Hello, fellow gamers, and welcome to the video gamers podcast.
Sometimes indie games just hit all the right vibes.
Sometimes they're short but memorable, other times unique and different,
and sometimes just simply a good time, even if they don't push the envelope too far.
On today's episode, we're breaking down our time with Tito.
Does it do enough to stand out and revive a dying genre?
and is it worth your time and money?
Well, we're about to break it all down.
But first, some introductions are in order.
I am your host, Josh.
And joining me, he's the Tito of the bunch,
the genetic mutation that oddly just kind of works,
even if no one is sure why.
It's Ryan.
Do I speak?
Does Tito speak at all?
Can I say anything?
No.
He says, hi.
Just sit there and look pretty, Ryan.
Do your job.
All right.
I'm mad at Ryan.
I'm mad at Ryan right now.
And if you want to know why,
go check out our pre-show.
I tried to share some glory,
some hype with Ryan.
And Ryan shot it down.
Josh can't do math.
Like so fast and refused to share glory with me on any scale whatsoever.
And so now he's not lying.
It's war.
It's fine.
It's war.
And joining us, he's the nory of the bunch, the reasonable one.
Even if we do have to carry him everywhere on our backs, it's Ace.
All right, you, what did I do?
That's so good.
I didn't get to a nine minutes, nine minutes screaming match with you.
Nobody's safe, Ace.
Nobody's safe.
Josh is just a madman now.
Yeah.
No heels for either you tonight.
What did I do you?
Dang it.
You celebrated.
Pretty good healer.
Oh, that's true.
I did.
I'm just, yeah.
Hey, good burns is good burn, man.
Yeah, you got to, you got to respect it, man.
Yeah, I was proud when I came up with that one.
That was a good one.
I'm not going to lie.
Yeah.
Well, listen, welcome in to everybody to the video gamers podcast.
This is going to be a fun episode, man.
We are covering the game Tito.
For somebody that might not know what Tito is, and they're like, what
heck is a Tito. This is a new 3D platformer from a small little indie studio of two people
called Eat Pant Games. We actually interviewed them on the show last week, so a week ago.
If you want to know a little bit more about game development and what it's like to develop
your first game and develop a 3D platformer, which is a very difficult genre to be a game
developer for you can check out that episode. They're awesome people.
but now it is time to face the music because we all played the game and we're going to talk about our thoughts on the game.
So that is the topic of today's episode.
So again, if you have played Tito, you will be able to see if you agree with us or not.
And if you haven't played it, then we're going to talk about what this game is and whether it's worth your time and money.
So we are going to jump right into it, ladies and gentlemen.
I always like to talk about kind of hype level.
I think it's important for people to know kind of a mindset going into a game.
We do this for just about every deep dive because a lot of times maybe we're really excited for a game.
And you go, you know what?
I went into this game hoping for the best.
Sometimes it works out.
Sometimes it doesn't work out.
So, Ryan, prior to ever, prior to ever playing Tito, what was your interest slash hype level for?
this game? I really didn't know much until we started talking to everybody and it came through
with the demo. So the Tito came around and we were able to kind of check out the demo stuff.
So that's when the hype started building. I'm like, I did hop into the demo. I got to check
things out and I'm like, man, I'm kind of vibing with this. I like this. It definitely,
and this is why people, you put out a good quality demo.
because that can really make or break a game.
So once we hopped into that, I played a good bit.
And it wasn't a little five minute, ten minute, 15 minute demo.
It's, you know, they gave you a good bit of playtime to really kind of learn what the game was going to be.
So my hype meter went up a good bit.
Once I checked it out, it was enjoyable.
And it played well.
I like the characters.
And so I was anticipating this game very highly.
What about you, Ace?
You're the indie guy.
you're the guy that, you know, should have found Tito and didn't because it was jigglepuff.
Yeah, that's all jigglepuff.
It was not me.
I can not take it.
I'm just thinking.
I found a different 3D platform.
Yeah, that's fair.
That's fair.
But, I mean, like going into this, you know, it is an indie game.
It is a small, like I said, two-person development team for the studio.
What was your initial thoughts?
You know, we all played the demo.
Were you excited for this release?
