Oh, fellow gamers, and welcome to the VideoGamers Podcast.
October is here.
Halloween is on its way, and the indie scene is bringing us absolutely stacked lineups of games.
From creepy survival horror and strange experimental adventures,
there's a little bit of everything hidden this month,
as if we didn't have enough to play already.
I am your host, Ace,
and he may have stole all of my big name indies for the live show,
but to his chagrin, I used that as an excuse to find some pretty niche ones.
It's Josh.
stealing is a little bit of a harsh term, Ace.
Okay, we borrowed them because...
You stole from me.
Yeah, well, they are the big indies of the month,
and we want people to...
Yeah, and then you play to my face about it.
Yeah, you know what you do.
Also, I want you to know something, Ace.
I have determined that I'm going to say something nice
about every game on this episode.
I have a feeling there's one of these games
that you're not going to be able to do that, too.
I'm going to say something nice.
about every one of these games.
Stay tuned, folks.
Stay tuned, everybody.
And this whole episode will be completely pointless for him because he's already got a
pretty full plate of games with Destiny 2 and Galactic Razzer.
It's Ryan.
What are you bringing up Destiny 2 for?
Because you're an addict.
Don't tell people.
Listen, I've got over 2,000 hours in Destiny and I've still not addicted.
So I don't know what you're talking about.
Ryan, like, rolling back.
We just talked about this, man.
We just talked about, like, how, like, gamers should just be so quick to forgive Bungy
and how, like, the industry's never going to change if all they have to do is issue an apology video.
And then, like, all of a sudden, Ryan sends us a photo and it's him playing Destiny 2 on two different PCs.
We had four.
We had four going.
And then I was just, like, Ryan, like, yeah.
I'm not proud of it.
I'm not proud of it, but I'm back.
We're so back, baby.
All his content unvolted.
We are so back.
And then we played a bunch of Fall Guys, which is also, aka Bean Game, the best game.
Fall Guys is so much fun.
It's a fun time.
But yeah, I came crawling back to Destiny.
Gosh, it's so good, dude.
I can't wait until that.
You know what?
When Destiny 2 kicks you somewhere.
Oh, I'm the first to, like, call it back out.
I will destroy it.
That's what you get.
That's what you get, Ryan.
I'm just going to say.
I like the pain.
Yeah.
All right, guys.
The long-awaited month is here.
We are at October.
This is the long-awaited month.
It is.
We've been talking about it like for a while now.
It's like way till October.
When we get to October, that's when everything changes.
We're not wrong.
There's quite a few big releases, but there's a few indie releases as well.
Starting with when I've actually been playing, surprisingly, end of abyss.
Which is, it comes from the other half.
of the Little Nightmares development team
that didn't end up joining Tarsier Studios
you would think, oh, that's a bummer.
No.
This is basically Little Nightmares
if you got to have a gun.
It is a top-down 3D action horror
Metroidvania
that is also a twin stick shooter.
And so far, it's basically
Dead Space Little Nightmares.
Really?
Dude, this game looks so good to me.
It looks so cool.
It's actually been pretty good so far.
Has it really really?
dude. Yeah, that's awesome.
I almost stole this one. I almost stole this one.
I almost stole this one for our live show.
Legitimately.
Legitimate. And then I was like, I can't do this.
I know. And that's why I didn't.
But like this game actually looks really good.
Like I'm kind of tempted to like, like put this on my wish list and make sure that I actually
wind up checking this one out because I love twin stick shooters.
I don't know why, but they're always just fun to me.
but you mix that with this like atmospheric horror little nightmares element.
And I've been watching some trailers on this.
And I've been seeing you playing it.
And I'm like, I think Ace is really liking this game.
And this game looks really good to me.
So I'm at, how is it, Ace?
Oh, it's punishing.
I'll tell you that.
Oh, okay.
That's all you had to do.
You know it's.
Ace knows what he's doing.
Take it.
Ammo for your better weapons is limited.
And if you die, you do not get.
it back. You lose all that. You lose
consumables after death, so you have to craft
more. I'll just say it's going. I don't use consumables
anyway. You're right.
You got to save them for another time. You'll use the grenades
and the fliers, trust me. You'll want them.
It is a punishing,
very atmospheric, very fun
game so far. That's the word
is just from watching the trailer and seeing
the screenshots and stuff, the
atmosphere just looks
like everything I would want
to play. It looks so cool.
