Starting point is 00:00:11 Hello, fellow gamers, and welcome to the video gamers podcast. It's time to put our gaming knowledge to the test and possibly some bad impressions. This episode is going to be more game show than trivia, and it's going to be glorious. Plus, we're joined by a very special guest that has us. I can't hold it in, guys. It's Paul. Paul is here. Yeah, I'm here.
Starting point is 00:00:41 I'm here. It's been a minute, guys. It has been a minute, man, and we are freaking pumped to have you back on this show with us, buddy. How you been, man? I'm doing good, and I'm very excited to be back. I am scared to death that my internet's going to go out or be too laggy or my recording software is going to stop. So fingers crossed for this one. Yeah, it's been a whole year and a half since I left the show.
Starting point is 00:01:13 And I'm just excited to come back. I had a couple ideas that I thought might be fun, pinged you guys, said, Hey, if you ever want to have me on for an episode, I have this idea. And you guys had asked me, you know, over the last year and a half if I ever wanted to come back. And now felt like a good time. So I put together a little bit of video game show type stuff. We're going to put you guys to the test. I think it's going to be a lot of fun.
Starting point is 00:01:36 That's awesome, dude. people and you know for the record dude it's it's honestly people ask about you a lot uh they are honestly they ask about your family they know why you left the show and everybody respects why you had to do that and stuff so how is the family doing oh that's very sweet yeah my wife nicky is doing remarkably well uh ever since she was able to step away from work and just kind of focus a little bit more on mental health and recovery and all that she is in a much better place now and i'm very happy to report that so i I like to often joke because we worked together. She was technically my boss of the foster care agency that we founded.
Starting point is 00:02:13 And when she quit, I had to take over. And those who know me know that my love was always math and science. And I thought I'd work in maybe like engineering. And I like to joke that my wife tricked me into becoming a social worker and then left me with the company. So still plugging away at it. Very fulfilling work. Love what I do. But it's very nice to be back for the podcast.
Starting point is 00:02:35 That's awesome, dude. We are excited to have you back as well. We know the listeners are going to be just absolutely geeked out over this. I mean, we're already geeked out over it, you know, and we talk to you, you know? Yeah, yeah, yeah. This is the first time they're going to hear from you, but this is great. And I'm going to be honest, man, I'm a little, I'm a little nervous on this one because you gave us some, some, not very much, but you did give us a couple teasers and just said, hey, you guys might want to freshen up on a couple things. and then I went, oh my goodness, I don't know what Paul has in store for us.
Starting point is 00:03:08 And that's true. We have no idea. All we know is that Paul said, hey, guys, I have this idea for this trivia, like, kind of episode. If you guys are down, you know, I can prepare it and run it for you guys. And we went absolutely, but that's all we know. The real question is, did you, did anybody actually freshen up? I did. I did.
Starting point is 00:03:31 You did. You did. You did. No, he said you might want to freshen up. And so I went, okay, well, if Paul's telling us to freshen up, then I got to do it live, man. I put deodorant on, man. Just go in raw.
Starting point is 00:03:43 Just got to do it live, baby. Well, you see the issue, Ryan, is it wasn't freshening up for me. It was hearing these things for the first time. Yeah, yeah, that's right. Yeah, poor Ace is, uh, if it's not a 16-bit indie, then Ace is a no. Yeah. Fair enough. Well, okay, so now that we've got Paul introduced, we also, for those,
Starting point is 00:04:03 that might be tuning in for the first time. You know, Ryan is with us. So Ryan say hi to everybody that doesn't know who you are. I'm ready to lose, baby. Yeah. And then we have Ace as well, who I think might be the most nervous on this one because Ace is like, I don't know what's in store. And like he said, this was the first time for everything.
Starting point is 00:04:23 So Ace, how you doing, buddy? Yeah, I'm great. I was just wondering what this pink slip in my mailbox was about. I mean, you can't get a pink slip if we don't. pay you anything. Oh, that's fair, actually. There's, there is that. You know, who in their right mind would get
Starting point is 00:04:39 rid of free labor, man? Come on. You're perfectly safe, Ace, perfectly safe. Don't worry. Josh doesn't pay me either. I don't pay myself. Nobody gets paid around here. What are you talking about? You guys are getting paid? Do you guys know how expensive
Starting point is 00:04:53 games are now? These things are expensive, $70. What? Oh, my gosh. All right. Well, listen, guys, before we get into this trivia and we turn this episode over to Paul here. We do have a few people to thank this is incredible, guys. This is, this never gets old and it never stops meaning the world to us. So every time somebody signs up to support this show, we, you know, we like to give them a thank you because we understand,
Starting point is 00:05:21 you know, you know, times are hard, money is tight. And to donate to your dumb, goofy gaming podcast that you love, you know, it takes a special kind of person, man, you know. And so this is one of those things where we like to say thank you. And so we have a few people to thank. First up, we've got James Field, MTG, who signed up for rare status. It's been a member of the community for a very long time and made the move to say, hey, you know what, guys, I like what you guys are doing and signed up for rare status. So James Field, I'm assuming that means Magic the Gathering. I believe so. James is a big Magic the Gathering fan. So thank you, James for Rare. And then guys, we have not one but two new epic members who signed up this first one i'm going to give him his dues
Starting point is 00:06:08 because he deserves it long time member of the community awesome member of the community so a huge shout out to the one and only brett uh who is always there always to say good morning to everybody always participating in conversations always reaching out to help people out and to lend an ear when people need somebody to talk to and things like that so brett we love having you round buddy thank you for increasing your support for this show it means the world to us and the guys we got a brand new epic member who also joined the discord as a brand new member which we love seeing and so a huge shout out to black out vr for signing up for epic status as well a big fan of VR i'm going to assume and you know awesome like been chatting it up in the community too which is what we love to see so
Starting point is 00:06:58 super active right away which is awesome and then uh you like we we've always said we've said it for for a long time uh our discord is like the oasis it is it is a uh haven for all those who love games and love a safe place to just hang out and talk so if you uh if you want to come check it out please do it's a welcoming place and everybody's you know uh just hanging out and talking video games so please check it out yeah no politics no opinion shaming no toxicity that that actually does exist in the world which is why we hype it all the time so uh the There's a link in the episode of description if you want to check it out and see for yourself. Oh, boy.
