Hello, fellow gamers, welcome to the video gamers podcast.
I know we all have them.
Those video games sitting quietly in our backlog waiting for their turn.
The ones we bought on sale downloaded with excitement or swore we'd start right after this next one.
But somehow the list just keeps growing.
Today we will cover the top backlog games that we will absolutely.
obviously totally start playing soon.
But first, some introductions are in order.
I am your host today, Ryan, and joining me,
a man whose backlog is greater than the number of people who are in love with his mom.
It's ace.
That's a lot of people.
My backlog is bad.
I think I've told you how much, like, how many games I have in my
Steam library and it's kind of absurd.
It's, it's, uh, more than triple days.
It's, it starts with a three, right?
No, it's up to like 448 now.
Oh my gosh.
It starts with a four.
Brother.
Brother.
Oh my goodness.
Yeah.
I have played like more than half of them at least.
So there's that.
That's good.
No, that's good.
This one was actually tough for me.
I am not one to buy games when I'm not going to play them.
Occasionally, if I see a sale,
I'll pick something up.
But normally it's, if I like it, I'm going to buy it and then I'm going to go play it.
So I don't have a huge backlog, but I definitely have a good list of games for this episode today.
That's fair.
You and Josh are very similar.
You don't buy games unless you're going to actively, like, start them.
Yeah, my, I mean, my library in Steam is probably like 70 or something.
Like, it's not, I mean, which is, I mean, that's a lot of game.
That's a lot of money.
But I definitely don't have a four and first.
of that number.
You don't have 470 games.
No.
Okay.
All right.
Hold on.
I'm 100.
I thought, what?
You have 110 years.
You looked at mine?
Yeah.
Okay.
Yeah.
All right.
So I'm triple digits.
I'm in.
Man, I'm a little high, huh?
Only quadruple.
Only quadruple you got, you know?
Sweet.
Well, uh, I'm excited.
As you can tell, Joshy Pooh is not here today.
He decided to go on vacation and just leave us high and dry with no, you know, no warning, no, no, uh, knowledge that he was leaving. I'm totally obviously kidding.
Um, I was, I was late because I had work, uh, you know, again, you know, there it is. Uh, but, uh, so, so Josh said, you know what, you guys can handle it here. So here we are.
Ace and I are going to take this one, uh, by the helm. And we're going to do back.
log games. We're going to cover what games we have not played, but we really, really want to,
and we're going to address them at some point soon, hopefully. We won't keep telling ourselves
we're going to address them. I think that's the key point. That's all you, we just got to believe it.
You got to believe it. Exactly. Exactly. We just got to believe in it and it'll come true,
at least at some point, maybe in the summer when it dies down a hair, but we've been having too many,
too many hot games.
His last couple years have been really, really good.
Oh, dude, this last month
alone kicked our butts, so much so
we had to literally split up the workload.
We did.
We did a triple deep dive.
The first ever in video gamers podcast
history, a triple deep dive.
But I think it went well.
It was unique and it was cool.
But that's kind of the area we're at now
where we have to do three games at once
because there's so many.
Yeah, gaming's a good place, man.
Love it.
All right, cool.
Well, Ace, do you want to start us off with your first backlog game, brother?
I will start us off with the one you found the most egregious that I have not played,
and that's Hogwarts Legacy.
I have not found...
I find that wildly egregious.
You find that wildly egregious that I have not started Hogwarts Legacy,
despite getting it for free on Epic Game Store.
So now, I think you've talked about it a lot, like on the pod and stuff.
you grew up very religious family.
You weren't allowed to play this game.
So you weren't allowed to Harry Potter, Wizardry.
Is it like, do you feel a little bad if you were to play it?
Like, you feel like this is naughty?
I think it does, like, still have that little sting in it.
It's like, you are doing something I'm not supposed to.
Yeah.
But then again, like, I play other things.
I've played worse at this point.
Well, yeah, we've been dismembering people in Outlast trials.
I said, I played Outlast trials.
I'm pretty sure that, that is.
isn't in the good book.
Yeah, Harvard's legacy is, is not as bad.
But that, I mean, what a game.
That is, I know that's in a lot of people's backlog.
And I know that there's, there's, there is, uh, a lot of people who have bought it and bought
it on sale and, uh, haven't played it for whatever reason.
It is, it is one that I highly recommend.
It, even if you haven't, uh, experienced the story of, of Harry Potter in that world,
this game is just genuinely a really good game.
And then even more so, if you have,
experienced it.
Like, it's, it's beautiful.
The setting, the castle, like Hogwarts, Hogsmead, all of the stuff.
They did such a good job in creating a world.