It looks like something that you would
get drawn into and you'd play for a couple hours just to get into that world.
Yeah, dude.
And then you saying that, you know, it's punishing and it's difficult game, like,
all the more for it.
Like, it's, this one I'm excited for.
I mean, I've never seen a Metroidvania that combines this many elements all at once.
It doesn't even feel like a Metroidvania.
We'll have the trailer in the episode notes, but I mean, this is one, again, you kind of
have to see it.
The twin stick shooter with the little red laser beam going through.
the creepy elements and then you see some of these
fantastic creatures and stuff.
Like, I'm super curious about this one.
I'm going to put you on the spot, Ace.
If you had to rate it right now, what would you rate it?
Right now, just as far as I am
right now, it's a solid eight.
I think it can get better. It could get worse, depending
where things go. But right now it's good.
Yeah, that's pretty good. Yeah, and it looks like an eight.
Honestly, it kind of looks like an eight out of ten game.
Like, this one looks really good. And that's not a bad thing.
It's also only 30 bucks. I should mention
that.
Yeah.
But yeah, it came out October 1st.
Wait a minute.
You called this a Metroidvania?
Yeah.
How is this a, it's a twin stick shooter little nightmares.
It's just because it's got a map and progression and like you come back with different
ability.
It's just like the word is everything becoming a Metroidvania to Ace now.
It's like he's slipping deeper and deeper into the like the dark side.
My eyes roll.
My eyes roll back into my head and I just come back to us.
Come back to us.
Hey.
Have you guys
Go back?
Here's a war
Metroidvania?
Hold the door.
Hold the door.
So,
so because,
wait,
so a game has a map,
it's a Metroidvania now?
What is happening?
A map and progression,
Josh.
Hello.
That's a map and progression.
And you come back
with new abilities
and you're able to access new areas.
I was asking about that too.
I was thinking in my head.
I'm like,
what does he mean,
Metroidvania?
I'm like,
I'm so used to A.
saying the word Metroidvania that my brain
didn't process it for like a really long
time until finally I was like
I've watched this trailer I've watched multiple
trailers on this game
how is this a Metroidvania
Listeners let us know if you think it's a
Metroidvania or not
So you do back back
I see.
Please call it.
Everything I see says it's a Metroidvania
Okay take off your Metroidvania glasses
and look at these games
Oh wow it's just a video game
Oh, whoops
Whoops my bad
Yeah, it came out October 1st.
It dropped on PC, but here's the kicker.
It is an Epic Games exclusive right now.
It is published by Epic Games.
So if you're looking for it on Steam, you can't find it.
That is why, I, e. me.
I couldn't find it on Steam.
I was like, what?
But it's also on PS5 and Xbox Series X&S.
Dude, if this gets them the money they needed to make this game, it's whatever.
Like, this looks like a really good game, people.
So go to Epic and take a look at it.
It's also had a lot of, like, quality of life patches and stuff already put into it for some of the things that early reviewers complained about.
So, good deal.
Yeah.
All right.
Man, I hate that these two released so close to each other.
Oh, what game is this?
What game is this, A game called Silver Pines.
It also happens to be a survival horror Metroidvania.
All right.
Now take your glasses off and then tell us what it is again.
Whoa, whoa.
Oh, I can't see that, Ryan.
It's too blurry.
But you're calling this a Metroidvania 2?
This is actually a Metrovania, yes.
Did I watch the wrong trailer?
This is the one with the detective in the, no, this is the detective in like the little, I'm watching this.
How is this a Metrovania?
He can't believe it could possibly be a Metroidvania.
My world has turned upside down, dude.
This don't look like no Metroidvania.
Well, you don't usually see survival horror mixed with Metroidvania because they're not really a compatible thing.
Metroidvania's you're supposed to feel like kind of all powerful, like that you're taking on bosses over and over again.
And survival horror, you're punished for making mistakes.
Yep.
Like you lose, you know, items.
You lose health.
Like things like that permanently.
But a Metroidvania, you're not used to that.
But it's a survival horror metrovania is set in a dying American town where you explore a creepy, interconnected world and uncover a mystery.
It's kind of got a really unique look to it.
It's kind of like, uh, IRL, but with a cell.
shaded filter over it.
Yeah.
It is incredibly unique.
How do you guys show about this one?
I'm trying to find another trailer on this because the one you linked us didn't show me
enough.
And I do agree.
