Welcome back to episode 177 of the unpaid and underrated podcast, a podcast by crew for crew.
Tonight, we got host Big, damn it.
I already just fucked it up.
That's right.
We're doing it live.
All right.
Here we go.
I'll say Big Hogan.
I'm like, what the?
Sorry.
He tried to change it.
Doing it live.
All right.
Tonight we got, give me started over, Keith.
If you want.
I would like to.
Yeah.
I'll screw it up pretty bad.
You can only start over at the beginning once we start.
this is the one mulligan big nate we're gonna we're gonna go now buddy so sorry about that little uh edit
he always cuts off since it's the beginning it's good yeah he'll probably leave this he's he's been
busy with them you know raising seven kids so it's hard to you know i'm include myself and some other
people that he probably has to raise in that you know quantity but uh busy guy i do miss the
the post show where it was like bleep you know beep beep beep and then it'd be like you know
30 second comment 30 second comment 30 second comment but i get that it's a lot to go through and
pool. Oh, it's a lot of editing. But then sometimes
I'm like, is because we're not funny or because
he's busy? Like I, you know, I kind of take it as a personal
insult when he doesn't do it because it means him telling me we're not
funny and there was nothing funny said, but
deep down, I know it's because he's fucking busy
and I get it. Yeah, yeah. But such is life. I'm going to start it over.
We're going to know it at this time. Yep.
Welcome back to episode 177
of the unpaid and underrated podcasts,
a podcast by crew or crew.
Tonight we have guest Big Nicole and we're joined as always
by Big Keith, the host of the unpaid and underrated
podcast. Howdy, howdy how are you? I'm well, my friend. How are you? Doing good. Good, good, good. How are you doing, Nicole?
Doing good. Nice. Glad to hear it. Well, big Brandon, big Nicole. We get some general topics
will knock out and then we can kind of dive right into Nicole's episode. The open power lifting
finally got updated, you know, 17 months later that is up and live and running. So that should
make a lot of people happy. It was interesting. It is a darker color. So if anyone didn't see
Tanner's message and they see the open powerlifting and they're like, why is this a darker shade
of, you know, font? It's basically the way they're to differentiate. I think I actually got that
right. Unsanction versus sanctioned. So it's a little darker, but, you know, still on open power lifting.
So that's pretty cool. Yeah, I thought it was pretty cool to see my name on there today.
Yeah, you were top 10, weren't you?
I think I'd barely miss top 10.
I think I may have been 11 or something like that.
Well, that's out of Wilkes, too.
Total you might have been.
Yeah.
Totally.
Yeah, I'm not sure.
I didn't really compare those, but yeah.
No, the problem of being a heavy lifter, you know.
Yeah.
I'm trying to lift heavy.
It's one of these days.
Well, I'm in heavy body weight.
Yeah.
I've got you beat there too.
Big boy.
So did officially sign up for the RPS meeting in Rochester.
that'll be October 10th.
Yeah, so next Saturday, the Saturday that this comes out.
And I'm excited.
Jake's got me hitting some big weights.
We hit a, what was it, 405 for four last week?
I hit a 40400 SSB.
That was a little off script, but I was like, man, I can't.
I'm so close to hitting an SSBPR.
And it's like, we did like 365 and it was like RP6 or something.
I was like, oh, man, I got a swing and just to bump up my SSBPR 10 pounds.
So we got that 400 and then tonight we, uh, because it was the top squad of, you know,
I say prep loosely because we like prep for like a week and a half, two weeks kind of while I still
doing strongman stuff.
But, uh, did, uh, 435 for a top single.
I had borrowed some monolith attachments from a local buddy.
And I used those up until, I did.
I use those for like 365, 400 and 410.
And I was like, I kept not getting like the, as good a position as I thought because I kind of had to be
closer to the rack.
And then when I unracked it,
I wasn't tight enough because I just didn't really know what I was doing.
So then my whole chest kind of fell forward like an inch or two and then trying to like rebraise and squat.
And it just, I don't know, didn't really feel good.
I've used a mono lift in the past.
These attachments are not really a mono lift because they swing forward so dramatically.
It was just, it was a unique situation.
So I was like, once I had hit 410 and I was like, man, I still got to do 420 and 435.
I was like, I'm going to just, it was annoying because I just strip it all the way down and put the other J cups in.
and then, you know, re-add the weight.
But I was like, felt much more comfortable walking it out.
Yeah.
Are you just going to walk it out at the meeting?
We'll see.
Big Matt Sessney and Jess, or well, at least Matt, I'm not sure if Jess will be there, but I probably will.
But Matt said he's like a 99% chance to be able to make it to handle me.
So I don't think I could like, you know, do a meet with Matt and have him not talk me into using the monos.
But I think this particular meet, they bring a couple monos.
So I might be able to actually use a mono throughout the whole warmups.
So, you know, at least get the vibe.
on a couple of, you know, of my heavier warmups going through.
So we'll see that might be a game time decision or a game day decision.
I'll still have.
Yeah.
If you take your opener, it feels like shit, you can always just change it from there.
Yeah.
Because I know I, you know, literally prove myself that I can walk out a big fucking weight.
So I'm not too worried about that.
But I'm excited.
We'll get that meet under the, we'll do that meet and then kind of put all focuses back into
Strongman and, you know, have some fun.
If your third attempt isn't 500 pounds, I'm going to be.
you matter. My third attempt is going to be
450 probably, so I don't think I'm going to go from
435 to 500 without doing anything in between.
You know, that's a, that is a large jump, but
450'd be cool. But we'll see.
I said Jake had, I was talking, texting with Jake the other night,
and he, like, he kind of said, like, you're not a power lifter anymore.
So it doesn't really matter what you do. And I was just kind of like,
man, I guess I'm not a power lift anymore. That was kind of hard to hear.
Like, even though, like, I've self-admitted that I've, like, fully,
given myself to Strongman and really enjoyed it the last few years to like do powerlifting for like nine years and then like be told I'm not a power lifter's like, oh.
But yes, my main focus is strong man.
I just have finding it slightly hard to give up my my open powerlifting streak of an annual meet.
So we'll we'll get that in and have fun.
Nothing says you can't do both.
Yeah.
So it's not like we're getting paid to do this stuff.
No, I'm definitely not getting paid.
If I was getting paid, it'd be getting paid to take my pants off because that kind of happened the other day.
funny story. I was bringing in the monolift attachments at like it was like nine o'clock on Monday because I
basically was like when the guy was available. He lived like 20 minutes away. It was a whole thing to get him.
And then I had to get a day not, I don't say it negatively. It's a buddy that I've known, um, I think he's
come to live here a couple times, but I've never been to his place. But he's got a pretty extensive home gym.
It's definitely set up just for himself. Like you'd never have anybody over. He has a whole rack that's
just set up with like, uh, jammer arms and the, the rogue seat and he uses a leg press and stuff. So like he
you can tell he's just like it's just you know him down there but um so i was bringing the the monolift
attachments inside and they're heavy as fuck they weigh like 40 pounds or something a piece and i had the
um so i was carrying both of them and i had the uh the big pins like the hitch pins in my
pocket and it's the hitch pins with a lanyard and a key so they're just like extra heavy so i had
those in like my left and my right you know massonomic shorts pockets and i'm walking in and those
uh like i'm walking from my car to my house and it was uh i'm walking from my car to my house and it was
It was pretty dark out, but I think I had the light on.
And my pants just started to come down.
And I'm like, I can't do much about it.
So I, like, I still, I, I don't wear it on some dick wasn't out.
But, like, I definitely, like, the last 10 feet and up the stairs and into the house was just underwear, you know, just in underwear with my shorts around my waist, just walking or around my ankles.
Because I wasn't going to, like, sit them on.
I lift attachments down, readjust and make two trips.
And, God, I mean, I'm definitely not making two trips, right?
So it's kind of funny to me, though, because you.
I've literally seen you farmers carry like implements with like 225 pounds in each hand.
And then these are 40 pounds each and you're like, I'm not making two trips.
Yeah.
But yeah, I was like, oh, you know, I'm pretty sure there's some college kids that like live in the second story next door.
And they're just like, oh, what's this asshole doing outside?
And why is he, why is his pants down?
Like, yeah, such is his life.
That is awesome.
It's a lifting thing.
You wouldn't understand.
Basically.
Was Stephanie home to witness it?
I think she was in bed.
I think, well, I know she was in bed, I don't know she was asleep, but I think, I think I had taken them downstairs.
That was the tricky part because, like, I wanted to mess with them like immediately and, like, be like, man, am I going to get the feel for these?
So it's like, 8, 30, 9 o'clock a night.
And I'm, like, trying to put them on the, trying to put them on the squat wreck as quiet as possible.
And they're just loud as fuck.
Just like, just doing anything because they're so heavy.
And I don't know.
So I'm sure I kept her awake for a little bit while I was down there trying to mess with it just to see if I wanted with the whole.
I was, you know, do I want to walk it out or, you know, use the.
the monoliths. That was the whole thing, but...
I'm interested to see how you like it if you actually do end up using the monoliths,
because there's lots of meats in the little area, I feel like, that use monoliths.
And, I mean, I have a combo rack. I've only competed at the Lift Hardly v. Z this last time,
I'm in a combo rack. So that's one thing I'm kind of skeptical of. I'm like, I kind of like
my combo rack. So I'll be interested to get your opinion on that. I know you've, I mean,
you've competed in the RPS before, though, right?
Not RPS. It was WNPF, which.
which is more of like a, it's like an Ohio Federation,
but like that particular director just always brought a motto lift.
So, but that was, I had, like my first six meets,
I think it was my first, yeah, six meet because it was about three or four years
with almost two meets every year.
But I was really before I had kind of gone all in on it.
And I mean, I was still, I mean, I was doing it, you know, a meter to every year.
But I hadn't, I had never squatted 400 in any of those feds.
I didn't squat 400 until I had switched over to a combo wreck.
So apparently that's what I needed to finally get strong was to leave the,
Mono Lift Federation.
Oh, okay.
We'll see.
We'll see how it goes out.
But I was just funny,
walking on my damn underwear out.
I wasn't the only time I,
it wasn't the only funny,
you know,
thing people made about me this week either.
That damn tractor pictures I posted just took a,
took a life of themselves.
And I think I saw about a half a dozen memes and some videos.
Oh, that was great.
Yeah.
Some screensavers.
It might take the place.
The Keith Face has become one of my favorites,
but I might have a new one now with all the tractor.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
That was good stuff.
I got to go mow that grass.
I'm pretty much sure I'll be taking care of my in-laws' yard the rest of the year.
My father-in-law's having some serious health issues
and kind of have to step up and, you know, fill that void.
So if I wasn't a busy dink before, I sure am now.
Quick sports and books.
My fantasy football team is not doing good.
oh and three. I needed the Eagles to get me like four points to win my first game and they
gave me negative one. So that didn't happen. And then book upsdates, I finally read Lessons and Chemistry.
It was a show I had watched a year or two ago. I really enjoyed it. I think Jen had recommended
the book. It's that she liked it a lot better than the show. So I gave it a whirl. I'm not big on
one-off books. I think I said that in the past, but like if I already have a little bit of history with
it, it makes it easier to kind of get into it. So very good book. So if you like the show and you're, you know,
Didn't read the book yet.
Give it a whirl.
Is your fantasy league one that has a punishment if you lose?
Yeah, well, my punishment.
Well, no, yeah, because I'm in the middle.
There's currently three tiers.
And every league basically, except the bottom, because I don't know what,
if you're the bottom four in the bottom league, I guess you just stay there.
But the top four go up.
Basically, the top half go up in every league when the bottom half goes down.
So there'll be a lot of fluctuation.
but yeah, I'm 100% going to get relegated this year.
You don't have to eat 100 hot dogs.
Oh, no.
Oh, yeah, yeah.
Okay, yeah, yeah, I see what you mean.
No, we were not organized enough.
There was talks about having like a punishment.
I think year one.
And then it just never came to fruition.
Like no one ever really, you know, buckled down.
Did you not see the update on that, Keith?
It's like, I think it said you have to forcibly poop your pants.
Oh, yeah.
If you lose.
So are you good with that?
I mean, I guess I have to become a high rocks athlete then.
I don't know if we should touch that one.
Fiddled a little bit last week.
Yeah, you did.
Well, Brandon, as the host coming back again,
you're kind of your platform to share any personal updates or any feedback.
I know you're a loyal listener.
I've been getting a lot of different crew hosting with us
and a lot of positive feedback from all the in all the discords.
You think all that's legit or you think people are cooking the books and we're just,
we still suck or what do you think?
I think they're lying straight to your face.
Yeah, bastards.
I think it's going really well.
Personally, for me, I'm kind of going through a little Tommy back tweak right now, as you've heard about.
Oh, yeah.
Yeah, it was just stupid, like squatting and I was on my top set.
I don't even remember the weight.
It was like a RPE7 top set.
And on my third rep, just had a little pop and my knee shot forward.
And I've been in pain ever since.
So that was on, what's today?
Today's Wednesday.
That was on Monday.
So it's getting better slowly, but surely, just trying to stay active.
And so resident OT, Big Robo, he's unaware of this back tweak.
But about every six months, I'll tweak my back.
And usually that ends up.
me with voice recordings talking to Robo and he's given me stretches and, you know,
a bunch of other exercises and movements to do.
So I'll say he's kind of like my unpaid doctor that I just go to him for.
That might be the only time in history when a voice recording is like valid and not annoying.
Like, yes.
When someone sends me a voice recording and it's because they don't want to type a paragraph,
I'm like, I'm not listening to that or like how do I send this?
How do I get this transcribed back to a fucking text?
Because, like, I don't have, a lot of it, too.
It's just like if it's late at night, I'm not trying to be loud in the house.
Like, I, you know, my fucking headphones go in at like 8 o'clock to accommodate Stephanie's early bedtime, basically.
So sometimes when it's a lot of information, I think it makes sense.
Sometimes, like, Hill said me a voice recording sometime, it's or whoever.
And I will just text back just because I'm like, you know what I mean?
so. Is Jake a coach that does voice recordings? No, no. That's pretty common. I've heard as far as coaches.
I've seen people do like, I, my old coach would do like, he would like talk over my video and like, or he'd like screen record and like zoom in in slow motion. I haven't got that yet that I recall. But he, we do like with Jake. It's basically, it all runs through the train heroic app, but you can't upload videos on that. So you basically put all your, put all your sets and reps and RPEs and.
you can type paragraphs of data if you choose.
And then he kind of asked for like one video of your top set.
And then I end up like sending him my top set maybe my,
maybe my last, you know,
depending on how it went.
Like also if I'm doing a new exercise for the first time,
I feel inclined to send him that because I do want feedback on all these unique
body weight and, you know,
isometric things that I've never done before in my entire life or, you know,
if I did, I was like, yeah, this hurts.
I'm not doing it and never did him again.
and he doesn't really let me say this hurts.
I'm not doing it.
But everything,
I kind of been able to power through everything and get stronger.
But, uh,
is,
but then the,
the messaging and the videos is all through WhatsApp,
because it gets easier for him to,
do not get bombarded with,
like,
actual text on his personal phone.
He's just,
and then he,
like,
he think he just basically keeps WhatsApp,
like,
hidden until he's ready to go look at it and be the coach kind of thing.
So it's kind of the best way for him to still get people's videos,
but then not just have a thousand,
like,
text messages that he feels obligated to look at.
for sure.
But no video, yeah, no,
other than the, yeah, no voice recordings yet.
Oh, what did we have this week?
We had the Massonomics YouTube video.
That was one of the gentlemen out in Arizona,
the 60, was it a 5-0, retired 50 or something, right?
A big Tim, I believe.
Yeah, I don't think he's on social media
because I was not familiar with him in any capacity whatsoever,
but I might be wrong.
He's kind of awesome.
Yeah, he's kind of.
He's like 62 and he's like, yeah, squat 500 pounds, no big game.
Yeah, his thrower background.
I mean, I liked his back room that had all of his metals and his old discs.
Yeah, that was cool.
Yeah, that was cool.
I mean, I know he said he cleaned it up for Tommy and Tanner, but it still seemed really organized.
Yeah, it's just, I mean, there's no way that wasn't like the template before we cleaned it up.
I mean, that was pretty cool.
I also thought it was, it was funny, like so many people were so worried about their Jim
equipment, how perfect it is. And it's kind of going, I mean, talking about Big Hogan, it's kind of going
along with his journey of painting everything purple. Well, this got painted everything and multiple
times. And I thought that was just really cool. Yeah, I think he had a little, I think he definitely
had some ticks with like having to repaint shit different, like different shades. He's like,
this was semi-gloss and then it was flat and now it's satin or whatever. I'm like, God damn,
dude. Like, I thought, I thought I was in the spectrum. You're fucking, you're on that.
You are the spectrum. Yeah.
But you sound like you watched a little bit of that, Nicole?
Yeah, we were watching it today, actually.
Oh, yeah.
Anything stand out where you were like, oh, Hogan needs that?
Oh, no, don't say that.
He's not going to listen to this one for like two months.
Don't worry.
That's right.
Yeah, we have a little bit of a buffer to catch up on.
No, we were talking about we had made a trip.
We've both been to Arizona together.
We made a trip ended up together and how hot it was.
I said we couldn't imagine even in the cold months, quote,
quote cold months of Arizona having stuff outside.
They're, you know, being from California, I'll tell you, there's no cold.
