Hello, fellow gamers, and welcome to the video gamers podcast.
Today, we're diving into the 6-1 indie showcase with highlights like the mind-bending puzzles of Recur,
the cozy lizard platforming of gecko gods, and the eerie Spanish horror of Creasol Theater of the Idols.
I am your host, Ace, and joining me is, hey, wait, no, that can't be.
There's no way.
Is that Goose Wade?
Oh, wait, no, it's just Josh.
Okay, okay.
All right, you know what?
My, okay.
All right, number one, kudos.
Kudos to you, Ace.
I hate more than anything that I look like this guy that, listen, listen, people.
You know, sometimes the Internet is.
is unmatched, okay? Apparently, and listen, all the people out there, go ahead, Google it, Google, Google, Goose Wayne. And this dude looks a fool, number one, all right? But number two, there are, and I have to admit, there are some similarities. Now, here's the crazy part for everybody that doesn't understand this. At my job today, and we are always trolling each other at my job, right? So somebody posts a picture of this goose Wayne guy and then goes, is this Josh, which starts an entire.
higher like 30 minute long just troll session of me and what my hair would look like if I let
it grow out. They were actually trying to bribe me to like let my hair grow out for like six
months. It became a whole thing. Right. And then I go, I see that you and Ryan are talking in our
Discord DMs. And I freaking open it up. And I'm like, oh my gosh, dude. And you two fools are
talking about this goose wing guy and i and i'm like i'm in the freaking matrix right now like
how is this going on at my job and then 30 minutes prior you two are talking about this and i am like
what the heck is happening and then i find out that ryan texted my brother-in-law and my boss
andy and he sent him these photos and then andy laughed and said i'll take it from here so there's
all kinds of collaboration shenanigans going on i had no idea this was happening my mind is
blown man i'm like what the heck are the chances of this only to find out that this was all
orchestrated and yes i kind of look like although he probably kind of looks like me i bet i'm
older so you know what he kind of looks like me uh also that guy's kind of rich so i don't mind it
so much if uh people want to make that comparison
he's a little crazy too.
Apparently he tricked Dr.
Phil to go on his show and pretend like he was Batman.
I saw that when I looked him up.
I was laughing.
I kind of like this guy.
Goose Wayne Batman is what I saw.
His wife was in on it.
He's in on it.
They tried to say that it wasn't.
I'm like, bro,
this is obviously them trolling Dr.
Phil at this point,
but he didn't know.
All right.
Great intro,
there we go.
All right.
Yeah.
Thank you.
Thank you.
dude
someone left a comment about that on one of our
reals on Instagram which Ryan
literally wrote him back and went bro
thank you so much for this
come on
man
speaking of Ryan
yeah and making his
return to the indie episode
after a month long hiatus
it's Ryan
oh
right hey guys sorry
I uh I went to take
another vacation. And so I'm not going to make the episode today, everybody, because I figured that
I needed a vacation from my other two vacations. And you guys don't mind doing the podcast without me
again, do you? Yeah, no, no, we got it, man. We'll take over. Don't worry. Yeah. Go take your
well-deserved third vacation. Yeah. Yeah. Ryan's going to kill us because he is doing so bad.
opposite of a vacation right now.
Ryan might be stranded on the side of the highway.
It's still 100 plus degrees in Arizona right now.
His truck was actively breaking down.
And he is not a happy camper.
And we were like, look, dude, Ace and I'll cover this episode, man.
You just, you handle life and deal with all that.
But, you know, what are friends if we can't just troll you at your worst moments too?
So, I mean, he got you with the goose Wayne thing.
This is kind of getting back.