That was the most recent trailer I dropped.
I do think the art style in this game looks really cool.
This one, I like the atmosphere to it.
I like this like survival horror element to it.
It's like, I mean, it's a neat looking game between the art style and the creepy stuff
popping out.
I kind of thought this was like a point-click adventure,
because that's what it looks like to me.
It kind of looks like that at first, doesn't that?
Yeah, it does.
So that's what really threw me off when you called it a Metroidvania again,
where it was like, no, this is a point-and-click adventure.
It is not.
But apparently, I don't know what the heck makes a Metroidvania anymore.
No, it does.
It's a lot like the other game, too, where, like, the atmosphere,
like, there is also some pretty crazy depth to, like, the visuals.
Like, you can see in the background,
like crows flying way off in the distance
and the forest runs pretty far
and you know signs and lighting lights flickering
and there is a lot here
yeah I mean
incredibly impressive so far
yeah it looks it looks awesome
it has a demo on Steam for anyone who wants to try it
I don't know how long the demo is going to be up
but if you want to try it demo is up
it releases October 8th for PC
PS5 Xbox series XNS and Nintendo Switch 1 and 2
well you know I'm always up for another
Metroidvania
And that is today, apparently.
I've been informed that this episode releases on October 8th.
So today, that demo is probably not up.
I will say, this game looks really well developed, in my opinion.
It does.
This is not one of those ones where I'm like, Ace, where did you dig this up at?
You know, this is, which we say quite often, by the way.
Yes, we do.
But this one actually looks pretty neat.
The art style is cool.
Like there's a part where the guy's interacting with the phone and you actually have to, like, put the quarter in and push the buttons.
and it, you know, it, like,
it really kind of changes up a good bit
and throws in those little,
those little touches that we like to see
where it shows like they took their time
with this kind of thing.
And it looks creepy.
So, yeah, this is another good looking game, man.
It's almost like a Tudy Silent Hill.
Kind of is that.
Oh, that's a good description for sure.
Yeah, that's actually not a bad description either.
Yeah.
All right, this next one's forever ago.
Josh, I want you to tell me about this one
because I feel like you would connect the most with this one.
Dang it, Ace.
Why do you have to?
because it's about an old guy, right?
Is that why?
Because it's an old man.
But also because like mixtape touched your feelings.
Honestly, this is.
It's okay, yeah, it's mixtape two is all this is, by the way.
This is, listen, I think this game looks real good, man.
It kind of got, it pulled my emotional strings.
I think it looks good.
You're an old guy.
You're trying to kind of relive some of your memories from your life and stuff like that.
Is this one where his wife died and he's going through like the different places?
Yeah.
That's this one, right?
Boilers.
Yeah.
He's going on a road trip and you'll kind of relive those moments while you're taking this road trip in the modern day.
You're reliving his past at the same time.
Yeah, okay.
We talked about this one a few months back and I remember thinking like this actually looked really good.
And here we are.
And it still looks really good.
This is absolutely a narrative adventure, all a mixtape, all a dispatch, you know, these kinds of things.
I don't know how many gameplay elements it has.
but this is the kind of game where if you really want to just feel melancholic and, you know, nostalgia and get into your feels like this one is it.
It looks beautiful.
The art style is great.
The voice acting is great.
I thought it was Morgan Freeman at first with like the music.
Okay.
I'm not crazy, right?
You're not crazy.
It's not Morgan Freeman.
But at first I was like, is that Morgan Freeman?
And I was like, oh, no, it's just a guy with another really good voice.
I'm really, really interested in this one.
I don't know if I'll actually, especially in October, like have time to play this.
But if you're like me, who really does enjoy these kind of narrative story games from time to time as like a pallet cleanser and just something completely different from slaughtering, horrific demons and Onomusha kind of thing.
Like this is, this one really looks good to me, dude.
Slaughtering demons to making sure like your dog has food.
like in the RV or whatever.
And like, yeah, remembering like the good times with your wife and the memories and
Yeah, do you guys think like with the success of, you know, dispatch and then like with this
game coming out and some other stuff, do you think they're going to make a run on these?
Like where they're these short, narrative driven kind of of not a lot of gameplay, but very
heavy on on the story type of games that aren't going to be expensive.
But like, well, this is an Annapurna game.
This is seems like this is what.
they're going to be investing.
Yeah, this is what they're investing in.
I didn't know this was Annapurna.
