.
She did 160.
So he, you know, he should still go change it, I think.
Yeah.
I want credit for those handles.
Seriously.
I do.
That was insane.
My farmers carry ended up like total weight ended up being heavier than the yolk that I did after that.
Yeah, that's true.
That is true.
I mean, I did the math, but I didn't like put two and together.
Holy crap.
Yeah, that was, that was wicked.
That's awful.
Which is just proof to us of what you can do with your deadlift now, in my opinion.
Waiting.
It's loading.
Don't worry.
Yes, I know.
All right. So last but not least, you got some, I know you have a lot of girls and you got them all in dance. Is that taking up a lot of time? Yes. I think my head is spinning at all times. So tonight I'm just like, okay, Jonathan, you have to just take the girls to dance, also feed them supper, go pick up our homecoming shirts, you know, all this stuff that I would normally do. No big deal. No big deal. And then, and hell, and like, you.
You still kicked ass in the, that's the way I look at it. You know what? We're women, we kick ass,
we do the things that most women don't do. And we're all doing it. Why we're raising cats,
we're raising dogs, we're raising kids, we're raising all the things. We're working full time or
whatever we're doing. We're doing it all. And I love it. That's why I'm like, this is close.
This is just a couple hour drive. So I want to, you know, take advantage of that. But then it's just,
well maybe that's not worth it because it's just not the greatest one to do maybe you'll drive farther
next year and come down with me all right thanks generally all right big hannah we're part of your
but we want to hear the rest like what's been going on with you my prep leading into the beast
battle was kind of brutal um because well you know i've been in prep then since march
Yeah.
You know, it went right from LutTard Live Easy into that.
That it was, it was really wearing on me doing all those, like, heavy carries that
was begging Jake to let me stop.
But yeah, it went pretty well, all things considered.
I mean, obviously we have things to discuss about the particulars of that meat, but I'm glad
it's done.
And I will continue training with Jake whenever he gets his, you know, lazy bum knee off the
couch and writes me another program to start after all this.
Place you bump, quote-unquote broken knee.
Yeah, I think you're fine, Jake.
But otherwise, nothing else really going on.
There is a chance that I might technically start to be a home gym adjacent.
We're going to buy, potentially, buy some strong man equipment to keep at the gym that Grayson's
going to.
So that, because the thought of not working out with him ever again, since we're at separate
gyms is kind of sad.
And I was like, well, we can just find some cheap stuff and keep it there.
It sounds like the owner of the gym, at least the location that we go to seem pretty jazzed
about having some of that there.
So I'll probably keep my membership at Lowe's until we find some good deals on stuff.
Then I'll go back over there and have some my own stuff.
Well, you have to tell Grayson, and then if you're watching.
and look for stuff in Des Moines
because I could always bring it up to Crew Falls
or to lift hard, lift easy.
There's usually some good deals around there.
And maybe
you have potential trip
coming up. We do have
a trip coming up. And it
just so happens to be over Grayson's birthday.
So I'm not getting anything
for me. But we are
going to New Zealand
for a video game convention
and then some other things
of course, other nerdy stuff. We're going to
go on the Lord of the Rings movie set tour, of course, while we're down there.
All that good stuff.
But yeah, that's in November.
We'll leave for our flight on a Wednesday.
We'll get there on Friday because it's like a 26-hour travel day.
And then we'll leave the following Friday, but then we'll get back on Friday.
Yeah.
So we'll be there for a whole week.
So it's going to be.
And a hotel for a week in New Zealand, by the way, is cheaper than a weekend in Aberdeen.
So that's pretty nice.
Wow.
As long as you don't value your time.
Yeah, exactly.
But that's about all I got coming down the pipe.
That's awesome.
I can't wait to hear about the trip.
Oh, you will.
If we talk about the trip at Kruf Falls, I'll have to record part of it so I can, because,
I know I've told you before, but Lincoln and his girlfriend, Ella, are big.
everything. They love video gaming. They love
anime. They love all the stuff.
It's just like a younger
version of you and Grace. It's what it reminds
me of. But, so I have to record
it, play it to them and they'll be like,
oh yeah, I know this. I know this. I know this. I know this.
They'll be so excited.
All right.
Let's move on. Okay. This has got to be the biggest
update because
Big Murph, we haven't heard from you for a long
time. In fact,
Gena Lee and Katie
have not even met you yet.
So it's nuts.
So we need to have your update.
What's been going on?
What's bringing you back?
When will we see you next?
Oh, the saga.
I did the first two live hearts and then I've just had a series of like pretty, pretty decent
excuses, I think.
But I've had some health issues, some family issues that have just thrown me off of
regular training or having a regular life, I suppose.
So the last year and a half or so,
I've been dealing with vestibular migraine.
So it's some shit where like the primary symptom is vertigo.
It's not actually like classic migraine,
which I also have, but they're separate.
But so I've just been dealing with being dizzy all the time,
which kind of throws off training, which is in my top three,
like regular migraine preventatives.
So that was kind of a bitch.
Can you drive or are you able to do it?
If I'm symptom-free, yes.
If I'm having any sort of like related symptoms, no, because then I know it might come on.
Yeah.
It varies.
I mean, I don't normally drive for work.
Like, I take, I walk and take the metro.
Like, I don't mess with driving for work because I just can't get with the stress.
But, yeah, but I've been working with the vestibular rehabilitation therapist to stress.
to strengthen my vestibular system, I'm learning all kinds of shit.
Yeah.
We're going to have to Google these words later.
But, yeah, so I've been getting back into lifting a little bit here and there,
but, like, the break from social media through all of that, I don't give a shit about posting.
I don't record anything anymore.
So, like, getting back into that, I don't know if it'll happen.
But I am around.
Some people message me, and, like, I post stories here and there.
but like I am lifting again.
I have like a whole warm-up routine of like checking my dizziness of the day
before I can do any barbell activities.
Otherwise I know sit your ass down and like do other stuff.
I also recently at the urging of my therapist got some sandbags.
Uh-oh.
Those are not another strong man.
Not trying to anything anytime soon.
But yeah, just to be able to do some.
endurance stuff, like doing more sandbags and like holding the weight is like more comforting or
like centering. I'm not sure. But because cardio has been really tricky with like walking outside
going too far if I'm not feeling great. I don't want to be stumbling around. And then like
rowing, elliptical treadmill. It's all dizzy creating movements. So does it, I guess now I'm curious,
Like, how does it start?
Do they know why it happened?
So apparently I'm the, was the prime demographic.
Like, it usually starts in women in their late 30s,
who have a lifelong history of migraine,
who have, like, these other, like, five boxes that I'm like,
oh, okay, so I'm textbook.
So it just, I leveled up new, new kind of migraine.
But it took a long time to figure out that it was a type of migraine because, like, I've had migraine.
Like, that's classified as a migraine.
Well, okay. So, all right. Well, thank you for telling us that. Tell us something that at least one thing good that's happened.
Well, so most recently, and I'll let Jess tell more about this, but I just went up to Pennsylvania.
I was up there for a work trip. Decided, oh, they go hang out and see some folks. And so I went to
to the Highland Games and watched a bunch of crew.
I went to it a couple years ago, and there were like five people competing from crew
or three, maybe.
This time, tons of people couldn't even, like, watch everyone because they were in different
groups, but it was a really fun time.
Big Jess was there.
Just a whole bunch of people.
It was like a little mini reunion for me.
And then a bunch of new crew that I had to, like, add on Instagram later because I was
like, I'm really bad at, like, keeping up with who's been.
new in the last year.
So, but yeah, it was a lot of fun.
Yeah.
Hang out with everyone.
So there's a lot of fun.
And I'm going to try to talk to this.
I'm just going to compete next year.
Oh, oh, you're going to compete for Highland?
If Jess does it with me.
Aw.
Yay.
She was her clipboard so much.
Are you going to do it?
Can you give up a clipboard that long to do it?
I don't know.
I guess we'll have to see.
Waited clipboard toss.
There you go.
Clipboard over bar.
Oh my gosh.
All this office talk, I'm sure that we could do like office games like they did.
Now my brain's not thinking what they called the games on the office.
Office Olympics or whatever.
Well, good.
That was a good way to ease back, I suppose, because those people that were at the Highland Games,
including the wives, are top tier.
Good one.
I'm glad you're back.
easing into it, dropping into the Discord when you can.
We're happy to have you back.
Great.
All right.
Speaking of Highland Games, let's pass it over to Jess.
We want to hear what you've been up to, Jess.
Oh, you know, we are like in the middle of like Highland Games week.
So we were at that Highland Games meet up in Pennsylvania last weekend.
And this coming weekend, Matt, is competing in another Highland Games, the local one that's like, you know, in our home
town. So it's nice to not have to travel. You know, I have been doing what I do best for just
being a supporting member. You know, I have not, training has not been very consistent. It's,
I feel like I always say that we're in like a really busy season of life, but it never really
seems to end, unfortunately. So is it a season? Is it just a life? I don't know. But we're kind of
in a transitional phase with our training and I have not been keeping up on it. But I have been to
volunteering a lot. I loved all the volunteering that I did for all of the events at the Liftar
Live Easy in July. I helped out at a strong man show last month. We had a small kind of crew meet up
there. Keith was there, Chris Mark, and Lucas likes to lift things. Great to see those guys,
the Rochester crew. And then I got to jump in and help out with the Highland Games this past
weekend, too. So that was really fun. I know. I'm like, I'm Girl Blanche. I'm
all saying too close to the sun, I keep saying to that because the more that I volunteer,
I'm getting like, voluntled to like be, do like some kind of judging.
And I feel like wholly unqualified, really, I don't even really feel qualified to hold the
clipboard because my handwriting is really bad.
And that feels like central to the tenant of like writing on a clipboard is like,
you should have good writing.
But I just, I keep finding myself in persistence of judging people.
and I'm very good at being judgey.
One of my...
The passing day, she's just like,
I should be in charge.
Yeah, yeah.
I should.
Yeah.
As a Libra, and as a woman,
I feel really qualified to judge people
based on their merits.
But should I be judging the Highland Games
having never actually touched and implement in my life?
Yes.
Someone's got to do it.
Someone's got to do it.
And I'm here to volunteer.
I've been having a really good time.
You know, the Highland Games,
we had, like Murph said, it was such a good time.
It was so good to get everyone there.
There's old crew.
There's new crew.
It was a nice kind of like blend of all the kind of local people in New England and Pennsylvania.
We did bring our son there.
That was our first like crew event we brought our son to.
And I was a little bit worried about how that would go.
But it went really well.
As he's getting a little older, he's a little bit more independent.
But I was really glad that the group.
The crew is just so great.
I can't say enough good things that, like, I know that I feel like, you know, turn my back and look at something else and Matt's busy, that there's a collective, like, there's a good set of eyes.
People that I know are good people and, like, you know, having that kind of support is everything to me.
So things have been good, busy, but good.
Did you have anybody else he could play with?
Yes, actually.
We had met Eddie's son, Liam.
Oh, yeah.
About the same age or maybe one year older, they have a lot of similar interests.
But Dean, sometimes he can be a little bit shy.
