Hello, fellow gamers, and welcome to the Video Gamers podcast.
The debate over Friends Slop games rages on.
Are they fun?
Yes.
Are they dumb and stupid and made with minimal effort?
Also, yes.
But that's not the topic for today.
Today, we're talking about the latest party game to hit the gaming world.
Big walk.
What the heck do you do?
Is it really a lot of walking?
and talking, and most importantly, is it fun?
Well, we're about to break it all down, but first, some introductions are in order.
I am your perpetually lost host, Josh, and joining me, he was definitely the bard of our
group, belting out classics like Creed and Nickelback during our adventures.
It's Ryan.
Can you take me higher?
That was on the spot.
I was not warmed up.
I just,
I just want to let everybody know.
And you didn't have your megaphone.
I didn't have my megaphone.
You know,
the humidity and stuff.
Like,
but I've been told I'm a combination of Fergie and Jesus,
but whatever.
And joining us,
prone to running off on his own,
disappearing for long stretches and being an overachiever on puzzles.
It's a.
Oh, sorry, guys, I'm not close enough to hear you.
I'm just going to have to email it over here.
Banging on the glass.
Ding, ding, ding, ding, ding, ding, ding, ding.
Oh, guys, we had so many dumb moments in this game.
God is so awesome.
Excuse me, everyone.
Let me just go place this tea kettle on this elevation.
We'll have to get it.
All these dumb moments have just made it so, like, uh, like obvious how much this is ruining gaming.
For sure.
Well, no, these are party games.
Party games are great.
Oh, that's true.
Oh, yeah.
Oh, my mistake.
My mistake.
This is party games.
All right.
This is good then.
So Big Walk, you know, people are like, wait, you guys are covering this?
Yes, this game just released.
We wanted to jump into this.
You know, it's getting brave reviews.
You know, I don't know.
I think it's selling like hotcakes right now, too.
500,000 copies within the first week.
Woo!
And 500,000 copies of Big Walk.
Okay.
And one of you look up the rating what this is,
because I have a feeling it's pretty positively rated already as well.
So we were thinking, look, we want to try this out.
This is a game that I'll be honest.
We, you know, we've talked about before.
The three of us even said, I don't know, guys, like 93%.
That's pretty darn good.
6,000 reviews.
Yeah, that's pretty darn good.
So anytime a game comes out, starts to catch Steam like this.
we want to jump in.
We try to cover this so that we have an idea, is it good?
That way you guys out there can decide if this game is worth your time and your money.
We also had two community nights where we got the crew together to play Big Walk.
You can play up to 12 people on this game.
So it is conducive to a large group of people.
Unfortunately, the second time we played, we had like 18 people that wanted to play.
And we unfortunately had to go like, we're sorry, we're full.
but we are here.
We filtered in a little bit.
They did.
They did.
They did.
Yeah.
People in a little bit.
Yep.
Yep.
So we are here to talk about Big Walk.
We're going to cover what this game is, what it does the best way we can.
We did try to play this just the three of us.
We didn't actually get to do that for very long.
Yeah.
It didn't last very long.
So in all transparency, most of our experience with Big Walk is with a large group of people.
But the gameplay is going to.
basically stay the same. So if you like what you hear and you've got a small group of people,
you'll probably still enjoy this game. But we're going to break it all down for you.
So, um, Ryan, we always like to do this because what was your expectation going into Big Walk?
Because again, we always like to say, hey, I didn't think I was going to like this or I was really
hype for this. And I think how you approach a game does matter, um, to how it can be received sometimes.
So what was your expectation going into Big Walk?
I tried to remember when I like originally first saw Big Walk and like what we like I remember seeing like stuff like a long time ago like about it.
And I was like, I don't what?
You just you just walk around and I'm like those characters look ridiculous and they look weird.
And you know, like what are they?
What are we going to do?
And I still don't really honestly know.
we're going to do, but we just, we just walk and we walk big baby, you know, that's what we do.
So, yeah, like my first initial impressions of, of what I thought it was going to be were just,
you know, just a big kind of social experiment where you all just get together and have to
solve puzzles and do stuff. And, and it kind of turned out to be that way, mostly.
Ace, what about you? What was your hope or expectation going into Big Walk?
My expectation for Big Walk was actually, it was kind of big.
Ah, there you go.
I see what you did.
There is.
Because it comes to the developers of the entitled Goose game, which I vastly enjoyed.