Yep, this is Anapurna.
They invested into this one.
I'm in.
That's all it takes.
I mean, they do this phenomenally well.
They do it very well.
Yeah, they really do.
I don't know, Ryan.
I like, you know, as much as I love action and stuff like that, like I like to feel
emotion, man.
And if a video game can do that, then I think it's great.
I think it's hard.
I think some people try and it comes across.
as shallow sometimes and stuff like that.
So you kind of got to really be a very good storyteller.
And I think you need really good voice acting to go along with it.
So it's like it's not an easy genre to do.
Exactly.
They have to be done specifically.
If we're calling this a genre,
I'm here for it then if it's well done.
What would we call this genre?
They're narrative adventures.
I don't know.
Emotional tear jerkers.
Yeah, we can call it emotional tear.
Well, don't call it.
Just make sure you don't call it a game where the internet will light show.
No, no.
It's not even like a game, bro.
Yeah.
Yeah, I saw this game's trailer.
I heard the music kick in and the voice tag and I was like,
this is a game for Josh.
Yep.
Oh, absolutely.
Yeah.
Which is kind of funny because like, like,
complete opposite of what I would normally look for for something for you.
It was like,
I think that's why I like them though,
is it's the pallet cleanser.
It's the,
and you remember these games.
I mean,
like I said,
we talk about dispatch.
We talk about mixtape.
I reference Firewatch a lot of the times,
what remains of Edith Finn.
Talk about heavy rain.
The disappearance of Ethan Carter.
Like these games hit, dude.
When they hit, you remember them.
And we, it's one of those.
We've been talking about it.
Like, I'll just throw out 007 because we were just talking about it recently where it's like,
that's a great video game that I will never think about after like again.
But I'm always going to think about mixtape and how it made me feel and, you know,
Firewatch.
And so they're just, they're games that stick in your memory and they're,
worth it as long as they're done
really well and they know what they're doing when
they're telling this story. Yeah. You can be the
biggest like horror fan like
for movies in the world but sometimes it's
nice to watch a comedy. Like it's it's nice
to like switch it up a little bit and do something a little different
so no I like these and I think this
genre you know this is a new one that's breaking out.
I think it'll do well and as long as they really put the time in
and do it the right way we're going to get some good stuff.
Yeah, agreed. And this
comes out today as well October 8th
for PC, PS5, Xbox, Xbox series.
X-N-S and the Switch 2.
So widely available
for a lot of people.
All right, I put Josh
on the spot for the last one,
so you're on the spot for this one, Ryan.
Tell me about over the hill.
Well,
how do you want to,
do you just want to,
tell us about yourself.
Do you want to do nothing
but just drive around the wilderness?
A.k.a. Ryan's hunting
apparently, according to all these guys.
Camping, Ryan. Camping.
Oh, yeah, camping.
It's what I, it's what I do.
So we talked about this one a while back, right?
A while back.
Like I feel like when you posted Ace does this beautiful list of all the games that he's going to cover and we get to take a look at it.
This one immediately I was reminded of that we, I was like, I know I've seen this before and we've looked at it.
But I, it had been a while.
So what the heck is taking so long in this development is what I want to know.
But also, like, this is.
They were trying to figure out how to make it fun.
And they really got stumped.
Okay.
I was trying to figure out a way to like be gentle and nice about this Josh.
But yeah,
no,
this is,
you say it'll be nice to every game.
I will.
I will,
Ace.
I didn't say I'm going to glaze every game here.
Okay.
I said I'll say something nice.
But,
uh,
this is,
this is,
if you don't have anything else to play simulator,
I guess.
You drive it,
you drive around.
You got to make a trek,
I guess,
through with your Jeep.
I'm sure you probably have to repair things and do stuff like that.
And you camp out and look around it.
I mean,
the scenery.
looks awesome and it looks beautiful in the world.
And I think the world building is really neat and unique,
but it just does not look like anything I would ever have any desire to play.
Josh, do you remember our first interaction with this game, what I said?
No.
I blocked this game from my memory, I think.
We're going to make memories.
Oh, yeah, I remember that.
I remember that.
I did remember that now.
Yeah, sorry.
What are we going to do?
We're going to make memories.
We're going to make memories.
That's what you do.
You make memories.
