Starting point is 00:00:00 And welcome back to episode 81 of the unpaid and underrated podcast. I'm one of your hosts, Big Keith joined as always here by Big Joey. Bring the heat. And this week we got special special guest, Big Toby. Espresso guest. Espresso. Yeah. Special guest big Toby espresso guest expresso, yeah Didn't we have a whole doesn't that a whole thing of like one of I one of us is in me pronounced it wrong or something
Starting point is 00:00:31 That might have been something I said did it work though. I can't remember some somewhere I definitely have a conversation, but was it in discord Expresso versus espresso or something wasn't that a thing? No, well, it definitely was someone will make fun of me for it So anyway, hey big Toby. Yeah Well, it definitely was someone will make fun of me for it anyway. Hey big Toby. Yeah I'm sure see I'm sure he said something wrong. Yeah, he tends to do that. It's never me We both do it 69% of the time out of a hundred so that's that's fair Well Toby, what what's drinking this week buddy? I've got a can of the liquid death here
Starting point is 00:01:07 one Orange only I've seen an orange one me that's out to try that Yeah, the orange one's pretty good. Okay. Yeah, the lime one's pretty good, too And we're sure I'm gonna have to keep an eye out for that That's intriguing cuz like I really like the plain liquid death the citrus air the other lime ones Okay, but orange might yeah that that is don't work with that on the uh the radar i would think it would appeal to you so yeah for sure i've got uh again we got the waterloo at cosco we actually cosco did have waterloo again for not an obnoxious price so we got a whole other variety pack and i'm rocking the peach this week peach waterloo enjoying it peach peach bubblies are always good i
Starting point is 00:01:42 have a uh coca cola i had nothing to say Just a legitimate regular Coca-Cola. It's not an Oreo or anything. Well, it's sugar-free, but yeah, I was just craving the teeth tingling. I feel that sometimes. Big Toby, looks like you're wearing one of my favorite shirts over there. What you got on, buddy? I've got the 8-bit Strongman shirt. Oh, I love that one. That is definitely one of my favorites Pairs well with my blue lifting department shorts. It just came out perfect Optium shorts and you got a fart catcher on your head to it looks like I do this
Starting point is 00:02:18 Is one product I'd like to see brought back and it's probably never gonna happen. So that's just the oh, yeah Cuz the other lift logo is pretty much dead. Yeah I think they should bring it back either put a different logo put the lifting department on there or something. Yeah yeah yeah. So I do we I watched last night's so by the time this one comes out we're gonna be like a week off because we did a Thanksgiving episode recording this one before Thanksgiving as well. So Joey and I can kind of have a rest week next week basically. We're on a little deload of podcasting on the Thanksgiving week. So if I talk about anything from the drop that has already occurred when this has come out, it has not occurred in real time yet. But I'm going to take a guess and see if it was actually right. They had talked about there's going to be a short drop, a crew exclusive short drop on the new short but with an old logo. Well, I'm interpreting it to be an old logo because why else would it be a crew exclusive short drop on the new short but with an old logo well I'm interpreting it to be an old logo because why else would it be a crew
Starting point is 00:03:09 exclusive so I'm fingers crossed it's a pair of black shorts with like the lift logo the old-school lift logo on the new shorts because if I mean it might not be that but that'd be cool if it is I really hope it is that's you know foreshadowing for something great I would love to see that so I've always been a fan of the original lift logo logo and just the classic, you know, black shorts. So we will see what happens with that. I'm rocking the, what's the seven-year podcast shirt and what you got Joey? Got the Weekend Warrior. Yeah you do. I don't think I've seen you there wearing that too much. It's not a... No, there's this new
Starting point is 00:03:43 thing of I have too many shirts, we started piling the ones that fit on top of my dresser and just kind of keeping all the other ones in the dresser. But then recently my wife has decided all my shirts go on my dresser. So when I happened to open the drawer, I saw this one. I was like, oh, I missed that shirt. Nice.
Starting point is 00:04:02 Well, let's see. They've got the Lift Hard, Lift Easy sign up. By the time we're here on this, it should be sold out. Strongman, as of this date, still had two of the super heavyweight spots. And I think Powerlifting, as of last night, had four spots. Maybe, I mean, the classic three spots left, it wasn't far off.
Starting point is 00:04:21 And this would have been on 11.21. So hopefully by the time this is coming into your guys ears it's fully sold out crew exclusive it's all we got and did you guys are like have a sneeze sneak up on you like did you just watch that happen I did I didn't know if you were I was like is he rolling my eyes at the coming in your ears no I was like wait nope he it was like a but it wasn't you didn't look like you actually sneezed. It was just more of like a nose twitch. Yeah, no, the first one was a sneeze and then I felt the other one come in the other day.
Starting point is 00:04:52 When it goes away, it's the worst. It's like, this is a little potty humor for you. I was on the potty at work and a sneeze snuck up. And naturally because I'm at work, I'm not like reading a book or anything, like I'm just sitting there to get out of there as fast as possible. I sneezed all over my own junk. Nate, episode title, I sneezed all over my... I will post that to Facebook. That's a good one.
Starting point is 00:05:19 I texted Morgan and I was like, what the hell? Is this 40? Is this just what happens? That's great. Anyway you keep going on. Prylapoo came out at the same time which would be even the best It's just the worst. That is a great story Well, that'll take me into my next segment, which is not really one. I didn't think I'd be following that but everyone So I've got a Reese's cup The trees version I saw this when I was in Erie, Pennsylvania last week visiting my parents and I thought a big gin and her hatred of my opinions so I
Starting point is 00:05:50 decided to give her the minute of the doubt and try this but my goal is that I eat it and I you know my original opinion stands firm that I don't like the ratio I don't I miss the ridges so let's crack it open and find out. So just if you guys want to talk for a second, and let me eat this and well, yeah, I mean, I'll say this is one thing I actually agree with you on. I think the holiday versions are kind of trash. You do need the ridges but I actually don't eat a lot of other races like it's either the
Starting point is 00:06:22 cups or the big cups. Like I don't really go for anything else. Yeah, I don't buy them, but the kids always end up with them from something and I sneak into their stash and Oh yeah, those magically go missing out of the kids. It's better for me to take that and not let them have the sugar. So So I will, I might, I might say I was 50% I take back some of what I said But I stand firm on some of the others. So I think initially I said that the ratio was off
Starting point is 00:06:50 I think the ratios are not as bad as I expected like the peanut butter to chocolate. I think it's I Guess it's different because it's a longer shape. So I like me eating the Reese Cup longer. So it's it's not that it's I don't know but One thing I not having the ridges though. Definitely the mouthfeel I do not like the mouthfeel the smooth mouthfeel versus the ridge mouthfeel I will 100% die on that hill it needs the spiked ridges all around it to just be a Reese Cup It's good But to me it almost tastes like a knockoff Reese Cup because it is missing its staple of the ridges
Starting point is 00:07:21 So I will consent a little bit and say it's not as bad as I expected but it's like a If a Reese Cup if a traditional Reese Cups a 9 out of 10 This is a 7 out of 10, maybe a 7 and a half at the most so yeah That's that you keep saying Reese Cup Reese's I wasn't gonna say it like every time I was like is he doing it on purpose? Reese's yeah, it's Reese's yeah, I've always said Reese. I think I don't know why but yeah Reese's cup But that doesn't sound that's right. Yeah, nothing beats a rigid Reese cup Reese's super Reese's
Starting point is 00:08:01 I think I pronounced that wrong my entire life I think I pronounced that wrong my entire life 100% oh well, I think you're right though. The mouthfeel is the key here. Yeah Feels it feels like a fucking knockoff brand like it's just weird So I don't know and I don't feel festive eating it didn't it just fucking it looked like a turd So it's not really I don't know So something Joey would sneeze on Those all those taste the best. Well, speaking of the best, you know, we've got to talk about the sister podcast.
Starting point is 00:08:33 They had, let's do a little rating that I didn't have any YouTube. I think Tommy, I don't know what happened today. It had something going on. I did not say I had to like double back and check from when we're recording right now. It'd been like 13 days since a YouTube since a YouTube video would come out I believe so not much we can talk about on that and But the Masonics episode was the Angelo 14. Oh the one of the two white lights podcast host Good episode. I think it's the second time they've had Angela on technically the third because they did like a power lifting giraffe on both channels possibly
Starting point is 00:09:03 You know, I like I like Two White Lights, you know. I used to like it more probably before I got into Strongman and now I like I like I still love powerlifting but I like love powerlifting, love powerlifting like 20% less probably so I just care less and just there's not as much drama anymore. The podcasts aren't as entertaining in general. My favorite part of the podcast specifically I guess was was with the, the power living podcast, Mount Rushmore, just because like they was harkening back to all these other podcasts that I've listened to for the last decade, essentially. And having like other dudes have similar opinions and like, be like, Oh, I
Starting point is 00:09:37 remember that podcast when they were talking about like Andy Wong and how he's done fucking like nine different podcasts with nine different other co-hosts. And I'm like, I've listened to every single episode of that. And he's right. It is the worst fucking audio quality like in history. But it's just like, there's not a, there wasn't a ton of other stuff out there of that genre. And I was really into it.
Starting point is 00:09:53 So for all those reasons, I will go ahead and give it a five out of five Reese's cups. Tell me what you think. You know, I enjoyed the update with the Verizon iPhone you know get the latest deals I need to go check what I can get. Angelo you know I haven't been listening to two white lights so it's nice to get an update what he's doing the direction of their podcast. I didn't know he'd switched over to PA instead of USAL. So that was definitely a five out of five Masonomics Gym iPod or iPad iPod touches. You know, like good episode. I also enjoyed all the iPhone talk
Starting point is 00:10:35 because you know, that's all I ever want to talk about right now is phone stuff. I did enjoy, of course, Angelo saying that nobody gives a shit about recap episodes anymore. I thought that was timely. I was like, did he listen to us? Like, did he know that we that that's been coming up? Uh, all the Edmund Fitzgerald talk. Oh, yeah.
Starting point is 00:10:58 I forgot about that. Yeah, that was good. That was good. Someone said, I don't, I didn't remember, uh remember that did Angela like just kind of shut it down Someone that discord said like right when you brought it up Angela just like immediately because they were like why is a history teacher? Have you ever and then he's just like like one second and then just completely like so he didn't even talk about it He just said that he hates when people ask about specific as if he knows everything and I don't I don't think that was really fair because like
Starting point is 00:11:23 Tanner wasn't like, would you know about this one particular like it's a song dude, like it's a big thing right now. And because you know the date just passed, it was November 12th that that ship sank. So for all that we're going to go ahead and give that five out of five we're holding our own. Yeah, the last message was sad. Anybody else? So I came up short on thinking about general topics this week. I don't know if anyone else.