Payback man. Payback Ryan. Payback. But yeah, no Ryan today, just us. But we do have yet another indie game showcase. I like these showcases, man. Makes my life easy, dude. I get to talk about basically brand new indies that are all gathered together and it's like these are already good looking indies. And usually you have to pay for a spot in these showcases. This one specifically was like they were asked to show up.
and uh you know showcase their games which i thought was kind of cool that's kind of cool so somebody
saw enough in these to go you should you belong in this showcase yeah pretty much like i'll
start when i uh talk about i actually watched just over a couple of these days don't worry he
might be a little upset with some but i actually got to watch this showcase with the devs for
mr sleeping man because they showcased their game in there and they released the price which will be
$20 for Mr. Sleeping Man? And then I just heard Dev's. Yeah. Bro, I'm going to buy two copies. Because Devin Santi is awesome, dude. Awesome. I missed that episode and I'm so jealous because that guy is super cool. Mr. Sleepy Man looks fantastic, by the way. We will, when we get a release date on that, believe me, we will start hyping that to the world because that game looks awesome, dude. Dude, it does. And there was a whole new trailer with a with a rap section to the song, me and Ryan love so much.
And then Devin was like, all right, the game's going to be $20.
And then he ended the sentence with, thanks, silk song.
Oh, I mean, okay, that's a great troll number one.
But number two, he's probably not charging more than $20 for that game anyways.
No, but it's pretty funny that he's going to try to play him.
I respect it.
All right.
Before we get too far into the showcase, though, we got to talk back about Sworn.
We brought up Sworn last time on the indie show
It was going to release the exact same day
As absolute indie giant, Hades 2
Yeah, which Hades 2
initiated by the way
Because Sworn's release date was announced first
So just so the people know the timeline on this
Sworn came out and said, hey, full release date
Is, what was it today?
Yesterday?
When is that released?
The 25th was the day they initially were going to release.
That's for, okay, that's right.
Yeah, the 25th.
So Friday, it was going to be sworn.
Then Hades came out and said, hey, we're done with early access.
We've got a release date.
Oh, it's the 25th of September.
Hmm.
Sworn did possibly the funniest thing I could ever imagine.
And they moved their release date up two days.
Yes.
And it is out right now.
We are recording this on a Tuesday night.
And Sworn is available to the public.
before Hades, too.
Look.
Okay, I'm totally in on this whole thing going down, like, honestly, because, look, we kind of
already talked about this, so we won't get deep into it.
But it's like, you know, sworn copying Hades, made it multiplayer, but it's a direct rip-off.
And that's fine.
You know, we joke around, innovation is dead.
And we're going to talk about that on a couple of these games today, maybe.
Uh-oh.
So, but then it's like, okay, well, you copied Hades.
Hades has a right to kind of troll you back and say,
well, we're going to release on your release date.
And then Swar and fired back and went,
we're smaller.
We'll just move the release date up two days.
And now we're released before you are.
Which is a great like come back to the comeback, man.
That was so clever.
And they were so fast with it too, man.
Soon it was like a day after Hades announced their release date.
They're like, we're moving up.
Yeah.
And I think I screenshoted the tweet and I sent it to you and Ryan like,
this is the funniest thing.
I could have ever seen.
And you know the people at Hades are like,
you son of a gun, man.
Like, these guys,
these freaking sworn guys, man,
they're just moving it up.
Like,
it's all nothing willy-nilly.
And then they're like,
Hades is like,
can we move ours up four days?
And then somebody's like,
nah, man,
no, we can't do that.
No, man.
We can't do it.
So props to sworn.
Yeah.
First or foremost.
I just wanted to say that.
All right.
Now let's get into the showcase.
We're starting with a game called Recur,
which is a puzzle game.
where time moves depending on the direction you're walking.
I thought this was incredibly clever.
What did you think of this one?
I am with you on this one, Ace,
because I watched this trailer and I was like,
dude, number one, this game looks, like, it looks great.
Art style, visuals, it's fantastic.
I love time mechanics in games.
We have covered a few of those.
