Hello, fellow gamers, and welcome to the Video Gamers podcast.
You ever tried to make a top 10 list of your favorite games?
It's not as easy as you'd think.
But what if you made it even harder and took nostalgia out of the equation?
No ocarina of time, no Super Mario.
What if you could only pick games from the last five years?
Well, we'd love punishing ourselves,
and on this episode, we'll be talking about our top 10 games with one major restriction.
If you haven't played the games we're covering today,
you are assuredly missing out on some of the best of the best,
or in ACE's case, a bunch of Metroidvanias.
Before we get to these epic lists,
some introductions are in order.
I am your host, Josh, and joining me,
he was really excited until he realized he can't say Destiny 2,
and there's a good chance he's still making his list right this moment.
It's Ryan.
That's not what I was typing right now.
I swear.
Oh, sure.
I'm not at all.
Oh, I'm sorry.
I just rolled in from Vegas 30 minutes ago and I'm here to record for all these five people.
That's okay.
You're professional, Ryan.
And nobody falls you for coming up with your list on the spot, man.
That's okay.
And joining us, we've set the over under on how many Metroidvania's are on his list at four.
It's ace.
I wonder how badly you're going to lose.
that vet.
Ryan?
Ryan?
You want the over the under on
four Metroidvanias on Aces list?
I want the more than.
More than?
Okay.
I'm going to take.
I know he's got two.
He's got to have two on there.
So I'm going to take,
I'm going to take the less.
It's probably three.
The three and a half would be the line.
That would be the spicy line.
You're right.
Yeah.
You can tell Ryan's been in Vegas.
I may have bet a little bit on the Super Bowl yesterday.
You can tell we've got a little bit of betting on the mind right now.
So, guys, this is, this is an awesome episode.
I'm so excited about this.
We, what we wanted to do was we said, hey, you know, we haven't talked about our top 10 games of all time in a long time.
But then we went, I mean, a lot of people know what like the Mount Rushmore of games is.
So like, what if we make it harder?
And then we say, hey, let's do only games from the last decade, right?
And then we all came up with our list and then we kind of went, uh, yeah, that's still.
little too easy. So then it was like, okay, well, what if we force ourselves to only pick games from
like 2020 and newer? And then we went, oh, okay. And like this is hard enough now. And, you know,
and then the point of this is too, is kind of like what I said in the intro, if you have not
played the games that we are about to talk about, you are absolutely missing out on gaming
masterpieces. And guys, I got to say it, it is incredible to me.
how many people have not played some of the greats.
Like, I don't want to spoil too much,
but like one of our legendary supporters,
a new perk that we have for our legendary supporters,
is we hijack you.
So this is a really cool thing.
So this is kind of an announcement here,
but like we have changed some of our Patreon perks
to where with our legendary tier,
we talk to you about your game takes and what you like.
And then we pick a game for you to play.
And when you,
after you play that game,
we do a little mini episode with the listener that we release to our community to review the game and talk about the game.
It is a ton of fun.
We've done several of these already.
They go over like gangbusters.
And this is an awesome way to experience games that you would not have experienced otherwise.
Ryan, you picked a game for Bad Gamer Dad to play.
I passed that along since you were in Vegas.
And he was geeked out and then started playing it.
And then went like, oh my gosh, dude.
Like, oh my gosh.
And then I went, right?
And then he went, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait.
I can't tell you anymore about this.
And I said, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Don't tell anything else.
But like, play these games, people.
Play these games.
You were missing out, man.
Like, everybody should experience some of these games.
Dude, I actually real quick, I have a quick story.
Like my buddy, my good friend, Steve May, I've been gaming with him since I was a little kid.
I went to elementary school with them, and we've gone to school, and we've been friends all the way through, played hockey together and whatnot.
Like, he's been my gamer buddy through destiny and everything.
And I was talking, he ended up, he normally flies.
He ended up riding up with me this time to Vegas.
So we rode up and we rode back.
And we just chatted games the whole time.
So four hours in the car chatting games, which is awesome, by the way.
It was so cool.
But like, I'm talking to him.
And he's like, yeah, I haven't been able to play much and stuff.
And then I started talking.
And I was hitting all the real.
really must plays.
And I'm hitting like, God of War,
cyberpunk, you know, all these different games.
And he's like, no, I haven't tried that.
I haven't tried that.
I'm like, what are you doing?
If you're going to play anything,
there's certain games that are must,
must plays.
That is a, it's literal experience.
It'll change you almost.
And so it was cool to have a conversation.
And then we're doing this episode going over games
in the last five years that are like really,
really must plays that we love.
So I'm stoked, man.