Starting point is 00:07:37 Here we go. Paul? All right, buddy. We're handing the reins over to you, man. Be gentle. Also, Ryan Ace, I'm coming for you. Oh, all right. Hey, this is a family show, bro.
Starting point is 00:07:51 Yeah, all right, bud. I'm just saying, I don't like losing, so. It's true. Josh, I don't know, does that competitive spirit. All right. You guys ready to play some games. I think this is going to be fun. I was going to say,
Starting point is 00:08:04 buckle up. Ryan said he already is. All right. So basically what I thought would be fun is, but the three of you, one of you always has to host, right? Like you never get to compete against each other. Truly,
Starting point is 00:08:16 obviously you can do drafts and stuff like that. But I thought if I could come in, throw some trivia at you guys, let you duke it out. I'm going to be assigning points to things. It is going to be 100% subjective. I did not write anything down about how many points are.
Starting point is 00:08:31 worth what. If someone answers something egregiously wrong, maybe I'll even give you negative points. We'll just have to wait and see how it goes. But I will say, I wanted to make sure that I accommodated for all three of you, so, you know, Ace, don't worry, it's not just going to be like
Starting point is 00:08:47 old nostalgic stuff that the three of us played. I wanted to make sure it was fair to everyone. I 100% was prepared to just be like, uh, all right, so this is like apples to apples. I just got to make Paul laugh. And then we're good to go. Yes.
Starting point is 00:09:03 That's usually a good, good way to go. I'm older, I was thinking this is like whose line is it anyway. Yeah, yeah, where the points don't matter. All right. Yeah, exactly. So basically, I've got a couple different categories, and we'll just kind of go through these until we run out of time. I've got some Red Robbins, which is basically where I'm going to have you guys go in turn
Starting point is 00:09:25 where I'm going to give you a certain topic. And then you guys are going to keep going in the same order like Ryan. Josh Ace, Ryan Josh Ace, naming something that meets the criteria. And as soon as someone can't think of one, they get eliminated. Last person standing wins, points. I've also got some stuff where I want you guys to guess, like, how many sales were made of a certain game. I've got some historic first. Like, when do you think this first happened in gaming?
Starting point is 00:09:52 What year? I've got some famous quotes, famous video game glitches, and also some random trivia. I think it's going to be a lot of fun. So my only worry is that my internet lag might get in the way a little bit here with round robin, but I still think it's going to be a blast. We're going to, we're going to, we're going to, maybe it'll least be entertaining. It'll be entertaining when we're idiots. That's all. Oh, man.
Starting point is 00:10:20 I'm nervous. All right. So starting out, I don't know, let's go with a random trivia question. right off the bat. Let's just start here. And I got a question for you guys. Now, we're going on our system. You guys aren't writing your answers down. But the question I have for you guys is,
Starting point is 00:10:41 what do you think is the all-time highest subscriber count for World of Warcraft at its peak? Oh, my gosh. I think I know this one, actually. All right. Well, then let's... I'm going to... All right, go ahead.
Starting point is 00:10:58 I mean, okay, to be fair, I think I know everything and then I'm drastically wrong. So listen, if I say I think I know this one, there's a good chance that I have no idea what I'm talking about. I'm going to say 15 million. Oh, that was my answer. 15 million subscribers. Okay. That was my answer.
Starting point is 00:11:18 I was going to say. Oh, sure. We talked about the honor system, buddy, okay? You know what? Fine. 18 million. That's where I'm at. Okay.
Starting point is 00:11:27 Ryan? Oh, man. See, so my, my brain immediately went to like 20, 20 or 25, but, because like, I feel like I remember seeing it like on the package of the old boxes. Back in the day, kids, listen up. You used to get a box and then they would like, over this many players or something like, yeah, total million subscribers. Um, wait, how many did you say? I said 15 million. A said 18 million.
Starting point is 00:11:56 Is that what did you just say, though? Did you just say 12? He said 12. Oh, 20. He said, oh, I thought he said 12. 2. I'm going to go with 10? Okay. All right.
Starting point is 00:12:09 Well, the actual number. So Ryan instantly is not going with his gut and he's trying to play the game to win. I said 20. I'm playing the game. This is why we need boards. Oh. Well, the actual answer is 12 million. World of Warcraft.
Starting point is 00:12:25 Oh. Oh. Yep, it was 12. Peaked in October of 2010. And so let's see. So for that, Ryan, you were the closest. Ryan gets one point and zero for the other two. Now, follow up question.
Starting point is 00:12:42 How many people do you think are currently subscribed to World of Warcraft? Because we are 16 years past its peak and yet Wow is still trudging along. I would say $5 million. I'm going to say eight. I don't think it's that many. It's a snap. Eight. I'm going to say two million.
Starting point is 00:13:00 They just had a new expansion. New expansion. What is it? They're currently. I'm saying two million. Come on, come on. They're estimated to be between nine and ten million. Wow.
Starting point is 00:13:15 Is it good. Guys? Did you know it was still that popular? I had no idea. That was a shot in the dark. Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa. World of Warcraft. has nine million active subscribers still?
Starting point is 00:13:31 Current actively subscribed accounts. This is why we can't get updates in any of the other games, man. You know what I mean? That's why they're like, yeah. Overwatch, Heartstone, what? Diablo, four, what? They're like, no, we're just going to keep updating this game where they pay us every month.
Starting point is 00:13:47 We're just going to do that. To be fair, there's no other MMOs right now. Okay, now that is. Is the subscription still $15 a month? There's no way. I believe so, yeah. Really? That's what it was.
Starting point is 00:14:00 It hasn't gone up any. That means it was overpriced like 20 years ago. Yeah, that's very true. Because $15 then versus $15 now is not the same. Yeah, I was totally shocked at that fact. I wanted to throw that in here. So I thought I'd do it first, get it out there. But I had no clue that Wow was crushing it that much.
