Hello, fellow gamers, and welcome to the video gamers podcast. What's the first thing that comes to mind when you hear certain gaming terms or phrases? Well, on this episode, we're going to find out exactly how our brains and yours work when it comes to gaming. Before we get to the shenanigans, some introductions are in order. I am your host, Josh, and joining me, he's the first thing you think of when you hear bad takes. And the last thing you think about when you hear on time, it's Ryan. Listen, as we discovered in the Discord, there's a lot of really good Ryan's out there. And they have a lot of really good takes. And I agree with all of them.

Yeah. Whether they're on time or not. So for April, for people that are part of our Discord server, for April Fool's yesterday, our entire Discord server of like 1,300 people all changed their name to Ryan. or different aspects of Ryan. And then just pretended to be Ryan all day. It is one of the most glorious things I have seen a community do like ever. They had the best takes ever. It was awesome.

Times a man made construct like turn base combat sucks. It was great. I worked 90 hours over the last two days. I was at the group of my people. My 4,000 hobbies I have. You know, yeah, it was, it was awesome. And joining us, we only need one word to describe our dear friend and fellow co-host. And that word is diabetes.

It's Ace. I thought for sure it was going to be glutton. I would never insult you like that, Ace. Ace, just out of curiosity, how many donuts did you buy today? may have been 24 donuts, 12 original glazed, and one assorted dozen. I'm actually jealous, dude. I love donuts more than anything. Krispy cream donuts are the best.

And you set us a photo of the crispy creams. And I was just like, I freaking hate you, Ace. Oh, yeah. I forgot. You're not eating sugar right now. Like my favorite thing ever. So then Ace sends me a picture of freaking two dozen crispy creams. And I'm like, gee, all right.

That's it. And they're not even the regular ones. This is like a bunch of fans. This is like the fancy creams too. Yeah. Get out of here with the plain glaze stuff. I want the fanciest donuts. You give me maple bacon donuts and all that.

I love the maple bacon donut. I want like the crazy flavors of donuts. Oh my gosh. You guys are ridiculous. I bought a sort of dozen and I got a glazed dozen for $10. So it was a pretty good deal. Yeah, those are just filler. Like that's like to just you pop those, but you savor the fancy ones.

Yep. So I lashed out at Ace the only way I know and that's in the intro to this podcast. Perfect. Well, welcome in everybody. we've got a fun episode today. We are going to be playing kind of like a word association game where one of us is going to throw out a gaming term and the other two are going to give the first word

that comes to mind. And we have all agreed that we are not going to think about this. It will literally just be the first thing that comes to our brains. We have no idea what this is going to do or be like. But we know it'll be fun and entertaining if nothing else. But it will also give you guys some insight into how our brains work. as well, which I'm a little worried about. I'm not going to lie.

But before we get to that, guys, listen, oh my goodness, man. I feel like, I feel like we're just saying this every episode now. But it's true freaking every episode now because we had a ton of signups last week. And then we have a bunch of signups this week for people that have just decided, you know what, dude, I am going to support this podcast. Guys, I say this all the time, but I really do want to just, it is, we've been doing this podcast a long time. five plus years now we have had our ups and downs you know we've gone through people having to leave the podcast uh you know questioning the future of this podcast things like that um you know anything worthwhile it takes effort and it takes you know some blood sweat and tears right and so you know as much as we love hanging out as much as we love talking video games it's not always easy man there are days where we get home from work we're worn out and then it's like we have to record for three hours kind of thing you know and that's not to say it's not a it's not like a pity story but it's more to say the response from the listeners and from everybody that has tuned into this podcast,

from the reviews that we get to the support that people give this show. It honestly, it kind of like, and this is weird for me, but it leaves me speechless sometimes to go like, I can't believe that there's this many awesome people out there that care about us being stupid and talking video games. And it's like we pour our hearts and souls into this, but to have people go like, we see you guys. like we see you bros, you know what I mean? It is like honestly emotional for me at times. And I know it is for you, Ryan. I know it is for Ace as well because we talk about this stuff behind the scenes all the time.

It's just, it's honestly like, it's stunning. So thank you to everybody out there. It really is incredible. We are just left humbled and odd by it. So thank you everybody. Yeah. And then Ryan, speaking of reviews, I think you've got a review for us, right? I do.

They were on that one. Continuing on. I loved video games growing up, fell out of them in my 20s and early 30s, and I have dabbled back into them on and off for the past five years. This podcast brings me into a community that feels like chicken noodle soup for a child, and I am deep down at heart, or the child I am deep down at heart. I have two small children and my wife and we both work full time. Life is crazy, and I barely play more than a few hours a week.

