fellow gamers and welcome to the video gamers podcast. As gamers, we've all got our top 10 lists,
and if you've ever looked at one, you probably see a lot of the same gray games on them. But what
happens when you carry it further? Will you see the same games across multiple top 20 lists,
top 30? Well, we're going to find out because on today's episode, we're covering the next five games
that come immediately after our top 10. Before we, we're going to find out because on today's episode, we're covering the next five games that come immediately
after our top 10.
Before we get to the games that almost made it,
some introductions are in order.
I am your host, Josh,
and joining me fresh from vacation
and rage baiting the world
by sitting in the sand with a blanket just inches away.
It's Ryan.
It was actually hilarious how many people commented on that.
Because you were rage baiting everybody.
No, I was in a chair.
And then like everybody left me, the whole family left me and I'm like, just leave the blanket because I was like, I would lay on it. And then I'd go back and sit in the chair in the shade and stuff. I was just, I wanted to just sit at the beach. Like, but everyone was like, why, why are you not on the blanket? Why are you sitting in the sand? Why? Everybody's got an opinion. I mean, it's, well, that you, you kind of broke our community there because it was literally you sitting in the sand with a blanket just right in front of you. Every one of them. They're like, why? Why? Yeah. And then we found out.
the number of people that truly hate sand.
So Anakin in our community
have a lot in common.
They're all Sith.
And joining us, a man who loves making
lists and jumped on the opportunity
to do this episode when it was suggested
by our community, he's the guy
that asked for homework in school.
It's Ace.
You make it sound so much worse than it is.
Well, I mean, to be fair,
Ryan and I tend to shy away from like topics that require a whole lot of research and thought and prep and stuff like that.
And then shout out to Damos.
I'm going to give him his dues because he's the one that said, hey, you guys should actually expand your list.
And I read it and I kind of just didn't say anything.
So I'm like, oh, that sounds so hard.
Like it was hard enough to come up with a top 10 list.
And then Ace is like, this is a wonderful idea.
Let's do that, Ace.
I'm in.
Okay.
Sorry.
I enjoy sharing my taste in video games with people.
I mean, we do too, but like Ace, we're trying to be lazy here, man.
All right.
How many of these five are going to be Indies, Josh?
Oh, that's the real question.
That's the real question.
That's all.
Look at them.
Look at his Smyrador.
They're not.
There's not that many Indies on there, right?
Ace, he's got to put the AAA somewhere.
Yeah.
And as long as they're not in his top 10, he's like, okay, you get the dregs.
Like, okay, here you go.
Get down there in that top.
Top 15, maybe that top 20.
Like Bloodborn, Infamous, and Eldon Ring aren't my top five.
All right.
Yeah, infamous is the weird one out of that.
So, uh, well,
hasn't played it.
Welcome in everybody to anybody that's new and just finding this show.
Thank you for giving us a chance and checking us out.
Uh, we are just some friends that have been playing video games our whole lives.
We love talking video games.
Uh, we love this kind of vibe of just you hanging out with your friends,
chatting, chatting games.
the dumb things that come up, you know, that kind of stuff,
talking recent news.
Hey, what's in your top 15 list, apparently?
Sometimes, you know, you got to do your homework.
But before we get to that, we do have a review,
and I'm going real slow so Ryan can remember and find the review.
No, I already have it up.
It's ready to go.
Look at this guy.
He's back from vacation.
He's fresh.
He's rested.
He's on his game.
So we're going to kick things off with a review.
What do you got for us, Ryan?
This is a five-star review from Links de Best.
It is titled,
Made a 9-year-old boy, love it.
And it reads as follows,
This is great.
I love your phasmophobia podcast, my fave.
That is a good one.
Listen, number one, thank you, links to best,
for taking the time to leave us a review.
And if a 9-year-old can take the time to leave us a review,
then what is your?
excuse out there people. If you haven't left
us a review yet, you just got
shown up by a nine year old. And if you
haven't seen us, trap Ace out of a
closet and get killed in
phasmophobia, you should check it
out because it is hilarious.
Oh, that might be one of my favorite clips
of all time. And also,
Ace forgot that we are family
friendly and Ace went the exact
opposite of family friendly. And it just cracks me up
every time I see that clip. And he's trying to be quiet
because of the ghost, but he's also like,
I was doing a bit of a whisper yelling for sure.
He was whisper yelling 100%.
And Josh and I are just dying laughing so hard.
Oh my gosh.
It was so good.
Yeah.
So yeah, that was an all-timer moment.
But also links to sounds way too often.
The best part is you reported you like into the closet for some reason.
And so the clip is you just like.
Oh, getting choked.
out right in front of us.
He just died right in front of us.
Yeah.
It wasn't like we just do you died out the hallway.
We got to witness you just getting wrecked by the ghost.
So yeah, listen, if you haven't left us a review yet and you've been listening for a while
or this is your first episode and you like what we do, think about leaving us a review.
It helps other gamers find the podcast, know that, you know, we like to say we don't suck.
And so thank you for doing that.
All right.
So, you know, I mentioned this.
Shout out to Damos for having this idea.
We recently did our top 10 games of all time.
You know, everybody's got one of those.
We've been seeing our community making their top 10 list.
So it's like, this is really cool to see.
Everybody has kind of a decent bit of variance.
Ace is a good example with Infamous on his top 10 list.
You know, Ace is like, why am I catching?
Man, you're in a bunch of shade of infamous all this time.
Like, it's not that bad of a game.
Like I never played it.
I don't like a game.
Apparently.
Like it's not that bad.
Like I wouldn't say it's a top 10, but like it's not that bad.
That's not the weirdest one I have in my top 10.
Yeah.
Well, I'm a little worried to see what Ace has in his top 15 now.
So we, you know what, but we agreed.
We went, you know what, and here's the thing, right?
Witcher 3, Red Dead 2, God of War, Eldon Ring, cyberpunk.
You know, you're going to see these same games mentioned over and over and over again.
To me of the same.
And a lot of people's.