Yeah. Yeah. So these will be our personal. So this is not a like a community. This is not a compilation. Like we each have our own individual lists of our top 10 games since 2020. Ryan, you mentioned God of War. It doesn't qualify. That came out in 2018. Red Hat Red Hat Red Hat Redemption 2 doesn't qualify. Came out in 2018. Destiny 2 came out in 2017. Like all these games we can't mention. So I think there's going to be games that people, you know, we are. I'm sure we're going to have some.
overlap on some of these, but I think there are going to be games where people go like, oh, man,
I really need to check that out or I forgot about that. And that's kind of the goal on this.
So before we get into that, guys, we have some people to thank. We had some new supporters of the
show sign up on Patreon. So a huge shout out to Beege, who comes and watches all our streams
with us, great member of the community, signed up, join the Discord. Yeah, you're awesome,
just instantly became a like an awesome member of the community.
Bej, we see you.
We appreciate you.
Thank you so much.
And then a rather new member of the community.
But once again, jumped in, started chatting with everybody, has found like that awesome
gaming home that we talk about all the time.
So a huge shout out to Yackley for your support as well.
Love seeing you in the chat every day.
You know, just like I said, has just been an awesome, you know, part of the community right
off the rip, man.
And then a big shout out to Dr. Joe Nasty, who signed up for rare status and then went,
you know what, guys, that ain't enough.
That ain't enough.
I'm going to upgrade to Epic.
So we got a new Epic supporter and Dr. Joe Nasty, who we have played games with.
We played High Guard with.
We've been having a lot of fun there.
So thank you to Beige, Yacquely, and Dr. Joe Nasty for supporting the show and to everybody else out there that supports.
We're humbled by it.
it keeps this podcast going so thank you and listen if you get a lot of enjoyment out of this pod
and you want to support the show there's a link in the episode description you can click that you can
sign up it only takes a couple minutes it's as little as five bucks a month we'll give you a shout
out on the show and a bunch of other perks there as well all right guys you ready to get into these lists
i'm ready to talk some amazing games man ace let's you know what i picked on you about your
metroivania so what the the other thing i will say is i did not do this in a like this is my number one
game.
Yeah, I don't have a list of
that's too hard, man.
And we're not,
we're not that big into,
you know, punishing ourselves.
So this is just top 10 in any random order.
So Ace,
hit us with your first Metroidvania.
Ace, what do you got?
You know what?
Just because you asked for it,
Inder Magnolia is on my list as absolutely a
plus play game for the last five years.
It is one, easily one of the best Metroidvania
as I've ever played.
This is the sequel, right?
To Ender Lilies, yes.
Ender Lillies is the first one.
and Enter Magnolia's the second one.
They're loosely connected,
they're loosely connected, but they're
not directly connected or anything.
Okay, so that was my next question for you, because
I have seen people that you have talked
into playing this that come back and go,
yo, dude, okay,
this game's awesome, dude.
So it's kind of like Ace knows what he's talking about when it
comes to Metroidvania's. Do you need
to play Ender Lilies to appreciate
Ender Magnolia? Absolutely not.
No. You don't need it. So if you were going
to say, hey, pick a game
off Aces list, Ender Magnolia, just
dive right in.
Drive right into Ender Magnolia.
You'll fall in love with the characters,
the art, the music, and the combat
especially. Probably like Red Dead,
Red Dead, too. It helps
to know a few things, but you don't have
to do it. Yeah, exactly. There's
like, you'll catch things that you wouldn't have noticed
otherwise, but like, it's
very loosely connected.
Okay, we can't make this to Ender
Magnolia episode as much as I know you would love that.
I already did that. But out of
all of the Metroidvanias that you love,
Love.
Like sell me, somebody that is mildly okay with some Metroidvania sometimes.
I'm so excited for those.
I'm so excited for those.
On what makes Endermagnolia so incredible over all the other Metroidvania's out there.
What makes Intermagnolia so incredible over every other Metroidvania is the gameplay is always evolving.
You're always getting new movement abilities, new spirits to mix up your build.
You can approach things at all sorts of different angles.
There's not one way to do things, and it's an open world so you can take on things at your own pace.
it has beautiful music, beautiful art,
and overall the stories of real tear-jurker, honestly.
Yeah.
Open world Metroidvania?
Yeah, it's open.
You can go whichever direction you want
as long as you got the movement abilities.
I mean, that's kind of a lot of them,
but the one thing that stood out to me with Enterlilies
that you gifted me at one point was that you don't fight.
Like these ghostly characters are fighting for you.
So that was a neat kind of, that was the neat take.
You take the damage, but you're not the,
one dealing the damage. Right.
You have to dodge with her little tiny
hit box.