It's not cold enough to have stuff outside like that.
It's crazy.
Talk about frying egg on the, oh, thank you.
I don't know what's worse.
I don't know what's worse.
But frying it on the keg is what I thought when I saw the metal keg.
I don't know what's worse, though.
Like I've worked out in garage.
I mean, luckily I have a basement gym, but working out in a garage gym when it's like five
degrees outside and the barbell is just like ice.
like when you go to grab it, like that's miserable also.
So like you can heat stuff up easier than you can cool stuff down.
But both are horrible.
And the more I have this garage gym, the more I'm like, oh, what can I do in the basement
that's close enough?
Like, getting to where like I use the garage like once in the last three months or something
because I was like, oh, I can do, I can either go to East Ave Borbeau or I can, you know,
do most of it down in the basement.
And basically I get it down to where the only thing I have to do outside anymore is my
sandbag carries. That's because Jake fucking has me
sandbag carry a mile. And if I do it in the basement,
I got to fucking turn like every
20 feet. And it's just
it's fucking tedious.
So, yeah.
The podcast. I listened to last night.
So that's what's fresh in my head.
So I'm going to need someone else to give me a
reminder of what the massonomics episode was this
week. Oh, was the Arizona recap?
Yeah, it was the Arizona. Yeah.
Yeah. So those
are always fun.
Basically,
uh, Tanner,
talking about multiple times burning himself
and like trying to describe how like
it wasn't just hot like it literally
gave me a burn.
Yeah, it's horrible. It's you can't be
outside hot. Yeah, I don't want to go
there. That doesn't sound fun. I'm curious
if they saw any
what are the fucking bugs? The scorpions
the no Mike
nice like Mike always talks about scorpions in his gym and I'm like
that sounds fucking terrifying. I think Tanner said he did not see
scorpions in the podcast.
I did just notice one thing, Keith, which I don't know if we're going to touch on it, but all three of us have had our gyms toured.
So I don't know if has there been a you and you episode where both hosts and the guest have had gym tours?
I'd have to look at the spreadsheet real quick, but maybe.
I know.
We've been saying we're due for an update on their next.
Oh, I know.
Yeah, you all.
Yeah.
They're only here like every month.
So next time.
Yeah, they can get an update 2.0.
I guess at this point it's what like how many jams have you all had?
I think this is 4.0.
4.0.
They didn't tour.
They didn't tour a little though.
So of tours, this would only be two.
Right.
At a quick glance, I'm going to say no, because there's a couple that had had gym tours,
but the host hadn't and vice versa.
So yeah, no, I think this is where.
And I mean, it is Nicole's gym.
It is not Hogan's gym.
So like, I'm going to give this credit.
Like, if Hogan was on tonight, it wouldn't count because it's her gym.
Agreed.
I actually did.
all to work for it.
Yeah.
That's what we hear.
Making history.
But anybody else have any input on this week's episode?
Nope.
I think you covered it.
Good deal.
Good deal.
All right, guys.
So we've got a little affiliate ad read for you guys.
Plate snacks and barbedo rescue.
Go if you need any of those stickers or the barbell rescue brush.
Someone had used the barbell rescue brush code is slowed down.
So I don't know if people, I don't know if Jim Raider is stealing my, my, my,
minuscule barbell rescue affiliate links or not, but I think I got the first, the first email for,
you know, my, my $2 profit, you know, for the first time in a couple months today. So I was like,
ooh, winning. I can buy one sticker from plate snacks now. Code unpaid. All right. And
Big Nicole, do you have anything you want to share? Oh, sorry. Would you like to do a
a mass nomic sponsor read? Well, yeah, now that you mentioned it. Sorry. I'm, I'm,
I will get better at hosting a podcast one day.
I mean, you're new at it.
It's fine.
Fair.
As Tanner says, I'm as good as I am as good now as I was on day one.
All right.
Yeah.
So I have an ad read.
Are you, too, the partner to someone who spends their evenings alone in the garage
streaming to their internet lifting friends?
Do you spend your weekends and evenings driving to strangers' houses to pick up Facebook
marketplace bargains?
Would you also like to drive 17 hours to cheer on a bunch of people with the first name big?
If so, join Massonomics.
These things are not only normal, but some of your favorite memories will come from.
As an added bonus, when you sign up for Massanomics, you'll also receive an endless stream of discord friends and notifications to your phone that you can never figure out how to turn off free of charge.
Very good.
I like it.
All truth.
All true things also.
So we're going to just jump off here, Nicole.
sorry, Big Nicole.
So who are you?
And what is your Instagram, Discord,
username, all the fun stuff?
Yeah, I'm Big Nicole.
Instagram is Unleash the Borders,
as in Border Collies, so B-O-R-D-R-S.
It took me so long to get that.
Then just, I mean, I think I did get it,
but I was just like, well, part of it too
is like anytime I tried to tag your attention
on Instagram, I was like,
what the hell is her Instagram again, too?
I think at one point you weren't really using it for personal stuff.
Yeah.
And then I think Hogan was like, no, this would be the one that you would reach out to on her.
I was like, okay.
Yeah, and then I was told I had to get with the program and get on the social media.
I mean, it does help.
As often as you're with Hogan at all these things that we do,
it's got to be easier to be like, oh, that's that person.
Yes.
So the kind of, the next question is usually just what brought you to Massonomics.
Hogan eventually assimilated you, I guess, but is there any, do you have a story and like your
perspective of seeing him in it and then you eventually kind of, you know, become.
Yeah, I got inundated to the cult, you know, but no, yeah, obviously Hogan joined at first.
We had been together for a while.
I had heard him listening to the podcast.
And then, you know, some big men showed up in our houses sometimes to go to events and
that just kind of snowballed from the podcast.
there. And, you know, we decided that if I'm going to be listening to everything, I might as well
start ranking up the time being a supporting member so I can get my check marks. So that's how I
actually got joined to it and subscribe. Perfect. So we know you live with Big Hogan. So just kind of
tell us where you live, where you're from. I'm actually pretty interested in this because I know
that you used to live in my hometown. So I'm kind of interested to know what happened before that.
Yeah. So I was born in Palm Springs, California, which is in Southern California, but grew up in Redlands, California, which is kind of a smaller city, about an hour outside of L.A.
So grew up still big California city traffic horribleness that we can kind of touch on later, but grew up in California.
Move to Lexington, Kentucky for college. So when I applied for colleges, I was.
only applied to college. It was outside of California because I was ready to leave.
Moved to Lexington, Kentucky, met Hogan in Lexington, and through his match program with
becoming a doctor, we got placed in Louisville. So we were in Louisville for a year, and then
we got placed in Columbus. So we moved to Columbus, and hopefully we never have to go anywhere
else because we are really liking it. But this is our fourth year in Columbus, I think, fourth or
fifth, fourth, I think.
It's crazy. It's been there that long. I think when I met you, I don't even know if you remember, like, we met at home gymcon one in French Lake, right? Yeah, yeah. Because I remember, I was like, his basement Brandon had a thing of like, oh, get a picture with someone in a basement Brandon T-shirt and I'll give you like a $50 gift card or something. And I was like, I saw a dude with the beard that fucking had. Like, I did not know Hogan. I don't think, I don't think Hogan was crew at the time. I don't believe he was. And, you know, you and Steve were there with him. And, uh,
Yeah, that was, that's crazy to think that was almost five years ago.
Yeah.
Pretty fucking wild.
That was a wild first year of Home JimCon.
That was.
I miss French lick.
It was as cool as Louisville was French lick.
I just,
it's an experience to get in on the bottom floor.
Like, it was such a weird hotel place.
It was just fun because it was small.
It was all the things.
I love the escalator down and then just like, as you're seeing it like, you're seeing it like 5% more every time you go down an extra stair, basically.
And it's just like, oh, it's just being able to take it all in.
It's really cool.
All right, big Nicole.
So you've been, you know, you're adjacent for a long time and now you're pretty deep into the crew.
What's that one piece you've seen someone wearing at an in-person event or on Instagram now that you're a big Instagrammer?
You're just like, man, I really want that.
And you were like, Hogan, buy that for me.
And then he had to break the news to you that, like, they do limited drops and they very seldom to cool stuff come back.
And when they do, it sells out.
So what's that one thing that you're like, oh, I really want that someday.
Yeah.
So I've recently gotten into collecting the silly goose shirts because it's a shirt I can wear at work.
Unfortunately, I can't wear anything with like a skull on it as cool as they are.
Or beer.
Yeah, or beer, you know, just not.
Lift shit.
Yeah.
Nice rack.
Might not go over well.
But silly goose, very cool.
Kids like it.
They think it's funny.
But the peach colored, like pink colored silly goose shirt I missed out on.
So I have, I have the.
light blue, but I missed out on the pink.
I really want to keep an eye out for it.
There's a little bit of a secondhand market and some trading that goes on here and there.
So let's see what you can get done.
So you mentioned before that you're kind of getting involved in the Hall of Fame status stuff
and getting your check marks done.
So what's your status right now?
This is.
Oh, dope.
Now, do you have a, speaking of your Instagram,
I don't think. So are you missing the easy one? Are you missing the Instagram?
Or have you posted it? Is there a picture at least with you and Hogan on your,
your, what you consider your personal Instagram?
Yes. Yeah. So that counts. Yeah. There's a picture with a member. I think it's all the
part, like, you know, listen to all the podcasts.
Oh, good deal. I've listened to a lot by proxy of them just playing over the house,
but I would not say I've definitely not listened to. Not sure that's the undertaking. I'll be
getting on to.
So you probably haven't been around long enough for Tanner to tell you what your number is yet.
And I'm assuming you didn't get any of the credit cards.
Okay.
Well, he's been pretty good.
Every now and then he'll, he gets in a lull sometimes where he forgets to do it.
But he's been really good the last few weeks, if not, I say that like he hasn't done it, but I'd have to go back.
Someone has to fact check me because he's pretty regular with hitting people with the numbers if they don't know it.
So hopefully he'll throw that in Discord for you sometime this week.
And so keep an eye out in there.
Cool.
So I know that you have a certified training facility.
I've been in your certified training facility, and I've been in your previous certified training facility.
So if you can just kind of explain your gym and the gym name and are you on gym radar?
Yeah, we are on gym radar.
It's called Vienna Iron Club.
And this is, yeah, 2.0.
So we had the one in Louisville, and now we are in Columbus.
And it's a full garage gym.
No cars in the garage.
that's not what it's for.
It's all gym.
And it's currently undergoing a color blast redo.
It's getting pops of purple there.
But it's primarily strong man.
Yeah, the purple is turning out really cool.
It's really cool.
I've been following along with him.
I don't know if it's going to come up organically anywhere else,
but the video of the bar sauce video.
Oh, God.
Did you see that?
And I was like, oh, bar sauce.
That's probably expired.
like getting extra corrosive now because that's like kabukio and out of business like three years
ago now.
Yeah.
So when I came home that night, I was at dog training and I came home that night and he goes,
walk into the gym.
I said, okay.
Well, that's fucked up.
And yeah, no warning, no explanation.
Just walk into the gym and stand there.
Like, okay.
Like, what am I waiting for?
He goes, does it smell funny in there?
I'm like, what if it did?
What if you're crap?
Thanks, asshole.
It's just VOCs.
Don't worry about it.
It's just poisonous gas in there.
Yeah.
Yeah.
That was good.
I felt so bad for him, hearing the noises.
And he even gave him a warning.
Oh, did he actually pews?
Well, it sounded like he peeped.
It sounded like he peeped.
Yeah.
So I just found it wet.
Yeah.
So getting on this podcast, I'm not sure if you've ever been on another podcast or anything
like that.
But how did you explain people, the U and you podcast when you went to try to get submissions?
So how did that go over?
It's really funny because my friends.
have all confirmed what I already thought, which is my personality is just dogs and teaching
with some other stuff sprinkled in. But obviously, like, the dogs are our children.
But it was really funny because they were like, everything is about dogs. And all my friends
are also dog trainers or dog people. And they're the ones that answer at all. So that was
funny. But I was like, yep, that's my life pretty much teaching and dogs and teaching dogs.
Yeah. Yeah. That's a little hybrid there too. Yeah. Now you have a third leg of your life.
We can. Exactly. And now I'm a famous podcaster, so I'll put that on my resume.
Absolutely. Fair enough. I mean, there are some people that have put on their profile that they've been on here or something along those lines on the IG. So I always get a kick out of when I, when I don't remember that and I see it on their profile. I'm like, oh, that's funny.
And that's also another thing that I think is really cool on Jim Radar for the website link. I actually link the podcast website to my episode. Just, I mean, and you get points for it. Right. So you.
You may as well link something.
So just something like that doesn't have like web, like, you know,
we don't have websites and especially if like that actually links to your profile on you and you,
uh,
on our fireside account.
That's actually pretty smart.
Good man.
Good man.
All right, Nicole.
Got a little,
this is the time for a little first game.
So we've got a reoccurring question.
I like to ask people.
It's called least fun most fun.
So the general gist of this is we're going to give you a single topic and you give me your
druthers and describe the least fun thing about it as well as the most fun and feel, you know,
figure you to elaborate and any funny stories that correspond that make it better.
So least fun, most fun.
Growing up in California.
Oh, okay.
I kind of, I gave a segue into this, but let's see.
Most fun thing.
I'll start with that because I think that's unfortunately the smaller portion,
most fun.
I think it's telling people that you grew up in California now that you live somewhere else.
You know, I tell people, oh, yeah, I grew up outside of L.A.
oh yeah wow cool like how many movie stars did you meet talking down the street i'm like no no no
you know millions of people not like that um but in it's funny every time you know when you're like
the first day of college and they read the syllabus and everybody introduces themselves they're
like your name and your major and a fun fact or like where you're from or a fun fact about yourself
or something and anytime i would say that that was always like ooh you're from california and
you're going to school in Kentucky, like, why?
So I don't know.
I think that's the most fun thing about it is that you get the,
now that you've put in your time,
now you can say that you're from California.
Least fun thing,
picking one.
I would say traffic.
And there's some caveat to that because I think now when I drive,
I am like, traffic doesn't bother me quite as much because I'm just used to it.
but driving, you know, anywhere and it takes at least an hour.
You're bargaining at least an hour just to get around anywhere for anything.
And even growing up, I was into dogs and horses and all kinds of things that required a lot of driving.
And so just having to plan for hours and hours on the road just sitting in traffic going nowhere, all good times.
Is there like really expensive gas prices still, even back then?
Is there a large amount of hermits kind of because of that?
I wouldn't go anywhere.
I would,
if I wasn't forced to go somewhere,
like,
and if it was,
if you told me,
it would take me,
like,
two hours to go to Target and back.
Like,
also follow up before,
like,
do people,
is getting shit delivered,
even a thing out?
Like,
do they have to pay
an exuber an amount of money
for, like,
Amazon packages?
Because it takes the Amazon guy
seven years to get to you.
Like,
I'm just curious of how that works.
Like, Uber eats and stuff.
Like,
how does,
like,
that's very wild of how that would work
with that much,
congestion. Yeah, I can't imagine. And like I said, and then gas prices are so expensive. So you're driving
farther, taking longer, and gas is more expensive. Yeah. I don't know. So that's definitely a small
state I wouldn't want to live in. It was interesting. Like there are some good things about it,
but definitely traffic and it taking so long. So I'm sure we'll get into it. But like dog shows and
horse shows start early in the morning and they're not usually that close. So you're talking about
getting up, you know, hours before to load horses and drive and then just sit in traffic.
Anything other than traffic that was noteworthy for, you made it sound like there was several
things you were debating on for least fun.
I had never seen snow until, like, I shouldn't say that.
We drove up to the snow.
Like we drove, again, we drove like an hour or two, up to the snow up in the mountains.
We lived in, it's San Redino County.
So there's mountains that surround Redlands.
and the cities around it.
So you could drive up the mountains to see snow.
But again, kind of a catch-22,
because when there was enough snow to really enjoy it,
you had to have chains and all the requirements
to go up the mountain.
So we didn't have that.
So the only times we could go up to see the snow
is it was just a little bit of snow
to like kind of, you know, walk around in and go,
ooh, yay, snow.
We live in California.
There is snow.
Hooray.
The singular snow, not the plural snow.
Right, right.
The snow on the ground that you go,
yep, there it is right there.
Cool.
Not the kind of snow you get in big New York.
No, no.
Make a snowball maybe and it's kind of slushy and melting in your hand while you're holding it kind of thing.
How did it, as far as moving, did it take a minute to get accustomed to like a different time zone?
The time zone was okay.
Really the weather, keeping on with the weather thing.
I didn't have a winter coat when I moved to Kentucky.
Like, I never had anything more than a hoodie.
So it was literally we got there and actually graduated high school early.
So I ended up moving out there in January.
So in Kentucky in January and it's cold and icy and snowy and windy.
And so one of the first things we did when we got there actually was go shopping for actual warm clothes.
Because here's me in California girlness and a hoodie.
That's a big move.
So you graduated, you know, a few months early and then just up.
So did you move by yourself then or did your family move and everything?
Um, my mom went with me, but it was just me. It was, uh, me and the dog at the time we had was
Logan. He was a border collie. We loaded him up in the truck and drove across the country. And then at
the time I had two horses and they came a couple weeks later on a trailer. We had them shipped so that I
didn't have to drive a trailer across the country. But that was it. Me and the dog and the two horses and
she dropped us off and said good luck. You took horses to, did you, you took horses to college?