Yep.
So it's like, so then.
What happens if you want to see a little bit more and not have the same like four or five games on everybody's top 10 list?
And we kind of went, dude, this actually makes a lot of sense.
So that is what we're going to do.
Now, because we're very chatty and we tend to talk too much.
We're only doing five games each.
So today is going to be the 11 through 15, but we have committed to doing a top 25.
So we're going to spread this out a little bit so you just don't get tired of hearing us talk about our lists.
but we have committed to going, hey, you know what,
we will actually each do our top 25 lists
and we'll just kind of space those out episode-wise
over the next month or so.
And that's where it ends.
It will not be going past 25.
Yeah, we're doing no top 50 people.
There will be no top 50.
There will be no top 100.
It ends at 25.
Well, hold on now.
Money, money can do some things.
Hold on.
Talks, ace.
Yeah, like, money talks.
Okay, maybe we'll go to 30.
That was, that was,
I don't know.
Ace just folds quick.
Like,
that was an instant.
Hey,
he's the one
that got us
into this mess
in the first place.
For free.
For free.
Oh, man.
All right,
so let's just jump in,
boys.
I mean,
I want to start off
with this.
How hard was it
for you guys
to come up
with the next five games?
Because, like,
I actually did not
have that hard of a time
with mine.
It wasn't that difficult,
all things considered,
obviously.
Ryan's shaking his head
It was monumental. It was so hard for me
Because like 11 to 20
Is all
Destiny 2 so close in my like
Frame of reference
Like it's destiny 2 when I play warlock
Destiny 2 when I play Guardian
Destiny 2 I don't even know all the classes
During this expansion
There's only three
It's Warlock
Titan Titan
Titan and Hunter
So
Anyways yeah
It was a little more difficult than probably for you guys, for me.
I will say my process on this was I just started actually listing like the next like 15 to 20 games that I was like, okay, well, this is a great game.
Like I love this game more than that game.
So I just kind of threw out probably 15 games that I knew that I absolutely loved.
And then I started trying to order those at that point and kind of going like, okay.
I think the hardest part when you look at any kind of top 10, top 15, top 25 list is how you address nostalgia in these lists.
Yeah.
Right.
Like this is the thing that at least I personally struggle with.
And I know a lot of gamers out there do where it's like, look, you know, Okina of Time, Majora's Mask, Golden Eye, right?
Like here's this.
Like I grew up playing Golden Eye with my buddies.
My memories of Golden Eye are fantastic.
But is Goldeneye really that good of a video game?
Like, you know what I?
I mean, like, at the time it was.
That's a good question.
So this is where I personally struggle is it's like, how do you balance the nostalgia and your memories of a time when you were playing a game versus like this game is actually kind of an all timer?
And that's where I personally struggle.
I don't know if you guys struggle with that.
But for me, that's the really hard part is to go like, hey, you know, I've mentioned this before, but like Final Fantasy 7, right?
Like the original Final Fantasy 7 broke the world.
It was the greatest RPG the world had ever seen.
And I remember putting hundreds of hours into this game.
But like in hindsight, nowadays, RPGs have come so far that it's like, well, is Final Fantasy
7 really like a top 15 game or a top 20 game or something like that?
So that's where it really starts to get difficult.
I'm just curious how you guys address that because I know for gamers out there because
we're going to ask people to comment, you know, and say, hey, what's your next?
What's your 11 through 15?
And I just wonder how people address that.
I addressed that with remakes.
Yeah.
But see, now I, okay, now that's fair, right?
But like, the Final Fantasy 7 remake is not the same as final.
Exactly.
Yeah.
That's crazy.
I tried to balance out, for me personally, I tried to balance out like what, what part is nostalgia and what part is just, you know, it's just a good game.
Like, I love Middle Year's Solid 1.
That was the first one I played
I played the demo
It hooked me as a little kid
I don't know why my parents let me play it
But they did
And I appreciate them for that
And then I
I played all the games in the series
And the rest of them are obviously better
They're better games
But you know that nostalgia of going back to that
You know it's so it's like a balancing act
You have to you have to take that nostalgia
it plays in a factor for sure for what it was for the time
but then what you have now and what the game mechanics are
and all that stuff so um it's going to be it's going to be a weird balancing act
I think more than anything definitely I'm literally changing my
oh here we go yeah I'm looking at what I'm looking at 15 what I did the same thing
Josh I'm like I have that I have I put like I went through and you know you like with the
with the stuff like I put like 25 30 games that I know are way up there for me and then I started
picking them out. I'm like, that's a good one. That's a good one. That's a good one. That's a good one.
And then I'm like, where do these rank? And then I started like kind of going from there. And so you just
kind of got to just like, you know, break it down and kind of go in tears of like chop this one out,
chop this one out. And it's hard because they're all so close. But it's like what I did personally is I was
like, would I rather play this or would I rather play that?
And then I was like, okay.
Okay, but like compared to Golden Eye, I'd rather play any game nowadays than Golden Eye.
Because GoldenEye sucks now.
You know?
Yeah.
That's exactly the point I was trying to make.
So all right.
Well, let's, that's enough beating around the bush here, boys.
Let's dive in.
Ace, let's start with you.
Oh, boy, how'd I know it was going to be me.
Now, do you guys want to go reverse order?
Should we go 15 through 11 or 11 through 15?
We can count it up 15 through 11
See what lines up with number 10
Yeah, let's do that
We'll just
We'll write them in order at the end
So yeah, right
What's number 15 for you then, Ace?
15 for me is Karen
I think Karen
Oh, yeah, really?
An amazing game
And it doesn't quite, you know,
crack the top 10.
It is, it's down there in 15
because it is a slower game
It's when you have to be in the mood for
And you have to be like
able to connect with
To really get with it
But I mean, even after they had this free
DLC, it could move higher
in my list if that DLC is really good.
Oh, that's a good point.
Yeah, no, that's, that's, that is, that is, man, that is such a good game.
It is, uh, it makes sense that it's in your list there.
