Hello, fellow gamers, and welcome to the Video Gamers podcast. What makes a video game an all-timer? What qualifies one to be in your top 10 games of all time? Is it peak gameplay, fantastic characters, or an unforgettable story? What if it's all three? On today's episode, we're breaking down the games that make up the bottom half of our top 10 games of all time. We'll be basking in gaming glory in just a minute. But first, some introductions are in order.

I am your host, Josh. And joining me, well, he's not on this list. Because he's definitely in my top five as a host. It's Ryan. Yeah, that's the old bait and switch there. You got me for a second, but I appreciate it. I appreciate it. And join.

joining us. I honestly didn't know what his list was until I looked on our website because his tastes are just that weird. It's Ace. They're not that weird. These are some mainstream games on it. There's a freaking Nintendo game on it. If you look at Ryan and I's top 10 list, it's like, okay, they have a lot of the same games that might be in slightly different order. And then there's Ace that has like five games that like I've never played. I've rarely heard of. Like, you know, it's just a different list, Ace. And that's, you know what, we like it. We like that you're weird. It makes

things better, you know. It's like we're all different, you know. Yeah. Different. You know, every group needs the weird friend. That's how you feel. Every group needs the weird friend, Ace, and that's you. You're the weird friend. It's totally fun. It's totally fun. It's not the worst. Oh, it is not the best Zelda. Not the best Zelda, which one of us has on our list. Don't even.

Okay. Well, we're going to get there, Ace. Yeah, we are. Relatively soon. Oh, man. So, listen, people might be like, wait, why are you doing like 10 through 6? Like, why are you doing the bottom half? Because we have learned that we like to talk too much. Two part episode, baby. And if we were to try to do the entire top 10 list for each of us, this episode would be way too long. So instead, we're going to chop it into two parts. And we figured we'll cover the, bottom half of this top 10 list.

Now, I know that there's going to be listeners where it's like, yeah, I know your top 10. I've been to your website. You guys talk about these games all the time, you know, but we're going to explain this isn't so much like the gameplay or like a deep dive into these games. So much is like what makes these games special to us, why they're at, where they're at, like on our top 10 list, why Ace has not the best Zelda on his list. I do kind of thing. You are, you know.

No, no, no. And so here's the other thing. If you've never played any of these games and they're modern because I do, listen, I do have an old game on my list because, you know, at the time it was the greatest game ever made. It's because he's old. Yeah, that's very true. That's very true, Ace. I can't even argue that anymore. But yeah.

So, you know, this is kind of a call out, too, to say, hey, if you haven't experienced some of these games, you should absolutely prioritize some of these. as well. And again, these are not a consensus. We are not saying as the video gamers podcast that these are the 10 best games ever made. These are our personal, our personal top tens, which, you know, in all fairness, do sometimes change up a little bit. Like, you know, a little game came out last year that made it into my top 10. Mine too. That was a current game, you know, and it was like, okay. And so they do change. Sometimes you go, you know, I really feel like I need to move this game into my top 10, which means the game's getting moved out and things like that as well. So nothing's written in stone. This is just where we're at right now. So Ace, as the one with the

weirdest list. Oh, cool. Why don't you start? Great. The one with the weirdest list. Why don't you start us off, Ace? What's your, what's number 10 on your list? Number 10 for me is a game called Assassin's Creed Rogue, which is. What? Rogue. What the heck is this? And this is in your top 10, Ace. Yes, it is. I absolutely. Not Assassin's Creed one. Not Assassin's Creed 2. Not Assassin's Creed black flag that we just did the re-synced on recently. But an Assassin's Creed that I've never heard of. Yep, it's Assassin's Creed Rogue, maybe.

This is the one we get to play as a Templar and hunt down the Assassin Brotherhood, which is just such a cool freaking idea. I wish they would revisit someday. Heretic. Heretic! Yeah. What the, what the turncoat? Trader!

Traitor! There's good reason, but it's massive spoilers. all right. Well, okay, being that I've never even heard of Assassin's Creek Rogue, you're probably okay to spoil this because I think there's probably like three people out there that know about this game. Well, you play as a character named

Shea Patrick Cormack, who's part of the American Colonies Brotherhood. He's sent to retrieve an artifact that accidentally causes an earthquake and I think it's Haiti. Yeah. And it is a massive earthquake. It kills a ton of people. And then he blamed the brotherhood for it because they obviously sent him knowing what this would do. And he turns on them because they shoot him in the back when he tries to steal the manuscript that

leads to the other ones. The white man messing with Haiti. I'll tell you what. Yeah. But it's not just like, I don't think it's the best Assassin's Creed. Let's let's start with that. No, that's fine. I think two. I think two is the best Assassin's Creed.