Yeah. And I will thank my mom.
every day because now realizing how expensive that was.
Yeah, I'm like, that's like thousands and thousands and thousands of dollars that is annually.
You know, little me at the time didn't realize.
And I thanked her for it when I found out about it a couple years later.
And I still thank her for it.
You had more horses than you had snow.
She knew it was going to be Lexington, Kentucky.
And there's not a lot of horses there.
So she wanted to bring the horses.
Right.
They're hard to find, really.
Yeah, exactly.
Yeah.
I mean, she probably bought a couple baseball vets, too.
yeah wow it would have been funny if it was Louisville
it was close
it was still good keep
it was funny adjacent it would have been funnier
if it was accurate but you know
it was fine it was fine yeah yeah let's
she's being told it's fine is never fine
I'm fine or it was fine
life hint that it's not fine
all right
so you've hit you've you've hinted
oh not hinted you have said you were a teacher
or is anything as little as much as you want to elaborate
how long you've been
doing that, what grades you teach, highs and lows, anything you want to share about that?
And if you're not comfortable, then we can move on. It doesn't matter to us.
Oh, you're good. So that's a good continuation, actually. So I moved to Lexington with the two
horses and my degree at the time that I was going for was equine management. So I thought that's
what I wanted to do. Like, I had grown up with horses. I wanted to manage a barn. Like, that's what
I was going to do. I was set on it because, you know, you're in high school and you think, you know,
everything you're going to do in life.
Of course.
As I'm sure most people do, it's not how it worked out.
And so about halfway through, I decided that's probably not a good career choice.
And that teaching makes a lot of money and that that's what I wanted to do instead.
No, I'm just kidding.
But got an economics degree instead.
So I graduated from Lexington with agricultural economics.
So kind of kept the agriculture, but a little more stable of a degree, I thought.
And then I got out of college and I went, what do I do with an agricultural economics degree?
I don't really know.
And so I was working at PetSmart at the time, just college job.
And I kind of moved up through Petsmart and I started teaching dog training classes at Petsmart.
I had kind of done, like I said, the dogs all through high school and stuff like that.
And in one of my classes that I was teaching at Petsmart, there was a lady and her husband.
and they had just gotten a new puppy, and they brought their puppy in for dog training classes,
and I was teaching their class.
And at the end of the class, she pulled me aside, and she said, have you ever thought about being a teacher?
You're really good at teaching.
And I said, I have never thought about teaching in my entire life.
I, you know, like, just not even on the radar.
And she said, I have an opening.
I'm the principal at my school, and I have an opening, and I would love for you to apply for it.
And I said, I don't have a teaching degree.
I don't have a teaching license.
I have a degree, you know, and I like teaching, but I've never thought about teaching children.
And so it was an instructional assistant or like an aide position.
So it didn't require a teaching degree.
It just needed a degree, an undergraduate degree.
So I ended up getting hired for that.
I was an instructional assistant for about a year and a half.
COVID hit.
That was 2019.
So right before COVID, so I did it for about a year and a half.
COVID hit. We taught online. And after that happened, she said if you can teach through that,
like you should really consider getting a teaching license. And, you know, if you want to stick with
it now that you've done that, I think it's a good idea. So Kentucky has a program where if you have
a degree and you enrolled to get your graduate degree in education, that will give you like a
temporary license while you're working on it. So I got that. And the puppy wants to come say hi.
My puppies.
So sad.
This is not a video podcast because you can't see the cutest puppy in the world right now.
No, they gave me a temporary license and I worked on my master's degree in teaching.
So I have a master's degree in teaching now.
And I started out for that year teaching kindergarten.
And then I moved on teaching first grade.
And now when we moved to Columbus, I've taught fourth grade.
And this is year seven of teaching total.
So I've been teaching fourth grade for a couple years, but this year is your seven.
That's awesome.
It's a very unorthodox way to get there.
But that sounds like it's maybe not the path you expected, but the path that kind of worked out for you.
And, you know, she seemed very happy in that field.
And that's, that's very cool.
Yeah.
Yeah.
I thank her to this day.
I still text with her a lot, the principal from that school.
And I say, if you hadn't gotten that puppy, is like, that's funny.
I was listening to Jenelie's podcast today or the other day.
and she was talking about the butterfly effect, but it's that butterfly effect.
Like, if you had never gotten a puppy and if you had never brought it into this class,
I promise you in a million years I would never have thought about teaching children.
But I really, really enjoy it.
I really like it.
Very cool.
Awesome.
Very cool.
Okay.
Well, you're lifting history.
Did you, obviously, so riding horses as a youth and into your, you know, early, you know, early, I'm sure, however long you did that, like, that's very athletic.
sport. So did that segue into lifting or were you only doing the horse training? I can't imagine you
sitting in a car for seven hours to go ride horses and then sitting in a car for another three hours to go to the
gym. So, you know, kind of walk us through your athletic slash fitness life story. Yeah. So really,
having horses is kind of not that it's a workout in itself, but it's kind of a workout in itself,
especially like caring for them on their own and things like that, you know, carrying bails of hay and
cleaning stalls and all that. So just very active all throughout my life. And then in college,
of course, you have the college gym and you can go work out in the college gym, the apartment
gyms and things like that. But I really didn't lift until I met Hogan. And at the time that
we met, he had his, I'm sure he's talked about it on his episode, but he was in the apartment
where he had the rack that he had to put together every time that he lifted. And so the first time
he invited me to lift, he had not pre-built it. It was come over. And,
We will carry out the pieces of this rack and we will put it together and we will lift together.
And then we will take it all back apart.
That's why.
That's great.
So that was my first experience actually lifting.
He did like sprinkle in some trips to his college gym at the time so that I didn't have to build the rack all the time.
I think he was trying to like ease me into it while still doing that.
So yeah, he really got me started into actually lifting.
Of course, I worked out, you know, cardio and things like that.
But he was really the one that got got me to use heavier lifting equipment.
That's kind of a cool benefit to have Dr. Hogan there just because it's like, you know,
he's a pretty accomplished power lifter, amateur, strong man in his own right.
And I mean, every question you could possibly have is just, you know, that's great to have at home.
Yeah.
So that's pretty.
Oh, yeah.
He says it's ruined.
He was like, you know, you will never get a better experience than what you can lift in here.
So don't think that this is how it goes.
Like you get the best of the best to start out with and that's not fair.
Oh, absolutely.
Yeah.
So how, I know when you guys were still living at the other house, you would,
when it was either your friend or your coworker would come over and train with you guys,
I think on the weekends or something, is that, is that, do you like that group environment
better or do you kind of like just to go down there and put your headphones in and just kind of
be by yourself?
Like, what's your jam?
Yeah.
When we, I like lifting with friends.
when she comes over, that's really fun for us.
And also helps because we're rotating,
like if we're rotating onto the same rack,
her and I have similar weights that we can do.
So that gives us two rotations for Hogan's,
you know, massive.
Oh, no, I was just going to say
because when it's Hogan's turn,
you guys have to strip all the weight off.
Exactly.
So it's like a workout in itself,
just stripping the bars and putting it back on.
But yeah, so we've all been kind of busy.
Well, her and I,
Hogan's still, you know, on his plan.
But her and I have been pretty busy.
The dogs and I did a lot of trips over the summer
and then kind of getting back into school, just getting back on our routine.
But we're working on setting up a schedule and getting back to it because we really enjoyed it.
Yeah, no, that's awesome.
Stick with that.
It's, even if it's, you know, however often it is, lifting with homies is invaluable.
Invalu?
Yeah. Very valuable.
So you've kind of become a little bit of a grip gal, though, right?
Yeah.
So I think I got bit by the bug.
That was fun.
So, yeah, I did the grip challenge at Lift Hard Live Easy, and I came home.
home and I went, we got to get some little rocks.
We got to walk around and get some rocks, get some stuff.
Because we do have a lot of grip things in the gym already.
But yeah, that was really fun.
The medley was really fun.
The medley was awesome.
I'd never picked up a rock like that before.
That was unique for sure.
It was very fun.
Kurt did a great job putting that together.
He really did.
I know.
I said I definitely want to do that next year and train at it a little more and see if I
get some of the odd things.
It's fun.
How was it?
Will you be a crew falls this year?
Sorry.
No, you're going to.
I am not.
just with the school schedule, that'll never line up, unfortunately, with the time that I can take off.
But definitely a summer trip.
Awesome.
How was doing the grip contest after drinking all that clear liquor the night before?
You were still pretty drunk on Sunday, weren't you?
Yeah.
I mean, when I woke up the next morning and I walked in there, everybody said, man, are you okay?
You.
But how many lifts?
I know Hogan's been to a couple of, you know, I.
It's hard.
Everyone runs together.
So how many times you've been set the codons now?
Twice.
Yeah.
Yeah.
And then he went for crew falls last year.
Did you guys drive?
You guys drove both times, right?
Because you were already out there in Minnesota doing something with the dogs, right?
Yeah.
The first time we drove, we drove with Big Sam, not this past time, but the year before that.
Oh, yeah, two years ago.
Yeah, because you brought the ATX.
Yes.
Yeah.
We brought home Odie.
And then.
Oh, the dead love Jack.
Yeah.
Oh, no.
Odie's the...
Oh, yeah, that's what they named the
pendulum squad.
Yeah, the pendulum squad.
Yeah, we had Mr. Odie.
And then, yeah, this year, so
that was a big trip.
So I was in...
We went to New York for a regional festival
the weekend before that.
So the dogs and I were in New York
for an agility regional.
And then we, me and the dogs
came back home, home for one day
and then took off the next day for Iowa.
told Big Jen, she missed out because we were in Makoka to Iowa right there for her.
But we went to Iowa for the Climb Classic, which is another big event.
So the dogs and I competed that whole week, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday,
and then drove up and met you guys up there.
Oh, yeah.
It's a good time.
And Hogan got to fly out.
So that was nice for him.
He was talking about it was a lot easier on him to compete after.
just flying one day versus having to sit in the car and drive the whole time. So we're thinking
that's probably what we'll do from now on because usually there's some sort of big,
big show that the dogs and I can go to, and then we already have a car out there and all that.
So that was kind of nice. So I do have some breaking news here. I'm sorry to interrupt. Big Hogan
is claiming that you are officially in the Hall of Fame now. You had mentioned you thought you were
only at eight. According to Hogan's big math and bookkeeping, this is 12 for you. So we're going to
say, well, I'm actually going to question this because he, not, not because I don't believe Hogan,
just because I want to see your opinion, because he said some of them are, are household achievements.
So we'll see what cuts the mustard.
So we got, attend the Lifthard-Livisi Classic, yes.
Yeah.
Compete at the Lifthard-Livisi Classic, yes, because you did the grip contest.
Attend the Arnold, yes.
You haven't been to Crewe Falls.
That's a no supporting membership one year and two years.
She's not sure.
I think so, because I've had two years and she's been around at least since I have.
Okay.
owning a drink spotter, well, it's fair.
It is your gym.
So anything, own a piece of band.
A purple one even now.
Own a piece of band merchandise.
There's got to be a banner or a flag in the gym that qualifies, I'm sure.
Placing 10-line orders, I'll count that just because I'm, the collectively, the house counts.
Contest Prize winner, no, your voice on the podcast.
Did they call you?
It was like, were you one of like the six girls in a row?
Because that was awesome.
Exactly.
That came up behind.
That was so great.
That was really up here on you and you.
We did that.
Post a picture with another sporting member on your IG.
We covered that.
Lifted at Massonomics Gym 100%.
And then, yeah, so why the hell did you sendbag?
And, oh, I'm only at 8.
I thought that's what it was.
I had to.
No, it's there's, so there's 16 total.
And I'm going to agree with Hogan.
You're in.
We're just a bunch of Hall of Famers here.
Yeah.
It is true.
Not all Jack about.
I was trying to be modest.
No.
Like my word's not nothing.
But yeah, you're a Hall of Fame.
You're a Hall of Fame.
crew member as of now.
So welcome to the club.
All right.
Get the sound board.
Where's the sound effects?
Um,
um,
um,
so she'll be like number 75 or something like that, right?
Probably than that.
Well,
69 for sure happened at home gymcon.
And I'm,
but it's curious.
It's more a matter of like,
you're not technically,
like,
are you in the Hall of Fame until you get the cup?
Probably not.
So like,
you're going to get the cup.
You'll get the cup.
the cup and create at the Arnold.
So there's people that you might be technically mathematically there today.
But I don't know how's that like do we like the jacket is for sure an in person thing.
The cup's got to be in person thing too.
But can you claim Hall of Fame status before you get the cup?
I think he'll ship a cup though.
Uh, maybe.
I mean, it's not as cooler.
It's not as cool.
You're clearly like he's going to, she's going to see him and at, you know, uh, right at,
at the eagle.
So.
Yeah.
TBD.
But I know.
I've been having withdrawals.
I saw everybody like every couple of weeks for a little while.
And now we have this big lull.
I know.
The time is sad.
Next year I'll just be nicer.
That lift hardly easy and home gymcon are actually like eight weeks apart instead of one.
So that's going to be pretty awesome.
Excited.
As little or as much as you want to share about your weight loss journey, how you got there, how it's going, you know, positive, negative, anything that's come about that.
Yeah.
So, um, total.
I'm down about 60 pounds right now, which feels amazing.
So I'm really happy about that.
I, like, as I turned 30, kind of noticed, like, I'm doing all these things, but nothing is really happening.
So I went to the doctor and I said, you know, what can we do?
Just got blood work done, talked about some options and started GOP1.
And so that has really, like, life changing, absolutely life changing and not.
In the ways that people, I think, don't even realize.
Like, a lot of it was just, like, obsession over food or food noise in the background
has been the biggest helpful piece for me, especially with, like, having a busy schedule,
going from teaching, you know, we get a 25-minute lunch, and it's like, okay, you've got to grab
something and just inhale it really quick.
And then a lot of nights going from teaching at the school to teaching agility classes in the
evening and it was like oh well I'll just run through the drive-thru and grab something so a lot of it
with just changing eating habits um we got the Kroger delivery membership so I just make sure to have
like an ongoing grocery order so that I'm sure like we've been really hooked on the factor
frozen meals they're like high protein real they're really good yeah it's convenient as sure
if anybody needs a recommendation for a good frozen meal they're really hold unpaid yeah get a sponsorship
going because we need it they're they're not the cheapest but
But they really actually taste really good and good macros and everything.
So I just have a bunch of those on order.
So I eat those for lunches most of the time.
That solves a lot of the problem.
Like as far as that just like, oh, cool, okay, I have like 40 grams of protein, 20 grams of carbs and, you know, low fat.
I'm good to go or whatever it is.
It's like they just throw in the microwave.
And yeah, I've got something similar to that, but I don't have microwave access.
So it's like more of a dinner thing periodically.
But I couldn't stoop quite to the rice and ground turkey yet.
So I had to, you know, compromise a little bit.
You haven't gotten into the Garrett's slop yet?
Yeah, not into slop.
That's the worst.
Yeah.
Just whatever you got, just put it in a bowl and microwave it.
Oh, God.
Not there yet.
I'm not that desperate yet.
What was the buying the whole new wardrobe thing, like, that had to be, or did you have,
like, because, like, if me, I've, my weights fluctuated 60, 70 pounds in the last
decade a couple different times up and down.
So I've got, like, four different wardrobes.
I've got, you know, well, I think I finally discard.
discarded all the medium because like I'm never going to be a medium again but I still have like a
large and extra large and a two XL and like you know pants and cargo shorts yeah yeah but I have
essentially at least three different wardrobes depending on if I'm small medium or large and like
stature so how did how was that for you on your new clothes journey yeah and I had to do it like even
going into the new school year because I would be wearing things and you know I would just say
oh my gosh I can't even wear this anymore it just looks you know it's too big it's
off and I think. But it is hard, though, because you don't want to keep those things, but then you know
it does fluctuate. So I think now, you know, it's been almost a year that I've been on it and really
keeping up with the routine and letting myself say, you know, I'm going to keep, I'm going to stick to
this. Like, I've got it into a habit now and kind of letting those things go and realizing that it's okay
to go out and buy, you know, the smaller clothes and fit into that wardrobe. So now I can get all the
silly goose shirts in a meeting. Nice. That's awesome. I know we had, um, it's, um, it's
I just, the coincidence of Big Adam last week has also, you know, had a similar weight loss
journey.
As you are, is not to, more of my ignorance of the topic of, is it something you think that your
doctor will have you be on indefinitely or it'll get to the point that where, like,
you've lost enough and you've had a couple years of like doing the food management and
then it's like, okay, maybe we can win you off this or is it something that's safe to be on for
life. Like I, I, I, I'm not willing, not trying, not asking out of like, I'm trying to pry. I'm just
generally curious because I don't know. Yeah. What we've talked about so far is it is safe to be on for
life and just to monitor it with blood work. So the thing that was kind of the caveat for me is when
I did that blood work when I went to her and I said, like, what can we do? Because I feel like I'm
making a lot of changes and nothing is really happening is I wasn't pre-diabetic, but I was like the
stages before that where they start to get worried about it.
And since then retesting, like all of those numbers have come down and they look really good.
So just like monitoring with blood work, making sure you're doing okay.
And they do have different doses of things.
And I follow whatever she says.
But yeah, they say it's okay to be on it for life.
So very interesting.
