Hello, fellow gamers, and welcome to the video gamers podcast.
Gaming is filled with unspoken rules that every gamer knows like the back of their hand.
From blaming lag to accusing the game of cheating, every gamer knows the rules.
And on today's episode, we're going to be talking about the ones that are written into the gamers' creed.
But first, some introductions are in order.
I am your host, Josh, and joining me,
thou shalt proclaim that every trailer is a banger
and that thou shalt give that game a try
it's Ryan
Thou hast good music
Thou win me over
Is this how this is gonna go
I didn't think Ryan would get lost in the intro
On this one but
You know there's there's always records
And joining us
thou shalt use the word
aesthetic and banger
whenever possible
it's ace
thou knowest the rules and so do I
we need an aesthetic count
for sure
someone's definitely got an aesthetic count
on me like for sure
easiest intro I've ever written
when I was like what are some rules
for these two guys
uh
aesthetic and hand drawn
guys listen everybody this is going to be a fun episode this is the kind of episode that every
game are out there it does not matter the genre of game you enjoy it does not matter the
console that you prefer whether your pc game boy uh mobile gamer whatever these are the unspoken
rules of gaming we have each come up with five to six rules and if every single one of these
doesn't resonate with you like we would be amazed because even if they're not like you know
related to you, you know these rules.
Like, hands down.
You've been there.
It's just, it's the rules of gaming.
So I'm very excited for this one.
If you are new to the podcast, welcome in.
You know, new listeners every day.
So thank you for checking us out and joining us.
We're going to get to the rules of gaming here in just a minute.
But Ryan, I think we got a new review for you to read.
Vos does have a review.
For sure.
A new rule.
review.
All right.
You got to do this.
You got to do this review and your best
without whatever accent
that is.
I got,
now I got to read it as it as it goes, man.
As is,
man.
It's the integrity that we hold here, man.
That's,
you know,
that's,
we got to be proper for all the new people.
Right.
Exactly.
That,
uh,
we got a five star review coming in from NoMe,
1986.
Good year.
Um,
happy.
You don't know me.
Happy.
You don't know me, Ryan.
You don't know me?
Yeah?
Bro.
Maybe.
Maybe.
Come on.
That face says everything.
It wasn't that bad, guys.
Pretty bad, man.
40-year-old no-me says otherwise, for sure.
Generational airball.
That's fair.
That's fair.
Happy 40th.
Congratulations on your next chapter in life, I guess, in gaming.
Five out of five stars.
That is the title.
And it reads as follows.
It feels like a friendly banter session between friends.
They stay away from politics and polarizing subjects.
Always a great listen.
Happy gaming gents.
Know me on Discord.
Well, thank you,
you know me.
Yeah.
Thank you know me.
Thank you so much.
You got great taste in the indie channel.
I'll tell you that.
And if you like this podcast, you don't know me.
Another generation layer.
That was better than yours.
For sure, dude.
That was so much better than that.
It was literally the same.
It was set up.
so much better.
It was set up so much better.
Oh my gosh.
It was exactly the same.
But Nomi, thank you for the awesome review.
And listen, if you have been a listener for a while,
or if you're a new listener and you make it to the end of this episode with all these
terrible jokes.
Good luck.
And you want to leave us a review?
You can do that on Apple Podcast.
That's where we read the written reviews.
If you listen on Spotify or another podcast app, make sure to tap that five stars for us so
that other gamers can be subjected to these pretty terrible dad jokes.
Thou must leave a review.
Thou should leave us a review.
Oh, all right.
Well, since we're all warmed up, boys.
Oh, wait, no, no, we got to thank somebody.
Oh, yes, yes, yes, yes.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, sorry.
We're getting ahead of ourselves because we're excited and we're stupid.
But we would love to thank Carson Reagan for signing up for rare status to support the podcast.
Carson, thank you very much.
Thank you.
You know, and Carson's a Canadian because this came through in Canadian.
Oh, I'm sorry.
It's a little bit more expensive for our Canadian friends north of the border to support the show.
So Carson's going the extra mile and saying, hey, exchange rate be darned.
I'm still supporting you guys.
And we very much appreciated Carson.
And if you're not already in the Discord, hop in the Discord so that we can say hi
and you can check that out and hang out with all the people.
Guys, we had like six new people joined this morning.
