Hello, fellow gamers and welcome to the Video Gamers podcast.
May is here and with it a slew of new games that need to be on your radar.
From 007 First Light to the awesome looking and under known mixtape,
this month has a whole lot to offer gamers, but which ones belong on your radar?
Well, we're here to help, but before we get to that, some introductions are in order.
I am your host, Josh, and joining me, he's excited about every game releasing in May and June and July,
because he's just an easily excitable guy who loves video games.
It's Ryan.
We did talk about this on the pre-show.
I was in San Diego.
I met up with a longtime fan and listener of the show.
Rigo, awesome guy.
Apparently he told my wife, when I was off on a other day.
the roller coaster with our kids, that I am, I'm like a golden retriever.
And I was like, dang it, that kind of fits.
I was like, I don't like how much that fits.
Yeah.
Well, Ryan, golden retriever is one of my favorite breeds of dogs ever.
So it makes sense that you and I are like, you know, we're tight.
Yep.
Love it.
Also, fetch.
Fetch.
Fetch.
Fetch.
And joining us, I stole mixtape.
from him.
So like the vengeful guy he is, he stole some Nautica 2 for me.
But then we realized he had like 12 games on his Indies list.
So we stole it back plus zero parades just to teach him a lesson.
It's ace.
Genuinely, if I didn't have such an absurd amount of games to cover this week,
I would have been holding on for those two for dear life based on what happened last time I gave you two games.
Yeah, that's fair.
I don't think people know like the war that goes on behind the scenes between like the indie episodes and the main episodes.
And it's like, hey, some of these are indie games that we really want to talk about on the main show.
But then Aces like, no, those are indies.
They're mine.
And then we're like, yeah, that's fair.
But no, we want them.
And then we have to fight back and forth on it.
I like I say we're fighting.
Like, no, it's just you and Ace.
Oh, no.
You guys are just like.
And unfortunately, yeah.
The usual rule of the masterminds behind the podcast.
Is that what you're saying, Ryan?
I just sit back and watch.
Ryan's just wagging his golden retriever tail in the background.
Gapes?
Gaves?
I get to talk about games.
Yep, pretty much.
I have to watch all these trailers.
That's fair.
Yeah.
And then he just falls over and starts whining.
No fair.
Yeah.
I just drove a billion hours and I'm here.
I was here.
I've been home for 20 minutes.
Ryan is fresh off the six and a half hour drive.
to sit down for more and talk about video games for a while.
This is the professionals we are, people.
We do this for you.
Yeah, exactly.
And speaking of people, guys, we're going to start off by thanking a lot of people right now.
So buckle up because one of the things we love to do on this podcast is to say thank you to every person that supports this show that signs up on Patreon to give their support so that we can continue to do this podcast.
is to say thank you to every person that supports this show
that signs up on Patreon to give their support
so that we can continue to do this podcast year after year after
we're getting close to like a thousand episodes I think dude it's it's pretty bananas
but one of the ways that we say thank you is we thank every new supporter of the show
and so guys we have five new people to thank today so we're going to start with
Steven Spurrier. A huge shout out to you, Steven, signing up for rare status.
Yeah. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.
Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. And then. And then not to be out done.
Jonathan Lebrough goes, hey, I'm not letting these two guys beat me. So Jonathan signs up for rare status. So thank you, Jonathan.
Thank you again, brother.
And then my wife made fun of me for this name.
Harry Allen.
My middle name is Allen and I'm a hairy guy.
So my wife was like, hey, it's you.
And I'm like, no, this is the one and only awesome Harry Allen that signed up to support
this podcast.
So thank you, Harry.
Thank you, Harry.
It's just her in the background to Harry Allen.
Yeah.
Yeah.
And then last but not least, we've got Zorlock, the Defiler.
Yeah.
I saw that name and I was like,
That is pretty awesome.
Thank you very much.
Thank you, Zorlock.
Thank you.
I'm not going to lie.
I just watched The Hobbit, and there's the so-and-so the defiler, the dude who's like the big tall, like albino orc.
Yeah, the white orc.
Yeah.
Yeah, what's his name, though?
It's something the defiler.
It's, uh, is, uh, is, uh, are, uh, Azar, Azar.
You should know this, Ryan.
Azar?
Asar, Azar, yeah, something like that.
So it's not Zorlock, the defiler, but apparently they're disoelor.
but apparently they're distant cousins
because they do a lot of defiling.
Azog.
Asog.
Yeah.
So, so, you know, the more famous of the defileler family.