Starting point is 00:11:52 Actually, I do have one more that I thought I put in there, but my my fucking app must have to close before we're safe. So I will call this the girthy banana segment here. So I packed a banana for lunch today without really paying attention to it with there was just two left on the stem segment here. So I packed a banana for lunch today without really paying attention to it. There was two left on the stem or whatever. I just grabbed the first one. I get there and start, you know, it's like 10 o'clock because I could let you know snack time. I grabbed the banana and that's when I first realized like, this is the thickest fucking
Starting point is 00:12:16 diameter day out banana I've ever had in my life. And like, so like think of a normal banana, you know, it's, you know, whatever. Call that like a 100 percent of a banana. This was like one point like six of any banana I've ever had. So trying to like I've never felt so assaulted trying to eat something in my life. It was like the weirdest. I did you still get it in there? Yeah, we we we we we took her down like a champ and I, you know, got got that potassium. But fuck, it was just an odd experience that I don't know. Did you stare in the mirror and make eye contact with yourself while you ate it?
Starting point is 00:12:49 No, no, it was a very good guy. I ran out to the trunk truck, grab it on my lunch pail, was like pretty much walking back to the job site. And I was like, this is the most awkward thing I've ever done in my life. But, you know, got to get that snack in. But it was just I'd never it was like a fucking eggplant. I was like, what is this? So boring. All the banana peeling talk,
Starting point is 00:13:08 I've actually completely changed the way I eat bananas now because I'm an adult human. So I actually cut it in half. And then I use the knife to like just scar it at the top so that it peels easier. It's way easier. Like, I don't know all this, like which end do you do or which end do you squeeze and pinch?
Starting point is 00:13:24 Just cut it in half and just like peel it. Like it's easy. We have hands and thumbs and opposable thumbs and tools. We can do this. What about you Toby? What's your banana consuming look like? Yeah I've never considered all these extra steps. I just pull it apart at the top and start eating it. Yeah that's usually how it goes for me. I was just blown away at the literal sheer girth. I was like, what the fuck? I never thought about the girth of a banana though. So well, honestly, all I could think about was like, like all the memes I've made about Tanner holding up the banana.
Starting point is 00:13:55 And I'm like, oh, I'm glad no one's here to meme this. Did you see my home gym tour? Yeah, that was pretty dope. Yeah, I enjoyed that. Oh, I haven't seen it yet. I saw that you were going to post it off to check that out. Home Gym Hub posted for me. I just sent them the videos like, do you think this is any good? And they were like, you know what? I'm just going to post this and tag you. And I was like, oh, okay, that works.
Starting point is 00:14:15 Right, right. Yeah, I've seen a lot of them. Yep. I mean, at first I just made it as a joke, right? Like I was just like, I was just filming going like, and that's a dead butt lift bar. And that's and I was just like, I was like, I'm gonna mock all those people that do home gyms. But then the home gym hub was like, no, like, genuinely make one. And it's like, damn it. Okay. So yeah, that's first time I ever did that. No, it was pretty cool. I see your space. I've never seen it like, that's certain. I never seen it like a, let's go through it. It's just like, you know, this is this is the east side and the west, you know, it's like actually being able to see it in like a Three-dimensional view I guess if that would be the term. It's not fancy. Where did you and Kevin come out in that bracket?
Starting point is 00:14:53 I know you were the last two standing right? So Kevin made it to the final four I believe I think Kevin lost Kevin and I both lost to the guy that won I lost to him like two out, Kevin lost to him one out, and then the guy that we lost to won against someone else. But then he did like a, Home Gym Hub did a re-ranking of basically, or sorry, a re-seeding. So I'm not sure what algorithm he used on that, what mean, median, mode he put together.
Starting point is 00:15:19 It was just total points, total votes, whatever, or margin of victory, whatever it was. But in the reated, it was, as far as crew finishers, me, Carp, Kevin, I think were basically like four, five, six total out of all 100. And then I think little sweeties was like 10, and Big Murph was in there Sorry, if any other crew were in like the top 20 or whatever the receipt that I can't remember
Starting point is 00:15:49 but I think that we yeah the other the other guy that was a Not strong just fat is that or not from my fat just strong. Yeah, he's out in California Yeah, he was I think he was up there in the top 22 with us cuz he I think he actually Went as far as Kevin did or maybe as far as I did one of those rounds But it was cool though out of the hundred I think what there was like 20 plus crew and you know Six of us made it, you know halfway and the three or four of us made it till they like the final eight Maybe so there's final 12 16. Whatever. It was pretty cool
Starting point is 00:16:20 Good work on our victory crew. Yeah that dude ended up joining crew just to like kind of get more. And I don't know that he even knows who's Mastanomics is without like, you know, even the DMs of some of us and realizing like, there's a lot of these guys that have like the same flags in their garages. It's just like, so I don't know. But we'll more to come on that if we actually I've got a little bit of the story of who the guy is, but not too much. But I think there's some under the wrap stuff that I've been told in secrecy so.
Starting point is 00:16:49 Yeah, he said he wanted to kind of keep that close. Yeah, so let him do what he wants with that and I think that'll wrap up general topics unless Toby in all his big social media saw stuff that we didn't see this week. No, I'm ready. You guys give me what you got here. All right. Well, I guess you give us what you got with little sponsored if you're ready, boss. Oh, yeah. I punch this out. High quality writing here. Massonomics lifting and drinking are all we know.
Starting point is 00:17:19 We love memes, but we only understand them if they're about lifting and drinking. Do you like beating old jokes into the ground like a dead horse from piping hot sparkling water to overpriced shorts and a tanner's lack of quads? Do you have a strong do you have a strongly held belief that we used to be a proper country for as little as three dollars a month you can have friends and be a part of all of this. Mastodonics who needs a cult when you can have a crew. Nice. Well done. That's a good catch line. Do like by the best line. I came up with That was a good one
Starting point is 00:17:50 All right, get our guest on the horn then kick all these little losers. Yeah carp. You got to go buddy That's funny. He is actually there. I know yeah, I just had to like I just had to He's been in my video screen the whole time like just as like big carp So I had to like hide I forgot there was a setting to hide all non video Participants cuz I like all right now I can actually focus on those beautiful blue eyes staring at me Hey big Toby, is that you there? That's me. What are you up to guys? You know live in someone's dream here over on unpaid and underrated You are live on the podcast name. I just said
Starting point is 00:18:25 So let's dive right into it. Look man, normally I've had a beer by now and I'm all, and so now I'm just like, I'm all hopped up on Coca Cola. Oh buddy. All right. All right there, big Toby. So we want to hear your Mastinomics origin story. When'd you first find the podcast?
Starting point is 00:18:41 When did you join crew? Where are you at in the backlog? Basically give us the whole rundown on the one on your experience with the boys and the crew right now I'm through through the whole backlog of every episode so this is number 12. This gives me silly pint level. Hey I thought it was gonna happen at crew Falls, but this happened first so nice So you're gonna hit like you even hit you because you'll pick up a couple extra are you gonna pick up any more at crew falls other than crew falls no that would be 13 that's nice and then i'll have to wait for my four-year mark and i gotta i gotta get on i gotta get my voice on the pod sometime when they do a calling episode
Starting point is 00:19:19 okay so realistically would would even be like a jacket level here in the next year or so Okay, so realistically would even be like jacket level here in the next year or so. Year and a half, I will hit the four year mark. So that's when I expect it to happen. I probably won't make it to the Arnold. That's less likely. Gotcha. But yeah, this is number 12. Um, about three, three and a half years ago, I started the home gym.
Starting point is 00:19:39 Okay. I initially wanted to like a pull-up bar and a little things. And I was like, well, I'll just get a rack and a bench and a barbell. And then I was like, well, I should, I should learn how to really use this barbell. So I went, I'm on the internet. I'm looking for resources on how to squad, how to deadlift, how to bench. I'm looking, I'm looking for power lifters, you know, coaches on Instagram that put out content and massanomics was showing up in my, in my feed there.
Starting point is 00:20:03 And, and I just kept seeing them. I'm like, oh, this is funny. Oh, that's funny. I my feed there, and I just kept seeing them. I'm like, oh, this is funny. Oh, that's funny. I'm like, oh, I should follow these guys, all right. Then I'm following, and then I'm like, oh, they have a podcast. I should check that out.
Starting point is 00:20:14 Checked it out, and I'm like, oh, these guys are, you know, a couple of Midwestern guys. That's where I was born, in Iowa. And I was like, oh, they're funny. And then, oh, they have some merch. And I made my first purchase, which was funny and I just oh they have some merch and I made my first purchase which was the dark side T and the lift shorts And then at that point I had started listening to the pot like I'm gonna I'm gonna pay money to support these guys
Starting point is 00:20:35 Just yeah, right And then a couple months later, I'm signing up signing up for crew that was April or May 22 when I signed up so two and a half years ago. Nice. And you know like that somebody put out that meme today it was kind of these steps and the last one is I'm in South Dakota with all my friends and that's where it ended up.
Starting point is 00:20:59 Yeah I did I did a version of that a long time ago with the clown makeup. It's like, oh, these guys have these guys have funny merge. And then at the bottom, it's just like traveling across the continent to go and visit them or something. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Pretty good. And I'm going back again. Yeah, me too. Think you make it. Oh, yeah, you're going to lift hard, Lizzie three as well or just screw falls. Me both. Yeah. Oh, dope. OK. Good.. Okay good man going all in I love it. I love it So just in case the listeners missed you want to introduce yourself and give them your IG
Starting point is 00:21:35 Yeah, big Toby. I live out here in Arizona my Instagram is Toby one Kenobi, but it's Toby underscore one underscore KNBI because I couldn't that's the best version of Kenobi I could get when I when I signed up anyone listening that doesn't follow Toby just start typing in TOB and I'm sure he'll be one of the first like two people to come up because you're gonna have about 60 mutuals more than likely so it should be easy enough yeah I
Starting point is 00:22:03 usually get suggestions for follows and I you and I click on it and if they've got like a lift flag in the background or something, okay, they've got to be either crew or crew adjacent here. Yeah, it's usually a good bet. What about the supporting membership number? Were you around for the first card or just the second card? Yeah, you should have got both for sure. Yeah, the first card I was 173 with the latest one I'm down to 120. Nice nice.
Starting point is 00:22:28 Just behind me there I think that's awesome. Maybe maybe another round or crack a hundred I don't know. Well I mean for your sake I hope so but for the rest of it I mean for for Cruz's sake like I kind of I don't know I'm curious like just if we're just naturally are gonna just keep losing like you know 10 a year and gaining 20 a year kind of thing. Like, I would hope that the top 100 like starts to solidify and at some point like, like who's leaving at this point? Like, I don't know. Right, right. You might have maybe, if you get your card off file, don't you get booted to a new number? Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Starting point is 00:23:01 Big Matt's like fucking number 470 now or something. It's the best thing ever It was when he posted the picture of his old card of like with like number 25 and then his new card was like 500 fucking above it. I just If it was gonna happen to anybody it would have been mad It cracked me up So so what about the the one piece of mass economics merch that you wish you had gotten? Yeah, I know exactly what that is. It's the don't curl in me tank top. Yeah. Yeah, I've got the tea Oftentimes you'll see Travis Wartmeyer still still wearing it on his post, but that's when I missed
Starting point is 00:23:43 I'm so good one. I forgot it was something I saw in discord this week and I even made a comment about like I'm gonna ask that on the podcast It was I think it was the similar to this question But the more the gist was like one piece of merch that you can keep like I think I'm paraphrasing what it was But basically you have to clear out your wardrobe of massonomomics. You can keep one thing. What are you keeping? Probably the huge life shirt. Okay. Yeah, I know that's it's an old one that Was in the vault when I joined it came back and I snapped it up right away Should I should have got to yeah great blank?