Starting point is 00:14:18 I do remember at one point I went back and added up all the months I had paid in Warcraft subscriptions and it was like $880 and I was like oh my goodness and it was worth every penny father Paul father Paul did a lot of healing dude go father Paul my undead priest undead priest I remember that dude oh yeah my I got to play World of Warcraft with Paul like for I don't know a week or two and and it was with Andy too and my only memory of playing with Paul was watching them offer dragon rides to people and then and then dropping them from like super high up onto the ground and then just watching them splat and I was like this is the greatest thing I've ever witnessed in game. That's hilarious.
Starting point is 00:15:01 Ah, the good old days. Yeah. Oh, man. Yeah, I remember doing that with Andy and Mike over at the footballers. That was us back in the day. Causeing Mayhem. All right. Let's go on and do one of the round robins because I think these are going to be some of the
Starting point is 00:15:16 most fun things that we do here today. So what I wanted to do is have you guys. go in a circle and I want you to name one of the major entries in the Zelda franchise. So we are not talking about remasters or remakes. We are solely going with the main games, not any spinoffs. There are a total of 20 and A-se seems like he might be on top of this one. We'll wait and see. I have a feeling whoever knows the mobile Zelda games is probably going to do the best.
Starting point is 00:15:48 But A-Ster is feeling pretty good? Zelda games? Yes, there is. There's four of them. There's four of them out on this one. Word coach, Josh. We're done. Oh, no.
Starting point is 00:15:58 All right. So for the record here, we are going from NES days up through the switch. So the main console or handheld console entries. And I'm going to be kind of particular about the naming. So I'm going to tell you right off the bat, if you say Zelda 2, that is not going to be a valid entry. All right. Zelda 5, Zelda 6, Zelda. Zelda.
Starting point is 00:16:20 Yeah, so I might ask you, like, can you rephrase or can you be more specific? And we'll see how it goes. Since Ace is feeling so good, why don't we go alphabetical order, Ace Josh Ryan? And we'll go in that order until we run out of games. All right, Ace, where are you going to start off with? I'll start with my favorites out of the game, Major's Mask. Okay. Okay.
Starting point is 00:16:42 I'll just go old since I'm the old one. Link to the past. Link to the past, classic. Okay, I'm going to go with, uh, The correct, correct pronunciation per Paul, Ocarina of Time. Okay, Ocarina of Time. Got it.
Starting point is 00:16:58 I'll do Skyward Sword. Okay. I'm going to do Breath of the Wild. I had one more. Oh, is it me? Yeah, bud. Oh, um, uh, what's, uh, uh, oh no.
Starting point is 00:17:20 Ryan's out Ryan's out Oh yes Yes I made it I made it I made it I made it at least I wasn't the first out
Starting point is 00:17:28 Oh Ryan Ryan I don't play Zelda Okay I don't play Zelda Five five games is all All right Ryan lasted That's good though Ryan's already leading
Starting point is 00:17:37 2 to 0 All right Ace next entry Twilight Princess Okay Josh's favorite Dang it Ace You stole mine
Starting point is 00:17:44 You jerk You knew I knew that one That's okay I know another one Wind Waker My personal thing How have we not said the original Legend of Zelda?
Starting point is 00:17:53 Legend of Zelda? I said, yeah, I guess. Is Link to the past the second one? That is linked to the past. Link to the past is the third. Yeah. Yeah. Okay.
Starting point is 00:18:06 There's that new one that looks like it was made out of plastic. Dang it. I'm out, guys. Oh, no. Man. You still had Oracle of Ages, Oracle of Seasons, Phantom Hourglass. Spirit Tracks?
Starting point is 00:18:20 I've never heard of any of those. Wait, those actually exist? Link's Awakening? Oh, Link's Awakening. Wait, what's the plastic one called? Links Awakening DX. It's a remake of the original Link's Awakening for the game. No, no, no, no. This was on the switch.
Starting point is 00:18:35 Echoes of Wisdom. That's Echoes of Wisdom, yeah. That's that one. Link's Awakening also looks like that. I was trying to think of Tears of the Kingdom and I could not put my brain on it because that's one I actually, I actually liked it. close it's the adventure of link oh the adventure of link okay would you've also accepted wand of gamelon i had no idea of a zelda's many zelves uh ace like the look of confidence on
Starting point is 00:19:05 ace's face when you mentioned this was like stunning to me this is for me this one's for me yeah yeah i'm gonna award two points to ace a couple others you guys got almost all of them I don't know that I heard a link between worlds, Triforce Heroes, those are both 3DS. I had never heard of the Minish Cap. Yeah, that one was a Game Boy one. Yeah, Game Boy. Nerd.
Starting point is 00:19:33 Nerd. Nerd. The mechanic with that one was you did this. Touch grass, guys. Yeah, go outside, dude. What are you doing? The mechanic with that one was like you shrunk down and you fought enemies that were normal-sized enemies
Starting point is 00:19:45 as the bosses. They were just big. Oh, nice. Well, actually, what you do is... What was the one that came after Breath of Wild? I didn't play that one. Tears of the Kingdom. Tears of the Kingdom.
Starting point is 00:19:55 Tears of the Kingdom. No, that's Breath of the Wild, but 10 times better. You're not missing anything. Me and Josh is... Yeah, when you just climb up the mountain, Paul, help me with this one. You just climb up the mountain and just eat like whatever food the whole time. I love...
Starting point is 00:20:12 I love that. You're on my side now, Ryan, because you go back and listen to that podcast, And you with Josh the whole time. I didn't like it. I didn't like it. No, I didn't like it at all. But then I kind of like, and I remember saying it in the show is like how I kind of figured out how the game's supposed to be played. And you're just supposed to have fun.
Starting point is 00:20:29 Be crazy and just build crazy things and just enjoy the world. And like that's when the game changed for me. All right. All right. We need another one. Sorry. I get a point for coming in second point, Josh. So Ryan and Ace are tied with two.