I will say, I think when I had, because I've met you a few times over the years and literally stayed in your house a couple years ago too, appreciate that.
you guys have literally the most comfortable spare bed in the world. Like, I don't know where you,
like, I think you bought it in heaven because it's the most comfortable bed in the world. So that's my
favorite part. But I was just getting back to- It's, rooming with Steve's your favorite part.
Don't lie. Fair enough. I do, I was, am I, it would have been Lift Hard-Lavisi this year as
as a first time I've seen you since your dramatic weight loss. I think I didn't recognize you.
Like, if I'm trying to remember the situation, I don't know if you were with Hogan or not, or if I
I saw you like without him and I was just like,
I don't know who this is.
And then I maybe pieced it together as you were like next to him.
And I'm like,
that's,
it was a very dramatic,
um,
like your facial features are just,
you know,
you look several years younger.
So,
and it just feels better.
Like I,
you know,
like of course,
yeah,
I don't get tired as much and stuff like that.
But like,
like you just feel better day to day.
Like it's,
yeah,
amazing.
I would,
I would encourage anyone.
Like,
if you feel like that's something that could benefit you,
definitely talk to your doctor about it.
because I had tried a lot of things and was feeling really discouraged and felt like,
like, this is just how it's going to be from now on.
And it's not.
That's awesome.
Very cool.
What's you got, Brandon?
So one more thing, because I know we've talked about you having, you know,
the V&I Iron Club with Dr. Gagle and, you know, how many times have you had to move that gym?
I think you've said you've had four different iterations of the gym or five different iterations of the gym.
Oh, my gosh.
And how were those experiences?
when you did that?
I said, you know, we bought this house finally.
We weren't renting anymore.
We bought the house.
I said, please, we're going to keep it for a while.
So, yeah, we moved.
He had his apartment gym in Richmond, which was the pieces.
So that wasn't too bad.
He moved it into our house in Lexington.
So that was one.
And then Lexington to Louisville wasn't too bad.
It was close enough that we could make a couple of trips with the cars.
We just kind of did it back and forth of pieces.
So that was the second one. Louisville was hard. Louisville to Columbus was a lot.
We got his dad, thankfully, to drive the big moving truck. But we actually had to rent the even bigger moving truck, not because we needed the space, but because the weight rating needed to be higher.
Oh, yeah.
We added up. The stall mats took up a lot of weight.
When we added it up, we went, oh, man, we need the big, like, you know, semi-looking truck just for the weight rating of carrying all this stuff.
And that was before we had like a thousand kilos of calibrated plates.
I know.
I truly can't even imagine it now.
But yeah, that was the third move.
So, yeah, so now this is the fourth gym.
We moved it three times.
It's here.
And I hope to God we're here for a while.
It looks like a lot.
Did you ever get blinds put in your house?
We did.
We got the blind.
That was a big topic of conversation.
Good.
We'll have to visit again and check it out.
Yeah.
Yeah, yeah.
But the question that I know that you have been like waiting for this entire time,
and I think it's going to make your night, is can you just talk about Pepper and Rogue for a little while?
Yeah, I know.
Any other pets you want to talk about?
Yeah.
So grew up with dogs.
My first agility dog was Logan.
He was a border collie.
I got him in high school.
So I've been doing agility since high school.
So agility, I think most people know, but it's where the dog goes over jumps and tunnels and does the weed pools and all that.
and it's a numbered course that you have to run without faults, meaning without any mistakes,
and you run it for time.
So I've been doing that since high school, so got hooked on the border collies because, of course,
they're fast, and that's what everybody wants in the sport.
Brought Logan out to Lexington.
He just got older, passed away, and I got Pepper.
Pepper is now, he's about to turn six.
So he is my first, I would say, like, high-level agility dog.
Of course, the dog you get in high school and going into your college years, they're your heart dog for sure.
But he's the first one that I actually bought from a breeder.
He's bred for agility, born and raised into agility kind of thing.
So we have Pepper.
He's almost six.
He's a board call it.
And then last year we brought in Rogue, not named after the Rogue store, but just a nice convenience.
And so she will be two in January.
So she's about one and a half.
And so she is a little spitfire.
She's up and coming and giving Pepper Hell.
And then we have two cats.
They hang around.
Not as cool as Keith's cats, but they are cats.
Mine are assholes most of the time.
So I know you have one cat at least that I totally pegged the wrong age
because I was talking to Hogan and I was like,
what is this cat like four years old, five years old?
And he was like, no, it's like, I don't know, he said a thousand or something.
I don't know. How old are the cats?
Yeah.
Leo, he's like 12.
Okay, yeah.
12ish.
Yeah.
And then Layla's like 10.
Yeah.
They're both like mid to older age cats.
Yeah.
I guess that's true.
Yeah.
Which cats live a little longer than dogs.
Cats live so long.
It's crazy.
We said the, we love our cats, but they are not on the renew plan.
We have enough.
And then we got Steve.
Yeah.
Yep.
Steve is always a member of the family and definitely comes traveling with you guys,
especially to the shorter trips, I imagine.
Yeah.
So Steve is our bearded dragon.
He is actually my class pet for my classroom is why we got him.
I got him on a grant for the classroom.
But on the weekends and on breaks, he is home.
So he then travels to all of his adoring gym fans.
That's great.
So does he, and I don't know if you can even tell this, but like, does he ever get, like, overwhelmed at these, like, at home gym con with all those people and stuff?
Is there a way to tell, like, a behavioral difference in a bearded dragon, you know, one day or the next?
Yeah.
Yeah.
I'm not how far they can see, too, because, like, if they can see really far, then that'd be wild to be in a huge room.
But if you can only see a few feet, then it's like, yeah, it doesn't matter.
Yeah, they have pretty poor eyesight.
Like, if you try to feed him by hand, like, the kids like to feed him by hand and he kind of, like, has a hard time with it.
I'm like, you have to, like, put it right in front of his face.
But, um, so you can tell when he gets overwhelmed, the weird thing, he only gets,
you know, is to prey instinct.
He gets overwhelmed with being outside.
Um, like, if, like, a bird flies over or if something is, like, above him, he gets really weirded out.
One time we had him, and he was just on my shoulder and he literally, like, flattened and got
really super dark.
He got, like, almost like dark brown colored.
And he took off running.
Like, he just, I've never seen him move that past in my entire life.
Um, and Hogan and I still talk about it all the time.
was like his fear of birds.
Just that instinct kicked in.
Yeah, exactly.
He was like, well, I'm going to get eaten now.
See you guys later.
But no, nothing like that around people.
And the year that I got in my talk kindergarten,
so he grew up with kindergartners.
And of course, they, you know, we teach them how to hold him and all that.
But he got bounced around and picked up by little hands.
So he is very used to people.
My biggest fear was when he was on me, like, he was just chilling and having fun.
Then he starts crawling around.
I'm like, if he falls, like, is that my, like, it's like, it's like, it's like, it's like,
fucking, like, scurrying around on me and stuff.
Like, dude, don't fall.
Like, they're going to be so mad if you hurt yourself.
It's my fault if you fall off me.
Yeah, you would never live that down.
No.
That'd be so many of, you would, um, so mentioning that you had, you actually had, like,
bought pepper from a breeder.
I'm curious of what that, I kind of want to, I don't know if I want to equate it into, like,
how many pieces of gym equipment that Hogan could have bought with that same amount of money,
or if you even remember how much.
it was. Like, in my head, I'm assuming it's like somewhere between like two and four
gram, but I have no clue. Yeah, that's about right. Probably on the lower end of that.
Okay. So, so, so we talk about there's, there's a jim budget and there's a dog budget.
So it's really like, kind of like anything, well, maybe not with gym stuff. Not quite,
but like the dog is the cheap part, right? Like, yeah. So I teach classes, which kind of offsets
the cost of taking classes, but we take classes and then entering the trials is what's really
expensive. And there's dog equipment that's expensive too. But we got really lucky when we moved to
Columbus that we were able to sell most of the big dog equipment. So we had like a full size dog walk,
which is 12 feet, 12 foot boards, I should say. And there's three of them that go in a row.
We sold the A frame. So we were able to get rid of all the big stuff because there are three
facilities within 15 minutes. And so I just became members of two of them. I teach at one and take
classes at another, and so we can rent those facilities anytime we want.
So I said, you'd be pretty hard pressed to get us to move out of here because that would also
include buying a whole other set of large equipment that has to be outside.
Oh, the H-O-A was.
A pole barn.
You know, I mean, a pole barn is not out of the question.
Is that allowed in your neighborhood or that would be like a different house?
No, we'd have to move.
Yeah.
Interesting, interesting.
So as far as the, with being a teacher, you kind of get your summers to yourself.
Is that when you kind of try to maximize the dog activities and the shows and everything?
Yeah.
You ever take time off to do a show in the winter or anything like that?
Sometimes.
Most trials are on the weekend, so that's kind of nice.
And then, again, just lucky living where we live.
Most trials are within a couple hours driving.
Northern Ohio has a lot.
Pennsylvania has a lot.
Chicago if we want to go a little bit farther. So pretty much if we wanted to and if we made all
the money in the world, he could trial every weekend within a pretty good radius. But yeah,
summer is where we do the big trips. So like going out to Iowa for climb was a really big one and
then New York for the regional. This year we're shooting to go to national. So actually Pepper
and Roga both qualified for nationals. Pevers qualified in agility and Speedway, which is another
sport and then Rogue is qualified in Speedway and that's down in Georgia. So it is during the school
year. I'm going to take a couple of days off. And if anybody asks, I'm going to be sick.
So, oh, yeah, 100%. How does anybody listening? I'm going to be sick in April. But yeah,
we're doing that. And then the next year, it's actually in Nebraska. So we're going to go out to
that one. But yeah, summer is where we take our big trips. And we'll shoot to qualify for
nationals whenever it's something in the summer.
very cool how do the two dogs get to get get along with each other can do they both have like a
competitive edge or they're at their house they just like I guess how do you shut off like doing work
and being the show dog and doing the agility than just being like an at home chill dog yeah so we joke
because pepper seems like he would be the the more chill one but he's actually the one that has a
harder time settling down in that house so rogue who is an absolute fire rocket spitfire she looks like
a crazy tornado out there and everybody goes, oh my God, how do you live with her? But she's
asleep at my feet right now, just hanging out. So she has a really good off switch. She just,
when she comes in the house, she's done other than trying to herd the cat sometimes. But, yeah,
for the most part, when they're in the house, they just shut off. They really have, they, they know the game
and they know when the game was done. And then Pepper sometimes makes his own game of doing whatever
he wants to find. But yeah, for the most part, they just settle down. Rogue runs the house, the girl.
always run the house, right?
Usually goes better that way.
Yeah.
Yeah. Pepper has figured that out very quickly, actually.
What can I do to help you?
How do I not get in the way?
Yeah, but no, they get along really well, but she definitely runs there.
That's awesome.
So I don't remember if we didn't cover, like, once you moved out here with the horses and everything,
like what happened to the horses where, you know, how was their journey?
Yeah.
they came really easily.
They came on a, like a trailer where they have a box stall so they can just move around.
So they're not tied up.
They can actually like loosely move around in the stall.
So they only took them a couple of days driving.
And they were great.
One of them did unfortunately have an injury that ended up.
He didn't make it through that.
That was just a fluke thing, something that happened out in the field to one of his legs.
And unfortunately, horses in their legs are not great endings.
And then our other guy, he just got older.
He was great.
He was running around till the last day.
So that's kind of nice when they just.
And I said, well, that's good.
And they're both thoroughbreds.
So I was like, all right, thoroughbreds in Lexington, Kentucky.
You got the bluegrass.
You got to run around the fields.
It was a good end of their life.
Absolutely.
It's good.
And probably got into a slightly, as expensive as Pepper was or Rogue was,
which I can't imagine it pales in comparison to what,
Like trying to do something similar with horses would cost you if you were
with horse shows every week and trying to stable horses.
It'd be so dramatically more expensive.
Yeah, we talk about that all the time.
And like, of course, you know, in high school and college, your parents help you out a lot.
But I cannot imagine doing that on my own.
And so, like, of course, I'm happy that that was a part of my life.
And I'm not saying dogs are cheap and especially doing dog shows is not cheap,
but it's definitely much more manageable.
And also having them at your house because paying to board horses in,
Kentucky or anywhere when they're not on your property is ungodly expensive.
Do you and Hogan have a meet cute? I don't know if we've ever been, I don't know if he
elaborated on how you guys, you know, met or got together the beginning of your
relationship or anything. If that's something, anything you want to share about or, you know,
I know you guys recently got engaged too. So I don't know if there's anything you wanted to,
you know, any updates on any of that you wanted to share with the friends and family.
Yeah. We are the success story because we
on Bumble on the online app.
Because girls get to pick.
So I guess I had a good pick, right?
Girls get to initiate the conversations on Bumble.
Was it the beard that did it?
It was, yeah, I said, it was funny.
He jokes with me because I said, it looked like he had his life together.
And that was at the point where he, like, kind of didn't have his life together.
He was getting ready to, like, move a bunch.
It took a half hour to build a squat wreck every time we went to work out.
I don't know if that's together.
Yeah, yeah.
I figured he had, like, a shirtless, like, oiled up picture on that.
there like a boxing or something.
Like heavy in the gym, like his show photos.
Yeah.
That's right.
No, yeah.
So, yeah, we met on Bumble and then we got engaged on 4th of July last year.
And so we're planning on it.
We want to do one of the national parks for our wedding.
So kind of the bookings, you have to book it a little bit farther out.
Well, that'll be cool.
should be a good good time.
I wasn't,
because what's funny too is I'm pretty sure you're,
you're,
you're in my phone as Nicole Gagel and I'm like,
I know that's not right,
but it's just like,
it'll,
she'll be a gaggle before too long.
So it's like,
I know that's,
I think at the time I didn't even,
I wasn't sure you were guys,
if you guys were married or not too.
And it's just like,
like a couple years later,
we get you on the podcast.
I was like,
oh, here's her number.
Like,
oh, it's already in my phone.
And I was like,
oh,
as, as gaggle.
You can,
you can correct him in the pronounce.
I was going to say, when I take the last name, would you say it correctly?
No, well.
You got to do it out of respect for a big Nicole.
Well, when it's her, when it's her name, when it's her name, we'll get her back on when it's, you know, giggle, gay, gay.
You had it.
Yeah, you had it.
I thought you said it a little wrong earlier, too.
Oh, did I?
Did I say it wrong earlier?
I don't know.
Maybe it's just my inflection of it.
I don't know.
That's, I, uh, I could, I could, I mean, it's definitely like, I did say it wrong, like nine times and 30 seconds, though.
Yeah, I think it's one of those last names that like, you know, 10, 10 people across the United States might have that last name and they, like, five of them might pronounce it differently.
So, you know, it's, I can see it. But I thought I'd just poke fun at you a little bit for it.
Well, you're one of the other, one of the few happily dinked up couples, too. Um, that's something you guys are, you know,
know, I know Hogan just had his vasectomy or is getting his vasectomy soon, I believe.
So, you know, I'm in that same boat at some point here in the future.
So it's nothing wrong with it.
We're just different.
We're not better or worse than you because we don't have kids, everybody.
It's just a little bit different.
Everyone's got their own course of life.
They want to go down.
And it's just where we went.
Yeah.
Nope.
He had it.
It's done.
We're done.
We got plenty of pets to fill that time.
But no, we really enjoy our hobbies.
We like having time, you know, to do that.
And that's not obviously against anyone that has kids too.
We just like doing what we do.
Heck yeah.
So how's that cricket?
Who's putting all that working on those stickers and crew cards?
How much are you helping him out with that?
Or are you just like, God damn it, Hogan, are you doing more stuff that I have to help you with now?
We're pretty much caught up.
It was good.
It was a little rough for a while with the crew cards.
Getting that whole unlimited set out was a lot.
So I got to spend the end of my summer cutting all the crew cards, slaving away on the cutter.
No, Hogan does all the designs.
And then some crew chipped in on a really nice printer, which was awesome.
So we print them all here.
And then I cut all the cards and then we kind of pack them together.
Did your love of Pokemon help him?
Did you help inspire him to come up with this whole idea?
I know.
I don't know.
So for Pokemon, and if anybody follows Pokemon, like the card collecting scene is crazy right now.
People are just buying and reselling it every fucking day.
Yeah.
Yeah.
People are just reselling it for crazy prices.
And, you know, of course, everybody who grew up in the 90s and around that time wants to open cards because that was like what we did in our childhood.
And so I still wanted to collect cards.
So I decided I'm going to collect all the dog Pokemon, but I'm not going to open any packs.
So we get to go to card shows and we can look through.
and I still have something to collect, but most of the cards are like 10 cents or 50 cents or a dollar.
Like the most expensive cards, like there are some ones that are really expensive,
but the most expensive cards usually are like $10.
So it's still fun to, you can collect a lot of them.
You can still have the hunt to find them,
but you don't have to spend hundreds of dollars opening a pack to not.
Yeah, I don't know.
Maybe he was inspired.
Yeah.
I'll tell everybody was your idea, not his.
I mean, anything to, you know, give Nicole more kudos in the crew, you know,
got to knock Hogan down a peg or two every now and then, right?
Yeah, the teaching skills for the cutting, I think he's using it because I also have to cut
anybody who makes their gym sticker, anybody who hands this sticker.
Oh, God, don't get started on fucking not symmetrical or square or something.
Hey, that's my gym sticker you're talking about.