And like, man, I'm so, I'm like, I can't wait for the day that you play it.
And then you're like, whoa, you guys are right.
Like, this is amazing.
I mean, I'm going to have to play it soon because they're already talking about
the sequel is going to have multiplayer and quidditch built in.
It's like, okay.
Oh.
Okay.
I will say, by the way, like, that's cool.
And flying the broom in this game, you can.
can fly the brooms, you can fly different other creatures and stuff. But, but Quidditch,
what a stupid game. Like, to where you can have all of these points and then you just go
catch the snitch and it's 150 points in it, and it just, yeah, it just negates everything. Like,
you have to be up by 160 points to win if somebody catches a snitch because that ends the game,
you know, so. You don't have to be the best on the team. You just got to be better than their
seeker, I guess.
Yeah, exactly.
Like, exactly.
But that is cool thinking of, uh, of, you know, upcoming, uh, additions to it and what
they can do.
But that's, that's a really good backlog game.
I'm sure there's a lot of people that have it.
Um, you know, just, I'm sure there's a few people like me.
What about you?
What are you going to start us off with?
What is in the top of your backlog?
Um, so I'm going to go with one.
This one is one that Josh has mentioned a ton.
as a really underrated game
and when I was doing research about it
just looking up for this episode
a lot of other people had said
in kind
is the Guardians of the Galaxy game
Yeah, yeah, yeah
A lot of people have said
it's a really genuinely
just a solid game
It's not, you know,
next level or top tier
but it's just a really, really good game
I actually own it
I got my son,
I gave him my old Xbox
and we got him a bunch of games
and we have physical
copies of them and
I just haven't had a chance to get around
to it yet. It's just one of those that
it's sitting there and I just need
to start it because I know myself
and when I start a game I usually finish it
I usually want to just see it all the way
through. I just know that
I don't always have all the time to do
that with all the games we have to play.
And that one's like a really long
story game too. It's like
almost like a tell tell style game.
I think it is. I think it's
I think it's decently long but I think it's
It's got a lot of good.
Everyone who plays it says it's worth it,
but it's definitely one of those games.
I feel like it goes under the radar.
Yeah, I got that one for free on Epic as well.
I might as well go in my back log as well.
There you go.
Yeah.
I mean, and I got it for cheap, like when I bought a hard,
hard copy of it.
And, um,
but everything I've looked at and everything I've seen online when you research it,
everyone says like,
this is so underrated.
You know,
I know,
I know I talk about overrated games a lot.
Overrated.
But this is one of those.
I think that a lot of people, you know, say it's underrated and Josh talks about how amazing
it is. And, and I know I trust his game takes because he doesn't stick around if it's not good.
No, especially if it's not a gameplay heavy style game. He does not stick around.
Do you think it would have been more mainstream if they'd gone with the MCU versions of the characters?
Oh, I don't know. Dude, comic book and, like, movie fans like that are so, so fickle.
You never know.
Guardians was very big around the time this game came out,
and people were very disappointed.
It was not Chris Pratt as Starlo.
Yeah.
People get so lame.
Like, who cares?
Like, obviously it'd be cool or whatever,
but who cares, man?
You know, whatever.
But yeah, so Guardians of the Galaxy.
That's my first pick.
All right.
My second here,
and this is,
they're going to hear like a gasp from our audience
from across the multiverse here.
Halo the Master Chief Collection has been in
my backlog for years.
Years.
Yeah, I know.
What was that?
That was a Gasp.
That was a Mickey Mouse.
What are you going to have to play Halo?
What are you talking about there?
Even I played Halo.
I'm trying to play the next door right now.
Josh has gone so we can just Mickey Mouse all day now.
Oh, yeah.
We can totally just rat voice the entire.
He can't say nothing about us.
This Josh guy won't let me buy the podcast.
but yeah oh man
halo's like when everyone always talks about
it's when I totally missed the train on
because I was a you know
I had it was a Nintendo kid when I lived with my parents
you were a little younger too
yeah and when I moved out
I didn't get an Xbox I got a PlayStation
so I just didn't have access to Halo
then I built my PC
bought the Master Chief Collection
and joined a gaming podcast
that gives me zero time to play games
Oh man.
Yeah, so you were, I think you said you were born in 2000, right?
Yeah, yeah, 2000.
Yeah, so Halo Combat Evolved.
The first Halo came out in 01.
Oh, wow.
Yeah, I was a little young to be playing Halo.
Two was in 2004.
Three was in 07.
So you were seven years old when three came out, which is arguably my favorite.
Halo 3, I think, is the accumulation of everything.
And then I think it was fantastic.