Sorry, Zorlock.
You're famous now for supporting the show.
Nah.
Love it.
Right?
Love it.
And we love it too.
So thank you.
He's the payroll.
Hopefully you have two arms and not just one.
Yeah.
Although that hook arm thing was pretty sick too.
That is pretty sick, yeah.
Yeah.
Well, thank you to all of you for signing up to support this show.
Thank you to all our current supporters.
And listen, if you love what we do, if you love the fact that there is a podcast out there that is by gamers for gamers,
that is not from some mega gaming website that we all hate who gives out nothing but sixes and sevens for really good games.
The site that shall not be named.
Support your podcast, people.
You can do that on Patreon.
There's a link in the episode description.
Guys, we got a lot of games to talk about.
Y'all ready to talk about some May releases?
You all ready for this?
I thought April was heavy.
Oh, my God.
Yeah.
We just, so not to tout our pre-show, but our pre-show was 28 minutes long,
so you get a whole other episode before the episode where we just debated live which
games to actually cover.
We may have had a business meeting.
We didn't make a decision either because we don't, we're not good at this.
So we want to know what games.
We'll bring them up when we get there, people, but we want to hear from you.
So leave a comment on which game you want us to cover when we get to the two games that we're torn between because we want to know what you think.
All right, boys, I'm super, I'm super excited for this game.
I just rewatch the trailer on this one, and it got me so amped up all over again.
The first game coming out in May that we are going to be talking about is mixtape.
Now, we talked about this game like two and a half years ago when it first got announced.
Yeah. For people that don't know, mixtape is a coming of age game where it is the last night of high school before the summer break and you were done with high school. It is a group of friends. It has one of the most killer soundtracks for a game that I have seen in a long time. I mean, this is all of the mixtape from Guardians of the Galaxy type type music going on. I mean, maybe Tony Hawk's pro skater level of, of, of,
music going on in this game.
But this is kind of like a
narrative adventure where
you play as one of these teenagers,
you are hanging out with your friends
and that you are going through
the memories of high school
and the memories of your friends that you had as a teen.
Guys, this game hits the
nostalgia hard for me.
Josh is so stinking excited
for this game because he's going to relive his youth
in the 80s. This is like,
this is hitting. It was the greatest.
decade, Ryan. It was the
greatest day. I know. I agree.
No, no, no. I just watched
Big Trouble in Little China last night.
Oh, that movie is so good. I love that movie.
That movie is amazing.
Amazing. I love 80s movies so much.
I watched it last night on a whim and I was like, I
freaking love everything about the 80s, everything.
Including anything that references
like the high school days. Mix tape looks phenomenal.
I know I'm excited. Are you guys excited for this one?
I'm excited for this one, but I feel like it's going to
hurt my feelings. Like, it's going to be
one of those things is like reliving these kind of moments is kind of painful.
But also I do enjoy these kind of life is strange style games where it's a narrative adventure.
Why you laugh and my mute it.
I just saw Ryan,
Ryan changed the name of the episode.
Oh, I did that ages ago.
No, Ace did that.
Well, one of you guys did it and I just saw it.
I was going to add to it, but I got distracted, you know, Retriever.
No, I think McSafe's going to be great.
Because you were homeschool days, so you kind of missed the high school.
I kind of missed all this.
I kind of, I live it through other experiences like this.
So I did not get the opportunity for this kind of thing.
But with the killer soundtrack like that, it's going to be one interesting voyage.
I feel like this is the game that's going to like make you emotional, man.
Oh, absolutely.
You know, for the good old days or the times missed or the friends lost or any of that stuff, dude.
Like, there are gameplay elements to this.
This isn't like Firewatch, what remains of Edith Finch.
Like, you know, there's a really cool art style for mixtape as well.
If you have not checked this out, you need to look at mixtape.
We are all three very excited for this game.
I think it's going to be that real, real kick of nostalgia.
I think with the soundtrack that goes with it, this is going to be something memorable.
I don't know how good the gameplay elements are going to be, but this is, it's almost like I don't care.
Sometimes you don't watch for, like, I mean, like certain movies you don't watch for the in-depth story or the romance.
you watch because there's explosions and big booms.
You know, you watch an action movie for that.
So I think this is more along the lines of you're here to play this narrative story
and you're there to kind of more experience than anything else.
And I think that every time I look at it and watch it, like I get goosebumps.
Because it's something that I think will draw people back to just the realization and the reality of just, you know,
the simplicity of life and how,
things don't have to be so complicated and just experiencing the world and just feeling music
and feeling everything.