I agree. So you have two higher up your list, right? To me. So is two like number seven on your list or anything? No, it's not how it works. Mentally for me, that's not how it works. Just because I think it's a better game. It doesn't mean it doesn't...

I write things emotionally how they impact on it. This is the one he likes. This is the one he likes. Okay, let them like it. All right. I like Roeg's just trying to range mate Ace, man. Yeah, well, yeah, it's working a little bit. We have a lot of games to get through. That's only one. Come on.

Yeah. Go on. That's a short game. It's only 12 hours. You can knock it out. I replay it every year. I literally sit down and play it on my switch every year. I play Rogue. It's 12 hours.

I'm done with it. Or if I want to complete it, it's 30 hours. It's got all the naval combat from Black Flag. It's got some of the tree parkour from Assassin's Creed 3. It's got a bunch of new weapons and stuff. It's like, it's just a great time. I love Rogue. Where did this release in the, like the, like the order?

This came out after Black Flag or before? After Black Flag during Unity, which was the France one. It was, Unity was released for the next-gen consoles. So Rogue was released for the past. hash gen so that they had something to buy on the release day of unity. Okay. We want to give something to buy too. He went on 2014.

Exactly, yeah. I played it on the Xbox B60 and then I bought it when it came to the Nintendo Switch and then I bought it again when it came to PC. Trolling aside, I did look up some numbers for this game. It sold 4.6 million copies. Jeez. So people definitely were excited for this game. Review score low to mid-70s.

is one of the lowest because people were disappointed in the story, but I like it. I like the story. I like how it connects to the games three and unity and rogue. It's like a trilogy where if you follow it. They don't understand the art ace. No, they don't. You understand. You have a complicated palette and you understand what's there.

I know what I like, right? All right. So number 10 for Ace, Assassin's Creed, Rogue. It was Lisbon. The earthquake was Lisbon. the first one was Haiti. The other one is Lisbon, which actually follows historical accuracy

that was an earthquake that basically sunk Lisbon. There's so much historical accuracy in the Assassin's Creed games. We never actually talked about this, but there is a podcast that goes into the real life history of the Assassin's Creed games

and breaks down the actual historical accuracy of these events and how Assassin's Creed actually like weaves into those. And it can, It's deep, dude. Yeah, they're way smart.

We don't talk about them because we don't like feeling dumb all the time, but that does exist and it is out there. Yeah, this game took place during the, what is it, French War or whatever, right before the Revolution maybe? No, no, no. I hate history. I hate history. I hate history. I love Assassin's Creve of history. He really gets me sometimes.

All right, Ryan, what's your number 10 game of all time? All right, guys. Are you ready? I am. So, my number 10. game of all time on the website as of now is castelvania symphony of the night a little dated isn't it ryan a little bit and and here's the deal and here's the deal um guys i think there may be a change oh and i'm going to do this right now why on the spot oh wait we're getting a live on the spot

on the spot adjustment right now we are changing number 10 Fortnite. From Castlevania Symphony of the Night, which is one of the most amazing Metroidvania's founder, a beautiful, awesome game that I spent hundreds of hours playing as a child and even as an adult. But I cannot do justice if I don't put this stupid game that I can't believe I'm doing this right now. I'm going to put number 10, Overwatch.

What? Yeah. Overwatch is in my top 10 right now. I can't, I can't help it. I'm so, I am so, I am so,

I can't. Why don't, what am I doing? Oh my God. I have a hard time putting a live service game in my top 10. We know what you. Why? You just did,

you just like, hold on, you just put the worst assessment creed on your top. Syndicate. Syndicate is the worst one. I was, I may have been range-baiting Ace, but now it's all true. It's all true because Ace's top-10 list is weird.

Ace plays more rivals in Overwatch than any other game, and he can't admit that it belongs in his top 10. Right. Maybe it does. I don't know. I have a hard time accepting that because emotions change and how you feel about those games. And I get that because it's hard because. And someday they'll die and you won't have them anymore.

There's a, yeah. They're still going super strong 10 years later. Absolutely. But I'm going to love it while it's here. I never in my life thought that I would love this game. and I would appreciate it and Josh is like so happy. So that's why I waited to do this.

It's got to be up there in my top 10 because I play it every other day or if not every day with Josh and his daughters and then like Ace and like we all, you know, everybody in our other Discord like we play a lot of Overwatch so it's got to be there. It's got to be there and I find myself

watching videos. and looking at stuff and like trying to trying to figure out better ways to do things. So yeah, man, Overwatch. I, uh, it's gonna have to be replaced. I know, I know, I knew you would. I kind of can't play that. You know why?