It was a great little game on the Nintendo Switch, especially, especially when they added
to the co-op.
It was a great time.
So I knew these developers could make a good, sort of cozy, simple game.
But I was very interested to see how they would evolve the simple concept of just walking and talking,
which is the whole point of Big Walk.
And they said it from the beginning.
What you do in this game is, you do in this game is.
you'll walk and you talk
and you'll find different ways to walk and talk
to each other and that's basically what the game is
so I was pretty excited for Big Walk
and the thing where you remember it Ryan is we showed it in an indie episode
last year and everyone
everyone looked at it was like
I don't know I don't know
Yeah because we're like what do you do it's just a game
where you hang out
You just hang out and talk to each other
Yeah and I remember thinking like this sounds boring
Is it like VR chat like what are we doing
Like I'm not a furry
Like what?
I have phantom pan.
You can't walk through me.
That's, you can't walk through me.
I did not have big expectations for this.
I'm not going to lie.
I think most people probably know, like, you know, this doesn't seem like my kind of game.
No.
I thought it looked weird.
I thought it looked boring.
At one point, you know, if you're watching the developers talk about it, you know,
one guy just sits on a stump all night long, you know, and his friends coming
find them the next morning.
I didn't,
my expectations for this were very,
very low.
Like legitimately,
I thought I was going to wind up hating this game after playing it.
But again,
we like to challenge ourselves and we are here for the people.
So we thought,
okay,
let's do this.
But I went into this with very low expectations.
All right.
What the heck do you do in Big Walk?
Well,
I kind of said it,
man.
You walk and you talk.
And along that way...
No, Ace, but I mean, like, what do you do? Like, wait, how do you just walk and talk in a game?
I was going to get to it. You walk and you talk and you solve puzzles.
But like, what do you do? Is you walk and you talk?
Yes. You walk and you talk. No. No, Ace, but that's, okay. That's not a game though.
But it can be a game. And it is a game. Because that's what you do in Big Walk as you walk and you talk.
90% of this game is going to be walking and talking.
There will also be puzzles in which you will no longer be able to talk to one another.
So you will have to hand signal or do some other fun stuff.
The whole thing is finding different ways to communicate with your friends or whoever you're playing with.
I don't know if this game has public lobbies.
I don't know.
Actually, you don't know that.
Because it's either host or join.
I don't know if there's public.
Yeah, I have no idea if there's public lobbies.
It would also, I'm not sure this.
game lends itself to like because think about it if you load in because one of the challenges that
we had was if somebody dropped out and somebody else loaded in you load in at the starting point yep
and you have to go get that person you have no idea where somebody is like does not have public
lobbies okay but that makes sense then you gotta have friends for big walk all right oh man sorry half
of you know yeah but hey if you need friends we know a place server with lots of friends we got we know a place
where you can have gaming friends.
And we tested that with this game.
And like I said, we had a lot of people hopping in and playing this.
We tested a lot of things with this game.
Initial, very initial impression.
So you basically join a game or you host a game.
And then you join and the game drops you into this little hallway and to the beginning
area where you kind of just learn the controls and what you can do.
You can move both arms individually.
You can grab things.
You can kick things to throw them.
and you can point at things.
You can jump, crouch, slide,
pick people up and pick up objects.
That's about the extent of like the mechanics in this game.
It uses proximity chat and the game does a giant warning
that says do not use Discord or or you know,
voice over IP.
This is not what this game was designed for.
You will ruin the experience.
I 1,000% agree with you.
that. Absolutely. One thousand percent
agree with that. If you were in
Discord with people talking,
you were not experiencing Big Walk
the way that Big Walk was intended to be. And you're not going to have
fun. No, and you're nullifying like half
the puzzles. Yeah. Just by doing that
alone. Yes. Yep. So this is one
where trust the developers in this case, when they say
don't use Discord, only
use the in-game voiceover IP,
they mean it. And we are here to
confirm that that is the way this game should be played
because you will just basically ruin the game
at that point. Initially,
impressions. Very initial. We're in the game. We've tested out the mechanics. We're leaving the
beginning area. Like, what are your thoughts as far as like, okay. Well, I guess we're in this now.
My thoughts are, oh, this is weird. This is real weird. I don't know about this. That was for my
initial thoughts. Yeah. I think that's a normal initial thought. Yeah. And then, you know,
everyone else started loading in and we all circle around each other and start stealing.
items from each other are doing arm dances.