Outer Wilds is one of my favorite games
where it has a great time loop mechanic.
uh we have talked about the i think it's called for i always get this wrong forgotten city which
has like a time loop mechanic yeah on that play that game by the way people it forgotten city is
is it forgotten city i'm pretty sure that's the name of it that game's awesome that was the one that
like started off as a mod right yeah it started off as a mod for skyrim i think uh and then it became
its own game it is awesome it's like a 10 hour experience but man is it memorable but it's got a
time loop mechanic and then we get recur and i'm watching this and i'm kind of like
okay, like this is a great. And then they start showing the time stuff where you kind of have to go backwards and forwards to rewind and things like that. And I'm just like, dude, I really like what I am seeing on this right now, man. It's got great voiceover work on it as well. Yeah, it did. And so this game just kind of screams polish. It screams, hey, these are very clever, unique time mechanics in how you have to approach this. It seems like the total package to me. I really liked what I saw in this one, man.
yeah i i loved this one like it was so clever and the fact that time moves depending on which
direction you move and it's like a two d plane so you can only go to your directions to begin with
it can't only be the direction you move because then you'd never be able to do anything would
you so i feel like there are times where you can move forward there's got to be some kind of
or something but i think i think there's something there but if think about it if if it was
only ever like if you move this way time's going to advance and if you move back then it's you're
just going to wind up back to where you were ultimately yeah i guess you're right i it just seemed
like that from the trailers it does and yeah is anytime he moved backwards time moved backwards
they absolutely show that to a degree but i think you probably have a little bit more control over
that because again you just wind up right back at the beginning no matter what i mean if you go think
about if you go backwards for 20 minutes and then forwards for 20 minutes you're you're right back
to your starting point at that point so that's fair
liked specifically like the part where he's being chased by the dogs
yeah through the gate and he's like he turns around to go shut the gate first and then
moves forward and time catches up and the dogs all hit the gate instead yeah the puzzles in
this game recur looks very promising the visuals with even like time reversing it all
look very smooth very well put together this is a game that people should wish list man you should
watch the trailer for this because this one actually seems like a really really well done
indie game to me. I like puzzle games. I like unique takes on puzzle games. And like I said,
this one for me just checks all the boxes. And so yeah, this people need to see it. It's got some
really neat mechanics to it and some really neat like animations to go along with it, which really
helps that kind of feeling of time reversing and moving forward and stuff too. Yeah, I really like
it. And I have to agree. Also, I will say now, this is going to be a very puzzle, puzzle game,
heavy episode. I actually was wondering if this was like a puzzle, like theme today or something, like, which I'm fine with because I like puzzle games, but then I was like, it's a weird mix of like puzzle horror. I was like, is A's starting to lean into like, is he starting to lean into it's almost October? And so he's getting into the, but then I'm like, where on earth did you find like seven puzzle horror games to? Yeah, I guess those were just the guys who like really looked good to that showcase. Yeah, maybe.
They're like, oh, man, puzzle games.
I love puzzle.
Yeah, but it was a very strange mix of like, okay, this whole showcase, puzzle horror, people.
All right, moving on, though, to when I think you, uh, I have a fear of what you think of this one.
But gecko gods, the cozy exploration platforming game where you play as a, a gecko, and you use your ability to climb on walls and ceilings to solve puzzles.
Your face says it all.
You already, you have never in my life gone.
You know what I really need in my video games, guys?
I need to be a gecko.
Okay, so number one.
And then gecko gods?
Like, that makes you're just trying to make it sound like these geckos are like some awesome supernatural beings or something like that.
No, it's just a gecko.
Look, this was one of the two for me.
Maybe three.
There might be three.
We'll see.
Actually, there might be four.
four
audience is
too much foreshadowing
dang it
dang it
I should have just
shut up
I'm so bad at not talking
man
uh
oh no
yeah so Gecko guides
looks like every
like
I don't know man
this this this did absolutely
is it too cozy for you
too pastel
it's a little too pastel
it's not the art style
necessarily
because it's like
it's sufficient
it's just like
I feel like
I've seen
seen every single one of these puzzles a thousand times it's rolling the little ball along the
wall you know with your little oh you can walk in the wall and then you drop the ball down and
now you're going to move the ball over to here and it's like okay well i've seen this in cocoon i've
seen this i i mean there's nothing unique about this game at all other than the fact that you're
a gecko and that does not interest me you can walk on the ceiling okay but it's like but
if your game has absolutely nothing unique about it except that you
your main character is a gecko?
Like, that's not carrying the game, man.
Like, you should have just gone really crazy and made it like a yak or something, man.
Like, you know, like, I don't, I don't know, man.