That's the good. Because we pushed you. You did not. I did not want to. I did not want to. Like, we legitimately like almost forcing and I was grumpy. I was grumpy to play it. I was grumpy to play it.

But once, once you learn, once I started to learn the levels and then, uh, uh, learn the characters and stuff like that. that and like I'm a I'm a pretty good tank I will say that and nobody wants to be a tank and so you have to the next step for you is to is to suck for a little while while you learn a second tank no that's and it's going to be hard one trick pony baby you cannot be a one trick you cannot be a one trick at this point I sentenced you to five months of road hog no live update I love this live update so we're going to do a 10th is sorry Castlevania I love you so much Man, you would unseat Castlevania

Unseated, dude. I felt, I always, I always felt so good because I had like an old school Metroidvania. So I was like, I'm an OG gamer. But man, I, I have to put Overwatch in there. I love it. I love it. I love it so much.

All right. Number 10 for me, a game that needs no introduction. I am actually very excited for the remake that is coming out later this year. It is the best, Zelda, Okerina of Time. For Ocarina, depending on how you want to say it. Overrated. You know, I'm curious to see if this game holds up.

Like, that's the million dollar quay. I'm not buying any of rage, may days. I'm very curious because let's be honest, you're the only person in the world that thinks that you were Zelda. I'm not going to spoil it. Yeah, don't you dare spoil my. Ocarine of Time. I know. I almost did it too.

And then I was like, oh, I can't say that yet. Ocarine of Time, hands down, best Zelda game ever made. The music at the, now here's the thing. At the time, this was one of the greatest games that the world has ever seen. It was a long time ago, people, a long time ago. And I have heard people say that they tried to go back to Okerino of Time and they're like, oh, man, this game feels real dated now. And so I'm very curious to see when the remake comes out later this year if it is updated at all

with like quality of life stuff or if it's going to actually feel like a game that is old at this point. But if you played it, you know, if you didn't play it, you'll get a chance later this year with the remake. There's not much more I need to say about. The thing is, though, other than... I mean, most people probably played it when it came to DS, when they remastered it and put it on the DS.

Who wants to play it on the DSS, man? I played it on the 3DS because I'm not old. Oh, I want to play it on this teeny little screen with this big open world 3D adventure, you know, like... At least it didn't look like it came off of N64. It looks like a modern game. I will say that, I think that I think that

nostalgia absolutely has a part to play in this. But I am so interested to see if the remake comes out and you know is what we think it will be or is what we remember. Like it's gonna, man, because you know how everybody comes in

and they remake these games and stuff. So yeah, I'm, yeah, I'm excited. I'm very curious for this, and I will be picking this up. I can still hear all the stupid melodies in my head. That's how you know a game has like some kind of magic to it is I can hear all the music, dude. I find myself whistling. I whistled it at work the other day and then like three other people started whistling the tune. And they were like, Ocourine of Time.

And I'm like, yeah. It's like, dude, it's just iconic, man, iconic. Do do do do. Wait, how can we can sync up for that, but we can't sync up for a C. Because it's just doot, doot, doots. That's why. Yeah, that's fair. That's fair.

All right. All right, Ryan, back to, oh, no, Ace. Oh, yeah. Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, well, pal. Well, no, we don't want his next one. We don't want this next year. What weird is Ace going to pull out now? It's not even weird.

You're just in denial that Majora's Mask is the better Zelda game. All right. Oh, brother. It's got the three-day system where you have to save the world of Termina from a falling moon. You use the songs to stop time to steal freaking faces off of people so you can transform into the different races among the Zelda world. You can become a Zora. You can become a Goron. You become a decou scrub.

It's the coolest thing. It was pretty cool. It's pretty cool. It is really cool. It's just not as cool. It's dark. And if you collected all the masks, you unlocked the fierce dine. mask, which means you got to be a dull link with like a giant helix sword.

It was cool as heck. I hate the way that Majora's mask looks. There's something about the actual design of the mask itself that really weirds me out. It's meant to creep you out and unsettle you because it's a demon. It's a demon inside a mask. It works. It works. It works.

I mean, the moon scared people for ages. That's fair. I was going to say, I hate the moon. The moon freaks me out. Yeah. I mean, it's funny. This is a testament, to be honest, about how good the Zelda games have been. You know, like, I'm not the biggest fan of Tears of the Kingdom.

I know that's weird. I just, I prefer Breath of the Wild. But, like, dude, there's one thing Nintendo can do. It is make a Zelda game, man. Like, you got to give them, you know, we trash on them a lot, but we got to give them kudos. Like, they made absolutely incredible games. I mean, the fact the Occurine of Time and Majors Mask is in two of our top 10 lists of all time. Yeah, that says something.