Starting point is 00:24:22 And it's just like it's just a funny shirt. Right. Right. And then, you know, I'm ordering a beer and I'm ordering a Miller Huge Life. Right. Like. For me, I said the Huge Life shirt, but I'll be honest, it's probably going to be these blue shorts. Mm hmm. The new ones. Yeah. No, wait, the Silky's.
Starting point is 00:24:43 Do those count? Yeah. I mean, they were never actually released, though, were they? Because they were, aren't they always a crew excuse? I think they got those printed up right before the, because they were all Lyft logoed. And then I think the Lyft logo thing came in and kind of wiped them out.
Starting point is 00:24:57 So I think those were only, I mean, yes, they count. But I'm just saying, I don't think those ever went to market at all. Yeah, well, I don't know if that counts then. So if it did. Crew link. Yeah, I don't know that counts then so if it link. Yeah So huge life shirts first and if it counts in like one and a half place is Silky's cuz I like I lose them and then I get mad for like a week and then I find them again
Starting point is 00:25:17 And I'm so happy and I lose them again because they're literally like like this much fabric I think I'd have to go with the bench heavy shirt. Like I might have ones that I like more, but I don't know though. Like it's also the most, I've had conversations start and like I've never got as many like nods or smiles or like head nods kind of thing as the bench heavy one,
Starting point is 00:25:40 just because I think it's like people resonate with that. And I drank a lot of Bush light fucking growing up. So that, you know, that that one sticks to like the Bush light shirt sticks out to me more than pretty much any other shirt. I drank a lot of Miller Lite, too. But I drank probably more Bush light than Miller Lite as a kid. So, yeah, that's like that's what I would go with. Let's see.
Starting point is 00:26:02 I don't have anything for least fun, most fun written down, so we're going to have to have Joey go into some crew questions. Why figure out where the hell that went? I mean, there's tons to ask. There is. I just I thought I thought I typed something up earlier. Might something wrong with my dog? Okay. Least fun, most fun. Seeing big Joey across the street screaming, hey, get over and join this picture.
Starting point is 00:26:24 And your daughter running out and scaring the crap out of all of us. Oh my gosh. And then worst of all, she took it so personally when we were like, you can't do that. Well, that was the least fun. I felt so bad. I wanted to go and make her feel better. So she heard somebody yell run on.
Starting point is 00:26:43 She just assumed it was for her to and she didn't look, so she's at the age where still telling her you still gotta look at the strength. And she broke down. Obviously the best part was that was the first time that I saw pretty much. Other than a couple instances before the lift hard that's the first time that I saw anybody in person Okay, yeah, yeah, well actually I don't even think I recognized you at first Yeah, I was wearing a bench heavy tank top. So I somebody just assumed Oh, I yelled that guy's got to be crew get him in the picture. Yeah, and I think it was Murph or Jen Jen it was Jen. It was Jen. Yeah. Okay. Somebody smarter than me.
Starting point is 00:27:27 It's like, that's Toby. I was like, that's Toby. Yeah, that was her. Nice. I was carrying my slice of Casey's pizza. Yeah. Oh yeah. I remember thinking about it.
Starting point is 00:27:38 Yeah, I was there. Yeah, that was, yeah, because I think you ended up, yeah, you showed up like just a hair after us, right? Or... Yeah, I came walking from the Casey's side and- Oh, you were already there. Okay. Then you were already over there or something and there's a whole bunch of you They've seen for the first time in us. Well, hey Everybody so speaking of him. Here's one of the questions from him who's gonna put up 700 first
Starting point is 00:28:01 Was I was just I was messy just messes him I said where you at I was I was just I was messy just messes him. I said, where are you at? Wow I feel if you look behind me or I got a couple of tools here I know this won't be on the pond that are gonna lead me to my victory here the new whippy bar and the suit so He got so scared to watch me pull 300 kilograms the other day that he went on I was scared to watch me pull 300 kilograms the other day that he went out and bought a Cheating Deadlift Bar and a brand new metal deadlift suit.
Starting point is 00:28:27 That's all right. Yeah, you know, I gotta see how many bumpers I can fit on there before I, you know. That's fair. You gotta put a couple pair of collars on first and then start putting the plates on. Yeah, the sleeves aren't that long, so bumpers would fill it up super fast, but.
Starting point is 00:28:43 Who makes the Whippy Bar? Kabuki. It's the Kabuki Dead fast but. Who makes the wippy bar. Who is the kabuki deadlift bar he got the bookie kabuki of pretty much on their closeout sale for 300 bucks or something. I bid on that to a part posted that deal and I got the duffel bar with it is a bottle rice. Yeah, oh, that's right. Yeah, I was like buy buy one like at a discount price and get one basically fucking free, right? So I'm selling the Duffalo bar. Somebody's actually supposed to get tomorrow. Yeah, I'm gonna sell my rogue Yeah, for sure. Well, why do you not want the Duffalo bar? I Think it's a great bar, but part of justifying the deal was that I got you it was making your money back Okay, okay, I can sell that I can sell my rogue and I get a really cheap kabuki net out of the deal.
Starting point is 00:29:29 I gotcha, I gotcha, that makes sense. But oh man. That bar is super fun to pull on. I've used that bar. Actually, I used it at Keith's and all my meets. Who do I know that has an Ohio bar? I do. Maniacs are like pulling on a stiff bar. Basically, there's a guy here
Starting point is 00:29:48 there's a guy here in bin brook that does this thing called bin brook home gym and Part of me thinks he's a reseller of rogue because his entire garage is rogue Like you're a rogue influencer and I never see him left. So I don't know They're all really pristine. So that's why I assume he's just like a sales for something. But maybe I'm going to like message him and go, can I come like chalk up your gym? Some people just like having a pretty gym and you wonder if they lift in it. But now there's there's some days I feel like I don't lift in mine where it's like, what fuck?
Starting point is 00:30:20 It's been like four days. I feel like if you miss one session, it ends up being like four days between sessions sometimes. And I'm like, fuck, this isn't cool. Like I miss my gym. But then it also is like, oh, when you do get back in it after those two or three days off, I'm home again. This is where I belong. I think the next day I get to lift is like Monday or something.
Starting point is 00:30:39 So what you need to do is challenge somebody on the internet to a race to a 700 pound deadlift. And then you'd never miss a day anymore because they're breathing down your neck. Exactly. I don't feel like lifting today. I just think of Dodds and I'm like, no, get it out there and lift. So what happens if neither of you hit 700?
Starting point is 00:30:58 Is it just a race to 50 years old first? Well, I'll win that. He's got a few months on me so he would win that one but uh yeah I don't know but uh I think it's unlikely that 700 will be pulled. Yeah it's gonna happen. I think it's more likely we both pull it for sure. Just whoever gets there first is the question. The funny thing it's kind of those things too it's like the first person to do it and then the other guy would be like, well, if he can fucking do it, I can do it.
Starting point is 00:31:27 And he does it like a week later. It's just like, you know, You have to pull 701. Yeah, yeah. Well, it's like the first guy to do the however long mile and then like, and now like a, you know, a year later, a million people could do it basically. So well, hopefully that's, you know, you guys can feed off that each other, feed off of that energy towards each other and you know have that fun fun little rivalry. Whoever does it first. Sorry Toby, go ahead. No I say I'm chomping to get at it
Starting point is 00:31:54 this most of this year I've been doing these high poles you know we had 18 inch at lift hard. I had a car deadlift it was like 15 inches. Back to you know standard deadlifts the first couple of weeks were so weird because I might everything was in the wrong place and I'll get that sorted out soon and those numbers start going up. So whoever does it first, the second person just make sure that it's in your home gym and your dad calibrates the weights for you and then all you have to do is pull an extra two or three pounds and just make sure nobody checks well I should have put like those rogue competition parameters here he has to weigh every
Starting point is 00:32:32 day on tape mark them one continuous video so he can't switch the plates out the 700 actually just recently weighed all almost all of my plates and my bar because I wanted to make sure that I was pulling In my head I'm good Yeah, I've done the same thing. Obviously I have strength go plates. Mostly they were all spot-on. I've rolled plates They were all spot-on. So, yep And I believe Toby says he pulls 700 I Yep. And if Toby says he pulls 700, I 100% believe that he pulled it. I know there's no top foolery. We are gentlemen. 100%.
Starting point is 00:33:13 Keith, did you come up with a real least fun most fun during all that? So I want to know, least fun, most fun, having a garage where you live. Sorry, a garage gym where you live. Oh, man. Uh, least fun is pretty Arizona, right? Yeah. It's obvious is that I spent three or four months just baking in here. Yep.
Starting point is 00:33:35 Uh, it's usually a hundred degrees inside of the garage. Um, it's 80 degrees in here right now. And so in the end of the end of November, it's 80 degrees in here right now. I don't know. And this is the end of November and it's 80 degrees. Yeah, I mean most of it's insulated to the house so it kind of just holds temp. That's obviously the least fun, it's just so hot in here. The most fun is the fact that I can pretty much schedule my training sessions every week when I'm gonna do them. The wife can be at work, kids are home, all I gotta do is say I'll be in the garage. They come out here, they can come out and play. They can come out and play with their friends across the street and I get all my lifts in without having to
Starting point is 00:34:18 worry about, well I can't take them to a commercial powerlifting gym four times a week. You know, get them dinner, go out and lift and they can come in and out as they want. That's honestly the best part. If you let the dads of the block know. Well, of course, you know, that's why I got to keep the door open. So when everybody's walking by. Yeah, I heard you cause traffic jams when you're doing that. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:34:46 That's his favorite thing to do is help direct traffic, I read. I'm going to say no. Well, we heard. There was a whole paragraph on it. Yeah, there was a lot of job stuff about that. About directing traffic? Yeah, and that was one of your least favorite things when you're helping the firefighters. Oh, that'd be Derek. Yeah, anytime you're out in the middle of the street is just not a good time.
Starting point is 00:35:15 But I guess since you already opened that, you just want to tell me what you do for a living if you're comfortable talking about that for a minute? Yeah, no problem. I'm a Phoenix PD and I've been there almost 19 years Just on the streets on the on patrol so you're putting in papers then in a year and a half and I think I saw you're gonna Take the retirement and yeah, I'll probably bounce in about a year and a half or so nice That what do you have? Like do you think you're gonna do a part-time gig or anything, or is it all going to be like dad and lifting and whatever the old lady tells you to do around the house?