So kind of walking into the event, he was a little overwhelmed with the number of people.
It took them a few hours to kind of like connect with each other from being like, you know, two tents away.
But then they were thickest thieves for the rest of the afternoon and kind of terrorize and all the other participants.
So, yeah.
That's awesome.
I have a thought like an adjacent question that has nothing to do with chips.
But did Chris Mark ever get a house?
house? Yes. Oh my gosh. I was just thinking of that because I am updating my Christmas card list
and I have him highlighted because I need his new address. I heard at the Strongman show in August that
he was now like under contract and he showed me pictures. I'm not sure if he's closed yet,
but it probably is imminent if it hasn't happened already. All right. I'll have to send him a message.
I know. Oh, sorry, go ahead. No, go ahead. I was taking a sideways. Go ahead. I was going to
I still think about when we were at your house, Jess, and then his realtor, like, he had made an offer on a house and his, and his realtor text seems like, we didn't get the house, L-O-L.
And Chris Mark was just like, what?
Why did you say L-O-L?
I still think about that, just randomly.
Oh, my gosh.
He's one of a kind.
I'm so glad that it's worked out.
And the house looks gorgeous.
I think he'll be really happy with it.
But, you know.
He's a really good guy.
All right, I guess.
Oh, I'm up.
Everybody hears from me now.
I'm like on whatever, but I do want to touch face.
I did have a great time going to see the Strongman event in Sioux Falls,
except for the stupid shit that happened, obviously.
And I'm friends with the Strongman promoter.
So obviously, Genelie and Hannah are texting Jake,
and I'm texting my friends, CJ and Lauren,
and being like, hey, real good.
quick question. Do you count the handles when you do farmer's handles? And she's like,
respectfully or not stupid. So it's like, okay, great. Yeah. So that was fun. But we went up the night
before. And so I had asked, my husband had gotten recommendations for food from a dispatcher
in Sioux Falls. And I was like, sent up to Hannah Grayson and said, um, no. Like,
We were like immediately no.
Yeah.
And so then I got some really good recommendations.
We ended up picking a Brazil restaurant.
It was so, I'm going to be thinking about that risotto for a very long time.
And so we had really good food.
And then we had Mexican afterwards.
And we got to see the, I got to see with my own eyes, the big burrito that Grayson eats.
It's just like the size of your arm.
It was awesome.
but then and then we hung out at the casino the rest of the night. It was really fun. So that's my
quick update. Sorry, Murph, you were going to say something. Take us on your tangent.
Oh, yeah.
Follow up because this is like the third time that I've heard Big Jess be like, and by the way, I'm going to need your address for my Christmas cards.
And I wanted to poll the group because I feel like if families do it, it's usually like the mom, the wife, the woman who's like, who's pulling together.
Does everyone send out Christmas cards?
My piece of shit, I always, I received them and I put them on my fridge.
It's like my friends and their kids and their pets and everything.
And I'm like, that's so cute.
That's lovely.
I've never sent out a Christmas card.
We did one and we absolutely killed it.
Everybody loved it.
We had like this bad Photoshop of Gary, who is the only cat we had at the time,
floating in the background, like above us.
And then we never did it again.
You got to end on a high note.
We didn't do it for years and years.
And then we had a picture.
One of my friends got us like Buffalo print robes,
including ones for the dog and the cat at the time.
So we had a picture in front of the Christmas tree,
so it was really easy.
But I did the thing where I called out all of our ages.
And so that got a lot of laughs.
That's funny.
We did send another one out.
We had a picture of me holding my husband.
been in my arms at a wedding.
So I'm in a dress.
I know, generally, you don't want to see that.
And then I have my husband.
I already just in my arms.
And we took a series of those photos.
And that was the next one.
And then last year, I was entirely too busy, so it didn't happen.
Yeah.
I haven't done it in years.
We had one really good, funny one.
Then it was like all my energy.
That was it.
I mean, okay, I'm pretty good at keeping up with stuff on, in this course.
and on IG and whatever, but I'm really bad about posting stuff of my family or anything for my
actual other family that wants to like see my family. So I do try to be like, oh, hey, by the way,
this is what happened this year. This is us. Here's a picture. And that's pretty much it.
That's all they get. So I do try, but it's it's lived through the cracks a few years.
I think a lot of them just like having a good picture.
Like,
yeah,
every few years we did family pictures done.
We're supposed to get them done this coming weekend.
It's been a few years.
But like,
usually we're just kind of cobbling something together with like the tripod and like the clicker,
you know,
to try to like take a picture of ourselves.
I have done cards every year since our son was born because I,
I just,
I feel kind of like obligated to.
I don't know.
my sisters and my cousins and everyone local to me, like, they all set cards to each other,
so I feel kind of that pressure.
But, like, we also, we're very, like, cognizant of, like, we have not had any, like,
gym stickers.
Like, the stickers are such a huge thing with the crew right now.
But, like, instead of, that's what it is for me, I guess, instead of doing the gym logo stickers,
whatever, we're doing the Christmas cards and then say, like, you know, you're really on the list.
The nice list of people who get.
I have two of your cards and.
Katie's card stuck on my bulletin board and my gym. I need to get some more funny ones for the gym.
I was just saying, I thought I sent you my gym stickers with a Christmas card in a month that was not December because it was the only animal I could find it.
You did. And so I just looked out that I got one of the Christmas cards.
Oh, gosh. Good. They've been sitting on my desk.
Yes. Paul.
Outstanding.
I, oh my God, you know those like awkward family photo things that people are doing at like J.C. Pennies?
Oh, yeah.
We should do a chip photo shoot and do like the calendar that they made at Massnomics.
That's a good idea, actually.
Well, you're going to take this off line.
No, no spoilers.
We still have time before December hits.
Maybe we can get a full 12-month calendar of these chips.
I really do think that we could.
We should.
I'm not going to say it.
I'm going to write it down.
Did I say too much already?
Probably.
Oh, my God.
I just totally had a thought.
Okay.
I read it down or else I would completely forget.
Okay.
Well, we, okay, that was awesome.
Thanks.
Thanks people for listening to our ramblings of what we've been up to.
And that was just the intro.
We have answered your questions in one hour, I think.
That was like our 45-minute intro, just so you know.
All right.
Well, before we get to some questions,
we do have some things that we want the guys to hear about things that are just
these damn bees that are in our bonnet.
And one of them that continually comes up is just women's clothing.
And it doesn't have to be, it could be gym clothing, it could be just dress clothes, whatever it is.
I want to hear your gripes.
And I'll try to keep this kind of in some sort of order where we're not talking over each other.
But big Katie, what's your main gripe with the way women's clothes fit?
Apparently, we're not supposed to have shoulders.
So I have to choose between my arms fitting in my shirts, especially.
for work or looking like a pillowcase.
I'm very good at tucking a lot of shirt into the back of my pants because it is large there
so I can get my stupid arms in it.
But apparently we're not supposed to have arm muscles.
Apparently we're also not supposed to have calves because I have pants that don't fit
my calves, boots that don't fit my calves.
So that's another problem.
That's because you're so fucking strong.
My husband will tell you I have large calves because I was once quite overweight.
And I don't think he's wrong.
I was going to say I've never got my calves into any of the boots that are supposed to be higher towards the knee.
They have dad caps.
Apparently.
You'll never see them.
I definitely have my dad cabs.
Oh, my God.
Generally, what's your biggest be in your body?
I don't think I dress like a woman enough to have any.
I'm good over here.
I don't think I've ever related to generally more than after that statement.
I'm just T-shirts and T-shirts and T-shirts.
That's so true, though.
It is so true.
And I can wear all that wherever I'm going, whether it's to work or whatever I'm
doing. I'm good.
No dress color.
That's nice.
Hannah.
Picking backing off of what Katie said, I think it feels like only one part of everything is supposed
to fit you.
Like if you're trying to put a shirt on, the arms and the shoulders aren't going to fit,
if you got pants on, it's either the calves that don't fit or the waist is 14 times
bigger than the part that your legs go into.
it. Even if you get a bigger size, the legs stay the same size with the waist for whatever
reason got even bigger, even underwear. You try to go up with size and underwear so you're not
slipping out the front of it and it just gets taller. Like that's not the part of that. That was the
problem. And even shoes aren't even the right size half the time. Like I can't even just go
and be like, I know that I can get this when I walk in here because then I had to stuff it in.
You know, all of a sudden it's too small. Then I go to a different store.
and I'll get the same size and it's just flying around.
What are we stuffing in?
My big, my huge, huge size seven feet.
Oh, baby feet.
Just like your hands.
Yeah.
But like nothing fits.
And then you try to put a sports bra on and it either covers your boobs or it doesn't.
And then again, it's like the front part doesn't stay the same size.
It'll just get like a little looser.
so now you're just hanging there and it's still not really covering that much.
That it's like one part of everything fits right.
And that's about it.
I'm not sure who these models are that are for the sizing here.
But anyway, I clearly haven't thought about it ever.
But then you go to get recommendations from someone that they don't have your body type.
So it's not your recommendations will mean anything.
I love this and it's like
okay well we look
as different as you could
so thanks
keep that in mind
yes
I've seen like
lady rants about this before
like in about sports bras
and I thought
that surely we all had the same thought
of the fucking little like
nipple cover insert thingies
that I just take them out in trash
immediately
yeah
no no no no you just let them fall out in the dryer
and then you throw them away
and then others were like
like, no, I need those. And I'm like, for fucking what?
Like, I don't. You know what?
I don't tell you.
Legitimately one third of your boob.
And then they're weird?
Like, I don't.
Sandbags and log and keg, all that stuff.
Now I have to leave the pads in there for that.
Is that because of...
Did they stay put though?
Generally.
Is there some extra hardware?
Yeah, I would put two of them in there.
That's exactly why.
You'd have to sew them that they can't move around because otherwise they're...
But then just make the bra padded.
Yeah.
Just stop putting inserts in it.
Just make it padded.
And then you either going to buy a padded bra or you're not.
Yes.
That's the one where it's sewn in place.
So we can buy the one that stays put and then the one that doesn't.
Right.
Like if the whole thing had a little layer, fine.
But just don't make it.
That would be perfect.
Why do you have to leave?
I'm putting the stupid thing back in exactly where I need it every time.
I had a sports bra one time.
I don't remember where I got it from.
It was actually hard.
Like I hit it and it felt like it was like a pillow strap to my chest.
And I was like, this is great.
I'm sure I need this sometimes.
That's what I do.
And then every other time you can just, you know, something a little less structured.
Wait, so it was like a jock strap?
No.
I'm saying that in my way because I do need.
There was so much
There was so much padding in there.
Yeah.
Oh, that's an idea.
It was just, it would like stand up on its own if I would just set it on the ground.
Like it was starched.
They made, I think it was called the Chesty.
It was like marketed to CrossFit.
So if you power cleaned into your collar bones, it would hit the top of the bra.
So that was a thing for a while.
I like that.
I just let my collar bones get bruised.
Yeah, I like bruises.
I get like rash from the log if I'm,
wearing like a tank top. I always got to make sure I have a shirt on. Oh gosh. Jess.