Starting point is 00:20:42 Josh is coming in with one. That's all right. That's all right. Don't worry. I'm a late. Paul, did I tell you how handsome you want? Oh, thank you, Ryan. Flattery will not win you any points.
Starting point is 00:20:54 I take back everything I said. All right, we're going to move on to an audio challenge. Okay, Josh might have alluded to this a little bit earlier. I want all three of you to give me your best impersonation of Wario ordering drive-thru at McDonald's. All right. So I might have said you might want to go watch a few seconds. of Wario to remember his essence. Oh, no.
Starting point is 00:21:20 Oh, no. Oh, my gosh. All right. Wario ordering drive-thru at McDonald's. Josh first. Me, I'm in last place. You know what? I'll go first.
Starting point is 00:21:30 Confidence. They'll get you points, Josh. Yeah, yeah. Okay. Hi, it's me, Wadio. Give me the quarter pounder with cheese, with a medium fry, and a large sprite.
Starting point is 00:21:44 And make it snappy. I got a race to win. Okay, not bad, not bad. I will award that two points for Josh, for that Wario. Okay. All right. Yes, I'm in the lead. I'm in the lead, boys.
Starting point is 00:21:59 Temporarily. All right, Ace, I can't wait to hear this. I'm so excited. By the way, Ace, you and I have never recorded before. This is the first time. No, this is certainly one way to get to know each. And I will not be invited back after this. but let's hear it.
Starting point is 00:22:16 Oh, it cannot be worse than the impressions we did for the dating game episode. I promise you. Oh, yeah. I promise you it cannot get worse than that. That's fair. All right, let's hear it.
Starting point is 00:22:29 It's a me, warrior. I want a filet of fish. Every filet of fish you got. I think that was top-notch and I'm not even lying. That was really good. That was pretty good, man. I'm going to award that two points as well. I feel like that was, that was, uh, right up there with Josh.
Starting point is 00:22:48 I feel like a filet of fish and nothing else. Whatever's going to give him the, like the worst breath is what he'd go for. Yeah, whatever's going to give him the nastiest breath. Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah. That's a good. All right. All right.
Starting point is 00:22:58 All right. Ryan, you're up, buddy. Oh, man, here we go. It's a media, Mario. I want all the fries. He, he, he, he, he. By the way, I love that you all literally got three times as loud. anytime he's
Starting point is 00:23:16 Yeah, of course. That's how we do. He's a loud guy. He's a loud dude. You want seductive Wario, Paul? No, I do not. I'd be curious.
Starting point is 00:23:29 So would Wario. Oh, man. Wario. Oh, the ice cream machine is down. Wah! What do you think of this? Varts in the intercom. You know, we're going twos all around.
Starting point is 00:23:47 You guys did such a job. What a good impersonation. I love it. All right, let's see here. Let's go with a historic first. All right. Now, to provide a little bit of context, the very first video game came out in 1958 on an oscilloscope,
Starting point is 00:24:11 and the first computer game was 1962. All right. So that may or may not help you at all. What year do you think the very first first person shooter released? And I want you to guess what year, closest year is going to win. So Ryan, I don't know if you've gone first yet. I don't think I've gone first. What was the second one you said that it came out?
Starting point is 00:24:35 First computer game was 1962. Nineteenth, eight. Okay, Ryan's guessing 78. I think I'm way off. I'm going to say, 1984. Okay. Ace.
Starting point is 00:24:58 1982. I was going to do 85, but that's too close to Josh. That'd be very close. The winner is Ryan. All three of you overshot it. I was, again, shocked in looking up some of this trivia,
Starting point is 00:25:13 the very first FPS. 1973, and not only that, guys, it was made by high school kids, and it allowed two computers to connect and play together. And it was also the first game that included radar. And it was called Mays or Mays War from 1973. Who'd have thought? What? How interesting. Was it the first land party?
Starting point is 00:25:38 I think so. I thought this was Wolfenstein. I thought it was doing. I know. Legitimately, I thought it was Woffenstein. Yeah, that's what I was thinking. If I had an answer, I would, yeah, I would have guessed like 1990 or something like that, I think if it were me. I figured it was a true question.
Starting point is 00:25:53 That's why I guessed in the 70s somewhere. I was like, ah, 78. Although I do think there was an Atari game where you were just a, like a triangle and you were chasing like a round ball through a maze or something like that. But that was a color too. I don't know. Wow. 1978? 19703.
Starting point is 00:26:13 Three. Even earlier. Okay. that's older than even me. That means it's old. That's old, man. Old old. Yeah, that's what I was saying.
Starting point is 00:26:23 Because a lot of people think Doom was the first like commercial, that's where my brain went. But Wolfenstein actually came out before Doom did. Yeah. Never played Wolfens. Just think about 1973. You're talking like three to four years after the Beatles broke up. They had the very first first person shooter.
Starting point is 00:26:40 That's pretty wild to think about. Law of equivalent exchange. Yeah. Yeah. Oh, I have another game. Guys, I totally forgot about this one. Guess the imposter. All right.
Starting point is 00:26:51 I like this one. I think this might be fun. Ooh, okay. I am going to read to you guys five video game titles along with a short, like, two-sentence description. And you guys have to guess which ones are impostors. It could be one. It could be more than one. But we're going to see, all right?
Starting point is 00:27:10 Oh, man. All right. I'm going to go through all five, and you guys can kind of give me your thoughts. The very first one I have here is Jazz Punk. This is a single player First Person Adventure game with mini games that focus on comedy.
Starting point is 00:27:24 One of the modes is wedding cake where you can shoot enemies with wedding themed weaponry like wedding cakes, roses, and champagne cords in a quake death match style contest. Have any of you guys, Ace, you look like you may have maybe...
Starting point is 00:27:38 I've heard of this. I've watched a play through this. I've seen a play through of this. Jazz punk. This is what we have to do. deal with Paul. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:27:45 We're going to get smoked by Ace, Ryan? Is Ace going to smoke us in this? It's a real game and it's ridiculous and I kind of love it.