And I was like, okay, I'm a little more comfortable now.
The character model is just weird, by the way.
It's just a weird.
They are very strange.
I love that.
I love it, though.
The nose just like honks as you talk.
It's like, it's like almost like a Sesame Street character.
Like as you're as you're going and talking stuff like that.
But yeah, I just initially when I got in, I was confused, but also the second,
you have your friends and other people in there,
and there's all this stuff around,
and you see that there's action items,
then you can pick up stuff and you can,
these,
uh,
these kind of almost like,
um,
they're booies.
They're like,
they're like,
boos.
They're like,
uh,
workout inflatable,
like balls that light up.
Or something.
Yeah,
like that you can like light up and,
and then you can kick them and just punt them at people.
And then you start to feel like,
okay,
I can just kind of do whatever.
And,
and then it opens up and you,
feel a little more relaxed in the world.
So it definitely, initially you're like kind of what, what's going on?
And then it opens up.
I, for me, the initial impression was actually fairly positive.
I think the game presents really well.
Yes, I agree.
The sound design in this game is honestly incredible.
The graphics are pretty good, man.
Like, you actually feel like you're out in the woods wandering around doing that kind of thing.
I bet you did.
Oh, yeah, I bet you did.
Oh, I'm going to get to that.
I'm going to get to that. Don't you, don't you?
All right, you know what?
All right. I'm just doing it.
I got lost, guys.
And not only did I get lost, I got so lost that, like, I could not find somebody for like 10, 15 minutes.
This is our first time ever playing this game.
I'm so excited.
We have a full crew.
We have 12 people that are in this game.
Everybody's partying.
Everybody's running around.
We're having just the time of our lives.
and then like I fell down a mountain or something and then and then here's here's one of the things
the proximity chat in this game is stringent it is strict you got to be close up you were talking
to somebody and you go left and they go right and you were more than like like five meters from
each other you can't hear them anymore yeah and in this walking and talking business we walked
apart and little old me got lost in the woods and it was terrifying I
couldn't find nobody, dude.
Like nobody.
So for 10 minutes, I wandered around going,
Ace, Ryan,
Ace, Ryan, it's where is everybody?
There's no respawn.
There's no fast travel.
There's no nothing.
There's nothing, man.
If you get lost in the woods, you are lost in the woods.
And that is it.
And it sucked.
And I just remember thinking, like, I can't leave because I'm the host.
If I leave, everybody's going.
You got lucky the game crashed.
The game did crash.
Thank goodness the game crash because it was like, oh, I know how to find everybody again.
But like, it was the worst.
I was so lonely and afraid.
And I knew that there was so many people having fun and I was not part of the fun.
And I was like, I just want to have fun.
Where is everybody?
I think that's so funny.
And then thankfully the game crashed and it was fine after that.
It's so funny.
You wander off and can't find your way back.
I wander off all the time.
always find my way back to the crew.
I wasn't trying to find my way back.
I was trying to find people.
I could care less where I was.
Anybody.
I just wanted to find anybody, man.
Anybody.
It's like you're saying, though, the voice chat system is very strict.
Yeah.
Like, if you turn away just a little bit, someone can't hear you multiple times.
Like, you could hear people talking in front of me.
And then if I turned around for a split second, they were gone.
They were all gone.
And I couldn't hear them.
I couldn't see where they went.
couldn't do anything.
And I was like, oh, man.
We had 12 people and multiple times we were like, okay, let's go to this area, right?
We'd see a puzzle off in the distance.
And one of the neat things this game does is it makes any point of interest very bright
and vivid.
So they use like primary colors almost to go like, hey, there's something over here.
And it's very visible.
And then you go, oh, let's go check that out.
And everybody gets together and they start wandering over and you're talking.
Literally, you're walking and you're talking.
If that is part of the fun of the game is going from point A to point B.
But dude, there were so many times where it's like you'd hit like a little mountain and I'd watch like four people go this way and four people go that way.
And then those four people would just not meet up again.
And so even with a group of 12, you really wind up with like multiple groups of like two to three to four people.
You kind of naturally split off into your own little groups.
And I think the funny thing too is the physics in this game are really funny.
so you could slip off the side of the mountain.
You'll drop everything you're holding.
And then you won't be able to stand up immediately if there's a slope.
You just keep going.
You can, it can rocket you.