Is it like, you know, like, there's nothing.
groundbreaking here? What was your thinking on this? I really enjoyed the demo. Every time I came
back to the demo, they'd updated it. There was something new to do, something, you know, a new level to
try or a new mechanic or something like that. And I thought that was really cool. So I was kind of
really looking forward to Tito just because I think indies are absolutely carrying the 3D platformer
genre right now. And I wanted to see what Tito does, you know, better than everyone else. I want to
see what their best foot forward was. So I was very excited to see this and finally get it. I'm
I'm with you guys. The demo really is what sold me on this. You know, anytime somebody in our
community really comes along and, like, highly recommends a game, you're going to get our
attention. This is why we love our community. Now, everybody has different gaming takes, and I think
we're able as gamers to kind of filter that. If somebody is recommending me a SIM game or a cozy
game, I'm going to go, it's not really my kind of game. It sounds interesting, but like we kind
to know what we like as gamers. I like
3D platformers. I mean,
I grew up on these.
You know, there's some of the best games
ever, you know, like Mario
64, I think is one of the best.
Like Banjo Cazoo, I've made no, you know,
I'm not hidden that I love that game.
So, you know, for me,
this was, hey, I've played the demo.
This seems like a really quality
game here. I'm like you, Ace.
I want to see where they go with the full game on this.
The demo was enjoyable, but
where do you go when it's not
just a 40 minute kind of crafted experience that you're putting forward to people.
So we got our hands on it.
We started playing at the day that it released.
And here we are, man.
I have actually rolled credits on Tito.
Oh, wow.
Ryan, I know you were out of town.
I don't, have you beaten it?
I know you've got a good bit of playtime in there.
Did you get a chance to beat it?
My issue with these 3D platformers is I love exploring and running around and jumping and
trying stuff.
And I was playing with my son.
So I'm at, I'm near the end, but I haven't like fully.
rolled credits yet.
Okay.
What about you, Ace?
I know you were playing
a lot of black flag.
Yeah, the issue is like
I had black flag at the same time.
So I was trying to balance them.
Ace has almost 40 hours in it, I think.
Yeah, I got a lot of hours of black flag.
I probably got like four hours in Tito
just because I also was 100%ing
every level as I was doing it.
Yeah.
So I wasn't like just running through it.
I was like, I got to see everything.
I don't 100% anything.
I don't 100% of nothing.
I don't have nothing.
I don't know.
The Michaels.
Oh, the Michaels.
There's still some Michaels out there.
Sorry, Michaels.
The shadow corruption got you.
But I don't, I will look around, but I'm not going to like replay a level to try to find that one Michael that I somehow missed kind of thing.
So.
All right.
So for people that didn't hear our dev interview, Tito is a 3D platformer.
It is, you know, I would say, I guess I can actually look at my time.
This game takes about seven hours to beat.
I beat.
Oh, I'm at seven hours on the dot.
Wow. So this is not a super long game. That's okay. It doesn't need to be. We kind of say all the time, just give me a finally crafted experience. And I'm much more happy over a bunch of fluff and busy work. And like you said, you also didn't like you didn't get everything too. So like, you know, you could. That's fair. I think if I was going to 100% it, it probably would be about eight to eight and a half hours. Yeah. Probably something like that. Yeah. This game is also, you know, it is 1799. So this is priced as a as an indie game. It's on sale currently.
because most games when they release initially,
they do a discount.
So it's on sale right now for 20% off.
That is good until the 25th.
I'm actually looking at the Steam page.
So if you're listening to this on the 23rd,
you have a couple days to get this for the cheaper price.
So there you go as far as the price of the game
and the time to beat on the game.
All right, boys, let's talk some Tito.
Ace, what do you do in this game?
Oh, well, you platform, you collect Bionites and Michaels and use your transformative abilities to solve puzzles and usually, you know, help you collect those things and also fight shadow corruption.
But mostly, I think you just explore the levels and like experience the world of Tito.
These characters, how they're written, how they act and interact with you.
It's very like in depth almost.
All right.
I want to pause because you said something that I think.
people might not have heard or glazed over.
And it is a decent mechanic and part of this game.
And you said the transformative ability of Tito.
You all ever heard of Kirby?
Yeah, he's pretty much curvy, but anything you touch, you can become.
You don't have to eat it.
Yeah.
Well, not everything, but there are certain.
Well, yeah, there's certainly like seven or eight different.
Most props.
I feel like maybe more than that.
There's, yeah, I think there's probably a little bit more.
There is some surprising ones.
Like there's some areas where you're looking through.
And they do help you a little bit because, you know, you don't know what you're able to absorb.
You know, Tito as a crazy scientific experiment can absorb certain things and become them.
So you can absorb the flower, a flower.
And then you have this like vine whip ability to like swing to areas to achieve like height in different levels to get to the upper levels where you need to be.
and there's other ones where you can become fire
and you can melt ice to get unlocked stuff.