Like, I think there's something to that.
And I think it'll be a good kind of centering type game that'll kind of bring you down to
earth, you know, in that realm.
Yeah.
Yeah.
I trust Anna Perna as well to do something like this.
They are a very high quality studio.
They only put out honestly really good games.
So am I the only one that thinks it's really weird that we are four days away from release?
And I am not seeing anything about.
this game, dude.
Just early state trailer.
That's it.
I know.
Like, so, I mean, we love talking about games and putting games on people's radars, you know,
and I don't want to tutor own horn, but we put a lot of really good games out there
that wind up being really good.
So all I'm saying is check out mixed state people.
The three of us are very excited for it.
It comes out May 7th.
So this week, it's coming out.
I cannot wait to dive into this one.
It's coming out on PC, PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch 2.
So it's going to be on all platforms.
No excuses.
Yeah, exactly.
All right, moving on.
This one I'm a little iffy on.
I've seen people be excited for this one.
I don't know what to think on this.
It's Directive 80-20.
So this is super massive games.
So the same developers that made like the Quarry.
Until Dawn.
Yeah, Until Dawn.
I did not like the Quarry, but a lot of that was the dumb teen characters and just, I don't know.
You would have liked Until Dawn.
I feel like it would have liked Until Dawn.
on. Yeah, you would have. So Directive 8020 is set in a setting that I like a lot more than dumb
teenagers out in the middle of the forest getting themselves killed by a murderer because that's
every horror show ever. But Directive 8020 takes place out in outer space on a haunted
derelict spaceship or something. And then this is this is your super massive game. You know,
it is narrative driven. You have to make choices on the fly sometimes that have repercussions.
Characters are going to die. Your decisions affect the outcome of the game.
this looks much darker and grittier than some of their other games, in my opinion.
I'm just a little torn on this one because, again, I really didn't enjoy the quarry that much.
So it's like, we're coming off of that.
What do you guys think on this one?
This looks a lot closer to like the Dark Pictures anthology with how much more gritty and realistic it's going for,
which I will say until dawn was very gritty and realistic.
I don't know much about the quarry.
I assume it wasn't super gritty or realistic.
But I mean, it's, it was a horror.
It was just, I don't know.
Yeah, I know you guys were not big on it.
That's what I remember.
Uh, but Directive 8020, I think has something very interesting going for it with the couch co-op of up to five players.
That, oh, I didn't know it was up to five.
Yeah.
Oh.
That could keep me interested, uh, through a game like this.
If I have other people sitting there with me, like you guys always talk about playing through heavy rain together.
Where someone's sitting like next to you while you play being involved in a,
story like that where you get to make your own choices
just sounds cool.
Save Ace and Josh. No.
No. No.
Save your friends or run for your life.
Yeah, I'm glad you brought this up, Ace, because
this to me is one of the really, really
cool things about this game is it will
have online multiplayer as well,
but I'm pretty sure that's not at launch, but it does have this
five-person couch co-op mode where you
can make it basically a party game
and each person controls a different character and gets
to make the decisions for that character.
I can see that being a lot of fun.
This is like an interactive show at this point.
I can also see it starting fights when someone's character dies.
Oh, yeah.
What did you see?
You got me killed.
Yeah.
What am I supposed to do?
Don't you leave me, Ace?
Don't you leave me?
No.
So there you go.
Directive 80, 20.
If it's your kind of game, I do think this game looks good.
I think this does look like it's going to be a step up from the quarry.
looks freaky.
The decisions that you have to make, like I said, there's a lot going on here.
This one comes out May 12th for PC, Xbox, and PlayStation.
So sorry, Switch people.
Guys, this is, this one's killing me, dude.
Oh, I know it's eating you alive inside.
Because Subnautica 2, the malign development lawsuits that we have covered on this show between Crafton and Unknown Worlds,
who's the developer for Subnotica and Subnotica 2.
All of that stuff seems like it's been put to bed.
Subnotica 2 is launching into early access on May 14th.
Now, anybody that has listened to this show for a while
knows that I absolutely adore Subnotica.
It's a phenomenal game.
I am dying for Subnotica 2,
especially because it was developed with multiplayer in mind.
And yet, it's early access, which I despise.
on games that I'm really excited for.
So I am doing everything I can to say I'm holding off on Subnotica 2.
But you know what's going to happen is freaking everybody in our Discord server is going to start playing it and talking about it.
