Hello, fellow test subjects, and welcome to the Video Gamers Podcast.
Today, we're throwing our morals and humanity to the wind as we deep dive one of the craziest games ever, the Outlast Trials.
It's going to be a wild episode, but first, some introductions are in order. order i am your host josh and joining me you'll often find him running the killer straight into
our group asking for res or losing horribly and i do mean horribly at arm wrestling it's ryan oh
you those are mutually exclusive you cannot uh pair up the arm wrestling with what we do you
know in the in the area you know when we're running around fighting these crazy beasts.
I don't know, man.
I think it's all pretty indicative of just your general gameplay sense.
All I know is you may be the best virtual arm wrestler in the world.
I know I can beat you in real life, so I'm just going to be happy with that.
You think?
I don't know, man. I know. Oh, going to, I'm just going to be happy with that. You think? Oh,
I know.
Oh,
you know.
Oh, I know.
I got 10 years old man strength on you.
That's fine.
You can have a hundred years old man strength,
brother.
Oh boy.
I'm going to start watching arm wrestling videos after this.
Josh starts his training montage with Rocky music.
Oh man.
All right.
Well,
we've gotten sidetracked already,
which is going to be a good indicator of how this episode is going to go. Listen, we are covering the Outlast Trials. This punches whatsoever. This game is a straight up
horror based game that focuses on gore, uncomfortable situations, psychotic killers,
terrible, terrible things. And listen, while we always keep our episode family friendly,
we have to kind of preface this episode in particular to say,
look, we are going to cover subject matter that we don't normally cover on this show.
So if you are listening with small children, I would say skip it for now, come back to it.
But we're going to cover things like mutilation, nudity, just horrific environments and things like that. So this is your fair warning as
far as the content matter of this episode goes. Again, we won't be cussing or anything like that,
but just be aware, okay? We always try to keep it family friendly. And so if you've got your kids in
the car with you right now or something like that, maybe come back to this episode a little bit later.
Okay. Well, with that out of the way, let's get into some wholesome content, Ryan, because we have a new review that we wanted to read.
One of our favorite things is getting reviews from the listeners.
If you have been listening to this podcast for a while and you're enjoying the content, please take the time to leave us a review or rate us five stars.
If this is your first episode, number one, welcome. Thanks for checking us out.
And afterwards, if you're like, yo, that was really good, then maybe think about leaving us a review after that. But this review comes in from Operator Reality and it's titled Hidden
Achievement Found. And it says, find the best gaming podcast.
The goofballs are hands down
two of the most entertaining people to listen to.
We miss you, Paul.
Ryan and Josh are fantastic hosts
who aren't scared to tell you their opinions on video games,
especially if they think you should play it.
I was in the search for a good gaming podcast
to listen to for my commute to work.
I started with GameScoop from IGN,
but couldn't get hooked. But it didn't take long for me to find these guys. I normally listen on
Spotify, but I had to make sure to write a review and follow on Apple Podcasts as well.
These guys are amazing. I'm super excited for the Star Wars Outlaws deep dive. I wish I could
rate this 20 out of 10 because that is the quality and awesomeness of this podcast.
The community is amazing. I recently joined the discord and was welcomed with open arms.
I didn't just find a podcast. I found a gaming family. So yeah, achievement completed.
Oh yeah. Oh, that's a good one, man. That was such a good one. And I love that,
that they, they listen on Spotify and then they went to Apple just to leave the review, which is awesome.
That's going above and beyond for sure. And speaking of Spotify, I know I'm on this hashtag road to 1,000.
We're at 974.
I want that 1,000 reviews so bad.
26 away?
So bad.
Let me double check my math.
26 away?
Oh, man.
Awesome.
All right.
Well, you know what?
That's enough of the non-gaming chatter.
Ryan, let's get into this.
We are going to cover the Outlast Trials.
I'm going to start off by reading a description of the game.
So, set in the era of the Cold War, human guinea pigs are involuntarily recruited by the good folks at the Murkoff Corporation to test advanced methods of brainwashing and mind control.
In a world of distrust, fear, and violence, your morals will be challenged, your endurance tested, and your sanity crushed.
Well, that morals being challenged part really sticks out to me, Ryan. Just a little bit.
Just a little bit. I'm not sure if I want to talk about the things that we did in this game or that
this game made us do. Unspeakable acts. Do we need a disclaimer just to protect ourselves that,
you know, might say, hey, we would never do this to people.
Video Gamers Podcast would never do any of these items that we are describing
today. There we go. Perfect. Well, there's legal out of the way. All right. So let's talk about
Outlast. First of all, I have heard of the Outlast games, Outlast 1, Outlast 2, the Outlast Trials.
I remember at one point picking up Outlast 2 when it came out. I played it for, I think it was an hour and 59 minutes,
and then I actually wound up refunding it because I just wasn't in the right mood for a horror game.
And these games generally focus on gore as their horror. And gore, I've said this before,
gore just doesn't really do it for me in a horror game.
Same. I'm the same way.
And so we don't really have any kind of history with
the outlast games prior to this one and and i'm assuming same for you right you've never played
one of these yeah same for me i know we covered it a little bit in our um spooky games uh top
fives that we just released uh last week or earlier in the week and uh yeah it's just it's
not something that i've played a lot of.
And, you know, just not something that jives too much with me.
But, you know, I get why people do love these these games in this genre.
Yeah, we actually had quite a few people hop in and after our top scariest games episode kind of come in and say, you guys didn't talk about Outlast at all. And it's like, I get it. And I know for a lot of people, the Outlast games are kind of really up there because
they really, I don't even want to say they push the boundaries. They just break through it. Like
people are going to find out right over. I mean, they went, you know what, if we're, if we're
making a horror game, we are making a horror game and we are not pulling any punches and believe me,
they don't. Um, but a lot of people did come out and say, Hey, what about the Outlast games? And I think they just weren't in our personal top five. Cause again, we've never
played any of them. Um, until now. Yeah. And we played it for sure. Oh man. Oh boy. Um, okay,
Ryan. So for, for somebody that's never heard of the Outlast trials or the Outlast games in general,
give us the quick fellow gamers
summary, if you can. Give us the 60-second breakdown of what the Outlast Trials even is.
Definitely. If there's a way to describe utter chaos and psychosis and all the craziness that
ensued for us. But multiplayer, online game, there's tons of different levels and stages where you have
to complete certain uh trial or mission within each stage so you have to go in you're hunted by
uh different characters throughout that area while you try to complete that and and the name of the
game is just to survive as you go through you have to do whatever tasks are assigned to you.
You have to survive.
You're playing with two other companions that you can all kind of assist each other.
You can help each other up through areas.
You can help each other move throughout the environment that you're competing in,
and it's just utter, utter chaos.