It's definitely in my top kind of section.
It was on my list.
Um, but, wait, let me ask you this, Ryan, would Karen be in your top 30 games of all time?
Um, there's a good chance.
So, okay.
There's a good chance.
I didn't play Karen.
You didn't.
And I'm always fast.
by how well you guys regard
Karen. It's so good. It's not
recency bias is the crazy thing. It's like
It's not, it's just such a, you
build such a connection to the game.
Like there's, there's like a, it's like a feeling. It's a
vibe. It's like that's when you play the game
almost, you know, you are the game.
You kind of leave with a part of the game in you.
Yeah, yeah, absolutely. Like you feel like you're in that
world. You feel like you're part of it. And you're not in
like a VR or an immersive space.
like you're just playing the game, but it's, it does, it does do such a great job of making you feel like you are in that world.
It's very palpable.
Yeah.
I think a lot of games when you go through the hardship with the main character, and we see this time and time again, but it's like when you go through that hardship, you kind of form that bond with that character almost.
And it's like, that's where it lands.
And it's like, you remember it and stuff.
So, all right.
So that's at 15 for you, Ace is Karen.
And then Ryan, I'm not holding you to it because I know how it goes.
but Ryan's saying that it would be in a top 30 list for him at least.
So I got to play that game at some point, man.
He's got to get past the climbing part, you know?
Yeah, I know.
All right.
Well, I'll jump in here next because I literally just swap this with another game that I'm not going to mention right now.
But I was looking at number 15 and then I was looking at the game that I had just happened to list right under it.
And I was like, oh, I can't do that.
So number 15 for me, Street Fighter 2.
I knew this is going to be on your list somewhere.
Yeah.
Yeah.
I, you know, this is one where, again, this is a game that stands the test of time.
So when it comes to nostalgia, like, honestly, I don't think that applies to Street Fighter 2 because it's just still one of the best fighting games ever at that point.
But, you know, I literally just responded to somebody today that I think a shout out to gosh Josh games because I think it was saying that posted that.
But he was talking about which video game or arcade game would you walk up to first.
And it had Street Fighter 2 Championship Edition.
and I was like, dude, the hundreds of hours that I spent in the dark corner of a 7-Eleven playing Street Fighter 2 is like, if I found a quarter on the street, I would literally walk to the 7-Eleven and put it in Street Fighter.
So I have so much time playing this game.
I absolutely loved it.
It's my favorite fighting game of all time.
Again, the memories that I have of just standing in that 7-Eleven and playing that game are incredible.
I had to give it its dues.
It belongs in the top 15 for.
me. I'm not much of a
fighting game guy anymore.
Did play Street Fighter 6 fairly
recently, but the magic is just
not there for me quite so much anymore.
But Street Fighter 2 at 15 for me is
absolutely a lock.
That's completely fair. I mean, most people regard that as
the best fighting game of all times.
Yeah, well, they'd be right.
Is that what it is? I watched
Willie Wonka last night and he
bought a chocolate bar. So like
you're playing a game. Playing a game
is better than a chocolate bar, dude.
Dude, oh, absolutely.
Yeah.
Oh, yeah.
Yeah, back then.
Absolutely.
Found a quarter, you knew where that thing was going.
Exactly.
All right, Ryan, what do you have?
What's number 15 on your list, buddy?
So, do you guys want to know what one of the best of all-time shooters are?
Oh, all right.
Is it destined to it?
Oh, I think of where this is going.
It's maybe sold 16 million plus copies.
the peak stimulus players over 960,000 total hours played over 1.5 billion.
Steam all time peak, 465K.
It's got to be destined.
It's arc raiders.
Oh.
Yeah.
You guys missed out on that one.
Arc Raiders.
This one, it was, this is where it was hard because there's so many games within like this little sliver.
And I had so much fun with this game.
I think it's one of the best shooters ever.
I love it.
The time I had in the first two weeks of this game is one of the best experiences in gaming I've ever had.
Ever, far and away.
Fair enough.
Yeah.
I don't know that I've ever seen Ryan love a game like he's loved art.
You did.
And I was there for it because we were playing it all the time together.
And I just, the giddiness that Ryan was like, I'm playing.
I'm playing.
And he would like play without us.
And like if people would pop on.
But yeah, it's, I mean, dude, Arc Raiders is phenomenal game.
I do feel like the game's falling off.
But if you look at, again, we talked about nostalgia, which seems weird when it's a game that's still currently active.
You know what I mean?
But the heyday of Arc Raiders was honestly reminds me of like the heyday of PubG.
Like, I don't know if either one of you ever gotten to PubG when it was like had like three million concurrent players or something like that.
A little bit.
A little bit.
But like I was playing that with Paul and McKinney and Andy and some of them and Todd from the early days.
of this podcast and there was very little like that in existence.
And I feel like Arc Raiders was a big taste of like what PubG was back then to where
everybody in the world was playing it.
You just, you came home from work, you ate dinner real fast and then you hopped on to
play with the boys kind of thing.
Yeah, I definitely ruled the world for a little bit there for sure.
Oh, every, every streamer ever was doing, was doing Arcaders.
Like that's, that's how you know that it's like a popular, popular game.
do you have any interest in trying the pvee mode ryan um i actually do i just want to see what it is
like i i've i've seen some updates and some different things they've done like i'd be interested
to see what they've kind of made out of it um just to kind of feel it out like i haven't been
back in a while but but it's definitely give me um some interest i see people in our community
like going like they're trying it out but like i almost just want to preserve my memories does that
makes sense.
You know?
I'm almost like the,
that makes sense.
Absolutely.
Just let me have that heyday of Arc Raiders and I don't want to hop in and then
have that spoiled and be like, oh, this game's not what it used to be kind of thing.
So like there's a big part in it's like, I'll just, I'll just hold on to those memories.
I'll cherish you forever, our creators.
The memories of us not, totally not ratting.
Not riding.
We would not.
We would never, we would never, we would never.
Josh and I would never ever do that.