Ryan, do you think he has Ender Lillies
on there too? It does
not count. It was too soon.
Do you think
Interlilies is honestly? I guess we'll find out later.
All right, Ryan, hit us with your first one, man.
Okay, let's see. I'm going to do a game that actually
I thoroughly enjoyed. This list was actually harder than
I thought to come up with
from the last five years, because
there was a lot of good
a lot of good games in the last five years
but I'm going to go with
Spider-Man 2
Marvel Spider-Man 2
it is really really
just all-out quality game
it is not an all-al-timer
but if we're going within the last five
years man
what an awesome experience
what an awesome game the gameplay is crisp
it's a beautiful world
flying through or not flying but like
swinging through New York City
is like nothing else.
They did such a good job developing this game.
It is clean, it is crisp.
The combat's awesome.
Stories, you know, it's mid, it's whatever.
It's, you know, but it's, there's a couple emotional parts.
But overall, I think just the gameplay and the ability to traverse through New York City
and the combat with all the characters and then the Venom section is just like nothing else I've ever played.
I want a standalone Venom game because it was.
So, so sick.
You don't even understand.
If you haven't played it, check it out.
The Venom section of Spider-Man 2 was like nothing else.
It was so cool.
But it's a really a genuinely quality-quality game.
Not an all-timer, but it's one that people should check out.
Does it do a lot to distinguish itself from the first game?
It's kind of almost a little bit of a carryover.
I think the ability to
switch some of the stuff
in the gameplay and then when you get to be
Venom and then some other parts of it
there is some differences
it's just mainly
probably more a finely tuned
Spider-Man one or Miles Morales
you know those which were awesome
I love the Miles game as well it is absolutely
fantastic I beat it like six times with my kid
he just keeps restarting it and he's like
dad help me and I'm like all right let's go
So they're both fantastic, but I think it's just a little bit more of a kind of continuation more than something completely different or revolutionary.
That's fair.
If it ain't broke, don't fix it, you know.
Well, something just popped in my head here because you got me to play Spider-Man.
Right?
But you told me, Josh, just start with Spider-Man remaster.
Don't play Spider-Man too.
So why did you tell me to play the original one, but not the second one?
The story is a continuation.
Yeah, it's continuation. I wanted you to start.
So you need to play the first Spider-Man.
I would know. I mean, it'll, I mean, who doesn't know Spider-Man's story, dude?
Like, you know the Spider-Man story.
Why'd you tell me to play the first one?
Well, because you want to experience it in the gameplay.
Like, I thought you were a gamer, bro. What do you mean?
Okay, I'm just asking, man.
I'm just asking you got Spider-Man 2 on your list.
You're like, Josh, play Spider-Man.
Like, you don't want me to have the good stuff, man?
Like, what's going on here?
I want that good.
Venom's too good for you, Josh.
Yeah, yeah.
You haven't earned it.
You have to earn venom, dude.
All right, that's fair. That's fair.
All right, my first one, I have, I'm going to assume one of you guys has this.
If you don't, you're both crazy.
But Astrobot.
Yeah, Astrobot, you know, man, what a game, dude.
The best 3D platformer that has come out since Super Mario World?
Ever, ever, like ever, ever?
Super Mario Odyssey.
What was the one on the Nintendo 64 with the castle?
Was that Super Mario World that I'm thinking of?
N64 with the castle is Mario 64.
Is that Mario 64?
Yeah.
World is a 2D platformer with Yoshi.
Okay.
Then it's, I'm thinking, I'm thinking Mario 64.
Yeah, you're thinking of Mario 64.
To me, that's like the other like goaded, like 3D platform.
Yeah, for sure.
Astrobot, it's darn near perfection, man.
Like that, we don't need to go real far in Astrobat.
Oh, yeah, we all know what Astrobot is.
Do either of you have Astrobot on your list?
I do.
It didn't quite make my top 10, actually.
I, really?
Yeah.
You played Astrobot.
I love it.
I absolutely love Astrobot.
It just doesn't quite make my top 10 for what I kind of enjoy.
Oh, I'm interested in your list now.
I was going to say all those Metroidvanians not going to ask you.
They took up the list like big time.
All right.
If you have not played Astrobot and you have a PS5, you are absolutely missing out.
I'll go so far as to say this.
If and when Astrobot releases on PC, I will 100% pick it up and play through it all over again.
It is that kind of game.
The only other game that I've ever done this in my entire life.
was God of War and God of War Ragnarok,
where I played it on PS5,
and then I bought it on PC and actually played through the whole game again.
I will 100% do that when Astrobot comes to PC.
Yeah, it's an all time.
All right, Ace, we're back to you.
What's up next for you, buddy?