And I'm going to get the FOMO.
And then we're going to wind up playing Subnotica 2.
Yeah.
I don't want to play Subnotica 2 yet.
That's exactly what's going to happen.
I am glad you've come around a little more like to my side for the early access.
I just, I hate it, man.
Finish the game and then release it.
We're not your game testers.
Like if you want to do it, we'll do a beta and we'll do some tests for you and stuff.
But I don't know.
I'm just never been a big fan of the early access, but I really feel like we'll probably get FOMO and we'll hop in.
Because I'm sure it's mostly done and there'll be some kinks here and there.
It's not mostly done.
It's like halfway done if that.
Well, yeah, mostly what we'll play.
This is the curse of my brain because when I play a game and then I'm done playing the game,
I cannot go back to a game very easily.
Like it's very rare that I can do that.
I can.
Yeah.
But it's very rare.
You know what I mean?
And so this is why I'm trying to hold off on Subnotica 2's early access.
I don't know that we'll be successful.
But for anybody that's willing to dive in, you know, it's May 14th.
Hipe them up.
Hipe them up in the Discord.
I want to play this so bad.
If you're a fan of Subnotica, you want to play this really, really bad too.
You don't need us to tell you how great it looks.
We don't have to say anything about Subnodica you haven't heard.
already heard basically.
All the trailers, the graphical upgrades, the multiplayer aspect, like everything screams
this game looks amazing.
It's more of what we want from Subnotica.
I'm just trying to resist the urge.
So there you go.
May 14th on that one, people.
Don't tell me how good this early access is.
If you like it, just keep it to yourself, people.
Do it.
I'm a weak man.
I can't break down on this, man.
You're still trying to fight the early access for Far Far West.
See, there's another example.
plays because I think Far Far West is great.
It's a fantastic. I love Far Far West.
I'm seeing people playing Far Far West,
and it's like, I'm the dude that's looking in through the window going like,
I want to play Far Far West.
But you know what? I want to play it when it's done.
I don't want to play it now when it's not done.
You're absolutely.
And then I won't play it when it does come out.
You're that one SpongeBob mean of Squidward looking at his window and looking at Patrick
and SpongeBob playing in the other.
Yes.
Yes.
Makes me and you go have fun.
Yeah, exactly.
Josh can just watch us.
If you two, I'll, I'm not, yeah, he's a weak man.
I'm not a strong man.
I was going to say I'll get mad, but I won't get mad.
I'll just break down right away.
I'll be like, let's go, boys.
All of a sudden we'll see our little steam indicator pop up.
Josh is playing far far west, you know, jolly old troll far west.
Oh, man.
I don't know.
All right.
I'll tell you what, let's take a quick break, boys.
And then we're going to talk about Forsa Horizon 6, a very, very, very little.
anticipated game for May for a lot of people. We'll be right back to talk about that after this break.
All right. We're back talking about Yoshi and the mysterious book. I'm kidding. I'm kidding. I'm kidding. I was like, wait a minute. I know. I'm just joking. I'm just joking because we get murdered, dude.
Oh, there's a lot of people for sure. Oh, man. You know how I know this because the last time we talked about this, I called it a, a, uh,
a sim racer?
Yep.
You know?
And people like,
Forza's not a sim racer.
Like,
what are you an idiot?
And I was like,
oh my gosh,
guys.
Like,
well,
yes, obviously I am.
Yeah.
Yeah, duh.
Because, you know,
it's like the cars are really
realistic and so are the physics,
but that doesn't make it a sim racer,
guys.
You know,
there's other sim racers that are way more lifelike
than Forza Horizon 6.
Do you know why?
Because you can go really fast
and do jumps in Forza Horizon 6
that don't just wreck your car.
right away.
You guys heard Josh's feelings is what he's saying.
Yeah.
I know.
I don't know these things.
You like he's a car guy.
I don't like racing games, guys.
Josh, I'm excited for this.
I'm excited for this.
I am.
Tell me why.
I have not.
So I've always been a Grand Tresmo guy or, you know, I've loved racing games.
I've never been a big into SIM or arcade or all that stuff.
I'll play certain ones here and there.
But I do enjoy Grand Tresmo, the old Midnight Clubs, Need for
speed underground and all that stuff and you know forza um i haven't bought one in a long time i think
the last grand treasmo was like grand treasmo seven or something that i got uh forza six looks
so good it looks it looks it looks it looks absolutely breathtakingly beautiful um it has all
these kind of realistic modes with like regular track racing circuit racing um looked like
there was rally stuff that you could do um with cool rally cars i just it's it's a
about time for me to get another racing game like that.
