Video Gamers Podcast - The Phasmophobia Experience: Running, Hiding & Screaming – Gaming Podcast
Episode Date: October 28, 2025Gaming hosts Josh, Ryan, and Ace are stepping into the dark… armed with flashlights, questionable bravery, and a whole lot of EMF Readers! This week, the crew is diving into the chilling co-op sensa...tion Phasmophobia, the ghost-hunting experience that turned late-night gaming sessions into scream-filled chaos. From bumbling around abandoned asylums to yelling “WHERE ARE YOU?!” at invisible spirits who refuse to pay rent, we are breaking down exactly why this haunting hit continues to dominate the gaming scene. We’ll talk tension, teamwork, and those moments when one friend always seems to “accidentally” close the door behind you as the ghost starts hunting (sorry Ace). Is Phasmophobia truly one of the most innovative video games in the horror genre, or does the spooky glow fade once you’ve memorized every ghost type? Plus, each host gives their personal rating on the fear factor, the fun factor, and whether this video game is best enjoyed with friends… or avoided entirely if you value your heart rate. If you love gaming that keeps you guessing and screaming in equal measure, you won’t want to miss this terrifyingly entertaining episode of the Video Gamers Podcast! Let’s just hope the ghost doesn’t follow you after the episode ends. Now streaming on Paramount Plus is the epic return of Mayor of Kingstown.
Warden? You know who I am.
Starring Academy Award nominee Jeremy Renner.
I swear in these walls.
Emmy Award winner Edie Falco.
You're an ex-con who ran this place for years.
And now, now you can't do that.
And BAFTA award winner Lenny James.
You're about to have a plague of outsiders descend on your town.
Let me tell you this.
It's going to be consequences.
Mayor of Kingstown, new season now streaming on Paramount Plus.
Hello, fellow gamers, and welcome to the video gamers podcast.
There's nothing quite like getting three grown men who are all giant chickens to play one of the scariest games ever made.
But on today's episode, that's exactly what we're covering as we do.
dive into the mind trip that is phasmophobia.
Most of you have heard of it, but not as many people have actually played it as you might think.
So we're here to give our thoughts on it, talk about what works and what doesn't, and if this game is more than just a Halloween time pickup.
But first, some introductions are in order.
I am your host Josh, and joining me, he's the one you see cackling in the dark or screaming for his life.
on stream and he ain't afraid
of no ghost until he sees
one anyway. It's
Ryan. I've never
noped out of so many places
in my life. Nope, nope, nope.
I'm going to get out of here. Nope. Nope.
Run.
And joining us, he's
the trailer princess, the front
door guardian and the guy you'll always
find standing on the front porch
but don't let him die
or you'll get an ear full of expletives.
as he cusses your mother, it's a.
I was going to say, I don't know how I could be on the front porch
when my corpse is in the closet,
as you two are holding the door shut,
and I'm screaming for my life.
Wait, this, this, this,
the, streaming this game and playing it together
is, is an absolute experience.
We are going to get into all things phasmophobia here in this deep dive.
For anybody that didn't get to watch,
watch our Twitch stream. I highly recommend you go watch that because if there is an entertaining
game to watch and watch three men just absolutely poop their pants and be scared to death
of a video game, you will see that in action on our Twitch. Man, that was such a good time,
guys. Now, for those long-term listeners, the OGs of the OGs, yes, we did cover phasmophobic
way and I mean way back in the day I mean I think this was probably one of the first like 10 to
maybe 15 games that we covered when we very first started this podcast season zero but you know
what it's been so long now and this game has gone through so much development since then it was
an early access back then when we played it it is a full release now so we have a ton of stuff
to talk about.
We do have a new review to read.
We're going to get to that in just a second.
But guys, we have a huge shout out to an awesome member of our community who has been a member of the community for a long time as an epic supporter.
But they just upped the game by going legendary.
So a massive thank you to Bobby S for going legendary for supporting.
for supporting this show at the highest level that you can.
Bobby S,
thank you so much, man.
We are so glad to have you as part of the community.
Bobber!
Thank you, thank you, thank you.
Of the show.
Yeah.
That boy, right.
Super active in the Discord, too.
Love Bobby.
Yeah, absolutely.
So, all right.
And then, Ryan, we've got a new review to read.
So why don't you hit us with it, man?
We do.
This one comes in from Uriel Cool.
And it is titled,

All the people that haven't left us a review.