Do you have any? What else could I possibly add? You know? I know. I echo everything about the
the very useless foam pads in the bras. I usually, I'm in team just throw them away and I have like special
like nipple covers I guess that are like reusable. But like I just stick in like all of my bras. But I also use them for
swim. So I guess this is my next point.
Swimsuits now,
not nearly enough coverage.
These are not really made for the full bush lifestyle.
Amen, sister.
Can we go like the nipple covers?
When are you covering the nips?
Have I not been covered?
What are I need to be covered?
I'm sorry I'm watching, Katie.
I'm going to go in defense for some of the people's.
Okay, I usually take mine out too, but here's what I work.
And this is for the men to hear, but I worked in a very male field, which Katie, I know you do as well,
but I worked in a very male field for a very long time.
I still, to this day, and I'm not even close to working in that field anymore.
But so to this day, I cover up almost everything at work because of just how sexualized you were.
So if I got cold at work, I'm going to guarantee that I had fucking pods in my bra because if my nips were out, I would get comments.
And I didn't know.
And I, at the time, like, I'm a 21-year-old girl.
And these fucking old men are, like, saying shit about your nips or whatever.
So that's why you wear your nip.
your nip covers.
Because men are sometimes, not all men, I'm not generalizing.
Some men are just not nice.
Should we go the other direction and buy that bra that they were selling that made it
look like you had fake nipple tears so that it was always sticking through your shirt?
There you go.
You know a man, you know a man did that one.
Wasn't it a Kardashian actually?
I don't know, probably.
That's stolen valor to people that really got their nipples pierced.
See, that's real thing right there.
What if that bra is so thin that, like, it has the artificial nipple,
but then, like, your actual nipples are, like, crops on.
If I got cold enough, I could make that happen.
Right.
I can't wait for Keith or Nate to get back to that chat.
And all I heard was nipples.
I will say, though, I guess there are a lot more women that are recognizing some of these things.
So some of the clothes are getting, you have the opportunity now to maybe purchase things that are better for women,
but it's still few and far between, which really stinks.
So I guess what I hear is, and we have one lady right across the street,
but just find, just get clothes that, like Hannah said, they're just too,
big, to be honest, and then you bring it to your seamtrust and you'd be like, make this fit me.
And that's, I mean, you might have to spend 20 bucks to get a little bit of whatever taken in.
But that's what we have to deal with, unfortunately, because everybody is different.
I'm like, be in the bonnet that, okay, everyone is wearing a T-shirt except for me.
I'm still in a dress from work, but dresses.
Everyone is like, oh, we'll make them for women.
women love fucking pockets in their dresses.
So now they're adding pockets into all these dresses.
And they're putting them on the very ends of the hips.
So you put some pockets that just make you look like four inches wider.
And you're like, no, that's what we want.
Also, you can't put anything in it.
It's heavy.
Anything is so heavy.
It just like drags it down.
And then it's just swinging around loose under your dress.
You can put a whole fucking gallon of milk and your phone.
I'm like, right on your hips.
I hate all of those.
Anyways, I do enjoy a pocket and a dress,
but it has to be like properly,
you know,
tailored and put in correctly.
There's some shit.
Anyway.
Oh, my God.
Okay.
All right.
Well, we already vitched about bad strong men promoters.
So we'll just gloss over that one because everybody knows.
We know we know one.
We know his name.
You're going to do something dumb.
This only thing I'll say.
At least put it in.
the freaking rules like on iron podium or I don't know maybe when we're there having the rules meeting
that morning and you're explaining how every single event is going to go be like hey by the way
I chose to do something that's kind of insane hope you guys are okay with that surprise that you're
going to have to just deal with in 20 minutes when this thing starts it's so true one thing that I
go ahead and I think a lot of them get wrong is they're just they're so bad at judging what the women's
weights should be, especially for local shows like your show that Farmers was heavy with or without
the handles compared to some other things. Like you were all, you were picking more than the deadlift for
reps, which yeah, it's also like it would diskewed because like I'm looking at a local contest run by
someone I know and I'm going to tell him this, but like by his press weights, I want to do the super
heavy weight class because my actual weight class is kind of ridiculously light. But then there's a 300 pound
sandbag for super heavyweight women, which
possible, right?
But I'm not picking that up. So it's like
I usually
at this point now just pick my weight class
based on what's a challenge, but it's
so inconsistent across these local
shows.
By the way, our circus
dumbbell for me anyway,
was a 45-pound
regular dumbbell.
I thought that was a challenge,
I guess, for someone of
my size that I would, you know.
But please tell me why.
Why you were using just a regular tempo?
We all learned ours up.
Let's say hypothetically, someone that really likes Jennelly and I offered to the strongman
promoter, hey, I have one you can use or Jenilee has one.
We have one.
Do you want to use it for?
the cop. And he's like,
eh, no.
There's some
people I know that might
show up and they've
never used it before. So that's not fair.
By the way, signups had
already closed.
Oh, jeesh. The signups for the meet were closed.
They had not
sign up. We did sign up and we could have used
it. Yeah. I think that's, even
that day, like you could have just
that day let us
use it. I don't, I don't understand. Yeah, 45 pound of regular rogue dumbbell.
I mean, it went up pretty easy, so good job. I hope so. Oh, God, could you imagine?
I'm like, um, oops. I probably would have just left after that. Yeah, I'm getting in the car
grease and by. Jake had me strict pressing 40s. If I missed out on a 45 pound where I could jump
with it, I think I'd probably have to go home.
That's how I felt after that long, you guys.
I do like that Jake is doing like the shot clock rule.
And he does the, like, let us pick when we left it like, kind of choose your own adventure.
And I've been chatting with some of the local people and they like that too where at least then you're giving the opportunity to get a point instead of zeroing out of a full event.
I hope that more promoters will start thinking that way.
Like the one that's coming up for me, there's no way I'm going to get the log, but it's second.
And so I wish, at least I can get a point, but I wish I could actually go for the third thing too.
Kind of like generally you wanted to go for the Hustafel and you just didn't get the opportunity.
So I would love if more thought of it that way, just because I think that's probably like gatekeeping a lot of other women from coming to
wrong man because they'll see something that, oh, I can't even get a point. And that's,
like what Katie was saying then, just picking weights badly for a weight class is probably the
biggest deterrent, I think, of people wanting to do it. Yeah. So we got to think of a way that we can
be better, better about it. So, or Trump weights. There's always a Trump weight where you have a
light and a heavy and you might get a half point. You might, whatever it is. I don't know. But I want,
I want more ladies to do it and not be scared, so we can start thinking about those things.
We got to get Jake out like, Jake out in the masses so you can start spreading the good word.
Who wrote, pleat your chairs when they don't fit?
Because I want to care about this.
Yeah, this isn't lifting related or anything but athletics.
It's not on your ass.
We like to sit on your ass and work out.
A lot of the comps we go to are in tiny gyms.
And a lot of times when you put that chair in there, it takes up both rows.
So you're the asshole if you're doing that at that point because there's not enough seats for everybody in that gym.
So you go and you're like trying to go behind the person with the bleacher chair, you can't sit there because they're now taking up the robe.
behind them. Yeah, that's it. That's your...
I thought you were going to complain that ass too juicy,
ass too fat that you would fit in the bleach your chairs. That's what I thought that.
No. That's what I was thinking in. I was like, hell ofia. And then
picking up two rows. But God damn, it's... I'm going to take a picture. Like, I could
probably do it on Saturday. It's ridiculous.
But, man, I need that damn chair. I hear you. But, you know,
then maybe you have to take it.
it to the top.
Yeah.
It probably depends on where you're going, obviously.
But yeah, I can't hardly sit on my tailbones or my, what are the butt bones are.
These are like high school gyms and we have like maybe 30 teams showing up for one competition.
Well, the gyms are designed for what to do basketball teams.
Yeah, for sure.
It's not, it's like there's not enough seating and I'm like,
I can't believe nobody else had that happen.
Well, I'm usually the one with the seat.
Yeah.
Also, though, I'm not, I never inside.
There's always outside and it's usually I'm more space.
There's probably still room in that one for someone to sit behind you.
Yes, there's always extra room.
What I didn't like, though, is that people go and it's like you're going to a freaking concert or something that you're
waiting in line for and they go at like seven in the morning and put their freaking chairs out so
they can get the best seat. The thing doesn't even start until seven at night. I'm like, what,
what are we doing here? This is high school. What are we doing? Oh, my gosh. All right. Okay.
I think we have we have chatted for an hour. We're finally to our title topic.
I'm trying to be Tanner here. So for all you people, timestamp people,
Just get the fuck out.
We wanted that small talk before.
All right.
So we're going to go to, thank you to everybody that submitted questions.
We're going to try to get to as many as we can.
If we don't get to yours, I apologize.
I'll answer them.
I'll send them to the group and we'll answer them one way or another.
All right.
So we're going to just get started.
And we're going to try to keep it kind.
And not everybody's going to have to answer
every question. Unless it gets spirited, we'll see how it goes. We might make it through
five. We might make it through Johnny. We'll see. All right. Well, we're going to get started here.
All right. Who are your favorite people to look up to in Strength World and who currently are you
looking up to? So we're going to kind of keep this going in order. So Katie, I'll start with you.
I've always kind of followed like Maddie Rogers, Mary Tyson Lapin.
Mary Tyson Lapin is actually younger than me also through a couple,
and actually also from Wisconsin.
But really a lot of just what I like to see.
And I like following like Jen and generally and people who started later in life
and kept started in strength sports.
And I think that's really cool.
It's just normal people out there doing it.
Like there's a local girl.
who I like following because she's strong as shit and we're in the same weight class
and I will, I tied her once.
It will never happen again.
So that's really what I like.
I follow a couple other folks in my weight class, but that's pretty much it.
What about you, Jenny?
Yeah, I won't list anyone specific.
I think it's just that you have to keep that line between watching people who are much stronger
than you, keeping those people around you, but also kind of fine-tuning your feed so that
it's not just elite, elite, elite, and then you're failing.
Yeah. Yeah, just somewhere in the middle.
That's a good sentiment. Yeah. What about you, Murf?
Sorry, setting my lineup.
That's important.
like I was like
oh it's at 825 it's 815
um
um
I mean I follow tons of people
that I never interact with
I feel like I do less of that now
um
I've just sort of been like letting go
I'm like I don't know
if I don't love their content that much
then I sort of been not following as much
because a lot of shit that's like really gimmicky
or just like repetitive or like
I've seen 40 takes on like the same thing
And I'm like, yeah, it's boring.
I thought it was kind of interesting for the first four.
And now I'm like, okay, I don't really care.
It's annoying at this point.
You're like a week behind.
So I don't necessarily like get motivated from like the big famous people that are like the strongest or doing the coolest shit.
So yeah, I like finding people who are more local or like people that like I've met at a meet or like watch them.
I'm going to a strong name competition in like a month to watch a different friend.
She's competing.
And like I look up on the roster because she shared it.
And I was like, oh, I recognize one of these names.
And I saw her at a powerlifting need a while back.
So I was like, oh, shit, I have to like go find her.