At the end of the day, all you have to do is you have to complete that objective that
they set forth as crazy as it may be.
Oh, and it's crazy.
And then even the extraction, you know, if you want to call it an extraction, cause it's
just, let's get the heck out of here.
Um, that's even crazy.
So it's, yeah, it's come in, do what you got to do and get out is, is the kind of nuts
and bolts of it with
a lot of craziness in between yeah i would say if i had to relate this game to a well-known movie
or something i would say this is the embodiment of like what saw would be if it was a video game
you were you were placed into a test or a trial that you have to complete if you want to live. It is all very intentional what they
are doing to you. And you kind of said, you just have to survive. In that case, your quest is to
complete the objective and then get out alive. And then that's it. Now, we kind of hinted at this,
that your main quest for each stage is something horrible. So bad.
This isn't like, hey, just find the exit, buddy. This is like, hey, go murder this person in
horrible fashion and then you can leave. Oh yeah, but the whole time you're getting hunted by some
psychotic killer, by the way. But they don't say it that way. They make it and broadcast it
as like some heroic deed you're doing.
You have to cleanse this thing or fix that thing,
and then you're going and just doing
these horrific tasks throughout.
Like at each stage, it's just, it's so gnarly, man.
It is gnarly indeed.
Okay, Ryan, one of the things that I'm really
starting to enjoy as we break down these games is just talking about the hook, the part of the
game that really caught our attention. Um, because I think it's fairly indicative and it's always
something different, which I really like, you know, as far as that goes, um, whether it's the
graphics, the gameplay, the setting, uh, whatever it is, you know, as far as that goes, um, whether it's the graphics, the gameplay, the setting,
uh, whatever it is, you know, there's always something about a game that you remember as far as like being like, oh, this was the best part of this.
Sometimes it's not as easy to put our finger on, you know, as far as like, oh,
the graphics were amazing. Right. It's so you and i actually had a little conversation before we started recording
and we were like how do we how do we quantify the the thing about what is it yeah what is it what
what's the thing of this game well ryan uh we after putting our two uh you know significant brains together we came up with the it factor
for the outlast trials and uh we'll just let this sound clip uh kind of introduce this
it is bananas man that is the thing that stands out about this game is it's freaking bananas man
insane everyone every mission every objective everything you do it just keeps getting crazier
and surprises you more and you're like who came up with this dude we have to just touch on some
of the most insane things about this because people
are going like, what do you mean?
The thing that stands out is this game is bananas.
Okay.
So listen, we're not have a ton of spoilers in this game.
I mean, there's really not a big story or anything like that, but we're going to touch
on the levels.
We're going to touch on some of the really psychotic things that you wind up doing in
this game.
So if you don't want any spoilers at all, then this is your kind of your warning. As far as
that goes, there's no huge reveals or anything like that. So we're not going to reveal any game
breaking stuff, but we're definitely going to talk about some of the trials and some of the
crazy things that you have to do. So when we talk about a game being bananas, well, I'll just start
with one, Ryan. How about the fact that you have to saw a guy's legs off as part of one of your missions?
Easy work, dude.
Did we mention he's alive?
Who hasn't sawed off somebody's legs while they're alive, man?
What are you talking about?
Yeah.
How about punishing bad kids by grinding them to pieces?
Oh, is there any other way?
I mean, you know, know now to be fair these
were mannequin kids these aren't real children by the way uh there's some things that even this game
won't cross the line which makes it even spookier too is like they do do that a lot throughout all
the missions as they have these weird mannequins or just things just to throw you off just to freak
you out just to make you kind of that extra creepy factor.
They just did such a good job at putting all those little sprinkles of just eeriness throughout the game.
Yeah, yeah, they really do.
How about, oh, I don't know, turning a guy into a living mannequin by melting hot wax all over him?
Doesn't everybody want to be a living mannequin?
Not in this way,
I can tell you that. Yeah, that's true.
How about participating in a
trial as the judge and
executioner?
You know, in another life, I think I fashioned
myself a lawyer, so...
Oh, you were definitely a lawyer in this one,
Ryan. You had no qualms about that sentencing
at the end of that stage.
Listen, I mean, this game.
And don't forget, we were packing drugs, too.
Oh, yeah.
Yeah.
Making drugs and then poisoning them.
Oh, and then, you know, just no biggie.
Just stuffing them into human corpses.
Well, how else are we going to get them across the border, dude?
Yeah.
The mules.
OK, so listen, for people that are saying like, what the heck?
Yes.
Yeah.
That's the question.
This is real.
That's the question.
What the heck?
What the heck, man?
That's why we said bananas.
It's insane.
Dude, this game puts you in the most awkward, like horrifying situations to where you were
like, are you kidding me right now?
You want me to do what? And then that's your mission. And you're like, okay, I guess we're
doing this. But then it's like, you're in this level. So that's your overarching goal is to
complete this horrifying thing that would go against every fiber of your moral and your
character and all that stuff.
And then it's like, okay, but you have to do this. And then along the way inside this trial,
you have to complete these little like section of side missions so that you can get to the final
objective and then complete whatever atrocity this game is going to throw at you. And I know
that when we were playing this game, you and I played this game with good friend
of the show, Ace of Shame, who, by the way, a little bit of a spoiler, might be making a guest
appearance a little bit later in this episode. But you, me, and Ace played this entire game
together. Yes. And I remember after the first night, the first night of playing this game,
I believe we only did the first trial. And we all stopped and we just went, what the heck was that?
Dude, we did that after the tutorial, like the intro.
I know I finished it just a little bit before you.
So then me and Ace were watching you finish it.
And I'm like, oh, I know that part.
I know that part.
We're like, run, Josh, run.
No.
And that itself was insane just just the intro
tutorial mission was was out of this world it was crazy this game throws you right in right away i
mean it does have a good tutorial i like i like the tutorial this isn't just oh you can walk
forward by pushing w like it gets your feet get your feet feet wet. You know what you're going to get into for sure. Yeah. And they throw some, some creepiness at you very early on as well.
So I know for us and listen, I know as a listener, as somebody that's like, I want to know more
about this game, we're going to get into a little bit more of the gameplay details and
stuff like that.
But hands down, I said it during the intro, this might be the craziest game that I think
I've ever played.
Do you agree?
Yeah. the intro this might be the craziest game that i think i've ever played uh do you agree yeah i i think um it's it's when they're like kind of in their discussion board they're just like
no no holds barred nothing off limits and they're just throwing the craziest most
mutilating disgusting things and i'm like all right that that that that let's mash them all
together into one level and they're like okay you know if people need more stuff to be like well that doesn't sound
bananas enough to me okay how about while you're playing the game that there's some i don't know
eight foot monstrosity that's chasing you yeah but he's just totally naked yeah just just
completely naked and he just grabs you and then he pummels you. And if you're unlucky enough,
like you were, he can finish you off as far as like actually like killing you permanently.