So there's a lot of different options to help you do these puzzles.
But it is cool because there is a good kind of,
there's a lot that you can do.
And ones that you wouldn't expect.
Like you can become cardboard and you're a cardboard Tito,
which is so cool looking and he's so cute
and he's like painted on the front,
but you're, you know, your cardboard thin.
So you can get through certain areas that you otherwise would,
be able to get through.
So being able to absorb stuff, it changes the way you navigate the level and how you get
through certain areas and you need it to get through those areas.
So it's a really cool mechanic that they have in this game.
And it's, yeah, just think of, think of Kirby, like absorbing things.
Like, that's what Tito does.
He absorbs things and can change to fit kind of the setting that you need to use those mechanics
for.
Yeah, the way the abilities kind of infect the environment.
like you have there's one level specifically I'm thinking about where you have to get the sand wet with the water ability first and then come back with the you know the pale ability to make sand castles I thought that was a really cool like little process there yeah in a lot of the I the reason I kind of wanted to pause on this is this is one of the things that I think Tito does really well that adds a variety of gameplay to it um you know there are there's a lot like I tried to look up the exact number and it just says there's dozens and I the more I count.
there probably are at least a dozen transformations throughout the game.
Some of them are fairly simple.
You know, but, you know, others are a little bit more complex, you know, and some of them,
you might only find for like one level in the game.
Like, honestly, like, you know, there's ice, right?
Like, where it's like, okay, well, that's like one level in the game.
But these transformation abilities play a couple roles to me.
One is just gameplay variety, which I think is really cool.
And the other one is kind of like a very light puzzle solving.
There's no puzzle in Tito.
that requires any kind of like, you know, complex thinking or anything.
But there are still this like, how do I get from point A to point B?
Oh, well, I have to melt this ice cube using fire.
And, you know, to do that, I have to use the plant transformation so I can grapple hook up
to this ledge up there so that I can then access the fire, fall down and then melt the ice or
something like that.
So, you know, I thought that that was a really neat mechanic.
It's not something that we haven't seen before.
Astrobot famously did this.
It's, you know, one of the things that I think
made Astrobot utterly fantastic
was this. But if
it works, it works. And Intito,
I feel like it works really well because
it just adds that variety to the
gameplay that I think you kind of need in a
3D platformer so that it doesn't start feeling
very routine
as you get towards like the end of the game. If it was Pokemon
they would have sued them.
Yeah.
Only we can absorb stuff.
We did transformation. We can absorb.
Only we can absorb. Only we
he can absorb.
Yeah, I think you need those kind of abilities to sort of help with the gameplay flow.
Otherwise, it's just a big 3D collectathon where it's very basic and you've got very basic
combat, very small confined.
Spiro.
All right.
I just, I know this.
You're going to get some hate from that one, dude.
You're going to get some hate.
I know people love Spiro and listen, Spiro is fine.
I just like trolling it because people.
come out of the woodwork and get super mad if you say anything bad about Spiro.
There's a lot of Spiro stands for sure.
Yeah.
Okay.
So you've got your transformations.
You've got the, there are enemies in this game.
I'm going to say, I actually wish there was a little bit more fighting and variety
in the enemy types because they're almost an afterthought.
And especially in a 3D platformer, sometimes that worry.
And I'll reference Astrobot again.
And listen.
if we are using Astrobot as a comparison for a 3D platformer,
it means there's something good here.
You know what I mean?
Like that's a really good comparison that you want.
And that is a positive in this case to go,
hey, I'm going to compare this indie 3D platformer to quite possibly one of the greatest
platformers ever made in Astrobot.
In this case, the shadow corruption is your enemy.
They pop up from time to time.
They are not a threat.
No.
Honestly, it's almost like this is simply an excuse to push the button, the attack button in this game, because
you do have an attack button.
But I feel like the enemies are really not anything to ever worry about.
I found myself jumping up so I could time like dive attacks just like that's from a hat in time.
Some sort of like.
Oh, is that kind of like.
That is pulled straight from a hat and time.
Oh, that's cool.
That lock on dive.
Yeah.
Yeah.
It's so.
I found myself doing that a ton just to like have some sort of.
sort of like combat mechanic and then I'm like
all right cool and then I go off and jump around
more. It's very reminiscent
of like Sonic's homing dash
whereas like he jumps up the end and then he
wing.
It's funny because it's almost like that's overkill
though because it's literally these enemies
die in one hit. Yeah.
They don't hurt you. They don't swarm
you like I like
that there is this combat
light in the game.