So I like hadn't seen her page in a long time.
But I was like, oh, she switched over to strongman.
Because like it's what all the cool kids do.
And so it was really cool.
So like that was really fun to see.
So yeah, I agree with, like, people who are just living their normal lives and then also
lifting.
It's fun.
That's awesome.
Hannah, I skipped over you.
I don't know why.
That's fine.
I can't read.
I'm not a good sports fan in the sense that I don't really care about actually watching.
And this goes for anything, just like straight sport-related.
I don't really like watching it.
Oh, I like watching, like, highlight reels and, like, records being broken, like, all the fun stuff
like that.
Otherwise, I kind of don't really care.
unless I know you.
Like going to the Lift Hardly Leazy or like a local me or whatever is so fun because I know
you and I want you specifically to do good because I like you.
I don't really care that much to watch like strangers do it unless it's like an incredible
feat of whatever.
But just generally speaking, I do like just seeing how many like women specifically
are online trying stuff for the first time at 30, 40, 40.
whatever because of the, you know,
whole bone density thing.
It's good for, you know, like everything.
You don't want to be a fragile old woman that, you know,
kicks the bucket because you tripped and fell once and you just can't recover type thing.
You know, like that I like that a lot of people are realizing that it's kind of like an,
oh shit, I probably should be doing this.
And then they start doing it and they're like, this kind of fucks and this is awesome.
and this is like a lot of fun.
You know, I like seeing that, but otherwise I'm not much of a good sports spectator when it comes to most of this.
Yeah, I get it.
I like it.
What about you, Jess?
Kind of like ditto to what everyone else said.
I mostly like to watch people that I know.
But I do sprinkle in a few women who also like lift in equipment in single ply or multiply.
Because it feels more, you know, slightly more relevant to my training.
We have one local woman, Alicia Childress, who competes nationally and is a really badass lifter.
And she lives, you know, really close.
So I like watching her and people kind of like like that, like the local equipped lifters.
But mostly I just like to follow people that I know like all of you guys.
Yeah.
I think I'm with all you guys as well.
I, for the most part, if I follow someone that's quote unquote famous, it's mostly because the content that they're putting out
there is very educational in a way where I am struggling with how to lift a certain lift.
And so you get an idea from them showing you how to do it.
And then I'm like, oh, I'm going to go try that.
And you try it their way and then maybe that works for you.
So it's more like a tutorial thing for me is the ones that I follow.
But honestly, I know we were chatting about it earlier, but I block a lot of bots and things that I just don't want to
see because I'm really striving to see the people that I know like you guys.
And I want them to show up more in my feed.
So I'm like super block everybody.
So eventually I've blocked the entire world except for my friends.
I think I went in like, you can favorite account.
I think I did that.
Yep.
Yeah.
Yeah.
So mine are mostly for education if I'm, if I'm falling somebody.
Oh, good, good start.
And down.
Was there, well, we're going to, I'm going to, I'm going to mix it up sometimes.
We're not always, just doesn't always have to go last and stuff.
So we'll start with just this time.
Was there anybody?
Okay.
Okay, we won't.
I need to think of what a rule says.
Okay.
Okay.
We won't do that.
Okay.
Okay.
Okay.
Okay.
Now my brain can't like start in the middle and keep going.
Okay, okay, I'm going to start with Hannah this time.
All right.
So Hannah, was there anybody that actually inspired you to start lifting?
Nope.
I did start lifting in high school for Polvault.
I was hashtag dedicated and getting up and lifting with my coach before school
and then having regular practice afterwards because as I'm sure everybody knows,
high school sports still don't really prioritize lifting in any way, let alone in season.
And so I started it for pole vault because you kind of have to be strong to do that.
And so I added like 10 pounds of solid mass before my sophomore year.
And that was really the only thing that like wanted or made me want to be lifting.
and then I got hurt a lot and I spent a lot of time not lifting again.
And then Grayson did not make me, but when we started dating, he was going.
And he obviously has known the Mastonomics guys this whole time he lifted at the original gym.
He had a lot of friends and obviously enjoyed it a lot that I think it took like probably almost a year.
of us into dating, I think before I even started going to the gym with him.
And then obviously getting to lift at the massonomics gym back in the day was so fun and exciting.
And, you know, I obviously was there for the OG strongman meets.
And it obviously was really fun and entertaining.
And I just have been chasing that high ever since, I guess.
It's just a personal thing that unfortunately they're right about exercise,
making you feel better.
And so I have to keep doing it.
And it also just kind of happens to be fun.
So that's valid.
So you're going to the gym with Grayson?
Was that before after he had to unclog the toilet when you should in it?
After.
Yes.
That was like the first check in our dating was like two weeks after we started dating.
And then I decided to wait a year before I started going to the gym with him.
I really had to work for it, I guess.
Let them know who you are.
Yes.
Full bush, big sheds.
Murf, just start thinking.
Murph, is there anybody that inspired you to start lifting?
Well, I also lifted in high school and college.
Like, I played softball.
So it was like a requirement from the coach to do that.
But it wasn't like, I don't know,
was like a couple of exercises three by ten or whatever so wasn't anything serious um i didn't
really get started doing anything serious about with lifting um i like fucked around with various
gym uh like weight loss stuff for years off and on and then in 2019 my gnats won the
world series and i had been like going hard on like going to game and i'm like going to game
going to the bar, watching every game, like doing it all.
Nachos, beer, whiskey, like, all the time.
So I called it my post-post-season diet to, like, get started on, like, being more serious about my health
and started lifting more and, like, going to the gym consistently and signed up for a powerlifting class on, like, Groupon.
When Groupon was a thing.
And I went to one class.
and then we had to shut down for COVID.
So then I like ordered everything and started deadlifting in my alley.
I was already hooked.
I love that you started with Group 1.
Yeah.
Your lifting career started with Group 1.
That's amazing.
Basically.
Jess, was there anybody that inspired you?
I don't think inspired is the right word.
I kind of, I find myself in the gym to continue to be a menace.
and give my husband a hard time.
He lifted for years before I started, and I just wanted to have more quality time together as a family.
So then truly, like, I'm not, I feel like a little bit of imposter syndrome because I don't truly have that love for lifting.
So I don't know that anyone really motivates me other than like 2000s America's next top model diet culture that.
constantly just convinces every woman in our age range that, you know, you will never be skinny enough.
Like, if anything motivates me to get in the gym, that's probably it, which is kind of sad.
So, all right, next.
Good transition.
I guess for me, I didn't have a specific person either, so I just kind of fell into it.
I went from a factory job to a sit-down job and quickly realized, I can't eat.
the way I was eating before and I got to do something. So I started just going to a gym and not really
knowing what I was doing. So I signed up for a class. It wasn't a coupon, but it was a class and
quickly realized that I was, in my town anyway, was lifting the heaviest thing that they were
offering to lift. And I'm like, and people would say stuff, women would say stuff about,
you're trying too hard or whatever. So I said, screw this. I'm leaving. And I started trying to
figure out my own thing. And it was really just me. I really like this. And I want to keep going.
And so, and then starting to meet people at the gym that actually cared and kind of separated
themselves from the class people. Yeah. And then it just kind of, I don't know, I fell into
Masonomics and all this stuff. And next thing I know, I know all these people and these women and
strong men. And it's just been been great since then. And on that, like a lot of people talk about the
community part and I didn't have that at all in the beginning because I started lifting like by
myself and then like during COVID it was like very alone like gyms were not open here um so it was a very
solo activity and like I continued it but like it really helped with my health and migraines and
like all of the stuff all the good perks so massanomics and like career was kind of like my
and like creating an Instagram lifting account was like how I met other lifters
very weird. Like, I've never had a gym that I went to and, like, knew the people at the gym.
That wasn't a thing. So, like, it's, it's a very weird online community of, like, you guys are my gym posts.
My first people were, I mean, I was probably 40 at the time. Or maybe 10 years ago or so many late 30s.
But my, my gym buddies were, like, three dudes that lifted heavy and they were in their 50.
like closer to their 50s.
I'm like, well, these are my people now, I guess.
You love this one gym in Sioux Falls.
That's only four women.
And there is nary a singular set of 45 pound plates in that whole place, if you're wondering.
I hope you mean there's 50s.
Nope.
They have a couple colorful 35 pound plates and not a single, singular or a pair.
of 45 pound plates to be found.
I mean,
that's where all the 35s went to die.
They must have got a good deal.
That's awesome.
Ginly, I feel like I kind of know,
but I want to hear you.
There was no option.
Jonathan ordered the PRX rack
and a couple of rogue barbells.
And that was just,
this is what we're,
doing with this third stall. So that was all on him. And when we went out there, it was always just
everyone, you know, the kids came with. And so 10 years of that until now where they don't really
come out there with us anymore. So hopefully they will, though. I think so. Yes, it's coming back
around. Katie, was there, I can't, maybe I kind of know your story too, but was there someone that
inspired you? Well, so my dad got big into lifting and bodybuilding starting in college. He actually
did a bodybuilding, like a show in the 80s. So I actually grew up with gym equipment in my basement
for a while. He later switched careers and was a personal trainer for a while. So like I was just
around it. And it's like, okay, well, if dad's going to do it, I want to do it. So I mean, I played around
on the gym equipment in the basement from, I mean, before high school.
It didn't stunt my growth.
I was never going to be tall.
So no concerns there.
But then, so like I lifted all through high school sports, you know, throwers in the
weight room on Saturday morning.
There were donuts involved.
And then when I went to college, my coach, my throws coach in college, it's actually
been like a national strength and conditioning athlete of the year in the 90s.
So like she was a big proponent of it.
So I lifted through college too and then I had a lull.
I traveled for work for a while and kind of like Merv's post-postseason diet.
At some point I needed to get my shit together because you can't eat bar hamburgers and drink six beers every night.
But always we could.
I mean, I can't physically do it.
But so I got back into lifting.
I started.
I just, I had enough knowledge.
I kind of wrote a basic program after what I did at college.
and then I picked up on like some other templates and stuff online and that continued to evolve.
But I was like the weirdo at the YMCA trying to do Olympic lifts with those heck those 12-sided plates that rolled around and not drop anything because there's no bumpers.
Or when you do find the bumpers, it's like the one day they magically appear.
So then COVID happened.
We did circuit training in the basement for a while.
My husband lives too.
And then it got to a point where I was like, all right, this shit isn't cutting it.
we can't get by with a pair of dumbbells and a couple other things.
And I gave up my parking spot.
There you go.
Anybody ever get that wee?
You know, speaking of early 2000.
Yes.
Bowling.
It was real good at me.
But when you get, if you got the little aerobics piece and it would be like,
you are so unbelievably overweight.
Do you remember that?
Oh, yes.
It was definitely calibrated around because it told like 7 million people that they were dead to be able.
I wish I could remember what it actually said when it was telling you how fat you were.
Oh my God.
I remember.
I'm going to have to look that up.
Like my sister's friend got it like when I don't remember I was staying over there or something.
But we stayed up probably until like three in the morning just playing baseball, golf, whatever.
And we were all sore as shit the next day.
It was really intense, but I think I killed it with bowling.