Starting point is 00:27:52 Okay. I vote that one. That's my pick. That's my pick too. All right. We'll go through all five and then you can let me know what you want to lock in.
Starting point is 00:28:03 I think going against Ace is probably a bad idea. All right. Next one. Next one I have here. All right. This game is called Coffin Dodgers. It is a multiplayer
Starting point is 00:28:13 a racing game with elderly people on mobility scooters and they have weapons. The game has no brakes and you can attack other riders with things like walking sticks and umbrellas. So that's another one that you can sort of think through, think whether or not you want to say it's an imposter. Next game. This is a game called Seaman. It is a virtual pet game narrated by Leonard Nimoy where you raise a talking fish with a human
Starting point is 00:28:42 face. Don't look so worried, guys. Gameplay includes using a microphone to converse with your talking fish slash human, and it is known to regularly insult you. So, uh, semen is one game that you can consider there. All right, next one, brinebound. This is a souls like action game where you play as a pickle fighting for freedom away from a hamburger. It includes fighting your way out of zones like the ketchup caverns and the mustard mountains.
Starting point is 00:29:10 And then finally the last one I have here is a game called I Love Bees. And this is an alternate reality game where people receive jars of honey in the mail with a link to a website and GPS coordinates and timestamps. People who went to those locations found ringing pay phones with voice actors giving them more puzzles. And if you solved all the puzzles, it would lead you to one of four movie theaters where you were able to play Halo 2 before its release. All right. So to recap, we got jazz punk, brine bound, semen, coffin dodgers, and I love bees. Which ones do you guys want to guess as impostors? I spent that whole time staring at AISC.
Starting point is 00:29:56 I was just watching the whole time. I was like, what is he going to do? I was like, is he nodding? Is he blinking? We gave away our hand early, Josh. I just want to know, without giving an answer, how many of these. are you very confident about? Only two. Only two?
Starting point is 00:30:15 Yeah. Okay. All right. That makes me. I have my answers. And one of them was the jazz punk one, right? I don't know. I don't remember. Maybe Ace is trying to throw you off. Dang it. Ace is gotten so good at this now. I know. Dang it. I'm going to say my guesses are I love bees because I don't think that they would show off Halo 2 before its release, even though that sounds really neat. And I'm going to guess the See, Last Man Standing sounds like this Coffin Crashers game And I feel like that
Starting point is 00:30:47 Are you saying the fakes right now? He's saying the fakes Yeah, I'm saying the two that I think are fake Okay So the I love bees I'm just going to go with the coffin crashes one I think that's Coffin Dodgers
Starting point is 00:30:59 Yeah, all right, that's my guess That's my good It's Coffin Dodgers That's my good Those are my two I would also I would pick Coffin Dodgers And Brian Bound is the two
Starting point is 00:31:09 I think are fake I think games that hinted towards something as big as a geocash could definitely be a thing. What about you, Ryan? Which one was game number two? Brian Bound. That was the pickle souls like. I'm going to say, I'm going to say that's the only fake one. Brian Bound, the pickle game?
Starting point is 00:31:29 Yeah, that's pickle game. All right. Was there more than one or is this two? There was one. And Ryan crushed it. And Ace is also correct. Ryan is just more correct. So Ryan will get two points,
Starting point is 00:31:43 Ace will get one. Josh, sorry. No way. Are you for real? Jazz punk's wild, by the way, guys. Jazz punk's crazy. Guys, I just want to recognize how I'm really good at this. Ryan is crushing this right now.
Starting point is 00:31:57 He is crushing it. He's doing better than game in jeopardy. It's almost like I've known for 25 years. All right, look, look. I got to, we got to take a break because I got to reset here, guys. So let's take a quick ad. break and then we'll come back and I'm buck I'm I'm locking in boys I'm locking in so we'll be right
Starting point is 00:32:14 back after this break all right got all right all right come on Josh come on it that did all right boys come on that's it nothing you're ready no no no you don't understand I'm sitting up in my chair now boys I've got I'm leaning forward come on all right all right all right guys I got to do it we're going back to an audio challenge got to got to plug another one in here all right all right I want you to give me your best impersonation of Deckard Cain, giving a short review of the game Mugenics. Oh, no. Oh, no. Okay.
Starting point is 00:32:58 Has it been a while since you guys played Diablo? I went first. I went first last time. Not me. I went first. I did the burger order with Mario. Yeah, that's true. That was you.
Starting point is 00:33:10 He means the last audio challenge. Oh, yeah, yeah, that's true. So who is it? Ryan? Ryan, you're the one of the chair, buddy. I was going to say, Ryan's the one that loves doing his decoratine. I don't know because all I can say is stay while and listen.
Starting point is 00:33:24 Yeah, that's what I was going to say. Well. Guys, what would you say? All right, all right, all right. There sure is a lot of cats in this house. You should throw them down that pipe. Was that plankton? I think Ryan got
Starting point is 00:33:44 Ryan mixed plankton and Decker cane. They're very close. They're very close. Plankton and Decker cane are very close. All right. Oh, not bad. Ace is like giving a second.
Starting point is 00:33:59 I'm just going to get this out of the way. Let me try to go here. Hang on. You say in Mugenics, you raise cats and you set them on adventures. And if you're lucky, they will complete their adventure and come back retired. And once they're retired, you send them down the pipe Or you have them make babies to get more cats. Be careful out there.
Starting point is 00:34:24 He almost turned into a cowboy at the last step. It was falling off. It was falling off, which is why I ended it real quick. He was like Sean Connery Kane, like right there real quick. There is, dude, go and listen to some Decker cane. There is a slight little bit of Sean Conner. There is. There's a little twilight.
Starting point is 00:34:42 For sure. It's in the back of the throne. Before I do this, I'd like to remind everyone I heard this man's voice for the first time, like two hours ago. Oh, man. Ace is going to rock this and I'm not. I promise. Stay a while and listen. My name is Ryan and I hate good games, so I'll never play Mugetics past the opening sequence.