It was just honestly it was reason to push another button
Yeah, you didn't add a ton.
I mean, my dumb lizard brain is like, you know, it kind of likes that because it's like, oh, okay, well, I get to push a different button now.
Like, I do wish they had done more with the enemy types, the enemy variety and maybe just the, like, the difficulty of some of the enemies.
I think that would have added a little bit to the game.
There are boss fights in this game, which I quite enjoyed.
Now, none of those are super crazy mechanics, but they were all kind of fun in their own way.
I don't want to spoil any of the boss fight stuff because those are.
kind of some of the highlights of the game.
Yeah, they're funny.
Okay, okay, good.
You're letting me go.
I was like Ryan,
I'm saying, don't say it.
No, the,
Acknowledgeable Snowman is,
Acknowledgeable Snowman is like one of the greatest
bosses I've ever played in any game ever.
It was so freaking awesome,
and I want to go into more,
but I'm going to let anyone that wants to play this game.
Experience it.
Experience it.
Yeah, let me feel.
But wait until you do.
It's pretty early in the game.
So it'll be one of the best boss fights.
It's so funny.
And additionally to that, I think overall the game, the humor in this game is so good.
There's so much stupid, like, dad humor and just dumb fun stuff that you catch it.
And it's just even throwaway things.
You're like, oh, you know, you chuckle.
It's really, it's really genuinely a funny game, too.
Like, other than just being a 3D platformer and, you know, lacking a little bit of combat and stuff.
But with the boss fights and then the dialogue and the humor in it, man, I freaking love that.
I'll tell you, I actually do want to talk about the humor in this.
I want to talk about some of the levels too because I think some of the level design in this game actually stood out and makes that.
But we're going to take a quick break and then we're going to talk about why the vibe on this game and this humor and how it fits and how that kind of helps make this kind of unique in its own right.
And we'll talk about a little bit about the level design.
We'll be right back after this break.
All right, we're back.
We're talking Tito.
Ryan, you had just mentioned the humor in this game.
And one of the things that we see from just about everybody that has played Tito, ourselves included, I won't speak for you guys, but I'll speak for myself, is I absolutely love the whimsy and the lighthearted nature of this game.
You know, I mean, there's plenty of serious games out there.
There's plenty of, you know, gut-wrenching stories and things like that.
is not one of those.
This is a silly game with a really,
I'm going to say dumb sense of humor,
but I mean that as a compliment to where it's like,
this is not like highbrow comedy going on,
but I chuckled so many times
at the voice lines in this game,
the characters in this game,
even the names, like minor, minor spoiler,
but they showcase this in one of the demos that they,
or not a demo,
but like a trailer that they released,
where like there's a vending machine
that's blocking your way and it's Vend Diesel, you know,
and they tried to get Vend Diesel to, like, actually voice the, this,
but it's like, there's just so many dumb things where you come across these characters,
they're in the world, and they have the most insane, like,
dumb things that they're talking about, but you can't help but just laugh and chuckle
and go, like, why are you in this game right now?
Like, who put you here?
But the developers put them there because it makes you laugh,
and it makes you feel that kind of just lighthearted, silly nature of this game.
I absolutely love the vibe of Tito.
And it's hard to quantify a vibe for people.
But like Tito is a vibe.
Like this whole game is just kind of this happy, go lucky, really kind of dumb, like you said, Ryan, almost dad humor in a way with these outlandish characters.
But this is part of why the exploration and the levels works so well is because you just never know what you're
going to find at the same time.
Maybe, and this is a little bit of a spoiler, but maybe you might be exploring a snowy
mountain and happen to come across a cave that maybe has three bears doing a podcast in a
cave.
You know, and maybe if you find, if you find that cave, you might feel a little bit of
familiarity with the podcast that you hear.
But this, this carries through the whole game.
Like there are many, many times where you can interact with a character or not.
And you just pass by and they're having a conversation.
Yeah.
And it just fleshes out this world that they built.
It fleshes out the humor and the whimsy in this game.
And honestly, it's one of my favorite parts of this game.
I remember when I picked up the berry for the first time and then the berry just starts
talking about how it wants to die and it's their child.
It is Mitch and
Halley's kid
doing the voice.
They voice the Barry.
The Barry is so depressed
and it just wants to die.
Just end it all.
Just end me already.
Yeah.
I know only suffering.
There is.
There's so many good just crazy lines.
And you could tell where like you see,
you know,
in some of the best comedy and with TV shows like,
with like Larry David.