I think bowling is what gave me the win.
Okay.
I'm going to keep it rolling here.
So we have a question.
Should Massanomics make female specific clothing?
If so, what?
So.
I'm good as is.
I'm not.
Do not make female cut t-shirts.
Uh-uh.
Yeah.
No.
I hate that.
A little cut t-shirt means that it's going to, like, come to your belly button?
It's slimming.
I just want some shorter in-seem shorts that don't weigh a million pounds, so just bring back some silky's.
Yes.
Yeah.
Yes.
Not great joggers would be cool.
Oh, I liked great joggers.
Oh, okay.
Some of us are sweaty.
I have like a beef.
Like I hate, it's like the old man joggers.
I'm like, I don't want to.
I feel like the colors have gotten a lot better too.
The range of colors has been for everyone, you know, but it's not just black and red.
Yes.
I'm like, what are we going to make sports bras?
Like, what are we?
Like, I don't want a women's cut of a shirt.
And it would, I, so logic.
So I tried to think about this question because obviously Tanner
sent this one.
Some booty shorts, they would sell with the men
too, I guarantee it. Like,
Lift Evil did sports bras and booty
shorts for a bit.
Smaller socks?
I would buy a pair of socks
if they weren't so big on my little toddler
feet. I did.
So I did, I really thought about this one.
So I have told Tanner many
of times before, before a lot,
now we got, have a little bit bigger crew of women
but before I would send them notes like,
I'd send him pictures and show them like the heel of the sock like half of my calf.
Like just shit like that and be like, but I get it.
If it's like 0.001% of the of their buying people.
But so I really tried to, I really wanted to give them a good answer.
So no, I want the shirts to be men shirts.
If I need it altered, I'll alter it myself.
Yes, would it be nice to have like a pair of shorts that fit us?
better sure. Like we would love
have the shorts, but I don't
racer back tank.
That's the only thing I think of.
That would be a good one.
That would be a good one.
But I'm like, wouldn't the men wear that anyways?
Right.
But I like the tanks that do have the racer back
and they're kind of a little bit flowy.
They're almost corrupt. I don't know how to explain it.
But that's like the one woman thing that I could think of
that would probably sell good if they had a cool saying on it or
whatever it was. And then that's all the white would get one. I hate the tanks that I have so far
because the armhole is too big. Yes. There's different way. The comfort color silly goose one. The arm
holes are too small. Maybe I need to finally get not a small size. I haven't I don't I just don't
like the ones that are like full shoulder. They feel like they're coming down. I don't want to
long here. That's where your nipple covers come in handy, Jess. And it's,
You're not sliding out of the tank top.
She's thinking.
So there you go, Tanner.
A different kind of tank top.
Race your back tank top is about the only thing that we could think of.
Just keep doing what you're doing.
It's fine.
And small socks.
I'm going to, I'm going to pick and choose, and we can always come back.
So I want to run out of time.
But some of these.
Okay, this is a good one.
Does your family get
crew or do they think that
think that it's weird?
Let's start with
I'm going to see you on my screen.
Ginalee.
Obviously not.
Oh.
I don't see Jenner.
Do you say something to me?
Yes.
I switched my headphones.
What did you say?
I was like, I'm like, okay,
okay, we pretty have answered it for you.
Your family gets.
crew, right?
Yeah, I think so.
Is there anybody in your family that doesn't or think that it's weird?
No.
What do the kids think?
They're like, oh, you guys are always on that discord.
That's it, yeah.
I think just having come to two of them now and watch, they kind of understand what's
happening.
Yeah.
Hannah, I probably know your answer too.
Well, obviously, since, you know, there's a Phillips takeover happening in the Discord, obviously the general consensus is that they get it.
But it's more like any, no one else, I'm like the first of my bloodline to touch a weight, you know.
And so like they kind of just don't really care because they don't care about that either, you know?
So they're just like, it's not that big of a deal.
It's not that important.
Like, okay, sure, that's weird that you guys are planning to be.
meet up twice a year, just to lift.
Yeah.
Yeah, exactly.
And we can't wait, to be honest.
Jess, does anybody in your family think it's weird?
Yeah.
Yes, everyone.
I mean, obviously, my household, the three of us that live here is fine.
But, like, I don't think my family can really kind of comprehend even having friends
on the internet or, like, working out for fun.
or anything like that.
So they also kind of just don't really give a shit.
But that's okay.
I got you guys.
Katie.
Well, we kind of took a family vacation to South Dakota this year because my brother-in-law joined crew.
So he was a little skeptical for a while.
And I think after I talked to him after coming out last year, that kind of changed him.
His mind on joining and stuff.
And I think my sister puts up with it.
My dad thinks it's fun because he just thinks that,
sports being a little more mainstream is fun.
My husband always finds, you know, he comes out and he's, oh, he likes this shirt and that
shirt.
And then, but I mean, on the ride, when we were leaving on Sunday, there was a comment about,
you know, I could kind of see why people might call that a cult.
Obviously.
I think it's a mixed bag.
Outside of that immediate family, it's just like, oh, you went and did a lifting competition
in South Dakota.
and it's like, oh, you have internet lifting friends.
Okay, whatever.
Yeah.
What about you, Murph?
I think for my family, family, I think I think everything I do is weird.
So I don't even think they know, like, a lot of the details of it.
But they're like, oh, you're going to go lift in South Dakota.
Like, all right.
Not the weirdest thing that they've heard.
And then my boyfriend, I think early on, he was like, Jesus, like another.
package from South Town.
And now, like, that I've gone out or like that he's heard more.
Like, he does, like, know some names.
So it'll be very weird.
Like when I'll mention someone, I'll be like, oh, isn't that?
I'm like, yes.
We have talked about them multiple times.
Nice.
Well, I like that he's learning.
Yeah, well, so I said something about, well, and he met some because he came up to the
Highland competition.
a couple years ago when I went up.
So, like, he met, like, Big Eddie and a couple others.
But when I told him, I went up and I was like, oh, yeah, I'm like, some of the people you knew were there.
I was like, oh, and I was, like, hanging out with some of the ladies.
Like, I was with Big Jess and Big Jam.
And he was like, oh, Jen, isn't that the one from Iowa?
And I was like, different one.
I was like, oh, you remember.
So, no, it's the less culty of, like, the groups that I'm in.
Yeah.
Just tell him that's another.
LARP thing.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Oh, you have a different name.
Yeah.
Yeah.
I would say
like obviously
Sean gets it,
but he doesn't really
care.
He likes the part.
Obviously,
we went out to see
Jess and Matt and
Keith and the whole
gang,
Chris Mark and stuff.
And he likes that part
when it's a little bit
more intimate because he is
he's less outgoing, I guess. I mean, I'm not super outgoing, but he's much less. So it's nice for him to be around the smaller groups. So that's been cool. And my parents have been to, I've been to all four Lvtar and Lovesey, but my parents have also been to all four Lvtar and LiveEasies. So they get it and they like, they think it's funny when people say Big Jen or yelling for Big Jin or call me crew mom or things like that. They think that's neat. And my dad actually did get
to meet Tanner and Shrikas Hand this year finally.
I introduced him, so that was kind of cool.
But outside of that, no, nobody gets it.
And honestly, I don't talk about it because I prefer not to even worry about it.
Okay, we're going to keep moving here.
I'm going to pick a couple of fun ones real quick, some quick hitter ones.
So what's your favorite chip?
I'm going to start this one because I thought about it.
I feel, first of all, I think there's an occasion for almost every chip.
But if I had to just like, I guess if I'm going to pick a favorite and I don't actually
buy these all the time or do whatever, but I freaking love frito scoops, especially if I can get
a frito scoop with like a really good French onion dip, sour cream dip. My God, that's like,
that's yummy. I just love how salty they are. That's, that's my favorite. What about you, Jess? I know,
You might be eating a chip right now for all I know.
I'm eating popcorn because it just felt right for the occasion.
But it feels like cheating to say I love a tortilla chip.
I feel like there's a lot of versatility there.
Well, you can dip it into anything.
And it's salty.
I just love the salt.
Yeah.
So I think I'm going to go with that.
What about you, Hannah?
Well, I had an entire tube of spicy loaded nacho pringles yesterday that I got at the gas station
on the way home. Oh yeah. Um, so that's a pretty good one. Except these keep me up at night.
I think it was when we lived in Watertown when we were going back to school. For one brief
moment in time, they had like a Wendy's spicy chicken sandwich flavored tube of Pringles.
So good. I've never seen them again. I might have made it up. I think. From what I think I remember,
they were the best things that I've ever had
and I think about them every day.
I feel like they're like Oreo
where they'll bring a flavor and you love it
and then it's gone because I think,
I don't remember if this is the current flavor
if I'm getting a mixed up,
but there was one where Sean and I loved it and it was a spicy,
it's either spicy guacamole or spicy.
I was just going to say the chip that got away from me.
Something like that.
It was probably like back in like, I'm going to say like 2010.
Yeah.
But there was macamole prinkles and like,
Wayfriend at the time was obsessed and like we saw them like on sale like going out of stock and we're like oh fuck we bought all up and we bought like 18 things of cringles and then once those were gone never been seen again never seen them again and every time I don't even eat crinkles I don't eat a lot of chips but if I see a real wrinkles and I see a green can I'm like no yeah just sour cream and onion sorry sorry
Katie, what's your favorite chip?
Fritos are for chili, not dipping, but I just generally don't like most dips.
We can dip it in your chili.
You just crunch it up.
It's cool ranch Doritos, I think.
Like, you got to have them if you're on a road trip.
They kind of go with most barbecue foods.
They're just kind of a classic.
I can't really keep chips in the house because they are my weakness.
Oh, we don't keep them around either.
Yeah, that would be bad news.
What about you, generally?
What's your favorite chip?
It's so funny because I thought you meant inside of a cookie.
I was like, so like, chocolate?
No, but I don't know.
There's this cracker that you can get at Target,
and it's like gluten-free.
Oh, she's still right.
Sorry.
And it's so good in hummus.
I can eat the whole box.
It's like farmhouse cheddar.
It's like simple mills.
That's what it's called.
Almond flour farmhouse cheddar.
They are so good.
But I'll just finish it or hummus or seven-layer taco, everything.
You know you're going to get shit because people are going to say,
that's not a chip.
That's a cracker.
I'll eat chips all day long.
I promise.
generally's answer is just yes
yes
yeah
yeah
we had the all dress
recently we had the all dress this summer
when we had all the crew out here
so
no
we found some pita chips
but their pretzels those slap
oh yeah
I just
Any crunchy thing.
Dots are so good.
Sometimes if I don't have that salty food in my life, I will just die.
Yep.
Definitely a salty, salty snack person.
All right, we're going to keep it going on the fun stuff.
What's your favorite cookie?
Jess, I'm starting with you this time.
God damn it.
I know.
It's tough to put the pressure on me.
I think I'm going to go ginger snap.
No real explanation there.
have to be like homemade.
Yeah.
I mean,
I won't discriminate.
I really will eat any cookie,
but if I had to pick a favorite,
I'm probably going ginger snap.
Yeah, cookies are good.
Katie.
