Starting point is 00:00:00 Let's talk groceries, specifically your groceries. With Instacart, you want your groceries just the way you like them, right? Well, the Instacart app lets you do just that. They have a new preference picker that lets you pick how ripe or unripe you want your bananas. Shoppers can see your preferences up front, helping guide their choices. Instacart, get groceries just how you like. Amazon Presents, Laura versus Fruitflies. Swarming your fruit and terrorizing your children.
Starting point is 00:00:30 kitchen. These little freaks multiply at a rate that would make a rabbit say, yo, chill. But Laura shopped on Amazon and saved on cleaning spray, countertop wipes, and fly traps. Hey, fruit flies, your baby boom ends here. Save the Everyday with Amazon. Hello, fellow gamers and welcome to the video gamers podcast. What's the best multiplayer game. Well, that's an impossible question. So how about just, what's your top five? That can be pretty difficult as well, but we're going beyond such easy things. On today's episode, we're breaking down the top 10 best multiplayer games. Fear not, this isn't going to be a list of Steam's free-to-play shooters, but the actual best of the best multiplayer games. Before we get to the fun,
Starting point is 00:01:42 Some introductions are in order. I am your host, Josh, and joining me in his mind, every multiplayer game is a blast because he just wants to hang out with the homies. It's Ryan. I'm just a chill guy and I'm here for a good time. You know, no big deal. Okay. All right.
Starting point is 00:02:07 And joining us. He's too old. He's too old. He's too old. Messing up my intro, Brian. I spent a lot of time writing this out, you know. And joining us, we told him he can't have both Overwatch and Marvel rivals, so he has to just choose one.
Starting point is 00:02:26 And he's never looked so sad in his life. It's Ace. It's like making me pick between my children, man. My non-existent children within my mind. Ace, you have to pick one right now. Right now. Go on your head. Which one, Ace.
Starting point is 00:02:39 Right now. It's definitely Overwatch. much. We took Ace away from you and we showed him what a real hero shooter is and he's never looking back. Yeah, never looking back. Looks at Steam history,
Starting point is 00:02:55 opened to both games recently. Yeah, yeah. Tying him and who? As long as you know which one's better. As long as you know which one's better. Wait, who's the character that you're excited about,
Starting point is 00:03:05 Ace that's coming up? Black Widow. Or no, no, Black Cat. Black Cat. She's out. She's out.
Starting point is 00:03:11 Black Cat's out. Black Cat's out. Oh, I'm going back. The cat is loose. The cat is out. Black Cat is out, man. All of a sudden, just something. All of a sudden I see Ace is playing Marvel rivals.
Starting point is 00:03:24 Oh, no, I forgot to go invisible. What's going on here? Whoops. Well, welcome in everybody. Guys, this is, we don't do this often. We're going to get in trouble. We're going to get in trouble. We're going to get in trouble.
Starting point is 00:03:41 but we are doing it because we haven't done it in a while. And we have a consensus list of the top 10 multiplayer games of all time. This is the best of the best. Hands down, that's it. Normally, normally we would each come up with our own list and say, well, here's my list. Ryan, there's your list. And there's your list. But we said, no.
Starting point is 00:04:06 On this show, we are agreeing on every game in the top 10 list. list, which didn't happen, by the way. No, no, I didn't. So instead, what we did is we went, okay, well, we're not going to agree. We agreed on a lot of them. That's the kicker. So then we went, we got to stop fighting because we were really, we were not kind to each other. So then we went, okay, how do we solve this dispute?
Starting point is 00:04:31 And we went, Golden buzzer. So a golden buzzer game, we each get one game to include in this list. The other guys don't get a say. So we each have a game, but we're saying, no, this game belongs in the top 10 multiplayer games of all time. So it will mix the list up just a little bit. Ryan and Ace's picks are dumb. So, you know, forgive us, forgive us. You know, it's more like a really good top eight list in my opinion.
Starting point is 00:05:00 Oh, okay. You know, no. Actually, no, you're right. It is a top eight list. Yeah. Yeah. Well, what's funny is I was like, Ace, I'm really glad you mentioned that. we don't get eviscerated online for ACE's mention.
Starting point is 00:05:15 Now, here's the thing. We did not, because this is too hard, and let's be honest, people, like, we'll challenge ourselves, but we're not going like number 10 through number one. So there is no, this is the number one game of all time, right? Like, that's, it's just not going to happen. This is no particular order. We'll let you the listeners decide what order you think they go in. We'll also let you decide if you think we're crazy or not.
Starting point is 00:05:40 I will say that what we did is these are our personal consensus rankings. Because look, we know. We know that League of Legends is popular, right? We know that Dota 2 is popular. We know that Counterstrike is popular. We did not want to just regurgitate Steam's highest concurrent player count games. Okay? Because we know there's going to be people if you love Counterstrike and you're like,
Starting point is 00:06:08 bro, I have 5,000 hours in CounterStrike. It's the greatest multiplayer game of all time. We're very happy for you. But like, you could make the argument that there's a lot of gamers out there that probably don't view CounterStrike as a top 10 game of all time. Right. So what we did is we really tried to go, hey, what do we feel like are the top multiplayer games out there?