I'm not trying to slander the devs on this one, but it's like, this is the most generic looking puzzle, like, game to me.
And at one point, it's like the gecko dashes through like a little clay jar.
And the jar falls apart.
And I'm like, do you know how many games we can break jars in at this point?
People, this is not like a unique mechanic.
this is not the thing that is setting your game apart in the gaming industry
all right what if i told you gecko gods has a demo
well that doesn't surprise me ace because they got to do something
but that demo is probably the most generic looking demo in the world
okay i will say i downloaded the demo and i tried to play this game
it controls really well i'll say that it does not have a
an option for my screen, so
like half of it was always cut off
and I couldn't see what I was doing.
Yeah, I'm not trying to
dunk on these devs, but
this game needs some time to cook.
But I could see potential.
I see something here for someone.
What potential do you see here, Ace?
Get there.
You're so much nicer
than I am, man.
I'm trying to be like,
I know you are.
And I mean,
mean, good on you, man. But I just look, again, no slander to the devs on this. But if you're going to make a game, you've got to do something to make your game different. You've got to do something, man. And this just looks. And I'm going to say this again here it a little bit. Because there's another game on this list where I'm just like, bro, I've seen this game 18,000 times in my life. And it just doesn't, it just doesn't do anything for me. So. Yeah, fair enough. Well, that's gecko gods, everyone. I hope, uh, hope you're all hyped for it.
now.
Moving on to broomstick
Exorcist.
Oh, your face
worries me.
It's a hand-drawn
beat-em-up with horror elements
featuring a street sweeper
who battles demons.
Pretty cool.
Right?
Now, all right, yeah.
You, uh, from,
from the trailers, they actually showed
that there is permanent progression
in ways to, like, upgrade your attacks
and unlock new attacks,
which is always cool in these kind of,
beat-em-ups and I haven't played like a ton of beat-em-ups in my life but this was the first one like
I saw was like I would try this this looks fun but you're you're worrying me yeah okay
is it because it's black and white no I actually thought the art style was kind of cool I'm down
with black and white art style man like that does not okay off at all um I thought the character
kind of looked interesting she looks like she's just a janitor with a broom and I okay but
here's my here's my issue on this game is there's you are a combat focused game
with like three swipes of your broom and that's the only animation i saw where she just goes
right there's no jumping at all that i saw in and i watched both trailers for this one there was
jumping really okay because it's she jumps she jumps over attacks okay because it seems like the
main way of like dodging attacks is to simply just walk backwards you know where it's like yeah maybe
there's a dash there's a backwards dash okay but also i just want to say whoever was playing the game
for this trailer is really bad at their own game that that's very they got hit a lot i just
got hit like a lot dude i just i don't know man this this game seemed so one dimensional to me
where it was literally walk forward swipe your broom oh something's gonna throw i did laugh when a the
weird looking demon baby through like
the iconic pile
of dog poop at you
you know and then it's like
and so that made me chuckle but this
is like the most basic game
I think I've seen dude like where it's literally
walk forward slash your broom which is a
dumb weapon okay
actually it's a mop isn't it a broom
I mean it's called broomstick but it looked
like a mop I don't know so
slash this four times it's something
you see little numbers pop up
oh I'm doing damage
it four more times that one disappears and then there's another one oh it's going to throw something
at you be careful take two steps backwards okay good the poop missed you now that it like it just
didn't seem like this had any kind of depth to the gameplay at all to me i actually liked the art
style like to be fair i thought the art style was was the only draw but like i was bored within
the first 60 seconds like watching the actual gameplay on this it's it's almost like it's an old school
beat them up but with like no depth to the level like it's literally just forward backward and swing
your brook it feels very early in development from what i could tell it seems very early and i think that
could be the case but that is also you did showcase it to it like thousands of people yeah okay
and here's the thing it says horror elements what in this game was scary ace oh nothing was
scary but there was like it's a hand drawn beat them up with horror elements like is it because
Because there's, I'm getting poop thrown at me.
I mean, that's kind of horrifying.
But like, I, dude, like, there's other games that I thought, like, we're like,
dude, this game looks really neat.
Like, this actually has, like, a horror vibe to it.
