For today's Quick Take episode,
Starting point is 00:01:29 I thought that it would just be a little bit fun to go behind the scenes and tell one of my favorite stories here with the history of our podcast. I know that Josh and I have often talked a little bit about why we started the podcast. But as you're learning new skills, like how to do a podcast and how to edit it and how to get it out there, you always end up with these funny stories because you just have no idea what you're doing in the beginning. And so I thought it might be fun just to go a little bit behind the curtain here. But when we very first started the podcast, we were recording some episodes, we were listening to them, we were trying to give each other constructive criticism because, of course, like all things
Starting point is 00:02:10 in life, you're never perfect the first time around. Of course, our podcast is nowhere near perfect, but we were striving to become better and to at least sound professional in the beginning. And I know that one of the biggest struggles that we had, especially, actually, it was all three of us, me, Todd, and Josh, but all of us were using the word like too much and some things of that nature. And the one thing that was really getting on my nerves just when I would listen to our podcast is that I noticed that Josh and I would often smack our lips before we would start talking. Kind of like that, right? Like when you don't talk for a long time, you got your mouth closed, and then you open it and you get that smack sound. And Josh didn't really believe me that this was happening a lot. I was like, yeah, Josh, there's just like lip smacks every single time you and I
Starting point is 00:03:02 start talking. We just have to be more cognizant, you know, try to just open your mouth and then start talking. And so I liked to joke that I was forced into shaming Josh over the lip smacking. But I decided when I was editing one of the podcasts that I would just pull out and save every single time that Josh's lips would smack. And I did that for only one episode. And I don't remember which one it was, but I did save it as a separate MP3 file. And so, you know, I'm just going to play it. I'm going to play it right here for your guys' ears.
Starting point is 00:03:37 You're going to be able to hear this. This is probably going to drive a lot of you nuts, but this is just going to be 45 seconds with no context at all, just showing the lip smacks that we had in one episode. Josh was not the only one guilty of this. I was doing it just as much as him. And it just kind of like became our funny joke when I was like, yeah, we really got to get it under control. So maybe if you didn't realize, here's just a compilation from one episode. So here go all of its glory 45 seconds of josh's lips here we go train wow before you know it. You go to the inner. I was overruled. But terrible. Maybe.
Starting point is 00:04:30 What about you, Paul? What about you, Todd? No. That's a good way of describing it. Facts milk. About this game, I'm still going to murder it. No. I guarantee you I will never play Destiny again
Starting point is 00:04:47 after this podcast. Definitely. That's a Todd. I can give you a real shooter game. Oh, all right. So now that we're done with that, uh, obviously, as you guys have probably noticed, that has really been cut down a lot over time. We realize that there are things that you subconsciously do that you have to correct and fix for the shows, but that's one that was really funny. Since we have enough time here, I will tell one other quick story that was definitely a learning experience. But one of our greatest fears in the early days of the podcast was our computer deleting our WAV file that we had saved and not
Starting point is 00:05:35 having it available. Because in order to have the high quality audio, we have to record separate files. And then as part of the editing, we just have to line them up and then we have our individual files. Well, in the beginning, we ended up with a couple of issues where it ended up biting all of us once. It happened, I think, first with Todd, where Todd accidentally deleted his file before saving it and we had to re-record an episode. And the very next week, it happened to Josh. And so we had to re-record an episode there. And of course, that's really hard because you've already kind of like shared your thoughts
Starting point is 00:06:16 and all of your stories, and you still have to make it sound authentic. And so twice in a row, we had to re-record an episode. Well, I, of course, knew that it was always possible I could do the same, but I really went out of my way to give them a hard time. And I was like, guys, this will never happen to me. I will never lose my file. You know, you guys just got to get this together. And of course, what ended up happening was I had the wrong microphone input selected one day, and we recorded all of Borderlands
Starting point is 00:06:49 3, that entire episode, and I ended up losing my file. And I just went to Todd and Josh, and I was like, guys, I'm so sorry. I don't have the file. I was on the wrong input. And what I ended up realizing is that Todd just happened to have his headphones so loud that day that it was loud enough to get picked up by his mic. And I realized that if I turned Todd's track up all the way, I could hear everything that I said. I could hear myself talk. I can hear my laughs. I can hear my interjections. And so what I ended up doing was re-recording just my track, playing Todd and Josh's in the background with Todd's blaring. And then as I would hear myself, I just echoed back everything that I said and did. And I did not even know if this was going to work, But I thought, you know what? I'm going to waste like an hour and 20 minutes of my own time trying to replicate my audio track.
Starting point is 00:07:50 And if this doesn't work, then sorry, Todd and Josh, we're just going to have to re-record the whole episode. And you know what? It ended up working. I gave the file to Todd and Josh. I just said, hey, do you guys mind giving this one a listen? Let me know if there's any weird timing or if anything doesn't sound right. Let me know if we need to redo any of it. And the guys were super supportive. They said, no, everything sounds great. And I was like, well, just so you know, I had to completely rerecord my lines without you guys, but I'm glad that it ends up sounding okay. So if you end up going back and listening to Borderlands 3, that's a little bit of a director's commentary thing that you wouldn't know from the outset, but that's actually me sitting around like a maniac trying to laugh at jokes I already heard
Starting point is 00:08:36 and trying to make it sound authentic. So anyway, as we record later quick takes, maybe I'll share some things here behind the scenes, but I thought you guys might like that one. So anyway, that's it here for today.