So while I don't play much, listening to the joy and pleasure Josh Ace and Ryan Express about gaming, gives me those feelings too. Yes. I love it. I love it. The reviews lately have been nuts. I mean, they have been incredible as well, except for the couple people who left us a four-star review and said,

cover this game. And it's like, come on, if you want us to cover a game, you better at least give us a five-star review. I can guarantee you right now, you leave us a four-star review and tell us to cover a game. We ain't covered it. We ain't covered in that game. We ain't scroll.

No, we've got priorities around here, people. But we can be bought with five-star reviews. There you go. There you go. I love that review so much because I know personally I am, you know, Ace doesn't have kids right now. Josh, your kids are a lot older. So I really connect with this one. I got a daughter who's 17.

My son is almost 10. And I know the chaos. I run a business. And so the chaos of life, it's hard to get in video game time. It's hard to play like you used to when you were a kid. So having something to connect with. And that's what we're trying to do here. Like, just make a world in a community.

that people can all just feel like they did when they were kids and play games and just laugh and have fun and and uh i'm glad we're doing that yeah yeah it's what it's about i like i get the absolute privilege and joy to play games with my kids dude and they smoke me now you know what i mean but like that's like that's an awesome like dad moment to be like i get to do this hobby that i love with the people that i love at the same time and it doesn't it doesn't get better than that so all right uh all right guys You guys ready to get to this, this. So here, this is how this is going to work. We think.

We don't really know, man. Anybody that's been listening to the show for a while, no. I was like, we try some stuff, man. One of us is going to throw out a word. As long as it's not a two-liter he's got next to him there. Dude, look at Ace getting better. He's drinking out of a 20-ounce, man. Look at that. you know. Now that's because he had to do a lot of driving today. So I'm guessing that 20 ounce came from a game from a gas station. Yeah, exactly. Exactly. We know you. A's. All right. I'll tell you what. Yeah. Hades, you know, sometimes you play this game with yourself too. And I don't know why. Maybe it's just because it's the best. But like anytime I think rogue like Hades is the first word that comes to mine for me. So, all right, Ryan. Give us a word, buddy. T-bag.

Halo. Get wrecked. Halo did start the, yeah. Tebag? I immediately think it has to have to. I'm like, wait, did Ryan really just start with T-Bet? Of course. That's got to be the first one.

He definitely did. Get Racked is technically one word, too, right? No, that's fair. That's totally fair. I don't know. Listen, we don't make the rules here. It's literally the first thing that comes to mind. And if it's the title of a game, we're just calling that one word.

around here? Because I'm doing it's playing Overwatch with Josh. Anyone who's played Overwatch with Josh. That's one game. It doesn't matter.

There's a reason it's my favorite, Josh, is because you're a salty, Josh. You go through what I've been through in Overwatch over the last decade, and you'd be salty too. I've never watched somebody

like get so angry in real time and then just I can see him fuming and then start and I can watch it start to like churn up and then he just starts to like on install and he just starts the chaos in there I've died 13 times guys I'm going to rage quit right now if someone did start healing me ace

Oh I'm sorry you went behind the wall I don't want to blame you during the game but I fully blame you Oh okay 13 times and everybody else had like five deaths and I'm like well somebody's obviously not getting healed around here everybody else is getting healed I don't just I don't just die there he goes that's what it is

salty I can I can taste it through the screen dang it don't you hate when your friends know you also when we're right one game I'm super nice in every other game really really for sure as long as a single player salty and rivals too

is such a broad term. Like I didn't say PlayStation 2. No, no. I just said PlayStation. The entire discography. Right. Exactly. And so it's like Crash Bandicoot for Ace and the Metal Gear Solid for Ryan and God of War for me. It's funny because it's like these are like the franchises that we just associate with the company in general. Which is crazy because Crash Bandicoot's owned by Microsoft now. Yeah. I don't. Guys, I have. I have. have never in my life played a Crash Banda Coot game. We got to fix that someday, man. Do you know that?

They look great. I like the whole run towards the screen idea and all that stuff. Oh, Crash Bandico was great. Yeah, I never. I think that was his name, Cortex, Dr. Cortex? Neocortex, yeah. Neo-Cortex, yeah. Yeah. Good stuff. All right, Brian, uh, you ready? You ready to give us a word? Ready? Okay. Land party. Fun. Friends.

Yeah. Ace is like, what the heck? He's like, what's enough? What's a land party? I had to think, man. I was like, oh, wait, I already used Halo. So let me ask, like, Ace, have you ever done

like a land party? No. More than two. No. No, man. I didn't have a console that wasn't a Nintendo until I moved out of my parents' house. Yeah.