It was when they just made everything the best.
They dialed it in all the way.
But yeah, man.
So, like, I don't, I don't fault you for not playing that, you know, iteration like that early.
Oh, yeah, yeah.
But you're missing out, dude.
I tell you, man.
I 100% know I am, too.
I know I am.
It's just like those things.
Yeah.
No, of course.
And going back to an old, old game like that.
And you know it's a classic and you know it's something that you have, you should play.
It's one of those like top tier mountain Rush.
more style games, you know, that, that set up everything.
Everybody knows, you like when you hear monster kill or kiltacular, you know, you know what
it's from.
So, yeah, and thankfully, I do have a little bit of Halo knowledge just from playing Infinite with
everyone.
Yeah, yeah.
We played Infinite.
And I did play a little bit of Infinite's campaign with Josh, uh, before he got bored and left
me.
Right, right.
But yeah, yeah.
Halo is one of my big blind spots that I would like to eventually get around a building.
What about you, sir?
What is the second most egregious thing in your back home?
Oh, well, I would say that this is probably
probably the most egregious
if we're talking about levels of egregious nature
and I'm sure you know what I'm going to say right here.
I already know.
I already know.
It is one that I think we plan on playing this summer
once things die down a hair.
I hope.
We are able now with the beautiful modding community
and hands off to them mods.
I love you guys.
your ability to take these games and just twist them up to be better, like immediately is wild.
But I'm going to go with Eldon Ring.
I have yet to play an Eldon Ring other than Night Rain.
I played the Night Ring with you guys, and I absolutely loved it.
I loved the combat and the fast-paced nature.
I think, obviously, the original Eldon Ring is a little bit slower.
But with co-op, I feel all of us together playing.
is going to be something special.
It's probably the most anticipated
in my backlog that I really want to get to.
And I'm stoked for us to play it altogether.
Oh, dude, I'm super hyped for us to get around to that.
Josh has mentioned it a few times,
but I've played a lot of the co-op bond,
especially with like my other friend group
with Alexi, you'd show them.
And it is the funniest thing to be playing
against a boss together.
And you just watch your other friend get suplexed
while you're just standing on the sidelines,
you can't do anything.
Because the boss has,
yeah, the boss has eye frames and it grabs.
You're just like, ooh.
Well, I'm going to stay back here.
Oh, man.
That's awesome.
Well, yeah, I, I, uh, yeah, I'm just, I'm stoked, man.
It's, I'm sure, do they have, like,
what other mods do they have for?
Do they have, like, graphic mods,
or do they have everything?
There's insane amount of mods for Eldon Ring.
Things that add, like, completely different mod packs,
new like worlds to explore.
There's even ones that like throw
weapons from animas in there
or spells from like Jiu-Jitsu Kaizen.
Where you could like. Oh my gosh.
I'm just gonna have, I'm gonna have
the, the main guy doing the
Kameha Mayo Wave.
Exactly.
Everything dies.
Yeah.
Brah!
Everything dies. Ha!
You know, that's cool.
Well, yeah.
So the purest might get mad at you for that.
I'm sure.
Yeah.
whatever whatever i haven't played it yeah and it came out like in what 2015 17 18 something like
that when it was it elder ring that was yeah the original 22
original i guess i'm thinking of the souls game you're thinking of the souls game you're thinking
at the soul's game oh yeah elder ring is the newer game oh yeah i guess yeah because that's what
threw me off of elden ring was was playing oh yeah 22 February 25th dang ain't i good way off
way off all right your turn go all right
My other one on here, which I wouldn't say it's that egregious that I haven't played it,
but it's one I looked forward to a lot and I kind of fell off it because of the reviews of this podcast, actually,
is a game called Atomic Hearts.
It's like the Soviet set, almost Bioshock-like game with the kinky talking fridge that tries to grab you.
I remember people saying the protagonist was super unlikable and that the gunplay wasn't as tight as it looked like it should.
be, but then I've been seeing that they've added a ton to it and they've done a lot of quality
of life stuff to it.
So I'm very tempted to get back to it now that it's in my backlog.
I don't blame you, man.
Like this one is the one that I was the same.
Like it looked really good.
And we were excited, but then like reviews and what people were saying and stuff, it totally,
it totally turned me off of like checking it out.
Like in like we always say, we have so many games to play.
So if it's not really peaking our interest,
or it's not something that's getting highly reviewed.
It's hard for us to break away and play something like that
and spend 10 hours trying to get into it
and then being like, oh, well, that was a waste of time,
you know, and then coming to something else.
Yeah, especially if it's like way past its expiration date
and it's like, well, I can't even put this on the show anymore.