Balders Gate 3 is on my list.
Yeah, that's on my list.
So that is in my top 10 of the last of those since 2020.
Having never played one of these kind of games before,
absolutely loved it.
The world, the detail, the characters.
You can do anything in Baldur's Gate 3.
Like, genuinely, the sky's the limit.
Unless you know, you just roll real bad.
But I absolutely love Balders Gate 3.
It's one of the best CRPG games I think I've ever played.
And I am a huge fan of CRPGs.
For people that don't know that term, it's a computer role-playing game.
These are your much more in-depth, kind of longer.
They're usually turn-based combat, massive worlds.
These are the games you put 100 hours into.
Balders Gate 3 is no exception there.
Divinity Original Sin 2 is the precursor to Baldur's Gate 3.
That's another top CRPG for me.
If you love Balders Gate 3 and you haven't played Divinity Original Sin 2, you're missing out.
Keep your eyes on Larry.
Dude, you, anytime you can, you put up Dust 2 for sure.
You know why?
Look at the people in our community and I shout out to Cecilia.
You know, because they're like, dude, the divinity is so good.
And it's like all those people love Balders Gate 3
But then they don't realize the game that came before that is freaking just as good, man
Yeah, I have it.
I haven't started it.
Yeah, Baldur's Gate 3 amazing.
I tried to play it again with a buddy and just couldn't get back into it.
The multiplayer's weird.
I'm not super huge on that.
It's fine.
I don't like a game like that I don't want to rely on somebody else's choices because it like my brain, it's my world, right?
Like it's my world.
Yeah, I get that.
That's fair.
That's fair.
And then when somebody else is like, well,
I did this and then I'm like, well, that's not what I would have done.
And then I don't know, I don't like it.
I'd rather play by myself.
Where the club at?
All right, Ryan, what's up next for you?
I want to go to a game that we've talked about quite a bit.
And I'm sure, you know, if you've been listening in the last few years, we've talked about a lot
of these games quite a bit.
But this one is a beautiful, absolutely amazing world, something that a lot of people have
known from their childhood.
I'm going with Hoggworth's legacy.
Oh, on my list.
And what a pick, dude.
I don't play that one.
It's one that, dude, if you had Ace, I know, I know.
You haven't played Hogwarts Legacy Ace?
I didn't grow up with Harry Potter, man.
I didn't even.
You don't need to grow up with Harry Potter, man.
It is not a Metroids.
Download it.
Don't lie to me.
Just download, once he downloads it, then he'll be hooked in.
I want to touch on what Ace said, because there are so many people out there that go,
I'm not a Harry Potter fan.
you don't have to be a Harry Potter fan
to enjoy Hogwarts Legacy.
The game stands on its own.
If you are a mild fan of Harry Potter like I am,
it is awesome.
And if you are a huge fan of Harry Potter,
it's even more awesome.
But don't think that you need to be a fan of the books
or the movies to appreciate Hogwarts Legacy.
It's a masterful game, dude.
I am with you, Ryan.
It is on my list in my top 10.
That is one of the games that caught me most off guard,
where we were really kind of like,
I don't know what to expect,
started playing it.
Two hours in, I'm like,
dude, I think this game might be really,
really good.
10 hours in,
I'm like,
dude,
this game is incredible, man.
Like,
one of the few games
that I rolled credits on too.
So there you go.
That says something.
That says a lot for Josh.
It does.
It's that good,
dude.
Don't do not sleep on Hogwarts legacy people.
The crazy thing is,
didn't they give that away
during the epic games?
I think I'd play this.
I claimed it for free.
There you go, dude.
You got no excuse then.
Dude, well, he's got, we've got Mugenics out today.
I've got way too much to play.
That's a good game to play, though.
We're going to make you play Hogwarts Legacy Ace because that game, it's really good.
I want a Percy Jackson game like that.
That's all I'll say.
That's what I grew up with.
Okay, I can see that.
That'd be good, too.
So, all right, listen, we're going to take a quick break, and then we'll be back with my next pick on my list.
We'll be right back after this break.
All right.
We're back.
We're going over our personal top 10 games since 2020 making things difficult on ourselves.
I'm just going to throw this one out there.
One of my favorite games of all time,
cyberpunk 2077.
If you can get past the disaster of release that cyberpunk 27 was,
this game now is one of the greatest games I've ever experienced in my lifetime.
Like that is,
I'm not trying to hype this game up.
It is that good, guys.
Do either of you have cyberpunk on your list?