All those people that have just been consuming this amazing
content and they're like, hey, leaving you guys a review.
I don't do that. And I don't leave reviews for people because it's like,
listening to this awesome podcast
and not leaving reviews.
Is that your non-review voice?
That's my non-review voice.
If that's you,
do you don't want that voice?
Leave us a review, people.
If you're on Spotify, it's a five-star.
If you're on Apple, we'll still leave
five stars. Don't keep me wrong. But then type up
something. And there's a good chance we're going to read it
on the show. So, thank
you. You're real cool for
that awesome review as well.
Guys, Halloween time. It's
spooky season. It is. Spooky.
cookie season. It is Halloween. I got to give credit to Ace. We, we, we, we, we love picking on you, buddy, on the show, but you also got to get your credit where credit is due. Ace was like, guys, it's where, what, what? Why did both y'all's cameras turn off? Oh, you guys are doing something. You guys are, okay. All right, for the audio listeners, Ryan and Ace have turned off their cameras. Uh, they are planning something. I do not know what it is. I'm not sure I like.
like this at all. I have no clue
what is going on here.
And oh
my gosh.
Oh my
Hello, fellow
gamers.
And welcome to the
phasmaphobia deep time.
A spooky season.
Hello.
Oh,
guys.
You look so
handsome all of a sudden.
Like you guys are like just
these amazing looking just
men now.
What?
I feel so manly.
If you're not listening, I
all of a sudden lost all the hair in my head
and it went all to my face.
It's all on our faces now.
Oh my goodness.
You two turds
are the... Okay.
Listen, if you're an audio listener,
we have had video for quite.
some time. You should
watch the video on this.
Ryan and
A's have dressed up like the most handsome
men on the planet.
That's the only way I can describe.
That's right. We're goosewain.
Also, Ryan
looks like he's just eating
this Mustang. It won't stop
going in my mouth. I mean,
I believe it or not, I trim this thing
and I've eaten like
so much fake synthetic hair.
Oh, it's all over me, dude.
Yeah, I wish I could tell what Ace looks like, but as we're recording, he's just a blur on the screen right now.
So I'm sure it'll look great once his video uploads the whole way.
Why do you think we told you?
We tried to get you to dress up and you're like, oh, well, you know, you didn't want to really want to do it.
All I said was I wasn't going to do full body paint as Kratos.
I didn't realize we were dressing up as male supermodels, guys.
I feel so old.
I mean, well, well done, boys.
This is pretty good.
I feel so aerodynamic.
When both cameras turned off instantly, I was like, what the heck?
Oh, we had a countdown.
We had it all planned.
Yeah, Ace, I expect.
You know, Ace has been having all kinds of internet issues,
but then Ryan's turned off, and I'm like, what is happening?
So, again, if you haven't watched the video people,
you know, we put a lot of effort into the video side of things here as well,
And we know that some people like watching that.
I'm kind of impressed with the beards, man.
That's not a good shaped beard.
I trimmed this one.
It came like crazy and I trimmed it all down.
It was a bad, man.
It was a bad beard.
More like Josh's beard.
I mean, it's pretty good, man.
It's got the great, man.
Look at that.
I cannot keep it on the entire time.
I'm not going to be able to speak.
This side is like the last resistance, man.
It's like the rebellion against the empire where it just hasn't quite.
We won't give in.
This side is getting there all the way.
So I don't know.
Ace is done already.
Ace is like,
I can't stand having a beard.
I'm doing it.
I'm committed to the role.
You're going to wear it the whole time.
I'm committed to the roll, baby.
Oh,
man.
I can't talk.
I want to feel beautiful.
But you're getting so much hair in your mouth right now.
Yeah, whatever.
I'll eat it.
Yeah.
Anyways, ladies and gentlemen.
Happy Halloween,
everyone.
oh man spooky scary skeletons and shivers down your spot i guess we got you huh
did we get you this time i legit like my brain was trying to figure out what the heck was
going on and then about three right just pulled out the biggest top that you know look ryan
the bits you did it you can i do it take the beer off all right now i'll do this for this
poor man is like he just spit out like a half pound of hair there's so much hair in my mouth
oh man oh okay that is this way guys how do you think i feel i don't know my choice
i don't know that being bald is by choice well that's not my choice
all right the beard i got to have a beard because like i said otherwise i'm going to look like
an idiot so bro without i'll tell you what with with the bald cap like i thankfully i
I have a lot of hair and I should have a lot of hair
to my end of my days. But if I was
bald, dude, my ears are so
stinking big and my nose is so
stinking big, dude, I put that bald cap
on and I was like, oh, God.