And here's the problem, people, is that if you fall off a mountain like I did,
and then you wind up sliding a good ways and then you hit a rock and it launches you,
you know, a little bit further, you're lost now.
You're alone.
You're alone in the woods.
With no friends, guys.
because you can't find anybody.
So, yeah, there's the whole getting lost part.
And, you know, the developers tried to make it look like it was this peaceful thing
where you just sit on a log all night.
And I'm like, no, that sucks.
I want to be with my people that are having fun and playing without me.
Having a rave.
Yeah.
Oh, yeah.
So, yeah, that can happen.
Creed concerts and nickel back and all that stuff.
So, Ryan, why don't you explain the puzzles?
Because we talked about the, you know, initial impressions, the mechanics,
of the game so far. There's really not a lot of
mechanics. Like I said, you can grab objects,
you can interact with them, you can push buttons, you can
raise your arms up. You know,
the world does throw a lot of
different objects at you.
But like, talk about
the puzzles a little bit, Ryan, because I think this
is the, this is the part
of the game where they go, hey, if you want something
to do, here's something to
focus your attention on. That's a good
way to describe it.
Like, there's a lot
of things in this
type of genre and this world of gaming with this game kind of how it looks and presents itself.
One thing that I think does stand alone is the puzzles.
I think they are pretty unique.
I really enjoyed the different aspects on each one.
There's one where it's like a telephone relay.
And you have to each, you have to relay the next person and the next person and the next person
and then the next person, and then Josh is just sitting out in the middle.
Like just sitting playing cats in the middle of the room.
Okay.
I, okay.
This is, I was already PTSD from getting left alone in the woods.
Okay.
So I, I'm still traumatized by this.
All right.
And then I finally find a whole bunch of people and you guys are doing a puzzle and I'm
opening up the door, but I didn't know unbeknownst to me that when you open the door,
it resets the puzzle.
And then I won't say who it was.
but we love him,
but somebody might have yelled at me
because I kept ruining the puzzles.
I didn't know I was ruining the puzzles,
but then rightfully,
so I got yelled at.
And then everybody,
and I was like,
oh,
okay,
I get it now.
And then everybody runs into the room
and all the doors closed,
except for me.
I didn't get to go into a room.
I didn't have a room.
But I'm not going to open the door
because I don't want to be that guy.
He got yelled at.
It's ruined it the puzzles.
So I sat outside while who knows what is going on in these rooms
for like 10 minutes by myself.
You know what I did?
I played catch with one of the stupid lights.
I literally was throwing it up in the air and then catching it for like 10 minutes straight.
And then all of a sudden, the most beautiful sound of the world is the doors opening and all of you coming out.
And then you guys are like, Josh, what are you doing out here?
And I was like, just sitting out here on the self play with my ball.
And then you, all of you start just cracking up like it's the funniest thing in the world that I got left alone again.
It was true.
Josh was left alone for sure.
But like this is the thing is where, uh, these games like require.
They do require some skill and some communication.
And like, you have to.
Communication is huge.
But also you have to decipher some stuff.
Like there's, there's other ones where, uh, you know, you have to relay, but like the,
the screen is blacked out.
So then you have to like set teapots on certain levels.
That is supposed to
Yeah, for sure
That's supposed to emulate
Like on the board
Where the levels are for where they should put
Whatever they're doing.
Like it's there's a lot of really good puzzles
I think they did a really good job
On creating something that is not
Super duper simple
But it's not impossible
And it's not something that you can't do with a few people
And you can't like get it done like
so it's but it's also unique every time there's always some weird little twist we had to sit we
oh my gosh tell tell me about this puzzle i wasn't there for five minutes in a room and that was the
that was the challenge we sat and then and then a couple times it was so it was longer than five minutes
because people kept resetting it until we figured out like oh we just literally have to just sit here
So you have to go into this room
You unlock the keys
And then it puts a timer up
And you have to sit there
For five whole minutes
And just sit
And you guys are all chilling
It's like a lodge room
Nobody can go anywhere
You can't leave
And you just have to sit there
And just you can hang out and talk
And so we ended up doing some more karaoke
We hung out,
We talked
We did therapy session
It was good
And then that's what I would say that some of the things that like this game creates is weird scenarios or situations that you run into to where you do things like that.
So man, yeah, the tasks and the things that you need to do in this game are always unique.
They're always different.
And you're going to have a good time for sure.
Yeah.
I will say this.
For the puzzles, I love puzzle games.