And let me tell you, there is nothing more unpleasant than being murdered by an eight
foot tall naked man that is standing directly over you. Yeah. I am. I am not a fan of getting
finished off by an eight foot tall naked man.
Yeah.
And so, I mean, that is this game in a nutshell.
Ryan's just giggling, man.
Oh my goodness.
That's, yeah, that's what this game does. We warned everybody.
This isn't a family appropriate show.
Yeah.
Not today.
Not today, baby.
So listen, we've covered that this game is nuts. We've covered that if you go into this game, just be prepared because it is going to throw
things at you that you would not expect a video game to do.
I think that's part of what makes this game what it is, is that we were constantly just
kind of in shock and awe over like, oh my goodness.
All right.
But we're going to get into the actual gameplay, the nuts and right, but we're going to get into the actual gameplay,
the nuts and bolts,
but we're going to take a quick break before we do that.
And then we'll come back and talk about the actual gameplay
and what you do in this.
This is an ad from BetterHelp Online Therapy.

We've kind of, you know, prefaced people as to what to expect from this game.
But, you know, that still doesn't answer the question of what are you doing, right?
Like, what do you do in this game?
And I'll start off by saying I had heard about this game a long time ago.
I remember looking for like a multiplayer game and seeing this game pop up.
I remember looking at the reviews, which it gets very good reviews, by the way, and thinking,
how is that possible?
Like a horror game that's multiplayer that gets really good reviews looks really good
at the same time.
I got to say the graphics are pretty good for a horror game
you know but i still went like but i don't know what you're doing man they call it the outlast
trials like what are these trials you're in and so i actually followed this game for a little
while before we decided to pick it up and play it for this episode but i did not know what to expect
from a gameplay standpoint did you did you know anything about this game before we started playing it?
Had you seen trailers?
Had you heard of it?
I knew,
I knew nothing.
And I know,
uh,
I talked about this in,
um,
our,
our scary episodes.
I just,
I don't gravitate towards these types of games.
Usually I'm a,
I'm a big,
uh,
baby coward with all of this stuff.
I hate,
uh,
horror and suspense and gore and jump scares and all that
stuff. And this had it all. And so these are the ones that I don't really see. If I see, I just
kind of scroll past or skip past it. So for me, this was all just brand new. Everything that I
looked and saw was new to me. So it was fresh eyes, and it did not disappoint.
It was pretty intense.
Yeah, I agree with you there.
I kind of touched on that after the first gameplay session that we had.
I remember us going like, oh my goodness.
What?
I don't know what I was expecting, but I was not expecting that.
And then you're like, okay, what the heck else is going to happen?
What are the other
missions and you're not you're are you are surprised every time every time you think
like you got it figured out it's something else that's absolutely insane that they throw at you
yeah it's it definitely does not peak at the first mission and they continue to throw things at you
where you're just like really like really guys like really, guys? Like, we're going there? Like, okay. We're doing this, huh? And the whole time you're on the mission, you're like,
oh, oh, man. Oh. And you're making a face and you're kind of like cringing, but you're still
doing it. And that's what it is like the whole session each time. Yeah. And I think part of that
is because a lot of the gameplay revolves around survival, right? Like your goal in this game is to survive. You
have to complete these trials, but you're just a dude trying to not die. You know, I don't want to
die horribly, but it's like, well, you're in this trial and there's only one way out. So you got to
do this thing. So let's talk about a little bit of the gameplay aspects. I think for me, the various
levels, we're going to call them trials because that's what they actually are.
But there are six distinct trials in this game that you have to go through.
I would say each trial,
if you,
if you don't die and have to restart,
I would say that the average length of one of these trials takes about an
hour.
Yeah.
You know,
45 to an hour,
depending.
You know, if you're figuring it out for the first time i would say it's probably closer to that hour mark but if you know what
you're doing like we did fail one trial and we had to go back and kind of start it from the
beginning but at that point we kind of knew what we were doing so it was much more accelerated as
far as getting past like the first half of it goes. But these trials are kind of what defined the game.
And so these are like the different stages.
So there are six main trials in this game.
Let's just, we'll just touch on these very briefly
because I don't want to get too far in the weeds
on all these different levels.
And there's some stuff for people
that might pick this game up
that it's good for them to just kind of find out about.
But the very first one that you play is called Kill the Snitch.
You are in a kind of police station building thing.
And this is where you realize that this game is truly bonkers,
because your goal is to take this snitch and basically execute this guy in horrific fashion at the end of the level.
He is strapped to a wheelchair with a bag over his head. He knows that you're there. He's talking to
you. He's not been treated nicely. He's got certain things carved into his skin and things like that.
And your goal for this level is to basically push this wheelchair to the
execution room and then execute this guy. And man, what an introduction to a video game.
Oh, just that's a way to get started right there, brother, right off the bat.
I mean, so while you're in this level and while you're trying to get this snitch,
you know, to the end of the level, Ryan, give us a breakdown of like what the just moment to moment gameplay is like. I mean, you are trying to survive. There's items in the game.
You have to find things. And in this case, we had to find different keys to unlock doors so that we
could progress. So kind of give us a little, a quick rundown of like the minute to minute gameplay
as far as like, once you're in the trial, you know what your overall goal is, but like, what
are you actually doing? So, so a big thing too, to kind of set the stage for this, off the bat, you're being hunted.
Your death is imminent.
Everyone wants to kill you.
That's in the trial.
So anywhere you look, somebody's trying to get you or kill you.
You can't fight back.
That's one of the biggest things. The biggest defense you have, other than some stuff you can unlock, which we'll talk about, is you can have a brick or a glass bottle and you can stun them for a second.
But you're not fighting them.
You're not beating them up and killing them and then you can go about your way.
You just have to run and escape and hide or get to a different section where they're not at and they lose you.
So right off the bat, that's kind of what you're dealing with.
And so you have to do all of these tasks with that in mind.
Where you can't get away from these guys because they're just constantly hunting you and you can't kill them.
So you're running through.
And then this one is like a track mission where you're pushing this guy through this area.
Trying to get through.
Stuff's coming at you.
You keep having to break off to unlock doors.
Get through areas.
Every time you get to a new stage, you got to unlock more doors.
And so it's just a constant revolving just chaos to where something crazy happens.
You're running through the next section. You're almost
dying. You're trying to hide. You're trying to recover. And the guy's back there. And so then
you still got to push them through. And so it's just nonstop, 100% adrenaline, 100% chaos.
Every mission is that way too, which is just crazy to me.