Starting point is 00:06:30 So yes, there's going to be some variation between Steam's concurrent games. League of Legends, not on the list. Sorry to all you people that love League of Legends. We're happy that you love it, but we're not putting it in our top 10 list of all time. However, I'm looking at this list, and these are some pretty freaking good games on this list, guys. So if you are in the market for going, let me make sure I've played all these games and you haven't, you're probably going to find a game that you're going to really, really enjoy it with some friends. So the other aspect is we try to go multiplayer.
Starting point is 00:07:07 there are some co-op games on this list as well. We didn't differentiate between it's strictly co-op or it's, you know, mass multiplayer or something like that. So, all right. I guess since this is a consensus list, there's nobody that says they have to nominate something or anything like that. But let's just take turns. We do have some honorable mentions at the end, and we only did this to cover our butts. Because if we didn't name some of these honorable mentions, we were going to get just called out by everybody in the comments. Yeah, so we went, well, we've got to mention some of these because if we don't, the internet will destroy us and we don't want that either.
Starting point is 00:07:45 So, all right. You guys ready? Yeah, I'm scared. No, I'm not ready. Let's be honest, most of these people are going to agree with. Okay. And let me, I'll tell you what, I will give one other behind the scenes. I made a list, Ryan made a list, Ace made a list.
Starting point is 00:08:02 And if we had two games on a person's list, we said, okay, that belongs in this list. majority rules. We did not. I will say this. This is the part that really kills me. We did not have a single game that all three of us agreed on. No. Not one.
Starting point is 00:08:18 At all. Nope. Like Ace and I agreed on, I think, four games. Ryan and I agreed on like two games. And then we kind of talked it over and said, are you okay with the game that Ace and I agreed with? And Ryan was like, yeah, that's fine. I can understand that should be on the list.
Starting point is 00:08:34 And then same thing with Ryan. I think Ace and Ryan, I think you guys had one or none. We had zero. We had zero. Zero the same hands. What that's telling me is I'm the most agreeable person on this podcast because both of you had games that I had on my list, but neither one of you had a single game that you both had on your list. So I'm the agreeable one.
Starting point is 00:08:54 I mean, everybody knew this anyway. But I just like that there's proof now. So, I see. All right. Guys, let's start off. I'll just throw out the first one. Now, I will say I didn't play this game a ton, but I did, I probably have like 20, 20 hours, 25 hours in this. You can't talk about the best multiplayer games in the world.
Starting point is 00:09:16 If you don't talk about the game that took over the world, that people are still playing to this day. World of Warcraft. Yeah. It's, I mean, there's no world that exists where you talk about the best multiplayer games of all time. And the biggest MMO to ever see the light of day isn't on this list. Ace, did you ever play World of Warcraft? No, no, that was something we talked about, I believe, that episode with Paul,
Starting point is 00:09:41 is that I have never touched in the MMO. Oh, that's right. Yeah, you're past the MMO face, man. That makes me sad. It's just not one for my generation, man. There's not. Doesn't it kind of make you sad, right? It makes me sad, yeah, yeah.
Starting point is 00:09:59 Oh, no, I brought down the mood. No, I mean, I'm not that. I mean, it's, oh, you don't basically ruin the whole show, but it's all over now. I don't know for being born late, you know. My lack of unc status has caught up to me. Yeah, welcome, Ace. Welcome.
Starting point is 00:10:15 But, uh, there's some, no, there's something. There's, um, man, what, what, what, uh, crazy thing to, in the early 2000s to just bring into the world of, hey, here's this game. You can all play with other people from all across the world. And it's going to cost you 15 bucks a month and have fun. And they just give it to people. And, you know, Josh, you got kind of a first iteration in this with EverQuest. But once Wow really took over, like that was the mainstay.
Starting point is 00:10:48 And I mean, there's people that have been playing it since 2003 or four or whatever. And they have like literal years of gameplay time. Like years. And they just, that's all they have done for 25 years is play this game. You know, so it's. It's one of those that it has to be there. It is what set the standard for MMOs and online gameplay and what could be. And then it really made Blizzard what it is today.
Starting point is 00:11:16 Obviously they had Starcraft and they had Diablo and stuff like that and Warcraft and Warcraft, you know, all those. But like, wow was, it was just something different. Yeah. And it's still apparently insanely popular. Oh, yeah. Yeah. episode with Paul with the trivia and we had to guess how much money it's making still. And we were like, like just no way.
Starting point is 00:11:38 No way it's making that much still. But yes, it's still making that much. The World of Warcraft. Estimated 9 million active players. Yeah, that's what it was. It was like the peak player count was still the player count. Yeah. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:11:50 It's bananas, dude. All right. So World of Warcraft, absolutely on the list. You know, there's people that are going to argue it's falling off over the years and this and that and blah, blah, blah. And whatever. It's like, dude, you've got to give it its credit. So, Ace, why don't you name another one for us?