I went to my wife, I was like, honey, would you still
date me? She's like, oh.
Ryan's the least aerodynamic
person you've ever met.
Dude, yeah.
There's a reason they called me Dumbo in elementary
school, dude.
Oh, man. These handheld
films save me.
Brother, so much Herman.
Well, well done, guys.
I'm a posth from me and you, A.
See you, buddy.
Yeah.
This was well planned, Ryan.
Well planned.
Also, I'll never forget this, boys.
Ever.
Also.
I'm already plotting.
Shout out to how much Amazon sucks because they didn't deliver my skull cap today.
So I had to go hunt down a spirit Halloween to find one and get it because mine wasn't delivered.
That's a dedication, man.
It was the late two or three days.
And I was like, oh, no, it's not going to.
show up.
Yeah.
So I,
that many people are ordering bald caps?
I guess so, man.
Yeah.
You're the spirit of the season right there.
I'm just going to say, you know, that's,
imitation is the sincerest form of flattery guys.
There you go.
That's what we're doing.
Oh, man.
All right.
Well, what a start to a show, everybody.
Welcome into the video gamers podcast.
This is what we do.
If you are a new listener, get used to it.
because we just like to have fun, man.
You know, we're three, we're three friends.
We talk video games.
We play video games.
And then we share it with the world.
And thank you to everybody out there for letting us share this with you.
We hope you have a good time listening to this podcast.
And if you can't have a good time watching Ryan spit out more and more for trolling me,
then, you know, what else are you going to do, right?
All right, guys.
Phasmophobia, Ace, I was trying to give you credit for this.
I'm going to just not since, you know, you've interrupted my giving you credit.
But we played it.
Ace recommended it.
He said, let's play phasmophobia.
I did not realize that neither one of you guys had played this game before.
Never touched it, man.
Never touched it.
Spooky, man.
That baffles me, man.
Ace, you're like the indie horror guy.
How did you not ever play seismophobia?
I was surprised, too.
didn't want to do it alone.
Okay, that's fair.
That is fair.
After, after playing the game, I, I, uh, I agree with that sentiment, like, for sure.
Yeah.
Don't play this alone.
No, don't play this alone.
Good grief.
Dude, I, oh my goodness, man.
So for anybody that doesn't know how a, I'm going to throw this one to you, how would
you describe phasmophobia to somebody that has never heard of this game before?
It's a ghost hunting simulator.
You take all your ghost hunting equipment.
you go into these
definitely haunted houses.
Yes.
And you start using the equipment to you,
you know,
sort of set off a checklist of what you're looking for,
what went off where.
And it's all about paying attention
to these little things
that could point to what kind of ghost
you're categorizing as.
But that's what it's basically
ghost buster simulator,
but without the busting.
So it is,
that is at its basic core,
you,
I agree with you.
Now there's going to be people that are going to go like,
okay well how do you fight the ghosts
right and like
sure is there any ghost fighting like what do you do
like you can put down a crucifix
that's it that's how you fight the ghost
yeah you ain't fighting the ghosts in this game
so it's a ghost hunting simulator
but you're actually you're like
the weird thing in this game is you are
just trying to discover what
the ghost is right
like these ghosts all have
behaviors they all have traits
you are trying to
acquire like data or evidence we'll call it to help you determine which ghost type is haunting
that house once you do that you get the heck out of there like you are not the ghost destroyer
you were just simply the ghost like identifier and i think this throws off some people because
they're like oh well don't you fight the ghost or kill it or any of that stuff no you don't kill
it you don't you run away don't mess with these ghosts people
don't be like Ryan and walk in the house saying the ghost's name 20 times
hey Jared what's up man where you at dude come and get me
not good I told you guys before we started playing this game I said guys this game freaks
me out dude I like psychological horror is my favorite kind of horror I have said that
like supernatural psychological stuff gets me every single time I want to have fun I'm not
one of these people where it's like, oh, it's just a video game.
It's not real so I can't enjoy, you know, like getting into the mood on this.
And neither one of you guys are like that either.
So I was really excited to go into phasmophobia with two nobs that have never played it before.
I knew what to expect out of this.
And I kept telling you guys, guys, this might be one of the scariest games I think I've ever played.
And you two kind of went, oh, that makes me interested.