Yeah, I was going to use this podcast as a platform, actually.
If anybody's thinking about making a sticker and you do the bubble,
wrap around a million little lines, those of us who have to cut them into magnets.
So line is actually the shape of Kentucky.
And if you know the shape of Kentucky.
That's not the worst.
It's probably like one of the most jagged shaped states in the continental U.S., I would say.
But yeah, I could see it not being the way.
Those of you who make square stickers, I love you.
Circles are easy to cut out too.
Yeah, circles are pretty good.
But not circles with like fucking hemorrhoids on the sides of them.
those are still annoying.
It's a good visual, Keith.
Speaking of good visuals here,
Hogan did a lot of pictures behind your back
with the engagement ring leading up
into the proposal.
Is there, you know, any elaboration there?
If anyone missed that?
Yeah, I didn't know.
I didn't see any of those.
It was good.
Oh, he never showed you after the fact or anything.
Like, he didn't go take it on a timeline of like,
remember we were here? Here was the ring.
He just has these pictures and never showed you.
Yeah.
I've seen the pictures, but yeah.
Oh, okay, okay, okay.
I don't know.
Maybe you're ruining a wedding thing right now.
Oh, God.
I mean, it's...
I'll blame it on you if it is.
It was submitted in your show notes.
I can only ask...
No, no, then you're fine.
I'm sure.
No, no, this was not a...
Oh, my gosh.
...sourcey thing.
Oh, shut up.
I didn't do anything wrong.
No, that isn't...
There goes my invitation.
I'm out of the wedding.
I have one if you're good of Keith.
So...
Love you to chip out.
The apparently you did an olive eating challenge.
Did you talk about that a little bit and what happened?
What actually led up to having an olive eating challenge?
What type of olive?
Oh my God.
I actually don't even remember.
I'll have to ask Hogan.
Maybe we can do a follow up on what started it.
I think we just watched somebody eat olives and they were talking about how they didn't like olives.
And so when I met Hogan, funny story, I was probably the pickiest eater a lot.
And like, I know a lot of people say that, but like I had never had pepperoni.
pizza. Like, I just ate cheese pizza and plain cheese, but like that, that's what I lived on.
And so through, through us being together, like, obviously, I've tried these foods, but we were,
I think we watched somebody that said they didn't like olives. And I was like, oh, I love olives.
And he looked at me like, you're kidding me. Like, you don't eat anything and you like
olives. Out of all the things that you would like, yeah. Out of all of the things. Yeah. And,
but growing up as a kid, that's how I liked my pizzas was cheese pizza with black olives. Like,
That's what I would like on it.
And so he was like, how many olives do you think he could eat?
I was like, oh, I could eat a can of all.
It was easy, like nothing.
And he was no way.
And so we, that night, we went to the store and we bought a can of black olives.
And, yeah, I did it easy.
I mean, like under a minute, I think I had the whole can of, you know, olives.
Do you also like green olives?
No, so I don't like green olives.
Okay.
See, I like both, like quite a bit.
And like when I go to like one of those weddings that have like an olive bar, like that's my favorite
Yeah.
So which I know it's probably wasted on a lot of people because usually it seems like people like either or, you know, black or green.
But yeah.
So that's pretty, that's pretty good though.
Oh, let's see.
Do you speak any other languages?
Yeah.
So growing up in California, I have a good, good spanglish going on.
And I and I got to keep the namesake for a little while, the last name Ortiz.
You know, I know enough Spanish to get by, but I usually say I understand it better than I speak it.
So I can hear somebody having a conversation and understand it, but I can't really carry on a conversation with you.
Like, I can give you a general, general sayings.
So yeah, some Spanish enough to get by.
And then in college, I took three years of American Sign Language.
So pretty proficient in that, again, enough to have a conversation or use it for something.
Yeah.
Awesome.
What is this quest for the perfect donut all about?
And how has that journey been?
And I'm assuming it's a road less traveled now with the new lifestyle.
Yeah.
Oh, yeah.
Now it's a bite, a quest for the perfect bite of a donut.
Okay, fair.
No, so growing up, we had this little mom and pop donut shop called Karen's Donuts.
And she had a cake donut, the round cake donuts with white frosting and rainbow sprinkles.
and it was my favorite thing.
And when I moved to Lexington,
I couldn't find a donut shop that made donuts like Karen,
like little Karen in her mom and pop donut shop.
And so every time we go somewhere, we try the donuts.
And a lot of times they don't even make a cake donut
with white frosting and rainbow sprinkles
because it has to be white frosting and rainbow sprinkles.
It can't be anything else.
So, like, I'm sure Hogan will post the video soon,
but we went to North Market and we tried
their donuts and they actually had a white frosting rainbow sprinkled cake donut.
It was not the perfect donut, but it's close.
So anywhere we go, we try to find one that's like Karen's donuts, but haven't gotten there yet.
So is there any like donut chain that would have anything like that you would consider
somewhat close or is it like, yeah, go ahead.
Sorry, I was going to say, actually, you have one kind of close and I'm kind of sad we left it.
So North Lime donuts and there's one in Louisville.
Oh, I've never been there.
Stop, your line.
Never been.
Okay.
Well, now you have to go.
That's what you do in the morning before you go to work.
Okay.
No, it's called North Lime Coffee and Donuts, I think.
But there's definitely one in Louisville because it's funny you say that.
When we were coming back from Home GymCon this year, we stopped and got a box to bring back to Columbus.
Oh, cool.
Yeah, I'll definitely try to make it out there then.
That's awesome.
So they don't have the white frosting rainbow sprinkled donut all the time.
They kind of that rotating menu.
So it was fate when we went after Home GymCon.
they had them so we brought a whole box home.
But they're pretty close.
They're one of the closest ones that I've found.
While we're still on food there, someone had submitted that you,
you kind of know all the hacks and the tricks to get all these secret menu items from fast food.
I'm sure that's not something you're doing now,
but is there, if you had to like, you know,
reminisce of a couple, like, recommendations for someone still on that fat life journey
of you got to try this with this sauce or this secret thing here,
what's that one or two things?
you got to suggest?
So you have to get the app.
The app has all the secrets.
That's how you can make all your modification.
Easy to customize for sure.
Yeah, exactly.
So like especially, you know, Taco Bell where you can like add,
add and remove things and stuff like that.
But my favorite one is Chick-fil-A.
You can get the cheese sauce as a side.
And so you can do cheese sauce with your fries instead of real sauce.
Oh, no, I had the cheese sauce.
There's just like, like, like, their liquid cheese.
She's liquid gold.
Okay.
Liquid gold.
I don't, I'm trying to think what they even, like, what regular item even has a cheese?
I don't know.
I don't know if it's their, I was wondering if it's their mac and cheese, maybe?
I don't know.
It's not, it's not like nacho cheese like that, but it is that liquid cheese, but it's so good.
I might have to fat, fat hack that up next time I'm a chat.
Right.
What do we get?
A couple more things.
Anything else jumping out at you before we move on?
Yeah, so it says here, like it, somebody said that you just have the most badass tattoos.
So what would you say is your favorite tattoo?
And is there any story behind your tattoos in general?
Or is it just whatever kind of, you know, struck you to get at the time?
Or is there like actual stories behind your tattoo?
Yeah.
Some of them have stories and some of them don't, which I feel like is pretty common.
It's like you get ones that mean something.
And then you're like, actually, I'm like,
more tattoos. It's okay to just like tattoos. Yeah, exactly. So some of them have meaning. So I've got
some script on my forearm that's from a friend that passed away in high school. So something that we
would always say to each other was really nice to keep some memories. I would say my favorite one,
I have a realistic portrait of our first dog, Logan, and that's pretty big on my thigh.
and the artist is amazing.
And she's actually, she did the one on my thigh.
She did my whole sleeve.
She's done Hogan's sisters tattoos and Hogan's brother-in-law's tattoos.
So we really like her.
She's in Versailles, Kentucky, actually.
It's a white dog tattoo if anybody is looking for anything.
But yeah, so we really like her.
But that's my favorite.
It's a portrait with flowers of our first dog, Logan.
It's really good.
Awesome.
So as a veteran of attending Lift Hard-Livisi and Home JimCon,
what is you any comparing and contrasting or suggesting one over the other or like the highs and lows of each?
Or if you had to sell someone on one, I guess, I don't know,
it's just as someone that's been to both, just curious of your thoughts.
Yeah.
I think if you had to pick one, I think I would say Lift Hard-Live-Easy just for the friends and the,
not the party aspect, not that it's a, I mean, it is a party,
but just more hanging out with people and getting to know people.
I think Home GymCon is good.
It was so big this year.
I felt like maybe we didn't see as many people as we had in the past,
which is kind of a good and a bad problem, right?
We were happy that there was more stuff to do and more booths there and things to see,
but maybe we didn't see quite as many people.
Not that we hadn't just seen you guys the week before, but maybe it's some years in the past.
Yeah, it's you guys again, you know.
But that we didn't maybe see or spend quite as much time with people as we had in previous years.
So I think if you had to pick one, I would pick Lift Hardly Easy.
You also get to go to South Dakota.
Nothing like going to South Dakota.
It was interesting having it a week apart, though.
I guess it was like 10 days.
It was like 13 days.
Well, yeah.
Well, I guess, well, technically, I think I, yeah, if people left, theoretically there might have been someone that left.
If you left on the Sunday and came back on the Wednesday, it's like.
Yeah, because I did, I think I got there.
When would you, did you pick me up Wednesday or Thursday?
It was been Thursday.
I think it was Thursday.
So, yeah, I would have been.
I picked up Tommy and Tanner on.
I got home Monday morning.
I mean, I left Sunday afternoon, but I didn't get home until like two in the morning
on Monday or something or one in the morning on Monday.
And then I left at fucking 5 a.m. on Thursday, like a week and a half later.
Yeah.
It was like the first time that your flight didn't get screwed up, right?
Yeah.
It was, knock on wood.
That wasn't bad.
So I remember what happened when Brandon showed up to Hogan's house with the code.
Did you get that story secondhand from anyone?
Or have you heard the story of Brandon's breaking and entering?
It showed up with a what?
Oh, the code?
Yeah.
Have you heard that story?
No.
Oh, it's exciting.
Yeah.
So this past Arnold, as you know, you and Hogan went and picked up those plates for me at Rogue, okay, which I'm very appreciative still to this day, a dollar a pound for Rogue.
Calibrated plates is nothing to sneeze at.
That's a pretty good deal.
So we kind of coordinated that I don't remember the day.
It was probably on Saturday morning, I guess, probably.
Well, you and Hogan had friends staying the night because you were going to go out with
them or whatever.
And I never saw you that morning.
So we dropped by in the morning, and this was at your previous house.
And Hogan said that he wasn't going to be there.
So it was like, I don't know what time.
We'll say 9 a.m.
He's like, I won't be there yet.
I won't still be there.
Like, we'll already be at the convention.
So here's the code.
Just come on in.
So it's big Jakey and I.
He was gracious enough to ride with me.
Come pick these up.
Help me load all these plates into my truck.
And we were also going to just tour the gym while you all were gone.
You know, just kind of open the garage up and hang out for a few minutes.
Well, so we're trying to get the code in.
And there's a couple times.
I don't know if I'm putting in the wrong.
or something like that, but it's not working.
So eventually, Jakey comes in, he's like, you know, he works his magic and we get in,
and we open the door and you previously lived in a split level home.
So, you know, like if you walk in the foyer, as you know, staircase going up, staircase going
down, well, as soon as we open the door, there's a couple standing at the top of the steps.
And they look down at us and they're just like, I mean, they genuinely believe that we are
intruders, I think. And I have the door open eight inches and my head's like poking through.
So that's like even worse, right? Like it looks like you guys aren't intimidating looking or anything.
Right. That's like two, two, two hundred plus pound dudes, you know, six foot two and above walking in.
And then there's this, you know, this couple up here. And I assume there are a couple. I shouldn't just assume that.
But they're just, they immediately kind of look frightened, you know.
And then Jakey, and I'm like dumbfounded, like can't respond to the situation.
I just freeze up.
I'm just ready to shut the door and text Hogan.
Like, you can keep the plates.
I'll send you the money.
Like, whatever.
And, but Jakey, like, you know, he's kind of more businessy, business savvy than I am.
So he walks in, he explains the situation and everything.
And I believe Hogan was in the shower.
So Hogan comes down.
He actually helps us finish loading the plates and shows us the jam and everything.
but it was a really funny story at the time.
I think I,
I think that we had shared it at the time, but.
Yeah,
I laughed so hard when he told me.
That was fun.
That was really fun to revisit though just now.
Yeah, I was trying not to forget that.
Speaking of the old house,
that's when you guys did the,
the ongoing Instagram segment that I think Hogan kind of canceled or hasn't
had time to get back into it.
So do you want to, do you want to share that with anyone that maybe
wasn't following you guys a couple years ago?
Yeah.
So it was a segment called,
Am I sleeping in the home gym tonight?
And it was introducing pieces of equipment
that he has bought or got in some way.
And I would guess what it's for
and how much he paid for it and how much it was worth.
And we would decide if he was sleeping in the home gym.
And I believe he canceled it
because he is now afraid that he might have to sleep in the home gym.
It's gotten too extreme.
Yeah, yeah. I think he's trying to keep it a secret. And he knows that you guys will out him if he doesn't give the right numbers on it.
That's fair. That is true. Now that you're a big social media gal, that's, you know, he can't. Right. I'm too connected now. He can't hide it. I mean, you're our friends now too. So you're not just a Hogan's girlfriend or a fiance. You're like, oh, that's just, that's Nicole. She's one of the one of the crew. So we're not going to lie to you. No, we talked about actually a nice dial.
motion box just showed up on the porch today.
So what do you think, Keith?
Do you want to start some games here?
Yeah, I'm trying to think of anything else wouldn't fit into a segment.
Oh, good call.
Okay, here's a couple.
All right.
Is there a time where Hogan flew out to Arizona to help you move back across the country?
Is there a funny story or is that just, or no, it's more of the timeline, I think, of why it's kind of a joke.
Yeah, so that was kind of weird talking about when we were watching that video today about how hot it was in Arizona.
So Hogan and I hadn't been dating for that long because I had already had this trip planned actually.
And so I drove out to California with we just, I just had pepper at the time.
So it was pepper and I.
And on the way back, like I made it to California, stayed in California.
It was on the way back.
And in Arizona, the car broke down right outside of Phoenix.
Like just completely nothing died.
had to have it towed.
And so got into Phoenix, got it to the shop, and they said the transmission blue.
You can either buy a new car or you can buy a new transmission and it will take us about a
week to get it fixed.
And I was like, well, I was supposed to be back in a couple of days.
You know, like I don't really have a week to sit around and all that.
So, yeah, it kind of solidified Hogan and I together when I called him and I went,
any chance you could fly out to Arizona, help me buy a car, and then drive, help me get through
purchasing a new car in one day and drive back across the country. And he said, let me look at my
schedule. See how my patients are. And yes, I will do that. So he packed a bag and got on a plane
and flew to Arizona. And yeah, we bought a new car. Define not together long. I'm like,
are we talking like three weeks or three months or I'm just curious of
a ballparker two months oh damn it's like eight weeks yeah like nothing that's that's
commitment that yeah and it's like on both ends too because it's not just that he dropped
everything to do it it's like you being like I guess this is my guy I'm gonna see I need help
like that's that's cool both ways and that's yeah and it was fun so later you guys are still
you know kicking yeah yeah and then we ended up making it was kind of more fun actually
because then we ended up making more of a trip out of it.
We stopped more along the way and took a couple days here and there.
So it was like, okay, cool.
I guess I'm taking a $30,000 loan for a car or whatever it is.
But also, like, now I have to sell this piece of shit for like $500 before.
For nothing.
Yeah.
It's like the dealership knows, you know, they know.
Oh, she traded it in.
Okay.
Yeah.
Gotcha.
Yeah, we just traded it.
Because, I mean, it's not worth any.
And they know that.
Like, I can't sell it.
I can't stay here.
So they got me.
But it's what it is.
Moral of the story is
Hogan is a freaking dreamboat
Yeah, exactly
The moral of the story is sucks for everybody else
He's his team
He is yours
I don't know
Sounds more like Nicole was worth
Putting the effort into
She was putting in the work
To, you know, to lock down Nicole
It seems more like what I'm taking
Away from the story
I think most of the other things
We can shoehorn into you and you
If we didn't cover anything that's really
Other, okay here's one
I don't know how to fit this in
So just sounds
like you're terrible at describing famous people or the names of famous people.
Oh, yeah.
Watching, listening to you describe a movie or someone is just, is amusing.
It's terrible.
I'm so bad at it.
And it's so I can't remember their name.
Like the name is just gone.
That's not even, that's not even on the table of remembering the name.
But trying to describe what movies they're in or what they look like is comical.
And Hogan has a good time trying to guess what I'm trying to talk about.
So do you remember the characters that they play?
Or is it just like all like blank?
Like he was in a movie about this or okay, I got you.
So bad.
I'm like, yeah, you know, the guy and he was like chasing after the, you know,
the girl that was making you get away from this.
And he's like, and sometimes he'll go, oh, yeah, such and such a movie.
I'm like, I don't know how you got that.
Yes, that's what it was.
Yeah, Emily will do that sometimes.
We'll be watching a show and she'll be like, uh, she's famous, right?
and I'm like, yeah, it's
freaking, you know, like it's
somebody really obvious. It's Sandra Bullock.