So yeah, it really does. So yeah. All right. Ryan, what's number nine for you? So number nine is a game. I think we just talked about it in our pre-show. We did a little bit. We did a little bit.

This is a game that absolute all-timer, very, very in-depth, long. You got to put some hours into this thing. But man, is it worth it? It is one of those where when you put the effort in, you will be you will be given back tenfold and that's Witcher 3

So that's It's an unbelievable game I didn't mind the combat As much as you guys did But like the combat I know you didn't like the combat But the stories and the quest were really good The stories and the quests are just

When you really get into it And you really get deep into that stuff We know we always say And we did it in the pre-show stuff The Bloody Baron Like once you get past that And the game really takes off off. There's just so much there, man. It's, it's an all-timer. It's an absolute game. If you even

even have the hint of, of loving, like, action RPGs or, or that world, just give it a try. Give it a try. Give it some time. And, and, uh, you may end up finding something that's, like, all-time for you. I think it's crazy that you have this game so far down your list. I figured as much. That's all I'm going to say is like having that at nine is baffling to me. I'll talk about my thoughts. Hey, where's it on your list, Ace? Yeah, where's Witcher 3 on your list, Ace?

I don't like the combat. Why would I have the Witcher 3 on my list if I didn't like the combat? Oh my gosh. Why would I do that to myself? See how good I could get that off of me? Yeah, I just have to shove that on to me. I'm already going to get a lot of flack for my list, Ryan's. Oh, you're going to get a lot of flack, especially your number.

I looked at what your number two game was, and I was like, what the crap is this? Okay. I'll fight balls and death over my number two game. That's for another episode, though. Yeah, well, that's another time. Yeah, because I was like, I think Ace messed up his list, guys. All right, Josh, what do you have? You're next, right?

Number nine for me is Overwatch. We won't, we won't cover this again. People know how I feel about this game. I've been playing this game since release in 2016. Literally, I took about eight months off because I raged out a little bit too hard for a little while. That was also when Overwatch was really going downhill. This was when Blizzard started to abuse the game and sort of to take advantage of the gamers and all that stuff. So there were other issues that led me to take a break for a little while.

Dude, I mean, at this point, I may have more hours in Overwatch than any other game ever. With the exception of my number eight game. And maybe. I'd have to check. I feel like it's getting close. We'll see. I'll check. I'll check and see.

But yeah, we won't beat Overwatch to death because if you're not a fan, you're not a fan. You don't want to hear a gush about it. But it's still going strong 10 years later. And I think it's one of my most played games ever. Nice. All right, listen, we're going to take a quick break. And then we will come back with more of some of the best games ever made. All right. We are back. Ace. Oh, my gosh. I love this game so much, genuinely. At my number eight spot, I have watchdogs. Yeah. Dude, I freaking love watchdogs.

I told you literally today. You did that it's underrated. It's underrated. This is such an underrated game. It's so good. The very concept of being this, you know, hacker who's able to access the entire world. And the whole world is your weapon.

Everything around you can be used to help you or you can hack it to the cameras to see around different angles and short circuit someone's phone. And you unlock more hacks the longer you play the game. It's just so freaking good. And Aidan Pierce is a cool character. Yeah.

He is just a cool dude. I've never played a lick of this game. I know. I know that's crazy. I know that's crazy. Wait, did you? Yeah, I did. I have watchdogs?

Wait a minute. I have steam pulled up right now. I do have watch dogs. It's actually... No, Ace, I'm not going to lie. I had no idea I even... this game. I gifted it to you.

Thank you for the gift. Years ago, I gifted to you and said, hey, whenever you get some downtime, you should probably, you should check this game out. Oh, you know, that never happened.

And I knew it would never happen. Please, please. I knew it would never happen. You missed out because like, uh, uh, it's such, it's like GTA,

but like with like hacking, with a phone. And you can, you know, guys are driving down the roadway. You can open up like, uh, uh,

the rods in the street to like, like stop the blockades and and they just slow mo cams yeah they just hit end oh there's there's so much there so that's a good one ace and that was also wasn't it like one of the first games on the ps4 yeah i feel like it was one of the like new first like i think it was a lot of the risk that's why i played it because i got a ps4 on launch day it got a lot of flat because it looked nothing like the trailers but other than that yeah but it was like one of the only ones and i'm like oh this is actually a really sweet game this is awesome so you know that's a good It's a little, you know, accurate to our current times of being constantly watched by cameras.

Yeah, oh, yeah. 24-7. Flat cameras are there in the game. Yeah, they are. The flock cameras? Yeah, there's a company called Bloom. You can hack in all of them. Like 24-7 watching everyone.