I do. I do. And this actually, I talked about this during, I think during the pre-show too, I said that I was talking to my buddy on our road trip back from Vegas about games. And I said, dude, you got it. He never played cyberpunk. And I was like, and he goes, didn't it have like some, it was like a bad launch or something? I was like, oh yeah. It was terrible. But I'm like, it is, it is an all-timer now. It's a must play. And then it has one of the best of all-time DLCs that you have to. Phantom Liberty. It was terrible. It's.
is one of the best ever.
I got to get to the DLC.
Ever that you can play.
So, so, yeah, definitely good pick, Josh.
That was on my list as well.
All-timer.
Knight City is one of the best gaming worlds I think I've ever seen.
The characters, the story.
It's just, it's honestly, it's almost a perfect game, like in so many ways,
especially now.
Like, you couldn't say that back then, but years, years later after it's released,
they have perfected this thing.
If you haven't played cyberpunk 2077, like this game,
games up there with like Red Dead and God of War and like you need to play cyberpunk plain and
simple so all right ace back to you what do you got oh man I got the best from software game out
there don't at me Eldon ring baby. Eldon ring is a top 10 game for me absolutely on my list and I
agree with you ace I think that from soft took everything that they learned over the years from the
dark souls and demon souls and all that and they put it together in the most perfect package
imaginable.
I can't believe
that Ryan hasn't played this game.
We gotta get Ryan
to play Eldon Ring with us.
I played Eldon Ring.
It was just Night Rain.
Yeah, it was Night Rain.
Yeah, no, no.
Not quite the same thing.
We will get Ryan to play Eldon Ring
whether it's us watching
or playing the co-op mode,
which I think he might enjoy a little bit more
at least to get started on it.
Eldon Ring is an all-timer for me as well.
It's on my list.
If you haven't played it.
So many people are,
put off by the oh it's difficult oh it's a hard game i hear people say it's really really hard it's
really really difficult it is but this game goes so far beyond that because it just gives you the
freedom to do whatever the heck you want to do so if you run into a part that's difficult which
you will go explore somewhere else go explore somewhere else i don't know that i've seen a more
fleshed out world where exploration rewards you with just insane things man if you haven't played
elden ring don't be put off by the oh it's hard go play it and
And listen, I'm going to go so far as to say, don't fight the knight on the horse right when you first come out into the world.
That is a trap.
I know a lot of people that think that, like, you have to fight that guy.
No, they're trolling you.
Don't fight that guy.
We'll play the rest of the game first.
But Josh, if he could bleed, he can die.
Yeah, dude, I threw myself at that guy probably 30 times, dude.
I'm not going to lie because you guys know I'm a glutton for punishment.
And I was like, finally I went, I'm not supposed to fight.
Hey, there's only winners and quitters, dude.
That's all there is to it.
First time I played the game, I started as the prisoner class.
And all you get is a rapier and a staff.
So I was just like, here we go.
Oh, my gosh.
Eldon Ring, don't miss out on this.
Don't miss out on Elden Ring.
So many people in our community have said this isn't normally my kind of game.
I don't love Dark Souls.
And then they wind up absolutely gushing over Eldon Ring.
And then putting in hundreds of hours.
Shout out to Bobby, who recently dove in.
And then went up putting like 140 hours into it.
to this game in like over the span of like two weeks and then we were like bro that's what this game does to you man
man he cleared the entire game plus the dlc in that time oh my gosh it was awesome i loved seeing it
it's that good it will it will suck you in big time so all right elder ring for ace on my list as well
ryan what's up next for you uh for me i'm going to go with one that uh we love and it holds a special
place in our heart not only for the gameplay but for the experience and all that we uh explored
And yeah, Josh has got it right now.
If you're not watching the video, if you're not watching the video, you should be.
For super earth, I'm going with Hell Divers too, baby.
Instantly, I mean, I got almost 200 hours in that game.
We fell off a little bit because we got a million games to play.
But that was one of the most amazing experiences.
And one of the just genuinely fun times playing an awesome game.
It was so good.
No matter who you hopped in with, it was chaos.
it was laughter, it was stress and tension,
it was everything you could imagine or want in a, in a game like that.
And I just, it's, it's got to be up there for me within the last few years of one of the best
experiences and the best games I've played.
Yeah, it was a good time.
Also on my list.
Yeah, how nice.
I hopped into it with Alexi, like not even a few days ago and they added a chainsaw.
So I just, I picked up the chainsaw, just chased my teammates around.
there is there is a friendly fire so that's also another layer of fun there there i'll be honest i don't
know that there's been another game like hell divers too where the excitement level and the gaming
community came together like that like dude when you when you were waiting for your buddies to get on
and then your squad would get full and you knew it was time to go like dude the excitement of like
just everybody stepping into their pod and like let's go it was amazing oh then the music and the
Up and down and it was
Hell Divers 2 is absolutely on my list as well.