Like they talked about like,
He does what makes him laugh and he does what he thinks is funny.
And when you're funny, that works.
So I genuinely think, you know, these devs, like, they really put the time in and doing what made them laugh.
And then it carried through because it was genuine.
You know, and it was genuinely like real world stuff and real world, like you said, I mean, Josh, the vend the vending machine thing with like Ven diesel.
Yeah, it's like, come on.
Like, who would have put that there?
You know, and so, and there's a bunch of stuff like that in this game, which you just, you notice as you go through.
And then even with, even with the Michaels and stuff.
So there's, there's so much of that throughout where it just makes it genuinely enjoyable and, and feel genuine as well.
I think it's pretty funny when, yeah, you finish that first boss.
So we're, we're not going to go in detail of it.
But then Norrie just looks at Tito and says, we have to get off this mountain.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
We need to get out of here.
We need to get off this mountain now.
Yeah.
So let's do that.
Let's talk about some of the level design because, you know, in a 3D platformer, you know,
there's a couple things to me that are paramount.
We'll actually, let's touch on all these.
Number one, controls.
Okay.
If you are making a platformer, you better have your control scheme dialed in.
I will say for the most part, I thought Tito did a pretty good job at this.
I will say that there were a couple times and I've seen this.
and some of the reviews for the game
where the forward acceleration
when you're trying to make a jump
it no go. It no go.
It's shaking his head.
And then you go.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yep.
And so that was a little bit of like,
I felt like the forward,
it's really just the forward acceleration part.
Like the double jumping and the landing
and the distance you travel through the air
all felt really good to me.
It was just this,
if you hold forward and you try to get speed
and you need to jump forward half the time,
well, not half the time, but more a decent bit.
A lot.
I would just whiff that jump and then fall to my death
or have to, you know, run back up the stairs
or something like that.
Well, because the way Tito works is it's natural acceleration.
It's not something you could force because there's no sprint button.
So you can't like hold the button to get more speed.
But because it is a momentum-based platformer,
if you do not have momentum,
you will not be moving forward.
and you will just be jumping straight up in the air and fall to your death.
And that was one of the issues I came across as well as, man, that glider is inconsistent.
Oh, yeah.
You do get a little, like a parachute basically where if you jump and then press and hole jump,
you'll pull out your glider and then you can float.
There were times where I felt like it had too much weight and it wouldn't quite glide as far as I was hoping it would.
And then sometimes it just wouldn't glide and deploy at all.
Yeah, and I don't know if that was user error.
Like maybe I couldn't do it after a double jump or something.
But yeah, that part felt a little inconsistent too.
Now, all this to say, there's a couple small hiccups with the controls in the game,
but there's really no, there's no like punishment for falling to your death either.
Tito just instantly respawns.
Maybe it puts you back at the checkpoint or at the, you splat.
Yeah, you splat.
Yeah, or you splat.
Get an achievement for 20 spots.
Yeah, so it's not punishing in a sense where it's like you get put really far back or something like that.
But I will say the controls for the most part felt good.
Now, the other thing you need in a 3D platformer are good levels.
And I feel like for Tito, this is actually one of the good parts of this game.
Like the levels to me all felt very unique.
They felt like they were different locations.
They each had their kind of own feel to them.
And I really love, and again, I don't want to spoil anything.
but I really love that there are a couple levels
that take a different perspective in this game
to where it's no longer like a 3D platformer,
maybe it's a 2D platformer for a little while
or something like that to where they do mix up
these kind of how the level is approached
or what you actually do in an individual level
to just add that variety of gameplay as well.
What did you guys think about the levels in this?
I think it does an excellent job playing around
with the different themes and the different perspectives
like you were saying and just keeping things very fresh
with the level design. Also, they do a very
good job at hiding the collectibles so it doesn't feel
very stale. Like, I'm not always looking
in the same places. I'm always
like, oh, I've got to check behind me again
because that's where they're going to put it. Now,
it's in front of me, but it's on a ledge
that's just below my eyesight that I
cannot see unless I walk up to it
instead of jump. So I thought it was
really well done. Quite good design.
I agree. I think it was good. Because
there was a couple times where I went through
and then I look and I'm like, I only got
four or five of the
The Vionites?
I'm like, where was the other one?
And I had to go look.
And I'm looking around.
And then I finally I see it.
And I'm like, oh, there it is.
You know, and then I got to figure out how the heck I'm going to get to it.
So they did do a good job on the level of design.
I think they were, a lot of them were very unique.