So what was the first, like, we were walking into the house, you know,
you start off in this trailer you get your ghost hunting gear it drops you off at this location
that you choose and you start to walk into this house Ryan I still remember us walking in
and then you were like yo this is this is creepy so like how would you describe like the atmosphere
like that that to me is what sets this game apart and I remember you distinctly kind of saying like
oh my gosh like okay I didn't realize it was going to be like this yeah for sure this this is one thing
that I think, you know, I, it's hard to, you know, they have so many horror movies and all these
different types of things to scare people, like sometimes blood and guts and gore scare people,
sometimes other things, you know, make you freaked out. To me, I think the best way to do it is
create an atmosphere of fear and panic to where you are just creeped out walking through
this, this, this silent environment. And, and I think they did such a good job.
job of that to where when you step foot in these houses and like like josh said every house is haunted
everywhere you go in is a haunted place so it's not if but when you are going to find something
it's just when you're going to find it or when it's going to find you that's a good way that is a
great way to put it exactly so so you walk in and then the go i remember asking like whoa wait
did the people do this did the ghosts do this there's writing on the walls it's all in red there's
candles everywhere so there's a weird lighting so so the the atmosphere they created such a creepy
place immediately when you step foot through that door you have entered that zone of the ghost and
and you don't know what's going to happen when it's going to happen and you have to start using
utilizing your tools and seeing what you can figure out and like like you said dude my first thought
was like how am i going to fight this thing it's like no you can't you just got a
not die you need to figure out what it is and then get back and report and so that's the whole
essence of the game and and and they created a place that has this thin line of tension in my opinion
where it's like you see everything around you and you hear everything they did really good job
audibly um to create that tension as well and then you just you know it turns into hell
immediately and you got to run or you got to hide or you know as ace knows you die
So they did such a good job on creating the atmosphere that I think makes what this game is.
If it was just blood and guts, it wouldn't be as cool.
I think they did create an eerie feeling where you just felt like something was going to happen.
And then when it did, you felt the panic.
I didn't want to pass the threshold of the first door we opened when we started this game.
I opened that door to that house and all that red lighting.
yeah i knew there was a ghost in there i knew it was our job to go in there and decipher what kind of
ghost it was i just stood frozen at that threshold because it's like everything in my body
tells me if i go in here i'm not coming out yeah like so this is one of those things where
i have to point out that the audio in this game is absolutely one of the he
peak things that makes this game as scary as it is and it's so good and so subtle at times when you
you talk about that threshold when you are outside in the trailer and you're walking up the driveway
and you unlock the door to the house like it's normal sound the second you cross over that threshold
the audio gets this like weird hum to it it almost like mutes but then it's got this like creepy
just background hum where it's very very subtle you almost don't notice it until you start listening
for it, but it's instantly
creepy. It is instantly like
oh my gosh, like you hear
your footsteps, the house is
dark, it's not like these people left the lights on
for you, and
you know, you guys talk about like all
the red, there's like demonic ruins over
everything. Now that is a Halloween event
so the game is not normally like that
all the time. They kind of
spruced it up for this Halloween event,
but even still, when you were
creeping through this empty abandoned
house with no lights on, and all
you have as a dim flashlight. You don't have a bright flashlight either. And you are listening
for sounds and it is constantly just giving you little like just little sounds off in the
distance that don't really sound out of place to kind of almost lull you into a sense. So you'll just
hear like a tick or maybe an electrical hum like two rooms over or something like that until all
of a sudden some dishes just smash into the floor and they scare the crap out of you, right? Or
the ghost so they can have these things
called ghost events
where the ghost will just show up
all of a sudden in the room
scare the tar
out of you for like
three or four seconds and then just
disappear right and it's like
oh my gosh what was that
I saw him I saw him
and the thing
and see that's the other thing right is
half the time you're looking in different
directions so one person sees the ghost
for a few seconds
and these ghosts are creepy
Beepy, dude.
They are little children ghosts.
They are disfigured old people ghosts.
Some of them have like old machetes or like sithes and stuff like that.
Like there is a wide variety of how these ghosts appeared.
It really, really freaks you out when you see it.
Because again, the audio goes with that.
You see it.
And you also know that there is didly squat you can do against these ghosts.
Like they are mad that you were there.
You were not supposed to be there.