Starting point is 00:12:04 What's one that you want to talk about? Yeah, staying in the realm of Blizzard, uh, Overwatch is possibly one of the most fun multiplayer experiences. The rage, the joy, the satisfaction of winning your first 1v1 with your team and chat with you. It's like, there's just something special about Overwatch that no other game can really capture.
Starting point is 00:12:26 And then sometimes you go on a generational losing streak and you just want to end it all. And then you want to install and then maybe you, get chat ban for a little while and then you uninstall and then you go like a year without playing and then you in there maybe you reinstall it and get completely sucked back in again when the game starts you know being a lot better and I never
Starting point is 00:12:43 you guys when you're uninstalls like you get so mad that you uninstalled the game cracks me up like I just you've never uninstalled something I know I have literally never uninstalled a game out of rage ever I've uninstalled quite a few games out of rage no I'm just like oh I get mad and I turn it off
Starting point is 00:13:00 and then that's it like it'll be gone the next day. No, that game doesn't belong on my hard drive anymore. Screw that game, man. You're not even, you're not even worth the space on my hard drive anymore. Oh, God. There's something very cathartic about uninstalling something. You showed it. You showed that game. You showed
Starting point is 00:13:16 that game, Josh. And then I came crawling back a year later. Yes, you did. Yeah, oh, I did. And I'm loving it. I'm so glad I'm back, man. I freaking love Overwatch. Yeah, we have a great time. You reinstall, and it's like, he-he-he-he-he-ha. It's just laughing. You know,
Starting point is 00:13:32 You can't deny the impact that Overwatch has had. It's so stupid good. It's not for everybody. I know, but it's like, but it's one of those things. It's like, I know the hero shooters are not for everybody.
Starting point is 00:13:41 I know that people love rivals or there's other hero shooters that they like. But like, Overwatch has been around since 2016. It's a decade going and it's, I won't say it's stronger than ever, but it's still very, very healthy. It's way better than it's been in the past years.
Starting point is 00:13:54 That's for darn sure. I also say, it won game of the year in 2016. So it was doing something right. Yeah. It was doing something right for a long time, and I feel like it's doing something right now. It definitely had a rough period, but you can't deny that for a multiplayer game and when you're talking the best of the best, Overwatch with Friends, especially if you can get a crew together, is some of the best fun that you can have.
Starting point is 00:14:17 The come from behind wins, the rage-inducing losses, they all play into it, but it absolutely deserves to be on a top 10 list, in my opinion. Please stop adding characters, Blizzard. I can't keep up. Yeah. There's too many. I told it. We were playing last night and I was like, I'm getting to the point where I don't like every new character that they unveil.
Starting point is 00:14:37 And then Ace and my daughter both called me an old man. I was like, well, okay, that's fair. So, I mean, it's true. We did. I know. All right, Ryan. What's another one? What's another one on our top 10 list that you want to bring up?
Starting point is 00:14:51 So, continuing the trend of online multiplayer, we're going to go with this Halo 3. Oh, yes. there is there is not much better there's not much better in the world than like yeah dude even just oh god i got goosebumps now from a starting just starting the music yeah that was just the start man that's all that's all you need that shows if you show anyone that that you know that picture that was on every you know game stop and and all this stuff and then um it just it's
Starting point is 00:15:25 one of those, it's one of those games that they, they, as, as amazing as HALO 1 and HAL-2 were, Halo 3 was like that accumulation of just everything that they learned to make an almost perfect game. It was, it was some of the best online multiplayer between all the, the game modes and the abilities, and then the, the, the things that you could do, and the voicemover stuff, and everything about it just was it's partly nostalgia but partly just it was just that good. You know, it's
Starting point is 00:16:01 one of the best to ever do it far and away. Halo 3. It's a mainstay in any multiplayer gaming you know, kind of talk. And the campaign. The campaign was great. It was so good. We're not only talking the multiplayer part. We're talking the
Starting point is 00:16:17 campaign part, which is one of the best endings to a video game ever with the Warthog run. You know what I mean? So it's like I died on purpose so I could redo it. Yes. Like yes, so I could redo the run. It was so good. Halo 3, I can't, you know, you can argue a lot of the games on this list from different
Starting point is 00:16:35 perspectives, but I legitimately don't know anybody that could be like, Halo 3 doesn't belong on that list. Like, at that point, I'm going to be like, no, dude. Like, I vehemently disagree. Like, you can tell me you don't think World of Warcraft, blah, blah, blah. Halo 3 is like the one where it's like, I'll fight you on this because that game took over the world. It's absolutely the peak of the Halo series, in my opinion, for multiplayer.