No one cares.
Right?
Yeah, why would I do this?
Because nobody's going to even look at it.
But, yeah, no, that was one.
I loved the aesthetic and I love the graphics and I love the style.
And it's just like, does the gameplay match?
up, you know, so.
Yeah.
And maybe one we have to check out at some point.
They added a bunch of DLC.
They've done a ton of quality of life stuff to it.
So definitely something we should check out at some point.
Maybe if it's, maybe it's something like, uh, um, what is it called?
The, uh, the space game that they, they fixed that I just, I just recently played.
No Man Sky.
No Man Sky.
Yeah, I can't ever remember the name.
The game you played?
No man. Yeah, I can't.
Like, yeah.
The game I just, I just played 20 hours like two months ago.
No, that one, I mean, it was.
it's a totally different game now.
Yeah, you're not wrong.
It's completely different.
A year or two later can make a big difference with these devs,
and they're coming in now and being able to update these games,
which is awesome.
So I love it.
I love it.
But, uh, all right.
Well,
I'm going to come back to you guys with my next pick right after this break.
All right.
We are back.
Uh, we've each got, what, three in now, two in, something like that.
I think this would be your third.
This will be my third.
This will be my third.
So I am going to go with a recent game that I did buy day one,
but we were doing another insane playthrough of the same style game with our whole community.
I'm going with Wind Roast.
Yeah.
I bought it day one.
I was excited for it.
And then somehow we just happened to have a server-wide rust.
and we just were buying private servers
and then we were just all playing together
and next thing you know,
I did not even touch it or download it.
I just bought it.
So I'm very excited.
I know.
I'm very excited for it and I have seen
a lot of amazing builds
in these ship battles
and all the crazy stuff.
I've heard such amazing things about this game.
But I've yet to even glimpse it.
Every time I get on,
I'm just like,
all right, well, I'm going to get on Rust with these crazy people on our server,
and we're all going to have a good time and go,
we can go sail a ship and Rust and, you know,
and sail in Moership and hang out with Bobby and everybody else,
and Steve and Greg and Kirshy and all that stuff.
And it's been a good time.
But, yeah, I have yet to hop in, but I am very interested in this game,
and I'll absolutely be checking it out soon.
Yeah, this is when I was interested in.
The only reason I didn't pick it up is because it was the early access.
And I was like, well, probably covered if it's an early
access.
But it also is like giving me black flag fever.
And with the resinked coming out, I'm like, man, I kind of want to do pirate stuff again.
I want to do pirate things.
Well, soon enough, you'll have, you'll have black flag.
I know.
Soon enough, I'll have black flag and I won't have to yearn for black flag feeling games.
I can just play black flag again.
Which I am excited for because I haven't played, I mean, I think we talked about this on one of the other episodes.
But like Josh, I haven't played.
Assassin's Creed since like the second or third one.
Yeah, you should have, I just.
You should have a few Assassin's Creed's in your backlog then.
Yeah, right.
I probably should, honestly, like, because I very much enjoyed Assassin's Creed.
Oh, those older games are great, dude.
Yeah.
Yeah, no, Winrose.
Oh, yeah.
Winrose, I think it's one that I'm going to definitely check out.
And it's sitting there in my library, just waiting to be played.
But I know with survival crafting and I know myself is I'll just be cutting down trees for
four hours and getting materials.
You'll never even see the ocean.
Yeah.
Never even see. You'll just be in the forest.
I'll just be in the forest.
Catching toads or whatever else they do.
Who knows?
Oh, man.
Anyways, what's you got, brother?
All right.
I bought this game series, like the entire series collection,
when Metal Gear Solid, you know, Delta Snake Eater was coming out.
I bought the entire remastered collection of Metal Gear Solid.
And I have not got to boot up a single one.
I don't know what we were playing and what pulled me from it,
but it must have been a big game.
Yeah.
Yeah, you're, um, if, okay, let me ask you this.
If you were to play one, what would you pick first?
I would probably start with, uh, MGS one.
Just the very first one and then just work my way through numerically.
I think that's the best way.
But I also do have the two Metal Gear games, so I can go back to play those as well.
Oh, sick.
Okay.
Yeah.
Yeah.
I mean, yeah.
There's, I mean, that was, I mean, I still have my original copy from when I was, you know, 11 or 12 years old of middle of a solid one.
Oh, wow.
It was one of my favorite games of all time.
Yeah, I got it right here.
Hold up.
I almost lost my mic.
For our audio only listeners, we do have video and Ryan is showing off a very, very neat.
This is my original copy as a kid.
My grandma, mama, I love you.
She got me this.