And there's never ever a video of us doing that.
Dude, the amount of cussing that somebody would do if you were ratting the extract is legendary.
That's only what I hear.
That's only what I hear.
So much worth it.
I'll tell you, I rat it sometimes.
And just for the, just for the reactions.
We had the best rat set up imaginable, dude.
It was so good.
I mean, we had the wall.
We had traps.
Like, it was, we had it down to perfection, dude.
Like, perfection was on the bottom.
I was up top.
We had mines everywhere.
They couldn't see us.
Just to death.
It was just death.
It was a true.
All right.
All right.
We got to take a break.
We got to take a break.
This is forever.
It's on the internet.
We're taking a...

All right, I'm scrubbing that last part
before we took the break, so nobody has any proof.
Anything said by the video game with podcasts, it's all satire
and does not.
This is all for entertainment purposes.
Ryan and I would never rat ever
for the sweet, sweet loot.
All right.
Really, guys?
Really?
I know, right?
All right, Ace, quick, move on.
What's your number 14?
My number 14 is a game called Firemlem Awakening.
This was when Fire emblem was...
Fire emblem mentioned here, huh?
Fiber.
Fibblimbemblum mention.
Yes.
The Fireman Awakening is when they brought Firemblem back.
Basically, it was its last Hail Mary to succeed as a franchise.
And boy, did it.
Because it brought with it a casual mode.
It brought together some characters that really stood out and really mattered to me.
It was one of my first tattoos I ever got was a symbol from this game.
Oh, really?
Yeah.
Okay.
Have you been dabbling in fortunes weave?
I know you were super excited about it.
I've not got to sit down to play any fortunes weave because I've been so busy.
This darn podcast, man.
I know, right?
I've been playing our other deep dive game, but I'm definitely going to sit down and play some fortunes weave as soon as I can.
I know you're excited about that.
I can't speak to Fire Emblem.
I just know it's beloved.
And honestly, being that it's a number 14 for you, it's got to be great.
I would be very curious if fortunes weave supplants.
What is it?
Would you just call it Awakenings?
Awakens.
Yeah.
Awakening's, yeah, okay.
All right.
Well, when you do get into Fortunes weave, let us know, Ace.
I'll let you know.
I'm very curious because it looks really good.
Yeah.
All right.
I wish I could talk more.
I know.
Nobody knows.
They go to go fireball.
But it's worth bringing up.
Fireable people out there like, yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
We go.
Right.
And I'm just like.
Time travel.
And moving on to 14.
Oh, man.
Sorry.
Sorry.
Fireable.
lovers. We just, Ryan and I just,
you know, we don't know. There's about three more.
There's three more for me to do that too with you guys
going, yep, well.
Yeah, all right.
This next game,
I've said this time and time again, this might be
one of the best games ever made in the
history of gaming. If you have somebody that's
not a gamer, this is the game
that you get them to play. Like, if
you're grandparents or you're like, hey, you've never played a video
game, grandma, grandpa, play this game.
What, it does,
can you guys think of a game that you would be like,
universally beloved
Candy crush.
About anybody could play.
Oh my gosh, Ryan.
All right.
This is going south.
It's portal two.
Tell me I'm wrong.
It's portal two.
Yeah, you're wrong.
I was just an Astrobot, but yeah, Portal 2 makes sense.
You're making your grandparents play Astrobot Ais?
They played Mario.
Come on.
Listen, Portal 2 is one of the most approachable,
easy to love video games out there,
and yet it does not matter your skill level.
it does not matter your age.
You can play Portal 2 and have an absolute blast.
It is a masterclass of game design.
I know I talk about the Witnesses being one of the best puzzle games ever made.
Portal 2, if you want to boil it down to being a puzzle game,
is easily the best puzzle game ever made in existence.
That's fair.
Yes, it does.
It's weird.
I don't really consider it a puzzle game.
And yes, I know it's puzzles,
but it's more like a co-op experience kind of thing with puzzles, in my opinion.
But like, it's one of the,
of the highest rate of games of all time.
Like I don't even know what the Metacritic for it is.
Like if you haven't played Portal 2, you are missing out on like one of the most iconic
video games ever made.
Like honestly ever made in the history of video games, people.
Don't think that this is a nostalgia thing.
This game holds up incredibly well.
Like it's insane how good it holds up.
Play Portal 2 if you have not.
But it is, there was no way I could go past the top 15 without having.
Portal 2 and given it its dues. So it's number 14 for me. Yeah, no, that's fair. Now, it's a crime
against gaming if you haven't played either of the portal games. Yeah, it really is. And I know
people go, I don't like puzzle games. It's not. It's a game that has puzzles in it,
but it's so much more than that, man. It becomes an experience.
It's not, it's not so much like solving a puzzle, but as, as so much as, like,
just experiencing what's going on. So, yeah. All right, Ryan, what's number 14 for you?
Well, death can have me
in a unsmart.
This is very glens.
God of War, Ragnarok.
I cannot.
I know I have God of War in the top 10,
but we cannot leave out God of War Ragnarok.
It is not as good as the original,
or I guess,
whatever the 2017.
The original of the remakes.
The original of the remakes.
Yeah.
The 18 different names you want to call it.
But it is so good.
I think it is an amazing game.
think that there's a lot of depth to it.
There's a lot of cool features that you get to discover within the game.
Freaking Odin and Thor and like all these crazy things.
It's amazing and I love it.
And it took over my life for about a month.
So yeah.
Yeah, I absolutely, absolutely love this game.
I'm going to spoil something because I agree with you.
The game that I literally swapped at the beginning of this.
episode for Street Fighter 2 was Ragnarok.
That's crazy. I was looking at Ragnarok and I'm with you. I love it so much and then I just
kind of went the amount of time I spent with Street Fighter 2, I have to give it. I have to give
it its dues. But like literally God of War Ragnarok is like 16 for me at this point.
So it's bigger. It's grander and it's a little less magical. And I think that's the
difference between it in 2018 is like that's why most people put God of War 2018 ahead of
Ragnarok, but like, if you're being critical,
Ragnarok is a better gameplay experience.