Starting point is 00:16:56 Like, yeah, it's just incredible, man. And something about Halo, man. It's just special. Like, I've haven't... You know... I admit it, I have not played the original Halo series because it was not available to me at the time. Halo re... What are they calling it? The re... What's the campaign that the
Starting point is 00:17:11 remastering? No, no, they got their remake. Oh, you're right. There's a remake original Halo. Halo Kombat. Halo Combat, Revolved or something. That's probably what they would. do. We haven't heard about that in a long time. Yeah, I know, but it's coming and it looks good and we're going to be playing it.
Starting point is 00:17:27 That'll be a good time for me to get acquainted with Halo, but I have played Halo Infinite. And from what I've seen, it's just very, very well-down. You're going to get acquainted with Cortana. Yeah, yeah. So, all right, listen, we've got to take a quick break and then we'll come back and talk some more games that are on the top 10 best multiplayer games of all time. And we're going to have to get to some of our golden buzzers here as well. we'll be right back.
Starting point is 00:17:55 Guys, this just makes me want to play these games again, man. You know what I mean? Like, anytime you start talking about these games where they're just incredible, and then it's like, dang it, I want to play. We're playing Overwatch tonight regardless, so I know that's happening. So I know.
Starting point is 00:18:09 All right, I'll bring up one. This game is the game where if you are not a gamer, if you've got parents that aren't gamers, if you've got anybody that's like, what video game should I play? I'm not a gamer. Portal two.
Starting point is 00:18:22 Yeah. Portal 2 is the game. It is the game that you should tell everybody in the world to play. You know, your mom, your dad that are old and, you know, play Portal 2. It's easy to pick up. It gives people an introduction. Portal 2 is one of the all-timers of video games, in my opinion. If you have not played Portal 2, because I know there's a lot of people out there and maybe the younger crowd, if you have not played Portal 2, you need to play Portal 2.
Starting point is 00:18:51 it holds up phenomenally number one it does not feel dated at all number one which is a massive testament to portal two because when did that come out portal two is old dude yeah that you would never know that it's an older game it plays incredible the shenanigans you can get into the puzzles are unique and super entertaining and anybody in the world can pick up portal two you cannot talk the best multiplayer games and not have freaking portal two on that list and yeah i get it there's some people who can be like well it's only co-op you can only play with like two people. It doesn't matter. It's still like multiplayer, multi people. Yeah. But Portal 2 is, I mean, Portal 2 belongs on quite possibly the greatest games ever made of any genre, but especially in a multiplayer top 10. I would have said it belongs on the greatest game as well as just greatest puzzle games of all time. Yeah. The list, honestly. So, so Portal 2, okay, uh-oh, listen to this. No. Oh, no. I don't want to hear this. So it was, it was released. April 19th, 2011.
Starting point is 00:19:55 That's today. Bro, it's the 15 year anniversary. We're literally recording on April 19th. We're recording on the anniversary of Portal 2. When I looked at it up, I was like, no way. Yeah. How about that? Look at that.
Starting point is 00:20:07 15 years, dude. Happy birthday. And, dude, Portal 2 holds up. Yeah, it does it barely hold up. It stands like, it's fantastic, man. It's set to do so, too. like the graphics the way they're set like you wouldn't tell the difference between then and now but the game is just so dang good that it doesn't matter that it's that old you know
Starting point is 00:20:30 you wouldn't know you they could they could release it today and it would feel like a new release yeah you know that's how good it is yeah they really would all right ace why don't you throw out another one for us what do you want to bring up uh well i can't go any further without mentioning our tried and true favorite of remnant two uh oh brother what's better than Dark Souls, Dark Souls with guns and with friends. That is what Remnant 2 is. And good graphics. And really pretty graphics. Bro, Remit 2.
Starting point is 00:21:02 Why can't we make Dark Souls look at? Don't forget the graphics. Hey, Ace, Ace, don't forget the graphics. It's literally a breaking bad name of him screaming in the car. Now, Ace, I want to say this because there's going to be a lot of people that are like, this is Josh's pick. This was on your list as well. This was on my list. I don't. I genuinely think Remnant 2 is a fantastic multiplayer game. It is great solo. Don't get me wrong. It's a fantastic game solo.
Starting point is 00:21:30 Having co-op just makes it so much more fun because everyone's got their own builds. Everyone's got their own archetypes and characters. Everyone's got their own weapons that they've picked up and worked under their class. It's just a great time, genuinely. Well, you also have to worry about friendly fire because it doesn't exist. So you can't walk in front of your buddy while he's lighting up something. it's very hard so it also has those moments of like two of you are down and I either have to try to finish off the boss or go res my buddies. So there's those like glorious you know you're the savior of the squad in the fight type moments.
Starting point is 00:22:05 Remnant 2 I've praised this game enough. I'm really not going to say much other than if you have not played Remnant 2 you should play it. It is difficult. It is a hard game. Yeah, it's hard. But I can think of few games that are so rewarding in their. gameplay, the build variety, the characters that you can, like, it's got literally everything, dude. So unless you're just not a fan of shooters and difficulty, if you like shooters, especially
Starting point is 00:22:32 co-op shooters, and you like amazing boss fights and vivid worlds that feel unique Remnant 2 is literally, I mean, it's the game that I tell everybody. It's like, it belongs on this list. And so I just wanted to clarify this is Ace and I both had this. So it's not just me forcing this game on this list either. And that's not to say that it wasn't. It wasn't like right on my list too. Like it just was right outside the zone.