You are never safe in this game.
Like ever.
And then the moment you think you're safe where you're like, okay, cool.
There's nobody chasing us.
There's nothing around.
Let's focus on this objective right here.
You round a corner and there's the bad guy.
And they're smart.
If they see you, they're coming after you.
If you make sound, they're coming after you.
And even if you hide, it's one of those things where they're kind of semi-smart.
So if they know you just went into a room and you disappeared all of a sudden, they will start checking under the bed and under the desk or maybe inside the locker or something like that.
We have some video of me getting yoinked out of a locker by one of these bosses.
Ace was in the same locker with me.
You were running around doing something, and I just got yoinked out of there, pummeled to near death, and then luckily made my escape.
But it's like, that's what's happening.
You are never safe in this game.
You never feel like you get to breathe or you know take a rest or something like
that like there is always danger around every corner um i will say the game does throw i won't
i don't want to call them puzzles but it throws like mechanics at you right so for this first
mission you know we're taking this guy to the execution chamber we're going to electrocute him
so part of that is we have to turn the generators on you know and so now we're downstairs in a creepy basement looking for these generators i forgot about that dude yeah i know
right our brain our brains tend to block out some of this stuff we're getting stalked by this dude
that is looks like he's you know like a biker with an electric cattle prod he's cussing and
freaking out the whole time and if he catches you he's going to kick your butt and so so we're dodging him. We're trying to turn on these generators. We have to get through
this locked door. So we have to go find a key that's buried inside a corpse somewhere. I mean,
these are the little things that you're doing on the minute-to-minute basis.
Now, another thing that this game does in the you're never safe category is you would think, I'll just hide under the desk.
I'll hide inside this locker.
Yeah, sure.
Except that there's probably some creepy dude already hiding in there.
And when you go to open up the door, he freaking jumps out at you and starts pummeling you in the face, screaming at you.
That's got me so much.
Dude, I can't tell you.
We'd be playing and you just hear somebody go like,
and then it's like, oh, that guy was in that barrel, man.
He jumped out and grabbed me or something like that.
I mean, they just never ease up on this.
But for the moment-to-moment gameplay,
that's kind of the nuts and bolts, right?
Is make your way through these levels,
outrun or out hide the
people that are stalking you dodge the enemy npcs because there are there's always like the main boss
or like the psycho of the level but there's also these like npc characters that just kind of wander
around and if they see you they can definitely jack you up but they're not quite as scary as like
the the the main killer for that level they They're not going to hunt you out.
Exactly.
Yeah.
If you get out of sight, they kind of just give up quicker and stuff like that as well.
But they definitely are there.
The other thing that I'll touch on is in the levels, the longer you take, the more bad guys start to show up.
So you will hear this kind of ominous alarm sound.
Yeah.
And then that means another bad guy is coming into the level and it's like dude
so you can't just take your good old sweet time because it's going to get harder and harder the
longer you take on something like this so yeah i know when when we would get stuck and then we'd
hear and we're like oh no another guy we'd start running and or you're in a room we're trying to do
something and then you hear the alarm and then you look and it's like there's doors in that room that now open up and you're like, right, get out of here. It's not safe
anymore. Oh man. So to kind of just give you a rundown of some of the other levels, we're not
going to dive into all these, but you know, I'll give you the names and the kind of the quick
synopsis of one. So the first level is kill the snitch. These are in no particular order after this,
but there is cleanse the orphans.
So that's tamper with some radio broadcasts and videos that these creepy
mannequin kids are watching in their classrooms.
And you have to swap the reels to this like brainwash footage or something.
That's honestly kind of creepy in and of itself.
You have to prepare a gruesome communion after that. I know the second we saw the cleanse the
orphans, we were like, oh, no, they wouldn't. They wouldn't do that, would they? And they do.
They do. Another one is vindicate the guilty. This is the trial slash courtroom one where you have to destroy evidence and then murder a witness yeah in a in a deadly courthouse trial who wants a witness around
where's the evidence oh where's the evidence josh yeah i mean and then there's the um there's the
grind the bad apples this is where you have to grind up naughty children in a dental health
themed fairground water ride.
So this takes place in kind of this weird amusement park,
creepy thing.
And you're just,
that's the one with the pipes,
right?
Where we had the one with the pipes.
Okay.
So this is two with what we're talking about,
about in game puzzles.
So where to get the breakers or,
or the,
the plumbing going,
I think it was the plumbing,
like to get the boat through the area, we had to follow the pipes.
And there'd be like three or four decoys where you get psychosis spray and you'd freak out and then some guy would run after you if you hit the wrong one.
So you have to actually follow the right colored pipe.
You're yellow.
You have to follow yellow pipe, watch the bends, go all the way to the right the right one turn the right valve and then you can move on to the next area but if you hit the wrong ones
you're screwed man like they're coming after you so that's what we mean when we say there's kind of
these weird in-game puzzles but all that's happening while some crazy character is chasing
you yeah you're never safe ever like that's honestly the thing in this game until you make
it out of the trial and that's where the thing in this game until you make it
out of the trial. And that's where you get to kind of breathe that sigh of relief. But even then,
then, you know, chances are probably got a bad grade and now they just mock you for getting a D
on the trials after that. Um, so, uh, you know, another stage is pervert, the Futterman. This is
the horrible turn this guy into a living mannequin one. That one might have disturbed me more
than any of the other ones, to be honest.
That one was pretty rough, for sure.
You know, and then there's the
it's called Poison the Medicine,
which is where we basically have to make drugs
and then put poison in them and then
ship them across the world. So
yeah, these levels
are not nice.
It's pretty intense for sure. So So Ryan, you know, you can't
fight in this game. You can only run, you can only hide. You do get some abilities and we're
going to get to those in just a second that allow you at least a moment of like reprieve or at least
the chance at getting away or stunning somebody or something like that.
But there's like, you touched on this. There's no fighting back. There's no, let me kill this guy.
Now I'm safe. Let me hit him with a baseball bat. There is none of that in this game.
They do this intentionally, but I want to ask you because there's going to be people that'd be like,
well, wouldn't it be more fun if we can fight back, right? Like if I could kill that NPC that's chasing me or something like that.