You cannot fight them.
and you are helpless and that sense of tension and Ryan you said it when you know it's not if it's
not like oh well we didn't find anything so whatever it is when you are going to find that ghost
or that ghost is going to find you that just heightens that sense of tension and phasmophobia gives
you that tension like no other game out there dude and it's what i love about it and it's what
it absolutely freaks me out because you're there the whole time and you're there the whole time
And you're just like, guys, I know it's going to happen.
I know what's going to happen.
I don't know when.
And then, oh, did it just happen?
And you're like, oh, wait, no, that was just a ghost event.
Man.
And then, like, the heartbeat sound that goes with it where you're, you can like, it's just in the distance.
Dude, oh, my goodness.
What a masterful way to create atmosphere in a game to make you just absolutely terrified.
You are looking around this house.
So this is, this is kind of the goal, right?
And Ryan, I'll toss this back to you because.
You are exploring these rooms in this house to try to find the room that the ghost is actually, like, haunting or it's like the ghost's, like, kind of base area.
So how would you explain that, Ryan?
So basically, in every kind of level you go into, it's a home or, you know, a barn or a camp site or anything, a school, a prison, like there's all kinds of different ones.
A lighthouse.
We even did a lighthouse one.
There's always a room that's like the ghost room.
that's the that's the main base that's where you can kind of capture the most information and
and get what you need to get out of it but man they uh you you you search this place and
there's different cues you get throughout with you have these dot sites or you have these
temperature readings or you have your emf reader or there's a ton of different ghost stuff that
you have like these tools ghost hunting tools if you will to find this space and once you find
it, you know, that's when the real crazy fun starts, because then you got to start trying to, you know, get everything dialed in. And you have to, you have a journal to try to dial down. Because the thing is, like we said, you're not fighting this ghost. All you're trying to do is get information and figure out who it is and what it is and what type of ghost. So you get into this room, you find the ghost room, and you have to decipher all the clues you get once you get in there to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, you.
kind of narrow it down to what type of ghosts you're going to you're going to you know claim this
one is yeah yeah and i think that's another thing that kind of is under underestimated by people
is like not only are you in the room that you know the ghost is like it's going too frequent
yeah but sometimes the gathering of evidence is creepy as well oh you know you're watching
this emf meter and it's like hey you're trying to see if the emf meter hits level five which
will give you a clue as to what type of ghost it is,
but sometimes it starts beeping and it goes up to like level three
and you're just watching it and you're like,
is it going to hit five? Is it going to hit five?
Looking around.
And then one of the clues is like a ghost writing.
So you put a book down on the ground and then like if the ghost responds,
it just starts scribbling in this book like right in front of you,
but you don't see the ghost.
You just see writing happening and that creeps you out.
And then Ace, to me, the ghost,
the ghost box where you have to talk to the ghost
is quite possibly the creepiest thing
that I never ever, ever want to do in a video game.
It is mentally upsetting.
Explain to people what the ghost box is, dude.
So the ghost box, you turn it on,
you go into the ghost room,
and oftentimes the ghost will,
on the board when you start,
it'll say whether the ghost responds to people together
or alone.
Which is fine.
90% of the time, it's alone.
It's alone.
So you take the ghost box,
the unlucky soul,
turn it on you go into the ghost room and turn off the lights and you start asking the ghost
questions and how old are you yeah did you die here do you want to hurt us and if you're the
unlucky soul holding the box sometimes you get an answer you did the ghost responding to you
creepy when you don't want it to respond to you and of course it responds in the creepiest voice
imaginable like this is like this is a multiplayer game i don't even know that we clarified that
you can play solo but this game is absolutely so good with people to play with that are that are
similar right we have argued we have literally argued over who has to go into the house with the
ghost box i'm not going in the dark scary room and ask those questions and it's like i'm not
going like and then like ryan and i like repeatedly have just sent ace where we're
we're like, Ace, you need to go.
And then, like, you're outvoted.
So Ace is like, gosh, darn it.
Like, I just went last time and we're like, we're not going.
You got to go, Ace.
It's like the time I was hunted twice in a row and locked out of the closet.
Oh, man.
If only.
All right.
So, listen, we got to take a quick break.
We'll talk a little bit more about some of the gameplay.
And then we'll kind of share some moments that make this game kind of special and unique and just a memorable game to play.
We'll be right back after this quick break.
Ace, I'm not going back in this house, dude.
You need to go in there, dude.
Like, you need to go gather the evidence.
Ryan and I, Ryan, you will just wait out in the truck.
You can watch on the cameras to see if Ace dies.
That sound cool?
But I did it last time.
Why are I going to do it again?