Starting point is 00:35:49 Yeah, pretty much. Then I can do the dad thing at home and get my pension. And she'll still be working for a while. So I'll be the stay-at-home dad, hopefully. Nice. That sounds awesome. That sounds like the dream, buddy. Yeah, that's the dream.
Starting point is 00:36:04 Well, speaking of being a dad dad we got a was it a big big Cody. He wants to know what's your uh, what is it? What is your best dad feet of strength outside of strongman and like gym in general like what's I guess something? What's a defeat of dad strength? It's not barbell related. Oh Well Kind of what can it be from work? This was pretty recent. There was a light pole down in the street after somebody crashed into it. Did you tell the light pole? Well, somebody's like, well, we're gonna have to wait for the streets department to get
Starting point is 00:36:39 out here because they did their and I looked, I looked at the time and it's, it's like time to go home. And I said, that was the motivating factor. Yeah. Hold on. Cause these two people couldn't move it. So I went over there and I'm like, picked up one and dragged it out of the street. And I'm like, all right, we're good. It was really heavy. So I was like, I felt pretty good about that. I did that at work the other day. They put a skid too close to my, to the close to my kiosk. And I had to get into the kiosk, and there was no forklifts around.
Starting point is 00:37:10 I did it again, because this is not the first time I've done it. I was just like, I just grabbed this giant, it will be two fridges, and I was just like, move. Joey's the forklift. Yeah, I am the forklift. That story definitely resonated, though,, like I, I have like different rules, I guess, it's like, all right, how late, like things that I'm willing to do at work to be able to get to go
Starting point is 00:37:32 home is like, like, not necessarily like breaking safety protocol, but kind of sort of sometimes where it's like, all right, what do I need to do in the last hour to be able to go home and be home at, you know, normal time? And yeah, there's definitely a little bit of different rules. So that's normal time and yeah, there's definitely a little bit of different rules. So that's uh, I resonate with that. Uh, let's see. The big Jeff wants to know what the best part I have in your daughter's life with you in the gym is. Uh, I mean the best part is just seeing them enjoy themselves. Uh, you know, they're physically active. They like being
Starting point is 00:38:01 active. Uh, so whenever they want to join in, I let them join. Obviously I don't have them on any sets and reps program, but they come out and they want to lift something, I get their little bar out, or they love the yoke, they climb all over the yoke and swing on it, make little climbing things out of the sandbags, jump around, and I mean, that goes back to the most fun of having it here is that I can be lifting and they can be out here having fun seeing me work out
Starting point is 00:38:28 and like it's a you know it's a regular habit you want to do I tell the crew with the name of your yoke is yeah it's the yoker it's green and black I'm assuming you got that at like a closeout strongman gym or something? Yeah it was a marketplace deal. I think the guy had owned a CrossFit style gym in the past and he had a garage full of stuff he was offloading on the marketplace. It looks homemade. The holes are too far apart and all this but it's sturdy so it works. It'll do. Does it make yoke icons easier when you get on regulations, a little bit smaller yoke? I don't know.
Starting point is 00:39:15 The main thing with this is the holes are too far apart. So I either got to set it too low, which is fine if it's light, or I got to set it too high if it's light or I got to set it too high if it's heavy and then that makes it so I got almost like hunch to keep the feet from hitting the ground the whole time I honestly I've been trying to figure out I'm sure it can be done if you're handy or whatever drill some more holes through this thing yeah get it to the right height I mean find a machine shop or whatever just a matter of do you have enough meat in between the existing holes to actually get an additional one right there four inches so we could
Starting point is 00:39:49 Sure you could yeah, yeah, I just want to make them to two inches like you would at a rack or something Yeah, I think it's like a hundred bucks to the machine shop You can probably get them to drill a couple I mean you could do it yourself just a matter of like well I guess in a year and a half when you have all the time in the world you could do it but if Want it done before that you probably take it to a machine shop where they should Press and the oil and all that right my next comp in February has a has a yoke So I'm gonna be working it before that so I should probably figure that out
Starting point is 00:40:14 Alright, so much Probably to the last crew question here and then we can get on to some of the other stuff big carp wants to know The strangest strongman implement you've ever had facing competition. Scringest. Most of them have been pretty straightforward. Barbells, logs, axles, stones, bags. I guess for me it would be the keg overhead press. Yeah, I know it's a big...
Starting point is 00:40:43 I think I've done that one. I've done that once. It's a good event. I know for our buddy Dodds over there, he know it's a big I think I've done that one I've done that once it's a good event I know for our buddy dots over there. He loves it I hated it. Just cleaning a 200 pound keg putting it on your shoulder and getting overhead is just so awkward. Mm-hmm Because the weight shifts too, doesn't it? So like one arm If it's not a 100% full, yeah the stuff shifts around as you're cleaning it and trying to press it. Well, I mean, water is the worst, but there hopefully should be sand in there. No, people gravel beat me to it.
Starting point is 00:41:14 No, he's wrong. I love the cake. Press so much. I knew it. Yeah. What's your favorite smelling salt? Code unpaid absidue pneumonia? Yes. You know, I don't use it that much. Once and I will while I will.
Starting point is 00:41:31 It's probably the Dakota Breeze that I have. No, that's a good I don't I don't open it a whole lot. So when I do, it's still got a little punch in there. I've got the the pumpkin spice lobotomy at work. Because like I'm I am doing like 1012 hour shifts right now. And that stuff helps. But it's just funny when you see like customers staring at you like, what are you doing? And like, you know, you're one eyes watering and you're like, Oh, yeah, I shouldn't be doing
Starting point is 00:41:57 this here. When it's been a while, but when my while, when my wife started following like, you know crew people on internet or Instagram and stuff and she saw scans his videos And she's like, what is he doing? What is it? He's shaking his head putting that thing in his nose Is that just for show and I was like, no, he's sniffing the salts there. That's funny. I Have family members reach out to me every day as he was like on Facebook concerned for my health because of the ammonia. Yeah. Is that good for you? No.
Starting point is 00:42:33 It's why I'm doing it. Alright. Usually they're concerned cuz you're gonna hurt your back doing all that stuff. Yeah. No **** I hear that my mother-in-law literally said that the other day. I was like shut up So did you read did you basically have you found? Strength training as an adult more recently or just something you've been into your whole life as far or or strongly and specifically like I guess Take us on your lifting history journey. Yeah, I mean I did not lift until college and I that was just kind of a I'd go in the gym for 30 minutes have no idea what I was doing you know move a few weights around with
Starting point is 00:43:09 no idea and then I'd go play rec basketball you know a little dune ball and after college I did a lot and a lot of running in my 20s a lot of like endurance type stuff I a couple years I did MMA training for a couple years. And then I got into a gym bro, LA fitness after that. Go do a couple sets of bench, a couple sets of curls. Never do anything with legs or squats or deadlifts. I did a lot of calisthenics stuff. When I was starting my gym, I kind of wanted to be able to do pull-ups, muscle-ups, I want to be able to get box jumps. But I bought more and like I said, I should learn how to do this. I was 39 and that's when I started doing barbell work with squats and deadlifts.
Starting point is 00:44:01 I said, all right, this is cool. I actually, as I was getting to that, I signed up for Juggernaut. I did a about six months on Juggernaut and I was like, okay, I'm going to look for a powerlifting meet. I'm going to do a real meet. And then Jim down the street posted their first annual strongman competition. And I was like, huh, that looks fun. So I hopped in a couple, maybe less than a couple months out and After that day, I was like I'm gonna keep doing this
Starting point is 00:44:30 No for the last, you know to two years or so. I've been competing three four times a year That's pretty damn impressive to not deadlift your entire life pick it up at 39 And now you're dead lifting in the low mid 600 chasing down 700 I don't know if I've ever heard somebody jump in so late and get so strong so fast that's pretty awesome I appreciate that yeah I was I was in really good shape like I did a lot of running and jumping and pull-ups and push-ups and and then when I got the barbell, I was like, all right, well,
Starting point is 00:45:07 let's put, let's lift, let's put on some weight. I'm in my forties and let's see what I can do here. And then, you know, it went up pretty fast at the beginning, so. Let's get bigger. I know I got 20 more pounds. I can fill out the lift hard, live easy to 270, but I don't think I can eat that much Well, you got a more more room to gain than was it a big Cody?
Starting point is 00:45:33 He missed out on the 220 spot So he had to take a 270 but I'm curious if he only weighs in at like 280 I mean, I don't Jake's not gonna care but like he might he probably won't even be 220 I don't know. No, I think he weighed in around 210 last year, which was pretty big for him. And I mean Cody's a beast He he can handle jumping up away class. He's still be he'll still be a contender indeed He's a strong dude So tell us about your love for Star Wars
Starting point is 00:46:02 in general the the it the Toby Wan? Obviously is the Obi Wan. So has that just been a childhood thing or something you got, you know? Well, I am a fan. I watch, you know, all the movies and I enjoy a lot of the, uh, the shows, the Clone Wars, uh, rebels and all that stuff. Um, that actually started out just because that's the only real nickname I ever sort of had is I was born, you know, in the early eighties. So the original
Starting point is 00:46:31 trilogy was pretty popular. My dad was young in his mid twenties and his friends would come over and they just called me Toby one Kenobi. That's just kind of stuck around. That was, that's the only real nickname was from my dad's friends when I was a kid because they thought Toby and I'll be rhymed and You know, so I stuck with it when I started the Instagram. I'm like, hmm, what's the only nickname I ever had? All right, let's do this role with that But I but I do enjoy the shows and I'm rewatching the Clone Wars right now actually Did you ever get into the to the Disney shows? shows? Because you just mentioned more of the animated series.
Starting point is 00:47:06 What about like the four or five live actions that Disney's been pumping out the last five years? Yeah, Mandalorian, Ahsoka, Boba Fett, or the Book of Boba, whatever. I mean, that one was at the greatest. That was the Mandalorian too. Yeah, Andor was pretty good. I loved Andor.
Starting point is 00:47:24 Yeah, Andor was great. Did you watch the best version of Clone Wars, the original Clone War cartoon shorts done by the Samurai Jack guy? I've seen quite a few. I don't think I've been through all of them. It's definitely an interesting watch. Those ones, I haven't even seen those. But I also canceled Disney recently, so maybe I won't. Yeah, they're on there. All right, boys, I appreciate you letting me jump in and interrupt your podcast and talk to Big Toby.
Starting point is 00:47:55 I'm off to work. I'm off head and side. Have fun. I can't wait to listen to that whole episode. Take care, Big Hot. All right, and then there was three. Oh, our car's still here. So, last night- It's working, it says. It does, yeah.
Starting point is 00:48:07 That's okay. He's always welcome. So last night, I figured I wanted to work out and I had a beer. And I think Morgan said something and I pretended to be offended I was just like how dare you I'm going to the gym And she's like you're going to the gym with a beer. What's the matter with you? So tell me about lifting heavy things while slightly inebriated Yeah, I this has to be.