It's a much grander experience.
It's just lacking a touch of that magic.
But what a, what a freaking video.
And they had Valhalla, the DLC stuff.
Yeah, that was awesome.
It was, it was, it was, it was tough.
It was, it was very hard to do.
It was very hard.
It was very hard.
It was very hard. Yeah. Last fight.
All right. I love it, Ryan.
I'm, I'm here for that. I'm glad to see it making a,
getting a mention on this one. So, all right,
Ace, we're back to you. Number 13.
All right, so this one, number 13.
Someone actually called me out on this in our top
10 episodes, not having a game from
this franchise on my list. It's just because I
couldn't decide, like,
which one I would put there and, like, where it would
rank. And it doesn't quite
make the top 10, but at number 13,
I've got Kingdom Hearts 2.
Kingdom Arch 2 is genuinely
one of the best action games of all time.
So, two is the best
of the franchise so far? I would say 2 is the best of the
franchise currently. Do you think four is going to be better? I think four has potential to be better.
That's that's an optimist talking right there. What I love did you see the sparkling ace's eye when he
looks like the potentials there. Well just based on trailers, based on trailers alone, I'm seeing a lot more
the combat elements of two versus three. So it's like, yeah, it's that's helpful. Yeah, I know.
I know. That's why I said here I go. I'm going to go like oh for three. Dude, I love this because
Because, and honestly, I don't have anything against Kingdom Hearts.
I just don't know the franchise.
And it looks weird to me to combine, like, Disney, like, characters with other, like, Final Fantasy and stuff like that.
But, like, it's spoken of so highly that you can't, it's kind of hard to argue with.
Like, even as somebody that knows nothing about it, like, hearing people just love Kingdom Hearts makes me go, like, man, what I'm missing?
But here's the deal.
And I'm going to get a lot of flack for this because this is the same thing that,
The Pokemon fans are, like, they love Pokemon,
and they'll say all these crazy things about these Pokemon games,
the same way these Kingdom Hearts fans are about the Kingdom Hearts games.
Like, they love them.
And that's fine.
That's fine for you.
That doesn't mean it's good.
We have to get one every five years, if that, right?
Man, I'm just saying.
It's not like Pokemon.
I'm not saying, dude.
It's just, it is what it is, man.
Also, you would like Kingdom Hearts Josh just because of how challenging it can be.
Because Kingdom Hearts is home to some of the toughest bosses in video game history.
Like, genuinely.
Okay.
Well, I mean, I'm pretty sure we're going to be playing Kingdom Hearts 4 for this podcast.
Oh, boy.
I'm very excited.
Yeah, you guys are going to have fun with that for sure.
Oh, yeah.
You're going to be playing it too, Ryan.
We'll be playing too, buddy, boy.
Yeah, you're a man of the people, Ryan.
All right.
So Kingdom Hearts 2 for Ace at 13, right?
Yeah, specifically the final mix, but whatever.
mine you know this is a lot of people this is absolutely i mean honestly for a lot of people this is
their number one game of all time um if you look at any you know best games of all time list you'll
see this game ranked number one for a lot of people it's ok arena uh you know yeah the a arc arena
i caught that little hint there do it no you were like ah and it's a a arena a car oca arena
paul would have yelled at us so i know he would have um
I mean, this is again where does nostalgia come into play?
Is it going to be good?
We're going to find out people.
The remix's coming out real soon, man.
The more I see of the remake, the more excited I get because dang it looks really good, man.
Dang it looks really good.
It just comes out at a bad time, man.
I know so many people are excited for like World Warcraft forever.
Phantom Blade Zero releases a few days before and GTA6 releases like two weeks after.
So it's like, what are we doing?
What are we doing, Nintendo?
You couldn't just make this like a December 1st release and then like just
sell a gazillion copies for the holiday season?
Like, come on, man.
Those N64 Zeldas were just so good.
They really were.
I mean, dude, Major's Mask and Okina of Time are two of the best Nintendo experiences I think
I've ever had.
Like, in all honesty, it deserves its dues.
I know there were a lot of people like,
I can't believe it's not in your top 10 list.
I think honestly, if we're going, if we're throwing nostalgia out the window, it probably does deserve a spot in the top 10, but it's hard for me to balance that. And I admitted to that early. So I think I'm docking it just a little bit for the game's kind of old and it probably feels dated at this point. But number 13 for me, Ukraine of time. Ryan, what's yours?
Oh, all right. So would you kindly listen to my next game? I was wondering if this was going to be a little.
Would you kindly listen to my next game?
One of the best games ever to be made.
I'm going Biosex.
The original.
So good.
Bioshock.
I am in Rapture.
I am having a good time.
I am getting off sign crazy attacks and everything you could ever imagine.
I love this game.
I cannot imagine a world where I did not get to play this.
it was such an experience,
especially the end.
I don't know.
It's a long time.
We've spoiled this ending multiple times.
Can we have already given it up this moment of times?
You know, like the wood you kindly,
like it's such a crazy experience.
And the world that you live in.
And then it's always a throwback like the 30s,
40s, 50s.
Like all that world is such a cool thing.
And you go into it.
Um, there's nothing like the Bioshock game to me.
It was such an amazing thing.
Uh, the other ones are awesome.
Infantinence fantastic.
The second one was pretty good to, um, not as, not as good as the first and the
third series.
Yeah, I would think so.
Yeah, but it's still a good game.
It's still a good, but it's the worst.
It's still good, but it's the worst, which I mean, it's, and it's still a good game,
which shows like the series longevity and how great they are.
But, um, yeah, Bioshch.
original was
it's a master piece of games
it's one of the best games ever made
if you have not played it
it holds up
it absolutely check it out
I can't remember who and I'm not going to call them out
for a bad take but like somebody
was dabbling in it and saying this
gameplay just doesn't hold up they said I know everybody
says it does but I don't think it does
and it kind of caught me off guard
because I was like
Bioshock feels like one of those timeless
games to me like
yeah so I have to be
fair, I, you know, I didn't, I haven't played it in probably 10 years.