And then like half of them dove in started chatting away right away.
We're like,
this is amazing.
Shout out to Patrick,
by the way,
too,
for always having that locked and loaded instantly with the questionnaire.
Every time somebody joins up and they're a newbie and they're like,
hi,
or they just jump in or even the lurkers that finally jump in.
Like he always has that ready.
And it's kind of like a feeler.
Like,
what do you like?
What are you like?
What are you like that people?
Hey, blah, blah.
And there's a good questionnaire he does.
And it's always cool to see just the community do it.
And we don't have to,
like to see them interact it's neat yeah it's really cool it really is so uh if you like being a lurker
we you are more than welcome we have a lot of lurkers we respect it but we do have a discord
server with over 1400 gamers it is super active we talk about it all the time we love seeing people
being like hey i've been listening for like a week or two finally checked out the discord and then
they're like oh this place feels like home and then we're like yeah that's why we say this all the time
The oasis.
All right, you boys ready to get to some rules.
I'd say so.
Okay.
Doubt is ready.
Just a reminder, we each came up with unspoken rules of gaming.
Maybe these resonate a little bit more with our personal play styles or experiences.
Maybe it is just a common thing that we all know or we all have experienced.
But we're going to take turns going through these rules.
If we miss any, we want to hear about it in the comments section.
So if, you know, we can't cover every rule, but if there's one where you guys out there are like, how did you not mention this one?
Drop us a comment in the comment section on Spotify.
We read all of them.
We respond to all of them.
It's been popping lately.
So it is a great place to talk about the show or just topics in general.
It's very active in the comment section.
So make sure you leave us what your unspoken rules are as well.
All right.
Ace, I'm going to throw it to you to kick us off on this one.
What is a rule of?
of gaming ace.
Thou shalt immediately call out the enemy's position when you lose the 1v1.
Oh, you mean that Genji that I thought I could take on?
And then he just smokes me.
And I'm like, uh, uh, Genji in the back line guys.
Getji in the back line.
You're super confident.
Like, I've got this.
And then as soon as you're like losing, you're like, he's back here.
He's back here.
And you always comment like on their help.
One shot, two shots, two shots.
Get him.
Get him.
Get him.
Oh, yeah.
He's one, he's one, he's one.
Can I make a request of you guys as my two Overwatch buddies?
No.
If it's the pink, you do that a lot.
The next time that I think I'm going to take on a Genji is like Life Weaver, you know, just tell me, hey Josh, that's probably not the best idea.
Because in my brain, I'm like, I'm going to smoke this dude.
And then it usually doesn't go that way.
He only has to click one button and you're dead.
Yeah, I know.
And I got to click a lot.
So.
And then you just hear.
Ace. You hear Ace in the background. He's reflecting. He's reflecting. Don't shoot the
Defleck. Don't shoot him. Don't shoot him. And then
if Ace dies, regardless if it's from the deflect or not, everybody gets yelled at
for shooting the deflect at that point, too. Yeah. I like
that one, Ace. We've all been there. We've all lost that one. I feel like we're going to have a lot
of Overwatch stuff that we're talking about. Very possible. Maybe so. Some of these
pertain to shooters. You know,
not just Overwatch, but, you know, they're kind of universal.
So I'll jump in here next because talking about shooters,
Thou shalt teabag the guy who hath killed you five times in a row before you finally won the duel.
It doesn't matter that that guy has killed me every single time.
Every single time.
The one time that I get the finishing blow, yeah, like I didn't even really win the 1v1.
It's just that I happen to get the kill and the kill feed.
I am running over to that dude and I am planting the tea bag something fierce because I know you're better than me.
You beat me five times now.
But you didn't teabag me and I teabag bag you.
And so I win.
Josh is just Dr. Strange where he just goes,
just holds up the one.
She just holds up the one.
That's all I need.
That's all I need.
I let Cass kill.
for me after like the third time getting killed by him and then I come over to their corpse and
it's the same thing exactly like you know this guy's better than you you know it he's killed you
multiple times but the one time that you might have you know been alive that's where you go one time
i outlived him see that's that's my secret i always teabag oh you're like Hulk yeah yeah where
it's like i ryan teabags himself that's my secret cap he's like trying to shake his corpse on the
ground like i'm a teabag me for you man
It's like, yeah, I deserve that.