Starting point is 00:48:47 I don't really get inebriated that much. But the last time I did was about a year ago. We had a party at our house. So I'm home. I'm not going to drive anywhere. I had quite a few drinks. And at the end of the night, I was trying to overhead press my wife.
Starting point is 00:49:04 She's well under what I can do. I mean, she's well under the weight that I could do So this is like a warm-up and but I had a little too much Basically dropped her back over my head Bounce off of a chair in the living room and I'm like, okay, that's done Not injured so it's it's funny now yeah, she said something on the lines of your ego was probably more hurt than the Than she was Definitely I was embarrassed. Yeah
Starting point is 00:49:35 That was Well, that's why people come on the unpaid and underrated podcast It's you know, we'll talk them up and then we got a you know, not you know embarrassed from just a little bit here and there Yeah, so yeah, I mean the more the moral is if you're white even if she's warm up weight If you've had about ten drinks, you should probably just not try it Okay, so let's get into that like as far as a Test of strength whatever is this something you've picked her up like stone-cold sober? Because like picking up a human planking is completely different from picking up a barbell or an axe or a log like The amount of like wiggle no matter how stiff and they're trying to be and how brace their core is right fucking
Starting point is 00:50:14 It's a it's a core and four limbs and a head like it's gonna be moving and you know going all over the place You've never wrestled Right, right. Tell me you've never wrestled. She's not that big. Yeah, she's light enough. That's not the problem. Yeah, I mean, I bet Scott probably got to pick her up that night. You know, overhead. And me and her and I know every kid in there. In the just trying to add some fuel to the fire. And he does. I need to see that I need to Yep Yeah, when you're not when you're not used to that many drinks. Yeah, the coordination was was not there. Let's say that
Starting point is 00:50:51 Yeah, I don't think I'd want to I don't I mean I get I get You know tuned up just a handful of times a year and I don't think I'd want to touch a barbell or do anything Strength related because then it's just like you you get that Uh, you get that confidence the next thing I know you're trying to jump on something you blow your fucking ACL out or something and call you big Tanner for six months That doesn't sound good Yeah, you know what I write all these notes earlier It is a I went through everything and now it's like I'm trying I can't remember any of it until I actually reread it
Starting point is 00:51:21 So sorry, Toby. We're getting there, buddy It's been a long week for everybody. And then Joey's overwhelmed at work. I've had a crazy week. We are glad to get you on here. This has been, this has been a work in progress. Anyone that feels like, Dad, damn it, why wasn't Toby on 60 episodes ago? He's pretty, you know, OG crew and is very active and everything. Toby just had, you know, scheduling conflicts, the dad, he couldn't make our timeframe
Starting point is 00:51:44 work. And he had to pick a week that kind of where the where we Toby just had scheduling conflicts. The dad, he couldn't make our timeframe work and he had to pick a week. They kind of, where we were back a week or ahead a week or whatever with the daylight savings. So we're just a little bit closer. So we appreciate you being able to rearrange your evening a little bit and being on here with us. And I'm glad we were able to make it work.
Starting point is 00:51:59 Yeah, the wife, she got home early so that she could go take care of the kids. But yeah, I was also you know very hesitant because uh talking I don't think I'm gonna be able to listen to this in my own voice is gonna be so cringy Most people die I wouldn't say most I know a lot of people won't like like I have multiple like people that I'm you know Close to in DMS and stuff They're like yeah, I will never listen to the episode that we recorded together like I had a blast Thanks for having me on not listening to the podcast. I'm like, no, I listened through Daniel's because everybody was making references
Starting point is 00:52:29 that I'd forgotten about. And actually, one of the funny things is sometimes he sounds like me. So he had like his giggle is almost the same as mine. And there was a couple times where I was just going like, that's wild like that. I don't remember during the recording that coming up. I'm going to go with a Mount Rushmore because I am a little interested in this And Mount Rushmore of pop punk bands Okay, I Think you have to put on blink 182 Yeah, I think they fit that category the best
Starting point is 00:53:02 Very much pop very much whiny punk And I was a big fan. I stood outside of a Best Buy, like 20 something years ago, on the day one of their albums released, so I could get inside and get my hands on it. So, and from high school too, Blink-182 has got to be up there.
Starting point is 00:53:22 I think Sum 41 is kind of like the Canadian Blink-182 has got to be up there. I think Sum 41 is kind of like the Canadian Blink-182 almost. Very similar styles, ton of great music. I'm gonna go with My Chemical Romance. It's probably a lot more, you know, more the emo side of things, but I still think they had enough popular success to qualify in the pop punky type era. And then I would probably put on Less Than Jake. Oh, okay. They had some success. And again, they had a lot more elements of ska,
Starting point is 00:54:02 but I still think they're pop punky. Just a ton of good stuff. Yeah, that's who I'd put up there. But that is so hard because I can rattle off another 10 that could be there. Somebody threw out Simple Plan that you were a fan of them. Yeah, there's quite a few in here that. Oh, I was thinking about this too. It also mentioned that you're kind of getting into falling in reverse. So are you following that trajectory of It was like his wife falling in reverse when he couldn't pick her up Music doesn't do it anymore. Like you have to go heavier and heavier and heavier I know falling in reverse is a little on the heavier side I mean, maybe I kind of bounce around like a lot lot today I actually had like a less than Jake mix on
Starting point is 00:54:49 for you know Spotify a lot of times when I'm lifting I'll do see I don't know as much about music as you probably do is are they like metalcore? Yeah yeah I think that would be the best description. See I've been listening to a lot more than metalcore like falling in reverse See, I've been listening to a lot more of that metalcore, like Falling In Reverse, Beartooth, and I think you had it on the head last week when you were talking to Daniel, that they have a bit of an emo feel to them. Like you said, I think you said Beartooth was too emo for you. I actually like that, because it kind of links the metal core with the pop punky emo sound? So I've really been yeah, I've really been into that type of stuff recently
Starting point is 00:55:31 You know bring me the horizon falling in reverse bear tooth a lot of stuff in that vein and a lot of stuff I don't even know what it is because I'll put on like a mix on Spotify and I don't even know what it is because I'll put on like a mix on Spotify. And like these days, I don't have albums or CDs even. And like I'd have to go back through and see what I looked at. But. Yeah, there that just this me more. It was just like somebody getting into I want to say it was like Blink 182. And they're like, oh, you know, I like this rock music. And then fast forward 20 years and they're listening to like
Starting point is 00:56:02 deathcore in the gym, right? The Goblin Metal. Yeah, I know there's some of you guys. I don't think I can do that yet, but talk to me in a couple years. Maybe we'll be there. I don't know. That is the trajectory. So you had mentioned, I, I, maybe I heard it wrong, but you were talking about emo music. Did you say emu music?
Starting point is 00:56:23 Because I hear you have a story about uh in in emu and i want to hear it yeah i i don't know i don't know who even got that to you um uh believe it or not in the city of phoenix probably 16 no 17 years ago we were chasing an emo around the street It was running around in traffic So that how's that come across the call on the radio like loose animal or like like someone's an ostrich looking fucking thing Like no one knows how to hold it right? Yeah, it will I mean you get like a loose animal call and you like it's a moon All right. I'm yeah, right. Let's go check it out. And there was an emu running through traffic in Phoenix,
Starting point is 00:57:08 a little toward the edge where it used to be kind of rural, but, uh, we chased it around, tried to box it in a few times. It looked pretty mean. So I wanted to go grab it. What happened? How we got control of it was my Sergeant at the time ended up tasing it. Ooh, Jesus. We tased an emu Life it was gonna get hit by a car. So I mean well then we're trying to have it not good for somebody's windshield and Well, it was fine. We tased it. We had a rope we'd found so and it was down
Starting point is 00:57:37 We've got it around its neck and tied it to a fence Okay, who takes an emu Animal control doesn't take it. He made the site, he doesn't get it. We made a bunch of phone calls and we got somebody from the Phoenix Zoo to come out and put it in their van and drive it to the zoo. Interesting. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:58:01 Very interesting. Did you ever figure out where it came from or did I miss that part? Yeah, it had to be something on someone's farm that just wandered off or something right or right? It had to be because it like I said, it was on the edge it used to be a real rural part of the city and it's More suburban now, but there's some dotted farms in the area out there. We went around to everyone Block by block looking for anybody that had a farm with an emu missing never found one I think it lived its life out at the zoo. The funny thing is today that would be like, you know
Starting point is 00:58:31 You know every every town and fucking suburb has there like seven different Facebook groups towards that town So it would have been you guys could have solved it in like ten minutes But uh, maybe back back then 15 years ago. I don't well It might have yeah Facebook was just getting around back then, but yeah, that's a good- Yeah, it was around, I think it was more still like college kid- Yeah, I don't think groups, yeah, because I just, I think today specifically, I joined Facebook 17 years ago today, and that was like a big thing for me because I didn't,
Starting point is 00:59:00 I think it was, because you had to have a, yeah, you did have to have a college email for the first couple years to sign up, and then I think finally that because you had to have a yeah, you did have to have a college email for the first couple of years to sign up. And then I think like finally that went away and I was able to get on and seven and fuck whatever. Did you look look where it's at now? Whatever 17 years ago it was. Did you have to or sorry, like, did you get to go and knock on doors and ask if they're missing an email? Oh, yeah. That's hilarious. Excuse me. This is going to sound very strange, but are you missing an emu? But at least we're going to the farm properties and like, do they have, do they have any sort
Starting point is 00:59:34 of animals running around here? Are you missing an emu? I'm hoping there would be a picture of that out there somewhere. I can get a picture of you chasing down an emu. I've got one because it so happens my Sardinian right here. There was a picture. Yeah, she was riding along that day. So I've got one somewhere. I will find it Yeah, we need that for a story or a post next week. So get that over to us, please unpaid So did did everyone thinking you were abusing steroids when you first get into the police department?
Starting point is 01:00:06 I was hoping that would come up. Do you think that helped with your ability to catch the emo? Was it looking like you used steroids? Randomly selected? No, so yeah, I guess that was more of a bad segue into the did you get basically, quote unquote, randomly selected for a piss test because you were like, you know, quickly gained muscle from this crony kid that you started out being in the in the uh yeah i don't know i mean i haven't had one of those tests in a few years but there was a period when i did my you know my gym bro phase at the la fitness you know 10 years ago or whatever where i did gain a lot of size especially in the arms you know i was in doing curls all day and i had like three tests in one year so i don't know
Starting point is 01:00:45 i'm like obviously those don't those people don't know what somebody actually on gear would look like but yeah At a curiosity did the law enforcement's are they are you guys able to write off gym memberships? Or do you get better rates or anything like that? Or is it like something that like I'm just curious I just never cuz like physical fitness and being athletic would be something they would emphasize for you You would think so like them right now dollar Yeah, no, no, I don't think we have anything but we every station is equipped with a gym I used it for several years before I started I Started the home gym. So I mean you can go to any station. We have a bunch of them. They all have gyms and
Starting point is 01:01:23 You know barbells, you know enough plates and dumbbells and racks to get done what you need to get done. So access is provided. Nice. That's good. That's good stuff. I mean, well, you'll be able to get the silver sneakers here before too long too. No, you're not that old.