I talked to her into it.
She had no clue what it was and had no clue of how.
bad it was for an 11 year old but I talked to her into it because I played the demo and thought it was so cool
I still got the original the original man yeah man yeah that's that's a solid pick yeah it helps
that it has just like a blank white case and like no guns or violence or anything yeah like you're
like yeah it's a totally safe game and even the back is like there's not really much to see
no there's nothing you can't even tell what the game's about
Yeah, exactly.
No, that dude, that's an awesome pick.
Okay.
Whenever you decide, if you decide to play it, dude, I will 100% play along with you.
Okay.
Because I haven't played the first one in probably 15 years.
Like, it's, like, it was, and I had played it so much to where I could, like, speed run it,
and I knew everything and everywhere to go, and I had, like, the Infinity Ammo Bandana and then the stealth.
And I even had the snake tuxedo, so you could run around.
If you beat it a certain way, you can get a tuxedo and unlock stuff.
So, yeah, there's a lot of cool things.
Yeah, I know I've been, I initially tried to get into the Metal Gear series through like five on the PlayStation.
But I lived in a place with terrible Wi-Fi.
And if you know anything about that game, that game does not run without Wi-Fi.
No, not if you're going to stream it.
Yeah, that thing is, you said five?
Yeah, I think it was.
For five, yeah.
That one.
Yeah, fandom pain, yeah.
That one's, it's a little graphic heavy.
It's a little graphic heavy.
And if you didn't have all the stuff.
downloaded, it just did not work.
Yeah, but then thankfully, I have my PC and they dropped the remastered collection on the
PC, so I picked that up for a decent price.
You know what's crazy too is that that came out, Middiger Solid 5, that came out in
2015.
That came out 16 years ago.
Dang!
Right?
You haven't had anything but a remaster since?
Bad math, bad math, not 16 years ago.
Wait a minute.
Not 16 years ago, 11 years ago.
I'm getting I'm getting super excited
No no I love you go
He loves Mogear so much
I'm sure people in their car right now
We're like what
Oh we've done worse math here before Ryan
We've done worse math here before Ryan
This is true
This is true
No MGS the remaster collection is high up in my backlog
I need to get to
What's that you sir? What's up for you?
So I'm going to go to
A co-op game, a couch co-op game
One that is very very
good and I immediately wanted to play and I don't know why I never played it. I guess I never
really thought about it or got to it when it originally came out. But after playing split fiction,
I'm like, I really like this. I like this style. I like this game. And I have,
it takes two. Yeah, yeah. It is one that won a lot of awards. Game of the year winner.
It's an amazing game. Game of the year winner. And I have yet to play it. And my son, nine years old,
I've had him on the sticks since he was one or two.
Even when I didn't have batteries in it, like he just had one in his hand.
So he's been there.
And he's a very accomplished and good gamer now.
He's a plattie hunter.
I don't know.
He didn't get it for me because I don't care about trophies or all that.
But he'll play a game until he gets platy on it now.
And he's nine years old.
So he loves it.
And it's something that we had a fun time with split fiction.
And I would love to play another couch co-op with him.
to where we have to work together and have teamwork and I can talk trash to him when he
messes up and he he can talk trash to me so I think I think that one would be a good one that
we need to we need to get in you know at some point soon yeah you too would enjoy that one
I will say it definitely has some interesting moments uh that are a little weird since
you're playing as a divorce or a couple trying to get divorced is oh okay hey buddy don't worry mom and dad
we'll never do this.
We're just a story, son.
It's just a story.
So, see, have you played it?
Yeah, me and my partner played it.
It was a, we enjoyed it.
We actually beat that one.
We didn't actually get to beat split fiction, but we beat, uh, it takes two.
So did you fight it all?
Oh, no.
I just, no, okay.
Usually, uh, I've seen things where people are like, they start arguing.
They're like, you need to do this.
You need it.
And they start, they start getting out of each other.
Same as like what is it, the overcooked
or the other games where people start fighting
with each other and stuff like that.
If we start like struggling or having hard times
doing things, we just like, you know what? We're going to look it up.
We're not going to, no. There you go.
We're not going to even try. Because if I try
to tell you how to do it, you're going to get upset
with me and I'm just going to look it up and we're going to be good.
That's how you make a relationship work there.
That's smart.
I know what to do is. The good one with that one is
there's like several instances where you can just troll the other person
while just playing the game.
There's whack-a-mole games. There's cages.
You're speaking my language now. Yeah, yeah.
You're speaking my language. You can torment him
pretty much the entire game.
Oh, all right. All right. We may
bump it up, too, on the games played.