I, yeah, broomstick exorcist for me just doesn't, it, it's so one-dimensional to me that it's
like, I feel like I would be bored with this game within the first 20 minutes.
I, that's fair.
I get, I get where you're coming from.
For me, who's, for someone who hasn't played, like, a ton of beat-em-ups and isn't, like,
super down on them it's the art style alone was interesting enough for me i'd like to see more
effort go towards the animation things like that like it didn't seem like there was a lot of reaction
when there were hits happening uh i didn't see like a block which was annoying because like you're
just getting the person who's playing was just getting hit all the time yeah they were bad but also
i see potential the game mechanics are literally just walk backwards to avoid damage
maybe i saw there was a skill tree so i'm hoping there's potential all right
That's my hope
is a skill tree
We'll save this game
You can walk backwards
Faster now
Walk backwards
4% faster
Well before we move on
To the next game
I think I need a little break
Don't worry
I do like some of these other games
Ace
There is good news on the horizon
All right
We are back
We're going to
Come back with a fresh mind
We're going to forget
about broomstick exorcist and gecko gods
and we're going to think about engraving
just start before I even say anything about it
what did you think about it? I think this game looks
great dude
okay yay I'm not just
grumpy today I'm not just grumpy today
I think the more I watch this trailer the more I kind of went
this kind of reminds me of
Eclipse in a way
all right
right like it's like a pixel art
you're walking through this world
there's puzzles, there's a little bit of exploration.
I think engraving looks better than Eclipseium,
but it did remind me.
And that's what I kind of started chuckling because I'm like,
is A's on this like weird pixel horror kick all of a sudden?
Like there are some similarities.
But I thought this trailer, especially the longer I watched it,
looked really good.
I'm interested in this one, man.
This one is very interesting.
It feels kind of like we took Eclipse and we combined it with the like
shifting elements of blueprints.
A little bit.
Like where you have to, yeah, because the whole thing about this is, like, you are moving through this forest, trying to find your way out of it, and it's constantly shifting.
So you're drawing your own map, which is super clever.
Like, I love that.
It adds a very, very real feeling of being lost and trapped somewhere.
And the guy's just screaming.
Where's the way out?
How do I get out of here?
He is just howling that he wants out.
But he voice acting is good.
Yes, the voice acting was good.
The creepiness level starts to,
that's what I say.
I think this trailer gets better
the longer you watch the trailer
because they start showing
and leaning into some of the horror elements
and the creepy elements.
And then like right at the very end of the trailer,
there's this weird pig looking thing
looking through like the little portal
in the door at you like as you walk up to this cabin.
And then I'm like,
dude, this game kind of is messing with my head a little bit.
I like I said, I like this one.
I don't know what kind of gameplay elements are involved.
there's definitely puzzles which I like again this is the puzzle horror episode apparently
but but like I I'm like legitimately this game has my curiosity and it looks it looks
well done I don't have any complaints about what I saw on this one man dude this one is
very interesting to me like you said the puzzles looked really really good too they didn't
seem like simple and easy they actually seem like you actually have to
think about them like the ones in blueprints yep which i liked and then the drawing the map is just
the cherry on top for me for how scary this game will get yeah and i also like to point out
this is a survival horror but you don't get a weapon you you are you just have that map it says in
the description you are armed with just that map paper ink and will is is all you get in this one so
yeah i i this one looks really neat to me i like this first person perspective this kind of walking around
and looking around and trying to get your bearings on stuff.
I like the idea that the map is shifting.
I have a feeling that as you start to familiarize yourself
with these different areas,
that you're going to get that familiarity.
And then even though the map is shifting,
you're like, okay, well, I know what this area is.
And so you kind of learn and stuff like that too.
But with the creepiness of this,
the exploration elements, which I like,
and this just kind of vibe that it's got going on
with this weird pixel, almost static-y kind of look to it.
I don't know.
I've never heard of this game before,
but I am instantly intrigued by this one, A,
so this one is up there for me, for sure,
as far as these games that we're talking about today.
Nice. Yeah, I love this one.
It was, it stood out to me immediately.