Starting point is 00:22:55 But it was definitely there. Like this one is, is, it was fun. I don't have nearly as many hours as you guys do. But anytime I played with you, it was, it was so much fun.
Starting point is 00:23:07 Gosh, we had a, I want to see how many hours Josh has on run that too. Oh, don't look, Ace. Don't look. Do you really want me to do you really?
Starting point is 00:23:13 I, so for people that know, I don't beat video games. I get, I really just, it's, you know, I don't beat a lot of games.
Starting point is 00:23:19 And if I do beat a game, I certainly don't, go back and replay them. I have beaten every difficulty level of Remnant 2 to where I cannot, there is no more content for me. I have a hundred and twenty-two hours. 121.9 hours. Oh my gosh. Well, mine shows 122, so I don't know why you show a little bit different. But my actual playtime is 122.6. And he's missing 11 achievements still. Every second of Remnant 2. So there you go. There's enough of that people. Play it. You're missing out. It's one of the best games that I never hear people talk about, to be honest with you.
Starting point is 00:23:52 All right. Ryan, why don't you bring home this next one, Ryan? What's next on the top 10 multiplayer games of all times? Talking about bringing home. You know, what do you look for when you're in the world of multiplayer? You look for fun. You look for laughs. And then you look for chaos.
Starting point is 00:24:17 And what game delivers all three? That would be Hell Divers 2, baby. For a Super Earth. Yeah, look that. Dude, we have a thriving Hell Divers 2, like, grew up in our community. They play almost every night. We're so busy with all these other games and then all the other stuff in life that it's so hard to not download Hell Divers 2 just to link back up with. them and play again.
Starting point is 00:24:48 You know, like I want to, there was just something about, dun, dun, dun, dun, dun, like it made, you get the, you get the feeling deep inside. It was, the biggest thing with this game is, is the chaotic nature to where it lended itself to, just every time you played, it was a unique situation, a unique result.
Starting point is 00:25:12 And it wasn't just to run down the hill or run and do this mission or it was always we have to do this we have to do that everybody picks different uh uh accessibility things or load outs or or what you have so people are using different stuff all the time so there's always variables with every run you do and every match you do within this world that created just a uh uh a hectic amazing and then also like the patriotic nature of it like it made you aspire to play this game. You were like, you know, I'm a hell diver, man. You were like stoked to be a hell diver, which I loved.
Starting point is 00:25:55 I love, I love wanting to like be in that world. And like, that's the driving forces. Like, that's me. I'm, I'm him. I'm going to do this. You know, I loved it. I think it was one of the best. I had so much fun playing with you guys, playing with everyone else we played with.
Starting point is 00:26:12 It was, it was one of the most amazing times and amazing launches, even with all the issues that we had, the crazy weights we had to do and waiting like three hours, four hours to get into the servers. It was awesome. I think it's one of the best ever. I would agree.
Starting point is 00:26:29 I love just like plotting out your route. Whenever you got to the new map, you're like, yeah. Okay, if we want a hundred percent this, we need to start here and we'll work our way back around to the extract. And that was always so fun because it never went to plan. It never worked that way.
Starting point is 00:26:44 It never worked that way. I also like the difficulty levels. Like when you had the, what was the level? I think it was eight at the time where it was like, you know, the hardest core mode imaginable. And then you're just like, what is happening? Like, you know, you were going up against the cyborg dudes. And then it was like, there were just lasers everywhere.
Starting point is 00:27:04 And then you're like, what is this, man? Like, this is bananas. But then you somehow got good enough to kind of make it through, you know, with your squad. Hell divers too. I freaking love that game. there's very few games that have taken over the world like Hell Divers 2 did. And the fact that, like I said, we see a big group of people playing almost nightly.
Starting point is 00:27:23 Like, it just makes me happy inside me. Yeah, still thriving. Good to see. Yeah. Yep. So, all right. Let's see. I'm going to mention my golden buzzer.
Starting point is 00:27:36 Oh, he skirted around it. This is, this is, this is, well, I'm going to save this one for Ryan is why. So the other one that we all did agree on. but I think Ryan is the guy to talk about that one. All right. So the Golden Buzzer, there's games that we just couldn't agree on, like I said, and we said, you know what? The only way to solve this problem is to let each of us have a game that we feel belongs on this list.
Starting point is 00:27:57 Now, I will say that none of us picked some off-the-wall game. These are games that we truly believe belong in a top 10 list. Mine is Rocket League. I can't mention a top multiplayer 10 list without bringing up Rocket League. You know, I won't spend a lot of time. on it, but there are a few games that are as easy to get into as Rocket League. Everybody knows how to drive a car in a video game, right? Like the controls, they just work, right?