It's a chocolate chip,
classic toolhouse recipe,
except I throw many M&Ms in
instead of something else.
Perfect.
Murf.
Oh, I don't know.
Not a huge.
I feel like a classic,
like a no-bake cookie
as like a.
Oh, man.
A little comfort for me.
Peanut butter, chocolate, oats.
Great.
Can I tell a quick story?
Our homeback teacher in high school could not keep us under wraps and keep us on curriculum or whatever.
So every damn day we went in there, we'd be like, can we make no bait cookies?
And we just make no bake cookies.
And it was in the morning.
And by lunchtime, they were solid enough that you could actually eat the no bake cookie.
and we'd run down there to get our cookies.
And now that I'm older, I feel like we were the meanest people ever to that poor Homek.
That little poor Homek teacher trying to teach us to cook and clean and all this stuff.
And then all we wanted to do was eat cookies.
Sorry.
You are why they got rid of Homek from school.
Probably.
We were just tears.
What about you, Jinnally?
Oreos.
Oh, double stuff.
Okay, I was going to say, you got to be more serious.
Is there double stuffing?
Yeah, absolutely.
How are you eating your Oreo?
I'd like to know.
Straight up.
Like, you take a bite.
I mean, you don't twist.
What do you mean?
I want to see your face.
Hurry up and stop doing every dwe.
So I can see your face.
Tell me how to turn the camera.
I don't know.
I have no idea how it turns the camera on.
Okay, well, you can see us.
Are you taking an Oreo and holding it like this and going,
or are you like twist it off and like eat?
No, I'm just eating it.
I'm just eating it.
Okay, am I the only weird one that like...
No, Jen, I don't get it.
If it's like a regular, if it's a double stuff,
there's probably a twisting situation.
Okay, good.
Yeah, okay.
When I was younger, when I was a child,
I used to twist it open, eat the white stuff, and put the outer part back in the package.
I'm going to leave back in the package.
Oh my God.
For someone, some poor unsuspecting soul to find just the shell, the empty husk of your Oriole that you left behind.
And with the lucky charms, I ate all, every single marshmallow out of the,
package and left the rest in the package.
She's a power moon.
She's diabolical.
I just want the good stuff.
Like now you can just buy the Lucky Charms
marshmals. Did you know that?
I did know that now.
Is that amazing?
Don't think I haven't.
That's groundbreaking.
Oh my God. There's so many questions that we haven't got you.
I don't know.
Like, why is my camera off?
We've probably covered tons of stuff that's like within those questions.
Yeah, that's really true.
I would say I'm kind of with you, Jess.
I like a molasses.
I do not discriminate out cookie.
I will, cookies and chips, man, you might as well just lock me in a room with those things.
But yeah, I like a spice cookie or like a, you know, like a ginger snap or something like that.
But I do like the soft ones too.
That's so good.
But I also, every year, almost fought Lincoln this year because he ate.
my tray foils or I don't know what they're called shortbread the girl scott ones the shortbread ones
I always get a couple of box and hide it away and then when I'm when I'm feeling like okay it's time I can just eat a
whole box of cookies or a whole sleeve I'll get it out I'll get my glass of milk and I'll dunk the whole
thing and eat like the whole box and he ate half my freaking trayfoils and I was I threw a fit and said where are my
fucking trayfoils.
And so, and then so
luckily, luckily Sean
got me another one, but that's like,
that's my one.
I had plans for them. Yeah.
That is my,
you have to sit down.
You got to like find the right mood.
You got to light a candle.
You got to.
The schedule and then we need for
trayful oil. It's romantic.
Shortbread's like
three ingredients. It's not that hard to make
at home. I do like a good
or bread cookie too.
It's not the same, though.
It's so boring.
Okay.
Okay, we're going to, okay, I'm going to stop asking everybody.
I'm just going to pick on people from now.
So that I feel like we're going to get through.
We're going to work on this.
Okay.
Okay, this is a good one.
We can start just saying, we don't have to elaborate.
We can just say these things.
Okay, would you rather have brownies baked in a nine by nine or nine by 13?
Jess.
Two boxes in a nine by 13
Oh so really
Double batch
So big fat ones you like
Yeah
Okay
Around the room
Hannah
Honestly I don't care
As long as there
We got like that crinkly top
What it looks like the Sahara
Yeah
That's all I want
That's what I need
Big fat ones
Crinkly top
A little bit raw
Yeah
Crunchy
Edge, raw on the middle.
Murph, Katie.
Genuinely, I don't care.
Whatever pan I have that's clean.
I don't care on the pan,
but I do want a mint frosting
and a chocolate canache on the top.
Oh, Jesus.
You're boozy.
Yes.
It's too much effort, but I respect it.
Right.
Our rolling chair,
are rolling office chairs better with four or five wheels?
So you sent us this one.
I don't think I've ever seen one with four.
Oh, mine have five.
You got to, maybe in the old days they had four, but those are too tippy.
You got to have five for sure.
For sure.
He agreed.
Physique-wise, what has lifting change for the better?
Okay, I'll actually pick someone or someone else.
Everything.
Yeah.
Big fat ass, big fat shoulders.
I agree. I love my traps.
Big bad tits. Everything. Everything gets bigger.
Wait, I didn't get the tits, memo.
Yeah, mine went away when I lost the weight.
I do like the way your shirts look with like your, when your shirts are a little bit tight.
Your traps are nice. And like, yes, your butt.
I physically, I look at a lot of people and I'm like, where's your butt at?
Like, you don't, you're like a potato with toothpicks sticking out of.
Like, where, where's the butt?
I don't get it.
So, yes.
Yeah, the idea of, like, looking like you lift.
Like, that was how I had a friend who someone I'm going to go watch do Strongman
because I saw her and was, like, helping her camp.
And I was like, where do you lift?
I was like, I know you lift.
And she was like, yeah, yeah.
She's like, what do you lift?
And she was like, I do Strongman.
I was like, I power lift, blah, blah.
And then we got to chatting because we were both, like, spotted each other.
Like, hey, I want to talk to her.
Yes. I love it.
Has lifting and the crew made you more outgoing?
Katie.
No, I don't think so.
I think the same level of outgoing.
Same all.
Yeah, consistent.
I'm always down for a silly goose time.
Yeah, I'm kind of just like this.
I still get, like, like after, now that, you know,
lift hardly busy is like turning into a whole week.
event. It still gets exhausting
by the end just because
Grayson and I, you know, not having
any kids, we have a lot
of alone time and a lot of quiet
no other people
time that it gets a little
tiring having to be around
that many people for that long, but
no, I'm kind of just like this.
Yep.
Just. Maybe like a little bit
more outgoing, but not
too much.
Generally, Iramorf.
Same.
Yeah.
Yeah, I'm the same too, I feel like.
I mean, it's opened up opportunities, obviously, that you have more connections and different things, but I'm not different.
In fact, I think that's why we're all good at crew or the crew's good is because we're all really are the same people that we are.
We're just congregating in one spot now.
Okay, this is a fun one.
I do want to hear everybody's answers.
If you had to fight yourself from 18 and every age until now, what age wins in a fight, a fight tournament?
I have so many questions.
No, you can't think about it.
You just got to go for it.
No, I definitely want to hear these questions.
Okay, go for it.
Like, do I still have all of the knowledge of what 18 years was capable of?
No, no, whatever you knew at 18, that person.
and if you learned something
Yeah, but versus me now.
You said versus me now.
Well, versus, so then you're saying
Nat, you is going to kick your 18-year-old self.
Nope.
Nope, no passage of knowledge.
I got to go back to like 16.
Like 16 on me was definitely.
I'm falling off the rancel.
I'm just going to beat the shit out of a teenager.
No, the 16-year-old me is going to beat the shit out of every other version of me.
I just like they do.
You're like, I just want to punch 16-year-old self.
Because how tough are you at 16?
You know everything.
Plus, you know, we had like Jarl Rul and Ludacris and Tubac and all those things telling us to go fight people.
It was a violent culture.
Yeah, that's what I'm going to.
I would have fought all kinds of people at 16.
But you're fighting yourself.
So your 16-year-old self is going to beat up yourself right now.
Yes, definitely.
I can't fight right now.
Look at me.
My back hurts.
I'm a much nicer person.
My back hurts.
You've got to take my bag peels.
I can't fight a 16-year-old.
I want to.
I mean, I would like to.
You don't think you could get off one punch on a 16-year-old?
Not me.
Not 16-year-old.
year old you. All right. Okay. All right, Hannah. I want to hear a real answer. Hannah. This is a real
answer. Don't worry. It would definitely be like 21, 22, Hannah, when I was lifting at
Bassonomics when we lived in Aberdeen because I was pretty, I was pretty in it there. I definitely
was still, I still had a little more useful energy to me. I feel like I'm slow right now,
even though I've gotten a lot stronger. I feel, I feel more lumbering.
than I used to when I was so agile.
Yeah.
Speed is a factor.
A little bit long ago.
Jess.
I think the, I, I feel like I could take every previous version of me.
Not only do I weigh more than I ever have, but I also have a lot more like pent-up rage that I feel like I can tap into to fuel me.
I think the only one that would really stand a chance might be like 26, 27-year-old, like after I gave
birth and before my back problem
started because I think I was maybe the most
agile like chasing a toddler, but
now I still think I would win.
Where's her confidence, ladies?
I know you could take all the previous...
I was talking hand-to-hand weapon of
I was going to bring up weapons.
Right. She's burning
a sword. I was like
because me now
knows how to use more implements
than any other version of me.
Okay. Okay, I'm going to put some
I'll put some guard rails since you are very official.
Okay.
I'll listen to me now, but or like a couple of years ago when I was lifting more.
So 18-year-old person knows what they know.
You learn more as you get older.
So knowledge doesn't transfer you.
Whatever the timestamp is, boom.
No implements.
It's your feet.
It's your hands.
It's biting.
It's whatever the hell you got on your person.
Jen, by the third.
Okay.
which one
and I don't even care where it is
it's in a bathroom I guess
oh my God
that is where I would throw down
yeah yeah
yeah no mid-maxing
mirth no potion stacking
no
that's not my fine stuff
yeah from a few years ago
when I was like in better lifting
conditioning
yeah I struggled with this one too
because I don't know
Because I would like to say that I'm as strongest as I ever been now, but I probably still couldn't take a younger version of myself because I watch my videos back when I feel like I'm sprinting and I look at it. I'm like, I'm barely jogging. What am I doing? And then I wonder, oh, my God, Jake's watching these videos. He's watching me run like that. I look like a moron. What am I doing? So yes, I feel like probably in a 30.
range some time probably
could have taken my younger and my older self
even if I'm stronger.
Oh gosh. Okay.
What is the
best and worst part of being a chip
in the crew?
Anyone want to start?
Oh gosh. Okay.
I have no idea what's going on.
What do you two have to say?
I have nothing to say.
Let's just
get a little
meta and we'll just reference the conversation
we had on Instagram earlier
today.
Oh boy. Okay.
It's just a guy's world.
So sometimes it's kind of a little
you know,
ball forward, a little testosterone
heavy.
A lot of poop.