Moving on back to horror still,
Creasol Theater of Idols.
This one had a demo, and I played this demo.
I found this very interesting.
It still felt very rough.
I will say that.
It looked a little rough in the trailer.
at times um yeah but it was a it was a very interesting game i'll say because it makes you choose
between having full health and full ammo because your health bar also fills your gun because
your gun shoots blood bullets yep which that's kind of a cool mechanic yeah i have to give them that
it made me squirm at one point because you can tell they're reloading the gun it's like a shotgun
where you would open it and normally the shells would pop out but instead spikes pop out and you
have to like put your hand there and just like uh i will say i think this is the most high
end looking indie of the bunch um the graphics are really good this gives you very very much
or at least gave me like lies of p vibes because you are looking at these mechanical puppets very lies
of p uh you know i i there there is combat in this game it does have a certain underlying
creepiness to it with these these puppets and they're bleeding out their eyes and stuff like that which
is kind of weird um you know i the the the criticism that i would have on this one is minor because
i think this game actually looks pretty decent dude like it it's this is the other one that
really has my attention out of this this group the combat seemed rather slow paced like i feel
like they need to up like just either the fluidity or the tempo a little bit because even when you
turn and you aim a gun and you shoot it it's like times not behaving properly and it was like
it was weird in my brain out a little bit like like it was weird in my brain out a little bit like
like the gun even the kick on the gun was like slow i i don't it's it's a weird thing man the
animations were just a little off even though again this is the highest end looking game out of
this whole bunch but i think it needs it definitely needs to cook a little bit longer and i'm sure
that they're cooking it longer for sure um oh yeah the puppets are creepy the vibe is cool
your gun kind of like gets coated in blood and then changes from like one gun to another it's cooler
it gets way cooler like it does get way cooler
It's like, you're absorbing, like, big piles of blood from other things.
So there's these neat mechanics going on.
I'll say this, man.
Like, this was the other one in this list where I'm like, okay.
Like, this is a game that I can actually get behind, man.
And it's interesting enough to really get my curiosity going.
I like that there's combat in it.
I like that there's these neat guns and these different things and stuff like that.
So, yeah, this one, it's a weird name.
I don't know what Chrisal means.
I don't know
It's based in Spanish folklore
So it has something to do with that
But it was very interesting
And when I played the demo
It was rough like I said
But it was still really good
Like I enjoyed what I played at the demo
It felt like I was playing Resident Evil
Does it feel like a shooter?
Does it feel like a like I guess
What's the general like feeling of this game
Like Resident Evil?
I see it feels like Resident Evil village
Really? Okay
I mean that's a good comp
Yeah. Like it still has the same thing. Like when you're aiming down sites, you need to wait for your reticle to shrink down in order to hit those like pinpoint shots and do more damage. It does that exact same thing. The only difference is, you know, you reload with blood. So you have to like kind of risk using your health to refill your gun. And these enemies do decent damage. So like, where else you're going to get the blood? It's like, oh, you want to fight? Well, you got to. Yeah, you've got to sacrifice some of your health for this. But you're like, bro, I'm in a fight. I need all my health. And it's like, well, you're like, well, you.
better decide what you want to do.
And like the shotgun takes more health away than the pistol does.
So if you choose to reload the shotgun and the pistol,
now you're like down a lot of health.
And they all reload differently too,
which is cool.
They all have like different like needles and things in them to pull blood from you.
Yeah, the weapon design was really neat.
The puppet design was neat.
Like I said,
this game has like the highest level of like I'll just call it development in my opinion.
or maybe they just had the best art team or something,
but this looks the closest.
Well, it's being published by Blumhouse.
Oh, okay.
Well, that probably explains that then because, yeah, like I said,
the art style, the graphics, the, uh,
what this game seems to be all stood out to me.
A couple minor complaints,
but I'm sure they're going to work that out too.
Yeah, I think they'll work out the kinks based on like feedback they'll get from the
demo, but I'm also super excited for this one.
And I'd love for it to come out around Halloween,
but I think it needs a little bit,
A little bit more time than that to cook, but it's incredible, and I suggest everyone keeps their eye on that one.
All right.