Starting point is 00:35:07 I put in three and a half hours, thank you very much. Three and a half. That was enough cat sex on the screen for me, all right? That was more than enough. Three and a half hours of that is more than enough. Tad face combat's too complicated for me. Not bad. Not bad.
Starting point is 00:35:27 I'm going to go. Terrible, actually. I'm going to go ones across the board, all three. All right. I got a point. Yeah. Wait, you're saying mine was equal to Ryan's half plankton one? No, that was not half plankton.
Starting point is 00:35:40 It was pretty decent. It was pretty decent. It was good. Yeah. What was the last time you played Diablo, buddy? Don't even. It's been a while. Yeah, exactly.
Starting point is 00:35:47 It's been a while, you're saying. It's been a while. It's been a while. I don't like these, man. Oh, I think it's so much fun. Where do we have on points, by the way? Point-wise, we've got Ryan clocking in with eight, ace with six, Josh with four. Still got time to catch up.
Starting point is 00:36:10 I can still come back. I can still come back. I'm glad you showed up, Josh. I got to point this last round. It's all right. Oh, you know what? Okay. I got another one here.
Starting point is 00:36:19 It's called poorly explained plots. And I'm going to read to you, plot of a game. Whoever throws out the answer first will get a point. But you only get to guess once. All right. So don't throw out something too early. Let's see here. All right.
Starting point is 00:36:38 In this game, you're constantly finding maps but getting lost again. No one explains anything and everyone speaks in poetry. Pretty much everything in the world is either asleep, possessed, or trying to stab you. I thought I had it and then the end got me.
Starting point is 00:36:56 I don't know. Can you read it? Read it one more time. Sure. In this game, you're constantly finding maps but getting lost again. No one explains anything and everyone speaks in poetry.
Starting point is 00:37:07 Pretty much everything in this world is either asleep, possessed, or trying to stab you. Sleep? I'm going to say Hollow Night. It is Holo. Yeah. Yeah. Gosh, gets the point.
Starting point is 00:37:20 Yes, I want to. Good job. Good job. Yeah. Good job. You get negative one point. Oh, dang it. Yep, good old Hollow Night.
Starting point is 00:37:32 That's what we had there. Do another one of those, Paul. Another one? Sure. All right. Here we go. Yeah, yeah, yeah. All right, all right.
Starting point is 00:37:39 A delivery man is given a job which results in him going on a very long road trip, spending most of his time quietly opening drawers for duct tape. I know we don't want too much dead air. Oh, Fallout, New Vegas. Or Fallout. Do you want the specific one? Not Fallout. Not Fallout.
Starting point is 00:37:59 It is nothing in the Fallout franchise. Ryan, you in particular should get this one. Well, I'm thinking delivery, man. That's what's throwing me off. The duct tape is literal. You do loot, other things including alcohol. Alcohol. And part.
Starting point is 00:38:18 It's not. It was a Pacific Drive, was it? Ryan, you got it. Say it. Hey. You know, dude, that's what I. I didn't even play that game. Are you a delivery?
Starting point is 00:38:28 I didn't even play that game. No, that's what I thought about first. And I'm like, no, it couldn't be Pacific Drive. And I was thinking last of us and I was, I was trying to figure out what it was. Oh, my God. You were thinking the courier from New Vegas. Yes, that's exact. Because the delivery, I didn't, I didn't remember that you were a delivery man in Pacific Drive.
Starting point is 00:38:43 Neither did I. Dang it, Ace. Good job, dude. Thank you. Good job. Oh, man. Dang it. Paul, you're giving too many clues. I would have worked it out. Yeah. So that's a point for Ace after Josh got his point as well. I'll give you one more poorly explained plot. I don't know if all three of you have played this game. So we'll see. A grumpy exterminator is trying to find his adopted daughter but keeps getting distracted helping kings and goats and playing games with other people.
Starting point is 00:39:12 Meanwhile, the villains love to show up But don't really seem to do anything Other than to make a big entrance Kings and goats What? Yeah, what? What? What, like cult of the lamb?
Starting point is 00:39:26 Not cult of the lamb, good guess Dang. Okay, can you read it one more time? Sure, a grumpy exterminator Is trying to find his adopted daughter But constantly gets distracted Helping kings and goats And playing gigs
Starting point is 00:39:40 Which are three. Which are three. Oh, exterminator. Dang it. That's why I need that second read-through sometimes. That was good. Good job, man. I initially wrote down that the villains seem to only show up with bad weather, but I thought that might make it too easy. That would have probably got me.
Starting point is 00:39:57 Yeah. Yeah. All right. Another one for Josh. Category, boys. Yeah. Do more. You should have said.
Starting point is 00:40:08 By the way, I'm not keeping track of time at all. How much time do we have left on this? We're good. We're good. 10 more minutes. We'll do like 10 more minutes and then... Sure. This is too much fun.
Starting point is 00:40:17 This is the ball episode. This is fun. All right. All right. Let's do another round Robin. All right. Okay. Oh, boy.
Starting point is 00:40:24 These make me so... These are so hard, man. So this one is about the game awards. So the game awards have been around since 2014, which means there have been 12 game of the year winners. And that's what I want you guys to go through and name. This time, we'll go reverse. alphabetical order. How about we go Ryan, Josh, Ace until everyone gets eliminated but one.
Starting point is 00:40:50 What do you want to start us off with, Ryan? God war. Okay, God War, 2018. Dang it. Josh. Is it my turn? Yeah. Oh, it's my turn? Oh, sorry, it takes two. It takes two. 2021. Overrated. Ace. Astrobot. Astrobot, 2024. Ryan? Speaking of overrated, Expedition 33. 2025, yep, Josh. Eldon Ring. Eldon Ring, 2022. All correct guesses, Ace. Yeah, the Witcher 3.
Starting point is 00:41:25 Witcher 3, 2015. Ryan. Oh, my gosh. We've talked about two of the games already, if that helps. Last of us. Don't give him close. Last of us, too. Last of us part two, 2020.