Well, yeah, but now you know how to do it, Ace.
Oh, whatever.
It doesn't matter anyway.
I'm going to go as soon as I walk in the door.
This is how this game goes, man.
I'd rather get stuff done than spend time working.
Oh, man.
guy like okay so we've talked about the evidence gathering so the thing is is that each ghost
you're trying to compile like three different pieces of evidence right like if the ghost answers
you on the ghost box that is confirmation you click a you go into your journal you click that
evidence and that will narrow the list of ghosts down and there's like i want to say like 30 different
ghosts dude right oh my gosh that have different behaviors like when you get to be an expert in
this game like my daughter is like our good buddy hell of it
that we were playing with some people know the behaviors where they're like oh this ghost like he
doesn't really respond when there's people around or like or this ghost keeps throwing objects at
us so it might be this kind of ghost or things like that like so there are traits to these ghosts
but once you compile the evidence you go okay well it did respond on the ghost box the EMF meter hit
level five and this room has freezing temperatures because the ghost makes it freezing
Bing, bang, boom, you put those three in your journal and it says, oh, well, this ghost is revenant.
So now you have done your job.
You have identified the ghost and you want to just get the heck out of Dodge at this point.
Because the most terrifying thing that can happen in this game is the ghost starts to hunt you.
Slam.
The longer you stay in the house and the more things you do while you're in the house, you start ticking this ghost off.
And when the ghost hunts you,
it's it's it's it's just terrifying guys it's like your flashlight starts to flicker any light source
that you have flickers and goes out your walkie-talkies that you have this game has proximity chat
by the way your walkie-talkies start to just turn into static you hear this pounding heartbeat
in your audio and you just start to freak out then you hear the door slam and then if you look
yeah door oh oh oh and the worst part is the ghost traps
you in the house. So it slams and locks the front door so you can't get out. Your only hope
to survive is to go hide in a closet or like a bureau or a room somewhere and hope that the
ghost goes after your buddies instead of you. This is like a lot of our listeners have seen
the reel that came about from our Twitch play session. We voted for Ace to go and investigate
this room. Ace takes one step out into the hallway. The ghost starts hunting.
Ryan and I slammed the doors of the closet that we're hiding in closed.
Ace starts trying to get into the closet.
We are holding the doors closed.
Ace is cussing at us.
The ghost sees Ace.
The ghost kills Ace right in front of us.
And then Ace just tells us what he thinks about our moms at that point.
It was absolutely glorious.
But these are the moments that make this game incredible with your friends.
Like the fact that this game is multiplayer is what makes it to me.
Like, yes, it's probably creepy.
anything to play solo but man
that fear that group
fear that you get is
like no other game man you never feel safe
ever oh exactly
you never do uh Josh you
you obviously like you said played this before us
um so I was like oh I'm gonna play someone
get some money so I can buy equipment so
in this game there's different equipment you can buy
and you have to earn money through your
uh kind of trips out to find these ghosts
and I was going to go earn some extra money, you know, by myself.
And, dude, it's, it's still equally just as scary.
But to be able to play with your friends to where you're talking to each other,
because there is proximity chat, but then you also have your radio.
So if somebody's up in the second story, you talk on the global chat and you hold down B
or whatever it is.
And then you're like, hey, man, I'm up here.
Did you see anything?
No, no.
And you can kind of move around.
so having that ability to just vibe off each other and then just have that fear when when the ghost hunts and then you just run and you're you're locked in there so you've got to find a closet so when you're walking through you're opening every closet door so that you have easy access to run into it's just they did such a good job on making like I said the atmosphere and then making a space to where it's it's so fun uh with multiple
people like to play with i don't understand i don't see how anyone could not have a good time
with a group of friends playing this game it is it is so good if you haven't played it absolutely
check this thing out it is it is uh it is an all-timer as far as spooky games go like for
for one that you can play with friends i think i think it's other yep i was good i think it's
i was just going to say i'm going to go back to the audio real quick too because ace like when
you were getting chased at one point the ghost was singing ring around the road
to you. I got chased.
It was a little baby. It was a little kid
giggling, like a little girl giggling
as it was chasing me, which freaked me out even
more. If the ghost catches
you, you die. Like, it kills
you. This is not a happy ghost. Like,
it's hands closed. You literally see
its fingers, like close around your face
and then it just kills you.