I tried a game like.
this. I'm pretty sure it was called mud runners where it was like I challenged myself occasionally and it was like, you know, it's a game where you were in a Jeep or an off-road vehicle and you have to go and like tow your buddy out of the mud and you do these things. I try to. I don't like I don't like this genre at all. You don't like the driving around with your friend genre. No, not at all. I mean, I think I will say it's a co-op adventure game. It's like you could replace the off-road vehicles with people. That's kind of almost like the way that they market this is like your,
taking an adventure with a friend.
You just happen to be in these off-road vehicles.
It seems like they're trying to tell a story and, you know,
have some emotional impact with this game.
It's just not my kind of gameplay on this kind of game at all.
And I have actually tried them.
I'm almost positive.
It was called mud runners.
And I, like, I got bored really, really quickly with that.
That's fair.
I think these, like, relaxing off-road sort of four-by-four driving games do, you know,
cater to someone.
I don't know if it totally caters to me.
I'm still willing to try it.
I think it'd be somewhat fun to try it
just to see what happens,
see what kind of hidden locations there are,
what little trials and trails there are to explore.
But it's not high on my list for October, I got to say.
But it does come out October 14th,
but it is PC exclusive.
Oh, really?
Yeah.
Okay.
All right.
We got a few more games to hit,
but it's going to be right after this break.

All right, we are back, and I mean, it's October.
There's going to be more horror games.
You can't have October without more horror games and two is not enough.
This is a game?
Hold on, Ryan.
Okay, I'm sorry, I'm sorry.
Let me finish.
Tenebris Somnia, which is a bizarre survival horror game that combines classic pixel art games
with live action horror sequence sort of cutscenes.
It is going to be like basically playing a classic pixel art horror game.
and then you get to that moment, oh no, Josh,
and then get to that moment
where you hit a cut scene
and it's all like these live action actors
and hyper-realistic effects
and things like that.
It's very interesting.
I'm not sure how much audience appeal there is.
Go ahead. Say what is there, right?
Well, it's just why?
Why would you?
Why? I don't get it.
I don't get creating these beautiful cinematic sequences
or these live action sequences
that look really, really neat,
genuinely cool and then and then it goes to like game boy like original and you're just like a
game boy original this is like this is all like like home computer 386 original this is like
the oldest school of the point and click adventures man like way back to your character's like
seven blocks yeah like this is way back to like early early sierra days uh for the point click adventure
part.
Ryan, I think you just don't understand art, man.
That's what the internet will say.
I know he's thought I was going to rip this game apart.
I did.
I am oddly curious about this one.
Now, I'll probably never play it.
But I actually do like what I see in this game.
Now, yes, the point and click adventure part looks old as anything.
It's very, very, like Ryan said, like eight pixels worth of stuff.
But I personally, because I grew up with those games, I like point and click adventures.
but I also really like weird scenes in movies.
It's weird.
You know, like Pan's Labyrinth, I think is a fantastic movie because of how weird some of the scenes in that movie are with the weird creatures and the monsters and how they play out.
And this live action stuff is actually pretty cool looking and very freaky at the same time.
Like the tone that they have in these scenes that play are really weird.
And I'm kind of in.
I'm kind of for it, man.
Yeah, the lady whose face is all just like a whole.
The practical effects are like top notch.
Yeah.
I've been kind of following the development of this because they were accused of using AI to make these.
I almost wondered if they did because of how good that these effects looked.
All practical.
That's insane.
And honestly, kudos to them because-
Kudos to them for that.
This kind of reminds me of Night Trap, just a little bit.
If anyone's familiar with that.
I'm honestly like Guillermo de Toro is one of my favorite directors for his practice.
effects and I like I got like Yamadotaur vibes from these live like scenes.
So everything so everything looks awesome about this game except the game except for the game part.
Yeah.
Yeah.
But I mean, that's how retro games were. Remember Resident Evil had like an opening cutscene that was
live action footage and then it cut to the game. Yeah, but that was the best they could do that.
They couldn't do any better than that. See, this is where a 12 year old, I have a 12 year old with
freaking an Adobe account could make.
way better than this right now.
Dude, I don't, this is why I'm saying.
I don't think Ryan understands art because the,
the juxtaposition of the,
what did you call me?
A juxtaposition, Ryan.
I know,
I know,
I know,
I know.
I know.
The old school point and click adventure part,
coupled with a modern,
like,
live scene with practical effects is that weird,
jarring thing where it's kind of bouncing your brain around inside your head,
which is what a horror game absolutely should do at the same time.
so I'm kind of here for Tenerberosomnia, man.