So, Ace, you do like exciting open world city type games. Yeah, when I can use the entire world to my advantage. I'm just, yeah, okay, I'm just curious. That was just a foreshadowing. That's all. I don't like your foreshadowing He's just gonna kill me He's like before this episode's over

He's just trying to chop my head off Before I even get to the number six This I know I Number six will save me What's yeah What's number eight for you

Number eight for me is People know I love action Adventure I love stories I love comedic relief And emotion and what does it better than Uncharted for? Not much.

The ultimate, ultimate Nathan. I know this game now. I know you know this game now. I know this game now. Which is actually exciting to me that you, you understand it and you've played it and you've experienced it. You've got a connection now.

Yeah. You know it. It is awesome. I'm going to tell you something, Ryan. Go ahead. I think you're either brilliant or I think you're crazy, one of the two. Hmm. Done it for me.

Since we haven't recorded our episode yet. That's fair. A little foreshadowing. Little foreshadowing. So. But yeah, Uncharted 4. I love it. It's absolutely amazing.

That's all you need to know. All right. Fair enough. Number eight for me. Speaking of games, I'm not going to go. I'm not going to spend a long time on this game because everybody that's been listening for a long time has heard me talk about this game too.

But EverQuest, another nostalgic game for me. Why is it in my top 10 list of all time? Because he's old. Because he's old. It's too good to put wow there instead. That's true. I didn't play well. Like, dude,

and I'll tell you this. I, okay, I will say this. I played wow after vanilla when it became a kid game. Like, and I'm sorry for all the wow lovers out there. It became a kid game for sure.

But I can confirm. All the heats off. Wow to me. Wow to me. Wow to me. That's facts, dude. And I understand, and I'm saying this because Paul, like, Paul, like Ryan, Andy, like a lot of very, very good friends of mine were super into the wow days with Vanilla Wow and Wow on release and all these things. And it is a shell of what it used to be.

And I don't know what it used to be, but I hear it from all my friends. And then I played Wow. I've probably got 40 hours, 50 hours in World of Warcraft at this point. Like I've done raids. I've done all that stuff. and it was all so dumbed down and easy and no punishments. There was no risk. I mean, it was just, it was dumb.

And I was like, this game's like made for kids at this point. EverQuest was made for psychotic people, dude. Like legitimately psychotic people. I was trying to explain to my kid the other day about like, I can't even tell you how many hundreds of hours I have just selling things in Freeport. Yeah. Yeah. Corpse runs. Like all this stuff.

It was brutal. Not a single person in the world would love EverQuest like today because they just, you don't make games like this anymore. People don't want that hassle. They don't want that difficulty and the inconvenience and the not quality of life stuff. But it's things that we went through. And at the time, they created memories. And EverQuest at its heyday was insane. The world had never seen a game like it before.

I have more hours in EverQuest than I think any other game possible. I play this game was a problem. I played this game for probably like legitimately and I'm not exaggerating, probably eight to 10 hours a day for like years, dude. Like year. I was soups, soups into EverQuest. And it was not good.

I can admit it. But I was more cracked on this game than I think I've ever been on anything in my life. And I have great memories and I don't want to go back to it. Every time we bring up EverQuest, people tell me, hey, you know, there's Project 99 and there's the new EverQuest, whatever thing it is. And it's like, I'm not, I'm good, I'm good. No, good with what I got. I broke my memories.

I'm free. Yeah, exactly. Yeah. So, but, you know, EverQuest back then was unbelievable. It's, people don't, people don't understand what an old MMO was back then. Like, it was, that was your life. Cutting edge, dude. And it was cutting edge, too, which is crazy.

You know, we would to get to like, I mean, in wow, because I didn't play a lot of EverQuest. I've seen it and I played it. and I played it a little bit with friends, but, like, for a while, dude, it was like, I mean, tens, 20, 30s of hours to just get to level like 20, 15, you know, like you were, you were putting in the time. And then if anything happened, you had to, you know, it was, corpse runs, like you said. And so it was, you'd lose levels. Yeah. If you died, you would lose XP and D level, dude.

Oh, my gosh. Like, yeah, it was, it was insane. They had hell levels. Like, dude, I remember it, like, to get to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, from level 59 to level 60, which was the max level at the time, would take like a month, like a month of grinding to be able to level.

Like there were these occasional hell levels where you would spend weeks to a month trying to farm XP so that you could actually move up to the next level. There was nothing like it. It's a good thing. Like honestly, like I said, it couldn't survive in this day and age,

but back then it was, yeah, it was great. All right, Ace, number seven for you. Number seven should be when we're all pretty, familiar with, especially you, because I picked this game for you guys to deep dive a long, long time ago, and that is a game called Chorrelnight.