All right. All right, Ryan.
What's your first rule of gaming?
Thou shalt jump repeatedly while traveling because walking normally somehow feels slower.
Oh, I feel called out.
Yeah.
Okay.
This is all on point.
And this is literally every game.
This is every game.
And even it extends to like to even if you don't have like a run, even if the run was the same speed as the walk.
it just feels slower.
Like I want something to move me.
So I'm like, come on, come on, let's go.
Let's go.
Let's go.
Why does it feel faster to jump?
I don't know, dude.
Why does that make you feel faster?
You're doing something.
That's why, dude, this one got me because that is me 100%.
It does not matter.
I'm bunny hopping.
Maybe it's being old school where like you, we learned how to bunny hop.
Old counter strike.
When you're moving.
1.5, dude.
So like maybe, maybe we just now bunny hop naturally without even thinking about it.
op bunny hopping around dude that's old school man i feel like the only games they're like the exception
to this for me are games like cyberpunk where like i feel immersed enough in the world that i feel
weird jumping around or or if they have stupid stamina bars where then all of a sudden you're just
like you drain your stamina and you're like oh yeah Minecraft that'll happen in micrath yeah uh yeah
Minecraft's the same way i'm jumping everywhere just because you never know when i'm gonna
need to jump over that ledge that's a mile in the distance uh there as well all right a's
Hit us with another rule of gaming.
Thou shalt save the game manually before quitting, even if it just auto saved.
I don't trust that auto save at all.
Never trust the auto save.
I do this every single time, man, where it's like, I know I saw the little thing.
You know, I followed the rules.
I didn't turn off the power to my computer while it was saving.
But 100% of the time, I'm creating a manual saved just in case.
dude. You get burned
one time on an auto save not
working and that's all it takes. You never
ever will allow an auto save to
do it for you again? Now do you overwrite
that manual save every time or do you create
a new save? I create a new one.
See, I overwrite it because
like I just need the one. Yeah, but like what if I
get soft lock somewhere I need to go backwards.
Yeah, exactly. Now that's the difference.
If it's like, you know, let's say Which are three
right? Like I'm saying I have 50
saves by the end of like a big RPG like that. But if it's just a game where it's like, hey,
do I really trust that the auto save saved right here? That one I'll just overwrite the manual
just so I have that like fail safe. That's fair. That no, that's fair. Yeah. Yeah. Now do you name,
how do you guys name your saves like in a big RPG like that? Like if I create 50 saves.
You name your save? I don't know. Is that? I just, yeah, I know where I'm at based on location of where I
saved. Mine will literally be like exploring or return to base or or,
about to die or
boss fight or something like that, like in the save
list. So I, like, it just is like a little thing
where I know where I'm at.
You categorize your saves, dude.
That's crazy. If you have 50 saves,
how else you're supposed to know?
Because I know where I am based on location.
Okay, Ryan.
You play a game halfway through anyways.
What do you do on these saves for?
Why does a game let you name the save
if you don't need to name the save?
For crazies like you.
Yeah.
Can't you see the playtime at the bottom?
In a minute, I want an island here?
Yes, you are.
You guys don't name your saves?
Listeners, please let us know if you name your saves.
Please let us know.
I am baffled by this.
I don't think I've literally ever in my life.
I'm 38 years old, been playing games my whole life.
Give you a place to name the save.
I wouldn't do that if it didn't want you to name the save.
What is the point, though?
Like, what does it matter whether you're exploring or this or that?
Like, you're always going to go to the...
I'm going to load this save game.
Do I want the one where I'm back at base and I'm saying?
and I've emptied my inventory, or do I want to load the save right before the boss fight?
Or do I want to load the save where I'm about to just go out and exploring and I've emptied my inventory?
So look at the time.
Yeah, look at your playtime.
Look at your playtime.
But you know where you are based on the playtime.
But no, because I don't know what I did.
What if my, what if I played more got myself in a bad spot?
And then now it's like, well, I don't want that save.
But it's like, oh, I'm just loading the most recent save.
And then it's like, crap.
This isn't where I don't say.
And then a bad spot.
And then four seconds later you go, oh, this is the wrong one.
And then you do the one before it.
And then you're done.
Yeah.
Or if I named it, I'd know which one to load.
Maybe you should just overwrite yours.