Like, I'm very curious.
Man, that's so cool that you're curious enough to not play it.
I'm so, right.
It is October.
Come on.
It is October.
Why would we play a horror game in October thing?
Yeah, why would we?
October is dwindling, by the way.
It might actually be this game.
You would play Tender Somnia over the other two horror games we've mentioned.
I'm more curious about this game than I am Silver Pines.
Now, I can readily admit that I think Silver Pines looks like a better
developed video game, but morbid curiosity for a horror game and an experience, Tenebrissama
wins hands down for me.
I just kind of hope it does get the recognition it deserves, and it's not too off-putting
for people because of this.
Oh, it's going to be very off-putting.
Like, watch the trailer people, it's weird.
It's very weird game.
Is there a price for this?
I don't think there's a price yet.
Okay.
I'll look.
I'll look here in a second.
But it releases October 16th on PC, PS5, Xbox series, XNS, and Switch 1 and 2.
So.
Dang.
Come out on everything.
Glade Terebris Somnia.
Digitally for 2499 with the initial launch discount making it 1999.
That ain't bad.
If it's a long game, a decently long game, that's not bad.
All right.
We've talked about this game before, so we'll probably, yeah, we'll probably glaze over some of it.
But Penguin Colony is finally coming out this month.
That is the Cthulhu-like horror cosmic story.
set in the Arctic from the perspective of a penguin
of all things
that one lost Josh
that one had no he has no interest in that one
You know Josh just doesn't get penguin art
They just doesn't get penguin art in the love
Guys I blacked out there what happened
Oh you know we were just talking about penguin calling it
I love penguins
Penguins are great
They can't even fly dude
They swim like crazy though
They do swim like crazy
They do.
They do.
They're like missiles.
I did.
I'm not going to hijack too much real quick.
Yeah, no.
Penguin hijacking Ryan, do it.
Hold on.
I saw something.
Go ahead.
Talk about the penguins.
This guy was just talking about it's like, why don't we eat penguins?
Why are we eating chickens?
He's like, think of it if you go to the restaurant and they're like, I'll take a penguin wing.
And it's like this just giant penguin wing.
And I'm like, that's actually not a bad idea.
Getting to the penguins is really tough.
That, it does take a lot.
Yeah.
Although that stays on ice the whole time.
so it's really fresh.
Yeah, that's, yeah, it's fresh.
It's fresh.
Yeah, that's fair.
Yeah, it's fair.
Yeah.
I said I would say something nice
about every game on this list.
Uh, I like penguins.
I like penguins.
Okay, well, what do you have against this one?
What, what's the biggest, like, thing?
Is it the lovecraftian story from the perspective of the penguin?
Do it.
You already said the nice thing.
No, go.
Go, go, go, go, go.
Okay.
You don't want to play a penguin during a horror game?
Okay.
Why are we using animals in these, like,
ridiculous scenarios. Like, what's wrong with people?
I can identify with a person. You're observing.
You're observing humans doing stupid things. This is like
gecko gods, right? When it's like, dude, make a game
and they use geckos. And then there's the, what's the one with the gecko
sailing away on the boat? Isn't that gecko gods too or something like that?
And then we have rats doing everything. We have rat warriors and we have rat people.
And I'm sorry, Ace. I know you love rats. But I'm just saying, and then we have frogs.
Now there's like frogs that are like the main thing in a video. And it's like,
what's wrong with people? Okay. So then, at least in a cutesy game, I can go like,
oh look at that cute little gecko, right?
Like, oh, that's kind of quaint and stuff.
This is a horror game.
It's a horror game from a penguin.
Penguins ain't scared of crap because guess what?
They're swimming around killer whales all the time, man.
And polar bears.
That's incorrect.
Penguins are scared of leopard seals.
Okay.
But you know what?
There's nothing scary about a penguin and penguins are too stupid to understand
Lovecraftian horror at the same time.
This game looks absolutely ridiculous, dude.
Like, why would somebody go down this route?
Like, you could have made a really good horror game.
But you put penguins in it and completely ruined it.
I feel like you've turned on penguin colony.
He used to be more open to it.
I was never in on penguin colony.
What are you talking about?
All right.
I'm just going to go to our historians.
We did an episode where we covered penguin colony.
And I think Josh said,
I think I might have said that the horror elements in this game looked like creepy.