That and there's not like a need. Like, the younger generation just doesn't, they don't get it. Well, I didn't play it online. And they're going to call us old boomers, but like, but like, There was nothing like sitting in a room with all of your friends all playing, you know,

no screen peeking, no this, no that and like all playing on the same game, laying together or bringing your computers together. It was a lot of work, but it all paid off. It was like the best four or five hours, six hours,

however long you stayed up that night before he fell asleep. Like it was, there was something about it. Games in person will always be more fun than, than any other option, like honestly. That's like couch co-ops. Oh, dude,

super smash bros with like a group of, people is such a blast. Oh my gosh. Everyone's sitting on the couch is like, stop doing that. Well, Ryan, even like for heavy rain. Yeah, heavy rain.

Just being together, like watching somebody play a single player game where you got to make hard choices was a freaking blast, dude. Yeah, that's great. All right. Indies. Indie.

What do you say? Indie. Indie. Oh, man. I don't. Really? My brain. My brain went immediately to

Hollow night. I don't want to say what my brain thought, dude. My brain said Hollow Night. I'm going to just say it because, listen, this is the agreement we weighed. I feel like an idiot, man. Oh, no. Like, I'm not lying, Ace, when you said in me, my brain went Anna Jones. That is a family feud moment. That is a name something that starts with pork.

That's what it thought. And then I was trying to think of something that might not be so stupid as just going into Jones, but yeah. Anna Jones is it on the board? Anna Jones is it on the board? That's not on the board. Listen, we promise to be honest. I tried to figure something else.

He said Indy. You're telling me your brain didn't go Indiana Jones? He went to Hollow Night. My brain thought Hollow Night, which is an indie. We, our brains apparently think differently, Ryan. because I remember that was the game I played the most where I looked over and it was the sunrise and I was like, oh crap. Oh, yeah. Oops. Yeah, before my son was born. I was like, oh, no. Hey, we've all been there. All right. KD.

Kill death. Kill death ratio. Call of duty. All right. Yeah, that's good. I feel like Call of Duty, that's like the moon. Yeah, I think that's. My KD's a 2.3.

That's so cool. But then it was like, that's how, yeah, that's the number one thing you associate was just freaking having quarters. All right. Dude, that's awesome. Well, okay, hold on. Yeah, go ahead. The psyche here is because, like, Josh grew up with the arcade more than any of us.

Like, and so his experience in that world would have. so many other draws on what he could pull from and then Ace have never really been to like that type of an arcade you you I've gone to arcade since then obviously but not in that world and so you both saying the same answer at the same time is just wild to me that's so cool as a kid quarters weren't money they were video games yeah like you did not care about the monetary value of a quarter all a quarter it was another was like I can play a video game This is like a ticket to play a game, you know. So it wasn't about which is 25 cents and I can spend it on something else.

Like, no, this was video games. This game is so fun. Yeah. Yeah, this is pretty good. All right, Ace. All right. All right. Mario.

Red Dead. Oh, all right. Yeah. Those are both very iconic. I like it. I don't even like Mario. I know. I mean, you're not wrong, dude.

He did just get in second movies. And it may be, yeah, it may be in your brain. because the movie, you know, and people were talking about it. I really don't like Mario, but I have to admit that he is freaking like the most iconic. He's the most iconic and Super Mario Wonder was really good. Yeah, well, I do like the 3D Mario. I like Mario Games. I just hate the character.

Yeah, I just hate the character in general. It is kind of a dumb character. Yeah. That's a hot take. Okay, here we go. I got another character for you guys. Okay. Renoir.

I don't know how you can do that boss theme. So the first thought that mine was cane. Kane is good. Yeah. Kane was good. I was just thinking about the boss fight in general. I was like, oh, it's a legendary boss fight. It's so good.

No, that, boy, the music. I was also thinking old. During that boss fight. Yeah. All right, Ryan, hit us with one. We're going to go with, this one's going to be a little bit old school. We're going to go with Windows XP. Dial-up?

AOL. Those are good. Yes. Those are so good. Oh, my gosh. I kind of went like Windows M-E, but, A lot of people probably don't remember Windows. I remember, I remember it, but I didn't use much.

Did Emmy, Emmy came before XP, right? I don't remember, honestly. I don't remember either. My brain was always, my brain went to reinstall. Reinstall. Reinstall. Having lime wire in that time, Napster and lime wire and all those, you didn't know what you were getting.

Oh, yeah. That thing might be labeled an MP3, but you, you download it. Every 15th download was like a, you know, well, we got a wipe it. Yeah, your computer's been corrupted. And you're like, oh, man. All right. All right, Ace. Endless.