Starting point is 01:01:40 That was just a bad joke. Okay. That's okay. That's okay. There's another... Whatever. I'm trying to... It's like a three paragraph thing. I'm trying to like pick out
Starting point is 01:01:56 the next funny story because there's not a dash in between. I'm like, where does the next story end? Who wrote this thing? I think it was your wife. She did great. No, she didn't do bad or anything. It was just instead think it was your wife. She did great. No, it's not. She didn't do a bad or anything. It was just like, instead of it being like tab, tab, tab, it was just like big paragraph of like six funny stories that all embarrassed Toby.
Starting point is 01:02:13 Um, so that it's the good of it's the good ones. You want to get to, so the, the, the best one here was, uh, did you have a, a moment where, um, you know, you, you had a lady hit on you a little bit and you had to, uh, basically let her know that you were off the table? Was there a story there? I think that's got to be when we were down somewhere in the Caribbean. I don't remember if it was the Dominican or... We were at the wedding of my... it was either my brother-in-law or sister-in-law, whichever wedding they both had getaway destination weddings in that area. And we were at the bar, like at the hotel, I'm sitting by my father-in-law and
Starting point is 01:02:54 this lady comes up and sits on the other side of me. I assume this is what she's talking about. And she's starts like trying to chat me up and trying to get drinks. And my father-in-law is like watching this, like grinning. I'm kind of just uncomfortable you know. I bet. No I'm all right you know I'm good that's I don't remember how I resolved it or if I just walked away. The way the way so her notes were basically uh you were at a cigar bar, some woman hit on him. He's the complete opposite of a ladies man and didn't know how to handle it.
Starting point is 01:03:29 So apparently he slapped his hand on the table to display his wedding ring and announced in bold letters, I'm married. And she still laughs to this day trying to picture the whole thing. I need an adult. That's very true. I don't know how to handle it. That's great. Do you want to do FMK? Yeah, let's find one.
Starting point is 01:03:54 Let's da, da, da, da, da, da. OK. So Big Toe, we've got some special tips, special picked topics here just for you. I'll do a little FMK with it. So let's go Deadlift, Atlas Stones, Frame Carry. Man, that's hard. I guess that's the point, huh?
Starting point is 01:04:21 I mean, they're all three of my favorites. I would kill the Frame Carry because the dead lift and stones are probably my two favorite, and that's going to be a hard one. Well, one you get to do once really, really, really well, and the other one you get to do forever. Right, and that's the hard point. I would.
Starting point is 01:04:47 OK. Let's assume that I've got access to stones that I need and any number of stones. I'm going to marry the stones and I'll F the deadlift. Once he hits 600, you're F'd, deadlift. Seven. Seven. Once he hits 700, bleh. Seven, come on.
Starting point is 01:05:06 I passed six, but road to seven's going to be a little hard. We'll get there. All right. So you were born in Iowa. What brought you to Arizona? I went to ASU, Arizona State. My mom was already here. My parents, they divorced in the 80s.
Starting point is 01:05:23 So my mom already lived here. So I don't go to school at ASU. I'll move in with her so I don't have to pay dorms and stuff and that was in 2002 and I've stayed here ever since So that was um So you were how big of a story was Pat Tillman back then because he was like he was late 90s at ASU, right? But he was like he would have been in at ASU right but he was like he would have been in the military and probably getting killed right around that time when you were in school and having a statue and everything so what was that like I guess? I mean I don't remember
Starting point is 01:05:56 specifically I mean it was I mean that was a big deal nationally yeah yeah yeah I just didn't know if it was like it I think it was I know he joined up before I moved out here and that was a big deal because he had because he retired from the NFL. He was like three or four years in the league. Right. And he was like up for a big contract and he was like he had a I'm good. I think it was three million dollar contract on the table and he's like no I'm gonna go join the army here. And that was a big deal. That was before I moved out here, I remember that. So yeah, but that was probably like, oh one,
Starting point is 01:06:31 maybe that was right after 9-11, to be honest with you. I think it was, I think that's what motivated him and his brother for sure. So, oh sorry, if you didn't have any, I guess my time, I was a little bit off on the time because he would have already been gone by the time you got there. So, not as relevant, I suppose. I mean obviously it
Starting point is 01:06:47 was still a big deal there's a they do Pat's run out here in Tempe every year it's a big marathon or half marathon type maybe it's like 10k I don't know some distance that everybody goes out and runs for a charity event. So you only run if there's EMUs involved right yes and these days i'm not gonna go run a 5k or 3k or one k or any of that. No we ain't running. Okay. I'm still looking for unpaid underrated stuff here you're good. I mean so when you're just hanging out in the pro you know in, in the patrol car waiting for something to do there, are you just banging
Starting point is 01:07:26 away to Nickelback, right? Yeah. Yeah, I've actually got Nickelback is my only artist. So I just pretend that that's not the case. So you you really don't like Nickelback? That's so you're not just the stereo like, you know, a lot of everyone says they don't like Nickelback, but then they still listen to like six of their songs on their playlist sometimes where you just you just don't don't I don't And I I mean a lot of the resurgence of some of these bands, you know, like say Creed. I'm like I can get on board
Starting point is 01:07:52 Yeah, that's I like that Nickelback I'm like no they still suck And they obviously Found a format that worked for them It was commercially successful and they're like, hey, let's run with this. And they basically just did the same song so many times, different versions of the same song, I don't know. In the nineties, when I was in high school,
Starting point is 01:08:13 they actually, early on, I'd have to look it up, the names, but like the first album was like really good. But whenever they- The Leader of Men. I want to say it was Leader of Men. Yes. No, that's correct. I'm like, I was digging that.
Starting point is 01:08:28 But when they found that commercial sound, they're like, saw dollar signs and off they went, which is good for them. But I didn't really care for this style after that. Yeah. When Leader of Men came out, I was, I got onto them. And I was just like, you guys got to listen to this. And everybody was like, buddy, this sucks. And then that other, it was that stupid, How You Remind Me song. That was that song. Yeah,
Starting point is 01:08:49 it was that song came out that everybody was like, have you heard this band? And I was like, yeah, when they were good. I don't know, I still think that the most recent album, they did that crap again, where they had the nostalgic like, you remember when we were in high school song, but then they have like some really heavy metal like Different stuff right they also did a song for dying bag after he died. That's called a Think bullet with your name or something And it's it's a pretty like it's because dying bag Darrell played the backup on it. I think it is heavy So I secretly think that they're heavy metal fans.
Starting point is 01:09:27 But commercially, the other crap sells more, so they do more of that. Yes. Yeah. That's my hot take on Nickelback. I agree. 100%. Give me one of those heavy songs and I'm down. Play that ballad garbage and I'm turning it off in seconds
Starting point is 01:09:45 So Toby is your dislike for campaign because you live in one of the hottest states in the world Or is this something from your childhood where you got drug along to camping that you didn't want to go do? I like, you know AC and Wi-Fi and stuff like that, but Yeah, I don't know I mean I went on plenty of camping trips with my dad when I was a kid and fishing and it wasn't that bad, but I don't have any desire to go lay on the ground
Starting point is 01:10:12 in a tent. I feel like there's gonna be bugs climbing in. I mean, if I'm gonna go camping, I want it to be the glamping. I don't know, I'm just, I at least need like a really nice motor home, which we don't have or, you know, we have these things called hotels that are like really comfortable Speaking of Eric so someone that's in Arizona and it's you know, just hotter and shit all year long
Starting point is 01:10:37 How do you actually think you're does your eight? How many months on average do you is your air conditioner running? Like nine months eight months eleven? Yeah, I just you said your house is basically 80 right now. I'd be like I wouldn't sleep in an 80 degree house Well, it's not in the house. Oh the garage is 80. Okay, the garage is the house is like 72 I don't know. Yeah, that's that's that's bearable. The garage just retains the heat Um, I was probably about two weeks ago when I shut off the AC. That's crazy. You made it to November running the AC. Oh yeah, I mean we were still in the 90s outside so we still needed the AC. No, no, I fully get it. Yeah, yeah. I'm used to a lot of the
Starting point is 01:11:16 like some of the places I go to work there's people that will just you know they don't pay for their own utilities so they're just running the fucking AC. Like there's people running the AC this week and I'm just like you know, they don't pay for their own utilities. So they're just running the fucking AC. Like there's people running the AC this week. And I'm just like, you just open a fucking window. It's fucking 39 degrees. You don't need your fucking air conditioner on. And it just baffling me. People that don't have to pay for shit,
Starting point is 01:11:34 the way they take advantage of like free shit like that just baffles me. It's just like, why'd the fucking air conditioner condenser kick on and I'm wearing a fucking hoodie and gloves, like what the fuck? Like are you yeah so yeah I did turn off the fan here because I have it set for sleeping at night and then I was like I'm just gonna start opening a window I don't want to I prefer this like this cold
Starting point is 01:11:56 right and like when it's between like 10 degrees Celsius which I don't know what it is in freedom units um I prefer this so what's bigger Arizona or New York? Oh, Arizona. By far. I don't know. It's by far. I'm going to ask that every week from every state. That's fine. Well, what's funny, it's literally, we had a big corporate meeting this week and like
Starting point is 01:12:23 literally the CEO of the company came in and he was making a point to like like say how big New York is compared to Connecticut Rhode Island and Massachusetts where our other like branches are at and because in comparison to those states. Yes, we like You know fucking art are 30 X the size of these other states. So in comparison to my region, I still stand by. I live in a large state in comparison to the other states around me. But that's all good.
Starting point is 01:12:54 It is funny when people pick on me because I make it easier. I'm not even taking on you anymore. I'm just bringing up the stupid. All I can say right now is we'll get a little more of this in a little bit, so. Well, then I better, I gotta try to find a couple more for you then I guess. Let's see, now that, well now I don't want to pick on dots too much so. Why not? So you did a submission for the cartwheel contest.
Starting point is 01:13:24 When's the last time you did a you did a submission for the for the cartwheel contest. When's the last time when the last time you did a cartwheel? I it's probably been a decade since I attempted one. So and kind of how that happened is I went out in the backyard and I was just trying them. Not very good. And my older daughter walked out and she says, Dad, what are you doing? I said, I'm trying to do a cartwheel. And she's like, what? She said, yeah. Why?