You were just an action movie is all it was.
You were just a cool action, goofy action movie.
It was the best.
Oh, man.
Just like Toxic Commando is going to be.
Yeah.
Okay.
So I was going to say if toxic Commando is 80% of what Hell Divers 2 was,
I will be over the moon, dude.
Over the moon about that.
So I'm hopeful.
I'm really hopeful.
Guys, I love video games.
I love video games.
I love video games.
something down. All right. I'm going to get this one out of the way real quick because we have beat this one into the ground.
Expedition 33. It's an all-timer for me. It's on my top 10 list. There's very few games that have done what Expedition 33 has to my game your nerdiness and memory. And I wish I could play it again for the first time. If you haven't played Expedition 33, I'm just going to, I sound like a broken record. You're missing out completely. Even for people that don't love turn-based combat, we have seen a lot of people say I don't love turn-based combat. I don't love turn-based combat.
combat, but Expedition 33 made me love the game anyway.
So there you go.
Yeah.
All right.
Ace up.
What's up next for you?
Resident Evil Village is on my list for top.
I almost put that in that almost made me list.
I love Resident Evil Village.
It is the perfect blend of just body horror and action.
Plus, I know a lot of people don't like Ethan Winters as a protagonist.
I think he's hilarious.
Personally, you've thrown an every man into the worst situation possible.
He's lost half his hand and his daughter's been kidnapped.
And the man's just toting a gun killing these gods, basically.
Spoilers, Ace.
Gosh, again.
If you had to play at the Resident Evil Village, it's your own darned.
We're going to just put a warning.
First on parent, now on this.
Like, come on, Ace.
I didn't say if he wins or not.
Poor Ace.
Ace got flack on one comment on the care thing.
And then he was like, I didn't spoil.
Like, I warned people.
And we were like, Ace, you did everything.
It's fine, you know.
Oh, no, I've got a flack a few times now.
Aces isn't 100% callous from the internet yet, so he still takes a little bit of that.
It's cute.
It's Little Aces.
Oh, come on.
I am not a Pokemon.
He's still building up those calluses in life.
Life hasn't beat them down yet.
You'll develop them, buddy.
It's okay.
Saying I'm cute while I'm talking about Resident Evil Village is crazy.
I loved Village.
I really hope Requiem captures some of what Village had to it.
I really enjoyed Village, dude.
Like, I really did.
I am very optimistic about Requiem.
I do wonder a little bit about how they have the two varieties of gameplay,
and I wonder how that's going to mix.
Because part of me goes, like, am I going to love one part but not love the other part?
And then it's going to be like, well, I want to go back to that part.
You know, but we'll see.
I have very high expectations for it.
I'm also excited for the fact they said you could swap between third and first person.
so that's cool. That's cool to me.
That's super cool.
I think I'd always take first person.
In Resident Evil, it kind of depends.
I like the third person.
I'm the third person in Resident Evil.
Are you kidding me?
I want to see around the corners and I need, I'm scared, dude.
Are you kidding me?
Yeah, you're a chicken.
Yeah, I know.
What's up next for you?
I am going to go with the one, the only death can have me when it earns me.
Got a war red.
God of War Ragnarok.
The ultimate, it is, it is, again, another game I was explaining to my buddy.
Like, it is not the first one, the first reboot, but it is so stinking good.
Like, the whole gameplay, the story, the way you progress, and then it's not as deep,
but it's still an amazing experience.
It is an all-timer.
If you have not played this series, you have to check it out.
God of War Ragnarok is very, very amazing.
And then the after one, what is it, the Valhalla that you can play out of the.
Yeah, the DLC.
Yeah, the DLC.
It's the road lake.
It's the road lake.
It was so sweet.
And they just gave that away for free.
They're like, yo, you like this game?
How about this?
And they're just like, Oprah just throwing like, you get that holla, you get Valha.
And they're just throwing it to everybody.
It was so amazing.
Valhalla's amazing.
It is an all-timer within the last five years.
Absolutely.
And I freaking love it.
So, Ryan, how much did you love riding through the swamp with Agrobota?
Oh, don't know.
Don't even bring that up.
So here, this is, Ace, I'm glad you brought that up because I was going to make this analogy.
God of War 2018 is Infinity War.
Yeah.
It is iconic.
It is every, it blew everybody's mind.
People had no idea it was going to be as good as it was, it wound up being.
Ragnarok is end game where it's grander and bigger, but not quite as good.
Didn't hit as hard.
Like, the scale of it is improved.
The combat's improved.
it is on a grand.
That's just what I'm going to use.
Like,
you know,
it's a bigger game,
but yet it lacks some of that magic.
It's the buildup, man.