Do you enjoy the sense of helplessness that this game puts out there? Because I think they do it
on purpose. And I think the purpose is for you to feel helpless. Like you cannot stand up to
these guys. And I think that lends itself to the overall feeling of this game but did you think that that was a smart
move as far as the gameplay aspect goes i think that's one of the biggest parts of the game i
think that not having that ability to fight back because otherwise all right let's just wreck these
guys you know what do we have to do to gang up and kill kill whoever and then we can go about
our business throughout there that takes away all the suspense
all the chaos all the panic you know there's one mission where you're almost in like a carnival
and you have to hit these carnival games and you're you're picking up hearts out of a big vat
and you take the hearts and you got to throw them through like these hoops and do these different
things throughout these areas and uh it's it's just wild and so you're trying to accomplish that well guys are chasing after
you and trying to kill you so there's always somebody like running from something you know
a lot of times i'll just be like i'll kite them away i'll kite them away and i'll just run off
because i'd heal and i'll kite them while you guys would flip the breakers or do whatever so having that factor in each
mission in each level is what made the game what it is i think like otherwise it just it wouldn't
be the same like it's it's nice to have the stuns to lock them up for a second but they're still
coming right after you when you know when they when they unlock and so yeah i think that was
brilliant i think it created so much tension and stress on every single level. And they were always different how they came at you and what characters came at you. So I think they did a really good job on how they created that kind of artificial just stress and tension and panic. Even when you didn't need to panic, you're like, I got to get these off. Before you hear somebody come in or run in
and there's glass everywhere
that you can't step on and then there's
cans
hanging in the air. There's all kinds of sound
traps. There's all kinds of sound traps
and they even track it. That's what goes into
the factory. Josh mentioned our grade.
Depending on what you do
and how many times you're alerted and
caught and attacked and all these things, you get a grade at the end.
So you're trying to watch out for all that.
You're trying to watch out for the attackers.
You're trying to accomplish your mission.
There's so much in it.
It's a whirlwind from start to finish.
It's not casual gaming.
It's not one where you can sit back and relax as you play.
You've got to be on point the whole mission for sure.
Yeah.
I will say I love the fact that they made it intentional where you can't fight back.
Because a lot of the terror in this game is the fact that you are helpless.
You can't stand up to these guys.
You have to run.
And so when they show up while you're trying to do something,'s terrifying because you have this thing you're trying to do and now you have to stop
run away hide hope that they don't find you hope that they don't kill your buddy because if one of
your party dies you need to go res them or they're just out for the for the trial you know as far as
that goes so they do give you items that will allow you to res somebody but it takes a long time and there's pretty good chance that you're getting, you're getting seen
while you're trying to pull that off at the same time. I, I know that in the levels, when we were
playing the game, there were times where we were frustrated that we couldn't fight back, but it
adds to the game immensely in that regard, as far as really creating that sense of horror,
that sense of tension, uh, and dread as far as that goes when you're playing this.
So, all right, Ryan, we did touch on it. I want to talk about the abilities because this game
does have some progression to it. It does give you some tools on how to get through these trials
and things like that. So I want to dive into that quickly, but we're going to take
one more quick break before we do that. And then we'll come back. We'll talk about the abilities
and kind of the upgrade path on this game. And then we'll give our overall thoughts on it as
well. We'll do that right after the short break. All right, we are back. Ryan, I will say one of
the things that I really enjoyed about this, you know, I love me some abilities, you know, I love me some skill trees and upgrades and things like that.
The game does give you some tools.
So after you beat like the first trial, you kind of level up, you get these tickets that you can spend back at the home base.
They tell you to go talk to the engineer.
You go talk to this guy that you never noticed before.
And lo and behold, the guy says, hey, I can give you this rig that you can use while you're in the trial.
And the rig kind of does different things. Um, I know when we were playing with ACE,
we kind of diversified. I went, Ooh, I want this stun grenade that says it'll stun somebody so that
if we're getting chased by the killer, we can stun them. And then we have about two,
maybe three seconds to get away and hide but at least it was something i know you went with the barrier that lets you kind of barricade a door which doesn't sound that glorious but can be
pretty darn handy especially if you're getting some moments there were some moments yeah and
then ace kind of went well the i'm going to be the team doctor. I'm going to go with this AoE heal ability that you can get as well. There were some other ones, but I'll be
honest, I don't remember what they were. None of us picked it. So they probably didn't sound that
good. Yeah. But the abilities do at least give you the option of kind of using a little strategery,
as I like to say. They're on very long cooldowns. So for me
to throw my stun grenade means I probably don't have it again for three or four minutes.
But I like that they gave you something to work with. And I like that they gave you the ability
to upgrade it and kind of unlock new things. So for me, the stun grenade, I could enhance the
duration. I could enhance where if I threw the stun grenade on the ground, it would charge everybody's batteries and things like that. So the game does kind of give you the
option of saying, Hey, play a little bit how you want. It's really not going to make a huge
difference, but at least you have something. And it's funny because in a game like this,
it's like, Oh man, thank goodness. I got like, it may only work for a second, but at least I have
something. Yeah. It was like, it a second, but at least I have something.
Yeah, it was almost like the oasis in the desert when you start to upgrade a little bit of these.
I know originally I started with the barricade.
There was some points that it definitely came in handy
to where I tried to put a guy in a back area.
You can barricade the door, then they can't get through,
and then it has to recharge for a while while i found myself not needing it as much and i followed suit with ace to where
i just went to the healing because it just it made such a difference when you guys are all down and
out everybody's hurting hard we're running we're stretching a little long on a mission and uh we
got no heels at all you just pop that bad boy and heal up. So it does. It's that
just kind of relief in the desert to where, okay, we can breathe for a sec. Let's try this again.
Yeah, I did like that. So you get the equipment that you can use, but then you discover this
after you complete another trial. But there's also a pharmacist that can medically enhance
you through the use of pharmaceuticals to unlock abilities for your character specifically maybe
that's the ability to slide so you can kind of slide under a little sweet a little area i know
i picked the one that let me just barge through a door instead of having to stop and open it oh
what a surprise yeah i know um there were things like where you can save so you
can assist your fellow uh test subjects if they're getting their butts kicked by one of these npc
guys you can kind of run up and kick the npc off of them but that takes all your stamina so now you
can't run away very easily um so you know there's a perk where it's like you don't get exhausted by
helping one of your friends or something like that.
So all that to say that there are upgrade paths in this game and the game does kind of dangle that carrot in front of you, which I really appreciated.
I will say that with the length of the game and the length of the trials that it was almost a little bit too late in the game for some of that stuff where it's like there's some
serious upgrade paths but it's like i've already beaten all the trials maybe we ran it another
time or two on a harder difficulty but like am i really gonna spend you know a hundred hours
unlocking everything yeah you know and and i think for me that was kind of like the i like it but i
don't know that it was implemented in the best way, according to like the length of the game itself, I suppose.
So one thing that I am sure of is my sheer and utter dominance.
Oh, here we go.
Of the mini games that I play.
So you do have a hub area.
This is like it's basically looks like a prison.