And then like you said, Josh, there's different characters and stuff within everyone in
conversations.
So it made all those levels feel kind of fresh and unique and different.
And even if some of the mechanics,
mechanics were the same or the, you know, you use the bucket in the same level or whatever,
the level itself felt different. It wasn't the same. And then additionally, the, the lines,
the, the, you know, the voice lines were different always, like the one in the tree when you're
from the outside and you go in and then, and then she goes, oh, this tree didn't look this big from
the outside or whatever she says. And you're like, and it's this giant cavern. You're like,
whoa. It's its own level. Yeah, it's like its whole level. And she's like, this wasn't this
from the outside. So there's all
of that, there's a lot that goes into every
level and I think that they did a really good
job on making every single one
feel a little bit different, even if you're
using some of the same
absorption technique things.
They were all a little
different. Yeah.
All right. So I want
to, we're going to give our kind of thoughts
on Tito here in a little bit. I mean,
we've kind of talked about the control scheme. We've talked
about the level design. We've talked about the humor.
You know, we've talked about the 3D
platformer elements. This game borrows from a lot of the greats.
Like Ace, you mentioned hat and time. We've talked about Astrobot. They reference
Banjo Kazui. That's why you have Tito with Norrie on his back. Um, you know, this feels
very comfortable for anybody that has played any of the greats in this genre. And it kind of just
naturally fits in. Like you feel very comfortable with this game right away. Um, you know,
it is a two person development team. No game is perfect. Um, um, um, um, you know, it is a two person development team. Um, um,
You know, and, you know, we always say, hey, this is, you know, this stood out to me as something they could have done better.
I do wish the difficulty level of the game was a little bit harder.
This, for me, other than a couple of the boss fights, like I will say, I died quite a few times on some of the bosses because you only get three hearts.
Yeah.
And three hearts, it's easy to, it's easy to get hit and die.
And they don't always replenish your hearts for you very quickly.
So, like, while I did die on a couple of the bosses, overall, for some.
somebody like me that is a masochist,
I did feel like the game was a little
easy. Give me pain. For the most part.
Yeah, like I almost want a little bit
more of the pain. Like Astrobat did this, right?
Like Astrobat for the most part,
was kind of easy until it wasn't easy.
And I like that, like that, like,
oh crap, like this level's hard.
And Tito definitely has some like,
you know, some platformer sections
and then just some like run through the level sections.
But one of my complaints would be
I do wish it had a slightly higher difficulty level that just challenged me a little bit more
because I didn't really ever feel challenged when I was playing this.
And so for me, that's probably one of my biggest complaints.
Ace, I know you said that you ran into a few bugs in the game.
Yeah, I ran into a few movement bugs.
And, you know, I'm willing to, you know, blame my PC at this point because I'm behind on everyone else as everyone else is.
Well, I think we all experienced a couple of the same bugs too.
But I think we all experienced the cannon bugs.
where you got in the snow cannon,
it shot you up a level,
and then now you can't.
And then you were just animation locked or something.
Way to go, Jiggle Puff.
You didn't find that one.
Yeah, geez.
What was your bug testing for, bud?
Oh, man.
Jinglepuck, catch it straight.
Now he's not going to send me maple syrup next year.
Dang it.
None for you, brother.
None for you.
Nobody's safe around here.
Nobody.
Nobody.
Yeah, I had that bug.
I had like, it was mostly like movement-based bugs,
which is not great for a movement platformer.
this.
And especially when I had just played another platformer not too long ago, and I didn't
have any of those kind of bugs.
Yeah.
Yeah.
No, it's.
And I'm trying.
I am being very gentle and very forward.
I do think Tito is great, but I struggle to find what makes it stand out aside from like
that humor that I could also find in a hat in time.
I can find that kind of like stuff in other games.
So I'm just kind of struggling to find what, what does Tito do that makes me want to recommend
it to someone over a hat in time, over Mr. Sleepy Man, over, you know, these greats.
My answer to that, and I don't know if it's your answer, but since you said what's like,
to me, it's the vibe.
And again, I kind of said like, it's hard to quantify a vibe for a video game.
But like, and we saw this from people in our community, right, where they started playing it
and they went, guys, like, I'm just having fun.
This game just makes me, like, happy, you know, like, and I know that sounds like a goofy
thing because I agree with you.
I don't like this game is not astro bot.
It is not Banjo Cazui.
I've never played Hat in Time,
but I know how Rivier hat and time is.
You know,
and it's like it is not any of those games.
And it,
but it borrows elements from those games.
And I think it borrows the right elements from those games.
