Boom! Hey, everybody, it's Josh, and I'm here with another amazing, glorious, fabulous Quick
Takes episode, our way of saying thank you for the incredible support.
You're the only ones that get these.
Other people, they don't get these awesome bonus episodes.
People that support the show, guess what you get?
You get bonus episodes and our eternal thanks thanks too, but more so bonus episodes.
And in this one, I'm going to talk about a game that I have not heard anybody mentioned before.
And I got a chance to try it out. My daughter actually came up to me and said,
Dad, you love dragons. I said, yes, I do. She loves dragons. She's just like her old man.
And she said, there's this dragon game that came out called Century Age of Ashes.
It's free to play.
And it's got some really, really cool looking dragons in it.
And guess what you get to do?
You get to dogfight on these dragons.
And I went, well, man, that sounds right up my alley.
Free to play.
Dragons.
Fighting.
Competition.
I'm in.
Let's do it.
So she got me to download this game.
She had played it a little bit longer than I have. And we played it together. You can team up. It's
multiplayer. And I had a lot of fun. I'm not saying that this game isn't without its flaws.
But for a free-to-play game that has a lot to offer, I definitely think it's something that you
should at least check out and see if it's up your alley.
Because I had a lot of fun when I did play it.
And I think they do a lot right.
I think they need to add a few things to the game.
And then it legitimately could be a very popular game.
So what is this game?
It's a multiplayer aerial combat game on the back of these very well done dragons.
The graphics in this game are top notch. I thought that was very impressive. The flight of the dragons is a lot of fun.
The abilities that the dragons get are a lot of fun. And I know it sounds goofy to say dog fighting
with dragons, but that's basically what you do in this game. So when you load in, you have an
option of three classes that you can pick from.
And they do different things. They have different traits. And you got to kind of read up on that
stuff because I don't have time on a Quick Takes episode to tell you all about it. But there are
three classes in this. You have the Skeldian Windguard that is more of like your support
class in this game. You actually get abilities that let you shield
and heal your teammates in that.
And I've always thought that that was a neat aspect
in competitive like multiplayer games,
because I mean, let's be honest,
who doesn't want a healer on their team?
You have the Naredor Phantom.
This is like your rogue almost.
They can turn invisible,
which is really the OP class as of this recording being able to turn invisible and lose people off of your tail is pretty huge
if you attack while you're invisible like if you spit a fireball at somebody it does extra damage
and so obviously that can be pretty devastating in that regard. And then you have the Svard Marauder, which is
kind of like your tanky dragon class, I guess. Those guys can deal out some damage. They can
take it. They have a passive ability that I think refreshes their skills when they get a kill so
that you can breathe fire faster and more often and stuff like that. So there's your three classes.
This is a third person. So you're not first person when you're fighting. But basically,
what happens is you pick your class, your team kind of gets put together. When you start off,
it's just a 3v3. You go into what they call the newbie arena. And it's just your team versus the
other team, 3v3. And you fly around. Your dragons have a few basic attacks. You can shoot fireballs. So this works almost like a jet fighting game where if you keep them in your reticle long enough, it locks onto them. And then you can spit fireballs at your opponent that home in and hit them and do a decent bit of damage. If you get close to your opponent and you kind of keep the reticle on them
for a second or two,
you can then unleash a very devastating fire blast
where your dragon just breathes fire constantly on them
and just roasts them.
And that does a lot of damage.
If you're getting roasted, it sucks.
And if you're doing the roasting, it's great
because you can just watch their health drop
very quickly in that regard.
As the rounds progress, you get another ability that you can use each round.
And this is where something like with the phantom that you can turn invisible.
If you're the wind guard, you can dash at an ally and heal them and things like that.
Some of these classes get like mines almost where you can put it on the side of a mountain.
And if somebody flies near it, it detonates and then it does a good bit of damage there as well.
Dragons can boost.
So you can double tap or push a button and you'll get this very fast speed boost that is very good for maneuverability.
There's these weird updraft type funnels where if you hit one of those, it launches you super high into the air.
And so there's a lot of movement.
This game is very fast paced, but it is a lot of fun.
I found myself really enjoying this.
And, you know, I love competition, let's be honest.
So anytime I get a chance to just, you know, own somebody else, it's great.
But playing with my daughter the other day, we were actually working together.
If she had somebody on her,
I would peel and then try to take them off of her tail.
She'd do the same thing.
So there definitely is some strategy involved,
but this is a fast-paced game.
You really are flying around and whipping around.
You have to, there's stuff like where if you slow down
to turn, you can turn a lot faster,
but then there's that risk reward of you slow down, so now you're somewhat of an easier target.
There's caves that you can fly through.
You can turn very quickly.
So there's just a lot of that actual dogfighting to this game.
And I found it a lot of fun.
There are bigger game modes. So after you get to level five in this newbie mode where you're just doing 3v3, you then move on to like a 6v6 mode.
And that gets a little chaotic.
I have not played this game a ton.
I've probably got maybe, you know, a couple hours into it.
And I don't understand all of the modes yet.
But it made enough of an impression on me that I wanted to put it out there because it's free to play because it's competitive.
It's multiplayer.
It checks a lot of boxes for a lot of people.
It's not that big of a game, so it's a fairly easy download.
The graphics are really good.
I love dragons.
I'm not going to lie.
I've always been a dragon nerd my entire life, and they do dragons right in this
game, in my opinion. They're not comic-y. They don't look wimpy. These are what I would expect
dragons to look like, and the riders on them look really cool as well. The combat in this game is
very well done. My only complaint about this game is I don't think that it has enough modes. I think
they need to flesh out some of the skills. There's a little bit of balancing that needs to happen because the Phantom class
right now is a little OP and they need to add a few other modes. There's some that don't work.
Like you have to go and like kill these gold carrying dragons and then collect the gold and
then run it back to your base. It's a little weird. I just want to, I just want to dog fight
really. But check it out again. it's called Century Age of Ashes.
I think it's a lot of fun. I think there's people out there that are going to absolutely
love this game. They're still developing it, even though they released it.
I see this being something that if they keep up with it, could be a lot of fun and really catch on.
It's great with friends because you do get to work as a team. It's easy to group up and all
that stuff as well. So check it out. Century Age of Ashes. If you give it a shot, let me know. I love talking
to you guys about this kind of stuff and hearing your thoughts. It's free to play. So if you don't
like it, it's not going to hurt my feelings and it's not going to hurt your pocketbook. That's
for sure. So all right. That's it for me for this bonus episode. I hope you enjoyed it. Thank you
for the support and I will see you on
the next one. Bye everybody.