Starting point is 00:28:23 You can, if you're a newbie, you can give the controller to your five-year-old, and your five-year-old's going to be able to drive around and hit the ball. Okay, so it's like super, super approachable for people. Now, Ace is shaking his head, but it's like, Ace, we're not talking aerials here. We're just talking. I was like, I was really bad at Rocket League. I couldn't see it well enough. That's okay.
Starting point is 00:28:40 That's okay. But I definitely, I do understand. Yeah, we're coming from. When you have buddies and duos and trios, and they even had quads for a while, but that was a little bit, they just called it chaos mode because it was chaos. But like, Rocket League with a three stack or even duos is some of the greatest gaming I have ever experienced in my life, dude. I mean, I have, I think it's close to like 1,800 hours in Rocket League because it was
Starting point is 00:29:03 that much of a draw for me. Climbing the ladders, those last second come from behind wins, that kind of stuff. Incredible. This is my golden buzzer. It belongs in a top 10 list. And I pick this one because neither one of you know or appreciate what Rocket League is. So this is why I had to force this one in here. I know what it is.
Starting point is 00:29:24 No, but you don't know. I don't know. I don't know because I wasn't sucked into it like you. But I know. It's soccer with cars. I know what soccer with cars is. And that's the thing is like I know I played hockey. Like I know what the like angles and all this stuff.
Starting point is 00:29:39 And you do something. You're like, oh, that was pretty sick. And then you see like the progression and what people can really do, you know, and you see the difference in, in how far it can get. And then everyone I talk to, even guys that I know that are very casual gamers, all of them are like, yeah, we're playing some Rocket League. It's free to play now. Yeah. Yeah. It's a live service game, you know.
Starting point is 00:30:04 Yeah. It's literally been around for ages. But the beauty of that is that nothing in the gameplay changes from being like, from the cosmetic. and stuff. Like the base game is the game. It's just got such a high ceiling. Dude, I saw a video the other day because I haven't watched. I've been off, I haven't played Rocket League in probably eight months, right?
Starting point is 00:30:22 Like, I've got my time with it. I'm sure I'll go back to it at some point. But I saw a video of a guy that he's one of the top, like, players in the world now. He was doing things that I could not fathom. Like, legitimately, like, I could not fathom that you could do this in this game. So the progression in Rocket League is unlike, anything else to where it's like I got to wonder where we're going to be three years from now where people are doing things that even now that it blew my mind so that it's just it's an all-timer
Starting point is 00:30:51 for me so like I said that's my golden buzzer putting it in the list because I feel like it belongs there all right we've got one more consensus game and then you each have your golden buzzer so ace I'll let you decide which one you want to bring out oh I think I'm definitely going to go ahead and hit my golden buzzer here and bring out the game I think everyone's been waiting for someone to mention thank you thank you ace for saving at the podcast for this one. And that is none other than the Smash Bros. Specifically, I'll be talking about Super Smash Bros.
Starting point is 00:31:17 Ultimate, because that's the one I have the most time in. I didn't have it in 64. Yeah. Woo. No way. People are like, but what about Mario Kart? Well, I did have a hard time choosing between Mario Kart and Smash Bros. But I just enjoy Smash Bros more personally.
Starting point is 00:31:31 I think Smash Bros. Yeah. Just an enjoyable, great time. There is, I would argue, there's no better couch co-op game than Smash Bros. with just your four friends next to you where you're just beating the crap out of each other and getting more and more frustrated. It is one of the most obnoxious like
Starting point is 00:31:48 Oh yeah. Because you can just look over and see your friends like smug look while he's combo in the crap out of you. And he's like off the map over here and then he's like And you're about to recover. It's like way back up. Dang it. You like you use your aerial to recover and he jumps down and spikes you.
Starting point is 00:32:06 Yeah, yeah, exactly. He's like, I miss the Smash Bros era and that honestly makes me sad. Like I, yes, I have played Smash Bros. You were like five years to like three, four years, five years to. Like honestly, I was the, close. I was the era of the Street Fighter Mortal Kombat, Capcom Marvel type fighters, you know. So I miss Smash Bros.
Starting point is 00:32:28 I have played them. We bought it for the Switch when we had it. I was trying to get my family into it for a little bit. So it's like I'm very familiar. I miss the, you know, you and your buddies all. sitting there in the same room having a, you know, this, this, what is it four player? What is the maximum player? Is it four?
Starting point is 00:32:47 Is it six? Six, maybe? I can't remember. You can have quite a few. You could have quite a few players now. If it's local. Yeah. Yeah, locally.
Starting point is 00:32:56 Yeah. But there's this part of me that's like, man, I wanted to like be a part of all that. Like, why did I have to miss that era? You know, but this is one where we know that we like if we didn't mention smash bros that people were going to be like, you guys suck. You guys suck at this. And when Ace mentioned it, we were like, okay, thank goodness. Up to eight locally on console.