And while it doesn't surpass any of those,
I think that it's a,
this is kind of like a Jack of All Trades Master of Nun type thing.
But I think the vibe of Tito is what kind of sets it apart.
You know,
It's just a happy game.
Yeah, that's what I was going to say is it's the setting and the feeling the game can give you that really makes it stand out from the others.
It may not be able to match them like mechanically or story-wise or anything like that, but it is just the feeling you get from playing it.
You just feel like you're playing, you know, Mario 64 or Banjo Cazoozee for the first time again.
You just feel good.
You just feel good.
Yeah, you just feel good.
Like imagine, like you have, you know, five burger joints and they're all close and similar, you know, and taste and food.
flavor. Some are better than others, but this one is like the vibe. And you go in there,
you just feel good and it's fun, you know, and you enjoy yourself in there. And so like,
you'll put up with a burger that may not be as amazing, but it's still a burger and you're
having a good time. So I think this game does that. It's got a little bit of issues and it's got
some things that need to be fleshed out. But for first time developers and a couple that have
made something that they put their heart and soul into, like I think they,
did a really, really good job.
And it came out awesome.
Yeah.
You can absolutely tell that this game was made with passion for just the game itself.
You know, like this isn't we're hoping to get rich.
Not everybody wants to make money from their hard work.
Oh, of course.
But like this, this was very much a, we're going to make the game that we want to make.
We're going to do these silly voice lines and, and have fun and put people in our family and
people that we know into the game because it's our game and we can do that.
all just works. You know what I mean? None of it felt shoehorned in. None of it felt forced or
anything like that. Um, is it a perfect game? Absolutely not. Does it have some bugs? Yes, it does.
Um, were any of those like game breaking? No. No. You know, um, the animation lock from the
cannons was a little weird. That was probably the worst bug. Um, you know, but we saw, I saw a post from the
developers where they said, hey, it's time to squash bugs now that the game's released. Um, we're aware of
these and you know that's a that's just kind of a thing that happens especially with a small
that's just part of the modern day development process that you're not going to catch everything
upon release and you're going to have to catch them later but yep so um all right so let's guys
let's give our thoughts on this game as a whole how would you rate tito right i'm going to
throw it to you first on this one okay so i um as a one of the biggest fans in the world of like
dad jokes and in humor and this is what i keep it
equating this too just because it I don't know I'm a dad and it hit every level that I wanted
and then the gameplay was good it was mostly pretty tight for the for the platforming stuff I
got to play a little bit with my son and we we hung out and played it and laughed at the stuff
I loved all the Michaels um DJ Michaels my favorite for sure but there was a ton and in always
seeing the different types that that came up with every level so it was always like unique to find
them. I'm going to give it 8.3. I think that it was up there.
You're so close to my rating.
Is it? Yeah. It was way too calibrated. I know, right? It was up there. But like, I think
if things were, the nuts and bolts were tightened up a little bit more, all of the base is
so good. And I'm really excited to see where they go with their next game, because they're
obviously going to do another one. They got, they got, you know, people behind them and they got backers
and all that stuff. So, so there's momentum here, and I'm very much excited to see where this goes.
So I had a blast. I would definitely recommend it to anyone. It's at an awesome price. You can't beat it
for, you know, the quality of the game you get for what you pay. Support your indie devs. They're from
New Zealand, which is awesome. And also, if you need voices for your next game,
game, hit me up.
I can do a lot of stuff.
And that's it.
Ryan's sucking up already.
Yeah, I am.
So, well, here's my non-suck-up review.
Oh, hold on.
That's a fair and honest score.
It is not any.
That is a fair score.
I mean, I can put it on like a 9-5 if that'll help.
Oh, no.
I, like, I'm with you, man.
I think that this is a thoroughly enjoyable game.
It does not rock the boat.
It doesn't do anything that we haven't seen before.
But what it does, it does well in just about every regard.
You know, any of my complaints are, I feel like are nitpicky on this.
It does need a few bug fixes.
Again, they're not game breaking or anything like that.
But like overall, this game presented really well.
I always had fun when I was playing Tito.
I never minded playing Tito.
I always looked forward to it.
I looked forward to see what the next level was.
It didn't feel very challenging for me.
That's a personal complaint.
you know, some people will like that.
Like my wife doesn't want challenging,
but she's interested because she sees how pretty the game is
and she knows it's not really hard and that interests her, you know.
So she actually wants to play Tito.
You know, price wise, it's right on the money.