Let's be honest. You have your rooms and this is like it's basically looks like a prison let's be honest
you have your rooms and there's like the the main area there's two tables one has a chess board one
is an arm wrestling table they are full-fledged mini games like i actually whooped a couple people
at chess um and it's full chess i mean it's it's just like playing chess online all right that's
all there is to say about that and then no no no no no the other table
is arm wrestling the arm wrestling game is a kind of timing based game where it just spins around in
a circle uh and you have to try to stop the pointer or click when the pointer is on a certain color
and if you can do that really well your guy will get the advantage in the arm wrestling
ryan why don't you tell how many times did i did i defeat
you handily was it six i think it was six oh i got no i think it was more than that was it really
i don't remember honestly i've locked it out just like at least like 10 times there was not 10
i'm pretty sure it was at least also also you were playing you know pc master race with your
keyboard i was on controller i'm at a disadvantage
do you know how many people play video games with a controller and have to push a button on time
i will say this this is the funniest thing to me because i destroyed you you did every single arm
wrestling match but the best part about it was because this is going on in the main hub area
people can come over and watch and at one
point we were arm wrestling and we had like six people that were standing around the table and
then they can start beating on the table and then that's when the pressure really gets to
that's i think that's the one it was one of those where i had you three uh three like it it puts
like a fist on the screen as you click it, depending on what color you hit.
The darker the color, like from like white to red, you know, the better it is, I guess you would say.
So I had like three orange fists and then I just went miss, miss, miss.
And I had Josh almost all the way down and he went all the way back and just beat me right in front of everybody.
It was over the top.
Maybe turn my hat backwards. you know yep and then i just got picked on in the in the pen forever and then
sit back that's true yeah everybody was mocking you for losing horribly so yeah that's when i
wish paul was there because he's really good at those games and i wish he was there to uh
to just humble you because you got a little too full he wasn't and i am the reigning undefeated
well i will say this too i did play some other people in the game, some randos,
and I whooped all of them, too.
Yeah.
You're just too good, man.
So anyway, all that to say, there is a hub area.
There are a few activities in that hub area.
It's kind of a neat little thing where you can change your character's appearance,
play some minigames, look at other people, see a leaderboard.
I thought that was cool that they had a leaderboard.
And it was like old school where you would like shutter down with the tiles to kind of
change it and stuff,
which was neat.
And then also screw all those workers,
man.
They kept talking to me.
Like,
I'm just kind of like,
they're helping me.
And I'm like,
you keep sending me out to die.
Like they're like,
Oh,
this rehabilitation is so good for you.
You know?
No,
yeah,
no,
they don't,
they don't care about you. None. So no. Yeah, no, they don't. They don't care about you.
None.
So, all right.
Graphics and audio.
This game looks fantastic.
I mean, I think this is one of the things
that stood out to me is like,
wait a minute,
somebody's making a horror game
and they're actually making it
with really good graphics.
Dude, these graphics are top notch.
The audio is really good.
You hear all the creepy sounds
you hear when you walk over glass
and now you've alerted somebody. You hear your teammates getting their butts whooped. You know, somebody jumped out
and hit Ace with a machete. Boy, I heard that, you know, while I'm running around for my life
and things like that as well. So, you know, I will say that those stood out to me as positives
for this game. I don't know that I've seen a better looking horror game that kind of goes
to the lengths that this game does.
Really enhances the
cutting off somebody's legs or
stuffing poison drugs into a corpse
because they don't hold back
on any of that stuff, man. They do not.
That's for sure.
Alright, Ryan, it's
time. We're going to get into our overall
thoughts on this game.
We are.
Find out what it does well, what it doesn't do well.
But we have a very special guest.
Is there somebody here?
That is joining us.
The one, the only Ace of Shame, fantastic friend of the show.
Honestly, good friends of ours at this point.
Ace has been with us a long time.
I can say this without a shadow of a doubt. Absolutely consider Ace a very good friend.
We play games together all the time. Absolutely enjoy that. So one of my favorite things from
doing this podcast is the people that we get to meet. And Ace is one of those fantastic people.
So because Ace played this game with us from start to finish and got to experience all this, we wanted to bring him on the show. Ace, how you doing, buddy?
I am doing great. I'm still recovering from the trauma this game has inflicted on me.
Now, I got to ask you, Ace, because you have heard this episode up to this point.
Is there anything that you disagree with that you agree with is there
something just so clutch that you can't believe we didn't mention it about this game um anything
that you think that we should have brought up or want to talk about before we get into kind of our
overall thoughts on this so the only thing that's really standing out to me is the insanity mechanic. You didn't bring up that you go crazy.
Yes.
Oh, yes.
I'm so glad you brought this up, Ace.
Like the Skinner man that you see when you go completely insane and then you're just running constantly.
Tell people about the psychosis because these bad guys in this game, they'll just hack you with a machete.
You know, you can definitely die from just getting killed.
But there are other NPCs in this game
that if they catch you,
they will spray you with psychosis gas
and cause instant psychosis.
But there's also kind of times
where your psychosis meter
just kind of slowly builds up over the game.
But Ace, why don't you do your best to explain what psychosis does in this game?
Because I'm with you.
I think it's absolutely fantastic.
And it leads to some really great moments.
So psychosis, you have three bars.
And when you have all three bars, you're healthy.
If you lose even one of those bars by, you know, stepping on a gas mine or opening a
chest because, you know, nothing is safe.
Ooh, what's in here?
You get sprayed in the face with psychosis gas.
Suddenly, every now and then, things may not be what they seem anymore, and you'll open
a door to a shadowy, jittering figure who will run straight into your face and make
you scream, and all your friends will look at you like what's wrong with you there was nothing dude the skin so when you go into psychosis you hallucinate
and you see this guy called the skinner man and the skinner man hunts you yeah picture like uh
uh scarecrow and batman remember the gas oh yeah boom that's what it's like boom you get the
scarecrow guy you say that so nonchalantly, Ryan,
because let me tell you,
when the Skinner man shows up, you know it.
Here's the problem.
Ace, you touched on it.
When you go into full psychosis,
you have to just run for your life.
Like the Skinner man is chasing you.
If he's looking at you, you lose health.
He will find you wherever you're hiding.
So you basically just run through this level
like your life would depend on it
and you forget about everything else.
And you have to do that for probably a solid 30 seconds
before the psychosis wears off.
But Ace, you touched on this
and I think this is where I jumped the hardest in this game
was when you have like one bar missing of the sanity meter
and then occasionally,
randomly,
you'll just be turning around and look at something.
And then the freaking Skinner man just bolts out at you like a bat out of
heck and scares you half to death.
It is the worst man.
Yeah.
I mean,
I know there's moments where all of us just went,
I have psychosis.
See you later.
Yeah.
Just started trucking through the level.
It was such a common thing that that one guy would step out of the elevator, grab someone and just start spraying them.
And then you just see that person run by like, I got to get out of here.