You know, like, yes, she's famous.
Like, yeah.
Have you heard of speed?
Yeah.
It came out before you were born, but it's a movie.
That's right.
We like the Amazon feature where you can pause it
and it tells you like what movies they're in.
Yeah. Yeah.
But then he likes to make me guess
before he'll get.
Okay, what have you seen him in?
I can't wait to play that game.
I'm there, this for crew for the Arnold next year.
That'll be fun.
Oh, God.
One brief side thing, just because we were talking about shows and movies, essentially.
Today on the video, the older gentleman kept referring.
He was like, basically, you could tell he didn't listen to the podcast, I don't think,
but he was like he watches their YouTube content.
And then he was referencing other people's YouTube content.
But in saying, like, this influencer or like Gluck or Brandon or garage him,
he kept referring to him as the shows.
As in like the home gym shows, like, is what's on his YouTube.
And it's just, it's just funny of like someone only like 20 years older than me,
just like being so kind of like disconnected and the vernacular, I guess,
was just kind of chuckling of the shows.
So, I don't know, I guess him and Nicole will have a lot in common.
All right.
Yeah, do you, what do me say?
The order I got messed up here.
So, yeah, you do.
Yeah, do Mount Rushmore.
Yeah.
Then we'll do an affiliate and then we can get into you and you.
All right, cool.
So I got a couple little Mount Rushmore's here for you.
I'm assuming you know the rules to this game.
No?
Okay, so I'm going to give you a category and you're going to just name them like your top four of this category.
Okay.
So the first thing that I'm going to do, and I'm going to go out on a limb here.
And I can change the question a little bit if I need to.
But what is your Mount Rushmore of horror films?
Okay.
And I can narrow it down a little bit if you do.
This is so bad.
See, this is playing into the thing of like, I know what the movies are, but what are they called?
Okay, okay.
Or to be a better describing, like, scream.
Yeah, yeah.
Or it could even be like.
No, it's the Annabelle movie, the doll.
Okay.
So those, like the conjuring series?
Yes.
Okay.
So the Conjuring series is up there.
They go in order?
No, it doesn't matter.
It's just top four.
Okay, yeah.
So the Conjuring series, Terrifier.
We're really into the Terrifier movies.
Those are really good.
We've seen a lot of them.
Probably those, as in the other ones from those same series.
Okay.
Yeah, so this was, the example here was top terrifier film.
So I was going out on a limb that you had seen other similar movies.
Yeah.
But instead I'll just kind of segue into a different question.
art the clown can you kind of explain him because there's not a lot i mean i feel like either people
love these movies or they absolutely despise these movies uh so what do you like about the terrifier
movies is it the actual character of art the clown or is it the setup or the the gruesome kills
or what is it that you like no it's art the clown he's hilarious and i think you have to be
not serious with yourself like you can't be too stuck up and go well that's stupid why would it
go like that.
Like that's,
then that's not the movie for you.
Don't watch it then.
But he is hilarious.
And I like the like juxtaposition of like,
they'll be brawling and like punching each other and fighting.
And then there's one scene where,
you know,
she actually like stabs him or something like that.
He's actually kind of injured.
And then all of a sudden he just pulls out a gun and shoots her.
And he's like,
all right,
well,
that's enough of that.
Moving on.
It's like,
okay.
So you're just having a good time and then, you know,
and then what's got to be done is done.
So that's cool.
Yeah.
So you like the fact.
Yeah, that it's not taken too seriously.
Yeah.
Yeah.
And just his facial expressions are great.
The way, like the actor is phenomenal.
And there's even, like, we watch videos of the actor when he goes to, like,
festivals and stuff outside of, you know, outside of the movie.
Like when he does, like, crowd meeting and stuff.
And he's the same character, like, outside of the movie, too.
It's great.
That's kind of like another, kind of like Freddie Kruger, like only one character or one actor
can truly portray that character.
Yeah.
And it would be thrown off.
so much if it was a different actor.
Yeah, absolutely.
So let me give you a little bit more of a softball here.
Mount Rushmore of dog breeds.
And I know that, you know, I'm not saying that you're excluding the other dog breeds like
you hate them, but what's your top four favorite dog breeds?
Yeah.
So Border Colley's got to be at the top up there, just agility-wise.
Australian Shepherds or Aussies also up there, big fluffy.
also fast, good for agility.
Dog I've always wanted to have, also really popular in agility, are papyons.
They're like a smaller breed dog, but still kind of that same fast, speedy workaholic kind of thing.
And then we think our next dog is going to be not necessarily for sport, but just because I have to give in and give Hogan a house dog here and there between the crazy sport dogs.
Corkeys also got to be up there.
Okay.
So yeah, we have a, at my house, we have a rescue.
And that's one thing I remember about during home gym con.
We had a lot of people over to lift and see the gym.
And I just remember the whole time you were like had my mixed breed dog just like in your midst.
Like, and his name's Gunner, but you were just like, it seems like you were just attracted that dog more than anything else in the gym.
And I was like, I appreciate that.
Like, you know, she's, she's her own person here.
Yeah.
My dog are so much better than people, you know.
Absolutely.
So I think we can all agree on.
Yeah, we do have a trade-off, though.
We say two sport,
Hogue and I have agreed,
two sport dogs for every pet dog.
So we've got two sport dogs,
so then the next one will be a pet,
and then we can,
don't,
not that they don't cuddle,
but they're very,
you know,
they know what their job is.
So he wants a couch potato
of a dog.
And I,
I just,
that dog's going to be so different, too.
Yeah.
Just,
what are you all doing?
I know,
he's like,
why are you guys?
Why don't we just lay on the couch?
Yeah.
That's what my dog does very well,
just lay on the couch and jump up on people when they walk into the front door.
So I'm going to hit you guys with some affiliates here.
Remember for all your belt needs.
So we were talking about Home GymCon earlier.
I actually wore a belt-fed strength belt and pulled a deadlift PR.
So code unpaid will save you money at Belt Fed Strength and Home GymCon for next year.
So when you go and try out that belt-fed strength belt at the booth,
remember code unpaid and also Jim Radar
this just in now till the
the year Code Unpaid gets you a free account on Jim Radar
Nice
All right, one last question before we get into unpaid or underrated
This is a newer one of we just been
You know we kind of stole this from one of the other podcast
episodes recently and I've been running with it
So this is a personal question for you
You answered how you want interpret really however you want
but what is the greatest single feat of strength you've ever kind of performed or accomplished?
What are you the most proud of in your strength journey?
I had a deadlift PR at the first lift hard live easy, and that was really cool on the raised deadlift.
Oh, yeah, we did a 15 inch axle deadlift maybe or something along those lines.
Yeah, so you competed in, you can, I forgot, I wouldn't say I forgot, but you did actually compete in the first,
the inaugural strongman show right yeah well of the the newer era you know of the of the you know jake's era of
strong man yes yeah so i had a PR on that which was really cool because that was the first
meat that i had ever done also so to get a PR at a meet was cool so that's something all i'll remember
forever but so do you i'm sure you're the answer might be no but do you remember what the number was
no ah so you could have
You could have said 700 pounds.
Right.
It was $450.
Yeah.
So put it in the book.
It's on iron podium.
We'd have been like, whoa.
All right.
So the final little game we like to play here on our end.
So unpaid or underrated.
We're going to give you somewhere between six to eight individual topics.
And you kind of have to use your druthers and decide if it's an unpaid item, which is overrated.
Nobody wants to be unpaid.
It sucks.
And then underrated would be great.
So unpaid or underrated.
Let's go big weddings.
Oh, unpaid.
I'm sorry if you like big weddings.
I know that's not a popular choice all the time,
but maybe it's part of being a dink too is like we just have a different idea of how we want to spend our money and things we like to do.
But thankfully, yeah.
Define big wedding for you, though, because some people might interpret that as like more than 20 or some people might consider that more than 100?
I'd say that more than, like more than 40.
Okay.
Like 50 plus is big, I would say.
Yeah, that's fair.
Good deal.
Yeah.
Let me scroll up to the top.
Okay.
Unpaid or underrated hydroponic gardening.
Oh, underrated.
That's such a cool topic.
So I actually teach at a school.
It's a South Midfellon STEM Academy is the name of the school.
and unfortunately the school doesn't do a lot of STEM things to keep that in the name,
but I try to do a lot of STEM things for the kids.
And so one of the things we do is a lot of hydroponics gardening.
So we have seven or eight hydroponics gardens in the classroom,
and we grow a variety of foods.
We grow arugula for Steve.
That's what he eats, almost exclusively,
the greens that we grow for him in the hydroponics garden.
And the kids get to try foods that they would.
never try. We just harvested a bunch of red sales lettuce and every single kid tried it. So
at least they're trying something different. But we actually just yesterday got plants in,
we got a grant from the OSU Extension Office for a tower garden. It's, I don't know,
probably seven or eight feet tall and really big around. And it's a grant to see how sustainable
like vertical tower farming is. So it's a really big hydroponics garden.
that the kids will take care of and plant and then we'll weigh all the
process that comes from it and send them back the data so they can do research on it.
But we get to keep the machine and grow in it.
Very cool.
And the data.
So totally underrated, really cool.
I'm terrible at plants.
Like, with the new house, we put raised garden beds in the back and tried to do that.
You know, you spend the $300 for a 25 cent tomato to grow out of your garden.
But the hydroponics is really easy.
and anybody that wants to try it, I would do that.
The trick with gardening is just make sure you're, you know, your in-laws garden,
and then you get all the excess tomatoes and cucumbers you could ever want.
Exactly, yeah.
No, I can't keep anything alive here, but I don't know.
So hydroponics, obviously, like the name says, is just water.
So there's no dirt, so you don't get bugs.
You don't get anything like that.
So really easy.
And you had mentioned, you spoke so fast, and I kind of wonder, I had a STEM school.
Like, is that, are we talking like STEM, like, like,
the growing from the plant stem or is this like am i i i am i not understanding the terminology or is there
like a i don't think i'm ignorant to what you were saying yeah sorry so stems the acronym so
science technology engineering and mathematics i'm not big acronym guy so that would make sense
that that went over my head and keith is not big acronym i am not there's probably an acronym there's
probably an acronym for how not acronym i am yeah all right unpaid or underrated shrimp in an air fryer
Oh, I know who wrote this one.
Let me get him for this one.
Son of a bitch.
Unpaid.
That is the worst.
So I am not a big seafood person, but the absolute worst smell our house has ever smelled
is the garlic shrimp from Costco in the air fire just wafting through the entire house.
Like you stepped into a fish factory.
It was awful.
Nice.
I don't try to ban most things that Hogan eats,
but that one,
that one had to go.
I got so many more I want to do.
There's so many good ones still up the top.
I'm going to do one more,
but don't be afraid to go up to things they love to pick a couple more,
Brandon.
Unpaid or underrated true crime shows and podcasts.
Underrated.
So I think I've watched just about every documentary
that is out there on Netflix and Prime Video.
And then that's my go-to lullaby for falling asleep is a good dark murder podcast in both
headphones.
Just, yeah.
And do you really puts you asleep?
Do you remember the victims and the killers' names in those more than you do,
like Selma Hayek or Sandra Bullock's names?
Somewhat or more just like their story.
I feel like I can talk about their story better.
I think I'm just bad with them.
I think names are just...
Fair enough.
That's a goner, which is probably bad for being a teacher.
I have to work really hard at it.
Without looking at the screen, who are the two guys interviewing you right now?
Brandon and Keith.
I got that.
Good deal.
Good deal.
All right.
I'm all set.
There's a bunch of good ones, but I'd save you a few.
Oh, there's a lot.
Yeah.
All right.
So, Big Nicole, unpaid and underrated.
Six, seven, and other phrases your kids may use in class.
Unpaid.
we yeah that one thankfully that one has kind of died down like it's not quite as bad um yeah yeah
it must have come down to like younger grades because so my daughter is six and she's in first
grade this year and it seems like this year is like when she's doing it so i wonder because it's
like probably not cool in like the fourth and fifth grade anymore yeah it trickled down a little bit
Yeah, it trickled down.
So we actually, not to turn this into my show, but we bought some coasters that are six, seven
coasters and she thinks that's hilarious.
I could imagine being a teacher, though, what are some of the other phrases that they say?
Because, I mean, I'm so out of touch with some of that stuff.
A lot of them are like the TikTok sound.
I try to tune them out so much.
But they're like the TikTok sounds, little bits of songs.
A lot of, yeah, yeah, all kinds of stuff.
I don't, I feel like 6-7 was the last, like, really big one.
Yeah.
That, yeah.
I'm sure we did really annoying things in our youth, but I don't remember anything quite.
Like, it just seems so, like, nonsensical.
It means nothing, apparently.
Yeah.
So, it's, like, I just don't, I don't get it.
But, so unpaid or underrated, cold pizza.
Underrated. I love cold pizza. That's my favorite. I would rather eat cold pizza than hot pizza, actually.
Okay. So you would like, so you almost look forward to eating it leftover then?
Yeah, that's what I had for dinner tonight, actually.
Cold pizza? Cold pizza, yeah. Are you still a cheese pizza with black olives girl, or do you branch out now?
I've branched out. I've expanded my horizons, so we're up to pepperoni pizza now.
With black olives or do you drop the olives?
Hogan doesn't like black olives.
That doesn't, you're allowed to have what you want to have.
So, but I don't eat that much food anymore.
So he has to be the garbage disposal to clean up after everything.
Yeah, that makes sense.
Yeah, and he's getting huge.
So I'm sure, like in a good way, in a good way.
Yes.
No, we have a rule for, we had to make a rule for leftovers because he would get frustrated with me that they would go bad in the fridge.
So the default is if they're in the fridge, they're up for grabs.
He can have it.
And if I want something, I have to tell him not to eat.
which works out well because I will forget about something and leave it to go bad.
No name fair game.
Yeah.
Oh, I like that.
That's a good one.
Nothing's better than like someone else's leftovers.
It's like, oh, this is the best.
And then like the worst, the fallout the next day.
Like if I eat Stephanie's leftovers at like 10 o'clock at night and she is like taking
that for lunch tomorrow, I'm like in so much trouble to go back.
It's like I shouldn't have done that.
But it was so good.
I got one more for you here, big Nicole.
So unpaid or unrated.
Crimping packs.
of crew cards.
I wonder who that was.
I don't know.
Unpaid.
That was the worst part.
I don't think any of the future packs are crimped.
I think they're all straight.
You would think there would be some sort of bigger machine to do it.
No.
The only machine that does it is this little tiny gear hand crank machine that's like the size
of your thumb that you have to push the packs.
There's no way there's not an automated version.
of that that just takes like two double a batteries and that's just wild to me.
Yeah.
You would think so, but yeah.
I can only imagine.
So luckily I've seen, been able to like kind of see how the cake is made behind
the scenes and it just looks like, yeah, it just looks like such a process to develop those
true cards.
So I know we've told Big Hogan, thank you for those, but we definitely appreciate those.
I think they're, I mean, mine is hung up in my gym and at some,
and I think is really cool.
I know.
I really liked this year where people were taking them to the person who it was to get
it signed.
I thought that was really cool.
That's a good,
a branch of it that's going.
Yeah,
I had like,
I think I had like five at the Lyftard Live Easy Classic that I signed.
Oh,
and I felt like Barry Bonds.
You know,
like you did.
You signed one in my gym.
Maybe I signed one.
I did sign one for me.
So yeah.
Might have been it.
Oh yeah.
Keith couldn't decide where to sign it.
I remember that.
Yep.
Because I was like,
I don't want to sign.
I'd have to sign.
sign it on the crew card side, not the side with the image, because I just feel like it takes
away from Hogan's work and, like, the effort going into the card, like, I don't know.
I don't want to see someone scribble on the card personally, but.
I thought the cool ones were, like, I signed a couple on my image because, like, some of the
areas of the image is kind of dark, but used the, like, really shiny silver sharpie.
So, I mean, it, it was kind of a cool look afterwards.
I also, like, my penmanship is worse than my vernacular.
so like I don't
it's like I
I don't have a repetitive signature
that I can recreate that is in small print
and would be legible so
it's just never got good at that
I wish she did pass
unpaid or underrated which is good
and I just I was a mulling over
kind of how the whole episode went and I was just like I don't
I know we talked about the dogs a lot but I kind of wanted to
hear your um before we move on to the next topic
I wanted to like kind of re give the question back to you
as for sense of a what's like your favorite part
of the competing aspect of it maybe or just in general,
we talked about the dogs themselves,
but I want to see like what keeps you doing it?
Why, what do you get out of it?
Like, in, you know, why just tell me how you really feel about it essentially
and why you haven't given this hobby up, basically.
Yeah.
So the way you run a course is you get the map for the course on paper digitally,
but like you just see the layout of the map.
could be as early as just an hour before you have to run it, right?
So you look at it, it's a numbered course, and you have to make all these decisions, right?
So you're looking at angles, you're looking at, we talk about the lead that the dog is on,
like which leg they're going to be running on helps them change direction,
and then just knowing your dog, how they run, what cues they know,
obstacles they're more willing to take. So there's a lot of, they call them off courses. So
they'll try to get your dog to take the wrong obstacles versus the correct ones. So a lot of
planning goes into it in a very short amount of time. So you look at it as the map on paper. You have
to analyze it. And then you get five minutes to walk the course without your dog. So you get to go
onto the turf or outside on the grass, wherever the course is. And you can walk it without your
dog. So then you almost have to change your plan again. Because whatever, what was
on paper is not usually exactly how it's laid out or it walks.