This one's not horror themed.
All right, we're away from the horror for now, but Undermeyer, it's a FPS multiplayer boomer shooter roguelike, which is, for those who don't remember what a boomer shooter is, that's what we consider doom.
I have one issue with this game.
It's slow.
It looks slow to me.
oh just one issue ace
i got a lot of issues
it looks like it was a cartoon what are you
this is okay i'm going to go back to this
this looks like the most generic
video game
i have seen
it's like dude
i feel like i've seen
it looks like a cartoon it's not even the cartoon part
it's the animations are slow
all the character models
and the creature models are 2d
in this like cartoony looking 3d world
it's
super slow. It looks like every other
cartoony, rogue-like shooter I've ever seen
the one. And I mean, the one thing that stood out to me on
this is you can take like a lighter and hairspray and
smush. They say smush. Smush them together. And then it's like, and now
you've got a grenade. And it's like, that's the mechanic in this game.
Is like you can combine a lighter and hairspray to make a grenade.
Like the animations were terrible. The gameplay looked
terrible like everything about this i i i don't know man this is like why did you make this game
why did you spend all your time and effort and money and passion to make a game that looks like
every other game that i have seen out there the only thing that even remotely looks different on
this one is the fact that it has a cartoon style but it's like what was the detective uh
what was that game it's been out a little while now it's like you're the detective
it's got the cartoon style you're going up against the mob guys uh oh it looks like looney tunes
in a way i can't remember the name of it but it's like this reminded me of that but that game at
least had a cool detective noir type thing to it i i just dude like nothing about this game
interested me like nothing and i'm just like that's my only thought it could play with four people
like okay i can play cards with four people man like i i and again again
I'm not trying to slander the developers on this, but it's like, but if there's ever feedback that I can give somebody, it is, why did you spend all your time and your effort and your development and, like, you know, just hours of sitting in front of a computer to make a game that is the most generic looking game that I've ever seen? Like, why? You know what I mean? And so it's like, I just, I don't know, man. I feel bad for them. And again, I feel kind of bad that I'm like slamming this game at the same time. But it's like, there's just.
nothing about this that would make me
want to spend money on this in a million years
because I've seen all of this
before like am I wrong
like you're not
and it's like it the thing
is like we're in a
era of major
video game over saturation like there
are no new ideas everything is
very hard to innovate on
and a lot of people are just out here
especially the indie devs they're just making
the game they want to play which
this is the game that you
want to play
these that's what they want to play then
and they're probably like five bucks
like just go play one of those
man like yeah I know
look I'm sounding grouchy but it's just this is
interesting is it look
that is not that interesting man now if you
do this with every single weapon
that's what it makes you sound like you could do that
with everything if even then
the animation slow the combat
is slow the hit registration is
non-existent the creatures look to
dumb like I it's just like the only way that I could see this working is if this developer is like look I'm just trying to figure out how to develop and I need something simple and basic to just get my legs under me so that I can then kind of go okay this is I know how to do this and I know how to do that kind of thing you know and so it's like I can wrap my head around that but if you think that Undermeyer is going to somehow like take over the indie gaming world and make you a ton of money like.
Like, I feel really bad for you at that point.
I mean, it's got 10K wish list, so somebody likes it.
I mean, good for them, man.
Honestly, like, good for that.
Like I said, never wish failure on anybody.
So if it's got 10,000 wish lists, good on these people.
I hope that that's enough to make it work their while.
Yeah, I do want to remind people, like, this is just our opinions on these games.
Like, go out and make your own opinions based on what you see and how you feel about things.
Watch trailers.
always do that don't don't just like judge everything based on what we say yeah but we are a very
reputable source for good games yeah i mean again you know watch the trailer we post all ace does
a really good job of posting every trailer for these indies we have an indie channel in our discord
servers so if you want to just see all these in one spot and not have to hunt them down you can do that
which is good but again you know maybe i'm just a grouchy old man today but you know and this game
looks great to you you know but again yes check these
out support your indie developers that's why we do this episode but also we're gonna always always be
honest on what we think about we always got to be honest and undermyer and gecko gods and brimstick
exorcist don't do it for me man i get gecko gods and undermyer i'm still a little apprehensive
to say broomstick exorcist doesn't have like some some kind of uh hope i don't know it's got
any all right moving on to the last one i like the arch sale a lot though i think that's what's
carrying it a lot for me.