I'm just kidding. I never picked that in deep time. I just said I wanted to see you play it. Shovel night. Terraria is the reason I'm stuck here. Yeah, that's true. Terrarian. Ace is like, why did I ever do that, man?

Do love Terraria, though. But Shullanite is one of my absolute favorite platformers of all time. I love the level design. I love the characters. I love the music. And I just love what Shovel Night means to me because it was my introduction to the indie world.

Like this was my first indie game I got to pick up on my Nintendo Switch. This is what started all this nonsense? Absolutely. It was Shovel Night. I picked it up for $20. And then the following month after I picked it up, they dropped the next campaign and it was still $20.

So I just got it for free. Ace is like this. This is why I like these indie games. It's that meme where it's like he gets it and then he's like, I'm dedicating my life to this. Yeah. I'm going to make my entire personality. My entire personality is indie games.

I love Showingite. Everything about Shovel Night is just a joy. And I love that you love it, buddy. You've never even played Shelvin Night. Shovel Night, I will say, who was it? Somebody in our Discord community. Someone was playing it recently. I literally just said they played it and it was such a nostalgic kick for them and they loved it.

They were like, I absolutely needed this. I can't. Was it? It might have been Joe Nasty, actually. It might have been. I can't remember. But somebody was like, I played this because Aces, you know, glazed this game forever.

And they were like, it was such a nostalgia throwback that was perfect. I got to cover something. Just because I say nice things about games, does not mean I'm glazing them. I'm just telling you what the game has in it and how it makes me feel. We don't even have to address it, dude. No, no, no, no, no. That's like the number one comment on my freaking one shot video.

It's just like, all this glaze. Oh, it's like, no, it's a good game. Someone likes something and has passion for something, so they're telling you what's good about it. That's not glaze. That's being honest. Maybe people are saying things for a reason, dude. That's all I know.

Whatever, man. Chevel night is a good game. I will say I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed shovel night. It really is that nostalgic throwback to, it was, it reminded me of like playing games on like the Nintendo, like legitimately, you know? but not like the super aggravating ones either. It was Dingus Khan. He recently picked up for it.

Oh, okay. There you go. But yeah, and he had good things to say about it too. Yeah, he said a lot of good things about it. Yeah. All right, Ryan.

What's number seven for you? Well, a game that's far, far superior to Shovel Night. No, it is. Came out far before Shovel Night. I would say in, I believe,

1998. 99, something like that. It is, it is the one the only, Diablo 2. Another blizzard game. The glaze. I'll glaze. I'm surprised this is actually I will glaze this game

like you wouldn't believe. Won't play path of exile to all we wants to talk about Diablo because it's a better game. There's a reason that it's been around for more than 20 years. There's a reason that they have Diablo 2 resurrected because they brought it back and people are playing it. It's an amazing game.

This is one that this was back in like the dial-up days in like the early 90s when I like I didn't have cable internet I didn't have it like so we had to like dial up on aOL and I would hop on to to that and I'd hop in with my buddy that was across the country and we would play Diablo and we would do bail runs and it was the most amazing thing ever um nothing will take Diablo away from me it is it is one of the best games ever made there's a reason people still play it I still remember the dial-up thing and seeing your buddy actually like spawn in.

And then you were like, we're going to get to play together. Yeah. Like this is great, man. Like, yeah, Diablo 2 is fantastic. So good. Like that,

it truly is an all-timer of a game. Alt-timer. And it's like the, the Blizzard cinematics with it, like we're next level. Like, especially in the late 90s, that was,

we didn't see that with a lot of other games. You know, now we do, but like you didn't see that back then. And Blizzard's always been good with that stuff. But, man, it was something else. and then it was just such an amazing game.

There's a reason people still play it. So, yeah, Diablo, Diablo, too. Yeah. I'm actually kind of surprised it's not higher on your list with as much as you love that game. I've got some other really good games, I'll tell you that much. Yeah, that's fair. We are getting into really good game territory. Number seven for me, Rocket League.

I am a competitive person. I do not like sports games at all, but there was something about Rocket League from the very second I played Rocket League that just absolutely hooked me. and then I never looked back. I just checked it. I have 1929 hours in Rocket League. Oh my gosh.

This game consumed me. That's more than I have a destiny, dude. That's why I had an Overwatch and rivals combined. I played this game so much. I played this game so much with Andy. We played duos all the time. He was my partner. I mean, we,

it was almost like every single night. It was just Rocket League. Everything was about Rocket League. I mean, you know, this was in the heyday. The game is still doing incredible. well, but for a while there, Rocket League took over the world. One of my greatest gaming accomplishments is making it to champion in Rocket League. I remember, like, really trying to do that.