We're like, all right, buddy, you're going to have to wait for this
plattie. You're going to have to play this game with me.
And he'd be like, okay.
Well, sweet, man. Oh, cool. Well, so yeah, I'm doing
it takes two what you got for your next
one, brother. This one is
another one people are going to find
pretty horrific that I have not
play this series. This is actually my brother's
favorite series, which my brother's 10 years
older than me. So
a little bit of a disparity there.
Okay. Yeah.
And that is the Mass Effect
legendary collection.
I need to play Mass Effect.
It is a series that everyone
heralds is one of the best.
It is like the top sci-fi game, probably of all time,
I would say, at least the first three.
I know Adromeda is no good, but
yeah. Yeah. Yeah.
No, that, I mean, that's one of Paul's, like, former hosts of the show.
It's one of his favorite games of all time.
That's the reason I picked it up is because he was talking about it.
So it's like, well, obviously, it's not just my dumb brother who likes this game.
I should probably pick it up.
And the other millions of people that have bought it and then it's world-renowned, you know, no big deal.
But, you know, this is, yeah, it's one of those choices matter.
Choices make a big deal, you know, within this game.
But it's also, it has good gameplay.
It was amazing graphics for the time.
It looks good.
It still looks pretty good.
You know, and that's one definitely.
If you've never played it and if you're listening, you've never played it,
it's a game that is kind of on that pantheon.
You definitely have to check it out.
It is if you enjoy those games where, you know, choices matter and your gameplay, you know,
is also affected by that, you know, it's a good one to pick.
I feel like most people are very unsurprised with what my backlog is.
and it's mostly full of AAA titles that I've skipped over for other indie games.
Oh, this weird pixel art.
I'm going to play this instead.
I'm literally like a caricature of what everyone thinks I have.
It's like, ah, yes, he skips all the good games.
Stereotypes are there for a reason, brother.
Yeah, yeah.
We know you.
We know you.
I definitely fall into a certain category.
What's your got up next?
That's a good pick.
So, okay, so my next one, if you're listening to this now,
one of our previous episodes, Ace,
talked to me into this, and we mentioned it.
It was our triple deep dive.
I was unsure about it, and then we did the triple deep dive,
and I wasn't going to play it.
And then this thing that I think sold me on it.
And it's the mouse PI for hire.
Rubber hose, crazy game, shoot them up, crazy,
black and white and they got mods and, you know, I can see myself talking in the noir setting,
like, as I'm playing and like, oh, yeah, see, you know.
That may have happened to me while I was streaming it, like a few times.
I could imagine you, yeah, by yourself, yeah, yeah, just streaming, just talking like it.
Everyone in the chat was like, never stop.
I just talk that way forever.
Talk that way forever.
So, yeah, dude, you talked me into it, man.
You sold me on it.
I've played more MoussPI since.
there is an entire level
dedicated to doom.
So you get a chainsaw
and you just get to start hacking apart demons.
You're speaking my language, man.
In black and white.
It's so cool. I love it.
I love it. Dude, that's good.
So what, I guess what,
for me,
if people didn't hear the episode,
what is your kind of 15 second
like cell on this, like to get people to play?
15 second cell, a mouse PI.
It's just a great,
grand old, good time living back
in the noir days with a 1930s rubber hose aesthetic just with an amazing boomer shooter built in.
Like you would think like the aesthetics would be the main selling point.
The gunplay is just that tight and fun.
It's just that good.
Bro, there's something to be said about that is when you have like a style of game where
you try so hard to be unique with the aesthetics and the look and the style and how people are going to perceive this game.
but then the actual gameplay itself matches that.
That's cool.
That's when you have a winner.
And so that's awesome that, in your opinion, that it's turned out that way.
I'm really excited.
I genuinely do want to check it out.
You sold me on it.
It's going to be one that at some point soon, within this year, I promise.
Within this year, I will play MalsPI for hire.
Have fun playing Mouss P.I. on vacation, Ryan.
Right?
That would be, that actually, that actually would be.
be pretty sweet. I'll just make my wife drive
and I'll just play it in the car.
All right, honey, you're going to take us there,
chauffeur. I got to
solve this case.
So now can I get a Nicholas
Cage like mod, like voice mod pack?
Probably, I don't know.
There's someone working on a full color mod for the game.
I saw you post that or you talked about it.
Full color and of course the blood mod. Do you think that that would
that would kind of change things too much?
It would take away from it? They're doing a very
muted color style. So it's not.
super like vibrant it's still very old timey very like dark city but i i think i think you
would uh everyone should just play it black and white that's just the better i think so too it's the way
it was designed it ain't the wizard of oz you ain't open the door and now it's in now in technicolor
like shut the door i love shut the door all right all right buddy what you got for your next one
all right this one is one that josh has been heralding for years now he's he claims this is a better
Goulders gate three.