When did that game come out, man?
Oh gosh.
But it's been a while.
But dude, that experience of going down to Rapture, experiencing the big daddy's for the
first time, the little sisters and making that decision on whether you were going to get
the Adam from them or not, the twist at the end, the, the amount of player, like,
choice that you had and how you approach combat and stuff like that.
When did it come on?
2007.
2007, bud.
is that when you were born?
It's been almost 20 years.
It's been almost 20.
Yeah, dude. August 21st, 2007.
We're so old.
I know.
It came out exclusive to the Xbox 360.
Oh, my gosh.
And it was so good.
Good on the 360.
That's one of the reasons I had a 360.
You know, I miss that.
It's one of the reasons I borrowed my cousin's PlayStation era.
All right.
So, Ace, we're to number 12.
We're almost done these lists.
Guys, what's your number 12?
We're trucking.
We're actually trucking.
You'll actually have something to say about this one, Josh.
Number 12, I have Liza P.
Ooh, fantastic.
Best, hands down the best souls like game that wasn't made from, from software.
Yeah, exactly.
That's what we tell everyone.
This is the best souls like you can play that isn't made by From software for sure.
And especially with the DLC that came out later, Overture, that just cemented how good this game is.
People let me say, what if, what if Dark Souls had a good,
story, right? Like, that's what everyone, and that's like, that's Liza P. Yeah, that's basically Liza P.
I love the mechanic, though, of just being able to, like, swap your weapon blades and handles to get
different mechanics out of them and different, like, stats and moves. It's just so good. It's so cool.
The combat's fantastic. The story's great. The graphics are good. The boss fights are spectacular.
The level design is really good. There's quality of life stuff where you unlock shortcuts as you play
through. And it's a honestly, Liza P is is a phenomenal game.
And it does not surprise me.
For people who don't enjoy really hard souls likes.
So you dial it back.
Yeah, you can dial it back.
That's cool.
Yeah.
If you're having a lot of trouble with it, but you want to see the story, you can do that.
Good on you, Liza P.
Yeah.
Break the mold.
All right.
That's a great choice.
Yeah, that one's really good.
And made me realize that I don't even have it anywhere on my list and I need to fix that.
All right.
Number 12 for me, half light.
to.
Plain and simple,
this is another one of these games.
This is another one of these games that broke the world.
I was there for Half-Life.
I was there for Half-Life 2.
Half-Life 2 was the pinnacle.
I mean, you talk about games that had where the sequel was better than the original.
Half-Life 2 was this hands-down.
I mean, you know, does it hold up today?
Probably not.
I don't know.
But again, this is one of those where I'm just, does it?
Does it?
It does.
I don't know.
It does.
Okay.
Some parts are a little janky.
But it holds up.
But they were janky back then too.
And honestly, I kind of like the old school jank.
But yeah, Half-Life 2 was an all-timer.
Again, I think one of the best reviewed video games ever.
It was legendary.
It was groundbreaking when it came out.
The story, the gameplay, the world.
I mean, literally everything about Half-Life 2 was an absolute masterpiece of a game.
You've heard Ryan talk about it a dozen times.
You've heard me talk about it.
That's all you need to know.
It's at number 12 on my list.
So, all right, Ryan.
What's number 12 for you, buddy?
Oh, number 12 for me is a game that you had mentioned earlier on this episode,
but I do have over 1,800 hours.
Here it is.
I was wondering when this was going to get mentioned.
It was going to get mentioned at some point for sure.
This is one of, if not the best shooter ever made.
It is crisp.
It is clean.
May not have the best story or may not have the best other stuff,
but destiny
Destiny 2
however you want to clump them up
like it's it's the best dude
it is so absolutely amazing
I
I went to a little kind of like
quote unquote land party with my friends
we had some monitors set up and
my old group that I used to raid with
you know every week
and we played in instantly
I hadn't played for like a year or more
and instantly it like brought me back
And I felt like, man, this is so good.
So it's, it's one of those that just, it's, it's such a good game.
It is so, so good.
You keep going back to the Destiny well.
Yeah.
Oh, yeah.
You always talk about how crisp the gunplay is and you're like, this is one of the best shooters.
And dude, I, I can't disagree with you.
Like, I've, I probably have 20, 30 hours, maybe a little bit more into Destiny 2.
Like, I legit gave Destiny 2 like a pretty decent shot.
It's right up my alley, too.
I mean, you know, but it was just.
I had my issues with the game, but like, I will say this, gunplay wise.
It's so good.
Like movement wise, it's there, there's very few games like Destiny 2 out there, man.
Like honestly, they, they absolutely nailed what they set out to do on that.
You can talk about how they fell off and the bloat and that kind of thing all you want.
But like, at its core, I agree with you 100%.
Destiny 2 is probably one of the best shooters that we've ever seen from like a technical standpoint.
Yeah, absolutely.
And it makes sense, you know, they had to kind of like tank everything so that they can make marathon.
So, you know, which obviously is so much better.
Obviously.
It's like such a great.
It's doing a great job.
It's doing so.
I'm going to start calling Ryan the bungee bootlicker, man.
He's bought into this like, oh, we're sorry.
And it's all marathons for all people.
and we made a mistake and please give us money.
We're going to do a love letter to Destiny.
There you go, Ryan.
I like your hope.
You keep your hopium, Ryan.
Yeah, whatever.
I mean, honestly, it's such a good game, though, or was a good game.
It was.
Yeah, we'll see where things go.
All right. Ace, we're at the top, buddy.
This is the game that almost cracked our top 10 list, but not quite.
This is number 11.
It's number 11.
Honestly, I can see number 11 and 10 swapping every now and then just depending on how I'm feeling.
And it's just nostalgia is getting in the way for the other one.
But it's Resident Evil 2 remake.
This is our origins of Leon, the introduction of Claire Redfield.