Like, I've played a lot of puzzle games.
I enjoy the genre.
This game has some of the coolest, most unique puzzles that I think of us.
Unique is the big word.
I think you need.
Legitimately, dude.
And they do run the gamut of like, at one point, we had to make a basket with a basketball.
But to do that, you had to like stack like four people on top of each other.
And it seems like that would be the easiest thing in the world.
But it wasn't.
And then that was a puzzle.
It was just like make a basket, you know?
And we were like, oh, okay.
And then, Ryan, you mentioned the sit in a room for five minutes and just talk to the people around you, you know?
Then you get into these crazy, like logic type puzzles, like what you were talking about with having to have a team on one side, a team on the other side.
And then this middle room that looked like a playground.
But where you place the tea kettles was basically like what the other room had to decipher.
And the one side knew where they went, but the other team had to do that.
We had one where you put a mask on somebody.
It was like a weird face and it would make them blind and mostly deaf.
Like you could hear mumbling and stuff.
But the puzzle there was one person that put the helmet on had to go through these like turnstile doors into an obstacle course.
And then everybody on the outside had to shout instructions to them to get them to move through the obstacle course.
Well, that guy's completely blind.
He has no idea what's going on.
But like that is the ingenuity to the puzzles in this game.
Which I think is absolutely masterful.
Like, in my opinion, hands down, the thing that makes this game what it is is the fact that they have designed these puzzles and they are cooperative in every sense of the word.
But they also, like you said, Ace, they force you to communicate not only verbally, but in like other ways.
Right.
Because sometimes, hey, dude, like, you'll end up at a soundproof room.
Right.
the glass over and over again like pick that button that button that button it's that one we got a
little ahead of ourselves we're going to explain why you do these puzzles because there is an overarching
goal to this game as well other than just having fun so we're going to talk about that right after
this break all right I'm sure we're going to talk about another puzzle or two on this but guys why do you
even do the puzzles in this game for progression baby you got to wait there's progression in this game
Yeah, man, you get permanent progression.
It'll make your life so much easier in this game.
Like, guarantee.
How do you go about that?
What's that?
How do you go about it?
What is, like, what's the progression?
Well, you go around the world, solve the puzzles and you'll get these little like, what are they?
Like, like orbs.
They look like there's like dog chew toys.
Yeah, they look like there's like.
Like conchoo toys.
You know what I'm talking about, right?
That's the one thing I can equate them to is people call them fruit and stuff.
And I'm like, bro, this is like a dog.
Yeah, we never like get a name.
for them, I don't think.
But you get the little con shapes and you get them from every single puzzle you complete.
So you'll always go with your group usually.
You'll carry it back.
Someone has to press and hold the button to open up the case so you can see it in.
So there are central towers.
So that's kind of the main thing is you see these towers that you need to complete, I don't know, five puzzles, right?
Yeah, it doesn't start with those five Kong things.
Yeah.
And then once you beat the tower, that unlocks a shortcut.
to like the starting area.
Yeah, it unlocks the shortcut to the starting area.
Then you do another tower, the red tower, and that unlocks the map.
You got a big area where the huge map is.
And you get to like locate, look at it at the island.
And like, I don't know, is it spoilers to say what the other tower unlocks that we got?
Does this game have spoilers, really?
Yeah, I don't think there's really spoilers in this because it's just.
I think one of the coolest ones we got, though, was the green tower.
We did the green tower.
Yeah.
We got a ski lift.
That takes you from the bottom straight to the top.
all the way over across the world.
Me and hell of it went the wrong way.
You morons.
You both took it down.
This is what that can happen is that is that everyone was going this way.
And he's like, Ryan, Ryan.
And then I hopped on and then we went and then I was like, wait.
And I'm like looking back and we went down the mountain.
We're going the wrong way.
And then there's nothing you can do.
Like you're stuck to ride for a while.
Like we were stuck for a while.
You better like the person you're lost with too because you could be lost for a while.
you'll be lost with that person for a long while so there is you know there is this overarching progression
in the game i think this gives you the the focus to go what should we do because most of the time
like we all loaded in and we went cool what do we do you know and then it's like well let's go
to do this puzzle thing over here so they do have the points of interest that kind of guide you
um you could in theory straight up beeline this game and just do nothing but the puzzles in the progression
And I think if you did that...
Not going to happen.
Not going to happen with a group.
If you did that, I'd say this game's probably what, about eight to ten hours maybe.