Not a sim,
not a sim,
an arcade or a sim or whatever you want to call it.
I don't know what you call it.
Yeah,
whatever you want to call it.
I am excited for it.
Like you said,
you got in the show dock 550 cars.
It's got,
you know,
anything you could want,
upgrades,
you know,
accessories.
And again,
it's just absolutely beautiful.
I am.
Place in Japan,
which is going to make for some beautiful scenery.
Oh,
that'll be nice.
are always so good there yeah i just i love this style and every once in a while i get in like
a racing car mode like for games and and so this is i think it's about time when i when i watch the
trailer a few times i'm like it's time it's time it i played forza horizon five uh okay i
probably put in 10 hours honestly into forza horizon five i was i was exactly like you ryan i was
like i haven't played a racing game in a really long time this game looks fantastic i did enjoy it
I'm just not much of a sim racer
or whatever this blend of
it's not a sim racer. We're going to get...
It's an arcade racer.
In the comments again.
No, it's not an arcade racer either.
It's something different where it's like mostly simulation
but a little bit of like you can jump your...
I'm not, I'm going to tell you, Google calls an arcade-style racing game.
It's no cruise in the world, man.
Double tap for the wheelie.
Now, if you want to talk about Galactic Racer
and talk about it in a, you know,
a racing and then I'm excited about...
There you go.
Ace is like, like, you can't talk about it.
about Galactic racer and Forza Horizon in the same sentence? What are you doing, Josh?
I'm going to get us killed. Yeah, one's going to be a lot better than the other.
I'm not going to say which. I'm not going to say which.
Oh, man. There you go. I look. I'll stick to crash, Nitro cart. Thank you.
Forza Games, absolutely immaculate. I can see why people are super excited for this one.
We're just not really big racing game guys. But, you know, it's coming out.
this month probably one of the biggest releases of the month so there you go that comes out may
19th for xbox and pc sorry playstation people it is going to be exclusive for a little while so
all right yoshi in the mysterious book here's for all this is for all our nintendo switch two people
this is for all our cozy game people this is for all our mario people my wife's probably
listening outside the door so to make sure that i talk about this game uh this is nintendo's next
big release for May.
This game looks mind-numbing to me, guys.
I can't.
I mean, like, my brain just hurt for how dumb this game looks to me.
My wife is already talking about this.
She is very, very excited for this game.
She loves Yoshi.
She loves these cozy type games.
I just think this game looks really, really dumb.
It looks very simple.
I don't mean this in a nice.
negative way, but it also looks like it's made for like five year olds like to like,
but Josh, the flowers, they did great things. The flowers. Did you watch the trailer for this
one because I'm like watching this trailer and I'm like, please let this trailer be over. I don't want
to watch this trailer anymore. The only thing that was worse than the trailer was the narration of the
trailer. Yes. I, I hated that guy's voice. I know. Prop Sam, I'm sure he's a good dude. But man,
that was just not the style that I wanted to hear
when he's describing it, but yes.
The dandelions can be used to crack the boulder.
Wow. Oh my gosh.
Way to go.
Yoshi.
People are going to love it.
It's going to sell a bazillion copies.
Oh, yeah.
It's going to sell one for sure because my wife has already been like,
I'm getting this game the day it comes out.
And I'm like, yes, baby, you're getting this game.
It's just not for us.
It's not our style.
I think it agreed.
I think it looks super simple and just kind of very,
bland and let's just make a
Yoshi game is what it would it feel like to me.
They are all relatively simple
side scrolling collectathon
2D platformers or 2.5D
platformers. They're all basically the same
and they all try to go for this different like
arts and crafts aesthetic
like there's ones made of wool, there's ones that
look like they're like drawn with crayon.
Yeah. Actually, Yoshi's
Willy World is actually really good. I'll say that.
Yeah, my wife loves that one too. That was really good.
All right, well, here we go, boys. Let's talk about
two really good looking games for this month.
We like to troll a little bit, Nintendo, but I know there's a lot of people that are excited for Yoshi.
Like Ryan said, it's just not our particular style of game, but we're happy that there's a lot of people that are excited for it, which is why we are also mentioning on this show, because we want to remind people that it is coming out.
So, all right, zero parades for dead spies, boys.
I'm not going to lie.
I'm freaking excited for this game, dude.
We don't get into politics.
We don't get into a lot of studio drama.