I was wondering if a Resident Evil is going to show up here.
Yeah.
Resonable might show up a few times in this list.
I got a lot.
Yeah, that's what I, yeah.
But Resident Evil 2 remake is genuinely just such a good game.
Resident Evil 2 was already a great game.
Then they rebate it, gave you free cam, let you play as the story of Leon.
Leon and Claire again and it's still two
full-linked campaigns.
Genuinely, it's such a good game.
I love Resident Evil.
I don't remember Resident Evil, too.
Is that crazy?
You don't remember the introduction of Leon S. Kennedy?
Dude, I'm just saying, no, the game itself.
I know who Leon is, and I remember playing the original
Resident Evil.
Same.
I know I, I know I play two.
I'm with you, you know what I mean?
But like, if you asked me to pick out something in two that, like,
they blur together.
And I know that sounds terrible
And hey, I can blame it on getting old
You know, but like I don't remember
Resident Evil too.
Like, and I know that sounds crazy
But like, oh yeah, to is imagine the game
Limping and then running
Upstairs.
Hoping that I can find a green herb
And then limping and then running upstairs.
There is the hope to find
herbs.
Yeah.
And bullets.
Oh, thank goodness.
I'm so glad I searched that.
I recommend you guys just look up some like
gameplay or costumes just from the game
just to see how good.
it looks. It is such a good
looking horror game. And the zombies
look insane.
No, Resident Evil 2 is so. I know it's an
all-timer. And I know I played it. Like,
without a shadow of a doubt, I know I played this game.
I just don't. It's weird.
My memories of this game. It's trying to
solve the puzzles to get out without getting... Yeah, I
remember all that. Like, I know what the game is.
I just like, I don't, I don't have
like any kind of clear vivid memories of this.
Same. Dude, I, I, I remember
like, my mom would let me play Margar's
solid, but like, Resident Evil.
was like not one that I could have.
So like I remember playing it at like Friends houses, you know,
like in playing it over there, you know, because zombies are
doing that right.
That's supposed to be playing.
That's too scary, you know.
Yeah.
Don't tell my mom, dude.
All right.
I can play, but just don't tell my mom.
Tell her we were playing Mario or something.
Yeah.
We played Minecraft, okay?
All right.
Number 11 for me, I struggled with this one.
I knew this game belonged on my list somewhere.
I did shuffle it around a little bit.
And then I kind of went,
there's going to be people that probably don't understand this one.
But if you were around in the day when this game released and you played this game,
then you absolutely understand.
Unfortunately, this franchise also kind of went the way of the dodo because they just
couldn't recapture the magic.
But it is Deus X.
The original Deus X was the godfather of like the live action role, not live action,
but like the actual like role playing action RPG in a sense, right?
where you were first person, you were Adam Jensen,
you were a cybernetic dude with some really awesome abilities.
Player choice was everything in this game.
How you wanted to approach things mattered.
It was completely up to you.
You could get super creative.
You could stealth your way through.
You could hack your way through.
You could fight your way through.
You could talk your way through.
It was the quintessential pinnacle RPG from that like first person shooter perspective
in a way.
it's an absolute masterpiece of a game.
They were remaking it
and then I think they canceled the remake on this one.
I saw something recently.
Yeah.
Yeah, which just breaks my heart
because this game was unbelievably good.
I need you people in the comments,
you OG gamers,
to shout this out because like I said,
people that didn't get to experience it don't understand.
Like this was,
this is up,
I mean,
I have it ahead of Half Life too, guys.
Like,
that tells you how good this game
really was. It is one of the few games that I've replayed multiple times in my life because every
play through felt different. Absolutely incredible, incredible game. And I don't think we've had
anything quite like it since, in all honesty. I know they tried to continue this franchise and
they just kind of butchered it worse and worse each time, which breaks my heart. But man,
was it was a good, like, here's the way I can, the best way I can describe it is it was like the
cyberpunk back then. You know, without the crappy launch. Like, honestly.
Honestly, like that's honestly like and that's one reason that I got so unbelievably hyped for cyberpunk was because it was like this is what Deuce X is in the future.
And it did feel a little bit like that man.
Like I said, botched launch aside like that's, I put them like kind of in the same tier, man.
And that's honestly how good Deus X was.
So people that played it know there's a lot of people out there.
They're like, what the heck is this game?
And that breaks my heart a little bit because it's an all timer.
let it go dormant for 20 years and then bring it back like Capcom did on
honestly if I'm still alive dude I that would nothing would make me happier at that point
like just man yeah so all right Ryan bring us home buddy what's your number all right well
with a good Ryan fashion I'm going to give you two games because I'm swapping some things around
so wait wait a live on the show yeah live on the show we're gonna we're just goes to show you
how hard it is people this is what they have to
to deal with with me.
I can't, I can't stand
Overwatch being at 10 anymore.
It's got to be at 11.
So my number 11 game is Overwatch.
We've already heard how much
we love this. Okay. Okay. What am I putting
in that 10? What is, what is going to go there? What is going to
go there? What is going to swap and replace it? I'm going
with cyberpunk. Oh.
Oh, yeah. So I can't. I can't.
I can't. I couldn't know. Diablo 2 is already in my top 10.
Yeah, it's already in there. So it's already in there. So like, I could not
stand anymore
cyberpunk not being in there after
their I support this change horrible launch
I was I was very angry but I've gotten over it
I've I've calm down and now we're going to have it
up in the top 10 so cyberpunk 277 is
in my top 10 and then number 11 for me is
Overwatch which we've covered four bazillion times
yeah I think everyone knows what Overwatch is
mega tank if you need a tank
I'm your guy right here
bam you know one trick tank
yeah that's all I need he says tank
you only need one trick if you need a sigma
right yeah exactly yeah
Ryan's your guy yeah and if they swapped
to Ryan hard you better help break
I'll still kill it I'll still kill it I support
this change Ryan as much as I love Overwatch
like I a cyberpunk
it breaks my heart to see people
but it also breaks my heart to see people
that swore off cyberpunk
because of the launch like honestly
we see it all the time.