Starting point is 00:33:16 Eight locally on console. Okay, so it's correct. Yeah. Dude, Smash is so fun. Oh, my gosh. Eight and, oh my gosh. When it came out, I was working on the overnight shift, and my coworkers would bring it out and put it on the shelf. And we would just walk by because the store was closed and just start playing during their shift.
Starting point is 00:33:33 That's awesome. That guy was way too good with jiggly puff. He beat all of us. Productivity. Oh. It was night shift. We were the night crew. No one thought we did anything.
Starting point is 00:33:43 Nobody cared. Nobody cared. All right. All right. So we're going to go with the consensus one. The one that we have to mention. And we'll do a bunch of honorable mentions like we mentioned or said. But this one is Black Ops Zombies.
Starting point is 00:34:01 Yep. So this is one that I have never had that many experiences in online gaming where, I just had utter terror and fear as well as I was laughing to where I was almost going to piss my pants. Like that was like the experience of zombies because like you, you knew what was going to happen. You knew how it was going to play out and you knew all the zones and the doors and what you had to protect and all of the things that were there. But it's still, it scared the crap out of you. It made for a ton of laughs. and it was just one of the
Starting point is 00:34:39 the best experiences in gaming that's why it's still here today you know it's you know 20 years of zombies and people still play it like it's there's a reason that it's it's what it is as long as you don't shoot the crawler Josh yeah I was waiting for Ryan
Starting point is 00:34:55 to bring that up somebody was going to bring it up I was just about to say I was late to the zombies game but I have played zombies I didn't know what the heck I was doing I kept killing the crawler it was coming at me what can I say. But I can, wait.
Starting point is 00:35:10 Even in my, even in my limited playtime with zombies, dude, I get it 100% dude. This is one where like, I think, you know, the three of us didn't really agree on something,
Starting point is 00:35:21 but when we kind of sat down and we said, guys, we have to have zombies on this list. The three of us went, yeah, this absolutely, like, it needs to be on there.
Starting point is 00:35:28 Yeah, zombies isn't something like I don't have hundreds. So, I don't have hundreds of hours in zombies, but man, what I have played was glorious. And it's like, I am in this, you know, 100%.
Starting point is 00:35:40 I sucked at it at first because I kept doing things I shouldn't have been doing. But like, dude, the heyday, you know, and everybody, everybody is like Black Ops 3, best Zonauts Mark ever. I, like, man, I wish I could have been in it during that, like that heyday of it. Dude, the old G map was like timed perfectly with Captain America release. So then we would dive down the stairs and say, Captain America, and we'd like dive on grenades. like Captain America and stuff. Like, yeah, it was just, it was, everything about it was just so perfect.
Starting point is 00:36:12 And, and it was, it was such a good, it was that time, it was like that time piece, man, that was just so amazing. And they haven't managed to capture it again. No, that's the thing, man. How? What, you know? So me and you don't even get a chance, Josh. We were talking about Halo. People are, people are too, they just get, like, if it, if, I don't know, man.
Starting point is 00:36:34 I don't know. it's weird. Like how do you, how do you capture the public's interest in something like this when they've experienced it before and like you have new, new consumers, like you can do that and they'll love it.
Starting point is 00:36:47 They're guaranteed to love it. But it's like, how do you get everybody to love it? Yeah, how do you get everyone's attention again? Man, it's going to be. And then they lose their way. When we were talking about Halo 3, it's like,
Starting point is 00:36:57 Halo 3 is like the pinnacle of the series. But then you had Halo 4 and then Halo 5 and then Halo Infinite. And it's like, and then people, So, yeah. And I mean, arguably most people will say, well,
Starting point is 00:37:07 the series started going downhill. And like with zombies, it's like, you know, it's still fun, but it's not what it was. No.
Starting point is 00:37:14 And so you got to wonder, where they try to sell it to you is a separate mode for money. Yeah. Gosh, yeah, get out of here with that nonsense. So,
Starting point is 00:37:21 all right, Ryan, what is your golden buzzer? And then we will recap this real quick and then we'll get out of here. All right. So this golden buzzer, this is going to be one of the best
Starting point is 00:37:33 multiplayer games of all time. One that that created not only a world of gameplay, but, but a community. And this one's going to be arc raiders. I have never, I don't hate this pick, to be honest. And I get it. And I know a lot of people are going to be like, well, you know, they this, that that, you know, it's only got so many and recent. I get it. But also, I have never seen a game. And, you know, people, hate on extraction shooters and you know whatever but i've never seen a game to where a community a genuine like people have have gone together this much in in this world where it's like you know you you are a team or you're a world in this part but selimontas like it's all you know it's all free for all
Starting point is 00:38:26 it's no hands barred you know it's it's something different that there was so many layers and levels to what, what Arc Raiders was. It's, it's something I've never experienced before. It, it is amazing. I've spent hundreds and hundreds of hours on it.
Starting point is 00:38:45 I, I, I've gone over and over and over again playing this game. I've done a million billion runs. I've played a million billion with Josh. We've ratted, allegedly. We have not ratted.