Yeah.
And a lot of that is walking.
Like, they're not joking.
Like, when you beat a puzzle and you get the little dog Kong thingy, you got to walk it back.
You have to walk back to the tower.
But like, as crazy as I thought that sounded and as boring as I thought that sounded initially, I do, I will readily admit that some of the best moments in this game,
where when we were doing absolutely nothing other than just hanging out together.
Dude, just running back with the group and someone's holding a lantern over their head.
Someone's holding a walkie.
Like, everyone's just together running back to the tower.
Like, we did it.
We did it.
When I was able to get like the.
It's such a good feeling.
The Ryan sucks sign.
Yeah, the Ryan sucks.
And then I got it.
And you can like kick stuff.
So then I took it and I just kicked it off.
I just yeaded it off the side there.
Like there's.
Oh, it was the helmet.
The helmet.
Yeah, the helmet for sure.
So the puzzle that I mentioned that makes the person blind and muffled, we brought back from the puzzle.
And I told the group, because Ryan wasn't there, I said, dude, we're going to tote this thing all the way back and we're going to put it on Ryan and nobody take it off.
Because you can't take it off yourself.
Nope.
Is the problem unless you fall off a cliff.
And it was like, we just kept putting it on Ryan like over and over and over again.
And he was like, it was just, it was amazing.
But like this to me is where it is the kind of unquantifiable part of this game where if you have people that you enjoy playing games with and you have a group of people, whether that be one other person or 11 other people, this is where it's like, bro, I'm just hanging out.
Like I don't know that I've ever played another game where I felt like I was at a party just hanging out with people that I loved being with.
Yeah.
No, I think that's exactly right.
that's exactly right it is i mean this is why i joked and it's a party game but like it is literally the
definition of a party if you have a bunch of people again you know i say bunch but that could be one
if it's somebody who like spending time with but it's like those moments of just being silly or
just standing around and talking or in the room where we had to just sit for five minutes like
we were all chatting away and and you're right ryan we were like having a therapy session and we
were joking and like and it was like that was one of those moments that you can't quantify to somebody
but like was still a really cool moment. Ryan Singh and Creed at the top of the tower through a
megaphone and people being like bro that actually doesn't sound too bad. You know what I mean?
And so then we all start doing karaoke at the top of this tower. Like those are the moments that can
just naturally like organically happen in this game and this game is supremely designed to foster
moments like that.
Yeah.
It excels at bringing people together.
And genuinely.
Yeah.
And that baffles me, dude, because on the surface, this seems like such a dumb game,
you know?
Do you guys remember one of the very first puzzles like we were struggling on was the maze puzzle?
Like, oh my gosh.
Having 12 people in that tiny little maze.
12 people.
I was laughing so hard, dude.
So hard at that because the whole thing was like, it was a big maze.
entered on either side and you
had to pass this little egg timer
through the holes of the wall in the maze to run it
to the end.
Once you get like another 10
people in there who don't need to be in there.
It was a lot harder than you think.
It gets a lot harder.
People were running around going,
what are we supposed to do? I don't know.
Like so-and-so said this. And then you run it off.
You're trying to find so-and-so.
But then there's a little group of like five people
stand in the middle of this tiny little hallway.
Just chatting away.
Talking about life.
just laughing and joking about stuff.
They were just in their own little world together.
It's so fun.
It's such a great feeling, man.
I will say, like, if you're looking, I don't know,
you call these hangout games.
And I remember mocking you at one point because I was like,
what the heck is a hangout game?
This sounds terrible.
This is a hangout.
No, this is a friend's off game.
I kind of like hanging out with people.
This is a friend soft game.
No, this is a friend soft game.
What's slop about it?
What's slop about any of the games that we play?
No, no.
No, there's not. This game is well developed.
This is the antithesis of a hangout game.
I disagree with Ryan. And I get what you're saying, Ryan, because it seems like it's short, dumb, fun.
But this game is very well developed. The physics in this game are great. The puzzles are
masterful. It's all well thought out. And it ends. It has an end.
Fred Slop doesn't have an end. Take away the walking, take away the talking, and give me a game
where there's nothing but 50 of these puzzles for me and my friends to go through. And I would pay
rock solid money for that game, dude. Like, that's how good the.
puzzles in this game are.
And then you add in all of these objects and the fun of just being with people.
And sometimes like they said in this, I can't believe I'm saying this guys.