We know that there are going to be people that are going to boycott this game because of the way that Zom treated their developers.
That is all out there on the internet if you want to research more of that.
All I know is I get excited about really good looking video games and I want to play really good looking video games.
And to me, zero parades for dead spies looks fantastic.
This is the spiritual successor to disco elysium, which I think is a phenomenal game.
And this game looks like it is right up that same vein.
I actually like the setting on Zero Parades a little bit more.
It's got a little bit more of like a technology kind of cyberpunkky vibe to it or something.
This comes out May 21st for PC only.
I'm in.
I'm in on this one, boys.
This game looks fantastic.
I actually watched a, I watched.
I watched a preview.
Somebody got to play it for like a couple hours,
and they said this game might actually be better
than Disco Elysium.
Oh, okay.
Oh, heck yeah.
Yeah.
So that gets me real excited.
So lightning may strike twice, is what you're saying.
Dude, they made one of the best non-combat RPGs ever.
Let's hope they do it again.
And it will launch with voice acting.
Yeah, that's true.
Yes, they learn that less.
Yeah.
Go figure.
People like to hear stuff.
to me, Zero Parades for Dead Spies is a must-play game.
If you liked Disco Elysium, then there's, I can't imagine not playing this game if you want more of that.
I mean, they know what they're doing.
Again, you can get into the politics and the drama for the studio, but our job is to point out very, very good video games to you guys in this game.
It looks like it's a really good video.
Or at least like worst case, you wait one day and you'll know if it's going to be good or not.
Like people will talk.
Yeah, people will tell you.
Maybe, because I have a feeling this game's going to get review bombed right off the route from people that are...
Well, yes, because there's going to be people that are mad at the studio.
And they're going to be like, you guys suck because you treated your developers poorly.
And so they're going to review bomb it.
Well, the kind of the funny thing is, I've never seen anyone say they were going to review bomb it.
All the, like, comments just say, can't wait to pirate this game.
Yeah. Okay.
I mean...
I'll take a pirated copy, please.
Can't wait to pirate this game.
Yeah, so there you go.
If you haven't watched a trailer for,
for Zero Parades for Dead Spies.
Again, you should watch that, but this looks, it has so much of the disco-elisium DNA all over it.
It looks like a crime scene.
I mean, this is going to-
Over, over under day one, 75%.
Over or under?
Oh, day one?
Yeah.
It's going to be under.
You think so with the bomb?
Okay.
I think so.
I mean, I hope not because let's be honest.
You know, the reviews are to let people know if a game is good, not what your belief on the studio is.
If I'm a betting man, I'm going to say it's going to get review bombs, but I'm very excited for this game.
So, all right.
So here's what we mentioned at the top of the show, because we are torn between zero parades for Dead Spies releasing May 21st.
And a game that could not be any more different than that, which is Lego Batman Legacy of the Dark Night, which comes out May 22nd for PlayStation Xbox and PC.
guys, I know that people love Lego games.
I can't remember what Lego game I played.
I was at a friend's house.
I think it was Lego Star Wars for a little bit.
I know people love these games.
I just don't play the Lego games.
They're generally kind of basic in a lot of ways.
And also, I'm not a Lego guy.
So that part doesn't really resonate with me.
However, that said, this game looks awesome, dude.
It does.
I have never been excited for a Lego game in my life,
except for this one, man.
This game looks great.
I agree, dude.
Like you said about the way the games are.
I think most of them are all just kind of the same game just with different skins,
just a different Lego skin.
They're Lego Harry Potter, Lego Star Wars, you know, whatever it may be.
But this one, like you said, this does, it's like, it's like a Lego Arkham.
and it looks the battle,
the combat mobile looks awesome,
the,
the Batmobile
looks freaking sweet.
Like,
this looks like it genuinely,
like it's something that I would totally want to play
with my nine-year-old son,
but I would probably check it out a little bit on my own too.
I mean,
I grew up with the Lego games.
Like I played pretty much every single one
on the freaking Wii,
which is probably the worst console to play Lego games on.
But this seems like they actually did take that formula of
what the simplicity of a Lego game is,
and they evolved it finally.
And they're also doing it with Batman,
who has one of the most interesting stories
and history throughout media
that we get to retrace through this game.
Because, like, it said you're doing the movies,
you're doing some of the TV shows.
You're doing, like, the Arkham games.
Like, there is so much that you get to cover in this game,
and that's just really cool.
There's a lot of different, like, set pieces
where you see the Batmobile,
so I'm assuming, you know,
you're going to be driving that.