Yeah, maybe.
All right.
Wow.
Anyway, please comments, people out there.
Yeah, let us know.
I'm not crazy.
Tell me I'm not crazy.
All right.
Thou shalt save all consumables in an RPG.
For that time you think you might need them,
knowing you will not, does not change this rule.
It does not.
I could probably count on my hands the amount of times I've used consumables in an RPG.
I ended.
What is with that, by the way?
Everybody does that.
Yeah.
They have used.
You gotta save them for the boss.
Do you know you have to save it for the boss?
You have,
what if you need it?
What if you need it?
What if you need it?
Yeah.
Like what are you going to do?
I picked up an item in elder ring that was specifically meant to shackle a single boss.
I knew this.
Still did not use it on set boss.
I guys I end every game with like 50 consumables of every kind yeah and in my brain I know I have them I know I should use them and yet it is that I might need these later on yeah and then I wind up never needing them and I don't know how much easier it would make the gameplay if I actually just use the consumables like the developers probably intended but I can't bring myself to do it that's the thing then when you like do another play through and then you do use the consumables you're like I'm going to try this stuff
stuff out and you use it and then it's oh that was a lot easier than I thought yeah you're like
why was that so much easier oh this I was a sword does some damage that's me discovering like status
effects and eldering like bleed I was like oh wow I was watching bobby play remnant two the other
day and Bobby was fighting and used a consumable and I was like what what was that and he was like
oh it's just like a little healing consumable and I was like don't use that man you might need that
Later.
Use the dragon heart.
He'll heal your spouse.
And he was like, well, I mean, I figured I needed to get healed.
And I'm like, but that's a consumable.
And he's like, yeah, but he healed me.
And I'm like, you can't do that?
That's, that's against the rules.
What are you doing?
You've broken the rules.
Josh has done all content on Remnant 2 except consumables.
Yeah, I have not done any.
He doesn't know anything about that.
Yeah, except for the XP boost.
I know that one.
Consumables never heard of a level of something.
I'm sure you do know that one.
All right. Ryan, we're back to you, buddy.
What's your next rule for us?
Thou shalt spend
10 minutes stealthily
infiltrating the enemy base,
get spotted, and then immediately
murder everybody instead.
There are two kinds of
stealth, my friend. Yeah, yep.
The kind where nobody sees you
and the kind where there's nobody left
to see you. Yep, yep, exactly.
That's exactly right. Which I
love, because in, like, with
Metal Gear Solid 5, which Josh,
you played you were forced to play that's exactly how you play that game where you try to stealth
but then if it doesn't work out then you just murk everybody and they all die it's their fault for
seeing you that's the way i look at it bro i was trying to be peaceful i was trying to be peaceful i didn't
want to kill anybody but you know what that dude decided that he saw me huh and not everybody
has to die that's exactly how it's not my fault in uh double o seven as well you can be stealthing around
and then it's like, oh, license to kill time.
Everybody's dead now.
Everyone's dead now.
Have you guys seen the movie The Town with Ben Affleck where they robbing like money trucks and stuff like that?
They're in Boston.
No?
Oh.
I've heard of it, but I've not seen it.
It's a decent movie.
It's not a great movie, but there's a funny part where they're swapping cars and they're all in like none outfits with masks because they just like robbed a money truck.
And they have like, you know, MP5s and stuff.
and then they look over
and then there's just a cop sitting in the car
and he looks over at him and they all stop and look
and it's just like a really tense moment
and then he just goes
and he just turns away and looks the other direction
that's what this reminded me of
it's like he's like yeah I'm not messing with that
like that's what these guys should do in the game
you know and then they wouldn't die
yeah that'd be the smart decision
all right ace hit us with another one
thou shalt not stop attacking the boss
when he is low HP to heal
he's almost there he's almost there he's almost there he's almost dead he's almost dead
just keep going i'm gonna i'm gonna i'm gonna i'm gonna i'm gonna attack on after this one ace because
mine's very similar to this one but like this is the moment where it's like i have no
health but neither does he do i go for it or if i can get this heel off i stand a much much
better chance of actually winning this fight and it never goes it's an ego check man it is an
ego check every time.
Well, here's mine because
I have one that's very, very similar, so we'll
combine these here.