I think that for seven hours that I got out of it,
eight and a half if you're a completionist,
I mean, $17 for eight hours worth of, you know,
just kind of joy and whimsy in your life seems like a no-brainer to me.
again, it's not pushing the envelope.
This is not one of the greatest 3D platformers ever made,
but for a genre that doesn't really give a lot of entries that are quality entries,
um,
that play well and are enjoyable to experience.
I think Tito does a really good job.
Um,
I was really torn between an 8.0 and an 8.2.
And since Ryan went 8.3,
I'm going to,
I'm going to give it the 8.2 just so that we're,
we're close to each other on that one.
Nice.
Um,
You know, it is, it is an enjoyable game.
I think it's well worth the money.
I think it's well worth supporting these kind of developers
because you will enjoy yourself.
You will have a good time.
The game is, is well done.
And I enjoyed my time with it.
And that's kind of, honestly, for $18, that's really all you hope for, you know,
is something that you walk away with going like, I enjoyed that.
Yeah, it was a good time.
And I do want to say real quick before Ace gives his final thoughts, too,
this is available on like, like, everything.
but I played mostly on my steam deck.
Thank you, McSweddy.
It played beautifully.
Absolutely beautifully.
It's on Switch 2 and Switch.
So it's also really, really good on handheld.
So, you know, give to your little demons and they can play,
well, you're at the doctor's office or whatever.
Yeah.
Just to clarify, it is on Nintendo, Switch, PC, and PlayStation 5.
It's not on Xbox.
I'm not sure why, but somebody asked and they said that not at this time would it be
Xbox. I'm not sure what that
reasoning is there. All right, Ace, what are
your thoughts on Tito? As
someone who plays
a lot of indie games, specifically, I have played
a lot of these indie 3D platformers.
Tito definitely has
heart. It's got a great environment. You just
feel good playing it. Feel good after you leave
playing it. But
it lacks that, you know,
tight precision that I look for
in a 3D platformer. It's what I enjoy
out of a 3D platformer is being able to string
together moves to, you know, do these perfect jumps, these precision platforming moments or,
you know, whatever attacks and things like that in a hat and time where the enemies are actually
pretty challenging and can actually screw you up pretty good. And, you know, Tito is fairly easy.
I think Tito is basically, it's a kid's game, I think. It feels a little bit like a kid's game, but,
you know, it's whatever. It's fine. It still feels like a game I can play as an adult and have a great
time and experience it and it doesn't feel like it's dumbed down for me.
And, you know, I applaud them for that.
But for me, it's like a 7.9.
It's not quite an 8 for me.
And that's, and maybe that's just because I had a few bugs that really killed a lot of
my platforming joy.
It seems like you had a few more than we did.
Yeah, I definitely had a few more than you guys did.
And some of those just really, like, got in the way of my enjoyment of the game where I was,
like, in mid-platforming and I would just get sucked out of the air or something would
happen where it would just ruin the whole like momentum I have going because I just like to
run man when I'm platformer I like to go yeah I'm on a royal especially like that log you were
talking about where you have to climb to the top oh yeah the amount of times I would just like
stall in the air when I was jumping to the other ledge and there was no like mid snow save point in the
middle so you just have to start to the bottom again but I don't think that's any fault of the
devs it's their first game they did a phenomenal job I absolutely don't think that's not a reason
to support them.
Especially for this price,
this is a great 3D platformer,
especially for an entry level one.
Yeah, I mean, we're comparing this to the greats.
I'm comparing this.
I'm comparing to a hat time,
Anjo Czui, ukulele.
Like, there's a lot of big names here.
Yeah.
And just to be clear,
it's not on that level,
but the fact that we're using those games as references
tells you that there is a,
there is a genuinely like solid 3D platformer
to be had in Tito.
So, all right, well, there you go, everybody.
is our thoughts on Tito. So a 7.9 from Ace and 8.2 for me and an 8.3 from Ryan. This is a just solid,
enjoyable, whimsical, funny, cute game to play. It's not going to, it's not going to, you know,
blow you away with its innovation or any of that stuff. But if you're looking for a 3D platformer
that is a good time, I mean, Tito is a strong recommend from us for for that genre and for this game.
And again, you know, we say all the time we want developers that make games with passion.
And, you know, that does come into play.
When you get to meet genuinely good people that you can tell absolutely care and love the game that they're making and want to make it for gamers, that stands out.
That's the kind of thing we want to support.
So if you want a good game to play and support good developers, Tito, you can't go wrong with that one.
So all right.
Well, there you go, boys.
That's going to do it for this episode.