Starting point is 00:38:57 It's no person. They just gave himself up for free. No one even asked. It was, it was, there was nothing like it. And I think that is the case for a lot of people. I think that is something that a lot of people have an experience.
Starting point is 00:39:10 It exposed a lot of people to this world and to gaming in general. I like how you fold it under no pressure to give up the fact that you might have read it. Oh, whoa, whoa, whoa, oh, allegedly. I said allegedly. I didn't say that we did. People have said that we have, but I don't, you know. I put Arc Raiders in the same kind of category as I do Hell Divers too, where I just straight up took over the gaming world.
Starting point is 00:39:38 Like, you know, like everybody in their mom was playing freaking Ark Raiders, dude. Like, and it was glorious. Like, you know, I've said I'm kind of done with Arc Raiders until they get some, some serious content updates and stuff like that. But like, I'd go back. I, you know, I'd go back in a heartbeat. And I've been playing the heck out of marathon, you know, for a long time after Arc Raiders. But Arc Raiders, there was something special about it.
Starting point is 00:40:03 It took the world. It really put extraction shooters into the limelight. I mean, I'm talking mainstream. You know, and all you escape from Tarkov people, like, we love you, but like, let's be honest, Escape from Tarkov wasn't really mainstream. It's very niche. We're talking about like global population kind of thing. But Arc Raiders did.
Starting point is 00:40:20 And so now we're going to see those ripple effects with, you know, people trying to copy it and emulate it and refine it and stuff like that as well. I'm with you Ryan I don't love Arc Raiders as much as you do but I can absolutely go dude there was something incredibly special about this game
Starting point is 00:40:39 it's still very active now there's going to be the people it's losing its player but it's like bro it's a video game all video games lose players like that doesn't mean anything you know what I mean like it's Sunday morning
Starting point is 00:40:50 it's Sunday morning there was 95,000 people this morning it's still insanely active yeah and it's fun and I wish it's fun and I would We'll go back when they get some updates to it. You know, this is one where I said, I don't, I don't hate this being on the list. Maybe there's a touch of recency bias here, but if there is, that's okay.
Starting point is 00:41:09 But it's a phenomenal freaking game. Wasn't it one of the best, like, selling? But it really was. Yeah, in all time. And then, like, within the, the, there was a bunch of other, it set all kinds of records. So you can't. It also ran really well. Like, we didn't have the same problems with Arc Raiders we had with, like, hell divers when it released either.
Starting point is 00:41:28 So. Yeah, fair. Nobody expected Arc Raiders to be this good, except for us. And I'm not trying to toot our own horn, but we were covering Arc Raiders well before this game was ever close to it. You were in the playtest, and I remember I walked out back because it was nice outside. It's rare in Phoenix. It wasn't a 4,000 degrees. And I watched Josh run around and I'm like, oh, this looks kind of cool.
Starting point is 00:41:50 And then I didn't think anything of it. And then when the game came out, I'm like, oh, this is really cool. This is a cool game. with how good it really was. So all right, well, there you go. Let me read through this list one more time, guys. So our top 10 best multiplayer games of all time, Halo 3, World of Warcraft, Overwatch, Portal 2, Helldivers 2, Remnant 2, Black Ops, Zombies.
Starting point is 00:42:18 We're going to say Black Ops 3 zombies, My Golden Buzzer, Rocket League, Aces, Golden Buzzers, Super Smash Bros, Ultimate, and Ryan's Golden Buzzer, Ark, Raiders. guys we have just a minute let's throw out some honorable mentions a couple for me that I think we're very close to making the list Risk of Rain 2 Golden Eye
Starting point is 00:42:37 a little bit of nostalgia there for me Golden I took over the world Warzone Ryan you had mentioned war zone Counter strike you know yes it's up there I played a lot of counter strike and then another one that I think is just
Starting point is 00:42:51 incredible is split fiction Ace why don't you take the next few as far as these honorable mentions I had Absalom on my list for an honorable mention. I think it's a fantastic, phenomenal club game. Abyssus was on there just as my own personal favorite. It's a really enjoyable boomer shooter sort of rogue-like FBS that I think's great and still hasn't gotten enough attention, so I'm going to keep bringing it up.
Starting point is 00:43:15 Yeah, Abyst is a ton of fun. Yeah, it's so good. I would love to go back. They've added so much for free. I need to go back and check out. I like gold. They go, gold. Marvel Rivals was on there, obviously, but I had Overwatch, so I didn't put it there.
Starting point is 00:43:30 Lethal Company. Lethal Company is great co-op game. It's so good. I hope it comes to consoles for all the console people. And then finally, I had Deep Rock Galactic because Rock and Stone. It's hard to say it's a top 10 game. It's not a top 10, but it's great. Deep Rock is a game that everybody should play, dude, especially with friends.
Starting point is 00:43:52 Absolutely. So good. So good. All right. Well, listen, we know that we missed some games that you think should be in the top 10. And you know what? We are ready.