If you're watching your buddies, yeah, Ryan's
doing it right now. That's exactly what it looks like. If you're watching
your buddies, all you see is them like grab
their throat and start choking and then they just
keel over dead in front of you.
you son of a man
if you get killed by the ghost
you kind of go into the nether realm
and then you still get to kind of walk around the house
and see what your buddies are doing
you can hear them but they cannot hear you
but you could throw stuff
oh yeah no yeah and then you can throw stuff
at one point me and you Josh
we were just piling crap up in the garage
in the doorway dude ace and I we were both dead
and we're like let's just make a pile of dishes
Like, we're both ghosts.
Ryan can't see us.
Hell of it can't see us.
And we're just trying to have fun,
like throwing stuff at them and things like that too.
You know, it's just like, again,
if you have any sort of fear in your mind
where you can say,
hey, I'm going to suspend my disbelief.
I understand this is a video game,
but I just want to have fun and be scared.
I cannot think of a game that scares me more than phasmophobia.
Like, we were talking, dude,
this game makes my hand sweaty.
Like, it literally raises my pulse.
Like, this is the kind of, like, like, effect that phasmophobia has.
And I get that not everybody is that way.
Like, Paul, we love you to death, you know, an amazing friend.
But Paul is just insanely logical.
And he was like, I don't get it, guys.
Like, I don't get why this game's scary.
Don't play with people like Paul.
And again, we love you, Paul.
That's not shade to you.
But, like, find people that are willing to get into the, like, the mood of this game.
We all played with our lights completely out, rooms dark.
Headphones on.
That was a mistake.
Oh, my gosh, man.
Oh, my gosh.
And there are so many moments that happen in this game.
You know, Ace cussing us out while he was locked out of the closet and dying right in front of us.
Ryan, we were in a creepy farmhouse and I'm upstairs and I'm like, hey, I found the ghost room.
Ace is already dead at this point.
You come walking up the stairs.
Oh, yeah.
And the ghost just appears right behind you.
And I just freak out.
I'm like, he's behind you.
Ryan just panics and runs
He doesn't even know
And then the ghost just grabs them right
Right instantly
Ryan dies right in front of me
I'm just like nope
Nope, nope, I'm out of here
Screw this round
I'm not playing this one anymore
Like I'm out
You know like it's just
Man it just hits
It hits in a way that a lot of horror games
Don't hit you know
For sure
It's special
And the thing dude
It sold 25 million copies
Across all platforms
That's a lot
25 million.
Yeah.
And on Steam, they have an overwhelmingly positive review base with 338,000 reviews.
Ooh.
Yeah.
What's the actual number on that overwhelmingly positive?
Do you know?
I think it has to be 95% or higher to hit overwhelmingly?
96, 97.
Yeah.
So listen, if you're not, like, you know, if you're not catching on, this game's incredible.
When you have 300,000 reviews and you're overwhelmingly positive, like that is saying something, you know,
everybody that I know that has played phasmophobia loves this game for what it is you know like they
actually do a good job with the gameplay elements the atmosphere the audio the creepiness the ghost hunting
the scares the the the all that stuff is absolutely unlike many other games out there like honestly
it's like i can think like i always talk about like amnesia the dark descent as creeping me out
like phasmophobia creeps me out if not more like than that game did and again with your friends
being scared with your friends just leads to those moments and that like I'm not going you go I'm not going you go and then you have to go but you don't want to go so it's even scarier now you know it's just oh my goodness all right guys let's we're running low on time here and we could gush about this game for a long time um I want to rate the game you know because when we played it way way way back in the day we rated it and I'll be honest I don't think this game got a fair rating back then so ace let's start with you you are resident indie horror
lover and you have now been exposed to quite possibly what is considered one of the best indie
horror games in the genre. I am dying to know what you think of phasmophobia. How would you rate this
game? I have to agree with the masses on this being one of the best indie horror experiences out
there. genuinely, I don't know if I've been so scared of a game like I was of this one. And I found
something very interesting about this game. When everyone's alive and the ghost isn't haunting you,
everyone's scared and they want to stay together
the moment the ghost starts hunting you
it's everyone for themselves
oh you were just please get to them
like I remember running from the attic
down past you on the stairway being chased by the ghost
and it's like Josh run!
And then the ghost kills me anyway
it is it is that moment of please kill my friends
and not me please kill my friends and not me
Yeah, who's slower.
Ryan.
You don't have to be the fastest, you just, you know, you don't have to be the slowest.
Just don't be the loudest.