Thout shalt panic
on that boss fight when you are but
one hit from victory
and miss every Dodge,
Block, or Perry, and tell
thou art slain.
Dude.
Man. I've been playing
Mortal Shell too. Oh, boy.
Literally last night, I was
doing a boss fight, and
I was one hit from
killing this guy. I was probably on my like 13th attempt and he had a sliver of life left and I was like, I'm going for it. And then he did some combo and wound up killing me with like the sliver of life left. And I was just like, no. And my wife literally goes, what's going on? And then I was like, he had one hit. He was one hit. And then she was just like, oh my gosh. She thought I was dying or something. You know? And I was just like every freaking time, dude, I,
I don't know if it's the
worst feeling.
It is the worst.
You just choke.
You choke at the last second.
Yes, 100% of the time, dude.
Every time, dude.
Oh, it sucks.
It's always a soul's game, man.
It's always a sense game.
You're dodging everything.
You're blocking.
You're doing everything.
And then all of a sudden at the very end, it's just like you forgot how to play the game.
It's like, oh, uh, it's like one hit.
I just need one hit.
And this guy's, and then no, no.
I go for the reckless, like, jumping overhead slash and they ultra instinct out of the way.
you're just freaking fist palm into the wall.
And then you're dead, and then you have to redo the whole stinking thing.
All right, Ryan, one more from you, and then we'll take a break,
and then we'll come back with a few more here.
What you got for us?
All righty.
Thou shalt accidentally steal one spoon in an RPG and accept the entire town now must die.
Yep.
Thief, call the town guards.
You dirty thief.
You did.
This reminds, there's so many of these stupid games that I played, especially.
I was, I just, it was like jail simulator playing Kingdom Come Deliverance, too.
I was always in, I was always in, what is it?
The pillory.
The pillory.
I was always in the pillory.
I, you know, and then, you know, Skyrim and everything else.
But yeah, you accidentally grabbed something.
Hey, or even the lady accidentally slept in her bed.
And then she was like, what are you doing here?
Then she called the guards for that.
I remember.
just, yeah, I was so mad. I was ready to quit the game after that. But yeah, dude, this is, this one, this one made me laugh. Because yeah, you just, you accidentally grab something and it's just in the wrong spot when an NPC was watching and you're cooked, bro. Everybody's got to die after that. What game was it that came out of this year where you could take like negative traits and one of them was kleptomaniac. So that like, oh, I think that was Starfield, wasn't it? That was Starfield, wasn't it? That was Starfield, I think it was Starfield. That would make sense of his Bethesda. I thought it was Outerwolds, too. Uh, uh,
but,
kind of the same thing.
Kind of the same thing.
But yeah,
where,
oh, you might actually be
thinking out of worlds too
where it was like
your guy would occasionally
just steal something around them
against your will.
Yeah.
Dude,
those are such fun little things
that developers do.
Kudos to that stuff, man.
All right.
Well,
one more rule of,
of podcasting is
thou shalt take a break
for the ad
so we can afford
all these games.
We'll be right back.
Guys,
I have realized over this break
that we are really stupid.
Oh, yeah.
Like, I mean, you realize that now?
But yeah, I did some self-reflecting.
I guess you are a little slower, huh?
Yeah, that's true.
It is, by the way, outer worlds.
Certain flaws or traits can be triggered compulsively stealing behavior in settlements.
So what's outer worlds?
That's so funny.
I remember that one and I remember the one where like if you crouched your knees would like pop and it would alert everyone around you.
Wait, really?
Okay, that would be, that's me in real life.
I am not.
Josh's knee would pop out of its socket
and then he'd go, ah!
Yeah, yeah.
All right, Ace, we're back to you.
Hit us with another rule of gaming.
Thou shalt focus the enemy
if they are also playing your character.
Oh, mirror match?
Mirror match, baby.
Dude, nothing else matters.
No, nothing else matters.
No, nothing else matters.
It's all about that dip, baby.
Give me that diff.
Oh, you absolutely see it too when like,
when we're playing Overwatch.
We'll go back to that.
if there's a Wu Yong on the enemy team
and I am on Yu Yong,
all my damage is going back there.
Oh yeah.
Yeah, you've got to focus the other guy
because like I said, there can be only one.
It's like Highlander, man.
There can be only one, and one of us is better.
Nine times out of ten, they swap too,
which is the funny thing.