But in rewatching this whatever trailer you gave me,
this game looks about as stupid as I can imagine.
And I already said the thing about this game.
like Davey actually has gameplay.
That's the difference.
Yeah, that's the problem then.
Yeah.
Oh, yeah.
That's fair.
All right.
Moving on.
Yeah, yeah.
Penguin Colony comes out October 16th, and it's only going to be on PC later coming
to PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch 2.
Penguin Lovers.
Ace just rage baited me on purpose with this game live on an episode.
I would never do that.
What I'm going to do to Josh.
I'll put this penguin colony game in here.
I'm just going to put Penguin Colony in here.
He's never going to know.
Terrible lizards.
This is one we actually covered ages ago.
It's finally back.
We finally have a release date.
We finally have some gameplay.
We finally kind of know what we're getting into with this one.
It's your basically your classic mascot horror with the parkhoring and the puzzles and the running for your life from animatronic dinosaurs, real dinosaurs.
Some horrifying dinosaur with a human face in its throat.
Yeah.
It is an interesting, interesting.
interesting game.
I don't know that I love this genre of horror personally,
but what do you guys think?
Have you ever played a mascot horror or any of these kind of like hardcore horrors?
So like the like mascot horror,
is that like Five Night at Freddy's and that type of stuff?
Five nights of Freddy's.
Okay, do my son.
He's platinum, almost every Poppy's playtime.
I think he's got like one that he didn't.
He'll probably like this.
But he probably actually, if I show it to him,
he'd be like, oh, dad, I want that.
Yeah.
Yeah, I know.
Yeah, I mean, he's 10 years old, of course.
he likes dinosaurs for sure so yeah uh to me it looks so stupid so stupid i think it looks it looks
well done uh-huh but it's it's nothing that i would ever ever play but if you like this style
and you like it you like it you probably enjoy this game did you guys catch like the music at the
beginning that kind of just sounded like it was trying to do like a Jurassic Park thing
really i didn't notice i didn't notice i didn't notice that no it was like a rip-off of Jurassic Park
oh my trying to get trying to get the the memories for the old
or generation.
I'm trying to get those memories.
Oh, yeah.
Yeah, I'm not huge on the genre.
I can respect the, like, actual quality of the game based off what I saw in the gameplay
and things like that.
They're super short.
They're always short.
They're always short.
They're always pretty cheap.
Yeah, they're usually not much.
You know, 15 bucks or 20 bucks or whatever.
And then they're kind of like the friend slop of the horror indies.
Like, you just, they're a flash in the pan just to get some attention and then they move on.
Yeah, that's a, that's a, yeah, every time my son's like, I'm getting the next one dad.
And I was like, well, how many are there?
Like, he just keeps buying them.
I'm like, these, these games don't go on for very long, do they?
And he's like, no.
And again, that's not to just credit the developers or anything.
No, for sure.
I couldn't do it.
I couldn't do this.
I'll tell you that now.
If you guys remember, Ace, the first time you ever mentioned this game, I said that this,
I actually questioned, like, why are we just trying to make like Five Nights or Freddy's,
but with dinosaurs?
And believe it or not, we got a few comments on, you made a short about this where
People were very clear that this was not Five Nights at Freddy's and that I didn't know what I was talking about, which might be true.
Anybody that's been listening for a while knows that.
But I will say in this latest trailer, seeing that the parkour, I mean, it's still mascot horror.
So that part is right.
But I will say like the mixing the parkour elements with like the discovery in this giant park area that you're in.
I don't find it to be scary at all.
Like psychological horror is what gets me not creepy animatronic.
monster weird lizard things or something like that.
But I actually kind of understand how this is different than Five Nights of Freddy's.
It's a weird thing to make it a park horror-based game at the same time.
It's not the first.
I don't know what that is with this, but the game itself, like Ryan said, is actually
pretty decent looking game in my opinion.
This is just not really our genre.
But like, Ryan, your son would probably freaking love this.
My kids who love mascot horror would probably love it.
I'll probably surprise him with it.
I'll check it out, but like, I'm sure he'd love it.
Because the thing, too, is the parkour is not as much as you would probably think.
It's a big facet, but it's usually just traversal to unlock things or get new areas and stuff like that.
So, or running from whatever's trying to freaking kill you, you know, like so.
Yeah, usually.
So there's a lot of that.
He probably, he probably would totally love this.