A lot of poop.
These guys got loose holes, but a lot of
people are really shitting a lot.
Yeah, I feel like, well, first of all, you're just, it's easier, it's easy for them to remember us because we're a very small portion of the group.
I sometimes appreciate when they don't hold back because sometimes I find the shit funny and I live in a world where some of my women friends don't get that shit.
or don't think it's funny and I kind of do think it's funny so I have no other outlet of
like some of that stupid-ass humor although there are definitely things that are
difficult in any type of man's space but that's like our world that I don't know that it's
limited to crew that's just right yeah that's just a woman being in a man's world to be
honest some girlfriends will talk about poop more than that discord I don't know we
Women can get pretty gross too.
I think the one thing, obviously in every group, it doesn't matter what group you're in,
there's going to be the ones you really gravitate to you and the ones that you know that,
you know that they're friends or you can chat with them or whatever,
but the ones that you really gravitate to, you have now this, no matter where you go
in everywhere that they live in U.S., Canada, wherever it is, you're going to have a friend
that's going to be there for you.
And you sure a shit can guarantee that if you were in the shit and they would have your back.
And so I think that's the part that I appreciate.
So are they dumb boys sometimes?
Sure.
But you know what?
We're probably dumb girls sometimes too.
So it goes both ways.
One thing that I appreciate, I think that the men in the crew, or many of them at least,
like they don't get easily offended.
and when I think about like talking to people like in the workplace or like my family like if I said
some things where I told them how I really feel but you know I'm known for being a bit of a ballbuster
but everyone's got a pretty a good thick skin for it at least so so that's good but to go meta and
refer to our earlier conversation to any men they're listening to just want to give a very gentle
loving reminder that your likes on Instagram are probably public and we can see what you're liking and
just keep that in mind and like with caution that's all and then if we see you like it we're
probably going to check to see if you commented something weird on it and uh that usually will pop up
at the top because we're mutual followers so if you don't want us to see weird stuff that you're
saying online either maybe it maybe that's an inside thought right just up we'd like to see your
explore page oh yeah we do show us that please everyone who's listening to
name please screenshot your explore page right now.
Put it in the comments.
Oh, yeah, Keith told me to say, make sure we drop it in your new channel in the Discord, please.
Generally, we're rolling up on eight.
I just want to check in real quick.
I'm okay.
Yeah.
We'll go, is everybody good?
We'll go for just a little bit longer.
Oh, yeah.
I can go all night.
I do want to, because.
I want to hear some of these too. I'm going to maybe answer this when you guys. We had one person, their wife, Emily, is a supporting member, but hasn't been able to join any of the in-person things. So they were wondering which one would we recommend Big Emily come to. I have a personal opinion. I think Crew Falls is maybe a good choice because honestly it's just more intimate and there's just no stress.
So I recommend that one.
If anybody else has another one, speak up.
Go for it.
No, I agree.
Because then you're not worried about competition,
where all your stuff's at,
driving around wherever.
You know, we're kind of at one spot,
and then we'll just talk until everyone decides to go home,
and then we'll just do that again the next day.
Yes, it's perfect.
Okay, there was a good one.
I'm trying to find it about what advice.
let me find it here.
Or maybe you guys, if you see it, what advice we would give?
Oh, what advice we'd give mid-40s women just starting to string train for the first time?
So obviously, Jennerly and I are probably the only ones in our 40s, I guess.
I would say, just start somewhere.
So I think I started when I was, I did my first power lifting me.
I think when I was 41.
And to be honest, I just started. So like I said, I started a class. I figured out real quick that
I liked lifting and maybe that class wasn't the right one, but at least I started something and I got an
idea of where to go from there. And so I say just start and then start educating yourself.
I wish that I would have started looking at different resources and different things before.
So I hadn't wasted as much time. And to be honest, I know it costs a little bit extra money,
But the sooner you could start with a coach.
I'm not saying that you have to have a coach forever.
But if you start with a coach and get on the right path,
that's going to really make, it's just going to make your time go much quicker
on when you're getting to those learnings because they're giving you real time feedback
and stuff.
So that's my recommendation.
Again, it might cost a little bit more, but I think it's worth it,
especially if you do want to be in the sport or want to like learn the right way.
way to do things. So important to me. What about any of the other ones have any advice for women?
Not specifically. It doesn't have to be for 40-year-old women, but anyone.
Me, I'll go. I think just the reminder that the bar is truly kind of on the ground. And like,
there is no minimum that you have to do. If you have kind of already kind of, if you're starting from
scratch or you have a sedentary lifestyle, you are a keyboard warrior like many of us are. Like,
you know, standing is better than sitting and walking is better than standing and you don't need to
jump, you don't need to jump immediately into heavy strength training. Just like start where you're at and you can build up from there.
And like the importance of not like strength training because it feels good and we like to compete,
but not everyone does like to compete.
Yeah, yeah.
Improving your bone density, keeping your balance as you get older.
You know, the statistics on like how likely you are as.
a woman in your older ears to break a hip and how likely you are to pass away in a short
period of time after that. Like those things can seem really scary. And it really is never too late
to start. I mean, like I feel like I love to see on my four-you page, like videos of older people
who are just starting in their 50s, 60s, even 70s. It's truly never too late. But the best time
to start is now when you can start as small as you want. Yeah. Oh, those grandma power lifters.
Yeah. I love it.
When I, okay, so maybe some of you don't know, I was a PTA for a while for fiscal therapy,
and I was helping out at a clinic that basically had like a, kind of like a full gym in it,
which was awesome because most PT clinics obviously had just kind of have a lot of,
a lot of bullshit.
Because it's more like rehab.
It's all really light.
There's not a lot of like actual weights there that they had it set up where there was
kind of like a gym.
They had machines and dumbbells.
They did not have any barbells or plates or anything.
thing. But if you graduated from PT, you could have like a very cheap, like gym membership to come into
the clinic to use the stuff during like regular hours. And there was this old lady that she was in there
after she had a fall and she just liked it so much. And that was like the only physical activity
she'd really ever been exposed to in like a lifting sense that she just kept coming in. And I would
see her in there like every day. And she was like literally 91 and she could like. And she could like.
press like 130 pounds or something like that.
And then she just get up and go to the next thing, you know.
And like I'm sure at one point when she walked in there, she needed like some kind of
assistive device.
And she did not by the time that I started working there that, you know, you don't even
have to be doing it for that long to show like a pretty market improvement.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Those things.
Those stories melt my heart and I love watching older ladies.
be strong and independent. I love it.
I'm going to answer this one because I know who sent it in and it might not
hit home for anybody. It's a suspicious, oh my gosh,
specific for me. So I'm going to answer it just so that we can get it off the table.
Okay, so there's been a little bit of pillow talk in the past on you and you.
One of them is Keith. Keith has a really fucking old pillow that's like 20 years and it's,
it's lore that this thing has been around forever.
And then there's lore about me,
almost getting a divorce over a pillow because my husband,
I loved his my pillow,
and I borrowed it.
And so he thought it was a good idea to buy me one for Christmas at one point.
And I got really mad at him because this is the kind of shit.
Like he got me for Christmas.
We don't do presents anymore, by the way.
I don't know if it was because of them.
Related.
Unrelated.
but so the question is if I had to choose between Keith's heirloom pillow or the pillow that almost
cost Jen or husband, Jen's husband 20 years of marital bliss to wield in a pillow fight which
wouldn't you choose. So that's the first part. Second part is which pillow would you want your
opponent to wield? Well, I, this is sad. So I think my my pillow would win because it's pretty
tough and robust. But I don't know that I would want my opponent to wield a 20-year-old pillow
from Keith. If it had me once, I'd be like disgusted. So I think that's the true. You got to imagine
that's probably just accumulated density every year that he's had it. It's like turning into a black hole.
It's just getting a little heavier every year, I think. Can you imagine getting hit with that?
I'd rather get hit with it while it was on fire
because then you're burning the girls off.
Oh my God, yeah. It's so true. Oh, dear.
Okay. Oh, this is a good one.
Are there any other, so I know we love to talk about food, cookies, drinks, whatever it is.
And I started it and I lost it, but I started the ghost one.
but are there any other food or drink tier lists that any of us should explore?
Thoughts?
Possibilities are on list.
Yeah, I brought it up earlier.
Oreo flavors.
Ooh.
Yeah, that's a good one.
Me and Murph just talked about this, that, um, diet pop versus like a zero sugar.
And like, I would love a tier list of, like, the diet and zero sugars.
I'm like a zero sugar supremacy.
other than Coke Zero.
But also just like pop in general, I guess.
We're pop here.
Sorry, everyone.
Yeah, we're pops.
Good.
Why does Coke Zero not taste as good as Coke Zero Cherry?
I don't get it.
I like Coke Zero.
I won't touch regular Coke Zero, but Cherry Coke Zero is where it's on.
I think Pepsi Zero is also ass.
I don't really know.
I don't like Pepsi, unless it's Fountain Pepsi.
Yeah.
I was going to say, then we got to explore that.
Yeah, Dr. Pepper Zero.
Right.
Yeah, that's good.
Dr. Pepper brand supremacy.
Mountain Dew, Zero is good.
Diet Mountain Dew is diabolical.
Melo yellow zero is good.
Mellow Yellow Zero is great.
I'll have to try these.
Well, back then we didn't have zero.
When I started drinking diet pop, we didn't have zero.
And the only reason I ever tried a diet is I remember,
I vividly remember I was out of bar.
Yeah, that was just for lunch, though.
And they brought me a Diet Mountain Dew and I drank and I'm like, I guess that wasn't so bad.
And then I just switched.
Like, okay, there we go.
I don't remember where I was.
Do you prefer crunchy chocolate chip or gooey chocolate chips?
Grunchy on the edge, soft in the middle.
That's the perfect answer.
Yeah.
Okay, do you have any pre?
I like this one.
Do we have any pre-workout meals or routines that you do?
I'm curious about this one.
I just kind of show up.
Do you have a drink?
I try to only have one a day.
Sometimes I'm naughty on the weekends and I'll have another one.
But I have it right away in the morning because otherwise I'm not sure that I'm going to stay at work.
If I don't have some hit of dopamine or something when I get there to keep me there.
So no, I kind of just show I kind of, I might have like a protein bar on the way.
to the gym and that's kind of that's that's kind of it yeah just not really no i'm not if i work out at all i
certainly don't have a routine katy um i usually work out after work so like in the summer right now
that involves like a 10-mile bike ride home so i like to i generally have some sort of coffee in the
afternoon but just coffee i'm not a huge energy drink person and then it's not uncommon to have some
candy around the house to slam if i need some quick shirt
before I left.
Murph?
No, nothing specific on food or drink.
Yeah.
Generally?
Energy drink every time.
Water.
Every time.
Electrolites if it's summer.
I'm going to have is the bagel.
Nature's bakery brownie or orange.
We're all three.
We're all three.
Yeah, I'm obviously going in the morning.
and so it's just pre-workout for me.
I don't do that.
I can't, for some reason, I can't do an energy drink in the morning,
but I'll do a pre-workout, but it's pretty tame.
