Boom! Hey everybody, it's Josh here, and today I'm going to share with you one of my secretly
favorite games. I've brought this game up in the past, but it's time to tell you why I love it so
much, and it's also time to tell you why I think you should definitely give this game a shot.
That game is Subnautica. Now maybe you've heard of Subnautica before. Maybe you
haven't. If you have not played this game, I'm going to spend the next few minutes telling you
why I absolutely think that you should and you won't regret it. First, though, a quick description
about the game from the developer. Subnautica. Descend into the depths of an alien underwater
world filled with wonder and peril. Craft equipment to pilot submarines and outsmart wildlife to explore lush coral reefs volcanoes cave systems
and more all while trying to survive okay now what is subnautica it is a exploration survival
crafting type game that takes place in a ocean that is on a water world planet type thing.
You start off crash landing. You're in a coral reef area. It's shallow. You're swimming around.
You're finding fish. You're finding minerals. You are progressing and expanding your life pod
that you kind of start off in that acts like your initial base.
This game is very colorful. It's a beautiful game. I think the graphics really serve to help to enhance the atmosphere and the enjoyability of this game. Plus, it's optimized really well.
It's pretty easy to run, even though it is a large ocean that is open to you at any given moment. It is an open world type game. But in
this case, you are really looking to be able to go deeper and deeper in the ocean because that is
what you need to do to kind of progress and kind of uncover more of the story in this game.
So what's the gameplay loop like? Okay, well, it's exploring. Honestly, it's about 90%
exploration, but man, do they do a good job of getting you to want to explore.
There's different biomes in this game.
There is some areas that are above water,
although most of it is in the ocean,
but the exploration in this is top-notch.
The survival elements are definitely there.
You do need food and water.
Oxygen serves a huge purpose in this game,
so you need to find ways to expand your oxygen
supply so that you can stay underwater longer and you can go deeper and you can explore more.
It has great crafting elements. There's a lot of technology in this game that you will discover.
There are recipes that you'll discover and basically just things that are going to make
life easier for you all around. So if you like crafting. There is a very good bit of that in this game.
Okay.
So it is an open world.
You can go wherever you want.
But like I said.
The main goal is explore deeper.
Stand or water longer.
And explore those biomes.
And what the bottom of the ocean has to offer for you.
One of the things about this game.
Is it has an amazing sense.
Of going beyond. What you thought you could.
Now, what does that mean? Okay. So you're exploring, you find a new area, you go,
whoa, this is the coolest thing ever. How about that? I made it. And then there's moments where
you're just like, whoa, no way. Like they, they did this right. And without spoilers,
I can't really go much further into that, but I'm just telling you, there's parts in this game where it blew my mind that it was possible.
And it was honestly incredible to the point where it's still memorable to me to this day.
It does have a good story.
The story is fairly simple, but it does give some very cool moments.
There's some eerie moments.
Some people have
actually described Subnautica as being a little bit scary. Now, I don't think it's a scary game,
and I do think it's appropriate for people of all ages. But if you play it, you'll understand
what I mean. There is danger in this game. You certainly can die. Not everything in the ocean
wants you there, and you certainly don't want to run into things in the ocean that don't want you there.
So you'll see what I mean.
Okay, so what don't I like about Subnautica?
Not a lot, to be honest.
The only thing that I have a complaint in this game is that through that exploration, there are times where you need to find certain components. And if those components are hard to find and you spend 30 minutes swimming
around looking to try to find out where it is, that can get a little frustrating. It can kind
of stall the game out just a little bit. I do remember one moment where I just could not find
the last piece of a recipe that I needed. I swam around for what felt like forever and I was
getting frustrated. I did finally find it.
The game progressed very well after that point, and I don't think I recall too many of those moments happening, but it will happen. But that's honestly really my only complaint.
Okay, so what does this game sell for? Currently, it's $29.99 on Steam. This is also available for
console, Xbox, and PlayStation. It does go on
sale. You can probably pick it up for half price if you're waiting for it to go on sale. But I
think it is well worth, I mean well worth the money at $29.99. I checked my time on Steam on
this. I clocked in 38 and a half hours. And all of that was gameplay. It's well
worth it. I think you can expect to put in anywhere between 30 to probably 40, 45 hours in this game,
just depending on how much you swim around and explore versus how much you just try to beeline
progression. But in my opinion, it's easily worth the price at $29.99. Subnautica is a unique game in a number of ways, and it does
everything very, very well. If you have not looked into it, I highly recommend you look up some
gameplay videos, but they will not do the game justice for what you are going to encounter and
explore and discover in this game. It's a game I still talk about. I highly recommend it. Give it
a try. I don't think you'll be disappointed. I highly recommend it. Give it a try.
I don't think you'll be disappointed. All right, guys, hope you enjoy it. If you do check out
Subnautica, do me a favor, hit me up. Let me know if you've played it before. Let me know your
thoughts on it. If you do pick it up from this recommendation, hey, let me know. Just tell me,
say, Josh, man, that was the best recommendation ever. Or wow, man, you just made me waste $30.
Either way, you know, hey, it's worth a shot,
right? All right. Thanks a lot, guys. I will talk to you soon. Have a good one. Bye-bye.