Whisper Mountain Outbreak.
This game is actually out in early access right now,
but it's going to get fully released in October.
This just looks like fun to me.
I don't know, man.
I know you don't like pixel art graphics and things like that.
It's not even the graphics that bother me.
It's like, I have an issue.
Okay, here's the thing.
This is kind of, I just sound so just negative today, man.
It's fine, man.
We want honesty here.
Here's the thing.
You got to have, you got to be on.
honest. When your demo or
your gameplay trailer is you and your
three friends talking in a
kind of fake, oh, we're having so
much fun voice about your game,
it, like, instantly I'm just kind of like, bro, what are you trying
to sell me? Because you're laughing
because you know. You have a great point.
I'm not, yeah, no, you have a great
point. All right. This whole trailer
is these four people on voice comms going,
guys, what's this code over here? I found on the
whoa watch out for that zombie and then it's like of course you know they they have the you know
the girl that's part of the group right so and then she's like why are all these zombies just hanging
in the air this is weird it's creeping me out guys and it's like you're trying to sell your game
to me by pretending like you're having fun in this game the game itself is whatever it's probably
fun with friends it none of it looks i mean there's it's like a multiplayer resonant evil
horde shooter style game.
It's very simple and
I don't know. There's just nothing that stood
I'd rather just play like there were more horror puzzles
I mean you know what it reminded me of it reminded me of like a
2D outlast trials in a way
like where it's like you're going into a room
you don't know what's going to be in the room there's some monster
coming after you and all I could think about is like
well I just want I would just want to play outlast trials
like why do I want to play this game if I can just play this
other. That's fair. There's a gazillion multiplayer games out there so I can hop in with my buddies at
any time. So I just again, I don't know what sets whisper mountain outbreak apart from every other
cooperative kind of spooky game co-op survival horror game out there. And I was just very put
off by like, you were trying to sell how fun this game is to me with using your voice comms. And I am
not buying it, man. That's fair. I get it. It looked fun. It looked like a very fun
game to me for that reason
like if it if that is a real
reaction you could get from your friends when playing
with them but I totally get what they're doing
I totally get what they're doing I'm just going to lean
into this being grouchy thing on this one
because this trailer starts off
with a these it's
pixel art you see your character
and somebody is like
in the character menu
and they're like oh my gosh
guys I can change the appearance of my character
like whoa
That's how the trailer starts
And I'm like
Have you guys ever played a video game before?
And guess what?
It's not even really like that big of a difference
It went from like red to blue
Like on the guy's clothes color
And I'm just like okay
This is what you're trying to sell this game as
It just
It kind of kicks off wrong
And the fact that this guy was so blown away
By the fact that you can change
color on your character model.
You know, it might be a good game, but it clearly has rubbed you the wrong way with that
trailer.
I totally get it.
Don't be fake.
And when you fake the fact that you've never seen the ability to change the way a color
on a character looks, think, come on man.
This is like an among us where it's like, I can make my guy blue?
What?
Oh my gosh.
This is the most revolutionary game I've ever seen.
Like, that's what they did in this.
And I'm like, guys, is your game really so bad that this is what you have to do to try to, like, drum up interest?
I can't even argue with you because you're exactly right.
I know.
But we're going to close it out there.
All right.
That's enough.
We've seen some great indies.
We've slandered some unintentionally.
This should tell people that when we say that we think a game looks good.
it's probably worth you
checking out, you know?
And honestly, you should check out
all these. It's fun to just watch trailers sometimes.
And, you know, I might be an idiot.
I just watch some trailers.
I might be an idiot. And you guys are like out there
as like, bro, this game looks fantastic.
And again, if you think that, we're happy for you,
but I can only give my opinion.
But that was
our opinions on the 6-1 indie showcase.

helps them out and that's what we want to see we love our indie developers even the ones that make
boring looking games so all right see everybody