We call it it.
It walks differently than what you saw it.
So then you're changing your plan again on the fly in that five minutes.
And they put a big timer up on the wall and it counts down.
So you get to say, oh, shoot, okay, here we go, five minutes counting down.
And then you have to get your dog and run and you just pick it up and go and your dog's
never seen it before.
You've memorized it, hopefully, would be best case scenario.
and you have to run it clean.
It has to be no mistakes and you have to get it right the first time.
So I like that.
I'm sure everybody talks about it,
but the thrill of the chase,
the thrill of getting over that last bar
and you executed it the way that you planned it.
And that doesn't happen very often,
and that doesn't mean you don't cue very often,
like Q being a qualifying run.
A lot of times you'll get a clean run,
but maybe it didn't run exactly the way you planned it.
So those few times where it runs exactly the way that you planned it,
it and you get there in all the spots that you thought you were going to get there.
And you get your timing and your cues out correctly and it all just kind of flows and is really smooth.
Those are kind of the adrenaline hits that keep you going for all of it.
So like Pepper, where he's very experienced now, like he cues most of the time.
But I would say there's a couple runs in a weekend where I go, wow, okay, we really, like,
I was where I was supposed to be.
I did all the things I was supposed to do.
He's fabulous.
this. So if I got it out in time, he'll do it right. But it's mostly on me. Did I get where I was
supposed to and give him what he needed to make it flow? So when that happens, it's really cool.
And do you, is stuff video, do you like watch your, I'm assuming, I guess, we're going to talk about
a little bit, a decent while now, I think, because I'm actually, I have a bunch of follow-ups now
that I've kind of thought about. So like, I guess we're still on the actual competition side of it.
So you do your run. You get judged on it everything. Is it like,
Do you get multiple attempts at the same run or is it just, or do they change the run or anything?
Or like the whole thing that you go to on the Saturday is you have the one run to do and then
you're just scored on that.
And there's no advancements.
It's just your time.
Because like what if you hit like 90% of the things?
Yeah.
You don't, you have to hit 100% and then it's a time.
Okay.
Yeah.
So within a day and depending on the venue and how many people are entered and stuff, you know ahead
of time.
how many runs you enter.
So probably on average, you have five runs a day, usually.
Oh, as in like, they're different courses, you're saying?
Different courses, yeah.
So you only ever get one chance to run a course for a school.
Or sometimes they'll let you redo it for fun just to work on something.
But you only ever have a chance to do it once for real.
And you can't ever have a practice run before you do it for real.
So, yeah, you get one shot.
And then depending on different venues that you are,
under, I'm trying to equate this to lifting, but like depending on which then you, you're judged
under, like you can enter an AKC trial, like American Kennel Club is the one probably most people
have heard of. They have a set of rules or you can enter under a different club and they have
slightly different rules. But yeah, for the most part, you have to run it completely perfect.
There's no. Or you get like a DNF basically, like it did not finish or did not qualify or something.
Yeah. And so, and depending on the level too. So you start off in the lower levels like baby
rogue, she starts off in the lower levels. So in the lower levels, like, you could have one
mistake and still cute. And then very quickly, you have to run it perfect once you move up
with levels. Who's the, like, is there, um, is it arbitrary of like, you thought it was perfect,
but the other judge decided that that one eighth of an inch that the leg went did count as a,
as a disqualifier? Or how does that kind of, uh, yes and no. So the most common fault, so they're
called faults when you get an error basically. The most common fault is knocking a bar. So
like if the bar is displaced and falls on the ground. So that one's kind of obvious. So a knocked bar.
And then the next most common one is a wrong course. So they just literally take the wrong obstacle.
So that would disqualify you. And then a contact fault. So if you've ever seen an agility where they have
the big, like there's the A frame that looks like the letter A. And it has two different colors.
It has like a color on the first part of it,
and then it's a solid color up and over,
and then it has another little chunk of color at the bottom.
They have to get a foot in the up zone,
and they have to get a foot in the down zone.
So if they jump off or they jump too high getting on
and they miss that, it's called a contact zone,
if they miss one of their contacts, that's also a fault.
And that one can be a little bit more arbitrary
because it's like, did the judge see your dog get a foot in it
before, you know, as they were sprinting across or not?
but for the most part it's pretty easy to tell.
Okay.
So contact fault and then depending on the venue,
sometimes if they like pass an obstacle and have to curve back around,
that can also be a fault.
So a lot of timing.
It's a lot of timing.
What's the average time for a run?
Like is it like 30 seconds kind of?
Depends on the course.
So there's some like the most common is a jumpers course,
which is just jumps, we've pulls, and tunnels.
So those are faster because there's no contact equipment.
So, yeah, between like 25 and 30 seconds.
And then standard, which has the contact obstacles,
is probably like 35 to 40 seconds.
So yeah, you get to sit around all day for like 30 seconds.
Sounds like every Saturday.
Do they drug test the dogs?
Not at our level.
We're not good enough.
Okay.
I don't know if it was like even a drug out there that like,
what drug would make dogs better at this?
I like.
So then you video all the things and then kind of study that.
And then that's what you work on on practice.
And then so we all, you know, most of us that, you know, some of us are in the gym
anywhere between like eight and 15 hours a week.
How, and I know you teach and do your own courses.
So I guess how much time are you working with each dog?
Well, how much time does each dog individually get with you each week?
And then how much time total do you think you're dedicating on top of your 40 hour plus a week
job to, you know, this, you know, passion?
Yeah.
So we, they each have two classes.
So they each have two hours a week.
Pepper's at two different facilities.
So that's the other thing is them being animals.
You're also trying to acclimate them to new environments and different things going on.
So like another piece of it is, okay, you get up in the morning, you put them in the car, we drive for four hours.
We get out at a facility that they've never been to around dogs that they've never been around.
And it's loud and it's different smells.
and the judge they've never met before is standing there, you know, running along with us to try to judge us.
So it's also just a lot of acclamation to different things.
Things like the teeter that goes up and down.
Every teeter brand is slightly different.
It moves slightly different.
So just kind of all those things.
So we try to practice at different facilities, we call it getting on the equipment, like touching all their stuff.
Kind of like gym stuff too.
You want to touch what you're getting ready to compete on.
You want to feel it.
Feel the nerling, you know, the rubberized.
So they each get two hours a week of class.
And then we have equipment at home, and I just make it part of their routine.
So every time they, like Rogue right now, she's working on learning weave poles.
So every time before I feed her in the morning and the evening, we work weave poles before she goes into her kind of like, that's how she gets her breakfast and dinner.
So just kind of throughout the day, I would say probably another 20 to 30 minutes.
Just kind of off and on.
A significant amount of time.
You're, you know, equivalent to what, you know, Hogan might be doing the gym, you're,
doing something with one of the dogs or with your, you know, teaching.
It's three nights a week.
I try to, depending on scheduling, I try not to do more than three nights a week outside of, like,
three nights a week, though.
So basically, you know, she power lifts three nights a week, and then she does strongman Saturdays,
you know, that is the equivalent to, you know, when she goes to compete with the dogs.
and you're always taken both,
like you're always able to do
competitions with both dogs
so you kind of get like doubled your bang
essentially?
Now, yeah.
So the age limit for most venues
is 12 months,
so Rogue just started in most competition.
Cool.
She just had her third,
yeah, third trial a couple weekends ago.
And it's got to be hard to because like,
if one of you mess up, it's like,
it's,
you ever like so well you've already said the dogs ever best up so are you hard on yourself then
when you watch something back and you're like oh that's my fault or oh absolutely and like I mean and
rogue's a baby so I you know of course it's really the dog is never wrong that's kind of what it
gets down to is like either you haven't trained it well enough or you didn't get your cue out fast
enough both cases are your fault right it's not really ever the dog's fault regardless but you know rogue
will make more mistakes and that's fine but pepper hardly ever makes a mistake and so when you look
back at the video, you go, oh my gosh, I wasn't even, like, close to. We talk a lot about, like,
body language and acceleration and deceleration to cue different things. And you just look at it and
you go, oh, I sent him right over that or I, you know, stop dead. And of course he dropped
the bar because he's reading that, oh, that was a tight turn. And so he, you know, pulled in and that
kind of thing. So, yeah. Seems like kind of a workout for you also, like just, you know,
running, I mean, I could have, I've watched it on TV before. So I know, like, I mean, it just
third party watching it just seems like that would be a good workout doing it. I mean,
I know it's only 30 seconds at a time, but during training, you might do that run several times
out of it. Yeah. Hey, 30 seconds of cardio is 30 seconds of cardio. That's right. Yeah, it's hit training.
It's got to be a lot easier now with the weight loss, I'd imagine. Yes. Yeah, that was another
change in your life of like, oh, this is easy. Yeah. That was another big piece of it is like getting
rogue and knowing we had a puppy coming and that, you know, I mean, Pepper's a little more reliable. He doesn't
need quite as much handling as a baby dog. So knowing like I wanted to be able to do that for her.
Like she is bred, you know, to be even, like, as she runs circles around Pepper, she's crazy
and Pepper Pepper's great. That's nothing against him. He's perfect. But she's crazy fast.
And so I wanted to be able to be there for her and give her what she needs and be able to keep up with
crazy pants. I'm glad we were able to revisit that. I would have felt guilty, I think, if I
was listening back to this next week.
And I know we hit on the dog specifically, but like the sport aspect of it, I think people might be able to, like, everyone's like, everyone likes dogs.
Like I get that.
But like the actual sport side is very unique and definitely not something we've had.
So we try to, I try to make a point to deep dive one topic at least pretty thoroughly.
And trying to think if we have any other followups that we didn't cover there, Brandon, that would be relevant.
Nice.
Okay.
Yeah.
We've won like $6.
Oh. Okay.
Follow up to that.
How many thousands of dollars have you spent in just entry fees alone?
Entry.
Okay, so what is, is it we're talking like $100 a dog per entry kind of thing?
Oh, wow, more than $100.
Okay, damn.
So it is a lot like lifting.
So is Nicole sleeping in the, in the doll kennel tonight?
Is that the game we're going to start playing with Logan?
I think that's the next segment.
I would say if you entered every run,
Like, you don't have to run every run, but I mean, I, unless you have an older dog, I don't know why you wouldn't.
But I would say if you entered one dog for the whole weekend, it's about $150.
Okay.
So you're, yours, you're, there's, you're $300 without gas and whatnot.
I mean, that's, I mean, I can see why Hogan has a nice gym.
I mean, that's, that's tit for tat.
I mean, I think you guys might be even.
That's what I said.
We have our own hobbies.
It works out.
You know, I don't question the stuff that comes out, comes through the door that comes up to the fort.
I don't think either of them want to play the whole calculator.
Let's add up our hobbies game.
I mean, they were able to swing a mortgage, so that's good.
I mean, they're not both so financially irresponsible that they're renting still.
So that's good that they don't have an actual house.
When we do it at our home facility, like the one that I teach at, like I will build the courses.
So this is kind of a strong man adjacent sort of thing or a lifting adjacent.
Love it.
the courses have to get built, right?
So, like, all the equipment has to get changed out.
And so they will pay people to build all the courses.
So I'm always building the courses.
Also, because the general population of agility people tends to skew older.
So the younger people kind of help out.
But I do a lot of sandbag carries.
So each tunnel gets five pairs of sandbags.
So it's 10, 30-pound sandbags on each tunnel.
So, you know, it's a lot of sandbag carries.
it's some good you know that'll work that's more than a lot of people would carry so that's a 30
pound is carrying 30 pounds several times you get old quick yeah and we do that you know five courses a
day two days and then yeah but yeah so that kind of offset some of the cost too is you can very cool
I liked learned a lot about that and that is it's just it's just referred to it's as agility or dog agility
or agility competition like what's the actual vernacular yeah it's just called
agility. Usually I say dog agility because
I don't know, people think, you know,
agility drills or something like football sports
or something. 100%. I would always
think of like playing Madden football and
your agility attribute
on the game.
Very cool, very cool.
Okay, well, I think we might have exhausted
a good amount of the show notes.
Nothing's really
hopping out that is
pressing. I think we need to cover.
I think we're good.
Do you have anything for the host?
that you wanted to get off your chest?
Yeah, I had a couple questions.
Let's do it.
All right.
All right.
First for Keith.
This one is recent.
Oh.
We saw your,
I saw your squat PR today.
Congratulations.
Appreciate it.
And I wanted to know,
this was the comment I made when I watched it,
what is making,
how did you get the video angle?
Oh.
From beneath.
So if you haven't seen it,
it's just below Keith,
looking straight up.
So that's on my good phone.
So I have a work phone and then like my personal phone.
My personal phone is a like a three-year-old iPod or iPhone Pro.
So it's got like the good zoom out camera.
So I can go in like negative 10 or something in the perspective.
So I zoom that all the way out.
I guess it'd be the zoom, zoom out.
It would be the technical term, I guess.
Zoom that as far back as possible and then just sit it like at the bottom of the
squat rack between the wall.
like, you know, at a 45 degree angle leaning up against the wall, like in the front of the squat rack.
And sometimes it's perfect.
And sometimes it's like just like the left side of my body.
And I wish it was, I wish my, I wish my work phone had that camera feature too because like I just, I prefer to have the shittier phone take that shittier angle.
But it ended up, I think today like my personal phone like had a glitch or something.
So on the 435, the front angle was really like blurry.
But then on the 420, it was like crystal clear.
So I'm like, what the fuck?
Like what literally nothing changed?
and the 10 minutes between the lift.
So, but yeah, it's just the camera.
It's cool.
I think his Cessney asked for a front angle video
when I was doing the mono lift the other day,
attachments because he just needed,
like, he wanted to see how my,
what I was in with my head and neck and everything.
And I was like,
he was like, set it up in the power rack.
And I'm like, if I,
I did initially,
and then I put the squat bar over there.
And the squat bar,
far is like a foot longer than a normal barbell.
And I already have a massive clearance issue
between the wall and that squat rack.
So like a regular barbell is fine.
But like,
actual, you know, foot
longer squat bar.
It's just no,
but no,
I would have literally,
like, put a hole in the wall.
So I was like,
yeah,
I can't do that.
So then trying to do
the zoom out camera,
it,
I don't know,
it's,
it's a decent angle.
It's not trying to show people
my nuts.
It's just like,
it's a cool angle to see
the front of a squat
and not have to,
like, squat in a different rack.
So just the old,
old magic for the camera.
RPE sack.
Yeah.
Yeah.
I got,
yeah.
You would have thought Big Jakey was there as much as many people was getting sacked.
In sad joke, not everyone will get, but my group chat will get it, the group chat.
All right.
And then a follow-up question going on with the animal thoughts, Keith.
If your cats disappeared, cats are gone.
I don't know.
To face the planet.
What other pet would you pick?
You have to pick another pet.
So, like, that'd be hard because Stephanie with her neck surgery and everything, like, she can't
be jarred um like physically so like a dog jumping on her she's terrified of like even if it's like a
smaller dog like if she tenses up like she can hurt herself so that's always like a lap dog would
be cool if it was like super super chill but then like the whole aspect of walking a dog in the weather
and the so i don't know i think a dog would probably be out unless it was just like the good parts
of a dog and not the hard work part of the dog i guess um so if i had to have an animal something just
what is a whatever like the most what is a what's a passive income kind of animal that you
stunk yeah yeah yeah no maybe a turtle maybe like a i had a box turtle i was a kid i remember
that but i it'd have to be something that was like a fish maybe that was like you just feed
once a week and i don't know i the times that we had between pets was honestly if we hadn't
have lost our previous cat.
They had to put him down.
Because we lost him
before any crew event.
It was like in December,
or it was like January of 23,
we had to put Gus down.
And then that kind of like put us in this whole
like not having a pet that was sick
and needed literal like constant attention twice a day
with like feeding and medicine
and like this whole ordeal of like
getting him to eat these fucking pills to try to keep us,
hyperthyroidism in check before he died and all that shit.
So that was a massive emotional strain on both of us,
mostly Stephanie because she did 80% of the work,
but both of us.
So that like period,
we had about nine months to a year or something with no pets.
And that's was awesome.
As much as I love to have animals,
it was so nice to not to basically have full freedom of the house
and be able to utilize like both spare rooms like to the max capacity
and not have one be a lot,
a fucking litter room.
but the not having a pet thing was just like I don't think
I think if our cat was still sick and we hadn't put him down
I don't know that I ever would have came to the first Arnold that I went to
I don't know if Lvester Lovizi would have happened because it all kind of like
like it was just more of we were both in a funk because we had just you know lost her 10 year
old 11 year old like family pet and then we're like well let's go to the Arnold
Tommy and Tanner you know there's going to be this whole thing I'm going to go meet crew and stuff
and you know spend a ton of money into that and I was like oh this is awesome and then
Lifford Lively Leel Visi became a thing and
registered for that.
And I don't know if we still had a sick animal at home that I would have been really allowed isn't the right word.
But like,
I wouldn't have been,
um,
she wouldn't have been as overly supportive for me to go do these things.
So I honestly think no pet would be the answer,
but obviously that's not the answer.
I don't know,
something passive.
I don't love the,
I don't know.
I like pets.
They're like other people's kids.