But sometimes just walking from point A to point B was the best parts of the game.
And I don't know who I am anymore.
Is this a midlife crisis?
Is this what this is?
Is this what I'm going through right now?
Oh my God.
No, it's just what it is to have great friends, man.
Yeah, maybe.
Maybe that's what it is.
All right.
That's, I mean, that's like, there's really not much more to explain in Big Walk.
And we could go on for hours about the different dumb things that we did, like our rave that we had with laser writers.
Pitching people off the top of the tower because you can pick each other up.
So that was, that was fun.
When someone disconnects, they become a corpse.
They do.
Yeah, they become a corpse.
And then you can check their money.
And we brought them to the next, next task we had to do.
And also, sorry, parents.
or I lost the flare gun.
You kicked that thing way off that tower.
I kept trying to like aim it,
but when I'd aim it, that's the kick gun.
Kick button.
Yeah.
And then I just yeat it off the top.
Yeah.
Oh no.
And I just watch it fly.
Well, there he goes.
Yeah.
This game's very easy to play.
It's very easy to get into.
There's very, very little learning curve for this game.
Anyone can play big walk.
Yeah.
Well, what's funny is we had a few people that passed the controller over to their
kids and then they were like guys my kids are completely hooked so now there's conversation about
maybe letting all of the kids play together on a server um i mean it's a very family friendly
friendly game there's nothing weird about the game at all um it's just this is this is a this is a
playground that the developers gave people and they said just go play and i remember watching
the trailers and kind of going that sounds dumb it's not dumb it's not dumb like i will fully say like
I thought it was going to be dumb and it is not dumb.
It's not good.
At all.
So, all right, let's rate this game because that's what we do around here.
And this one's weird to me because I don't know that the game would be vastly different if you only had like two or three people.
We did log in at one point, but then the world had reset because somebody else hosted it.
And we were like, we don't want to just redo everything we've done.
So let's hop into my world.
but then we ran out of time to try this as like a small group.
Um,
I think there's tons of fun.
Like, Ace,
I know you ran off with your spouse and you guys were doing some puzzles,
you know,
just kind of the two of you and stuff like that.
My spouse and pans are,
yeah,
we ran off to do like a longitude latitude puzzle and found out that we had to do both
coordinates at the same time.
We're like,
I'm not doing that.
Yeah.
I will say this.
The game does scale.
So if you do only have two people,
the puzzles are scaled for two people,
which is nice.
Yeah.
plus it they the puzzles go to four plus at that point as well um i don't want to start us off on
this one because i'm honestly still trying to figure out my rating on this um so ace i'm going
to throw it to you as our indie expert and our man it's a rough our hangout game person
yeah i think big walk is a testament to these like friendship games these things that bring
people together and like it does such a good job in the puzzle
are unique and creative.
But if you don't have friends to play it with,
you're not really going to want to play Big Walk, which is the downside.
But for the price, 15 bucks, I would say 15 bucks is absolutely worth the experience you get from Big Walk.
I kind of flip-flopped on it back and forth a little bit.
I'm going to say it's an 8.8.
I think it's really.
Dang.
That's great.
That's high.
Yeah.
I don't think it's quite a 9 or a 10, like.
like they've been getting for ratings,
which I don't disagree with anyone who says it is.
But it is a solid,
just great experience.
Definitely one of the best indies this year.
By,
like,
for sure.
Yeah.
Um,
Ryan.
You guys are so scared to rate this game.
I don't know.
I'm so confused on this.
That's the thing is like,
now I feel like,
when it's my turn.
Now I feel like I'm way low,
uh,
which I thought,
I thought my rating was like,
that's why I wanted to go last.
I thought my rating was like,
me the guy. I thought it was so appropriate
for what it is, but like
for this game about the experience you had.
Absolutely, but like
I, there's, there's a lot of games
that you can have an awesome experience,
but it's not like overall a good game.
Not to say that this isn't that.
Like, I think that
they created an amazing world.
It looks, it looks awesome.
We put a ton of time in.
The puzzles are great. Like,
it was a ton of fun.
Um,
but I,
also, and I said this when we were playing, like, I could, I could play this game tomorrow or I could never play it again. And I wouldn't care. Like, that's, that's kind of where I'm at with it. I, I had a blast. And I had a blast when I was on the game, but it's not like I'm going to sit at night and think about it. And so for me, a game like this would be, probably around a seven, eight. That's fair. I think it was a,
a really, really good game.