You're doing the combat.
You're doing all the different gadgets
that Batman has and uses.
I did see a video, too,
that was talking about how with most Lego games,
you get to play as like 30 different characters or something,
and they really try to have just a ton of, like,
cameos and characters in it,
which kind of dilutes the game a little bit.
Whereas this one, they're really focusing.
It's just Batman.
You do get to play as like Commissioner Gordon
and Catwoman and a couple other playable characters.
But they said they really tried to streamline
this one to focus on the gameplay portion of it.
So I think that's probably why
interests me way more than other Lego games
because it's like I think there's a really,
really good video game under here
that's not just trying to capitalize
on like being a fan of Lego and things like that.
So we're torn, people.
So we want to know what you think
because these games come out one day apart.
And here is the hard part about doing a gaming podcast, right?
is that we can't play both games at the same time.
My thinking is everybody knows what Lego games are,
and if you're excited about Lego Batman,
you're going to pick it up and play it anyway.
So do you really need our review on that?
However, Lego Batman is a huge release for the month,
so it's like we should probably cover the big release.
However, Zero Parades for Dead Spies is a lesser-known game
that I think more people are going to want to know our opinion on
to go, is this game great?
or isn't it.
So we want to know, leave us a comment,
what game you want us to deep dive, okay?
Because we will be deep diving one of these games
and we want to know what you think.
So leave a comment on this episode
and let us know which one and why.
We do read all the comments
and we will take those into consideration
because honestly we're torn.
We don't know yet.
All right.
Guys, this next game, I'll be honest,
I never even heard about
until I was doing research for this month.
And then where the heck did this game come?
from, dude, because this game looks pretty
legit, and it's a
game called Relic First Guardian.
This is an Asian-inspired
Souls-like game that releases on May 26th.
This game looks
way better than it
has any business looking, dude,
for a game I've never heard of.
It looks so good. It looks so
unbelievably good. And it's not
just the same, like, scenery or
setting, too. Like, there's this, like,
beautiful sunlit, uh,
field that you're in with
it's like wheatgrass like you're fighting throughout
and then it's it's like the depths of hell
almost looking you know with like lava pits
and then it's like a dark like misty forest
there's all these different settings it all looks beautiful
the combat looks awesome it looks amazing
it looks clean um man
I don't know those sounds dude those sounds
of the blades hitting the ding ding ding ding
on those perfect parries it's like oh this takes me back
to Sekaro now we're back it's like
it's like Sekiro and Eldon Ring had a
child.
That's a good comp, dude.
Like, legitimately, I don't, I've never heard of this game before.
Not a once.
Like I said, I saw it on a list for May releases.
I was like, let me just look into this because, you know, doing what good podcasters
do.
We're digging into these things.
I start watching this trailer.
I'm like, what the heck?
How have I not heard of this game before?
But the animation, this looks like a high quality Dark Souls game, dude.
Like you've got melee.
They showed off like some magic use.
So, you know, it looks like maybe they're copying Eldon Ring where you have your different builds that you can do.
But between the animations, the scenery, the combat, the flow of it, all of this looks really, really good.
I wish it had a demo or something so we could give you firsthand experience on this one.
But you should look at this game.
If you were a fan of Soulslight games, the Relic First Guardian.
I know it's on PC.
I didn't look up to see what else it's coming out on if it's coming out on a console.
You just posted it?
Yep.
Okay.
So yeah, I mean, this one deserves, you know, Ryan will put the names of the games in there for people as well so you can remember.
But man, oh, it's coming out on PlayStation.
Okay.
It's coming out on just about everything except for Switch.
Yeah, everything but Switch.
Yeah, everything but Switch.
People rejoice.
Look up Relic the first guardian.
How have we not heard of this?
That's what I want to know.
I don't know, dude.
I don't. The only thing I can think of is that there are a
gajillion souls like clones out there. And so it's like,
how do you stand out? It is a very flooded. This one's standing out a little bit. It looks good.
Yeah, it looks great. It does look great. Yeah. So there you go. All right. And then last,
but certainly not least in May, guys, we have 007 First Light. We've seen a ton of hype for this game. We've covered it multiple times on the show.
This is your James Bond game. It is made by the developers.
of the Hitman series, so IEO Interactive.
I've been seeing a lot of gameplay.
I mean, they're not afraid to show this game off.
They're not afraid to show off a lot of the gadgets,
the cars, the driving sequences,
the stealth sequences, the combat sequences.