It just looks like Aquaman v. Aquaman
and just water going everywhere.
I see a bunch of water bubbles.
All right.
All right.
Here's one.
I think we can all relate to this.
thou shalt buy games on discount
even if you do not have time to play them
yet
guilty
take me away
this is on sale for 50% off
I've been interested in that game
I'll pick that up I'll play it later
hence uh what did I
what was the survival crafting pirate one that I got
oh wind rose that you picked up at those I've bought windows
and I haven't even I literally haven't installed it
how's hell let loose going right
yeah how's that
i haven't even bought that so
oh you haven't bought it i haven't even bought it on you right
look at you i know what i'm doing i know i don't have time for anything
unfortunately
dude the backlog the backlog growth
4663 games in my library i can't tell you how man
dude you have 463 that's so many
yeah i have i bet he hasn't played half of them
i have 154
Knowing Ace, I bet he hasn't played half.
I'll know by the end of the year.
Because I'll get my Steam review.
Yeah.
You've played three of your 400 games.
Oh, no.
All right, Ryan, what do you got for us?
Oh, okay.
Let's do, um, ooh.
Thou shalt declare, I'm getting off after this match.
then refuse to end the night on a loss.
Yep.
Yeah.
One more.
We can't end like this.
We can't end it.
It becomes we can't end in a loss.
Then thou proceeds to lose three more times.
Can't end in a loss and then we're on a winning streak.
Then thou is up past midnight.
Can't give this up now.
We're three wins in, guys.
Then thou realizes you have to be up at 4 a.m.
that's the problem is that you you you play this and you're you're you feel good after a win so you're
like yeah let's do another one and then you lose and you're like oh no we can't end on that because
the win felt so good and then you lose again you're like oh wait hold hold up hold up the next one
next one obviously will win and you just keep losing and man yeah it's it's a slippery slope
you go down dude the best this is an actual honestly like a good rule for gaming is you just say play
till we lose, right?
Like when you know you're getting near the end of the night,
you just say, hey, play till we lose?
And then your buddies go, yeah, play do we lose?
If you go on a win streak and you win five games in a row,
you're, you're amped, you're hyped and it feels amazing.
And then if you lose, you just go to bed.
If you're near the end of the night anyway and you just get stomped,
then you're like, okay, well, we're calling it quit.
We have the opposite problem.
It's like, man, we sure have lost a lot of games.
We can end on that loss.
And then we get a guy that's just AFK, the whole match.
I can't end on that loss.
Yeah, there's always a reason.
I do a lot of times when you guys sign off and like cast leaves us and then you guys are
like, I'm going to go, I do usually play one more because then I'm out of your stupid
MMR where you guys are like ridiculous.
And I go and I just go like 25 and 3 and just wreck everyone, do 10 and 20.
Okay.
And then I feel good about myself and I can go to bed.
Ryan loves his cardboard lobbies.
Oh, it's amazing.
Yeah, it's the best.
It's the best.
I'm hitting bank shots and everything.
It's so good.
All right, Ace, we're back to you.
What do you got for us?
Thou shalt heal through status effects instead of ever cleansing them.
Yeah, I get time to clear no poison, man.
What are you talking about?
Poison?
I'm on fire, whatever.
I'll just heal through that crap, man.
It is so rare that I'll ever cleanse a status effect unless it's just like really annoying.
You know why?
Because that requires you to use a consumable, Ayes, it does.
It does.
It does.
It does a consumable.
Because you're going to save it for when you really, really, really.
need it.
Bro, if I get, like, afflicted with any kind of status in Eldon Ring, it's immediately
just like, chug in the estes for us.
Yeah.
Oh, yeah.
Clean stuff?
No.
Why?
Why would I do that?
I could live with a little bit of scarlet rot.
Who cares?
Yeah.
It's not that bad.
It's not that bad.
All right.
Here we go.
Thou shalt accuse anyone better than you of being a hacker.
Wall hacks.
Well, these guys got out.
The way that guy shot me.
No way!
That dude's hacking, man.
That dude's hacking.
That's no way that was a headshot.
That's just so...
No, no, no, no, no, no.
I'm watching the replay after this.
I want to see this replay.
Oh, he did just kind of get lucky.
Okay.
Oh, he did this one.
Oh, he missed three before that?