It's the buildup.
It's the original.
It's the buildup of the original.
Like the,
oh,
I mean,
I'm,
I am probably one of the most more than anybody of origin story.
I,
I,
my favorite,
even though I know better films exist,
I love the beginnings because I love the origin story.
So the buildup of the first god of war,
like,
or the reboot or whatever.
like it makes such a difference between Ragnarok that it makes that so much better.
But man, Ragnarok was still such a top tier game, dude.
It's like a 1A1.
Yeah.
If you didn't have the first one, it was just a standalone, like it's all timer for sure.
Like it's such a good game, dude.
Yeah.
That's fair.
It's on my list as well.
So that's another one that we had overlap.
We didn't have a little bit crossover for sure.
Yeah.
All right.
Well, guys, this wouldn't be a top 10 for me if I didn't mention one of my favorite games.
of all time. I have beaten this game four different times on every difficulty level. It is
literally the game that is perfection for my gamer brain and what I want out of a game. It is a
co-op looter shooter with an insane amount of builds, loot, incredible graphics and sound, extremely
challenging boss fights, beautiful worlds. It's got everything gamer Josh could want, and that is a
game called Remnant 2. I have hyped it on this podcast a gazillion times. I'm going to hype it up right here
once again.
If you have not played Remnant 2 and you have buddies to play with because again, it is a co-op
shooter.
If you have ever wanted Dark Souls with guns, this is it.
And it could not be more beautiful.
It could not be more well made and developed.
The boss fights in this game are some of the best boss fights I have ever seen in gaming, ever.
The discovery and the classes and the loot that you can get are second to none.
I'll leave it there because Ryan's starting to laugh and pick on me.
The blocks are coming.
The blocks are coming.
No, no, no, that's it.
That's it.
That's it.
Just play it.
You were thinking of that.
I was thinking of when I ran face first into the saw.
Yeah.
Oh, yeah.
Little room, the tunnel room.
Lira.
I mean, but that's a good thing.
Like, even the dungeons where it's like there's trap rooms and you got to navigate
through traps as a team and stuff like that.
What a game, dude.
I freaking love Remnant 2.
I will say, I absolutely love.
my gameplay with you guys on that.
If I had more time, it probably
would be on my list. I just don't have
enough time to like really
anchor it in, but it is
absolutely solid game. So if you haven't played
it, check it out. Yeah.
All right. Ace, you're up next.
I have to bring it up.
It's Hades 2, man. Hades 2
is the quintessential
best rogue like I have ever played.
Hands down. Like, there's no
argument. I don't disagree with you.
Yeah. It's, I hate to use the word
perfection, but,
But for a rogue-like action-based, it's perfection, dude.
It really is.
There's not a flaw I can find with Hades 2.
Yep.
Hades 2 is actually number 11 on my list, believe it or not.
I cannot believe that.
I have one game left to talk about, and you'll see why.
But I was really, really torn between this one and Hades 2.
So, Ryan, what's up next for you?
I'm going to go with a game that not everybody likes,
but all my Nintendo people will absolutely love that I brought this up.
I am going to go with tears of the kingdom.
I think that they did something special with this game.
I love it.
I had a good time.
It was the first Zelda that I genuinely liked and had a fun time with in a long time.
So this one in the last few years was an all-timer for me.
What a turnaround story for you too, right?
Yeah.
I was not in it.
You were like me where it was like it's a great game, but it's just not really.
landing for me. Like, I mean, it's good. I'm not saying it's bad, but like, it's, this isn't like
the, the greatest thing to ever come about. And then you, you completely change course on that after
you played it with your son a lot longer. And then I was left alone going like, it's a good game.
This is, this is the thing is you have to like figure out how to play the game. It's like,
you know, you can't, well, one, you can't rush through it. And once you start to just explore
and you learn to craft and use all your abilities, it really changes how you play the game.
you don't, Josh, climb up a mountain and just, and just, you know, eat food and take, you know, supplements all the way up, you know, you figure out a way to get up there.
Yeah, I know it worked.
Is this what the hatred of climbing comes from?
That's where Josh's hatred of climbing comes from.
Maybe.
It's started here.
It's from Zelda.
Yeah, that's what it is.
Wow.
I never played Tears the Kingdom.
I got my fill of that style of Zelda from Breath of Wild.
I beat all.
Yeah, Breath of the Wild is.
based the same game
I don't know
we can't get into the breath of the wild
yeah we can't get into that
I get why it's on your list Ryan
and it is it is an incredible game
I would recommend it to
tears of the game
to those Breath of the Wild
but better
you have more options
and cooler things you can do
yeah
no
look at look at
look at Instagram
and just type in
and see all the things
you can build
we don't have time to argue
as much as I want to argue
I want to yell
I want to scream
I want to get bad
no
all right last one on my list
guys boy what a popular game
let's just see if you can guess this.