I mean, this game looks like it has it all.
I'm very excited for this one.
Yeah, me too.
This looks like a phenomenal game, in my opinion.
Ryan, do you like Uncharted?
I kind of maybe, maybe you've played it once or twice.
I maybe kind of like it.
What about Hitman?
How do you feel about Hitman, Ryan?
I think I like, I think I like Hitman just a little bit, just a little bit.
What if they were all one game and then you also got to be a super bad A spy?
I will love it.
I'm in.
Count me in, baby.
I'm in.
That's what this looks like.
This looks like uncharted and Hitman, like genuinely.
It does.
This game looks fantastic.
It really, this is one of my more anticipated games for the year.
I don't see how this.
game bombs, to be honest. I think this is going to be a phenomenal experience. I've been watching a lot of
pre-pre-release footage and stuff like that. I've seen a lot of people they got to go to the preview
event, very, very high praise. The only negative response that I saw to this game was from a guy
that is just a hitman stand that loves hitman more than anything. And he was like, this isn't
hitman. They lost their way. This isn't hitman. And I'm like, no, because it's James Bond.
Of course it's not hit, man.
That's not Agent 47.
That is James Bond.
Somebody else.
And it's been a while too, man.
We haven't, like, we haven't had a real legitimate James Bond like 007 games since 2012.
I've never played one.
Oh, really?
Uh-uh.
Not a one.
Wait, you never have played anything other than Gold and I, dude.
I've never played a James Bond game other than Golden I.
What?
Really?
Yeah, man.
Yeah, really.
That's how few we've gotten.
Geez.
Unless you've been living under a rock,
you've probably heard of 007 First Light.
If you have not watched gameplay for this,
you absolutely should.
This game looks incredible.
I mean, it looks like it clicks all the right boxes,
action, story, memorable character, fun gameplay,
like I said, car sequences, all this stuff.
The game is designed so that you can kind of approach your missions
in various ways.
So you can go stealth,
you can go knocking people out,
you can go gadgets, that kind of thing.
So you approach these missions,
kind of how you want to approach them,
which I love as well,
that freedom of choice.
Very, very excited for this one.
This comes out May 27th on PC, Xbox, and PlayStation.
And then that wraps up the May releases.
Now, look, before people start coming after us
and you're like, well, what about this game and what about that game?
Guys, there's like 50 games that release every month.
We can't cover everything.
There are other games that we are excited about,
but we can't mention every game to people
because then they start to blend together.
And we want to put the good games in front of you.
That's not to say that some games that we didn't mention
aren't good, but these are the games
that we feel like need to be on people's radar.
So if you are excited for a game that we didn't mention,
let us know about it in the comments.
I did a lot of digging on this one.
That's how we found Relic, the First Guardian.
you know so but we like I said we're you know we're we're we're gamers and we miss things sometimes
we read all the comments we'll check it out too so yeah and then real quick just as a piece of news
because I personally am excited for this one path of exile two is getting a major patch May 29th that
is supposed to revamp the entire end game for path of exile too I might actually go back and
revisit path of exile too I'm kind of in the mood for that that's what you said about Diablo
four I don't guys I I installed Diablo four yesterday and
And I uninstalled Diablo 4 this morning, guys.
This is why I was saying I might go back to Path of Exile 2,
because I think Path of Exile 2 is light years better than Diablo 4, in my opinion.
Hot take.
Dude, why give me a toolbar with a bunch of skills,
and then I can't slot all those skills onto a toolbar?
This is Diablo 4's biggest thing to me is it's like,
you give me all these skills, and then I can only activate like five of them at a time.
You know, and it's like, this is beautiful game.
It's just, I don't know.
I only have five magical abilities at once.
Oh my gosh.
Oh.
I just, dude, let me play the game the way I want.
I should have 12 different skills, man.
You know, it's on me how I use them.
So, all right.
Anyway, listen, there you go.
There's your May release.
So real quick, mixtape May 7th.
Directive 8020, May 12th.
Subnotica 2's early access, May 14th.
Forza Horizon 6, May 19th.

Zero parades for.
Dead Spies, May 21st, Lego Batman, Legacy of the Dark Night, May 22nd, Relic First Guardian, May 26th,
007 First Light, May 27th. May is packed, boys. It is packed. My goodness, let us know what game
you want us to cover, whether it's zero parades for Dead Spies or Lego Batman Legacy of the Dark
Night. That's the choice that we need you to help us make, so leave a comment on that. That's
going to do it for this episode, everybody.