We see it in our community,
see it on social media.
And there's people that just went,
yeah, I know that game came out
and people were really angry at it.
And so I never touched it.
And it's like, oh, like you're missing out.
You've got to try you.
It's fair, though.
It's fair.
It's fair.
But like, you're missing out on one of the best video games.
What do you mean?
It's fair.
What does that even mean?
It's fair that people feel like,
you know, negative about something that screwed them over.
I mean, I feel that way about Clistow Protocol.
And I still have sworn off Colisto Protocol.
But also, if people started coming out and telling me
the Colistro Protocol was one of the best games ever made,
you bet your bottom I would be like,
okay, well, maybe I should give this game a try.
Calistow Protocol is like mid-Ded space.
I'm just saying, all the hate I had,
my heart would fly right out the window.
If people started going like, this is a top 10 game, people.
Like, this is a top 10 game of all time.
But they're not.
Which cyberpunk is.
Yeah, exactly.
Yeah.
So yeah.
I like cyberpunk?
I played cyberpunk?
I played cyberpunk.
I played cyber punk.
Okay.
The way he says that just bugs me too.
That's, yeah, I played it up to the point where I could romance Judy and then I moved on.
I like, I like put like 12 hours in.
I was, you, God, sometimes you're so stupid.
There's so much more, dude.
You have no idea.
Hey, I saw what I want.
I came to see.
All right.
Oh, no, dude.
Oh, shit.
Josh.
Should we tell them there's rats?
There's rats at the end?
There is, oh, there's really cool rats.
Ace, there's rats at the end.
It's so cool.
If I go through the whole game and there's no rats at the end, do you realize how negative?
No, there's totally rats.
There's the coolest rat ever.
Honestly, like, honestly, what are the coolest rats I've ever seen in a video game?
They like have hats and all kinds of stuff.
They've really, they've kept it.
It's like the big reveal for Bioshock.
I do need to play that eventually.
Dude, oh my gosh.
It's like one of the best DLCs ever.
I know it is.
I do need to get to that.
Well, yeah, so.
What do you mean you need to get to that?
You haven't got to the game.
What do you mean?
I've done playing the game.
I got someone's head off with a catana in slow motion.
That was cool enough.
Yeah, that was pretty sweet.
Wait until you get the spikes, dude.
You get the mantis blades.
Oh, I had the mantis blades.
They were cool.
Yeah.
All right.
All right.
You probably haven't done,
you probably haven't seen half the really cool stuff in that game.
Anyway, all right.
Okay, let's read our list.
We're going to, let's go through these one more time.
We'll read them from 11 to 15 this time.
So Ace, what is your 11 to 15?
11, we have Resident Evil 2 remake.
Then we have Lice of P at 12.
I specifically have the complete version because plus the DLC puts it at that 12 spot for me.
Kingdom Hearts 2, final mix at 13,
Fire Emblem Awakening at 14 and Cairn at 15.
Gosh, Karen's so good.
So good.
Okay, good.
All right.
Number 11 for me, Deuce X, 12, Half-Life 2, 13, Okina of Time, 14, Portean.
2 and 15 Street Fighter 2.
Do you remember
how we talked about nostalgia
at the beginning of the episode?
Apparently 11 through 15
is where all my nostalgia belongs.
Because I don't, like,
what's the newest game on this list?
These games are all 20 plus years old, man.
I know these days are good,
but like, this is my nostalgia section.
I didn't even realize until I was reading
them in order.
And then I was like, I don't have a game
from the last 20 years
in my 11 through 15, man.
Like, what is going on?
Hey, and I have one from this year.
They belong somewhere.
They belong somewhere.
And apparently this is where they belong, people.
Oh, man.
All right, Ryan, what's your 11 through 15?
I love it.
I swapped out.
So we got Cyberpunk 2077 at 10.
So I have a new 10 in my top 10.
And then we have 11 is Overwatch.
12 is Destiny.
13, BioShok.
14, God of War, Ragnarok.
and 15, the one, the only, Ark Raiders.
Very nice.
Dude, these, okay, I got to say, if you, if you are listening, you're listening because
you're still here, but like the 11 through 15s, we have diversified wildly.
Things have changed.
This was the point.
That's what it spreads out.
I mean, none of our 11 through 15s are remotely similar to each other in any way.
So I love this.
This is what the community asked for.
again shout out to demos for coming up with this idea but honestly seeing it play out i love this
idea so much um we are going to continue this we said that we will go to 25 so we will have another
episode in a little bit where we do our 15 through 20 um so that way you know i'm i'm really
curious to see where it goes that's i'm very curious to see how much more it diversifies from here
goodness i i thought we'd have at least a few that overlapped on this one but apparently not um
So listen, we want to hear from you and we know it's not easy, but if we can do it, you can do it.
So we want to hear what are your 11 through 15?
Spotify comment section is popping off.
Shout out to the Spotify comment section.
Let us know people.
Our Discord community is unlike any gaming community on the planet.
If you are not part of it, you are missing out.
We say this all the time.
Come join.
You can lurk.
You can just observe and check it out.
But you will see what we're talking about.
it is hands down the best gaming community that exists out there.
We're almost at 1,500 gamers.
It is one of the most active discords I have ever seen.
So this is not your ghost town where you join and then everything's awkward.
So come check that out.
Be a part of this.
Have fun with other gamers.
Talk about these 11 through 15 lists.
I guarantee you the conversation will be popping off when this episode releases.
But we want to hear from you.
So let us know what your games are in your 11 through 15.
And that way we can compare and just see.
how much it actually diversifies at this point.
So thank you to everybody
out there that supports this podcast.
If you like what we do and you want to support,
you can do that over on Patreon.
We are at VideoGamer's Pod,
or there's a link in the episode description,
along with that link to our Discord server.
Just look in there and you'll find everything you need.
And I think that's going to do it for this one, everybody.
So until next time, happy gaming.
See ya.
Peace out.