Occasionally, though, you are correct, and you see the most wicked flick you've ever seen in your life.
Oh, yeah.
Or they're like looking this way and then it just...
that wicked flick.
Yeah, except when you're the one that gets that
crazy flick and you're like,
I can't believe that hit it.
And then you're like, wait, that guy probably thinks I'm a hacker.
Yeah, it's nice thing.
But that's fair.
No one thinks you're hacking.
It's the best compliment for sure.
Getting called a hacker when you're not.
Yeah, exactly.
All right, Ryan, you got another one for us?
Yeah, buddy.
Thou shalt accidentally skip a cutscene
and then immediately pretend
thou did not care what happened.
I didn't want to watch that anyways
Like I mean it was whatever
You know I don't I don't care
Yeah I didn't need to see that
It wasn't important
I didn't need to see that
It didn't matter
I do it like at least once a game though
Like it happens and you get so annoyed
For like a split second
You're like it was short
It was probably not important
Yeah it's probably no big
It probably wasn't a big plot point or no big deal
I'm just trying to be Patrick
Like I don't watch cut scenes
You know
Oh dude
Calling out our boy Patrick
Watching Andy try to skip
every Diablo 4 cut scene was incredible.
We were playing Diablo 4 for the first time and Andy was just like, where are you guys at?
We're watching the cutscene.
What do you mean?
Lilith's doing this amazing like cutscene and it's beautiful and it's awesome.
It's cinematic and he's like, what the heck guys?
What are you doing?
We're watching the cut scene.
So I, you're making me nervous because I see the thing where it says one person has skipped.
And then I'm like all like, bro, like, do we skip it?
I don't want to skip it.
But now like he's sitting there waiting.
Yeah.
Don't skip the really good cutscenes.
Don't skip the good cutscenes.
I told you guys about the guy that reached out to me one day on on Discord.
And he was like, hey, dude.
He's like, I bought Expedition 33 because you were glazing it so hard.
And he's like, I don't understand anything that's going on.
And I was like, really?
And then I was like, where are you at?
And he's like, oh, I'm on some beach and some guy like showed up.
And I'm not going to spoil anything.
But he's like, you know, some guy showed up and all the stuff went down.
I don't know why.
And I'm like, have you been skipping all the dialogue and cuts?
scenes and the guy was like yeah why and i was just like what are you doing dude i'm not kidding me right now
don't skip all the dialogue in a narrative driven game i was baffled dude baffled so i told him i said
bro you can't do that in this game and then what's really funny is like a month later he DMs me again
and he's like bro one of the greatest games i've ever played and then i was like did you watch
and he's like yeah after you said that i went back and made sure i listened to all
the dialogue in the cutscenes. He's like, this game's amazing.
Wow. You don't say.
Why is that your instinct? Why is that your instinct to skip on the cutscene?
Especially in an RPG like that.
You know it's going to be heavy dialogue driven with those.
That's the only time you don't have to be thinking the whole time is when you're watching the cutscene.
I don't know that I've ever been more shocked by like somebody saying something to me in my life where I was just like, like, what?
You're skipping everything.
of course you don't know what's going on.
Yep.
Yeah.
That's a good one.
I think we got one more each.
One more.
Yeah.
All right, Ace.
Last one.
What do you got for us?
Thou shalt never pick the mean dialogue option to the first NPC you meet.
Oh, yeah.
I can't be evil like that, dude.
Not out the gate.
Not out the gate.
I have to get the vibe of where I'm at first before I can be mean to anyone.
Dude, I have played exactly one game in my life where I was just one,
100% the biggest jerk
I could ever be in a video game and it was Hogwarts
legacy of all games.
Right? And I still remember
because I went into that going, I am
going to make myself play this as
the biggest jerk imaginable. Slytherin, huh?
And the very first quest
in the game is where some girl sends you to go
retrieve something for her and then you
don't give it back. And then
she like lit into me and then
every time I would walk past her, she's like,
there's that guy. He's a thief. He stole my
whatever it was. And then I felt
so bad, like, every time.
And then I was just like, I'm sorry.
Is the orb in the lake?
Yeah, I just could, I can't.
I can't be mean in video games, dude.
I don't know what it is.
That's when I, my, like, third play-through of Baldersgate 3.
I did my Dark Rudge or whatever, and that's when we were supposed to be, like, mean.