The skin is coming.
You see them go crazy is like if you're if you see that happen to them, they kind of like grab their head.
They're kind of character.
Oh, yeah.
And you just got to run.
You're just running because you can't stay still.
You can't be stagnant.
You just have to run to get away.
And that's what it is.
You have that guy.
He's there.
He's ready to get you.
And he can actually do damage.
It's not just all in your head at that point.
Once you get to that level, you just got to move.
Yeah. I do remember trying to hide in a barrel from the skinner man and i looked up because i was
terrified number one so i'm looking down and then i look at my camera and i see him just standing
over the barrel looking down at me and my health just plummeting and then i was like i gotta get
out of here jump out of the barrel and take off again so yeah you you can't hide from the skinner
man he he's knows where you are.
Look at this idiot.
What is he doing in this barrel?
I love it, Ace.
I'm so glad you brought that up
because the psychosis in this game has done so well
and it's so prevalent at the same time.
You guys, you touched on it.
You open up a medicine cabinet
thinking you're going to get a heal
and you look too long.
Boom, psychosis gas to the face.
And the worst is when you're there and then
all they have is like a recharge or just a battery and you're looking for something else you're
looking for like some health or uh or syringe or something and then you open it up and then
you wait a little bit too long and then you get hit with that gas it's so frustrating because
you're always looking for different materials.
They are scarce in this game.
It's hard to get certain things.
And then there are antidotes.
So there's stuff that you can take to kind of relieve that psychosis.
So we're always looking for that too.
Sometimes when you're looking, you get hit with more.
And you get hit with more gas.
And you're like, oh, come on.
Yeah, this game is not nice to you. So, all right, what I want to do, uh, I don't want to spend too long on this, but I want
to hear from all of us. We'll start with ACE, uh, as, as the, uh, as the guest here, but ACE,
I want to know kind of what are your overall thoughts? I mean, like I said, you played every
match with us in this game. We beat the game. You can continue to play and up the difficulty and all that. But we played through every trial. We, you know, we fiddled around with all of the different stuff you can do. But what does this game do right, in your opinion? And is there an area where you think it could have done something a little bit better so first thing like with what this game does right is it very much still captures
that feeling of outlast while being this multiplayer experience like it is still messed up as heck and
it it feeds on that fear of humanity's like ingenuity and what could go wrong kind of like
a saw version of umbrella corporation yeah that's how i would put it
the uh murkoff institute or whatever they're called yeah absolutely and like that's just
something always impressive now to me is when a multiplayer game is still in a multiplayer
horror game is still managed to be scary with your friends that means it's doing it right
yeah and you have actually played the atlas. Unlike Ryan and myself, you have played.
Did you do Outlast 1 and 2?
Just the first one. Just one of them?
Just like half of the first one, and I got so scared
because I ran out of battery on the camcorder,
and I couldn't see in the dark anymore.
And I was just in a room by myself.
You do have night vision in this game,
and if your night vision battery runs out,
you can still kind of sort of see um
thankfully but it really you you're pretty blind it's like that point it's like two feet instead
of 10 feet yeah like it's kind of see you can kind of get away through the area but you can't
like really see where you're going you know as well oh yeah you'll still walk into people yeah
yeah absolutely so you know having played this you know
you're you're a little bit more familiar than we are with the atlas games they it seems like they
really stayed true to their lane as far as you know developing this game and turning it into a
multiplayer game is there a part of this game that you kind of went man i just wish they had done
this part better i'm not gonna say it's the settings i think all
the settings are super unique and it just didn't feel very connected i guess like it makes you feel
in the beginning like there's this story that's going to be happening and you're going to go
through this story with your friends and then it ends up being you know it's all separated in a
separate trials or different rooms and then you get to the end not to be spoilery but like it just it's fine because this is the right part it just ends and you're
just like that's it like yeah no like concrete ending like even both outlast games had like
endings now all three of us we beat all the trials we puttered around in the hub area we played the
mini games
and then i remember we all kind of went cool that was a lot of fun see you guys later and then we
hopped on discord in just a chat and we were both like ryan i think you said it was me yeah yeah and
you were like that was kind of anti-climatic and we and ace and i both went yeah it's just over
yeah it was just like that that was it i'm like it's so the last mission
kind of almost felt like the first mission like it was crazy it was chaos it was uh substantial
with what you had to do but there was no finality to it there was no okay this was what the story
you know unfolds to you know there was. It was just kind of another just mission.
I will say that the game technically does have an ending.
Once you beat all of the trials,
you can then do the final trial.
And it's really just a mix of all the trials
that you just did already.
So it's almost like a run through of all of the levels.
And if you beat that, they let you free
and let you out of the facility.
Um, even though you're not really free at that point. Um, but they do try to give you some kind
of wrap up, but it's pretty lame in my opinion. Um, for me, I think what this game does fantastic
is really just lean into the horror. I don't know that I've played a game that is willing to embrace
the horror elements more than this game has. Um um as far as what it could have done better i'm with you a hundred
percent ace i wanted it maybe this is a good thing but i wanted more i wanted more levels
i wanted more missions i wanted more bad guys i wanted to upgrade my abilities and things like
that but because there's only the six trials,
I kind of was just left wanting more.
And I think that's where that feeling like it was anticlimactic because it
was just like,
well,
that was a lot of fun,
but fun's over now,
guys,
I guess we're onto the next game.
Yeah.
A hundred percent.
I left.
What about you?
Yeah,
exactly.
And that may not be a bad thing because I know that they're continuing to develop this game.
And so they probably will release more trials.
Like the one with the drugs,
that was their latest trial.
Like if you search, Google search,
how many trials are there?
Almost every site says, well, there's five trials.
Well, there's actually six
because they released a new trial recently.
Oh, wow.
But Ryan, what about you?
What works for you?
What doesn't work for you?
So that drug running trial was the sixth trial.
Yeah.
Oh, yeah.
That's the newest one that was not there.
They actually only had three trials at release.
And so you can tell that they've released more trials since then.
Jeez.
Well, I'm glad we got it when we did because, um, I would have been definitely let down
if there was only three.
I think the things that worked for me was just um being able
to play co-op with people enhance that situation so much more like being able to just have that
fear running getting people to come over and help you getting people to lead a guy off to this area
so you could accomplish this part of the task you know
that stuff is what really i love the uh uh collaboration you know within a mission you
know that that part really set with me i i think again with like you guys i just i wish there was
just a little bit more i wish there was a little more depth to it. I, I, not to say that these missions don't have a lot to do,
but you kind of do them and then there's no,
really not much more after that.
So I just wish there was a more,
we could have done.
I think if they could have paced the progression a little better,
it's hard to do,
I guess with six missions or tasks or whatever.