Starting point is 01:13:49 She's again, she's like, you are not. I said, yes, I am. Do you want to do some with me? So they did them. I tried to do them. And after about five or six tries, I'm like, that good as this gonna get I can't believe the people just went out and tried cartwheels because of us
Starting point is 01:14:14 Forty something year old men doing cartwheels around their yards And you know what the best part is like I think people started doing submissions before I even said what the prize was They were just so there wasn't about the prize. Yeah, I told big Jess this I said, it's not a it's not about the prize was. They were just... so it wasn't about the prize. Yeah, I told Big Jess this. I said it's not about the prize, it's about the friends we made along the way. Exactly. Absolutely. I didn't need a prize. I was like, yeah, I'll go do one. I love that. That's so fun. Do you want to do Unpaid and Underrated, friend? Yeah, let's move in there. So Big Toby, for anyone listening listening any a big Toby's friends and family tuning in for the first time We have this game. We like to play relatively new. It's called unpaid or underrated So similar to some other people's games called overrated underrated, you know, we got a little twist on that
Starting point is 01:14:55 So anything that you're not a huge fan of we'll go ahead and call that unpaid He was no one wants to be unpaid and anything you kind of like go and call it an underrated So we got a few here hand selected for big Toby Toby I'm gonna kick it off let's go with chicken bakes unpaid or underrated chicken bakes do I get my druthers on this mandatory druthers yes sir you know they honestly I have never had a chicken bag and we go to Costco every week I'm not a fan of Caesar dressing So I'm afraid to try one I know big Jeff said it's not that strong So what maybe one of these days I need to buy one and just eat it
Starting point is 01:15:39 You know the macros and all that I'm still I'm gonna have to go underrated Because I'm here for the macros. I'm here for all the jokes and the memes. Okay I would I would kind of say it's like the Arnold. Try it once, might not be for you, don't go again. I don't know it seems to be really popular. I don't love chicken bakes but I'll eat one every now and then. But I do say try it once because then you'll just be more knowledgeable about it. But if you don't blow up your macros and you happen to then eat salad for the next three days,
Starting point is 01:16:09 if you track that hard work. But- We talked about it last time we were there. I told my wife, you like Caesar dressing, let's order one. Let me take a couple of bites. And then if it's just too much for me, I'll just give it to you. There you go.
Starting point is 01:16:22 I mean, they're literally like $4. So it takes 30 seconds. Well, honestly, sometimes the fucking kiosk I'll just give it to you. There you go. I mean, they're literally like four dollars. So yeah, I did in six thirty seconds Well, honestly, sometimes the fucking kiosk to get the food is longer than the fucking kiosk to check out and shit And it's like damn this is not what I want to do. So can I gotta play that one by ear? Uh, alright number two unpaid or underrated golf I'm gonna go unpaid on that one.
Starting point is 01:16:47 I am a big fan. I played a lot of golf. I played high school golf. You know, I thought about playing college golf probably wasn't quite good enough. And that's honestly what I wanted to do with my free time as I as I got older. And it's super expensive. It's super time consuming. And I just can't justify spending six hours of a Saturday
Starting point is 01:17:14 spending a bunch of money to go play poorly and not be around my family. I just had to take another direction. And fortunately, I came across strength sports. And it's awesome because I can just step out in the garage. The family's all here, they can come out if they want to. And it doesn't take me six hours. I probably spent a lot of money though.
Starting point is 01:17:34 Yeah, yeah, we didn't I was gonna contradict you there and be like, well, when you said you don't spend you know, you golf so expensive. I'm like, I mean, you can probably buy new golf clubs every couple years. And you know, a well stocked powerlifting strongman gym might might still edge that out on price. Yeah, I've spent a lot on equipment, which technically, you know, because I have it, I could sell it and get something back. I'm not planning to but it's more the the actual fees to play you. It's it's very expensive, you know, you're paying $100 and $150 to go out for one round of golf.
Starting point is 01:18:08 It's an expensive, more boring walk in the park. Yeah, so that used to be my main hobby. And it's kind of fallen off. I don't think I've played in the last three years since I started the gym. All right, let's see. Oh, I did have one follow up to that. I assume it was your wife, but it could have someone else someone had put Toby used to golf a lot
Starting point is 01:18:27 But I'm pretty sure he's too broad to swing a club now. So I think I got a kick out of that Yeah, it would definitely I need to go to the range and just see what it feels like cuz it's Going to feel different. I can tell you that All right, so I might do two more, I might do one more. I'll see how this one goes. All right. So what's the name of your log again? It's a Pitbull, right?
Starting point is 01:18:50 Yeah, I got a Pitbull. So unpaid or underrated Pitbull logs? Absolutely underrated because the options out there for logs, you've got the good ones, you know, Bartos, Rogue. Ordering those new are Or more or more with shipping and stuff. I put the I put the rogue 12 inch in the cart one day You know and see check shipping. I think it was like 1300 bucks to get it to me
Starting point is 01:19:17 So if you're leaving out, you know those top end logs Your other options, you know, you got the Titan ones out there that will bend and break if you drop them wrong. There's, you know, some other random things you can find out there, but the Pit Bull, if you can find one, is the best bang for your buck because you can find them for three, four hundred bucks. They have a couple different versions. But if you can find one of those on the market, I would grab it and they're not too heavy. That you can't start it's not like a 200 pound empty log where you I mean you can warm up with it. Mine's
Starting point is 01:19:53 105. So you can you can start out there. Sure. I'm not sure if you've heard the news or not. I did pick one up. It's it's sitting at Kevin's basement garage or sitting in Kevin's basement gym. And I'm optimistic we'll pick it up when I go to the Arnold if I go to the Arnold if not, I have to literally just drive to Cleveland one Saturday and just fucking burn nine hours of my day. But, you know, paid Kevin some money to go pick it up for me. He graciously accepted and
Starting point is 01:20:18 you know, I think I so I ended up getting it for 175 and I threw Kevin a hundo. So I'm into it 275 plus getting it at some point so I thought that was fair. I would have paid 350 maybe for it if it was in my backyard and I just had to go pick it up so that was a decent price for me. Yeah is it the solid pin or the hollow pin? It's the 85 pound one so but for me that's fine I'd rather have the 85 pound starting weight I guess because then if I have some you know friends that really don't I mean it's the same as my Titan which that I feel like I don't mind taking an 85 pound log for three or four reps and then throwing plates on and going up from there so the 110 would have been fine but anything above 110 I think would have been shitty for me. The 85s are still very
Starting point is 01:20:59 solid but they were they were used Arizona Strongest Man a couple weeks ago because the gym has two of those so he won identical logs and You know the super heavyweights were repping out, you know 285 or whatever and those logs weren't given into that mine has one little bend in one of the The the cutouts I guess like on one side one of the flat sides of the cutouts. It's just kind of indented a little bit So I'm when I I mean if Kevin feels the urge and wants to pound it out with a hammer if can if not I'll do it in a couple we know when I get it in a few months I might even try doing a little little bottle jack with like a two by four on one side and trying to just like press it back out but I don't think it's going to affect anything. Somebody's got to pound your there. And here we thought you were shy, Toby. All right. Uh, I'll, I'll do one more,
Starting point is 01:21:51 uh, probably, uh, unpaid or underrated rep fitness. Uh, Oh, unpaid. Yeah. I don't like how rep kind of positions themselves as we're this. Yeah, it's an American company. They're still, they're still just like Titan. They're trying to put lipstick on a Titan right there. You know, look cooler. They have a better image. But I'm like, if you're looking for a budget product,
Starting point is 01:22:18 just buy the budget product, just buy Titan. And I know reps looks all cool. I I just if you want something that's actually American made just then just buy the rogue. Yeah, I can agree with a lot of that. Yeah. So many people are on board with Titan, just because they're making money off the affiliates and shit and Titan does give a lot Titan or sorry, rep rep is got a lot more home gym stuff and they're innovating and whatnot,
Starting point is 01:22:45 but it's still imported shit. I don't know. Yeah, stop calling it Colorado this and Colorado that and Mountain this and Mountain that. You're fucking, you have a couple CEOs. You have the owner that lives in Colorado. Everything else is in California now and you import it all from China.
Starting point is 01:23:00 So still great equipment, I guess. It's probably a little bit better than Titan, but it shouldn't cost as much as Rogue. equipment, I guess it's probably a little bit better than Titan, but like, it shouldn't cost as much as rogue. Well, that yeah, that's, that's my point exactly. And I would actually put kind of bells of steel in that same. I mean, they're importing all their stuff from China, but you know, it's it's not made in Canada. It's made in China. So yeah, my
Starting point is 01:23:20 that's my thing. If you're looking to save money on a product, just buy the Titan one and call it what it is. I don't even think Bells of Steel advertises as Canadian anymore. Probably not. I mean, I don't think they're claiming to be Canadian made or anything. I know it's a Canadian company. All right. Unpaid or underrated? Salad dressings. I think we touched on this with the Caesar. We did.
Starting point is 01:23:49 Yeah, I'm glad you didn't elaborate too much then. Completely unpaid. I don't like dressings. This is probably, I know this might sound weird. I don't like most condiments. I don't eat ranch. I don't eat ketchup, mayo. Just about any condiment or dressing does not appeal to me. Weird. Yeah, I like barbecue sauce. Because I think more about that. And I'm just like, I don't put
Starting point is 01:24:18 ketchup on anything. If I can avoid mayonnaise, I do mustard, I'm all in on. So I kind of see where you're coming from on that one. But also, if the wife makes a salad, I ain't just eating roughage. I'm going to put some balsamic oil on there, right? If I eat a salad, I'll just eat it with nothing on there. That's wild. I was going to follow up with that.
Starting point is 01:24:40 When you said you like barbecue, but barbecue sauce too, do you eat barbecue sauce a lot? Or do you just, if you're forced to have a sauce it's a barbecue or do you have like a good sugar-free barbecue that you eat every day with chicken or something? No no just once in a while but like if we're at a restaurant if we're at a restaurant or something I'm gonna if there's a burger with barbecue sauce or something I'm gonna order that every time over the one that you know you know, with ketchup or. Okay. Okay.
Starting point is 01:25:05 I know you can ask for it a certain way, but if you got like a barbecue bacon burger, I'm like, I'm going to go that. You don't seem like a guy that would ask to like substitute stuff on a sandwich at a restaurant. Could Toby? I could, I could ask my wife to do it. You are that, you are that meme. That's correct. I'd be like, I don't want to ask for it. This is the way they make it.
Starting point is 01:25:27 It's like, why is my steak honey? Honey, my steak's well done. And she's like, I ordered raw. Like, I guess I'm eating it. Yes, I would do that. I love it. Sorry to interrupt there, Joey. No, it's okay.
Starting point is 01:25:39 Because I would just eat it and then afterwards tell them they screwed it up. That is exactly how I do it and I know it's not well because I don't want them to think like I want it remade like I'm not I'll just say that like they'll come at the end and go how was everything and I'll go well I did order like medium and you brought me well done and like but you ate it and I was like well yeah because I'm not here to cause any problems just don't fuck it up next time. Well, the worst is when they do a recook, but then like, they take your, they just, and it's like,
Starting point is 01:26:11 then you have nothing to eat. Then you got to watch your spouse eat for 10 minutes. And then you, then you get another poorly cooked steak. And then like, if they just took the piece of meat and they left you with cold fries, and then they're like, oh, you want me to eat my new steak with my cold fries? Or like, you can't, you can't spend the extra 97 fucking seconds and cents to give me a fresh side When you fucked up the the the entree to begin with so
Starting point is 01:26:33 All right unpaid or underrated broccoli oh Any vegetable is gonna be unpaid Okay, yeah, no broccoli is you know it's the typical Okay. Yeah, no. Broccoli is, you know, it's the typical meal prep vegetable, chicken, rice and broccoli. You know that I can't stand it. I don't want it near me. I don't want to smell it.