Starting point is 00:41:43 Good pick. Josh. Okay. Oh, my gosh. I thought you liked this game more than Eldon Ring hint that I like to stop it No hint 277
Starting point is 00:41:58 Nope cyberpunk did not win game Boom you're out It should have won It should have won It should have won Dang it I'm so bad with years man I can I know two more in my head That I can think of so hopefully
Starting point is 00:42:12 he doesn't take them Uh didn't Overwatch get game of the year Uh oh fall back I think I'm back Can you guys hear me again? Yeah yeah yeah yeah A said Overwatch
Starting point is 00:42:25 All right Overwatch is correct 2016 Sorry guys my internet I don't know what's going on I had to reconnect No you're good Overwatch is correct
Starting point is 00:42:34 Yeah back to you Ryan The other one was No now I'm blanking Overwatch and there was two Breath of Wild Breath of the Wild Breath of the Wild 2017 back to you ace that's all I know
Starting point is 00:42:50 I don't know anymore shadows die twice oh good pick 2019 I thought that one might be the one that slips by Ryan are you out there's two left we got 2014 and 2023 one of them is one of my all time favorite games one of Josh's all time favorite games well we already did Alden Ring
Starting point is 00:43:10 if it's yours three two it's a dragon age you're gonna have to be a little more specific I don't know which ones they are Oh my God, that's so long ago. I only played fail guard. I don't know. I'm out.
Starting point is 00:43:25 All right. I'm out. Ace, any chance you know the last two? I was Dragon Age Inquisition. Oh, darn it. Not quite. Baldersgate 3. Oh, Baldersgate 3.
Starting point is 00:43:37 I thought for sure. Dark Souls. I forgot. I forgot. I forgot. I forgot Baldur's Day 1 game of the year. That's 2023. I remember people made a big stink about it.
Starting point is 00:43:47 When I went out was winning. I should have gone out because I did not. I didn't either. I did freaking awesome. Ace stole my Overwatch, yeah. Yeah. Well, you stole my God of War, you loser? That was like, come on.
Starting point is 00:44:01 I was going to that one immediately. I know, my God. I know that. I know that. I know. Dang. Yep. I'm surprised you didn't get Baldur's Gate 3, Josh.
Starting point is 00:44:08 I thought you might. That's what I meant when I said. I forgot that it won game of the year, man. Yeah. That was the year I was pulling for Allen Wake 2, even though I knew it didn't have a chance. All right. Let's see here. Let's do a guess for sales. I got a couple here. This one's fun. All right, we're going super old school. This one might be harder for you, Ace. But you're currently tied with Ryan for the lead. Like Ryan and I know how many sales a game.
Starting point is 00:44:36 Well, arcade cabinets is where we're going with this. All right. Street Fighter 2 is the third all-time highest number of sales for arcade cabinet. Obviously, Josh loved it, used to travel, go on circuits as a professional streetfighter 2 player. And I want you guys to guess for the third highest of all time, how many arcade units do you think they sold? Oh my gosh. 26 million. All right. We got 26 million from Ace.
Starting point is 00:45:12 Yeah, that's way too high. Why not? I'm going to say 400,000. 400K for Josh. For arcade units? That's worldwide, though. They have arcades in Japan. This is worldwide.
Starting point is 00:45:26 Josh is locked in. It's worldwide. I'm gonna, what was Josh's? 400,000. And Ace's guess was 26 million. So we've got some disparity. Some disparities. I'm going to say 40,000.
Starting point is 00:45:41 40,000 for Ryan. Okay. Yeah. All right. Funny enough. I might win just for not being like one extreme or the other. Josh is the closest, but. No!
Starting point is 00:45:55 It is. Yes. Two hundred twenty one thousand cabinets. Wow. That's it? That's it. And not only that, a majority of them were in Japan. So in America, it was way less.
Starting point is 00:46:07 It was under a hundred thousand. I thought there were more in America than that. I would have thought it would be in the millions as well. Yeah. Bro, I was so lucky to have two of those near my house. Yeah. Two? Dang.
Starting point is 00:46:18 Yeah, well, I had won at the same. 7-11 and one at the mall that we're not far from my house. I was trying to end up my head being like, all right, in a town you'd have this, this, this, and this, like, how many would it be? Dang, good job, Josh. That's one point for Josh, and I'm, I'm given a negative half point to Ace. He was off by almost 26 million. You know, wishful thinking for a franchise that way.
Starting point is 00:46:41 It's only a 26 million. Oh, goodness. I love it. All right. So points total right now, Ryan's got eight, Aces 7.5, and Josh is 7. You guys are keeping it close. Ryan, you haven't gotten a point in a while. What's up, buddy?
Starting point is 00:46:57 I haven't. I haven't. Did you burn out in the first half of the show? You didn't save anything for the end, huh? It's all gone. Yeah. All right, I got a famous quote for you guys. All right, you got to tell me either the game or the character of who said it.
Starting point is 00:47:11 I got a couple here. The first one is, nothing is true. Everything is permitted. Etzio Adetore from Assassin's Creed too. That is Assassin's Creed. Even like correct pronunciation. I know. He put the...
Starting point is 00:47:26 It's your Adetore. It's a got by no. I am still here. Me, Etzio. I like that Ryan just put Tony Soprano in Assassin's Creed. All right. Another quote for you guys. Let's see here.
Starting point is 00:47:46 You're the first guy to get half his brain eaten by wolves and come out smarter. Oh, man. Was that Arthur Morgan? Oh, Arthur Morgan, yeah. Does that count for Ace? John Marston. Yeah, I'd said it first. Yeah, that counts.
Starting point is 00:48:03 I'd say that counts. Ace said it, but it was with a question mark. But I will give that one to. Yeah, Arthur Morgan. That is Arthur Morgan. Stupid fucking John Marston. John Marston. I said who he said it to, Paul.
Starting point is 00:48:15 So that should count for something. You get 0.1. It was to 10.1 point. Let's see here. Another famous quote. All right, here we go. Oh, man, I don't know. Maybe none of you guys will know this one.