But,
uh,
if they got to pace that a little better,
that would have been good as well.
But overall is pretty solid.
Yeah.
All right.
Well,
we're going to find out how solid it is because we're going to our leaderboard
to find out where we want to rank this game.
And that will kind of give people an idea of what we think about it.
And Ace is going to do it with us.
Even though Ace doesn't have a leaderboard, he's been listening to the show long enough.
He knows where we rank games.
He knows how we do it.
So we have tasked Ace with throwing a score at this game.
So you know what, Ace?
Let's go ahead.
Let's start with you on this.
If you were to rank this game, if you were to say, hey, this is my rating for
this game, where would you rate it? And I know that you don't have 100 games that you've covered
on the show with us, but you've been with us for so long now, you kind of know, you know,
how we do this anyway. So where would you rank this game? What would be the rating that you
would give it? So I've done some thinking and i i could not find lethal company on the
leaderboard by the way oh whoops whoops yeah paul wasn't us but uh everything the outlast trials
does right it does like so perfectly right and it encapsulates like these different types of
horror like you have psychological horror you've got some jump scare horror you definitely have it does like so perfectly right. And it encapsulates like these different types of horror.
Like you have a psychological horror.
You've got some jump scare horror.
You definitely have body horror.
Yeah.
And honestly,
mother gooseberry alone puts it into like a seven high seven for me,
at least 7.9,
7.9 for you.
Yeah.
Who we are very close ace.
I can tell you that.
So she's so scary.
She's so scary. She's so scary.
I would say Ryan has probably played the fewest horror games out of all of us.
If I had to rate this, Ace, I know you've played a lot.
I would say I've probably played the second most,
and then Ryan is probably the least experienced with horror games.
So, Ryan, where would you put this on your leaderboard?
I had so much fun playing this game.
I thoroughly enjoyed myself.
I was always looking for the next time we could hop on and play more
and see what the one thing, and I just want to say this for a sec.
As crazy as I thought the next section would be,
they always outdid my anticipation.
They always outdid what i thought
it was gonna be the the the sex doll one again we're not family show today so that blew my mind
i'm like is this really happening so so it was just it was one thing after another and for these
types of games when they're when they're scary like this blood and guts and gore
don't scare me that much it's the suspense horror it's the calm silence before an exploding storm
that that gets me every time but uh for this i still thoroughly enjoyed it i absolutely love
this game i thought we had an absolute blast playing it. I'm going to give it an 8.1.
8.1. It's in the 8s.
I think it is an absolute solid game.
I think that everyone should check it
out if you love even a little bit of
horror or scary
stuff. This is so much fun.
I can't. Okay.
Just so people know, we do not share how
we're going to rate a game before the show.
I am also giving this game an 8.1.
Yeah.
It is my first 8.1.
I don't have one of those on my leaderboard, but I was very impressed with this game.
Yeah, dude.
I would recommend it to just about anybody that is over the age of 18.
Yeah.
In that regard. I was quite, quite impressed with almost
every aspect of this game. Now it's a short game. We talked about it as kind of, we got,
we were left wanting more. And I think that's kind of the biggest drawback to this, but sometimes
that's a good thing, man. Not every game needs to be a live service game.
They're kind of still developing this game. You know, they call it live service with an end,
which I think is kind of a neat take, but I'm also with you ACE is that I really wish they had just wrapped it up and put a bow on it at the end. You know what? You completed all these
trials. We've been promising you your freedom. Let me out. Let me have my freedom. I earned it.
You know, it doesn't mean I'm going to have a good life, but they could have put the bow on it at the end and just called it.
And people would have come back to it when they released new levels and stuff like that.
It's an 8.1 for me. I don't think that this is like a legendary, oh my goodness,
everybody in the world needs to play it. But that said, everybody that likes horror should
absolutely play this game.
It is bananas.
We've been saying that from the beginning.
I cannot think of a more memorable in a bad way kind of game.
It's just one of those things where it's going to stick with you, right?
I always say, am I going to talk about this game a year from now?
And Outlast Trials is absolutely one of those games where if somebody's like,
dude,
I'm looking for something different,
maybe horror genre.
I'm going to be like,
Ooh,
Ooh,
you want to play something really crazy?
Like,
Oh man,
you got to pick up Outlast Trials.
That game's nuts.
You know?
And so I think that's going to be in my like game recommendation cabinet,
so to speak.
So yeah,
8.1 for me.
I really enjoyed this game.
Ryan, you touched on it too
it you have to have friends to play with you have to share this experience don't think it would be
the same it will match make you but i don't think it's the same if you're not on a discord call
screaming for help buddies and getting jump scared and stuff like that too so i gotta especially
especially when uh you know we're we're packing drugs in a body and he's like he's
like get out of the way hold on i'm almost done and we're just shoving cocaine or whatever
laced with poison and some somebody's cavity in their chest you know and then we're running off
it's just nothing nothing else is like it yeah well ace you said this game makes you really
happy inside i can't whatever i'm just so happy Is that what I heard? I'm just so happy. No, not the game itself. I'm just so happy to see a horror game could
get this reaction of joy and cooperation.
It doesn't happen often, man. It really doesn't. But they nailed, they absolutely nailed what they
set out to do on this game. And I'll be honest, as mature and gruesome as this game was, I love,
I love the fact that they just leaned into it and said
dude if we're making it we're making it the way we're gonna do it we're not scared of ratings
we're not scared of what people are gonna say about it you signed up for this and you're getting
what you signed up for and to me that was the best thing about like just playing this game is like
they weren't scared yeah like way to go man like you
know you knew what you people wanted and you gave it to them in that regard so awesome well that
about wraps up this episode i want to say thank you ace for coming on the show with us uh thanks
for playing this with us too it really was awesome to have you just there alongside
us to uh share in the horror and the laughter and the watching me get my butt kicked rezzing ryan a
few times ace died the least out of all of us by the way and consistently had the highest score
in the trial yeah so apparently he knows what he's doing in these kinds of games. So kudos to you, Ace, for that.
But also thanks for coming on the show and joining us and kind of just giving another perspective on the game as well.

And just for a little teaser, as a little surprise for
everybody, our next episode is going to be our early impressions of Black Ops 6. Ryan and I dove
in, we beat the campaign, we're playing the multiplayer, and we are going to break down
our thoughts on that as well. This is only my second ever Call of Duty game. So as a noob to the franchise, I'll have some thoughts on that.
Get rekt, noob!
That's not too
far from the truth.
I'm struggling with this
Omni movement thing, man. I'm an old man.
Omni what?
So for Ryan, for myself,
and for the one and only Ace of Shame,
thank you for joining us, and until
next time, happy gaming.
Peace out.
See ya!