So I'll definitely show it to him.
Yeah.
Well, that drops October 29th, same base Fandlead Zero.
So, oh, no.
We can't play terrible lizards.
Oh, bummer. I'll give that to him, so he'll just go play that.
Oh, there you go.
And then I'll play. Phantom plays zero.
That should be PC, PS5, Xbox Series X and S for that game.
So they got quite a bit.
All right.
And this last one is a quick hit.
Karen on the trail slash deep water.
Yeah.
That is the free DLC expansion coming to Karen that lets you take control of not only
Ava, but Marco as well.
Yeah, we're going to be Marco.
They'll play completely differently.
You'll be able to climb up this ledge.
And when you fall, you won't die.
You fall in the wall.
water so you just start over, which is
kind of funny. I'm excited
for this. I love Kahn. That's really cool.
Yeah, it's a decent, it must
be a pretty decent size free DLC for them
to have delayed it for this long too.
Yeah. And the ability
to be Marcos, so you won't be such a
prick to everybody.
All right, Brian.
No, you can't say that when we've
chatted with Sophia honey twice. No, she
did an excellent job at it.
She didn't, but
her character is a big old
jerk man i i i love marco and she was so mean to him she's pretty mean to him but he also did give
her like expired booze that like set her off on a trip that's neither here nor there that's neither
here or there but yeah we love karen around here uh well most of us uh so i'm excited for the dLC
i love care i love care through you guys by the way there go as a representative of us yes
as a representative of karen uh i love the game too from what you guys have told me about it
but that's also dropping October 29th.
Unfortunately for me.
But it'll be PC and PS5 because that is what Karen is exclusive to is the PS5.
Kind of interesting.
Didn't know that.
All right, guys.
We listed a bunch of games here.
If you had to pick one, obviously, we've got a full plate for October.
Pick a game from this list.
What would you play?
Oh, end of abyss.
Easily.
I think that game looks great, dude.
Really?
Both of you end of abyss.
I think it looks so cool.
It looked like the aesthetics and everything about it.
looks like, okay, I'll check this out.
And none of the other ones had that draw as much.
I think my ears of us games around here.
Yeah.
End of abyss for me, I am very curious about forever ago
just for that emotional hit type game.
Because it sounds like, you know, again,
everybody needs a pallet cleanser from time to time.
I think those are my two top ones.
Yeah, those are good.
All right.
And just to go ahead and recap that for everyone real quick
before we close off, you have end of abyss,
Silver Pines, Forever Ago, Over the Hill.
Tenebrous Somnia,
Penguin Colony,
terrible lizards
and cairn on the trail
slash deep water.
Man,
October is kind of just great.
I got to say.
That's also not counting the,
I think there's four indie games
that we're going to be covering
on Mondays,
or that we did cover on Monday,
comes out after that.
So four big indies
that we've covered already
on top of these that you added.
So it's a good month for indie games,
man.
It is a great month for any games.
But, you know,
that's where it ends,
then all great things must come to an end
and so must the indie episode
so thank you all
so much for listening. If you enjoyed

It does.
Check them every single morning I won't have my coffee. That's no lie.
Yeah, he's not kidding because he'll just share
it with us in our group chat and we're like, man,
that's great. Now my day is better too.
And if you go to that extra mile, we have a Patreon.
You can support his little $5 a month, get tons of awesome perks in our Discord,
plus something new that might be coming.
That's worth signing up for.
Wink, wink, wink, hint.
Ooh.
And as I mentioned, we have a Discord full of amazing gamers, almost 1,500 strong at this point.
It is not a quiet Discord where you're going to join.
No one's going to talk to you.
No one's going to play any games with you.
You join your base.
If you say hello, you're going to get bombarded with people who want to talk to you,
want to hang out with you, want to play games with you.
And that's how it should be.
That's how gaming community should be.
So come on and join our Discord.
But I think that's all for this episode.
So until next time, happy gaming.
Everybody, Josh hates penguins.
Boo!
Get them, get them.
Boo!
See ya!
I hate you two is what I hate.
Bye, everybody.

For 50 years, Canadians have wondered what the names of IKEA furniture mean, like Natopa,
the guardrail for children's beds. Natopa means giving your favorite person room to grow. It means
their safety and your piece of...
No. In Swedish, not aapa means night monkey.
IKEA, 50 years of Swedishness at home.
Look, he's wearing little pajamas. So cute.