Starting point is 00:48:30 War is where the young and stupid are tricked by the old and bitter into killing each other. And I'll give you a hint. One of the best selling franchises of all time. And not really a franchise you would quote from very often, but one of the all-time highest selling. any guesses um i i gears of war came to mine
Starting point is 00:48:52 yeah gears of war came to mine first but that's not a in my mind a high selling franchise i'm thinking i'm uh what's uh what's your favorite like there's three of them um mass effect mass effect that's what i was thinking is not mass effect it is yeah miko bellic from gta h a boy oh yeah i would never have thought hey roman let's go boy See, you said that, I want to got it. Yeah. That one would have been a little too easy. All right, do we have time for any more?
Starting point is 00:49:26 Yeah, yeah, yeah. Josh doesn't want to lose. Josh just not want to lose. I guess that's so close on points. Audio challenge? I just need to beat Ryan. Then we can end the show, okay? All right.
Starting point is 00:49:40 Audio challenge. Give me your best impersonation of a Merlock from World of Warcraft. Oh. Oh. You got to prepare your throat, guys. Ryan, are you going to do the SpongeBob? Either that. No, no, like that.
Starting point is 00:49:56 All right. Josh, you first. I went first last time. Me? All right. Shockingly good. All right. All right.
Starting point is 00:50:11 He's almost swallowed his microphone. I don't know that one. Ace almost died. Ace almost died here. I choked on the water mid bit. I didn't use any water. That's illegal prop usage right there. Yeah, Ace is disqualified for sure.
Starting point is 00:50:27 Disqualified. There was no water that time. Great, great visual along with the audio, I must say. Yeah, why not? You got to put your all into it. Shake your entire potty. There we go. That's what it feels like.
Starting point is 00:50:48 That was better. Channel your inner Merlock. Oh, man. Now we've blown every little. Nobody wins. Nobody wins. You all lose. I beg to differ.
Starting point is 00:51:00 I had a pretty good Merlock impression, man. That comes from years of playing Harstone. I'm giving Josh a two. I'm giving Ace a one. Ryan, I'll give you a half. Why not? Feeling generous.
Starting point is 00:51:16 Half a piece. Half a piece. He's being really generous on that one. Ace almost died and he used the prop and I get half a point. Yep. My death would be amusing. There you go. I love it.
Starting point is 00:51:31 All right. Let's see. One last thing. Should we do? Yeah, let's do it. One last one to wrap it up. Where are we sitting right now? Points.
Starting point is 00:51:40 We've got. Don't tell us. Don't tell us. Don't tell us. You don't want to know. Oh, wait till the end, I guess. This is the double bonus round? Well, no.
Starting point is 00:51:48 Sure. All right, we can keep it till the end. I can't have you getting double points on this one, Ryan. You want to do one last round robin? It's a short one. Oh, gosh. I hate these. No, do the bad.
Starting point is 00:52:01 No, no, don't do what he says. Do not do what he says. No, look at them trying to, trying to. Paul, do whatever you want to do. Hey, maybe it'll be a round robin. You two actually know. I mean. No, that's the chit.
Starting point is 00:52:13 of that say no so far. Two out of three. I mean, like, there's got to be one. Yeah. Ace, Ace just wants the round Robbins. He's already in the lead, so. That's true. Ace is within striking distance, but we'll see. All right, I'll tell you what. Let's do one last historic first.
Starting point is 00:52:31 All right, I'll save the other round Robin in case I ever come back and we ever do this again. All right. Historic first. Closest wins. And I'll determine points on how close. or how far you are. So if you like nailed it, it might be like a three or four pointer. All right.
Starting point is 00:52:47 What year did a video game first use recorded voice acting? Recorded voice acting. So not just creating like a sound, but actually recording a voice and putting it into the game. 1988. Ryan's guessing 88? I am going to say 1982. 82 for Josh.
Starting point is 00:53:14 I feel like I went too late, I think. Yeah, I'm thinking 1984. An 84 for Ace. Wow. I feel like it was an Atari game. Well, Ace and Josh, you were both off by one. Right in between the two. What?
Starting point is 00:53:32 1983. 83? 83. Wow. It's an Atari game. I'm telling you, it's the, All your base are belong to us. Oh, what's the name of that game?
Starting point is 00:53:44 I can't remember the name of the game, but I think that's the game I'm thinking of. It may or may not be, because I did read that some games did have, what's it called? Like now we would say AI generated, but it was like programmed to sound like a voice. Is it berserk?
Starting point is 00:53:59 Yeah, more like text to speech. Yeah, it was similar to text to speech. Because that had like the robot voice. This is actual recording. And it was Dragonslayer from 1983. Oh. Oh, that game was great. The one that was animated by Don Bluth.
Starting point is 00:54:16 Yeah. And not only that, the animators did the voices to save on money because they're like, we don't have any more money. How cool is that? Let's just do it ourselves. And so the animators recorded their own voices. That game was groundbreaking in the arcades because nobody had ever seen graphics like that, dude. It was like you were playing a cartoon.
Starting point is 00:54:34 And nobody had ever seen the end of it either. Yeah, no one ever saw the end of it either. Because, yeah, all you had to do was like just tap the joystick like one direction. or the other, and then half the time you just die. So nobody knew actually how to play the game. But yeah, that game visually was supes impressive at the time. They ported that game to Nintendo Switch.
Starting point is 00:54:53 Oh, wow, I didn't even know that. Both games, the original and the sequel. You guys were both one over one below, so you both lose five points. I feel like if you went over, you busted. And if you went under, like, that's probably better. I awarded Ace and Josh three points for being so close. I gave two. You were all very, very close. No one was off by more than five years. I don't know that I would have gone 80s. I might have even gone like maybe 89 at the earliest. But I wanted to say like 92, 91. Like I was thinking that's where and like it kind of really transitioned. But man, that's wild. What did you say? 83? 83. Yeah. Yeah. I was so close. I was so close. Some of those fighting games come out. Because those were voice acted. Like Mortal Kombat and stuff. Were those texts? Yeah. Like more.