And when I, spoiler for Balders Gate 3, when I killed all of the druids in the grove, I was just like, I'm a monster.
I'm so dumb awful.
What have I become?
Why am I break?
That's why I loved in...
It's long enough to see yourself become the villain.
Yep.
In Red Dead 2, you could just be a horrible, horrible jerk,
and then near the end, you just go to Santhani,
and then you just greet everybody for, like, I don't know, 10 minutes,
and then your honors all the way back to Max, and I'm like,
Hey, there, mister.
You're a good man, Arthur.
They pointed that out.
In the GTA 6, the 30-minute demo, they pointed that out.
Or maybe I read an article about it,
but they were like, that's one of the things with GTA6,
is they were like, you can't just go greeting people
to make up for all that things you've done. Yeah.
So in GTA6, they said
like they were aware of that and they're like, it doesn't
work that way. That's why I was evil and fable
too, like the original fable.
Yeah, I had some big old horns for sure
and like eight wives. Yeah. Do the same
thing. All right.
Last one for me.
Thal shalt complain about having too
many good games to play.
Gee, I wonder who that's about.
All of us.
all of us. What do you mean?
September, October? All these amazing games.
Wah.
Too many games.
What a, dude, how is, like, it's been crazy the last couple years where it's like, man,
I wonder how this year is going to be.
It can't be last year.
And then it's just bangor after bangor after banger.
You're like, what the heck is going on?
And then we get these crazy months like this.
There's too many games to play.
What are we going to do?
Way too many games to play.
Yeah.
We're going to whine about it, Ryan.
Yeah, we whine about how many great games there are and how little time.
we have to play them.
Yeah.
All right, Ryan, bring us home with the last rule of gaming.
This is the last rule in gaming and
absolutely the most utterly important rule
anyone could ever, ever, ever, ever have.
Okay.
Thou shalt always, no matter what,
peel for Josh because he yelled for it.
He wants to help. He wants help.
Yes.
Because he's 1V1 and a Genji in the back line.
and you have to peel.
Even if there's four enemies in front of you,
the whole other team,
and you're fighting them,
you should turn your back
and run to help Josh
because he yelled for it.
As the healer,
or sorry, support,
that's exactly,
Ace,
do you remember when we played with Nexivis
and he was on Deemann?
And then we got Dove,
and then he turned around
and peeled for us,
and like we just handily won that whole match.
Remember how Nexivis on Demon
has a jetpack
and can get back to the backline
in like 0.2 seconds.
Remember how nexivis on DEMON is
an absolute nightmare for the enemy team?
Yeah,
nexivis is also much better than me,
by the way.
Who's nexivis?
Nextivis is a good friend of the show.
A pray you never find out.
No much.
If you want to,
join our community day,
if we have another community day or community night,
and you'll learn very quickly who he is.
Also,
I like this rule of Ryan.
And that is,
it is a rule of games.
You've got to.
Anyone and everyone,
whatever Josh yells out,
you got to do it.
Also,
Res me, Ryan!
Mess me!
That shall always res, Josh,
no matter one.
Always res me first.
Even if you're going to die,
that shall res.
Steal all the loot before you res your friend.
That's Ryan's.
Yeah, that's Ryan there, yeah.
Hang on guys,
I'll come get you in a minute.
You're not going to gaslight me into this.
Loaded to the gills.
He's got,
like six guns stressed to his back. He's got a car. He's got all the stuff. You were dead.
Whatever, dude. Oh, man. All right. Well, listen, that is going to do it for our rules of gaming episode.
That was fun, dude. We got a rule for you all out there. We want you to leave a comment with an unspoken rule that every gamer knows that every gamer abides by. So leave a comment. If you listen on Spotify, if you just tap into this episode, you'll see the comment section. We want to know.
what the rules are that we did not get to in this episode
that every gamer knows inherently by being a gamer.
If you have not done so already, remember to rate the show.
You can leave us five stars on Spotify.
Leave us a review on Apple.
There's a good chance we'll read it on the show like we did earlier.
And listen, if you like what we do, if you think, you know what,
these guys put a lot of work into this, you know, games are expensive.
We just dropped $225 so we could cover Blood of Dawn Walker.

We could use your support.
We are the only reason we exist is because of the support of the listeners.