You don't eat before you go in the morning?
I know.
Jake said that too, but I'm like, goddamn.
I've tried.
I've tried to eat like dry toast,
and it's just so fucking early.
But I'll eat huge meal right after.
I do eat a huge breakfast right after.
And I do, I told them, like I said,
I was trying to have my biggest meal at night.
So then hopefully then a little bit will carry over maybe.
When I have to lift before work, I'm the same way and he's made the same comment.
Like you did that without eating?
It's like, well, yeah, I'm not going to eat right away.
Yeah, I haven't even had coffee yet.
You have to get up so early if you're going to eat before you go because you can't eat right when you wake up.
Yeah, that's the problem.
I can eat right when I wake up.
That's not a problem.
You're right, Katie.
I think I can do.
But not.
I kind of have to.
We can wake up.
I don't really do that.
I don't like eating early.
It must be a time thing.
I don't know.
Okay.
I'm going to ask a couple more and then we'll wrap it up.
I want to hear everybody's greatest,
what you feel is your greatest feat of strength.
Katie, do you have one?
I guess on an individual, it is, it's probably like the 240 stone I've done.
But like overall, it's, I think, getting through the Arnold, right?
That was like a 300-pound trap or deadlift, a max log, 440-pound yoke.
I've done a 500-pound yolk, so that one's up there too.
Not getting hurt at the Arnold is a pretty solid.
Fidtis strength.
Genoa.
Whatever happened in 2015 when my third child was born and surviving those couple of years.
Yeah.
Nice.
I guess we know we haven't talked about that, but that's, I feel like a lot of the
good, our good crew friends, they do understand what women go through.
And we do have to go through a lot, whether it's birth, periods, menopause, like all this.
Yeah, we didn't talk about tampons, you guys.
You haven't talked about tampons.
We didn't even bring it up once.
No.
They can't handle it.
There was so much boob talk in the Instagram chat, too.
We haven't even barely touched on boobs.
More nipples as anything.
We're like missing all the good stuff.
But yes, guys, we lift and we have to wear tampons.
we have our pads and sometimes that shit just fucking flies everywhere and it comes out because
you're bracing so hard and so fuck you guys for not having that you ever sweat so much that your
pad just kind of unsticks from your underwear and then it's just not in there anymore
yeah it all just really sucks crime scenes I'm talking it is a crime scene so yes and mood swings
and all the things. So, sorry, Murph.
What?
Oh, God.
What are we doing? Feet of Strength?
Yes, your favorite one that you can remember.
Or anybody else, Jess, or?
Oh, so just recently,
I was off the train. I took the train up to Pennsylvania.
And a dude called me ma'am and asked if I needed help with my
luggage and I just like stared at them and just like one-handed it up into the thing but like I'm good like fucking
man yourself like I was so mad but I was also like no thank you that's really nice I'm good but so like still being able to like do that kind of stuff like easily
which I know not it is you know a mobility thing for some people but um yeah not having to like accept
help when it's a basic thing.
That was cool.
Probably it's like that for a long time.
Hannah.
Hmm.
Well, if we're just talking pure strength, like sport related, it's definitely the surprise
160-pound farmer carries that I just had to do last weekend.
I don't know if you know, but I was in the under 165 weight class.
So I think that's a little heavy for that event.
way heavier than, I know it's different, but like way over my max deadlift.
And like I said, it ended up being heavier than the freaking yoke that I even did that day.
And I didn't drop it at all until the end.
So I only had to pick up that stupid thing once.
But let's see.
If there's anything not sport related, I don't know.
Maybe the time that I had to fight through a year and a half of people telling me that I was just out of shape.
and it was just shin splints
when I ended up having a stress fracture
in both of my tibia.
Oh, dang.
Before someone finally decided to do an MRI
and then told me to take a freaking break
and then I still had to get surgery in my legs anyway.
Oh, my gosh.
Athletic trainers at high school are awesome.
This is making my joke answer feel like a dumb dumb
because really, like, I was proud of shit
like when I deadlifted of a decent amount of weight again after I never I didn't know if I was
going to lift again ever when I was like bound to a couch for like four months just like holding
the walls and crawling to the bathroom so just lifting again at all has been like pretty amazing
so that's more of the real answer um yes um at Thanksgiving time my like former like training group
has this kind of tradition of like maxing out on squats and they use reverse bands and we're all in gear
and it's not comparable to a real squat but when you pick it at the top it is like real weight you know what i
mean like the bands are slack and the gear is not helping you and i think my top squats then like
it's picking maybe 550 pounds and like that's probably the most that i that's what i would say
i'm like the proudest of other than like childbirth yeah it's that it's not
And you ladies are all so strong, and I feel like I can't really do anything that even remotely compares, except for that one thing of a lot of spinal loading.
That's no joke.
Yeah.
It's not.
And we're all strong.
You can't be not strong and even stand with something like that on your back gear or not.
Well, very, very quick story time.
Right after I started training at this place, there was this kind of catastrophic injury.
where someone got her under a squat and was out of commission for a while.
He, like, tore his quad under the bar and someone else caught the weight and tore their
bicep.
And that was, like, maybe, like, I hadn't really even started seriously training at that point.
It was, like, very scary for everyone.
And at that point, it was a huge issue because with these people out of commission,
there wasn't enough people to, like, work the monolith and do the side spotting.
And the guys there were limiting, like, we really need another strong guy.
And I'm like, I'm here, I'm strong.
And they're like, sure, Jess, but we need someone who can squat 500 pounds so that we can
like safely side spot for these people.
And like that buried itself so deep in the wrinkles of my brain that I'm like, I need to
squat 500 pounds.
And I can't, right?
But I'm like, in that moment, I'm like, yeah, there's 500 something pounds on the bar.
I feel like I belong here a little bit.
So that was nice.
That's awesome.
I guess for me, obviously life is just hard.
So being a woman in any form is a feat of strength every single day.
I guess the lifts, though, that I remember the most are two lifts.
So when I was still powerlifting, I struggle with squat.
And so I remember the first, and I mean really struggle with squat.
So I remember the first time I hit 225 and like two plates and a meat.
And I thought that was, I was so excited.
I mean, the rest of the meat was shit.
I was so excited that I got that one squat.
And now I can do more obviously with that moment.
And then my first strong man event, there was a keg loading event.
And my friend Lauren had said, I'm like, what strategy should I take?
because at that time you could pick,
you were trying to get most weight over the bars,
so you didn't have to go in order,
kind of like our rock event, you know?
And so she's like,
pick the biggest one that you can get and get it over and then go from there.
And so I was the only woman in that,
and I did have competitors,
but I was the only woman that went for the 150 and got it over.
And I think we were at a 42 high.
So we're not quite as high as Jake goes,
but I remember it very vividly.
And I was very proud of myself for that.
I didn't win, but I still got the biggest one.
So I was happy about that.
All right.
So I do, this one's correct.
Does anybody have any ideas for the Lift Hard Living Z5 logo?
We should pick a color at least, right?
Make sure they don't double up.
It would be a good color.
What have we?
Because we've had purple.
We've had orange.
I think we need green.
Yeah.
like a bright green or like a hunter green
Great
I don't know about like I think an olive on black would not
I don't know how good that would be but maybe like a
Maybe like a Kelly or a lime
Yeah
Because what was the first year that was red
It was kind of like yellow
Yellow and red
Year two was definitely red
Black and red because it was the hockey mask one
And then the rodeo
one and then yeah.
Well, yeah, we definitely need green.
They might as well do pink.
They got a salmon fleshy shirt.
Yeah.
We can do some pink.
They could do all yellow like they did for the very first.
Oh, man.
That was quite a bright, obnoxious shirt.
Yeah.
What if they did like a green, like a multicam and it was like kind of like a soldiery helmet?
It's like going to war with the bar or something?
No.
We're getting into money.
Let me write that down
but it's not a bad idea.
I do like camoie.
Camoie would be nice.
I'm not a Camel fan.
I don't know if the war is like a good,
I don't know. I don't like the war with the bar.
You could be hunting.
We don't like the war with the bar thing.
Ironically, we'll say it.
Right.
Okay.
All right.
Okay, we're just going to have to,
you know what, sorry people that didn't get to.
to their questions.
We'll answer them
one form or another. We'll figure out
a way to get them out to you guys.
I thought this has been really
good.
I'm going to read
affiliate links real quick
and then we'll start to wrap it up here.
All right.
Our affiliate links, we have belt fed
strength, home gymcon,
plate snacks,
barbell rescue and gym radar.
Code unpaid, gets you a free account.
over there.
I heard those guys are great.
Katie, do you want to do
Massanabiccadry?
Can I throw it your way?
I do.
Okay, awesome.
Are you a woman home gym owner
looking to talk equipment
and Facebook marketplace deals?
Maybe you're a woman who found
strength trading later in life,
but still has the sense of humor
of a middle school boy.
Are you a wife concerned
that your husband has joined a cult,
oddly encouraging South Dakota tourism?
Maybe you're a mom,
charmed by a certain tank-driving
Canadian master's multi-sport athlete.
Why don't you visit
massanomics.com slash join
to find the community
that you've been looking for.
Oh, bravo.
I love it.
Nice.
All done.
All right.
Before I do,
before I wrap those up,
is there anything that anybody has to get off
their chest?
This is our half.
You mean that's for your bra.
Except for your bra and your nipple pads and like all the things.
Let us use the warm-up equipment before you load it up.
Yeah.
Don't just put three plates on there right away.
Sometimes we've got to ease into it.
I would say yes.
I was looking back at some of the questions and trying to figure out like what are some of the hindrances and things like that.
So 16-year-old me is coming out.
It's quite you.
Yeah.
Or, so promoters, or put some equipment off to the side just for women or lighter lifters, please.
So that we can also warm up.
Yeah.
Yeah, I just like, like I ask, like, I'm like, are you, you want to lift this before we add any more?
That's all you got to do.
Yeah.
And, you know, like, usually we're going first.
Right.
So like maybe you could let us warm up first.
Yeah, exactly.
Was this an issue the last couple of years?
I feel like this, I haven't been at the Ramcota.
I've only no Odie.
I don't feel like it was an issue there.
I think it's more of a strong man.
Yeah.
Definitely more strong man, yeah.
And then this comp that we did last weekend,
I think they forgot that we were there.
For sure.
I just went inside and used the stuff inside because.
Yeah.
the show promoter came up to me for a deadlift.
Then they wheeled the axe off there.
And then they just immediately put like three or four plates on it.
And like they had just been deadlifting for the last 45 minutes.
Like they needed to get it in again.
He comes up to me.
He's like, he's like, it's pretty cool to warm up first.
But sure.
And he said, whoa.
We could strip it down.
It's like, that's fine.
That's not worth it at this point.
Yep.
I said I'll get a couple.
Okay, so anybody listening that wants to reach out or has questions or any women in the crew, reach out. We want to hear from you or not in the crew or any of the wives. Send them our way. We'll help them get incorporated into the crew. It's a fun time. But like Katie said, you might have to have a middle school junior high boy teenage humor to stick around. So.
All right, so we'll wrap this up.
I'm going to go around the room.