And that is none other than Divinity
the original sin two.
I knew it.
Das 2, man.
Das 2 has been in my backlog for the longest
time now.
I hear Josh Harold it all the time.
I see him actively convert people in our discord to it.
All the time.
All the time.
It's kind of like Remnant 2.
Like it's this one in Remnant 2 where if he's,
if anyone even like asks about a game like that,
he's there.
Instantly.
Instantly.
It's like he like gets like Josh sent,
Spidey Sense and he just goes there and he's like,
oh, does somebody mention like you with rats?
Somebody mentioned rats?
You know, he's got like a little like one of those restaurant buzzers in his pocket.
And it's like, it's like, oh, it just buzzes.
Hold on, honey.
Somebody mentioned dust two.
My table's ready.
Yeah.
Let me set this up.
I loved Balders Gate 3.
So Doss 2 is definitely one I need to get to.
I don't know if I'll play it like multiplayer.
If that one has multiplayer or not and I'll play it with Venn or if it would just be when I
play by myself.
but I'm looking forward to it.
And I'm going to make it as far as possible.
20 years old.
20.
No, I'm kidding.
I'm kidding.
I'm kidding.
I'm kidding.
I'm kidding.
It's not that old.
No, it's not.
The original event and he's getting a remake so it can't be that old.
Right.
No, this is one.
I also have not played DOS 2.
I don't know.
I don't know that I have any interest to play it,
but I know that it's championed among a lot of people and a lot of people love it.
So good for them and I hope they enjoy it.
I do too.
All right.
And I hope when you eventually play it, you enjoy it too.
I should.
I like Boulder's Gate 3.
You got one more you want to?
Yeah, no, if you, I think if you like that, I mean, this is one, obviously, it's, it's way up there.
Let me see here on Steam.
Overwhelmingly positive.
Oh my gosh.
No, no.
It's very positive with research.
reviews 92%
Whoa, they went down?
Yeah, 95% on
on normal reviews.
Oh my gosh, dude, that's crazy.
Dang.
Yeah, that's, I mean, how many,
how many games are you going to see that?
So that's,
it's way, way up there.
Well, to be fair, I think that,
uh, that developer was recently review bombed because they're,
one of their CEOs said something stupid about AI.
So,
dude, review bombing is so dumb.
Yeah, don't review bomb people.
It's a waste of your time.
It's a waste of your time and resources and you just make people look bad when they,
Haven't done anything, do you?
Yeah.
All right.
So we're going to do one or two more.
We're running out of time here.
Yeah.
I'm going to go with a game that is a throwback for me.
It's a remake, remaster, remod, or whatever you want to call it.
This was highly touted by a bunch of people in our Discord.
Heads up, if you haven't joined our Discord, join it.
We have 1,400, almost 1,400 people on there.
Super active.
We're in there every single day, chatting and saying good morning and talking to people, talking games, life, whatever.
It's amazing.
But this one's talked about a lot when people mention these old Valve games.
And I'm going with the Half-Life Black Mesa.
I love the Half-Life world.
That was like my era.
That was my time of youth.
I was like a freshly, you know, born teenager in that time frame.
I was I was going to the the coffee shops or the internet cafes paying two bucks an hour or whatever,
three bucks an hour, buying them out and doing a in a slim gym and it's just playing video games.
Just playing half life.
Yeah, and just playing half life.
And we'd play day defeat and Counterstrike and all that stuff back then.
But Black Mace is supposed to be a really, really cool update to the game.
And it's original.
It still has its bones.
but it's supposed to be really, really good.
So it's a backlog game that I haven't had a chance to check out
because I love the Half-Life games,
but I just need to get to it.
So it's one that I really want to.
It's on the list.
Yeah, Black Mesa is probably the one I would play as well
just because I haven't played any of the Half-Life games,
which we've gone to go before.
But that would be like the, I guess, the most easy-to-entry one.
If you're going to check it out,
I think it has some quality of life updates
and a little bit better graphics and stuff like that.
It does look like Gary's Mon.
Right.
All right.
My next one here is Bayonetta, which those, yeah, I have not played Bayonetta.
I ended up getting Bayonetta for free when I bought a bundle of Devil May Cry games.
Because, you know, I love Hackenslashes.
I love Hackenslashes.
I love Devil May Cry.
Got Bayonetta for free.
I've heard nothing but good things about Bayonetta.
Yeah.