Starting point is 01:26:53 I, I often use a spinach because it doesn't have much of a taste. So I'll get that for my vegetables. So I can say something green, uh, yeah broccoli is completely unpaid I know where this story's coming from. I think it had to be my wife We're having thanksgiving meal at a friend's house. This was like 10 years ago, maybe 12 and A piece of broccoli because she had handed me her plate. She was like didn't want the roll that was on there I was like, yeah, I'll eat that bread roll
Starting point is 01:27:24 like didn't want the roll that was on there. I was like, yeah, I'll eat that bread roll. And a little, little tiny like, you know, molecule of broccoli was on the bite I took. And I was like spitting it out because I could taste it. That would ruin a roll. Like, for sure. But it was so small. It was like microscopic. And she's like, I could taste it. You could. I think you could. I'm going to take your side on that one. I think you've noticed for sure. Yeah. It's not like if it was like a piece of lettuce, you'd be like, I guess that sucked. Broccoli is a pretty distinct flavor. I get that. Especially when you don't like it. Yeah. Yep. When we cook broccoli, like it, the house fucking stinks for like two hours. Exactly. Smells like feet for hours. Yeah. Yeah. However, I like broccoli. I'll steam broccoli with salt and pepper. So like broccoli a lot. But you guys remember back in the day when like cheese whiz was like ever like advertising the thing to put on broccoli.
Starting point is 01:28:15 How fucking gross would that be? Is that can you? I mean, I'm sure you can, but like I don't think I've seen cheese whiz or bought it in like ever in my life. I think it was just something I remember seeing in movies and like maybe maybe in the early 90s or like fucking the cheese whiz and crackers but like people do that. Is that going to think people couldn't even tell you buy an aerosol fucking cheese if they can't be right. I was I. Yeah same as 90s when I was a kid you know people commonly had it around with
Starting point is 01:28:43 crackers but I'd have to search and they'd probably sell it, I guess. I don't know. I can't imagine it just went away, but I actually had this thought last week. I was just like, I wonder if while I'm at the grocery store, I could find cheese whiz. And I ended up not following through with it. There's kids running around. I'm time to go searching for something I don't want to buy. All right. Last one. And you can decide to answer this or not. Unpaid or underrated Narcan kits. They're unpaid for us. This had to have been from Derek, a firefighter.
Starting point is 01:29:20 They always joke that the police either Narcan the diabetic, or that we don you know that the police either, you know, Narcan the diabetic or That we don't we don't know what we were doing and we were basically give we were basically given the Narcan Uh 20 minute training said go for us Um, so we're out there running around administering drugs. Honestly, we don't do it that much But the joke is that we do it wrong. Uh, so I always just wait for the firefighters to show up. They know to do it, right? I don't want to please help if I can see that. All right. I think you passed on paid underrated. Good work All right, we can air this so I can get my silly point. Yeah, sure. You got it Now do you have anything for us? I said I think you said you had some games. Yeah, I got a couple of quick
Starting point is 01:30:05 Games or segments for each of you. These are spins on old Mastanami segments. Oh Like that. Yeah, so I'm gonna go with Keith first here. Let's do it. This is a playoff of the old segment You know what weighs more? But I'm gonna for Keith it's gonna be what's bigger, State of New York edition. This is why I was trying not to get you to bro with this earlier. Oh, damn it. I should study that. I'll give you the baseline to start off.
Starting point is 01:30:34 The State of New York is 54.5 thousand square miles. If that helps you, I don't know. So the first one will stay in the United States what's bigger New York or Alabama hmm so like I'm trying to there's a lot of big colleges in Alabama it's like I'm trying to think of like SEC teams and stuff so like but it's like land area no I know but it's like so I think it's longer but it's not as girthy It's not as left and right. So I will go I'll say New York's bigger Yeah, you are right Alabama Alabama's 52.4. So they're very close. It is close. Yeah. Yeah, New York edges them out
Starting point is 01:31:19 Edging on all right. Now we're gonna go outside the United States. How about Romania All right now we're gonna go outside the United States how about Romania New York or Romania. I don't even know to get big David on the horn. I don't know anything about Yeah, like the whole thing about like those like aren't like I in my mind is like all these little countries are like the size Of our states ish in some cases kind of a that's kind of why this is happening no no no I'm gonna go to New York but I bet it I bet Romania is like like 1% bigger or something but I'm gonna go to New York actually Romania is a fair amount larger 92,000 square miles
Starting point is 01:32:01 oh jeez close to double I couldn't point it out on a map, though. I don't know where that is in Europe. I'm sure it's in, I think it's in, I hope it's in Europe. I don't know. Yeah, Eastern. On the continent of Europe. All right, this next one, I think you'll know what it's at. The Mediterranean country of Greece.
Starting point is 01:32:19 Hmm. Greece is... I am... I'm not big geography over here, so... Big maps? I'm just gonna... I mean, I can't say... We know how big New York is.
Starting point is 01:32:33 We heard all about that, so... Yeah, when New York is bigger than... I mean, New York obviously is bigger. I know. That's the answer. That has to be my answer, right? I have to stand by my guns? It is bigger than Greece, but that is actually really close.
Starting point is 01:32:46 50.1 thousand square miles. Nice. All right, last one. How about South America? Uruguay. I have no clue. It's near Paraguay. That helped.
Starting point is 01:33:01 Well, obviously, yeah. I mean, New York is bigger than all. No, Uruguay, 68,000 square miles. I love it. I don't even think it is near Uruguay. I actually don't know that. I would have to look that up. All right.
Starting point is 01:33:18 That was a lot of fun. Well done. Yep. That was good, Toby. All right. On the style of the old segment supplements real or fake Okay, gonna be metal bands real or fake classic
Starting point is 01:33:33 Megadeth no, just kidding. All right. I know that one. Yeah Existential dread real it is real They had like two monthly listeners on Spotify. I might have been one of them. I'm pretty sure they're in one of my playlists. I think that's the one that had like two, but I don't know. How about this one? The crippling dread. Fake.
Starting point is 01:34:02 Yeah, it is fake. If you had separated those two, that might have been harder on me. Fake. Yeah, it is fake. If you had separated those two, that might have been harder on me. Maybe. Yeah, I should have done that. I don't know. I googled all these names and I made up a couple fake ones. And then I googled the fake ones.
Starting point is 01:34:16 I checked Spotify. All right. How about Goblin vomit? Fake. Ah, that is fake. Yeah. I found a lot of the goblin style music, but not goblin vomit.
Starting point is 01:34:32 No, I definitely would have... I definitely would have... that one I had to think about. How about artery eruption? Real. Yeah, he nailed it. It's just because I just listened to random playlists a lot. I'll just be like, find me metal playlists and I'll just listen to it.
Starting point is 01:34:53 I was going through Spotify, like finding ones that had very low listenership. All right. I did it. Keith, I was way better at that game than you were. 100%. I did. I did. Okay., I was way better at that game than you were. 100%. I did OK. I probably averaged 69% there. So Toby, I got one more question for you.
Starting point is 01:35:10 So what do you got? All right, so it's basically, what? OK, so tomorrow you can go out to the garage and deadlift, raw, from the floor, regular power bar, 775 pounds. Easily, RP eight and a half. But you have to, your eyes aren't blue anymore. You taking that deal? Man, yeah, I cannot take that deal.
Starting point is 01:35:41 Because that's the only signature feature that I've ever had in my life and the only comment I ever get. So I'm gonna have to stick with that. Okay. I figured if I went 800 you might have taken it. So that's why I went 775. So if I... So okay. So is there a number though? Like a thousand pounds and you can retire tomorrow because you're the strongest man on earth, but you can't have blue eyes Well, I was gonna say I think that thousand would be the number because that okay Well, you wouldn't be the strong you'd be the strongest to There's not a there's not a what are you to 220 240? I'm like 245. Yeah, there's there's there anybody 245 pulling a thousand
Starting point is 01:36:18 No, I mean, yes, I guess there are there's some power lifters and shit, but It's rare. It's rare air. air yeah it's not I think it would be pretty rare to find anybody at that weight that did it conventional Danny Grisby did Danny Grisby did it did he was he 242 or is he he bounced between 242 and 275 I think a couple times but I'm yeah I'm 275 when he hit the bigger ones I would guess yeah okay so a thousand pounds to get rid of the blue eyes we'll have to keep that in mind. And that was, I did, I, there was a few things about blue eyes.
Starting point is 01:36:49 I thought we were going to hit it and unpaid and we didn't. So I wanted to at least a lot of people, you know, that is the, the, the Toby comments is the blue eyes. It's kind of your signature. So I wanted to make sure we wouldn't. That's my signature. I get, that's gotta be a big price. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:37:01 I didn't want to leave the episode without hit touching base on that. I think it would have been funnier if we had, uh, just never bring it up once. Like that would have been hilarious. It's still, I'm glad you did. Right. Cause it is the thing we talk about most in the discord. But I think if we had just forgot and then like after this airs, people are like, you seriously didn't bring that up.
Starting point is 01:37:18 Like that would have been great. Oh, I do have, you'll get a kick. So it, it, it'll already, it will, it will already have happened already have happened, but in case you don't listen to Thanksgiving episode for some reason or miss it Nate copy and pasted the show notes from like I guess episode one or something instead of cuz like I I have a just My own document that I copy and the show notes from and then I just you know Just like the blank template and that we then we add to and Nate didn't have access to that So he copied like one from a year and a half ago that still had a sorry, we missed you, Matt, et cetera. And then he said it last night and didn't really like
Starting point is 01:37:52 didn't really catch because because I saw it on the Google Doc and I was like, I hope he doesn't say that he knows that we don't that we don't do that anymore. Right. And then like during the outro, he said it. And then like, I think he like halfway through his sentence, he was kind of like, well, wait, how do I how do I I don't know? I don't know if he remember we had him on the get but it was just funny I was laughing my ass off when that was going on So basically pay attention to that when the episode comes out and anyone listening to this Hope you enjoyed last week's episode. That was let me be our fourth or fifth kind of non-guess just
Starting point is 01:38:22 Different topic, you know thing I thought it was a blast we did the the Thanksgiving roundtable ranking the food I'm trying to try to get Stephanie to actually listen to it I'm gonna basically we have a about an hour commute to and from total to get to her parents and back Thanksgiving I'm gonna at least put it on during the car for that ride and hopefully she gets to listen to some of it and I think it was a great episode and it's fun doing those every now and then.