What is one of the most popular games in our community right now that people have been playing together?
Oh, most popular.
Wild.
Uh,
or wait.
No.
Were you going to say Wildgate?
I think we're still living in eight months in the past.
We're going to blame this on your Vegas trip, Ryan.
Because the wild game was.
I was thinking High Guard, because that's like the most recent one we've been playing.
But then my brain just said wild.
And I was like,
That's why he stopped.
And then I was like, oh, no, I already said it.
It's satisfactory.
Yeah.
Everybody is a large.
I know.
I knew that was going to be there.
Yeah.
To me, satisfactory is, dude, what's crazy is my buddy mad at work right next to me.
He's like, dude, I got so sucked into Satisfactory this weekend.
Yeah.
And it's like, because that's what happens.
The game is incredible, dude.
Yeah.
There is, I don't know that there's another game like Satisfactory that I've played.
Like, it is, it takes survival crafting and mixes it with the most.
satisfying factory progression, like management organization.
It's unbelievable.
And everybody that gets into it gets so sucked into satisfactory.
Yeah. It's like, it's telling for a game.
So I was like, dude, it came out fully this or last year.
I think last year.
Last year.
I finally came out of early access.
So I put it in my top 10 because it's unbelievably good.
Paul will get, or Josh will get so mad at me and Paul building.
He's like, this is, this is ridiculous.
disorganized and
Oh yeah you would just have stuff running everywhere
Oh yeah you would
Does it work?
Does it work?
It worked and I sure enjoyed playing satisfactory
That's that's for sure
Not when I would hop on leave
Come back two hours later
And you guys have done everything
Well that's on you ace
That's your fault so
And that ends my list
All right so what do we got
Ace you still got a couple more?
Yeah I'm just going to go ahead
And you want to just quick fire them real quick
Yeah I just want you to just go rapid fire
And we're going a little long here
Soes to Sushima is a
must. Oh, that's on mine too.
Yeah, Ghost Shishima. And I would also say
Liza P. Liza P is
absolutely a must play. Liza P is
phenomenal. I don't know if it's a top
10 for me, but it's up there, dude.
It's so good. It's probably
the second best. It is
the best indie Soulslike ever.
Yeah, in my opinion. I would agree.
Wow.
Yeah. So, Ryan,
you got any others on yours? I do.
I had a Ghost of Sushima as well.
I also have Last of Us Part 2.
I feel like that's appropriate or akin to kind of God of War, God of War, Ragnarok.
I feel the first one, I loved a lot more.
I felt a more bigger connection to the first, but the second was still great.
You know, it's a very, very, it's grander.
It's more epic.
It's grand.
It's more everything.
But it's just not, it doesn't have that same feel to it, but it's still amazing.
It's absolutely amazing.
I'm fresh off my Last of Us Two play through.
And I agree.
It's grander in so many ways, but it doesn't.
have that special
touch for that special mix
that little bit of magic
that the first one had
the origin story man
everybody should follow
me origin stories are the best
and then my other one
kingdom come deliverance too
yes that's a good one
that is that is uh right guy in jail
right got two flies hanging out in jail
all the time but what an awesome game
I have not enough hours
less than I would like
in this game because I know
I know that if I started back up
I will disappear and I may not
even be on the podcast anymore because there's so much to do in this game that I've never even
touched. You know, I know people that have 200 hours, 300 hours, and there's still more
content for you to get. There's just so much within this world and so much you can experience.
It is absolutely in all time in the last few years. That was on my honor. I had a couple honorable
mentions, Hades, two and King's Come Deliverance, too, were the two that I was really struggling with.
And I'm like, as long as we mention these, as long as we mentioned these, we got to mention them.
sure absolutely.
Yeah.
I hate two is a must.
All right.
Well, listen, there you go.
That is our personal top 10 lists of games since 2020.
I'll run down my list real quick.
I have Astrobot, Cyberpunk 27, Eldon Ring, Expedition 33, Baldersgate 3, Remnant 2, God
of War Ragnarok, Hell Divers 2, Satisfactory, and Hogwarts Legacy.
Ace, what do you got?
I've got Ender Magnolia, Hades 2, Eldon Ring, Resident Evil Village, Baldersgate
Ghost of Shima, Lies of P, uh-oh.
Lies of P, Expedition 33,
cyberpunk 27, and Remnant 2.
I have, for my top 10, I have Marvel Spider-Man 2,
Hogwarts Legacy, God of War Ragnarok,
cyberpunk 2077,