To me, it's, like, legitimately the definition of, like, a perfect game. Short rounds, high skill ceiling, competitive, last second comebacks. It's all about player skill and teamwork and that kind of thing. And if you have a buddy or buddies that you can rely on and you know how to play, it legitimately starts to feel like you're playing sports to. together and those wins and things like that are just absolutely they just they hit the dopamine center of my brain something fierce feels different something fierce yeah so um i i can't check my overwatch play time because i'd actually have to load up the game to be able to check it um but i'm

pretty sure the last i checked and that was a few weeks ago is that like 1800 hours in overwatch so it's got to be they've got to be neck and neck uh at this point but those are my two most played modern games i should say Very nice. All right. And then that brings us to the last of the bunch. Number six, Ace. No, number six, I think this one shouldn't shock anyone because it is one of the best JRP's ever.

And that is persona five royal. Absolute banger game. I love the spirit of rebellion within it. I love the system of building confidants to give you passive buffs. I love the whole Phantom Thieves vibe and aesthetic. Like, all of it just is so good. And it's like hundreds of hours. If we want to make it.

You can get lost in persona. And it's got a great story. It's a fantastic story. I know you couldn't get into it, but it's so good. What's funny is because I did play persona five as a surprise because Paul got forced to play it. And I wanted to experience the game. Yeah. Yeah, that was a cool calling card.

I was going to mention it. But like, yeah, for people who don't know, Ace hijacked Paul, ace sent him this cool, like persona like style card. to let him know what game he had to play and he put a lot of work into it and it was really, really cool. But apparently the game is like also equally as cool. I don't know.

Let's pull up its metadata score here. I put in, I think, like 12 to 14 hours into persona 5. I can appreciate, I like honestly I can appreciate a ton of it. I just wasn't a huge fan of the combat in it. That's fair. You know, because it did seem a little bit routine

and it seemed like they were trying to do a little bit too much with a lot of the different systems and stuff like that. But I get it. Like this is one where it's like, I absolutely understand why this is in people's like top 10 lists. Yeah, it's a 95 on Metacrit critic. It's one of their most plays. That's insane.

It's one of the most plays. That's crazy. That's really good. Percent of five is amazing. It's one of the thing is if it's your style, you're going to love this game. Oh, yeah. And if it's not your style, you still may like this game.

Like it's one of those, you know, words. It's got some deep themes to it. All the persona games really do covers some deep stuff. Yeah. Yeah. So, all right, Ryan, what's number six for you? Are you ready? This is the game that almost made it into people's top fives, but then they went,

nah, not quite. It's, I, I, it's close to, it's, man. Now you're making me question. Oh, you make an adjustment again, Ryan? You make it out live on, live adjustment. No. Two, John. No, no, just one list?

No, just one. I'm going to go with the one the only last of us. I cannot help myself, but love post-apocalyptic worlds. And this one does it better than most, far and away. I love the world that you get to explore, the story with Joel and Ellie, all the emotional ties with everything. It's just there's, you feel the game when you play it. And that's why it's in the top five.

Like it's, you're emotionally connected. And I always will be. If anyone brings it up and anyone talks about it, I have an emotional connection to this game. Um, and that's, that's why it's up here. And that's why it's rated so high.

So one thing, Ryan loves naughty dog because he's got two naughty dog games in his top 10. Um, where do you? How, been made an ass because I was looking at y'all's list and you know you have uncharted four and you have last of us where does last of us two fit for you that's a good question um I would say it's I mean it's not far out of the top 10 like it's it's a very very good game um it follows suit with last of us and there may be a little more emotional weight in the game but I did not enjoy the switching back

and forth between, you know, Ellie and, um, Abby, like between, you know, going back and forth. I, I thought it was good and I thought the story was good and I thought it, it, uh, made for a good game, but I just didn't enjoy it as much as the first one. It felt like a, like a little bit. That's, yeah, it's just not, it's, I mean, it's amazing, but it's like one A one B. Like, it's, it's, it's almost like the God of War 2018 versus Ragnar.

Yeah, it's like, for sure, it has a little bit more of the magic. One game has a little bit better gameplay to it. And then it's like which one resonates with you. Which I think, I think, I think, um, the,

the next last of us had a little bit better. Like it was crisp. They, it was clean. They like, uh, refined some of the gameplay and the movement in the combat. But overall,

like everything on the first one, that's what really resonated with me. And, and man, just the emotional weight of that game in like what it makes you feel. And, And I like to, when I play a game, I like to envision myself in that world. I like to picture myself there.