That was like the god of war where they had, what was it, Bart and Homer? Right? Where they were playing and it just, it looks so stupid. I was like, people really spend their time doing this, huh? Yeah, people do silly things with their time, I guess.

the purple guy there's a guy there's a guy oh dude I do it all the time whenever I'm playing with Josh and cast like I'll miss like miss a character and I'm like that's Lucian's mortar I don't know they're wearing a weird skin

I can't tell And then we just look at the guy running away from Ace's dead body Yeah And then we're like, oh yeah, that guy Oh yeah, it was that one. Oh yeah, that's on Ron. All right, let's do, I'll tell you what, Let's do one more round, guys.

All right, one more, one more. Okay, here we go. Remakes. Bloodborne. I really want one. I really want a bloodborne remake. Mine went to Resident Evil. Yeah, Resident Evil.

Yeah, RE4 was sick. my initial like when I was doing this is just like lazy remakes or remasters remasters remasters are lazy like I said you know sometimes your brain just lumps them together yeah I guess that's fair yes but I'm just thinking some remakes let's be honest aren't very good either although we have had some pretty incredible remakes lately so every resin evil one hit us with another one

all right we're going to go with MMO EverQuest World of Warcraft Yep. Yeah. That's fair. Yeah. Mine goes to, I figure Josh would go to EverQuest or some variant of such. People don't understand how great EverQuest.

I remember, dude. That's what the first MMO I ever saw in my buddies, like, they had that split level with like the lower basement that was like a half basement. Yeah. And they had a computer room there and his parents were all super computer nerds. My parents weren't. And so I thought it was the coolest thing ever. And they had like high speed internet and they all played EverQuest.

And I was just sit and watch and I was like, wait, those are people? Yeah, it was mind-blowing. It sounds dumb now in hindsight, but, like, dude, at the time, it was the, like, the most incredible, like, video game ever. Like, to be able to interact and have it be permanent and how huge it was and all of that stuff. Yeah.

So you can talk about EverQuest again. It's been 0.5 seconds since Josh has mentioned EverQuest. I know. All right. Last one. Here we go. Rage. Overwatch.

I have never raged against the game so much, man. That works permanently because I was going to say Josh. Yeah. Apparently, I need to maybe rethink how I behave in Overwatch around Ryan. No, please go. I've gotten, I love it. Wait, okay, let's just go through this. I've gotten disappointing rage and what was the other one?

Salty. Salty. Salty. And you used me for all three of those. It's because I love you. I'm not playing Overwatch. You know what the thing is that they all tie into Overwatch. Overwatch, Josh is my favorite.

The things we love the most are the things that can hurt us the most, okay? Okay? You don't know what I've been through, Ryan. Okay? At first it was Overwatch. I had to pay $40 for it. And you could just, they didn't have character locks. Do you know what it's like to fight six Winston's?

No, you don't know what that's like, Ryan. Okay? And then they took Overwatch away and then they turned it in Overwatch too. and then Jeff left the game and then everything was locked behind no battle pass and now they're taking the two off of there and they're still calling it Overwatch

but nothing has changed. Like, I've been through a lot, okay? I can tell. You guys won't still play it every time. You're done right. Actually, we're playing tonight. So you guys want to play some tonight or? Yeah. That's Overwatch.

They've got cuckooly eyes for April Fool's. Come on. We have to play. Yeah. Oh, my God. Oh. Oh, man. Guys, this was for

fun. I'm not going to I don't know how it was for the listeners, but I had a good time, man. So we, uh,

we learned a little bit about ourselves. Uh, I realized that Ryan has, uh, thoughts about me that aren't as positive as I thought. No, they're all positive. They're all positive.

I'm pretty sure disappointing can not be seen in a positive light. No. He might have you on that. Okay, man. You got me on that one. Yeah, he has you on that one. I'll take salty.

That's at least okay. You know, for two out of three. you're very endearing. I love it. How is rage upon this? I've been no rage. I love when Josh, I can see it build up. And it makes me so excited when I see him start to build up.

And I'm like, I'm in my head, I think, how long is it going to be before he starts talking crap to everybody else? And then, like, within 10 seconds, he starts, I just hear his keyboard clickety-clack. And then he starts to just uninstall. What are you doing? You can try healing. This and that. Oh, man, it's so good.

It's the best. Yeah. I love it. No, I love it. I genuinely love it. It makes me so happy. Listen, I'm not arguing. I admit. You know, we know our flaws. There's no other game that is like that. I played a lot of games with you too, dude. And this is the only one I know, I know. I've seen make you feel this way. Rivals a little bit. Uh, because it's a similar type, but, but yeah, this one, Overwatch and you have that, that pedigree with it that makes you, oh man, it's my favorite. It's great. It's great. This is why you know you keep your friends close, man. All right. Let's go play. Yeah, I know. Let's go quick for it.