You just want to see,
you know,
I don't necessarily want a kid,
but,
you know,
they're cool for,
for you,
but they might be cool for me,
but I don't know.
We're about like a bird.
Then you can have it for like 100 years.
Yeah, that sounds horrible.
Like that commitment.
Like the only thing I want to be with 100 years is my wife, not a bird.
I don't need to be a...
I'm good.
I don't know.
I don't know that there is the perfect animal for someone that's just like...
There's nothing like a good cat cuddle is pretty cool, though.
So that's hard to...
You get a snake.
They, like, big snakes eat like once a month.
If I brought a snake home, I would be the most single fucking person you ever met in about two seconds.
Stephanie has the biggest fear of snakes.
And I'm not saying that so someone can joke around with her in person.
And, like, if someone ever brought a rubber snake to my wife, I'd have to, like,
actually fight you because she'd be so mad.
Like, it would be really, really bad and it would end whatever friendship we had.
So, like, don't do that because I like you guys.
I don't want to have to, like, end relationships.
So, but yeah, no, she's terrified of snakes.
She gets so freaked out about snakes.
Like, she stepped on one as a kid and, like, still has, like, this memory of, like,
the running away and, like, having this big snake, I don't know, whatever it's
how she ever she remembers the story, but like I can't change her mind on how she
interpreted snake, how she feels about snakes. So definitely can't have snakes.
You can bring a rubber snake and scare Hogan. I give anybody permission. We were,
this is a funny story actually. I just thought of we were at the Lexington house and we were
getting ready to move. We were packing stuff up to move. And we had the, you know,
how you coil the hose on the ground outside and it just kind of sits and like the ground under it
gets kind of wet and all that. So I guess that was perfect housing for,
a snake that had just eaten a big meal.
So it was a big, big snake.
And he yelled for me to come out and get it out of the backyard.
And I have to guess, he thought I would just, like, go put it, you know, in the next adjacent
yard or down the street or something.
But me being me, I put it in a container.
And I said, Hogan, you got to get the keys to the car.
We have to go drive it out to the field so that it's safe.
We can't let it, you know, go to the neighborhood and get, you know, harassed by somebody or run over.
And he wouldn't let me sit in the front seat of the car with the snake.
I had to sit in the back of the car with the snake.
That's funny.
While he drove us out to a field so we could let the snake go.
But, yeah, so you are welcome to bring a rubber snake in Scarehouse.
It is?
Yeah.
Sorry, go ahead, Keith.
I was going to say some of my fondest memories of, like, growing up with my, you know, my interactions with my mother,
was we had a running bit of hiding a rubber snake on each other for, I don't know, from the time I was like 12 to 21 when I think when I moved away.
And it was just something neither of us will ever forget.
And it was just a large portion of her life was just fucking with each other.
And putting the snake in the bed, putting it in the shower, putting it in their car, putting it in the freezer, putting in their lunch.
Like, we got fucking creative with this stupid rubber snake, man.
And it scared the shit out of me almost every time.
But yeah, that was good stuff.
That's what I was going to say is my daughter does the same thing to Emily, my wife.
She, and like I said before, my daughter is six.
So for her to have the wherewithal, like to play jokes on people, it's pretty awesome.
That is good.
But she got this like really like.
Yeah.
I don't even remember where she got this rubber snake.
And it's got some miles on it now.
Like it's definitely looks not real.
But at one time it looked very real.
And at one, and she had the wherewithal to like put it in my wife's pillowcase once.
So like in the middle of the night, you know, she like reaches under and like feels, you know.
Yeah. So it got her a couple times. But now we almost like, we almost expect it to be staged somewhere in the house.
So we're just like, oh, no, there's a snake, you know. But.
That's funny. Speaking of practical jokes, is it you or Hogan that like to take up people's phones and take selfies with them?
That was me.
Nice. That was good. Yeah.
We were all having lunch at home gym con after we were living at Brandon's house.
And I,
all of times I'll just leave my phone at the table,
especially if it's like,
you know,
amongst friends.
And I go to the bathroom and come back.
And,
yeah,
there's just a selfie of Hogan,
Nicole just smiling at me on my phone that I saw like the next night or later
that night or something.
I just got a kick out of it.
All right.
And then I have a question for both of you.
It kind of goes along with moving the home gym.
And I know we've all had experiences with,
with moving gym equipment or picking things up.
So whoever wants to start is fine.
But what's the most awkward or inconvenient piece of equipment that you've had to pick up or move,
either into your gym or out of your gym, however you want to run with it?
So for me, like, I would say like the combo rack would probably be one thing because it's,
it's basically it came freight and it was dropped in with a palette and what I usually do is carry
pieces down one at a time luckily this iteration of my home gym almost nothing existed from my
last home gym at my old house was basically hardly anything in that so I mean I was I'm usually
able to take it down piece by piece by piece so it's not usually that bad but the combo rack
is pretty heavy and I will say not necessarily that it was that hard but it was frustrating because
I put about a six inch hole in my drywall. As you know coming down into our basement, it's not
just a straight flight of stairs. It's like eight stairs and a landing and then another seven stairs or
whatever to get to the basement. So as I was rounding that corner, huge hole in the drywall. So
that pissed me off. And then I was also like, it was like the first piece I had to carry down there.
So it wasn't off to a very good start.
So that was probably the most frustrating thing I've had to move down.
Second to that was probably the kilo plates just because it's like a farmer's carry.
You know, like carrying two 25 kilogram plates at a time is exhausting.
You know, when you have, you know, 800, 900 pounds of plates.
So that was a fun thing.
But I really dread the day I have to move.
everything out of
so luckily I have a window in the basement
you know a small basement window that I can just
slide uprights through so that'll make it a little bit easier
and I hopefully saved me from damaging the walls more
nice good answer why would you
that not your forever home?
I hope not I mean like I like this house it's a very good house
and we're very blessed to have. 27 foot tall ceilings
yeah it's a it's a good
at home. I'd really like to live somewhere with land.
Gotcha. Just,
yeah. But especially
in Kentucky, like there's so many counties
that you can live in that's
cheaper than the county I live in
and actually have some acreage, you know,
with maybe a gym in a barn
or, you know, a gym in an outbuilding or
something like that. So I think that'd be cool.
Live the Big Debo life, you know.
Yeah. And so,
but yeah, for right now,
this house is perfect and it
also has lots of kids. We live in the
end of a cul-de-sac, as you both
know. There's lots of kids, Grace's age
she can play with, so it's perfect.
It works. I'll give a quick
update on a former guest there.
Big Kurt Locker. He must have
saw my thing on Instagram. I think he's
more a Facebook guy. I don't think Kurt does much Instagramming.
But I had all those
fucking tractor pictures I posted. He had
like that next day or something, he had sent
me like a bunch of unsolicited pictures
of like his tractor and his
zero turn and his kids working on the mower
and stuff. And he's like, you know, it was
talking about
he had this a huge
huge spread of land
now where he moved
and it's the first time
I probably haven't got a text
room in for like a year
or something
and it was just out of the blue
I was just like
oh,
similar like you know
move to get land
basically.
Yeah.
As far as my
with the heart
I've had a lot of
I've had help
with a lot of the big stuff
I don't know
there's only a few things
I actually think I got help with
I got help with the reverse hyper
because it's like
the swinging arm thing
would have been so fucking
hard. Even disassembled, like the two sides, but like the, the pad with the pendulum on it was just, I think I did. I know I got help with that. I think the only thing I maybe got help with was the, uh, the base of my competition bench because it just weighs like fucking 200 pounds and it's so big. Um, the hardest thing I probably moved by myself that I can like vividly remember like almost dying. Uh, the rogue adjustable bench 2.0 because it weighs like 175 pounds or something. It's like the heavyest.
bench I've ever felt and essentially happen to just like bear hug it and like waddle down the
steps and I have a very shitty rickety staircase. The closest I've ever seen to someone dying was
Chris Mark at like 280 pounds carrying a 20025 pound sandbag down the stairs for me because like
I can barely pick up a 225 pound sandbag let alone like maneuver it from my garage up my skinny
staircase into my house down my stairs. So I was like, hey buddy.
you can do me a favor and like as he was walking down the steps I could like hear the board creaking as if it would like break and this was like when he was like three quarters the way up so I'm just like imagining if that board breaks and he falls 10 feet he's breaking both his fucking legs ensuing me and like that's I would just feel horrible because I would like fuck up his life and he was like yeah I'm never carrying anything in this gym for you again I was like yeah please I need to get I need to get stronger well him and I are basically the same weight so like it wouldn't do me do it done me any good to carry either but but I I have done me any good to carry it either but but.
But I just any sandbags that come back out of the gym are going to get half.
We have to get half emptied because I can't maybe maybe a 150 bag is the only one I'd feel comfortable carrying up and down the stairs, the 200 and $2.25 just not happening.
Invest in one of those like harbor freight dollies with the inflatable wheels.
Yeah.
Because like I have one of those and like even the weight trolley that the rhino has on it that weighs like that trolley itself, which Nicole can probably attest for this too because they have a rhino.
That trolley weighs like, it feels like 200 pounds by itself.
So, but it made it really easy because I just like ratchet strapped it to a dolly and was able just to go one step at a time.
I tried the dolly, but I have like, I have to make like, I have like two steps and then like a 90 to return into the house.
So it's like impossible to maneuver the dolly.
So I got you.
I mean, I guess I could have got it to the steps and then put it on a dolly or something.
I might have been, but I don't know.
But basements are difficult to get stuff in and out of.
But I've, I've,
had my,
I personally moved everything in and out of that gym
with the exception of a help with like three things.
Getting the treadmill in,
I think might have been the hardest thing though.
We just have like a generic shitty treadmill.
And I still remember it was me,
my dad, my mom and my wife all like 15 years ago,
probably trying to get it down there.
Because it was like, I think we had the treadmill
before we like had a gym gym.
So yeah,
pretty close 15 years ago.
That was a motherfucker.
If that thing dies, it's just getting cut into like six pieces and thrown away,
you know, over time.
So do, like, one of those rooms where you take out your aggression on it, just take a sledgehammer and, like, go to town.
Oh, that'd be cool.
Yeah, we also have a treadmill in the basement and I carried it down myself in pieces.
I was like you're trying to dick me over here.
No, no, no, no, no.
It was not graceful whatsoever.
And it was, luckily, it was before our basement was finished.
So, like, there was no carpet.
on the steps.
Like,
there's now,
like,
the steps are now carpeted.
Um,
but at the time,
it was like,
you know,
just like stock unfinished steps.
So I,
we bought a brand new treadmill.
I opened it all up and like,
just slid the deck down sideways.
Uh,
I'm sure there's scratches all up and down the,
the deck,
but it was kind of a crappy treadmill anyway.
So,
I,
uh,
I fucked my stairs up a little bit a couple months ago.
Maybe it was a month ago.
Basically,
no,
it's been,
whatever the last competition I did,
it would have been after lift hard,
live easy.
And my transition between Lifted Leverde vizzi, not having a coach, because I kind of had stepped away from my other coach.
And then before I hired Jake, it was kind of like, I had like a two week kind of low to do whatever I wanted.
And I was like, oh, I haven't benched in a year and a half.
Let me just load up like 200.
Actually, no, it was like, I think I did 315 on like a two board.
And I had like, that's something I used to be able to rep out.
And I was like, oh, I'm going to, I'm going to touch 315 on the two board and just feel it, you know, see how it goes and got pinned and had to dump it because I wasn't, I should have been, I historically would do board pressing.
in my rack where I could set the spotter arms high enough.
But if I do board pressing on my competition bench press,
I cannot set the spotter arms.
Don't go high enough because they bottom out.
So I had to dump the weight.
And I wasn't paying attention.
And I should have dumped on the side that wasn't next to the staircase,
but I dumped the side near the staircase.
So then I just had a 45 pound plate,
kind of just like fucking speed jet into the side of like my two by eight stair runner on the side.
And I has like a big old fucking chunk out of it now.
I'm like, God damn it.
So mad.
But yeah.
that's the thing.
What about Unicle?
What's the hardest thing you've had to move for Hogan because he can't move it?
Yeah, I moved a lot of the gym in actually.
I bet.
It's, yeah.
No, yeah, we just got the belt squat.
Hogan picked it up.
And it was still in one piece.
Like it was taken apart, but it was still in one piece.
Like the cable was still running through it and everything.
Oh, he got that used from the garage sale?
No, from Facebook.
Oh, okay.
On Facebook.
But, yeah, getting that out of the truck was a pain in the butt.
We just did that recently.
The deck on that.
Do you have any idea how much those costs new?
You have to wait for the new episode of, Am I Sleeping in the Home Gym?
Okay.
I was just curious.
No, I don't.
I know.
Good deal.
I do.
I know.
That's what I figured if you wanted to, if you want to, well, so you can tell her how much it costs,
and then she can debate over the next months of how much should Hogan actually pay for it.
That's true.
Yeah, I guess the actually.
cost is not the, yeah.
Yeah, I think it was somewhere around like the $2,400 range, something like that.
So I don't remember the exact cost because I did order a couple other things from Rogue while
I was getting freight shipping.
It was kind of like, all right, what else did I want just because it made sense just to do it
all in one shipment.
I will say the, so before Rogue had the yard sale just in Rogue, they used to do the yearly
warehouse sale.
Oh, yeah, you had to sprint to it and like, you know, get shit signed off or whatever.
Yeah, exactly.
And so the first year when we went, it was that.
And I had no idea what we were getting.
Like, I had no idea what we were walking into.
None.
Yeah, madhouse.
And, yeah, so we got there and Hogan picks up the reverse hyper that you just talked about with the pendulum that, you know, is so hard.
And he goes, you can either carry this or the two wagon wheels that we had.
And I was like, both are bad options.
but yes, you have to carry it with you.
There's nowhere to put it.
You have to carry it through the warehouse.
So, yes, we have not carried.
I ended up with the wagon wheels and those were hard too, but carrying the reverse hyper
through the rogue warehouse was not a good time.
You can't really like, you'd have to like, you would have had to basically just sit there
and wait it for him to go put the one in the car and it come all the way back or something.
Yeah, we had to like make a pile and then you have to like sit on it, make sure nobody takes
it while you're.
That's good stuff.
Well, those are good questions.
Different kind of fun, though, when it was like that.
Like, it is fun to go check the yard sale.
I imagine the prices were better back then, too, because the prices aren't great.
I mean, they're good, but they're not like, I'm not going to run for the prices that they are for what I've seen the couple times I've been there now.
I think, too, you were more likely to get, like, I remember some stuff just kind of wasn't priced, and it was like, if you got a good employee, you probably got a pretty good deal on it.
Or if you asked Bill, probably a bad employee.
Right.
Yeah.
Like, you sold that for what?
all right oh i think that is that uh is that all you got not not to say that that wasn't
enough i just don't want to don't want to cut you off if you had anything else then i'm i'm
ready to bring us in for a landing uh last call if there's anybody that didn't get a chance
to say something they wanted to say or a question they didn't want to answer uh you know is
there anything that you think you uh is there anything you wanted to get asked that didn't
Nicole no i think it's good beautiful well i think people are going to get to have known
you a lot better with this episode hopefully there's
a decent amount of people tuning in to consume it.
You know, you are at X amount of events.
So people that put the work in and come to stuff will get the opportunity to meet you if they haven't already.
Hall of Famer.
Yes.
Official-ish.
Yep.
She was reluctant to accept it with her maybe eight.
But Hogan set the record straight with that.
And we did confirm it.
Tanner will get you your supporting membership number this coming week.
I think we're good.
Uh, big Nicole, where are they going to find you at on Instagram?
At Unleash the Borders, B-O-R-D-E-R-S.
Big Brandon, where you at?
O'Doyle underscore Basement, underscore, underscore rules.
And then on the Discord, I'm Big Brandon O'Doyle rules.
Yeah, something like that.
Uh, we have got the Instagram Unpaid Underrated podcast, the website,
Unpaid Interim Podcast.com.
More, more importantly, the U and you channel and the MassNOME
Discord. That's where we like all the conversation to go. It has been awesome the last several
weeks to see, you know, many, many comments, people coming out of the woodwork, and some
old friends coming out and, you know, sharing their thoughts on the variety of product we're
giving you guys. And, you know, everything's been good. And it's been nice to see a lot of
positive reinforcement for the work that we're putting in over here. So appreciate that, guys.

When I was everything good with you brother
We um even big Chris at BeltFad
Was like whatever happened to Nate
I ain't seen that guy in a couple years
or a year, you know, and I was just like, I don't know, he's been, I'm assuming he's life and
work because he's kind of dropped off the Instagram.
Yeah, well, the last guy I saw was Big Brandon there.
And Chris, I had done a project that was taking me out to East Tennessee, and this year,
one of our other techs got it.
So I'll probably be out there hopefully again next year.
But who knows, if a home gym con stays in Louisville may be out there.
If it's in Nashville, that would be even closer, be even easier.
So hopefully we can get out there.
there and I'll help Chris out the booth or something.
No, it's definitely in, it's 100% in Louisville next year.
Okay, okay, I hadn't heard that.
Future, future hard to, yeah, it's going to be the last weekend in July.
I think tickets are already up, so it'll be the same place.
I'm on the backlog. Like you said, I dipped away for a while.
I'm on the backlog.
I'm at episode 155, 56, something like that.
That's not too bad.
We're only a couple of months.
I mean, that's, well, I guess we are at 170, whatever, but all right, brother.