I'm watching Ryan get chased by the ghost, and I think he's actually going to get away.
And you can't get away.
Like, that is, that is doable.
You are not just instantly dead.
There is hope.
But Ryan is running, and I'm like, he's going to make it.
Ryan runs past Ace hiding in a corner.
And then the ghost just sees Ace and just instantly B-lines it for Ace and kills Ace instead.
And it's like, but Ryan doesn't know that either.
I didn't even know Ace was there.
I'm just like, I'm going to go.
circle around this stuff and hopefully I'll survive and then Aces like, ah, you,
just dies, you know, so.
I just fade out and I see shuckling.
So, what's the score, bro?
So I agree with the majority of people.
It's high nines for me.
I'm guessing 95, nine six.
It is, it is really good, dude.
My only complaint is there's not a lot to do when you die.
Like, when you, that's true.
You're kind of just stuck there until everyone finishes or everyone dies.
the session with hell of it
with us four
we played in
and then you guys died like
pretty early
there was a quick hunt
and then we're
I was just like
I died within like the first 30 seconds
you stepped over the threshold
you were dead
yeah I felt bad
I'm like oh man you know like
let's just we got a good bit of info
let's just go guess
and then we can start another one
so I do agree with that
for me
I thought this was fantastic
I'm not
like I am with food
Like, I don't like hot for the sake of hot.
I don't like just gore for the sake of gore.
I like things that are scary.
So it's like that really have some thought into it, that they put time in to make it, you know, the atmosphere.
And I think they did that so well in this game.
I think they really put in the effort to create an environment that petrifies you, man.
You're scared to go into certain rooms.
You're scared to open the door.
And I loved it.
dude i absolutely loved it i loved being spooked out i just wanted to boot it up again every time
hey guys you want to play who who wants to play so for me it's probably a nine two um it's it's it's
it's in there in the high category there's something they could change like we talked about
with when you're dead and in some other stuff but i think this is a very very good game everyone's to
check it out especially with friends yeah i agree yeah so i have played this game from its
infancy until its current.
Yeah, you're an OG dude. Yeah, man.
I am. You know, it's come a long way. I can kind of see some of like the changes.
And I think everything that they've done for this has improved the game.
I love this game. No other game freaks me out like this game does. Like legitimately,
people have heard me scream. My hands get sweaty. I get nervous. Like, this is exactly why you play
a horror game is to invoke that kind of response. Phasmophobia does it.
better than honestly any game i think i've played like legitimately i don't know that there's another
game that terrifies me like this i know there's people that are thinking okay well you can only feel
that way for so long right like yes you're going to be scared but eventually you're going to get
used to these ghosts and you're going to get used to them hunting you there is a deeper game here
you know my daughter is like she's super high level we got to play with hell of it there you know
he's super high level the people that want to continue to play they start to master it
right and this game offers higher levels of difficulty to where it's like okay the ghost doesn't
give you as many clues or it can hunt you instantly you don't get a setup period and so there are
mechanics of the game that experts will start to really appreciate at a higher level that keep
people playing for me this is the one downside to this game and this is not slander to the game
i am only saying this to inform the listeners right is like i want to be scared i want to scream like a little
baby girl. That is the reason I play this game. Gameplay wise, I don't really want to get into
the in-depth mechanics and that kind of thing. Like, that part doesn't interest me as much,
but they are there for people that want them, you know, to where it's like, okay, this game does
offer longer-term replayability. For me, not so much. I'm going to give this game a nine
because I think it absolutely deserves it. I don't know that there's a scarier game out there.
again, I just don't care for like the later game kind of gameplay stuff.
Oh my goodness, man.
You two guys.
I'm going to be able to see Ace this time.
Ryan and Ace are suiting back up into their Halloween customs.
Oops, I jinxed it.
Ace is lagged out now.
So yeah, a nine, a nine for me.
If you have not played this game and you can get into scary games,
you absolutely owe it to yourself to play this.
This game ain't expensive either.
Ryan, did you remember the price when you were looking on Steam on this one?
Gosh, it was like, I don't think it was money.
It was like 20 bucks.
It's like 20 bucks.
I was going to say, yeah, I feel like this game is like $20.
I mean, it's on sale right now, $14.99 for a Halloween sale, 25% off.
So it's going to be 20 bucks.
You can't find a scarier, more fun multiplayer experience with friends than phasmophobia.
Like, it just doesn't exist, in my opinion.
Listen, if you know of a game that does, come let us know.