This is, for those who don't know, it's a hack and slash game about a witch who fights using her hair demon, basically.
Oh, my gosh.
Which is also her clothes.
she has guns.
And feet guns.
She has feet guns.
It is very Japanese.
What more can you ask for than feet guns?
Feet guns, man.
Feet guns.
There was their like, hey, what do you guys think about feet guns?
They're like, all right, give it to Gary.
He's got that foot fetish.
Like, he'll just take over that.
He'll take over that side.
Here, he'll animate her break dancing without shoes.
He's programming.
And he's like, yeah, here we go.
It's like, all right, everyone fire Gary.
It's time to put the graphic designer on this.
All right, we're done.
We're done with Gary now.
No, that's cool.
I have never played Bayonetta.
What were you going to say?
I was just going to say,
Bayonetta got into Smash before Dante.
Really?
Yeah.
Oh, wow.
I didn't know that.
Smash Bros.
And Dante is not.
Jeez.
I mean, it's the feet guns.
It's the feet guns.
And also the fact that I think Bayonetta, like, debuted.
on Nintendo consoles initially
and then eventually
found its way to other consoles
I could be wrong about that
I just remember like
Nintendo was very friendly with Bayonetta
by giving her like crossover costumes
that dressed her like Princess Peach and stuff
Oh yeah
That's standard Nintendo obviously
They're always so giving right
Oh yeah
caring and giving
I haven't seen a single like good Nintendo crossover
In years
Right unless it came out of an amoe
Well that's cool
I haven't
I have not played that game.
I don't honestly think I ever will.
Fair enough.
Backlogs are there for certain people for a reason.
So some people like them, some people don't.
Do you have any, we got to wrap up here.
So do you got any honorable mentions?
Yeah, I got one or two honorable mentions here.
Anatria the last song, which is a Soulslike set in Italian mythology.
I really want to get into.
I watch some trailers on this.
This one looks great.
It looks like it plays great.
It looks cool.
the reviews when they came out were very mixed bag
so I didn't end up picking this one up just because of the reviews alone
it just goes to show you audience
we can be swayed by really bad reviews
yes yes we can
uh withering rooms which is one morgo really loves and has been championing for a while
I picked it up and I really want to get to it I just haven't had time
this is the like horror RPG rogue like
set in like the haunted house
It looks really good
And it played really good
When I finished the demo
I just haven't had time
To go and play it man
For as
I mean it's not like
Super in depth
graphics and like
Amazing scenery and stuff
But like it looks scary
It captures that creepy vibe
Without falling in that PS1
Like that yeah exactly
It's still creepy and good looking
It's still creepy for what it is
And you're just like
Oh I think I could get sunk into this
and like, you know, feel it.
Like get that, you know, atmosphere and stuff.
So, no, that's a good one too, for sure.
What about you? You got? Awesome.
Yeah, so I got a couple more for honorable mentions.
Alan Wake 2.
Yeah, Alan Wake 2.
That is one.
Obviously got amazing reviews.
Paul, again, you know, another one that he loves.
Choices Matter and detective work.
I've watched that music video like 10 times.
Right.
Nice.
So that one is one.
I definitely want to try, but I think that's like kind of a time commitment, and I know myself, and I am an explorer in video games, and I look in nooks and crannies and look at the world, and I just look how things are designed and developed, and then, you know, imagine the setting when people were there, this or that, you know, so those games always take me forever to play.
Did you play the first one?
I did not, no.
Oh, they remastered the first one as well, so.
Well, I guess the first one's on my honorable mentions as well then.
I got them both on there.
So one and two.
I'm like one and two.
And then lastly,
dying light, the beast.
Oh, yeah.
So I played the first one
for the hijack a host.
And I was
pleasantly surprised
with how much I love that game.
I love the combat
and the parkour nature
and the speed and movement in that game.
And then the light cycle
with the timing when it turns night
and then the creatures come out and it's even worse and everything about it like is good and
the beast is supposed to be even better.
So it's one of those again that we just ran out of time.
Oh, we got to cover this for the pod.
We got to cover that for the pod.
And I just hadn't had a chance to get into it.
So at some point I'm definitely going to check it out.
But it's, uh, it's up there.
It's high on the list for sure.
Thank you.
Yeah, dude.
Yeah, no.
The beast looked great.
It was just when we just didn't have time to get to you.
And after playing the first game, I know that you were definitely itching to get to it.
Oh, absolutely. Yeah, for sure. But, all right. Well, cool. Well, that's our backlogs. If you have backlog, please let us know if you pair it up with us on a few games or if you have your own list, comment in Spotify or any of the other podcast networks that we're on. Let us know.