That's why I like these action RPGs. And, oh, man, could I, could I picture myself, like, in the desperate straits that they are in? And, uh, it did it so well. So that's why that one's up. Yeah. That's fair. I get it. I get it.

I'm thankful I've played both of them now. Yeah. Like legitimately. Like, it's, like, it's good. So, all right. Well, speaking of games with amazing stories. Stories. Excuse me.

Sorry. Ryan's such an idiot. Ryan, I'll be honest with you. I know you hate turn-based combat, but the fact that you missed out one of the best games ever made, like legitimately. I watched all the videos.

I know what happened. Ryan, why isn't your number six game also a turn-based combat game? Yeah. Expedition 33 for me. I kind of referenced this early on. very excited for this game when it came out. And then it was, it's that magic that every gamer chases.

You know what I mean? It is that I can't put this game down. I'm thinking about this game while I'm at work. I'm rushing home to play it. I'm staying up way too late to get to that next thing kind of thing. You know, I mean, this is what gamers crave. These are those I wish I could play it for the first time again type things. And for me, Expedition 33 instantly became an all-timer for me.

And I remember saying this is, this is in my top 10 games of all time. Like legitimately, like this is an easy, easy decision for me. And so I have it at number six. I freaking love this game. It is very, very rare that I ever want to go back and replay a game. I've only ever done that with God of War and God of War Ragnarok as far as like story-based games go. Yeah. And cyberpunk.

I've replayed Cyberpunk twice. But man, if you have not played Expedition 33, I can't tell you, we just had, again, just in our, in our, community, our Discord server, which you should all be a part of. We just had somebody that's like, okay, I'm diving in. And then it was like these, I think it was Geroscope, if I remember, right? Sorry if I got that wrong. But they were like, guys, what is this game? Like, what is happening?

And everybody was just like, bro, we're here. And people, like, if you've played it, you love hearing about other people playing in and experiencing it. And that is something magical in a video game thing. So for me, that's my number six. So, dude, it is, I am not, I hate turn-based combat so much that it just makes me not want to play it, but I can still recognize how amazing this game is. Yeah. And how, how rightfully so, people love it.

Like, I totally get it. It's special. I totally, and I love the story. I watched, I watched all the cutscenes and everything, like the full story play out, like a movie. And I'm like, oh, my God. And I'm like at the edge of my seat, you know, so, like, I get it. it and I understand it. I just, the turn-based combat stuff turns me off

so much. But, you know, if you love that and if you don't mind it, this is an all-timer, you have to check it out. Absolutely. Absolutely. Bangor soundtrack, too. Yeah, that's the thing too. Yeah, the soundtrack is like the next level. Yeah, it's so good. I mentioned it in the intro, but when you have a game that puts together characters, gameplay, and story,

and presentation, you know, it becomes like there's very few games that can do that but when you do all of them you become something truly special in the gaming world and I think a lot of our top fives are going to showcase that expedition 33 showcases that and so it's it's funny because it's like there's certain things that make games very very special and all timers and things like that and I think we're going to start to see that trend of like these games do everything really well and that's why they're going to be in the top five with Expedition 33. That is just telling you, you know, in my opinion, the top five games. Hoof, man. All right. Well, there you go, everybody. So I'll let, let's go through

our list real quick one more time. So mine, uh, number 10 is Okerina of time. Number nine is Overwatch. Number eight is EverQuest. Number seven is Rocket League and number six is Expedition 33. Ryan, give the people your list one more time. I got a, I got a used to be Castlevania, uh, of the night, but now it is Overwatch. It is Overwatch. We have a new one there. Then we have Witcher 3. We have Uncharted 4, Diablo 2, and then Last of Us. And for me, number 10 was Assassin's Creek Rogue.

Nine was Majors Mask. Eight was Watch Dogs. Super underrated, play it. Seven, shovel night, and six, Persona 5 Royal. Also has a banger soundtrack. Yes. Oh, yeah, persona games are, they're up there. Honestly, if you like anime, too, the graphics in those games are spectacular.

Yeah, that's what the turnoff is for a lot of people. Yeah, it is. You kind of have to like anime. If you do, it resonates really well. If you don't, I get why people can, I might be like, I don't know. All right. Well, there you go. So next week, we are going to be breaking down our number five through number one of all time for our personal list.

This also is good to give you guys an idea of the types of games that we like. you can see already that we do have different tastes in games, which is one reason we love this is it's, you know, we all have a lot of different variety in the games that we like, the types of games and things like that. I think, you know, you do see a little bit of overlap for us as far as, you know, games that resonate with all of us. But this is one reason we wanted to talk about these is to kind of just give people an idea of who likes what, why we like these games, why they resonate with us.