I think obviously there's not some crazy narrative.
There's not some crazy story or combat or all these things.
So you're missing out on all that.
But what you get with the world building and being with people and the experience,
like, that means a lot.
So I think 7-8, it is an awesome game.
If you have even two, three people to play with, definitely, absolutely check it out.
It is worth the experience for, for,
a game like this.
Yeah.
I'm torn on this one and this is why, right?
Like there are some pain points in this game and it's the guy that got lost for 10 minutes
it was miserable.
Honestly, dude, there's zero fun, like zero fun about just wandering through the woods
by yourself.
Like that, like to me, that was like there was nothing.
You know, like I was like, I hate this right now.
The moments where we had everybody together and everybody was joking or working together
on a puzzle, I thought we're masterful, right?
And then it's like, okay, well, is that the people or is that the game?
That's my, that's my conundrum, right?
Because it's like, part of my brain goes, it's the people.
If you gave me these people and told me we're just hanging out in a voice chat,
we'd be cracking up having a blast.
You know what I mean?
So like, like, did I have fun?
Absolutely.
I had a blast, but I'm trying to figure out how much I attribute that to the game versus how
much I just attribute it to the fact that we had a whole bunch of really cool people hanging out playing something together, you know? Um, so then I look at the game itself. There are some pain points. It's not perfect. Um, you know, again, it's easy to get lost. There's a couple of mechanics that are a little weird. Um, it doesn't really tell you very much. Like, you know, it's not perfect. I think the puzzles are masterful. Like legitimately, that was my genuinely favorite part of the entire game. So then I go, well, is this, do I just rate this like it's a puzzle game? Because then I'm pretty happy with it.
I think what I'm going to do is it is well developed.
There is fun to be had.
You know,
a lot of games try to give people a sandbox.
And the sandbox that Big Walk gives you is an enjoyable sandbox for sure.
You know,
and I think that this idea of giving you something to focus on,
but giving you enough leeway to just walk and talk sometimes,
as strange as that sounds to my brain is still enjoyable,
I'm going to give it an eight.
I'm trying,
I'm also trying to force myself to test out not doing decimals for a little while to see how I would do.
Not officially, but just, you know.
And I felt like, yeah, I feel like a nine is too high and a seven is too low.
So I'm going to say I think it's an eight.
I say that because it, what they do, they do very well.
But I'm also with Ryan in the sense.
And it makes a ton of sense when you said this, Ryan, where it's like, I really enjoyed
my time with it.
But if I never played it again, I don't think I would miss it either.
Yeah.
You know?
And it's like, I really enjoyed it.
Desire to like bring anyone else into the fold of,
Big Walk, like family, like bring it out for a family time.
No.
No, no.
Really?
No.
Yeah.
I mean, there's the like, the puzzle guy in me wants to see what other puzzles they came up
with because like I was reading something and it like somebody was talking about a puzzle.
And I was like, oh, we never did that one.
That one sounds really cool.
Um, kind of thing.
But yeah, I think I legitimately think this is a really rock solid game.
I will say, unless you really love your gaming partner, I think two people, it might feel a
little big and a little lame, especially if it's like somebody.
that like this sounds weird but like if you like if it's like your spouse right you hang out with them
every day hanging out in this game may not seem that different whereas it's like if you have a
friend that doesn't live nearby that you love to hang out with that's the perfect experience
for you to cooperate and do something at the same time i do feel like this game's like would
probably be at its best with like four plus and you know we had that the whole time but um see
i'm giving it an eight i think it's a very well done game i think that part of the magic is simply
the it gives you a sandbox and then it's the people it's not the game so i'm trying to be a little
critical of that um but the things it does it does really well so yeah there you go uh definitely
enjoyed my time with big walk and if anybody wants to go well is it worth the 15 dollars then i
think the answer is yes yeah absolutely you know at that point um i checked my my steam time we have
seven hours in it and for 15 dollars seven hours of the entertainment that we got is a no brain
oh it's so good yeah so
All right. Well, let us know what you think about Big Walk. If you have played it, if you think it sounds interesting. I'll say this too. There's not through any, you know, like thing that we've done. But there are games being given away in our server left and right all the time. Sully. And it would not surprise. Actually, I think he is giving away a copy of Big Walk. So if you want to try to win a copy, if it's not already over, there you go. But come join our community.
You know, we just talked about the 12 people that we played this with.
