Hey guys, welcome to this Quick Take episode. We're so excited to have you here with us.
In the past, these Quick Take episodes actually were only available to those
who financially supported the show through Apple subscriptions and Patreon.
But due to popular demand, we have decided to shake up the perks for our supporters and
we'll be releasing these Quick Takes on Saturdays to everyone, giving you all
some extra free content that was previously unavailable to the public.
And these Quick Takes are a little more laid back, and they're hosted by just one of us.
So sit back, relax, and enjoy this Quick Take episode.
Shazam!
Boom!
Hey guys, it's Paul here with another Quick Take episode.
I wanted to take the opportunity here to talk a little bit about mobile gaming,
since you guys know from listening to the podcast that Josh is not a fan of mobile gaming. He does not play any mobile games whatsoever,
and so we don't normally have an opportunity to talk a whole
lot about it. So I think I might do a little bit of a mini series here where I talk a little bit
about some of my favorite mobile games. Since mobile games tend to be pretty cheap or free,
they're also widely accessible. So hopefully it's something that you guys will enjoy.
So one game that I really like playing right now, it's not only fun, but it's also
educational in a way, but it is a game called Guess Where Challenge. And guess where is just
a single word. And this is a game that basically plops you down in a random location in the world
on Google Maps. And you're given a little bit of a time period where you can click around,
and you have to try to figure out where in the world you are. And then you can click when you're
ready to guess. It gives you a map of the entire world, and then you click. And depending on how
far away you are from the location, it gives you a certain number of points. So if you click too far away, like maybe
if you think you're in, you know, Mexico, but in reality it was actually, you know, Russia, you're
not going to really get any points at all because it's so far, but sometimes you are able to guess
actually quite close to the location. And so basically it takes you through where you do this
10 times in a row, and then it adds up your total score. And then basically it takes you through where you do this 10 times in a row and then it adds up your total score.
And then basically you can play against yourself.
It also has a multiplayer option so you can go up against other people and you can kind of challenge them.
It's actually really neat because it exposes you to a lot of other parts of the world.
And it's really interesting because you get to see kind of like how cities
are set up and what the people are like. And you kind of get to experience a little bit of these
random cultures that maybe you don't normally see a whole lot about. It's always really interesting
because sometimes you get put in the middle of nowhere and those aren't quite as fun if you're
not in any kind of city. And sometimes you're quite as fun if you're not in any kind of city.
And sometimes you're just kind of stuck going along the highway. And then you try to find a
sign and then you do your best to try to figure out what kind of language that is. But especially
when you get put into a big city, I think it's just so neat to be able to see, you know, what's
out there. And so sometimes you can get lucky and you'll see like an actual address or
something on the side of a building or a restaurant. And sometimes that can make it a little
bit easier. I remember when I was playing it just a couple of days ago, I saw a restaurant and it
actually said that it was in Dublin. So I was like, okay, well, this kind of narrows things down. And
I actually ended up guessing a third of a mile away of where the location actually was. So that has been so far the
closest I've been able to guess. Being in America, if you ever land somewhere in the US,
it's usually fairly easy to kind of figure out where that is. But a lot of times I'll see words
that are clearly in Spanish, or maybe it's Portuguese. And so it's trying to figure out where that is. But a lot of times I'll see words that are clearly in Spanish,
or maybe it's Portuguese. And so it's trying to figure out, you know, is this Spain or is this
in South America? But it's a really neat concept. You can get it for free on mobile. You can also
play it for free in your browser. I remember that's how I first ran across this years ago.
So I don't think this is like a copy written kind of game.
There's probably several versions out there,
but it's just really neat.
Very simple concept,
but you know,
really fun to play.
So feel free to check that one out and challenge your friends.
Get to learn a little bit more about other cultures outside of your own.
And then also,
you know,
just see how close you can get. You know, I'm curious to know if you guys end up playing this, you know, just see how close you can get.
You know, I'm curious to know if you guys end up playing this, you know, what, what did you find?
Did you find some random funny pictures in Google maps? You know, that's always fun too. Every once
in a while you'll see auto accidents or, you know, something going on that's just totally at random.
So once again, the name of that game is Guess Where? So G-U-E-S-S-W-H-E-R-E Challenge.
Super small game, doesn't take up a whole lot of memory. I don't think it really had any permissions
either, so that's always a little bit of a bonus. But the app also has leaderboards, it has different
challenges, so it does have quite a bit to keep it fresh and new. So highly recommend checking that
out and let us
know what you guys think of it. All right. See you guys next week for the next Quick Take episode.
